Vehicle was involved in two vehicle accident.driver airbag in 2016 canyon failed to deploy upon impact with other vehicle.accident occurred on acity street in gulfport, ms. Was going straight at posted speed of 35mph, second vehicle failed to yield at cross street."t" boned 2nd vehicle in driver door.

We recently purchased a 2016 canyon truck for about 45k with the new small diesel engine.on 10-19-16 we took it in to dealership for routine service and a major loud vibration rattling under the dash in the passenger air bag area.when we picked vehicle up we were told that they did not have a fix for noise coming from under dash air bag area and others canyons have been in for the same problem and that they are dealership waiting on procedure from gmc for fix?we have a concern that this could be a safety issue, since noise is coming from air bag area and would like your expeditious attention regarding this matter.

Vehicle ignition key can not be removed and it does not stay in park. Vehicle can crash causing injuries and property damagevehicle has about 35000k miles under warrenty and gmc refuses to do any thing about it.

I have a friend who has a 2016 gmc canyon where the radio/onstar/rear view camera etc cuts out after a short operation time -- my friend has taken it to the dealer with no results. My fiend is elderly and does not have a computer that is why i am doing this for him. The back-up camera does not operate when the radio/onstar/camera cuts out. The operation of the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street or a highway, turning

Rear window defroster on passenger side of sliding rear windows does not work.many complaints online of same problem.

When turning off vehicle the key will not to ā€œoffā€¯ mode. It stays in accessories mode and prevents the key from being able to be removed.

Traveling down city street approx 35mph vehicle unexpectedly shut off, dash went dark but infotainment system continued to work. Loss of all power. Brakes shuttered when attempting to come to a stop. Put the vehicle in park, turned it off, and back on. Vehicle drove normally after that.

I was driving on a freeway 80mph and the steering went out. This caused the vehicle to veer from the left lane into the center lane, fortunately there was no vehicle in the center lane. Gmc stated it was just a defective part. My opinion is that it is a failed design that would allow a vehicle to loose steering at 80mph. The vehicle has 46,700mi. I have had noises in the front and rear of the vehicle and am concerned that this may have contributed to the loss of steering. I have returned the vehicle to gm five times to fix the noises with no success.

When i'm driving my truck my warning lights come on like power steering isn't working ( which it does still work), abs light comes on, brake light comes on, and traction control light comes on. The truck runs fine like there no issues. We even replaced the battery and it still does it. Gmc looked at it and said it was fine which i doubt.

While driving, the instrument panel shut down and then rebooted as if i was starting the vehicle even though the engine never shut off.

My wife and i were traveling at approximately 55 miles an hour when all dash lights nav system gauges etc. Turned off. It was as if i turn the ignition off. Then it turned itself back on and seem to function normally.the vehicle had a similar problem previous to this and there was a recall performed on it recently. Also this vehicle is supposed to get close to 30 mpg and now the best i can get is 21 mpg. It has had a rough idle and shut down on me several timesduring the last few years. I feel like this vehicle is unsafe and gmc should be held accountable. I bought this vehicle because i wanted good fuel economy from a diesel and that is not the case. This vehicle has had a number of major issues and numerous recalls but none have addressed the vehicle shutdown. I have read multiple accounts of owners nearly getting killed when their vehicle randomly shuts off while driving. The vehicle seems unsafe and i feel they misrepresented the fuel economy of the diesel engine.

Rodents are eating the wiring in my new truck. I've driven a nissan truck for 18 years with zero issues with rodents.i purchased the new canyon in july of 2016, and within 6 months, entire wiring harnesses with 7 wires are chewed completely through.the dealer refuses to cover damage under warranty.

Front passenger side floor-carpet and floor boards wet, engine light on, intel link computer failed had to reboot took to dale earnhardt tallahassee fl they fixed the engine light it was the purge valve and it had shorted out, they stated that we would need to take to a body shop as the leak is coming in at the bottom of the a-pillar filling up and then streaming out of a "christmas tree hole at bottom of fuse box on right side. This happens anytime anywhere driving or stationary when it rains. We just purchased this truck on 04/02/2019. 45,710 miles they said they would not fix it we had to take it to a autobody shop.

Have had truck in shop several times, currently in the shop and has been there for almost 3 weeks nobody seems to know what the problem is. Vehicle losses power and goes into a limp mode. Temperature gauge keeps failing, exhaust break does not work, ac cuts out often and does not work often, keepstrying to clean exhaust filter over and over again and again.

Touch screen and in dash digital speedometer randomly changes on its on, the touch screen will not respond and change radio stations, volume, contact on star, try to use projection option, move the map on gps, and change the digital speedometer from speed limit to radio stations. On multiple occasions while driving at night the entire dash, radio, gauges lights everything went black randomly as if the truck was not turned on but the truck continued to drive normal and after what looks like a reset maybe 20-30 seconds everything reboots as if you just started the truck. Then it's back to random berserk outbursts by the touch screen. Transmission started getting jerky between gears at 15k miles and has only gotten worse at 35k miles. Entire vehicle shakes between gears front to rear and back. Through all gears. Also some strong hard hitting shifts. Dealership has had vehicle 2 times for both issues and see nothing wrong. They are clearly lying. Gm will also not help and have been contacted directly.

My infotainment console 'is freaking out'.model 84042934 will randomly change screens, move icons, connect and disconnect the apple car play, switch fm, am, bt input, change menu positions, and other random (and distracting) actions.nobody can use the radio, bluetooth or hands free phone interface.the usb interface is worse than the wireless connection.the problem happens regularly after the engine reaches operating temps. It happens more with iphone than android.this issue has become progressively worse over the past few months.it will happen in motion or at rest as long as the engine is running. We have had the unit tested (of course there is no trouble found even while it was acting up) in two different areas in the usa (fl and tx).we have changed the primary battery on the truck believing it was caused by irregular voltage from a 3.5 year old battery. Research implied gmc knows about the re-issuance of 2015.5 infotainment units installed in 2016 model year trucks but will only offer $500 incentive towards a replacement vehicle, they will not replace the radio head unit that is causing reckless distractions while driving. The problem has become so pronounced that the truck is not drive-able with the radio on and thus cannot use the hands-free feature (which is mandatory in several states in the usa.

Periodic loss of power steering. Not consistent. Happens while driving, sitting idle with engine on. Must pull over and cycle ignition. Steering loss is dangerous. Limited control of the vehicle. Brought to dealer several times before they told me to replace the gear assembly for $2,000. Vehicle has 62k mile and is out of warranty

Latelly i'm having problem it a gmc canyon 2016 thatcause the vehicle to loose power steering loss, and stability control assist which make the car to become very hard to maneuver, in the highway and local roadsthe first time this happen was beginning of august i brought to the dealer he reset the controls and problem disappeared just to return one month later.

The stability track light comes on and the check engine light comes on and the car reduces its speed to 25 mph on the highway very dangerous very scary the dealer cannot seem to fix the issues and find the problems

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering and stability control warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle began to jerk, the speed reduced, and the power steering failed. The contact had to turn off and restart the vehicle in order for the power steering and speed control to function correctly. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,300.

When i am drive, i will get a message on the dash that reads " service... Power steering, drive with care" and another saying, " service... Stabilitrack" once i receive the message i will lose power in my steering wheel and it'll get extremely hard. Completely not safe and vehicles of the same make and model, but different year are all having the same problem.

Vehicle frequently shuts off during braking or while stopped and must be restarted before the vehicle can operate again.vehicle experiences violent gear changes and significant lagging during periods of moderate acceleration at low speeds.gear changes result in either severe unresponsiveness and a general lack of acceleration or an aggressive gear change that jerks the vehicle and spins the tires.

I purchased a 2016 gmc canyon in july 2016. I noticed hesitation when i accelerate, especially when in traffic, going uphill or rounding corner. I researched many forums and found the transmission has a learning period where it does this and adapts to your driving, normally within the first 1000 miles. However, it has been 13,000 miles later and almost a year, and it continues to have this hesitation as bad if not worse than it did initially. Gmc has checked it out, gave it a test drive and said it shows no codes so they offer no help. All of my passengers notice this hesitation when it happens. The best way to describe this hesitation is when you push the gas, the truck acts like it doesn't want to go and it becomes shakey. In situations where i'm merging onto traffic, this could be dangerous, as i have had to floor it to make it accelerate. For a new vehicle, this is unacceptable and i felt safer in my 2001 sierra than i do in this. The fact that gmc will not offer any way to fix this adds to the frustration. No matter what they say, it is not normal for a vehicle to do this.

The throttle and transmission feel as though they were separately developed for two different vehicles and just randomly matched in the truck. The accelerator is very non-linear and unresponsive. Then the transmission is constantly in the wrong gear. This truck is a nightmare to drive in traffic or on windy hilly roads. You have to constantly guess where your foot should be to get any kind of stability or acceleration from the truck. If you are trying to pull out in traffic you better be prepared to have a lot of room because it might just shake and shutter before finding a gear and actually accelerating. This is dangerous and i find it odd that there havent been collisions attributable to this. If anyone from gm is reading this, know this will be the last gm product i ever buy. Either you dont know how to engineer a vehicle, or you simply just dont care about your customers. Im guessing the latter.

I purchased a gm 2016 canyon in october, 2016 and had driven it nearly six months when the event decribed here occurred.up until april 16, 2017, i had had no problems with the truck.however, on easter sunday afternoon, while attempting to slow my canyon down and preparing to stop at a stop light, the engine seemed to go forward of it's own volition and the truck did not respond to my efforts to bring it to a complete stop.consequently, my vehicle struck the vehicle immediately in front of it.a subsequentinternet search revealed that a technical safety bulletin issued by gm in september of 2016 described this event as having occurred to 2016 canyon diesel engines.my vehicle has a gasoline engine; nonetheless the condition was described in the bulletin (tsb 16-na-276) as:"some customers may comment on a shudder at low speeds, an idle surge when stopped or approaching a stop."this idle surge describes exactly what happened to my vehicle as i was attempting to slow down and stop at a red light.although there was no damage done to my vehicle, the officer who investigated the accident would not let us drive our vehicle until it had been examined and evaluated by our local gm service department.the service personnel adamantly maintained then (and now) that the accident did not happen as i described it.i had to contact gmc customer care center to have 15 minutes worth of diagnostics done per computer, esp the engine control module.the tsb states: "if you encounter a vehicle with the above concern, reprogram the engine control module with the latest calibrations." luckily, the gentleman at the customer care service was able to intervene and have the engine control module evaluated and documentation that there were no problems with it or any other "control modules"provided to us by our local gm service department.

The contact owned a 2016 gmc canyon. The contact stated that on 10/14/2019, while braking to make a right turn into the gmc dealership (brown & brown at1550 e drivers way, gilbert, az 85297, (480) 835-0900) for routine maintenance, the vehicle lost power and the power steering was disabled making steering verydifficult. This occurred again before arriving at the service entrance. The contact stated that multiple warning lights were illuminated both times. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact was informed that a software update needed to be performed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the initial failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,216. See invoice attachment. He second failure occurred on 9/16/2020 while the driver was slowing down to make a right turn. The vehicle lost power and there was a loss of steering assist making steering very difficult. The contact stated that multiple warning lights were illuminated both times. The contact was able to restart thevehicle, but the problem occurred again that day. On 9/17/2020, the vehicle was tolled to henry brown buick gmc located at 1550 e drivers way, gilbert, az 85297, (480) 835-0900. The second failure mileage was 55,468. The problem could not replicated or identified. See invoice attachment. The contact sold the vehicleon 9/29/2020.

The stability track light comes on and the check engine light comes on and the car reduces its speed to 25 mph on the highway very dangerous very scary the dealer cannot seem to fix the issues and find the problems

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving 55 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated without warning. In addition, the brakes engaged without warning and without the assistance of the driver. The vehicle decreased to speeds of 20-30 mph. The contact could not accelerate beyond 30 mph. In addition, oil leaked onto the exhaust manifold and created a burning odor. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving 65 mph, the rpm meter increased from 1,000 to 4,000 and the vehicle failed to decelerate or accelerate. The vehicle slowed down after being shifted into neutral and was able to function properly. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to diamond hills chevrolet buick gmc (4545 w ramsey st, banning, ca 92220, (866) 220-9099), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 22,000. Consumer stated i spoke with tiffany at gmc. She informed me that they would do nothing and any further tests would be at my expense. The first time it happened it was a very dangerous situation. I had just passed a car on a 2 lane hwy (ca 395) when the engine froze. The car i passed had to apply its brakes to keep from hitting me. Updated 10/19/18

When trying to accelerate vehicle studders and has no power until more gas is applied. Vehicle changes gears way to fast causing you to have to apply more acceleration. Vehicle doesn't downshift causing you to also have to apply more acceleration to gain speed. Serious safety hazard.

Gm case #[xxx]; gm recall bulletin: 15595anational highway traffic safety administration campaign id for recall: 16v054gm issued a recall bulletin related to a defect in certain 2015 gmc canyon trucks due to loss of power steering due to a poor electrical connection within the torque sensor harness connector.this presents a greater risk of a crash and a safety concern.my name is [xxx] and i own a 2016 gmc canyon vin #[xxx]. My stability track indicator came on and my power steering stopped working. I took my vehicle into a gm dealer and was charged $180 to diagnose the problem. I was told due to low voltage the recommendation was a new battery. The battery was replaced costing me an additional $140.the next day, the stability track indicator came on and my power steering stopped working again. I took it into the gm dealer again and was told this time there was an issue with my torque sensor which is the same issue in the recall bulletin #15595a for the 2015 trucks related to power steering.concerned and frustrated, i called gm and was issued with the aforementioned case #. I was told someone would call me, which no one did. The dealer then informed me that gm would cover 80% of the cost still leaving me with a bill of $734!i wrote this compliant to gmc for several reasons and including nhtsa due to the safety issue. This is obviously the same issue being experienced in the 2016 trucks not just the 2015 trucks.i am bringing attention to this issue as this issue may constitute a recall needed for the 2016 which hasn't been done.this is not only concerning as the issue presents risk of a crash, a safety concern and owners like me having to incur out of pocket expenses.i am requesting an investigation into my issue and for gmc consideration of reimbursement of $734 in addition to $320 out of pocket expenses.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

This complaint is concerning the headlights. I don't drive much at night but when i do it's frightening. The new projector headlights are, in my opinion, flat out dangerous. I live in a rural area with many rolling hills and few street lamps. With the low beams on, going down a slope, it actually seems like a shade is being pulled down on my windshield.the "light curtain cutoff" basically disappears into darkness on a downslope.on a flat stretch sight distance forward and to the sides is minimal. I have seen the insurance industry has rated most vehicles with these headlights as "poor". Its time for the nhtsa to take action.

An animal chewed through the fuel line causing a significant fuel leak. This was caused by the construction on the fuel line containing soy based products which attracts wildlife. This occurred while the vehicle was parked (stationary).

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the fuel tank was missing the metal skid plate and fuel leaked from the vehicle. When the contact approached the vehicle, he noticed the fire department was present to inspect the vehicle. The contact alsonoticed a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,446.

On july 2nd, i looked where my canyon was parked and found a significant amount of diesel fuel on the ground. Upon further inspection, i found fuel all over the underside of the vehicle and a sever leak from a hose. The hose was rubbing on a can coming from the ac compressor. The vehicle does not leak when parked (other than dripping) but looses significant fuel when idling or driving. This issue likely started a few days ago but was not discovered until 7/2. The fuel itself is close to several hot components including the transmission, exhaust and transfer case.

Transmission does not move into next gear when driving 20/25 30/35this vehicle is an accident waiting to happenyou can't pass anyone also it you can't merge on highway safelyyou must drive vehicle in a adjusted manner

The stability track light comes on and the check engine light comes on and the car reduces its speed to 25 mph on the highway very dangerous very scary the dealer cannot seem to fix the issues and find the problems

I bought a brand new 2016 canyon, test drive went well, although i admit it probably wasn't long enough. Purchased on sunday, and during the next week driving i began noticing the transmission was not shifting at the proper times. Like most people on here, the transmission appears to be very confused , especially when decelerating into the 20-35 mpg range and attempting to re-accelerate back up. It will misfire or be very unresponsive, and then clunk and jerk you forward once it decides to change gears. It also does something that i think is even more dangerous when you are going around 30-40 mpg and then simply let off the accelerator. In this instance, i feel like it down shifts instantly and it feels like the truck is being pulled back (instead of simply coasting like i would want), and then at some point it "releases" from this and the truck actually stops decelerating and speeds up a bit, even though the gas had been released many seconds ago. This is particularly dangerous in stop and go city traffic.i think the overarching problem here is the shift points that the ecm has determined (or been programmed with). You can tell this when accelerating from a stop, my truck gets to third gear by 15 miles per hour and never goes above 2k rpm's??? i admit i am a bit light-footed on driving, which compounds the problem because i eventually am giving a small amount of acceleration to a truck in 4th gear only going 20 mph, which suck.i have also read this was a common problem on 15 canyon (obviously read after purchase), and gmc eventually came out with a few fixes, including ecm patch updates or lower valve replacement. I imagine that many of the 2016's were already off the line by the time these '15 fixes came out (in april 15 i believe), but the dealerships have not received any of these for the 2016.

Truck seems to be missing when cruising, then hesitation when accelerating. Seems to be not getting enough fuel frequently when just accelerating. Dealer says they can't find anything wrong. Told them the problem is 90% reduced when using premium fuel. Still no idea.

1) <powertrain> i have 40k on my canyon and am experiencing acceleration issues 0-40mph 1-3rd shift points (automatic transmission). The transmission acts like it cannot decide to either say in 2nd or shift to 3rd and there's a lag or surging affect when this happens. I had the transmission fluid and transfer case fluids changed ar the gm dealership. Problem still persists. 2) <other> key gets stuck in the ignition. When placing the truck in park there's an internal relay/switch within the shifter that is supposed to activate a relay/unlock signal to the key tumbler in the steering column. This doesn't always happen and the key won't turn to the off position to allow it to be released. I have to turn the key to the acc position put the truck in drive then back into park to get the relay/switch to dis-engage the key position from being locked in acc.

Transmission hunts for gear when trying to accelerate 25-40 mph when transmission temp is 120 degrees and higher in slow and go driving. Leads to dangerous situation because accelerator pedal must be 'stomped' on to get transmission to downshift. Especially dangerous on wet roads when rear of truck can swerve when accelerating and in slow and go traffic having to push hard on accelerator to gowhen many cars around.gm knows of the problem and publishes paper stating exactly the symptoms and and tell dealers not to take further action other than making software up to date which solves nothing. Not all gm trucks and even cars of this year are affected but years before and after for decades have this same issue as found on internet forums. Changing to different transmission fluids and even changing torque convertors has been done in the past but for 2015/2016 no remedy is offered.this has been going on 1.5 years since new and getting worse. Because of lack of out of service days i don't think lemon law applies

Transmission seems to be confused.it will hesitate during acceleration and shift up and down while coasting.most sluggish shifting occurs during lower speeds.it also has a habit of downshift to low gear while coasting downhill. Always seems to be fighting with itself!

Vehicle does not respond to acceleration command while entering a highway or during highway driving, increasing the risk of collation with other vehicles due to transmission failure, suspect the torque converter not working properly.this is a major and well known issue, gm continues to ignore and i do not want to become the next statistic dead in us highways.the vehicle is moving, during a red triangle yield sign entering the highway, the vehicle will not respond to acceleration command causing a bottle neck of traffic behind me and high risk of being rear ended.this is a serious defect affecting the transmission, it needs to be investigated and resolved as soon as possible.

Unpredictable acceleration limits drivers ability to safely merge with traffic or change lanes.vehicle can take up to 3 seconds to begin acceleration after gas pedal is pressed and then can surge unpredictably.i have seen this issue reported in gmc forums by others. Gmc says there is nothing wrong.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. Ever since the vehicle was purchased, the vehicle has pulled to the right. Additionally, on several occasions, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact also stated that the transmission was slipping while the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was taken to al serra gmc (located at 6201 saginaw rd, grand blanc, mi 48439, (810) 202-0226) where it was diagnosed that the entire steering column was misaligned and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the brake rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 9,735.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 10 to 40 mph, the vehicle shook uncontrollably without warning. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle as having transmission failure. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer issued a letter related to the issue (pip 5342a, dated 12/21/2015). The approximate failure mileage was 250. ...updated03/06/17

Slow and go driving 20-40mph after coasting and trying to accelerate again the transmission bucks hesitates trying to find a lower gear. It can't decide which gear to go into and just sputters and chugs until i push the accelerator 1/2 way down or more the finds its gear and rockets off. This type of driving not safe at all. This happens all the time since practically new. Gm claims its normal. Bulletins to not fix anything except update the software. That doesn't accomplish anything.this is a known gm issue with colorados and canyons and gm changed transmissions following years and no support for 2015-16

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving various speeds, the power train automatically shifted to 4wd and the service 4wd warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (southern gmc greenbrier located at 1300 s military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320; (757) 424-6380) where it was diagnosed that the 4wd actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after a few days. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where they reprogrammed the computer. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after a few days. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after a few days. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the connector kit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred after a few days. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-462-8782 and asked the contact to call the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 6,883.

When attempting to turn left onto a highway from a stop sign, the transmission failed to engage, with a 2-second delay before engaging and accelerating into the turn.as a result of the delay, i was nearly hit by oncoming traffic.this vehicle model, 2016 gmc canyon, has a history of not being in the proper gear when stopped or moving at speeds below 3-5 mph.this issue has happened to me over 100 times in the first 6 months of ownership, but this was the first time i nearly had a dangerous collision.gmc should correct this problem with the transmission not being in the proper gear for being stopped or for extremely low speeds.

Vehicle bogs and misfires at rpms below 2000 causing a significant safety problem. Vehicle refuses to accelerate at low rpm unless it downshifts. Research on the internet finds multiple complaints for the same issue. I test drove a 2017 gmc canyon and it exhibited the same issues.

Vehicle has frequent slow acceleration when entering highways. I have to step on the accelerator hard to have the engine pick-up speed, which leads to the engine over accelerating. When i slow down on sharp road turns and accelerate to pickup speed the transmission shifting the gear hard (making a thump sound).have gone to dealer at merced gmc and turlock chevrolet. Both state car is running the way gmc manufactured it.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While the vehicle was stationary, with the brake pedal depressed, the rpms suddenly increased and the vehicle erroneously attempted to drive forward. Also, while decelerating from approximately 15 to 20 mph, the vehicle shook and shuttered when depressing the accelerator pedal and would not accelerate as normal. The cause of the failures was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 1,000.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. On several occasions, while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to gay buick gmc (3033 gulf fwy, dickinson, tx 77539, (832) 769-4378) to be diagnosed, but the dealer stated that the vehicle was operating as intended. The contact was also informed by the mechanic that the vehicle should be placed in trailer mode to rectify the failure if it happened again. The contact was concerned that the vehicle could cause a crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000. The vin was not available.

Transmission consistently shudders when accelerating in all driving conditions and speeds, and sometimes goes to higher rpms when engine is warm and restarted. Dealer said this was normal when recently brought in.it was not showing any codes. Dealer said not to keep 4x4 in auto mode.less than a week after receiving truck back from dealer,a 4 wheel drive warning message was displayed and the car would not go into 4 wheel drive or auto.message and problem comes and goes. Shuddering should not occur and keeping in auto more during rain and cold weather is a safety precaution that should not be an issue.

Ignition will not fully turn off and release key when truck is placed in park. I'm addition ignition and key become very hot to the touch after driving for over 20 minutes (temp outside is cool 50-60).truck will eventually turn off and release the key after restarting and shifting through all gears multiple times (turning off, back on, shifting, etc.). Already attempted cleaning keys (both sets) with no change in behavior.

My truck will i engage into four wheel drive all by itself .its been to the the dealership nine times and i'm feeling very uncomfortable driving this vehicle.if this vehicle goes into four wheel drive while i'm on a major highway it could be unsafe to my life and others that are driving with me.but the dealership is not taking this problem very seriously i think.this problem is this going on.reference number 11012598

The transmission does not downshift from a high gear (5 or 6) to a lower gear when slowing down from 45 mph to 20 mph (or lower). When the accelerator is depressed to accelerate the engine bucks, vibrates, and does not accelerate. The engine rpm drops to 1,000 rpm or lower. If the accelerator is quickly floored the transmission downshifts several gears lower and jerks forward. This condition happens primarily on secondary roads while driving along the road and when pulling from one road into traffic on another road. The situation when pulling into traffic is dangerous because the truck does not accelerate as it should.

While driving, the engine picks and chooses when to speed up. I press the gas peddle down and have to wait a few seconds before the vehicle responds. I have noticed the vehicle making sounds like it is sputtering almost to the point to seizing all together.

Sag and hesitation while shifting, seems to get stuck or not sure what gear to be in.while making a turn truck hesitates no acceleration at 20mph.serious safety concern about getting rear ended

Transmission hesitates dramatically between some shifts..long periods where transmission seems to be in neutral. Typically happens in lower gears, such as between 2 and 3 gears. Pressing accelerator them causes a clunk into gear. Also, on higher speeds, downshifts are slow to occur but then several gears seem to be skipped when the downshift finally occurs, with screaming engine rpms. This is a 4 cylinder model with 6 speed automatic trans.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. On several occasions, while driving, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle would then shift into gear extremely hard. The vehicle was taken to rimrock gmc cadillac (located at 840 shiloh road, billings, mt 59106 (406) 651-5000) to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 11,635.

The transmission does not shift properly, when you slow down from approx 40 to 20 then step on the gas the truck has a long hesitation. It is very unsafe and is going to cause an accident. The truck wants to stall out unless you floor it.

Noticed a few days after i bought the truck it seems the transmission never knows what gear to be in. You can take off fine but when you try to add a little speed, does nothing until a few more inches of pedal is applied then it accelerates way to fast, almost hit the car in front several times. Also, coming out of u-turn or freeway underpass, seems to be stuck in 6th gear, have to dang near floor it to get it to accelerate , all the while folks are trying not to hit me from behind since i am not moving very well. Freeway driving, same issues, say you are at 60mph and traffic clears and you try to add a little pedal to get to 65-70, i have to push down 2-3 inches before anything happens. Same when driving 30 then trying to go to 45, shudders and stumbles like a manual transmission vehicle would in 5th gear @ 30mph. You have to really stay on the gas and drive hard to for it to do any better. I took back to the dealer under warranty and was told this is normal according to gmc tech support. Not. I have been driving 45 years, many different cars, and this is in no way normal. It is not only aggravating but quite dangerous. From what i have seen online, this is a very common complaint. Should take no more than some re-programming of the shift points and throttle position sensor.

I will be driving down the interstate and all of a sudden, my power steering would go out.sometimes it would go out just driving down a residential road going 25 or 30 miles an hour.i would have to stop someplace, turn it off and wait a while and then turn it back on and it would work again.if i don't wait long enough, the power steering still wouldn't work after restarting. When this would happen, the "service power steering" light would come on.also, "stabilitrack" light would come on.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 20 mph, the steering lost power and the service power steering, anti-lock braking system, and stabilitrak indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to mills gm (218-297-0074, located at 14138 dellwood dr n, baxter, mn 56425) where it was kept for observation. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that a similar failure occurred in 2017 and the power steering sensor was replaced. The failure recurred in early 2018 and the power steering was repaired by the same dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

Power steering constantly goes out making extremely difficult to maneuver the vehicle. Same issue as 2015 recall

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. Upon starting the vehicle and reversing, the power steering failed and the service power steering warning indicator flashed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving between 35 and 55 mph, the steering wheel seized. While the vehicle was stationary at a stop sign, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,927.

Unable to get the keys out of the ignition when come to a complete stop and is in park..the key won't get released from the ignition..i have to restart the truck several times and repeat taken the keys out. It is as if the ignition won't recognize the key..

The power steering has gone out while driving the vehicle 4 times in the last 3 months. The last time, my wife almost had an accident. She was turning into s driveway and last power steering and almost hit another vehicle because she had trouble turning the truck. I found out gmc is recalling about 60,000 vehicles for this issue but my vehicle is not on the list so i want to report the problem to your agency so you have it on record in case i have an accident

Takara recall. My service power steering on my 2016 gmc canyon is coming on. I was informed that this could be dangerous and that the 2015 canyon had a recall. I'm hoping that you will fix this issue, before something bad happens.i took it to the shop and they put the computer on it and it says that a poor circuit is causing this. Can you help me out? thank you.

Driving 65 miles an hours and steering wheel locked, several times, i could of had an accident on the express way, it happened again while i try to take it to the dealer today 09/19/2020. I also have pics of the warning it provided me, 'stabilitrak' and 'power steering drive with care' truck was in motion when this occurred.

Vehicle power steering and stability controls has intermittent failures while operating the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle began to pull towards the left or right while attempting to drive straight. When the contact attempted to turn the vehicle at low speeds, the vehicle hesitated to turn and attempted to steer straight ahead. Robert woodall chevrolet buick gmc cadillac (located at 1063 riverside dr, danville, va 24540, 434-797-1411) was contacted, but could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was currently occurring while driving various speeds. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 141,000.

While driving i lost power steering causing the truck to pull into next lane. Luckly no other vehicle was near. Gmc dealership said the are not aware of any issues with steering gear box for the 2016 canyon. This very dangerous as i see other complaints. It needs to be looked into. And costly $1900 dollar repair.

The vehicle lost power steering while on the highway.vehicle was towed to repair shop.computer could not pick up the problem.power steering was working again.

Power steering and stability control had intermittent failures while operating vehicle.

Like thousands of other canyons/colorados, power steering fails at random times causing steering wheel to be ripped from hands. Extremely dangerous. Happens at all speeds, moving or stationary. I don't understand why it's only recalled on 2015 models when it's exactly same problem.

My 2016 gmc canyon has experienced eight power steering assist failures while driving since late 2019.the associated steering service warning light and audible alarm are activated along with traction control off and antiskid control indicators. The alarms clear upon restarting vehicle and steering assist returns.issue has occurred at both highway speed and low speed.the event frequency recently increased from random to five events over two consecutive daysvehicle mileage on 2/23/2020 is 38459 miles..

For no apparent reason while driving, my steering wheel will pull very hard to the right.i have to hold the steering wheel tight and turn it to my left to get back to center.during this time i can feel the pressure from the steering wheel trying to go right.this usually last for a few minutes then it corrects itself.it has occurred while i was driving on city streets at posted speeds.

When you are driving the power steering goes out.the steering wheel is very very hard to turn with the power steering out.you must stop and turn of the car so it resets (so far this has solved the problem).this has happened now 2 times over the last week.my car is 2016 and gm has recalled 2015 with the same problem.most likely the same parts so the recall should be extended to include 2016's.

Highway driving on 3/24 and two lights warning me that power steering and stability(traction) control were disengaged. Traveling approximately 70mph, steady speed on smooth road,

Ii was driving my gmc canyon and the power steering went out and the warning light came on and "loss of power steering, drive with care". I parked the care and waited 15 minutes, restarted the truck and the warning light went off and i was able to drive home without a problem. The next day i was driving at low speed and the same warning light came on with the additional warnings of "stabilitrak" and "steering assist reduced" and i lost power steering. I pulled over and restarted the truck and the light stayed on and i had no power steering.i continued driving home without power steering and stopped for a short while and when i restarted the truck i had power steering again. I did a web search and it said 2015 and 2016 canyons and colorado's were having this issue but only 3000 we recalled. I wanted to make you aware of my problem and see if the recall should be for more than the 3000 vehicles.

Twice in the last 4 days the power steering failed. Received a warning of a power steering problem on the dash and then lost all power assist. Had to pull over and then restart the car to restore the power steering

Power steering goes out while vehicle is moving at either normal speed or low speed. Error messages appear indicating loss of power steering and traction light comes on.shutting down engine and restarting can clear.if shutting down doesn't work disconnecting battery cable can clear the problem. This problem occurred numerous times over several days.it occurred both on city streets and rural highway. It occurred during turns and while driving straight.it occurred at normal highway speeds and at lower parking lot speeds. This occurred six times in one day.after clearing the last time we returned home and took the truck to a gm repair shop.this same problem has been recalled in the 2015 gmc canyon (recall n202313200).the loss of power steering allowed the 63 year old female driver to ease off the rural highway however when the power steering failed in a city parking lot the male driver had to use all his strength to steer the vehicle.in the event this had occurred with the female driver in a situation where a turn had to be navigated she would not have had the strength to negotiate the turn possibly causing serious injury or property damage.owner has opted to have repaired at his own cost due to safety concerns.total cost to replace the steering gear assembly including the power steering control module was $1565.21

On 12/29.2015 at approximately 8:00 am on a clear bright day i was driving near my my home returning from and errand. I was approximately 90% through a slight right turn when the electronic power steering went out causing the vehicle to leave the road, continue down a ditch hitting a concrete drive, concrete mail box and a power pole. The vehicle was totaled and i had soft tissue bruising, cuts and abrasions.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Case # 10940128while backing from a curb my power steering did not work and lost all steering control ,dash message said "service power steering system" and had a dismiss button that i pushed and then immediately my steering returned ,i called on star which did a diagnostic test and reported no problems, i drove it home, and took it to the dealers the next morning they plugged it in found a problem code , there was a service bulletin out on it,and the part oem 22966597 had to be back ordered, and which told me this is a common problem, and was told that they had two other trucks with the same problemearlier that year , i as even told to drive the vehicle until the part came in which i refused due to the safety issue of losing control of the truck i the power steering failed

Driving down the road and my steering wheel locked up with a notification popping up saying power steering drive with care. I couldn't turn the steering wheel at all. I had to put my truck in park in the middle of the road and turn it off and turn it back on in order for the message to clear and my steering to work again. Luckily i was close to the house and didn't have to drive much further. I'm worried it will happen again which is scary because i have a one year old and another newborn coming in the next few months.

I was driving the listed truck on a six lane highway (270) in missouri when my power steering completely failed. I was able to exit the highway by using every bit of strength i had and i'm a six foot tall 200lb man. It was saturday buti was able to get the truck to the dealer and provided them with a memo detailing the failure. They were closed for the weekend. The steering had been acting suspect before and in fact i had an appointment the following monday to have it checked. Had it been my wife or granddaughter driving when the failure occurred the results might have been tragic. Following my experience i did a social media search and found many incidents identical to mine with the same type of truck. My truck is a gmc and the chevy colorado is the same. This truck had 62,000 miles and i have owned it since it was new. The steering pump is electrical which replaced an old and proven hydraulic style that rarely failed. I have been driving 60 years and never had one fail . I question the ability of gm engineering to design a new type of pump that is reliable. Their inability to do so results in a $1900 repair not to mention a potential loss of life. In my case gm did pick up a portion of the repair but my share still equaled $750.

Intermittent problem removing ignition key from ignition. Has been to dealer once. They replaced the safety lock switch for the center console gear selector. The lock switch in the steering column will not set, resulting in inability to remove the key. Key remains in accesory position and will eventually drain battery>

Faulty electric power steering caused vehicle veer off the rode hitting a concrete wall, concrete mail box and telephone. Vehicle was totaled. The vehicle was north bound a two black top road at a slight right hand turn.

Multiple times over the past 10 days the dashboard on my 2016 gmc canyon (purchased in mid 2015) displays a warning of power steering proceed with caution or service stabilitrak. The steering wheel tightens and i've had to pull over and turn off the truck. Issue seems to be fixed once the truck starts back up. Twice it's happened on the freeway, several other times in the street at various speeds, whole turning and while driving straight.

The power steering intermittently fails, and the vehicle is almost impossible to steer during the failure.i took the vehicle to gm dealer, ultimate auto gmc/buick in mountain home, arkansas.they told me the fix would be to replace a power steering module and the cost would be $1,600.i was aware the previous year's model had the same problem and was recalled.i called gm and they would not help with a recall.to me it is obvious that my truck has the same problem as the 2015 model, but they won't admit it.my safety was at risk because i could hardly turn the truck. I do get a warning message on the dash display.

Power steering goes out while driving and steering wheel will get hard

On three occasions the power steering malfunction warning came on. Brought it to prime gmc. Both times software updates were performed. On third time they said needs new steering column. The steering is very difficult at low speeds. I can clear situation by turning off and back on.

Power steering shuts off while driving. I have to stop the vehicle and turn off and then re-start to get the power steering back working. This can happen at any time regardless of when or how long i've been driving. The power steering seems to shut off for no reason.

The power steering has gone out completely on several occasions. Vehicle is very difficult to control especially when on interstate at higher rate of speed. This is dangerous.it is a shame that gmc only included 2015 canyons in recall and not 2016 but also that nhtsa has not intervened on this very dangerous malfunction.

The rear suspension leaf packs emit a loud squeaking noise when moving over uneven terrain. This happens at all speeds. The suspension sounds like it is in a bind and then slips. The sound can be described as a squeaking rattle or a loud chirp. The dealer service bulletins say to grease the components and not to replace them. The issue is unresolved and could lead to a safety issue if any parts fail.

Truck has 51496 miles. Engine light was on. Computer code stated exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector control circuit. Had to replace the injector. Code dtcp20cb. Should this be covered under the emissions warranty.

Unable to get the keys out of the ignition when come to a complete stop and is in park..the key won't get released from the ignition..i have to restart the truck several times and repeat taken the keys out. It is as if the ignition won't recognize the key..

Transmission does not move into next gear when driving 20/25 30/35this vehicle is an accident waiting to happenyou can't pass anyone also it you can't merge on highway safelyyou must drive vehicle in a adjusted manner

Truck has starting issues when shopping or getting gas. Entire truck system goes dead. Truck has to sit for 10 minutes or so. Then out of the blue all the systems in truck will start working. This affects the all door locks, power seats, power windows, radio, instrument panel, ignition switch all interior lights and all exterior lights headlights, all turn signals, all windshield wipers, in short all electrical components including automatic transmission gear shift. This happens warning reason for this occurrence.

When turning off vehicle the key will not to ā€œoffā€¯ mode. It stays in accessories mode and prevents the key from being able to be removed.

After starting my truck and driving until the engine warms up, i turn on just the fan and the a/c light comes on.according to the manual that is only supposed to happen if the auto defog is activated.it does not turn on when i start the truck if the engine is warm.also, the radio/usb port will randomly turn on by itself when i start the truck or sometimes after i end a phone call.once the entire touch screen system was completely inoperable.i then could not turn the radio volume up or down, change stations, or use any features of the touch screen.

I put the car into park and turn the key to turn the ignition off. Engine turns off but key does not turn in to off position. I have to start and turn the truck off multiple times to release the key.

Vehicle ignition key can not be removed and it does not stay in park. Vehicle can crash causing injuries and property damagevehicle has about 35000k miles under warrenty and gmc refuses to do any thing about it.

All my dash lights keep coming on and alarms going off. The poer steering, abs, check engine, stability track, parking brake, brake, etc. If i pulled over and turned the vehicle off to get this to stop nothing works when i crank it up. I have no power steering. If i crank it a couple times everything goes to working. Then a few miles it all starts again. This has been going on since april. I have put it in shop in april, the dealer couldn't get it to duplicate, in may, same thing, in june they finally got it to duplicate and changed a module. I drove it 772 miles it started again. I carried it back in july they said gmc said it was a steering gear. I got it back at 336 miles it started again aug. 2nd, it did it again at 798, then 813 miles on 8/9. I carried it back they supposedly found a rubbed spot in a wiring harness and fixed that stating they believe it is fixed. I contacted gmc in july trying to get them to take this truck back, they said they couldn't do that but extended the mfg warranty out to 100000 miles. I bought the truck used with 16000 miles on it still under mfg warranty, all the problems started at a little over 34500 miles.i fear for my safety as well as other due to steering wheel locking up. I mentioned this to gmc as well. Is there anything i can do to get gmc to take this vehicle back? i can get paperwork from dealer if needed. Is there anything you can do with this?i had a case # with gmc when the gave extended mfg warranty[xxx]. I talked with a representative name martin phone # 866-790-5700. Ext. 5915657. I left him a message on 8/12, he is yet to return my call.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

About every 3-5 weeks the engine will accelerate by itself. The first 3 times it accelerated to 3,000 rpm, the last 4 times 4,000 rpm. So far as i can tell it does this when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I took it to the dealer and they said they could not duplicate the problem so they could not fix it. Happens in motion on city street or in parking lots. I have standard transmission so when it happens i can leave clutch in, turn off engine and restart. Problems started at about 3,400 miles. Still doing it.

The contact owns a 2016 gmc canyon. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was engaged and there was a delayed response of several seconds. The contact stated that the failure occurred without any warning. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,000.

While driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. Also, the vehicle decelerated on its own. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (twin city buick gmc, 3046 alcoa hwy, alcoa, tn 37701) where nothing was done and the contact was informed that the issue was normal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-462-8782 and stated that they would pass the issue on to the senior manager. Case number: h3455690739 was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

Driving in left lane on us 1 south bound in south brunswick, nj at the speed limit. Heard sound like a backfire or shotgun go off. Dash board showed loss of tire pressure right rear tire. Pulled over into empty parking lot. Sidewall had exploded. Tires had recently been rotated by dealer. All tire pressures were set to 35 psi. Tires have approx 6,600 mile use. Veh. Not driven much as i am retired. These are oem goodyear 265/60r18 tires.
