Owner states that his electrical system has problems, dashboard light goes out and that dealer replaced assembly but he is still having a problems.

Dealer is saying that recall was fixed (3 times) so no "recall" exists but i believe this is an ongoing and very dangerous problem.i gave this car to my daughter in january, 2000 and she has experienced a total electrical outage twice and has been stopped by the police on both ocassions.there are 4 other recalls on this vehicle that have never been fixed and i would like to have them fixed immediately without any hassle from a ford dealership.

Panel lights surge and come on after the key has been removed and no one is in car, causing the battery to go dead.

Car had been parked in my driveway for five days without use. About 9:00am i moved the car and parked it in the street in front of my house. There was no indication of any problem of any kind. About 45 min. Later i was alerted to the sound of a car horn and found the fords horn was honking. When i opened the door to attempt to pull the lever to open the hood there was smoke in the car and a small flame on the left lower corner of the cash. I went to get a fire extinguisher and phoned 911, was gone maybe 30 seconds and when i returned the dash was fully aflame. I then dragged my hose out and by the time @45 seconds later i got the water on, the passenger compartment was fully engulfed. After about 7 min. Of me putting water on the fire and it about 90% out the fire department showed up and finished putting it out. The only problems the car had before was the interior lights had quit working from the door in july but still worked from the headlight switch. About a year and a half ago the fuse that fed the radio among other things had blown but when replaced with the same 15amp fuse all had been ok.

Engine check light comes on, and all components go dead. Took to dealer, and they said the next time engine check light comes on, don't turn off the key. This happened on the 13th of july.dealer said part was not available, consumer has been out of a vehicle since.

After replacing the transmission because the cylinder broke in half my electrical system isn't working.nobody can find the problem.

On two occasions while driving long distance, vehicle would cut off at highway speed of 55-65 mph. Vehicle was inspected by a repair shop and a dealer. Neither could duplicate problem. Battery light illuminates.oil light illuminates.

While driving vehicle about (20-30) mph in rush hour traffic the vehicleslowed down suddenly and came to a complete stopbecause of the melting of the alternator. The alternator was replaced.

Blown engine head gasket/4 motor mounts broke, and alternator malfunctioned.

My car stallsor just stops in the middle of traffic, it will go from 60mph to 0mph.this has happened over 20 times.i took it to peffley ford for repairs, they charged me $669.36 and 6 days later my car cut out on me again and they towed it to their shop.they refused to look at my car without me paying more money for repairs and the tow truck.i have spent thousands of dollars on repairs for my car and i fear for my life every time i get into that car.i never know when it will cut out and i can't afford to buy a new car.i found out that 8 people owned that car before me, when i bought the car, the salesperson said that it would be safe for my two young girls to ride in he was wrong.i have all of my supporting documentation and will send copies to you. Please do something before one or all of my family end up injured or dead.thanking you in advance, karen judkins.

The vehicle's horn design is poor in the location, and the amount of pressure needed to operate is above normal due to the airbag placement and design.

Engine failure - driving on 4 lane highway, car stalled - after several different attempts to find problem, problem was found.the problem was that the teeth on the gear on the bottom of the distributor had broken off.this type of stress failure should not have occurred.the ford company had been notified and would not consider any resolution to this problem being outside the manufacturer's warranty. The other problem that occurred was that the speedodometer had begun to fail.... Going from zero to 60 and back after about 5 minutes of driving. A speed sensor had failed. The car was also doing a hard jerking at about 35 miles per hour. Ford dealership had told me that the problem was that 2 of the automatic transmission gears were bad and we had them replaced. I contacted the dealership because i had found out ford had many (i mean many) problems with this same problem in all the ford taurus vehicles. Still the dealership ford company would do nothing including filing this complaint stating it was outside the warranty.i believe that ford should have backed some it not all of this up considering the mileage and problem history of this vehicle.distributer gears should have never broken off unless the metal compound had been defective.

Vehicle cuts off mainly insummer whenair conditioning is on. Intermittently with cooler weather vehicle also cuts off.very hazardous in fast traffic.mechanics tried to replace various parts, but couldn't find a remedy.

Ongoing / intermittent problem with engine stalling while pulling intostreet. Vehicle beenin dealer's shop on four occasions, andproblem still occurring. Please feel free to provide any further details.

Ive had the ignition module changed 4x... The car continues to stall in the worse circumstances.....i have escaped rear end collisions so far.....the engine cuts out with no warning.....even at speeds 65 mph on a highway...ive had 18 wheelers come right up on me when the car would stall...this isa serious safety issue....since the report last week i realize what the problem is and whyso many ignition modules have changed......the modular it self has been placed in the wrong place in the car.........i hope these cars will be recalled and fixed......

Thinks automobile is a lemon because it stops in traffic creating a dangerous situation.tt

When vehicle is driven for long periods of time and coming to a stopvehicle will stall out and die.the dealer has been notified.

My family and i were on our way to colorado last memorial day weekend and we live in nebraska. As we got closer to thedenver region we started having problems with the car stalling. It was a very hot day and i was running the a/c also. So eventually it would cool after about an hour but would only run for a 10-15 miles further down the road. It did get worse the closed we got to the higher altitude parts of denver. The trip would have been great if this problem would not have occured. I have no problems with the car here where i live but i am affraid to drive it out of state again and i bought the car because of the high quality of standards it has set. Please help me in any way to fix the issue. Thank you.

Camshaft and distributor need to be replaced with out prior warning.

My daughter 8 yrs. And myself were hurt in this accident, my medical bills are over $6,000 to date and ongoing medical serious problems including rsd disease spreading thru back leg's, big lump in back causing non stop pain..looking for attorney now..injury is permanant, will need pain medication the rest of my life..i am very angry and i am thinking about calling local news channel to inform other people with a ford tauras to be careful with this model..i am now disabled and very angry, this was a very safe car i thought.. I will talk to someone from ford before i hire an attorney..i want my medical paid for plus the cost of this car that ruined my life, i would rather not have to go thru court.

In regard to the california judges recall order regarding the engine stall of these vehicle i'm a walking testament that there is a problem with these modules, i was on the freeway in stop and go rush hour traffic whenwithout any warningthe car just stopped. My family could of been killed.i believe ford is aware of the problem , i also believe it is probably a simple fix to the solution, but that ford will not own up to it and so that means l will end up paying top dollar to have the module replaced,to insure my family's safety, but ireplacing the module is notthe answer.the module should be moved and remounted to a safer and cooler place in the engine. A quick $4.00 fix . Ford should offer to do this , but instead they will wait till there have been many accidents and fatalities. Before admitting fault.

The stalling of my ford had endangered my family on a june vacation trip to san diego.the engine stalled entirely without warning.i was successful in driving the car onto the shoulder of the road, where we were to become the victims of the summer heat.repeated efforts to get the car going were unsuccessful.we were towed to gila bend, az where a mechanic looked at the car the next morning.the problem could not be duplicated at that time.at that time i was not even aware of a design problem with this vehicle.until this defect is addressed, this vehicle is a danger to my family and the vehicle behind me.

Prior to recall the ignition switch malfunctioned, the ignition jams and would not release the key causing short in electrical system (96v-071). Yh

When temperature approaches 100 degrees and vehicle has been driven at road speeds approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours vehicle ignition stalls and engine dies.the engine will not restart until the vehicle cools for approximately 15-20 minutes.if vehicle is driven at moderate speeds, 50-55 mph it does not stall again.first two incidents occurred when vehicle was at idle and beginning accelerating.last incident occurred at road speed in interstate traffic.mechanics at local service station and ford dealer unable to determine cause. It is very unsafe to operate this vehicle when climate conditions exceed 95 degrees until this problem corrected.

Please ask ford motor co. To recall their vehicles with the distributor mounted ignition module.my wife and i purchased a 1994 taurus from my mother three years ago.at that time the car had 14,000 miles on the odometer.in the past three years we have had trouble with our taurus stalling while we were driving for no apparent reason.we took our car to several mechanics in the past three years trying to find a solution to our problem.nothing that we had done ever seemed to fix the problem.finally, this past summer in the hot texas heat the problem became too much to bear.we took our taurus to our local dealership--brinson ford in corsicana, texas.we thought that surely the dealorship mechanics would be able to diagnose our problem.the dealorship told us that they felt our fuel pump was not working correctly.they told us that our pump would probably not last much longer.i questioned their diagnosis since we have had the problem for 80,000 miles.we paid $556 and the problem persisted.for the past three years we have noticed that the problem lessens as the temperatures drop.i am convinced that california supreme court judge michael ballachey has hit the nail on the head.this is a situation involving "concealment of dangerous conditions."

Intermittentlyvehicle stallsand dies without warning. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and was not able to duplicate or correct the problem.the dealer could not duplicate the problem but the customer believes the problem is caused by ignition system module.

My taurus stops running within ten minutes of being put into overdrive or on cruise control.it also stops running in hot climates.i have no warning to when the vehicle will stop and i must navigate to the side of the highway.dealor mechanic suggested it was my transmission.i beleive it to be the same problem the cars in ca are being recalled for.thank you.

The contact owns a 1994 ford taurus. The contact stated that the engine and transmission failed. The contact started the vehicle and both the engine and the transmission collapsed. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 93v106000 (structure:frame and members) and contacted the dealer. The dealer advised the contact that his vin was not included in the recall campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they filed a complaint on the contact's behalf. The failure mileage was 155,000.

I just got off the telephone with ford corp.,~ i have inherited a 1994 taurus from my grandmother, who took excellent care of it and it only has 88,000 original miles ~ the day after thanksgiving, the head gasket blew & the exhaust started pouring out thick smoke, i was able to get to a safe location immediately, but i look under the car and there were all different color fluids coming out. Back in 1999 there was a letter sent to mr. William clay ford relating to this issue ~ a vehicle that has been so well kept and not even have passed 100k miles... This malfunction of ford, should be fixed and honored at all costs and now i am looking at a bill of $2300.00 to get this fixed ~ when if it would have been built right from the beginning this issue would have never happened.i am asking for help of program 98m01 ~ this extension is mandatory for i am a single mother / driver of a ford vehicle ~ it's the american way...... Right???? mr. William clay ford ~ get me back into a safe vehicle.

Transmission feels like it's slipping out of gear when coming to a stop forward and reverse engagement delay

Milage:136000kmproblem:blown head gasket and transmission problems such as slipping/grinding from a stop or accellerating after rounding a corner.estimated cost:$4000.00

The head gasket failed, which caused the vehicle to overheat.

1994 ford taurus 3.8 l ...head gasket failure at 69,000 miles, warranty recall and engine replaced approx june 2000.now at 130,000 miles, 60,000 miles and 3-1/2 years on the new engine, i againhave a cracked hg, this time with combustion gases in the coolant.ford tells me the new engine had a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty just like all ford parts.but this is not a starter or alternator, this is the entire engine, the bulk of the value of the car.i can't be sure if the replacement engine had the new improved gasket and longer bolts, or if it was off the shelf 3.8 with admittedly faulty gasket.gases force coolant out the overflow.the car overheats very rapidly, the needle can move from "normal" to red line in 10 seconds and i have to pull over and shut it off.i spend more time looking at the temp gauge than the road in front of me, and often i have to pull over with very little notice, on the freeway in heavy traffic.i think you should be able to get more than 60,000 miles and 3-1/2 years on a ford motor company engine. I can't even sell or trade this car in, it's value has dropped to nothing.

Head gasket failure.

Dt: the vehicle has had a problem with the engine dying. The engine blew ahead gasket. A recall has been issued. The engine was replaced, and the new engine alsoblew out at 97,000 miles. The vehicle was having a fluctuation in temperature.then , ford was contacted, and ford said they could not help.

While driving at approx. 35 mph, i noticed the coolant temperaure had shot up to the red zone.as soon as this happened, it immediately went back down to the midrange of the temperature gauge and stayed there for approx. 10 miles.i checked the anti-freeze at a gas station and it seemed to be full.i parked the car and let it cool for about three hours.i began my drive home and the temp. Stayed in the midrange of the gauge for about 20 miles and then shot up to the red zone.it hovered there about 1 minute and then shot back down to the mid range.i parked the vehicle in my garage.the next morning, i started it up and drove about 1/4 mile and white smoke began pouring from the tailpipe.the smoke smelled like anti-freeze.i returned home and had the vehicle towed to a repair shop.previously, ford had sent me a letter detailing the defect and offering a warranty extension to 100,000 miles.however, i was already past 100,000 miles when they sent the letter.can they be forced to cover some or all of the cost of replacing the head gasket?the car failed only two months after i made the last payment to ford credit corporation.can you help me?

No heat; temp guage problems.called ford and they said they would not cover.we were never notified of recall. Car boughtfrom an individual not a dealer.so maybe that is why we never received a recall. Apparently this problem is a common one. (tiresize: 15)( dot number:tire size: 15 )

Problem is that 18 months and 38000 kilometers later the head gasket has gone again.

Vehicle has experienced several engine cooling problems, water pump replaced due to a coolant leak, vehicle was overheating, coolant contained 180/220 ppm of carbon monoxide, head gasket problem, thermostat leak, cracked serpentine belt, oil sensor leak, radiator leak, front cover gasket was leaking coolant, consumer feels these problems are caused by the failure of the head gasket and feels that all problems should have been covered under warranty.

Have fix so many things on this can and is still not trustworthy to make any trips except to the grocery store. Transmission is dangerous on the highway

Approaching highway on ramp, engine temp went from "n" too red box at right of gauge. Drove to dealer, informed most likely a "head gasket" problem and may have damaged engine, no way to know if engine is damaged unitll repair is attempted.

All problems with our 1994 taurus have existed since the purchase date, ford has denied several of the recalls and service bulletins listed at nhtsa. The car continues to constantly overheat and run hot, we still can smell gas through vents, door handle problems, gas consumption problem, and several others still exist without acknowledgement from ford (even when confronted with exact numbers and dates of recalls and bulletins), all problems still exist without help from ford. Fords customer concern, customer service and quality in general is severely lacking. We are tired of runarounds, tired of denials related to these problems, tired of ford denying that we have made previous complaints, tired of ford refusing to provide paper work the few times they had the vehichle. Tired of this scary lemon we own, tired of ford in general.

Cost to repair $1800. No safety defect listed in summary.

1) at highway speeds there is very rapid and sudden loss of coolant, the resulting engine stoppage and the thick clouds of steam would have been a serious hazard. 2)ford sent a letter dated "june, 1998" advising of a free repair for this defect if it occurred within the 60,000mi/5yr powertrain warranty period or of the defect happened regardless of mileage by december 31, 1998. This defect poses a real danger and ford should not have a cut-off date on the repair.

I purchased the vehicle may 13, 1999 from sanger ford in sanger california, 93657.on october 29,1999 the cars engine blew up due to a patched up water pump that came from sanger ford like this when i purchased it.the water pump was full of stop leak, which would explain why the car seemed to run a little warm.when the water pump went out on the car, it broke off inside for whatever reason and when this happened, it tore hell out of the engine.the engine did not blow due to it over heating, the engine blew due to the damage done by the water pump.i could not get any help from the dealer or the finance company.but i sure had to mail in that payment every month.it took all the money i had and could borrow and 5 and 1/2 months later to have my car repaired.i am a single mother of 4 children and a car is very much needed.i thought i had bought a car i could depend on and trust to transport my daughters in, but was wrong.i also during this down time received 2 or more recall notices for the vehicle that had been issued prior to the sell of the car to myself.so, the dealer sold me a car without doing the proper repairs brought on by the recalls.so, what else did they get away with???? i will continue to search for help in recovering my loses due to the of professionalism by this company.any help you can give me on this matter i could really use.thank you, brandee bridges 06-17-00.

I was told that the water pump busted, i need a thermostat, and that my gears (linkage) want shift.

Vehicle is overheating and constantly leaking anti-freeze and oil. Cause of leak unknown. The dealership replaced the radiator but theproblem still occurs.then the dealership replaced the head gasketand the over heating stopped. Please provide more details. Ts

Sudden failure of head gasket which also caused failures of both o2 sensors, timing cover gasket, radiator, and water pump.the head gasket caused a sudden failure which left my family and i stranded for a short time on the side of interstate 75 south of corbin, ky (very dangerous place for a breakdown).the initial head gasket failure caused a massive leakage of coolant through the cylinders and out the exhaust which caused both oxygen sensors to fail (engine light came on).in addition, head gasket failure caused engine to overheat and also opened up the cooling system to being pounded by the pressure of the combustion chamber (failed gasket opened up an abnormal path between combustion cylinders and cooling system) - this resulted in cooling leakage failure in the radiator, water pump, and timing cover gasket.these are expensive failures that appear to be very common to ford's 3.8l v6 engine (head gasket failures) which is also used in their sable, windstar, continental, and mustang.ford is not taking responsibility for my failure and yet it is a design problem that nhtsa's own site shows over 150 failures for the windstar alone (same engine).ford needs to issue a safety recall on this issue - it was certainly a safety related failure in my case.

Cylinder head and water pump failed while driving.

Same problem exists with my 1995 windstar, vin# [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle overheats within 5-30 minutes of operation.i had the waterpump replaced at 87,000 miles then had the thermostat relaced 2 weeks later.i still have problems with the vehicle overheating then cooling down ever time i operate the vehicle.i had the radiator test and found on problems with this units operation.

Anti-freeze. Leakgot into the engine. Took to dealer, and they said that the engine needed to be replaced.problem was occurring while engine was under warranty.but, at the time dealer could not find the problem. It wasn't until after warranty expired that they found it was an engine problem.leak could have caused a fire.

While driving at 60 mph, consumer states vehicle engine suddenly died out. Please provide any further information. Ts

Although car has never actually overheated, it runs very hot.it loses alot of water (overflow will be empty every 3 days or less) but there is no leak.took it in for a tuneup and was told the head gaskets were blown.called around and was told there was a recall on engine.called dealer.they kept it for 3 days and told us it was not the engine, but the water pump.they refused to fix or replace engine even though under recall.called ford motor customer service department.was told "we stand behind our certified techs"and they will do nothing.engine is under recall for another 1,000 miles, but ford is refusing to fix due to rusty's saying it is not the head gaskets.had it looked at at a third place and they say the water pump is fine.they could not locate the problem, but car is still losing fluid and you can watch the temp guage rise very quickly as you are driving.does a recall mean that they have to replace the engine, or is it only if i have problems?i was told by rusty's that if someone else says the head gaskets are blown, they will have to prove it.i have been told this is impossible without tearing the engine apart.help!!!

Auxiliary engine cooling system occasionally causes engine to stall, causing failure of all power assisted functions. *dh

1988-1993 ford has recalled motor/engine mounts on all 3.8 l engines installed in taurus, sable, & continental, problem still persists in 94 model but ford will not cover repair. 3.8l engine not offered in these autos after 95.when timing chain cover gasket failed cover could not be removed, was broken off, losing water pump in process, no coverage from ford. At same time head gaskets replaced at ford expense. Engine failed two weeks later, ford installed short bloc replacement.

Excessive loss of coolant, no sign of leakages. Dealer notified, and was unable to locatecause. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Car was taken to the dealer on 09/09/1999 when problem detected in starting the car. Upon attempting to start the engine, engine will crank and start but it stalled when key spring was let go at random basis. Dealer claimed to find the problem and replaced multifuction sw and ignition switch, and replaced battery and cleaned the terminals.this cost me $474 and the problem was not fixed. The car was taken back to the dealer on 09/13/1999. On 09/20/1999 dealer claimed that they found the problem and it was just the adjustment in safety switch. Dealer claimed that they fixed the problem. After that the problem did not go away and continue to happen on random basis. The dealer was contacted and dealer indicated that they will call me back when they are ready to fix this. As of 11/22/1999 i have not heard from fullerton ford dealer. The problem is worse now and i can not even start the car. So i calledford customer assistance at 1-800-392-3673 and spoke with duane. I told him that dealership has unsuccessfully attempted to fix the problem. I described the car problem. I asked that ford motor company help dealer to identify and fix the problem since dealer was unsuccessful in fixing the problem and they don't seem to know what the problem is. Duane replied that only dealer is authorized to fix the problem, i should take my car back to the dealer and there is nothing ford motor comapny can do for me. I asked duane that what is the point in taking car back to the ford dealer when after two unsuccessful attempts they have not fixed. Duane repeated the earlier statement of taking car back to the dealer and that there is nothing ford motor co. Can do. As far as the cooling system goes, i asked the fullerton ford dealer to check the leaking coolant on 05/17/1999. They conducted pressure test and replaced coolant and told me that there is no leak. However as of 11/26/99 it still leaks upon starting the car near radiator.

The main failure that i'm interested in reporting is the engine cooling system (failure of head gasket).i have added the 3 failures of the air conditioning system since i feel one of these failures may have caused the already defective head gasket to become even more prone to failure.1st a/c failure in march 98 was for accumulator hose had a hole in it.2nd a/c failure in may99 coil-pulley-clutch assy had to be replaced.in july 99all the hoses including heater hose and the manifold-intake lower were replaced.when i drove the car home from this repair a small amount of smoke came thru the vents into the car and there was a strange odor.i called the garage and reported this they said, " some of the antifreeze must have got onto the engine and not to worry".fifteen days later on 16july19 the smoke started pouring out of the vents again.this is the 3rd a/c which was for a core heater assy.i think that this cause a overheating of the engine and further damaged the already defective head gaskets (to be far this is only a guess on my part since the temp. Indicator never got in the red area.also i should mention that the day after all the hoses were changed i had to return the car since there was antifreeze on my garage floor cause my a clamp not being install correctly.the on 14dec99 the car started overheating, i checked the overflow antifreeze area added antifreeze and took the car to the dealer.they did a pressure test and found a bad hose and replaced it.on 21dec99 engine overheating again.put more antifreeze in took the car to the dealer.first they called and said""it was the thermostat."then the next day they said, "blown head gasket".i think all this overheading didn't help the head gasket but i really think fold should be responsible and made to replace these head gaskets free even though the extended warrenty period on the recall has passed.the recall was not clearly witten.

My car has been running hot off & on for over a year. Have takenit back to the dealer thought the problem was corrected, but not so. Took car to another machanic, they put a new radiator in that cost 600.+ the car ran hot. A week later, took it to another machanic. He found out it was a blown head gasket. I called lewis for and because it happened 10 days after the expiration on the recall, the would not fix it. I spent another 1100.00 to have this fixed. I can not afford to pay what the ford dealers charge per hour. Therefore did not take my car to them. I have had my car in the shop so many times and it makes me mad. Now i'm stuck with this car that has 5 recalls on it. It is a pain to try and find rides back & fourth to work, as well as getting my son to school, as they do not provide a loaner car. It is not my fault they could not build this car correctly, but still put it out there and sell them. I think it is very unfair to make us pay the price, and i will never own another ford and will discourage anyone else from purchasing one.

I was driving at about 55 mph when i noticed that my temperature guage had jumped all the way to hot.i proceeded to drive the mile and a half to my house.at a red light my car was making a slight knocking sound.my husband found the radiator empty and tried to fill it again with one gallon anti-freeze and one gallon water.he started the engine and large amounts of smoke came out from the tail pipe and the engine and the exhaust pipe and water was dripping underneath the exhaust.we had a professional mechanic look at itand he diagnosed it as being a blown head gasket.

Bearings and connecting rods damaged. Dealer serviced engine one week prior. Replace gaskets and thermostat. Ford issued engine recall notice june 1998 for engine overheating that could cause head gasket failure. Head gaskets need to be replaced twice

My taurus had a head gasket fail and now i'm told that because it's 594 miles over the 100,000 limit i'll have to pay to have it repaired. The vehicle is in excellent condition and was previously dealer maintaned at another dealer ship about 50 miles from here by the previous owner.the service manager at ashley ford in new bedford has been helpful but says his hands are tied and that it was ford's decision to make not his he had contacted the local ford rep. But was so far only able to get me a 30% discount . I've felt all along that ford should repair this at no cost to me because this is obviouslly a problem exclusively to the 3.8 ford engine or ever car on the roads head gaskets would be failing . When i spoke to the ford rep at the 800 # (1-800-392-3673) elaine she wasn't helpful at all and seemed mad at me for trying to get some help with this problem , like it was my fault .i've told the manager bruce that at this point i'ld be willing to pay 20% of the cost to repair just so we can get our car back we're paying a loan on this car and can't even use it . I've had many fords in the past and have never needed dealer assistants like this before and feel that 594 miles over the 100,000 mile limit shouln't justifie ford's refusal to stand behind thier product and not fix our car.any help you can give us would be appreciated , thank you , sincerelyjohn & sharon dolman

While driving at 35 mph the engine head gasket blew out, and threi was smoke coming from the exhaust system.

The city acatuall disposed of this vehicle because of continuing overheatring of the engine.it could not be diagnosed as head gasket problem, but after research and recent publicity, i am confident that was the problem.ford should be held responsible for the loss of this poor vehicle.

The vehicle developed overheating symptoms. I took it to the ford dealer for inspection and found out that the timing case gasket was leaking and it might damage the engine, which already had devloped knocking noises. I contacted the ford customer service and asked them for warranty coverage, since it was out of my reach to repair/install a new engine. Ford company which then was sending letters for free change of head gaskets which could produce the same problems as mine. But my request went in a vain. Now the vehicle has completely stopped operation since the water has mixed with the engine oil. This seems to be a manufacturing defect and hence i appeal that nhtsa should respond to this in a better manner. Thanking you.

The engine began stalling in 1999 and the problem continues to this day...i suspect the engine control module as it was a common failure from what i have learned.i do not know of a recall however.i took the car in to the dealer here in fremont as it seemed to be overheating and he said it was probably a blown headgasket as it was a recall problem.my car was past the 7 year limit by two months however.at this time the air conditioner has also quit.needless to say ford has lost my business forever.i couldn't believe the number of complaints i found on your sight .many of them seemed to be the same problems i have been experiencing.ford should monitor this list and they could see where the flaws were in this model if they cared.excellent sight which i will scan before buying my next vehicle. I initially had problems w/ the head gaskets on this vehicle.there was a recall issued and it took two different dealerships on two separate occasions to fix this problem.finally after 2 months of waiting without a vehicle the problem was resolved, at no cost to me.however, upon getting the car back i began experiencing problems with the vehicle dying while in full motion, irregardless of speed traveling.i have taken the car back to the dealership on 7 separate occasions for a period of 6 months to get this resolved and have yet to only get the run around.last night, on the way home from work my car stalled once again.i do not work in a pleasant area of chattanooga and as i was walking to find a pay phone, i was accosted by an individual with a gun who was threatening to rob me and beat me down.i fled from the situation praying for my life and somehow made it away safely.i am now however at the breaking point with this fuel problem with this taurus.i have found information concerning a ruling by california state superior court judge michael ballachey, ordering a recall on cars with this problem.ballachey states that ford has sold as many as 23 million vehicles with this flaw.the court also ruled that ford has known about this problem since 1982-these vehicles stall, especially when the engine is hot.this means intensified danger with my personal vehicle because the engine was prone the overheat frequently, because the head gaskets are aluminum (another manufacturers problem with this make and model).i contacted ford headquarters (1-800-392-3673) and was told that the judge has no authority to recall the vehicles and that there was nothing that they could do to help me.the local ford dealership, mtn. View ford, that has made the numerous repairs upon my vehicle claims no responsibility for this problem either.owner david watson didn't admit knowledge of this recurring problem. Help please.

I am reporting this because i don't feel i should be penalized for a faulty headgasket being put in the vehicle.i have to pay because i drive carefully and mostly highway miles and was able to keep the part working until i was over the mileage mark.secondly i was not informed when the 7/98 notice came out so i could not have the vehicle checked out.i moved here in july of 1998.ending the plan 5 months later before i could even get to a garage to find out was not the best option either.a faulty part is a faulty part.i should not have to pay for ford's attempt to save a buck or two.

The head gaskets were defective.repaired and defective a second time.the engine block was found to be cracked.ford motor finally accepted responsibility in the form of fixing it at no cost.however, 2.5 months later the water pump, radiator and motor mounts all failed.ford refused to assist in paying for the pump and radiator.then refused to fix the motor mounts.i went to three garages who indicated to me that when major engine work is done ($4,300 worth - engine blocks replaced) they should have fixed the other items also as they work closely together.water pump and radiator approx. $800 and motor mounts approx $300.

Gaskets being used to repair the failed gaskets on the 3.8l engineer are also failing.

Vehicle would make noises while driving. Took vehicle to dealer. Transmission was dead & needed water. Also, water pump& engine head gasket needed replacing. Service bulletin #98mo1 for head gasket.

Head gaskets have blown twice, now the intake manifold gasket is leaking and there is a tiny knock in the engine, mechanic stated that the crankshaft and rod bearings needed replaced due to glycol in the antifreeze that had leaked into the crankcase, this had happened because of the previous faulty head gaskets, consumer feels ford should pay for the problem.

On 7/24/00 i took my car to tulsa auto collection quality care facility at 11122 east 71st streettulsa, ok. (918-250-3555) to have my a/c system repaired, as it was working just fine the day before.tom, the mechanic who inspected my car, stated that the motor mounts had failed, which resulted in engine vibration.the vibration was hard enough to cause a rupture in a a/c line, which in turn caused a complete a/c system failure.a major leak was found at the high pressure line to condensor.will require manifold hose replacement. Will also need new filter dryer hose assembly, since system has been exposed to air. Replace estimated repairs $625.also motor mounts are bad and must be replaced before any a/c work is performed.estimated motor mount replace $450-$600.now, since it is getting cold, i have found that my heater is not working.possibly as a result of the rupture in the a/c lines.i am asking that ford kindly repair my car because i have seen at nthsa's web site many complaints that people have made about problem motor mounts over the span of several years.i have talked to ford and they refuse to repair the car without my paying for it.i believe that it is unfair for ford to force the consumer to pay for such repairs, when their motor mounts have a proven history of failure.y

Head gasket blew in april of this year.the car was fixed by a local mechanic and ford did pay for the repairs.in august of this year the same gasket blew again, ford refuses to repair the car because they said that ford parts weren't used in the car.also in 1997 the piston in the transmission tore up the car had 52,000 miles on it.it cost me $950 to have it fixed, ford refused to pay for that.

Blown head gasket caused vehicle not to start.

June 1997 i was told bya 2 different mechanics ..one from penske auto in milford ma, the other from beradi automotive in milford ...after bringing in a car for a problem where my car would run hot at idle...that my head gasket would eventually fail because of this problem. Penske went so far to believe it already happened and my block was cracked. They recommended taking the car to a ford dealer for check up. On 6/16/97, with odometer showing 53123 miles, i took the car to valley ford in milford. I told them penske thought the block was cracked. They investigated and said this wasn't the case. To my complaint that the engine ran hot at idle, with a flickering oil lite only at idle they claimed the getting hotter at idle was characteristic of that make and the lite flickering was due to a "sensitve lite". They found nothing wrong. The car continued to run hot at idle, sometimes smelling. I took the car to beradi automotive and they reiterated some day my head gasket would fail and they have "replaced a bun.

The engine failed resulting in rattling noise when the vehicle was first started and when accelerating past 20 mph, june 2000 the engine began to run hot and the air conditioners effectiveness started to decline, upon inspection consumer found out that the head gasket was failing, dealer refused to fix the vehicle under extended warrenty 00m009 because the odometer read 101,800 when the engine itself only had 28,617 mile on it.nlm

It seems that head gasket failed on schedule at 71,000 miles. Although the car is older than 7 yrs the mileage is very short.

Reported oil & transmission leaks, said head gasket ok. Anotther garage fixed oil/repair as part of engine cooling problems with 3.8l engine cooling system.

Head gasket blowout resulted in timing cover gasket blowing. Also resulted in antifreeze leakage which caused timing cover bolts to harden and crasked the timing cover housing itself. The head gasket blowout would have been coverered if it had happened prior to dec 31, 1998 (ford tsr 98m01). However my case like so many others i have heard about did not happen until that expired, now i have other damage as a result that ford also refuses to help with.

Car was having slight and periodic rough idle, mechanic diagnosed it with had gasket failure. Two days later the same mechanic has stated that the whole engine is in need of replacement, due to head gasket failure. No problems were noticed. Have contacted ford & the dealer, both have admitted that there is a problem, but that the warranty extension that was offered has expired. I do not recall receiving any notice for this defect, nor did my car have problems during the recall period. I have surveyed the internet and found many others with same 3.8 head gasket failures and ford is refusing to recall or replace them. This vehicle has been imported to finland privately, but not me. The engine head gaskets were changed in local car repair shop on 12/1999. The consumer saw smoke and could smell the oil on the engine.

Head gaskets failed, causing engine to smoke/starting difficulty.

Engine head gasket failed. The engine lost all coolant. We were able to shut engine down without overheating the engine. Checked engine oil for possible coolant contamination.. Found no sign of oil/coolant mix. Dealer says that estimate of repairs to be around $1200.00 to $1600.00 if they find nothing else wrong.there has to be something wrong with the 3.8 head gasket design. When the vehicle speed sensor fails, it causes the vehicle to downshift at any speed regardless of what the shift lever says. My vehicle downshifted to first gear while traveling at over 60 mph. The failure also causes the transmission to pop out of gear and surge for no apparent reason. When the vss fails, the cruise control ceases to function. I have had this car in for service 4 times for this problem. The repairs last roughly 1 year and pop up again. This last time, the force was so great that it broke the motor mounts.

Engine check light came on, andconsumer pulled vehicle to side of road.problem caused by vapor lock, which has occurred 3 times.ford is aware of the problem and advised dealers that the use of "summer blend" fuel would help the problem.ford has not yet provided a more permanent fix. *ml

While the vehicle was being repaired as a part of the ford motor company service program number 98m01 for premature head gasket failureat middleton motors in middleton, wi it was noticed that there was also a timing gasket cover failure. This also seems premature for a failure of this type. I have written to ford requesting total reimbursement and am awaiting a response from them.thank you for utilizing this information.

After contacting the manufacturer about this, and having received some compensation for the repairs i feel the compensation is inadaquete.it did not cover my out of pocket expenses.i had $3,416 in repair bills (replaced the engine) and was reimbursed $2,900.the difference was stated as being parts replaced which ford would not cover.the engine was replaced by a reputable shop and not through ford.i feel if i had done this through ford (which quoted me $3,900 for the repairs) they would have covered the repair costs.

Consumer has had trouble with vehicle stalling, the fuel pump has been replaced, however the problem is still present.

While drivingengine check light will come on dashboard. Then the engine will stall, and anti-freeze will leak from head gasket.

While traveling vehicle would only travel 15-25 mphand engine would make loud noise.also, transmission failure/ ignition key slips when attempting to start vehicle, and replaced front brake rotors.

Why only that left on brakes after only 38950 miles? this not normal

At any speed the vehicle will stall.when applying the brakes at 55 mph the vehicle vibrates and pulls to the left. Also, the tire on the passenger's side is wearing.

While coming down highway at 55 mph vehicle suddenly went into neutral. Cause unknown.took vehicle to a mechanic, and they stated transmission needed work. .consumer stated the transmission gear box would not shift, the mechanic stated the transmission planetary failed the transmission box had to be rebuilt, also the check engine light illuminated but the mechanic could not find anything wrong.

Engine malfunctioned, resulting in intermittent stalling.

Vehicle experiences stalling, fuel filter, spark plugs, and the multi function relay switch have been replaced.general tire (p205/65r15) experienced tread separation, causing vehicle into a side ditch and through a barbed wire fence, there were no injuries, but a lot of damage to vehicle, consumer indicates fire, however no reference in the comments.

Vehicle recently began dying without reason, engine just completely stops, will normally restart within 30 mins. Mechanic can give no cause, said it is common to taurus. Brakes have been inspected and no problems noted, however when you are turning to the right or onto an inclined surface they lock. Fuel in tank sloshes noticabiliy when turning, shakesvehicle.

Dealer failed to repair due to mileage over service limits as per 00m09/ vehicle was over limits before notification of default. No safety defect listed in the summary.

Vehicle would stall in traffic. Onceengine would cool off it would start back up. Dealer has triednumerous things to repair the problem.sincelast repair 10-09-2000, vehicle hasn't stalled. The consumer stated that a recent recall problem matches the problem this vehicle had experienced.

The car failed to start on 8 different occasions, after cool down car started up wiyh no problems.

Forward engine mount should not fail so often...perhaps a redesign is in order

When the engine overheats or the weather is extremely hot, the engine cuts off and will not cut back on until it has cooled down. Dealer can't finda solution.

Engine ruined because of antifreeze in oil.

My wife had brought the car into the ford dealer (star ford) the previous october because the car had stalled and died in an intersection. Nothing was found to be wrong. She had it in again for standard servicing and complained about it running rough but nothing could be found wrong. My wife was driving my daughter to school when the car started to overheat and run rough. She managed to drive it to a repair shop. They diagnosed it as a blown head gasket. We contacted ford since my wife had previously received a letter from them stating that due to reported problems with head gaskets they were extending the waranty until the end of 1997 or 60,000 miles. We missed it by a month and a half, or 5,000 miles, and they would do nothing to help us out. We had the car repaired but this past week, on oct. 14 the new head gasket blew. Based on this experience and hundreds of other letters that i have read on various internet web sites, it seems obvious that something is defective with this particular motor. Although in my case, we had no danger involved with the breakdown, we were lucky to be driving in town within close proximity of help. Ford has apparently not done anything to remedy this problem for the older models like mine or even newer models. I called their service technician number stating my concern that should i repair the car again at considerable cost, it would probably not resolve the problem. I indicated that my only recourse was to trade the car in and let the pending problem end up being some other unsuspecting persons burden. I am reluctant to do this but all ford could say was that it was up to me, they couldn"t do anything.

While sitting at an intersection vehicle stalled.consumer tried to restart and it made a horrible metal clinking sound.consumerdrove car to a mechanic, and mechanicstated that engine needed to bereplaced.there wasa recall on head gasket, but thisvehicle was not included.please provide any further information.

The engine stops and will not re-crank.this happens at low speed, 20-30 mph, when exiting from an expressway or in slow city traffic. When engine stops, power steering and brakes are lost. Very unsafe..

When driving and making any turn there is a loud noise coming from the engine and the vehicle shakes and cuts off. The vehicle has been in the shop six times for repairs.

The 3.8l engine in my 1994 ford taurus has had 3 severe failures.these failures could have injured someone or caused serious property damage.on the last failure, ford is unwilling to rectify the problem.i believe that all 1994 / 1995 ford cars and trucks with the 3.8l v6 engine should be recalled.

When vehicle almost stopped and then accelerates there is a long hesitation. Dealer reports transmission failure perhaps due to engine mount failure.

During hot weather the engine heats up and stalls out. The vehicle will stay off for about 15 minutes then start up again. Has happened at least 10 times. Dealer can't find any faults.

Consumerbreathsexhaust fumes. Also, defectivehead gasket causescylinder head to warp.

While driving at 35 mph the engine head gasket blew out, and threi was smoke coming from the exhaust system.

Vehicles exhaust system failed causing driver to feel light headed and short of breath while driving, later taken to hospital and found he had carbon monoxide poisoning.

Consumer denied recall repair due to lack of parts (april 99). Mjs (98v-323).

Air conditioner failed.

Air conditioner blower fanwas making noises at low speed. Replaced by dealer under warranty, then after warranty expired, component failed again.also, driver's side door latch failed, door would not close at all.

The headlight switch has been replaced 3 times and the headlights continues to flash. Ford cannot seem to fix the problem and refuses to take responsibility for this defect. While driving, on a highway or in traffic the headlights flash on and off. Sometimes they flash quickly other times they stay off for a few seconds. I have complied to ford about the headlights but they said i was not under the recall. I explained the problem about the headlight going off and on while driving and they told be i should get it fixed and save the receipt in case it was ever recalled but that they would not since it wasn't involved in the recall. When i replaced this headlight switch i noticed that the plactic part around the wires leading to the headlight switch were melted and very burned. This concerns me greatly and has the possibility to cause a fire not to mention the headlight going off them selves. I have saved the old ford style headlight switch and would be more than willing to give it to you.

My ford taurus sho has left me stranded several times.the formula that usually causes the car to not start/stall is if i drive it for a while(.5-2 hours) and then shut it off for .5-1.5 hours.when i go to restart it, it will either not start or will start and run for a few minutes and then die suddenly in traffic.i have had the car in to 4 service stations (3 different ford dealers) and all have said that there is nothing wrong with the car.i got it back from the last dealer on 11/9/00 and they said my problem was due to fuel aeroation and that it would get better when the weather cooled down.this answer was not anything i could use because now the car is extremely untrustworthy.

There is often a grumbling sound that comes from the trunk area when vehicle is started.the problem has begun after repairs were made to the computerized fuel device.

The fuel pump on these cars is woefully inadequate and is forced to work too hard.thus, it burns out the motor very easily.the inner and outer tie rods are a joke - again, woefully inadequate.although it did not happen to me, i've heard of several tie rod ends suffering catastrophic failures while the car was moving!!please investigate these parts for the taurus.

While driving vehicle stalled due to fuel pump failure.

I know of once when the second owner had this same problem and he had the fuel pump replaced.we have had this problem twice ourselves, and have had to have the fuelpump replaced both times.it failed the first time while i was at the grocery store in 1997.the second time, i was on the highway just as i tried to accelerate from a stop light.there i was, in the middle of hwy 25.before we got it fixed the second time and before we found out what was really going on, my son had vehicle quit on him in a very busy intersection of st. Cloud, and again on his way back while driving on hwy 10.you can be going down the road and the car will quit running.you can restart it without it quiting on you again.when discussed with previous owner he told us what to look for because the person he took it to told him that it was a problem with the '94 sho's but that no recall had ever been done.we were told not to let the car's gas get below 1/4 in the warm weather because that is what causes the fuel pump to fail.we were told it is an engineering design problem that can't be fixed.that we will have to live with replacing the fuel pump every summer.i called ford, they said no recalls have been made.i called a dealer on technical papers regarding this,- they said they had no papers regarding it and that i should change the fuel filter every 25,000 to 30,000 miles.i have driven my other vehicles and never had this happen before.

Have had to have 3 different fuel pumpsput on car between 7/97 and 9/97.also " enginecheck light comeson on a frequent basis, never know if there is a problem or if it is just lighting up.

This vehicle has been in my possession since coming into service in july 1994.it was a fleet vehicle, owned by ge fleet and leased to honeywell.in 1998, the speedometer failed at approximately 76,000 miles.it was replaced at my companys expense.i purchased the vehicle in july 1999.in september of this year, with approximately 112,800 miles (only 36,800 miles on the replaced speedometer), it failed again.ford has issued two tsbs.the first in 1997, tsb 97-12-5 and the second in 1999, 99-7-9.the service manager at sheehy ford in richmond va, (mr. Ron crenshew), acknowledged that the repairs dictated under fords tsbs did not correct the problem.in fact, failures have occurred at twice the rate.clearly ford is selling defective parts, both original and replacement.i have tried to work this out with them, only to have policy warranty spouted at me.they need to fix this.ill pay the labor.the part is over $500.this is absurd.we now have a safety issue since it is impossible to accurately determine the speed of the vehicle. Transmission pops out of gear when stopped including in heavy traffic where the event could pose a traffic hazard.after brief period, transmissions pops back into gear causing vehicle to bolt forward.dealer charged $60 to advise that forward clutch piston is "sticking" and tranmission needs replacement at $2,700 plus.ford advises that they will not stand behind their product.research reveals that the forward clutch piston is a very common problem for that vintage of tarus.ford used inferior materials to shave a few bucks and has since changed product due to the high volume offailures.however, the company that claimed "quality is nu job number one" refuses to act in a responsible fashion relative to this defect.garnet ford shoud have told me before charging $60 for an analysis of the transmission or before replacing the engine mount for $400 (apparently a related problem) that this year of tarus has had extensive problems with premature transmission failures.ford should be ashamed of its corporate behavior relative to its refusal to address the massive number of consumer complaints of premature transmission failure on this model.

While driving, the temperature gauge read hot, then the transmission started slipping. The driver proceeded to pull off the road, and had the vehicle towed to a mechanic. Diagnostic test indicated a front leak slid along shift and slip.the transmission had to be rebuilt. *la

After driving a ford taurus for the last 11 years (1985& 1994) i have discovered that both cars have simular problems.my 1994 taurus is inoperative due to a transmission failure.my previous taurus had the same problem.as of today the car won't move.the rear defroster failed in both vehicals.they both always seemed to have problems with the rotors.the factory alarm has been a chore since day one and the automatic locks make this awful sound.on march 26, 1999 i will send a letter of complaint to ford motor company starting at the dealership and working my way up from there.

When driving at 40 mphtransmission slipped, and vehicle would'nt go anywhere, and shut down completely.

My taurus was running great, no problems at all until today 7-9-2004. I went in started my car, it made a noise, then stopped the noise. My transmission engaged in park only. All other gears there was no response. I put it in reverse, nothing, neutral, first, nothing, second, nothing drive, nothing and still nothing. My car would not move. My fluid level was fine. No events led up to this mishap and i am wondering wwhat to do.

Aluminum clutch piston cracked and failed.

While driving at any speed and with no warning transmission will lock up. Vehicle can only go into neutral. Dealer notified.

While driving at 40 mph the vehicle slowed down.vehicle started moving at 5 mph, and there was loud knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle due to the transmission slipping.

The transmission planetary gear went out in the car , please describe .

Per several mechanics including chuck clancy ford's, it has a defective part (forward piston) which supposedly was made out of aluminum originally and now has been replaced with one made of steel.each technician i've spoken with has said this is a common problem and to replace the 8 dollar part would take 2000 to 2500 dollars.if this is a mistake that ford made with their transmissions then i think that ford should pay to fix it. Wouldn't you agree???

Transmission failed.yh

Split aluminum piston caused transmission failure.

The consumer rebuilt the transmission due to a faulty input piston, the mechanic stated that this was a common failure in the transmission design and replaced the aluminum piston which was too weak with a steel piston, consumer is requesting a recall be issued due to the defective piston. *mjs

The transmisssion was recalled on the 1991 - recall # 94m84 - listed as irratic transmissionoperation - the 1994 model has the same failure. Ford refuses to recall the year. The only recall they show on this year was in 1997 for a hose and it was constrained by time & mileage. Mechanics everywhere are aware of all the transmission problems on the ford taurus of any year. Please call me with any help you may have. As a middle class family with 3 kids we can not afford the $1500 (min.) + it will cost to pay for this. Especially since we still have a bank note on the car for 2 more years.this is a concern for many people in the same situation. Is it fair for a company & mechanics to know of these problems but still continue to charge & not recall. Please help the average american

Ford initially rejected coverage for head gasket, i recv'd recall letter. This is 3rd transmission on6yr old vehicle. Trans would jerk forward before complete failure

Transmission failed.

Transmission failed.

Gradually while driving over a two month period, a piston in transmission cracked, resulting in system not engaging after driving and parking for ten minutes or more.when depressing accelerator, vehicle will either slam into gear/jerk driver/occupants or will slip out of gear with no warning.after the repairs, consumer wrote to the ford company to advise of the failure and to request relief from premature failure.ford denied the request.*jg

Transmission pan leaks.

Transmission is jumping out of gear, dealer informed consumer that the transmission will soon need to be replaced.

While drivingtransmission gear shifted from neutral into drive or reverse on its own. Been to dealer & was informed by mechanic aluminum clutch piston valve was split open & it needed to be replaced. Will be using a steel clutch pistion which will hold better.

There was a crack or small pin hole found in the case of the transmission, causing transmission fluid to leak and drip on the exhaust pipe.

The contact owns a 1994 ford taurus.after the vehicle has been running for a while and approaches a stop, it "de-clutches" and either fails to shift into gear or shifts hard during take off.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the transmission needed to be replaced.the speed was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 96,000.

Consumer stopped for a stop light and vehicle died, took to a mechanic and they said it was transmission. *ml

When stopped at a light or stop sign transmission does not shift into gear. When light changes car does not move. Then after waiting a period of time 10 to 60 seconds, the car jerks onto gear and then the driver can proceed.the same situation occurs when backing up.the problem does not occur until the engine warms up.y

Transmission failed to accelerate vehicle at a stoplight.kicks into gear when acclerator is floored.overdrive no longer works.car will only run in regular drive.also engine head gaskets were blown leaking onto spark plugs.probably occurred prior to transmission problem.car used to get to and from work.minimal mileage.

Transmission failed.mjs

Cruise control failed to release when brakes were tapped to slow down. Also, there were no rear brake lights, and vehicle failed to shift out of park. Would need to apply brakes to edge vehicle to shift. Took vehicle to mechanic for repairs. Owner has parts. *ml

While shifting and while driving a loud knocking noise was heard coming from the front.the driver was able to drive it to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the transmission needed replacement.please fill in additional information.

The aluminum forward piston clutch transmission cracked and overheated. This could have resulted ina crash.there is tsb that the transmission needed to be replaced by a steel transmission.dealer also replaced motor mounts.

Upon shifting transmission vehicle jerks and makes noise.

Transmission isn't shifting properly.it has been replaced twice due to failure. There is a leakage within the head gasket, which is leaking anti-freeze out the exhaust pipe. Consumer received a recall prior to faulty head gaskets. Took vehicle in for repair , but dealer only replaced one gasket, when both needed to be replaced.

While driving the vehicle stopped without warning due to a malfunctionwithin the transmission which caused the vehicle not to go forward or backward. Cause unknown.please give any further details.

Upon acceleration vehicle would not move, then all of a sudden transmission slammed into gear, causing whiplash.qcaw

Transmission failue on vehicle with only 23,000 original miles.

Transmission had begin to fail without prior warning. All of the sudden one day i was driving with my wife and son and car began to lunge back and forth. And as i had gotten this looked at i was told that the transmission was failing from a professional in hawaii. I then paid over 1 thousand dollars to get the transmission fixed. Not even a year later and less than 30,ooo miles the transmission started to at up again. Came back to the states had someone look at it and again i was told that the transmission is failing. This is not suppose to be happening. I want to know what i can do to get this fixed. My wife won't even drive the car in fear of leaving her stranded. I know that ford was aware of the problem and i know i am not the only one with the problem on this particular car.

While driving on the highway at 40 mph, the transmission went completely out. Therefore, the consumer was unable to pull over on the side of the road without getting into a collision. Please provide any further details.

Transmission failure, rebuilt installed, now rebuilt is failing at 20,000 miles, slow to up-shift, down-shifts hard, herky-jerky below 40 mph.

Transmission failure was due to an aluminum ring being eaten up inside transmission.ring was replaced with a steel ring. Dealer notified.

Whenever braking vehicle to slow down, transmission becomes jerky and jumps forward. Had contacted dealer, and was informed transmission needed to be tested.

Head gasket blew leaving me stranded on highway, the transmission failed and locked up on the highway causing the car to slow rapidly as if braking leaving me to cross several lanes of traffic to pull over to the shoulder where i was stranded.

Transmission failed.

Transmission failed .

Transmission will not engage unless accelerator is depressed to high rpm level which results in sudden vehicle movement.

When making a turn with the vehicle, it will go into idle, then reengage.

Engine had smelled hot on prior occasions when climbing hills but did not register hot.mechanic did not think it was a problem.transmission downshifted at inappropriate times (ie highway speeds) and mechanic replaced motor mounts.now transmission will not shift higher than 1st gear.

Transmission failed.

While driving temperature went up andvehicle started smoking due to a leaking enginehead gasket. Also, vehicle hada faulty water pump and defective transmission. Dealer repaired vehicle. *ml

Transmission leaks due to pan gasket failure.yh

Car was stalling at stop signs and major intersections. When tring to accelerate from a stop, car would not move initially until extra gas was applied. Then it would lunge into first gear and the car could be driven, at least until the next stop. The warmer the car got, the worse the problem would get and more it would stall. I was extremely concerned about getting rear ended and started calling numerous transmission shops. I then found out that taurus transmission problems are a common problem and transmission shops across the country had been fixing early and mid 90's taurus frequently over the years. Also, ford new of the problem and was the source of the improved replacement part. I don't know the exact name of the faulty part, but it may have been called an aluminum clutch cylinder. The cottman transmission shop guy new what the problem source was just by talking to him over the phone and he showed me the hair line crack in this thin round aluminum part. He also showed me the steel replacement part bought from ford. I also had to pay over $1400 to have the transmission fixed since the faulty part caused damage to othe parts. I had to get the transmission completely rebuilt. Pretty bad considering this car was well maintained and only had about 60,000 mile on it.dt

After replacing the transmission because the cylinder broke in half my electrical system isn't working.nobody can find the problem.

The aluminum piston within the transmission prematurely malfunctionedwhich caused the vehicle not to shift correctly.please give any further details.

Went to put foot on gas pedal vehicle didn't respond right way. Took vehicle to dealer found nothing wrong.two weeks later, wife had the same problem was told by thedealerthat it had a bad transmission.

Car was being operated on is highway at 70 mph when the transmission failed, causing the car to lose all forward motion and coasted to a stop during rush hour.

Transmission piston cracked resulting in extensive damage to transmission components, causing vehicle to not move and then suddenly take off on occasions.mjs

Due to a defective alumumin pistons, the automatic transmission between 1 and 3rd gears moves roughly which may cause a loss of vehicle control and a crash.dealer replacedpiston with steel piston.please provide further information and vin#.

Car overheats and transmission fails when starting out in first gear, resulting in the car stalling in traffic.

This is the second time the transmission has given us problems, the first time was sept 1998 and the forward clutch piston was cracked and replaced at that time approx 23000 miles ago.

Transmission slipping-sticking in gear, real jerky when slowing down- took to mechanic and was told needed new transmission

The transmission repeatedly slips.

Transmission failure. It would shift out of gear at stops. Then delay going into gear and finally lunge into gear violently. Sometimes it would not go into gear.

Automatic transmission failure, no drive no reverse condition. Failure of aluminum clutch piston and other components.

Transmission leaks due to pan gasket failure.yh

Transmission failure.

After coming to a full stop, transmission will "disengage".when depressing gas pedal, vehicle will not move for several seconds, then will engage with a jolt.sometimes, vehicle will not engage completely for up to 10 seconds.this has proven to be a safety hazard, especially when making left hand turns across oncoming traffic from a full stop, or when crossing a road from a full stop, as one does not know if the car will proceed in a normal fashion or if the transmission will prevent the car from clearing the roadway before oncoming traffic reaches you.this appears to be a known problem according to your other reports on this year/model.

While driving on the highway were not able to shift wheneverconsumer stopped at a stop light. Got ready to proceed &heard a loud clunking noise. Couldn't go, had to apply brakes to allow the vehicle to move.contacted amco, and they said that the servo was cracked, and leaking transmision fluid internally. Contacted the dealer, but was not able to see vehicle. Took the vehicle for a follow up at amco, and was told that the right engine mount is cracked.

I've read many consumer complaints on this component, 46k mi is very premature for transmission failure

When shifting into another gear, transmission takes a while before catching in gear. Its a continuous problem. Took to dealer & told would break it down to find what is causing problem.

Transmission failure, due to cracked piston.

This ford taurus has a defective aluminum shift piston and prevents operation of vehicle after stopping for a red light and you want to continue forward vehicle moves forward very very slowly and creates a hazard in the middle of an intersection, with children in vehicle this is a dangerous scenario, vehicle then proceeded forward and resumed going thru the other gears no problem. We have found out that ford taurus' are noted for this problem and felt that the dealer ship should have warned us, children may have been injured. I put only 6473 miles on this vehicle and am a college student on the dean's list and honor society and need vehcile to attend college to receive my engineering degree. I do not have $1706. + $360. That croft ford inc. Wants to install a remanufactured transmission. How can i pay for this defective safety issue? how can i be sure that the remanufactured transmission will have a steel shift piston and not the aluminum? these automatic transmissions should have been recalled for safety reasons. How would you feel setting in an intersection and having cars coming at you? i have heard that the piston heats up and breaks and a ring? breaks. Is this the defect?

Trans axle failure; first commenced at 19,000 mile of wear.dealer notified, and replaced it with the same model( # f4dz7000brm) under warrantywithin one week of repair, trans axle seal failed. Four years later within 68,000 miles, problem reoccurred. Dealer refused to repair / replace trans axle because warranty expired. Problemwas due to the same faulty parts.

Transaxle assembly failed, causing car to hesitate.

Transaxle is an axod model that had the forward piston and seal fail, resulting in severe slippage when attempting to accelerate from a stop. This problem appears to be prevalent in this transaxle, and has been known to ford since at least 1994 (see tsb 94-24-7). The axod came with an aluminum piston, now replaced with a steel one.the problem is the huge cost to the consumer to repair, and the inherent safety concern of the tranaxle slipping as you try to merge or turn onto a road with heavy traffic.

It's notgeared to any manufacture because all the vehicles i have driven work the same way. This pertaining to cruise control. Their is only two ways to shut it off. The one way you shut it off is to hit the brakes like if you have stop fast to avoid a accident. But the problem is if the brake light fuse is blown it will not shut off the cruise and you are fighting the brake with the engine revving at a higher rate like highway speed. The only way you canbring it off cruise is manually shut it off through the on and off switch. Now at avoiding a accident the first thing you do hit the brake i don't i think most people wouldshut it off manually at the time of a accident when their under pressure of a accident and have time to the burn out fuse can happen from a short that happens within the vehicleelectric or a short in a the towing object. This happened years ago with me but with all the problems with throttlethat has happen recent made me thinkabout what happen to me. And again this is not geared to any certain manufacture i have had ford to gm.

Original speedometer began erratic operation; replaced at 43, 916 miles on 02/01/1997.replacement speedometer developed same erratic operation and was replaced at85,421 miles on 08/10/98.the third speedometer developed the same symptoms at127,250 miles in early novof 1999.with all the speedometers, the problem always is that the needle bounces wildly back and forth between 50 mph and the upper limit of the speedometer range and makes a whirring noise. The local ford dealer has informed me that this is a common problem with all pre-1996 taurus.replacing them obviously does no good; from my experience they don't seem to function properly after 40,000 miles.i contacted ford motors at their 800 customer assistance number on 11/22/1999 and was told by "raj" that they were sorry i was having problems, butthey could do nothing to assist me.however, if enough people complained, they would consider a recall.it is impossible to travel under or at the posted speed limit with any certainty when the manufacturer does not provide you with reliable equipmentto determine what your rate of speed is.this is not a owner maintenance related problem.replacingthe units with a similarly failure prone speedometer from the ford parts bin does not solve the problem.
