Was driving down a dirt road and suddenly the airbags deployed for no reason. Ruined the car.

I have numerous warnings, shift to park, steering, cross traffic, this endangers myself and anyone else around me, i have read several class action suits involving these problems and it could cause my vehicle to pose a danger, i have taken my vehicle in to a certified dealer and they state there is no known recalls associated with my vehicle which is strange because gmc knows that there are thousands of vehicles having the same problem, did i buy a lemon? these problems are clearly manufacture related and in no way normal wear and tare. I should not have to compensate these issues when i paidnear 40,000 for it

I place vehicle in park and the computer does not recognize so the bell comes on.i have to go in and out of park several times before it engages.this occurs when i am turning the engine off, i first place in park then push the ignition to shut off.we had a prior issue where the emergency brake was on, auto backed in a driveway with slight incline, and when we tried to disengage it was simply stuck, we called to tow the care; once driver arrived we went through the release one more time and it finally released.since that time, i never use the parking brake.that occurred approximately 9/20/2018..

When parking car it keeps telling us to park when it is in park and we can turn it off

When i put my car in park and turn off it will randomly say "shift to park" it started doing this in aug or sept 2019 the car was under warranty and i brought it to a dealer to "fix". Fast forward april 2021 it started to say shift to park again and car is no longer under warranty. Called different dealers even the one i brought the car to fix problem (that was a joke), they know its a problem and saying since that part got fixed in 2019 with a bad part and now there is a a newer fix that should work better, but i will have to pay for diagnostic test and part again. Again they know it is a problem with these cars and it needs to be recalled. I have to turn the car off and on reshift, push the shifter harder, etc to get the message to go away so i can turn my car off.

Warning message says "shift to park".message does not go off until you turn car on and off several times; putting the car in reverse, then drive; then shifting between gears back and forth.may take 20 minutes to get the message light to go off.gmc has tried replacing gear shift, part of gear top.after 5 attempts in trying to fix the issue, my car sits at the dealership for an additonal 4 weeks waiting for a harness fix (which there is no part for).the car always rolls backwards when the message finally goes off.this is a major safety issue.is the car really in park?

Shift to park when i attempt to turn off the vehicle. Won't go off and can't turn the vehicle off

My car keeps giving notice of it not being in park, when its clearly shifted into park. It wont shut down, let you lock doors. Just beeps until it finally realizes its in park. Even after continuously re shifting into park. Worse in the summer months. It needs to be fixed as many others are having the same issue!

When i try to turn off my vehicle, my dash displays the message 'shift to park' even though i'm already in park. I have to jiggle the shifter nob back and forth to get it to recognize it is in park.it's happened about 80% of the time i try to turn my car off for the last couple of weeks.

1 out of 2 times a day when i put the vehicle in park it gives me a warning to shift to park on the electronic dash. Even though the shift is sitting in the park position. So i have to restart the car, take it out of park and shift back to park multiple times before the warning goes away. This warning prevents the car from completely shutting down

Auto does not recognize that transmission is in park.

Every time i park and try to shut car off the car refuses to turn off and gives a message that says shift to park. Requires 20+ attempts of restarting, shifting out of park and back into it before succeeding. Car is clearly in park, not rolling but i'm unable to turn off car fully. This has been occurring the last month or two. I bought the car brand new.

On separate occasions, both parked turned off and running down highway, the dash lights lit up and alarms chimed. Car wouldn't start, no cold a/c. The "service power steering" message displayed. Car didn't turn as well. Couldn't shift. After doing so for a about 2-3 minutes it would go back to normal. The attached photo was while driving down the road you'll notice it doesn't measure any rpm's however the car is moving about 40mph

When putting my vehicle in park and pressing the engine off button, i get an error message "shift to park", and the vehicle beeps and will not turn off the electrical, but the car is already in park. I am unable to turn off my vehicle completely. I have to press start again and put the car in reverse and back to park, sometimes multiple times in order for the vehicle to register that is in park and allow me to shut off my vehicle completely. I am concerned that the vehicle may not actually be in park when i put it in park. I do not want it to roll down a hill and i want to be able to turn off my car without being concerned it will continue to run electrical and kill my battery.

The vehicle will not always go into park. In order to get it into park you have to repeatedly shift out of park and back into park until it will go into park. If it is not in park the vehicle will not lock and will not power down. Since it will not go into park if the vehicle was on a hill and it did not go into park then it would have the chance to roll down the hill. I have not attempted to see if it will roll down the hill nor am i going to try but seeing how it shows on the instrument cluster that the vehicle is in neutral i'm sure it will roll if given the chance. When shutting off the vehicle after you have put the vehicle in park on the gear selector a message comes up on the screen that says shift to park it has taken up to 20 tries of shifting the vehicle in and out of park until park will engage. As you can see in the picture all gauges are at their lowest point showing no power to the vehicle and the shift indicator is in the neutral position with the message on the display reading shift to park.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. The contact stated that while attempting to turn the vehicle off with the start/off button, the vehicle contact was alerted in the message center of the vehicle to place the vehicle in the park. The contact stated the gear shift lever was already in the park position when the message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to hertrich buick gmc located at 26953 sussex hwy, seaford, de 19973, 302-629-9144 to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the ignition needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000. The vin was not available.

"shift to park" message reads on dash, when the car is in park and then it wont let you turn the car off. I have spend over 20 minutes trying to get it to "read" that the car is in park. I even took it into gmc to "fix" the problem. They "fixed" it but now it is happening again.

Vehicle engine was running when i came to a stop and shifted to park.i received an error indicating "action required - shift to park."i did not let off of the brake pedal because i was unsure if the vehicle had actually shifted into park.with the brake pedal applied, i attempted to shift to neutral and drive, then shift back to park, and received the same error.with my foot still on the brake, i turned the ignition off, but the electronics would not power off and the error continuously displayed on the dash.i started the engine and repeated this process multiple times with the brake pressed before changing gears again, shifting into park, then applying the electronic parking brake with the engine running.it was only then that i turned my engine off again, and the error finally no longer displayed.since the error was no longer displaying, i could only hope that my vehicle was actually in park, but felt reassured that the electronic parking brake was engaged.please investigate this safety concern that seems to be affecting many of these vehicles.

My 2018 acadia keeps giving error message "shift to park" , it has drained my battery twice i had to get new one.in order to shut off error, i have to restart ignition and move shifter to drive or reverse several times before error message to shut off. At times the vehicle still thinks it is on and then drains battery. I brought it in on september 2019 and the dealership replaced the harness however it has started again. My warranty is about to expire. If this happens again i will need to pay out of pocket. I have not received any recall notifications from gmc. This is very frustrating and it is a safety hazard as we don'tknow if car is on park.

2018 gmc acadia vin [xxx] my car has 41,000 miles. When i park and try to shut my car off a message pops up that says "shift to park". It will not allow me to shut my car off because it does not identify that it is in fact in park. Today it took me 15 minutes of turning my car off and on and shifting in and out of park to get it off. Two days ago my car started to roll backwards as if it were in neutral. This is a serious safety hazard and needs to be recalled!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I purchased the wireless charger. I received the gm document stating what version of phone i needed for the charger to work.i purchased a phone and the charger does not work.the dealer researched the phone and there are only specific models manufactured in the sameyear that work for the charger. I have tested with 5 different model phones and only one worked.this option is a waste of money and not advertised appropriately nor does the gm brochures or website provide adequate information to notify the consumer of the issue.

I am getting a error message "shift to park" even when the vehicle is clearly in park.it drains the battery because you can't shut off the vehicle with the message.have to jiggle the shifter after several attempts it may clear the message.had one time i got out with the error message and the vehicle began to roll with no one in it even though the shifting area said "p" for park.and sitting in my garage with car running could not get the shifter to move to reverse, drive, anything, had to shut it off 3 times before it would register.have had the wiring harness already replaced.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in a stand still and turning off the vehicle, the vehicle would start to bing, lights would stay on, and doors would not lock. The shift to park message displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to get repaired where the manual transmission mode switch was replaced, however the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (chesrown chevrolet buick gmc located at 1701 columbus pike, delaware, oh 43015) where it was diagnosed that the shiftier assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had been informed of failure, however no assistance was offer. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000. *dtthe consumer stated the vehicle display "shift into park" error. When placing it in park. The vehicle's headlights and interior lights remained illuminated, as well as the radio. Also, the doors would not lock. The consumer stated the section of the shifter that bolts into the floor needed to be replaced.*the vehicle was repaired. Js

Vehicle does not recognize when it is in park. At times vehicle will not go into park and makes me concerned for my family's safety. My understanding is that gm is aware of this issue.

Vehicle will not acknowledge that it is in park.forces electrical to stay on, and sometimes will not engage park so vehicle can move as if i'm neutral.has thus far happened with vehicle stopped, but you can sometimes shut off engine and exit vehicle when it is not in park and can roll against you, or on kids exiting etc.vehicle rolled in garage and struck, and could have crushed child against door.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. When the vehicle was turned off, the instrument panel remained illuminated and "put the vehicle in park" was displayed. As a result, the battery died. The contact called reno buick gmc cadillac at 775-333-0000 (located at 900 kietzke ln, reno, nv 89502) and scheduled a diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The contact was referred to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

When shutting the acadia off it prompts a message saying must be in park. It is in park but computer is not recognizing it.this forces you to leave car running. If you dont then your battery will go dead. When speaking to local dealership they are aware of issue but dont know anything to resolve it. Customers shouldn't have to pay for this since it's a safety issue.

We have an issue with the gear shift, since three weeks ago we can't turn off the engine as a normal procedure because the sensor of the gear shift doesn't detect the shift is in 'p' parking, we continually receive a message from the screen. 'put your shift in 'p', but in this precise moment the shift was in parking mode, so we can't turn of the engine.we receive a notification from the mechanical workshop that the issue could be the electrical harness, but they doesn't give us when could be changed, so right now we have more than two weeks without use the vehicle, they do not receive a official feedback for the plant yet.

Multiple occasions when driving vehicle, then attempting to shift from drive to park and actually in park an error comes on 'shift to park' comes on, i've taken it to dealership and they blame me on some light bulbs i changed, well i changed them back and still error occurs. Unfortunately when that happens i can't lock my vehicle for some time until multiple times of turning on and off the vehicle. (2) while driving forward, my rear camera would be displaying live everything behind me, which was very distracting, took it to the dealership, i think they fixed it

"shift to park" issue.when our 2018 gmc acadia is placed in park, the dic displays that the vehicle is not in park when it is indeed in park.never sure if transmission is truly in the park position and cannot roll, but there is no confirmation of this.this indication failure prevents us from leaving the vehicle for a substantial amount of time until we (if ever) see the proper "park" indication.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, the gear shifter was shifted to the park position however, the gear shift indicator failed to show that the vehicle was in park. There were several attempts made before the shift indicator showed that the vehicle was in park.the vehicle was diagnosed but not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

My 2018gmc acadia slt-1 has been having acceleration issues like shuddering and or feels like a fullloss of power , with no check engine light. I've taken it into the dealership twice for this problem . I've only taken it in this 2nd time because it got worseand scared me that it would die on the highway. It also has had to have the battery charged 3 times in a couple of weeks , yet the dealer says the battery checks good.at the least i believed since its under warranty they would change the battery in the case the computer is causing issues based on battery voltage. The alternator is working , but with only 29k miles none of this battery nor acceleration shudder and stumble like its going to die should be acceptable.

Vehicle when put in park does not shut off.took to hillsdale gmc 1/13/20 and it was okay for awhile.this same problem started about 3 mo ago again.put in park will not shut off.you may have to restart, pull into gear, back to park, over and over!very annoying especially if you have an appointment!

The vehicle sometimes fails to recognize that it has been put into park, flashing a message on the dash instructing me to 'shift to park' even when the gear lever have already been moved to the 'p' position.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. When the contact turned off the vehicle and removed the key from the ignition, the vehicle's warning sensor went off, the radio remained on, and the automatic door locks failed. As a result, the contact was unable to lock the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to great lakes gmc buick (2824 n ridge rd e, ashtabula, oh 44004, (440) 319-3925) where it was diagnosed that there was a sensor failure; however, the remedy was not available due to a shortage. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 21,000.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. When placing the vehicle into park, "action required, shift to park" appeared and a warning chime sounded. When the vehicle was placed into park and shut off, the beeping noise continued. Upon starting the vehicle, the warning noise and indicator turned off and the vehicle operated normally. Budd baer auto (71 murtland ave, washington, pa 15301, 724-914-6670) was notified and an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle serviced. The dealer informed the contact that they could not guarantee that the part would be available to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

Receive a shift to park issue when trying to turn off the car. Have to move the shift to drive and back to park multiple times before it allows me to shut off the car. After a month or so it started draining my battery. I had to pay to replace the shift assembly and replace the battery. It's been less than 2 months and i'm starting to get the message again!

1* purchased march 2018 (acadia denali) since august 2018 in motion when i accelerate it sounds like a loud lawnmower & crackling sound in rear muffler area. Took it chevy place in glenpool, ok. They couldn't find anything. 2* on 2 occassions, in motion, the car accelerated with a loud noise & as if it were getting power & not moving then jerks & speeds up about 15mph faster & i couldn't stop it. I kept slamming on my breaks, but the break would only go in so far. I was frightened with my 2 young boys in car screaming. It's like riding a horse & it takes off & you can't control it. 3* on about 8 or 9 occassions stationary i get out of my car & it makes a really loud annoying sound like a machine/robot powering down.my kids always say, it's going to blow up4* the most annoying, for past month...stationary,every single day & time i turn my ignition off. It has loud beeping sound & check rear seat flashing on screen then shift into park flashes. This occurs every single time i turn my car off. Sometimes i have to just let it go on all day because i can't get it stop. I turn car on & off shift back & forth & it still will not go off. Sometimes it does after long periods of time. I don't have time to struggle with getting a car into park every single time i turn my ignition off. I have to beat it forward hard with my hand to the point my wrist is bruised. Now i have to use my foot to kick gear shifter into park. I'm afraid t's going to roll out & or down and hit something, someone or even one of my children. Which would not be good. I've seen several of same complaints. This really needs to be investigated & recalled asap. My elderly mother had to call my brother to another part of town to beat the gear shift into park. This car was brand new & i shouldn't have any of the above mentioned issues. It's frustrating thinking gmc was top of the line & it's not.

Shift to park error , on computer display.

I just bought this 2018 acadia in july and it is now giving me the shift to park alert even though the car is in park. It takes several tries of restarting and shifting to get it to turn off, so far. I'm afraid one time it will be stuck there permanently.this apparently is a known and frequent issue and gmc needs to do a recall.

When trying to put in park won't shut off says shift to park, started around 25,000 miles have to be sure vehicle is level and not on an incline. Vehicle also surges at times loosing power when you're going down the highway. Also, at times when you go to start vehicle it will hesitate and disconnects from battery thus resetting everything. Had to replace battery at 25,000 . The rear wiper will go on it's on without turning it on.

The vehicle fails to detect when i move the transmission shifter into park position. I have to try to turn off the car and turn it back on and sometimes have to drive in in it again and then attempt to shift it to park and shut it off again. Sometimes it won't shut off, and then i'm stranded.

2018 gmc acadia shown'shift to park' message even car is stopped/ parked.

Dead battery at 12,973 miles. Replaced battery.also at 13013 miles 'put in park' message and beeping when the car is in park.car will not shut off, cannot be locked and continues loud beeping.repaired by dealer.at 13268 miles 'put in park' message and beeping when car is in park is happening again. Also, dashboard lights sometimes do not come on and sometimes shut off when driving.is going back for repair again.battery is losing amps.

Gmc acadia "shift to park". The suvs fail to detect when the gear shift lever is moved to park.the dash board showa a message on the instrument clusters that says shift to park even though the gear shift levers are already in park.in addition to losing the ability to shut off and lock the suvs, i was unable to turn the suv off after attempting to do so serveral times.

I put the car in park, but the instrument panel reads "shift to park." the engine turns off, but the electrical system stays on because the car doesn't think it's actually in park. I have to turn the engine back on, shift to another gear, shift back to park, and turn the engine off to see if it registers that the car is in park. I've had to do this several times before the car actually registers that its in park and will completely turn off.

"takata recall" i have a 2018 gmc acadia been having it since july 2018. Today i put the car in park and pushed to the button to turn the engine off and the engine shut off but in the dash it was dinging and said "shift into park". I turned the car on and off several times before it would shut all the way off. It has down it every time i went to shut the car off today. Couldn't leave it at work in the parking lot like that so i had to keep turning the car onand off and shifting it into reverse and back to park until it shut off.

On december 5th 2019, i arrived home from work to take my son to his dr. Apt. I pulled into my driveway around 10:30am. I left the car on so my son wouldn't have to go into a cold car, being he way sick. I ran into my house where my mother was watching both my sons. I said to my mom, let me use the restroom quickly before i get his coat on. I was no more than 2 mins. As i stepped out the bathroom, i hear my husband screaming from up stairs the car is on fire! he comes running down there stairs as fast as he can, almost injuring himself because he didn't see me yet and thought i was in the car! he then sees me and grabs the fire extinguisher. He runs outside to try and extinguish the fire..as i called the franklin square fire department and 911.but in under the 5 mins the car was engulfed in flames! we had to then evacuate the house because the garage is an attached garage and the car was in the driveway of the garage. My poor kids were frightened for their life as we rushed them out the house as their mommys car was up in flames..they were crying their eyes out in fear. The fire caught onto the tree on the front lawn as well as destroying the garage and driveway. I cried extensively thinking of the what ifs...what if i put my son and i directly into the car, without using the restroom that day. What if this had occurred when i was driving on the parkway with my whole family in the vehicle. This vehicle was a death trap that almost took my life and my family.we found that their had been a recall on the gmc acadia for the 2017-2018 editions. I having a 2018, where was my notification of a recall? where was my letter..email..call from gm?i have numerous friends the recommend the gmc acadia as a great family car. They are all now scared to death because of what happened to me. Non feel safe using their vehicle now.

When vehicle is in park the car is not realizing and is alarming with a message shift to park. I've read this is a common problem in 16-18 acadias and this is a safety issue as well when i can not turn the vehicle off

Known dash prompting me to shift into park when the indicator lights show its in the park position so the engine shuts off but dashboard lights stay on and won't stop until battery is dead

The service stabiltrak notifcation keeps coming on and shutting off on its own while in motion on a street and it has also happened while on the highway. It has occurred at different speeds and several times with different people driving.the dealership can't figure out why and it doesn't show it even came on at all. When in motion on a strret going 46mph the car tried to auto correct pulling me out of my lane by itslef. It was a straight street with no curves where this occurred. Thank god there wasnt a car in the lane next to me. The side mirrors reset themselves all the time. If i move the seat and then hit the memory button so it will go to the set position the seat doesn't move at all. I have had rental cars more than my acadia the past 2months while the dealership trys to get these issues fixed. I love the car but am getting mad with all these issues.

My 2018 gmc acadia was bought new. It has an issue with the shifter regarding "shift to park". When the vehicle is placed in park the sensors or computer does not recognize it and you have to shift in and out of park to get it recognized. My car has roughly 42ooo miles only and was stationary when this occurred. I called my local gmc dealer in new jersey and they said it was not under recall, it is a known electrical short and my vehicle is not under warranty. They wanted 400.00+ to fix the problem or issue. Upon an internet search i learned that this is a common problem with this model. I feel as a consumer that gmc should generate a recall on this issue regarding "shift to park". Thank you

When you shift into park, the chimes start going off and the dashboard message says 'shift into park'. I have to wiggle the shift until it shuts off. Sometimes it takes a lot more wiggling than others. This happens about 90% of the time. This has happened since we purchased it.

When putting my vehicle in park and pressing the engine off button, i get an error message "shift to park", and the vehicle beeps and will not turn off the electrical, but the care is already in park.

The shift to park action required keeps popping up when i go to turn my car off. The car will be in park. I will have to turn the car on and off multiple times before the notification goes away and than im able to get out of the car.

Will say that vehicle is not in park and will not shut off. Constantly says remote device not detected despite me using the remote to start or turn the vehicle off. Will not officially turn off saying remote not detected and radio will stay on.i can use the remote to turn it back on but the receive the same error message, this happened 4 times when we parked at the ball fields sunday. How frustrating that we had to hang by the car hoping the next try it would cooperate.this is clearly a problem that gmc needs to fix.these are not one time errors, i have some type of error daily.

First of all, this issue is being reported by hundreds if not thousands of gmc acadiaowners. I received the "shift to park" message months ago while it still was under the 36,000 mile warranty and then it went away until last week.i got a "shift to park" message when i turned the vehicle off even though the gear was in the shift position.this caused a number of secondary issues that are now compromising the safety of the vehicle.once i am able to turn the vehicle back on after it drains or kills the electrical system, i am getting a number of issues.however, the ones that concern me the most are the rolls even though the vehicle is in park, loss of power steering, loss of awd, loss of stabilitrack, loss of abs, braking system error and power surges.these are the most concerning but i am also having issues with my dashboard, navigation, and vehicle instruments.i called the gmc dealer who had no problem telling me the gear shift box needed to be replaced, not covered under warranty and they had no idea when they can fix it because it was on a national back order.what really disturbs me is that there are lawsuits going on dealing with this particular issue and that literally it compromises the safety of the vehicle and neither gmc or the nhtsa have acted on this.i was driving today and realized how dangerous it was to operate a vehicle under these conditions.you can literally be driving and the vehicle have a power surge which makes you lose control caused by a malfunction in the gear shift box.i am assuming that no one will due anything until several people are either killed or seriously injured. This issues has been reported on models going back to 2017 and here we are in 2019 and still have the issue.please help us, this issue is happening to thousands of drivers and it is not being addressed by the nhtsa or gmc.please recall or stop selling

I have received the 'shift to park' error message on the dash when the car is already in park. One time with the car off, the error message on, the car started to roll despite it being in park. I had to restart the car, shift the shifter down then back to park back down and back to park before the car would recognize the shifter was in park. Each time this happened when i was in a parking spot and in my garage.

The vehicle keeps saying "shift into park" when parked. Can not correctly shut the vehicle off or lock the doors all the dash stays lit up. Must run through the gears several times. Turning it off and on until it goes away.

The vehicle was stationary and did not allow me to turn the power off. Shift to park message would not go away even though the vehicle was clearly in park. I had to try 10-15 times to put the vehicle in other gears and park again and turning on and off until it eventually turned off. This has happened several times and if i just leave it with the message there the car eventually drains my battery. It has been happening for a week during several different occasions and am concerned it could drive away on its own if it happens again and i can't get the message to turn off.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Shift to park known issue has started. I've had the car for 1 yr. 5 months. I know there are lawsuits on this issue.continuous issue and getting worse.this needs to be taken care of by gm. It is epidemic in their acadias.stationary and putting it into park. It doesn't recognize it's in park! it's been occurring off and on over a week, not today, every time i try to turn off the vehicle.

Put car in park and push button to shut car off and motor turns off but it's in accessory mode and the display message says to shift to park.takes numerous times turning car on and off and moving the shift button around before it recognizes that the car is in park. It started a month age where it would happen only once and when i turned the car on and back off it stayed off which made me think it was human error.this last time it took me an hour before it recognized it was in parksearch the internet and see other people having the same problem and gmc is aware but no recalls.

Shift vehicle into park.turn vehicle off.warning light comes on and says "shift to park."turn vehicle back on.move shiftier from park to 3rd gear.turn vehicle off.warning light comes on and says "shift to park."do this a few more times and it finally stops giving me the warning. It does this intermittently.

The second row seats get stuck from time to time when attempting to fold them down. We have also been having issues with the shift gear when trying to place it in park. When the car is placed in park and we try to turn it off, the car will refuse to shut off and will ding until finally the car registers that the shift gear is in park. I have to turn on and off the car multiple times, and even wiggle the gear multiple times before the system finally recognizes that the car is in park.

Gmc acadia will not register when the driver shifts the gears into park.an error message 'shift to park' is shown on the dashboard even though the gear is in park.the driver is unable to turn the car off because of the error message.it takes several turns of switching the car on and off and flipping through all the gears in order for the message to disappear so that the car turns off.the car was taken to the dealer on june 26 for repairs and has been sitting there over a month because they are unable to correct the issue.

When i shift the to park and try to turn off my car the shift to park lights up and i have to down shift and then shift to park again to get my car to shut off also the air compressor has already quit working with less than 40k miles on it.

The contact rented a 2018 gmc acadia. While the contact's friend was driving 40 mph, the engine revved and the vehicleaccelerated on its own. The brakes failed to stop the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle drove through a partition and crashed into a brick wall. The air bags deployed. All four occupants in the vehicle were injured and received medical attention. The contact suffered chest pain, another occupant sustained a cut on the head, and the other two occupants suffered fractures. A police report was filed. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a tow lot. The failure mileage was unknown. .. Whenever i shift from driver or reverse into park my car isn't registering that i shifted to park and if giving me the message of 'shift to park'. I had to shift from drive to park at least 4 times to be able to get my car to recognize that my car was in park and so i could turn off my car.

"shift to park" error 90% of the time when i attempt to shut the vehicle off. It is in park and it's not recognized as being in park. It can take me anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to jiggle it the right way to get it to register. Problem is until it does register in park i can't secure the vehicle. And it dings nonstop draining the battery. I understand gm is aware of the issue and doesn't have a fix. It needs a new transmission in my opinion. I'm stuck in a lease paying for a car that isn't safe for me. It just started 6 days ago and has already occurred more than 2 dozen occasions.

My car keeps giving notice of it not being in park, when its clearly shifted into park. It wont shut down, let you lock doors. Just beeps until it finally realizes its in park. Even after continuously re shifting into park. Worse in the summer months. It needs to be fixed as many others are having the same issue!

Vehicle will not shut off as it shows shift to park. Reoccurring problem.

Vehicle will not acknowledge that it is in park.forces electrical to stay on, and sometimes will not engage park so vehicle can move as if i'm neutral.has thus far happened with vehicle stopped, but you can sometimes shut off engine and exit vehicle when it is not in park and can roll against you, or on kids exiting etc.vehicle rolled in garage and struck, and could have crushed child against door.

Put car in park went to kill it and it wont turn off says shift to park it is in park had to do this like 10 times ..twice today..my car wont turn off finally got it off. I have only had this 2018acadia lead than 1 mth.. I have read where this is a big major issue.. What do i do

Driving at night , if it is raining, headlights are not bright enough. So bad it's like there not on. These projection lights are useless. I have had two near misses because or this problem the older style lights were so much better, my truck has the older styleh4 bulbs and they are so much brighter.

My 2018gmc acadia slt-1 has been having acceleration issues like shuddering and or feels like a fullloss of power , with no check engine light. It also has had to have the battery charged 3 times in a couple of weeks , yet the dealer says the battery checks good.at the least i believed since its under warranty they would change the battery in the case the computer is causing issues based on battery voltage. Shift to park error , on computer display.

When the vehicle is warm, the transmission appears to slip when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. The engine will rev between 500 to 1000 rpm while shifting.during this time (half to full second) the vehicle is not accelerating and does not respond to throttle inputs.the vehicle has been taken into dealerships 4 times for this complaint.at 35000 miles (3rd dealer visit), gm replaced the valve assembly.the problem reoccurred and gm is only offering to replace the same part, or extend the warranty on the transmission, but not both.no one at the dealership or gm technical assistance center has any idea what is actually wrong and is not taking any steps to find the cause of the issue. The service manager has admitted that there is a problem, but gm denied him any help in resolving the issue.they have said that this is not a safety issue, but i do not feel comfortable driving a car that may become unresponsive to accelerator pedal input for a full second.note that this issue is still covered by the powertrain warranty at this time.

Car displays 'shift to park' message after transmission gear selector has been placed in park. Car will not turn off and the tires roll freely.after numerous attempts of shifting in and out of park the car will finally recognize that it is in park and allow you to turn off the vehicle as well as lock the transmission.

Car warns to put in park when it is in park.dealer fixed it a year ago and it has started again

When the vehicle is shifted into park and the ignition is turned off, an error message is shown saying "shift vehicle into park". Usually pushing the shift knob forward and releasing it will make the error message disappear but there have been times that the vehicle had to be turned on and off multiple times as well as shifting from drive to park multiple times to make it go away and turn the vehicle off.

Vehicle states "action required - shift to park" even though vehicle is in park.accessories stay on and vehicle continuously sounds warning chime.this problem occurs every time vehicle is shifted to park.

When i try to shut off ignition i get a warning on the dash that says to put vehicle into park before shutting the vehicle off even though the vehicle is in park already. I have to shift in and out of park or ride around again and then trying parking again to get it to shut off. Once i even left it running and went into the store because i could not get the vehicle to shut off due to it thinking it was not in park and it was.

'action required shift to park' - message. Stationary. The car is in park! bells sound. Doors lock. Battery drains. Hundreds of other folks have reported the same issue online. Please recall this car, dangerous and i have kids.

2018 gmc acadia.the crossover (automatic gear shifter) is failing to recognize that it has been put into park, flashing a message on the dash instructing the driver to 'shift to park' even when the gear lever have already been moved to the 'p' position.

Put car in park went to kill it and it wont turn off says shift to park it is in park had to do this like 10 times ..twice today..my car wont turn off finally got it off. I have only had this 2018acadia lead than 1 mth.. I have read where this is a big major issue.. What do i do

While stationary, instruments show a shift to park message, even though the car was in park.acadia would not fully turn off until this message is not present.the only way found to have the message clear is to continually shift from drive to park until it recognizes that the car is indeed in park.this happens repeatedly - 8 out of 10 times i drive my car.

Gear shifter moves to park position but indicators and engine off switch will not switch to park state without jiggling shifter handle tip.

When i put the in park, it does not recognize that the vehicle is already engaged.the console displays tells me to put vehicle in park and beeps. I have to keep moving the gear shift from reverse to neutral to park several times before it recognizes the vehicle in engaged in park. This has been happening about 8 months or so. I have mentioned it to the dealer and they tell me their are no recalls for my problem, not even recognizing my problem with the vehicle.

When attempting to turn the vehicle off after shifting to park and then pressing the start/stop button, the vehicle gives an error message that says "shift to park" even though the shift lever is in the park position.the error message prevents the vehicle from shutting down.this occurs when the vehicle is stopped, put into park, and then when attempting to shut down the vehicle.

When the car is shifted into park, the dashboard shows a warning that the car is not in park. The car then won't turn off completely.

When i shift the to park and try to turn off my car the shift to park lights up and i have to down shift and then shift to park again to get my car to shut off also the air compressor has already quit working with less than 40k miles on it.

The shifter is in park with the p lit up, but i cannot shut off my car. A message comes on the screen that says shift to park then push off. It continues to run until i take it out of park and put it back in.

Whenever the vehicle was put in park and i attempted to shut it off, it would give me the shift to park error code and would not let me cut the car off completely.it would happen just about every time i drove it. I just got it out of the shop for the third time and was told this time they replaced the assembly. So far it has not happened again but it has only been a week.it started back in january 2020.

My 2018 gmc acadia has warning of shift to park. When it is in park. And will not allow me to turn off the car. I feel this is a major issue. This only happens when it is stationary.

After parking, my acadia would not shut off completely. A message came on the dash, 'action required, shift to park'.a constant chime was sounding also. I restarted the car, shifted out of park, back into park, tried to shut off again...same thing....4x's!!! i went right over to the dealer where i bought my car and explained what was happening ( couldn't shut off there either). Service manager knew immediately what the problem was but says the part (gear shift) is on backorder and has no idea for how long!!! what??? why isn't this a recall? i've read quite a few of this same complaint so i can't understand how this isn't a recall already especially if the gear shift required to fix the problem is on backorder, it's obviously a bigger issue then 1 or 2. So for now , i just have to wait and 'keep playing with the gear shifter until it goes off' as i was told until the part comes in! how crazy is this

Park the car shut off engine and a message comes up please shift to park. The car is in park but it's not being recognized by the computer or drivetrain? have to play with the shifter to be able to shut off car . Only happens when parked and shutting off car.

Left front half shaft fractured. Was making a turn on highway. Vehicle has 53262 miles.

Vehicle does not recognize when it is in park. At times vehicle will not go into park and makes me concerned for my family's safety. My understanding is that gm is aware of this issue.

I shifted the gear into park, and a message appeared saying to "shift to park" and wouldn't allow the car to be turned off or its doors locked. This is a safety issue because the car is unable to shift into park and could roll back.

Went car is park the dash still shows 'put car in park' car will continue to pee, will not lock.from what i read gmc knew of this problem but continue to sell gmc arcadia from 2017 to 2018.even though this is a known problem they still charge the consumers for the repairs.this only happened went trying to put vehicle i park.

After putting the vehicle in park, "shift to park" is displayed on the dash. I have to shift the car in and out of park several times to get the vehicle to recognize being in park.

Experienced the "vehicle not in park " when shifter was in park. Engine would not turn off because electrical switch did not recognize the vehicle was in park. After many tries i was able to turn vehicle off. Had vehicle serviced and shifter was replaced (3 weeks ago ).todayshifter froze in park yet console indicated vehicle was in drive. Did not remove foot off of brake because vehicle would move forward because it was in gear. Could not shut off vehicle because it is a push button start/stop and foot must be off brake to stop engine. Called dealer for help. Finally we put emergency brake on and pushed stop button. The engine turned off but electrical system was still on. Had vehicle towed to dealer.they will advise in a week or so they are short handed.

My vehicle was stationary.i stopped the vehicle and placed the shift lever into the park position.when i pressed the start/stop button, the button's amber warning light came on, an audible warning began sounding and all instrument lights stayed on.when i looked at the driver's display, it stated, "shift to park".(the shift lever was already in the park position.i could not shut the vehicle down and could not leave the vehicle in that condition.i continued to move the shift lever from drive to park and after 8-10 shifts, the vehicle finally recognized that it was in park.then, the start/stop button functioned correctly.upon investigation, i found that this is a very common problem with 2017-2018 gmc acadias (there is even a class action law suit pending).some owners even report their vehicles rolling when in this condition.as of this date (5/19/2020) gm has not recognized this as a design problem and has not issued a recall.this is obviously a design issue since it happens within and out of the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty.if it happens at 36,500 miles the vehicle owner is out of luck!this is also, obviously, a safety issue.thanks for your time and help.

Vehicle will not shut off due to a shift to park message when the shifter is already in the park position.

Place shifter in "park", turn off engine, and get "shift to park" message on console.while message is displayed, the car constantly beeps, warns, lights not turning off.have to start the engine back up, and place the shifter into drive and then back to park.sometimes have to do this 5-10 times in order for the car to turn off.this first happened at 11k miles (under warranty) and dealership fixed.i am now at 16k miles and it is happening again (out of warranty this time).

My car keeps giving notice of it not being in park, when its clearly shifted into park. It wont shut down, let you lock doors. Just beeps until it finally realizes its in park. Even after continuously re shifting into park. Worse in the summer months. It needs to be fixed as many others are having the same issue!

When gear lever is shifted into park and you try to turn of the engine a notice comes on telling you to put your car into park.i can not turn off the car until this message disappears.sometimes it takes 7 or more tries to finally be able to shut off the car.if i leave it with the message then all electrical seems to stay on.

Shifter assembly went out, known issue and gm won't cover part

The transmisduon shifter when shifted into park, the information center said vehicle not in park and it will not let me shut the car off it was a 400$ repair at the gm dealership not covered under any of my warranty

When turning off the vehicle, a warning message comes on saying "shift to park" even though the vehicle is in park.the shifter reads park and so does the dash.vehicle is unable tobe completely turned off or locked with this message appearing.it requires turning vehicle on and off, moving shifter in and out of park, jiggling shifter buttons, etc.this can take one try or multiple tries.i just had this fixed by the dealership (replaced shift control) and was disappointed to find that this is a known issue, affecting many vehicles and it is still the responsibility of the vehicle owner to pay for the expense if the bumper to bumper warranty is expired.the shifter runs the power train!why is this not under the power train warranty and why is this not a recall?now, in researching, i'm seeing that many have had it happen again after the issue has been "fixed".dealer tech notes tsb 19-na-206 in his report.

Vehicle will not shut off as it shows shift to park. Reoccurring problem.

The vehicle shows a warning with a bell tone 'shift to park' when the car is already in park.it stops only after wiggling gear shifter numerous times.

Shift to park error , on computer display.

When putting vehicle in park, message comes up on dashboard "shift to park." sometimes takes multiple attempts to get vehicle into park so vehicle can be turned off. Have to shift between drive, reverse and park or wiggle shifter and pump brake to get message to go away.

When i put my vehicle in park, it will not shut off and dashboard it says 'action required. Shift to park.'vehicle won't turn off and it keeps beeping. It is when i'm parked

Shift to park not happening. Stop the car and then the shift to part indicator shows up in the driver information center. So far i have been able to clear it out. Going into the dealer first thing in the morning. I have looked and there appears to be a class action on this issue and a tsb. I just bought this vehicle and was not told about this issue.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. The contact stated that the vehicle was started remotely while still in park, however it independently shifted out of park and into reverse. The contact stated that the vehicle traveled across the yard onto the main road and crashed into a building. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent autobody shop but the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,972.

Shift to parki shift the car into park and try and turn the car off and it still says shift to park like the car isnt in park but it is.it wont allow me to turn the car off. I have to shift it into different gears or jiggle the shifter for it to register. I have had to resort to removing the battery cables off to turn it off one time as well. The car when it does shut off feels like the transmission isnt fully engaged.

Vehicle states "action required - shift to park" even though vehicle is in park. Accessories stay on and vehicle continuously sounds warning chime. This problem occurs every time the vehicle is shifted to park and engine is shut down.

Cannot leave car."shift to park" message appears even with car is parked.sometimes takes 15 minutes to put car in park

The six speed transmission always exhibit bucking/hesitation when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Also, when speed between 40mph to 50mph, the transmission exhibit severe hesitation to downshift when press throttle pedal. Moreover, the transmission exhibits harshness when downshift when decelerating from 45mph to 0mph.

Every time i put the car in park position the car doesn't sense that it's on park and error message keeps appearing in the screen saying 'shift to park' and the car refuses to turn off and it roll away from the drive way and i have to shift it back to drive and again to park again and again multiple times till the sensor feels it. It's a safety hazard. I looked up the issue online and found out that most of this car owners experience the same problem and there's multiple lawsuits against gmc for this issue. This car is driven by my wife most of the time and she has my kids with her in the car. It's a life threatening issue! i took the car last month to the dealership and they refused to fix it for free because the car went out of warranty by only 2k miles, and i couldn't take the car to the dealership when this issue started because of the covid. By the time we could visit the dealership we already drove over 5k miles and that puts the car outside the warranty limit.

Shift to park . Would not shut down or could not lock vehicle. Warning light & beeping sound.

After shifting my acadia into park and shutting it off, "shiftto park" warning comes us sounding an alarm that won't go off unless i start the car and shift in and out of park several times.it gets harder to get the warning to go away each time i drive it.i have had to result to not driving it to avoid the battery draining or having to unhook the battery.the car only has 19000 miles so the dealer is willing to replace it but there are no parts available.also, others have mentioned that the problem returns even after the repair.

The vehicle sometimes fails to recognize that it has been put into park, flashing a message on the dash instructing me to 'shift to park' even when the gear lever have already been moved to the 'p' position.

The car would not turn off when put in park when the car was stopped. The engine would turn off, but the electrical devices (lights, radio, odometer readings, etc.) would remain engaged.the warning indicator said the vehicle was not in park and it would take 5-10 minutes of turning the engine on and off, and shifting back and forth in and out of gear before the car would turn off completely.a search on line indicated several people complaining of the same issue.this car is 2 yrs old with less than 40k miles.it was maintained as a company leased vehicle by us before being purchased by us, so we know it has been properly maintained.we ended up having to have the shift column replaced.

2018 gmc acadia shown'shift to park' message even car is stopped/ parked.

Took our acadia in on 9/25 after several weeks (started the week of 8/26) of the shift to park indicator light kept coming on. The dealership had it for several weeks (p/u 10/16) because they couldn't get the parts due to the gm strike. We have had it back three weeks and it has begun again with the shift to park light. We keep the parking break on just in case, don't trust it.have another service appointment on 11/15. We will see what happens.

Recevied "action required - shift to park" message on instrument panel screen. Motor turns off but vehicle stays in accessory mode and chimes continuously.dealer replaced wiring harness that promised to fix the problem, went away for 1 month and came back.jiggling the shifter or flicking the shifter button is the only way it will go away.

I financed this vehicle in may 2018 through a gmc dealership. It is january 2019i started getting alerts once i put my car in park and turned the motor off. The warning alerts stated on the dashboard "action required -shift to park-" even though it is is park. The alert is loud and will not go off. I have to start the car again and adjust the gear shift a few times by moving it to drive, neutral or reverse before the vehicle recognizes that it is is park and the alert leaves the screen and the sound goes off. Sometimes it takes a few moments of moving the gear shift before i am able to leave the vehicle. This is highly inconvenient especially when you are in a hurry to leave the vehicle.i am extremely frustrated because this is a brand new vehicle. I contacted the dealer and they immediately asked me was the car still under 36,000 miles. Thankfully it is. I entered my vin number in this database and no recalls have came up for my model oddly. But for a different model of the gma acadia 2018 there is 2 recalls. Ironically, the same complaint has been reported.

When i go to put car in park and go to turn it off it saw shift to park on the information screen. The shifter is in park and p flashes on and off on the shifter. Gmc has said they do not have a fix for this. This is a safety issue if you think you're in park and go to get out and it is not.

When you put the shifter in park it does not recognize & cabin alarm starts to beep. The vehicle will also leave its headlights on overnight & drain your battery.took to dealer and they couldn't do anything about it. It's been 2 weeks and no letter of resolution from manufacturer as the dealer said.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. The contact stated that when the gear was shifted into park, a warning beep sounded, informed the driver that the vehicle was not in park. The contact was unable to turn the vehicle off. After several attempts, the contact was able to shift the vehicle into park and turn the vehicle off. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 37,000. The vin was invalid.

Shift to park notice. When attempting to turn off vehicle and shifted into park, vehicle will give a warning that vehicle is not in park. At this point i have no idea if the vehicle is in park or not. Not sure if i am just receiving a faulty notice or is the vehicle not in park and could roll causing injury! this is not a safe vehicle. Gmc unable to repair due to not having the part available. This may happen for two or three times. It has happened that i have had to turn my car off and back on up to seven times before it registered as in park.

The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. The contact stated that after stopping the vehicle and placing the gear shifter in park, a message displayed to shift the vehicle into park. The contact owns a 2018 gmc acadia. The contact stated that upon depression of the brake pedal, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where she was informed that the brake pads and all four rotors needed to be replaced. The contact then called brad deery motors (112 n. 2nd st, maquoketa, ia 52060) and was informed to take the vehicle in to be diagnosed. The contact was then informed that only one of the rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The contact also stated that upon attempting to park the vehicle, the shift to park warning message would illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact had to repeatedly shift the vehicle in and out of the park before the vehicle would recognize the shifter in the park position. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

Front seats feel loose and like they shift.when they shift and move a popping noise is heard.the shifting and popping noise happens in and out of corners, going over driveway/parking lot aprons.the sensation is unpleasant and irritating.have spoken to dealer and auto body shop.associates claim similar problem existing with yukon's.does gmc have a seating problem or recurring defect?

When the car is shifted into park, the dashboard shows a warning that the car is not in park. I have to move the shifter back and forth before the car registers that it's in park. Happens on nearly every occasion that i turn my car off.

While getting an oil change at my gmc dealer they discovered that a rear brake pad was separating from the back metal plate it was attached.they said it was a serious safety issue.they said it was a manufacturing issue and not the result of wear.the dealer said the car should not be driven.they did not have the repair parts so i took it to tuffy muffler who fixed it.they confirmed it was due to a manufacturing issue.

This vehicle has always since we bought it gave us tremendous problems while driving during a snowy day. Brakes typically do not work, at times even going through a red light and thankfully not been in an accident. Recently, the stability control system and the antilock braking system stopped working while under a snow storm. Unfortunately, we took it to the nearest delearship to get it fixed and we were told that the problem was due to the snow, but after the snow everything was good. Unfortunately, people do not have the money to pay for a vehicle and have it parked during the winter, that is what is happening to us.because nor the dealership or gmc has done anything to help. This has been reported since december 2018, the vehicle has 34500 miles on it and is relatively new now, but we should not have these issues. It is of our knowledge that many people who bought this vehicle have the same issues. It would be good if they accept these vehicles have issues and correct them prior to promoting and selling to customers. Since they did not correct these issues prior to some individuals to purchase the vehicle, they should work on a solution via a re-call to avoid any injuries to families of their vehicle's owners.

I have been having issues with the gmc acadia's shift to park function. On a daily basis while driving, when i stop the car and shift it into park, take my foot off the break, and turn off the ignition, the car beeps continuously and displays a message that the car is not in park. I typically have to turn the car on and off multiple times or pump my foot on the brake multiple times for the message and sound to clear. The car has even continued to roll forward a few times as well when shifted to park and the ignition off.

In motion on the highway 401 north ontario canada, the vehicle erratically increased speed and brakes were noir effective, lost control of the steering wheel which caused a massive accident involving multiple cars and resulted in multiple injuries. *dt

Since the beginning of october, there are times that the car doesn't register that it is in park. When the car is turned off, there is an alert that comes up on the display saying to put the vehicle in park. It isn't every time the engine is turned off, but it can sometimes take up to four or five tries to get the car to register that it is in park. I shift to park, turn the car off, get the alert. So i turn the car back on, shift to a different gear, and than shift pack to park and turn the car off. And repeat this until i stop getting the alert. When it is put in park, the car will shift slightly if i get this error. I've started using my emergency break whenever i get out of the car to make sure that it won't roll.

Front sunroof exploded on july 25, 2018. Driving down road heard loud gun shot like sound and the glass started pouring in. Most the glass went to the back seat where my 4 and 5 year old were in their car seats. We were headed on vacation form arkansas to the beach in alabama. The vehicle was in motion. Two lane highway in the middle of no where no cars in sight. Weather was clear.

Stop vehicle/ shift to park / touch button to turn off vehicle/ engine turns off but driver information center states shift car to park. I have to start the vehicle shift out of park then back to park shut off engine several times before it recognizes it is in park.

Exploded sunroof - the sunroof exploded when i was not in the car.i heard the glass falling in to the sun shade when i closed the door.took me several days to recognize and figure out what the sound was.no rocks, no sign of anything falling on the roof to damage.the glass appeared to be pushed out as can be seen on the photos.

When you shift to park the vehicle does not go into park. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the jumper harness (84733196) on may 1, 2020. That did not fix the issue on july 24, 2020 dealership replaced the shifter (84699764) trans control. This occurs when we are stationary attempting to place the vehicle into park from driver or reverse.

Keep getting parking shift gear warning even when vehicle is parked. Happens frequently

Gmc acadia is placed in "park," clearly shown on the dash board with the "p" highlighted red.when the power button is pressed, a "shift to park" alert pops up and will not allow me to leave the car.this caused me to be late to work this morning.then tonight, after working a 12 hour shift at the hospital on thanksgiving, i had to sit in my garage for 20 minutes trying to turn my vehicle off.

I was getting a shift to park error message when putting my acadia in park.i had it repaired on 08/18/2018.the same problem came up again and was repaired today 10/19/2020.this is a safety issue and very frustrating.my warranty expires on 12/14/2020 and because there are so many complaints on the gm authority website this should be a recall so myself and others are not stuck with paying for something that is no longer under warranty.this happens when a vehicle is put into park and then this shift to park error message comes up.sometimes you cannot even shut the vehicle off.both repairs involved replacing the shifter assembly.this is a gm problem and should they should issue a recall.

2018 gmc acadia shown'shift to park' message even car is stopped/ parked.

When the vehicle needs to be shifted to "park", the car notifies you on screen "shift to park" and then becomes stuck and you have to keep wiggling, trying to get it to actually park until the notice goes away. It happens at random andhas been going on for the last two weeks. There seems to be no recall, yet the 2017 2018 models are all having this same issue and there is no recall yet. This is a huge safety issue and we are now being responsible for the charges to have it being fixed. This should not be my responsibility as it is hugely aware to all the dealerships and there are court cases being filed because of this.

Shift to park. Sensor won't shut off.

When i shift the car to park after driving i receive a "shift to park" message. The vehicle is in park but will not register.

Will not shift to park when stationary in driveway and public parking space, multiple attempts to shift to park. Appointment made to try and fix, happened 3 times in one week.

When pushing vehicle ignition button "start/stop" to turn vehicle "off" it will turn the engine off but keep the vehicle still "on" using the battery. If i open the door and shut it, the horn honks to alert that the vehicle is still "on" and not completely stopped. The only way to get the ignition button to acknowledge the vehicle is off is by jerking the gear shift until the green light goes to "off". It does not do it every time i turn the vehicle off, but it does it about every other time. I will take it to the dealership very soon for them to look at this also.

2018 gmc acadia park issue.the vehicle keeps saying "shift to park" when parked. Can not shut the vehicle off or lock the doors. The dash stays lit up. Always have to run through the gears several times taking up to 15 minutes to get into park.

When i turn the car off i receive the message shift to park. The car is already in park and i have to shift multiple times for the car to register it as parked.

Put car in park went to kill it and it wont turn off says shift to park it is in park had to do this like 10 times ..twice today..my car wont turn off finally got it off. I have only had this 2018acadia lead than 1 mth.. I have read where this is a big major issue.. What do i do

The vehicle sometimes fails to recognize that it has been put into park, flashing a message on the dash instructing me to 'shift to park' even when the gear lever have already been moved to the 'p' position.

Shift to park icon comes up and will not let me turn off vehicle. This is dangerous and needs to be recalled. And to top it off, i sent it to a gmc dealer and they told me they have to order parts but since gmc is on strike the parts will take a little while to get here.

Ref my 2018 gmc acadia. When i'm trying to shut the engine off a message appears saying "shift to park" even though the gear shift is in park.this wont let the vehicle shut off causing a drain in battery.

Shift to park issue not engaging properly resulting in lights and alarm staying on and not allowing doors to lock.occurs frequently.

When i try to shut vehicle off it says shift to park. My vehicle is already in park and i cannot shut it off. It just continues do ding as well and i cannot lock the doors and the lights will not turn off.

I went to put my vehicle in park and it showed me a shift to park message. Took it to the dealer twice to get it fixed. Today it happened again, but this time it's stuck on drive and left me stranded in the parking lot. I had to put the emergency break on, disconnect my battery and leave my car for it to be towed to the dealer tomorrow or monday.

The vehicle would display a dashboard warning "shift to park."every time the vehicle was put into "park" the vehicle would not register that it was in park. This would prevent the vehicle from being turned off.a driver would think the vehicle was in park, and take their foot off the brake, but the vehicle would not register it was in park and would display a warning on the dash "shift to park."you would then have to shift back and forth, from park to reverse or drive and then back into park for the vehicle to finally register it was in park.this would occur while the vehicle was stationary and sitting anywhere you would park the car.

Vehicle is not recognizing that it is in park therefore resulting in the vehicle not shutting off

When i put my car into park a shift to park message appears. I have to move the gear shift several times to finally get the car to shut off. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes! it happens every time i turn the car off. I have to sit there with my foot on the brake because i'm afraid it will roll away.

I'm getting the "shift to park" message when my vehicle is already in the park position. This issue first started happening in 2019 and i took it to my local gmc service center to be looked at since it was still under warranty. It started happening again about 2 weeks ago. My extendedwarranty and powertrain has expired, so i'm concerned that the same dealership will charge me for this repair when i take it this week. If this is a known issue with this vehicle, as evidenced by the scores of complaints related to this issue, why isn't there a recall on this vehicle?

Car won't turn off.the dash warning says shift to park when the car is already in park. You have to shift back to drive several time for the park to engage and then shut off.

When putting my vehicle in park and pressing the engine off button, i get an error message "shift to park", and the vehicle beeps and will not turn off the electrical, but the care is already in park.

When the vehicle is in park, and i attempt to turn vehicle off, i get a messege saying to put vehicle in park. Vehicle will not turn off.

My 2018 gmc acadia denali will not register that it is in park and therefore you cant turn off the electrical even after exiting the vehicle.also it will roll away as i found out this morning as i was trying to get help from the dealeship.

My 2018 gmc acadia has warning of shift to park. When it is in park. And will not allow me to turn off the car. I feel this is a major issue. This only happens when it is stationary.

Shift to park sensor appears when car is in park. Will not shut off. Car beeps and will not lock. We have to start and shut off the car while putting the car in park and out of park to get this sensor to shut off. Sometimes this will take 15 minutes. Cannot leave the car with light on.

When i shift to park, when i'm out of my car it starts rolling and saying that i need to shift to park, even though i'm already in park.

My 2018 gmc acadia was bought used. It has an issue with the shifter regarding "shift to park". When the vehicle is placed in park the sensors or computer does not recognize it and you have to shift in and out of park to get it recognized. I called my local gmc dealer in tennessee and they said it was not under recall and my vehicle is not under warranty. They wanted 400.00 to fix the problem or issue. Upon an internet search i learned that this is a common problem with this model. I feel as a consumer that gmc should generate a recall on this issue regarding "shift to park". Thank you

Car will not recognize i've shifted to park when i turn off the vehicle. It says shift to park when i already have, and i have to start the car and shift again over and over to park for it to work. Very concerned about safety.

I put my 2018 acadia in park in my garage (a flat stationary spot)and i receive a message that states 'put vehicle in park', which it already is in park and as a result the engine won't shut off. I have had this occur several times over the past month, but most recently occurred on october 24, 2019.it is my understanding it is possibly a bad shifter assembly which not only will keep the vehicle from shutting off, it can also not hold the vehicle in park.i have researched this issue and i am disappointed to discover that gmc is aware of this issue occurring with the vehicles.this is a serious issue especially if it will fail to hold your vehicle in park.

Water leaking in threw back windows, side walls , water coming in there plastic in doors both front and back, water coming in back up under head liner. This all happening after rainfall and the car was parked in drive. This car only has 8,000 miles on it purchased brand new in october 2018 off show room floor, i am the only owner. I have pictures to support all of this as well, including water damage.

Shift to park warning is coming on, i am not able to turn the car off. The car is rolling either forward or backward while in the parked position. I have to turn the car on and off many times plus put it in forward, reverse, neutral and most of the time that still does not fix the problem. The car will not turn off, and it is rolling forward or backward while it is parked.

When you try to put the car in park it states that its not in park. It will not shut off. You have to start the car and shut off multiple times and hope that works. I've looked it up and there is a lawsuit about it but no recall. It does this every time i drive somewhere and try to turn my car off.

One day my car started telling me shift to park while it was in park. As the day progressed it became worse and worse. Resulting in the car not shutting off. Putting it into gear and back to park was not helping. The last time it took nearly 30 minutes before i could get the car to shut down completely as it kept staring shift to park. Car was not moving had only gone within city limits with max speeds of 45mph.

Shift to park2018 gmc acadia awd error message saying vehicle isn't in park; multiple attempts to move shift lever, turn off and on, etc fail to turn off the error message so the car will completely turn off.car turns off but the alarm keeps beeping saying it's not in park.vehicle has been at the dealer for over 2 weeks with no, zero, date of replacement to arrive.vehicle is owned (no fiancing, no lease).paid for a $50k vehicle that i can't drive. Not safe, not useable.

Vehicle does not recognize when it is in park. At times vehicle will not go into park and makes me concerned for my family's safety. My understanding is that gm is aware of this issue.

'shift to park' error message is showing when my vehicle is already in park and i'm trying to turn the vehicle off. I purchased this vehicle less than a month ago and it currently has 33k miles on it. I've had to turn the vehicle back on several times to get this error to go away. When the message flashes i've even experienced the vehicle rolling indicating it is in fact not in park although the shifter is in park position. This needs to be recalled immediately and i will also be consulting an attorney as this is a known issue with no clear fix (many people who have had the shifter replaced are having the same problems again) and the part that needs to be replaced is on backorder. People's vehicles literally cannot turn off resulting in batteries dying among the very obvious safety concerns. How is this legal?

In motion on the highway 401 north ontario canada, the vehicle erratically increased speed and brakes were noir effective, lost control of the steering wheel which caused a massive accident involving multiple cars and resulted in multiple injuries. *dt

My acadia stalls during acceleration usually while going about 40-50 mphand pressing gas pedal to increase to highway speeds. Its happened numerous times over the past several months

Driving straight on freeway when rear panoramic sunroof exploded with the sound like a gunshot. The glass is shattered outward still with photos to show the outward explosion.

Front tires have started coming apart; such as, tearing or ripped tread. Similar to looking like they were "gouged" with something. Tires are rotated with each oil change on a regular basis. Purchased vehicle new with 440 miles, and currently have 33,xxx miles on these tires. Just recently noticed this on the 2 front tires, so date "happened" is date it was first noticed. Vehicle has not been in any kind of accident, or off road, or driven recklessly.

The acadia has 23,700 miles on and the tires are wearing out.new ties shouldn't be needed until 60,000 miles.this is a lot of difference in what should be obtained by these tires.
