2002 gmc envoy ser#[xxx] air bags did not deploy driver taken by lifestar to hartford hospital the whole left side of the vehicle was caved in all the way to the front seat.updated 07/30/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
I was involved in an accident may 28, 2002 in which both vehicles made contact at their left front corners.total vehicle speed was at least 40 mph at contact and maybe higher.the other vehicle's airbags both deployed while neither one of mine in a 2002 envoy did.this was not a direct head on crash, but the angle of impact was such that both vehicles stopped immediately.the only movement after impact was a pivoting around with the rear of both vehicles.in other words, we stopped uponcontact. Both vehicles were a total loss and there were injuries in my vehicle. They were not severe, but happened nonetheless.my 8 year old son had severe seat and shoulder belt markings as well as bruises from his leg hitting a phone holder. I received some neck injuries that are still being treated and at this date we do not know how long treatment will take.i have photosof both my vehicle and the injuries to my son.my question and complaint involves the reasons the airbags did not deploy.i believe that in an impact of this nature, they should have deployed. There was a recall for this model year for an airbag, and i received a notice in the mail, but when the dealer ran my vin my vehicle did not show up as needing the fix. I do not believe the recall involved the deployment mechanism.
Road under construction hole in road overcorrected and went into air suv rolled several times. Damage to front and rear. Drivers side of car damaged from front to rear. Air bags frontal or side did not deploy. Gmc 2002 envoy one owner with less than 46,000 miles. Car was totaled by insurance company.
I was in an accident and hit on broadside on the passenger side and driver front corner. The air bags did not go off. They say service soon. The seat belt hurt me as well. It did not lock. I was injured with a torn labrum, back and neck injuries. Head too. I was moving and i was hit on the drivers side and then pushed into another car. I was on a city street. 14 mile near mount 7-22
Car had a head on collision with another car that jump from the opposite traffic. Both cars were totaled because of this accident, but my airbags did not deploy at the time of the accident.
I was on my way home on hwy/us 151 going approx. 55-60 mph (65 mph zone) when i hit a deer which caused my vehicle to lose control and slammed into the start of a guardrail at no less than 45 mph bringing my 2002 gmc envoy to a complete stop, at most 2-3 feet from initial impact to be exact. The airbags did not deploy. Front dash nor side impact bags, nothing. N i hit hard. Luckily i wasn't seriously injured only minor bruising and quite sore from whiplash and being thrown into the door an a bit shaken n luckily had no passengers. As for my envoy, it is a total loss and unfortunately i only had liability insurance so now i'm screwed without a vehicle and after all other problems i've faced with my gmc envoy i will never own a gm again. Take gm products to the dump.
The vehicle experienced problems with the air bag.the dealer indicated that there was corrosion around the air bag. *nlm
The airbag light is on. Sometimes it will go off, but the light is on most of the time on the instrument panel. I spoke to the service department at our local dealer and they did not care and said we would have to bring it in another time to hook it up to their big machine.i want this issue resolved. I have had this vehicle serviced for recalls (wiper motor & cluster gauges). My wife drives this vehicle and i would like to make sure it is safe for her to continue driving it with this light on and no danger of the airbag deploying.
At highway speeds vehicle will stall.when this happens it causes ignition switch to burn out. Consumer stated airbag light illuminated.aktt
The vehicle was involved in a roll over accident, and the air bags failed to deploy.
Consumer stated while she and her husband were traveling on the highway at approximately 40-50 mph, the vehicle in front of themdecided to make a quick turn, which caused her husband to hit the vehicle in the side. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy.both she and her husband sustained injuries.his knees went into the dash and he was sore from head to toe.this impact caused her head to snap back, resulting in a chest wall injury/a stiff neck , and back. This was a malfunction because the air bags should have deployed because of the rate of speed. The consumer also felt the seat belt did not really perform as designed.
While traveling at70 mph another vehiclewas traveling east bound crossed consumers path unexpectantly, causing consumer to hit a tree.consumer states none of theairbags deployed. Please provide any further information.

The steering is a little sporadic at speeds 70 or higher or chachi.there is a lot of play in the steering mechanism you have to hold it with both hands to try to get some type of correction in the in the stability of the vehicle. I can't upload photographs or something i i don't know anything about.

I and my passenger were in an accident about a year ago, a very hard front end impact, and none of the air bags deployed. We were both transported to the er by ambulance, i hit the steering wheel hard so hard that it bent inwards and broke my nose also had a concussion. He was in the front passenger seat and hit the front dash, where the air bag should have deployed, he broke his front teeth and also had a concussion. I've also had many of the same issues that every other 02 or 03 envoy has yet my vin pulls no recalls. This needs to be investigated!!! thanks.
My wife and i were headed southbound on 685 in round rock, tx in our 2002 gmc envoy at approx. 9:35 pm when a driver in a mini van ran a red light at the intersection of 685 and gattis school rd. Our vehicle struck them in the rear passenger quadrant. The speed limit is 60 mph at this intersection and we did not have time to brake. Even though the front of our vehicle was crushed into the engine compartment, no airbags deployed. My wife, who is in the habit of wearing her seatbelt (although we still cannot confirm one way or the other) struck the rear view mirror with her head with enough force to break a hole in the windshield where it was attached and break the windshield around it. She was transported to the hospital with a concussion and had for a time gone incoherent and unresponsive with short term memory loss. She has had daily headaches since with some extremely severe. She also had multiple severe contusions down her left side, particularly in her upper left thigh with a large hemotoma that is still giving her problems. Our vehicle was subsequently totaled by the insurance companies. We have contacted gm about the failure of the airbags to deploy and they are currently investigating and sent an investigator to download the computer information last week. There is a police report that was filed by the texas dps investigating officer.

There is a problem with the ignition in my 2002 gmc envoy when the vehicle is on the key comes out of the ignition and it is not suppose to. I noticed that gm has the problem online and found out the hard way that my vehicle has this problem but gm has not put the 2002 gmc envoy on that recall list at all and i have already talked to them about it and they deny it i have the evnoy that the recals are on. All i get is the run around by gm about the recalls and they want me to pay for their mistakes. The envoy has 4+ other recall items as well the gm company don't want to take responseability for what they let happen and they need to be held liable for what is going on with the vehicles they made.
The contact has a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the master switch burned out on the vehicle. The dealership told the contact this part has been failing on many of these vehicles and the part is on back order, so the vehicle can not be repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 76500 and the current mileage was 77000. The vin was unavailable.
Transmission does not work properly.have had it repaired twice, but still vibrates, and fails to move vehicle forward at times, from a dead stop.is very dangerous at intersections where moving quickly is imperative.also wiring problems which operate various remote instruments (mirrors, seats, etc.)fear of fire.rear door latch was replaced - clicks "locked/unlocked" while driving.seats move on their own while driving. *nlm
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the power seats and mirrors would move independently. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileages were 105,000.
While in motion only, a engine light accompanied by a reduced engine power engages making the vehicle unmanageable to response and cause the vehicle to stall.
2002 gmc envoy, if you turn the heater controllers full hot you get 200 degree water running through the dash. Install a cd and the heat from the hot water plus laser in cd cause the disk to catch fire. This problem will probably happen in bravada and trail blazer also.
My 2002 gmc envoy lost all power three times at high rates of speed. The first time we had it serviced and i was told a module needed replaced. The second time, the car shut down at highway speeds but restarted approximately 15 minutes later but then the same thing happened again the next day while my wife was driving home from work traveling at 65 mph down a highway. We had it serviced again and this time i was told it was due to a loose wiring harnass. Car has had numerous problems since and it is an unsafe vehicle for my family to be transported in.
1: passenger seat belt likes to suffocate my passengers until they release rhe seat belt and rebuckle. 2: both dim headlights went out, checked relays, fuses, and bulbs nothing has worked. Then found out my 2 brake lights are out along with the dims and not sure what is causing this problem.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for the electrical system draining the battery. The contact had replaced the battery several times.the contact stated that an unknown gmc dealer was contacted but failed to diagnose the failure due to the diagnostic fees. The contact mentioned that the instrument panel possibly needed to be reprogrammed and was done by the previous owners. The failure mileage was 175,000.
Over the years i owned this vehicle, i had it serviced numerous times for engine failure.the last and final time, the dealership (ewing automotive) could not find anything wrong.however, while traveling on the highway at 60 miles an hour with a full tank of gas, i lost all power steering control and the car stopped dead.this was extremely dangerous and led me to take a minimal amount in a sale, just to get rid of this dangerous car.it is very disappointing to learn that gm was fully aware of this deadly issue.
Air conditioning won't blow out vents, and sunroof won't close all the way
Driver's side door panel controls not working. Includes power window, seat heater, power locks, etc. Not a fuse issue?
Stop engine/low oil pressure display continually comes on and while driving, the vehicle hesitates and at times will stall.after replacing pcm, oil sending unit, throttle body assembly, cleaning the pcv valve and map sensor and multiple other parts, i was told that the dealership did not know what it was and stated that they could replace the cam shaft actuator (for a cost of approx. $885), but they could not guarantee thatwould resolve the problem.i have taken my vehicle back to the same dealership from 02/14/2011 until 11/07/12 and still unable to fix the problem. I've filed a complaint with gmc manufacturer, but still have not been able to resolve my issues.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the instrument panel was inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. The failure mileage was 313,000.
My 2002 envoy has a problem with the doors electrical system. Sometimes when i drive over a bump in the road all 4 of the doors will unlock. This problem seems to occur more often during colder weather. The vehicle has been in service 4 times for this same problem, they tell me that they are unable to duplicate it. *nlm
I began to have issues with my headlights, low and high beams, flickering off and on at random for about 4 months until my brake lights started to do the exact same 7 months ago and now they have quit working all together! i have taken this suv to 4 different shops now, and nobody has been able to figure out why this is happening.the last mechanic who attempted to fix the issue, says he found an older recall on the original manufactured tag lights being malfunctioned to the point it causes issues with the front and back lights. The man shown me the information on this recall, seeing the part # is listed on there, i compared it to mine and a neighbor's 2002 envoy; which both of our envoys have these malfunctioned parts. Gm has not contacted us back, and we're at a loss because it's a part needed from them directly.we have spoken to many envoy owners on a web forum, and there are hundreds maybe thousands of envoys out there with these same issues, causing accidents on the road way too often! it's dangerous, and nobody will help with this irritating issue!
Vehicle has had numerous electrical problems.mirrors won't adjust, seat won't adjust, radio doesn't work, service engine light comes on, service air bag light comes on, car stalls at traffic lights, cruise control won't work unless i turn off engine and restart.vehicle was serviced by one dealer who could not find anything wrong.second dealer could only find air bag module burned up and charged $1500 to replace.
Driving at night and headlights on low beam and then they'llshut off.
Consumer had all of the weather proofing on the vehicle replaced by the dealer as well as the clutch assembly .the fan clutch was replaced, the air bag indicator light came on.the consumer was told that nothing could be done if the light wasn't on at the time.the plastic trim from the seat belt broke, the seat belt failed again, the transmission would drag, the engine light was on and made a grinding noise, the drivers side tire was loosing pressure, the passenger inner door seal leaked, the clock on the radio would reset itself, the drivers side seat belt would lock up when the brakes were applied they would skid and pull to the right. *sc

Consumer called complaining, having problems with trailer running light plug which is not working properly. Dealer has inspected in last year and could not duplicate orcorrect the problem. Also the consumer states there is not instruction on the manual book for this light plug. Please provide further information. Ts
Our 2002 gmc envoy was plagued with repeated electrical type problems nearly from the beginning of ownership in july 2001. These problems include locking us out while running, mirrors not holding programming, cd player changing tracks during play, driver seat moving forward and cd player coming on when vehicle was off and no key in ignition, cd player that was on shut itself off and the driver door unlocked during driving, "easy out" feature of the driver's seat moved it forward instead of rearward as programmed, fan and temp. Settings changing, dashboard gauges not working or illuminating while driving.we made repeated trips to a gmc dealer without repair because they could not duplicate the problems.after 17 months of ownership we were not happy and frustrated to have an expensive vehicle with so many problems so early on.our only recourse was to use the arbitration process with the bbb auto line and our state's lemon law.the arbitrator's decision required gmc to buy this vehicle back.we are very dissapointed gmc did not stand behind their product and concerned that this vehicle will be re-sold as is.
Electrical problem under dash. Dash lights, odometer, and gearposition indicator light inoperative. Dealer is changing the dashcluster module.
2002 gmc envoy slt.engine stalls at highway speeds. Loss of power brakes and steering.engine will not restart for anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes.this is the 5th time that this has happened to me in the past 4 years.4 times on the freeway and once on a surface road.this time i was with my wife and 11 month old daughter.i was not able to pull the car over to a safe location.i ended up in the left shoulder in next to the fast lane with only about a foot of space to my right where the cars were whizzing by.i cannot tell you the terror that i felt, as my daughter was in her child car seat on that side as the cars passed honking.this vehicle is very unsafe.i have read many internet postings and it appears that this problem occurs often with this make and model, yet whenever i take the vehicle to the dealership all i get is: no codes are displayed, we can't duplicate the problem, or they start throwing parts at it.so far i have replaced a fuel pump and a crank angle sensor, had the fuel injectors cleaned.the problem persists.i want to make sure that my description is clear.the engine temperature is normal, voltage is normal, outside temperature can be hot, warm or cold, it can be day or night.it has happened in all of these conditions.what is worse is that i cannot restart the engine for around 20-30 minutes, presumably there is some sort of reset on the computer ecm/pcm that occurs that grants me the right to now drive my vehicle again?this is unacceptable.my daughter, my wife or i could have been injured or even killed.i have never complained about this before except to the dealer but now that i have a baby, i am livid. I am a very experienced driver and have always been able to pull the vehicle to safety even without the power assisted brakes or steering.i very much worry about less experienced drivers such as my wife who is from a foreign country and has only been driving for two years.if she had been driving we would have.
After starting the car, a burning smell entered the cabin.noticed the volt gauge was only reading about 9 volts instead of the usual 14.took car in for check up, and found the alternator had failed. After removing alternator found that the pulley could not be turned as the unit had seized up. This also damaged the tensioner which had to be replaced along with the serpentine belt.the mechanic indicated that we were very close to having a fire.
I own a 2002 gmc envoy bought used and it has been a nightmare since i bought it thankfully i purchased an extended warranty.now they say the main fuse block has gone bad,how i couldn't guess, and they say it is not covered under the warranty.is this not an electrical hazard that should be covered before something drastic happens, i can't believe i'm the only one this has happened to considering everything that has gone wrong with this vehicle!
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle experienced a total loss of power and the instrument panel malfunctioned. The vehicle was not able to be restarted and had to be towed away to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the main fuse needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 248,000.
A day after replacing the battery, while driving, the driver seat started readjusting and heating on its own so iturned on air conditioner to compensate since i had no idea what to do about the seat while driving. When i did, rear passengers said the rear vents started blowing heat, and a strange clicking noise was heard in the right rear panel, so i shut off the air, opened the windows and clicking and heat subsided. However, the drivers seat continued to readjust and heat throughout my trip and the right rear window had to be pushed up manually once stopped because the electric opener for that window was no longer working.
I have had multiple electrical and transmission problems with my 2002 gmc envoy. Yesterday my family and i were driving on interstate 80, while on cruise control, the suv shut off. I barely was able to get to the side of the road. I almost hit a vehicle getting off the highway since i lost power steering. After 15 minutes of not starting, it finally started. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they couldnt find anything. I have written many letters and tried to convince gmc that this suv is not safe.
The electrical system shut down while driving 45 mph on the highway. There was no warning. Consumer called for a tow truck so that the vehicle could be inspected. The entire electrical system had to be replaced and updated.
Windshield wipers andtransmission are not functioning properly due to a malfunction in the electrical system.
Headlights stay on, or flash randomly, making battery drain.
On the way home from galveston , txafter spending time at the beach .the window switcheswould no longer work .their was noise in the arm rest.
Inoct. 2003, i was driving to workin rush hour traffic and upon coming to a traffic light my envoy stalled out and instrument panel went blank; car would not restart & message displayed to service engine & contact onstar, i was unable to get envoy off of road & sat there for 45 minutes waiting for tow truck to tow vehicle to royal oldsmobile where they said they replaced computer system; since that time in jan 2004 vehicle was in garage & would not start; vehicle was pushed out of garage & battery was recharged with jumper cables; vehicle was taken to royal oldsmobile & i was told that battery was leaking & that they had replaced battery; this vehicle has been the most unreliable vehicle i have ever had; i am leasing this envoy & i am afraid it will stall out again; also last summer without warning, the air conditioning just quit working while driving on vacation; after envoy was cut off & engine cooled, then air conditioning started working again; this is a leased vehicle & i want to know who i can talk to about turning vehicle in early & also what information is available about envoy stalling outwithout warning.
Electrical system failure.
Consumer states while comiing down a hill pcm shorted out.as a result, driver lost all electrical functions. Steering wheel got really stiff.brake pedal became hard to press.
Consumer states the electrical system (electronic) is not working properly, dealer has repaired several times and still reoccuring the problems. Please provide furthewr information. Mr
The gmc envoy's electronics fail.no dash instruments or radio controls.happens intermittently. Occurs when driving.the engine races unexpectedly.this has happened 10 to 12 times.the slv-truck is currently at the dealer who is once again attempting to repair it.
We were driving on interstate 5 at 60 mph when the engine just quit.we were able to coast to the side of the freeway. Had to have the envoy towed to our mechanic. They could not find anything wrong with it. We now believe it was an ignition problem like with the other gmc vehicles.
I purchased a 2002 gmc envoy new in 2002. Early this year the starter quit working, i had it towed to the dealer, they told me the starter was bad and it would cost$625. I repaired cars for 30 years before i became handicapped, now i am unable to repair, when i did repair i put about 20 starters in for $39 for the starter and 1 hour labor.
My right window passenger side window would not go up so i took it to a shop. He took the piece where i control the window off and it had caught on fire. It was all melted & corroded i have pictures
We were again driving on interstate 5 at 60 mph when the engine just stopped. We were once again able to coast to the side of the road.this is the 2nd time our envoy just stopped running at 60 mph. Again, the mechanics could not figure out why this happened.i happened one more time, but i do not have the date.so that makes three times our 2002 gmc envoy suddenly quit running while at a high speed on the freeway.we are concerned this is an ignition problem like with the other gm vehicles this has happened to.
Vehicle has stalled twice at 65 mph. Vehicle taken to dealer 6 times. Dealer replaced computer.consumer states vehicle is experiencing electrical problems.air level system deflates each night, part is on back order.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.upon entering the vehicle, the contact smelled an egg odor and detected fumes along with a burning smell.the contact did not drive the vehicle.three weeks later, the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they discovered that the front door multi-function switch burned, melted, and needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 60,000.updated 4/16/08
Submission from constituent re gmc executive letter reply in engine stalling/stopping while being driven on the freeway of california.the consumer stated the vehicle stalled several times. Also, the service engine soon light illuminated, due to a faulty ignition coil. The dealer also replaced the ignition switch, as the possible cause of the engine stalling.the consumer continued to experience stalling issues, as the dealer was unable to determine the cause.when the vehicle stalled, the abs and brake warning light illuminated. The dealer found the rear speed sensor connector broken and not sitting properly in the sensor. They repositioned the connector and secured it to the sensor. The consumer discovered a recall, which described the same symptoms he experienced. Recall # 04v289000.

I have been complaining of multiple problems with my 2002 gmc envoy since i purchased it in 2002.the most serious of these is the fact that my engine seems to idle very high sometimes and my gauges quit working temporarily.on 7/25/2005 i lost all power to my vehicle while it was running.i lost power steering brakes, etc. And had to coast to safety.i was very lucky that i did not hit another vehicle or crash.had this happened on a busy highway or while my children were in the car it makes me sick to think of what may have happened.
Engine non-start problems -- waiting 15-20 minutes seems to correct. Wandering side view mirrors.rubbing noise when turning tightly.driver's side door movement noise when turning over bumps. Side mirror air noise.the 1st. Two (2) problems have been ongoing, and the most concerning, since the vehicle was purchased new in 2001.it has been in for repairs to two (2) gmc dealers numerous times, and an ignition recall repair was done and the dealer assumed it would correct the non-start problem.it did until yesterday.more importantly however, shortly after this vehicle was purchased, gmc's owner assistance help has been sought for these (2) problems assuming they may inform the dealer of engineering fixes, but to no avail.
After numerous recalls on my 2002 envoy i was leaving for work and the vehicle would not start. The dash lit up, horn, radio, alarm all worked, but the vehicle would not start. I could move gear shift from p to n and it still would not start. I had to have the vehicle towed at my expense. I was told gmc roadside assistance doesnt apply if you have aaa. Dealer said (according to the computer codes) that it might have been a faulty ingition switch. They replaced it but it happened again. Now the dealer said there are no comupter codes this time so they have no idea what to do. It has been at the dealer 10 days now. Every time the dealer turns the key it starts up with no problem. I have contacted gmc on a daily basis to find out what they plan on doing. I bought it new, and it only has 18,400 miles on it. I'm supposed to hear from gmc today on what they are going to do. This vehicle is not safe to drive. It has stalled on the highway about a yearand after i restarted it, it would not shift out of a lower gear and the engine was very loud. I had to have the rotors machined at 12000 miles because the brakes were pulsing hard and the rotors were pitted. So much for buying a new vehicle that should be dependable! i'm making payments for a vehicle that i dont have!
There is a problem with the electrical system.vehicle shuts off intermittently. Vehicle has experienced this problem five times.
Consumer receive recall notice # 03v075000 subject: fmvss 114 mechanical override.on 6/12/2003consumer contacted the dealer, whostated that consumer could come anytime within working hours. Dealer did not even look into this.06/14 to 06/18/03 18,000 to 18,214 miles car off road for 5 days due to engine died while driving.i referenced ecas and pcm problem nhtsa defect summary ea03007.dealer tells us no-one else has had this problem.suggests driving round dealership until problem occurs, and then calling them.don't try to start until they come out (never mind we're in the middle of a busy road and in the evening time when they are closed). We are lucky we were not rear-ended this last time.gmc refuse to replace ecas wiring bundle and pcm solution per ea03007.help!!! help!!! please help!!!*nlm
Below is copy of letter given to gm dealership following the engine failure at high speed:10/05/2001to : bob ross service department2002 gmc envoy3,240 milesproblem: on sunday october 4th, my wife was driving on 675 to fairfield mall from our home at 6:10 pm in the evening.she had traveled about 8 miles and was going 65 mph in the middle lane when the envoy suddenly lurched and then quickly slowed with total loss of engine power.the headlights (it was dark) were still on and the check abs light came on as she coasted to the berm in moderate traffic.at that point the car would turn over (battery ok) with the key but would not fire.she called on-star and they said it would have to be towed and called dispatch (case 00244572).she also called me so that i could pick her up.when i got to the car, approximately 6:15, i turned over the engine and it fired.the check abs lamp was still on.i waited for the tow truck and he followed me to the bob ross dealership.as i started to drive, the abs lamp went out, but the check engine soon lamp came on and stayed on the entire drive to the dealership (about 8 miles) where it was parked at 6:50 pm sunday night. During the drive, it was obvious the transmission would not shift out of one of the lower range gears (not sure which one) and it appears the engine was running in ''limp home mode''.it would appear some computer glitch has occurred which is critical to the entire engine control program. I am very concerned in that this vehicle only has 3240 miles and the total and sudden loss of power in moderate traffic and darkness could have placed my wife in a precarious position as she tried to move to the berm with no power assist (steering or brakes) available.please check the vehicle out carefully to determine the cause of this unacceptable failure.john perkins
Vehicle has stalled twice at 65 mph. Vehicle taken to dealer 6 times. Dealer replaced computer.consumer states vehicle is experiencing electrical problems.air level system deflates each night, part is on back order.

Dt: contact statesd the windshield wipers will not work except on high.the service dealer stated a bad air conditioning cycling switch caused the windshield wipers to fail.they stated the ignition switch module, windshield wiper module, and the air conditioning cycling switch needed to be replaced, and the computer program needed to be updated.the engine lost all power while driving; there were no warning lights or indication that there was any thing wrong with the vehicle.there was a recal 04v046000on the windshield wiper motor, the recall was serviced, but the consumer stated the module was already broke. The vehicle will be serviced, but atconsumer's expense.the consumer has already filed a complaint on the ignition switch module.
The electrical computer memory for the exterior mirrors and the seat adjuster failed.this caused the seats for driver and passenger side not to be adjusted.also the mirrors are not able to be adjusted.driver has to continously adjust the miirrors in order to see. Dealer reset memory seats, reprogrammed mirror memory, and replaced left and right front seat modules.did not remedy problem.customer states that there is a fuel leak loss of 1/2 tank in 3 miles.dealer repaired loose connection between main fuel line and the fuel tank.
Stoped by cop, unaware rt front light went out, got warning letter. Socket burnt and smelled strongly of electrical burning. Taking it to dealer on monday.
Continued electrical problems with 2002 gmc envoy.such as on-star telephone along with radio/cd player, all four doors failing to lock or open including the back hatch. Vehicle was totalled. Front lower control arm was broken, consumer has parts for inspection, part of break was clean, the other part rusted through. Consumer called gmc about recall on this part, was toldthis vehicle was not affected. Due to vin.
Turn switch previously replaced becuase hazards came on when putting on turn signal.now windshield wipers are stuck on and had to pull fuse to stop, will be returning to dealer, again
2002 gmc envoy with several recalls and repairs. Consumer states that the dealer said the only recall on her vehicle was for the instrument panel. Mechanic stated the warranty expired and she would have to pay for the recall repair. Recall # 03v096000.
Turned ignition on and instrumental panel was completely dead, there was no illumination.
Entire driver's dash module goes out while driving.no gauges available. Have taken to dealership where they can find no problem.have contacted gm hdq , inspected by area zone manager who states no problem with vehicle.this same vehicle has had numerous engine stalls while driving, rear end loading suspension giving out and dashboard console blackouts.gm refuses to buy back, please help get this vehicle off the road as i fear for my life driving it.
Turnedignition on andinstrumental panel was completely dead. There was no illumination. Please provide vehicle indentification number, and any further information.
While driving, all gauges went blank, dark, had to stop vehicle and turn off the engine, after 5 minutes, turned it back on.gauges started working again.dealer could not duplicate problem.
Mid june 2006, wife drove to work and stopped at a gas station to get gas. When she restarted the car, the instrument power panel did not work nor any of the instruments such as speedometer. She continued to her job and parked the car. When she left work and started the car, everything was working again. She took the car to a gmc dealer about the problem. They said they could not do anything because everything appears to be working. I have done a search about recalls and found that a recall nhtsa 03v096000 appears to affect me. I am told by gmc that my vin number does not apply to this recall.
The steering is a little sporadic at speeds 70 or higher or chachi.there is a lot of play in the steering mechanism you have to hold it with both hands to try to get some type of correction in the in the stability of the vehicle. I can't upload photographs or something i i don't know anything about.
Severe electrical problems in vehicle, everything stopped working on it!!!!vehicle shut down in a middle of a busy intersection, i replaced transmission 2 times as well!!!!had no lights, turning signals,no heat heat then the vehiclejust stopped completely nothing just dead!!! had battery checked wasnt that!!!! they told me electrical issues not sure what only had vehicle 3 months!!! i had had 2004 trailer blazer before this same issues!!!! only had it 2 months and transmission went out pd that then once again electrical problems!!!!!
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving at approximately 75 mph, there was a reduction in the engine power with a rapid increase of the engine rpms. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,280.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted, but the failure recurred multiple times. An independent mechanic stated that the engine failed. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
We were driving on interstate 5 at 60 mph when the engine just quit.we were able to coast to the side of the freeway. Had to have the envoy towed to our mechanic. They could not find anything wrong with it. We now believe it was an ignition problem like with the other gmc vehicles.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the diagnosis was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 152,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the low oil pressure warning light illuminated as the vehicle immediately stalled. The vehicle was restarted and operated as designed. Two weeks later the failure recurred while the contact was driving 55 mph. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the cooling fan would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 150,100.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that after multiple attempts, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The technician made the contact aware of recall nhtsa campaign id number: 04v289000 (engine and engine cooling). However, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 1,001.
The motor started a fire!
While driving the envoy at about 45 mph, a warning light saying "reduced engine power" came on suddenly, the car dropped down to about 20 mph, and that continues to occur.i can turn off and restart the car, but the problem returns within a minute after driving it again. I started investigating what that means online, and, as with anything else on the internet, i see many opinions, guesses, and possibilities.could be a bad sensor, bad throttle control, bad wire connections, etc.but this much appears clear:(1) it is a gm problem, and a very, very common one.(2)it is a dangerous problem.this seems pretty obvious - the car suddenly loses speed and evidently sometimes stalls out altogether. But hearing about so many other people's scary experiences just confirms this.(3)it can be difficult and expensive to diagnose and fix.when i think of these facts, coupled with gm's recent history, i immediately think "recall."this certainly appears to be an appropriate situation for a manufacturer to step in and fix the issue before more people get angry with gm, get hurt, or get killed.i called the dealer who sold the car (i am the second owner), in columbus, ohio.i was told that i can bring it in for a diagnosis for $110. (gee, thanks - wouldn't have thought of that.)the customer rep looked up the vin and said that the vehicle was not eligible for recall or any special policy.therefore, i am contacting you in hope that something else can be done.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that when attempting to power off the vehicle, the engine continued to be on. The contact had to remove the fuse in order to shut the vehicle off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving at any speed, the engine shut off without warning. The vehicle restarted intermittently. The failure recurred multiple times.the dealer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 04v289000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Vehicle loses power drastically when going up any incline.was going 65 and speed dropped to 35 going up slight grade hill.
Rough idle while in park and while shifting to second gear. Engine light flashing, oil in spark plug wells, cylinder misfire on cylinder #4. Changed spark plugs & wires, this did not remedy the situation. I had the suv for 1 month and the drive train went bad. Two months later, i got my truck back from the mechanic because parts needed to be certified by a gm engineer. I have had nothing but mechanical failures since 2010 when i bought the vehicle. Now i have at least five troubleshooting codes and now i'm being told that the cylinder head needs replaced. This shouldn't be happening and i know now that i will never buy another gmc product ever again.
Vehicle stalls without warning while driving, posing a safety hazard for other motorists.dealer originally diagnosed and replaced ignition switch, but problem is still occurring.ph
When vehicle is at a completestop or idling engine will die out. The dealership reprogrammed the main computer chip, but the problem recurred. They the replaced the chip. Please provide more details.
My 2002 envoy has stalled 3 times now while traveling on the highway.each time the engine quits and will not restart until disconnecting and re-connecting the battery.since this last time the car displays abs light and speedometer does not work even after disconnecting battery.dealer says i have to replace a computer now.sounds like recall 04v289000 but my vin is not included in that recall.
When reaching 70 mph vehicle shut down without any warning. Vehicle had been reapired three times; however problem still exists.
When i start the truck in the morning it sounds like the engine is revved up with the loud fan noise. I had the fan clutch replaced independently and the loud noise continues and a slight loss of power at times while driving and it feels like it's taking too long shift into the next gear. The noise is really heard when you accelerate on the gas pedal.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving approximately 45 mph, smoke and flames emitted from under the hood. The contact was able to exit the vehicle and with assistance, the flames were extinguished. There was no personal injury. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who advised that the failure was contributed to the wiring harness being positioned too close to the exhaust manifold. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.
Failure of engine cooling system and four wheel drive system.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph or more the vehicle would suddenly stall. None of the warning lights illuminated on the instrumental panel. He was able to restart the vehicle and take it to the dealer who diagnosed the failure as being the cooling fan clutch. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that he noticed a burnt odor in the engine area. When he inspected, he found an oil leak at the head gasket because it was made of aluminum. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 56,680.
Everything started april last year and its one thing after another since.first my engine started stalling, while driving.one incident, i lost half a tank of gas within a 15 minute ride, which i have a 17 gallon tank.then while driving on an expressway, it suddenly dropped from 70 to 20 before i could get over two lanes to get out of the way of traffic.ive cleaned the throttle body, ive cleaned the camshaft actuator, ive replaced the air filter, fuel filter, and the oil twice within a 8 month period, and yet it still continues to stall.now i recently change the water pump to see if that would help, even though my car was not over heating, now its stalling even worse; i cant even make it through a drive through without having to start it twice. Second and even scarrier issue, i hit pot hole one day and before i could make 15 miles, i heard grinding.a cv joint had to be replaced, then two days after that the other cv joint broke off and broke my front axle disconnect assembly.did i hit anybody?no thank god i was in the right hand lane and could get over without hitting anyone or causing injury to myself.ive replaced both cv joints and the assembly now and even did the struts while i was at it, but have also been told i need control arms now.and still my car is stalling, grinding when i turn and i cant get the check engine light to clear long enough to get it inspected.my drivers side windshield works when it wants to and now the car is starting to vibrate unbelievably.ive kept my oil changed, ive kept my filters changed, ive never taken this thing off road and have had it over 7 years and just in the last year i have dumped more money in this car than i have since ive owned it.
I own a 2002 gmc envoy. For the past year or so, i've been having trouble whenever i stop at a red light, the car starts to shake and sometimes turns off. I usually turn the car off and start it up again. On monday, july 27th, i was driving when my car suddenly shut down. Luckily i was able to get the car to a safe spot and no further damage was done to my car or other property. I tried starting the car again and it would not start. I had to get the car towed to a nearby mechanic. Once there, the mechanic looked over the car and determined that it was the computer engine and that it was under recall. He had me call gmc so that i could report the incident. When i called, i was told that there was no recalls on my exact car but that she would contact the mechanic and get some more information. After a couple days of waiting with no vehicle or call from gmc, i finally get a call back from the mechanic telling me that he spoke to the gmc representative and that they would be calling me back to set up a date and time to take my car to the dealership to have fixed and that the recall information was correct. About an hour later, i received a call from gmc and she told me that they were not going to cover the repair. Never having to deal with this before, i was completely confused as to what was going on and why gmc was not covering it. This is a huge safety concern for me and i would like to get some resolution from it.
When the vehicle was started a ticking noise was heard for 1-2 minutes.the driver drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the problem could not be duplicated and that the vehicle was operating normally.
Engine stalls, causing consumer towait a half an hour to start vehicle again. Thishashappenedthree times. Dealer has inspected vehicleand could not duplicateor correct the problem. Please provide further information.also, abs failure.
2002 gmc envoy has a lower engine noise. Under extended warranty, adjuster is holding up repair for over two weeks. Vehicle has had regular oil changes. Vehicle has only 57,800 miles. Was recalled for pmc valve and had trans problem brand new. Totally disgusted with this truck.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.while driving 50-70 mph, the engine failed and the vehicle lost total power.the failure has occurred on four occasions.the vehicle was taken to the dealer from where it was purchased three times, but they could not duplicate the failure.the vehicle was taken to an out of town dealer and has currently been in the shop for four weeks.the manufacturer stated that they could not assist because the failure was not under warranty.the current mileage was 67,000 and failure mileage was 56,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the low oil pressure warning indicator. The vehicle restated and resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who informed there was a faulty power train control module. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 04v829000 (engine and engine cooling). The vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for the similar failure. The technician was in the process of replacing the fuel pump. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Driving on the interstate at 65 mph.without any warning the vehicle suddenly lost power.no warnings flashed on the information panel or anything.able to coast the vehicle to a safe stop.scared too death!could have gotten killed.tried several times to restart the vehicle it would not.waited along side the interstate for 15 - 20 minutes before the vehicle restarted.this vehicle completely shut down without any warning!
2002 envoy sltalso when slowing down to an idle has shut off engine.put up in park and will start back up. Dash light states service engine and service on star. Have not been able to fix problem yet.
Roaring sound, no power, vehicle can barely reach 30mph, loud noise has existed for long time (several years) and the power problem usually resolved after about 5 minutes. This is a defect. I found hundreds of owners complaining of same problem on line. Dealer replaced fan clutch.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact was driving 40 mph when the low engine power warning lamp illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the pcm was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v289000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 48,000.
I have a roaring sound at times when i first begin driving the vehicle.if i slow down or stop within the first 5 minutes of driving, the vehicle commonly stalls.has never stalled at a high rate of speed.i have the ecas (electric suspension) on my vehicle, but i was not part of recall 04v289000 as far as i know.this recall sounds exactly like what is happening with my vehicle.this problem has been going on for at least 3-4 years, and even the dealer "can't seem to find the problem."i'll i ever hear is that the computer doesn't show any problems.the vehicle is a piece of '!@#$%.
While driving 70 mphvehicle stalled.as result, vehicle coasted to the side of the road. Consumer stated he had to wait 30 minutes before starting vehicle again.
Water pump failure at 47000 miles on a 2002 gmc envoy.
Consumerwas complaining about having problems with the engine. Also, while driving vehicle has lost completely power and had no brakes or steering power. Dealer was contacted, and had no idea as why this was happening.
The anti-freeze is turning into a pudding substance. I do not know why it does this, but on all of my gm vehicles this happens. I have them flushed and refilled but the problem continues to occur.
Transmission does not seem to downshift; loud fan noise with loss of power; hard shift into gear from start; missing rear seat latch to hold down seat and easily wobbles when shaken; hook for latch is present but no latch present seems to be design flaw.
Engine tended to rev at a high level until warmed up.finally would not come down to a normal level due to a failed fan clutch.vehicle was out of warranty, and dealer quoted $800 for repairs.had the fan clutch replaced independently, which now has us back to the original high level of revving for several minutes before running normal.disappointed to see the number of similar failures, and yet the dealer acts like this is an unheard of event.
Dt: contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.contact was driving on road fan sped up and the heat went up. Contact took vehicleto dealer, and they told her to replace the fan clutch motor. The piece to fix the vehicle cost $350.a local mechanic fixed the problem. No crashes. No police reports. Incident dateoctober 1, 2005.
A couple of months ago i took my vehicle in for several complaints and a repair under warranty.i explained to the dealer the loud fan noise, loss of power during this noise, which happened occasionally upon start up and disappeared after a mile or two of travel.at this time i was told they could not locate the problem.now the noise is constant.i had a mechanic drive it during this noise and he indicated it was a failed clutch fan.in my research to find a tsb (aka technical service bulletin) related to my issue, i was able to find such a bulletin, amongst many customer complaints with the same issue.
Last year (2005) the clutch fan locked up and stayed locked up until we took it to a gm dealer. They said there was a bulletin on this and the pcm needed to be re-programmed. That solved the problem. The vehicle looses power, won,t shift properly and this happens without notice. One minute it's fine and then it's not. Now one year later the same problem has occurred. This is ridiculous!! i now have to take it to a dealer and pay to have it re-programmed. If this is a continuing problem, i don't understand why gm can't just replace the chip that holds the code, and be done with it.
I drive a 2002 gmc envoy and for the last 2&1/2 years during the summer, i usually notice that the fan seems to run very frequently. After a few minutes it usually stops and i don't think about it again until we restart it.we've taken it to two different dealerships including the one we purchased it from and they tell us there is nothing wrong with the car-it's just hot outside and the engine needs to be cooled by the fan so it runs longer and louder.today, i took it in because it would not quit running and my check engine light came on.they want $700 to fix the fan clutch which we've been trying to tell them wasn't operating correctly this whole time.
Service engine light illuminates, engine cooling fan engages, engine power greatly reduces and transmission shifts improperly.loud noise from computer controlled engine cooling fan.vehicle will not accelerate or shift properly when driving with fault.fan clutch replaced, computer programming changed with no success of fixing problem.gmc refuses to buy back vehicle.dealership indicates this problem is occurring on all 2002 gmc envoy's at varying levels mine being worse case.vehicle is unsafe for use in any traffic situation as the problem manifest itself rapidly with severe loss of engine power, loud noises from engine and poor shifting and acceleration.
Air conditioner cooling becomes intermittent.gm dealer commented that they have been having a number customer complaints about this issue and have been having of " a lot" of problems with the fan relay sensor and the cooling fan clutch.repair calls for replacement of entire fan assembly and sensor/switch.cost of repair approx $1,000.
This is my second letter to your company gmc.plain and simple all i am looking for is the value of my investment.i have no desire to get anything free nor am i just trying to get a new vehicle.the 2002 envoy i purchased from you a year and a half ago would be fine if i did not have so many problems with it.about a month ago it had to have a new motor and this past week it had to go back to the shop to have a fan replaced at a cost of $800. I expect that next month i will be paying $500 plus dollars for some other repair.i knew that once this repair was done to the most important system of the vehicle i would have major problems for as long as i have this envoy.i am not going to allow this company to keep me in this situation. This is my final attempt to reason with gmc to work out some way for me to get a dependable vehicle that affords me the years of service any reasonable person would expect for a 30k investment. My gmc sr # is 1-5521-9927.i am quite aware of your assertion that you replaced the engine out of warranty free of charge.i would counter that claim by saying that the problems with the engine started long before the warranty expired.i have the service contract to show this. My point is i am still stuck with a 2002 gmc truck that has suffered a major engine failure and all the problems that come with that failure and this is just 2003. I would also say that the very fact that the engine failed so soon does not speak well of this vehicle or your company.i hope this is not the standard you have established for your vehicle.now only a few weeks after the engine is replaced i am faced with the truck going back to the shop for a major repair.i still have not mentioned the other problems i have had with the envoy.letters to the better business bureau, and consumer protection agency will also be written.please send me a written response to this letter.kelvin oneal buck, customer
Already replaced the fan clutch at 39000 miles. It cost me close to $800, $300+ for the new fan , and $400+ for labor. The dealer installed the new computer software.now at 42700 miles thefan clutch, the thermostat broken.the bad news, i shipped this envoy to the dominican republic , already talking to the local dealer.my question to all was, in observation of all the fan clutch problems, didthis require a recall. Now , that i knew about so many people having this problem, either the dealer and gmc refund me for the first fan clutch and repair or replace with current one, or i will definitely sue them.has anyone taken this action?
In my 2002 gmc envoy, i have had to replace my engine fan clutch 3 times.after research on different forums, there seems to a problem with this part.
Whenengine fan comes on vehicle slows down and won't shift to a higher gear.the dealer says this is normal operation for this vehicle.
1) periodic loud, but not sustained, engine fan roaring noise for 1-2 years.2) noise finally would not stop and was diagnosed as seized fan clutch, after warranty expiration.3) replacement of cooling fan clutch at a cost of $630.16 on a vehicle with only 37,188 miles.
I am writing to file a complaint regarding my 2002 gmc envoy. It has 46550 miles on it and the fan clutch has failed on it. After searching online i noticed that this seems to be a very common problem with these vehicles i.e. Gmc envoy/chevy trailblazer. The dealership is offering to fix it for 900.00.i will have it fixed, i don't have a choice, but i will keep the old part just in case anyone ever needs to see it. I'm hoping that one day your agency will se that this is a real problem with these vehicles and recall them. Thank you.
I have a 2002 gmc envoy. It suddenly dies at highway speeds.no engine,no brakes, no steering. And won't restart for 30 or 40 minutes. This has happened 6 times, the last 2 oni-99 and the washington beltway, where i was nearly killed by the truck behind me.while searching the net , i discoveredabout 12 other owners of the same vehicle who experienced the same problems.the dealer can find no problem and gm refuses to help. After a month in the shop, my envoy was returned to me without a fix.the dealer says gm will offer no consideration.i called gm customer relations, talked to a monica cox, no help. Subsequent calls to her were not returned.this is a very dangerous vehicle as i have experienced more than once.i don't know how long my luck will hold out. The date of the event that i will indicate below will be for the last episode and is approximate. The vehicle was used but had less than 1000 miles on it when i purchased it. 953 to be exact. *la
Vehicle stalls intermittently while driving.dealer has serviced 4 times, but has not been able to duplicate or diagnose cause.
Engine died at high speed on highway, fortunately no accident.engine had to be replaced by gm due to defective manufacture, piston ring slipped and damaged drive shaft.extremely frustrating experience dealing with gm.
Driving on the interstate at 70 miles per hour, without warning the engine stalled.no crank and the car would not restart.panel lights operational, abs and emergency brake warning lights illuminated.car is currently at dealership awaiting repairs.
Vehicle's air bag light keep flashing/ vehicle running on high rpm's.*mrair bag sensor replaced and calibrations had to be updated. Additional problems included faded window moldings, loss of power and steering.ignition switch and fuse block was replaced.inoperative power mirrors.parts had to be ordered.consumer was upset with the number of problems experienced with vehicle and the number of recalls on this new suv.
The vehicle stalled without warning.
Engine failure due to manufacturers factory defect to one or two pistons in the engine.engine was replaced by leith gmc service center on 05/10/02 with a new engine.
Driving on road and heard loud clattering noise and then engine died. Lost all power! brought to dealer by flatbed and found camshaft broke off due to loss of oil. Dealer is supposedly fixing problem. 35,000 miles on it. Just bought in march of 04. We think it is engine defect.
The engine failed in the middle of a busy road.the low engine power light came on, followed by service engine soon light and then the vehicle lost all power. Towed to the dealer. Problem was cylinder sleeve flew out and damaged the engine. Required a new engine. Vehicle had 15000 miles on. Gm offered to do whatever it takes to keep me happy and loyal. I request from them to credit all the payments i made on this vehicle to the purchase of 2003 escalade . They counter offered an extended warranty for 60,000 miles. I said no. I am buying a land cruiser this weekend. No more gm cars. The worst. Including the high end cadillac . Just review the complaints on this site and you will see for your self.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 20 mph a noise was heard from the engine and the clutch fan was sticking.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for inspection.the mechanic determined the clutch fan needed to be replaced.the clutch fan was replaced and the manufacturer was alerted.
February 2003 engine failed at only 8,000 miles.driving at 45 miles an hour, without warning engine stop and car shut down.dealership had to replace engine.i have had several problems since and nothing corrected.dash board lights/computer does not work at times.very loud wind noise while driving.now loud noise coming from engine and dealership cannot fix 100%.this is the first time i have ever felt this unsafe in any vehicle.manufacturer gave and extension on the replaced engine but that does not make me feel safer.i have contacted manufacturer on several occasions.when they do not do anything about all the problems, you cannot complain or go any further than clerk working on your case.even if you mail in a complaint about the clerk, your complaint will only go as far as that clerk assigned to your case.
While waiting to proceed in traffic with foot on brake and car in drive, engine suddenly stalled out and was unable to be restarted. Also, driverside mirror keeps resetting when unlocking the automatic doors. Wipers don't function properly when in intermittent mode. Car is at dealer now, hopefully they can resolve this. Vehicle is equipped with rainsense automatic rain sensing wipers.rainsense works only when in intermittent mode.settings adjust sensitivity of wipers but not frequency.wiper fails to make a complete smooth pass across windshield.they stop several times during their sweep and stutter.after a few second pause they resume their sweep.wipers work fine when set to standard high or low wiper settings. *kmb
Severe loss of engine power, loud noises from engine and poor shifting and very poor acceleration.
We experienced, like a lot of people who posted complaints with nhtsa about engine failure in envoys that are not even year old or over 10,000 miles.we had an experience with our 2002 envoy where on thurs. 12/19 my husband was accelerating off of a take off ramp onto the beltway and all of a sudden he heard a loud clattering noise.he pulled over to the shoulder and could not go any further.we had it towed to the gmc dealer and they determined that there was a drive train failure with pieces found down to the six cyclinder head.they are replacing the engine with an "updated" engine, which means to me that there was a problem with the first run engines.according to complaints posted to your website this has happened to lots of people. When is the recall coming?stopping abruptly in the middle of the highway is very dangerous.does it take someone to get killed before a recall can be done?we are in negotiations with gmc at this time.i would like a response to my e-mail.
02/11/02 4,667 miles everything shut off. Engine stopped while driving. Restarted at 2000 rpm with lots of noise.05/29/02 7,463 miles vehicle died and would not restart until after 15-20 minutes06/05/02 7,664 miles vehicle died while driving and would not restart until after 15-20 minutes 11/13/02 11,528 miles backing out of driveway engine died. Would not restart. Towed in.06/10/03 17,865 miles died while driving.
Re odi#10026102: vehicle with stalling problem brought to dealer who detected no defect. Dealer unable to rectify problem. I hope stalling problem does not occur at highway speeds as it has with other vehicles, same make and model.dealer stated wandering driverside mirror fixed. We'll see.
I am concern about safety defect that exist in my gmc envoy 2002. I own this vehicle since march 2002 (1 year) and it stalled 5 times already when driving.it happend 3 times when i stopped my vihicle at red traffic light and 2 times when breaking to slow down, driving downhill before a curve. This 2 times have scared me so much that i am affraid to use this car again. I drive cars for 28 years and nothing like that has happend to me in my life. Engine stops working, all lights go out and there is no control over the car whatsoever. I am happy no one got hurt in those incidents. This car has only 16k miles on it and has been in service numerous times already, including power steering leak - 2 times repaired. I do not think driving this car is safe and for that reason i cannot use it anymore.
2002 gmc envoy engine stalls while stopped at traffic light. Sometimes a near-stall condition occurs whereby the engine idle dips really low, engine shudders, then idle recovers.this usually happens just before or after the air compressor for the rear suspension inflates.so far the pcm, throttle body, and ignition switch have been replaced.dealer is currently making 4th attempt to fix problem.problem has been occurring since 8/2002.
Upon being inspected at the nearest local dealership, the #6 piston was found to have "splintered" a half moon piece off the top of the piston head.this in turn "popped" the cylinder sleeve retaining ring from the top of the cylinder when the piston came up.with the ring removed, the cylinder sleeve also rose outside of the cylinder wall and was caught by the piston on the downward travel.the complete engine was replaced.vehicle was in the shop for 20 days.the dealer's shop foreman checked the records and found that 150 other engines will be directly affected with a possible 180 probably affected.
While operatingvehicleat about 75 mph infast lanevehicle lostpower, almost causing an accident. Loss of engine power/ steering power, andoncevehicle came to a stop.dashboard illumination showedbrake check valve defect.
While driving about 45 mph, engine will suddenly stall without prior warning.has happened twice.has contacted dealer . Consumer added this condition has happended 3 times, dealer changed board in the computer system, however consumer does not feel that the problem is remedied.
*april 3, 2002 i took a co-worker to lunch that afternoon when upon returning to our place of employment the vehicle stalled without notice.i was traveling southbound on route 17 in allendale, which is a divided highway.all power to the engine was lost, including control of the acceleration, anti-lock brakes and power steering.i was able to coax the vehicle into the company parking lot but was unable to restart the vehicle.*may 6, 2002 i was on my way home that evening and the vehicle stalled without notice.i was traveling northbound on booton rd in lincoln park, with is a four-lane road.all power to the engine was lost, including control of the acceleration, anti-lock brakes and power steering.i was able to coax the vehicle onto a side residence street but was unable to restart the vehicle.*may 9, 2002 i was on my way home that evening and the vehicle stalled without notice.i was about to turn onto booton rd in wayne and was completely stopped at an intersection.prior to the light change, the engine stalled and i was unable to restart the engine.as a result i was blocking an intersection that was an outlet for route 23, a divided highway.after 20 minutes, the police came and blocked off traffic behind me.i subsequently had the vehicle towed. *may 11, 2002 i was on my way to a car wash in wayne after picking up the vehicle that morning.i had traveled approximately sixty miles from the time that i picked up the vehicle.i was next in line to receive a car wash and the vehicle stalled without notice.all power to the engine was lost, including control of the acceleration, anti-lock brakes and power steering.*may 24 - i was traveling south on nj turnpike to newark airport.i stopped to collect the toll entry ticket when the vehicle stalled.i pushed the vechicle to the 'unprotected' center median, between two lanes of opposing traffic.
While driving, car suddenly shut down completely with no warning.second problem: transmission failed while towing 3300 lbs or less on two separate occasions.
The engine of my 2002 gmc envoy has stalled twice in the last month while i was driving the vehicle, both time jeopardizing my safety. The first stalled happened while i was making a left turn at night. It stalled and stopped while i was in the oncoming lane on a bend where traffic speed in 75 mph. Luckily no oncoming traffic came before i pushed the car off the road.the engine finally started after about 10 ignition attempts. The second stall happened on the freeway while i was drive at 65 mph.the engine just shut down. I steered to the side of the road.the engine started after i let it rest a minute. 've took the car to a gmc shop after each stall.the first dealer told me they couldn't find anything, that it was probably bad gas.the second dealer said they couldn't duplicate the situation so they can't diagnose the problem.
While driving at highway speeds the vehicle stalled out and died. The service engine light and reduce engine speed indicator lights came on before stalling. The manufacturer was contacted. The dealer has not determined the failure.dealer replaced the entire engine.dealership stated gm would not allow them to replace the parts that broke in the cylinder.*jg
Service engine check light keeps coming on and dealer can't seem to fix. Gas milage has dropped. Also, doors rattle and air whistles through windows. Dealer says they can't do anything about it. Intermittent grinding in transmission. Dealer can't fix.
When driving and without any prior warning vehicle suddenly stalled, causing loss of all power.problem has occurred five times since purchase date.consumer has contacted dealer. Consumer states after each filure, vehicle does not shift properly, the engine must reach a high rpm to shift transmission, even after shifting engine, the transmission makes an excessive noise, vehicle acts if though it is pulling heavy load, symptons persist for 40 to 50 miles after failure.
Engine stalls for no apparent reason. I have contacted dealership and they can find nothing wrong. I advised them of a recall regarding the fuel system that may affected the problem.says they replaced the fuel filter. The first time i took it in, they said that it was the ignition switch.also transmission makes a very loud noise when attempting to take off at times.it sounds like an engine fan that will not go off.there is a major lost of power when this problem is occuring.i bought this car as a program car, with @ 11, 000 miles on it already.i've had problems with it from day one. I have only had it a few months.i am extremely irritated with this engine problem.this is extremely unsafe.dt
Without warning vehicle will stall out and die.dealer has been notified. Please provide additional information.i
While driving 75 mph brake light illuminated indicating a malfunction. Vehicle than shut completely down, causing loss of all power. Please provide vehicle indentification number, and any further information.
Engine failure-car stalls out while driving in traffic for no apparent reason.on 1 occasion, after pulling over to side of road vehicle was able to be restarted, other times it was towed to dealership. Have taken back to dealer 3 times where computer system was changed out but problems are still occuring.contacted gm hdq in detroit, sent area zone manager who states nothing wrong with vehicle and refuses to buy back vehicle.i fear for my safety as well as my life when driving this vehicle.have noticed numerous complaints for this same problem, please help to take these dangerous vehicles off the road.
When the car had 4500 miles, the engine stopped running when i was driving at 40 mph -- there were no warning signs or other problems beforehand.the car would not restart immediately - nothing happened when i turned the key --then, after 45 minutes it started but the engine was very noisy and power to accelerate was very poor.the dealer fixed the noisy engine by recalibrating the pcm but they said no fault codes were registered in the car's computer so they can't figure out why the car stalled.i advised them about nhtsa recall campaign # 02v121000 fuel:fuel filter line where the symptoms were very similar to mine.they said there was no gm recall and there was no problem with my fuel filter fitting.the stall occured on 5/14/02 and i have driven 600 miles since then without incident.i called the gmc # listed in the recall notice on 5/24/02 and they said no recalls applied to my car (which was mfg'd in 9/01) and they had no knowledge of the nhtsa recall campaign # 02v121000.i'm concerned that whatever caused my car to stall while driving will reoccur and it is dangerous trying to pull over across traffic lanes to the shoulder without engine power or power steering.
While passing another vehicle we lost engine power, no acceleration power, foot had gas pedal all the way to the floor.we were facing a car head on and a ravine on the left.the car we were passing realized there was a problem and we were able to manuver back into the right lane without being hit.we stopped and waited and then tried to restart and was able to have engine power and gas return.i called the dealership and they first told me it must have fixed itself.i was really afraid this would happen again and requested they take the vehicle and run a computer history to see if it stored the code.they confirmed that the throttle body was defective. Dealer replaced.i reviewed your website and see all of the same complaints about stalls, engine failure, no acceleration.i contacted gm and requested they take my vehicle as trade in on 2003 yukon that had 2500 miles but, was comparable to my 2002 envoy.i would be back in a 5 year note but, i would feel much safer.the gm complaint clerk i was assigned told me there was not anything he could do because my vehicle was repaired and still under warranty.but, he called the dealer and told them he would allow me a $1000.00 cash voucher to use toward the purchase of a new vehicle.i did not ask for a new vehicle, i was willing to trade for the 2003 but this is a slap in the face.they didn't even want to give me the trade in value on my envoy.i would have then been upside down in a vehicle loan.this is the worst service and treatment i have ever received.these vehicles are dangerous..just look at the complaints for the same problem.we were so close to being killed!!do something!i really hope you will do something to help the consumer before someone does die. (this veh was in the dealer in july and i complained then that i was getting 14mpg in town and 18 on the hwy.they tried to sell me an engine flush. I no longer feel safe in this vehicle.
Engine dies with no notice at highway speeds (twice within 500 miles).
The engine shut down with out warning while the consumer was driving at 75 mph.
When starting the truck there is a very noticeable ticking sound coming from the front of the engine. The ticking will continue until the vehicle warms or for a max. Of 3-5 min. Accelerating the engine will not stop the ticking. Inquiries revealed other envoy owners are experiencing the same problem. What is the causing the problem. Reply needed as soon as possible.
While driving t 75mphbrake light illuminated indicating a malfunction. Vehicle then shut completely down, causing loss of all power. Please providevehicle identication number, and any further information.
Consumer states while driving at highway speeds the vehicle shut off and the brakes where not working nothing was working except for the steering, the consumer waited five minutes and then the vehicle started up again. Contacted dealer, the dealer found a loose engine control module.
Vehicle stalled in stop and go traffic. Vehicle at dealership at this time.
Consumer states that while driving the rpms would rev up; vehicle looses power.please provide any further information.*mr
Vehicle has stalled in traffic five times while traveling between 55 and 60 mph.dealership has examined vehicle, and could not reproduce the problem. At highway speeds vehicle will stall.when this happens it causes ignition switch to burn out. Consumer stated airbag light illuminated.aktt
Smell of burning plastic coming from underside of vehicle. Unknown if heat source is exhaust system or brakes.
Exhaust manifold leak.
On june 26,2010, i had a flat tire. I own a 2002 gmc envoy. Luckily i was at home when i noticed i had a flat tire on the passenger side rear. I've changed flats before so i figured ok, i might as well get started. To my horror i discovered the hoist on the underside of the vehicle would not lower the spare tire. I could not believe this was happening. After trying for several hours underneath the vehicle i gave up. So my wife said call roadside assistance to help. I called them and they came to my home to assist. I had the vehicle jacked up and supported so the driver of the towtruck would take a look. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do either. This is now total frustration. After several hours of deliberation, i decided to go on the internet to find a fix for this problem. Luckily, i found a forum of owners who had the same type of vehicle and who had experienced the same problems i had. Their suggestion worked for me, however, the real problem still exists with hoist on the vehicle. In my opinion, this is a very severe problem whick requires a recall. Gm made a huge gaffe with this one.
When the vehicle is on for an extended about of time (more than one hour) the surface of the radio gets extremely hot and has burnt my fingers.i confronted the dealership and they simply said to turn down the interior lighting (which was an insult).by surface i do not mean the buttons, but the surface around the buttons which is easily accessible.numerous times i have reached down to adjust the radio and, while keeping my eyes on the road, touched the surface of the radio next to the buttons.this then made me jump at which time i easily could have lost control of the vehicle.this happens every time i drive the vehicle, this is why the number of failures is 800.
Air conditioner failed.
My air conditioner worked fine for one week and after that it takes times when it will cut off and only blows out hot air.sometimes you can drive for about 30 minutes and it will cut off and other times it takes longer.the fan still blows, but as i say it only throws out hot air.you can stop and cut the engine off and restart the vehicle and sometime it will make it run right again.i have had it at the chevrolet company to be worked on twice and they finally told me the second time after keeping it for a week and a half that they could not fix it because they didn't know how.they told me they were waiting for gm to let them know what to do or send them a computer chip to place in my computer that would make it work,i think this is unsatisfactory because i called gm and they said that they new nothing about the problem. I spoke with cory jacksonat gmc customer assistance center and he is the one who gave me this address to send in a complaint.could you please let me know if there is a problem and if so when do you expect to have it corrected.
I purchased my gmc envoy with 17,000 miles a year and a half ago. Since purchase, my radio has had to be replaced twice because the cd player stops working. Since the last time it was replaced which was about 6 months ago:my cd player has stopped working again. The delaer says that since my vehicle is out of warranty, i will have to buy a new radio. I do not understand this concept because the radio has a year warranty on it. This is ridculous because this will be the third radio and the car only has 45,000 miles. Am i going to have to replace my radio every 15,000 miles? the type of radio that i have is a bose 6 disc in-dash cd radio. Can you please help me? i have had so many problems with my dealership and this vehicle that i will never buy another one. I need some professional advice. Thanks.
Antenna was broken off @ the dealer, towing or storage company where also flat front tire, door ding, bumper ding, shift boot broken, car squeals from the front right (very annoying)
The consumer was not notified by gmc about the recall for the air bag 02 v 222 000 and mechanical over ride 03 v 075 000, although the recallapplied to the vehicle identification number.
When vehicle is at a 1/4 tank or less, and gas is applied, vehicle will not accelerate.the dealership replaced the main computer chip. Please provide more details. Ts
Head lights will all at once go off while driving at night. I've replaced the hdm relay and it worked fine for a few months and then it done it again.
The rear brake lights are out as well as the passenger side fog light.i need to confirm that thisis an electrical problem, i have met 2 additional owners of gmc envoys that are experiencing the same problems.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the passenger's side low beam head lamp failed to function. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the electrical connector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred on numerous occasions and the contact independently replaced the harness connector. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The brake light in the rear window feels out of position and this occurred often on this year, make, and model vehicle. The manufacturer stated that this was not a major issue. The safety risk was evident when the contact failed to pass inspection due to the broken brake light. The current mileage was 95,000 and the failure mileage was 85,000.
Driving at night and headlights on low beam and then they'llshut off.
2002 gmc envoy headlights intermittent fluctuates and/or stop working (low beams only) while driving car at night. Occurs at all headlight settings, at all times of the day/night, almost every time the headlights are used and does not resolve itself upon trying car on/off.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the lower control arm camber on the front and rear tires were worn down on more than one occasion causing the tires to have to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed where it was concluded that the lower control arms needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact stated that the headlights failed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 206,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the passenger side brake light and the drivers side day headlight failed. The contact was made aware that the vehicle was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 07e014000 (exterior lighting). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. 2002 gmc envoy headlights intermittent fluctuates and/or stop working (low beams only) while driving car at night.occurs at all headlight settings, at all times of the day/night, almost every time the headlights are used and does not resolve itself upon trying car on/off.problem started after warranty expired, approximately 2005. Gnc dealership and independent auto mechanics unable to determine source problem due to intermittent of problem.problem continued until 2010 when low beam headlights finally went out completely and no longer worked at all.fix was headlight module.headlight module possibly damaged by voltage fluctuations coming elsewhere in vehicle electrical system.old part is not available.part was replaced at stuart gmc in stuart, florida. The consequence is no headlights while driving at night so unable to drive car at night or worst, the danger of the headlights going out while driving (which happened all the time) and driving without headlights to get to your destination (without paying for a towtruck) can cause an accident or a citation.another consequence is it decreases value of the vehicle and the fact that the vehicle cannot be honestly sold while this dangerous condition exists so i have been stuck with the car and cannot financially buy a new car without selling this car.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle it will randomly jump from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive without warning causing the car to become idle and you must turn the car off completely. She took the vehicle into a local mechanic where he replaced the brakes and checked the wheels and stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. She is also experiencing problems with the front passenger seat belt it locks when fastened. She took the car to the dealer and they informed her that it was no longer covered under warranty and any repairs made would be at the owner's expense. The vehicle is also experiencing exterior light failure, both headlights burned out within weeks apart and they were replaced at owner's expense. The failure mileage was 38,000. The current mileage was 86,000 (sc) updated 06/25/08. The consumer also stated when driving past 70 mph, the vehicle would shake. The windshield wipers were replaced. The consumer stated the motor failed. Updated 06/25/08
Headlight low beams suddenly turned off while driving down the road at night. The first time it happened, they turned back on after a few seconds. The next year it happened, they stayed off until pulling over, turning off the car and restarting it. This problem has been reported by others on the internet, and seems to be restricted to the chevy trailblazer and gmc envoy. The reported fix is to replace the low beam relay.
Taillight bulb holder is failing. Have been through three. When a parts man at kelly chevrolet was asked about this, his response was buy them in bulk????? called gmc customer service. Was told i would have to pay for a diagnosis(file # 1-270417936) i notice alot of envoys on the road with brakelights out. I think it warrants a redesign and recall.
Recall campaign04v525000 concerning brake lamp failure. Consumer unable to get the dealer to honormanufactuerer's recall notice due to no part being available.manufacturer was notified, andinformed the consumer that the parts were on national back order.
Dt: the third brake light burned out,a recall was issued ontail light but not on the thirdbrake light although it seemed to be related. The consumer can not pass inspection without it.
Drivers side brake light continues to loosen or burn out. We have replaced multiple times within the last year and within a month the light does not work again. There was a similar recall, 04v527000, on xl models, but gmc states this did not affect my model. The recall should be opened again and be extended to all envoy, as i see many on the road with the left brake/tail light out.
Consumer was unable to have the repairs on the brake light recall done since the parts have not been made available to the dealers in the consumer's area.
After reading the following article, i check and my rear break light bulb driver side was burned out. Please, move forward with this recall!!i have a 2002 envoy slt that is at 40k miles. Also, my rear driver's side electric window mechanism unexpectedly broke. Some cable inside. The dealer wants to charge $500 to replace the whole assembly. Can you say highway robbery? like mileage has anything to do with window usage.http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/mgbhyys0sxd.html.
The fog lights need to be turned at night to have traffic coming from the sides see you and for you to see what is in the path of your car.the daler says thay are ok but agres he uses his fog lights on his gm car also.
While driving 73 mph with cruise control on headlights will shut off. Consumer was able to restart the vehicle and corrected the problem. Dealership was notified.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving 55 mph, thelow beam headlights malfunctioned and stopped working completely. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact informed the dealer of the failure. The dealer stated that the headlights were included in a recall, but the contact's vin was not included. The failure mileage was 180,000.
The low beam head light on the driver side would go out intermittently while driving at night. The problem was caused by theplug melting and causing the builb to go out.vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer informed consumer that the headlight unit needed to be replaced instead of the plug.
Reference recall 04087 - i have been trying to get my 2002 envoy gmc recall since december. All i get is the parts are back ordered and to call back. Now i get a notice from gmc that i have not had this completed. To date i have called 3 times with no result. Still back order parts.
All these problems come and go, somtimes depending on the outside temperature. Some of it got fixed and came back again. The major problems are that the vehicle shuts down without any warning - no engine no electric nothing-, so its even not possible to call on star! the other thing is that the transmission start to shift gears while driving on a leveled raod at consistant speed. All this items got fixed and come back after a while.dt
Gas tank leak at filler neck tube caused fuel leak. No fire or damage occurred. Repaired required replacement of the entire fuel tank. It is noteworthy, that the replacement tank is reinforced at the filler neck tube.
Gm advertises gas mileage of 16/22 miles per gallon. I am getting 10.5/12.5. I have taken the car back to the dealer to no avail. I have reported this to gm customer service to no avail. What next???.
In february of 2012 i began to notice a very large odor of gasoline coming from the rear of the vehicle. I have owned this car since september of 2009 and this has just become and issue. Looked up vehicle recalls and came across this.summary: on certain sport utility vehicles, a fuel filter fitting can become disconnected. If this were to occur while attempting to start the engine, a no-start condition would result and fuel would be pumped out the fuel filter onto the ground.consequence: if the fitting becomes disconnected while the vehicle is in motion, the engine would stop due to inadequate fuel supply and cause a loss of power steering assist. If an ignition source were present, fuel leakage from a disconnected fuel filter fitting could result in a fire.actions: dealers will replace the fuel filter quick connect retainers. Owner notification began september 20, 2002. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020. Gmc at 1-800-462-8782, or oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537. For detailed information & supporting documents, see the official nhtsa page concerning recall #02v121000 gm said my car was not eligable for repair.
Fuel lines fuel pump corrosion on 2002 gmc envoys.. The vehicle is leaking an enormous amount of fuel while in motion. Gmc has not honored this extended coverage because of a branded title. This is extremely dangerous.
We have a 2002 gmc envoy with approx 77,000 miles, the truck has strong scent of fuel in the garage and out doors. I understand that the fuel pump module corrodes and is common problem on these vehicles. I believe that gm should cover this under recall could have serious fire. I believe it is an engineering defect.
2002 gmc envoy fuel leak, specifically the fuel module.
Envoy has gas smell on interior and engine warning light goes on and off.common problem for all 02-03 models short or lang bed.requesting a recall for a potentially dangerous situation.
Crack in gas tank on gmc envoy that was four months old.
I smelled a strong odor of gasoline while the vehicle was parked outside my residence. Performed a walk around inspection and found no visible signs of fuel leakage.opened the hood and had no visible signs of leakage.envoy is hard to start but once started continues to run with no issues.gasoline fumes are evident in the cab while parked but disperse when moving down the road.upon stopping in traffic, fumes immediately become very strong in the cab. Researching on line similar situations, it appears that there is a problem on top of the gas tank.checked under the envoy and noticed some minor streaking on the tank.i have stopped driving the vehicle until i can get the vehicle repaired.assuming it is the same fuel pump erosion issue, the estimated cost to repair is between $650 and $900. Ma 10/6the consumer stated after removing the gas tank, he attempted to remove the fuel lines from the fuel pump. The metal lines broke off at the top of the fuel pump as he attempted to remove the clips holding the lines on to the fuel pump. The top of the fuel pump and the associated metal line were rusted beyond repair.it appeared the metal lines as part of the fuel pump were spraying fuel on the top of the fuel tank when the pump was running. The design of the top of the tank with the fuel pump provided a bowl on the top of the tank where the fuel pump was located allowing salt water to pool on top of the tank during the winter driving season. The fuel pump was replaced and the tank was re-installed.updated 03/01/16.
2002 gmc envoy - continue to experience fuel smell condition.had vehicle serviced in 2009 for this issue.dealer repaired per recall, never notified of this issue, a fuel filler neck issue that allowed vapors to escape.problem has resurfaced and it is suspect that issue is fuel tank related.issue is difficult to identify without sizable expense. Not sure now is issue is repeat of repaired condition or fuel tank problem.this is a serious issue with warning about fuel vapors and concern about fire and explosions in around gas stations yet this know condition is allowed to exist on these gm vehicles without a safety recall.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled due to the fuel level gauge displaying inaccurate fuel levels. The fuel level gauge displayed that the fuel tank was full when in fact, the tank was empty. The failure recurred three to four times and the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed that the fuel gauge would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was approximately 105,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
It like it not geting any gas when i hit the gas in boggs down let off ots fine pcm im guess.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle had a premature failure of the fuel tank assembly. The top of the gas tank assembly rusted out causing a fuel leak which increased the probability of a fire.updated 9/15/2006 - the consumer saw the fuel leaking from the vehicle at a rate of 1-3 drops per second.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the fuel sending unit hardware was severely rusted and corroded.the entire assembly had to be replaced.
Was driving at 65 mph on highway. Depressed accelerator and vehicle did not accelerate. Went to pull over and noticed there was no power steering or power brakes. Motor had stalled. The vehicle behind me nearly collided with me as i could not maintain speed and i had to swerve amongst traffic to get to break down lane. Tried to re-start in breakdown lane and incident repeated within 100 yds. Vehicle was towed to gmc dealer for service. Dealer had vehicle fail at least 3 times on roadway under same conditions over a period of 4 days. Dealer diagnosed failure of fuel pump module (pump, sensor, filter). Parts are being replaced today. After an internet search, i learned this is a "common issue" with this model vehicle. Should be a recall or preventive maintenance bulletin.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, an odor of fuel was present inside and outside of the vehicle. Also at times, fuel was seen on the pavement underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the fuel pump connection line was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 173,000. Invalid vin.
2002 gmc envoy fuel smell. Took to 2 different gm dealers before problem was found. The 2nd gm dealer found it to be the fuel pump module which was rusted and leaking gas.gm would not stand behind this problem as she was the second owner.the problem is the waymetal fuel pump module sits in the recessed portion middle of the plastic fuel tank invites moisture, rust , salt, corrosion etc.replaced at our expense of $520.00 this is a design problem.
Leaking fuel pump assembly in tank.
We purchased new vehicle october 2001 and within 4 months began experiencing problems beginning with a noise within the steering wheel.dealer technician replaced defective airbag module. The next month, my new envoy has been to the dealer 4 times for the same problem of 1) wind and/or whistling noise at speeds above 45mph, 2) "vibration" noise coming from transmission when vehicle reaches 3rd gear , 3) when vehicle has reached 3rd gear and previous noise begins, there is also a vibration felt in the acceleration pedal.on the first tripto dealer for these problems, technician only agreed with the wind noise.discovered the front side mirrors were the cause.replaced both mirrors---problem still exists, however, he can't hear them.explained it was the nature of the vehicle.he also repaired the weatherstripping which had "fallen off" the right rear door. He advised that he did not hear any noise in the transmission area or in the gas pedal.we took to another dealer who had a technician test drive the vehicle and advised that there was both a noise in the area of transmission and a vibration in the gas pedal.returned to the dealer who originally was doing repair work and had him ride with me.at this time, he heard the noise i was complaining about and advised that it was coming from the heat shield at the catalytic converter.made an appointment for repairs, picked up the vehicle and later the same day, the noise returned.took vehicle back, technician said he didn't hear any more noises. Waited 2 weeks, made another appointment to return vehicle for right rear door "rattling" , and "heat shield" noise which had become non stop.at this time, they replaced the weatherstripping on the doorand again adjusted heat shield by making a "cushion" so that it would not vibrate against the exhaust manifold.this did not resolve the problem, as it still "vibrates"so as i can still feel stress through the gas pedal on the transmission when reaching speed.*
I have a 2002 gmc slt, which is leaking gas.i have had my vehicle towed to my mechanic, which is in process of getting a part from the chevrolet dealer to fix the leak.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that she could smell gasoline in her vehicle; however, when the passenger inspected the vehicle there was no evidence of fuel. She took the vehicle to the dealership and was told that the fuel tank and sensor needed to be replaced as there was corrosion on the fuel tank assembly. There was a technical service bulletin (10026522) but her vehicle was outside the mileage range of 120,000 miles. The dealer would not repair her vehicle free of charge. She called the manufacturer and was told that they could not assist her. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 128,214. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.the contact smelled fuel and noticed gasoline leaking from the fuel tank.the failure caused the fuel tank to corrode and rust.the dealer stated that they will not cover the repair.the contact was advised to call gm, but they also would not cover the repair.the repair would cost $600.the failure mileage was 142,000.
When attempting to fill the fuel tank, gasoline will spill out the top of the tank (not the filler hose) and onto the ground.rather than return up the hose and indicate to the pump that the tank is full, the gasoline goes everywhere.if you just add gas but do not fill the tank, this does not happen.
Gas gauge was 1/4 tank off, returned to dealer to fix problem after running out of gas.dealer replaced float/sender.returned to dealer one hour later after attempting to fill tank with fuel and fuel poured out of top of tank.dealer then claimed the fuel tank was defective and distorted by the factory, ordered new tank, replaced same. All is working now.i
While waiting at a stop light fuel tank lost all it's fuel due to a hose separating from the tank.
A valve in the gas tank came loose causing a leak which activated the check engine light.*mr gas tank was replaced.*la
The check engine light was on.the dealer said that the fuel tank filler neck ruptured causing a leak.the fuel tank had to be replaced.there was no prior repair on the fuel tank or removal of the fuel tank.the owner has contacted the manufacturer to express that the design of fuel tank was bad for the environment. *sc.....
Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the garage, a strong odor of gasoline was present.the vehicle was inspected by the dealer who determined the filler pipe neck, attachedto the storage tank, leaked when the tank was filled with gasoline.the manufacturer was alerted.updated 10/25/2006 -
Vehicle has a crack in the fuel tank, and fuel is leaking at the filler neck where the neck attaches to the fuel tank. Owner contacted the manufacturer, who was not willing to assist the owner.
Dt: the contact stated while driving theengine checklight illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified service dealer for diagnostic testing. Upon inspectionthe mechanicdiscovered a crack in the fuel tank in the filler pipe. Repairs were made to the vehicle at thecontact'sexpense. This repair remedied the problem.updated 1/11/2005.the fuel tank was replaced to correct the problem. The consumer requested a refund from the manufacturer because he feels that the filler neck should not have broken.
Gas tank has crack and fumes leak.
Strong smell of gas before and after starting engine.
I started to smell a "gas like" smell in my garage and when parked outside.i took vehicle to local repair shop and was told that i had to replace the fuel pump because it was all rusted and it was causing a fuel leak.
The fuel pump module on the vehicle began leaking.this leak ultimately lead to gasoline pouring all over the road.one quarter of a tank of fuel spilled from the tank in approximately one quarter mile.there easily could have been a fire. I ended up walking home.
2002 gmc envoy began to emit overwhelming odors.the interior of the car and exterior of the car smells strongly of leaking fuel.the vehicle must be parked in my driveway to prevent vapors from accumulating in my garage and seeping into my home.the leaking odors into the garage and house have caused me to have severe headaches.the captured vapors in my garage presented a severe fire hazard.i took my vehicle to a local mechanic who reported to me that the fuel pump assembly on top of the fuel tank was leaking due to corrosion on several of the tubes that transport fuel.he stated this is avery common problem on the gmc envoys and that he has repaired many of them for the same problem.
I have had a intermittent rumbling sound in the drivers compartment like the doors are not closed properly. I have checked doors closed but yet it still happens. Took back to dealership and they could not find a problem. The fuel gauge is reading incorrectly, at a half a tank of fuel the gas hand will intermittently move up or down. Also nov. 2006 a high pitch squeal from the front of vehicle while driving between 1 and 40 mph.
I started smelling gas several weeks ago. Now i can see some gas on my driveway near where the fueltank is located. I'm afraid of a fire.
Strong gasoline odor. Received a notice in 2016 regarding this. Notice said no action required if there was not gasoline smell. The odor was noticed about a month ago. Called the dealer that sent the notice who told me it expired! they never said the repair would expire, but to ignore it unless i smelled gasoline. So now gasoline fumes are not dangerous??
Gm special coverage program, 14423told repair part not available till may 2016 & is a hazard to drive. Gm's solution to problem so that vehicle can be driven till may is to not fill fuel tank above one half.refused due to vehicle hazard & personal safety. Vehicle remains at gmc dealership.
I am smelling fuel in and around the truck with no visual signs of fuel on the ground.
It began with a gas smell for several weeks with no wet areas or drips. Now their appears to be a leak from the gas tank or filler tube and it has become more severe.
Vehicle loses power drastically when going up any incline.was going 65 and speed dropped to 35 going up slight grade hill.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph when fuel began to spray out of the fuel tank and onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the fuel pump module retainer would need to be replaced. There was a recall associated with the failure under nhtsa campaign id number 02v121000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). The contact's vin was included in the recall however, the contact was advised that the recall was expired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Smell gas in and out side of vehicle. Fuel leaking from the gas tankdue to rusted lines.
Fuel is leaking out the top of tank somewhere. Can't see exactly whee while running. Doesn't run out when vehicle if not running.
I could smell gas and my son a mechanic looked at it and said it is leaking on the two lines that come out the top of the fuel pump.
While in motion only, a engine light accompanied by a reduced engine power engages making the vehicle unmanageable to response and cause the vehicle to stall.
At fuel station, with a quarter tank of fuel in vehicle, the new gas overflowed out of the tank for no apparent reason, running down side of vehicle onto ground. Not able to fill tank.

On february 8, 2010, i put my suv in my garage for the night.when i went to get in it the next morning to go to work, the driver's side window was down.i went to turn the ignition key and nothing worked on that side of the door and the window would not go up.this panel controls everything, seat control, movement and heated seat, all windows, both outside mirrors, and now when i turn the key on the horn blows.when i leave the key in the ignition, the alarm to tell me i did, does not go off.i have to manually lock the drivers door. I had to drive it to a dealership, in a snow storm, 0 degree weather, with the window down, only to find out the master switch on the drivers door had burned up.the service mgr. To who i took it to tried to find the part by calling the gmc dealership and junk yards only to be told that this was happening all over the country and that a part was not available anywhere.most of the doors we were told, were catching on fire and the service mgr. Told me he could smell where it had burned and i was lucky it didn't catch on fire in my garage.i am still waiting on a part to be found or to be manufactured.if this is happening all over the country, why has this not been on recall and how soon can i expect a part and could this still catch on fire.after a lot of work, they finally got my window up, manually so i can still drive it but it is a huge inconvenience.i am on a list at the gmc dealership but have no idea what is going on or when to expect it.thank you.
I just experienced a safety defect that could have had very serious consequences.it involves the failure of the shift cable attachment to the transmission mounted shift lever.you unknowingly loose the ability to place the transmission into the "park" position, with the resulting vehicle movement of an apparently parked vehicle.please contact me asap.-- thanks

The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving approximately 35 mph, the rear passenger side door opened independently. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where a bungee cord was used to secure the door in a closed position. The dealer replaced the latch assembly. The vehicle was previously repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 01v158000 (structure) in 2006. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 232,000.
*nlm
Rear door latches seizeand do not latch the door closed.intermittent problems with all the door latches in this vehicle occurs from time to time.
The has been concerned about the facted that both rear doors have intermittently flew open on different occasions when making a turn, even when the child proof lock was activated. Vehicle was taken to the dealer and both doors were corrected. *la
All 4 doors unlocked without warning.problem occurred most when the temperature was cold.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.the contact was unable to access the rear driver and passenger doors because they failed to unlatch and latch propely.the failure was contributed to the closure latch assembly.the vehicle was previously repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 05v494000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch); however, the remedy did not correct the failure.the failure mileage was 135,000 and current mileage was 150,000.
When new, the vehicle would unexpectedly go into 4-wheel drive in a slight left turn making the vehicle very hard to steer. I took it back to the dealer of purchase and he reported they could not find the problem.after my warranty ran out he reported the following; 611 encoder actuator, 7764 cst, 1 89059275 actuator. He replaced the actuator at a cost of $275.30 for the actuator and $221.90 labor for a total of 497.20 at my cost! here it is several years later and the vehicle is still doing this occasionally dangerous maneuver. I can't let my wife drive my vehicle because of the safety factor of this happening in heavy traffic. I guess i have no choice but live with this?
When i start the truck in the morning it sounds like the engine is revved up with the loud fan noise. I had the fan clutch replaced independently and the loud noise continues and a slight loss of power at times while driving and it feels like it's taking too long shift into the next gear. The noise is really heard when you accelerate on the gas pedal.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact was driving 25 mph when the gears on the differential started grinding and detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic where the mechanic confirmed the front differential failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 131,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy .the contact stated that he attempted to shift into drive but the gear shifter would not move. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the shifter solenoid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,500.
The contact sated that the vehicle failed to shift out of drive into the park position. The parking brake was engaged to secure the vehicle from moving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the shifter linkage bushing. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 196,000.
My wife was driving our 2002 gmc envoy onto alocal expressway when she tried to accelerate, she heard a loud noise from the engine/tranny area, then noticed high rpms and the transmission not shifting, she immediately pulled over. I came to her location and noticed loss of reverse and a "whine" coming from the transmission, the vehicle was towed to the local gmc dealer, that same day it was diagnosed as the sun shell. It appears that this is acommon failure, i will be pursing this further with gm.
Complaint is for 2002 gmc envoy.on three occasions, this truck stalled out while in motion, the last time at 55 mph on an interstate highway.on three occasions, the transmission in this vehicle switched, of its own accord, from 2 wd to 4 wd (low) nearly casusing accidents on two occasions.i listed the most recent occurrences of these problems below.
Transmission does not seem to downshift; loud fan noise with loss of power; hard shift into gear from start; missing rear seat latch to hold down seat and easily wobbles when shaken; hook for latch is present but no latch present seems to be design flaw.
I was driving home from the beach (sandy hook national park, nj) when my service engine soon light came on.i used on star to remote diagnose the code, and was told it was an error in my transmission control module.i immediately called my nearest service center who inspected my truck and informed me that it was my transmission lines that had just simply 'corroded' and that my transmission has almost been running on no fluid.this was shocking considering i maintain good care of my 2002 envoy and had seen no sign of leaking transmission fluid but was informed it was somehow all over the bottom of my truck.they were able to fix the lines for a cost of 690 dollars, but i still feel that something is not quite right with this situation and have talked to others with similar issues.
Transmission sun gear failure on my 2002 gmc envoy at 56,000 k.gm is only picking up 50% of the $1747.00 bill.
After pulling away from a stop light at a normal pace and reaching a speed of almost 50mph there was a loud clunk and a rrrrr sound coming from under the vehicle. The vehicle began to slow as the rpm's went up, all forward drive was gone. We almost got rearended... There was no warning at all that there was a problem or was going to be a problem ,it just broke..dealer says need new transmission.. Apparently gm has a sun gear issue with this type of transmission..
While driving the vehicle, i stepped on the gas and it only increased the rpm and did not provide any acceleration while chaging lanes. It then later kicked in and i got acceleration. When i parked the vehicle to see check things out, i was unable to use reverse to get out of the parking space, reverse no longer worked. After the incident occured, i checked out owner forums online to find that many owners have had similar problems.

My 2002 envoy exhibits the same symptoms as my previous gmc jimmy. It has a hesitation on acceleration that fails to shift from 1-2 properly. This only occurs when the car is cold and only for a mile or two. However , it causes severe loss of power and acceleration capability. Obviously other people have this problem but it does not appear that there is a solution. It always works by the time it gets to the dealer, of course.*nlm
While cruising at highway speed (65 mph) my 2002 gmc envoy suddenly made a loud crunching noise and lost forward motion.the engine revved up, then down, then turned off (while multiple dash warning lights came on simultaneously).i managed to get the vehicle off the road without the help of power steering or brakes, and after a few minutes i started it back up and found i could drive off only at low speed on the shoulder, though there was continued noise from the underside of the car and it was erratically performing.i immediately brought the car to a mechanic who discovered that internal parts in the transmission had failed.the mechanic also informed me that there is a gmc technical service bulletin about this and it is a common/frequent problem.the tsb recommends replacing the internal transmission parts.the mechanic says that replacing the transmission is the only safe thing to do.the local gmc dealer service department says that despite this being a known issue with these transmissions, if you are out of warranty (i am) gmc will not address the issue.catastrophic transmission failure is bad anywhere, but on the interstate can be deadly.if anyone had been following me more closely we would have certainly caused a pile-up.
While towing vehicle in neutral, transmission slipped out of gear and a fire started in transmission area. Contacted dealer who was not willing to do anything.consumer states that the transfer case shift module failed to engage neutral, consumer had brackets and wiring installed to activate the brake and tail lights when being towed, there is a recall, 01v334, regarding transfer case control module problems, however this vin is not included.
I have a 2002 gmc envoy which has a destroyed transmission due to the well known (but unbeknownst to me)failure of the transmission cooling lines. This is a clear design flaw, as the routing is close to the catalyst. Besides the obvious safety concerns of an on the road transmission failure, the location makes a fire likely. The design flaw is documented in tsb pt-4722.i believe these vehicles should be recalled.
I own a 2002 gmc envoy with 70,000 miles on it. Went to drive to the store and the truck would not move. There is a wining/ spinning sound coming from the transmission. Reverse works, but all others do not. I have read quite a few forums on this topic and found this problem happens often. Please let me know want i could do about this.
Was hearing a clunking noise when shifting from park into drive.eventually went to shift into drive and it felt like i ran over something, but nothing was there.then the truck would not shift into second or fourth and lost reverse all together.was told the transmission is blown.
Transmission on cold start stays in first gear. Left rear brake appear to have hung up and is burning.dt
56,779 mile and transmission failed on my 2002 envoy.dealer told me they had never saw this happen.we had just made a 2300 mile trip to the 'no man land' of colorado.the next day my wife came to a stop sign, said the car made a weird noise and would not go.no reverse or drive but crippled it home in low.was very surprised that the gm dealer would not back the transmission.$2,903.94 to replace with a 1 year guarantee which is about up and i refuse to drive on a long trip again in this auto.
Transmission failure at 60,000 miles due to defective parts installed during the original manufacturing process.
I own a 2002 gmc envoy that i purchased new in february 2002.on 24 may 2005, the transmission failed with 68,920 miles on the odometer. There was no reverse or drive.the vehicle operated marginally in gears 3,2,and 1---enough to limp into the dealer.luckily, it didn't fail on the highway...or i might not be here writing this complaint!after tearing down/checking outthe transmission, the technician found a damaged sun reaction shell and sun gear. The parts were replaced, along with new gaskets and seals, the transmission cleaned and power flushed.the total cost of this effort was $2277.:-(:-(in doing a bit of research on this particular failure, i've discovered other gmc envoy, oldsmobile bravada, and trail blazer owners have been victims too.according to one of them, who works in the service department of a gm dealer, the repair instructions state the material used in the sun shell of the 02 blazer, envoy, and olds bravada wasn't able to withstand the heat in the transmission, causing it to strip (which is exactly what happened in my vehicle).he goes on to state. That in vehicles from 2003 on, gm used a "more heat resistant material" in the transmission that reduces the likelihood of the sun gear failure.i'm writing this complaint because i believe the root cause of my transmission failure...and those experienced by other owners... Was due to faulty material...which the manufacturer knew about...yet didn't inform the consumer about.i've never owned a vehicle, gm or otherwise, where the transmission failed at a young 68,000 miles!help please!
Transmission slips gears while driving. Dealer will repair the transmission, but has not informed the consumer exactly what component failed.
Backing up my driveway and heard a "clunk" followed by a high pitched whining noise.following this, i had no reverse and the transmission failed.
Have a 2002 gmc envoy, bought new. 8 recalls, ball joint and speaker failures. At 32000. Miles, the transmission failed. Dealer diagnosed with sun-shell gear problem, that was addressed by a gm repair bulletin. At 37000. Transmission failed again. Dealer advised the entire transmission needed replacement, but it was not related to his oct. 05 repair. Contacted gm customer service, have a file number, but have not heard from anyone in 2 weeks. They advise that the gm area representative has not called anyone back, either the dealer or gm cs.?? asked to contact him myself and was told i could not do that. Asked where i could contact ceo rick wagoner and was told that no one can give out that info. A bunker in colarado maybe?
Transmission does not work properly.have had it repaired twice, but still vibrates, and fails to move vehicle forward at times, from a dead stop.is very dangerous at intersections where moving quickly is imperative.also wiring problems which operate various remote instruments (mirrors, seats, etc.)fear of fire.rear door latch was replaced - clicks "locked/unlocked" while driving.seats move on their own while driving. *nlm
While driving, car suddenly shut down completely with no warning.second problem: transmission failed while towing 3300 lbs or less on two separate occasions.
Dt: contact stated transmission went out at around 29,415 miles. Transmission failed while drivingat 20 mph, and leaving him stranded. Transmission has been repaired. The service dealer replace the sun gear, andstated this was a known problem within the gmc envoy.
Went to back out of neighbor's driveway & there was no reverse gear; just like it was in neutral.after pushing the gmc envoy out of driveway, it would go forward, but was very "strained" to get into gear.i am the owner of his envoy since it was new; it has only highway miles; has always been serviced by the dealer fromwhich it was purchased.
While taking off from a complete stop, the transmission lunged and suddenly i had no drive or third gear. I was able to coast to the side of the road put the truck in park but the gear would not re-engage. The truck was turned off and cranked again, still no difference. However, i did have second and first gear. While driving in second gear at a very low speed the vehicle was transported to dealership. Service personnel advised the transmission was gone and would cost $3400.00 to replace. He stated the gears were broken off inside the transmission and the oil was burnt. He advised the vehicle only has 36,000 miles / 3 years warranty on the power train - transmission, which ever came first. I have less than 74,000 miles on my truck.
On dec. 3, 2003, i took my 2002 envoy into the dealership because i was experiencing serious shifting issues.repeatedly my car would shift while i was driving between 2wd and 4 wd hi.the car would also would make chugging noises.furthermore, the vehicle shifted between gears on its own while i would be making sharp turns such as into a parking space.while in park, if i did not have my foot on the brake petal, the car would jump forward.the car almost jumped through a store front window.the dealer could find nothing wrong with my car.i told them to keep it another day, that there was something seriously wrong with the car.the dealer kept the car another day, and still found nothing.on december 31, 2003, i continued to experience the aforementioned problems.knowing that it was new year's eve and that the odds of there being any competent staff at the dealer was slim, i held onto my car and planned to take it to the dealer after the holiday.on january 3, 2003, i was driving and my car died for no reason.i was not accelerating nor braking.thank goodness the road i was on was not very busy as i would have created an accident.the situation was very dangerous and very frightening.i called roadside assistance to tow my car to the very dealer that could not find anything wrong with hopes that they would find something wrong.roadside assistance, by the way, told me i needed a flatbed truck to tow my truck to prevent damage as did the dealer.roadside assistance showed up without a flatbed - so i made them leave and bring back a truck with a flatbed.two hours later, my car was finally at the dealership.the dealer flat out told me "i don't know if we are going to find anything wrong with your car."apparently cars that stall in the middle of the road is perfectly acceptable for this dealership.the dealer told me he could not get me a rent-a-car for two days.the car is still at the dealership. *la
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 10 mph, the sun shell gear fractured inside the transmission suddenly, causing the transmission to lose reverse, second and fourth gears.the vehicle was able to be driven to the dealership.repairs have been made to the vehicle.
Mirrors 'wander' every time vehicle is unlocked, fail to return to settings creating an unreasonable danger to the occupants of this vehicle as well as other vehicles when changing lanes or merging into traffic due to lack of visability of the area behind the vehicle.transmission failed on a slight incline with parking brake engaged and transfer case locked and in 4wd and transmission in park - vehicle began rolling backwards down the slight grade.there was a recall for this problem - campaign was completed at dealer, but fix is unknown to the owner.
My envoy was put into park when i went to lock the front door.when i got out of the car and took two steps, it slipped out of gear and went rolling down (very slight grade) the driveway in reverse.i jumped in to try and stop it before hitting neighbors cars.i grabbed the steering wheel to pull myself in, which made the envoy turn to miss on car, then it threw me out, almost running over both of my legs with the front wheel.it then proceeded to hit a satellite dish, and air conditioning unit (which all but ripped the door off the hinges.)it then finally stopped after running through a fence and it rested with one wheel in the air on a mound of dirt.
Consumer was unable to shift the gear from park to drive.
Manufacture knew of inferior components within my vehicles transmission and did not issue a recall.existing service bulletin #00-07-30-022c dated dec 10, 2004 (within my warranty period) indicates same issue i experiencedin my vehicle on 10/23/2007.bulletin title states replace reaction sun shell with more robust heat treated parts". This was known while my vehicle was still under warranty.failure happened after standard warranty expired.
Vehicle will not move when put in drive or reverse from park position. After switching from 4wdto2hi etc. It sometimes will engage and move. If in fact the vehicle moves it hesitates when making deep turns. For the most part it is stuck in drive and reverse. Transfer case control module was a diagnosed problem by dealership in 2006. New part bought and installed by dealership.
Drove vehicle as normal without warning and after i stopped (shutdown the vehicle and restarted it) there was no reverse gear or forward gear.vehicle was towed to the dealer where i was later told that the reverse gear had blown apart.damaged parts were replaced and transmission was flushed and refilled. I'm concerned now because the vehicle is out of warranty and it is sluggish or slipping when it makes a 1st to 2nd shift.will it require additional transmission work in the near future and huge $$ to repair?
Transmission cooler line leak from corrosion on 2002 gmc envoy. Had to do splice of corroded section and replaced with copper coupling.
We own a 2002 gmc envoy sle, which was purchased new december 2001 by us. In september 2004 at approximately 65,000 miles the transmission went out.my wife was driving the vehicle at the time.the envoy has a automatic transmission and 2nd gear and reverse went out.my wife was able to pull over and we took it to the gm dealership where we purchased it.they would only pay 50% for the repair to the transmission and we had to pay the other 50%.less than 25,000 the transmission has went out again, having the exact same problem 2nd gear and reverse went out.again, my wife was on her way to work and was able to control the vehicle and safely get it stopped.we took the vehicle back to the gm dealership and they are now willing to replace the transmission, however we have to pay 50% of that amount.my question is why was it not replaced the first time?i paid approximately $576.00 for the first repair and now they want me to pay another $1500.00, which is over $2,000.00.why is another repair now not good enough to fix the problem?why should we have to pay for a defective transmission?i have been doing some research on the internet and have found at least 119 complaints for the exact same problem as we are having, with gm settling with others on a 50/50 basis.i am just thankful that both times my wife was uninjured and i believe strongly that someone really needs to investigate this problem. Any assistance you might be willing to provide us would be most appreciated.
Driving down a 4 lane interstate at 65 with cruise on, the transmission starts to wine and loses acceleration.moved over to slow lane proceeded to get the next 35 miles home in 3rd gear (noise was make in "d").upon arrival home-found out that the envoy no longer has reverse.dealer believes there is a problem with the "sun plate" in the transmission.this envoy only has 48,300 miles.dealer believes this is the problem because he has seen this before and knows there is a problem.why is there not a recall on this part or problem??this should not be happening with any vehicle that has such low miles.
Consumer states the vehicle will slip out of overdrive and into first gear, which results in the vehicle losing power. There is a warning light that will come on which will read reduce engine speed, the dealer replaced the pcm/vcm but this did not correct the problem, front end squeaks when turning and driving, . 2002 gmc envoy slt 60k...went outside to start car and had a loud swishing sound...tried to put in reverse...would not go...had to push out to get to work...extremely high rpms (3500-4500) to get through first...it also is jumping gears...if you try to go over 50 mph the car will redline...was told reverse reaction shell/sun shell gear...they had a bunch of names for it...was defective and failed...we never towed w/ this vehicle, never got stuck (the gm service pro stated that this was possibly the reason for failure)...the vehicle is maybe driven 10k miles a year...we have had nothing but problems w/ this thing...we already have replaced the clutch fan last year...and had numerous little problems since...all the posts i have read clearly shows there needs to be a recall...the prices i have seen on posts is ridiculous to repair the transmission...$2k to $3k...so for now it is sitting in my driveway...i will get the quote this week from my mechanic and am not looking forward to it.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.while making a left hand turn at 5 mph, the vehicle made a whining noise and catapulted forward.the vehicle shifted gears and the speed decreased.the gears returned to normal and the contact was finally able to pull over.the vehicle was towed.the contact stated that the reverse gear failed and the first and second gears were barely functioning.the dealer stated that the sunshell in the transmission needed to be replaced in the transfer case.the previous damages led to the entire transmission needing to be replaced.the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id numbers 03v075000, 01v283000, and 01v334000.the purchase date was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 63,000.
Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 25 mph, the vehicle lunged, a whirring noise occurred, and the vehicle would not accelerate.it was driven home with high rpm's and low acceleration.at the contact's residence, it was noticed that reverse did not operate.the vehicle was driven to the dealership, but would not operate above first or second gear.the dealership determined the sun shell inside the transmission failed and the transmission needed to be rebuilt.
I own a 2002 gmc envoy with 49,000 miles. The transmission failed, did not want to shift from first, then no reverse when i left the destination. Had towed to dealer. Service manager stated she had a hunch what it was but had to get it in the shop first. Sure enough, the sun shell failed and the transmission has to be replaced. Called gm customer service in an attempt to get them to fix it at there expense since this is an regular occurrence with there trucks. Have not heard back as of yet. Seen many many many posts around the internet about this very problem. This should be looked into.
Consumer states while comiing down a hill pcm shorted out.as a result, driver lost all electrical functions. Steering wheel got really stiff.brake pedal became hard to press.
While driving at 65 mph engine shuts off; would not restart first try. Would start a little later.went to dealer, reprogrammed pcm with latest calibration update.second time happened at 70 mph.
Continued electrical problems with 2002 gmc envoy.such as on-star telephone along with radio/cd player, all four doors failing to lock or open including the back hatch. Service air bag light and engine check lights coming on.reprogram engine/transmission module, also telephone antenna replaced, short in wiring locateddue to rubbing/pinching during construction, replaced wiring harness.hundreds of dollars required to identify short in wiring.transmissionoperates sluggish until warmed-up vehicle feels as if the brakes are on until it has moved several blocks.
When applying brake to release vehicle gear out of park, the gear shift does not release. Stuck in park! have to tap the brakes many times to get a release of the gear shift. Sometimes it works first time other times takes many attempts. Told at dealer that it is the sellenoid. Have ordered part from dealer twice and still no part. Dealer at first denied being able to reproduce. Then, finally admitted other vehicles had same issue.

Vehicle is squealing onfront passenger side. Also, tranfer case is defective.
My vehicle rolled backwards down a hill and crashed into a waterfountain and a tree in my front yard.backing out of my garage i stopped quickly after just exiting my garage on a slope of about 6% grade.i had spilled coffee,i put the vehicle into park and stepped out when the car abruptly rolled backward.both of my children were strapped in their seats and i tried to leap back across the drivers seat with my legs hanging out the door.we traveled 50 feet before hitting the waterfountain and tree.the rushing water from the fountain sounded like fule ready to explode.i was taken to the hospital with an injury to my right leg.i informed gmc the following day, feb 1st.on feb 7th i received a response to my complaint from roger lewis, customer relationship managert informing me that "his investigation" revealed no evidence of a product defect.i became aware that my vehicle had been recalled for this very problem and that another recall, not including my vehicle vin, but those made two months later have been recalled for a similar problem. I called gmc informing them and they were unwilling to examine the case further.i am concerned that gmc is ignoring a likely unfixed transmission problem which is potentially dangerous.
Collapse of the right front lower axe. And the dislocation of the right wheel.
I was driving along interstate 75 at night with my 3 year old, 16 year old, and 18 year old nephew returning to college after winter break on jan. 2,003. We were left stranded on the side of the highway, after we almost wrecked. The gears were jumping back and forth from 2 wheel to wheel drive. I took to a local gm dealer and they told me that it would costs me 2500 to repair-the problem the front differential. I contacted the 1800 gm service line and they said that they would not be assisting with repairs due to mileage. I asked around at different auto repair and transmission shops and they said that gm knows they have a problem with the differential in envoys, trailblazers, and isuzus. Even if the problem gets fixed, im told there is no guarantee that the problem will not happen again until gm addresses the actual problem with the differentials. I believe my gear problem caused the differential to fail. Meanwhile i am stuck with a car that i have to pay for another year and a half on. It is really an inconvenience to me. I cannot afford the repair, the car sits in the driveway. Im behind on my car payment, having to rent a car to drive to work. Gm should be held accountable. Other problems include the clutch fan going out, costing me over $500 to repair on my own. Gm refused to help. This went out at 33,000, shortly after purchase. I am really burdened right now and don't know what to do.
*sc
We purchased a $33,000 new vehicle in october. We immediately noticed the passenger front seat seatbelt locks then starts to tightening and never unlocks. I brought the issue to the service department, the new car sales manager, and gmcs attention. Dean cloud in bentleys service department told me that the seatbelt is designed to lock so a childs safety seat can be put in the front seat. I showed him that the visors in the car and the users manual say never put a car seat in the front with the air bags. He said that the passenger must unhook the seat belt every few minutes then reconnect it. I find this unacceptable. The dealership is putting the passengers in the vehicle in an unsafe and illegal situation by telling them the only solution is to disconnect the seatbelt while the vehicle is in motion. The seatbelt in its current condition is choking the passengers, which is also unsafe.the seatbelt needs to be repaired or replaced.the differential unit had to be replaced. The bearings did not have enough tourqe (that is wht the dealer told me).
Consumer states when starting vehicle, vehicle shifts to 4 wheel drive. Cause is unknown.please provide any further information.
My vehicle is a 2002 gmc envoy. I have had 3 incidents with the 4 wheel drive system in this vehicle since december 2003. The newest feature with these vehicles, as with the cheverolet trailblazers is the automatic 4 wheel drive system. This system allows the driver to put this lever in and the vehicle will be in 2 wheel drive and will switch to 4 wheel drive when road conditions are a necessity for 4 wheel drive. My vehicle's 4 wheel drive system broke in december 2003. It was reported to me from alaska sales and service who repaired the vehicle that the front differential had to be replaced due to the 4 wheel drive system. Then there was a leak of some fluid under the vehicle noticed april through may 2004. The vehicle was in the shop at alaska sales/service again and a transfer case was replaced in the vehicle. Come winter in 2004, my 4 wheel drive needed to be used again due to weather in alaska. My vehicle was in for a major checkup on dec 14th, 2004 and i was told the 4 wheel drive system was in good shape. I had the vehicleback in the shop within 2 weeks fora loud noise in the 4 wheel system. Again the vehicle was in the shop and another transfer case was replaced. My major complaint to the federal consumer complaint system is that this vehicle is a 2002, and this vehicle has been in the shop for the same problem more than 3 times under the 3 year new car warranty. I feel that the general motors corporation should buy this vehicle back or purchase a new vehicle for me due to the problems i have had to endure. I am in the process of finding a lawyer in alaska that will support the automobile lemon law.
Transfer case: while driving at highway speed of about 65 mph with the transfer case swtich set to a4wd the trransfer switch without any input or operator control switched to 4hi (both the switch position and indicator light) and the 4lo indicator light was flashing amber indicating the transfer case was attempting to swtich into 4lo. This has occurred aproximately 6 times previously at various speeds, while driving striaght or conducting turning maneuvers; but only when the engine is warm. The latest incident on 12/28/2003 (prompting this complaint) occurred after the dealership completed the remedy specified by service bulletin 02-04-21-002a on 12/26/2003.
Failure of engine cooling system and four wheel drive system.
While driving my vehicle and the 4 wheel drive switch is in the off position, my vehicle will engage into 4 high and the 4 low light flashes like it's trying to go into 4 low.it will keep switching back & forth from 4hi to a4wd and then go off.this has happened a couple times now.another time i was turning into a parking space and then my steering wheel became very hard to turn, my car was in 4hi with the 4 low light flashing but the switch was off.
I have a 2002 gmc envoy slevin #[xxx] purchased and serviced by malouf in north brunswick, nj.i have complained on two occasions that the 4 wheel drive light switch jumps from 2-high to 4-wd and continues to blink. While this is happening there is a faint scraping sound from under the vehicle and than the vehicle slows down to a gradual complete stop. It feels like the brakes are being applied. There also a faint odor of burning brakes. This 1st happened around august 1 2005 and than again in oct 2005 two times the 1st time the dealership re- programmed the computer and up dated it, its was ok for a little while. Than it happened again in oct. They told me there was nothing they could see and that everything was working the way it should be. There is something very wrong with this vehicle and im afraid this is going to happen at higher speeds. Please get back to me as soon as possible. The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.the air bag light is constantly illuminated and only dims when the vehicle is turned off.while driving 55 mph, the contact attempted to use the 4 wheel drive, but it would not work.the indicator light remains illuminated; however, none of the 4 wheel drive levels work.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id numbers 01v283000 (power train:transfer case (4-wheel drive)) and 02v222000 (air bags).the current mileage was 127,000 and failure mileage was 95,000.updated 01-14-08.the consumer stated the 4-wheel light only illuminated when the vehicle was started.updated 12/12/07.
Our 02 gmc envoy randomly shifts the transfer case into neutral while driving causing a no power situation in traffic.this has put my wife and child in danger on more than one occassion.
Transfer case( 4-wheel drive) wasn't engaging. Vehicle was inspected by a dealership, whoindicated that the transfer case shift control module wasdefective, and neededto be replaced. They also indicated that the part had to be ordered.a week later when the consumer contacted the dealership to inquire about when the part will arrive they were informed not until marchdue to the part being being re designed.the part # was 12590220.
While driving 40 mph vehiclejolted andslipped into another gear without consumer shifting gears. Vehicle was serviced, technician determined thattransfer case module needed to be replaced.
Gmc envoy 2002 sle xl purchased in the month of june and started having problems in oct.the vehicle would shift in and out of 2wd and 4wd on it's own and on occasion it would lock the wheels also.problem mostly occured when making turns.stated problem to dealer (10/18/02) - dealer replaced 4wd selector switch (reason: internally shorted).had problem again in month of feb. '03. Brought vehicle back to the same dealer and explained problem again (02/21/03).dealer replaced 4wd selector switch again. Reason why i'm filing this complaint is because i feel this vehicle is not safe. I also realized that i'm not the only one experiencing these same problems. My hope is that gmc will take notice and correct this problem quickly.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the 4-wheel drive indicator light illuminated, and the vehicle stopped as if the brake was applied when the accelerator pedal was released.also, a smell was coming from the brakes and the vehicle accelerated without warning.the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined the transfer case control module needed to be replaced.
While driving at a low speed and turning to the left, the fourwheel driveengaged. The dealership replaced the selector switch twice for the four wheel drive.

The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While driving at 10 mph, the passenger side seat belt seized. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy.he stated that the passenger side seat belts would not retract.the dealer stated that a defective retractor could have caused the failure however; they did not inspect the vehicle.there is a recall for the seat belts (nhtsa campaign id #04v201000) however; the dealer stated that his vin was not included.as of june 24, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 80,000.
While driving 55 mph driver applied the brakesto slow down the speedand consumer lost control, causing the vehicle to hit a guard railand roll over three times.vehicle landed upside down.upon impact, the airbag did not deploy, and seat beltdid not holdthe passenger.
All of the eight (8) air bag equipped in the vehicle failed to deploy during frontal impact, althought properly restrained the consumer still sustained serious internal injuries, including a lacerated liver.(attorney on behalf of client0nlm
Passengers side front and rear restraints lock inadvertently, dealer has repaired restraints twice.manufacturer has been notified.the dealer added 6 inch extensions to the front and rear belts, since then the front belt has locked up twice for no reason.
Front passenger seat belt tensioner failed. It has already been replaced before. Consumer was informed that there was no guarantee that dealer would correct the problem.*jg
When a car seat is put in the back center seat as recommended it is impossible to latch the shoulder belt in the right back seat (facing forward) to the belt anchor. The passenger in the right back seat must either not have the seat belt attached or use a 6 inch belt extension that is unsafe for non overwait toddlers. Gmc told me that this is a design flaw and there is nothing that they can do about it.all i want is to be able to have a passenger ride safely in the back right passenger seat while my daughter is in a car seat in the back center seat.
We purchased a $33,000 new vehicle in october. We immediately noticed the passenger front seat seatbelt locks then starts to tightening and never unlocks. I brought the issue to the service department, the new car sales manager, and gmcs attention. Problems with vehicle's seatbelts.*mr seatbelt tightens when moving making it uncomfortable.
The left rear seat belt tightenedon the child, it would not release, itkeptsqueezing her.finally, after not being able to release the child, the seat belt was cut off.the child sustained bruises.
The rear passenger side seatbelt was extremely hard to fasten.the female end would only stick halfway out of the casing. Passenger was not properly restrained. Dealer had been contacted.please provide any further information. Ts
Rear seat bracket sticking out between both seats.
*nlm
Rear seat bracket sticking out between both seats.
The drivers side rear seat bottom cushion has 2 latch hooks protruding from the floor and openings for 2 latches but only 1 latch is installed. Told by dealer that all envoys are that way. Seat wobbles and tider-todders when 1 passenger sits in the middle position and another in the driver's rear.
The steering is a little sporadic at speeds 70 or higher or chachi.there is a lot of play in the steering mechanism you have to hold it with both hands to try to get some type of correction in the in the stability of the vehicle. I can't upload photographs or something i i don't know anything about.
Passenger's side power seat is tilted in a downward position.cannot tilt upward due to electrical malfunction.motor can be heard, but nothing is happening.
There are two latches atbottom of driver's seatfor security. There is a hook for two latches, but there is one there . Dealership iis aware ofproblem.
Transmission does not seem to downshift; loud fan noise with loss of power; hard shift into gear from start; missing rear seat latch to hold down seat and easily wobbles when shaken; hook for latch is present but no latch present seems to be design flaw.
Appears that vehicle manufacturer has opted to not install all rear seat bottom latches on the rear passenger seating. This is being reported by several vehicle owners of the 2002 chevy trailblazer/gmc envoy line.in the event of a collision, having only one latch on the larger split seat may cause the the seat to be jarred loose which in turn could potentially result in passenger injury. I would like to know how many other owners have reported this, and if there's plans by gm to correct this situation.
Driving at night and headlights on low beam and then they'llshut off.

When having my 02' envoy serviced and state inspection by my gmc dealer the service manager called and told me, i would need to r/r my front rotors. My vehicle has 41225 mi and has always been serviced by gm. I have owned gm vehicles for 38 yrs and the cars with rotors never looked like this. This looks like a manufacturing imperfection. From reviewing the odi list for this vehicle, others have also documented similar complaints. If i did not bring the vehicle in for the state inspection i would never have know this defect existed. This gave me neither warning in braking, stability nor squealing/ticking from early warning system. I should had asked for old rotors or taken a picture. Front rotors and pads replaced at my expense.

I noticed the brakes pulsing badly on my 2002 gmc envoy at 27,000 miles. The dealership stated that brakes are covered up to 21,000 miles and rotors covered to 24,000. All 4 rotors and brake pads had to be replaced at my expense. I guess that i shouldn't have assumed that a warranty of 3 years or 36,000 miles meant that everything was covered. How convenient it is for the warranty coverage on brakes and rotors expires prior to the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. That tells me that gm knows when the cheaper parts they are using are going to fail. The 3 year 36,000 warranty is very misleading. In my 27 years of driving, i've never seen rotor and brake pad failure at 27,000 miles. Good brake parts are vital in the safety of a vehicle, i don't understand how they are allowed to use inferior materials. Thank god my pregnant wife didn't have and accident while driving this vehicle.

I have a 2002 gmc envoy slt with 22700 miles. Recently, i noticed deep scoring in the rear brake rotors. I thought that the brake pads were severely worn, so i took my vehicle to the dealer where i purchased it. Usually, i keep very close watch on the rotors, front and rear because it can become a costly job if they are scored. When the service manager informed me that the pads were ok and that they were only half worn, sent up red flags to me. He also said the front rotors were out of round. He said it could be due to wear and tear. I am 53 years old and i have never heard of the rotors being so deeply scored without the pads being worn down.

I filed a complaint on october 19.nr: 10140380. I reported 2 rollover cases with 2 similar cars within 3 month in my family. I found out now that both cars had steering recalls which we have not been aware of. Does that mean anything to anybody or does the severe injuries of my wife and daughter mean nothing since they are not dead? i called your agency and was told that i have to wait. 2002 chevrolet trail blazer on july 18 at about 9:00 am my daughter entered route 3 going east coming from route 601.about 3 miles down the road at a speed of about 45 mphshe believed that aanimal was running across the street were she tried to avoid a hit.she then reported that the car became unstable and was not controllable at all.she also reported that the car would not brake and she could do nothing she said the car drove like on "ice".the car rolled over and landed in the right side of the road in a ditch.we thought ok an accident.insurance took care of it.yesterday october 19 at the nearly same place.2 miles down on route 3 going east with an 2002 gmc envoy my wife was drivingbehind a slow moving car and she wanted to pass when she saw a car in the left lane coming fast and she decided to stay in her lane.by doing so the car became unstable she couldn't steer or brake and as she recalled it, the car went to the right rolled over 4 times the roof was pushed in towards the driver seat that when she was taller she would be dead by now. Her luck was that she is a short korean women.since i don't believe in coincidence 2 similar cars within 3 month with the same or identical problem i hope somebody will look into that. I will contact gm about this.by the way the airbags in both cases didn't happen.i have pictures from the street and found strange marks going towards the dodge and a mechanical mark on the road going from the street into the ditch.there are no brake marks at all.inside the car is a black beam with about 18 or 20 bolts which i believe is the towing bar from the front of the car.the bolts are all totally ok but there is no marking at the threads at all.not one nut to see. I took pictures of the strange tire marks and stretches on the road the ditch and the car.icalled the insurance and asked them for an investigation.the car will not be touched or brought away at that time.
Manufacturer/dealershipare not giving a date as to when a repair solution will be availablefor voluntary recall regarding loss of control/steering.recall number is 01v126, consumer still has not had recall repairs, dealer will not set a date and said repairs could happen in 2 days or 2 years, consumer was told he would have to pay.
I was in motion on a highway and the right front lower control arm seperated from the steering! it left me unable to steer or contral the vehicle. As per pictures i looked this up online after the almost lost my life breakdown , and found there has been known problem of this. And there is no recall? not cool.
Consumer states while comiing down a hill pcm shorted out.as a result, driver lost all electrical functions. Steering wheel got really stiff.brake pedal became hard to press.
While at stop light with brakes applied, vehicle suddenly surged forward. Consumer was unable to stop vehicle, when applying brakes steering wheel locked. It stopped on its own, once it was off the road and on grass. Vehicle was towed to dealer. *yd
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, a tire was on the road and the contact swerved to the left to avoid the object however, the power steering assist failed and the brakes failed to respond. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle and flipped approximately ten times and crashed into a guard rail. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was taken to a hospital where there were injuries reported. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.updated 09/05/14*ljthe consumer stated the ignition switch may be the cause of the failure. Updated 12/16/2014
On this model of trailblazers and envoys there is a serious issue with the power steering line cracking on the back side if the steering shaft, causing fluid to spray out and immediate loss of power steering. When this line broke my wife was driving at highway speeds with my 4 kids in the vehicle, and she was barely able to maneuver the vehicle out of traffic to a safe spot, almost causing an accident. I have spoken with many other owners of these suv's and found this to be a very common problem.
Failure of power steering rack - no prior symptoms, major leak occurred w/o warning;required replacing power steering rack and hoses - total repair cost - $1464.98.
Whileconsumer's wife was drivingsteering rod came off fromsteering wheel, causing wheel to not steer. Wheel was just flopping around. Also, consumerhad a brand new motor put into vehicle, and was told that while repair was done steering was not touched at all.
Recall 01v126000; while driving 60-65 mphconsumer lost control of vehicle, hitconcrete median, and vehicle bounced offmedian and hitright guardrail.also, vehicle caught on fire, fire department put out fire. Vehicle was totalled. Front lower control arm was broken, consumer has parts for inspection, part of break was clean, the other part rusted through. Consumer called gmc about recall on this part, was toldthis vehicle was not affected. Due to vin.
The power steering unit went out on my gmc envoy. Yes, my car is out of warranty, but do not feel this should of occurred. In discussing with service mgr. Of selling dealer he advised they have had similar failures.
Mirrors problem - the outside mirrors emit a disturbing whistling noise when exceeding 45 mph. It appears that the seems of the outside casing are causing the noise. Dealer says gm has no solution to problem. Steering problem - a grunt/crunch noise emits from the passenger front wheelwell when taking sharp left turns. No problems with right turns. Dealer has been notified.
Outer tie rod ends so badly worn out that the vehicle could not travel in a straight line.also had to replace tires.
Power steering rack failed at highway speeds, making it difficult to steervehicle. Dealer has inspectedvehicle and determined thatsteering rack would need to be replaced.there was a loud noise due to no fluid in the power steering reservoir.rear differential leaks.driver side front and rear doors rattle and flew over large bumps.interior courtesy lights do not come on when passenger side door is open.
Spare tire hoist secondary latch frozen, 2002 gmc envoy. Spare tire could not be removed from hoist when a road hazard blowout occurred.tow truck operator could not remove spare.after a tow to tire vendor, they could not get the spare down.upon visiting a dealership they could not remove the spare tire and said the mechanism was 'frozen' and had to be replaced for $250, but they didn't have the part in stock. After a trip to another dealership, they cut the hoist cable, removed the spare and replaced the hoist part.one can only imagine the trauma if the family had been on us highway 50 in the middle of nowhere when this incident occurred.this must be a prima-facie violation of the fmvss code that requires a spare tire. Yes, the spare tire is present, but it can't be installed on the vehicle.one would hope that automotive engineers know that the underside of a vehicle is subject to corrosion and design accordingly.researching this issue, many enthusiast forums and other blogs reflect the frustrations of owners with the same situation.the common grassroots solution is to cut/grind off the secondary latch. Thus defeating the safety system intent. One can only hope they are not behind a moving vehicle with such a modification when the spare tire drops.gmc customer service, while polite, informed that they could not reimburse the cost of the hoist replacement because there was not a service bulletin covering the problem.yes, the vehicle is long out of warranty, but this is a serious customer safety issue.from the forums and blogs, it is obvious that this is a pervasive problem, and the 'fix' might be more dangerous than the initial issue.
*sc
While driving at 30mph headwind and topping out a large hill, front end lifts and swerves due to a large air pocket formed by the front of the hood, the top of the radiator and grill 'fins' or 'bars', the pocket is five inches deep, 4 inches high and 4 feet wide.driver filled the pocket with nylon foam cut to fit and glued into place.the pocket caused the vehicle to lose traction for the front (steering) wheels and pushed the front end by wind gusts to an excessive and dangerous amount.
The front driver side door has no power.the rear passenger door will not open or unlock.the rear driver side door will not latch and stay shut. This all happened when i was getting my kids in the car and now i can't use the car because my kids could fall out. In the other vehicles it was the faulty latch. This happened to other vehicles of the same year and model.number 05v494000.
The consumer had received recall on console arm rest latch, it was fixed but failed again. Recall 01v158.

There is a large hole in the passenger side front frame. Rusted right through and is unsafe

Memory mirrors do not return to the correct settings.consumer was orginally told there was no problem; however, two dealerships had duplicated the problem and could not fix it.had it in a total of 8 times, and several parts of vehiclehave been replaced, includingmirrors/ mirror actuators/ liftgate control module , anddriver's side door control module. I purchase a 2002 gmc envoy 06/05 ,and about 1 month ago i heard a loud noise when i went to open my tail hatch after noticing my passenger side brake light was out. I talk to the dealer about this and was told by the body shop manager that the flap over the hatch was suppose to look like that there is a very noticeable gap,he then said that it probably had been fixed before. And during a later conversation with him he said that it was natural wear and tear. I am the owner and only driver of my truck, and i probably wouldn't have open the back hatch if i hadn't notice the brake light out which i found out is under a recall. My conversations with the dealer and also gmc have lead to no where. I took the truck to an outside repair shop who look at the hatch and also said that it had been repair before and to try to work with gmc and the dealer with getting it fixed.

In regard to my prior complaint i notice that my hinges holding my tailgate on were rusted about a month after i purchase my truck, and took it the dealer service shop. I was told that the hinges were not covered under the certified warranty, although according to the certified car and truck warranty it should have been notice during the bumper to bumper inspection before selling the truck.i can't remember the exact day i took it in i believe it was near the end of the month.
Dt*: the contact stated the electronic mirrors re-adjust without warning. The mirrors should maintain the last setting, but require re-adjustment every time the vehicle is driven. Occasionally the mirrors re-adjust while driving making it difficult to change lanes. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer twice for repairs. The dealer replaced the mirrors and made adjustments to the electrical unit. The problem was only alleviated temporarily by the repairs and the mirrors began malfunctioning again a year ago. ... The mirrors will self adjust the settings. While driving the contact looked in the mirrors to change lanes and they were out of adjustment. Had to constantly adjust the mirrors prior to changinglanes. Also, when shutting the vehicle off, and restarted it, had to adjust the mirrors. The mirrors will not hold the set adjustment.in addition, the tailgate could only be opened with the remote, there was no other way to open the tailgate. In a situation where the contact's only exit from the vehicle was from the inside, could not open manually from the inside.

Rear suspension from factory is a airbag system. I found the rear of my car one day dropped to the floor. I drove it to the dealer and found myself not being able to go the speed limit cause driving the vehicle dropped was causing a lot of bouncing around. I was told by the dealer this is not a recall so i would have to pay out of pocket. This is a engineering problem not a service call.
I was driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph pulling a 3000 lb. Boat and trailer.i felt something change in the front end as though the alignment changed as i was driving.i exited the highway, and after applying the brakes a very loud pop came from the left front wheel well.upon investigation i found that the upper ball joint had completely separtated from the upper control arm.this apparently occurred after the bolt that secures the ball joint in the upper control arm either sheared, fell out, or was never there before the incident.there was little to no damage, and the vehicle is currently at the dealer awaiting parts.more specifically, i was told that they are replacing the upper control arm and upper ball joint.

I am the original owner of a 2002 gmc envoy.i live in new jersey and i recently came out of my house and found i had a flat front tire. This is the first time since we purchased our envoy that we attempted to change a flat tire on the envoy ourselves.i wanted to switch the flat with my full size spare.when my husband tried to remove the spare the hoist that holds the spare tire would not budge.he eventually jacked up the vehicle and removed the flat tire and took it to be repaired.later that day i brought my envoy to a tire store to replace all my tires.the service attendant told me he could not lower the hoist to remove the spare either and suggested i take it to my gmc dealer. I brought my envoy back to the dealer i purchased it from and they also could not lower the hoist. I spoke to the service manager and he told me it was a 'design flaw on the part of gmc.he also told me that the same thing happened to his gmc vehicle only in his case the hoist and spare fell out off his while he was driving it and he did not even realize it until he looked underneath one day and it was gone.he then told me it would cost me $285 to replace mine.i called gmc customer service and was told that because my car had 89,000 miles and it was out of its warranty that they would not reimburse me for the repair. Gmc said it was 'normal ware and tare' and was caused by bad weather and road salt.why on earth would gmc design a spare tire hoist that could not withstand the elements for the life of the vehicle? there is nothing written in the owner's manual about how to care and maintain for the spare tire hoist on the 2002 envoy.i was lucky the flat occurred in front of my house and not on a highway in the middle of nowhere.
Tires on front of vehicle had steel belts coming out. Also, there was a recall on vehicle which dealer did not tell consumer. Recall was to inspect and replace front lower control arm brackets. Contacted dealer about tires and dealer urged consumer to bring vehicle in. After dealer looked at tires, would not let consumer drive vehicle.dealer stated it was unsafe.the consumer reported that the front tires were worn excessivly. The dealer replaced both front tires. Michelin size 17, dot number rm3ktd2cx.
*sc
Spare tire hoist jammed could not lower tire to change flat had to wait in 20 degree weatherfor a tow.
My front tire had a leak and was down to the rim.i was on a level service and an ideal spot for one to change a tire.i read the service instructions several times and followed them exactly, but could not get the spare tire off of the suv.the secondary lock would not come off.i ended up calling aaa to come out and try and help.the technician said that he had seen this on other envoys/trailblazers, but not to this extent.he worked on it for about 30 minutes with no luck.finally, he had to fill it up with air and i had to drive to the next gas station to fill it up more.i had to keep doing that until i found a place that could jack up my car and fix the tire on the spot (without using the spare).i still cannot get the spare off of my truck.i am very upset with this.
The vehicle had a flat tire.when trying to lower the spare according to the instructions the spare would not drop down.the car needed to be brought to a chevrolet dealership, who charged $350 to replace the spare tire mechanism because it was broke due to road water, dirt, salt deteriorating it over time.
Have issues with 4wd.vehicle does not want to engage in 4wd hi or low.tried in park & neutral while parked and also while driving at a low speed.
I closed the rear glass window hatch and the glass exploded.the shattered glass caused cuts and abrasions on my exposed skin.my suv was parked in my driveway at the time.the security cameras at my home taped the incident as it occurred.
While driving the car on the highway it suddenly started to smoke. We had pulled over to see what was going on and once we got out of the car to see the car was already on fire under the hood by the passengers side. The flames were already coming out of under the car by the front passengers side tire. Once we saw the fire we ran away from the car, but we have no idea why the fire started in the first place since we had driven it hours before and farther then where we were when the fire had occurred.
My rear lift gate does not lock with or without the key fob nor with the power door lock button. There is no manual way to lock my doors it seems to be a poor design and a safety factor. My wife is afraid to drive because anyone can open the lift gate and rob her or even myself.
While driving vehicle suddenly accelerated uncontrollably.consumer was not able to maintain control of the vehicle, and it hit a guard rail, flippedover six times, and landed upright.upon impact, both frontal airbag did not deploy. Driver sustained neck and back injuries and was transported to the hospital. Vehicle was totaled out by the insurance company.
While at stop light with brakes applied, vehicle suddenly surged forward. Consumer was unable to stop vehicle, when applying brakes steering wheel locked. It stopped on its own, once it was off the road and on grass. Vehicle was towed to dealer. *yd
Vehicle loses power drastically when going up any incline.was going 65 and speed dropped to 35 going up slight grade hill.
While in motion only, a engine light accompanied by a reduced engine power engages making the vehicle unmanageable to response and cause the vehicle to stall.
2002 gmc envoy -driver was sitting at traffic signal with left turn signal on . When light turned green driver proceeded through intersection to make turn when accelerator throttle. Driver could not stop or control vehicle causing it to hit concrete bridge pillar head on.
While driving 73 mph with cruise control on headlights will shut off. Consumer was able to restart the vehicle and corrected the problem. Dealership was notified.
The cruise control was set to 55 mph vehicle lurched forward and then rolled over.the consumer sustained minor injuries.the vehicle was towed.the dealership will be notified.*sc
Vehicle was brought in for several problems. Side view mirror problem [not staying set] was resolved until today when side view mirror again malfunctioned within one week of being repaired by dealer.
I have a 2002 gmc envoy. The sideview mirrors are do not stay in position and move every time the vehicle is started. This is extremely dangerous and i have tried everything to get it fixed. The dealer actually tried to tell me he never heard of the problem. I see that many others have the same aggravating problem. When is gmc going to own up and fix this?
When using the wipers, they will wipe ok for a couple of swipes and then get stuck and shimmy down the windshield.sometimes they just stick in place.it doesn't matter what speed we go or if we are stopped.
The contact owns a 2002 gmc envoy. While the vehicle was parked, the rear hatch window shattered. The contact stated that the window fractured from the inside out. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was concerned that the manufacturer failed to offer assistance in replacing the rear hatch window. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
I recently purchased my envoy and the wipers worked most of the way home, the passenger side stopped working . Then the driver side would not go down when shut off. Now when i turn them on they hop up and go right back down and do not work.
Dampers located inside heater control system are very annoying. Driver can constantly hear shutter opening and closing as vehicle accelerates.
I own a 2002 gmc envoy slt.my problem is with the rear glass in the liftgate.in the eight months or so that i have owned this vehicle the rear glass keeps popping open when i hit bumps.i do not open the rear glass or the liftgate very often right now but i probably will once my child gets here in march.that is how i know its not from failing to close the glass properly.this happend at least 20 times since i have owned the vehicle.i took the car to the dealer and asked them to look at it and they could find nothing wrong but there must be some sort of design flaw that allows this thing to just pop open when you hit a small bump (its not just large bumps or potholes that cause it to open).i would really like gmc to address this issue before someone gets hurt or something falls out of the rear of the vehicle and injures someone.
While the vehicle was parked driver heard a loud knocking noise. Consumer inspected the vehicle, and noticed that the rear window broke on its own. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the window needed to be replaced.
Re odi#10026102: vehicle with stalling problem brought to dealer who detected no defect. Dealer unable to rectify problem. I hope stalling problem does not occur at highway speeds as it has with other vehicles, same make and model.dealer stated wandering driverside mirror fixed. We'll see.
Consumer states thatdriver's and passenger's outside mirrors are too small for the vehicle. Not able to se on coming cars.when the mirrors are set they will not stay set on that position.
Mirrors will not hold programed settings.when starting the vehicle, they have to be reset, when changing from one direction to another, they need to be reset.multiple "save" of the settings makes not difference.drivers seat will not move into the easy exit position which is also a program feature that is not saved.mirrors go so far out of direction that you either look at the pavement, the sky or three lanes to the right or left.
Mirrorswill not stay in position ,and that makes it hard todrive in traffic.dealer has replaced several parts. However, the mirrors are still defective.the consumer stated that the mirrors must be reset every time the vehicle is started.the vehicle was in an accident due to the mirror defect while driving at night.the consumer would like themirror problem addressed.*tc
Automatic mirrors will not maintain position/move on their own.
Mirrors are self adjusting, and without prior warningmirrors can adjust anyway possible.dealership is aware ofproblem, but at this time there is no solution.
The 2002 gmc envoy electronic operation of side view mirrors does not work consistently.the mirrors would reposition themselves randomly while the vehicle was in motion.gmc had serviced the vehicle numerous times, although the computer had been upgraded, the mirror motors have been replaced more than once and the mirrors have been reset several times under warranty, but the problem continued. *sc
The vehicle's remote control rear view mirrors adjust themselves. The dealer has attempted to repair the problem six times. *nlm
This mirror defect was similar to the ones mentioned inodi id numbers 755966, 757526, 757914, 759042, 759973, 760504 and 8000646. Consumer'sfile number with gmc has been 1-11855349.this was very unsafe because when thinking that mirrors were set, they were not.at night or in the dark consumer must wait to see a light to set them.dt.
Both outside mirrors emit an irratating high-pitched whistle when exceeding 45 mph. Dealer says there is no remedy at this time. Dealer also advisded me that gm is aware of the problem but is not sure if or when a remedy will be developed and available. Excessive wind noise in general is also a concern.
*kmb
Vehicle comes equipped with an automatic rear view mirror adjusting system.while driving the mirror goes out of its setting and readjusts itself. This causes poor visibility.
Automaticadjusting mirrors wander to unprogrammed positions at random.
The memory mirror feature on the vehicle worked for a while, then failed.every time i get in the car the mirrors would set themselves incorrectly at angles that render them useless.i have been to the dealership 3 times, and they have been great to work with.they have tried everything gm suggests but the problem still keeps coming back.while this issue may at first seem minor, it really is a serious safety issue as it requires the outside mirrirs to have to be reset before every drive.having your mirrors in proper setting is critical to the safe operation of a vehicle.gm does not seem to take the problem seriously enough to find a permanent fix.
First, rainsense windshield wiper equipped vehicle has windshield wipers stop and stutter at least three times on each forward and back cycle when in intermittent mode.wipers now delay up to 30 seconds at top of cycle (straight up on windshield) and are getting progressively worse.nearly caused a collision with vehicle in front.dealer attempted to replace "pulse relay"which did not work and then tech stated they operate normally and customer does not understand function of rainsense feature despite owning vehicle for 2 years without prior issue.second, right passenger outside mirror randomly changes setting creating a safety hazard during maneuvering of vehicle.dealer states there is no problem despite fixing at least 5 times prior.please note prior 19 complaints with nhtsa online out of 200 listed.this would seem to require a recall.
2002 gmc envoy the driver side mirror does not retain memory setting for either driver. Could cause an accident by not being in proper position while operating the vehicle.
Outside mirrors do not return to the pre-selected position set by the memory when doors are unlocked with the remote control key fob.they constantly searche for the correct position.
Exterior power rear view mirrors will not stay in same position. The mirrors are to automatically move into proper position when the key fob is depressed. Majority of the time the mirrors stop in the wrong position.
Both side rear view programmable mirrorswill stay in the proper position.they will change position at all times.
While driving the exterior motorized rear viewmirror, moves by themselves. This causes poor visibility, that can result in an accident. The dealership replaced the vehicles' main computer chip, but problem still occurs. Please provide more details. Ts
The exterior mirrors malfunctioned, when the vehicle was put into reverse, the mirrors moved downward, however when the vehicle was put into drive, the mirrors failed to return to its original position.
Both power exterior mirrorsmoved while driving. They would not stay in place. This condition causes poor visibility while driving driving or parking. The dealer was notified.
The outside automatic adjusting mirror have a mind of their own and have to be reset each time for each driver they are programmed to. Once adjusted, you may look to change lanes and find they are not anywhere near where they were adjusted. I have come close to having a number of accidents due to this problem. The dealer reprogrammed the mirrors and they continue to do the same thing.
Uncommanded movement of outside rear view mirrors.drivers and passengers outside rear view memory mirrors wander and do not go back to a previously set positions.pressing key fob to unlock doors, inserting key into ignition or pressing memory recall button causes mirror movement from preset positions requiring manual readjustments every time vehicle is driven.when using tilt in reverse function, mirrors do not return to initial driving position.mirrors also drift out of position while highway driving for extended periods of time (mainly driver's side).vehicle has been to dealer service department 6 times for this particular problem.both mirrors have been replaced, passenger mirror currently operating properly after replacement.presented service department with a copy of gm service bulletin 02-08-64-008 dated april 2002 during my last visit (mar 2003) to have drivers mirror corrected.they stated several other customers have the same problem and gm has directed them to not replace mirrors despite the gm service bulletin.they could not provide any time frame they expect a resolution from gm if any and did not open a service ticket for my vehicles discrepancy during the last visit.properly adjusted rear view mirrors are a required safety item for all vehicles licensed to be driven on public roads.malfunctioning mirrors clearly jeopardize public safety and it is obvious from the information available, gm has a safety problem with their product requiring immediate attention and resolution.any additional information and help resolving this safety issue will be appreciated. *nlm
Bothe side mirrors do not return to their set position when ignition turned on, returned to dealer to correct problem 3 times. Dealer reports there is no problem, problem still not corrected.
Electronic side mirrors keep moving.
Vehicle 2002 gmc envoy [xxx]outside rearview mirrors adjust themselves to odd positions almost daily or every time i drive this vehicle.it is necessary for me to stop the vehicle and place the transmission in park and then push the memory button as many as 4 times to get the mirrors in proper position, or adjust the mirror while driving using the joy stick control.the dealer has not been able to correct the problem except asking me to return the vehicle for the 3rd time.incident date is every day the vehicle is driventhank youinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The side mirrors worked at random, which made it difficult to see while driving.
Turn switch previously replaced becuase hazards came on when putting on turn signal.now windshield wipers are stuck on and had to pull fuse to stop, will be returning to dealer, again
Windshield wipers andtransmission are not functioning properly due to a malfunction in the electrical system.

Windshield wipers run intermittently while on the delay cycle.
The windshield wipers would not operate.there were wet roads and fog; but, it was not raining.the wipers were needed to see adequately.when roads dried and fog subsided, went to dealer for replacement of motor assembly.
Dt: the contact stated the windshield wipers failed to turn off. The problem first began intermittently, but has gradually got worse. There was a recall, and the repairs were made. However, the problem recurred.the dealership was contacted. Sincerecallrepairs already been performed the dealer stated all other replacements would be at the contact'sexpense.
When driving in the rain windshield wipers failed, causing the driver to pull off the road.
Own 2002 envoy from gmc, after 15,000 miles developed a grinding noise in wheels.have been back to dealer and spoke to gmc direct.they have tried to correct 5 times.they acknowledge problem in axle.have put conversion kit in to correct, which didn't work.mechanic claims dealership have two other envoy's with same problem.i believe this maybe a manufacturing defect.they are trying to resolve this problem for me.i am not requesting any help with this issue.i want this at least to be a matter of record for any future complaints which may come your way.
2002 envoy wheel studs broke completely off 3 times.***no answer required***the studs always break off in the same location, the driver's side rear wheel.the wheels have been rotated by the dealer every 7/8000 miles.
