When the driver slid on ice and crashed into a tree, the airbag did not deploy and the driver was injured
I was driving down the highway and all of my instrument panel gauges stopped working and the indicator lights came on for the entire system. This problem continues to happen and gmc will not fix this problem. They say i have too many miles and that my vehicle is not part of the recall.this now continues to happen and the whole electric system is in failure, i can't start the vehicle now and this is 2013. Chronic ongoing problem that poses major safety issues with speed, fuel and much more.
The contact owned a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that the vehicle lost control while driving 25 mph on a slightly icy roadway. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. The contact also stated that the limited slip differential system failed to engage during the failure. The contact, as well as a passenger suffered minor injuries during the crash. In addition, the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash suffered minor injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an insurance lot. An authorized dealer and the manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that they would investigate the vehicle. The failure mileage was 98,630.updated 01/05/12*ljupdated 01/09/12
I was in a center frontal impact accident at 35-40 mph with a vehicle that pulled in front of me (t-bone accident) and my airbags failed to deploy.
The contact owned a 2003 gmc envoy xl.while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch.while driving out of the ditch, she struck a large culvert and the vehicle went airborne.the vehicle rolled severalbefore finally coming to a stop.the passenger side seat belt snapped, which caused the passenger to be ejected from the vehicle and killed between the second or third rollover.none of the air bags deployed.the driver was hospitalized and remains in serious condition.there has been no explanation as to what caused the passenger side seat belt to fail and the air bags to not deploy.the vehicle was destroyed and a police report was filed.the failure mileage was 108,000. I was in a mva july 22, 2015i was tboned on the drivers side and the went headon with a light pole and my airbags never deployed. I had many problems with the electrical in the truck since i purchased the truck. It was an as is with no warranty and i wasnt given any knowledge of problems or recalls.i suffered extensive injuries to my body and my truck was a total loss $10000 in damages to the vehicle.
Faulty driver side seat belt that will not release to fasten. I have taken the car in and the repair person said that there was nothing wrong, and that it just was catching on something. Also, the passenger side door behind the drivers seat was very hard to open the repair person at the same dealership broke the handle trying to open the door. The repair shop did fix the handle for free, however the door remains still very hard to open and i would not use this particular door. After a while the door would not close and the door latch had to be replaced at my expense. The back window would not go all the way up and the actuator had to be replaced also. I am not sure what month the first incidence took place, but everything seemed to happen quickly afterwards.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl.the contact was involved in a crash two and a half years ago and the air bags failed to deploy.she was driving at 35 mph at the time.since that time, she was involved in another crash, in which the vehicle was destroyed.the air bags failed to deploy again.a police report was filed.the contact called the manufacturer and they will send some paperwork for her to complete.the engine size and powertrain were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 47,000.
I had been in a front end collision by a drunk driver turning directly in front of me while traveling at a speed of about 50 mph, 5 mph under the speed limit in a 2003 gmc envoy slt. I have just spent 1700.00 on the vehicle as there had been a service soon light on about a month ago. My concern is that the airbags did not deploy? i am very concerned with replacing my auto with the same manufacturer due to the situation. I am wondering if there have been related issues. At present i am encountering headaches and stiffness which i hope to have looked at by myfamily physician tomorrow. My passenger has experienced the same.
While traveling at or less than 35 mph, onbright sunny day and ondry pavement vehicle would not stop, brake pedalwent to the floor.let it up and pressed it to the floor again without success.on third attempt jammed the pedal to the floor andthe entire car locked up.the steering wheel wouldn't turn, at least one wheel locked, hit the car that was stopped at the stop light.even after stopping only the service enginecheck light and the stop engine lightilluminated.the brake pedalremained to the floor , and i couldn't not shift into park until after jamming on the pedalseveral times.9000 in damage to the vehicle, including the frame had to be pulled, and yet the airbag did not deploy.4ooo milesto the other vehicle.no injuries.
The check engine light came on and i smelled gas. The dealer informed me that there was a crack between gas tank and the filler neck.the fuel tank was never work on or removed before.because i did not have the extend warranty and had 56,00 mile there was nothing they could do for me. They also told me that this was a rare thing but they are still not wanting to assist me in the repair which will cost a $1,000.
This is the second occurrence of an issue with the vehicles manual switch for 2hi,awd,4hi,4low. The dealer i bought the used vehicle from fixed the issue right after purchase and i'm having another problem with the switch. I try to select anything besides 2hi and the selector will just continue to blink on the selection without any action. Sometimes the service 4wd will illuminate on the dash. This seems like a frequent occurrence/complaint of other envoy owners online.
While driving on the highway at 65 mph, the third row floor got really hot and my children were saying their feet were really hot and we smelled something like plastic melting and my 15 year old cousins boot melted and the carpet melted and you can see metal. Once we arrived home the blinker stayed on and did not shut off until the battery died. Just before this happed the vehicle lost power and my husband had to put his foot on the gas all the way.
Erratic speedometer problems on my 2003 gmc envoy xl. It has been acting up occasionally for several years, but now it sometimes will totally malfunction and either bottom out at zero, or register too high, it is just not working properly. I have done some research and found that this is a common issue for gmc vehicles of this time frame, and envoys are one of the worst.
I was driving down the road when the car shut down everything i was scared because i had traffic right behind me going 45mph and then they car would not run again. I was right in the middle of an inter section at hall road and 59 it was the scariest thing that has happened to me. I bought this vehicle as a used auto and i'm not sure if the emmission system ever got changed and this happened once before and the dealer said not to drive with my house keys attached. I had to get the auto towed home.
2003 gmc envoy.about 6 months ago my speedometer started going haywire.i was either going less than 0 miles and hour or over 120 miles and hour, depending on the day.it seemed to have fixed itself and started working again for a while.now it is back to acting erratic and i never, ever know how fast i'm going.i am even more upset now that i have seen so many complaints on here about the same thing.this is obviously a recall situation that needs to be handled by gmc.i now have to pay several hundred dollars to fix something that should be a recall.
Mainly in wet weather, dashboard alerts chime and lights flash. Doesn't stop until weather is better. I'm afraid there is a short somewhere. Bought vehicle in december, 2013. Dealer won't help. I don't know what to do. Please advise. I can't find a recall regarding this. But have read several complaints and reviews with this same issue. I did not know about this when i bought it because it was winter at the time. Very frustrated and unhappy.
Tl- the contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that the drivers side door panel malfunctioned intermittently. The contact indicated that the front doors would not lock and the rear doors would only lock by using the key fob. The contact mentioned that the door locks, windows, power mirror adjuster and the heated seats failed to work intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the switch panel on the front drivers side needed to be replaced. The contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 13v248000 (electrical system and visibility). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000. Pamupdated 08/12/14*lj
I have a 2003 gmc envoy xl and have problems with the ignition switch being lose and not shutting off all the way when the key is out and just the other morning i went to go to work and my car would not start due to the ignition being stuck in the on position after i had parked my car and took the key out, i am now afraid that while i am driving the ignition switch is going to be bumped into the off position and cause me to crash.

I got home one evening and when i turned the ignition key to shut the truck off the engine continued to run.i was concerned; as i could not leave the vehicle running all night; at that point i tried to engage the key again and the vehicle was still running . I became concerned and started to fiddle with the knobs and was surprised when after turning the highlight switch the engine shut off.the next morning i hestitately attempted to start the vehicle and when i was successful i headed straight to the gmc dealer. The dealer said that it was a wiring problem and the ignition wiring had to be redone; (the cost was $1600.00) i started a dialog with gm and they engaged me with several conversations; which led me to believe that they would pick up the cost; as electrical components were not part of any scheduled maintenance that i as a owner would be responsible for. When i made a request for reimbursement i was told that because of the mileage there was nothing they could (or would do). I could see if it were related to an oil change. Brakes, filters, etc. But as a owner this item is outside of my area of responsibility. Gm should stand behind their products and make me and others whole.ps.
Truck shut off while driving.
Speedometer started displaying incorrect mph. While driving between 55-60 mph, speedometer displayed 110mph and has continued to today. When vehicle is in park or even when vehicle is turned off, the speedometer needle shows 60mph. Gmc has recalls for other makes, not ours. I googled this information, turns out thousands others are having the same problem. I contacted gm for assistance, was told my model was not covered under the recall and there was nothing to be done. The repair will cost $600-800. If this is a known issue, why isn't there an attempt to repair this problem. Please assist.
The fan blower for heat and air wouldn't cut off even with the key out of ignition. Also two coil packs went out within a month.
In six years my 2003 envoy has had nothing but electrical issues.my lights are constantly being replaced. My head light wiring has shorted out and now the whole wiring connection needs replaced.the latest is an electrical system problem that is draining my battery and not allowing it to properly charge.
My driver side locks and window controls have ceased to operate.evidently fluid may enter the driver's door module, causing corrosion that could result in a short circuit in the door module which caused the power door lock and power window switches to become inoperative. My concern is that the short may also cause overheating, which could melt components of the door module, producing an odor, smoke, or a fire. I looked on the internet and there is a recall from gm anddealers will inspect the driver's door module, if it is functioning correctly, a protective coating will be applied. If the module is not functioning correctly, it will be replaced. The gm recall number is 12180.i called gm and they told me that although this exact problem is happening to my automobile...my car is not covered.i am afraid that my car will catch on fire.
Every time you exit the vehicle andclose the door or touch any thing that is metal after exiting the car you get shocked....sparks fly.i am concerned that someday i will be pumping gas and one of my children is going to get out of the car and touch something and spark an explosion or fire.
2003 gmc envoy speedometer quit working cost 550.00 to replace and after reading online all gmc envoys of this year have the same problem why has this not been recalled.i feel this is very serious.
Malfunctioning of instrument cluster diagnosed by dealer.
During colder days, our speedometer on our 2003 gmc envoy xl does not work until it warms up.we have 112,000 miles on the vehicle however researching on line for speedometer issues, there appears to be an issue.i cannot tell what speed we are going and then once it warms up it begins to work recording half speed.it may or may not eventually record accurate speed.this is a safety issue from the stand point that i use my speedometer to determine speed going into corners and off ramps.without this ability, my speed is estimated which does not allow accurate speed into curves.this appears to be electrical in nature as it is intermittent.seems like there should be a recall to correct this problem.
My gmc envoy xl that is very well taken care of and all maintenance is always kept up to date just stopped charging (battery) over night. I was told the the battery cell was bad and i needed to replace the battery. I spent the money to replace the battery to only find out the instrument panel is draining my battery. I am very frustrated because this seems to be an ongoing issue, and the dealership is still having a hard time finding the exact issue with what component in the instrument panel that is draining my battery. I have been without my truck for a week now, and i can only imagine the bill for fix this issue. I am hoping the gmc recognizes this is a problem and helps individuals with some cost to help fix an issue than has been ongoing with there product.
My gm provided replacement battery (replaced at 80,000 miles three and 1/2 years ago) failed with another dead cell.the warning signs were random: a "security" warning light on the dashboard, the window safety lock became inoperable, windows wouldn't sometimes open or close, alternator wouldn't charge and the radio was locked, etc.. My golden retriever/dog could have been choked by the electric window control as she stands on the armrest with her head out the half open window.instead, we were very lucky in that the window opened all of the way instead and she didn't fall out.this window control is the toggle type, pre the safety ones. The original equipment battery also failed with a dead cell.
Problems is associated with the instrument panel gauges. Specifically with the rpm gauge. It reflects erratic rpm's when it first started the needle would raise to between 5-6k rpms when at idle, after approx 2 weeks it would reset itself to normal, approx 2-3 weeks later it would register approx 6-7k rpms then reset itself once again to normal. Now it is pegged all the way around and pointing due south, it attempts to reset itself but will not. I am also seeing erratic indications on the fuel gauge. On the edmunds envoy forum there are quite a few envoy owners that are having the same problems, some are having speedometer level problems. Was in connect with gmc representative and she could/would not help since my vehicle was out of warranty. I even suggested that they pay at least 1/2 the cost of repairs. I believe this a component failure and could possibly become a safety issue especially with the speedometer and gas gauge problems. The probability of also having speedometer failure in the near future is pretty good bet.
I purchased my 2003 gmc envoy xl in 2008 from a ny dealer with 60,000 miles on it, the car didn't register any accidents with carfax. The day after i purchased the car my battery went dead and i was stranded at 7am with my kids. The dealer paid for the tow and replaced the battery.a year later while driving to my sons basketball game at night, the headlights completely shut off. I pulled over and used my hazards, my son inspected the lights and could smell something was burning..the driver side headlight wire was burnt badly. We replaced the light and the wiring. The next day not only did the lights shut off again while driving at night, but i couldn't put my window up! the driver side window panel did not work, but the other windows worked fine. I paid $400 to have the panel replaced. (now the seat adjustment panel is not working on the driver side)the battery has been replaced 3 times in 3 years! when ever i would use the window, or the heat vent, or the charger inlets in my car the headlights would flicker dim. My mechanic did a amps checkwhile my phone was plugged in,car was running, radio on, and heater on and stated the amps were fine, until i hit the window button, then the amps went way down. Cost to replace alternator$350.00, that was in 2010, so far in 2011 i have awoken 3 mornings in a row to a dead car. I sat in the car with car off, doors locked one night to see what goes on over night..well the alarm sensor button didn't stop blinking red, the seat adjustments kept moving every 4 mins, the rearview mirrors were moving non stop, and the horrible beeping sound inside the car was non stop! the radio dash didn't shut off either, it was piping hot after a half hour of sitting.
It's seems crazy to me that this agency that was created to protect consumers from faulty vehicles can let so many complaints against this manufacturer that was bailed out by taxpayers money can be so blind to the gross negligence on gmc part. I have spent count less hours and way too much money on this vehicle, only to find out that many other consumers are reporting the same problems. I have literally sat down and cried vowing never to by another american made car because they are pieces of junk (and that is putting it nicely). I have paid to replace the oxygen sensor and all that goes with that; the catalyst converter twice; the electrical system throughout the vehicle and now my radio doesn't work because there is a short that is draining the battery when the car is turned off; the speed control (mph/rpm) doesn't work and i only pray that i'm not speeding while i'm driving; the rear wiper blade works when it feels like it; my car interior constantly smells like gasoline and when i'm filling up my tank it there is always spillage; my ses light constantly stays on and since my state practices emission control i hold my breath and pray that i pass the test so i can legally drive my car. These are just some of the problems that i face with this car and frankly this year i'm not working so coming up with the money to pay again to have a mechanic remove the ses light so i can go have the emission testing performed is ridiculous and draining a wallet that is very much empty. My car now has more mileage & i haven't heard my radio in over 2 years because they don't know what is wrong so they just disconnected it. Why haven't the nhtsa/dot required gmc to fix what they know is broken and a hazard on the roads? i would strongly recommend that the nhtsa take this seriously before someone loses control and people lives are lost. Don't let this become another toyota issue.
Dash indicator lights come on, then goes off. This problem occurs even while driving and the vehicle is warm. This is a scary thing not knowing if the air bag is going to shoot out while you are driving. My kids drive this envoy xl, and to think that they may get hurt not by another driver but by the vehicle they are driving. This is like russian roulette. Do someone have to get hurt before you fix this.
Speedometer fluctuates between not working at all to simply displaying an obviously incorrect speed.
While driving the envoy the speedometer stopped working properly, nothing i did would reset it.so i took it to the dealer and $650.00 later it was fixed.
The side-mirrors, particularly on the driver's side, moved to different positions even with all curb parking features disabled.the happenedwith almost every use.2.the speedometer gavefalse readings and for no particular reason or speed.it may be pegged at 120 while at idle.it will randomly reset or fail frequently.
Headlight switch overheated and caused circuit panel to catch on fire.
Speedometer on my 03' envoy sticks, it says i am going like 60 when i just cranked the car. Once you turn off the car the speedometer still reads the top speed you were going. This is horrible, i have been doing research and alot of people have this problem!! gmc needs to recall this fault and have it replaced!
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy. While driving approximately 35 mph the speedometer reading began to fluctuate. The contact stated that while at a stop sign, the speedometer displayed 50 mph. The fuel, rpms, water temperature, battery and the oil pressure gauge fluctuated as well. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
2003 gmc envoy had speedometer needle move to 120 mph and would not register proper speed on highway.once parked, cycling the engine (on/off/on/off) caused the needle to return to zero while parked.this has happenedtwice (dec 18, 2009 and feb 4, 2010).the speedometer does not operate smoothly but rather increases or decreases in 1 mph increments in a 'jerky motion'... This must be a safety issue on this vehicle.
We have had several problems from the rear windows in the rear of the vehicle. The regulators have broken allowing the window to fall down into the door. This usually happens a bad time such as in a storm. The dealer has replaced the regulator.the brake light has been replaced several times for failure to work properly. The dealer has replaced the circuit board twice. The four wheel drive switch would shut off after you tried to put it back into 2-wheel drive. The dealer replaced a faulty switch. Several times the engine would stall and the instrument panel would go crazy. Now, the car is sitting in my yard and will not start. When you turn the ignition, the instrument panel shows that there is 40 pounds of oil pressure and the mph is 90 and the car is not even running. The dic says that the brake system needs servicing.
Purchased a 2003 envoy in november of 2010 at around 86000 miles in one month the instrument panel went out so no speedometer and affected the oil gauge.at exactly 100,000 miles the driver door panel went out could smell wires burning. Called dealer where purchased to trade in on vehicle in working order and he was able to find parts from junk yard to replacei was also informed the problems i had have become an epidemic for all gmc vehicles and people are spending a small fortune getting them repaired.just want to advise anyone reading this to stop buying anything made my gmc because they do not stand behind their faulty products nor does the government make them.
My gmc envoy cluster ( speedometer ) is not working properlysometimes it moves and sometime it just sit on zero, even if going 65 miles an hour.. The exterior headlight shot off one night when i was driving homei can only drive with full light. My mechanic stated it was due to an electrical problems... Gmc needs to do some recalls onsome issue on this truck... I have red similar issue with other truck owner.
The tachometer started acting erratically showing surges in the engine rpm.this problem came and went and now, february 2009, the speedometer is doing the same thing.i was doing 90 mph while the vehicle was turned off.i see this is a problem on gm vehicles and they are not addressing it.they are leaving it to the owner to pay a dealer $600 or more for repairs.
My odometer in my 2003 gmc envoy xl stopped working today.
Speedometer failure during highway driving.
I was returning from lunch, going over the vincent thomas bridge in l.a. Harbor. I looked out at the beautiful scenery, then looked at my speedometer. I was going 90 mph. I started to panic and went for the brake. My other senses kicked in and said "your not going 90 mph" .i looked around and nothing was wrong with my speed.the speedometer "said"all kinds of numbers. When i parked, i think it said 40mph.that was two months ago.since then the speedometer has read all kinds of wierd numbers. Sometimes it is actually pretty close, then it goes off the charts to 140mph.i had the dealer check it out, the vehicle has 79,000 miles. The dealer said that gm would cover it up to 70,000 miles.the dealer wanted $325.00 for the part and $200.00 to install it.i said no so he charged me $45.00 to check the electrical.besides the safety factors, what really bothered me was two things. 1) the dealer made this seem like an isolated case.this situaton is all over the internet.the dealer should have simply said "it's probally a stepper motor, it is a known problem,$ 500.00 to fix". Instead he played dumb and checked over my vehicle for $45.00. The second thing is, i took the instrument cluster out to take a look. It took me 15 minutes. Where does the dealer come up with $200.00the vehicle is substandard. Instead of owning up to the situation, the dealer usedthis situation to make money. There is a class action suit started and it is proper.gm could fix all these vehicles for less than $50.00 a piece, if they were smart.instead there are hundreds, maybe thousands of gm customers who have stated on the internet that they will never buy a gm product again. Go figure!
Driving the vehicle on the highway at approximately 75mph, gas gauge went completely down to e with a full tank. The needle was basically reading in the same position as when it is in the off position. After that happened the vehicle speedometer started reading incorrect speeds i will be at a dead stop and at a stop light and my speedometer will be reading 75 mph stuck. I know there was a class action lawsuit in 2007 approximately and listed certain gm vehicles but this one was not included. I think that gm needs to look at this affecting other models and makes they replaced some vehicles with this issue and the problem lies with the step motor in the cluster gauge. If you take the gm dealership they want to charge you $500 dollars to repair on a issue that is being replaced on other models. Please please get this to be recall this is a issue that will cause someone to get hurt very bad in a accident.
Dash indicator lights come on and stay on when temperatures are cold, mostly air bag, abs, parking brake light, all gauges do not work except speedometer. This problem has no trend other than when it is cold outside, could be coincidental.at times the check engine light was on with other lights. My vehicle only had 18,000 miles on it when this started, but the 3 year warranty was over. Gmc will not troubleshoot this problem unless i pay them almost $100 to start, and then a hourly fee. At times, these conditions exist and then later the instruments start working.does not seem to correlate to vehicle temperature.lights often stay on during entire trip and gauges are all off. When everything suddenly starts working correctly it does not appear to be because of a bump or warming of the vehicle. In decemberi tookvehicleto gmc, and the service representative indicated problems on work order.he put check battery, of course no troubleshooting took place. Since then i have contacted several gmc dealerships, they all want ridiculous fees to check it out. This vehicle has been kept in the heated garage and barely driven until january 2007. I think this is a safety issue because i don't know if it could cause a fire in the wiring. When the gauges are out, it is not possible to see how much gas you have or if oil/water is low. There is no way to monitor the functioning of the vehicle, or the air bags or the brake system.
Car dash blank at start, mirrors go every direction and must reset every time i start the vehicle.
While driving on the freeway, my speedometer said i was going slow, so i started to speed up, when i felt i was going to fast and moved to the offramp to slow down, the reading dropped to zero.it worked intermittently for a month and now doesn't work at all but a flicker every now and then.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy, and the speedometer is broken. Due to research on the web i'm seeing numerous people having the same issue. I have put a call into gm they are total ignorant (&*(*_*. This is a safety issue and not something i broke on my own or wore out. I have less than 70,000 miles on my vehicle. I called last year when it happened and the lady was one rude '!@#$%!! now this is a major problem. I have to get it fixed for inspection and it's not going to pass with it broken. I have no real income both my husband and i are unemployed!! so where is the money coming from? a credit card i can't pay off to begin with. Our taxes bailed them out, the least they can do is provide a safe vehicle, and the speedometer is not safe. I shouldn't have to pay for defective merchandise/parts!!! help the poor folk here!!! this is a safety problem. It needs to be taken care of at their cost not the poor struggling class of people!!!!
Speedometer pegged out, acting erratic...no warning; just started while driving around 35 mph. Speedometer does not work ! recall please !
Speedometer stopped working. It now registers speeds much higher then being driven. In addition the fuel gauge stopped working and the needle points to the floor. The dealer states this is a very common problem and that the instrument cluster needs to be replaced for $600. The envoy only has 48,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl.the contact stated that the vehicle cranks, but will not start.the dials on all the instrument panel gauges move up and down.the dealer changed the ignition switch, but the failure recurred.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 74,000 and failure mileage was 34,000.
On 2/15/07 i was driving to work at approximately 50mph when all of a sudden the steering went out, brakes locked up, all gauges went erratic bouncing from side to side and the heater started blowing cold air upon this happening i nearly went into a creek however struggling did manage to safely get the vehicle off the side of the road in a ditch.i had the vehicle towed to the local dealer when upon diagnosis the service manager informed me that the ignition switch had failed and all of the above components were tied into the switch.i at my own expense had the ignition replaced and the rpm gauge still does not work.i contacted gmc the very day of the incident to make them aware of this safety issue only to be bounced around to several different offices, none of which have made this safety issue a top priority.i have notated every conversation with every person that i have spoken to and what was said.i do not want to have to take the legal route, however i am prepared to do so.when ignition switches fail it should not shut down a vehicle in the manner that it does.although i was successful at not being injured or injuring anyone else that will not always be the case in this type of failure.
Intermittent electrical problems caused by ignition switch failures.in april 2004 at 15,000 miles and again in april 2005 at 33,000 miles, the ignition switch on my 2003 envoy xl failed.the symptoms in each case were abs/brake/traction lights staying on, no hvac fan, and no cruise control. The symptomsoccurred once every dozen starts, and finally reached a hard fail.in each case, the dealer mechanic identified codes set for multiple systems and replaced the ignition switch.with the most recent failure, the mechanic commented that they replace quite a few of these switches.
Ignition switch failure 2nd time.the vehicle will not shift out of first gear.then you could not put the car in park.

I had been driving and pulled into a fast food restaurant and when i got out of my vehicle i noticed the smell of gasoline being close to a gas station i thought nothing of it when getting back in my vehicle after retrieving my food i now smelled the gasoline inside my vehicle still thought nothing that maybe the fumes were just lingering until the next day when the smell was stronger so strong that my child with asthma immediately had to get out of the vehicle so being cautious as anyone i had my husband take a look he smelled the gasoline but couldn't find a leak so he took it to our local mechanic who then diagnosed the problem and removed the tank and replaced it with a used tank and whatever part was needed to fix the issue so since then i have not smelled anymore gasoline but my check engine light refuses to go off not to mention i receive a letter in the mail stating that there was some sort of recall on my exact year and make of vehicle and that i could send in a claim to get back the $500 i put into fixing the vehicle thinking it was now safe for my family so i paid to fix the problem only my new tank is used so i'm guessing i'll be having this issue again at some point which is very scary considering i drive my children in this vehicle plus i'm out the $500 still have the same issue which i cannot afford to fix again should the problem arise and i didn't keep the receipt from my mechanic thinking problem solved i put it aside it threw it away so i'm just curious is there anything i can do because knowing the tanks have issues and i've just paid $500 for another recalled tank pretty much so i'm at a point where i have no option but to take a loss on the money i paid to fix the vehicle before i knew about the recall not to mention i've had to replace the tie rods twice and it's popping again when i make turns i love this vehicle but now i'm super nervous of it
My car will shut off when i am either turning or slowing down without any warning, i put the car in neutral, turn the key off then on again and it starts like nothing happened. The engine doesn't show any warning lights it just shuts off. This has happened now about 6 times. I don't have the money to take it to the dealer, but if i am given an idea of what to look for i can take it to my mechanic who is very qualified and did replace a sensor that went bad. Please help
While driving the vehicle a strong odor of gas entering the cabin. Fill vehicle up and large amount of gas pours on the ground from under the vehicle. Closer inspection reveals the part that attaches to the gas tank is broken off causing vapors to escape and not providing a seal to contain the smell. While driving on the interstate at normal operating speed vehicle loses oil pressure causing it to drop to 0 and message appears to stop engine. Both incidents are safety hazards and can cause serious life an death incidents if issues are not addressed by the corporation. This occur on interstate 66 in washington, dc.immediate recall of all vehicles from gmc neeeds to be initiated.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. While the vehicle was stationary, the engine warning indicator remained illuminated. It was diagnosed that the fuel tank fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 155,000.
The rear driver door popped open and won't close. The fan clutch failed 2 weeks after i purchased the vehicle. I thought the transmission went out because it was winding really high and not driving normally. Also the rear passenger doors on both sides have malfunctioned. The window on the passenger rear went out. I have not corrected the failures as of now.
The consumerwas having a problem with the fuel intake which was causing the vehicle to shut down.the vehicle had been at the dealer on five different occasions for the same defect, but the problem recurred.the consumer contacted the manufacturer, but there was no help given to remedy the problem.the rpm's would drop while applying gas, within 2-3 seconds, the mph dropped to 30-40 mph with no warning.the consumer experienced 2-3 close encounters with other vehicles driving behind him. *sc
We bought this car used. Well before we bought it, they had the a/c fixed, due to it not working properly. Well the rear a/c and heat still do not work. Sometimes it comes on, and other times it does not. It does not give out heat at all in the rear. This is a real issue for us and many others with children. I have read plenty of other reports stating the same or very close. In all in all, this should be recalled and fixed. These cars are way to expensive to have this issue and not have gmc step up to the plate and fix their issue.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy which developed a problem with the fan clutch going bad which an extremely large number of people who own this model and the trailbrazer had also.the dealership service manager told me that they were completely backed up for a few days and could not get to my problem but without even checking it out, he knew what the problem was and said they have had to replace many.i feel as though there should be a recall due to the high volume of this problem.you can read many hundreds of complaints about this particular problem at this web site,http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_64655.html.there are no telling how many more would have posted such a complaint if they had known of this or other sites to do so.
Vehicle cooling fan clutch making ticking sounds due to the "pulsing of the solenoid as described in the technical service bulletin released by general motors (#05-06-06-004), which specifies not to replace fan clutch, but reprogram the pcm.this should be a recall covered by gm, since no parts are broken and the only problem is with the manufacturer's software.consumer can only get this fixed by gm dealer.this expense should be covered under a recall by gm since it involves only the defective computer program.the are not parts to replace, just a reprogramming of the computer.
Vehicle was designed with the coolant lines next to the catalytic converter.the fuel lineruptured in several places and sprayed coolant on the under carriage of the vehicle ,and the catalytic converter.
The engine on my 2003 envoy xl caught fire and the car was completely engulfed by the fire.the incident occurred after driving up a road rising 1500 vertical feet over a distance of 3.5 miles. No warning lights came on before someone outside the car alerted us to the fire. The vehicle had 36000 miles on it and had recently had all the recommended service completed including oil change and transmission and fuel system flushes.the one issue which the gmc dealer had been unable to fix was a leak to the front pinion seal.the dealer had the car for two days and could find no problem even though a very reputable repair shop had alerted us to the problem while performing the other maintenance and suggested that we have the dealer address the problem while the car was under warranty.after the dealer said there was nothing they could do i was told by a service manager that he didn't want to replace the seal because if it was something else it would have been a waste of money to replace the seal. The fire seemed to originate from a location a quarter of the way in from the passenger bumper about as far back as the tire. Since this incident happened within the last twelve hours i don't know what the cause could be.our insurance agent's claims adjuster will be looking into this i'm sure.there doesn't appear to be any recall related to this issue.we had seven people in the car today including 3 children and 2 senior citizens.luckily everyone was able to get out unharmed but we had no warning.had we not been in a location where someone saw the fire and alerted us i don't know what would have happened.what can we do to find the cause and make sure it doesn't happen to someone else?
One of the oil cooler line on my 2003 gmc envoy is cracked and leaking transmission fluid on the cataylic converter.this is a serious fire hazard due to the extremely high temperature of the converter during normal operations.
The consumer smelled gas, took the vehicle in and the fuel rail was replaced.later gas was smelled again, there was a vapor emission leak.then the check engine light came on and the fuel tank is being replaced twice.
Gas tank back spits when filling at station...goes all over groundrear access window pops open when driving passenger window mechanism broken and glass pieces formed in door.mechanism failed to raise and lower the window...causing a grinding sound.replacement was costly and unecessary for me the car owner.should work for years without failure.
No events led up to failure.exhaust manifold is cracked and leaking.gmc envoy xl slt 6 liter.have not yet received new part.will be replacing this week.
Vehicle was designed with the coolant lines next to the catalytic converter.the fuel lineruptured in several places and sprayed coolant on the under carriage of the vehicle ,and the catalytic converter.
The cataytic converter broke into pieces and the car would not go above 25 mph.
Since we have this vehicle the heating system fails to work properly. We have repeatedly had the dealer and a g.m. Representative try to repair this problem.after their attempts the system still doesn't operate correctly and now i am left with a defective air conditioning system that only works sometimes.i am hearing from other people thatknow who have this vehicle and the chevrolet version the trailblazer that they have very similar problems. In the wrong circumstances not having heat/defroster working properly could be a safety hazard, yet this fails to become a recall or alert to drivers.as far as the a/c problems my son actually got heat stroke in the back of the car on a very hot day due to the fact that only vent windows open in this area and unless the vehicle is in motion it becomes very hot in the third row of seats in this vehicle if the air is not working correctly. G.m. Should fix these vehicles! i have reported my problems to the better business bureau and i am hoping to return this vehicle to g.m. Early.this car has also had numerous electrical problems with the radio. I feel that since they tried to fix the heater they have screwed up something else in the electric since they had to reground the whole system and this ground has already had to be reground due to the fact that it disengaged itself from the vehicle, doesn't sound like a safe repair to me.
Dt: the contact stated the jack that the vehicle is equipped with is inadequate.the jack has two extension handles, but the extension handles are not long enough to be turned without getting under the vehicle.had a flat tire, and when the contactput the jack together she realized the jack handles were not long enough.her father had to crawl underneath the vehicle to use the handle.called the manufacturer about the jack handles ,and they stated the jack should be efficient, and if a person had to get under the vehicle,he would not be held responsible.
I had a flat tire and went to use the gmc provided jack and spare tire. The jack was held in by a large rubber band that broke as soon as i started to remove it. When i went to lower the spare tire down i heard a "crunch" come from the gear end of the spare tire pulley. The spare tire pulley, which was made of plastic, broke into pieces and wouldn't allow the tire to be lowered anymore or raised. Gmc should be ashamed of themselves for providing such a lousy system on something that is obviously usedin an emergency situation. Nice way to save a few dollars.
Exterior headlamps shut off while driving occasionally.now i can not get them to come back on.

In six years my 2003 envoy has had nothing but electrical issues.my lights are constantly being replaced. My head light wiring has shorted out and now the whole wiring connection needs replaced.the latest is an electrical system problem that is draining my battery and not allowing it to properly charge.
To whom it may concern.8/29/2012.i bought a used 2003 gmc envoyxl sle/sltand purchased the vehicle from sherman of skokie il.about this vehicle. The third brake light piece that covers the top of the rear window basically fell off the car on a windy day. The plastic piece that holds the third brake light broke leading to the entire piece falling off hanging by the 2 wires that connect for power. I live in algonquinil and recently have seen three other envoys with the same missing third light piece in a period of two weeks.i have looked up recalls for this vehicle but surprisingly have foundnone. Knowing i have personally seen several envoys with the same missing third light piece i think there needs to be a recall. Not only is this a safety hazard but it's the law to have a third brake light in illinois. I have not brought to a dealer since there was not a recall and i do not have the out of pocket cash to pay for this to be fixed.respectfully i would like this third brake light piece replaced and fixed at no cost to me. I do have the third light piece that fell off to give back to you so you can inspect it. I would like this fixed within 30 days of receiving this letter. I would appreciate your prompt response to this safety hazard and thank you for your time.this is the letter i sent gmc and they said there is nothing they can do!
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, she noticed that her headlights would go out and not come back on. The failure occurred three times. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who informed the contact that she needed to replace the socket and wiring to the headlight which melted the terminal. The headlamp socket and wiring were replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
While driving @ 35 mph i noticed a very loud rattle and heard a noise looking in my rearview mirror a saw the whole plastic top that fits over the hatch back and houses the third brake light, fly off into the air and land in the other lane of traffic.it ripped the brake light wire right out. Luckily no one was coming around the turn at the time.had to stop traffic to get it out of the road.this is a busy side road that comes to a stop light.
Headlight switch overheated and caused circuit panel to catch on fire.
Dt*: the contact stated, there have been four failures to the exterior turn signals as well as the brake lights. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for a recall notice where the exterior lights were replaced, but the problem continued. While driving at 35 mph, the left turn signal was engaged before making a left hand turn but the exterior light would not illuminate. The failure of the exterior lights resulted in the contact's vehicle being struck on the drivers side doors causing minor damage. No police report was filed.
Dt*: the contact stated the brake lights were loose and became inoperable.a nhtsa recall, #04v527000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the exterior lighting; brake lights however; the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 70 mph on the highway the brake light on top of the rear window fell off.the dealer was alerted. Updated 9/20/2006 -
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. While driving approximately 40 mph the turn signal was activated; however, the emergency hazard lights illuminated instead of the turn signal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure which continued to occur intermittently. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer twice with no resolution. The manufacturer advised the contact that his vin was not included in recall, nhtsa campaign id number 04v527000, exterior lighting, brake lights. The failure mileage was 35,000. The current mileage was 68,000.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy xl.i have to constantly replace head lamp bulbs as they continuously burn out.i also have a problem with the turn signal.if i have the heat on, the signal won't blink - just lights up.i am using today's date although this has been going on since late november.i also had the problem with the back doors and had to replace the latch on one of the doors in september and ican feel it going on the other door as well.
I am the owner of a 2003 gmc envoy.there is currently a recall on some 2003 gmc envoys regarding a turn signal defect nhtsa campaign id number 05v198000.with 286,478 potential vehicles affected.i took my car in and it is not within the vin range of affected vehicles.although my vehicle doses indeed have the intermittent incorrect turn signal problem, gmc is refusing to have it fixed because of my vin.
Gmc does not include my vin into recall campaign 05v198000. My car exhibits exactly the same problem as in this campaign - while making right turn signal hazard warning lights are flashing as well. This may create unsafe driving conditions by confusing other drivers. Gmc dealership has reported failed part as "flasher module", which is exactly the part addressed in nhtsa campaign. It seems that faulty part was installed in much larger number of vehicles then gmc is recalling.

Took my 2003 gmc envoy to my local garage because the clutch fan would not shut off.mechanic asked about the strong smell of fuel, and i said i was aware the tank needed to be replaced due to a crack where the fill tube goes into the tank.the mechanic said both are important to fix, but the fuel leak could be a deadly situation, and he would suggest tackling that defect first, but in order for car to run normal had to have clutch fan replaced too.total cost for tank related replacement: $1,058.04.total cost for clutch fan replacement: $719.50 total cost for taxes: $72.75.why haven't these well known defects been addressed in a recall.these are not inexpensive repairs we are talking about here, not to mention the potentially deadly consequences gmc is subjecting their consumers to.
2003 envoy slt---while filling gas tank, nozzle keeps clicking off, this happens everytime i get gas, remedy, turn gas nozzle upside down, brought to dealership once, malouf, north brunswick says nothing wrong, will bring back again. Also, when starting or turning off vehicle i get a strong odor of gas, will bring to dealership attention.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy that has the fuel gauge issue as well. For years i always have to make sure i have gas in the tank because i really never know how much gas a have. I can but $30 or $40 in gas in my tank and my gauge will read whatever it wants. It has shown that i have gas and i have ran out twice while driving. It is scary with two children in the car. I've seen that this is a major problem in other envoys particularly 2005 and up, but also see there are internet posts on complaints regarding 2003 models as well.
This is in addition to a previous complaint (tcn: dbn20-8138 refers. Yesterday my wife was driving my '03 gmc envoy when it stopped at one of the busiest intersections in town. Gas gauge registered 1/4 fuel. After pushing it to a parking lot and attempting to start the engine, it started to flutter and stop, then nothing. Thinking it was the battery, had it recharged and reinstalled, same symptoms. Thought of other owners of '03 envoys having probs with fuel gauge, decided to put more fuel which i was able to start the engine and drive it to my residence. The fuel gauge is a problem in addition to the rpm gauge as previously submitted. There are many envoy owners experiencing these same problems with additional ones as see on edmunds envoy forum. This could pose as a safety hazard, especially if my wife was turning into traffic and it suddenly died on her, rear-end collision would have been possible.
I own a 2003 gmc envoy xl and at times smell strong gas fumes while driving the vehicle.
(2003 gmc envoy xl)i have recently found that my wife and kids have been riding around in a vehicle that was an explosion waiting to happen. General motors has extended their warranty on fuel tank issues 3 times because of a flawed design. I had no knowledge of this before purchasing, as i believe i am the second owner of this vehicle. I have since seen that this issue has been brought to your attention but not to the magnitude to which it is occurring. I wonder if someone has to die a fiery death before this issue is addressed seriously ? i have compiledmany accounts of customers complaining of this issue and have records to share. I have contacted gm customer support, only to be put on hold for a total of 153 minutes in the realm of 4 calls with no resolution. This engineering failure consist of great numbers still on the road. Unlucky ones like myself will not have any knowledge of this until total failure occurs and at that time gm's poor design becomes the burden of the current owner. I need help understanding how such a safety risk can be swept under the rug with 493,579 of these vehicles being sold. I have found that the design was so bad that aftermarket suppliers do not even offer this tank. The only place to get one is from gm dealer at a price of $650.00, which is exorbitant for a piece of plastic. I need help with this matter but it's not just about me, your actions could save someone's lives !
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy.after the contact placed fuel in his vehicle, he continued to smell an odor of gasoline.he crawled underneath the vehicle and noticed fuel leaking on the outside of the gas tank.the gas tank weld was rusted and cracked, causing fuel to leak out of the tank.the contact also stated that the front suspension of the vehicle was banging whenever he drove over the smallest bump.in addition, the fan clutch was making a clicking sound.the dealer informed him that the vehicle was out of warranty and the repairs were his responsibility.the current and failure mileages were 88,000.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated there was an overpowering odor of gasoline form the interior of the vehicle. The contact also observed fuel leaking from under the vehicle at the fuel tank.the dealer verified there was a fuel leak but refused service. The vehicle was then taken to a local repair facility where he was awaiting repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and advised they would return his call with a decision if they would assist with repairs or allow repairs under his extended warranty. The failure and current mileages were 135,000.
Vehicle having the "service engine soon" light on and off for like a couple of weeks and then it came light on steady for a while and smell gas around it sometimes until i brought it for service at the dealership where i bought the vehicle. After some diagnostic they found trouble code p0442 evaporative leak detected. They performed evap leak with smoke detector but did not find any leak. Service tech found a leak around a metal seal at the upper part of the fuel tank.
Fuel pump outlet tube was found corroded through after informing the local gmc dealer of gasoline odors when getting out of vehicle. This vehicle was purchased new in brandon, florida and has always remained in florida.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy.from the beginning i've had problems with the electrical working properly (rearview mirrors, seat controls, etc).also, my fuel indicator and speedometer both went out at the same time.i believe gmc should take responsibility for the default and request a recall.i have read numerous complaints dealing with the very same issues on models from 2003 thru 2011.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy and there is a gas leak.i bought it in october 2006.in 2007, i took it to a gmc dealership for the check engine light, they said that it was probably caused by my not tightening the gas cap.since then, i have had problems with pumping gas into tank, problems with a gas smell when the tank is filled or if i go over a bump.now, there is reduced power.husband says it is on fuel filler neck.on several web pages, it says there was a recall only i am unable to find any information on it.a lot of people have had this problem, why has it not been recalled?i can't afford another vehicle and what happens if i get in a crash.we have 5 kids that i drive around.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy.lately i have smelt gas when outside and even inside the vehicle.after doing some research online, it appears that this is a common problem with these vehicles. This should be recalled with gm, this is a huge safety issue.since what makes gasoline explode is the vapors i would image that gm might have a death on their hands before long.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that when the fuel tank was being filled, fuel would leak as the service engine warning light illuminated. The contact also mentioned that the fuel tank would leak when the vehicle was in motion at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the entire fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 144,306. Updated 02/11/14*lj
I own a 2003 gmc envoy sle. Recently discovered a leak from gas tank. After making some research on the internet, i found that too many people have the same problem with the same car.
8/7/08 found on your web site nhtsa action #: pe07014; which states gm will expand its "special policy" to address the fuel tank inlet check valve fractures on certain model year gmc envoy xl and they will provide free repair of the fuel tank.it also states that gm would be sending letters to owners beginning in june of 2007 regarding this "special policy".i did not receive such a letter.i contacted gm today at 866-996-9463 regarding this "special policy", and this is the answer i received.since i was not granted such a letter, and gm did not include my vin # as part of a selected vin# mailing for this recall, i am not eligible for reimbursement of the monies spent to replace the gas tank.my complaint is this:my vehicle fits within the guidelines, meaning the make, model, year, and description of defect exactly matches that of what gm claims to be recalling, but since my vin # was not selected as part of the "lot" of vin # gm decided to send letters to, i am not eligible.that is not a acceptable reason for not reimbursing my expenses.
My dad was driving his 2003 gmc envoy xl home from work and he felt a small explosion and saw black smoke out of his rear view mirror. So he pulled over, got out, and there were flames underneath the car.within 5-10 minutes the car exploded.a fire fighter and state trooper pulled over to help him, and they both said the fire looked like it started from a fuel leak because the flames were "dripping" under the car. After researching recalls and complaints, i am infuriated that there were so many complaints filed over this problem, and even an investigation was done, but it was not considered serious enough to be a recall.i can't even think about what would have happened if he had waited to pull over at the next exit or the first explosion had been bigger.apparently, this is a problem with almost all years of this model since 2002.i hope nothing like this, or something worse, happens to anyone else... 2003 gmc envoy xl-- service engine light came on had vehicle checked. They decided the problem was a fuel cap. Replaced with new cap and service engine light comes back on. Take vehicle back and they check further and tell me i need a new gas tank. Notice when parked on an incline gas is leaking from tank at the inlet from the filler neck. During investigation on internet i've noticed alot of people complaining of the same problem with fuel leaks. Why no recall for fuel tank issues??? i haven't had the vehicle repaired yet because i was searching for possible recall. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow to see if they will cover this issue. If the vehicle is leaking fuel on an incline then i'm sure it has vapors escaping on level ground.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy that started smelling like gas. I took it to the dealer and they stated the filler tube and fuel assembly was under warranty. However the costly fuel tank was not. How can you have an item directly related to corrosion that caused the tank problem in the first place not be reimbursable. I am very disappointed in gm to allow customers to ride around with such a dangerous vehicle. Safety in not important to them.
There are various ongoing problems with the 2003 gmc envoy slt xl.*mrfuel flows out of the tank when pumping.the dealer had told the consumer to pump slowly, they replaced the emission canister vent solenoids, replaced the tank neck/hose and replaced the left tank.although these components have been replaced the problem still exist.the service manager came across a service bulletin that indicated there was a problem with the envoy like the consumer experienced.he stated he would order the filler upper pipe assembly and lower hose assembly.if this repair does not alleviate the problem the consumer request a refund or a replacement vehicle.
The gas tank on my 2003 gmc envoy xlt (80k miles) is leaking, especially when tank is full.there was a small puddle on the driveway. The problem actually started back around 50k miles with engine light on.i have taken it to dealer and mechanics before, but it was thought to be some sort of fuel cap problem or over sensitive sensors.however, today, because my gas tank was full, the dealer found that there are leaks caused by a crack tank and fuel tank neck.the fuel leak and vapor are so strong that i feared a small spark can set the whole vehicle on fire like a roman candle.car was used for everyday commute only.
The consumer smelled gas, took the vehicle in and the fuel rail was replaced.later gas was smelled again, there was a vapor emission leak.then the check engine light came on and the fuel tank is being replaced twice.
2003 gmc envoy xl fuel leak, my 2003 envoy xl developed a smell of gas, became stronger as time went by. The vehicle was taken to a gmc dealer, who found that the fuel pump module was leaking because of corrosion. We had to have the fuel pump module replaced at a cost of $953.10. The vehicle had 40,754 miles on it, and is 4 years old. The old part is not avaliable, the dealer kept it (mike smith buick gmc transit road lockport n.y.)
Fuel pump outlet tube corroded through causing a release of fuel under pressure, which sprayed over the top of the gas tank and ran down both sides of the tank, i feel this could have easily caused a fire with any type of ignition source. This premature failure (5 years) cost over $1,000.00.
Gasoline odor outside and inside vehicle.dealer found severe corrosion of fuel pump module, requiring replacement.they stated it was a common failure and had many prior examples.
Dt:2003 gmc envoy xl.the gas tank cracked where the hose was connected to the gas tank.took vehicle to mechanic afterthe check engine light came on and they said not to fill up more than half way. The fumes could cause an explosion.dealer had to order the tank.called manufacturer and they said there was no recall. This vehicle has not been in any accidents to cause this problem.
Fuel pump outlet tube was found corroded through after informing the local gmc dealer of gasoline odors when getting out of vehicle. This vehicle was purchased new in brandon, florida and has always remained in florida.
Check engine light has been on, told to get new gas cap, months later same problem, although this time mechanic found a crack in the neck of the hose that goes into gas tank. As i see in this section, appears to be a common problem. $800 later, i hope gmc will acknowledge the flaw and issue a recall? will this happen with my new tank too?
We have a 2003 gmc envoy xl. Our check engine soon light came on. We brought it into service twice and each time we left they said fixed, but soon thereafter the warning light came on. We were told they replaced the gas cap. We notice that when we go to fill with gas there is no whoosing sound when we remove the gas cap, and it is very difficult to fill with gas. The pump keeps clicking off like it is full. Some times it take 20 minutes to fuel the auto. We always smell the odor of gasoline. If we drive and stop somewhere, when we get out you can smell the gasoline.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. While approximately driving 55mph the vehicle made an excessive noise as if the vehicle shifted out of gear. The the gear shift indicator became inoperative disabling the vehicle from moving. The dealer stated that the transmission failed. They replaced the pump assembly, input drum shaft, perefeet shift, converter, and the ujc.in addition, she smelled a fuel odor when adding fuel into the fuel tank.the mechanic stated there was a leak in the fuel tank.there is a defect investigation for the fuel system, nhtsa action# ea07009.the failure mileage was 98,000 and current mileage was 108,000. The vin and engine size were unavailable.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph on normal road conditions, the check engine light illuminated, and a warning signal displayed on the vehicle's panel.also, the contact smelled gas fumes in and around the vehicle.it was taken to a dealership, who determined that the fuel tank had a leak; the filler neck was detached from the tank.the fuel tank was replaced which corrected the problem.updated 12/1/2006 - the filler neck did not connect properly to the tank which was found when the tank pressurized.the consumer fells that the connection of the neck and tank is a design flaw.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that when adding gasoline to the vehicle, the fuel tank began to leak. The contact stated that he was unable to add fuel to its capacity due to the leak. The vehicle had not been inspected by the dealer. The failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.
In the past three weeksi have smelled gas and started getting a check engine light did all the necessary steps to correct the problem come to find out the filler neck is broken away from the tank that has a huge potential of a fiery rear-end crash.cursing the net it seems i am not the only one and from some of the comments have lead me to believe that it is a common problem out there . Is there some way to get gm to fix their problem with their gas tank?
Service engine soon light came on, small emissions fuel leak, dealership wanted to replace fuel tank, obvious design flaw, hoping for recall.
2003 gmc envoy xl, check engine light on, smell of fuel, and leak when parked on hill.tookvehicle to dealer. It was out of warranty, butreplaced fuel tank, $979.11 repair bill.vehicle had 74,980 miles on it andhad problems for approximately 18,000 miles before having itfixed... Dealership said nothing about theproblem being possiblyepidemic.
The plastic gas tank on my 2003 envoy xl is cracked at the neck going into the tank releasing gas and gas fumes. Gas is leaking from the crack and could cause the vehicle to catch fire and/or explode.
Our 2003 gmc enovy xl has just had the gas tank replaced again due to cracking of the plastic tank.this obvious design flaw is happening between the fuel tank neck and the fuel tank.the engine check light came on and there was a gas smell.the vehicle wasn't accelerating as it should.
I was stopped at a drive up atm and the check engine light came on.i called onstar and theyasked that i check the gas cap which i did.later that day while parked on a sloping driveway for an hour i found gasoline leaked and covered the driveway.the cause was a crack in the gas tank just below the filler neck.i was out of the state; my son's mechanic said that i can drive home as long as the tank is less than half full.no prior repair on the fuel tank or required its removal.i called gmc andwas told that there was no recall but the person (tracy) that i spoke to said that this has occured to a number of vehicles gmc envoy xl 2003.my dealer even stocks the fuel tanks for the vehicle.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 5 mph during normal road conditions in a school zone, the gas light illuminated and a gas odor fumigated the vehicle.it was taken to the dealer, who determined that there was a crack in the gas tank which leaked vapors and the gas tank needed to be replaced.no repairs were made.updated 12/01/06.
Gas tank failed.had to replace at a cost of over $1000 on 2003 gmc envoy.have gas tank which failed - was retrieved from dealer when car was pick up if nhtsa is interested.should not have to replace a gas tank.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy xl. My check engine light came on. I had a mechanic hook his computer up to the vehicle. The code it gave was a bad gas cap. He replaced the gas cap and reset the computer. Two weeks later the check engine light came back on. I also smelled gas after filling the gas tank and noticed gas on my garage floor. I am having the gas tank dropped and checked this weekend. I wonder how many others are having the same problem?
I took my vehicle in for service because it failed emission testing and the repair shop told me that they have seen several vehicles like mine with a similar problem. I found that your nhtsa action number pe07014 is the problem that the repair shop found. I understand that the investigation into this is still open. The repair shop told me to contact the gmc dealer because they felt that the dealer should stand behind the problem and it is a safety issue. Will this become a recall issue and will the dealer need to replace the fuel tank at their expense?
I have a 2003 gmc envoy xl.my check engine light came on about 2-weeks ago.i took it into the dealer only to find out that my fuel tank had a leak.the dealer stated it was cracked at the filler neck at the tank.the tank had been leaking fuel and had to be replaced.in researching this on nhtsa, it appears that this has been happening to other consumers.
I have a fuel leak at the point where the fuel filler hose enters the fuel tank.i have researched this on the internet to find this is a very common problem with this vehicle.i feel that this is problem has the potential to cause fires and explosions.
(2)fuel tank leaks at filler tube(3)fuel tank was replaced.
Dt: the contact statedthe gas tank on2003 gmc envoy had a leak in it where the spout went into the tank.he noticed this when the service enginelight came on. He tookvehicleto the dealer, and the dealer replaced the gas tank.the contact feltgmc should pay the expenses.
Took 2003 gmc envoy xl to dealer to investigate engine service soon light - found po422 code - small leak at gas tank filler neck. Checked internet found several owners that have experienced similar problem - fix is to replace entire gas tank at a cost of $800.00.
When filling my gas tank, i have had a few issues with the pump shutting off too quickly as if the tank is full.however, i have also had the opposite at one particular gas station.each time i got to this particular station, the gas pump clicks off, but gas continues to flow and spills into the tank and all over the vehicle.this only happens with my gmc envoy and not any other family or friends' vehicles at the same gas station.it happens each and every time with the envoy so we have had to stop using that station for the envoy fill-ups.after seeing the many complaints about the cracked gas hose and issues with leaks, i wanted to make sure that someone knows there are a lot of problems with the gas tanks on the envoys.i am very concerned that the design ofthe gas tank and assembly is a faulty design and will result in injuries.
My service engine light came on and then i started detecting a odor of gasoline.the order grew stronger and then i got the "special notice", but not a recall about the corrosion in the fuel tank.when i took the car into the dealer, i was told that this was not the problem and that it was a crack at the filler pipe on the gas tank and that this was not covered.i asked what could cause this and they could not give me an answer.my car only has 49,000 miles and is in excellent shape, except for all the recall items.i believe that gmc should fix this problem, not only it is costly to fix, but it is very dangerous to be driving like this.and reading the complaints, it sounds like several others have the same issue.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. While driving 30 mph, the fuel gauge fluctuated and failed to properly display the amount of fuel in the tank. The lack of fuel caused the vehicle to stall. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
I own an envoy xl and notice a gas smell everytime i fill up it last about a week or, until im low on gas so i did some searching on the internet and notice a lot of envoys have the same problem the weld around the fuel tank neck has come completely off so fuel is leaking and is a fire hazard. Can anyone tell me why this is not a recall if so many suv's having the same problem.
Mechanic said fuel rail ruptured due to a faulty fuel pressure regulator and leaked gasoline in engine compartment that could have caused a fire injuring occupants. Repairs cost 1400dollars
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact noticed a strong fuel odor inside the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to manfredi chevrolet (2519 hylan blvd, staten island, ny 10306, (347) 979-0291) per an unknown recall regarding the fuel tank. The contact was informed that the failure was not related to the recall. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
I had been driving and pulled into a fast food restaurant and when i got out of my vehicle i noticed the smell of gasoline being close to a gas station i thought nothing of it when getting back in my vehicle after retrieving my food i now smelled the gasoline inside my vehicle still thought nothing that maybe the fumes were just lingering until the next day when the smell was stronger so strong that my child with asthma immediately had to get out of the vehicle so being cautious as anyone i had my husband take a look he smelled the gasoline but couldn't find a leak so he took it to our local mechanic who then diagnosed the problem and removed the tank and replaced it with a used tank and whatever part was needed to fix the issue so since then i have not smelled anymore gasoline but my check engine light refuses to go off not to mention i receive a letter in the mail stating that there was some sort of recall on my exact year and make of vehicle and that i could send in a claim to get back the $500 i put into fixing the vehicle thinking it was now safe for my family so i paid to fix the problem only my new tank is used so i'm guessing i'll be having this issue again at some point which is very scary considering i drive my children in this vehicle plus i'm out the $500 still have the same issue which i cannot afford to fix again should the problem arise and i didn't keep the receipt from my mechanic thinking problem solved i put it aside it threw it away so i'm just curious is there anything i can do because knowing the tanks have issues and i've just paid $500 for another recalled tank pretty much so i'm at a point where i have no option but to take a loss on the money i paid to fix the vehicle before i knew about the recall not to mention i've had to replace the tie rods twice and it's popping again when i make turns i love this vehicle but now i'm super nervous of it
It's seems crazy to me that this agency that was created to protect consumers from faulty vehicles can let so many complaints against this manufacturer that was bailed out by taxpayers money can be so blind to the gross negligence on gmc part.
When in park position heavy gas fumes coming from a leak at the top of the tank. You can visually see the gas stains on the sides and bottom of tank.when rolling to a stop the fumes return.i'm getting headaches and burning of my eyes and throat.i checked my vin for recalls, the parts involved are#14423c fuel tank inlet check valve fracture, and #07076a fuel tank modular reservoir assembly corrosion#12166 fuel filler neck..i'm afraid every time i drive it that i could be bodily harmed at any given moment, a spark, someone flicking a cigarette,a accident, anything that would trigger a spark.
Please help
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. The contact stated that the filler pipe was fractured and caused the bladder to leak. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the bladder and filler neck needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
The fuel inlet seal on the top of the fuel tank had separated causing a smell of fuel and allowing matter to enter the fuel tank from the top...possibly causing the premature failing of the fuel pump.we understand gmc has extended the warranty on the vehicle for this issue to 150,000 miles.our vehicle had over 155,000 miles when the problem occured but we never received notification from gmc of the extended warranty.had we received this notification we would have taken in the vehicle for an immediate repair.the fuel pump failed and we had to purchase a new fuel tank (as a result of the faulty top seal) and fuel pump...costing us almost $1,700.we have a copy of the repair bill but i am unable to scan and upload it here at this time...i am in the military and will be moving to korea in april, 2016
I own a 2003 gmc envoy.the drivers side rear door latch has become inoperable.the door latches maybe 1 in 10 tries.i found a recall but they are telling me mine is not covered under this recall even though it is the exact problem an i am in one of the states that it covers.
Rear doors (back seat) malfunction, either they do not open or they do not latch and close.
In six years my 2003 envoy has had nothing but electrical issues.my lights are constantly being replaced. My head light wiring has shorted out and now the whole wiring connection needs replaced.the latest is an electrical system problem that is draining my battery and not allowing it to properly charge.
My 2003 gmc envoy xl sle has a latch problem on the back doors, it has already been fixed but isn't resolved and the driver headlamp constantly burns out, 3 times in the last 2 months. I called on a recall but there isn't one. Its going to cause an accident at some point. The last time i tried to fix it the socket was burnt and plastic melted, that could've caused a major fire. I am very unhappy and don't know what can be done here, im going to get in big trouble because i can't put in another bulb it will cause more fire.
While making a right turn out of parking lot, the back let door opened, even though it was locked.i was unable to close the door.
Dt*: the contact stated on 10-14-04 both rear door latches were replaced because the doors were failing to lock.in 2-06 the contact received a recall letter concerning the latches/locks and linkages; nhtsa recall # 05v494000.on 3-13-06 the dealership replaced the weather stripping around the rear doors and inspected the vehicle for corrosion on the latches. The dealership determined there was no corrosion on the latches.on 4-8-06 while driving at 40 mph, as the contact was making a right turn, the passenger side rear door flew open, causing extensive damage to the front passenger door and to the rear passenger door. Both child safety locks were engaged at the time of the incident.the vehicle was towed to the dealership on 4-08-06.
Left rear door latch does not release 100% of the time, making it impossible to open door from outside.
Left rear door latch failed, while being replaced, i was informed right latch looked as bad. I paid $542 for these. When i contacted gmc they told me the seals had been replaced and supposedly the latches looked ok then and no i'm sorry, old parts are unavailable.
In four different cases on my 2003 gmc envoy the rear door latch mechanisms failed to work.in at least one case the left rear door failed to open from either the inside or the outside.the left rear door has stuck but never failed to open, although it is a fight to do so.the last time i returned the car they replaced the entire latch assembly on the right side, with the dealer telling me they have never had complaints.i found this to be untrue as conversations with many owners of the gmc envoy and chev. Trailblazer have seen the same thing.my biggest concern is that in the case of an emergency if the rear doors don't work how do we get our children out of the car.
Out back latch door, does not shut properly. You have to slam it, and it feels like it is going to break the glass. It seems like this should be a very big issue because if it fails to stay close like it sometimes does, it could be a very serious issue.
Lift gate, upper molding cracked when opening back hatch window. Poorly designed, contacted gmc basically my problem, even though local gmc dealer hasto replace several over the last few years. Also any vibration from the road causes the window and or gate to come unlatched while driving. Spoke to gmc in regards to that and i also checked for recalls. We purchased this vehicle used in 2006 its a 2003 gmc 4x4 slt xl 8-5.3l.
Rear hatch cover for 2003 gmc envoy xl, in winter climates, snow then ice collects and it can break, potentially come off going down the highway, could it cause an accident? hasn't happened yet, but they still have not changed the design, and according to former service writer at local dealership, they have repaired or replace several. First repair consists of using adhesive under hatch, doesn't last long. I consider it a design defect, that should be changed, again would only be a problem in winter climate areas. Incident date is date schedule for replacement of part.
Complaint regarding the transmission on 2003 gmc envoy xl. *mr *sc
One of the oil cooler line on my 2003 gmc envoy is cracked and leaking transmission fluid on the cataylic converter.this is a serious fire hazard due to the extremely high temperature of the converter during normal operations.
Vehicle was traveling a 65mph with no visible signs of trouble. The vehicle's pcm failed and the vehicle coasted to a stop and would not start. The pcm was replaced by the dealer and reprogrammed.
My front differential started to seize up while driving on a major highway. My car would made a grunting noise and slowed to almost a complete stop, good thing it was early morning and the traffic was not heavy. A car or truck could of easily ran into my bumper causing me serious injury or death. I called the repair place right away and they got me in immediately. The diagnosis was the front differential needs to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl. While approximately driving 55mph the vehicle made an excessive noise as if the vehicle shifted out of gear. I have a 2003 gmc envoy xl 6 cylinder. I purchased this vehicle new. Always serviced and only highway miles. My transmission gets stuck into 2nd and 3rd gear. It costs me $2300 to repair this issue. No support from dealer or gmc.
Dt: while driving at35-40 mph vehicle suddenly lost power and the steering was not operating .there was no response to the vehicle at all. This occurred in the middle of traffic ofa major highway.vehicle had to be towed to a dealership. A diagnostic test was done and the result showed the needto do an update of software for the transmission control module( ecm) and the power train, in general.they performed therepairs.the vehicle was serviced the week before this occurred.
Transmission line mounted too close to catalytic converter resulting in rubbing action that resulted in a hole in the transmission line spraying fluid on hot exhaust parts.had to pay to have hose replaced.don't know if the eventual failure of the transmission at 73k miles was related, but had to pay $2700 to get a new one installed.
My 2003 envoy with 68,000 was rear ended. Shortly after the accident i began to hear a cluncking noise when stopping. After i took the vehicle in to be repaired i was informed that it no longer would go in reverse. The problem appears to be the sunshell gear which seems to be a common failure with this transmission, because even though it was fine before the accident the dealer is claiming it was not caused by the accident and thus i am responsible for the estimated $2,500 to fix!
I smelled something burning after i parked my 2003 gmc envoy xl in the garage.after inspecting, noticed transmission fluid leaking on ground.towed to mechanic.told transmission cooler hose was laying next to catalytic converter - not secured.heat from cc rubbed hole in tc hose and therefore could have ignited vehicle. Since i had parked in the garage, it also could have burned my other vehicle and our house.mechanic replaced hose and secured.gmc will not acknowledge this is a problem since i did not take it to a dealer for repair and they cannot find any recall or bulletin on this problem.
Our envoy service engine soon light came on and then our envoy would not go past second gear. We took to gmc and was told that the transmission had to be replaced. They stated that the upper coolant line had been touching catalytic converter and caused all fluid to leak out causing the transmission to fail . We saw no fluids in driveway or smelled any strange odors.
I have an 03 envoy slt. The fan clutch just went out 3 days ago. I had heard the ticking sound before, but never the loud airplane sound until it finally broke completely. The dealer wants $720. After calling gm customer service (manny at 1866-952-4368, ext. 3-2786), he said because i have 119,000 miles on my car, there is not much they can do.i looked into this problem online and found this is a common problem.when i explained this to gm, he still doesn't know a lot about the issue.more complaints:- http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/chevrolet/trailblazer/r64655/comments/

The diagnosis was the front differential needs to be replaced.
After having several problems with my 2003 gmc envoy xl such as broken window, 4 wd broken, and many other problems i noticed a humming noise. Took it into the dealership to be serviced along with a bad switch in the driver's side door panel and was told the front differential is bad. It is being fixed now, but was told by several other mechanics that this sort of thing shouldn't happen to a new car and generally the differential should last the lifetime of the vehicle.
I have a gmc envoy 4wd, on 2 occasions the vehicle has locked the gear into 4wd and 4hi.vehicle will not respond to command to shift gears to normal driving in 2wd.in turn this leads to problem with the vehicle braking system--vehicle takes too long to stop during normal braking.the vehicle also becomes very unstable on the road--keeps shifting sides making hard to keep the vehicle in a straight alignment during driving.i had the vehicle inspected by a gmc authorized dealer in november, 2005 at which point they found out that there was a problem with the transfer case which causes it to break apart.this in turn causes all the other systems in the vehicle to malfunction because it's a computerized system.the transfer case was replaced which temporarily fixed the problem until feb, 2006 and the same problem recurred.i have made gmc aware of the problem and they referred me to the dealer.on speaking with the dealer i became aware that this is an ongoing problem with gmc envoy and the dealer is aware of the problem.the only way gmc is resolving the problem is referring customers to the dealer for a replacement on the transfer case--which happens to be the same one that keeps malfunctioning.at this point gmc does not have a different transfer case that will resolve the issue once and for all.gmc is also willing to fix your vehicle as long as it's under warranty but once it's out of warranty and the problems with the transfer case persist, you have to pay out of pocket.gmc is aware of this problem with the transfer case but they are not letting the consumers know.
Bought my gmc in april of this year 2007. Never had to use the 4x4. Unfortunately with 9 inches of snow tried the 4x4 for the first time and it did not work. Took it to the dealer and they said it was the transfer case was not working and needed to be replaced a 600 estimatedservice.
Added information 10.27/08 *cwupdated 10/27/08.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at any given speed on normal road conditions, the contact's power seat moved by itself. Because it happened unexpectedly, it created unsafe driving conditions. The seat can be manually reset however resetting the seat would not prevent the malfunctioning from recurring.when the incidents first occurred, the vehicle was under warranty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on 5/12/06 and has been there for 37 days so far with no repairs.
Consumercomplained there was not enough hot air to warm up thesecond and thirdraw backs seats. Dealer and manufacturer indicated we were aware of the problem.
2003 general motors gmc envoy xl did not provide sufficient braking when brakes were strongly applied in a low speed (10-15 mph) sudden stop resulting in a minor front end collision with the back of another vehicle that came to an abrupt stop.even though the brake pedal was strongly applied, the vehicle took more distance to stop then expected.vehicle was taken to dealership for inspection, but dealership did not acknowledge finding any problem.this vehicle does not have adequate stopping power in emergency situations.
Vehicle power steering hose busted. My truck isn't idling right it sounds like my transmission is slipping. Also my tire traction seems off and i repeatedly have to put air in tires. Tires always makes a certain sound on the highway, i don't know if its normal or not.
Power steering has been leaking. Took it to the shop to find it has two leaks. One in the return line on top of where the wheel well is (under a big piece of rubber holding it to the frame), and one in the power steering cooler.
2003 envoy xl , power steering cooler leaks!!!! constantly putting fluid in resevoir..there is a current recall for the exact same thing on the 2006 model, but the vehicle is exactly the same from 2003 thru 2006... I believe this recall for the 2006 model should include the 2003,2004 and 2005 models also since they are the same part for the vehicles.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl.occasionally, when the vehicle was started, the power steering would make a squealing noise.presently, the squealing noise occurs each morning when the vehicle is first started.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.the powertrain was unknown.the current mileage was 101,163 and failure mileage was 93,829.updated.
2003 gmc envoy has a massive power steering leak. It's coming out on the drivers side , behind the tire.
Ne wisconsin, driving on very cold and snow covered highways, the steering wheel became increasingly difficult to turn.after twenty minutes, lost all power steering.vehicle was inspected for:proper pwr strg fluid level (dip stick indicated full), any snow/ice obstructions between tire & inner fender (none), any fluid leaks (none), any puncture/ruptured hoses (none), any tire damageor improper inflation (all perfect).no noise from power steering pump at any speed, no pump shaft seal leak or pumpbearing noise, pulley/shaft are not overheating (no excess friction).vehicle has only 41k miles, has been treated with kid gloves and is serviced regularly at 3500 miles vs gmc recommended intervals. Though the vehicle was in 4-wheel high drive mode at the time, selecting 2wd, awd or 4wd lo makes no difference.vehicle is always parked in a heated garage and after sitting in 60f for 24 hours, problems remains.with all the steering complaints for the vehicle on this website (i have 11 printed, most recent 12/23/07), i cannot fathom why you continue to reply to owners with the same, canned letter?obviously, steering is a critical item on any vehicle.i truly feel a smaller/less experienced driver may have had a serious problem with the same incident with the same road conditions with horrible consequences.folks, something is wrong with gm's design of this pump.failures are virtually unheard of for almost every other make & model, import or domestic.please assist us with this ever-increasing problem.now i am left with the distasteful task of arguing with the gmc dealership.
When opening the trunk release to place groceries in back, the glass window in the back door shattered with a loud explosion sound.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy, that is rusting badly.recently this caused the transmission cooler to fail.also the rear brake shoe backing plates, the spare tire carrier, the tail gate, along with other parts.gmc has recognized the fuel filler neck corrosion, but not the entire vehicle.
My 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son opened the rear glass hatch to grab a shopping bag out of the back.as the glass hatch opened it shattered spraying glass on both of them causing minor cuts to their face, hands scalp.i was just walking up to them with my 1 year old son and had glass flung onto us with no injuries.
After unlocking and using the rear window glass multiple times daily, and twice earlier today, it exploded on the way up.this occurred within the first 1 inch of travel swinging up and rearward from being closed with very minimal manual force applied.the temperature today is 27deg.f , which is not the coldest use this vehicle has seen. There has not been any previous damage to the rear glass or gate, or anything in the rear of the vehicle. I write this at the advice of many online forum posts and complaints that i read through.i am hoping there is some time devoted by general motors to finding a solution to this. I just had to ride home with wife and 4 kids shivering because of this.there seem to be hundreds of these spontaneous occurrences happening in all types of climates and conditions, which is what convinced me i need to share my incident to fuel the cause.thank god everyone is ok.it was cold and my kids had their hoods up and were looking down when this happened.this could have been much worse.
We were driving on the road at 60 mph and the center high mount stop light assembly blew off.it was held on by the wires until we could get stopped and secure it.
The rear passenger door stop closing ....the latch is broken ...they had a recall on this in 2005 but claim it's close now what can i do?
I was in a mva july 22, 2015i was tboned on the drivers side and the went headon with a light pole and my airbags never deployed. I had many problems with the electrical in the truck since i purchased the truck. It was an as is with no warranty and i wasnt given any knowledge of problems or recalls.i suffered extensive injuries to my body and my truck was a total loss $10000 in damages to the vehicle.
The rear door closure on the passenger side flung open upon entering the on ramp for the highway.this vehicle now has two doors that will not latch, due to a manufacturing problem and recall.the dealership refuses to replace stating that the repair for the recall already took place, but has not...
Heavy clear coat and paint issues. Clear coat chipping, peeling and flaking off of paint, paint fading. The problem is severe, and happens in a very short amount of time.
We purchased our 2003 gmc envoy xl sle 8 cylinder brand new at alden buick in fairhaven, mass in july 2003; for the past 3 years we had it serviced at robertsson's gmc 2680 cranberry highway, wareham, mass.02571,508-291-0044. We had it reconditioned at this dealership last year, spending $4000.00; we had it inspected at this dealership with the massachusetts vehicle check; it passed the front end check and frame check on 8/4/17. I was driving the vehicle in late december, and hit several deep potholes caused by an ice storm; shortly thereafter i lost steering control of the vehicle. I had it towed to alden buick/gmc in fairhaven, mass. To be told that the entire frame had collapsed due to extensive corrosion and rust. I had it towed to robertson's gmc in wareham and filed a claim with commerce ins. Co. To hopefully cover the damage to the frame; commerce denied the claim stating"the frame assembly was severely rotted and this extensive rot allowed the right front control arm to break awayfrom the mounting point on the frame rail. Gmc issued a technical service bulletin stating that some envoy models suffered from extensive frame corrosion. Why did robertson's gmc pass the vehicle on the safety check, and why was i not informed of the vehicle's frame corrosion before i spent the $4000.00 reconditioning it? why is frame check and front end check listed as pass on my vehicle when this corrosion and rust was present at time of insspection? fortunately neither i nor any of my family members were injured while driving/riding in this vehicle.
The rear glass on the lift gate completely shattered/exploded while in garage.the car was stationary.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the rear doors were corroded which caused the doors not to latch. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 208,000.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl.the contact stated that the liftgate window detached from the vehicle.the glue failed that held the window to the liftgate.the dealer sated that the vehicle was included in recall campaign number 05v494000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch).the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 66,824 and failure mileage was 66,780.
I was dropping my boat off at the local storage yard where i keep it.i opened the rear hatch of my envoy to get a bucket out of the inside where i keep the boat's accessories.. The hatch was open for approximately 2 minutes when it exploded and rained glass all over me and into my right eye.it sounded like a shotgun went off, but i was the only person around.approximately one year earlier, thechmsl plastic flew off on the highway almost hitting another car that swerved to avoid it behind me. This is a common problem as i have come to find out and gm has redesigned the back door .mine sits in the driveway and i am not about to spend 700 on glass so it can happen again and possibly hurt someone else.
This was originally submitted on 10/14/2003, but because i don't see it on the nhtsa web site, i am resubmitting:the liftgate window of 2003 gmc envoy xl exploded/shattered when i tried to open it beyond the first few inches.a shower of glass resulted in a severe facial laceration to my 4-year old daughter.there is no warning whatsoever on the window or in the vehicle operating guide regarding such a danger.this defect is a major danger that could have resulted in even greater physical injury and has left a scar on my daughter's face. *la
I opened up my hatchback and heard a noise like something is breaking. I closed the hatchback and looked above to see if there was something stuck above in the hatchback door. There was nothing there and nothing found to be broken. I again tried to open it and again heard a clicking, cracking, breaking type noise. I called the dealer and they said they would look at it. Although i had just bought my car they refused to repair this because they said it was not covered by my warranty because it is considered "cosmetic". I was told there is something wrong with the hinges that hold the door. That does not sound cosmetic. I was also told that the door could fall off at anytime (not sure if this is true or a scare tactic to get me to spend big bucks to get it fixed) but that also does not sound like something cosmetic. It sounds much more serious to me and i am pretty upset that they are not recalling this since it seems like a serious issue that i was told is a common occurrence in my type of vehicle.
Rear hatch struts on 2003 gmc envoy failed without warning.door could have fallen and injured family members.it is too heavy to lift. Dealer said part was on 7 day backorder.
I took my 2003 gmc envoy to the dealer to have the back lift gate checked because i noticed that the plastic shield on top did not seem to be aligned correctly and when i open the lift gate it makes a cracking sound.i was informed by my dealer that the brackets that secure the lift gate are separating and need to be replaced.i have not had a crash or injury yet related to this.
Driving on highway when rear of vehicle felt like it was riding low. Got off highway at next exit to check back of truck.rear of truck was sitting low.turned truck off waited a few minutes, turned truck back on.the rear of the truck did not rise.this can not be safe for the rear suspension system to disengage while driving.i had previously noticed when the truck is first turned on that the rear suspension would engage and the rear of the vehicle would rise.
The contact stated that while parked and starting the vehicle, the rear end abnormally rose higher from the ground. In addition, the contact stated that when driving, the rear lowered near to the ground. The contact also mentioned that at times one side of the vehicle was higher than the other side. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. The vin was not available.

My 03 envoy xl air compressor will not inflate the air suspension. The rear end is sitting way down with a little bit of air in the shocks but will bottom out easily. The compressor comes on for about 30 sec to 1 min at startup but no increase in ride height. This is the second time this has happened - 1st time was about 3-4 months after i bought the car in 2006 and the dealership fixed it for free.i have been reading on-line and have seen similar complaints over the years for the model - 2003 gmc envoy xl.
The rear of my 2003 gmc envoy xl goes down after the vehicle is turned off.usually the rear of the vehicle goes back up after the vehicle has been on for a couple of minutes. Once, though, the rear suspension failed while driving. Now my the rear on my vehicle is dawnthis is a second timeand no goes up that look danger for drive.
For the last 6 months, the rear of our 2003 gmc envoy xl goes down after the vehicle is turned off.we have had the compressor for the suspension replaced but it continues to happen.usually the rear of the vehicle goes back up after the vehicle has been on for a couple of minutes.once, though, the rear suspension failed while driving.
While driving the vehicle's right fronttire blewout without warning.the tire separated from the rim and hit the rear of the vehicle causing damage.the rim was also damaged during the blowout.
My vehicle was sitting in the drive way and a loud shattering noise was heard from the house and went outside to look at what it was and noticed that my back window of my vehicle was in a million pieces on the ground and all over my vehicle and in my car seats for my children. The blower motor for the front control quite working a week ago and the right back door will not latch.
While driving down a busy michigan highway i heard some rattling noise and looked in my rear view mirror as the entire panel above the rear hatch that holds the third brake light flew off my car. I wasn't able to retrieve it since it landed in the middle of the highway.i hope no one ran over the part causing damage to their car or worse yet swerving to miss it and causing injury or death. I have since seen 4 other envoy xl's missing the same part! that's 4 other vehicles in my little town causing 4 potential accidents or deaths. After doing some research, it will cost approximately $520 for parts to replace and impossible to find in a junk yard. I would love to know how to proceed from here.
Vehicle power steering hose busted. My truck isn't idling right it sounds like my transmission is slipping. Also my tire traction seems off and i repeatedly have to put air in tires. Tires always makes a certain sound on the highway, i don't know if its normal or not.
Driving in a school zone looked at speedometer to check speed i was in a 40 mph zone and speedometer said i was doing 70 mph. School zone had a " your speed is" display and i was only going 38 mph. The speedometer increased as i increased speed but was 30 mph over. After i got home and turned my truck off the speedometer still showed mph.
Speedometer pegged out, acting erratic...no warning; just started while driving around 35 mph. Speedometer does not work ! recall please !
While opening my tailgate window to unload groceries, the glass exploded and shattered into tiny pieces.other than a few scratches, i had no injuries despite glass raining down on me.i've read multiple accounts of this happening to other envoy owners.gmc needs to do something about this before someone is seriously injured!

I went inside wal-mart for maybe 1/2 hour and when i came out the window was busted out. We thought some punk smashed the window so we called the police. They watched the video of the parking lot and they said that there was no one by the car when it happened. I don't see how it can just "magically" smash into thousands of pieces with no one around but after reading through other complaints i can see that i'm not alone. Of the 202 complaints on here there are 10 (this makes 11) incidences where this has happened and gmc is not recalling them? i just don't understand. It is going to cost me $500.00 for a brand new window and it is a week and a half before christmas. We tried to find one in the junkyards but they cost almost as much as a new one. I am so frustrated right now.
No way to turn off the air/vent/heat system.breeze blowing in 24x7 and the "recirculate" button only works when the fan is on.extremely irritating when driving behind a bus, or in a dust storm, or during a fire.it is highly irritating to have air blowing in your eyes all the time, or on your feet making you cold; or the opposite during the summer.what if i don't want air blowing on me, hot or cold?i think it is dangerous to have to always fiddle with the temperature controls trying to make it comfortable while driving.if i had known this car was designed like this, i never would have bought it.now i'm stuck with a car payment i never had before and a very sad situation.
Gmc envoy 2003 rear glass shattered without any apparent reason.
On 12/5/2013, i left the schnucks grocery store around 4pm for home. When i arrived at home, i backed in the garage and my husband was waiting at the garage door for me so he could get the groceries. As i was getting out of my 2003 gmc envoy xl, my husband was getting the groceries and started to tell me something when all of a sudden i heard this extremely loud pop/explosion (like a gun shot) and glass shattered everywhere. I didn't know what happened and immediately asked my husband if he was ok. The shattered glass had cut him on his forehead. There was glass shattered everyone in the suv, in my groceries, in the garage, in my husband's hoodie, and even on my 2013 charger next to it. The hinges were off to the side of the envoy with some hanging glass still attached. And what's even more shocking is that the rear broken window kept popping at the hinges and pieces of remaining glass would continue to break off and drop. I contacted gm about the vehicle to replace my window and to tell them what happened, but they said that since i have 137,000miles and had the vehicle ten years, it's out of warranty. I told them that was ridiculous because it should not matter whether it's out of warranty if the vehicle gm made is defective because there was nothing wrong with my envoy until now. I'm pursuing matters further so they have not heard the last from me. I would recommend to also contact the attorney general's office to file a complaint because gm has to be held accountable for their actions. I will also be contacting the president of the gm company because my husband could have been seriously hurt and they need to incur the costs of repairs, not me.

Windshield wiper problems as outlined in recall nhtsa #ea04002.my dealer says my vehicle is not in the recall but the problems are exactly as described.i have purchased a wiper motor i did not need.
Following an independence day baseball game and fireworks display, i went to the parking lot to load my family and some personal belongings.i opened the rear hatch and felt a slight baulking on the right side.in the next fraction of a second a shot gun sound went off and the window exploded in my face raining heavy glass into the back of the car and the parking lot.miraculously, i received only a minor cut across my eyebrow, but a large chunk was cut out of the thumb of my right hand for which i had to go to urgent care and may have to consult with a plastic surgeon as it heals/ scars in order to retain flexibility in my thumb.
Blower motor stayedon when vehiclewas shut off.would drain battery. Dealer replaced blower control module. $246.20 billof repairs.
I was opening the rear window to retrieve belongings when the window exploded glass fragments all over me as well as the inside and outside the vehicle. Fortunately, no one was hurt. This is very dangerous!
*la
Opened rear window to 2003 gmc envoywindow shattered no contact two young sons nearby one received cuts from glass.
Both rear windows dropped open without reason or cause during highway operation.first window was repaired under warranty, second failure occurred outside of warranty.
(1) events leading up to the failure, - (a) regulator in driver side middle seat door window regulator failed prior to 36000 and- (b) passenger side middle seat door window regulator failed at 43000 miles(2) a- window failed to operate at no chargeb- new regulator installed - $200 + charge(3) parts replaced for prior to warrantycharge over $200 for second failure.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy.while driving, my daughter attempted to put down the window in the back seat but found it was "jammed"...it would not go up or down.i took it to the dealer who stated the regulator had to be replaced.in researching the nhtsa site, it appears that other consumers have had the same problems.
Car dash blank at start, mirrors go every direction and must reset every time i start the vehicle.
I have a 2003 gmc envoy.i have had problems with my outside mirrors moving wildly upon starting of the vehicle.this is the second incident i have had with my outside mirrors.it started in the fall of 2004, with the passenger mirror moving wildly (i took it to the dealer who stated it had lost its "program").it worked fine for a few months, then started again.now the driver mirror is doing the same thing.i took it to the dealer who stated "mirror motors" need replaced for about $314.in researching this on nhtsa, it appears other consumers are having the same problems.
The contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy xl.the contact stated that the windshield wipers failed.the wipers would continue to operate and could not be shut off.the dealer stated that the windshield motor was defective.the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 04v046000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer).the current and failure mileages were less than 86,000.updated 04-23-09 updated 04/30/09.
Dt*: the contact stated while traveling various speeds in rainy wet road conditions, the windshield wiper system would not turn off, once activated.the vehicle must be stopped and turned off, in order to turn off the wipers.the problem only occurred during rainy conditions.there was a nhtsa recall, #04v046000, regarding the visibility: windshield wiper/washer.the service dealer and the manufacturer were contacted, and determined the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.the contact expressed concern that the wiper problem could worsened and pose a risk to safety.
Dt:consumer states the windshield wipers on his vehicle will not turn off.the vehicle has not been to a service dealer. There is a recall on the specific year of this vehicle, but his vin does not fall under the recall campaign.
I had been driving and pulled into a fast food restaurant and when i got out of my vehicle i noticed the smell of gasoline being close to a gas station i thought nothing of it when getting back in my vehicle after retrieving my food i now smelled the gasoline inside my vehicle still thought nothing that maybe the fumes were just lingering until the next day when the smell was stronger so strong that my child with asthma immediately had to get out of the vehicle so being cautious as anyone i had my husband take a look he smelled the gasoline but couldn't find a leak so he took it to our local mechanic who then diagnosed the problem and removed the tank and replaced it with a used tank and whatever part was needed to fix the issue so since then i have not smelled anymore gasoline but my check engine light refuses to go off not to mention i receive a letter in the mail stating that there was some sort of recall on my exact year and make of vehicle and that i could send in a claim to get back the $500 i put into fixing the vehicle thinking it was now safe for my family so i paid to fix the problem only my new tank is used so i'm guessing i'll be having this issue again at some point which is very scary considering i drive my children in this vehicle plus i'm out the $500 still have the same issue which i cannot afford to fix again should the problem arise and i didn't keep the receipt from my mechanic thinking problem solved i put it aside it threw it away so i'm just curious is there anything i can do because knowing the tanks have issues and i've just paid $500 for another recalled tank pretty much so i'm at a point where i have no option but to take a loss on the money i paid to fix the vehicle before i knew about the recall not to mention i've had to replace the tie rods twice and it's popping again when i make turns i love this vehicle but now i'm super nervous of it
Vehicle power steering hose busted. My truck isn't idling right it sounds like my transmission is slipping. Also my tire traction seems off and i repeatedly have to put air in tires. Tires always makes a certain sound on the highway, i don't know if its normal or not.
