At about 20,000 miles the air bag light intermittently started coming on while driving but would be reset when the truck was restarted.at about 26,000 the airbag light came on this time permanently.i took the truck to the dealer and was told the air bag sensor needs to be replace.the part was ordered andnow it has been a week later and the part still has not has been received.
Air bag light came on to service airbag while driving. No impact at time.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into a second vehicle. The front end of the contact's vehicle was damaged, but the air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to allen tillery auto (4573 central ave, hot springs, ar), but the cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 57,000. The vin was invalid.
2015 gmc canyon. Consumer writes in regards to frontal airbag safety recall. *ldthe consumer was concerned that the vehicle was not included in the recalls for vehicles with the same make, model and year, due to the vin number.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering became inoperable. The service 4wd and service traction warning lights were illuminated. Truck locked into limp mode suddenly one day and the check engine light came on. The truck was then stuck in one gear. Took it to a mechanic immediately who replaced the fuse box after finding it burnt out. Fast forward a month later, same issue occurs on the road. Both issues occurred while accelerating during a turn. Took to mechanic again to find tcm fuse burnt out and codes p0700 and p2534 present. Mechanic replaced fuse and stretched out wire bundle to see if wiring was an issue. Mechanic also took the truck on a road test to try to duplicate the issue to no avail. As of now the truck is working after the fuse was replaced, however it may happen again in the future.
Power steering assist shuts off while driving on normal.
Truck began losing steering control a month ago, then became more frequent the last 2 weeks. Dealer replace entire rack and pinion assembly because electric steering harness and modules were fried. This was due to little or no di-eletric grease in the connector plugs, which also, are not weatherproofed from the elements. $2000 out of my pocket to fix because recall only covers earlier models. This is a very serious safety issue. 3 times the steering gave out while driving and is very difficult to control even if you catch it in time. These vehicles are dangerous to everyone. I wanted to fix it before i get rid of it so someone else would not be stuck with this problem. Truck has 50,000 miles on it. Bad design on the electric power steering, connectors are in the elements and unprotected.
The touch screen display has become erratic or unresponsive. Sometimes buttons will begin clicking on their own while driving. Suddenly the display changes or radio stations will change. Other times, when attempting to press a button on the touch screen, the screen is unresponsive. All of this forces the driver's eyes off of the road and creates a safety hazard. I called the dealership and this is a common problem. According to multiple gmc canyon and chevy colorado forums, this is a prominent issue in the 2015-2018 model years and the only fix is to replace the touchscreen, which is ~$1000 at dealer
Almost immediately after initial start of vehicle, shifted from park to reverse and while backing out of garage, a message appeared in the driver information center (dic) that read:"service, brake assist, dismiss" - a few minutes later received two emails from onstar which read:an issue with the antilock braking system in your 2015 gmc canyon crew cab has been detected.an issue with the stabilitrak stability control system in your 2015 gmc canyon crew cab has been detected.subsequently, visited selling dealership and they checked fuse in relation to tsb # pb-14669, nhtsa id # 10056603.dealership found 30 amp fuse to already be in place.cleared trouble code, but it has since displayed several times in the dic.continue to receive several emails from onstar with subject line of "onstar vehicle health alert notification for your 2015 gmc canyon crew cab" - onstar has advised that these are "false email alerts" and that general motors is working on a fix for this problem, but no update or fix is available at this time.no estimated date of resolution, and unknown exactly how serious this apparent safety issue might be.
I purchased this truck 3 months ago and it had around 9000 miles on it at the time of the incident. I was driving at around 25 mph when i noticed smoke coming from under my hood. I pulled over, shut the engine off, and popped the hood. I opened the hood and noticed the engine was on fire. Opening the hood just enraged it more. I slammed the hood shut, and got to a safe distance and called 911. Within minutes the truck was engulfed in flames. After the fire was put out, the firemen said it appeared to have started in the vicinity of the alternator. The bracket was melted off and all that was left of the alternator was a basket of copper. Everything minus the bed was on fire.
Fall of 2015 the heater and defrost system went out.only cold air coming through. Entire dash board had to be removed.vehicle in shop for over 1 week 349 days later in fall 2016 same problem.gm dealer states that the internal lever that closes the heater door broke.this occurs when vehicle is moving or stopped. Repair bill over $1,000.vehicle still on warranty for 1,500 miles. Concern about long range reliability.one time problem but 2 times in less than a year.windows fog up and can not see to drive.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving various speeds, the instrument panel lights turned off intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,500. The vin was not available.
2015 gmc canyon radio display screen changes channels and display without operator input. Dashboard display will change from" info" to "audio" radio station .despite numerous duplicate complaints o the internet (google search ). No duplicate complaints were found in nhtsa ? resolve seems to be a display screen replacement$$$. Vehicle in motion or stationary. No difference.
Lost power steering, power steering service message, abs light, traction control light, and "!" light all came on.matches up to recall information available. Took it to chevy, it's not covered, costing $400. This should have been covered in the power steering recall
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that she could not remove the key from the ignition. The vehicle was taken to jim causley buick gmc (38111 s gratiot ave, clinton twp, mi 48036, (866) 774-0267). The dealer stated that since the warranty was expired, the contact would have to pay for the repair. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The failure was repaired by an independent mechanic. The cause of the failure was not disclosed. The manufacturer denied the contact's request for reimbursement since there was no recall on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 26,000.updated 11/29/18
While driving across parking lot at 8 mph, vehicle lost power steering control without warning.engine and other electronics continued to operate, however vehicle power steering and traction control warning lights were illuminated.i stopped vehicle, turned off ignition, and restarted, power steering and traction control lights went off and vehicle returned to normal operation.this also occurred about 2 weeks ago, in heavy traffic when i was going about 10mph, all power steering assist suddenly disappeared, again upon shut down and restart, all returned to normal.i initially thought the engine died.vehicle has 94k miles.
My 2015 gmc canyon sle pickup has a backup camera dimming problem.when backing out of my garage on a sunny day, the large display of what the camera sees behind the vehicle is bright and it is easy to see any objects located in the backup path until the vehicle reaches the location where the sun light falls on the dash.at that point the display dims to the extent where it is difficult to see any objects in the display.the dim display lasts for about 15 seconds when it instantly returns to full brightness as was visible in the garage.if one puts on sunglasses in the garage, in anticipation of sunlight outside, then the display dimming appears so severe as to not be able to see any objects in the display, until the display brightens after about 15 seconds.the word "objects" here means anything reasonably discernible on a typical driveway or roadway surface including children.the problem may be related to the light sensor on the dash used to automatically turn on lights in darkness, because when backing out of my garage at dusk the vehicle headlights are on and the backup camera display does not dim.two videos showing the above problems at daylight and dusk are about 30 to 35 mb each and too large to upload here.the problem continues today.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving 40 mph, the power steering failed, the warning light illuminated, and a "vehicle servicing and drive carefully" chime was heard. The vehicle was very difficult to steer and turn. Without power steering assist the contact parked the vehicle and, after a few hours, restarted and drove the vehicle without issues. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000. ...updated 02/08/16 the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. The power steering assembly was replaced and the power steering control module was reprogrammed.
While driving all the dash board information ,lights, information went dark, four times since i purchased this truck new ,feb. 2015. I have taken it to the dealership many times, one time when the problem was present, sept .30 2016 the employees at the service deskcame out of the office and looked at the dash board and saw that it was dark,no display at all,3rdtime, they would not take the truck into the shop as i did not have an appointment at that time, they set up an appointment four three days later, when i took the truck in for repair ,the desk clerk went out side and talked to an employee ,came back in and told me they would not look at the truck now that the problem was not present.i was strumpet.i complained to the service managerlater that week and he set up a time to check the problem , would give me a loner car for maybe eight to ten days.confirmed by the owners son , who works at the dealership. I took the truck into the dealership on oct.12 2016, the service manager asked for the keys and said get in. We went 3 miles out and back to the shop. He said there is nothing wrong we can not hook it to the machine.on oct.4 2016 while in another city the time on the dash had gone wrong, so i drove it to the dealership, same owner and showed him,no response to fix the problem.started for home half way home the dash went dark, i have a video of the dash off while driving home and the video shows the dash coming back on sent email with video to owner of dealership and to glenn g m c rep, next day the owner said bring the truck in and i will drive it for a few days to check it.it has been 5 days with no call from the owner of the dealership.i want to turn this truck in as a lemon and get a new one that does not have a problem. I need a working truck to travel 140 miles one for dr> appointment 10 28 2016.
In the last week my power steering went out 5 times on my 2015 gmc canyon. I took it to the dealer who diagnosed it with rack and pinion failure. I research this and there are numerous complaints of this and gmc refuses to recall. And fix it. It is very dangerous as you have no control of the vehicle at all. P pleas help as it is a very expensive repair and a hazard.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the failure occurred because the battery was not fully charged. Later, while driving the vehicle, the contact indicated that the battery saver light illuminated. After parking the vehicle, flames were noticed under the hood approximately 45 minutes later. The fire department extinguished the flames. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 590.
The power steering became disabled while driving straight at highway speed in my 2015 gmc canyon at 52k miles. I was forced to make an unsafe stop on the shoulder and it took several restarts to get the steering to enable again. Since this happened the first time it has started occurring intermittently while driving. This has made my vehicle unsafe to operate for me and other drivers on the road. Gm claims that my vehicle is ineligible for the previous recall.
Would randomly experience loss of electrical power steering assist.loss of assist would happen at all times, while stationary, while driving straight, while turning, at hi low or no speeds.needed to park vehicle and turn off and restart vehicle to restore power steering assist.operator would be prompted with a "loss of power steering, drive with care" warning.scanning with obdii tool showed the loss of steering assist was always tied to u0420 dtc.errors were occurring in august so temps were between 70 and 100 degrees f.error is behaving exactly like a loose electrical connection, probably to the power steering torque sensor.vehicle was taken to dealership and appeared to be exhibiting the exact same symptoms as nhtsa recall 16v054000.tried to get gm to honor this repair however they claimed my vehicle is not in the affected 2015 model year date range. Dealer performed the same repair defined by the recall and have not had any power steering loss for last 3 weeks since receiving vehicle back from dealer.if the error was not fixed i would have expected it to continue happening at the same frequency as before (2-5 times per day)
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, the service 4wd warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer nor independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure however, no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 44,430.
Power steering goes out while driving occasionally and randomly. Impossible for me to make tight turns in this situation. Happened several times randomly at different speeds, different weather patterns.
Sudden total loss loss of electric power steering assist while driving on the interstate.sudden total loss loss of stability control system while driving on the interstate.
Power steering and stability control drop out while driving at any speed. Turning the vehicle off and cranking again will restore power steering. Sometimes this must be done 2 or 3 times to get power steering back. This is happening daily.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 5 mph, the power steering and stabilitrak warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to sutliff buick gmc (169 w aaron dr, state college, pa 16803), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was restarted and the warning indicators dimmed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage was 44,680.
The power steering on my 2015 gmc canyon has failed repeatedly while driving in different road conditions.in one case, i was going straight on a surface street at low speed.however, in another i was cornering through a highway off-ramp at approximately 45 mph.when the power steering fails, there is a warning chime and the power steering and stability control warning lights activate simultaneously.it becomes extremely challenging to steer, and in the case of cornering at speed the vehicle pulls in the opposite direction of the turn [ie, it pulls towards danger].pulling over and restarting the vehicle has 'solved' the problem each time, albeit temporarily.i took the vehicle to a gm dealer to get fixed, but they could not find any related mechanical issues or gm provided sw patches that would fix the problem.so the gm dealer had me leave without fixing any of the underlying conditions that caused the power steering failure.needless to say, this is an extremely dangerous and apparently wide-spread issue based on the number of similar complaints i have read.
Hi.this is my second formal complaint regarding intermittent loss of power steering, traction control, and stability control on my 2015 gmc canyon.there have been recurring temporary losses of the aforementioned vehicle capabilities while the vehicle is in motion, leading to severely degraded vehicle performance, handling, and traction.in every case, warnings lights have displayed immediately before the loss of control.these lights have also 'turned-off' or reset when the vehicle was restarted.i have repeatedly brought my truck into authorized gmc service appointments soon after the warning lights andperformance failures, or in one instance as the warning light was actively illuminated.each time, the service department was not able to recreate the issue or pull any relevant service codes related to the problem.needless to say, i do not believe the root cause issue has been adjudicated and i think this represents a clear and present danger to drivers of the 2015 gmc canyon such as myself.while my truck was not part of the past recall, this seems strongly related to the prior steering gear connector recall.
Several times over past month and time since i have owned the vehicle .the power steering module will go out during driving.when this happens power steering is lost and i receive warning chime andam not able to steer properly.i am very concerned this could cause a crash.gm is offering no helpbecause my vehicle vin does not show up under the recall.
After approx 15 minutes of driving, loss of power steering occurs and vehicle returns a power steering and stabilitrak error message.this has occurred multiple times, both while driving at different speeds and also while stopped.vehicle has only 26,000 miles.
After turning the vehicle on i got the following messages showing in the display panel 'engine power is reduced' and 'stabilitrack' also the following lights turn on 'check engine' and 'tc' off. Then i can heard a weird noise coming from the engine. When i moved the car from one place to another, the car lost power.
There was a recall previously 15595 according to gm. While driving power steering and stabilitrak goes out making it very hard to steer and dangerous, especially if you are going around a turn. Fortunately i was able to pull over each time and reset the car. Once you start it, no problem. It goes back to normal. However this has happened half a dozen times during the dead of winter and happened once a few days ago when we had record heat. As i mentioned no problem driving typically, which makes me believe the issue is not with the power steering but with a faulty connection. I took the vehicle into the shop on march 16, 2019. They said the recall item was already fixed previously. The diagnosed that the steering gear and rack needs to be replaced. I have read online similar situations with other owners. I believe this is very dangerous and gmc needs to repair this. This was something i found online describing the issue in more detail:"in the affected vehicles, the torque-sensor harness connector was damaged duringfunctional testing at the supplier. A 'stuck' pin on the steering gear supplier's testdevice caused permanent deformation to the contact springs in the torque-sensorharness connector, which affected the electrical connection in the steering gearconnector."*dtthe consumer stated wants to be reimburse for repairs.
Two times in two days. Loss of complete steering. My son driving straight 45mph on paved road. Message on dash board read 'loss of power steering control' and the traction control and stabilitrak lights also came on. Could not even turn the steering wheel. Came to a stop asap. Shut off truck and restarted and was normal again. Very scary!!second time he was driving down the interstate at about 73mph and same thing happened with other vehicles near. Couldn't steer. Was able to keep to the right and get onto the shoulder and stop. Very very very scary!!!!!!shut truck off and turned again and everything worked again. Truck is parked and won't drive now. Dealer said this truck is not part of the recall even though it has the same exact problems. Very much a safety issue and could have died. Gm must fix this horrific safety problem!!!!!!
While driving at any speedthe service power steering drive with care warning comes on and i immediately lose control of steering assist pulling the steering from my hands. Seconds later a service stabilitrak warning comes on. I can pull over and turn the truck off and the power steering returns when started. It can continue working for a few minutes or a few days there's no pattern to its malfunction. The recall date is january 6 2015 to march 19 2015 and my truck was manufactured in april 2015 so my truck doesn't come up in the recall. But i feel they not only made a mistake in the manufacturing causing the recall but they made a mistake in the recall window and it should be extended beyond march 19th. I have taken my truck to a dealer and they have diagnosed the problem as intermittent steering gear failure and are charging me $2339.00 to fix what i believe should be part of gms recall. I have attached photos of the dash warnings and the speed that it happened. This malfunction is extremely dangerous when it happens in a turn.
Vehicle was stopped at a stoplight when the instrument cluster started alerting that stabilitrack stability control needed to be serviced and power steering was disabled, as well as the traction control off light was illuminated in the instrument cluster. Turned vehicle off and restarted - power steering message reappeared but quickly went away and power steering function returned. The next day while driving < 30 mph on city streets the error messages and problems reappeared 4 or 5 times.
Truck has shut off twice while driving once while slowing to make a turn and once while slowing to go over a speed bump i get a dash notice that the power steering is off put truck in neutral and restart . Also once while running in my driveway for about 3 minutes power steering shut off and stability system warning came on truck was still running had to shut truck off and restart. This loss of steering and vehicle shutting off while driving is dangerous
My power steering/stabilitrak will randomly "fail"i will be driving along at normal speeds and an alert message will pop-up on my dash that says "power steering failure" and "stabilitrak error" and my vehicle instantly looses all power steering. My truck is currently at the gmc dealership and i have started a claim with general motors. The entire repair is going to cost $2,330 and gm is saying they will only cover $350 of the repair, and i will be responsible for covering the remaining $1,980. I have seen online where a lot of these trucks are having this problem, i think gm needs to do something about this.
While driving vehicle on jan 31, 2020 the power steering and stability control shut off while traveling at 70mph.this was extremely dangerous.this is the second time in less than two weeks.i understand gnc did a recall for this problem but did not cover my vehicle
Loss of power steering. Stabilitrak lights comes on along with traction control. Has happened at multiple speeds.
While driving on the highway at 65 mph the power steering and stability control went out.this resulted in significantly reduced steering and reduction in control of the vehicle.i was passing a tractor trailer at the time in a slight turn in the road.i came within inches of hitting the tractor trailer and significantly injuring myself, my child and damaging the vehicle.i was able to eventually pull off the road and restart the vehicle.the problem corrected itself after restart.i understand this is a known issue with the 2015 gmc canyon and gmc only decided to recall some of the vehicles.why would the nhtsa allow this serious safety issue to go uncorrected?
While driving the power steering fails. The election control check light comes on during this time. This starts when driving and only resets itself once the vehicle is turned off and back on several times.
The power steering goes out while driving power steering and stabiltrac lights come on this has happened twice on the highway. If you stop and restart engine steering works. This is dangerous loss of power assist steering
Power steering and stabilitrak intermittently go out.has happened while driving straight and also while turning.luckily there was no traffic nearby while turning.it does so without warning and will reset after turning vehicle off (sometimes takes more than one try).i understand there is a recall for the same problem, but only on vehicles built between certain dates.unfortunately my vehicle falls outside the recall parameters.this is a serious safety issue that gmc needs to address
I was driving on the downward slope of the steep mississippi bridge in baton rouge, la and loss my power steering control. Luckily, i was able to pull to the side of the interstate. I complained about this a month ago when i took the truck to gerry lane gmc. I was told it was a bad battery. So i purchased a battery from the dealership. Not even a week later the same problem occurred. However, when i cut the ignition off and crank back up it resets. The service advisor stated to bring it back in if it happens again. This time (about two weeks later) while i lost power i was able to video so i can show this advisor what keeps happening. This time it took me at least 4 times cranking up and then shutting off the engine to get it to reset so i could get back home and switch cars. I was too afraid to continue driving going over the next bridge that's 20 plus miles without an exit and lose power steering again. I've had to rent cars for this repetitive occurrence with this truck that seems to not be able to be repaired. Or either they know what's wrong but waiting for it to be out of warranty for me to take on the cost of repairing it. But this is not safe to keep loosing power steering and i'm driving anywhere between 50 to 70 mph. I also explained that when i park i can't turn the key to take out of the ignition. So again i have to crank up and pull forward to try and reset so i can be able to remove the key from the ignition. I took a video of that as well that i can't post.
This is the second time in 5 months that my steering went out on my 2015 gmc canyon. The first time the dealership said it was an electronic harness issue even though there has been multiple reports of steering issues. This is very scary when this happens and needs to be recalled as soon as possible. I was driving and then all of a sudden steering shuts off and the stability light comes on.
I was driving about 35 miles an hour when stabilitrac and loss of steering assist warning lights came on.steering became extremely difficult and i veered into the oncoming lane while making a right hand turn to exit the main road.i was going to have the vehicle towed to the dealership, but the dealership service agent recommended turning the vehicle off and restart after 30 seconds.this worked, but i took it in to the dealer to have it checked. They found no fault codes.five days later it happened again while on the interstate doing 70 mph. Fortunately, i only needed to make three turns to get to the dealership. The dealership replaced the power steering rack assembly at a cost of $1662.01.i contacted gm to ask if the expense would be covered by recall 16v054000. I was assigned a case serial and after several inquiries, a senior gm representative stated it was not covered by the recall and it was a different module causing the recall.she offered a $100 voucher for future vehicle service and closed my case as dissatisfied.regardless of the module, loss of steering is a life threatening hazard and the recall should be expanded. The vehicle had approximately 81,900 and 82,100 miles when this occurred.
Twice while driving the power steering has gone out and the stability control light has come on. The first time i cut the truck off and restarted it. At that point it appeared to be fine. Now it been about 2 weeks since the first occurrence and this morning ithappened again.i researched to see if there were any recalls. There is a recall on the power steering for the 2015 canyon but i'm being told that my truck is not on the list. I think they need to look deeper into this problem.
My power steering stopped working while driving around a curve at approximately 35 mph.fortunately, i was able to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and stop by applying significant physical force to the steering wheel.the instrument panel displayed two warnings.the first indicated the power steering system required service and the second indicated the traction control system required service.i then turned the ignition off and then restarted the vehicle.the power steering and traction control warnings were no longer present and the power steering was again functional.i then contacted the dealer and arranged for them to diagnose the problems the following morning.their service record indicated a code c0545 (steering torque sensor corrupt) had been logged.they cleared the error code and indicated they could not find anything else wrong.the service record also stated that "if the issue reoccurs, advised on steering gear $1800.00".i picked up the vehicle that afternoon and once again experienced the same issue at approximately 65 mph while on the way home. As before, i pulled off to the side of road, turned off the ignition, restarted the vehicle and drove the rest of the way home without further incident.
Driving down the road at 50 mph and, without warning, the power steering failed. After the failure, warnings appeared telling me to have power steering and stabilitrak serviced.there was no warning, no prior issues. This could have been extremely dangerous had is happened in the sharp curve or turn as the only easy way to steer this truck without power steering is going straight. I was able to safely get the truck home, but it was difficult to maneuver. Took truck to the gm dealer and they report that the "steering gearbox lost communication with the power steering module. A failed steering assembly." after researching and finding that this is a known and common issue with the 2015 canyon and colorado, i was told my vehicle is not part of a steering recall and that it will be $2,300 to fix it. The vehicle only has 33,000 miles on it and is well kept. To me, this is a manufacturer quality issue and should be addressed as a gm safety failure and recall. Gms failure to expand the recall around the steering issues in these vehicles is going to result in a major tragedy.and many people seem to be paying a lot of money to fix a known issue and failure on the part of the manufacturer.
I was taking a corner to go up to my road and then my power steering chime went off posting power steering has failed, then a message saying the stability control isn't functional. I drove into a small ditch because i couldn't turn my wheel. I was at a slow speed. I turned off the truck, and the warning went away. This has happened at least 8 times and have taken it to two dealers and the final dealer said i couldn't drive the truck until i replace the rack & pinion assy. He has said this should be part of the recall. My truck was built dec 05, 2014 and inspected on jan 01, 2015.this just costed me $1700.00. Randomly when driving (in motion on a city street), the power steering has stopped working. At the same time, the display shows a power steering service required message as well as a stabilitrak service required message. Most of the time, the truck resets when it is shut off and turned back on and the messages go away and the systems function properly again. Until they randomly fail again. Over the last 2 weeks, this scenario has happened at least 6 to 8 times.
On separate occasions while vehicle was in on position (in drive, in motion, and/or in park), alerts came on dashboard alerting to 2 service issues. 1. Service stabilitrak and 2. Service power steering. At that time power steering in the vehicle was lost. Vehicle was driven into safe area, turned off, and then turned back on. Upon restart, vehicle dash alerts and power steering issue were no longer apparent.
On two occasions recently, my power steering stopped working, once on start up and once while driving.when this happens, i get warnings that other systems aren't working, such as stabilitrak and backup assist.problem seems to correct itself, after turning the truck off.this happened sunday, june 16th while driving and back in march when i first started the truck.
Less than 48 hours after a dealer oil change, my 2015 gmc canyon experienced a power steering failure while making a right turn at a light. Stabilitrac/traction control failure also occurred with service notices and fault lights appearing on the dash. Vehicle had to be towed via flatbed to the dealership.
While driving some times on the highway and sometimes when driving slow in the city i lost power steering assist and had to shift to neutral and turn engine off and restart engine again to have power steering working again.have been happening intermittently.
"takata recall" while driving at various speeds, stabilization warning code comes on and i lose power steering. Another message says power steering service required. When i stop and restart truck everything is reset and works fine. This has happened 4 times in the past 5 days. Last time this occurred it did not reset when i stopped and restarted the truck. Drove home with no power steering.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated and the vehicle loss power steering before the vehicle stalled. Additionally, the vehicle failed to start with the check engine warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,294.
I wanted to reach out to you on gmc's claim that their engine achieves 305 horsepower. While it may be true that their engine achieves this figure it does so at a stated 6800 rpm. The 6800 figure is important to note because the trucks? red line indicating potential dangerous operating conditions start at 6500 rpm. So in essence in order for an owner to achieve 305 hp they would have to be operating their truck in a potentially dangerous manner. Even in the 2015 colorado owner?s manual it indicates the danger of operating above the redline? ?do not operate the engine with the rpm?s in the warning area.? gm is stating that someone can achieve maximum hp only by operating the vehicle in a dangerous manner....really?! i believe it will only be fair for gmc to re-evaluate their maximum horsepower prior to their engine hitting the redline.
The truck chugs and hesitates randomly when a down shift is required.generally this random hesitation is just annoying.at times the vehicle will not downshift for a considerable time.when making maneuvers in and around traffic the trucks poor shifting causes the truck to jerk and not accelerate.when the truck will eventually does down shift the gas pedal must be all the way at the floor and accelerates at full speed.bulletin pip5342a supposedly addresses the concern but says it is normal. Gm tells the dealer not to attempt to fix.i have had multiple times where this problem has put me at risk for an accident.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that while driving, the check engine warning light illuminated and the power steering would malfunction. The contact would pull over and restart the vehicle but the issue would recur. The dealer (nyle maxwell gmc3000 i-35, round rock, tx 78681 (512) 244-8000) diagnosed the failure and replaced the steering gear. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall remedy for nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering) ended october of 2018. The failure mileage was 67,528.
Oil cooler lines substantial leak lost large amount of oil no warnings, luckily was able to pull over after receiving call that truck leaked oil on fathers driveway. Checked dipstick before having towed for repair and it was dry. If failure were to occur on highway could result in catastrophic failure of engine leading to accident.
For months my gmc canyon will start first thing in the morning, i will drive up tp the first or second stop light and my truck will begin to shake and act like it will shut off. Sometime it will die other times it just shakes. I took it into the dealership and they could not resolve the issue. This usually occurs 2-3 times per week.
On cold starts, the engine will stall at first stop. Typically this is at the first stop light or stop sign in the morning on the way to work. This is beginning to happen several times a week. It also has happened after sitting for several hours. It only appears to happen when starting the truck after the engine has cooled. Prior to stalling, the engine will hesitate and the rpms drop until ultimately stalling. I have called the gmc number and have asked the dealership to check it out. It cannot be duplicated by them and they say gm has not issued a recall or bulletin to repair.
The truck falls on it's face when accelerating after slowing down. The dealership says nothing is wrong. This is a dangerous situation. I have talked with other canyon owners and they have the same problem.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the engine stalled numerous times while idling at a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to todd wenzel buick gmc of davison (1146 south state road, davison, michigan, (810) 655-9587) for diagnostic testing, but the dealer was unable to locate a failure code. The dealer also test drove the vehicle and was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000.
The headlights on this truck are so dim that at night it is difficult to see the road you are driving on. Gmc needs to address the problem with a headlight replacement or major improvement.
My 215 extended cab, long bed gmc canyon slt has 13,000 miles and no accidents or hard driving (almost exclusively driven on the road) with some short hauling of loads locally (1500 lbs or less).no major work has been done to the engine or transmission.today (9 oct 17), i was taking a short drive to home depot from my house (~6 mi), almost immediately i began to smell a strong odor of gasoline (travelled half a block)...i had just driven the truck on friday to work and smelled no odor, so i thought it must be a vehicle in front of me.but the odor persisted and was worst waiting at stoplights.i smelled gas again on the way back home and new it must be my truck.after i parked i popped the hood with the engine running and smelled no gas, upon returning to the cab to shut the engine off, i smelled strong gas again, and looked down under my truck and saw gas slowly dripping on the driveway.i shut the truck off and the gas continued to stream slowly down the side of the tank - it appears to be originating from the where the fuel lines connect to the in-tank fuel pump on top of the fuel tank.i could reach the top of the filler tube with my hand and it was dry, when i removed the fuel cap, there was no pressure so the fuel must be coming from the fuel feed line or the return line connections.after a few minutes with the engine off the leak stopped.the tank was not overflowing because it was only half full. I plan to have the vehicle towed to the dealer in st louis for repairs.i thought the lines might have been chewed by an animal (squirrel), but the lines are steel.i willfind out more from the dealer once it is repaired.
The truck falls on it's face when accelerating after slowing down. The dealership says nothing is wrong. This is a dangerous situation. I have talked with other canyon owners and they have the same problem.
When driving the car get hard to steering side to side and a waining light for service come on. Try to get service but when the car is turn off light come off and can't be detected by the diagnostic system.the fuel system i change 3 new fuel cap and still show tide you cap or the engine sign
Vehicle has a bad shudder where it is causing drivability issues. This occurs mainly when driving up an incline when at about 1200 rpm. Truck will sometimes jerk and shake and has poor throttle response causing dangerous driving conditions. This has happened several times over the coarse of about 3 months with the last instance occurring today.
Transmission does not shift properly will not down shift hesitating and feels like truck is misfiring ruff shifts clunking sound problems start at about 20 mph when trying to speed up in traffic truck will not down shift or will downshift to violently causing truck to lundge forward and nearly rear-end car in front this is dangerous and could cause an accident gm seems to be ignoring this problem even though there seems to be quite a few people with the same complaint
Transmission started shuddering very badly when taking off from a stop sign under wet conditions. This occurred when throttle was reduced after the rear wheels broke traction. Gm knows about the transmission issues and the dealership has refused to repair it.
The transmission does not down shift when climbing a small hill in normal traffic at normal speeds. I constantly have to use the manual transmission to make the truck downshiftor i have to press on the grass in order to bring the rpm up a little higher using more fuel than required. This in itself is dangerous since i am in then middle of traffic. When i purchased the truck none of the recall were on carafe nor did the dealer inform me that this vehicle type and model has already had several recalls affecting its performance and safety. There is also something wrong with the defrost system whether its on heat or cool. There is a rattling noise that can be heard over the fan noise when the vehicle air conditioner is switch to the defrost mode. I am truly disappointed and very concerned for my safety. Gm should have pulled this vehicle off the market!
Transmission does not down shift at speeds between 27 mph and 40 mph, at 30 mph you have to put pedal to the floor then it will shift and tachometer goes around 4000 and takes off like a dragster .watch out for the guy in front of you! now hit the brakes, real cute . Dealer tested said yes it does it but we need a tsb beforewe can do anything called gmc theysaid file a complaint with nhtsathat i think is pretty cute also $ 38000 and your told to file a complaint [email protected] people already there complaining also[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
Vehicle upshifts too early at low speeds requiring additional accelerator input then downshifts 2 gears to compensate. This happens regularly when going around 15-20 miles an hour uphill or while making right turns while vehicle is in motion. When the vehicle is searching for the correct gear the accelerator pedal is numb for at least 2 seconds requiring at least 90 percent throttle then it finally picks a low gear and violently throws the driver and passengers back and roars to life. The 2 or more seconds of hesitation could be very dangerous in an emergency situation when quick acceleration is needed. My concerns were voiced to bowser buick gmc on 11/20/2015 during my first oil change and they provided me with service bulletin #pip5342 which states "shudder or chuggle when accelerating at low speeds of 12-15 mph in second gear is normal operation of the automatic transmission and the torque converter clutch. No repair attempts should be attempted to address this concern"they refused to make any repairs and said that i was added to a list of others with similar complaints.
Vehicle shifting lags and hesitates then engages abruptly causing unsafe acceleration. Specifically entering an on-ramp. When trying to merge into traffic from a slower ramp speed to join highway speeds the vehicle struggles to find the proper gear. In order to offset this problem the driver needs to depress the accelerator further to help the transmission downshift to a lower gear. However, doing so while the transmission is searching for the proper gear causes the vehicle to suddenly lurch forward with more force and acceleration then is required or safe. I have brought my truck into the dealership twice for this issue and was told that gm states that this is the normal operating conditions of the truck. I feel this is not an adequate response and certainly does nothing to address the safety issue of a transmission that disengages to search for a proper gear and then reengages abruptly causing the driver to make unnecessary and unsafe adjustments to keep the vehicle under control.

I was taking off from a stop sign and turning right into traffic. Acceleration was moderate while completing the turn where i had to reduce the throttle to prevent the tires from spinning. The transmission shifted into too high of a gear as a result and did not downshift when 50% plus throttle position was applied. Engine had lack of power.i had to stomp it to the floor to get it to downshift. By this time traffic was coming up on me fast because of the excessive delay trying to get the transmission to respond. The truck has the most current software updates based on what the dealership told me.
While driving at a steady speed, when attempting to lightly or moderately accelerate, a lack of power is noticed due to torque converter lockup. Engine comes close to stalling out.in may 2016, i was informed gm engineering was aware of the problem were working on a solution.during a followup visit in september 2016, i was informed that gm no longer considered it a problem and were no longer working on a solution.gm tac # 8-2110571583.there has not been a specific accident related to a lack of acceleration when expecting to accelerate, there remains the potential especially when merging into freeway traffic during peak travel times.the gm district service mgr drove the truck and informed me that there was no issue as he drove the same vehicle type and had the same performance.per recent gm marketing, the 2017 gmc canyon features a completely re-designed transmission.i believe this issue with the transmission is a safety issue caused by a poorly designed transmission.
Have 20000 miles on truck and transmission still does accelerate smoothly.there is hesitation while transmission find right gear.while towing travel trailer transmission will accelerate but not deaccelerate till i reduce speedmanually.very dangerous.
The transmission causes dangerous driving conditions. I have the same complaint as several others have reported.the transmission fails to downshift at lower speeds causing the hesitation when acceleration is needed. Pressing down further on the accelerator will lunge forward possible into crowed road way.
I would just like to add my truck to the complaints.i am at 24000km on my canyon and the transmission still hasn't learned anything.the transmission problems are the exact same as the other complaints on here.its horrible and unsafe driving this truck everyday in the city.this issue needs to be taken care of before an accident does happen.issue: transmission programing
Vehicle stalls then jerks forward when accelerating and decelerating. Jerking causes brief loss of control as vehicle lurches forward while transmission attempts to catch up. This occurs at any moment while driving (uphill, downhill, turning, city streets and highways) seems to occur most when speeds are under 60 mph. Causes very unsafe conditions and check engine light goes on and off. Occurred today and has occurred almost everyday since i've owned the vehicle. (2 years)

This happens regularly when going around 15-20 miles an hour uphill or while making right turns while vehicle is in motion. The 2 or more seconds of hesitation could be very dangerous in an emergency situation when quick acceleration is needed. My concerns were voiced to bowser buick gmc on 02/02/2015 during my first oil change.they informed me that gmc is working on programming for the sierra right now and when it's satisfactory, they will implement it on the canyons.no repair attempts were made to address this concern.they refused to make any repairs and said that i was added to a list of others with similar complaints.
While driving at low speeds the transmission seems to float between gears as if trying to find the proper gear. Normally it takes so long that i have to push down on the gas to force the truck to shift.it does to a lower gear which makes it jump from the excess power.at high speeds, pressing on the gas pedal is non responsive as the transmission continues to look for the right gear.a manual fix for safety purposes (especially in traffic and need an answer from my transmission) is to change it to manual shifting where i control the gears.this is a band aid fix at the moment and is quite interesting that i am able to shift my vehicle better than a computer.please look into this issue.i am going to take it to the dealership but as i read in the numerous reports from other 2015 canyon owners....gmc is not admitting or does not have a fix. This issue occurs all the time so selecting a date of when this issue happened is not effective.
The truck does not shift properly, i experience rough shifts. It doesn't downshift, feels like truck is misfiring, and i experience slow throttle response.overall i don't feel safe in this truck and sincerely regret my purchase.i've given the transmission a chance to break in and learn, but it's a real problem.
Service 4wd message again appears.when driving and switching into 4wd received this message.third time, needs "reprogramming" .filed complaint with gm about a design flaw and no satisfaction.
While driving with vehicle in four wheel auto the transfer case engaged in to 4 wheel high and would not disengage. This would be more of great safety concern in the event that a driver is not able to pull over and stop. The vehicle would not disengage the four wheel drive and required to be towed to dealership.the work performed to correct this issue indicated there was an excessive amount of corrosion in the the connectors related to the "range selector" and other related components. This appeared to fix the issue, however the issue has resurfaced over time and again seems related to corrosion. In more recent occurrences the vehicle engaged into four wheel drive while driving and it was not set in four wheel auto. This is extremely concering as i stoped using four wheel auto because of this past event. Again this engagement of the four wheel drive when the driver is not able to respond accordingly could lead to injury.
The truck falls on it's face when accelerating after slowing down. The dealership says nothing is wrong. This is a dangerous situation. I have talked with other canyon owners and they have the same problem.
Power steering assist shuts off while driving on normal.
Truck transmission causes dangerous driving conditionsi have same complaint as several others in the nhtsa customer complaint section. Basically the transmission fails to downshift at lower speeds causing the vehicle to hesitate when acceleration is needed until it downshifts appropriately. Pressing down hard on the accelerator will result in a downshift, but this is a potentially dangerous maneuver in crowed road conditions.

Seems the volume of this complaint warrants a gmc response.
Automatic transmission. When going up a slight incline transmission stall on down shifting.driver must float the gas peddle or press for additional acceleration in order to climb a slight incline on regular road traffic . Incline could be no more than 15 degrees
At low speeds, doesn't matter if you are turning or going straight, the transmission will not shift properly when applying pressure to the gas pedal.it feels like you are driving a manual transmission in 4th gear when it should be in 2nd.when it does shift, it will drop two gears and you could be on top of the car in front of you.the canyon's transmission is not predictable and could put you in a dangerous position in traffic.have had the vehicle at the dealer where they applied an update per a gm bulletin, helped some but still have the problem.transmission makes a terrible grinding/howling noise at low speed.gm says this is a normal characteristic of this truck, i say it is dangerous.gm needs to better address this problem than they have.this happens everyday the truck is driven.
Had vehicle serviced under warranty several times for transmission issues. I was told by the dealer i had the most current software updates as of march of 2018. Vehicle continues to behave badly under certain circumstances. Transmission does not downshift properly if needing to accelerate hard. Engine rpm's rev to about 5,000 rpm and the transmission goes into too low of a gear, until the correct gear is found. This causes a delay in response that creates a safety hazard. Had only one instance where the truck accelerated hard out of a 90 degree turn even though only light pedal was used. Transmission shutters under light load when going up a slight upgrade. Dealership doesn't not want to acknowledge there is a problem. I was told i would be contacted if future updates were available and have heard absolutely nothing.
Between 20 and 40 mph truck fails to shift to a lower gear and increase speed.this causes the driver to keep pressing on the gas and then vehicle decides to shift to a lower gear and lurches forward, if you're in traffic this is when the vehicle is most dangerous and if the weather is severe (snow or ice) could cause you to loose control of vehicle.i've notified gm through their assistance center and have yet tohear from a gm engineer.the shifting problem is well documented on the web.
Vehicle will not down shift when slowing from a higher speed and then needing to accelerate.vehicle will "chug" and squat until it eventually down shifts, often times through two or more gears causing over acceleration and over revving of engine.couple of times when coming to full stop at stop sign, vehicle stays in 5th or 6th gear upon acceleration for a few seconds and then jumps gears to pick up speed.driving on cruise in moderate hills, vehicle will not down shift soon enough until eventually enough speed is lost that vehicle down shifts multiple gears from approximately 1800 rpm to well over 3000.problem manifests itself in both city and highway driving.

Lost power steering, power steering service message, abs light, traction control light, and "!" light all came on.matches up to recall information available. Took it to chevy, it's not covered, costing $400. This should have been covered in the power steering recall
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 60 to 65 mph on a four lane divided highway with the cruise control activated, the power steering failed. The vehicle was pulled over to the shoulder, turned off, and restarted. The power steering pinion, gear, and electronic brake control module were all replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 7,458.
Low speed braking becomes difficult as resistance in the pedal makes it difficult to stop the vehicle when in motion at lower speeds. The vehicle also leaks fluid. Dealership informs me the vacuum pump has a leak which may be causing this issue and the leak. Vehicle has been leaking fluid, an oil or oil like substance for about 10 months.
I was parked. When i started the truck i put it in reverse. While backing up i applied the brakes. The power for the brakes was gone. I had to slam as hard as i could to stop the truck. A very scary situation. I heard there was a recall for this problem. I went to this website to find out. It states there are no recalls on thistruck. This is a very dangerous problem. If gmc puts a product out like this they should fix the problem. I took it to the dealer all he said to me was it dangerous and it would cost this much to check it out. Nothing about it was a recall or not. Please let me know if this is on them as i still have to drive the truck.
Rear brake squeak and long stopping distance.anti-locking function does not engage and the braking system does not skid/lock up the tires in an emergency stop.rear pads do not match size of the rear discs. Rusty dust build up.gm has attempted to fix 3x and indicates that there is no fix for the issue.squeaking on every stop will not allow driver to discern if the pads are worn or not.
Brakes squeak on every stop.will not be able to determine when the pads need changed since the squeak is same as the pad worn indicators.also vehicle will not stop with antilock brakes or skid the tires.it stops, but is mushy.

While driving with a passenger iloss all power steering and had to struggle to maintain control at 45 mph on a state road . This has happen before and had been address at the dealer was lead to believe that it was a reprogram .i am in fear of driving this and have a unexpected loss of control . Will be dropping it off tonight to a dealer and will demand this to be fixed .
Random power steering loss
While driving the electrical power steering goes out and so does 'stabilitrak.' turning the car off and on again will some times reset the electrical issue and power steering will work fine, but the issue always comes back and some times no matter how many times you turn the car off and back on, the power steering will not come back on. I have paid to get this fixed at my local gmc dealership, but the same problem has persisted and the dealership is telling me to pay again for a fix.
Steering assistance stop working while driving couldn't turn almost crashed light came on and power steering went out on it
My canyon truck steering stop working while driving and it is very hard to turn if it would of been any faster i would of crashed and it does not return . I was reading the recall on that year gmc say it comes back ,thatis false once the issue a raises you do have control of vehicle
I had brought my canyon in to get the steering rack replaced because of the power steering issue and the recall.i ended up having to drive my truck to the dealer without power steering when i got it fixed.now that the steering rack has been replaced there's slack in my steering wheel while i'm driving.the dealer now says that i need to change my steering column because there's slack in the joints in the steering column that is causing the play in the steering wheel.there was no play in the steering prior to this no power steering event and it certainly seems that driving the truck without power steering caused this issue with the joints in the steering column that now they want to charge me $800 to fix.this repair should be covered since it's pretty apparent that the recall issue, driving without power steering, caused this issue as well.
The truck will lose power steering at any time or speed while the truck is moving. The message on the dash reads service steering assist. When iam driving it can pull the steering wheel out of your hands it's very dangerous. I reported this to my dealer and gmc last year they found nothing wrong but it is still doing it. When you can get the truck to the side of the road and turn it off and back on it is fine for a while and it will do it again the same way.now dealer is saying the steering gear assembly needs replacing at a very high price. I think its electrical. There is a recall for a plug but for some reason my truck does not fall under that recall but is still having the same problem. I think someone is going to be severely hurt or killed by this problem. They need to fix this at their cost not mine.worried.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving 40 mph, the power steering failed, the warning light illuminated, and a "vehicle servicing and drive carefully" chime was heard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. Have lost steering assist twice in the last week.
While driving down the interstate, alarms and display messages appeared indicating that my stabilitrack and power steering were out.i did in fact lose power steering and had to drive without power steering for approximately 20 miles before i could safely pull over.once i pulled over, i turned the vehicle off and turned it back on and i regained power steering.this was extremely dangerous and there appears to have been a recall for this same issue in 2016; however, my vehicle was not included in the recall despite it having a build date of march 2015.
While driving, power steering was disabled. Luckily not while turning. Stabilitrac was was engaged, but was forced to drive without power steering for appx. 30 minutes with a 3 month old and spouse. Once home, turned vehicle off, then back on to move it appx. 5-10 minutes later and power steering was back to working properly. Took vehicle to mechanic, was given gm recall bulletin 15595a and told he could not repair, i needed to call dealer. Called dealer and gmc customer service to be told by both that my vin is not covered. Despite exact same symptoms gmc was not willing to diagnose without charge since vehicle is out of warranty. Gmc refuses to confirm if my vin may have been missed when recall issued without charging. Therefore leaving me the option to 1. Pay fees and over priced dealer service charges to diagnose and address the same problem that affected other 2015 gmc canyons or 2. Risk the same issue while driving cross-state within a week due to work requirements and lack of availability of a 'company car.'
While driving at 60 mph there was a sudden complete loss of power steering while on a curve where i almost went head on into another vehicle. The control panel lit up with check power steering and stabiltrac. Power steering will come back if i turn the vehicle off and then back on several times. This has occured at least 10 times, and gmc hasn't included my vehicle in the recall. This is a very dangerous fault in the vehicle manufacturing!!

Lafontaine buick gmc replaced the part. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: rq19001 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was less than 60,000.
Loss of steering. Previously there was a recall on canyon vehicles builtfrom january to march of 2015, but my vehicle was built 6/23/15 and the problem still exist. I'm asking for an extended recall because of the safety issue in losing the steering. I just came off of i-80 at highway speeds and was pulling into a parking lot when the steering when out. Five more times that day the steering went out on the way home. Good thing there wasn't a person walking by me or good thing it didn't go out when i was on the high way especially changing lanes.i had the dealer "richardson motors" in dubuque, iowa diagnose the problem at $135.00. The steering quit on me 5 times that day while i was driving from 2 mph to 25 mph..
Power steering assist shuts off while driving on normal.
My sister was driving the truck when the power steering quit working while vehicle was being driven at highway speed.the steering still worked but was no longer power assisted.turning off then restarting seems to have resolved the problem for now.
Today, i started the truck, a warning said power steering was out, have it serviced. Could hardly move the steering wheel. Took it right to the dealer. Shut the engine off. Service guy came out turned it on, steering was o.k. He told me to drive it around and if the problem occurs again bring it back.
While driving , lost power steering assist, very hard to steer. Tookto dealer and got the following error code - c0545 - steering wheel torque sensor.this has happened twice and in both occasions, it is very hard to steer . In both instances, driving on the highway and very hard to pull over. Once you e error dissapears
Lost power steering, power steering service message, abs light, traction control light, and "!" light all came on.matches up to recall information available. Took it to chevy, it's not covered, costing $400. This should have been covered in the power steering recall
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that while in line at a drive thru restaurant, the power steering failed. The power steering and traction control warning lights illuminated. An unknown message was also displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to the steer the vehicle into a parking space. The vehicle was turned off and restarted however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to bentley buick gmc (2120 drake ave sw, huntsville, al 35805) where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering module needed be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the service power steering and service stabili-trak messages appeared on the instrument panel while the vehicle loss power steering functionality. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

While driving on a two lane narrow mountain road stab/track light illuminated and power steering went off. Pulled over to side of road to assess the situation. Turned ignition off and when i turned it back on problem went away. Next day while driving on a straight road same warning light indication and power steering failed. Put transmission in neutral turned ignition off then back on and problem went away. Took vehicle to dealer several days later for repair. Dealer told me four software updates were incorporated. Problem occurred again about four weeks later while driving on a straight road about a half hour after encountering a moderate rain squall. Returned vehicle to dealer three weeks ago and they still have the vehicle in their shop. I have received no information as to the status of the repair effort. I consider this phenomena extremely dangerous. I am 6'3" and weigh 250 pounds. When the power steering fails it is all i can do to keep the vehicle under control.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving various speeds, the power steering failed and the stabilizer warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to premier gmc (2000 eastern rd, rittman, oh 44270, (888) 564-1107) where it was diagnosed that the power steering failed and the rack and pinion needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 71,000. *as
Would randomly experience loss of electrical power steering assist.loss of assist would happen at all times, while stationary, while driving straight, while turning, at hi low or no speeds.needed to park vehicle and turn off and restart vehicle to restore power steering assist.operator would be prompted with a "loss of power steering, drive with care" warning.scanning with obdii tool showed the loss of steering assist was always tied to u0420 dtc.errors were occurring in august so temps were between 70 and 100 degrees f.error is behaving exactly like a loose electrical connection, probably to the power steering torque sensor.vehicle was taken to dealership and appeared to be exhibiting the exact same symptoms as nhtsa recall 16v054000.tried to get gm to honor this repair however they claimed my vehicle is not in the affected 2015 model year date range. Dealer performed the same repair defined by the recall and have not had any power steering loss for last 3 weeks since receiving vehicle back from dealer.if the error was not fixed i would have expected it to continue happening at the same frequency as before (2-5 times per day)
Driving down the road at 50 mph and, without warning, the power steering failed.
The power steering keeps turning off. Has done this many times over the few years i've owned it. It's turned of being stationary and driving down the highway
Driving at 65mph on sunday, 2/9/2020. Loss of power steering while on the 5 freeway. Very scary! luckily not many cars and had to pull over to the side of the road. Waited a couple of minutes and restarted the car and was able to drive on the freeway again since there were no side roads that would take me to my destination. It happened again when i got home but luckily i was off of the freeway at the time. On monday, 2/10/2020 it happened again but luckily traffic was going less than 30 mph and i was able to slowly pull off of the 10west freeway.
Power steering goes out mid drive while the car is in motion and it does not function again until i pull over, turn the ignition off, and restart the car.this is extremely dangerous and is an electrical issue - the mechanical power steering works fine until the symptoms occur again.i first alerted my dealer 2 years ago and they say that it is not throwing a code.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the power steering warning light illuminated a few seconds before the vehicle loss power steering assist. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was restarted and operated as intended. Temecula valley buick gmc (27420 ynez rd, temecula, ca 92591, (951) 216-2260) was contacted by phone and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I was driving the car in the giant eagle parking lot and the power assist for the steering stopped working.a notice came on the dashboard screen indicating the same and stated that this malfunction could cause a crash.i stopped the car, turned the engine off, and restarted the car.the notice on the dashboard went away and the steering power assist functioned normally.i drove the car for a week without recurrence.i made an appointment at the gmc dealership and after looking at the vehicle they concluded that they could not identify the problem since the steering was operating properly.i had indicated that there was a recall notice nhsta reference #s 15595 and 16v054000 covering a potential steering assist failure but was told that these recall notices did not apply to my vehicle.the vehicle was returned to me with instructions to bring the car in for service the next time it happens.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving between 20-60 mph, the power steering malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. The failure occurred on four separate occasions. After turning the engine off and restarting the vehicle, the power steering operated as normal. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to fountain auto mall (8701 s orange blossom trail, orlando, fl 32809, (407) 240-3800). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
While i was driving the power steering went out and it was very difficult to turn the vehicle.the dash gave a warning that read power steering. Drive with care.i stoped the vehicle, turned it off and back on again and it seemed to reset and worked.this has happened twice in the last two days.i see that there was a recall for 2015 gmc canyon for this issue but my car was not on the recall list.i was driving about 25 mph the first time and about 45 mph the second time on city street.it is very difficult to drive the truck when this happened.i just bought the truck used last week so i do not know if the previous owner had the same issue.
While driving the power steering fails. The election control check light comes on during this time. This starts when driving and only resets itself once the vehicle is turned off and back on several times.
The power steering goes out while driving power steering and stabiltrac lights come on this has happened twice on the highway. If you stop and restart engine steering works. This is dangerous loss of power assist steering
The power steering assist has shut down three times making it very hard to stir.this last time it happen i was in heavy traffic and almost wrecked.my wife is 4'11" and 95 pounds and is scared to drive the truck.i am too now since the event yesterday.the truck was taken to the dealer for the third time yesterday which i was close to when it happened yesterday.i drive it without the power assist to make sure they understand how hard it is to drive.it was in the dealer 3 or 4 weeks ago for a recall for this problem.after 3 times i nor my wife want to drive the truck again.if it keeps happening we will eventually wreck.the truck has only approximately 16,000 miles on it.
Power steering went out several times as i was driving
As i was driving my truck, i had a loss of power steering assist and my dashboard displayed warnings. I was on able to steer the truck and almost veered off the road. I had to stop abruptly.i turned off the engine and restarted the truck. The power steering again worked. I took it to the dealer and they said that i needed to replace the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear. They said there was a problem with the electrical connection in the electronic steering gear. Thisis the exact same issue in recall number 15595b.they said my vehicle was not listed on the recall and that it was manufactured a couple months before the recall dates. It is obviously the same issue so i called gm and they just were talking in circles. I cannot afford a $2000 repair. It is so obvious it is the same issue and not to recognize it is criminal in my opinion. This is a very dangerous problem. They need to fix this before people get killed on the road.
Power steering failed on highway and vehicle was very hard to steer and control. Was very difficult to steer off the highway. Dangerous.
I was making a right-hand turn in town when the power steering quit almost hitting a car that was sitting at the intersection. I kept driving like a log wagon until i got home. I turned the truck off and then back on which seemed to unlock the steering wheel. But now every time i drive this truck it averages at least 2 to 3 time shutting the steering down. It started at 34500 miles. I called everyone i can think of to see if they know what it takes to fix it. No luck.
2015 gmc canyon crew can 4 wd has intermittently had power steering fail. My wife has almost wrecked twice due to not being able to steer vehicle. Called dealer & was tolls " it's not safety issue nor is it covered under warranty. Wife was driving on freeway at @ 65-70 mph on all 6 times this has happened. With cruise control on & suddenly lights come on the dash & it becomes very difficult to turn the vehicle, making it very unsafe foranyone to drive especially if you don't have great strength to turn wheel.
While making a turn, power steering went out, message to service system displayed on dash. Stopped car, steering reset but went out a few minutes later. Happend several times during the day.
Power steering goes out while driving occasionally and randomly. Impossible for me to make tight turns in this situation. Happened several times randomly at different speeds, different weather patterns.
While i was driving on the highway at approximately 60 mph, the power steering stopped working, two warning lights lit up and received two service messages on the screen, one relating to the power steering the other relating to the stabilitrak. Fortunately, the stretch of highway was a straight drive, no turns, at the time this happened. After turning off the vehicle and then restarting, the power steering returned to normal operation and would work for some period of time, but would then would stop working without any notice. This has happened 3 times in the last 75 miles that i have driven. The truck has only been driven a total of 54,000 miles. Given that this happened multiple times, i have stopped driving the vehicle. It is now with a gmc dealer waiting to be repaired. The symptoms of my problem seem to be very similar to the odi investigation rq 19-001 when i searched for gmc canyon power steering issues.
While operating the vehicle, a problem with the steering light came on and the power steering was lost making the vehicle hard to operate and steer.looking back on the records, on 09/21/2015 a service bulletin came out, "loss of electric power steering assist expires with base warranty"on 10/28/2015 field action recall, power steering control module reprogramming with sps.dealer states $1450 to fix.this should be a safety recall.called gm, they said that this is no longer covered.this is a accident waiting to happen. 10
Driving down the road the power steering and the traction control stability goes away. Steering is very hard unable to turn.
Several times, while driving vehicle lost power steering then stabilitrak activated and truck started veering left.vehicle was in motion.when vehicle was restarted power steering returned for approximately a mile.during that mile test run stabilitrak was on and vehicle was still veering left.
Over the past three days our gmc canyon has unexpectedly lost power steering as we were driving down the road. When the power steering goes out, the icons for stabilitrack and traction control also pop up on the instrument panel. Power steering is only restored by turning the engine off then back on again. This issue occurred 3 times within approximately 30 minutes today as we were driving between 45 and 60 mph on a two lane rural highway that was recently resurfaced. This vehicle was not included in the 2016 recall for a similar sounding issue.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving 30 mph, the power steering became very difficult to turn left or right. The power steering and stabilitrack warning indicators illuminated when the failure occurred. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact was able to drive back home normally. The failure occurred two other times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (mcelveen buick gmc, 117 farmington rd, summerville, sc 29483) and the contact was informed that the vin was not included in the recall. The contact had to pay for the repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 866-636-2273 and stated that they would have the senior advisor look into the case inform the contact by 5:00 pm on 9/28/17. The manufacturer provided case number: [xxx] and asked the contact to call nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 38,817.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Experiencing loss of power steering while driving. There has been a recall for this issue, but my vin number, [xxx], does not fall into the parameters for the recall. Presently, the vehicle is at henry brown buick gmc in gilbert, arizona. This is a very dangerous condition! the recall must be expanded!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
1.purchased this vehicle new form dealership.2.on date i listed while driving a straight rural road (about 15 minutes of driving) the "service" indicator light came on with message stating that power steering was not working, along with several other indicator lights- tire pressure/traction control???3.my concern- if you are going straight car/truck can be steered with effort. It becomes almost impossible for me (6'0" 180 lbs) to steer when turning or maneuvering. I hope the danger is apparent to you from what i have stated. When i got to my destination (drove slow and very controlled on rural roads, 15 minutes) i did some errands with the plan to get the truck in for service. When i came out to leave, started truck- everything was back to normal- like nothing ever happened.4.today, june 26, out doing errands- same scenario occurred- no warning except for "service" indicator in middle of my drive- no power steering. Again- very difficult to steer and maneuver. Everything is fine, back to normal, when i stopped and re-started the truck.5.gmc said their power steering is new on the this vehicle- "electronic" no belt, etc. 6.almost seems like a computer issue, like a re-boot on the system, when the engine is turned off and then re-started.7.if this situation would occur to others- people could die as the result of accidents. Please check into this and see if there may be a problem with the electronic steering/computer on the gmc canyon chevrolet colorado. Updated 10/31/2017
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the electric power steering warning indicator flashed and the power steering failed while driving approximately 70 mph. The contact had to maneuver the steering wheel at a high rate of speed with extreme difficulty. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering) according to the manufacturer and mcconnell automotive (3150 dauphin st, mobile, al 36606, (251) 476-4141); although, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as listed in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Power steering would go out going down the road would have to pull over and restart vehicle. Took it to dealer they said steering rack went bad and had to pay $2000 for new steering rack.
Power steering stopped working while driving.truck was extremely difficult to turn and dangerous to drive.problem was temporarily resolved by turning off the truck and restarting it.the symptom is exactly the same as those described in recall no. 16v054000, but i have been informed that my truck is not included in the recall.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving various speeds, the steering seized. The vehicle was able to be operated, but excessive effort was needed to turn the vehicle. In addition, the power steering and stabilitrak warning indicators illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,295.
On several occasions i have lost all power steering after getting 2 service warnings.in this type of vehicle with electric power assist steering, it is increasing difficult to steer.(worse than an old truck without power steering)in the event of an emergency, if this were to happen suddenly, i can not see how it would be possible to maintain control of the vehicle.i am getting 2 warnings.the first is to "service stabilitrack" at the same time, "service power steering drive with care".at this point i lose all power steering.the errors occur when driving, and have always happened at highway and interstate speeds (40+ mph?).in all initial instances, the truck was traveling on well maintained roads, which were straight.i was not making any turns such as a traffic signal or intersection.on occasions i have been able to pull over, stop, turn the truck off, restart and the error clears.in the last 2 days i have cleared the error, but it returns with the same result,no power steering.after reading some reviews online, it seems to be a somewhat common issue, and most result in a loss of power steering.my truck is currently at the dealer and the part was not immediately available (possibly showing the number of issues??)the dealership has stated that it is the 'steering gear', or rack & pinion which has failed.the vehicle has additionally had a recall for similar issues, but the dealership stated that it was for a 'software update'.this is said to have been the fix in other similar situations. I see this as a serious safety issue, the most serious i have had in any truck i have owned.this is the reason for filing this report.
I just purchased a used 2015 gmc canyon. A day after purchasing, on startup, the dash had a warning saying "service power steering, drive with care."i could not drive at all. I couldn't turn the wheel to leave. After a few minutes it started working again. I feel lucky that this happened while the vehicle was stationary, and not at highway speed as this could have been deadly.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph and while making a right turn, the power steering fault message displayed in the instrument panel and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. An unknown dealer was contacted and informed of the failure however, the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle loss power steering assist with the traction control warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle however, the failure persisted. An unknown dealer was contacted and the contact was informed that the vehicle was repaired previously under nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000. The vin was not available.
Power steering will go out without warning.there is a recall on 2015 gmc canyon built between january 6 and march 15, 2015.i purchased my gmc on december 23, 2014.i received my vehicle on march 4, 2015.it is very concerning with the steering goes out as it is extremely difficult to steer.i am told by the dealer that my vin number does not apply to the recall even though my production date falls within the criteria.my vehicle is experiencing the exact characteristics of the recall.the dealer did inform me that there was a reset for my power steering, which i paid them $50 to do and the problem persists.your assistance with this dangerous problem would be appreciated.
The power steering assist stopped working on a city street.extremely difficult to steer.the second incidence happened on a highway.
Today my powersteering shut off six times while driving about eight miles between twenty and thirty miles an hour each time i had to pull over and restart truck.called dealer and was told recall was done on truck 11/2015with 15000 miles on it now has 37500 gm needs to fix this.will take to dealer 08/16/2019
I was driving down a four lane highway about 45mph and lost power steering, which made truck hard to control and steer.warning light check steering stabilizer and drive with caution came on!once i got to destination turned truck off for about 30 minutes and it went back to normal!
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the power steering failed and the power steering stability warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (mcgrath buick gmc cadillac, 1040 n center point rd, hiawatha, ia 52233) where it was diagnosed that the system needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and did not assist. The failure mileage was 92,608.
Loss of electric power steering while moving at speeds below 30 mph.
While driving vehicle on jan 31, 2020 the power steering and stability control shut off while traveling at 70mph.this was extremely dangerous.this is the second time in less than two weeks.i understand gnc did a recall for this problem but did not cover my vehicle
Power steering and stability control drop out while driving at any speed. Turning the vehicle off and cranking again will restore power steering. Sometimes this must be done 2 or 3 times to get power steering back. This is happening daily.
2015 gmc canyon.consumer writes in regards to vehicle steering wheel vibration while driving and transmission problems.consumer has different vehicle complaint in artemis.
Occasionally, while driving a warning chime sounds and power steering fails.it becomes very difficult to steer the truck and two warnings are displayed, "power steering disabled" and "stabilitrak off". If i pull over, stop, and turn off the enginethe problem clears upon restart.this is incredibly dangerous.the problem has occurred while driving slowly and at highway speeds.it is happening more frequently with increasing mileage.current mileage is 70k but has been happening since about 40k.
Loss of power steering. Stabilitrak lights comes on along with traction control. Has happened at multiple speeds.
Entering on to rte 50 (my left side) in maryland, my power steering and stability control lights illuminated and both functions stopped working. I struggled to pull over to the side of the road and turned off the engine. I restarted it and both systems appeared to be working and no lights illumined. I drove for a few miles to get home and when i made a right turn the power steering fault light went on and i lost my power steering again. I was very fortunate that traffic was light and i was not involved in a collision. Had my wife been driving i do not know that she would have been as fortunate. It was extremely difficult to maneuver the truck safely without power steering
Truck loses steering assist without warning going down the road at any speed
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving at an unknown speed, the steering failed and the power steering and stability warning indicators illuminated. The contact called a local dealer (sharrett buick gmc, located at 10312 auto pl hagerstown, md 21740). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 8-3174680341. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 44,000.
My 2015 gmc canyon lost power steering traveling approximately 50mph on a mountain road on one of the first rainy days of the season. It felt like losing more than just steering assistance, as even at that rate of speed the wheel was nearly impossible to turn. I was lucky to be on one of the limited sections of straight road. Rebooting the vehicle returned steering functionality.dealer found code "c0545 - steering torque sensor" and performed safety recall #15595 where they replaced the torque sensor cover. I was charged $200 for the repair despite the recall notice explicitly stating it should be performed free of charge. I have not experienced loss of power steering in the month since the repair.i contacted the gm regional rep, who stated that cars can have the same problem as a safety recall, and the same solution as a safety recall, but not be part of the safety recall. That was the justification for the $200 charge and the denial of reimbursement. Gm further stated that they don't determine the criteria for a safety recall, it is all up to the nhtsa. In other words, they won't do the right thing unless the government forces them to.in my opinion as an engineer, sensor + rain sounds like a plausible match for the symptoms and the problem identified by the safety recall that the dealer performed. I question whether the recall is missing some vin numbers, or if a very similar but independent problem exists on the same components, warranting a separate recall.
Power steering quit working while driving on ohio turnpike. Second time this has happened in last 3 weeks. After turning vehicle off, the power steering returns to working order. Dangerous situation. Vehicle was recalled in 2015 for the same situation.
Loss of power steering intermittently and hard to steer while driving down highway.must pull over and turn off engine.start again to reset. Can happen once or three times before goes away.
Having multiple problems with power steering failure. This has happened on multiple occasions.i have to stop the truck turn it off to get it to reset. Some days it may take turning off the vehicle 15 to 20 times before it will reset

My vehicle lost power steering while in motion. Approximate speed was 65mph. Icons on the dash lit up. I had little to no control over the vehicle. I nearly crashed into several cars around me. I pulled the car off the road, turned all power off, and started the engine after a few minutes. I was able to get the car home without any further problems.
Truck loses power steering going down road. I have to stop put truck in park turn off key and restart vehicle to reset. This is a very dangerous situation.
At least 15 times after 40k miles my truck has started to loose power steering at various times while driving. It becomes almost impossible to steer. After i pull over shut the truck off for about 2min then restart it, it resumes normal operations. Contacted gmc and was told i was responsible and i would have to fix it on my own dime. Please help b4 someone gets hurt.
When driving the car get hard to steering side to side and a waining light for service come on. Try to get service but when the car is turn off light come off and can't be detected by the diagnostic system.the fuel system i change 3 new fuel cap and still show tide you cap or the engine sign
2015 gmc canyon. Consumer writes in regards to frontal airbag safety recall. *ldthe consumer was concerned that the vehicle was not included in the recalls for vehicles with the same make, model and year, due to the vin number.
While driving power steering fail and message reading service power steering message displayed on dashboard along with service stabilatracand message along with stabilatrac and traction control lights illuminated, at time of issue i was going around a turn in which i almost crashed as the steering wheel automatically went into the straight position. This is now happening multiple times a day and i have to put the truck in neutral and shut off and restart it in which sometimes it does not reset. Gm says other truck was not included in the previous recall in which i am now having the same exact issues.
I was driving on interstate 75 and steering went out very dangerous stabilizer warning on dash i pulled over turned off and restarted to get home then took to dealer.this happened in 2018 and was repaired at my costat dealership and the same happened again yesterday 1/26/2021 !
The vehicle's power steering assist failed, so while driving down the highway the warning msg came on with the msg : service power steering drive with careand then it switches to service stabili trak.the vehicle becomes very hard to steer, and it happens often. It started happening around 80000 miles.we might drive it for a couple of days and it doesnt happen at all, then out of no where it will happen multiple times in the same day.it has been checked out by a dealership in broken arrow ok, there is no error codes that show up when a diagnostics test was ran. I have notified gm customer service but they basically said they couldn't help me if it didn't show a code.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving 25 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. Also, the "power steering drive safely" and traction control warning indicators illuminated. The contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to autostar chevrolet buick of waynesville (located at 285 hyatt creek rd, waynesville, nc 28786, (888) 341-3972) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 101,705.consumer stated the problem was found to be a loose connection at the outside connection area. Plug was not completely reconnected after service to transmission. Steering has been fine for last 2500 miles.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving various speeds, the traction control and stability warning indicators illuminated, which caused the steering to seize.
While driving 70 mph on the highway, the power steering seized, the warning light illuminated, and a "vehicle servicing and drive carefully" message was displayed and a chime was heard. The vehicle was very difficult to steer and turn. The vehicle was stopped turned off, restarted and drove to dealer without issues.i see that other owners have experienced this same issue.it is only a matter of time before this issue causes an accident..

Steering wheel locks up while driving and turning to the left. This has happened twice so far, luckily it had returned to normal quickly. Gm has a recall for this but only vehicles made jan.2015 thru march 19, 2015. My truck was made on march 27, 2015. This problem just showed up naturally after warranty.vehicle has 50,501 miles. I have also heard of 2017 models having the same issue. This is a huge safety issue that should not be ignored!

The power steering assistant on this car is turning off while driving. I already took the car to a dealer they charged me $1000 for a cable and the car still doing the same thing and you have a recall on this car but this one is not in the months that the recall was made
Power steering and stabilitrak intermittently go out.has happened while driving straight and also while turning.luckily there was no traffic nearby while turning.it does so without warning and will reset after turning vehicle off (sometimes takes more than one try).i understand there is a recall for the same problem, but only on vehicles built between certain dates.unfortunately my vehicle falls outside the recall parameters.this is a serious safety issue that gmc needs to address
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated that while driving, the check engine warning light illuminated and the power steering would malfunction.
Power steering fails.alarms steering failure, stability errors and that steering may be difficult.this is the exact same error and the recall 16v054000.gmc claims that my vehicle is not one of the effected vehicle.well ii obviously is and gmc is trying to minimize the total number of recalls.the dealer wants a huge amount of money to troubleshoot and possibly repair issue, but they also claim no recall so no help from gmc.the happens at both freeway speed and crawling in traffic.steering wheels jerks then alarms go off. My wife will no longer drive this vehicle as she cannot turn the wheel when this happens and she almost crashed.i have also almost crash when this happened and i was caught by surprise and almost did not make a turn and hit the curb. Alarms will reset if i stop and turn off the vehicle then restart. But that's not really possible at freeway speeds or in local traffic.gmc is hiding the fact that the recall 16v054000 is larger than they claimed.this safety issue needs to be addressed asap before someone is injured or killed because of a known issue the gmc will not own. This has happened at least 5 times now and after contacting gmc they claimed its not there problem and i need to pay to have the truck repaired. First happened december 2018 when gmc was contacted and has not happened 5 more times.the last time on march 31, 2019 it happened twice in less than 1/2 hour.so the issue is getting worse.please let gmc know they missed a few trucks with their recall dates.
Upon start up, power steering has failed numerous times making steering extremely difficult.it has also occured once while in motion, thank goodness at a slow speed. An alert message will pop-up on my dash that says "power steering failure".i understand there is a open investigation regarding this known issue.local dealer was not able to replicate the issue, thus said nothing they could do.this gives me grave concern that it will occur while driving at a higher speed rate, and that someone in the vehicle, or another vehicle will get seriously hurt. Mileage on vehicle is 44,000 miles
The power steering stopped working while driving down the highway. The check engine light, stability track light and the traction control light came on. I was driving straight at the time at 65 mph. It was able 35 degrees outside.
The power steering fails and the truck has to be turned off and back on to clear the problem. First failed a week ago moving at about 10 mph. Failed again while rolling to a stop a few days later. Both times so far was steering straight and in no traffic. Once on pavement and once on dirt road. 45k miles on this 2015 canyon. Very dangerous failure!
Sudden total loss loss of electric power steering assist while driving on the interstate.sudden total loss loss of stability control system while driving on the interstate.
While driving some times on the highway and sometimes when driving slow in the city i lost power steering assist and had to shift to neutral and turn engine off and restart engine again to have power steering working again.have been happening intermittently.
Steering wheel rattles and is distracting to driver.took to dealership and manufacturer is aware of the problem with no current solution as of 4/27/15.i have to drive with my hand pressing down on the steering wheel airbag cover/horn to prevent the rattle.the problem started within a week of buying the vehicle.(a 2015 gmc canyon sle long bed 4x2)driving with a distracting noise in the vehicle can be dangerous and pressing your hand over the airbag cover is also dangerous if the airbag deploys.
The power steering and stability track go out intermittently. When the truck is turned off and restarted they both come back on. It is happens 2 to 3 times a daywhile the truck is in motion and is very dangerous especially when it goes out while in a turn.
Power steering goes out at random times. Received recall from gmc about issue and took to shop. Did not fix! in fact, the power steering went out on the way home from the recall visit. It is impossible for my teenaged children and wife to drive while power steering is out
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving 60 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering assist indicator illuminated. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering assist failed needed to be recalibrated and/or replaced. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and declined to assist since the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The approximate failure mileage was 44,680.
I have a 2015 gmc canyon with 54700 miles on it.on occasion, while driving, the vehicle beeps and displays a message "steering malfunction ..." at which point the steering assist stops working.the vehicle can still be steered but it takes both hands and a lot of effort to turn the wheels, especially at slow speeds. Problem appears to happen mostly when driving on straight or gentle curved roads.shutting off the engine and letting the system "rest" for 5+ minutes allows the power assist steer to reset and start working again, until the next failure.recently had the dealer reinstall the steering software to see if that had any impact.worked good for a few days but the issue returned after several days.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 21v213000 (steering) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle lost power and the power steering assist and traction control warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the "service select a track" message appeared and the steering ability became very difficult. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and shut off the vehicle. After approximately three minutes, the vehicle was restarted and operated normally. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice in a week. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
Power steering assist in the vehicle stopped while driving making it hard to control thevehicle, no warnings or prior issues. It just stopped and to get it going again i would have to turn off the engine, let it sit for a few then start up again in hopes it reset(temporary fix).
While turning off of state rd. Onto a county rd. The power steering quit working right in the middle of my turn and i almost ran off the road if i had not had good upper body strength i would have crashed. I was able to get to my home "about 2 blocks" i tried turning off the ignition to see if it would reset but it would not. I disconnected the battery cable for a short time then reconnected it and it started working again. The next day i took it to the dealer where i bought it and they said there has been problems and they replace rack and pinion system at a cost of about $1200.00 and said there was no active recall so i would have to pay the bill. After doing more research online there has been alot of these failures and i believe this should be recalled.this is the second time this happened but it started working after turning the ignition offand back on. I was not on the road when it happened the first time and i did not report it to the dealer i thought i was just ba fluke and that was 3 or 4 months ago. Thank you phillip mosier
Loss of power steering while driving.frequency of loss is increasing.experienced this effect 6 to 10 times in last 3 months. Can happen in town or interstate driving. Dealer says no recall on this particular unit.
I drove the pickup to work.after being parked a couple of hours i started it to return home. Upon starting, a warning about the need to service the power steering illuminated on the dash display. Steering was extremely heavy and difficult.i immediately took the vehicle to a dealership.at the dealership, the mechanic found that the steering box would need replacement. The truck has 8100 total miles.that figure is not a misprint, it has less than 10,000 miles. Had this occurred while driving, the result could have been deadly. Apparently, this is a known problem with the 2015 canyon and has had certain vehicles recalled, dependent on build date. A brief internet search produced approximately 30 other canyons with this same issue. The dealership is attempting to convince the regional representative from gmc to cover the repair.the truck was one month out of warranty.
On three separate occasions while driving approximately 45 mph a message to service the stabiltrak comes up and the vehicle loses power steering assist. The vehicle is almost impossible to turn at that point. After turning the vehicle off and back on the error clears and the vehicle drives like normal.
The contact owns a 2015 gmc canyon. The contact stated while driving 5 mph on an unpaved gravel road, the vehicle shuddered several times. The vehicle also shuddered while stopped. The vehicle was restarted and the shuddering ceased. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the issue. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with an unknown steering failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 215,000.

The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 16v054000 (steering) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and confirmed that the vin was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
After approx 15 minutes of driving, loss of power steering occurs and vehicle returns a power steering and stabilitrak error message.this has occurred multiple times, both while driving at different speeds and also while stopped.vehicle has only 26,000 miles.
Purchased vehicle with 1 mile on odometer.six days later left front wheel fell off vehicle while making a left turn.
The doors of this truck do not have a way to manually unlock them they lock automatically when the vehicle is put in gear if the battery is destroyed in a crash the occupants are trapped inside anyone coming to help would have to break a windowbut still could not open the doors to remove the occupants in the event of a fire i feel this is very unsafe

2nd occurrence of the following same problem....the heater and defroster systems in my new 2015 gmc canyon produce only cold air, regardless of the settings. This creates a fog film on the inside of the windshield making the canyon inoperable due to lack of visibility. The gmc dealer has already replaced several "heater/defroster", but the new system continues to fail. The lack of heat problem occurs at all times (i.e. Manual key start, remote start, cold engine start, warm engine start, etc.)
While being in a stationary position, my vehicle key will not come out of the ignition. If the key is inserted and immediately attempted to be removed, it will come out with no issues. However, if the key is inserted and the vehicle is driven, the key will be stuck in the accessory 'acc' position. The key will remain stuck for over 10-15 minutes until it can be removed from the ignition. (the longest wait time was 30 minutes)this issue has caused potential theft for our truck and threat to our own safety. It has also caused the vehicle battery to completely die, due to the keys being stuck in the acc position.

Several times in the past 2 years, my 2015 gmc canyon has stalled when either coming to a stop or trying to start from a stop.most times it shudders while stopping then the engine shuts down. 2 times i thought that i was safe from stall because it remained running after the shudder but when i stepped on the gas to go it stalled. The last time, about a week ago, it happened while trying to cross a busy intersection. Causing me to panic, throw it into neutral and start, with barely enough time to throw it into gear and get out of the way of oncoming traffic. It's scary and dangerous to both me and to other drivers.ive attempted to take it to the dealer but they won't do anything because there aren't any warning lights on.i did get a notice on this, took it back into the dealer and again was told without warning lights they won't do anything. So does someone actually have to die or be in a life changing accident for something to be done?
Oil coolant line that is not viewable has rusted out and oil is leaking from my car, almost causing engine damage.i did not receive an oil low warning until i was out of oil.no indications the oil was leaking and even with consistent oil changes it was unable to be seen until there was a problem. I am unsure how long this has been happening since it was a slow leak and i didn't get any alerts until all my oil was gone. My truck is 4 yrs old, i bought it used september 29,2015 with 1100 miles on it, i maintain my vehicle, it has 43000 miles and i get ziebart rust proofing yearly, that i bought through the dealer when i bought my car. This should not have happened.

The headlights on this truck are so dim that at night it is difficult to see the road you are driving on. Gmc needs to address the problem with a headlight replacement or major improvement.
