The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle slid on black ice and crashed into an embankment. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained back and abdomen injuries, which required medical attention. The passenger also sustained bruises to the face, eye socket, and broken rib injuries, which required medical attention. The contact and the passenger sustained concussions. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Air bag comes on display and stays on after starting vehicle

Hit 3 deer in high speed collision. My air bags didn't function. Then research online showed i have tikata airbags. Then i noticed my brakes if wet or have ice on rotors, when braking, i get terrible squeaking noise and front end will shimmy or vibrate. Rear brakes too. And my power steering started making noise, like a rubbing sound a few months after i bought truck, though no fluid loss or stiffness in steering. I know these air bags are dangerous, metal parts have killed a few people.why wasn't i notified by automaker about what airbags were installed in my truck!? i need fixed. I do a lot of mountain driving. I would like them to work properly. And these strange noises really bug me. I can't be breaking down deep into mountain roads when i work or travel. Much highway traveling too. The cruise control has never worked, since two weeks after buying truck. If coming up to hills when set, then as you drive up & down more hills, it will self excellerate! not slow down on declines. Very scary a couple of times.very dangerous! engine would jump into passing gear. I have the 5 cylinder 3.5 motor. Automatic, sle extended cab 4x4.should i go back to dealer to get fixed?

After getting my truck washed the airbag light came on and would not go out.i took the vehicle to gmc today, may 8, 2012, and they found a wire under the carpet in the rear passenger area broken.this vehicle has never been in an accident and very seldom has passengers in the rear seat area.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the air bag warning light continuously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was not available.

I got a safety bulletin from gmc #14609 stating that there is a problem with my air bag light,. It can go on due to wires in the rear door breaking, the air bag can go off also.this is a safety issue with the air bags, i have the problem with the air bag light on.they said they would fix it or reimburse me if i paid in the past to have it fixed.well they said i was off of warranty 1-15 . This is a safety issue, the dealer will not fix it for free. Why did they send me this bulletin with my vin number attached?i have had nothing but problems with this gmc truck, you name it it has had a problem. Mostly electrical system failure. The air bag issue should be fixed by gmc free of charge which they state in the letter, there telling me i am a few months past the 10 year dead line. That is a disgrace this is a safety issue and should be covered by gmc if it is a design problem like all the other problems i am having.they are getting away with this and the air bag can go off while driving and cause an accident. I am holding them liable for this problem.what can i do about this they are not helping me with this safety issue.thanks, tom

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the air bag light would illuminate upon starting the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,500. ....updated 12/03/12 the consumer stated the wiring harness in the vehicle failed to keep the air bag working due to normal use of the door. The wiring disconnected after opening and shutting the door over time. Updated 01/11/12

Air bag warning light on dashboard comes on intermittently.

I'm not sure if this is the correct complaint area, but this is my complaint.recently my airbag readiness light came on and continued to stay on. I took it to the dealer and they informed me that the cost would be 81.00 dollars just to look at it and then who knows what the end cost would be. This is a 2005 gmc canyon and i guess i believe gm should take care of this. I'm not sure if this is happening to others with this model, but i would like your take on this problem. Thank you for your time.also, there was nothing physical that occurred to the vehicle.

Dt:while the contact's wife was drivingat 35-40 mph thevehiclehit another vehicle.this was a front end collision.upon impact, the airbags did not deploy.the vehicle was towed to a body shop for insurance inspection.the insurance company deemed the vehicle totaled, but was unable to determine why the airbags did not deploy.the contact's wife sustainedinjuries.shehad bruises on right shoulder. A police report taken at the scene.

This vehicle uses a resistor for variable speeds (x4) on the ventilation blower.during continuous or frequent use (i.e. Defrost, air conditioning) a burning smell develops.the burning smell increases over time after repeated usage and the incremental blower speed circuits are burned out and disabled.the wires are blackened and connectors melted and the plastic connecting base of the resistor is melted and blackened.at times the vehicle wire harness is affected.gm has a "service bulletin" which prescribes a "repair" for this malfunction (i.e. New resistor, pigtail wires and connectors, and a blower replacement if required) ---- but it does not fix the problem and it occurs repeatedly throughout ownership of the vehicle.we had to replace the resistor and wires in this circuit at least 6 times in the last three years.our canyon began experiencing this problem at about 85,000 miles.each replacement (including labor and parts) costs about $150.i contacted gm last year -- they gave me a case number but wanted me to pay out of pocket by the hour for electrical troubleshooting.i also contacted corporate customer service last month when they were advertising new recalls based on service bulletins --- but they were not interested unless an open flame was present in the situation.we eventually bypassed this circuit by installing core wire, a one-way switch, and a fuse. At the very least, this is a distraction.at the worst -- defrost, heat, a/c, all functions involving the blower become disabled and the vehicle harness core wire can become damaged.

The heater/ac fan will only work on the highest setting.

The brake lights have stopped working, turn signals have stopped working, engine will not start, turnover, abs brake system malfunctions.

2005 gmc canyon- fire and cross circuits after having burn wire case smells, smoke, indication of airbag failure, fan motor and interior lights remained on after vehicle was shut down it was discovered that a main wire bundle that is subject to abrasion by components of the brake system at a location where the bundle goes through a hole in the fire wall.the vehicle operator may notice changes in the fan speed and other dash indication on left turns, bumps, etc. Before fire and smoke.it should be noted that the short and cross system power feed will not cause system safety fuses to blow. Operator may also notice that the keyless entry system will fail to work or the range will decrease greatly and the fan and interior lights with remain on after the vehicle is shut down and the door is closed. Note:this wire bundle is not properly protected from damage by the brake system parts.

Twice the resistor on the a/c heating fan blower switch has malfunctioned. It only works on 4 (lots of noise and strong breeze). It is not covered under warranty. The vehicle on has 37,000 miles on it. The problem is intermittent, although more not working than working by a margin of 80% to 20%.

Can no longer roll down the drivers or passangers windows. No longer have any control of the power locks from either door control or remote. Blower for air only works on high setting 1 2 and 3 work intermittently. The brakes will start to sound like they are pulsating and then the abs fault comes on the dash and the brake light lights up.

All the power in the driver's door stopped working - the window won't roll down, door lock/unlock button doesn't work, etc. It also prevents the door lock/unlock remote control from working. I've searched online for possible causes/solutions, and found numerous other owners with the same problem. It seems as though the canyon has a well-documented history of electrical issues.it's a shame my 16 year old daughter didn't know that before she spent all the money she saved up to buy one.

I have a 2005 gmc canyon that i purchased two years ago used with about 30k miles on it.it has 60k miles now and i noticed the brake lights are staying on.i googled and found that this truck is included in a regional recall for this model.i called gm and they told me the vin is not in the recall and i will have to pay for it.i am having the exact same problem to the letter that the recall addresses.nhtsa should look at making this recall a national recall and not a regional recall.

Over the past 5 years i have had to place my blower motor, blower motor's resistor, and the connectors for each of these parts to be able to fix my ac. I've searched the web, talked to mechanics, held discussions with various auto-parts employees, and even talked to several chevy/gmc dealerships, and found that each of them have all seen or herd about this problem many times in the past. This is something that shouldn't be tolerated and really needs to be recalled. The issues i have seen arise with this problem on my personal vehicle could very easily become a fire hazard because of this faulty electrical equipment. I would just like to go one year in this truck without having to worry about my ac's blower motor going out on me. Something really should be done about this. The gmc needs to take responsibility for the products that they put out. The problems for this issue first started around 50,000 miles and i have had the same issue reoccur every 10-15,000 miles ever since.

Abs fault comes on intermittently and gm is not responding to our concerns.

I replaced the fuel filter on my 2005 gmc canyon as part of regular maintenance.in order to perform the fuel filter replacement i disconnected the negative terminal of the battery.after maintenance, the battery was hooked up.vehicle now exhibits the following symptoms.1) drivers side window inoperable.2) power door locks inoperable from divers side master switch.3) vehicle does not automatically lock doors when shifted from p to r or d.4) keyless entry inoperable.this is not the first time this condition has presented itself after unhooking the battery.possible safety concern over inoperable window and door locks. This problem has been well documented on internet forums with no clear solution.see url links below: http://coloradofans.com/forums/67-technical-questions-tips-how/78523-door-locks-driver-window-failure.htmlhttp://www.355nation.net/forum/electrical-lighting-security/80882-drivers-window-power-locks.html http://www.355nation.net/forum/electrical-lighting-security/51161-drivers-power-window-power-door-locks-fixed.html.

My 2005 gmc canyon continues to have issues with the passlock ii system.no modifications have been made to the ignition switch, keys, or any other electrical system.the passlock prevents me from starting my truck because for some reason the computer thinks it is trying to be stolen.the last time this issue occured, my truck was parked in my garage.when attempted to start, the truck cranked but did not start and the passlock light came on.i had to sit and wait for 10 minutes until the light went off.the problem was i was trying to drive myself to the emergency room because i had just been bitten by a dog.

Air conditioning fan abruptly stopped working on all fan speeds except "4", the highest position.checked internet for possible solutions and found that there have been numerous failures exactly like mine.all involved the "blower motor resistor assembly, connector and/or wiring harness" shorting out.scortching the connectors, resistor assembly and causing the plastic to melt/burn. Gm parts at local dealership had replacement parts and i was able to resolve the problem.speaking a gm service advisor, he confirmed that there are numerous repair problems with these parts on the gmc canyon/ chevrolet colorado 2004-2007. But no explanation for why they are failing. Numerous internet reports with photo's showing damage and explaining problem most requiring multiple or repeated repairs.old parts are available.

I got a safety bulletin from gmc #14609 stating that there is a problem with my air bag light,. The abs fault light comes on and the abs system starts trying to over work.this in my opinion is a safety hazard. I have had this looked at and have been told it's a known issue, however no recall.second issue:hvac system has a known issue where it keeps over heating and the hvac harness has to be replaced, after being burned.this is also a safety issue.my vehicle is out of warranty now.im sure you have other folks reporting these issues...just look at the forums on the internet...

Air conditioning stopped working on fan positions 1,2, and 3 and works only on 4. Eight pages of complaints indicated that faulty components were put into truck at factory and should be recalled: blower motor resistor, wiring harnessand poor ground wire. Ac delco part 15-80521 one part requiring replacement.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. After restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 205,000.

The first problem was the ac/heat blower motor would only work on high, had the same switch replaced multiple times. Dealer ship after 4 tries was able to get it working. Then with abs/traction control lights on dashboardstarted displaying, took to have repaired they were unable to locate issue.about a week later my car radio would randomly come on after keys were remove from ignition, then also would come on when i would open truck doors.the seatbelt warning bells chime when keys are not in the ignition will stop when the keys are put into the ignition. Also occasional other random warning lights and chimes will ring.

The plug that controls the hvac has shorted out causing burn marks in the inside of the connector.this causes the blower to only work on the highest setting (number 4).i had to replace the resistor - p/n 15218254, connector - p/n 15306069, and the wiring harness - p/n 89019124.i am not sure how many times this has been reported, but it might not be a bad idea to check out coloradofans.com. There has been complaints spanning back to 2005 up to today about this.

I recently received a recall notice for a 2006 gmc convoy that i owned for a possible defective door module that may cause a short that would cause smoke or a fire.i am having the same problem with my 2005 gmc canyon pick up. This summer(2014) my driver power window and power locks stopped working. After a couple of days before i could get an appointment to get them fixed, they started working properly. On 21 nov 14, the issue recurred, my driver power window, and power locks stopped working again.i received a letter from gm stating the identical problem for a 2006 gmc envoy that i used to own. Is this a coincidence or the same problem?

The resistor in the fan kept burning out and had been replaced. Finally it was determined that the wiring harness was malfunctioning and required replacement. I believe this is a known defect, yet nothing was done by gm.

This truck was listed in a recall under a tsb #07123a. This no charge recall was to replace cylinder heads that were manufactured with defective intake valve seats. The "special coverage" extended the repair for 7 years/100,0000. I have owned the truck for 5 years and did not receive any notification of this problem. My father bought the vehicle new and i inherited it on his passing in 2009. I have 52,000 miles on the otherwise pristine truck. I am told it doesn't matter that it was a clear manufacturers defect or that i was not notified as the extension expired in 2013. The repair is $3500. I think that a recall to replace a defective engine part as substantial as the cylinder head should be considered non expirable particularly with such a low mileage engine. I bought a 2004 new and put 167,000 miles on it before selling it and i did not receive a letter on this recall. My son also bought a new 2004 and currently has 190,000 miles on it and he did not receive a letter on the engine. My dad bought this 2005 new before passing in 2009 and as far as i know he did not receive a letter. I did not get any letter about the engine during my ownership. I believe a great many engines were affected as the indicated by the extended coverage. However, not telling all of the owners of vehicles involved should not become my extreme financial burden. I don't think gmc should be able to thumb their nose at me for missing an arbitrary cut off date, for a warranty recall i had no knowledge of and be forced to bear the entire burden or repair costs. They knew then and know now that these heads were defective.

My truck is exhibiting an issue in which the gm passlock system disables the fuel and engine because of some malfunction.this system is intended to disable the fuel system on a vehicle if it detects that the ignition has been tampered with or in improper key has been used to try and start the vehicle.my issue is that intermittently when i try to start my truck with the factory key, the passlock system engages and does not allow me to start my truck.i have to wait 10 minutes in order for the passlock system light to turn off on the dashboard. Sometimes my truck will start after this 10 minute lockout period.it has happened before where my truck will fail to start after the first lockout period and i have to wait another 10 minutes.once the passlock system allows me to start the engine, my truck runs fine with no issues. In my opinion, this is a serious safety concern.in any emergency situation, i would hope to depend on my truck starting.this malfunctioning passlock system prevents me from starting my truck.my greatest issue with this situation is that my truck is not the only one that is affected by this. A quick google search of "gmc canyon passlock" will show pages upon pages of forums of other truck owners with the same problem. I live in an area of the country with a high risk of forest fires.i know friends who have been evacuated from their homes in the past.i honestly believe that this malfunction of my truck could greatly impact my ability to evacuate in case of an emergency.

Check engine light comes on intermittently indicating misfire when idling;car is shaking and rattlingthere's a special coverage letter #07123a but gmc does not cover intake leakage issue once vehicle is passed 7 yrs or 100k miles, even though they are aware of the problem since 2007. If you are not the original owner, there is no way to be notified or contacted. My dealer never made me aware of the issue after purchasing the truck. Now i'm passed the extended warranty and am supposed to cover the full costs. This is customer fraud since its a manufacturing problem related to the engine - all 2004-06 gmc canyons are affected by this. This needs a recall - not extended warranty!

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact also stated that the vehicle would restart itself without having to turn the key. The failures occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000.

Abs light comes on with no apparent reason, also traction fault also comes on from time to time affecting gas mileage.there is also a misfire problem.

Dt*: the contact stated the engine stalled out while attempting to turn or in stop and go traffic at no particular speed.although the engine stalled out, the vehicle was easily restarted.the vehicle was seen by a dealer.the head, exhaust, and intake valves were replaced by the dealer in an attempt to repair the vehicle, but the stalling continued to worsen.

Check engine light came on truck became ruff idling and shaking and powering itself off.

I have a 2005 gmc canyon with 44k miles on it. I have had to replace the cam shaft sensors and cam shaft solenoid so far, and today after only 150 miles after replacement of the solenoid i again have to have it replaced.gmc stocks this part which my mechanic tells me that means that they know that they are having problems with it.i took it to carl edwards chevy but they were so rude that i left and took it back to my mechanic to repair.it has gone from 27 mpg to 16 mpg and i can smell gasoline.my mechanic informed me that it is pushing too much gas into the intakes and that it could cause a fire.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated that she saw smoke coming from the vents of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that too strong of an electrical current was flowing into the engine. As a result, the contact was advised to replace the motor. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was repaired by an independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 123,000 and the current mileage was 124,000.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon.the contact stated that the engine would idle very roughly and he could feel hard vibrations.he received a notice from the manufacturer, which stated that they would extend his warranty due to the malfunction.however, once the warranty expired, the failure recurred.the dealer could not determine the cause of the failure and make additional repairs.the failure mileage was less than 1,000 and current mileage was 21,000.

I was driving at the time of failure.engine light comes on and i took it to the shop to run a diagnostics. These are the codes p0106, p0300 and p0506 that are causing the engine light to keep coming on. This is the second time this has happen. First time the parts replaced were oxygen sensor and the computer back in dec 2005. Now its feb 2006 and i need to take it in again for same problem.

Earlier i complained that i had to replace the cam shaft solenoid for the second time, i was mistaken in that complaint, now i am told that it could be an actuator, cam shaft problem or some other related problem.getting the same error codes as last 2 times in the shop p014 p017 and p300.engine is till sputtering and dying, pushing too much fuel.

Recently purchased used 2005 gmc canyon, two days after purchase check engine light came on and stayed, the truck did not run rough or make noises. Took directly back to dealership, it was determined the oxygen sensor was bad. Replaced. Five days later the same thing happened...diagnostics determined catalytic converter, oxygen sensor and exhaust intake were all related. All repairs now complete and appear to be no other issues after driving the vehicle 3 days.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 50 mph on a highway on-ramp, the vehicle stalled completely.the vehicle was able to be restarted after 20 minutes.a service dealer was contacted, who stated that the vehicle would have had to have been brought in before it was restarted in order to diagnose the problem.subsequently, the vehicle was not taken in for service.updated 12/5/2006 -

#3 cylinder lost compression and head warped.this happened march 13. Gm issued a tsb on march 10 for this problem.

This is regarding continued issues with nhtsa campaign id 06v139000and nhtsa action number: pe05065 and the faulty brake lamp switch on this vehicle.the brake lamp switch originally failed around 2005 and was replaced under warranty.it failed again around 2006 and was replaced via recall.this switch failed a 3rd time in october of 2008 and the dealer would not fix under warranty as they claimed it had already been done so i paid out of pocket for the repair.this same brake switch lamp failed again on 05/26/2009 after less than 8 months and fewer than 8,000 miles, again leaving me without functioning brake lights.i will return to the dealer to have it replaced again, but that is not an acceptable outcome.it has become painfully obvious that gm has failed to fulfill its obligation to fix this dangerous situation in that it not only leaves me without functioning brake lights making it very difficult for other drivers to know that i am stopping, but there is no warning that this failure has occurred!i risk my life every time i get behind the wheel of this vehicle because the engineers at gm seem incapable of perfecting a $5 switch that is part of an automotive technology that has been in existence for nearly 100 years (brake lights).general motors may have conducted a recall, but they have not fixed the problem.after getting the lamp switch replaced for the 4th time i will request the faulty part and will gladly supply it to the nhtsa if requested.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the cruise control failed to operate upon activation. In addition, the brake light lamp was inoperable. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 06v139000 (exterior lighting) however, the contac's vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

On 6/17/20 as i was traveling under the alabaster, alabama over pass on highway 65 north an orange construction barrel was blown into the road by a truck a head of me. I swerved in the attempt to miss it. The barrel clipped the passenger side bumper and tore out my fog lamp. Thankfully no accident occurred. Would like my fog lamp replaced and barrels not in use picked up off of the highways. Thank you in advance.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon.in 2007, the brake lights were not working and the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for repair.the contact assumed that the repair was made under the warranty and was not informed of a recall at that time.on december 16 2008, the contact realized that the brake lights failed again after someone almost rear ended her vehicle.she returned to the dealer and was informed that the previous repair was performed according to nhtsa campaign id number 06v139000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch).the dealer stated that the diagnostic would cost $98, plus parts and labor to repair the failure again.the failure mileage was 85,000.

Apparently a continuing problem with defective brake light switches on my 2005 gmc canyon. Brake lights cease to work as does the cruise control. I am complaining against gm, and d&j automotive in louisburg n.c.this is the third time that the switch will be replaced.the first time was under warranty, the second under recall, and as of now, there is no guarantee that i will not have to pay for it this time.unacceptable!!!!!!!!

My brake lights were malfunctioning. The brake light switch had to be replaced.

Brake light switch failed on my 2005 canyon (brake lights would not shut off). Complained to dealer when it was taken in for inspection a few days later.they "adjusted" switch passed the truck in inspection.a week later problem occurred again.was never notified of a recall.had to find that out in personal research.had to buy the part myself since no one would acknowledge the recall and did not have parts.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was parked over night the brake light remained illuminated.the next day the battery was jump started before the vehicle started.during inspection the dealership determined the driver side rear brake light lens was melted however, the brake light switch continued to function.there is a nhtsa recall, # 06v139000, regarding the brake light switch.the vin was not included in the recall.

Brake light/cruise control switch failure. Second time in 30,000 miles replace switch each time.

Rear view mirror sight line is severely restricted to a small centered tunnel like area.the consumer stated, when the rear bench is folded down, the head rest makes contact with the drivers seat, which does not create a flat platform as designed. Moving the front seat forward to accommodate the rear folding seat, comprises the drivers position by making it extremely uncomfortable and cramped.consequently, the feature doesn't work.there was nothing in the manual stating there was an option to remove the head rests.the consumer was not getting the correct mpg.at night, when the clock and radio dash lights are on, the blue/green horizontal display light reflect to the rear window. The image is then reflected into the rear view mirror as a vertical blue/green line.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was a fuel odor coming from the vehicles blower vents. The contact stated that after driving the vehicle 30 to 35 minutes, the odor would dissipate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

The "2005 gmc canyon" pick-up and similar vehicles made by this manufacturer lack keyed access locks on the passenger-side doors. In the event of an emergency, because there is no practical way to readily access the vehicle from the passenger-side, there is the potential that the vehicle owner or passengers would be exposed to undue harm. It is taken for granted by most consumers that vehicles come with keyed access on the passenger-side, but nowhere in the manufacturers literature does it mention that there are no outside locks on the passenger-side of these vehicles. If a consumer were to purchase the vehicle with power locks, this wouldn't be an issue, unless there was a power failure to the vehicle, but vehicles sold that do not come with the power door lock feature, do not come with outside door locks on the passenger-side of the vehicle. I feel that the manufacturer should retrofit these vehicles with outside door locks.

-the contact stated that he has a safety recall on the breaks of his 2005 gmc canyon (no. 06030).the contact stated that on many occasions his brakes have locked up on him when backing up.the contact stated that the high humidity in texas where he resides 6 months out of the year is what causes his brakes to lock up.the contact stated that the brakes usually lock in the evenings when it is very humid, and are still in that locked position the following morning.the contact also stated that the brakes squeak and squeal.the dealership looked at his car and said that there is nothing wrong with it, so the contact has not had any repairs.

Rear brake shoes bad at 45,000. Replaced drums and shoes. New drums warped after 2 months and 2,000 miles. Replaced drums and shoes again, squeaks very loud, drums bad again. Replaced drums with gmc drums, brakes bad again after 1 month. Took to an independent mechanic after dealer would not fix issue. Independant replaced left rear hydraulic and new shoes. Stated the emergency brake must be defective. Brakes are now squeaking again after 1 month. Also slight locking up when backing up after rain, cold, moist weather.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon.while driving 30 mph on a wet road, the wheels spun and caused the vehicle to tailspin.the contact crashed into a tree and damaged the rear end of the vehicle.he took the vehicle to a body shop and they repaired the rear end of the vehicle.there were no other repairs done to the vehicle.at the time of purchase, the contact asked if the vehicle had post-traction.the dealer stated that it did; however, the contact later discovered that the vehicle did not have post-traction.whenever he drives the vehicle in the rain, he has to drive approximately 20 mph to avoid tail spinning.the current mileage was 38,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.updated 10/16/08 updated 10/21/08.

Within 1 week of purchasing the vehicle in 4/05 the transmission would bang into 2nd gear.it didn't matter if you took off slowly of accelerated quickly.took to the dealership, they did a computer diagnostic test and found no problems.the vehicle continues to do this.

Dt*:the contact stated while the outside conditions were freezing the linkage for the transmission froze as well.this resulted in the inability to change gears until the ice melts.the contact stated by the time the vehicle would arrive at the dealership, the ice would melt.therefore, the vehicle has not been seen by the dealership.

I have a 2005 gmc canyon 4wd ccp/u . This p/u was purchased new in may 2005. The window sticker clearly lists an auto locking differential under standard equipment. In november 2005 gmc sent a letter to me which stated that this vehicle does not have a auto locking differential. As of this date (2-2-06) gmc admits that the window sticker is wrong, but other options were added to make up the difference. I don't know how this could have been done. Gmc also is not willing to do anything to correct this mistake made by them.

While driving approximately 40 mph, the front wheels inadvertently locked. This caused the vehicle to spin.the pan on the front diffrential hangs down 1/8 inch and the diffrential oil leaks out.*eh

9/21/05 went to start vehicle and the ignition stayed engaged.had to turn vehicle off and restart.have not taken to the dealership yet.

2005 gmc canyon driver side seat belt buckle does not stay latched.jerking on the seat belt will unlatch the seat belt.

Drivers side seat heat switch stays latched on the "on" position every time i get out of the truck.

Installed new brake lights did you brake switch under the brake pedal still showing signs of no brake lights on my vehicle i'll brake balls have been replace.

Abs failure.3 months after mfg warranty expired the abs failure light came on.abs system activates randomly even when not braking, buzzed, abs and brake lights on, then abs failure displayed.stayed on until it randomly turned off by itself.daily repeating of problem.codes said abs sensor failure.had it replaced, no resolution.problem kept happening.had entire front hub assembly replaced with new abs sensor installed at factory, still same problem.had wiring checked, all ok.persistent problem for years.gave up on gm ever fixing it.apparently on gm canyon/colorado forums this is a major persistent dangerous problem.most users opt to disable the abs system because gm cannot provide a solution.sounds like another of gm's brilliant engineers design failures.shocked no one has been killed yet.all these vehicles on the road with failing or disabled abs systems and gm hasn't a clue.

Brake light went out. Brake switch was serviced 2 years ago under a recall for the exact same problem. Gm will not replace the part unless i pay for a new one. How can a new part have the same exact problem as in the recall. The cruise control will not work.

Abs light comes on with no apparent reason, also traction fault also comes on from time to time affecting gas mileage.there is also a misfire problem.

The brake lights have stopped working, turn signals have stopped working, engine will not start, turnover, abs brake system malfunctions.

The brake lines and the entire frame is rusted out.there are big wholes in the frame. The garage wouldn't even put it on the lift, because it was so bad. Have replaced breaks and still the truck has break issues

When baking up the abs fault code came on was going 5 mph or less.turned the truck off and the code went away. It has done this a total of three times all while backing the truck up at a very low speed, other issues i am having the air conditioning will only work on high and sometimes the other speeds will work.the rear passenger window will not roll down.i am the original owner of this truck and have never received any recalls on any of these items and the braking system is a safety concern.

Abs sensor fault appears and continues to stay on.when light turns off terrible noise and vibration occurs when braking.i am concerned for the safety of my 3 year old and myself as the brakes do no react as they should.i have taken it and had the brakes replaced, the sensors replaced and the problem continues.after 3 different times in the shop, i am so worried that i am going to cause an accident with my truck. I have searched and there are hundreds of complaints with the same problem on http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/[email protected]@.f1fb9ba/33#msg33please copy this link and check out all of the complaints about the same problem. Someone is going to get really hurt if this is not taken care of.

2005 gmc canyon, 4wd.brakes lock up after sitting for a short period of time or when wet.abs does activate, hear the noise, rear brakes lock.went to some of the forums for these vehicles, find out it is common.took vehicle back to dealer (bought it used as certified gm) as the parking brake stuck only a week after i had the vehicle.they replaced the cable, told me i was set.i took the truck home, brakes were very "touchy"brought it back to the dealer a few weeks later (thought maybe it was me) and they charged me $100.00 and said they adjusted the rear brakes, not under the warranty.i called them and had a blow out argument with the service manager to no avail as the brakes were still touchy.i have been living with them until today, when in the rain i had to make a panic stop on the highway.the brakes momentarily locked at 65 mph, truck stayed straight and i was able to let off fast enough.luckily the guy behind me was not following too close, or he would have been under me.situation is getting worse, i have been driving for 35+ years and never had a vehicle like this.

Abs fault comes on intermittently and gm is not responding to our concerns.

When i try to stop the vehicle after going between 5-10 mph, the abs system "activates" and makes a "grinding sound". It will do this after 3-4 stops and then the abs fault light will come on and the problem stops. If i start the truck and drive faster (15 mph or faster ) then brake, it doesn't do it at the higher speeds.

I own a 2005 gmc canyon. Three weeks out of warranty the abs systembegan to malfunction. The abs would kick in for no reason. Because it was according to gmout opf the guaranteeperiod there was nothing they could do for me. My private garage told methat this was a common problem with the canyon and used a work around to solve the problem by disabling the abs system because of the high cost of replacing the sensors witch would probably be damaged again when replacing the brake pads.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon.while drivingapproximately 10 mph pressure was applied to the brake pedal and the pedal began to severely pulsate.it took an increased distance in order to stop the vehicle.an abs fault light illuminated on the dashboard.the failure has since recurred intermittently.the vehicle was not taken to be examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired.the failure mileage was 24,994 and the current mileage was 25,010. Updated 11/22/10updated 11/23/10

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon.while driving approximately 10 mph in normal conditions, the contact heard an excessively loud grinding noise when the brake pedal was depressed.the vehicle inadequately slowed down.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and they stated that the rotors were defective.the vehicle was repaired.the failure mileage was 32,660 and current mileage was 32,680. First:hearing impaired driver...premature rear brake lining failure leading to major damage to drums and hydraulic system...second time in less than 53,000 miles on vehicle..resulting in repairs totaling approximately.$2276.00...this premature failure of system resulted from moderate vehicle usage and driving habits, non-abuse of vehicle...a normal driven vehicle life of rear brake linings and associated systems should last 60,000 plus mileson this model 2005 gmc canyon pick-up. The repairing facility could offer no reason or visible reason of this type of failure...the foremost reason that comes to mind is emergency brake being depress and or "riding" the brakes but both of these have been eliminated...so cause is unknown..the first failure occurred on or about 08/22/05, mileage 23,403 and the second occurred on or about 07/17/06, mileage approximately 53,000 miles...

Nearly total frame failure due to poor steel and extreme rust and corrosion of entire frame. With this model year of gmc and chevrolet trucks, there are a lot of reports of frame failures. My particular truck is so badly rusted that the cab and body could possibly separate due to frame failure. This vehicle has not been driven much during the winters and has been garaged most of its life. These frames shouldn't be this bad on a 15 year old vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. While the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for new tires, the technician noticed that the bottom of the frame was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Body frame has rot holes throughout undercarriage. New frame needed.while driving,i went over a speed bump and heard a loud boom from underneath the truck.upon investigating, it was determined that the driveshaft broke off n was lying on the axel.aaa was called and immediately towed the truch 1 mile to our mechanic.after a thorough inspection,it was determined that a new driveshaft was needed and upon further inspection, the mechanic spotted numerous pitting rusted holes throughout the frame.determined that said truck was a total loss.

The left rearframe rail just in front of the left rear front spring shackle has rusted through and is no longer safe to drive the vehicle. There are holes through the lower portion of the frame rail. The sides of the same area have become very thin compared to the original thickness of the frame rail. Because of the location of the rust through at the spring shackle it was recommended a frame repair should not be completed. The truck was disposed of and taken off road. The remainder of the vehicle is ingood condition. Mileage 75,124 miles. The frame rail is formed into a box frame with the seam located at the bottom of the rail. The rust appears to be worst on the seam. The seam is a lap seam and appears to trap water in the lap seam. The right side frame rail is thin however is not rusted through at this time.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an oil change and was informed that the frame was rusted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated that while changing the oil at the residence, the contact became aware that the subframe was severely rusted. The contact stated that the rear leaf springs were also severely rusted. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic. While attempting to raise the vehicle on the lift, the frame started to collapse. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage 13,000.

I took my truck to a local shop to have the fuel system looked at after i started smelling fuel. The service manager calls me that evening and request i look at the truck while it is on the lift so i can see the frame for myself as the fuel system would be the least of my concerns once i saw the frame. The rear of the frame from the rear spring hanger back is rotted away on a 12-year-old truck that has no body rust and some rust on the other parts of the frame as to be expected for the age. I have attached pictures of the spring hanger detached from the frame due to the lack of structural support and pictures of the bad frame section and the rest of the frame along with a picture of the truck. I have owned the truck since it was new and taken care of it and am troubled that a structural item such as a frame only in one section, the same section, on both sides is in such bad shape that the mechanic recommended that i replace the frame. I know i live in an area that receives snow and the roads are salted but cleaned my truck frequently to wash the salt off of it but a truck with 112,500 miles that is 12 years old should not have a structural failure while all other parts including thin sheet metal are still in great shape and have not been painted. The only repainted items on the truck are the hood (aftermarket) and tailgate. So why does this truck have a rotted structural component?

On 6/17/20 as i was traveling under the alabaster, alabama over pass on highway 65 north an orange construction barrel was blown into the road by a truck a head of me. I swerved in the attempt to miss it. The barrel clipped the passenger side bumper and tore out my fog lamp. Thankfully no accident occurred. Would like my fog lamp replaced and barrels not in use picked up off of the highways. Thank you in advance.

Consumer complaint regarding the exterior passenger door manual key entry lock.the vehicle is not equipped with an exterior manual key entry lock on the passenger side door.

My 2005 gmc canyon started having a groaning noise when turning sharply either way from a start or moving.i took it to the dealer who kept it and called to tell me it was defective body bolts, for which there was a bulletin.the parts had to be ordered directly from gmc.there it sits a week later, and i am without a vehicle, and i am very unhappy.gmc needs to overnight parts.

The vehicle pulled to the right, and it was an half to one inch to the right.when i turning the truck it seemedsomething was sliding in the rear of the truck.took the truck to dealer for repairs, and the dealer was closed.the next day the truck was totaled in an accident. While driving 45 to 50 mph, the car in front slammed on the brakes at a red light.also, consumerslammed on the brakes, but the truck brakes locked, and the truck slid to the right.spoke to the insurance company, and the truck was towed to the dealer , and they were investigating.there were no injuries.s a police report was filed.

Frame cracked in front of rear spring shackles on both sides. Heard noise bed rubbing against cab. Vehicle was in motion at the time of the noise. Found broken frame when i got home.

The whole leaf spring shackle went thru the frame of the truck. After looking at how to replace this noticed pretty much the whole thing is rusted out and will need to be replaced to make it safe to be on the road again. This should be a recall on the truck for safety reasons

Owned the vehicle from new, frame started rusting at every weldment from day one. Tried to treat the frame yearly with door grease to stop corrosion. No success, now frame is rotted and in danger of collapse.

My air conditioning suddenly stopped working except for on 4 (the highest speed) dealership told me it was the"blower motor resistor assembly, they repaired it and within 10 days the same problem occurred.they had to keep my truck overnight each time so they could order the part. I had to pay $200 to get this repair done.

Driver side sun visor failure.visor loosens and drops to cover visual field in front of driver; visor falls off while vehicle in operation creating hazard by landing on steering wheel, arm, face of driver.i have owned 3 gm vehicles with the same part that fails in the same way.present vehicle:part was replaced and the new visor failed in the same way.gm refuses to acknowledge this as a repeat problem of the same part, but it is.i am original owner on 2 and second owner on the third of these vehicles.i have not gone in yet and have the part; this is a safety issue and needs to be addressed.gm isn't addressing it.present vehicle:2005 gmc canyon; prior were gmc safari and pontiac grand am.all three had the same visor design and points of failure.all failures occurred while driving and created safety hazard without causing accidents, though high potential for it.

The contact owns a 2005 gmc canyon. The contact stated the windshield wipers stopped working. The failure occurredintermittently; however, the wipers have failed completely. The vehicle was not inspected. The failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 91,000.

The contact owns a 2005 toyota sierra.the contact stated that the air conditioner and heater would only worked when the setting was on high.the dealer diagnosed that the blower motor resister was defective. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist the contact with the failure.the failure mileage was 20,000.

The consumer indicated that the windshield glass is too fragile and cracks very easily from outside forces. Exp (cinder). It has cracked twice within a month.
