Vehicle: n04 gmc envoyvin: [xxx]the above vehicle was purchased 12/31/04 and was totaled 5/05. My son was driving the vehicle and witness say the brakes had locked and caused my son to go into a slide and the vehicle fell down the side of the hill. The vehicle had performed a 180 and rolled down the hill. The air bags and on star did not deploy. Gmac investigated the incident and indicated that there were no recall and the brakes showed no cracks. The investigator 813-731-3051 and photos of the area show the brakes had locked. Gmac refuses to share the investigative report. Updated 07/19/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Was sitting in parking lot, closed the drivers side door, turned key ignition on and passenger airbag deployed. Car was not out of park. Brake was depressed. Car was not struck by anything around it. Previously my drivers side airbag had deployed in the same fashion. Parked car, not in gear.

My airbag light remains on, indicating that there is a problem.the dealer claims that the bag will either not deploy, or suddenly deploy for no reason unless i replace it.i was told this was not part of the recalls...but it is clearly a safety issue.i don't feel that i should pay for the replacement.

Rear air bags leak down and then at random pump back up.took it moore buick for repair and, once again, they replaced an expensive part and this a.m. The air bags had leaked down again. This is the last vehicle i will buy from moore buick and/or gmc.

I got a defected passenger airbag code from mechanic. I just want to make sure this is not an issue with the recall on airbags up to 2003 on my vehicle. This code comes up regularly for my vehicle.

I was in accident on saturday february 4, 2012 in my 2004 envoy xuv.i was traveling approx. 40 mph when another car pulled in front of me and within 1 second i t-boned the side of their car.my airbags did not deploy. Fortunately all i ended up with was minor bruses from the steering wheel and the seatbelt strap.this was to be the best engineered suv gmc had ever made and i was shocked the airbags did not deploy.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the air bags deployed with out any warnings. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was not involved in a crash.no injuries were reported. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000.

Car was bought in 2004. Was taken to the dealer several times to have airbag light fixbut it was never resolved it was said to be fine. No hazard. Never involved in a car crash. Cars turns on and it prompt you to check airbags. Today i was watching the news and someone mentioned this site. I wanted to see it there has been a recall

My fiance was driving my 2004 gmc envoy suv.while driving reported to be approximately 40 mph; the car in front of her slammed on her brakes, she attempted to brake, swerved to the right to avoid the car in front of her, crashing into a utility pole.she was wearing her seat belt.during this time neither the driver or passenger side airbag deployed.she was taken by ambulance treated for scrapes & bruises, pain, minor injuries, major injuries ruled out by x-rays & ct scans, then released. I understand the theory " if a personis able to walk away from the crash the vehicle did it's job."my concern was not much of a concern until the responding emt's, officers, and mechanic at the place where the car is currently stored all voiced concerns regarding the fact no airbag deployed in this accident.i also became concerned after seeing the damage done to the vehicle. We are not officially sure of the status of the car at this time as we are still waiting to hear from the adjuster. However, the mechanic & responding officer believe it is totaled.the entire front window shattered, passenger side door is ripped off hanging on a thread, the entire front end/grill ripped off, both headlights crushed, the passenger side headlight is no longer there, the passenger side front tire entirely missing along with anything holding it in place, the glove compartment is almost touching the front passenger seat.the passenger seat was pushed back toward the back seat of the car as well.my fiance was alone in the vehicle, the concern is if she hadn't been, what would have happened to a passenger...clear speculation , but the airbag may have been the only saving grace a passenger would have had. We have contacted the dealership, gm, and consumer affairs, and now nhtsa with this concern.thank you for taking the time to review this report.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact stated that the speedometer suddenly stopped working. Contacted dealer about issue and told instrument cluster needed to be repaired. The dealer also stated that they would not be responsible for the repairs. Through online research, the contact discovered that numerous people were experiencing the same failure and gm sept 2007 tsb 07187 included envoy but latest revisions b & c at dealers does not include envoy.the vehicle has not yet been repaired; however, the contact believes that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect and a recall should be issued. The vehicle has only 20,000 miles and see this lack of gmc owning up to its issue is a huge safety problem.

2004 gmc envoy suv, 45,xxx miles.november 2009 envoy would not hold charge (new battery replaced 7-09), jumped envoy and would loose charge, keys always were locked in vehicle ignition. April 2010 again, vehicle would not hold charge (something draining battery - nothing left on).took vehicle to mechanic, no problems located, mechanic replaced 7-09 battery (free), drove vehicle 4 days and did not drive for 5 days - again vehicle would not start (no lights, etc)jumped vehicle off.took vehicle back to mechanic, nothing indicated in starter, alternator, battery - nothing was left on.took home again same problem 4 days running, 6 days did not drive, vehicle will not start; had to jump off again.it is currently at the mechanic.in the meantime i researched and found gm bulletin 04-06-03-002 for "misindexed ignition switch"; numerous reports online of same issue.currently envoy is at mechanic after i reported gm bulletin.

Whenever i turn on my heating system fan, my warning lights for the abs and brake failure lights come on and the on dash computer indicates service brakes immediately.i had the brakes checked and they are fine.there appears to be some electronic malfunction.car is at dealer now

Xuv would not shift out of 3rd.vehicle sat over night and would not start the next day.dealer checked all systems, replaced ignition switch.two weeks later, vehicle would not start.it was determined the starter was bad, it was replaced.now the speedometer is going haywire like others.mechanic stated it would cost over $700 to replace components.

The speedometer in my 2004 gmc envoy is malfunctioning, this problem is well documented by many envoy/gmc owners.symptoms are indication of movement when the vehicle is stopped, any where up to maximum speedometer indication.at times the speedometer will stay at 0 when the vehicle is moving.submitted a service request to gm but was denied any assistance.

I had a 2004 gmc envoy xuv and had several things going wrong.the speedometer was radical, some days it would work and other days not.the back window of the vehicle would be down for no reason at all when i was not even in or near the car. The engine light would come on and go off.like a fool i just purchased a used 2004 gmc envoy xuv, only owned it 2 days and smelled gas.looked under the vehicle and the entire rear of the underside of it was covered in gasoline.there was a small puddle on the garage floor.took the vehicle back to the dealer and they took out the gas tank and there is a leak in the filler neck.still waiting to get the car back, can't find parts.this will be my last envoy.

The speedometer and oil pressure gauges are erratic. Speedometer needle sometimes reads up to 30 mph above or below actual speed. Concurrently the oil pressure gauge is reading at its max and will not return to 0 when the vehicle is turned off. I have researched this issue online and it seems to be happening to a lot of people who have cars with these panels.

On june 8 2013 both the driver and passenger seat power adjustments ceased to operate or respond in any way.both seat stuck in a full back position.the next day, june 9 2013, the vehicle was at idle and in park for no more than 4 or 5 minutes, when an odd smell was noticed.a small electrical fire to include sparks and a lot of smoke then erupted under the passenger seat.the driver turned the vehicle off, and the passenger and 18 month old child, and driver all exited the vehicle.the fire died, and the smoke cleared.waited 15 minutes, restarted the vehicle with no problems.the vehicle was dropped off the next day, june 10 2013, a chevy dealership.the vehicle is currently under diagnoses.

The third brake light connections located in the rear tailgate are severely corroded and will not light up when braking.this condition does not allow passing of state inspection.the entire brake light assembly and wire harness must to replaced to pass state vehicle inspection.this condition is continuous, when parked, when driving (we followed it around the block to see if it jiggled on), i have nothing to upload because the brake light will not light up.

Speedometer don't work, gas gauge don't work, transmission is going outetc and i only had the vehicle for 9 months now but the problems have been for along time.

The speedometer needle fluttered and then stuck between 100-120 mph.it is unclear if there is any current service bulletin (e.g., #07187a (includes envoy) and #07187b (does not include envoy), or #040845010) which covers this defect which, according to various chat sites, has occurred in other vehicles.it is unsafe to drive the vehicle.we are awaiting a replacement part which will be at our expense.replacement costs vary be geographic location.

2004 gmc envoy xuv i have a little over 40,000 miles and my speedometer has stopped working.it says i'm going 120 mph when i may be doing 50 mph.the needle moves erratically.i'm finding i'm not the only gm customer having this problem.i feel this should be a safety recall.especially on a vehicle that's only 2 years old w/ under 50,000 miles.this is a road hazard and an expense i should not have to pay.

I have a 2004 suv xlt. I bought my car with 400 miles on it. I had the gas tank replaced early on. Went back to gmc b/c they had not installed it properly. I've had both front and rear sway bars replaced and both knock sensors replaced. My middle window decided to quit working and i haven't gotten it fixed because the guys at the gmc service center said they couldn't imagine what it could be and they would have to charge me $100 for a diagnosis!! my radio/cd player is only half lit up and stops working when it gets too hot from playing a cd... I am currently having issues with the fan clutch, thermostat and a leak in my front differential.meanwhile the guys at the dealership wanted to charge me $1,500 to replace my knock sensors again and didn't even find the leak when they were "diagnosing" my issue.i truly do love my car, but i am super mad about the middle window and super mad about all of these issues. I take care of my car and do all of the routine maintenances. I think i know why it was only on the market for two years. Please help us get our middle windows fixed. I didn't do anything to cause it to stop working.

2004 envoy xuv, impeccably maintained, had *no* response to accelerator as i made a left turn at a light across oncoming traffic.service engine soon and reduced engine power lights illuminated on dash. Was fortunate not to have an accident.pulled to side of road. Turned off engine.restarted, and it ran okay but the service engine soon light reappeared.drove another 35 miles with light on.the next morning it had re-set and the light is gone from the dash.how in the world does gm expect us to be able to replicate such incidents for a tech to fix? such failures will eventually kill someone.

The speedometer stopped working properly.it would register at all kinds of speed.then it will stick below 120mph.this is an everyday occurrence. It is now to the point that the odometer is not working properly.i have had an estimate drawn up to repair/replace and it was over 600 dollars.i feel that with all of the other complaints listed about the same issue, gm should issue a recall and cover the cost for repair, since this is a safety issue.

2004 gmc envoy xuv w/76k miles; speedometer is erratic. Shows no speeds sometimes or shows slow speed sometimes or shows excessive speed sometimes. Dealer indicated gmc yukons, full size gmc pickup and cadillac suv's were recalled for defective speedometers.. Dealer stated not enough reported speedometer problems with envoy xuv's to warrant a safety recall. How many defective speedometers are required to warrant a safety recall?

My car overheated on a normal day, about 80 degrees outside.i checked and replaced a defective thermostat, and started the engine only to find it misfiring badly for the first time.i gained advise from a local auto store and changed my spark plugs.when i pulled out the old ones, i found three of the six covered in oil.upon further research, i was instructed to remove the manifold and replace the tube seals but the plastic manifold cover would not come off as indicated in a gm mechanics manual.this is the last of several problems i've had with the 2004 gmc envoy xuv 2wd inline 6. I see many complaints on the oily spark plug issue and cracked manifold but no tsbs. Last year, i had my a/c compressor go out and replaced, my gas tank leak and replaced under a 'special warranty', a diagnosis that my heater core is bad, all three motor mounts go out and replaced, and a number of various small electronic components go out. I need gmc to correct these issues outstanding with my vehicle and expect appropriate action from them.i spent well over $40000 for this vehicle and its not even 10 years old yet.gm has been well known for long life of their engines and body frames, and have said so on their behalf.they need to live up to the reputation i have so loyally painted for them.

Speedometer malfunction - envoy 2004 -electrical errorsspeedometer malfunctions off & on.......up to 120 mph while idling, not able to get correct speed reading.......unsafe.

When in traffic traveling across states on highway at 55-65 mph left lane(scary) i ran out of gas when the gauge showed 1/4 of a tank now when tank is full it read 1/2 and at times the gauge floats around full to empty when driving some time it reads empty when i put 10 gallons in was told a bad fuel sender in tank i read other reports that g m recall will only pay half the cost to repair??

My 2004 envoy xuv speedodometer stuck at 55mph. I spoke to dealer technician and was told i had to replace the instrument cluster because of a small thing called a stepper motor. This seems to be an on going problem with gm vehicles. I strongly suggest a safety recall because this is failing on thousands of vehicles.*ln

1) fobs stopped working and had to be reprogrammed2) tailgate switches stopped working both at the same time 3) speedometer stopped reading accurately when the vehicle was driven in the rearing or had the underbody sprayed while washing.

Battery died, could not open rear of vehicle, to retrieve pet dog inside.their should be an emergency release.

Speedometer defect - known issue but no recall; can't tell how fast or slow i'm going, after reading forums, not sure if other dashboard problems - hard to drive safely when trying not to watch the dash to see if something other than speedometer indicates a problem. Distraction to the point of being dangerous - especially around this area. What about school zones?

Faulty instrument cluster per gm, speedometer and fuel gauge act up on their own. Cannot rely on gauges while driving...

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. After restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate as normal. The contact also stated that after turning the engine off and removing the ignition key, the instrument panel and gauges would continue to illuminate causing the battery power to drain. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition switch failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000.updated 9/12/14the consumer stated the rear windows and gate failed. The ignition failure was a daily problem. The ignition stays on which results in battery failure. There is no safety release for the rear gate. Updated1/27/2015

Car lurched forward and engine speeded up when pulling into my driveway at home.most of my dashboard gauges have been failing over the last year including the speedometer.i was using the cruise control prior to the event.i think it may be related to the computer.i was able to stop the car by turning off the engine.the brakes would not stop the car.the dealer has advise me that they know about the instrument panel failing but no recall has been issued.

Bought new. Nothing but problems with electrical system. Most started out of warranty. Entire instrument panel stopped working, had to replace. Radio system comes and goes, most of the time not working. A/c heating blower stopped working. Different component like window, wipers, door lock just operate on they own then lock up. Issues with ignition. Can't remove the key. Now rear window goes down on its own. Vehicle won't start, rear tail gate won't operate. Only way to start is by jumping but once turned off the battery drains so can't go anywhere because you're u never know if it going to start again.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy. The speedometer sticks at various speed readings. I try to see how fast it is going at a dead stop and then add that number to figure how fast i am going. But now when i drive for only a few minutes the speedometer will be pegged at over 120 mph. Searching the internet for answers to fix this problem, it seems that there are several people with the same problem, and several different solutions were tried to fix the problem. I am not going to spend time and money to try a solution that may or may not work. When i went to the dealer they said they would have to replace the entire cluster. If i get the same cluster type back i will have the same problems.can you help me with this problem? it sounds like you have been getting several complaints concerning this issue. What advice did you give the others with similar problems?

We have a 2004, gmc envoy xuv, which we purchase brand new in 2004. Since last year winter, i noticed that my speedometer would get stuck and run erratically, which i thought at the time was due to the cold. Occasionally too, we'd come to the garage to find the rear window open and the tailgate unable to open. During those times, we were able to bring the window back up with the button inside the vehicle, as well as unlock the tailgate by locking and unlocking the doors with the remote. Also, the truck would stall during driving, especially at turns, but would start again. Just last week, my wife was just about to leave home last week, when she noticed the rear tailgate window had gone down by itself as usual; following which all electronic efforts to bring it up failed, and the tailgate or roof wouldn't open as well. Then, we heard some humming inside the tailgate.my wife left home only to have the truck's battery fail at the local mall. Since then, the instrument cluster has also continuously gone haywire, with the speedometer reading erratically as well as the oil pressure gauge.the dealership says there are no recalls regarding any of these manufacturing defects, and my research indicates these are problems most gmc envoy xuv owners are experiencing, without recourse of having it fixed by gm at no charge. Now, we know why they have lost the market share to japan vehicles, because our next vehicle will never be a gm, unless all these problems are recalled and fixed. We'll also ensure to mount a lack-of-confidence campaign against gm vehicles with everyone we know, if nothing is done about asap by gm.

Erratic speedometer operation.shows various speeds when stopped.inaccurate when underway.will show up to 110 mph driving in the city.dealer says instrument panel needs to be repaired at cost of over $400.same problems on full size gm trucks.full size trucks are being covered under service bulletin #07187a, b, & now c.speedometer repair shop says stepper motors are bad.same part number and repair as on full size trucks.gm has excluded envoy and trailblazer from this repair coverage.

First noticed reduced radio volume as if speakers were not completely connected.they radio would work correctly from time to time. Service dept said it would have to replace entire dash system.then noticed rear door/tailgate would not open as a door, next the tailgate stopped functioning all together; this makes the rear part of the xuv useless and dangerous.dealer stated that is electronic and that all tailgate/rear door hinges rusted due to water coming in where rear window is/estimate is over $650.00 and it would happen again!!! next the driver's door will not unlock except by manual unlocking from inside and sometime the key will not unlock to driver's door. Key fob will not work on driver's door, tailgate/rear door; however, key fob works on passenger doors. Dealer stated that the tailgate/rear door issue has a history of this happening so why isn't there a recall???? when will gmc make this right???

The speedometer will not register the correct speed intermittently.

Speedometer gage in instrument cluster stops/sticks randomly. I need to start/stop the ignition to decrease the mph reading in 5mphdecrements. Faulty stepper motor.

Speedometer stopped working correctly on my 2004 envoy, with only 24000 miles on it. I was on a trip last week which caused me to get a speeding ticket because of this. Originally it was 10 mph off, but now is reading as high as 70 mph while the vehicle is standing still. Based on other info i had read on the web, this has been a consistent problem with gmc envoys yet no recall has been issued by gm and the cost to repair is very high ($500.00 +). This is now a variable problem that shows my speed off as much as 80 mph and could have caused me to be traveling at excessive, unsafe speeds, if i tried to use it.

Cluster panel on my 2004 gmc envoy xuv has failed.gm stated they are not aware of any problems with this type of car.information on the internet has different information.i asked about thisto gm and they stated they are not aware of anything being on the internet and can not be held responsible for what is on the internet.

Bought new and loved the ride.list price was over $42,000. Well maintained. 1st lost speedometer and other gauges. Replaced instrument cluster. 40k miles replaced blower motor. 60k miles window behind backseat just dropped. Replaced regulator (i think). 62k miles check engine light - replaced fuel cap then took to dealer - $600 replaced a oxygen sensors. Check engine light came back on a few days later with same code. Just driving with it now. 68k miles - replaced power steering pump.89k miles - driver side power window module burnt - replaced. 91k miles - while replacing driver side headlight found wire to light was melted. 98k miles rear speakers quite working. Probably a couple of things i have forgotten. 8-12-14 it has 99360 miles on it and still love the ride but have lost faith in gm. I have had 7 gm vehicles and will have no more after this one.some of these items have had a recall but not for this vehicle even though the same parts are in this one as the recalled vehicles.

The speedometer does not register the correct speed.this has been happening for over a year and it is pretty consistent.called gmc and was told it would be fixed for free but when i went to dealership they said no.i still have the problem and believe it should be a recall.

My speedometer has stopped working. The gas gauge says empty when i have just fueled the car to full. The car will surge forward when i am backing out of the drive way and putting car in drive. I have to immediately press on the brake and return the car to neutral position to stop from running into parked cars or the curb. Tonight we were leaving the park and both headlights ( low beam) are not working. All other lights and flashers on the car work. The interior light on the left half of the a/c controller does not work.the motor in the rear window went out. The dealership charged me $ 1000 to replace the motor and then they advised me that the middle window motor was bad and that would be an additional $600 to repair. I only could afford the back window motor. This car is my only mode of transportation and i cannot believe that gm has npt placed a recall on all of these issues.

I have gmc envoy xuv slt 2004 model and last year battery light came on and i changed the battery and still red battery light continued and i took it to dealership and charged me 100 dollars to check and was told that nothing is wrong and red light persisted and was told that cluster board needs change but after few weeks red light was gone and than few weeks later glass between passenger cabin and trunk went down and would not work and took it to mechanic and was told that cables are bad and than few weeks later the speedometer started acting up and would show 30 miles when care is idle and would race to 110 miles and than would start showing normal and took it to mechanic and was told that it will cost 500 dollars and two days ago the tail window glass dropped. And reading on line multiple gm car owners and chery car suv owners have reported similar problems.i think this is a poor work man ship on part of gm and should be recalled or be fixed by gm at no cost to owner. I have lost faith in gm car and probably will not consider .

I purchased my 2004 envoy xuv new. I love it, but the speedometer has been getting progressively worse. I guess i've been one of the lucky ones. The brakes are fine and everything else seem to be ok so far. I currently have 89,000 miles on it and the frequency of the speedo acting up are getting more common. I remember the first time was late in '07. The speedo just kept climbing higher and higher till it was pinned. And stayed there for a day or two. It would read 120 mph parked in the garage. I brought it in and the dealer just rolled their eyes and said they could order another dash board for around $500.00, but i opted not to fix it at that time. The dealer told me it was a common thing with the envoy, but gm has no recalls on it. It had seemed fine for a while. Then it happened again a few times in '08. Now it's only march of '09 and it has happened at least once every two weeks. It is clearly out of warranty but being a safety item such as a instrument cluster one would think it would be a recall item. This appears to be a nation wide issue and gm and the dot / nhtsa do not recognize it? i like the vehicle, i am happy with it otherwise. Just disappointed and frustrated with the nhtsa and gm.

Speedometer stuck at 120 mph even sitting still and turned off. Started a month ago and continually got worse. Now it won't move at all. Very dangerous.

This vehicle seems to have an electrical drain or electrical ghost of some sorts. The battery has been replaced by the dealer 4 time with the previous owner. That was the dealers cure. Then when i purchased it i replaced the battery.then it was replaced for the 6th time 18 months later. The rear window on the tail gate kept going down on it's own until the motor flew apart. The window behind the rear seat went down on it's own and does not work anymore. The retractable back roof will not engage due to the rear window. Driving down the road the ac will come on by itself also the radio, the seat heaters. Now while i'm driving at night the headlights will go out on their own, luckily the bright lights still work, but that's not helping the poor soul in front of me. Gm says that there is no recall on any of this but i'm almost terrified to drive this vehicle or let anyone else drive it at night or anytime for that matter. Not to mention any kind of electrical problems that i may of overlooked.

I have a 2004 envoy xuv.since last year winter, i noticed that my speedometer would get stuck and run erratically, which i thought at the time was due to the cold. Occasionally too, we'd come to the garage to find the rear window open and the tailgate unable to open. During those times, we were able to bring the window back up with the button inside the vehicle, as well as unlock the tailgate by locking and unlocking the doors with the remote. Also, the truck would stall during driving, for no reasonbut would start again (big safety issue!!! i could not steer or brake well). Since then, the instrument cluster has also continuously gone haywire, with the speedometer reading erratically as well as the oil pressure gauge. The mid window no longer functions and my tailgate will not latch closed. I have had it swing open while in traffic (another safety concern!!!!! what if i have something back there and it falls out) the dealership says there are no recalls regarding any of these manufacturing defects, and my research indicates these are problems most gmc envoy xuv owners are experiencing, without recourse of having it fixed by gm at no charge. Now, we know why they have lost the market share to japan vehicles, because our next vehicle will never be a gm, unless all these problems are recalled and fixed. We'll also ensure to mount a lack-of-confidence campaign against gm vehicles with everyone we know, if nothing is done about asap by gm.

While driving on a 5-6 hour trip, the speedometer began malfunctioning about 1/2 way through the trip.we had to use the speedometer on the tomtom to determine our correct speed since the speedometer was reading 5-10 over the speed limit.after the vehicle sat for the night, it started working again...but only to stop again 1/2 way through our trip back home.i have noticed that this has happened to the speedometer on more than one occasion and refuse to pay the outrageous amount to repair it.i think this is a manufacturer defect and should be taken care of by them.

I purchased a 2004 gmc envoy xuv preowned in 2005 still under warranty. It began dimming the lights in the dash board and at the radio area, i took it in to gmc for service and was told that they didn't find anything wrong with my vehicle. On another occasion my car would get louder underneath the hood if i sat idling for a few minutes in a drive through for example, i took it in once again and was told that it was normal nothing was found to be wrong. Now my odometer works off and on as does my oil gauge. Now that my warranty is out i would have to foot the bill to a few problems that i have pointed out to the gmc dealer ship on more than one occasion. I have even gone as far as to ask if there were any recalls and was told no there were not. At one point my middle window fell down while i was driving i took it to gmc to find out the problem and was told it was the regulator, insurance did not cover this and the warranty had run out. Approximately 2-3 weeks later my back window would not go up or down therefore the tailgate would not open, back to gmc i went and was told it was the regulator once again, at this point i asked again about recalls and why both regulators would go bad within weeks of one another, i was told it was a coincidence. Just as recent as july 24 my power locks began locking and unlocking on there own even while i'm driving down the street.i had the battery checked and it all checked out fine. At this point i would not recommend gmc to anyone or buy another! help

I was driving down the road from work all of a sudden my radio starts going up /down by itself, then the next day my windows made a clicking noise now they want let up/down .also the back tailgate was working until this happen my window in back want let up/down nor will the sunroof controls want work.all this happen at once !!!!!! the fuses was checknothing found.

The speedometer sticks and gives the wrong speed about 2x a month, on average.the dealer will not replace and denies there is a problem.

Erratic speed odometer readings, happens 3-4 times weekly. This happens from your actual speed of 40-60 mph, you look down next second and you are going 100-120 mph per odometer. When you come to a stop it says your still going 90-110 mph, only way to reset your odometer is to pull over and restart your car about 50-60 times until it says 0 mph. Sometimes this wont last but 5 min... This also increases your cars mileage. Gmc will not repair this with out charging you 600 dollars. This is not safe for anyone on the road and not fair to people owing cars, or buying cars to have not actual mileage on a car nor to be able to drive safely.updated ivoq 12/03/10.

I bought my new vehicle last week and discovered after taking possession of it that the speedometer ramps up but does not go down.as it is parked it reads between 38 and 120+.dealers say since there is no recall they cannot help me and have quoted between a 500 dollar and 1,000 dollar fix.

Driving on the highway apx70 mph.speedometer was indications 110 mph. Pulled over and speedometer still indicated 35 mph while i was stopped.

2004 gmc envoy speedometer slows down to zero at highway speeds.

Erratic speedometer on 2004 gmc envoy xuv shows various speeds from zero to 120+ mph while driving at normal road speeds.need to use tachometer to determine approximate speed of vehicle (2000 rpm = 65 mph for this vehicle).when ignition is turned off the speedometer needle does not always return to zero, the speedometer needle also shutters a little intermittently when reducing speed.

Speedometer started showing i was going 90-130mph when i was on probably moving 50mph. It was about 30-50mph off. When car is off speedometer shows 50mph. Found out you can make speedometer drop 5mph at a time if you turn the car on& off about 20 times it will eventually go to zero mph. After a few days it does the same erratic behavior. I have read over hundreds of post online about this on this make and model alone and think this is a very big safety concern. I need help and need my car fixed please help.

The speedometer in my 2004 gmc envoy xuv at unpredictable times will display speeds less than my actual speed.this creates an unsafe situation where i cannot ensure that i am driving within posted speed limits.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv.the contact cannot determine how fast she is driving on the freeway.the speedometer does not work correctly when there is a half a tank or less of fuel in the vehicle.gmc stated that there was no recall for her vehicle.the failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 3/19/09 updated 03/23/09.

1. No event. Just driving2. Speedometer failure. 0 at normal driving speeds3. Not corrected.

2004 gmc envoy xuv:the speedometor failed last year, and probably wasn't working properly before that.i see that a number of other people are having the same problems with their gmc's.

The speedometer has become erratic on my 2004 gmc envoy xuv. I am told it will require removal & repair in the range of 500-600 dollars. This appears to be a manufacturing defect that conveniently appears shortly after the expiration of the warranty. From web posts it is obviously a widespread problem that should be addressed by the manufacturer.

Speedometer is pegged at 120 on my 2004 gmc envoy.

1)the speedometer stopped working a few months ago.2)my inspection sticker is now due to be replaced, but i can't get one without the speedometer working.3)customer service thru gmc was no help at all. They said i needed to take it to the dealership to have it looked at.which i will have to pay for, then they will review the case.oh how nice, review it just to tell me i have to pay for it?!i've seen thousands of people reporting this on the internet.why hasn't anything been done?if your everyday average joe is responsible for the work/products he/she puts out, why not the big corporations?

Speedometer suddenly quit working, showing highway speeds of 95-120+mph, only went down to 20mph at lowest when car is stopped. Usually reads 60 atstop.mesh checked it & says instrument cluster. All other gauges ok.seems like enough complaints to get gm to correct this, without charge to customer. Failure now lasted 6 moths - using gps to determine speed.

The speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy xuv intermittently works. Roughly 10% of the time, the gauge will stop working completely. Now, the rpm gauge has also begin acting erratically. I have contacted gmc customer support, and they directed me to the local dealer, who will charge me $79 simply to "diagnose" the problem, followed by a likely $600 repair to replace the entire cluster. A simple online search of "2004 gmc envoy xuv speedometer problems" returned 10's of thousands of hits, so it appears this is a very widespread problem. After checking into the situation with gm dealers there is a recall on the sierra's and yukons which have the same cluster as my vehicle but gm refuses to stand behind the defect on the envoys. Parts have not been replaced yet on my vehicle hoping that gm will wake up and realize this is a common problem on the envoys and that it requires attention.below is just one of many links which highlight the issue many gmc owners are facing:http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2004/gmc/envoy/digital+instrument+panel.

The speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy began acting erratically, sometimes reading too low, and other times reading too high.i was charged $511 by a gm dealer to replace the instrument cluster.the incident date indicated is approximate.with regard to number of failures, this is the approximate number of times i initially observed the speedometer reading too low or too high.each failure lasted for a number of days and then the speedometer seemed to read correctly for a week or two before the next failure.

The speedometer on my envoy xuv jumped from 75mph to 120moh as i slowed down to exit the interstate. It continued to increase, although it was past the point of registering any speed. It has lowered some, but is still acting erratically. This vehicle is only 4 years old, and i'm looking at a $500+ repair.

I have a 2004 trailblazer that the dash components (speed, gas, ect....) hasn't worked since 2008.it is a very expensive fix.i also have latch problems.i had a rear door stop latching...i used a bunjy cord to hold it shut and then proceeded to a junk yard for a 35 dollar new latch.i am a single mom trying to make my truck last.in the past 2 months i have had a fuel pump go, my latch, my tailgate won't open and my sunroof doesn't open any more and my truck is rusting horribly?i also had a cooling issue with emissions. It wasn't reading the engine temperature correctly.i have spent near two thousand dollars in repairs on this vehicle for odd things.p.s.i put the door latch in my self to save money.i have two kids to protect.

Speedometer does not work and dealer won't cover under warranty.seems to be a big problem with gmc vehicles.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy xuv. The speedometer began to show incorrect speed (e.g. On the highway following traffic flow and speedometer reads 20 mph). Other gauges showing problems (e.g. Tachometer showing 7000 rpms when idling, all other gauges positioned in areas below or above there limits, etc.). There seem to be a huge number of complaints on the internet about this exact problem. Took to dealer, thay state it needs instrument cluster panel replaced, estimate over $500.

Speedometer on 2004 envoy xuv lease started acting erratically after warranty had run out.showed120 mph at resting sometimes, often stuck at 120-130 mph.this appeared to be a known defect from my research, and the dealer wanted me to pay for this when turning the car in.

Speedometer cluster failure. I know of 3 cluster failures in the last 4 months. That's just my neighbor and my sister and myself. This is a 500.00 repair and i'm sure that this can't be isolated occurrences.

2004 gmc envoy xuv speedometer does not work except on occassion.

Oil gauge stopped working since 2010.changed oil pressure switch, but oil gauge still not reading. Speedometer gauge started giving false readings since early 2011.fails to read correctly since, reading up to 200mph @ real speeds up to 40mph.about a year later rpm gauge failed and stopped working since early 2012.we never know what speed we are going with a lot of risks involved, including speeding tickets or else.there are many owners with same problem, with costly repairs and sometime no fix.hoping for gmc to step up to the plate.

Just another complaint on the speedometer; vehicle now has 50,000 miles, so it's out of warranty and the dealer won't fix.pull up to a stop sign and speedometer still reads 20 mph.varies all over the place.if gmc doesn't recall, i will have enjoyed both my first and last gmc at the same time.

The speedometer needle broke and gave wrong reading. Had to replace ip cluster.

Speedometer failed at 44,000 miles.gas gauge misreads.instrument cluster is being replace by gmc on other models with the same cluster but they decided not to replace the envoys cluster.gmc knows that they have clusters that fail and have even been monetary reimbursement by other companies to replace but still do not replace for the envoys.

Speedometer failure, fails twice a month for a day or two.

All gauges fail then turn back on, warning bell continues to ring dashboard goes through system check and bell goes off at each check, such as unknown driver, door ajar, ect. Gauges may go deadand come back to live several times within a short trip. When gauges work the alarm bell continues to ring even when driving.

Speedometer started sticking, when turned off and back on would correct this for a short time.after a while speedometer showed i was going 90 mph.since this, my speedometer completely stopped.(although, yesterday when i looked at my speedometer it did show 50 mph then went back to zero)i was also told this was a faulty stepper motor.i don't feel that i should pay $250 to have a $25 motor installed when this is obviously a manufacturing defect.

We bought new a 2004 gmc xuv.from the beginning we had problems with the ignition switch.the car would turn off while driving.also, when parked the ignition switch would not completely turn off.the dash lights would remain on if you do not wiggle the ignition switch.when a few days you come back the battery would be dead.the dealer would not fix it.problem still exist. We keep a battery jumper in the car since new so we are not left stranded.the rear and middle window have failed four times.when this happens you cannot open the back gate or open the roof which i feel is dangerous.you cannot get in or out for there is no release.fixed four times and the window went down again at 74,000 miles and gate is lock again.it has been repaired by the dealer and private mechanics but, the problem still exists.we now have a speedometer and gauges that are not accurate. Gauge lights come on then go off erratically.at the same time our air conditioner blows only on our feet.the mechanics say the entire control panel needs to be replaced.five months later the air conditioner works again.this will probably be our last gm car.

Gmc dealer service tech found the wire to rear defroster corroded and broken.repaired wiring.

I purchased a "new" 2004 gmc envoy, the vehicle is approximateyl 11/2 to 21/2 inches higher on th left side. The vehicle leans to the right, i took the vehicle to the dealer fo them to investigate the problem. They refused to do anything because "gm" told them not to do anything until there were a certain amount of mile on the vehicle. I feel this problem should be investigated as the center of gravity is changde and could create a "roll over " situtaion if the problem isn't adressed. Perhaps the defect has already caused some roll over accidents..

2004 envoy xuv, impeccably maintained, car was parked in my drive way and i started it to go to the store and it started chugging and then almost died, but then went back to normal but the service engine soon and reduced engine power lights illuminated on dash.turned off engine. Restarted, and the service engine soon light was still there so my husband hooked up his code reader and it had the code p1680 ( throttle body postioning censor.) and this isn't the first time it's done it but the engine light has always just flashed it would never stay on so we could read the code. But in order to fix this you have to buy a whole new throttle body housing because the censor is built into it. And it isn't cheap. At autozone it is $280.00. And you have to also buy a gasket for it and new intake manifold gaskets because to remove the throttle body housing which is connected to the manifold you have yo remove the manifold also. How in the world does gm expect us to be able to fix this issue if it's always so much money for parts for these cars. And i also have issues with my back tailgate and both big window motors. I have replaced one but still saving up to replace the middle one and i've also had issues with my gas tank which is $677.00 or more at the dealers for a new gas tank because u can't just fix the filler hose. Such failures will eventually kill someone. So i think gmc needs to take a longer look at these gmc envoy xuvs and get some recalls out to fix these dangerous problems. And honor all cars that come in no matter what. Because we had to fix the gas tank issue ourselves because we could not afford to buy a new gas tank.

Exhaust manifold cracked.gm has a special extended warrenty on model years 2008-2009 only.yet they are the same manifold and same engine on all model years.there are 100's of reports of cracked manifolds online, with all model years.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled several times as the lights on the instrumental panel illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician replaced the 02 sensor however, the failure was not corrected and the vehicle continued to stall without warning. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.

At this point i would not recommend gmc to anyone or buy another! help

I purchased a 2004 gmc envoy xuv and have several significant problems with this vehicle. After researching it seem others have had the same troubles. Since we owned the vehicle, the rear window is found down and noone was even in/near the vehicle. It continues to work but still will go down by itself. A year ago i had to replace the fuel tank, this was right after we took it in for inspection on a recall of smelling gas fumes while driving and possible corrosion in fuel lines.of course the fuel lines were not corroded so we were told. I footed the bill $800+ to get a new fuel tank ,as neck on tank was cracked and was told that this is why we smelled gas. Luckily, i went to my garage and saved several hundred dollars from the dealers cost to repair. Last weekend 9/10/10 my family was driving to town and the middle window unexpectedly dropped and now does not work. I researched an it seems to be a regulator issue and will cost around $500, wow! over the last two weeks there is a rattle when we turn on our ac. Again after we were in for service as we had the ac charged at the start of summer. I can see where i have the same troubles as a lot of others and feel, the same as they do, left holding the bag by gmc and no way out but, to look for a new/used vehicle and get rid of this vehicle.

My envoy xuv (8cyl) has engine trouble, which gmc says is normal. It occasionally has extremely rough idle, more times than not, it hesitates as if trying to decide if it'll stall out or not. Usually this happens when attempting to resume driving after sitting at a light or after other complete stop. I feel that this one day may get me rear ended or t-boned by another car. Sadly, i noticed this since the first day i drove it off the lot brand new.

I have a 2004 envoy xuv with a cracked exhaust manifold. My mechanic said he has seen a lot of these on the 4.2 and tells me it is due to bad design. Gmc won't fix it unless i give them about $1,000.00. Exhaust manifolds almost never cracked in the past. Please insist they help us like we helped them.

The consumers roof rack on the vehicle blew off whiledriving.the roof rack was hanging on the vehicle, the other hit the road andbounced on the turnpike.the driver saw the other vehicle swerving to miss the roof rack, but no accident occurred.the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired, but wanted to file a complaint first.*sc

While going approximately 60 mph the low beam headlights just go out with only the parking lights and fog lights working.also most of the gauges on the instrument panel do not work including the gas gauge. After some internet research many others are having these same issues.

Went to replace head light bulb to find out that i had to replace the wiring do to it was melted. The filler neck on the fuel tank is cracked, causing an evap leak in witchi found out through a garage and 5 diff. Salvage yards. And last, 6 diff. Times will driving i lost power will driving. I had to turn the ignition off, wait about 3 sec. Before it would start and go. The first time was in the middle of an intersection and the rest happened while on a regular road. I explained to my wife what to do if this happens to her and it did once, the others while i was driving.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc enclave xuv. The contact stated that while driving about 55 mph, the low beam lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure recurred four times while driving at various speeds. The dealer was not contacted. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was about 186,000.

Misfire was detected dealer code #p038. Dealer claim was a spark plug problem. Spark plugs and cables were replace. When i went to pick up the vehicle, the check engine light was on. Dealer technician claimed there is a prolblem with the tank that is leaking and needed to be replace. They stated the problem is on most of this new tanks. Just wonder if this a manufacturing problem since it can cause fire or explosion at any time on the road.

Fill fuel tank with fuel. Drive around. Smell gas odor when stopped/parked. Did not fix.

The contact owns a 2004 gmv envoy suv. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, fuel was seen leaking from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was advised to the contact that the inlet check vale needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.

Smell of gas inside of vehicle, check engine light on and notice of gas on garage floor. Took vehicle to a mechanic and found out that the gas tank was leaking around the neck of the tank where the refill hose connects. Found out that chevrolet and gmc had a special coverage adjustment # 07099a on this problem.i took my vehicle to the dealer and i was told that my vehicle is not covered on this sca because of the vin number. I called gmc customer service on recalls and i was told the same thing. The dealer agreed to pay 2/3's of the bill and i will have to pay 1/3 of it. On the sca sheet it list the following for my vehicle. The last 8 digits of the vin starting with 46100001 to 46116824. My vehicle is leaking so badly that i can smell gas inside of the vehicle all the time. It is very dangerous to drive. Also i park my vehicle in my garage all the time and this is dangerous. I think that all of the 2002 to 2004 chevrolet trail blazers and gmc envoys will have this problem with the leaking gas tanks. The problem is with the design of the tank. I was told by the service tech at the dealer that they use to have a lot of problems with the gas tanks. He said that since they have changed the tanks out on the covered vehicles that they have had none of the vehicles back in with leaking gas tanks. This is a big safety issue that needs to be corrected. Some people would not notice this problem and if they have an accident this could cause more injuries and possible deaths. This could also cause an explosion around sparks or static in someone's garage.

2004 gmc envoy , i received a recall notice for a fuel tank problem. It said do not bring the truck in if you don't smell gas. Now a year later i smell gas and the dealer told me the recall expired because of the mileage (195500).

My 2004 envoy xuv has fuel odor admittance and possibly leaking fuel.

Gas smell near rear of vehicle when parked, after driving.

My 2006 envoy xuv has fuel odor admittance and possibly leaking fuel.

A year after the purchase of my new 2004 gmc envoy xuv my service engine light came on and an authorized service tech said i needed a new gas cap because of a small vapor leak.i bought the new cap and a few months later the engine light came on and again i bought another cap.from then i had been told by different mechanics that the vapor leak is coming from the nozzle the cap attaches to but today for the first time i was told i would fail my smog check because the vapor leak according to their diagnostics was not coming from the nozzle, but somewhere else near the tank.after research on recalls and complaints, i found out that my problem was similar to other complaints, that being the gm service bulletin 05-06-04-014a: info - diagnostic aids for trouble codes p0440, p0455 & / or p0442 fuel was leaking from the crack, and that the 2002 - 2004 envoy may have issues with a crack in the gas tank filler neck as well.i checked out the assembly system and yep my filler tank connection from hose to tank is loose and showing evidence of gas leaking down the tank.it wasn't a small vapor leak, it is a mushroom cloud event just waiting to happen to my backside!the interesting part of this disaster is that they did this as far back as i could search, so far as early as 2001.gm had advised their mechanics that the problem was resolved and redesign of the system was in place with welded units attaching the components, rather than rubber booting to plastic tanks.i have the internal memo of their declarations for three years so far.today, i'm in possession of a loaded bomb and see that tsb's are issued for years through 2009. Plus theres a discrepancy with service warranties of 10 years or 120,000 miles vs 150,000, i have those internal documents from gm to the dealers as well. I cant afford this. Other envoy owners i've talked to are saying the same things exactly.

Vehicle has had strong odor or raw fuel coming from driving side wheel well.had mechanic check this out and i was told this has a fuel leak near the fuel filter / filler neck and possible gas tank issue which is close to the exhaust pipe.this is a known issue from gm owners but recall has not been advised.informed gm of issue on 10/26 but they will not fix.this will cost upwards of $1100-$1600 to fix.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv.on september 3, 2007, the check engine light illuminated and the contact smelled gas fumes in the passenger compartment.he discovered a small fuel leak coming from the neck of the fuel tank.the dealer stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty due to the mileage, therefore they could not provide any assistance.the purchase date was unavailable.the current mileage was 45,200 and failure mileage was 45,100. Updated 10/09/07

The "service engine soon" warning light has illuminated approximately five or six times (about one-two months between occurrences) since january 2008. Every time i read the codes, it came up as p0442.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy.the vehicle was purchased on september 29, 2004 and the mileage was 90.on march 27,2007tightened gas cap light came on.on march 30, 2007 the dealer stated that there was a leak coming from the neck hose connected to the gas tank and the fuel pump.the dealerstated that the gas tank had to be replaced. The contact was concerned about the safety risk involved considering the year of the vehicle.the failure mileage was 38,200, and the current mileage was 39,600.

Took vehicle in for inspection and check engine soon light was on.a code p0455 was found which means a large gas leak.it was discovered that the gas leak from the gas tank seal where the filler neck hose attaches.repair is replace fuel tank as the filler neck is built into the gas tank.

Speedometer don't work, gas gauge don't work, transmission is going outetc and i only had the vehicle for 9 months now but the problems have been for along time.

About 9-10 months ago started noticing a fuel smell around back of truck. Replaced gas cap, but the odor continued. Inquired at local dealer, but was told they could not determine the cause. Tried a local mechanic that i had used before, but at that time, they claimed they found no cause either. On my third trip to local mechanic, was informed that there is a crack in my filler/gas tank causing the smell. Finally they found the cause only to inform me that now my truck is beyond the mileage and/or date of the 'recall' that i was never informed about by gmc about my gas tank, and it will only cost "about" $1200 to replace my gas tank. I've resided in the same home well longer than i've owned my truck, so my home address, phone number and email are all still the same as they were then, and had no notification that their was any type of recall on my truck. Have tried emailing and snail mailing gmc on many numerous occasions to see if i could get any help with the unknown of recall, but have yet to receive any answer what's so ever from them at all. Obviously, if i had the disposable income, i would not be pursuing another solution, but like many, i continue to live paycheck to paycheck and my truck is the main lifeline to maintain what little i can provide. If you could pass along any information about possible recall assistance i can receive, it would be greatly appreciated.thank you

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv.the contact stated that the fuel was leaking underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 123,000.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv. While driving, the contact smelled fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel pump was corroded and the odor was a result of a fuel leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.

After refueling the vehicle, a strong odor of gasoline was present and the "service vehicle soon" light was lit.using the on-star vehicle diagnostic service, the diagnostic code indicated a fuel system leak or loose gas cap. However, upon inspecting the vehicle it was found that the fuel tank inlet check valve, which is part of the fuel tank, was fractured and leaking fuel.in checking with gmc, there was an existingnhtsa action number: pe07014 concerning this defect for my make/model/year vehicle.a gmc special coverage policy extension (07099a)was also in effect since 2007 for 10 years or 150,000 miles to effectively repair this known fuel tank defect.this repair involves a complete replacement of the fuel tank. However, gmc refused to replace the fuel tank and cover the cost of repair because my vin number was not in the listed range. In trying to repair the vehicle it was found that these fuel tanks are on backorder from gm as i suspect many gmc envoy owners are now becoming aware of this serious defect and were not informed at the initial recall because like my vehicle, they were not on the vin number coverage list. Obviously the gm vin number range for this defect is incorrect and should be expanded to cover all known 2002-2004 envoy, envoy xl and envoy xuv model vehicles.the cost of repair was over $1400. Gmc is the only source for this fuel tank as there are no other oem vendors.this is a dangerous defect of which i believe many gmc envoy owners are not aware of and can lead to explosion and serious injury if left undetected.gmc needs to re-evaluate the vin number ranges and notify all make/model/year owners immediately to check for fuel tank leakage and if necessary, cover the cost of replacement and repair. I have saved the fuel tank and repair receipts and can supply pictures of the defect if required/requested.

Started smelling gas, started dripping fuel.after investigating the fuel lines coming out of the fuel pump were severely corroded at the top of the gas tank.dripping gas could have caught fire.learned there was a tsb on this and extended warrenty due to corrosion of fuel lines.the warrenty was for 10 years or 150k.the vehicle is now 11 years old.i have lived in the same house for eight years and never received a recall or tsb notice from gmc.over 800$ for a new fuel pump and to drop gas tank for repairs.while the vehicle is a 2004 it only has 67k on it.

I was doing a rear brake job and smelled gasoline, so i went under the vehicle and observed there was a wet spot on the rear of the fuel tank. Upon closer examination i found the inlet part of the fuel tank was broken and allowing fuel to exit the tank, can we say fire risk, so i went online to try to purchase a replacement tank and i found where several people had had this sameproblem, but no recall is in place ?????

The drop gate actuator stopped working. The gate wont open.

1) fobs stopped working and had to be reprogrammed2) tailgate switches stopped working both at the same time 3) speedometer stopped reading accurately when the vehicle was driven in the rearing or had the underbody sprayed while washing.

While sitting in a drive through window at a restaurant with the vehicle in drive two men entered the rear of the vehicle, shot the consumer, and took the vehicle.consumer was concernedas to how the men entered therear of vehicle sincethe vehicle was in gear, andall doors were suppose to be secured.after receiving the vehicle back dealer made the necessary repairs, and told the consumer that the automatic locks were programmed by the consumer, even though the manual stated they were programmed from the factory.consumer programmed the locks, and they worked for three days.then, consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, and they programmed the locks.it lasted for three weeks, and then changed again, allowing the rear locks to allow entry when the vehicle was in gear.this process continues, and the vehicle locks were still defective.

At this point i would not recommend gmc to anyone or buy another! help

I washed my envoy at a car wash by hand i wanted to see if the sells man was right about you can wash the inside of the truck when i finished the back hatch would not close it took an hour till it dried to close.then it rained and i had to open the back gate and it would't close i took it to the dealer right away and they replaced the electical parts because they said they hung down to low and got wet then when i picked up my envoy the back window would go down with the key but would'nt go back up so i went in and asked about that he said that is one thing we did not order a part for so you will have to come back when we get that part in. Now after everything has been replaced i had problems again this time it was cold not raining iam taking it back on thursday to see what has went wrong.

Shifter cable bushing became disengaged from the transmission.shifter lever floated freely through gears.when engine stopped, it would not go into park but remained in neutral and began freely rolling backwards in my driveway.emergency brake had to be used to stop the car.i understand this is a fairly common problem with this make of vehicle.this part should be recalled.

Car will not engage in park position.car will roll forward or backwards causing safety concerns of injury or another person or car.

Speedometer don't work, gas gauge don't work, transmission is going outetc and i only had the vehicle for 9 months now but the problems have been for along time.

Traveling on the interstate at 60 mph transmission shifted gears via cruise control and the transmission lost 3rd and 4th gears. When contacting onstar 3 different times they insisted it was safe to drive. Then the whole transmission died.

The gears in the front differential got damaged at 41,000 miles. Had to replace the gears.

2004 envoy driver side seat belt will not release.the consumer had great difficulty trying to get the seat belt to release from the retractor.

My 2004 gmc envoy xuv had at least 12 failures to stop. This issue began occurringas soon as i bought it new in 2005. Description of the issue: 1. While applying brakes, brake pedal becomes soft for a period of time (shortest 1 second, longest 3-4 seconds) causing failure to stop. 2. Issue is very intermittent and occurs at any traveling speeds (example: 75 mph, 15 mph)... What was done: 1. First complaint to service department in 2005: no issues found.2ndcomplaint at 2005: dealer replaced brake booster. 3rd complaint in jun 2006: dealer replaced brake booster again.conclusion: since this issue is very intermittent and i do not drive this vehicle very often, it may take some time to verify the fix. I do not feel safe to drive this suv.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv. While driving 35 mph the power steering pump failed causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer will be contacted at a later time. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,900.

The rear tailgate is not operating at all.it will not latch closed, it swings down on its own.it is currently being held in the latched position by a ratchet strap.it has also swung open on its own, while it was still latching properly and the rear window has dropped itself on its own.

The drop gate actuator stopped working. The gate wont open.

- the contactowns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv.the contact stated that the plastic trim molding on the top and in the rear of the vehicle which protects the retractable roof filledup with snow whichchangedinto ice, and when the ice began to melt it expandedand high movement of the vehicle caused the vehicle's trim molding to rip apart.it brokethe clips ,and pulledit right off the car.the contact stated that the more water and icewere on the vehicle the higher the speed traveled, andthe more the trim ripped apart. The trim molding was held on by plastic clips.the failure and current mileage were both 53,000.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xuv. While attempting to utilize the liftgate, it failed to operate. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

End gate would not swing open. Glass lowers. Endgate opens flat. Emergency button does not work either.since you can not swing open the endgate you can not access the hoist drive shaft hole to allow the underbody-mounted spare tire to be lowered. Gmc dealer service tech diagnosed open in tailgate end switch. Replaced tailgate end switch on 2/21/2008.

My 2004 envoy xuv rear tailgate has 2 broken releases in it.as you may already know, the only way to access the rear enclosed part of this vehicle is through the rear door, if there is no rear access, then you cannot get what is in the rear of the vehicle out.in my case, a dog was trapped in the back with no way of getting outthe midgate window in the middle of the vehicle is too small to get the dog out.this is a serious issue and could cause many problems as even if there was a access to the rear through the center midgate, some objects could get placed in the rear area that are too large to remove via the midgate and side doors and if the rear tailgate cannot be opened, the objects will never be removed.

Dt: the tailgate interlock failed. The tailgate could have fallen off. It was dangling on 1 hinge. *sb

I have a 2004 suv xlt. I bought my car with 400 miles on it. I had the gas tank replaced early on. Went back to gmc b/c they had not installed it properly. Dt: the contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The contact states that the dealership had to replace the front sway bar links. The first time it was replaced was at 24,712 miles.currently,at 33, 700 the sway bar link pin noise recurred.the contact was taking the vehicle backagain to the dealer.

I have speedometer problems with my 2004 suv envoy xuv and i am believe this to be more of a recall problem than just bad luck and my hear shift in the truck is going out "the electronic acutator," all of this is just unreal with these car and trucks having these type malfunction and the make does not want to honor the repairs. I have never in my many of cars along with family member had auto repair such as this. I can't wait to got back to a foreign and i will never buy another gmc again. Gmc said thy would get the deal to help with half the repair, but the deal here changed names and management from millsaps to teeams auto.these cars cost way too much for things like this to go wrong. I want to voice my opinion about to an organization that will at least read about it.the consumer has to pay way to much for something they already paid for.my truck is rolling miles that i am not really driving and this is sad.i made the mistake of getting this truck used and that was a terrible mistake especially when the maker does not car enough about the consumer to make it right. This is probably some of the problems with the economy now and that the little man has to pay the cost because the money makers will not honor right with the consumers, you can't cheat people and/or be dishonest and think it will not come back to you. I have not had performance failure, but i am concern about my safety with such problems as gear shift electronic actuator failing.

I purchased a new 2004 envoy xuv from rally gmc in palmdale, ca(purchased in january 2004). At about 74000 miles (2000 miles after extended warranty expired), the speedometer started registering 45mph, regardless of what speed i was actually going. In addition, it now jumps from speed to speed in 5mph increments.i discovered this while driving from la to dallas on the interstate at freeway speeds in early december 2006.i originally thought it was because it was cold outside, and a sensor had ice on it.but after it warmed up and i found myself going about 80-90mph, while the speedometer registered 45mph, i realized the speedo had failed.i pulled the icu fuse and the speedometer reset and started acting ok for the rest of the trip. It faulted again about a week later and has never worked right since. Rally chevrolet/gmc in palmdale ca quoted me a price of $600.00 plus to fix it, plus an indefinite time in the shop.

2004 gmc envoy instrument cluster, speedometer sticks at 60 mph,gas guage does not work, warning lights come on and stay on until you stop and restart and then ,most of the time they go back to normal

The spedometer would stick at various speeds and drop back to normal when the vehicle is started. Now it permantely stuck at 120 mph.

In the process of making a left turn, (dead end - no oncoming traffic) the vehicle failed to get up to speed after depressing the accelerator in order to make the turn. A warning light came on that had never been seen before; it was the "reduced engine power" light along with the "service engine soon" light. The way was clear to put the vehicle in reverse and back into a gas station. A prayer was said before continuing on to the destination at hand with a trip to the dealership in the am. The vehicle was tested at the dealership with the "foundcode" p1680..gas pedal shorting out. Pedal was replaced, retested, and approved without a recurrence of the code. Two months have passed without a recurrence so far. The total cost was $191.85. Thank god it didn't cost a life! the old part is available; teleflex 15187573g03302 2360-133143 passed made in mexico 400421could not allow this to happen again or to others; repaired immediately due to dangerous to fatal consequences if turning left in front of an oncoming semi. This complaint is to inform others of a potentially dangerous situation regarding their gas pedal.

While going approximately 60 mph the low beam headlights just go out with only the parking lights and fog lights working.also most of the gauges on the instrument panel do not work including the gas gauge. After some internet research many others are having these same issues.

2004 gmc envoy. Sudden momentary engine surge. Occurred at low speed with foot on brake pedal. Six occurrences , four within last few months. Gm dealer checked said all systems were ok, gm corporate notified said no history this type of failure. When surge happened quick shift into neutral prevented damage. Engine surge lasted only a few seconds and then returned to normal. Since problem is intermittent gm offers no help other than bring it back to dealer for recheck.

2004 gmc envoy speedometer slows down to zero at highway speeds.

About a year ago, my back window would sometimes just go down.after about a month the window motor started running and running trying to put the window up, although it wouldn't go up.took it to the dealer and 700 miles over the warranty...wouldn't cover it, so $400 to repair the regulator.now, the mid window is down and won't work.the quote for this is $500.after reading other complaints on this same issue - gm should supply the regulator at no cost.some peoples windows have actually exploded....now that sounds dangerous.

Closed rear door on back of 2004 gmc envoy xuv and then started to drive the car.put on the rear defroster and the rear windshield wiper and the rear window shattered within 30 secs.

Gmc dealer service tech found the wire to rear defroster corroded and broken.repaired wiring.

While traveling on interstate 90 at 75 miles per hour, the rear tailgate glass implode into the passenger compartment for no apparent reason. Nothing had come in contact with the rear glass, nor where there any other vehicles in the area at the time to have caused this the glass was sprayed all around in the pack compartment of the vehicle. *la

Closed rear door on back of 2004 gmc envoy xuv and then started to drive the car.put on the rear defroster and the rear windshield wiper and the rear window shattered within 30 secs.

While the vehicle was parked, the rear passenger glass exploded. The temperature was not hot outside, 68 degrees. There was no one in the vehicle at the time.the consumers wife heard a sound like a water balloon had just been popped. The consumer stated nothing hit the vehicle. The vehicle was parked in the consumers drive way.

End gate window regulator failure.no replacement part available.

On 3 separate occasions sun roof stuck in an open position.dealership replaced the sun roof motor.this provided a temporary solution. Also, at 6,000 miles, severe and uncontrollable vibration occurred in the entire body of the vehicle when the rear windows were opened.vibration occurred when the vehicle's speedexceeded 55 mph. Dealership representative indicated after test driving the vehicle that the vibration was normal, and only one rear window should be opened at a time.consumer felt the vibration was caused by a design flaw in the rear windows.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy.it has two bucket seats and a second row bench seat and a trunk that is separated by a panel with a glass inside the panel.i guess i have rolled this window down 5 times since i have owned it and now the glass will not roll up or down.i took it to a shop and they said the part (regulator) is on back order from gm.this means only one thing that they have had nothing but problems with it.i called the dealer i purchased the vehicle and of course they honor nothing and in fact had sold out and did not know where my papers were at on the vehicle.this was the reason it took me 34 years to purchase another gm vehicle.i got burned as a green kid out of college with my first job and purchased a gm and got screwed by the sales person in the checkered coat.go figure.on top of all this, the radio face has turned from black to yellow as the paint of all things has started coming off of the radio.why was the plastic not molded black plastic instead of yellow plastic and painted.dealer said it was not under warranty as it was past the miles.well that stinks as i had the truck less than a year at that point.i travel a lot in my job and put a lot of miles on the vehicle, but that should not have anything to do with the radio or window regulator.what can i do?
