Clock spring activator - sensor unit failed again. Driver air bag light warning flashes code 32.original part replaced under warranty.this critical air bag part should not fail.ford motor told me to contact dealer.dealer said replacement not covered and to replace would be at my expense.this critical activation component is defective in design and should not fail.please advise if anything can be done to assist me and other drivers with the driver side air bag option on the 1993 ford tempo.thanks for you assistance.

While travling the airbag light was constantly flashing on andoff. Dealer said they would charge 75 dollars just to look at it. Consumer felt that airbag may not deploy in an accident.

The contact owns a 1993 ford tempo.the engine would not turn over, but when the key was slightly turned in the ignition, something electrical in the vehicle would start.when the contact changes the key slightly in the ignition, he loses all power and can hear an electrical spark as if it is attempting to make a connection.the vehicle goes from having no power to power, depending on the sparking.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on three different occasions for this failure.while attempting to repair the vehicle, the batteries have been replaced three times.a new battery was recently installed in the vehicle and the fuses were replaced on four occasions.in addition, the starter was replaced, the terminal cables were replaced three times, and the vehicle had more tune-ups than what was necessary in order to diagnose the failure.the contact was informed that his vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 96v071000 (electrical system: ignition).the current mileage was 108,000 and failure mileage was 40,000.

Fan motor over heats, makes a sound like something electrical is shorting out and smokes.has completely stopped working.we have have to replace the fuel injections sytem and the battery.the car shocks you eveytime you touch it.it feels like it is skipping gears when you turn also. We are constantly replacing something on it and it has become a real pain.

While driving vehicle at various speeds, vehicle would suddenly stall for no apparent reason. This happened at stop signs/ traffic lights,while turning corners and in traffic. Almost had an accident because of stalling.

My car keeps stalling & it also does not start when the engine is hot. This is an ongoing problem the dealer can never find the problem. Now there is a recall in ca on the 2 million cars from ford that does the same exact thing as mine does.

Windshield wiper motor: the original windshield wiper motor was replaced with a rebuit one since the original failed to operate on any of the intermittent settings. It would work on high and low only. The original motor was replaced with a rebuilt wiper motor and operated fine but made a loud noise. I had the rebuiltwiper motor replaced with another rebuilt wiper motor and have had it for 13-14 months. The wiper motor i have currently is now making the same noise as with the second wiper motor.it is still operational at this point on all settings.door locks:the power door locks have individually stopped working at different times. I used wd-40 on all of the locks and it has helped all but one (rear passenger side) that refuses to work when depressing the lock\unlock button. It will still work manually.revving of engine:the engine will rev very high when the car is placed in park. Pressing the brake or the gas pedal does not decrease the revving nor does lifting the gas pedal up. The only solution is to turn the car off and to turn it back on. This is tied to the car accelerating without pressing on the gas pedal. They both happened on the same brief trip (20 miles) but have also happened individually on separate occasions. The car accelerates slowly - approximately 1 mile per second - and will continue until about 40 - 50mph where its remains constant. No dealer has been able to determine the problem even after searching the cars computer for a stored code or cause. Ignition: the key has become stuck in the ignition on several occasions. The key will not come out because the ignition does not return back to the place where you can remove the key. To help clarify - it gets frozen in the postion where you would turn the key to roll the windows up/down but not start the car. I have had to move/jiggle it back and forth to get the igniton to return back to home state and to the position where i was able to remove the key.

The vehicle caught on fire while parked, the fire originated from the ignition.

Last summer i was driving my ford home from the grocery store.all of a sudden my car just died.i was close to home so i was able to coast it into my driveway.we didn't know what was wrong so we took it to a garage and had it looked at.they replaced my inertia switch.$204.84.a couple weeks later my car did the exact same thing.i had to have it towed then.i took it back to the same garage and they looked it over and couldn't figure out what was wrong.i figured out that it happened mostly when i turned my air conditioner on, and the engine got hot.so we have gone the last two summers without using my air conditioner for very long.i had no clue what was wrong until i recently saw things on the news about the tfi module in ford cars.what they are describing is exactly what is happening to my car.it has died on me three times this summer.once it was at a very busy intersection and i was scared to death.i couldn't get it started for almost 20 minutes.and it continued to die all the way home.i had to keep pulling off the road.i called ford and they took my info but have not contacted me yet.i would like to include my name in any actions taken against ford and add my name to the list of people with this problem that i would like fixed very soon!!thank you for any help.j. The contact owns a 1993 ford tempo. While driving approximately 35 to 40 mph on normal road conditions; the vehicle stalled without warning. The engine restarted and resumed operation; however, it stalled on three times. The vehicle was inspected by a certified mechanic. The failure was contributed to the ignition module which has not been repaired. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 96,000.

While vehicle was being driven on long trips, it just died. After sitting for about 30 minutesvehicle would start back up again. This has been an ongoing problem for the last six years. Dealership could never determine would caused thisproblem. Please provide any further information.

The vehicle has continually experienced stalling, usually in warm weather after 40 minutes of driving, ford has been unable to correct the stalling problems which is probably related to the ignition system. *mjs

Consumer states when weather is hot the engine will die out. Consumer states after vehicle has cooled down, consumer is able to restart. The consumer had module replaced as a possible solution of engine shutting off, but the problem reoccurred three times. The consumer stated the manufacturer was recalling other vehicles for the same problem.

Because i'm not the original owner they have refused to repair my car. I've put alot of money in my car and i'm still having problems with it. There is apparent fire damage under the dash and has caused eletrical problems within the car. There is smoke also visible every once in a while.

The ignition switch experienced an internal short circuit which resulted invehicle not starting. Recall 96v071000 was issued,but this vehicle was not included due to vin.

Engine stalls when driving at highway speed for about 45-60 minutes.loses power and after coming to a complete stop will not immediatley restart , or if it restarts runs rough with only enough power to get to a safe place to stop.this problem has occurred intermittently since we owned the car.ford dealers in puerto rico have investigated the problem without success.on one occasion the dealer replaced the cooling fan, believing the problem was cooling related.it still did not fix the problem.the local ford service manager only offers to drive the car to see if the problem reoccurs.the problem with this is it is such an intermittent problem there is little chance stalling will happen unless the car is driven at highway speed for nearly an hour.

Consumer experiencing problem with crankshakt: pulley makingnoises whenever vehicle is moving slow. Dealer/manufacturer have not been notified.

While driving at 25 mph, the vehicle started smoking under the hood. The consumer drove to a near-by mechanic, who disconnected the battery cables.the mechanic found that the motor mounts were worn, the engine needed to be rebuilt and the head gaskets were leaking. The speedometer was also inoperable.the dealer and the manufacturer will be informed of the problems.

Consumer on behalf of daughter.this vehicle was purchased for consumers daughter, who started hearing noises.a couple of repair shops agreed it was the crankshaft pulley.this repair was on recall and was repaired six years prior to the purchase of the vehicle.the vehicle was taken in for repairs.upon checking the vehicle, the mechanic, informed consumer that the water pump was bad.after repairing, the noise was still present.the mechanic changed the pulley at no cost to consumer.*jg

Major engine problem, initial observation would indicate a faulty intake or exhaust valve or spring. Dealer technician indicates that a normal internal engine component should last well over 50k miles. Engine makes loud noise and builds up a tremendous amount of pressure in the crankcase.

Engine noise due to failure of the harmonic balancer.

Harmonic balancer ( crankshaft pully) on the ford tempo is defective. The ford motor company is aware of the problem and refuses to recall the tempo or reimburse owners for the work that has to be done in order to have the vehicle work.

While driving vehicle stalls and loses power. Dealer has replaced the fuel pump . After the installation of the fuel pump the vehicle stalled and cut off.owner has contacted the manufacturer.

Car cuts off while i'm driving.this only happens in daytime when weather is very hot. I have to let the car sit about 20-30 minutes before it will start again.no problems at night, or early morning when it's cool.

Midas has repalced entire exhaust system from manifold pipe back. Still getting sick. Took car back to midas and discoverd that none of the clamps had been tightened. Midas fixed and sealed entire system. Still getting carbon monoxide inside car. Had firedepartment testagain, and still getting 30 and 40 parts per million reading's. Took car to ford dealer and had them test everything. Results according to them are everything is tight and not leaking. But they are at at aloss now. The service advisor tells me that i have a problem, and they cannot fix it. If the dealer cannot fix it then who can? i cannot drive the vehicle with carbon monoxide in it . People die! if i pass out, and cross the center line and hit sombody head-on , people will die. We have a potentially deadly problem here, and no one wants to do anything about it. I have done everything i can do at this point . Can anyone help?

Engine surges/bucks and stalls after several repair attempts.

Fan motor over heats, makes a sound like something electrical is shorting out and smokes.has completely stopped working.we have have to replace the fuel injections sytem and the battery.the car shocks you eveytime you touch it.it feels like it is skipping gears when you turn also. We are constantly replacing something on it and it has become a real pain.

The brackets that hold the gas tank up are corroded ,also the tank is leaking. Consumer states gas tank has rusted, the hinges on driver and passenger side were also found to be rusted, consumer contacted dealership and was told vehicle was out of warranty and consumer would be responsible for repairs, consumer received a call from delarship and was advised the repairs would be done free of charge.

When filling up the fuel tank, owner notices a fuel smell within the vehicle for about a day.afterwards, there will also be fuel on the ground. The dealer is not aware of the problem.consumer states that the tank was replaced, there was a hole which appeared to have rusted through near the top of the gas tank.

Intermitently random stalling. Car will not start for a few minutes. Then, everything seems okay, and car runs fine.consumer isoalted problem to fuel pump relay inside "constant control" relay box. Replacing this module completely corrected problem.you can isolate this problem by putting a volt-meter on input and output of relay. Then, when problem occurs, the input will be high (12v), but there will be no output from relay, proving bad relay. 4th failure of transmission mount...oem failed at 85,000 miles causing thump in reverse...no real hazard...three aftermarket mounts also sheared and the last one (m6056) sheared at bottom allowing transaxle to drop near touching the road surface. I lost a half shaft, set park condition as a result at 5mph, damaged left front half shaft and wedged the engine damper pullet to body wall. This will cost near $2500 fix. Ford should install a catch plate under the mount or a safety wire around the mount to prevent sudden drop of transaxle from rear while at highway speeds. This is potential killer and fatal defect. I am appalled at the design of such mount and the slant that ford puts it on (75 degrees) with no safety catch plate under it. This should be noted to ford and immediately disseminated!

Transmission mount has sheared 4 times since 85,000 miles each time resulting only in an annoying thunk going into reverse except this time when it sheared at bottom it allowed the transaxle to fall down 6 inches, forcing park while accelerating, jamming the crank pulley and ripping out the left half shaft. I am appalled that ford would not think of a catch plate to fit under the mount area forward and or a safety wire around the mount's two studs to disallow falling to the street level which it did at 5mph accelerating to a intersection. This is a killer flaw at highway speeds especially when you think of ripping out a half shaft at highway speeds and forcing park mode and jamming the crank pulley so,as to lose power steering and rpms. I really wish that ford would fix this car for free as it is inexcusable that i have had to change the transmission mount twice a year using aftermarket mfr for $35 when ford wants $91 for same and even the oem mount ripped at 85,000 miles..but ripped at the top area which was benign in symptoms. I am disgusted at this design...mount is fitted at 75 degrees angle and engine-transaxle has no safety catch plate or safety wire. Please note that sudden shear-tear of this liquid filled rubber mount is life-threatening in nature !!!

Windshield wiper motor: the original windshield wiper motor was replaced with a rebuit one since the original failed to operate on any of the intermittent settings. It would work on high and low only. The original motor was replaced with a rebuilt wiper motor and operated fine but made a loud noise. I had the rebuiltwiper motor replaced with another rebuilt wiper motor and have had it for 13-14 months. The wiper motor i have currently is now making the same noise as with the second wiper motor.it is still operational at this point on all settings.door locks:the power door locks have individually stopped working at different times. I used wd-40 on all of the locks and it has helped all but one (rear passenger side) that refuses to work when depressing the lock\unlock button. It will still work manually.revving of engine:the engine will rev very high when the car is placed in park. Pressing the brake or the gas pedal does not decrease the revving nor does lifting the gas pedal up. The only solution is to turn the car off and to turn it back on. This is tied to the car accelerating without pressing on the gas pedal. They both happened on the same brief trip (20 miles) but have also happened individually on separate occasions. The car accelerates slowly - approximately 1 mile per second - and will continue until about 40 - 50mph where its remains constant. No dealer has been able to determine the problem even after searching the cars computer for a stored code or cause. Ignition: the key has become stuck in the ignition on several occasions. The key will not come out because the ignition does not return back to the place where you can remove the key. To help clarify - it gets frozen in the postion where you would turn the key to roll the windows up/down but not start the car. I have had to move/jiggle it back and forth to get the igniton to return back to home state and to the position where i was able to remove the key.

Seatbelt (all) motor doesn't run and backseat stick, power locks only work when it warm, drivers side door doesn't work at all.camshaft pulley was recalled and supposedly fixed, just after warranty ran out it broke again.brakes go out ever six month, replaced waterpump twice, idle pulley, fan motor and the lower front ball joints, starter, alternator, battery twice, entire muffler system 3 times, bar that goes across the front by the wheels, blower motor chrips and squeeks at low blowing speeds, replace muffler heat shields and there still is clanging noise in the front crankshaft, also replaced motor mounts, should have kept the beater it was much cheaper.

The brackets that hold the gas tank up are corroded ,also the tank is leaking. Consumer states gas tank has rusted, the hinges on driver and passenger side were also found to be rusted, consumer contacted dealership and was told vehicle was out of warranty and consumer would be responsible for repairs, consumer received a call from delarship and was advised the repairs would be done free of charge.

Door is falling off due to pillar rusting around the hinge.

Hearing a thump in the rear but was not aware where noise could have been.vehicle was going 25mph and felt like had no stability control. Dealer was notified. While trying to avoid accident consumer hit brakes and stabilizer link failed.*yd

The left rear trailing arm snapped into and the vehicle spun around and went out of control; managed to steer the vehicle to the side of the road.

Left rear trailing arm failed because of corrosion--due to exhaust condensate from muffler bleed.

The right front tire experienced a blow out.the left front tire had split apart.the consumer found that the tire which was sold to her new was plugged prior to incident.*scc

Check engine light remains on. Consumer continuously has to replace brakes. Also vehicle hydroplanes at slightest acceleration when the roads are wet.

Michelin replacement tires size p18570r14, dot number not available. Tires had less then six thousand miles on them andfront right passenger's side tire exploded at sidewall area. Also,replacement tire with less than one thousand milesexploded when driving at 30-35 mph.

Vehicle was stalling in hot weather/ 80-100 degrees.engine check light came on. Consumer able to stop vehiclewith emergency brake.

I have made about $10000 repair and it is in the shop @ least 1 month. I am very unsatisfied with the response i have gotton with ford. Recalls have been done and i still have lots of problems. No safety defect mentione din summary.

While driving at 25 mph, the vehicle started smoking under the hood. The consumer drove to a near-by mechanic, who disconnected the battery cables.the mechanic found that the motor mounts were worn, the engine needed to be rebuilt and the head gaskets were leaking. The speedometer was also inoperable.the dealer and the manufacturer will be informed of the problems.

Second occurrence, when driving floor mat obstructed accelerator pedal, causing suddenly unintentional acceleration, pedal became stuck underneath floor mat, as result speed increased from 50-75mph, front seat passenger had to reach down to pull up pedal.

Engine warning light illuminated.

Went to pass another vehicle, accelerated to (70) mph and gas pedal stuck at (70), had to ride brakes to slow down vehicle. Pumped the gas pedal to stop.

After viewing dateline feb. 10, 1999, i realized what had been happening to my car when the accelerator sticks down.i checked with the dealer and they told me the dash mat had slipped under the gas pedal.well i removed the mat and the same thing happened, both to me and my daughter who was terrified.i cannot stop the car with both feet on the brake and must shut off the car even if in traffice.ihave contacted both ford and my local distributorship and they both claim there is nothing wrong.they will be happy to inspect the system, but because there is no recall, i have to pay for the entire inspection.they told me that unless the natsa orders a recall, nothing can be done.i find it incomprehensible that ford would not order their own recall to protect their customers even after their own engineers have diagnosed the problem.anyway, please order the recall - it seems the only way to save lives of peopl e who own or ride in these cars.thank you.

The heater panel got so hot it melted the controls. Please describe.

Purchased car used,the rear passenger side power window stopped working and locked the door , can't open from inside and outside . Please describe.

Without warning, rear power window came up pinning my wifes arm between glass and top of door. We were unable to stop window from continuing to try to close. We turned the car off at this point, but it continued to rise,finally after about 10 minutes of trying to release the window my wife was in such pain that i was forced to bend the window and it shattered releasing her arm. She went to the emergency room where she was diagnosed with a bad sprain. I thank god that i was there to help and that my seven year old daughter was not there at the time as she always sits in her car seat in the rear seat. Thank you.

Rear windshield shattered unexpectedly which may have caused injuries.cause unknown.please provide further information.

Windshield wiper motor: the original windshield wiper motor was replaced with a rebuit one since the original failed to operate on any of the intermittent settings. It would work on high and low only. The original motor was replaced with a rebuilt wiper motor and operated fine but made a loud noise. I had the rebuiltwiper motor replaced with another rebuilt wiper motor and have had it for 13-14 months. The wiper motor i have currently is now making the same noise as with the second wiper motor.it is still operational at this point on all settings.door locks:the power door locks have individually stopped working at different times. I used wd-40 on all of the locks and it has helped all but one (rear passenger side) that refuses to work when depressing the lock\unlock button. It will still work manually.revving of engine:the engine will rev very high when the car is placed in park. Pressing the brake or the gas pedal does not decrease the revving nor does lifting the gas pedal up. The only solution is to turn the car off and to turn it back on. This is tied to the car accelerating without pressing on the gas pedal. They both happened on the same brief trip (20 miles) but have also happened individually on separate occasions. The car accelerates slowly - approximately 1 mile per second - and will continue until about 40 - 50mph where its remains constant. No dealer has been able to determine the problem even after searching the cars computer for a stored code or cause. Ignition: the key has become stuck in the ignition on several occasions. The key will not come out because the ignition does not return back to the place where you can remove the key. To help clarify - it gets frozen in the postion where you would turn the key to roll the windows up/down but not start the car. I have had to move/jiggle it back and forth to get the igniton to return back to home state and to the position where i was able to remove the key.

Windshield washer failed causing poor visibility.
