2006 gmc xuv has a tailgate problem with not opening with electric opener. When this happens there is no emergency way to open the tailgate since the latches only operate with electricity (switches). Weather is the main fault poor engineering lets parts get wet inside the door frame and destroys the latches and electronics stored inside.

One incident where the door malfunctioned in a position where the door came completely off three of the latches and the door was only being held on by the non-electronic latch, the door fell into my arms and i had to hold the door up and manually place it into position so i could get it to close. Had i not caught the door, it would have fallen to the ground. It would have been damaged. It could have been possible that the door fell out onto me, causing injury. On october 1st, 2011 the door came open while sitting at a red light, as the vehicle pulled away at a green light the door flung open in a tailgate fashion(truckbed style) and slammed against the stops causing the window to shatter on the road. Prior to this happening, we were loading groceries into the back with the door opened in the swing door fashion( to the side) when we attempted to close the door, it just bounced back and did not secure. We kept trying to secure the door and finally the door secured, but it would only secure with one electronic latch and the manual latch, the top left latch would not close. It showed ajar on the dash. As stated above when we pulled away at a green light, the door flung open like a truck bed style with the window up. The door is not designed to open truckbed style with the window up, the window needs to be in the open position before it will open truck bed style. Even if you were to activate the truckbed latch opener, the door would sense that the window was up and default to the side swing method. The tailgate door is a safety hazard due to the poor design of the door which allows water and dirt/sand to infiltrate the latches and cause un-wanted operations which could cause injury or death.

The speedometer has been an ongoing problem, with it not working properly. It will go out of wack while driving, and you do not know what your speed is when it drops past the 120 mph range, then when vehicle is stopped, it may read 60 or 70 mph range. People are making complaints all over about this as well as the gas gauge doing the same thing. Gmc dealer states that there are no recalls on these problems. These are safety related problems, and need to be recalled. I have an extended warranty on my vehicle (still in force), with a $100 deductible, but why should the warranty company pay for this, if it is a problem with gm (many makes and models, not just mine). I also know for fact, what the problem is, and that is these gauges have "stepper motors", that control the "needle" that shows speed, fuel, rpm, ect, and the stepper motors are the defective part. When the stepper motors are replaced, they have a new part number, as the defective ones have the old part number. All gm dealers are aware of this, yet refuse to replace at there cost. If the oem equipment was fine, then why are the replacements different and with a new part number. My gmc dealer ship, won't even replace the stepper motors, and want to replace the entire instrument cluster. This again is a safety issue, and a money issue, as i know first hand after receiving a $165 speeding ticket, not knowing how fast i was going with no traffic around. The gas gauge may read half a tank, and then you stall out on the freeway, and get rear ended, which at those speeds, hope you or the person that rear ends you survive! not to mention an insurance claim (auto and/or bi claim), and/or a possible death. By the way, i am an auto insurance adjuster by trade, and have been for 34 years. I simply want a recall on this ongoing problem, so folks can drive down the road safely again, with peace of mind.

The speedometer in my 2005 gmc envoy is malfunctioning. It registers 120 mph or is off the chart. At rest the speedometer us stuck on 60 mph.

The speedometer has gotten stuck at 120 mph & will not reset... This has happened off & on & i was usually able to reset the speedometer by turning on and off the vehicle several times... But now, it has officially stayed at 120mph. I am unable to tell how fast i am actually driving. I know gmc had similar issues with their chevrolet vehicles - & that resulted in a class action lawsuit to have them issue a recall.... I would really like to see a recall on this... It is unsafe to drive this way!!

The speedometer quit working.

Driving on interstate 91 south, glanced down to see my speedometer indicated i was traveling 75 miles perhour let off the accelerator to decrease speed when i realized the vehicle behind mine had to pull around my vehicle to avoid hitting mine in the rear. Several miles later i discovered my speedometer indicated i was traveling 120mph although keeping up with traffic. As i pulled of highway and hit my brakes the speedometer decreased in speed, although when at a complete stop speedometer indicated i was traveling 30 mph. This causes some concern since i only have 41,119 miles on my 2005 envoy xuv. I contacted gmc and was told there was no recall on my vehicle and scheduled a service appointment with a gmc dealer to figure out the problem. This issue after some research had been an ongoing problem and find it difficult a recall has not been made for this issue. Speed is a hazard, that's why speed limits are posted, that's also why speedometers are put into vehicles in the first place.lets pray for once that someone is not injured simply because the driver could not afford to spend the money for an issue that could have been corrected by gm.

Exhaust manifold on envoy 2005, 4.2 engine. Crack in the manifold this is a serious issue and seems to be common. This issue should be a recallable item by gm. This effects our environment and safety.

When i fill upthe gas gauge stays on empty for a long time, this happens every time i fill up.

Failure of fuel gauge resulting in stall in traffic, dealer repair required replacement of sender, fuel pump and fuel filter all located in fuel tank.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy xuv. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective and the vehicle would not allow her to add more than 15 gallons of gasoline into the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 95,000 and current mileage was 110,000. Updated 07/08/11*ljthe fuel gauge read empty and the low fuel gauge light illuminated even when the consumer put gas in the vehicle. The consumer stated no one has a solution. Updated 07/15/11

I own a 2005 gmc envoy xuv with approximately 64000 miles on it. The complaint i wish to report is a malfunction with the fuel level sensor. The fuel level sensor has stopped working and reads empty constantly, even when the vehicle is full of fuel. The sensor chimes a warning sound to indicate fuel is low. This has been an issue for us for 5 months. We have spent much time researching this issue to try to repair it ourselves, and it has seemed to be an issue that needs dealership attention. I was in process of scheduling an appointment with gmc, when a letter from gmc arrived in the mail. They were able to locate us by our vin. In the letter, gmc fully acknowledges the faulty fuel level sensor and offers to pay 50% of repair costs at a certified gmc dealership. Although i appreciate their offer, the repair will still be approximately $200 at 50%. I am writing today to let my voice be heard that the last few months dealing with this issue have been extremely challenging. I have had to be constantly aware of my exact mileage, and fearful of running out of fuel, stranded on the interstate with my family. To me, it is a safety issue that gmc should repair as a courtesy to their customers. We purchased this vehicle because of the reputation of an american company and am hoping that others along with us will report this issue.

Fuel gauge stopped working and the front end sounds like its loose. I have a five year old and can;t even tell when i'm low on gas and i'm not sure what's going on with the front end.

Though i had 1/4 tank of gas in my car, i put in 13.5 gallons of fuel. When i turned on the engine, instead of the gas gauge showing full, the indicator dropped down to empty and the "low fuel" lights went on.this continued with the indicator showing 1/4 full, empty, full, empty until several days later, when it settled at 3/4 full.every time i have added fuel to the gas tank, the same thing happens.i have been forced to write down my milage and keep track of how far i have driven in order to estimate when i need fuel.i cannot trust what the gauge reads.

Our 2005 gmc envoy has always had a faulty fuel gauge and has caused our family to be stranded a few times without gas while travelling far from home. We took it into a gmc dealer who wanted $ 950 for parts and repairs.we just dont have that kind of money. Gmc has always been aware of this problem and has not offered to fix it nor have a recall on this faulty gas gauge.856,000 gm suvs under investigation for faulty fuel gaugesfederal regulators are investigating 865,000 general motors suvs, including the 2005-?07 chevrolet trailblazer and buick rainier, for faulty fuel gauges that are inaccurate. Purchased the 2005 gmc envoy xuv used in 2009 with 41000 miles. Within 3 months the envoy started having rear door latch failures. The rear door and glass can be opened in a traditional side door mode or a truck bed mode. Frequently the electronic latches that operate to let the door function in either way would fail. The envoy has been in several times over three years to have all the latches repaired and or replaced. Each latch has been replaced several times. When the latches fail, and they have failed in a configuration that when i tried to open the door in a side door way, three latches let lose and the door fell open with only one latch holing the rear door on. I was forced to have to lift the door back into the slots where the door pegs lock into the latches. One time three latches failed and i had to use bungee cords to keep the door closed so that i could drive it to the dealer to have the latches replaced. The dealer charges me 50 dollars per visit per the warranty, however the vehicle has to go in at least 3 times a year to have the latched looked at and repaired or replaced. They replace the fixed latches at no cost but i still get charged 50 dollars for the visit. The warranty is soon to be off this vehicle. Also the gas gauge failed to operate correctly within months of owning the envoy. The gas gauge would show more fuel then what i had, or show no fuel whatsoever even though i had just filled the gas tank up. The gauge needle would bounce back and forth all the time or get stuck full or empty as well. It was found that there was a bad fuel level sensor in the tank. It was replaced. I have also had to replace the front pinions of the envoy twice during the three years i have owned it because they were leaking. I have also had to have the differential carrier overhauled because the front differentials were both leaking. These pinions and differential repairs were three different visits to the dealer, not at once.

After filling up with gas and then proceeding to start the engine, the fuel gauge indicates a false reading of no fuel and the yellow light is constantly on.

Vehicle: 2005 gmc envoy xuvissue: rear door latches failed due to excessive rust build up. Problem is exactly like that found on 2002-03 envoy. Road salt gets into latch and rusts out. Both door effected and required rem=placement.

After having the car serviced at the dealer i noticed the rear suspension was sagging.i had this checked at the dealer but they could find no problem.the rear suspension still will sag but not with any regularity, sometimes in one night, other times 3-4 nights.

Car was parked in driveway for the afternoon and the rear glass shattered for no reason.no evidence of anything hitting rear glass. Half the glass was inside vehicle and half the glass was blown backon the hood and bumper of my second car which was parked directly behind said vehicle. Neither one was in motion.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the front passenger side window failed. The contact stated that he attempted to roll the window up but it would not move. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they file a complaint. The failure mileage was 129,000. ..updated 12/06/12 updated 12/06/12

Both of my windows which slide down with the push of a button do not work! they have both busted. One is stuck down. The other i have to shove up because while driving from the vibrations it falls. Very unsafe. They both stopped work while i was operating them by pushing the button for them to slide down. I have not replaced them yet. Its very costly. Its hard to believe no recall has been done. I have found many other complaints regarding this.
