We were origanlly told our car needed a new computer chip,we now believe it was a blown headgasket the entire time. The car ran "alright" for a month or so,but never quite the same, after we got the chip, the check engine light always remained on,the dealer said they would have to re-start the computer, and addtional $200.00. We drove it for another month, until it finally just quit. After talking to several different mechanic's they all informed us it was a blown head-gasket all along. Several other t-bird owners have told us the exact same thing happened to them,at approx. The same milage. Has there or will there be a recall on the head-gaskets?ow many complaints do they need to recieve, before they will re-call a vehicle?( dot number: )

Computer failure, causing rough idling.*aw

The ecc apparently failed 1 jul 2000, although diagnosis of this was not known until the car could be serviced on 5 jul. The ecc failed, commanding a fuel injector to remain open, thus injecting raw fuel into the cylinder continuously when the engine is running. The check engine light came on after several hours of engine stumbling on 1 jul. Ford defines this problem as, "have your vehicle serviced as soon as conveniently possible." for this situation, this comment is not acceptable as the problem can cause a fire. I stopped driving the car after filling the gas tank on 2 jul and finding the car consuming more than a half tank of gas in thirty miles of driving. The car was smoking profusely from oil burn and gas could be smelled by following drivers by 4 jul. The car was driven about one mile from one home to another and then to the dealer for repair. The service technician states that a car with similar occurrence was in last week with the same problem that had resulted in a fire. This discharge of raw, excess gas into the catalytic converter is most dangerous. Ford should be required to resolve this problem to preclude driving under these circumstances. The ecc should be designed to command compete shutoff when it detects an abnormal fuel flow to any cylinder. The total cost to me for resolving this problem is in excess of $450.00. This is not a "check engine" light that can be ignored until convenient.

Torque converter replaced at 35,000 miles. Car never ran the same.this car has had all tune ups checks, and servicedates kept. Has had 1 driver.has never been"beat on" . Transmission specialist has had many 1994 fordthunderbirds with problems in 2nd gear in transmission.the gear is gone! it just spins in passing gear. He stated that ford knows and has changed equipment, but not notifying anyone. Also, computor problems.

Automatic transmission shifts out of overdrive at a speed of approximately 40-60 mph . Car loses all power and acts like transmission has gone into neutral. When this problemhappens you can push sometimes on the accelerator and the transmission seems to feel like it slips and the tach rpms go to almost 6000 rpm before the car will sometimes shift back into drive.car has had the main computer replaced twice, and the transmission valve body has been replaced at the transmission repair shop per their advice but the problem still persists. .........please try to advise me of a possible solution to the problem.i have a friend that has the same model of car and the same year who is experiencing the sam sort of problem.

Multiple brake malfunctions, several transmission sensor replacements, wiring system repairs, two alternators and four batteries replaced, and with in the first year the air conditioner fan motor failed three times.

Under the hood engine compartment fire, vehicle had been driven and parked, electrical short.tt

The eec wiring (two harnesses for the transmission) failed.the failure caused the engine and transmission to operate erratically.the dealer states that the failure was due to water and snow splashing up onto the wiring causing a great deal of corrosion.the replacement parts will be the same as the original parts.no other measures are suggested by the manufacturer to avoid this problem in the future.the wiring in question should have been adequately shielded in order to prevent the exposure that caused the corrosion.

Parked vehicle in parking lot suddenly vehicle caught on fire underneath the hood.tt

The stop light module in rear window has melted because of heat caused by the light bulbs. The melting has crushed on bulb and cannot replace the bulb. Fear of high heat may cause a fire.

While driving at 35 mph the vehicle stalled and made it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle.*nlm

Engine - makes a moaning noise and raises the idle.as a result, the care wants to accelerate, even without pressure to the accelerator. Paint - paint oxidized on all skyward facing surfaces.spots of rust have developed. Power lock - driver's side power lock makes a noise, but does not move the lock transmission - doesn't shift when it is supposed to, and when it does, it is very jerky.

While driving theengine check gauges" light came on the dash board. I looked and saw that the temperature gauge had gone up as far as it could go. I brought it to an auto service center and had it checked. I was told i had a blown head gasket. My car only has 46,500 on it and has been well maintained. I was told this seems to be a common problem with that year thunderbird and i feel that ford should be responsible for the repairs.

Car was checked after found to be running warmer than usual. Head gaskets and cylinder head water ports were found to be defective and replacement was suggested. Approximatley 1500 miles after this work was performed the car developed addititional engine problems including excesivly wornmain bearings resulting in a replacement"short block" being installed. Since this work has been performed the car has had oil leaks and tune-up problems.

Leak due to either gasket failure or channeling due to corrosion of aluminum parts.this is a design flaw.

I received a letter of recall for the headgaskets on my car which had already been repaired and, ford refused to honor their recall. Apparently they don't know how to prevent this proplem considering their have several make and years that have been recalled. Also i think itis odd to have a transmission completly rebuilt 2 times. First time was 93000 miles next was 106000 miles. So fari have spentmore money on this car than any of the rest of the cars i have ever had.going back to theheadgaskets, i tried to trade my t-bird for another t_bird and the dealership would not deal with me period. Thank you tina trout.

The following items have prematurely failed causing replacement: rotors, oil pressure gauge and sending unit, thermostat & gasket, instrument panel, power steering pump, battery, alternator, piston, transhaft, fuel injection system, intake manifold, serpentine belt and now the headgaskets are blown

Head gasket failed. Called ford motor company. Said there was a recall on the head gaskets but it was only up to 100000 miles or 7 years was not covered any more. I do beleive the problem had started some time ago as the motor kept useing antifreeze. I thought the radiator had a slow leek but now i realize it was probably pushing the antifreeze out the overflow when the motor was running. So being that there was a recall on the head gaskets i do feel that ford should have help on at least some if not all of the repairs.

While traveling on the street at 40-45 mph, vehicle overheated. Drove vehicle to an independent repair shop, and informed consumer of a blown head gasket. Manufacturer notified, and told consumer that vehicle was not covered under the class action lawsuit.

3.8 liter engine head gasket blewout.contacted dealer. Consumer states there was a recall, but the warranty ended and repair would not have been covered.

Head gaskets blew, causing coolant to leak onto the engine. Ford has extended the warranty on similar makesand models. However, this vehicle was not included.dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

The head gasket failed which caused thevehicle to overheat and stall out.*nlm

Vehicle overheated and stopped running. Vehicle towed to repair shop. Shop manger said there was coolant in the oil and the head gasket was blown. After the engine was repaired there was still a problem with coolant in the oil. They removed the valve timing chain cover to find that one of the freeze plugs has rusted thru causing the coolant to become mixed with the oil. The mechanic replaced the rusted thru freeze plug and three others in the area. After all these repairs the car still does not run correctly and emitts a loud rattling sound from the right side of the engine.we have had other problems with this car namely the transmission and the air conditioning.

I was driving at a steady 60 mph when a sudden loss of oil pressure and loss of power occurred.towed to repair facility and found a blown head gasket to be the problem.car has 101,000 miles.contrary to many others, this is a 4.6 v8.

Vehiclestarted overheating, and radiator coolant started leaking & eventually vehicle just shut down.dealer stated if the engine had to be replaced, they would pay for it.but, if the radiator needed to be flushed, they wouldn't cover it.

Engine head gasket seal has blown, causingoil and anti-freeze to leak all over the engine. Dealer has been contacted.

Engine failure at 63000 miles. Front seal failed, allowing coolant into engine.car was meticulously cared for, and driven carefully.

Ford knew they had a problem, and extended the warranty to 7 years and/or 100,000 miles.they "claim" they sent me a notice in april of 2,000, and i know i never received it!now, they are saying that it's outside coverage, and they are not responsible.requesting you investigate other claims on this and since it's widespread with this vehicle type, consider recalling the t-bird for the faulty head gasket.

Consumer expereinced problems with the temperature gauge going from cold to hot instantaneously.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined the head gasket was the problem.consumer feels ford should be responsible for the repairs.*jg

Experienced head gasket failure on 8-yr-old car with 45,000 miles (warranty limited to 7yrs or 100,000 mi). Major defect design flaw admitted by ford. Now refuses to cover costs of repair..

I, as well as my family have dealt with ford motor company for as long as i can remember, however i must say this occurence is an outrage!i have had multiple problems with my car recently.i have a 94 ford t bird that i bought last year and have just been contacted by letter that there is a recall on the 94 t bird for the heads.this throughly explains to me why the car has been in the shop three times over a short period of time.my mechanic has checked for a radiator leak because the coolent light is on and i'm continuously leaking coolent.i have had a transmission specialist look at my car for possible transmission failure because of the way the car is driving the transmission was serviced to try a fix this most inconvenient problem.the car was in the shop another time for the exact same problem.three bills have been paid specificallhy because of leaking coolant.since i don't religiously keep receipts i only have one, which only puts me out about 650.00 because of a recall from ford motor co that says the coolent is leaking out through the heads basically destroying my car engine. This does not account for the number of times i have had to pull off the road and let my car cool down because of overheating.i have been given two options by the company.the will repair the heads with manufactured heads and give me a 12 month warranty or if i wait more than 5 days for the services they will give me a 3000.00 dollar gift certificate to but a new car that i can't afford and possibly the book value of my car.the lovely 3000.00 gift certificate to the car i can't afford or the repairs are the only realistic options i see here. What this means is my car is only good tor 12 more months under warranty after repairs to an error on their end.i thought fords were supossed to last longer than that, besides i won't even have the car paid for in 12 months. I have no options here but to reject their proposal and they have lost a very valuable family of customers

The engine in this vehicle has performed without flaw.i learned from my dealer that a letter was issued to owners with information on premature head gasket failure on the 3.8 l engine.i did not receive this letter due to dealer error.the dealer did not properly register me has the onwer of the vehicle with ford moter company.therefor i was not aware of any pending problems.the service manager stated that the dealer was not responsible for the error and no support for repair would be given.had i been aware of such problem, corrective measure could have been performed which would have prevented damage to the engine.when i contacted ford customer support the call taker was very rude and offered no support what so ever.also, comments were made to the affect that i should consider myself lucky that the car lasted as long as it did.i have maintained my car as prescribed by ford since it has been in my possession.i feel this may be an attributing factor in the extra mileage before failure.however, based on my care of the care, i am expected to cover the caost of a known flaw in the head gasket.i am requesting assistance for the repair of my vehicle.

Head gaskets should not be a problem at 66,000 miles.this is a major repair that ford motor company should be liable for.

Engine blown due to head gasket failure, had to replace the pulley that broke off resulting in loss of power.

Differential cover gasket failed.*sd

Passenger seat hits console when moved forward, when applying brakes-the steering and car shakes badly, both side electric windows binds when going up or down, shifter handle broke off causing to hold piece in when shifting to drive-park-etc., both engine head gaskets blew at the same time along with a coolant tube, rocker arm lock nut was bad causing loud noises in engine, speedometer needle sticks on 0. I bought it at suburban ford in elgin, but moved to elk grove and took my car to larry roesch ford for the repairs.my car still needs to be brought in for brakes, engine runs rough and hesitates at a low speed, the seat is still broken, shifter also still broken, windows still bind, the brakes and engine is what worries me the most.after all the times i brought it in, they still haven't fixed anything.in fact, the last time i brought it in, some bolts were missing from the engine.any further questions, please contact me.thank you.

Consumer was traveling about 45mph onhighway and suddenly without prior warningvehicle had smoke coming from underneath ofhood.vehicle had to be towed to a private company. Head gasket had blowen out.

Premature wear ofhead gaskets.manufacturer has issued a recall on head gaskets;however, consumer did not receive notification.

At 56000m had to have transmission overhauled, at 91000 head gasket or intake gasket blew had to be replaced, understand that other similar vehicles have had recall on head gaskets but was told by ford that my model not included in these recalls.

I took the car in for aaa diagnosic and found out the head gasket was blown and that there was a recall. I contacted the ford dealer who said i was not covered since the car has 103,000 miles.the car has been well maintained as per factory specifications.it has had regular oil changes and has never overheated.i have all maintanence records showing diligant maintenence practices.the headgasket blew from defect, yet ford refuses to cover it, first stating the mileage limit and then further stating that, since i was not the orginial owner and since prior repair work had not been done at a ford dealership i would not be covered anyway.furthermore they stated that if i had received the recall notice and brought the car in to replace the gaskets, they would not have fixed gaskets that were not yet blown.i have not been able to speak with anyone above phone representative or service manager.the regional manager (tara olsen) was supposed to explain the company's reasoning behind their refusal and discuss my concerns with me yet she has yetto return my calls and her direct number is "not accessable to the public."the representative i spoke to at ford headquarters (duncan alderson) refused to discuss the issue beyond a blanket refusal, and instead of being transfered to higher-ups, i was transfered to security.i would have been willing to split the cost with ford if they would have dealt with me reasonably, but they refused to discuss or negotiate a flaw that they have admitted is their fault.instead they insist on setting arbitrary cut-off times that they cannot or will not justify and that will most likely not be met by most of the fords in question.they will not supply statistics on the projected life expectancy of non-defective headgaskets or transmissions (another serious problem) nor will they document in writting any of their phone refusals to honor the recall.i have paid for repairs and now look for reimbursement.

Head gasket blew on my 3.8l ford thunderbird. Car only had 83,000 miles on it. I had read that other ford 3.8l engines have had this problelm and that ford may be extending warrenties to cover this problem. 3.8l engine has gone out on my 94 thunderbird 3 times since new.i do drive my car for work and put on average 35000 miles a year.this seems to be a reacurring problem for now i have 95 mustang engine in this car and the same problem has happened again.first engine replaced in alabama with a private repair place so i have no documentation of repair.second went out at 160,000 after rebuilt.purchased 3rd engine from young man who was taking it from mustang to install some thing bigger.the third had 65000 miles and has gone out within 25000 miles after i installed it.seems kinda fishy will never own a ford again.ford will not reemberse me for any repair since the only receipt i ahve reflects 160000 miles at time of 2nd repair.

The fuel pump has been replaced 2x since the beginning to july 1998.the when you fill the tank it is as if someone has turned on a fauced directly underneath the vehicle and gasoline just pours out.gasoline fumes are always present in the vehicle.we have been to 3 mechanics and all have claimed that it is faulty fuel pump but the vehicle continues to leak gasoline.the problem started before the 60,000 warranty ran out but we weren't able to take it to the dealership because we were on vaction at the time.as soon as we returned we took the vehicle to the ford dealership and they claimed it wasn't covered because we were 1100 miles over the warranty.the vehicle is still leaking gasoline and fumes are always present .any assistance would be appreciated since we are at a loss as to who to turn to.this is a problem that nobody has been able to fix but $1200 later we still have an unsafe vehicle. ( dot number: )

Fuel pump assembly failed on two occasions, resulting in leakage and fumes.

97s84; fuel line rubs against the floor pan, ford contacted and no changes have been made after the recall.

Fuel leaked from the vehicle due to a ruptured fuel line. In 1997 the same defect was found in the consumers 1992 thunderbird.*scc *nlm

Vehicle o-ring failed, due to a crack in the sender pump, resulting in leakage.

To whom this may concern:i am writing to inform you of an extremely dangerous defect with the ford thunderbird.luckily, i did not incur any bodily harm, but the potential for personal injury is significant.on september 15, 1998 the computer on my thunderbird failed.everything on my car is controlled by this single part to some degree.the thunderbird has electronic fuel injection, which depends solely on the computer to regulate the gas flow.instead of shutting everything down when the computer failed, the computer actually allowed and unregulated flow of gasoline into the engine.this design flaw has the potential to cause two significant situations that would cause human injury.first, the excess gas in the engine could cause a fire, or even worse, an explosion in the engine.second, the excess gas may cause the car to accelerate against the driver's will and cause the driver to loose control of the vehicle.in addition to the potential for injury, this flaw is also very costly to repair.the excess gas in the engine causes significant damage to the engine.while the computer cost 'only' $550 to replace, the bill to repair the engine damage was over $2000.my car has high mileage for a 1994 vehicle, so this may be one of the first complaints filed for this type of problem.however, i believe that this is a serious issue that needs to be promptly addressed by ford.please investigate this issue and make consumers aware of this potentially deadly problem.

The following items have prematurely failed causing replacement: rotors, oil pressure gauge and sending unit, thermostat & gasket, instrument panel, power steering pump, battery, alternator, piston, transhaft, fuel injection system, intake manifold, serpentine belt and now the headgaskets are blown

Vehicle hesitates when accelerating.*skd

Fuel tank is leaking fuel from cracks in seal rings of tank.fuel tank had been checked, and no prior problems were noticed or found. Have contacted dealer.

Fuel gauge failed.

Passsenger side door latch broke while driving causing the door to open while driving.

Emergency parking brake fails to set.*skd

Consumer had problems withvehicle jerking forward while at stop lights.the vehicle eventually would not start.the vehicle was checked by three certified mechanics.the consumer was informed that the engine head gaskets wore out.vehicle was repaired.the vehicle also experienced problems with it's power window's, air conditioner and transmission. *nlm

The transmission gears suddenly without warning refused to shift out of low gear.this caused the vehicle to abruptly slow down almost to a halt while in traffic.on two separate occasions, the consumer brought the vehicle into the dealer where purchased.while in the hands of their transmission technicians, the problem was not diagnosed.consumer sought out a reputable specialist who installed a sensor which solved the problem but only temporarily.the malfunction was diagnosed and repaired at a second attempt.the spring accumulator was broken, the overdrive band was burned as were the low clutches.the consumer discovered ford motor company recognized the poor design and changed it so consumer requests reimbursement of monies paid for repairs.*jg*scc

Transmission failed.

While driving at 40 mph to 70 mph, vehicle will downshift, transmission will slip, and vehicle loses power. Power will come back on, and then the vehicle will accelerate.

The transmission of this vehicle has for the last several years and many miles will without warning either downshift from od without any alteration in accelerator pressure or will jump into neutral and the engine rpm will rapidly increase and the vehicle loses all pulling power. This is especially dangerous when climing a hill on an interstate or in heavy traffic as the vehicle decelerates without any warning to traffic to the rear. Repair attempts have been filterand fluid change, fluid level checks on a regular basis, linkage lubrication, and routine maintenance of the vehicle in general. I am wondering if there are inherent issues with this style od transmission. The other major failures were left side head gasket and severe front brake pulsation. The dealer finally replaced the brake rotors with what seemed a better unit, and i conducted the repairs on both side head gasket replacement. Please advise me of any known issues regarding this transmission and what, if any, recourse for repair i might employ. I thank you in advance for your time and attention to this matter. Gkw.

Rough 3-4 upshift with increase in rpms, when driving at 55-60mph rpms will suddenly go up and down.

Transmission is slipping while driving which could cause an accident, dealer cannot determine defect. *ml

Transmission begins shifting from od to lower gears for no apparent reason.a transmission flush seems to clear up the issue for approx. 6,000 miles and then the problem is back.the past week has been very bad.this morning on my drive to work (3 miles) the issue occured 6 times.

Transmission experineces vibration and difficulty in loss of power during shifting. Mjs

I noticed immediatly after buying this car that the transmission slipped that was 11/98 it took several calls to the dealer and a coarse of a year for them to finally fix it.second time i brought in to shop replaced whole transmission that was 12/99. Now in 6/03 the transmission is starting to slip again. Also had recall letter about head gaskets, ford refused to work with me on replacements, had to be replaced out of my own pocket. Private dealer lied about condition of vehicle, it had transmission problems when i bought it. Ford made no attemps to help resolve problems.

While drivingvehicle shutters between third and fourth gear. In the morning, whenwarmingit up, it will not move to go foward od backwards.

Overdrive wiring to console shifter failed.

Tranmission grinds and slips in and out of overdrive and low and high speeds.tranmission was fixed once before by dealer. It is estimated that the transmission needs to be replaced now.

Loss of forward drive on interstate in heavy trafficable to pull onto shoulder car went intodrive before i stopped. Problem continued to do this every 40 or 50 miles . I have yet to take it to be repaired. This has started to do this at speeds of 40-50 mph after only driving 10-12 miles

Transmission has been replaced twice and fixed twice due to shifting late and shaking while driving. Dealer has also replaced several parts invehicle, but solution did not work. Contacted dealer.

While driving at 55 mph, transmission downshifts, causing vehicle to accelerate; also, replaced throttle positioning switch (tps).

Transmission slips out of gear, rpms run high, and then it goes back into gear, and jumps forward.

Transmission does not shift properly between first and third gears which may resultina crash.common problem.please provide further information.

6 months after purchasing the vehicle, transmission failed, was rebuilt.in 1998 had to have the rotors, pads and calibers replaced.also, in 1998, head gaskets blew, had to replace.in 1999, pcv and pcp valve replace, oil sensor, dashboard guage module replaced.now in august of 1999, transmission is slipping again.needs to be replaced.

I own a 1994 ford t-bird with a 5.0 v8 and as i am driving(not accelerating, etc.) the car it unexpectly down shifts for no reason.it appears to happen more during the summer months when it is hotter. I have taken the car to lake city ford in coeur d'alene at least 4 or 5 times over the last 4 or 5 years and they keep telling me that some part "just needs cleaning"the problem keeps coming back.i feel that it is a danger and could cause an accident.

Transmission had to be replaced because the gearswould not shift on there own.

Transmission vibrates going into overdrive.

At 56000m had to have transmission overhauled, at 91000 head gasket or intake gasket blew had to be replaced, understand that other similar vehicles have had recall on head gaskets but was told by ford that my model not included in these recalls.

Transmission will down shift for no reason between 50 & 70 miles per hour.some time it will keep shifting up and down then go back to normal.

Transmission in these thunderbird is terrible the person i bought it from has already had it fixed and i have too. It is starting to act up again for example i will be driving down the interstate and my car will slip gear and will cause me too tempory lose control. I feel as though this should be looked into because i have heard many other complaints from other drivers.

Have had two transmission in last 4 months. Multiple problems, shutters, "zip" noises when accelterate, rpm jumps while driving causing the car to feel like it is in neutral, now my overdrive light flashes off and on.lesson here...never buy ford!!!

Consumer is getting a shutter or vibration when shifting to 3rd gear, consumer has noticed this for about 9 months.contacted dealer and had fluid changed.problem has not reoccurred since.*ml

First complained to dealer that transmission shifted hard on 11/04/1994 @ 10378 miles: dealer responded no problem found.next visit to dealer on 09/20/1995 complaint vibration in driveline at upshifts - dealer responded no problem found.continued to take card in to dealer complaining of intermittent problem -engine revs (tachometer increases) and vehicle not moving forward.dealer said continually they could not replicate the problem.finally car got to point where problem was occurring at nearly every speed every day.had transmission rebuilt at american transmissions, royal oak, mi.problem still not solved.after several return visits, problem was found to be faulty electronic control module, ford part no. F3lp-7f293-ba, which essentially put transmission into neutral while in drive.this failure is what i tried to resolve unsuccessfully with ford dealer for approx. 5 years.problem was the same each time, and was finally identified and repaired by someone outside the ford service network.this problem is a safety issue because my car was "coasting" until the trans "caught".

Automatic transmission drive train failure.

Vehicle has had two replacment torque converters and overhauled transmission, vehicle transmission is still not working properly.

Transmission will not go into gear while traveling at highway and neighborhood speeds. Speedometer will race, but will get in gear. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

The transmission will make uncommanded and unexpected downshifts from overdrive to 3rd and somtimes to 2nd gear any nearly any speed above 35 mph. This often occurs at freeways speeds of 70 to 80 mph and creates a hazardous, and unexpected slowing.in addition, the transmission may either upshift and downshift repeatedly or go into neutral and then back into gear. This results in the rpm changing wildly and, at times, going high enough to potentially cause engine damage.

Transmission problems experienced.

Transmission failure.

Automatic transmission developed a severe shutter at approx 45,000miles.various ford sevice managers have stated this is a common problem. When asked if this could be a safety problem in continued use, no positive response other than it is most likely the torque converter and no info on safety is known. Replacement or overhaul is always an option, however the cost is excessive and the new unit could fail again. The transmission has not failed, the fluid and filter was replaced at 35,000 miles.

Transmission goes out intermittently. Problem occurred four times. Transmission was replaced the third time atowner's expennse. Problem still occurs. Providefurther information.

There are actully to many other things to list but i would be happy to mail copies of all major safety related problems that ive had with this car.im still haveing engine ,transmission, and other problems not to mention the gas smell that the ford dealer swears isnt there.

Car shifts into neutral from any gear unexpectedly.

Intermittently while drivingvehicle would jump into neutral unexpectedly which might have caused a crash.been to dealer, but dealer cannot determine the problem.

The transmission slips out of gear by itself. It happens at all speeds sporadically. When it slips the car slows down, which has caused a couple of dangerous situations. More dangerous still is that when it slips the r.p.m.'s jump higher and sometimes the transmission then grabs and the car lurches suddenly forward.this has almost caused us to crash twice;once on the freeway and once on a sharp turn.

Transmissionlurches, engine sounds like it will stall, rpms go up, but vehicle will not accelerate.

Overdrive button faulty.

A malfunction occurred within the transmission that when the vehicle is being driven between 35-40 mph,it shifts from 3rd gear into over drive.cause unknown. Dealer cannot identify the problem.please give any further details.

Transmission would shift in and out of overdrive for no apparent reason. This was corrected by replacing two speed sensing switches. This is normally done when ever the transmission is worked on by ford.

While driving at freeway speeds, transmission suddenly downshifted, resulting in loss of control, also slipped from a stop.

Automatic transmission downshifted at highway speed for no apparent reason.

Driving at any speed, transmission will down shift, engine will accelerate & rpms go up, usually after engine is warmed, 10-15 minutes ofdriving.

While driving at any speed, rpms are out of control.transmission seems to slip out of gear, shifts down gear. Dealer not aware of the problem. Problem still exists. Provide further information.

Torque converter failed.

When driving down the road at just about any speed the car starts to shudder. The dealership said it was my torque converter in my transmission and replaced it at 39,000 miles and at that time we were told that the dealership replaced 3 or more a week because the torque converter in the transmission was not built strong enough to handle the size motor built in the car. Now at 60,000 the car is doing the same thing but the dealership said they cannot replace it again because it lasted more than 12,00 miles and it would cost me between $700 to$1,000 dollars. Shifts to neutral.i believe the downshifting is caused by themisalignment of the gearselector.nlm

The rotors on all four wheels have warped significantly causing loss of braking power.this has happened on two occasions since i have purchased the vehicle. Rotors are turned when determined by a service center. Pads are in good condition. The front rotors usally warp beyond usage first, then rear follows shortly after the front rotor replacement.this is a safety concern for me and my family, as we all use the car. I fear that this issue could result in an accident if the rotors warp prematurely again in a critical situation. The average miles on the rotors before replacement is 10k miles. The rotors were turned approximately 2000 miles ago, and again the rotors are warping causing poor braking.

After replacement, vehicle would experience a severe bounce when driving 20 mph or more. Consumer stated that right rear, right front and left rear steel belt broke and replaced. At 89000 miles right front started thumping from broken steel belt.

The tires came with the thunderbird & are cracked on the inside. There are hairline cracks on the outside, as well. The casing of the tires are breaking the tires. Paint started fading withen two years after purchase dealer stated that this was not a defect with the manufacturer they asked me if i had a garage or if i parked my car in the sun at work. And told me it was the elemments. And not the fault of the dealer or manufacturer. I gave up after several attmps to rectify the problem.

Significant water leakage to floor on driver side, during winter months.

While driving on the highway engine checklight came on the dashboard.vehicle started to overheat. Technician saidit blew a head gasket.other ford models are covered for this problem, but the thunderbird is not.*ml

Driving on the highway (60mph),engine'check gauges' light went on - temp gauge was rising and went passed the red zone.the low coolant light came on and the heater was blowing cold air.after examinations i blew a head gasket.now i learn that there was a ford program extending the warranty on the head gasket to 7 years/100,000 miles - initiated april, 2000.i was never notified of the program and have just exceeded the 100,000 miles.ford is unwilling to assist me in any way, even though they were aware of the problem and i was not alerted.i have spoken with at least 5 different dealers and with 3 reps at the customer relationship center and have rec'd much contradictory information regard the logistics of the customer notification bulletins and the detail of the program.im sorry to say that although i would never buy a foreign car, my next car will not be a ford.

Vehicle has sudden acceleration andthrottles up to 74 mph by itself.tt

Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration while in reverse resulting in several collisions.

Driving at any speed, transmission will down shift, engine will accelerate & rpms go up, usually after engine is warmed, 10-15 minutes ofdriving.

Purchase car new when going into a left turn sometimes the car accelerates from 10mph to 45mph by itself .tt

While driving in traffic the vehicle races up to 8000 rpms without warning, causing loss of vehicle control, cause unknown. Consumer has to put the vehicle in netural or cut the vehicle off to gain control.please give any further details.

Dt:the consumer suspected there was odometer fraud.when he purchased the vehicle it showed 91,000 miles on it. After he purchased the vehicle he got a carfax report which showed that in 9-20-99 it showed 118,090 when taken to the tn dmv. Also, the report showed on 4-20-00 that there was 125,035 miles on a service record.another record indicated that it had been taken to the tn dmv but the mileage was unavailable.the consumerhad problems with the vehicle as a result of the high mileage .the vehicle was purchased from an independent person on e-bay.

While driving the vehicle at 35 mph to 45 mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated. Will take off and the engine will start to jump. The dealer was informed about the promblem.

Car just accelerates at any given time. Doesn't matter if you are on the highway or at a stop light. Brakes are worn because of this condition.

Car would run at 60-70 miles per hour without pressing throttle pedal.car would run away due due to uncommanded throttle.

Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration on several occasions.

I have a 1994 ford thunderbird that the cruise control continuously lurches or lunges while engaged.i can no trust it so i must shut the cruise control off in order to prevent a possible accident.this started sometime ago and continues to this date.

Sudden acceleration.

While driving at highway speeds and with the cruise control activated, the vehicle rpms go higher and cause the engine to race for about 2 minutes.also, one day the vehicle suddenly accleerated while the foot was on the brakes, and drove into a wall, causing an accident.please provide further information.

While driving at 55 mph, transmission downshifts, causing vehicle to accelerate; also, replaced throttle positioning switch (tps).

Whenvehicle warms up it goes into neutral spontaneously and without being touched at all. Also, vehicle lurches to1000rpms, and thengoes back to normal.

Intermittent surging while in drive/coming to a stop.

Rough 3-4 upshift with increase in rpms, when driving at 55-60mph rpms will suddenly go up and down.

Car will downshift and accelerate under all conditions.i.e. From a start or while at a constant speed it will downshift and accelerate.

Auto trans shudders shifting 3-4 and 4-3. Speed control failed at 15,000 miles, front disc brakes pulsate and steering wheel vibrates.

Whendriver releases foot from the acceleratorpedal, vehicle keeps increasing in speed for about 3 to 5 seconds. Dealer says it's normal.

Idle control motor failed. *sd

I have a 1994 ford thunderbird that the climate control suddenly started working erratically and will not work right. I have seen a recall in the 1996 model for the very same thing regarding the climate control.this is a very serious problem with being able to defrost the windows in the car so i can see.this could possibly cause a accident due to this.there is no way of controlling the temperature.
