Mgr.he said it was probably alright, told me to bring it in and they would check computer .called ford moter company to see how to get info. About defect, they referred me baack to local dealer. I don't want to get behind wheel ofcar with defective airbag, i don't know when it will go off,explained this to both places. Ford told me i would have to apply for a form to have it disconnected.i don't feel that i should have to go thru this when this is original factory installed part and it didn't work correctly.wanda b. I can't possibly remember the dates these things happened.i put a new (used) transmission and this one is slipping.i put more brake pads and calipers than you would use in a life time.the springs are weak in the back, but to exspensive to change.i put a new fuel pump and gas tank.i've put a new egr valve, oxygen sensor, throttle sensor, air temp sensor.i put a blinker switch and new struts because mine broke.3 out of 4 of my doors will not open because of the handles.these are just a few of the thingsi wrote down or can remember.now it will not start unless i pump the gas(it's fuel injected) and keep turning it over and over.then i'm not sure if it will start again when i shut it off.the fuel pump is working i think, i can hear it. I bought the car used and the person put a 1989 motor into a 1991 body.these things still went wrong with the car either way.i did not check any below because i'm not sure what to check.

The car would quit and wouldn't start,a wrecker service haulded it in twice.i had to leave itwhere it was overnighttwice.i had it hauled tobrown's auto in paintsville the last time, where it stayed for 1 month.they did a diagnostic computer check, told me the ignition control module was bad,i haven't been able to get it fixed yet because ford isn't making parts.this has been over a year.i live in ky.i have to pay taxes on this to let it sit.

After parking the car and taking the key out of the ignition,engine continued running for 17 hours. The key had to be put back into the ignition and turned off again. Dealersaid vehicle neededa new ignition switch.

Consumer stated he was not able to turn off the engine with the ignition key, the consumer took the vehicle down to a local garage after looking at the exterior of the switch the mechanic informed consumer the type of switch was a notorious high failure item,he was then able to force the key to the off position ,then the key would only turn with a great deal of force but now the engine would not start, then after cleaning the housing and reinserting the ingition key the engine still would not start and the key was not as free as before. Coming to the point of just replacing the switch they discovered that the plug housing was melted around the pins a-4/b-4&a-2/b-2 which could cause a loose connection therefore high resistance could cause future failure of a new switch or fire in the steering column.*mj

On my 3.8l engine, which ford has had continuous problems with, the head gasket blew, which i believe led to both my engine freezing up and a rapid breakdown of the exhaust system, ending in a repair bill close to $1,800.

Consumer stated thatwhile driving home, he turned a corner and heard a snap. Then, hood started to move up and down violently. Consumer managed to bringvehicle home and parked it.this happened today, and has not yet had time to get a mechanic to take a look at it.

My motor mounts, tie rods, and cv boots went bad.the motor mounts and tie rods i feel went out way to soon for any car.this car was given tlc before i had it b/c it was my grandma's.my passenger side door locks are working improperly.they are extremely hard to open with fingers.you have to pull the door handle from the inside usually to get it.

Vehicle recall for rear subframe mount, repair work completed but failed again and consumer paid for second repair.

Engine braceis bolted and not welded. The bolts rusted out, and the engine and transmission fell to the ground. Ford motor co. Is unaware of the problem, transmission shop is aware of the problem.

3.8l engine is notorious for head gasket failure/ford denies any problems with 3.8l engines.

When accelerating from a complete stop a jerking motion was produced. As a result,steering became difficult. Dealer stated motor mountsfailed.a recall 98v323000 was issued, however, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.

Oem 3.8 liter v6 engine failed, requiring installtion of re-manufactured engine at cost of $3608.47.

Front bolts and mounts have rusted.a recall was issued on the rear bolts.the manufacturer has been notified.

Body mounts failed causing engine and transmission to fall on steering mechanism. Recall on other taurus models however consumer's vehicle not applicable.

Engine mounts failed on two occasions. First time was within 18,000, and second time at approximately 48,000 . Consumer believed this was a manufacturer's defect, and needed to be looked into. Can nhtsa help in this matter.

Ford knows this to be a product failure on their 3.8l engines....they are refunding 93/94/95 models for gasket replacement and or total engine repairs.because this is a retired person that put few miles on the car annually the est. Gasket failure ford says at 65,000 miles was not reached until now.but the car had known product failure !

Engine head gasket blew out while driving on the highway at approx. 60 mph. Dealer notified and informed consumer that 1994 and 1995 vehicleswere under recall. Manufacturer notified and informed consumer that no recall was done on those vehicles.

Valve cover gasket failed.

Original transmission was fixed 3 times and then finally replaced, all under warranty. The replacement transmission lasted about 70000 miles, and then has had the same types of problems, and has been replaced. The front right motor mount broke several times and continually the top bolt vibrates loose. The mount has just been replaced again. The front wheel rotors continually go bad, and have to be replaced, especially the right one.

Had taken vehicle to dealer. Was informed that motor mounts were cracked & broken & needed replacing. Motor mounts need replacing again for same problem. Had to replace axles, front disc brakes rotors & cv boots.replaced also, according to mechanic.

Motor mounts failed three times.

Was driving at 40 mph, when car clunked to a stop. The car then immediately accelerated to 80 mph and brakes would not work. Had to pull off the road and throw car into park to stop car. According to ford dealership, the front right motor mount snapped. This caused the motor to lift up into the hood, severing the throttle cable and radiator hoses. According to dealer, motor mounts commonly go bad and are part of normal yearly maintenance checks. Funny that the pamphlet that ford puts out on reccommended yearly maintenance doesn't mention this anywhere. The dealer also said that this was not related to the recent recall on engine mounts and would not be covered.repairs were done including the recall, insurance covered part. Dealer refused to give itemized repair ticket to customer and gave no proof that recall work was done.now the power steering pump is leaking. Dealer said was old leak and not caused by event. Never had a leak before.if i had been driving at a higher speed, or even in a school zone at the time, it would have been more difficult to stop. The dealer that did the repairs is family auto ford; 6105 e. 38th st.; indianapolis, in 46226; ph. 317-545-8551. Service advisor, benjamin bell was very rude and uncooperative to both us and the insurance company and a complaint is filed with ford. When we questioned the repairs, we did not get far, and were bluntly told that it was all caused by us not doing the proper maintenance check. He said motor mounts commonly go out with no warning at all.

I was lucky that i could stop the vehicle without any injuries to myself or anyone else. Had this failure occurred on a highway at a higher speed, i would not have been able to stop.

Was changing the fan belt. Had to remove bracket to get to where tensioner pulley was installed. The tensioner pulley has been released to replace fan belt. Upon replacing the tensioner, the pulley broke in half. The piece of metal that was used, was made of aluminum & not steel. Fingers could get caught in pulley & would have to cut pulley to release fingers.

On my 3.8l engine, which ford has had continuous problems with, the head gasket blew, which i believe led to both my engine freezing up and a rapid breakdown of the exhaust system, ending in a repair bill close to $1,800.

My 1991 non sho ford taurus was parked in the driveway for 1 day. I walked out to my car in the early morning to take it to work. I put the key into the ignition and shifted the car into reverse. It was at this moment, that the car accelerated and i ended up going in reverse down the street without brakes at a very rapid speed. I came to a jarring stop after i impacted a car that was parked on the street. Brakes were squishy and non-functioning. The car was unable to stop by mechanical means. The car accelerated to 45 miles an hour. The car is now totaled and is visually completely wrecked. I experienced whiplash and if the car was not in the street that morning, i would have smashed into a house, possibly killing someone or myself in the process.i have photos of the damage if anyone is interested.

Went to pep boys of ontario, ohio to have brake work done. They disconected my e-brake cable and did not tell me, when i noticed a cable hanging from bottom of car i called and asked about it and then they told me about the e-brake cable. A check with repair specialists disloses that there is an inherrant problem with these transmisson which prdicated ford to issue a service bulletin in 1994. The transmission warrantee was extended to 7 years from date of manufacture or 60,000.00 miles. The repair total was $2400.00 plus towiing charges. With regard to the check engine light. When vehicle travels at speed over 65 mpg the chekc engine light comes on for 20 to 30 seconds and shuts off numerous times. When vehicle travels under 65 there is no problem.all fluids are filled, no other indication of problems. Ford authorized dealers cannot fix the problem.

My 1991 ford taurus wagon has always had major transaxle problems! on two separate occasions the transmission pan bolts loossened on their own. This has caused premature transmission damage, and now the wagon runs misserably! though we tightened up the bolts (for the third time) enough damage occured to the transmission and now the whole transmission needs replacement. I was about 75 miles from home traveling south on interstate 87 @65 mph.i had passed a semi. And pulled back into the right lane. The taurusshuddered and shook and immediately dropped to 45 mph. I put on the 4way flashers and pulled to the right side of the highway. I called aaa and had to beflat-bedded off the interstate back to my home. The ford motor co. 's problems with the sudden failure of the forward clutch piston in the axod-etransmission have been well documented beginning in yhe 1986 model year. But the 1991 seems to fail the most . Usually in the 60-80k range. Just my luck, ibought the car with 76k on it and only got 6000 miles out of it. The transmission will cost between $900-$1200 to replace. Ford did have an onp addressing these failures and did ,in the past,reimburse for correcting them.

I came to a jarring stop after i impacted a car that was parked on the street. Brakes were squishy and non-functioning. The car was unable to stop by mechanical means. The car accelerated to 45 miles an hour. The car is now totaled and is visually completely wrecked. I experienced whiplash and if the car was not in the street that morning, i would have smashed into a house, possibly killing someone or myself in the process.i have photos of the damage if anyone is interested.

I can't possibly remember the dates these things happened.i put a new (used) transmission and this one is slipping.i put more brake pads and calipers than you would use in a life time.the springs are weak in the back, but to exspensive to change.i put a new fuel pump and gas tank.i've put a new egr valve, oxygen sensor, throttle sensor, air temp sensor.i put a blinker switch and new struts because mine broke.3 out of 4 of my doors will not open because of the handles.these are just a few of the thingsi wrote down or can remember.now it will not start unless i pump the gas(it's fuel injected) and keep turning it over and over.then i'm not sure if it will start again when i shut it off.the fuel pump is working i think, i can hear it. The opportunity to significantly injury the occupants due to a major component failure or combination of major component failure must be above acceptable risk standards established by the nhtsa.i have been fortunate that all of the major component failures have occurred at reduced speeds and not in conjested seattle/tacoma freeway traffic situations.the last transmission failure occurred one day after my family traveled to seattle to enjoy seafair and if it had occurred on i-5, it could have resulted in serious injury to my entire family of 5.at what point does the nhtsa take action against a manufacturer for producing a vehicle that is a known lemon that has serious safety concerns.

It was bad enough that paint continued to come off when drying regularly but i was mortified when i tested an area and it looked like water colors were used as paint. After all these years, i have called ford several times with no luck. On one occasion a undisclosed person said it sounded like there was not enough or no clear coat and i should take it to where i purchased it and have them look at it. So luckily the stadium automall in rutherford is directly across the street from where i live. This is also where i purchased it 13 years ago. The man admitted it was dull and a good waxing professionally would help. I told him i would be to embarassed because the paint comes off even when i dry it after a washing. He never checked if they were having problems and told me there was nothing they would do about it.i must point out we are avid ford buyers and my husbands 10 year old truck was re-painted from the same problem. Also as the original owner the recalls listed in your web page on my vehicle were only once reported to me. That the was the child safety catch. Just recently my tie-rod snapped on rt.3 in secaucus, n.j. Luckily for me i am still alive to write to you. P.s. The other things such as rotors excetera have also been done at my expense. Brake rotors replaced/turned 5 times due to continuous braking problems/vibrations.

Had taken vehicle to dealer. Was informed that motor mounts were cracked & broken & needed replacing. Motor mounts need replacing again for same problem. Had to replace axles, front disc brakes rotors & cv boots.replaced also, according to mechanic.

Original transmission was fixed 3 times and then finally replaced, all under warranty. The replacement transmission lasted about 70000 miles, and then has had the same types of problems, and has been replaced. The front right motor mount broke several times and continually the top bolt vibrates loose. The mount has just been replaced again. The front wheel rotors continually go bad, and have to be replaced, especially the right one.

The flexible brake line in the right rear fender well developed an obstruction at the point where an intermediate clamp is installed to secure it to the strut. This caused it to act as a check valve, thereby not releasing the caliper, which caused it to overheat and set the rubber components, wheel bearing grease, and plastic hubcap on fire.

When driving the brakes suddenly self activated for periods of a few to several minutes.

While driving in warm weather with temparatures above 75 degrees, consumer would remove foot from the brake pedal and apply to the gas pedal, however vehicle would not move unless the gas pedal was pushed hard, dealer thought the problem to be a faulty sensor assembly and defective fuel pump, after replacing these the problem did not go away, a dealer drove vehicle and noticed the brake pedal would not come up completely back to where it should be, consumer has to keep her left toe under the brake pedal to make sure it stays up.

Body has separated from frame, there is a recall 98v323000, but this vehicleis not affected.

The dealer corrected the recall problem in 94 and the vehicle has the same problem all over again. Now the dealer wants the consumer to pay for the recall problem,consumerthinks that the dealer should be responsible for the cost.

The body moutns of the rear corner of the subframe which supports the engine and transmission detached due to corrosion, consumer had the repair corrected under the recall at 32, 000 miles.

The front motor mountsbroke. Also, rear sub-frame mounts are shearing off. The dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

Recall on subframe was done in february 1999, at this time subframe is detaching from the body on drivers side of vehicle. Consumer stated that front motor mount was replaced twice. Also front passengers cv axle was replaced twice.

There is a problem with the passenger side rear subframe mounting bolt. Allegedly recall 98v323000 relating to the mount was performed.however consumer was informed that no previous repair work had been done on the passsenger side rear subframe mounting plate.consequences of the bolt mounting plate failure is that the drop in the subframe from the body has allowed other damage to the pulleys and serpentine belt.recall notice 92m77 relating to the engine mount failed and had to be replaced.

I was notified by my mechanic that my 1991 taurus-station wagon had a recall regarding the sub-frame. He suggested i call rizzo-ford in no. Providence, r.i. On mineral spring ave. When i called i spoke to representative rick marrconte and he agreed that there was a recall and he would fix my car, bring it in he said. A few days later rick calls me back to inform me that not only the nut of the subframe was rotted, but also the subframe itself was rotted and it would cost $900.00 to fix and he told me my car was not worth it. To make a long story short, i played phone tag with the ford motor company hot line which seemed like forever. A sheila informed me that they were willing to pay for the repair if the company agreed to repair it. She later explained they refused to fix my car. This fault in my car almost had me and my 6 year old grandson in an accident. When i told the woman sheila this she explained to me that i should have known when buying this car that i should have called to find out about the recalls. This i do not understand...she wanted me to call and find out if my car was a 'lemon'? now because this dealership refused to help me it now makes it difficult for me to perhaps go to another ford dealership that may have be able to help me. I am a student @ uri/cce, also working, and taking care of my 80 year old father. Prior to this damage i had just fix this car for $750.00, which i could not afford in the first place. I can't possibly remember the dates these things happened.i put a new (used) transmission and this one is slipping.i put more brake pads and calipers than you would use in a life time.the springs are weak in the back, but to exspensive to change.i put a new fuel pump and gas tank.i've put a new egr valve, oxygen sensor, throttle sensor, air temp sensor.i put a blinker switch and new struts because mine broke.3 out of 4 of my doors will not open because of the handles.these are just a few of the thingsi wrote down or can remember.now it will not start unless i pump the gas(it's fuel injected) and keep turning it over and over.then i'm not sure if it will start again when i shut it off.the fuel pump is working i think, i can hear it. I bought the car used and the person put a 1989 motor into a 1991 body.these things still went wrong with the car either way.i did not check any below because i'm not sure what to check.

The tire has a crack all the way around the tire edge where the flat meets the side.now the tire won't hold air.the grooves of the tread are still 3/16 of an inch deep so there isn't that much wear to the tire.we didn't take it to a firestone dealer because we know this particular tire isn't on the recall list that we know of.you can see the steel belt.what should we do in this situation?this definately looks like manufacturers defect.

Two good year tires blew out.

While driving at 60 mph consumer had a tire blow out. The consumer took his foot off the gas pedal and stopped. Incold weather the rims are not safe and the air leaks out of the tires. Dealer can't find the problem.

Our firestone tires failed in exactly the same way as the currently recalled tires.my husband and i were driving on the 210 fwy in pasadena after an hour-long drive on a hot day in sept.our tire "exploded" in an unusual way: the tread simply came detached from the tire. It was not a "blow-out" in the usual sense--the tire beneath the tread was undamaged. The tire was relatively new with much tread-depth left on it.when the tread detached, it struck the rear end of the car and activated the fuel pump relay switch, causing the engine to immediately shut down.thankfully, we were able to coast to the side of the fwy, but were in extreme danger of being rear-ended, possibly leading to injuries or death.this was not the first time this had happened to our firestone tires.all four of the original firstone tires we had purchased in 1993 had lost tread in the same way, and had been replaced by the firestone dealer at a reduced cost (the rear 2 tires in 1995 and the front 2 in 1997, all of them fr680 205/65r15). The dealer assured us that the replacment tires would perform well. But all failed in the same way--the tread came detached, suddenly and violently.my trust in firestone lead me to replace all these defective tires with identical models, believing that the first 4 must have been "flukes" and that the others would be fine.but they were not; the 5th replacement was the last straw, we sold the car in december 1997 and never again purchased firestones.please place these tires under scrutiny as well, there may be several people in 4-door sedans driving with these unsafe tires.( dot number: fr680 tire size: 205/65r15 )

Purchased 4 new cooper trendsetters se on march 30, 2000 (mileage at 99,350). First tire problem in august 2001(mileage around 119,000) while traveling on freeway car's front end started vibrating. Slowed down and proceeded to pull over, while doing so the entire tread of tire (front driver side) flew off hitting driver's door leaving dents and denting the tire well. Tire was not requested for replacement as the car was not taken to a cooper dealer and was not saved.(replaced with a goodyear) second tire tread began to wear off on november 20, 2001 also on freeway. Was able to slowly drive to gas station. Tread was about to come completely off. Mechanic called cooper for replacement due to manufacturer's defect. They refused because the tire had been plugged (nail had been in it; plugged by a cooper dealer) they insist that it was not a manufacturer's defect. Why is there a recall for some 1991 ford taurus's exhibiting the same problem as mine with the front brakes and rotors having to be replaced, and not mine.i recently spent $389.00 for this repair.i've also had to replace the axle in this vehichle as i did in another ford taurus (1987) i previously owned. The air conditioning/heating system is also another repeat problem for me ocurring in both 1987 & 1991 vehciles.

My 1991 non sho ford taurus was parked in the driveway for 1 day. I walked out to my car in the early morning to take it to work. I put the key into the ignition and shifted the car into reverse. It was at this moment, that the car accelerated and i ended up going in reverse down the street without brakes at a very rapid speed. I came to a jarring stop after i impacted a car that was parked on the street. Brakes were squishy and non-functioning. The car was unable to stop by mechanical means. The car accelerated to 45 miles an hour. The car is now totaled and is visually completely wrecked. I experienced whiplash and if the car was not in the street that morning, i would have smashed into a house, possibly killing someone or myself in the process.i have photos of the damage if anyone is interested.

While driving at 55 mph and coming off the freeway rpm's won't go down ,and vehicle went up to high speed. The blower motor in my 1991 ford taurus is starting to go out.this problem has been happening for the last week and a half.i will turn the heat on high in the mornings to warm up the car an within a 10-15 minute time frame - the motor will either stop blowing completely or barely blow.i understand there is an existing recall under 03v087000 and complaint number 10184014.as i understand this is a common problem for ford vehicles and needs to be addressed immediately.
