1996 freightliner daycab caught on fire and consumer pulled on the right shoulder. *njthe consumer noticed smoke coming from the dashboard. When the driver disconnected the battery cables, a small fire started, but the consumer was able to put out the fire. Ohio traffic crash report # 10-0371-90 updated 04/15/10

2009 freightliner semi, unit 1 was traveling westboundon the ohio turnpike, when he noticed a problem with his electrical system on his truck.when he lifted the hood he saw a small fire coming from his electrical box. Consumer sent correspondence regarding safety recallconcerning low pressure fuel line *tgwthe consumer stated he was not able to sped up or drive fast. The problem was discovered to be the fuel pump and the fuel housing on the left side of the engine. The consumer stated after the repairs, the truck stalled on several occasions.

Consumer stated the king pin anti-theft lock was designed to prevent unauthorized hook ups, however consumer was able to hook up his trailer with the anti-theft lock still attached, and it was not until the trailer became unlatched that consumer realized the anti-theff lock was still on. Ts

I was guiding my husband as he was backing our motorhome out of our storage facility to take it on a trip. I noticed the passenger side taillight assembly begin to smoke, there was a plastic burning smell, the lower brake light went out, then flames started shooting out of the assembly. The sequence of events happened very quickly.i was on the cell phone with my husband and began to yell fire. He quickly stopped, shut off the engine, grabbed the fire extinguisher, ran to the back and put the flames out quickly.*dtconsumer stated taillight assembly and circuit boards had caused the fire.*dt

Consumer writes in regards to safety recall 11c2, epa04 mbe 4000 low pressure fuel line *tgwthe consumer stated two of the three trucks had the recall performed. However, the dealer informed the consumer, the recall could not be performed on the third truck, as there were no mechanics available.

During installation of the parking brake assembly the transmission case was damaged/cracked. Mjs

2005 freightliner t120. Unit #1 was eastbound on the ohio turnpike when his transmission fell out and caught fire. The fire was put out immediately by salesman. *lnaccording to the police report, the transmission was serviced a week prior. (ohio traffic crash report # 10-0473-91)

The contact owns a 2007 freightliner, model fccc, c2 (na).while driving 30 mph, the vehicle began vibrating excessively with a rattling sound.the vehicle was towed to a dealer and they stated that the flex plate failed and damaged the transmission.the dealer replaced the flex plate.the manufacturer stated that the failure was common, but was not under warranty so they would only partially cover the repair.the engine size was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 18,000.

Letter on behalf of constituent concerned about the safety of air brakes on semi trucks, buses, rv, this problem causes the brakes to lock up and/or catch on fire; please respond directly to the constituent.

The motor vehicle inspector of ny/commercial vehicle safety bureau/region 5-frank phelps, has written nhtsa to inform us that he/colleagues has found that the brake hose kinks on the service brake air line near the glad handle, on a 1997 truck.*scc

Had two breakdowns concerning brakes, brake pedal would not engage, engine raced and then tried to apply brakes again, pedal went to the floor all wheels locked up.

Consumer writes in regards to freightliner truck air line leaks in trucks *tgwthe consumer stated the air line leak causes drivers to lose control of the truck and making it very hard to stop. The air line is on the front brake, and when a hard turn and heavy pressure is applied, the driver can't stop the truck safely.

Steer brake hose tie secured tobrake sensors is skin tight and does not allow any movement between tie and hose while steering action occurs.

Investigation report submitted for the front flexible air brake hoses on the state of connecticuts, dept. Of transportation, freightliner fl 60/fl-80 business class (1997-1999).the front brake hoses are leaking air due to the fact that they are double fabric braided, rubber lined and are very stiff, constant movement of the steer axle is weakening the hose and results in air loss on brake applications, and left in place will eventually completely fail. *mjs

The motor vehicle inspector of ny/commercial vehicle safety bureau/region 5-frank phelps, has written nhtsa to inform us that he/colleagues has found that there has been a number of front air line hose defects on the steering axle of these trucks.they are leaking air upon brake application through the sides of the air hose.(putting the truck out of service) at times the leaks are so bad, that the vehicles are not able to maintain air pressure at idle.there has also been an occasion where the brake hose kinks on the service brake air line near the glad hand.the year of the trucks are as followed:1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002.the inspector has a hose in his possession that looks like the steel reinforcement is rusting out and breaking the strands, causing a loss of strength in the sides of the hose, resulting in them blowing out.and specifically, with one 2000 truck, the front spring hanger bolt are loose in the axle shifting.*scc

2010 freightliner.consumer writes in regards to dd13 engines and roll over protection system.the consumer stated as he was accelerating to merge into traffic, the truck shut down and he applied the brake. Since the truck was not straight, as he had just come out of a curve, the trailer went straight ahead and rolled the truck over.

After purchasing truck the consuer noticed that it had been wrecked or damaged in some manner, both frame rail were bent and twisted and there was a large area of "bondo" under the paint on a body panel.consumer concerned that freightliner sellsrebuilt trucks as new.nlm

These vehicles suck in exhaust fumes through the outside air vent.this occurs when sitting at idle among other vehicles idling.the exhaust from other trucks is what is being sucked in through the vents.the problem is mainly noticed in the winter when the heater is in operation.consumer is concerned that some drivers may not realize their heaters are sucking in exhaust fumes.*jg
