Check engine lights came on stayed on. Air bag light came on flashes 9 times pauses and then flashes 9 times repeats. Cruise control stops working.

Consumer states air bag light flashes, vehicle was taken in for inspection and consumer was advised that a sensor was needed for the right front fender, upon testing vehicle to make sure the codes were cleared it was determined by dealership that another sensor was needed, however consumer declined the repair and requested that the crash sensor that had already been installed be removed, consumer states when vehicle was first brought in she was quoted a price but once a second sensor was needed consumer was then quoted another price, consumer states so far she has paid $180.00 and the sensor still has not been repaired or replaced.

Airbag interior light flashes when driving vehicle due to defective retainer ring or airbag.tt

Consumer has same problem with air bags as mentionedin recall90 e 043 001. But this vehicle not includedin recall due to vin.

The vehicle has an on going problem with the air bag warning light coming on while driving. This may result in the air bag not deploying or deploy prematurely.the dealership indicated that the relay switch needed to be replaced to correct the problem.

When the paint began to peel, i chose not to repaint the vehicle due to cost.when the transmission failed, i chose not to repair it due to the cost to repair.when the cruise control stopped working, i chose not to repair due to the cost to repair.if i get the transmission fixed, i intend to have the airbag fixed as well.

The bolt on the subframe on the driver's side is loose. Fixed under recall #92s61 on mar 13, 1995. Still a problem.dealer repaired recall pars, also struts wre replaced on the front of vehicle, rotors were replaced as well as seat belt buckle, as well as air bag wa replaced.

When vehicle is turned on the airbag warning light is continually on. A recall was issued on model/year . Vin was not included in under recall . Owner has contacted the dealer and manufacturer.

The contact owns a 1990 ford taurus.while driving less than 30 mph, the front driver's side air bag deployed without warning or a crash occurring.the contact sustained injuries to her arms, lacerations on her face and arms, and a large burn on her lip.the manufacturer sent an inspector to investigate the air bag failure.the failure and current mileages were unknown. I had a loose ignition on my 1990 ford taurus in which i could remove my key while it was still running i had this changed while i was having other work done on the car and less then a week later i had a very expensivepaperweight because after they placed a new ignition into my car it caught fire while i was driving it burning out all the wiring and destroying the wires connected to my battery.i towed the car to the ford dealer and i had to lay out even more money for them to tell me there is nothing they can do about it.there have never been any fires or recalls and that was that.

Electrical failure causing power windows, turn signal, air conditioner and radio to fail.

The vehicle experienced electrical problems, the tfi, pcm, starter, battery, and distributor module were replaced.

On november 20, 1998, i had work done on my car at sheehy ford costing $1100.the next day the car died while being driven on the highway.ken reed at sheehy ford said it would cost $3000 4000 to repair an engine bearing problem.my husband and i had spent $4000 for car repairs in 1998-on 2/23 waterpump replacement, inspection of fuel system hoses and tubes, on 3/18 fuel pump replacement,6/12 new pfe sensor, 8/13 replacement alternator and regulator,cooling fan and fusible link , 8/14 replaced alternator and intergrated control module, 11/11 oil change and multipoint inspection and on 11/20/98 another oil change as well as gaskets, seals, hoses thermostat on this date.sheehy ford refused to reimburse me for part of the monies spent on 11/20 or provide free work on our other car a ford explorer in lieu of cash.i contacted montgomerycounty division of consumer affairs, and then, the state of maryland consumer protection division.sheehy ford refused to arbitrate and neither division could prove sheehy was at fault.i had initially called ford customer service and was referred to my dealer.after dealing with the consumer affairs offices , i wrote a letter to jac nasser, ceo of ford.about 6 weeks later in march 1999,i did get a call from a ford rep who refused compensation because i had donated the car january 31, 1999 since it was not driveable. I had the car towed to automation inc. On 1/25/99 and was told the car needed no less than a crank kit, estimate $12-15,000.i believe that whatever sheehy ford did to my car on 11/20/98 caused by car to stop running forever on 11/21.this should not have happened to a car with 65,510 miles that was well taken care of.has an engine bearing problem happened to anyoneelse?

Difficulty accessing horn in emergency situations.

The horn sensors are difficult to locate. Only when the steering wheel is positioned to the right or left can the horn be applied.please give any further details.

While driving at 50 mph check engine light comes onand the engine completely dies out. Vehicle had to be taken to a mechanic.the mechanic put it on a testing machine and it was the electronic ignition coil and the distributor were fried. Alsothey contacted the dealer ,and they said it was nothing they could do because it was out of warranty.

Consumer states vehicle has a thick film ignition module installed on the distributor, where it would overheat and cause vehicle to stall which resulted in vehicle catching on fire and was totaled by the insurance company, consumer contacted manufacturer several times to complain about the incident and was told by manufacturer they had no information about the cause of fire

On several occasions the engine of the vehicle suddenly stopped while driving, once the vehicle was allowed to cool off the driver was able to restart it, the consumer believes this failure is related to the tfi module which was recalled in the state of california, the manufacturer has been contacted.nlm

Consumer stated that the engine components fell onto the steering mechanism, making it very hard to steer.the vehicle had to be towed.

The transmission has extended shifts ever since i purchased the vehicle. It recently began downshifting hard, and upshifts very quickly, sometimes roughly under moderate acceleration. The motor mounts have been replaced twice since purchase in 1996.

Ford has failed to fix head gasket properly after failure of original component.this component should be subject to the recall applicable to other ford 3.8 l engines.

Front & rear engine mounts replace about 3 to 4 years ago under ford recall program. Front & rear engine mounts failed again causing extreme engine vibration and causing engine to hit car hood. Ford was contacted and refused to acknowledge and replace the previously failed and replaced engine mounts had failed again for the second time. In order to avoid any further damage, i replaced these parts at my own expense.this car is 8 years old and is on it's third set of engine mounts !this is a manufacturers defect that should be replaced by ford.

Subframe recall work performed and failed resulting in the driver loosing steering ability.

The motor mount went out at 36,000 miles and it starting the same problem now.tt

We ordered this car new in 1990 with great enthusiasum. This car has been a perfect car for my wife to do her daily driving in which averages about 10 miles. The only problem is that the motor mounts have failed four times since we have owned this car.ford has replaced these mounts 3times under warranty, and the fourth time i paid $356.00 for their replacement.now once more i am hearing that familar clunk which means that the motor mounts need replacement again.these mounts have failed since 12/29/93, 5/20/94, 7/17/95, ando5/8/97. Ford replaced the mounts the first three times under warranty,the forth time i had to have them repaired,it cost $356. I called ford about this prbblem,and ask if this should be still be covered under warranty because this is a reoccurring problem and i was told no. Hopefully,this problem can be resolved. Transmission can't take hills,transmission has to bare down going up hill, and transmission fluid leaks aroundmain seal. This will bleedtransmission dry. Consumer had it towed to a transmission company, and had it rebuilt at owner's expense. Then 6 months later, tranmission fluid is leaking out again. Consumer states there is a loss of heat and air conditioner.windhshield wipers work poorly.driver seatbelt is defective.engine light comes on.

The vehicle was in the on position and the vehicle caught on fire in the engine compartment, cause of the fire is unknown.

On november 20, 1998, i had work done on my car at sheehy ford costing $1100.the next day the car died while being driven on the highway.ken reed at sheehy ford said it would cost $3000 4000 to repair an engine bearing problem.my husband and i had spent $4000 for car repairs in 1998-on 2/23 waterpump replacement, inspection of fuel system hoses and tubes, on 3/18 fuel pump replacement,6/12 new pfe sensor, 8/13 replacement alternator and regulator,cooling fan and fusible link , 8/14 replaced alternator and intergrated control module, 11/11 oil change and multipoint inspection and on 11/20/98 another oil change as well as gaskets, seals, hoses thermostat on this date.sheehy ford refused to reimburse me for part of the monies spent on 11/20 or provide free work on our other car a ford explorer in lieu of cash.i contacted montgomerycounty division of consumer affairs, and then, the state of maryland consumer protection division.sheehy ford refused to arbitrate and neither division could prove sheehy was at fault.i had initially called ford customer service and was referred to my dealer.after dealing with the consumer affairs offices , i wrote a letter to jac nasser, ceo of ford.about 6 weeks later in march 1999,i did get a call from a ford rep who refused compensation because i had donated the car january 31, 1999 since it was not driveable. Vehicle parked on hill engine running parking brake applied. Driver exited vehicle, closed door and took one step forward when parking brake was heard to release and vehicle started rolling down hill. Driver ran after vehicle re-entered and applied parking brake and then used 1 gear on manual transmission. Since this is a manually shifted transmission the parking brake is used regularly which may therefore show increased wear. This was a very dangerous condition, re-entering vehicle while vehicle was moving.

The belts were replaced due to recall campaign# 92v113000 at 88k miles.at 120k miles, the driver side latch mechanism became stiff, then the outer sleeve had come apart.the sleeve was placed back into place and the belt was back functioning properly.*sc

Received recall notice 92v1130, seat belt buckles; ; over 6 yrs ago. Due to nature of job (traveling) was unable to have work done until now. Took vehicle to dealer & told no recalls showing. The front right door came loose and opened while i was driving.the dealer tightened the bolt which holds the door closed.they charged me about $60.a few months later, the door loosened again.when i complained to the dealer, they told me that the door comes loose often, and has to be retightened regularly, at a cost of about $60.i notified ford, and they said that this is not a safety problem.i believe this is a safety problem, as the door opened while i was driving.this has the potential to cause injury.

I have owned this vehicle since jan 1994; it had 78,000 miles on it when i bought it.in the last year i have experienced multiple problems with no resolution.front center seat belt buckle button remains depressed and will not return to the top position making it unuseable as a restraint.tailgate latch has broken off deep inside the door and will no longer latch.catalytic converter "ram's horn" burned out in november of this year; started engine and barely avoided serious engine fire as result of converter failure.car surges when idling, causing it to lunge back and forth so hard it is unable to be driven.air conditioning unit failed; winshield wipers stop in the middle of the windshield when using intermittent wipe; a year ago wiper motor burned out and was replaced.have had the transmission worked on three times in three years.led indicator on stereo burned out 1 year after car was purchased.engine temperature gauge failed-all of these problems are continuous despite $3,000.00 + in attempts to repair them. Also have had to replace radiator, as well as both left and right transaxles on front of vehicle in august 1999.freeze plugs all had to be replaced.car currently "stored" in my driveway, as i cannot afford to put any more $ into useless repairs on this vehicle.

The consumer has been experiencing problems withrear body frame.when the consumer tries to steer the engine stalls .the defect described complies with the defects described in recall number 93v106002.the manufacturer has been contacted.

The rear engine mounts have corroded and dropped, making the vehicle impossible to steer. Dealer said vehicle was not under the recall.

I brought my car into the dealer for a recall service to replace the "sub-frame rear plate nut". While fixing the recall matter, the dealer informed me that the front and rear engine mounts were bad, and that there was a lot of movement in the engine and transmission, sometimes resulting in a "clunking" noise being heard when shifting into drive or park. The dealer advised that the mounts should be replaced and would cost me $343.70. A few years ago, i had noticed the movement in the engine when the car was shifted into park or reverse, and had asked my local garage mechanic about it. He told me the mounts on the taurus were notoriously bad, but my particular car was not covered by a ford recall. I did not pursue replacing the mounts at that time. However, now that this recall notice on the frame came out, i have looked at material available on the internet, and see that there was a general recallfor engine mount deterioration on this car in march 92. (92m77) i do not think i received a notice of that recall. Since i drive my 3 kids around in this car, i try to keep it as safe as possible and deteriorating engine mounts is a recall notice i would have purused. In any event, i called the dealer (century ford in rockville, md) today asking about the engine mount deterioration recall and whether the replacement of the front and rear engine mounts should also be taken care of at no cost to me. The dealer advised that the parameters of that recall were in effect only for 60,000 miles or 6 years. They said my current mileage, about 69,000, puts my car outside that limit and therefore ford would not pay them to do that work. (i.e. I must pay.) i have since called ford and asked them about this situation and they just said they'd do nothing. I think the deterioration of the engine mounts sounds like a well-known (to ford, anyway) problem on this car and seems structurally to be intrinsically related to this other recall on the sub frame, and possibly caused by it.

I have received a recall notice from ford motor company (safety recall 98s36) for the same problem on a 1987 ford taurus which i also own. To date, however, i have not received a recall notice for the 1990 ford taurus described above, although this vehicle has in fact experienced a sub-frame failure.this is quite likely more a failure of communication than a lapse on the part of ford motor company.i would appreciate assistance in getting a recall notice on the 1990ford taurus.

Whole back end of car failed and had to have it all replaced.the bolts broke causing the rest of the back end to totally fail and brake.had to have it all replaced including the bolts, rear suspension linkage, both shocks, and rear axle.we paid out of our own pocket for this to tune of 800.and now to do all of this the car is now acting like it is either having problems with the fuel system or the replaced catalytic converter is going out.

When i brought the car in i asked the service rep. If this was a common problem.he said that he had seen it before and that there had been a recall but that it was for the 93.i looked up the recall and saw that it was for 88-92 models sold or registered in 14 states (but not va). I called ford's 800 number and they told me that my car was not covered, but that a manager would call me in 24 hours (no call to date).i talked to the a different service rep (j. Morrison) who told me my car was not covered by the recall and that there was no one to talk to, no regional service representative.when i picked my car up, i talked to a third service rep. Who told me there is a regional rep, but that he didn't know the name and suggested i call ford.no one will tell me the basis for why my car was excluded from the recall eventhough it exhibited the same exact defect and was repaired in the same exact manner if it had been recalled.

Vehicle stalls onhighway and while pulling away from a stop. Engine check and battery lights come on as a warning signs. Vehicle loses all steering and brakes when it stalls. Manufacturer is doing nothing at this time to remedy situation. Consumer states battery was checked and found to be in good condition, however both the battery and engine lights still illuminate, consumer has spent over 1000 dollars in repairs, and vehicle still is not remedied.

This car has had a lot of work done to it.it never works right. It has had overheating problems,there has been over 5000.00 put towards it to fix &it is still doing the same thing.i have taken it to over 5 mechanics in the past 7 months also the heater has never worked the dashboard has been taken out several times to fix. I think this car is a lemon!!!!!!!!!i will never purchase a ford again. The money i have spent on this car should have been used as a down payment on another one.definately a lemon.

While driving on the highway, the entire rear window of the station wagon suddenly shattered, although nothing had hit the car.the window literally exploded into many tiny pieces, which scattered all over the car inside.our baby was in the back seat, but luckily no glass hit him.the window was entirely destroyed.obviously, there is some defect with the rear window which is very dangerous.

Airconditioner compressor did not work, belt connected to the alternator would not move, so car would not start.brake cylinder leaking fluid onto brakes.hood will not stay up.

I have owned this vehicle since jan 1994; it had 78,000 miles on it when i bought it.in the last year i have experienced multiple problems with no resolution.front center seat belt buckle button remains depressed and will not return to the top position making it unuseable as a restraint.tailgate latch has broken off deep inside the door and will no longer latch.catalytic converter "ram's horn" burned out in november of this year; started engine and barely avoided serious engine fire as result of converter failure.car surges when idling, causing it to lunge back and forth so hard it is unable to be driven.air conditioning unit failed; winshield wipers stop in the middle of the windshield when using intermittent wipe; a year ago wiper motor burned out and was replaced.have had the transmission worked on three times in three years.led indicator on stereo burned out 1 year after car was purchased.engine temperature gauge failed-all of these problems are continuous despite $3,000.00 + in attempts to repair them. Also have had to replace radiator, as well as both left and right transaxles on front of vehicle in august 1999.freeze plugs all had to be replaced.car currently "stored" in my driveway, as i cannot afford to put any more $ into useless repairs on this vehicle.

We read in the paper that this problem had been reported to the nhsta. The wipers motor in this vehicle had to be replaced.the intermitent wiper does not work.

Since mid 1997, the windshield wipers fail regularly.they usually work, but occationally, they will stop, or slow down to an unusable speed.sometimes this can be fixed by turning them off and then on again.sometimes this does not fix the problem.i notified ford of the problem, and they said they will not pay to fix the problem, as it is not a safety issue.i belive it is a safety issue, since the windshield wipers can stop unexpectedly while driving in stormy weather.this causes sudden loss of visibility.

Windshield wiper delay feature does not work.

Windshieldwipers would not return to resting position. Would stop in middle of windshield. Have not turned vehicle off. Would have to force to resting position & then turn vehicle off. Has been to dealer each time for problem. Informed by mechanic wipers not worth expense of repairing.

Windshield wipers themselves off in the up position. Have to push on wipers while turning the wipers on and off to get them to lie down in the proper position.

Transmission can't take hills,transmission has to bare down going up hill, and transmission fluid leaks aroundmain seal. This will bleedtransmission dry. Consumer had it towed to a transmission company, and had it rebuilt at owner's expense. Then 6 months later, tranmission fluid is leaking out again. Consumer states there is a loss of heat and air conditioner.windhshield wipers work poorly.driver seatbelt is defective.engine light comes on.

I am not sure what happened to my comment so i will state them again.the windsheild wipers cut on and off while in operation.you must continue to tap the turn signal or turn the control to keep them running.what i find disturbing is that i have had to drive two other ford trucks a 1993 f-150and a 1991 ford ranger and they both do the same thing.i bought the car from my dad and he tells me it has always done it.the other two where bought used but have always done it.if you need the vin of the taurus or f-150 i can get them.thank you for taking this information

When you turn the wipers off, with the ignition on or off, they stick straight up instead of down under hood. Several dealers told me there has been no recall because it is not a safety hazard. I beg to differ it blocks vision and is no doubt a hazzard. Several techs denied ever hearing of problem, some admitted it was a design flaw. I have seen four other cars with wipers up, three have been tauruses, so i know there is a problem.i have read several news paper articles on ford and gm wiper problems so i feel a recall is warranted and i should get my $168 back. I can't believe this has not caused any accidents yet?

Windshield wipers failed when driving in the rain. Was informed by mechanic that the module went out. Also while driving, the air bag light would be flashing.

Polycast wheel cracked, resulting in vehicle noise.

Fuel injection- car stalls, won't accelerate from a stop. Wipers- stop in the middle of windshield, visibility hampered. Wheels- making a squeeking noise, when inspected found large cracks. Owners manual was not included with the car. Motor mounts keep breaking. Spare wheel/tire that came with vehicle was rusted, parts of the jack missing. Power steering fluid pump was cracked/leaking, had to be replaced. Airconditioner compressor did not work, belt connected to the alternator would not move, so car would not start.brake cylinder leaking fluid onto brakes.hood will not stay up.

Left front wheel cracked prior to recall (90v-159), causing noise, recall repairs refused due to model year.*skd

Right/rear poly coated steel wheel cracked open from stud hole to center hole.

The defective drivers and passengers wheels cracked in half, starting at edge next to tire through the lug nuts into the hub area which caused loss of control, almost caused an accident.

Left front wheel came loose when wheel center section separated, studs were broken/wheel came off..

Right/rear poly coated steel wheel cracked open from stud hole to center hole.
