Car will shut down, without any type of instrument/gauge warning, when going at 30+ miles per hour. Panel lights come on just as they would when you first turn the ignition key. The first time this happened i had to wait about 15 minutes before the car would restart. A mechanic who checked out the car said it was the ignition module system, and that i could have it replaced or wait for a general recall. On later incidents, the car will not start for at least 5 to 10 minutes.

While driving in traffic, engine suddenly stopped without warning. Vehicle will not start after stopping and shutting off engine, engine will start after one to two hours of cool down time.

I have just become aware that the problem i am having with my vehicle stalling is due to a tfi module that ford is aware there is a problem with. I have stalled many times in traffic and there have been many times i've almost been hit as a result of this. I drive with a toddler in the car and have been fortunate that we have avoided injury thus far. This is a known problem and someone needs to make ford take responsibility for this problem before another life is lost.

Have had car in shop diffeerent times for same problem, stalling and not starting and the ford place can't pin point it and they took it to a third party and he states he can't find it but he found a code as to where ford couldn't and if not fixed it could stall on the road and someone might hit the car and some one would get hurt, and alos ford doesn't want to fix the car anymore for that problem and it's somewhere in the fuel system or the elect system that this third party told me. And the person that had it before me had the same problem and something is wrong with the car if it was sold at just a little over 14000 miles.

This car stalls when over heated in stop and go traffic,the temp.gauge does not show that it is hot ,but the car just stalls and will not start for about 30-45 min.i have spent alot of money on parts and nothing is working.i have high blood pressure and being stranded in 106 degree weather is notgood for me .i have almost been killed on the highways by being stalled in a lane and not being able to restart the car,once it stalls it will not budge until it cools down .please help i cannot afford to keep putting parts on this car and my healyh is being affected by this. On driving over 55 miles per hour this car's acceleration begins throbbing and speeds out of control.i returned it to the dealer for repair.they chose to put a band-aid on rather than replacing the computer.since that time most major components on the car have failed.most recently, while driving or stopped at a light, the car simply dies as if no fuel is reaching the engine.the battery charges and the engine turns over but the car won't move.i've had nearly $2500 in repairs for everything from the battery, the water pump, the fuel injection system, to the crankshaft pulley replaced.today i'm having it towed to koons ford because i read of the nationwide lawsuit regarding the "thick film ignition (tfi) modules near the hottest part of the engine block, "causing cars to stall."my model (ford tempo) and year (1994) is one of the cards equipped with this module.please tell me if i can get either ford or lustine chevrolet to reimburse me for the towing and expenses related to this defective vehicle.i have saved most of my receipts.

Driving vehicle 40mph, whenengine check light came on; then vehicle would stall out. An intermittent problem. Speed varies.would turn vehicle off for a while & then it would restart. Will be taking vehicle to dealer.

A no-start on these dates4/5/99,4/12/99, 6/9/99, 7/6/99, 9/19/00, 10/13/00. Has donw it one more time. Dealer kelp putting in parts but didn't fix problem and it does start and stalls also and could cause a wreck and they don't know whats wrong.

There are some problems with steering gear and column because when consumerwas using the horn smoke came out and horn never worked again.on the other hand, the ignition switch worked sometimes, and it was not easy to get the key in.the dealer was not contacted.

Owned vehicle for five months, with no warning at all vehicle caught on fire starting from the front when attempted to settle matter with ford and river oaks ford no one would accept responsibility for the damage to the vehicle as well as my own personal belongings that were destroyed.because of employment travel distance was forced to purchase vehicle wholesale for substitution collateral on previous loan. Money to purchase 2nd vehicle was borrowed from family member totaling $543.75.spoke with salesmen at river oaks ford who promised the following year would grant a great deal on very reliable vehicle.waited over a year and a half was forced to continue payments on a vehicle that i was unable to use due to error on warranty that came with vehicle.i am still expected to pay for vehicle which was scrapped and is probably some ones hub cap. While driving at 40 mph the heating level went up.the consumer proceeded to the store to purchase antifreeze, noticed the vehicle smoking, the check engine light came on, the consumer got out of the vehicle, and the vehicle burst into flames.the vehicle was totaled.......in the time the consumer had the car, the temperature gauge never went pass normal until that day; the engine cooling fan would come on before the gauge went up passed normal.

When starting the vehicle a loud banging noise comes from the crankshaft: pulley. This information was told to owner by ase mechanic and the dealership. The problem has not been corrected.

While driving vehicle stopped, hood and tail pipe smoke occurred.also, there was a hole in third cylinder, entire engine had to be replaced,costing approx. $3,000.dealer representative stated that a service bulletin had mentioned that the ford tempo head gasket should be changed after 50,000 to avoid the problem with the ford tempo (vulcan engine).

"service engine soon" light goes on while driving, sometimes going off after a few minutes and sometimes staying on for 20-40 miles. Several people have looked up the codes and can't find a problem. 1994 ford tempo gl.my husband's car went up in flames and smoke yesterday while driving it, the fire department and police came and put it out. The car is a total loss, as well as the jacket my husband was (fortunately) wearing when the flames came shooting out from the engine area into the driver's seat.a friend of mine suggested that i check if othershad this problem, and i came across this site.it looks like others have had this problem, if the nhtsa campaign 97v019000is an indication of such.as far as i know, we were never notified that some ford tempos were potential fire traps. My husband could have been severely burned, but fortunately, his jacket took the brunt of the flames.

Consumer, upon investigation, found that the main pulley bolts are working loose.they weren't properly torqued from the factory.as a result the engine has overheated, problems with the alternator, lighting system and steering power was lost because of connections to the main pulley. *jg

Owner heard a noise in the engine. When vehicle was taken to the dealership, dealer stated that there was a problem with the pulley. The pulley was replaced. After the pulley was replaced the vehicle started leaking oil. Please provide any further information.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that smell of fuel was normal. The contact stated that the fuel leaked whenever the fuel tank was full and onto hot exhaust pipes. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Gas tank rusted resulting in leakage.

I am filing this report on behalf of a family employee.the car was parked in our garage on two occasions.i smelled very strong gasoline fumes.when she took the car to a ford dealer she was told nothing was wrong.a local mechanic found the gas tank rusted through on the top of the tank.when he went to a wrecking yard to find a late model used tank, he found that the rust area was on all the used components.he replaced her tank with a new one and placed a protective patch over the area where a design flaw appears to allow water to puddle and corrode or rust the tank through on top.

While having pfe sensor replaced, it was noted that rear control arm and left rear corner of gas tank "badly rusted". Mechanic believes in part due to acidic water coming from drain hole of muffler. Rusting is so bad rear control arm looks charred. Mechanic also noted he had "never seen anything like this". Have been advised to do no long distance driving, that risk of fire is great and if control arm rusts further, risk of breaking away from wheel could cause accident.

A hole in the top of the gas tank spills out of the tank while driving causing fumes to enter cabin of vehicle resulting in driver feeling ill.the vehicles muffler frame experienced some rusting from the spillage.nlm

Hole due to rusted out tank, which could have caused a fire, also bar and brace on driver side which goes to the wheel near the gas tankrusted and needs replacing,.

In sept. An odor of gasoline was noted. Upon further investigation it was found that gasoline was seeping from an area on the upper back left hand corner of the tank where rust was occurring due to condensate from the condenstate vent hole in the exhaust being aimed at the upper left corner of the gas tank. In checking with used part companies this same rust pattern was showing on all tanks of this model and make. The rust was occurring from the outside in and gas seeping with no visible leakage occuring to have it register on the gas gauge. If odor had not been detected then there could have been an explosion if the car had been driven and a spark had occured. In nov. A break occurred with the left rear lower control arm where the same rust had formed due to this condensate being aimed at the control arm. The right control arm does not show this same problem. The placement of the gas tank with the condensate vent being aimed at these two critical parts appears to be a safety hazard. Have there been any other reports of this problem?

About 2 years ago the speedometer was replaced because the needle jumped back and forth. The problem is happening again with the speedometer that was replaced.

As i reported to ford the car downshifts while driving it is an automatic.the gas pedal then becomes hard to press down.the car makes a severe jerking motion making all passengers jolt severly.i have taken the car to 2 dealers including the orginal purchased dealer they all could find nothing wrong with the car.yet it continues this day to do the same thing.i am concerned about my daughter and hunsband and i and the saftey of this car.please help me with any information.sincerly karen martin.

My stepdaughter was driving. The electronic seatbelt tightened while driving and could not be released. She had difficulty moving her foot to shift the break pedal or movement of any type. The belt was locked and she was pinned to the seat while driving. It was choking her, also. When she was able to stop the car, she tried to open the door to release the seat belt, this only made it tighten more, she managed to remove a small nail knife from her purse to cut herself loose. We believe that the failure of a seat belt, including motorized restraint systems, should be fully supported by mandatory factory warrantees paid for by the manufacturer.ford motor company has refused repeated attempts to get reimbursement for the replacement of a motorized should belt restraint system.subsequently, we brought this complaint to the attention of senator john mccain, who recommended that we contact the national highway traffic and safety administration.we seek reimbursement for the $539, which we paid to have the ford dealer replace the should belt restraint system.r. The brakes have been replaced twice on vehicle,first at 2,000 miles than again at 32, 000.when pressing on the brakes there is pulsatiion/shaking and the back brakes grind and scrape.

I have replaced the brakes, caliper 3 times rotors 2 times and a mechanic can not find the problem the car does not stop well in heavy traffic constant grinding and squealing even after replacment there should have been a recall by now this has been a problem since ive had the car under warranty ford would never fix the problem they said there is nothing wrong.

There are some problems with steering gear and column because when consumerwas using the horn smoke came out and horn never worked again.on the other hand, the ignition switch worked sometimes, and it was not easy to get the key in.the dealer was not contacted.

Control arm failure.

Because of an extremely poor design the r. R. Control arm rusts through totally on the 1994 ford tempo. I believe this is caused by a poorly placed exhaust release perforation, designed into the muffler by the manufacturer. My control arm failed at 15 mph. I was advised by the mechanics that fixed it ($300 plus later) that a failure at highway speed would have been catastrophic for anyone in the vehicle at the time. I was also advised this is a common problem. I contacted ford months ago about this problem, they denied it was one.

While having pfe sensor replaced, it was noted that rear control arm and left rear corner of gas tank "badly rusted". Mechanic believes in part due to acidic water coming from drain hole of muffler. Rusting is so bad rear control arm looks charred. Mechanic also noted he had "never seen anything like this". Have been advised to do no long distance driving, that risk of fire is great and if control arm rusts further, risk of breaking away from wheel could cause accident.

Consumer reported a corroded and half way rustedrear contorl arm. Dealer mfr. Notified, and refused to correct the problem unless cost goed to consumer. Can nhtsa look into this matter.

When going at a speed of 25mphengine check light came on and then the car stalled in traffic and would not start for about an hour.this has happened several times leaving me stranded for an hour at a time.

The heater and air conditioner failed to work.this occurred after bringing car in for egr valve/evp sensor.i returned to the dealer, they said they didn't cause the problem when they turned off the heat.the heater was removed and the wire connectors in control head are melted.repair personjohn w romack said it woul d cost ~278.00 for new.checked out junk yard for another heater.while looking i found 4 other heaters with the same damage.i bought a used one in 1998, it stopped working 10/9/2000.when component was removed the same damage was found. A meltedheater control.(this appears to be a wiring problem.)

The wipers on my 94 ford tempo stop intermittently, then start a few seconds later.this is dangerous in heavy rain.

Windshield wiper blades were making noises. Took to the mechanic, and had to replace the motor.
