Road conditions were icy ,car suddenly lost control and slammed into a utility pole. Neither driver side or passenger side airbag deployed.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact was traveling 55 mph when an unknown part fractured from under the vehicle, causing the contact to lose control. The vehicle proceeded to roll over three times into a ditch. The contact and one passenger were able to crawl from the vehicle following the crash. The crash shattered the windshield and caused several injuries to the vehicle occupants. The vehicle was destroyed. The air bags did not deploy. The police stated that they were surprised that the occupants survived the crash with the failure of the air bags and the condition of the vehicle. A police report was available. The failure and current mileage was 118,700.

The electrical component for the airbag sensor is located under the drink cup holder.. Due to the location of the sensor the sensor gets wet and creates a safety issue by not deploying the air bags when needed..i took my car in to the gmc dealer and was told it was not a recall issue, i was shocked because the mechanic told me it was a safety issue and they had a lot of these issues but gmc decided it was not a safety recallissue..

The airbag warning light would come on immediately as the car was started(and occasionally the seatbelt warning light) and remain on, especially when it is cold outside.occasionally the light would go off when the car got very warm.my understanding is when the warning light is on the airbags will not deploy.this is a big safety issue as this car is used by my childrenthe sensing and diagnostic module(sdm) was found to be defective and needed to be replaced.the old part is available.it seems that this is a part that the manufacturer (gm) should be responsible for since this is not a part that requires owner maintenance and is critical to the car's safety.

Due to the check engine light constantly coming on i was told that i needed a new gas cap. It was stated if the cap is not on properly it affects the emission controls. I have replaced the gas cap several times nothing has changed engine light goes on and off. There still has not been accurate justification for this matter. Vehicle has faulty / leaking air bags on the rear suspension.upon research this has been a problem on gmc vehicles from 1994 ~ 2006. Why are there no recalls?gmc envoy vehicle are sitting very low during freezing temperatures. Upon starting the vehicle it will raise back up and level itself but it should not drop down low period. Websites are flooded with complaints. I have contacted gmc regarding all these issues and nothing has been done. I was told there were no recalls regarding these matters which i don't understand. I have viewed so many complaints on several websites regarding these same issues. Exterior lights~ lamps have faulty sockets due to moisture getting inside the lamps / back up lamps. Bulbs burning out continuously. Unfortunately when you take your vehicle to a frequent dealer, many times they'll step outside to check your vehicle quickly without putting you in the system if they feel no service is required. I believe this may be why these complaints are not being addressed/ reported / or recorded. It is apparent there are serious problems with these vehicles. Something needs to be done, and we should not have to deal with repeat manufacturer defects/hazards year after year. It is not fair to us (the customer). They can continually contact you to trade in your vehicle or buy it, but they can't contact you regarding defects on the vehicle. I was told they only notify the original owner of recalls. Again they'll contact you regarding marketing and advertising. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

A car hit me head on doing 50 mph. My air bags never deployed.

Four vehicle accident, #three vehicle in line from the front. Traveling at postedspeed limit of 60mph. Sudden hard braking, hit in the front & rear of the vehicle, vehicle was considered a total right off. No air bag deployment on driveror passenger in front seat! rush hour traffic on four lane st. Hwy., dfw,tx. March of 2014.

The speedometer on the 2004 gmc envoy is inoperative and is stuck in the 120 mph position.for about one month before, the needle was very erratic and jumped around, sometimes from 10 mph to up to 30 mph.during the erratic phase, i took the vehicle to the dealer and they said they did not notice a problem.i have not taken any steps to fix it now that it is stuck at 120 mph because the vehicle is out of warranty and the dealership will not cover the cost.

Passenger window went down with vehicle off. Smoke came from inside the right front door panel. When the smoke cleared, i disassembled the door and found the window switch with a large hole burned in it. Pics available upon request.

Dash gauges/ first the oil level gauge died, then the speedometer started acting up, it will say your going 200 mph, when your standing still...then the speakers and the radio started acting up, work, don't work...really concerned about speedometer, and if other gauges will follow suit.

Speedometer began acting up a few months ago and now it's constantly acting up.sometimes it shows me going faster than actual and sometimes it shows me going slower than actual and sometimes it just sits below zero and doesn't move at all.now the oil pressure gauge stopped working.it reads all the way past 80 and doesn't even move when i turn the vehicle off.i do not trust any of my gauges now.i cannot be assured that any of them are reading correctly.

We were just driving down the road when the speedometer suddenly read 120 mph. We were driving about 40 mph. The speedometer is now stuck at that position, 120 mph.

For the last few months the check engine light would come on and go off after a few days; we took it to our mechanic who ran a diagnostic and they said there is nothing wrong, probably a faulty sensor, not harmful.so, last night while driving, using cruise control and on the interstate my speedometer stopped working.when i came to a stop at an exit i noticed the speedometer was reading 42 mph but i was at a complete stop.i do not even want to imagine what might have happened should it have begun to work while i was doing 60+mph while on cruise control!!! this is extremely dangerous!so i came home and did some research to see if this is a known issue with my 2004 gmc envoy xl and low and behold this is an issue to all gmc suvs from 2002-2005!i am disgusted at the information i found that states gmc isn't willing to take ownership of the recall/repair when this is already a known issue!!please act on this with due diligence and recall this faulty instrument panel before someone gets hurt or worse!!!!

While driving interstate 80 in nebraska during the month of december 2009, the speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy got stuck on 70 mph. I had no idea how fast i was going and it was very dangerous driving while not knowing how fast i was going in construction zones and the roads were very snow and ice packed.since december, i have purchased a gps with a speedometer. I do not want to pay to get this fixed because i feel this is a safety issue and gm should issue a recall. There are times the speedometer will work, then for no apparent reason while driving down the highway it will get stuck.

I purchased this vehicle 10 months ago and have to replace the headlights 9 seperate times not including the brake lights 5 times. After the 3rd time the man at the auto parts store stated this is a known problem with gmc> the lights get too hot and burn up the bulb and the connectors. I have had 2 buy now 4 rabbits connectors and they make the bulb last a little longer but the exspense is sad. If this is a known problem and it is posted all over the interent from customers with the same issues why has not recall beem placed for these lights. If it is heating hot enough to melt a connector that is a fire hazard and needs to be recalled. Now my speedometer stoped working and to my surprise i wass advised this also a common gmc problem with the cluster repair being required to fix it.

Speedometer and tachometer quit working.

Driving down the road our speedometer went haywire and then quit working.i called gmc and they said our vehicle is not covered under the current vehicles that are covered and that our vehicle has not been reported as a vehicle experiencing difficulties.we own a gmc 2004 envoy xl.

Instrument cluster was repaired by a local repair person who's been making a living repairing these gauges and clusters for 10 years now.my gauges would fluctuate all over the place and my fuel gauge tells me i have 100+ miles left in the tank and then i run out of gas.even with the gauges repaired, i still have a faulty fuel sending unit or something that has my "estimated mileage to empty" all over the board.it shows me at 85 miles to empty when i park it, but start it back up and it goes to 140, or sometimes tips me off that it's actually low on fuel.i'm frustrated, can't seem to get any straight answers from anyone.

No heat in rear of envoy gmc has no repair.

04/12/2009 the speedometer jumped to 110 mph while only driving about 25 mph. Turn the car off and it stayed at 110. Turn on again and while drive about forty mph it shows 150 ish. Call the dealer and replacement is over $400 to replace the part (assuming that this is the fix). Extensive research and the amount of complaints on this site, this is a rather large problem that has effected a large quantity of gm owners. This seems to be a defective part that happens generally right after the warranty runs out. Go figure.

Speedometer is acting erratically.

Speedometer stuck at 54 mph, regardless of speed.moved to 95 mph and stuck there.moved to 120 mph and stuck there.moved back to 95 mph and stuck there.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that the instrument panel was inoperable and worked intermittently. He was unable to determine how fast he was traveling and how much gasoline was in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer offered no assistance. The contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current mileage was 60,000 and the failure mileage was 45,000.

Speedometer quick working. Dealer diagnosed instrument cluster failure.repair estimate for parts and labor in excess of $600. Potential loss of all gauges while driving prior to repair.

Driving at a low speed down hill on a city street, with the car in the drive position, the car stalled. This happened again driving on a flat service of a parking lot of a shopping center. Again, with the car in the drive position going at a low speed the car stalled.

My 2004 gmc envoys speedo is not working correctly.the fuel gauge is acting up too.

I had to have the instrument cluster replaced for a faulty speedometer.

Speedometer stopped working properly.$500 to replace. Gm will not help, even though they are aware of the defective units that are on the streets.they have recall on pickup trucks for same problem.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl.the contact stated that the interior lighting on the front driver?s side door would dim and illuminate intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified.the approximate failure mileage was 99,700.updated 8/12/14the consumer believed there was a short in the wiring.updated 09/23/14

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. While driving approximately 30 mph the instrument panel cluster failed to function properly. He stated that the speedometer and fuel gauges would shut on and off at times.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the instrument panel cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact referenced recall 03v096000, electrical system wiring, interior/under dash and was advised that this was for the 2002 model year.the vin was unavailable. Then failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

Long term problem with the instrument cluster that grew much worse at the beginning of this year.i'm the original owner and the vehicle currently has less than 88k miles on it.back in 2010 the tachometer stopped functioning properly.at idle, it was reading 5000-6000 rpm.kept watching the tach over months and it was all over the place until the needle finally rested at the 6 o'clock position.wasn't a big deal.early this year (2013), other gauges started reading improperly.one by one the oil pressure, speedometer, and fuel gauge all went haywire, showing readings outside of their range.the only two functional gauges left were voltage and coolant temperature when i had the entire instrument cluster replaced back in marchthe cluster is a common problem.there's a thread at edmunds.com with over 500 posts related to it:http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx?14@@.f17ba01/0didn't happen to me because i was watching all the gauges closely, but i'd hate to see someone run out of gas in the middle of nowhere because of a faulty fuel gauge.

The rpm (tac) failed and started jumping all over. On 09-14-14 the speedometer started to fail. Did not fix the rpm (tac) at the time. This apparently is an on going problem with these years in the gmc product. Is it a safety issue - yes!!! one now cannot tell ones speed which could cause an accident or a citation to the driver because of this problem. To fix this instrument cluster will be in the $600.00 range. I believe gmc was well aware of this problem in the past years and ignored it - causing owners an undue expense on a vehicle that they paid thousands of dollars for. We bought this vehicle new and have had gmc vehicles for years - unless gmc stands up and takes responsibility i will not consider another gm product. The air conditional line failed in 2014 because of it rubbing on the frame causing me to shut off the rear air conditioner because of the cost to fix it. Gm not allowing aftermarket parts for this fix.

I picked up my kids and niece from school and was visiting at my brothers house for a few hours (3 to be exact) when my kids and i went to leave my rear window was shattered. I filed a police report and the officer could not see any reason for my window to shatter like it did.

Electrical problems.i have had both rear tailgate sensors go out at the same time.i have the speedometer acting erratically off and on off and on.i have had the starter switch go out twice.

2004 envoy, 81,300 miles. Fuel gauge and speedometer not working or when they do it is very erratic and unreliable. On a trip through min i noticed the gauge said i was going 70 mph in 45 zone.then ran out of gas on another trip not realizing the fuel gauge was also not functioning correctly. At this point i use my garmin for determining speed.looking to get it fixed but was estimated the cost for new instrument cluster panel would be $600.

After getting an oil change the technician went to pull the car out of the bay and the car just died.it appeared first that the battery may have died.there was no power at all.next after letting the vehicle sit for a minute we attempted to turn on the ignition and all the gauges went crazy, registering as if i was driving.then as in the another complaint, upon attempting to start the vehicle, all the dash board warning lights and turn signal indicators came on and stayed on. All the gauges started acting erratically and all the needle indicators started jumping at random. The next time i tried to start the vehicle again the vehicle did the very same thing as mentioned above (gauges acting erratically, etc.). I attempted to start the vehicle several more time each time with the same result. Prior to this experience the oil gauge had stop registering and had malfunction about one year earlier. After my favorite mechanic came to rescue me hot wired the fuse box to allow for me to drive the vehicle home.he said that the fuses were not getting the 12 volts need to operate the vehicle.i'm now waiting on the diagnosis.

Our vehicle has a speedometer that intermittently reads many mph over the actual speed. The internet forum that referred us here has many people with the same trouble. The dealer does not have our make of vehicle on the letter that covers this issues on many other makes.

Bought my 2004 gmc envoy in may 2009.after about a month and a half of driving it, all dash gauges started working intermittently, and the warning bell would go off, and all warning lights started flashing.shortly after that began, all gauges quit working all together every other time i would start the vehicle.took the vehicle in for repair, they replaced ignition switch and half way home from the repair shop, it all started over again. Been doing it ever since.

We have had numerous electrical problems with the envoy, but i am writing about the instrument cluster panel. The failure of the panel caused the speedometer to fail. The speedometer registers over 120 mph regardless of the speed of the vehicle, or whether the vehicle is turned off or on. The mechanic who investigated the issue stated that there were numerous diagnostic errors that had to be corrected before he could successfully diagnose the bad instrument cluster. This is a known issue with the envoy, gmc will not accept responsibility and the failed instrument panel can result in accidents.

In the spring of 2009, we began noticing problems with the instrument panel and electrical system of our 2004 gmc envoy xl.the speedometer was not consistent.the gas gauge became unreliable.we have also seen problems with the oil gauge and most recently the reading for the exterior temperature.currently, it has been almost a year since the start of the problems, and the gas gauge, speedometer, and the exterior temperature readout are never correct.we contacted the gmc dealer where we bought the vehicle and were told that several complaints had been logged regarding similar issues with these vehicles and that the problem was the instrument panel cluster.i believe the cost to have it fixed was going to be $400-$500.if so many of these vehicles are having the same problem, why will gmc not issue a recall and have this problem fixed?

Was park, went to back up and felt like there was no power steering. Ps fluid is good, belt is good, pulley seems fine, no leaks, but very hard to steer. This 2004 gmc envoy has been nothing but a headache....not to mention the speedometer doesn't work properly either.

In december 2009 my 2004 envoy xl's tachometer went off line.it starts at about the 3 o'clock position.then a month later the odometer stuck at about 40 miles per hour even though i was stopped or obviously doing over 40.when the vehicle is turned off and restarted it corrected itself but was erratic and would tick its way up to about 40-50mph then would stop going up.this has been an ongoing problem with many 2004 envoys.the dealer said it was a instrument panel problem and that they would have to replace it at a cost of around $500.00this is a serious safety problem.when reducing speed to accommodate a curve that recommends a reduced speed i can not tell what my actual speed is to safely make the curve.speed limits are posted for safety reasons and if we cant tell how fast we are going do to a faulty instrument panels it puts people in danger.dealers and gmc seem to know about it and have not yet recalled the vehicles to correct the safety problem not to mention that $500.00 is a lot of money for most people to have to pay for a safety problem that the manufacture should be fixing.

My gmc envoy was parked unattended in my driveway directly next to my house. My sons and i were in the backyard playing when my oldest son went to retrieve his ball from the driveway. He came back screaming mom your truck is on fire.i immediately ran over to see the truck full of fire and smoke. I called 911.the truck damage was already done before the firefighters arrived. It appeared to come from the driver side window area. After doing some research i learned a lot of gmc trucks had recalls on certain parts that could put the vehicle at risk for a for setting it's self on fire.i never received any information on recalls for the window switch or was aware of the national recall until i looked into it the evening of the fire.i strongly believe the window switch is what caused the fire. It had to be a defective product made by the manufacturing company.

Envoy not shifting properly, sounds like it is dragging, had it checked out, the dealer could not replicateproblem. Now when the difficulty starts the abs light, the brake and emergency brake light along with the 4wd light all come on, the blowers do not function when all the warning lights are on, nor does theair conditioning and or cruise control. I took it back to the dealership with all the problems active, initially they told me that it had 43,000 miles, it was out of warranty, but then a pi report suddenly came out so we will see if i end up paying. They did tell me however that they have a trail blazer in with the exact same problem and it took them 8 days to figure it out and that i would not be getting a loaner since i am out of warranty. I should also mention that the computer was replaced at 27,000 miles.

Speedometer went completely out while driving a few months back, though it will jump around from time to time.

The cluster in my car has gone out and my speedometer is no longer working up on taking it to the dealership i was informed that this is a common problem in the envoy. They stated the at least received 4 to 5 vehicles a day with the same problems.

I was driving and my vehicle on i-985 hall county ga. My check gage light came on and less than 1/2 of a mile it start to smoke and burn as soon as i stopped turned of the ignition. It burnt to the ground from the engine area to the inside.

During normal driving conditions and with no warning both the speedometer and tachometertopped out and have not worked since.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact noticed that the instrument panel failed. The dealer and manufacturer were notified but both offered no assistance. The vehicle was being repaired by an authorized dealer. The current and failure mileages were approximately 78,000.

My 2004 gmc envoy speedometer and gas gauge has gone bad.it will not zero out and operates erratically.

2004 gmac envoy - the speedometer is erratic. When you drive down road, it is all over the place. I went to dealership and they said no recall. I would have to buy a new cluster - $600 plus labor! interesting there are 4 other people i know that own gm suvs and they are all doing it as well. I have since replaced the cluster and that has fixed but with all the people in my little circle. There is a overall problem with the gm/gmac cars. This could be dangerous and expensive for the consumer.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy that the instrument cluster went bad on and the dealer want $900.00 torepair. On the internet that there are alot of gmc suv's with the same problem. I, as well, have been fighting with gm for replacement of the instrument panel on my 2004 envoy. The car had 48k miles on it when the problem started, but it had 56k when it was taken to the dealership. It was required that i have the problem officially diagnosed, which cost me $85. I was assured that i would get that amount credited toward the fix. Scheduled to get yet another update call from gm tomorrow. Shortly after i paid out the $85 and sent them my information, i received both an email and a phone call saying "sorry, we can't offer any assistance". I called them right back to escalate it further. I'm pushing it as far as i can. The representative told me that there haven't been enough complaints with the envoys yet, although she admitted that there have been a lot, and because of this obvious problem, the cases would be handled on an individual basis at this point. What more proof do we need?

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl.the contact stated that the fuel gauge and speedometer would fluctuate abnormally when driving over 60mph.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they were unable determine the failure and the vehicle was not repaired.updated 06/17/11*ljupdated 06/27/11

Speedometer works sporatically.even when the truck is stopped its reading that i'm doing 50 miles per hour.2004 gmc envoy.

Approximately 1 1/2 months ago my speedometer went out on my gmc 2004 envoy.i went to the dealership and the person helping me said that they get alot of repair requests for the speedometers going out on the gmc's.so i stated if this is an often occurrence it appears to me that it should be a national recall being that this seems to occur alot.when i got home i went on line to pull the reviews and to see what others were talking about.that is when i noticed that a i was not the only customer with this problem.also, when i went onto my iphone application to see if i could find anything that could assist me being that i was going out of town i found an application and one of the people posting a review was a guy who was out of town and his speedometer went out and he too was able to findthe same speedometer that i had to use in order for him to get back to where he was going.as a customer i feel that if this is a problem that is occurring at the 35,000-45,000 mark of these vehicles then it should be the responsibility of the manufacturer to make good on this malfunction.my car is not quite 5 years and i only have approximately 42,500 miles on my truck.

Not sure when as it has been a while. The odometer stopped working and i have filed this online a couple of times but never heard back and i have contacted gmc several times and they said they are fully aware of it as they have had several calls regarding it and it is anywhere from 300.00 to 600.00 to fix it and it could take a couple of days. To me that is not ok. As much as i paid for my vehicle it should not do this. If gmc is aware of it they should have contacted you guys and a notice should have been sent as i have been researching online and i see several complaints about this issue with peoples envoys and they get the same uncaring response from gmc. To me that is a problem,.

Erratic speedometer operation, we took it in to in to be checked and they said it needed a new cluster, also while it was there i had them check the 4wd service light which came on erratically and they said it also needed a new module.this is for a 2004 gmc envoy with 64,984 miles.no extended warranty so we had to pay for the all the work done.the day i had it checked out the service rep did say there were problems with a certain year and if we had the right year and vehicle and if it was under 70,000 miles they would replace it for free.when we came back a couple days later to have the work done he said after i asked him it was for a silverado not sure if he said 2003 or 2004 but not for our vehicle..... I am very disappointed after 40 years of buying gm vehicles that gm didn't take care or help take care of the cost of these problems.

The speedometer quit working correctly, when i first noticed it my speedometer said i was going 120mph and i was in town in a 35mph zone.i had my gps device on and it showed that i was actually going 35mph.after stopping at a stop light the speedometer stated that i was still traveling at a speed of 75 mph, and that was incorrect because i was sitting still at the light.also, after turning off the vehicle it still registered a rate of speed of 75 mph.there are some days that the speedometer works for a while and then it goes crazy.another example, it sometimes shows that i am going at a rate of speed of 0 mph and i know that i am at least going 55 mph.this is completely unsafe.upon contacting the gm service center they stated they thought it might be the instrument cluster needing replaced, but if that would be the case the other gauges would not work properly.so far the only thing that is messed up is the speedometer.i have not been able to correct the failure as the service center told me over the phone that it would cost me around $300.00 or more and they want to replace the entire instrument panel, which in my opinion does not need replaced....only the speedometer needs replaced/repaired.

Engine, check gadges light appears, suv stalls, radio lights and steering lights keeps failing.i have taken my 04 envoyxl into the dealership over 7 times for the same problem in which they have not yet been able to fix/resolve.my envoyxl check engine and check gadges lights keep popping on and the vehicle continues to cut off/stall the dealership has not yet fixed the problem, i have taken the suv in over 6 times for this problem.from 2004 until now 2007 the problem continues.the lights on the dash board keeps going out. They have replaced the lights at least 2 or 3 times but they keep going out. These lights are on the radio part, the buttons which operate the radio and switches the station. The panels seems to get very hot. The lights are currently out now after being replaced 3 times and now the vehicle is out of warranty.the paint on the suv is very dull and the leather on the 2nd row seat is cracking, completely worn and very cheap. I complained to the dealership 1 year after i purchased the vehicle that the leather is worn out too fast, nothing was done about the 2nd row leather seats. The paint on the exterior is dull and spotty, i complained to the dealership before the 36,000 mile warranty expired and nothing was done about the paint either. This suv is a lemon, it continues to cut off although many attempts has been made to repair the problem, i think they should buy this vehicle back since it can't be fixed. There is a defect in the electrical system since these lights on the instrument panel continues to wear out very fast and the radio had to be replaced already but the lights continues to blow out on the instrument panel and the steering wheel which also controls the radio and other components.

The speedometer/tachometer in my 2004 gmc envoy read inaccurately.the needles read way off of where they should be (ie.reading 45 mph at idle and tach at 8,000 rpms at idle).

Speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy xl slt reads incorrectly at all times.began as reading high occasionally, now it is entirely unreliable.sometimes high, sometimes low, sometimes 140mph in the driveway.

Hi, i'm a owner ofa gmc envoy xl. I have had many problems with the gauges altogether. 1st it was the fuel gauge and then now all the instruments are out. You cant tell how fast your going, if your vehicle is overheating nothing! i have done quiet a bit of research and it looks as if this is a very known issue. Its not that its the most costly part to fix but i dont feel the consumer should be responsible if ust about everyone that owns this type of vehicle has the same issue. Its also very dangerous not knowing what is going on while your on the road as well thats what the gauges are for. Please help!!!! the approx date entered is the date i filed this complaint i have had the issue for well over 6 months now.

The speedometer and tachometer on our 2004 envoy xl sometimes quits working. This creates an unpredictable situation especially on long trips.

Speedometer is erratic often 30 to 80 mph off and will not return to 0 mph when stopped.currently it reads above 120 mph and will not move up or down.

The cluster instrument panel flashes on and off guages are all incorrect from time to time and do not work some times.

2004 envoy - instrument cluster.

The speedometer quit working around 40,000 miles. Checked with dealer and found out there is no recall and it would cost around $700 to fix.

Own a 2004 envoy xl.speedometer stuck maxed out at 100+ mph.had to have the instrument panel replaced.quite a shock when you look down and think you are going 100.should be part of recall.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The instrument panel malfunctioned and the speedometer displayed the incorrect mileage. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the repairs would not be covered under the warranty. There were no related recalls. No repairs were made to date. The current and failure mileages were under 38,000.

The speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy xl malfunctioned. Its readings are very erratic and do not correspond at all with the speed of the vehicle. For example, readings of 10 mph while driving on the interstate with the flow of traffic and 100 mph while stopped at a traffic light. The readings vary anywhere from o mph to past 120 mph and are completely unrelated to the vehicle's speed. This failure occurred suddenly. The first sign was the speedometer sticking at 10 mph even as i accelerated; it then began the erratic behavior mentioned above. As a consequence, it is impossible to determine the speed at which this vehicle is traveling. This was especially concerning to me since this failure occurred as i was traveling home from indiana to south carolina with my wife and 3 children in the vehicle. This occurred yesterday and has not been repaired at this time.

The speedometer on my 2004 envoy xl began acting erratically ( going from 0 to 120 ) a earlier 2011 and continues.the gas gauge does not register properly either.the dealer wanted to change my speedometer first to see if this would fix both problems (over $600.00 in cost) and if that didn't fix it, then they would have to change a module in the fuel tank (another $600.00 in cost).my research on the internet indicates this is a faulty part and needs to be recall.i've read different makes of gmc and mileage have complained about this issue.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The speedometer read 35 mph while driving at 70 mph.the vehicle was taken to a local garage. Diagnostic testing located failure at the transmission shifter cable, which was replaced.other unknown parts were also replaced.the instrumental control panel sensor was replaced, but the failure was not corrected, the transmission failed again. The manufacturer took a report, but they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 93,000.

2004 gmc envoy xl. Consumer states recently began experiencing problems with instrumental panel. *tathe consumer stated the gauges on the instrument panel began to malfunction one after another and ultimately all but one are no longer working. Only the temperature gauge worked.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy (under 26,000 miles). I have noticed that after the suv runs for about 1/2 hr the speedometer will display my speed being below zero. In reality i am going about 50 mph. The speedometer is being acting very erratic. Is there anything the gm can do for this problem. I am in the process of talking to the dealership where i purchased the vehicle. I have read about the similar problem to other envoy owners on the internet. I have also seen the same issue in other gm brands. I think gm should recall 2004 envoys for this problem.

2004 gmc envoy xl speedometer and tachometer no longer function.... This happen about 1 year ago and it continues to this day... I am reading online that there are other similar issues with the instrument panel. In my opinion this is without a doubt a safety related issue.... I should be traveling 35 miles an hour and the car registers 75 mph. Its never correct and the tach just stopped working.

The speedometer has become erratic on my 2004 gmc envoy xuv. I was told by a dealership it will require replacement in the range of 300 dollars just for parts. This appears to be a manufacturing defect that conveniently appears shortly after the expiration of the warranty. From web posts it is obviously a widespread problem that should be addressed by the manufacturer.i have recently received a speeding ticket and my inspection is due!!!!!

2004 gmc envoy xl speedometer and tachometer inaccurate readings.speedometer readings some as high as 115-120.have no idea the actual speed at which i am traveling.terrified to think of using cruise control when traveling interstates many times each year.have reviewed online comments and i am not the only person experiencing this problem.gm/gmc appears to know about the problem based on the comments and dealer/service responses. Stands to reason that a faulty instrument panel could affect other functions of car.not knowing speed at which i am traveling is dire safety issue.what has nhtsa done to address this issue with gm/gmc?

Faulty tach and speedometer on my 2004 gmc envoy xl. I have no way of knowing my actual driving speed. Sitting still it will show 100+ mph. I traveled down an off ramp today doing 120 mph. My wife can't handle the vehicle any more. My local gmc dealer wants $500 to fix it. He stated many 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 gm vehicle have the same problem. Gm needs to step up and fix this. This is very unsafe. I nearly received a speeding ticket and the cop did not believe me when i told him my speedometer said i was only doing 60.

Speedometeron 2004 gmc envory started acting up and would read twice the actual speed of vehicle. Then it froze at 80 mph. It stills is not working. It jumpsaround all the time now.

The tachometer and speedometer do not work. While driving to work in a construction zone, my speedometer began malfunctioning. While traveling with other commuters, my speedometer read that i was traveling 85 mph. The tachometer has been out for several months. After calling the dealership, they informed me that this is common in my vehicle.

Speedometer reading 25 mph at full stop.n4180 cluster assembly was replaced.instrument panel buttons were then not working as they had previously.working on the issue with the dealer.

My car's speedometer started to give me the wrong speed and eventually just quit and is now stuck on 0.a little while after, the radiator gauge does not work either.it seems that the instrument cluster is slowing going out. We haven't fixed the instrument cluster yet because we have been trying to talk with the dealer and gmc about the problem, but they refused to fix it because we were just one person.

Erratic speedometer reading on 2004 gmc envoy, started 45 days ago and reading is different everyday.

Speedometer and tachometer quit working.

The one "electrical" part that controls the instruments that give the speed of the car, rpms, gas, oil, ect....all gauges do not work.there has been no recall on this yet with gmc, i have a 2004 gmc envoy and this problem started to occur right after the 60k mile mark.this is a true "danger"...i have no idea what speed, how much gas, what my engine is doing...nothing...the dealerships want anywhere from $400.00 to $600.00 to fix this problem.this is a true mechanical defect.the service manager at one of the local dealerships, said that gmc has a real problem....they have to replace this one part often.its something they see often.i want gmc to recall this part and fast...i need my gauges to work.

Speedometer malfunctioning, currently reading 68 mph while car is still.

Speedometer doesn't work.it will jump around and stick on any given speed and remain there.sometimes when the vehicle is restarted it will decrease 5 mph from the point at which it was last positioned.i cannot regulate my speed without the speedometer and afraid that i will cause an accident.it has not been fixed.

Electrical problems.i have had both rear tailgate sensors go out at the same time.i have the speedometer acting erratically off and on off and on.i have had the starter switch go out twice.

Transmission not shifting correctly, abs light, brake light, emergency brake light, 4-wd drive light, heat/ac crusie control not working. Found pi report, ignition switch replaced, fixed problem.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that when the vehicle was idle for a prolonged period of time, the engine would stall upon initial startup.the engine warning light was illuminated prior to start-up however, the engine would not respond. The contact was able to start the vehicle after several attempts, which resumed normally. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The manufacturer was alerted about the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

Was driving and service engine soon and reduced engine power loss came on.the car basically starting shutting down but i was able to coast out of traffic before it stopped completely.turn it off, back on several times, until the lights went off then drove it home. I've replaced the throttle body twice and the gas pedal for the sensor located behind it.went from happening sporadically to almost everytime i drive it. Can't drive 3 miles without reduced engine power loss coming on.now there's about 155,000 miles on the vehicle and it's happening all the time.needless to say, it's sitting on the driveway.i'm aware other customers are having this same issue from reading comments online.i don't understand why gm has not done a recall to fix the issue. Perhaps it can't be fixed.

My gmc's service engine soon light went on and i took into the shop.they stated that there is a fuel issue for the fuel cap and that the fuel tank needs to be replaced because it leaks.this is a manufacturers defect and this part should never "wear out" over time or due to the number of miles driven.gmc needs to stand behind their vehicle and replace this part for free!

I was driving and my vehicle on i-985 hall county ga. My check gage light came on and less than 1/2 of a mile it start to smoke and burn as soon as i stopped turned of the ignition. It burnt to the ground from the engine area to the inside.

Hello, hope you can help myself and other persons from not happening. I came home from work saturday, and parked in the garage as usual. After being home and watching some tv i know for sure was 2 in a half hours. My wife asked of me to go to the garage to getsome ice cream, we have a freeze in there. I walked in the door and couldn't believe how hot! it was in there it wasn't a hot day at all to make the garage sizzle. We have a thermometer gauge in there and believe me it read 100 . I wasshocked!i went into the house to get my wife, to let her feel the heat, and try to find the source of the problem. We both thought it was the freezer, because that's the only thing plug in. We felt the freezer from the outside , in some places it was hot. I couldn't take the heat any more and opened the garage door. There was no smell of anything that could be wrong. Then i touch my envoy, and hood of the car was hot, then we started to feel around the heat from the car was close enough to make the freezer hot. I opened the hood and the part to keep the hood up was to hot to handle. I mange nothing was burning no smell just heat inside and out. I pulled it out of the garage because of fear my garage going up in flames, with gasoline and other flammables. I open the door, and wow the heat i hurried and pulled it out. I looked at the gauges and they all read normal? i asked a few friends and they couldn't figure it out. We left the envoy in the drive all weekend, and left the garage door open to vent out. To my knowledge this has never happen before. We do have the bumper to bumper plan. Could you please check into problem it could safe a lot of lives. Thank god my wife wanted that orange sherbert.

I heard am exhaust leak and was informed by the dealer that a cracked manifold was the cause.cost to repair is estimated at $1100.00.

While driving at approximately 65 mph on the 405 freeway, the a/c was turned on and the engine died. Previously about 3 days earlier, while stopped at a traffic light, the a/c was turned on and the engine died. Following both incidents, the a/c was turned off and the engine was restarted without further problem.

2004 gmc envoy xuv dies when in drive and stopped for stop light, stop sign, etc.when the gas is applied, the car dies and i tie up traffic while having to shift to park, restart the engine, and then shift to drive and proceed through the intersection.it never dies while driving, only at a stop.i have had this car to the dealer numerous times and, because there is no "code" , they don't know what to do to fix it.the car also has a gas tank that is cracked at the neck and causes the check engine light to be on all the time.the dealership assures me that this is not a safety concern nor does the gas tank crack have anything to do with the engine dying.there is no gas leak but air does get into the tank causing the light to stay on. The throttle body has been cleaned and the entire emission system has also been checked and no one can figure out what the problem is.dealership also says that the gas tank problem is quite common but that there is no recall..................why not?????? the main computer module was replaced and this has been happening since then.

I traded my 2005 ford focus 26410 miles to wade raulerson gmc on october 3, 2007 wrote two checks in the amount of 500.00 each that they held for four weeks for a down payment. We looked at a 2004 gmc envoy with 65,000 miles the salesman quoted us a price of 17,000 so we did the paper work the first time on the 16th we were called in again and told we had to sign more documents this time the price of the envoy rose to 21698.35, i asked about my 05 focus was told it sold the next day and we had to have gap protection. Payoff on my car was 12,502.95 and it looked as if they were giving me 14900.00 but raised the price of the truck by 4000.00.bad deal to begin with.the problems began. I had to return it at the end of the month in october 2007 to have the headlights, seatbelt, and motor in the window replaced, and diagnosed to find why the service engine light will not go out. Two weeks later stranded at the daycare i had to buy a new battery. On 05/05/2008 the conditioner went out. I paid the dealership over 100.00 to tell me it would be an additional 600.00 plus dollars to repair the mode actuator door motor. October 17, 2008 i spent 375.02 to have both the shift control cable and gear shift lever removed and replaced. Thank god i was actually on a parking lot when the cable broke and not in traffic. Contacting wade raulerson gmc has been useless i have practically been told you bought the "lemon" as-is now it's your troubles! there should be a law against this type of business and not just for new cars. Now no-one will touch it because of the problems it is having and the large amount that'snow owed. Every time the vin is pulled i get pushed out of the door faster than i can blink. Btw the service engine light is still on and has been since i left the dealership. I?m tired of honest hard-working people being raked over the coals by unscrupulous dealers while they get protected by the "as-is" rule then laugh all the way to the bank.

On thursday 12/27/2011 on my way to work pulled into hess gas station put my truck in park look up and i was rolling back... Look at the gear shift and it was in park but on my dashboard the truck was in 1st gear tried to pull it out of park by the hand gear and it kept rolling back and forth then it finally lock up in park but still on the dashboard it said it was in 1st gear unable to change gears, had to have my truck towed to where i purchased it from autoline in jacksonville fla. Found out the shifter cable pop in half had to have it replaced purchased the shifter cable and shifter assembly costing just for the parts over $200.00 at 292.00 labor i only had the truck 3 months and since they claim it was wear and tear it was not covered under my extended warranty i purchased. This was a very scary morning glad i was not driving it and pulled over to purchase gas that morning. What i don't understand is why is this considered wear and tear.....

Well lets just say after receiving the envoy back from the dealer for replacing the gears in the transmission in which gm did not find to be at fault for not checking the transmission @ 31,000 miles when i had problems with it not shifting correctly. So over the next months following this my transmission went out @ 52000 miles, so gm had me pay a 500 deductible. Now my service engine light is on for the coolant system according to on-star, so back off to the delaership for not checking all the codes for the service engine light. I have already had to replace the fuel filter inside the gas tank, the gas tank neck, the battery @ 38,000 miles, and tires @ 28000 miles, brakes @ 38000 even when i asked the dealership to check the brakes and complained 3 times about the brakes. As i further investigated complaints regarding this vehicle, i found that the problems that i have had others have had reported to lemon law, nhsta, bbb. These items have happened from the start of purchasing this vehicle up until march of 2008.

My 2004 gmc envoy xuv (v6) has an engine problem.it has stalled on 3 occassions.we told the dealer service department about the incident and they did a diagnostic test on it.they said the computer on the envoy didn't have a record of the incident.on the 1st incidentit happened when pulling out of a parking spot.the 2nd time was after reversing out of a driveway and then driving forward out of the driveway.the 3rd time was attempting to drive forward after waiting for the garage door to open.

I purchased an used 2004 gmc envoy xl in 2005 with warranty. About a year began experiencing problems took to dealer was told engine had to be replaced due tohead bolt breaking. At this time i only paid my deductible as it was covered under the manf warranty.now 3 years later, i began to experience problems. Engine light one took to mechanic (warranty has expired)was told engine needs to be replaced. Seems it's the same problem it had with prior engine.

I heard a clicking noise from under the hood and after pulling off the cover plate for the engine exhaust manifold i saw the manifold was cracked.at idle speed fumes get inside vehicle.repair has not been made so old part is available.upon research on the internet there are numerous other complaints of this problem.i sent an e-mail to gm and someone called and said they need more people to report it to get something done.i believe it is a safety issue because of the fumes and possible fire hazard.

2004 gmc envoy 4.2 liter engine - defective exhaust manifold. Noticed casting crack at 81,000 miles replaced complete manifold, 02 sensor, gaskets at 89,000 miles.according to dealer no recall or extended warranty on this part that many others have had crack.

Started to hear loud rattle coming from rear of vehicle, thought maybe a heat shield around muffler went bad.took it into the shop and they stated "not sure what happened, though you have something that has come loose in the resonator".around $100 to get the resonator removed, have not quoted a new one from the dealer yet.i would imagine the replacement part will fail just as the original part has done.

Dvd player over heats and stops workingother owner of envoy have had the same problems.

Gauge cluster including speedometer failure

The bumper jack is unsafe.when jacked to its full height under a load, the jack's cork screw moves, misalign itself, from the jack's body.therefore, you are unable to screw it back into its body due to the misalignment.in order to remove the jack, i had to drive off of it.

2004 gmc envoy slt- headlights go off with no warning at night- happened on a dark road, almost went in a ditch- also, speedometer does not work.

High beams on vehicle project straight up to the sky.when weather is clear it is not noticeable but when raining, foggy or snowing visibility is affected a great deal.my internet search indicated a problem with an aftermarket headlamp assembly but mine are gm stamped.this is definitely a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. While turning the ignition to the on position, the headlights failed to activate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the headlight driver module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred numerous times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

Problem with brake light not coming on.the fuses and tail lights have been checked; all fuses and bulbs are functioning.this is hazardous and dangerous while driving, for myself as well as unsuspected drivers behind me.this will also create problems with law enforcementfor me or anyone operating this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 (na) gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that the low beam headlights failed to illuminate. The contact was able to drive home with the high beams activated. The vehicle was taken to an independent body shop and the mechanic stated that the low beam lights needed to be replaced; however, the contact was not advised as to what caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number:07e014000 (exterior lighting). The failure mileage was 129,000.

When there is moisture in the air, the headlights will cast a beam of light straight up in front of the vehicle when headlights are on high.it doesn't matter if it is rain, snow or fog, it is enough of a hazard to cause you to not be able to see what is in front of you. Then, you have to drive on low beam and this can also be a hazard due to the overrunning of the headlights.this is a very dangerous condition.this 2004 gmc envoy xl has done this since day one.i have called gmc and told them about this problem.i like this vehicle, i'm just concerned that a potential bad accident can happen as a result of this problem.

When you turn on the turn signals the 4-way emergency fashers are activated, causing a confusing situation for other drivers who cant tell what you want to do. This is an intermittent problem.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. While driving various speeds, the turn signal indicators became inoperable without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 184,000.

I own a gmc envoy lx 2004.when i put my left turn signal on the hazards turn on. This does not happen everytime, so it is very hard to repeat. This is very dangerous because i sometimes can not signal.i do not have time to stick my hand out side to let the people near me now i am turning. Also the right turn signal sometimes just does not work. It is also random.

Fuel gauge is not working, it even pointed completely south at one time.looking on the web it seems to be a common problem in envoys.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl.the contact was driving approximately 30 mph as the fuel gage displayed an incorrect reading. The failure recurred at any time.the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they replaced the fuel tank yet the failure continued to recur. A complaint was filed with the manufacturer regarding the fuel tank but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 84,000.

The gas tank or hose is leaking. This is only 7 years old and it is going to be very expensive to fix an feel this should be a recall. Several people have told me that they have had recalls on trailblazers for just this reason.

Special coverage adjustment fuel tank inlet check valve fracture #07099a. Issued august 24, 2007.my 2004 gmc envoy is now experiencing this problem. I was never notified of this as gm claims they did not know i was the owner of this car. I bought it used in 2005.i was told by a mechanic when i took it in to check out the problemthat i should not fill the gas tank full as it could cause gas leakage. I am also facing an expensive bill to get this fixed. A recall was never issued and it appears this is a life safety issue. I would appreciate your attention in this matter.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. While parked, the contact noticed a strong gasoline fuel smell. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing where the mechanic advised the contact that the fuel tank was corroded and fuel was leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

My gas gauge says i have gas when i keep running out. I have taken to dealership and they replaced gauge. Still does not work.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl.the current mileage was 61,000.the check engine warning indicator light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel tank was cracking and had to be replaced.the failure mileage was 57,000.

Own a 2004 gmc envoy and i have problems with the fuel gauge and the odometer. The fuel gauge goes past the f line when the vehicle is not on fuel. Also the odometer will stop working or get stuck on 10-15 mph. He happens often...every other day. I was told that it would cost 1400 to fix and a possibility it may not fix the problem.

The fuel tank neck where the fuel goes into the vehicle, then down to the gas tank, has in the plastic & leaks fuel & gas vapors so the check engine light is always on.my mechanic said there is no way to fix this without purchasing a new fuel tank since this is all one piece.

2004 envoy gmc xl having the po442 code come up with signs of gas leaking, smells like gas and evap system seems to not be working.the gmc diagnostic comes up with evap small leak detected.very similar to the problems on the 2002-2003 envoy xl.

2004 envoy xl vin [xxx] started as fuel smell, now leaking in the area where fuel pump attach's to tankmilage 126224. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2004 envoy with approx.47,000 .had to replace fuel tank due to fracture around filler neck andreplaceoxygen sensor .was informedextended warranty on fuel tank modular reservoir assembly which contains the fuel pump did not include filler neck i had to pay 1'551.16 dollars for repair.

2004 gmc envoy leaking gasoline. I was told my car was leaking gasoline.icontacted gmc corp. Office to request assistance for the repair and was denied, reason given local service provider said consumer caused crack in gas tank. Also asked for assistance at least a percentage off from local dealership also denied. I called the local service repair while on hold with gmc and was told they did not tell gmc that i caused the damage. The local service repairman said they can not determine how the damage was caused. He would not advocate nor deny a faulty part by gmc. We just want our vehicle fixed. My family and i cannot afford to pay $1300. For this repair. This car has so many problems that we cannot keep up with them financially. Currently the air conditioner does not blow, it has worked in several years. The passenger window chooses when it wants to roll down, the cd player just stopped playing after the two years. Often when i put gas inside the car i have to roll the windows down because the fumes are so strong in the backseat where my children sit.we have to put gas inside the car every two days. This car is dangerous to me and my family. I read on the nhtsa website a investigation was conducted and was closed due to gmc willingness to assist the consumer. I mentioned this to the gmc representative and her supervisor that i was aware a investigation was conducted. They indicated they are not aware of a investigation and to their knowledge i am the first gmc consumer to report such a problem. On behalf of my family i am requesting your assistance in this matter. I cringe everytime i have to drive my children in this car. We cannot afford the repair and we cannot afford another vehicle. Please help us in this matter. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy. The odor of gas was present in the vehicle at a stop sign. The dealer stated that the fuel pump corroded with rust causing the pump to spray fuel to the top, penetrate in the undercarriage, and the exhaust system. The contact assumed the cost of $444 to replace the fuel pump. The manufacturer advised him that there is no related recall. The currentand failure mileages were 42,500. Updated 02-14-08the consumer stated the labor cost was in the amount of $220 extra. Updated 02/14/08

2004 gmc envoy fuel pump module flange corrosion, causing leak onto top of gas tank and exhaust.

I have a 2004 gmc envoy xuv and when the oil was just recently changed the mechanic noticed that the gas tank was leaking at the point where the filler met the main body of the tank. He said since the tank was plastic the gas was causing the deterioration and the entire tank would cause a major issue. After checking with our local gmc dealer i discovered that the vehicle is just out of the 3 yr warranty period and since it was purchased in arizona and not california it is not covered under the extended gmc warranty. This should not be part of a replacement plan the consumer should be paying for, not like a regular maintenance item (changing tires, oil changes, spark plugs, etc.) cutting corners to make the vehicle lighter and then not supporting the change is not the best way to be popular.

Vehicle's "check engine" light came on 2 days prior to failing a vehicle emissions test for fuel tank leak. Dealer stated that there was a "special policy" in place as the manufacturer recognized this same defect on other vehicles. The vin number was not included in the "special policy" but was the same defect. The dealer is advising not to continue to drive the vehicle until repaired. The dealer opinion is that due the"special policy" there are no fuel tanks available so the vehicle ia located at the dealer until repaired. Old part can be made available.

Check engine light on and taken to advance auto parts was told that there was a small leak.they advised that hoses are to be checked.hoses were checked and check engine light remained on.taken to the dealer and found out that there is a leakin the fuel tank.was told that this was not a recall item.but this is a very dangerous defect.now waiting for part to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, she noticed that thefuel gauge reading was fluctuating while the fuel tank was full. The engine then suddenly stalled due to the faulty fuel gauge. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000.

My 2004 gmc envoy xl slt is leaking gas at the gas tank and the filler hose gas just runs down the tank to the ground its a fire risk

Vehicle was taken in for oil change and i was advised it had a crack at the neck of fuel tank. Upon further research there has been a recall for this very same problem on the same vehicle. Vehicle was never in a accident or anything that would cause this.

The gas tank has a lose connector that leaks and allows fumes to escape.

My envoy has had the check engine light on for years, and the smell of gas, went to gmc and they said need new gas cap, didn, twork, went to another car repair need new gas cap, same thing over and over again, every month on myonstar report, said i had emission problems, they tested the car, looks like it could be you need a new gas cap..... A few months ago my gmc would not start, call aaa to pick up envoy and take in the charles shop near my home.... As the auto was being put on the trailer, i saw gas dripping from the area of the gas tank....went to charles repair to them about what i saw and explained that for you i have been trying to find out what was wrong with the gas cap, and the smell of gas...well the checked it out and found my gas tank had a crack in it and i would need a new gas tank cost around $900.00, i paid them for the starting problem that they fixed and took the gmc home, i live in florida and i was reading the sunday paper and there is an article, about gmc recalls, about how the warm weather states having a problem with a plastic part might crack and cause a fuel leak..well this is what happened to my gmc, how do i get my car repaired by gmc, what can i do to get it fixed, i only put $20 to $30 of gas at a time ,in the car because i don't want gas leaking and might cause a fire. Help me please.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated thatthe rear driver and passenger side door latches failed. Neither of the doors would open and when the contact was able to open the doors, they would not remain closed. The dealer advised the latches were chipping and the failure was the same as described in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v494000 (latches/locks/linkages: doors: latch). The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.

As i was driving in cruise control speed off 55 mph vehicle begin to make a dragging sound. After stopping and placing vehicle into park and then putting gear back into drive vehicle began to go into reverse mode. I then tried every other gear 1,2,3 drive the vehicle continued to still go into reverse. The car still turns on without a problem but will not move forward when in drive.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated. The contact stopped at a fuel station and proceeded to check all the fluid levels. The contact continued to drive and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact could only operate the vehicle in first and second gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the transmission failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and complaint number: 84441281449 was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 140,395.consumer stated the vehicle has been repaired with a remanufactured transmission it is a know fact in the automotive industry that gm is aware of the faulty construction of truck trans missions. My transmission was serviced above and beyond the manufactured recommendation. The attached document from jasper transmission demonstrated all the areas that they need to address because of all the safety failures in the original manufacturing. The failures without notice causing a major safety issue. Engine-transmission-exchange addressed the same issues when remanufacturing.

I was driving back home, pulled in my driveway, put the vehicle in park and when i released the brake pedal the vehicle jumped and took off in reverse. I missed hitting my wife by inches. I stopped and restarted the vehicle. It would not start. I tried to push the button on the shifter.i internet searched it was said to be the lockout devise. I inspected the trans and found the cable that come from the shifter to the trans was off and trans bracket was worn from use. If it happened in a parking lot i could have hit someone or the vehicle behind me. I contacted gmc no knowledge of the safety problem i have described. My case file is[xxx]. I talk with amy and junaid at ext 42846. They told me i had take it to the dealer for inspection to determine if it is a defect or wear and that the dealer would take 1 hr to inspect the vehicle which i would have to pay for. I then called 2 dealers love chevrolet inverness fl 34453 and eagle buick, pontiac & gmc truck homosassa fl. I was told both service reps that this happen all the time and they would confirm that it was due to wear and not a defect. But in you manual there is no provisions to inspect the shifting cable with is a safety problem which gm and the dealer are aware of but ignore and tell you have to buy a new cable for $75.00 instead of supplying the bushing that has been worn out that is press fit into the cable the only defect on the cable is the bushing which cost at most $3.00 and a very easy fit. I have a buick rainer with the same defect vin[xxx] the way it was repaired was the shift lever on the trans pin was remover and a bolt and nut were put in place of the oem pin on shifter and it was bolted to the shifter end of the cable no oem repair this vehicle was sold to me by gm eagle buick. I own 2 gm vehicles with the same safety problem.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was driving back home and parked in my driveway put the vehicle in parked and when i released the brake peddle the vehicle jump and took off in reverse. I missed hitting my wife by inches. I then stopped the vehicle and turned it off. Then i tried to restart the vehicle and it would not start. I tired to push the button on the shifter. I then though there was something wrong with the transmission. I then when to the internet and search what would cause the problem. Finding it was something to do with the lockout devise. I then checked inspected the transmission and found the cable that come from the shifter to the transmission was of and the bushing the was suppose to hold the cable end on the transmission bracket was defective and made my vehicle very dangerous almost hitting my wife. If it had happened in a parking lot i could have hit someone or the vehicle behind me. Contacted gmac no knowledge of the safety problem i have described.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that after entering the driveway, she shifted into park but the gear selector indicated that the vehicle was still in drive. The vehicle then rolled away. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who stated that the gear cable had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 132,193. Updated 11/19/13*ljthe consumer stated upon shifting the gear into park, the vehicle continued to roll forward. Once the consumer pushed the shifter release, an indicator displayed internal failure cable broken.

When i first bought the vehicle the transmission was shifting eratiecly for a while. I took vehicle to dealer, and they said nothing was wrong drive it until it breaks. 3 months and about 3,000 miles later i had not had another problem. Until i pulled up to a stop sign at a busy intersection. I checked for trafic and went to pull out except that the envoy would barely move. It was like the brakes were on or something was holding the vehicle back from moving. The cross traffic was quickly approaching and i had no choice but to slam on my brakes and hope the other person didnt hit me as i was sticking out in the intersection. The other person swerved and missed me. I pushed down on the accelerator again and slowly rolled through the intersection. I stopped on the other side of the intersection and tried to start again. The same result of no acceleration as the car slowly began rolling and continued to accelerate to a normal speed but at much higher rpm. I took it to the dealer and they said that is was stuck in second gear. Park and reverse also worked but none of the other forward gears worked manual shifting the transmission or setting at any other drive position. They said they fixed it because of a service bulltin put out by gm. They told me they fixed a wiring harness, replaced the ignition switch and cleared all the codes.

Truck service engine light has continuously come on and off. The transmission went and lost all gears at 52,000 miles, after the vehicle had been in at 31,000 miles for the same reason. There have been multiple items in which the service engine light has been on: transmission several times but dealership could not find anything, fuel cap, fuel tank neck, internal gauge for the fuel tank, and only to get the vehicle back on 3/19/08 and for the service engine light to come on again. I swear this truck is a total lemon! i have had nothing but problems with this vehicle, and every time i have taken it to the dealership they can never find anything wrong. This last time was a total fight with the dealership regarding the transmission, along with no morals and respect for the consumer from gm themselves or the dealership. I believe that i have ended up with a lemon, and there is not a darn thing i have been able to do about it because no one seems to think that there is a problem. Contacted on-star to run diagnostic checks every time the service engine light has come on and they can not seem to find anything so i end up taking it to the dealer for 65.00 an hour for diagnostic check and being told there is something else wrong with the truck and was assured that they ran all diagnostic checks and cleared all the codes after fixing the transmission. This is beginning to become very annoying, costly, and unreliable when transporting children in what i call an unsafe vehicle. I have put more money into this vehicle than what it is worth with such low miles!

While driving and approaching a stop for a red light, there was a very loud crashing sound from under the vehicle.the vehicle was no longer able to drive in 1st gear or reverse.the vehicle was able to propel itself in 'd', but was very sluggish as if trying to start driving a manual transmission in 2nd or 3rd gear.while the vehicle was in neutral it would still propel itself when the accelerator was depressed.it was no longer able to be moved manually by pushing, it would only move when driven forward or when the rear wheels where lifted off the ground when it was towed. The dealer has recommended a new transmission.

There is an issue with either the transfer case or transmission of my 2004 gmc envoy xl.on several occasions, while performing slow maneuvers (20 mph or less) in and out of parking spaces or making slower right or left hand turns, the vehicle feels as if it is being held back by something, until a loud clunk is heard as if a gear disengages, and then the vehicle jumps forward.this has proven to be dangerous to me, as i have felt more than once like i hit something.the vehicle also experiences very hard downshift, into first gear as the vehicle comes to a stop.this issue first appeared on the vehicle in december 2004, and has continued intermittently through the current date date (for more than 5 separate instances).

Transmission not shifting correctly, abs light, brake light, emergency brake light, 4-wd drive light, heat/ac crusie control not working. Found pi report, ignition switch replaced, fixed problem.

I own a 2004 envoy xl with a v-8 motor.i have complained to the dealer, who states they can't find a problem, that the transmission jerks extremely bad when it changes into 2nd gear and then again when it shifts into drive.i have been told by other envoy owners that they have actually had their transmissions replaced, and one friend had even had his vehicle exchanged under the lemon law.the dealer had virtually done nothing to correct the problem.other dealers in my area don't want to mess with the vehicle, and it only has 6500 miles on it.i'm beginning to believe that i've been stuck with a lemon.

While driving down the highway, my gmc envoy xl shuddered then stalled.the ses light and reduced power light came on causing an extreme safety hazard as we were on a highway (speed limit 65 mph).the dealer, regal automotive in lakeland stated that the computer that controls the drive train lost contact with the vehicle.they informed us that this is a common problem with the envoy and that they have a service bulletin for a program update.however, no recall have been issued.

While driving at 35-40 mph, after exiting the highway, (i-75) my truck just slowed all of a sudden, almost to a complete stop, no warning. And started jerking. I was almost rear ended. My truck started rattling, and clanking, and i had to have it towed. I was told by the dealership that my front carrier had thrown a bearing, (font differential) and the housing was broken. I was also told that it would be 3,286.53 to have my truck repaired. Upon further research, i learned from a friend that the same problem had occurred with his truck six months after he had purchased it, and that over 450 of these same parts had to be ordered in 2004 alone.

Pulled onto the road (2004 gmc envoy xl) at approximately 5-10 mph loud noise. Vehicle began to have difficulty manually shifting (automatic transmission) and i lost reverse. Upon further investigation discovered gm tsb 00-07-30-022c indicating there is a faulty part (reaction sun shell gear) in the transmission in vehicles manufactured in 1993 - 2005. Dealer technician confirmed. Cost of over $3,000 to repair, my costs since the vehicle is 3 months out of warranty. Purchased new.

I am renting a gmc envoy.when i first got into the car i noticed that the seat belt hit my neck at a not-too-comfortable spot but i didn't really think much about it...until yesterday when i turned my head and body in such a way that the very sturdy seat belt cut my neck.it's not a big deal, only a scratch but if i hadn't just been casually turning my head, if i had braked suddenly or been in a collision, i'm not so sure.i know it's not a big deal but please put my letter in the pile so if other people have this problem something can be done about it.thanks.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that the vehicle was stopped when he noticed a burning odor and saw smoke and a small fire coming from the front passenger seat.the contact shut the vehicle off and was able to extinguish the fire. Upon restarting the vehicle, the contact stated that the front passenger seat could no longer be adjusted electronically. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 84,000.

Gmc 2004 envoy xl suv has repeated stopping problems at low speed. Brake peddle has excessive travel and coast through stop signs at low speed. Experienced near misses with cars in parking lots. Brake peddle collapses to floor at stop lights and signs when stopped. False abs activation on dry pavement.

Power steering pump failure on gmc 2004 envoy.

Was park, went to back up and felt like there was no power steering. Ps fluid is good, belt is good, pulley seems fine, no leaks, but very hard to steer. This 2004 gmc envoy has been nothing but a headache....not to mention the speedometer doesn't work properly either.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. While driving 65 mph, the third brake light spoiler detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000. Updated 12/01/16*lj

My rear passenger door won't latch. It was opened and then wouldn't latch again. I have been told by the dealership that it is the latch assembly. There is/was a recall for the exact problem for the 2002 and 2003 gmc envoy. The latch is not latching properly on the rear passenger side.

Electrical problems.i have had both rear tailgate sensors go out at the same time.i have the speedometer acting erratically off and on off and on.i have had the starter switch go out twice.

Consumerstatedwhiledriving rear passenger's side tire blewout. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and next day she was told by dealer thata nailmight have been in the tire.consumer disagreed with dealers assessment. Michelincross terrain tire.

The spare tire release does not work.you are supposed to raise the jack up to the spare tire and it will push the spare up and release i the release bent as well as the jack.we will now have to cut the wire if we ever want to use the spare tire.this should have a normal release or metal plate holding the spare onto the bottom of the truck.

The gas tank has a lose connector that leaks and allows fumes to escape.

Dash gauges/ first the oil level gauge died, then the speedometer started acting up, it will say your going 200 mph, when your standing still...then the speakers and the radio started acting up, work, don't work...really concerned about speedometer, and if other gauges will follow suit.

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl.while pulling into drivewayat 5 mph the vehicle would not stop,it accelerated and then i hit garage. There was damage to the garage the garage door had to be replaced.the vehicle was damaged, the estimated cost to repair the vehicle was$5000.the vehicle isat the dealer . An investigation is ongoing at this time. When the tow truck came to pick the vehicle the driver noted that the brakes were all the way to the floor. Ak

Speedometer was erratic.sometimes registered higher mph than the vehicle was moving.turning the vehicle off & restarting will bring it down by 10 mph each time.very unsafe to be unaware of the speed you are traveling!

2004 gmc envoy slt- headlights go off with no warning at night- happened on a dark road, almost went in a ditch- also, speedometer does not work.

Speedometer continually gets stuck at random mph

Own a 2004 gmc envoy and i have problems with the fuel gauge and the odometer. The fuel gauge goes past the f line when the vehicle is not on fuel. Also the odometer will stop working or get stuck on 10-15 mph. He happens often...every other day. I was told that it would cost 1400 to fix and a possibility it may not fix the problem.

While driving my n2004 gmc envoy, myn speedomotor quit working and shows speeds over 100mps when driving.when in park, off or idling, the speedo needle is never at zero... It is at 30 or 40 mph during these times.i do no know how fast i am going.

On my 2004 gmc envoy xl the speedometer has failed at about 39000 miles. It does not indicate an exact speed, sometimes it moves, sometimes it doesn't.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, she attempted to accelerate further when the accelerator pedal depressed all the way to the floor. The vehicle began to surge forward until being shifted into neutral. The vehicle was then stopped and shut off. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 79,061. The vin was unavailable.

I own a 2004 envoy xl 2 wd.it has 40,000 miles on the odometer. On threedifferent occasions the speedometer read zero while the car was above 40 mph.the speedometer remained off line until the next time itwas stopped with turning off theignition.upon start up,the speedometer needle beganto recognize the actual speed variations of the drive. Undocumented rates of speed couldcause accidents.when will the next timewhen this recurs onthevehicle?will this and/or could this cause an accident?

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that the windshield wipers were defective and would not shut off. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,400 and the current mileage was 106,000.

The windshield wiper pump that came with the vehicle started running continuously after washing the windshield. The pump would not shut off when vehicle was shut off. After a few minutes the washer pump overheated itself and cause a small fire, i was lucky enough to get out quick. I replaced with a new washer pump and it still ran continuously, i uninstalled immediately...right now i have no way to wash my windshield and the bigger issue is the fire that we were lucky to escape any major incident.

After finishing shopping, i went to my car and opened the back door to put my merchandise , as soon as the door opened about 12 inches, the glass blew up and shattered everywhere. I've owned this suv for 2 years now and never had any issue with the back door, it was shocking how a glass would shatter like this. In addition, it is very expensive to replacethe glass ($500 and up).

I picked up my kids and niece from school and was visiting at my brothers house for a few hours (3 to be exact) when my kids and i went to leave my rear window was shattered. I filed a police report and the officer could not see any reason for my window to shatter like it did.

The contact owns a 2004 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that he was unable to open the driver's side window due to the master door switch malfunctioning. The contact stated that he had already replaced the switch twice previously. The manufacturer had not been notified. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 60,000. Updated 12/13/12

After storing cargo in the rear of my 2004 gmc envoy xl, i reached for the handle on the tailgate to close it and once i started to pull down an inch or two the entire rear window shattered. There was no warning or cracks or damage in the glass prior to the incident. I was covered in a shower of glass and shards were in the car, on the ground and in my skin. I have owned the vehicle approx three years and it currently has 88k mi on it. The entire rear window needs to be replaced. Based on my research i fear this may happen again which would be hazardous to anyone in the vicinity.

2004 gmc envoy wiper module assembly failure. Intermittent failure of windshield wipers. Failed to turn off when turned to the off position. Chp helped me find and pull the fuse out to turn them off. After vehicle sits for a few days, wipers turn off. $435 for dealer replacement. Vehicle was purchased on 03/05/2004, but i neglected to get it to the dealer until 03/16/2004. Gmc says sorry, its out of warranty. 31k on vehicle. Dealer will have replacement part in, 3 days from today.
