When driving my car i have been involved in 2 wrecks because of this problem when trying to stop quickly the car does not stop the traction light comes on and the car continues to roll. I had a front end collision and my air bags never deployed i was traveling about 35-40 mph. I bought the car from jd byrider.this is not the first time this car has done this meaning stopping but the air bag deployment this is the first time. I had my kids and grandkids in the car on each time this happened and i fill if i continue driving this car with these problems something serious is going to happpen next time.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph in reverse, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into the neighbors house.the air bags failed to deploy. The driver did not sustain any injuries and no medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

Backing out of driveway- i noticed that steering column was not locked prior to inserting key. Inserted key, turned to start and no response from ignition. Kept turning steering column and decided to engage transmission from park to drive several times. I returned to park-ing the car and removed the key. Initially, steering column was not locked, then i turned the steering wheel several times and then the column locked. Turned the key and the ignition hesitated- the dials were jumping. After several seconds the engine turned over and dials went to normal.i commenced to back out of driveway- the engine rpm jumped, far more then what i was applying acceleration for and the transmission was hesitant ( clunking was audible). The vehicle reversed too rapidly and i appliedquite a bit of brake to stop- i shifted to drive and again i could hear the transmission. The car hesitated to go forward ( transmission was clunking), jerking forward and slowing down and the engine rpm was erratic. I pulled to the side and placed car in neutral; waited a minute which during this time, the vehicle rpm went to normal. Ok, i placed gear in drive and vehicle responded normally.have had several instances of some of the above described events happening since original occurrence. At this moment, steering column is not locked with the key removed and when turning car to start the ignition is just turning over.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. While driving at any speed, all of the warning lights illuminated and the acceleration failed. When the battery was disconnected and reconnected, the failure went away for approximately two months. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an issue with the transmission sensors. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

The acceleration speeds up on its on. The electric components mis charge.

The vehicle was traveling at 70 mph with cruise control on, in heavy traffic. I tapped the brake pedal to release the cruise control and the vehicle lost all electrical power and stalled in the right hand lane of the interstate. Several commercial vehicles had to make a sudden stop to avoid a collision. The vehicle had to be pushed off the interstate. The local ford dealership performed a standard computer diagnostic test and informed us that the computer was unable to locate a reason for this complete loss of power. We contacted the ford customer service division and were advised to continue operating the vehicle until the problem recurred. In the event of another loss of power we were advised to have the vehicle towed to a dealership so the problem could be investigated.

Vehicle had been parked and turned off for at least 4 hours. A fire was reported to my son who borrowed it for work.he used a fire extinguisher until the local fire department arrived.the fd disconnected the battery and put out the remaining fire.in their report stated the fire was electrical and started under the front dash.the middle to the passenger side of the dash is complete destroyed and melted.local ford dealer, byerly ford estimated $4600 of damage. Also stated that the fire was too intense and cause so much heat damage that a cause could not be determined.submitted claim to ford motor company and was informed there was no manufacturer or design issue and would not proceed with any action.car was serviced regularly and had no mechanical issues.

The dash warning lights all come on and the speedometer and gas gauge go to zero. I have had the car since september 2017 and it only had one previous owner! this is a scary problem because the car will not accelerate when this occurs. Has anyone had this problem and figured out how to fix? also there's a loud knocking noise sometimes that sounds like is coming from under the dashboard. This is not the first or even tenth time this has happened. To many to remember all the dates!

My car lost power while driving and stalled in traffic.my mechanic had it for two weeks and tested repeatedly and could not find a reason and could not make the event reoccur.i drive in a rural area with young children.

We are original owners on a 2008 ford taurus x with 143000 miles on it. The transmission has been shuttering and shifting roughly for the past 30000 miles or so. Recently my wife was driving at low speed when several warning lights on the dash went off, the miles until empty reading dropped to 0 (3/4 tank of gas remained), and the vehicle would rev but only go 2-3 mph. I entered some of these symptoms into google and found many message board enteries referencing this issue. What concerns me is ford does not to appear to fix the issue short of replacing the transmission ($4000).

Hood released while driving at 35 mph a total of 3 times. Computer reported a tire sensor inflation issues while driving. Air pressure was fine. Popping, loud grinding noise while driving has returned even after it was serviced due to the drivetrain and transmission. Sounds and feels like something is loose while driving at 45 mph in the suspension, even though we were told that is normal for that vehicle. While turning out from a parking lot, the vehicle sounded and felt like the entire undercarriage had fallen on the ground while we were driving forward. It was very difficult to drive the car forward. We were forced to drive the back roads back to the dealership. The driver side power window goes down while attempting to raise the window. The passenger side power mirror grinds and pops while moving it.

Car shut off 3 minutes after starting it. I restart it then it shut off again after 5 minutes. Drove the about hour and half no problem. 2 hours later drove car a few blocks shut off again luckily i was pulling back up to my house.now i'm scared to drive the vehicle. Please help.

On three different occasions when either pulling out from gravel or wet pavement the esc will apply the anti-lock brakes. The car is in no way skidding or otherwise out of control in any way. It presents a big safety concern. As we pulled out onto the main road the cars anti-lock brakes were being applied while we were trying to drive down the road. We had to try to get the car to the side of the road in order to get out of the way of traffic coming up behind us. The esc light flashes during these episodes. I made an appointment with the local ford dealer twice and they found nothing wrong with the car. I want to make it clear that the brakes come on after the turn has been made and the car is now straight and steady. Each time this has happened it was at low speeds.

While at a stop sign or traffic light withmy foot on the brake the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. I have almost been thrown into traffic due to the independent accelerated. After this happening sevral times and phone calls to the dealer and then taking the car into the dealer.the ford dealer stated they have seen this alot and the problem was in the throddel body. However, i had to still pay $700.00 to have their known problem fixed. Car mileage 113,000.

Had to shell out $528.06 to replace both the 'input & output shift senors' in the vehicle. Repair involved removing the valve body on the transmission for access. Majority of the cost involve the labor to reach this area on trans. A month earlier trans locked up in low gear, dash lights were flashing? shut off engine & restarted. Ran ok then. Safety issue! recall is in order!

Car shut off 3 minutes after starting it. I restart it then it shut off again after 5 minutes. Drove the about hour and half no problem. 2 hours later drove car a few blocks shut off again luckily i was pulling back up to my house.now i'm scared to drive the vehicle. Please help.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate then stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the computer, six coils, and the spark plugs would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was being repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 56,620.

I was taking my son to physical therapy for a stroke he had.the car just shut off.i had to find a place pull over and coast to a stop.after sitting for a few minutes, i started the car and we went on without further incident.however, over the past year and a half, it has shut off on me in the middle of traffic several times.no one could find the answer until recently.we replaced a censor in the transmission and hope that fixes it.i could have been seriously hurt or killed on the occasions that the car shut off in traffic.we recently learned that ford knew about the problem.our transmission date is september 2007, which is in the time frame ford says they knew the problem existed.i think ford should be made to pay for the parts and labor it caused us.

We have been complaining since 2016 to ted britt ford and to ford about the transmission and the jerking, popping, slipping, especially while turning, and they told us that they could not duplicate the problem. This is not the first time we complained. At one point the service tech told us that slipping, jerking, and popping from the transmission was normal for the taurus x. On 10/20/2017, we broke down on a very busy road. We were driving the car when all of a sudden the car started to buckle and choke. Then we had smoke billowing from the rear of the vehicle. We turned off the engine and turned on the flashers. We found out that the antifreeze reservoir was empty. Something is clearly wrong with this vehicle and ford does not want to correct it. We were forced to buy this car because we believe that ted britt sabotaged our 2003 ford windstar lx. Ted britt sabotaged our windstar through disconnecting the vacuum line that fed the heating and ac. We went for three years freezing in the winter and boiling hot in the summer. They did not want to reconnect that line for our heat and ac. They disassembled a lot of our windstar and threw everything in the back of our van onto the cloth seats. Dashboard, cowl, grill, hood was off the van, tires, brake lines, engine parts, and other parts were thrown onto our cloth back seats. They made our tan seats black with the road grime and grease. Then they decided to ask us if we wanted our van back. That was very rude. We had just cleaned those seats. Now we are having problems with the 2008 ford taurus x. We had to call the police and our auto insurance to help us out. We filed an insurance claim to get the vehicle towed and we had to take a taxi to work.

The ford taurus x has 57,945 miles on it.two times while driving the vehicle on the interstate highway the dash showed all zeros and the car lost power.the check engine light came on.the car exhibited slow acceleration and unusual shifting.i took it and had the obd code read.the code indicated that it was a speed sensor in the transmission (p720).the code was reset and the car is currently being driven.it happened twice within a two-week period.i own two 2008 ford taurus and it happened on the same day to both of them.i will be filing incident information on the other vehicle too.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ignition coils on cylinders 3 and 5 had melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ignition coils on cylinders 3 and 5 had melted yet again and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure persisted and the vehicle was taken to a dealer but had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 166,000.

I have a 2008 ford taurus x with approx 8000 miles as of this writing.approx. One month ago, i was driving on a very narrow 2 lane road and my engine failed.i noticed because the steering wheel would not turn and brakes were difficult to apply.i pulled to the side and started the car.it started right up.this past week, the same thing happened as i was driving on the same road.this time i put the car in neutral and started it, then put it in drive.i am afraid of driving this vehicle now due to the potential danger.i take my grandchildren frequently and fear i will not always be in a straight road driving situation if this occurs again.my dealership seems very cavalier about this entire problem.they say they cannot find a problem and that it may never happen again.this is not good enough for me.

Driving the car, and lost the ability to turn the car left.i had to have the car towed and discovered the rack and pinion dear failed internally. Somehow a gasket became intertwined within steering column. Repairs totaled $860.91.

My car lost power while driving and stalled in traffic.my mechanic had it for two weeks and tested repeatedly and could not find a reason and could not make the event reoccur.i drive in a rural area with young children.

Vehicle lost all power, including brakes and steering twice.once at approx. 8,000 miles and again at approx. 8,660 miles (may 2009).vehicle made loud grinding noise and became very sluggish while driving approx. 15 mph. At approx. 15,900 miles twice within 1/4 mile (nov.2009).dealership says they cannot duplicate any of these events or find a reason that they may have occurred.obviously, i am not comfortable driving this vehicle as i'm not sure what it's going to do (or not do) next.there has to be a reason for these events and i'm afraid that i may be in a situation when the next one happens that may cause a very serious accident.i have been lucky so far in that i have been able to steer the car off the road when these events have happened as each time i have been pointed in a direction that allowed me to stop the car out of traffic.the incident date refers to the first incident. There have been three to date (12/1/09).

My 2008 taurus x has lurched forward on more than 1 occasion.in all the events i have been going very slow, almost just rolling to a stop sign or stoplight. I have been able to control it by stomping on the brake. It doesn't happen often, and there are no other circumstances i can recall.

Sudden acceleration while stopped in 2008 ford taurus x.

The drivers side floor mat on my 2008 ford taurus x, shifts/slides to the right, using the floormat latch as a pivot point.this shift in the floor mat causes the floormat to place itself in the vicinity of the accelerator pedal.when the accelerator pedal is depressed to accelerate, it gets lodged behind/underneath the drivers side floor mat, preventing the accelerator from returning to its normal position, and causes the car to accelerate out of control.ford motor company has been notified of this incident and problem via both email and phonecon.the crc at fmc informed me, the consumer, that since this was an isolated incident, no action or recall investigation would be taken.i feel this incident is a serious safety concern, having the issue happen to me on at least a half a dozen occasions.fortunately, i have a calm head and know the proper solution to resolve the issue was to place the car in neutral, which causes the engine to rev to its limiter, and slide the floormat out from under the accelerator pedal.i feel i am the exception to the norm of peoples, in that i did react appropriatelyothers would probably not be so calm and smart in the situation.fords response to my clear safety concern is disturbing and appalling.i feel the only reason this has been an isolated incident is due to the fact that there are probably not many of these particular models out there that have the use/mileage on it,. Being that it is such a new vehicle...in my opinion, this problem will occur in the future, with the resulting serious injury of another individual... I recommend someone investigate this issue.... Email with fmc crc, stating case number, can be furnished upon request.

2008 ford taurusx - vehicle surges or looses power when approaching a stop. Vehicle also has low power and poor acceleration at times. Check/service engine light comes on and off. This has been happening since we purchased the vehicle in 2009. Ford did not tell us what the problem was until the warranty ended in 2010 with 36k miles. Ford said we need a new throttle body. We had the throttle body replaced but from what i have read the problem is expected to return as soon as the throttle body gets normal dirt form normal operation (3months estimated time). This car is the primary vehicle for my wife and two small children and i fear for their safety but what can i do with a car i cant afford to trade away for something decent and safe.

The gas pedal and brake pedal are able to be applied simultaneously causing near accidents. The cause seems to be because of the closeness of the brake and gas pedals both horizontally and vertically. Since ownership of this vehicle, this situation has occurred 4 times. This vehicle is equipped with electrically adjusted pedals which brings the pedals too close in proximity to each other causing these near accidents because the foot unintentionally is able to apply pressure to both brake and gas pedals.this situation i believe is caused through the engineering of the vehicle and the cost to correct this problem should be born by ford motor company.

My wife and i recently purchased a 2008 ford taurus x.w/in the last 2wks we have experienced issues where the vehicle will no accelerate properly and in other instances accelerates w/o any pressure to the gas pedal.this presents safety issues in times when the vehicle should be in a standing position as well as times when it is moving.the issue has been diagnosed as a problem w/ throttle body.after doing further research online - this issue is not isolated to our vehicle.i am not only afraid of what might happen while we are driving our vehicle - now i am also wary of what happen w/ theother taurus x's and freestyles like ours.should this not be part of some greater recall to protect the safety of all drivers and pedestrians?please respond to this to let me know that this is even being reviewed and acknowledged.

A fuel sensor failed recently for the third time in 3 years. Each time there was more than half a tank of gasoline onboard. The most recent occurrence caused the engine to stop completely while on a freeway traveling at 55 mph.

Within 24 hours, twice the car suddenly displayed "empy" fuel guage and having zero miles on the range estimator despite having roughly half a tank of gas.one time, shortly after displaying "empty" despite having half a tank, the car cut off at highway speeds.

The acceleration speeds up on its on. The electric components mis charge.

I have had nothing but problems with this car since i purchased it in 2010 with 32,000 miles on it. I purchased it in april and by the end of the first summer of driving it began to lose all power when driving slowly i would not be able turn the wheel or anything. Luckily all times it happened i was in a parking lot or at a stop sign. Ford said it needed a computer update which was not covered under the warranty. I paid 66.00 for the update, it did not work my car still lose power sometimes when coasting. My car also accelerates without warning. This is very scary because this is my main vehicle and i have two small children. Ford says there they haven't witnessed the issue while driving it so they can't find the problem. Also with in that first year of owning this car my wrench light came on and remained on took it to the dealer and it now needed the throttle body replaced. It was still under warranty so i "only" needed to pay the 100.00 deductible. I did and it was replaced. Sometimes the car will also unexpectedly grind to a halt. No idea what that is but it doesn??t happen frequently enough for them to witness it so they can't find the problem. To add to the list the passenger door is not sealed correctly and whenever it rains the inside of the door becomes filled with water, but that??s not covered under warranty at all. And finally the paint on the hood is bubbling and chipping. The car is four years old now and no longer under the factory warranty so they won't cover it. I feel completely taken advantage of and i have no idea where to turn or what to do but i feel this car will not last the length of the loan. And i feel very unsafe driving my children in this vehicle. It makes me sick. I will never everbuy another ford. Ford should step up and take responsibility before someone gets seriously injured.

Encounter in normal driving while applying the brake moving your foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal your foot seems to catch both making the car difficult to stop(engine runs faster while braking till you realize your foot is in contact with both pedals, happens several times a week with multiple drivers.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x.the contact stated that the hood release lever is located directly to the left of the parking brake pedal.when he attempts to apply pressure to the parking brake, it is easy to accidentally press the hood release lever.as a result, the hood opens.the contact filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer.the current and failure mileages were 7,428. Updated 03-18-08 updated 03/18/08

The transmission of our 2008 ford taurus x (49k miles) went into fail-safe mode on 6/21/2010 and was immediately taken to team ford.there was also a problem with the parking brake pedal working intermittently so we asked that this problem also be fixed while the vehicle was in their shop.the service manage said that they were backed up on the transmission (8 of them - not good) and would be a while so they would take care of the parking brake first.the next day, 6/22/2010, i received a call telling me that while the vehicle was raised up on the rack to inspect the rear end, the service tech noted that there was uneven wear on the pass. Side rear tire and then noticed that the bracket on the subframe attaching the lower control arm was broken (a crack that had pulled apart).i was informed that our extended warranty would not cover the broken sub-frame and bracket, a $2500 part, while my position is that this is covered as it is a "link".i then went and inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was corrosion in the crack.we have only owned the vehicle for 10 months as we bought it used from guadin ford when it had just 37,560 miles on it on 8/6/2009.it was also a ford certified used vehicle.there is no way thatmuch corrosion could have happened to weaken the bracket in under 10 months, fail partially, and have the tire noticeable wear unevenly.we were also told that this "damage" was from "mis-use" of the vehicle.funny thing is, the bracket was the only "damage".not even scratches or scrapes, or, at the very least, a flat tire or wheel damage from a major impact that would have been necessary to break a high strength suspension part.it had to be defective and nobody either caught it or admitted catching it.there are more spots of corrosion on this part which leads me to believe that there was either defective rustproofing or completely inappropriate type of steel used to manufacture this part.

Problem 1, paint peeling off hood and rough metal underproblem 2, transmission began failing while under warrenty, dealership could not get any codes to show problem this, has continued to present. Was notifed this week by dealer that transmission needs replaced, but because every time you turn off the car the codes reset. Ford motor company and the dealer do not want to assist in the repairs of over $4500.00. Bought extended warranty to 75,000 miles and problem first documented on there forms was at 60,000 miles. While driving the car would down shift and jerk. Happened several time and each time took to dealer they could not find a problem.on several occasions the car would not go in reverse but after turning car off and restarting it would.

While stopped at a traffic light the vehicle just took off and i couldn't get car to stop until i put it in neutral while applying the break.mechanic could notfind a reason for this and it doesn't happen all the time .since other people have had the same or similar problem seems like a recall problem to me. Car tries to drive itself!!!

Car stalls sometimes when braking approaching stoplights and lunges inexplicably and randomly both when stopped and when moving at lower speeds. This problem has been building over the past couple of months and has become a serious safety issue. At some point, we will end up rear ending somebody or hitting a pedestrian at a crosswalk. While braking seems to be able to overcome the surges in throttle, it all comes down to reaction time as this problem is random and frequent and at some point it will cause an accident.

The acceleration speeds up on its on. The electric components mis charge.

There is an intermittent problem with the transmission that has happened about 4-5 times in the past 14 months. When pulling onto a road from a stationary position (like from a driveway or gas station), the transmission had a horrible grinding sound, the vehicle would jerk around for a couple seconds and the gas pedal would not work. It felt as if there were rocks in the transmission. Then, after several seconds, it would be back to normal. I tried taking it to the pegues hurst dealership but since they could not duplicate the issue, even though the vehicle is still under warranty, they say they could not do anything about it. The taurus x has about 64,000 miles on it currently. It most recently happened on about december 7th 2015. If this happens again while pulling into traffic, it could easily cause an accident since the vehicle loses power for several seconds.

When u put the car in reverse or in drive it hesitates to move and it jerks.

I have a 2008 ford taurus x , it jerks intermittently, but there is never a specific speed - it jerks at take off, at low speeds, high speeds, there were 2 incidents and it was just for a moment that the vehicle seemed to have lost power no brake, no gas, no steering and i almost went out into traffic ( i was coming out of a parking lot). I called the dealer i bought it from because i thought it was the brakes and took it in they checked the brakes and found nothing wrong. The second "loss" of power was again in a parking lot at an incline i started rolling back and a couple of jerks the vehicle regained power, the check engine light would never come one, as the jerking kept happening and the 2 incidents of loss of power, i took it to a ford dealer and they said they will charge me $100 but if the check engine light is has not on, they will not find anything because the computer records mishaps and will indicate a record by lighting up.then my transmission clutch fell apart and had to have that replaced on 9/22/14. I thought that must have been the issue with the jerkingbut was going out of town yesterday 10/12/14 and accelerated to pass an 18 wheeler and my vehicle jerked really hard and continue a couple more times after that. I had to drive 65mph on a 75 mph, and not accelerate to much to fast.

We initially had issues at 35k miles with the transmission making loud noises and suddenly jerking while accelerating from a stop.took the car to the dealership and they said they couldn't figure out what the problem was but since we reported it prior to the expiration of the warranty we would be covered if it continued to have problems. In september 2011 the problem was finally bad enough that it tripped the computer and they said that they just needed to replace the sensors (oss and tss), and that it would be a $600 repair. I reminded them that we brought it in for the repair prior to the expiration of the warranty and they eventually agreed to make the repair for a $200 deductible. A month later the transmission went out completely while driving down a narrow road at approximately 35mph.the car lost power but we were eventually able to limp home at 5mph.i agreed and they made the repair. At this point all of the jerking from the bad sensors had destroyed several gears in the transmission and necessitated a complete rebuild ($3900).if they had fixed the problem in the first place the transmission would never have been damaged from trying to shift at the wrong times due to the bad sensors!there were safety concerns throughout the life of this vehicle as is jerked, jumped, and ultimately failed in a completely unpredictable fashion.rebuild ($3900).if they had fixed the problem in the first place the transmission would never have been damaged from trying to shift at the wrong times due to the bad sensors!there were safety concerns throughout the life of this vehicle as is jerked, jumped, and ultimately failed in a completely unpredictable fashion.

Less than 80k miles, the car's transmission acts like it lost first gear.the dealership now tells me that this less than 5 year old car needs a completely new transmission at a cost of $5,000.i understand through online forums that this problem is fairly common.unbelievable that ford isn't doing anything about this.

Transmission failed (over-rev'ed and then would not function) and required immediate replacement. Due to being on the road, had to have replaced by a national transmission company. The replacement transmission is now exhibiting the same systems with the vehicle at 45,000 miles. Ford would not honor or reimburse for the $3,500 in repairs.

Transmission stuck in high gear while in motion.can't accelerate from stop to maintain speed.power cycle fixed.intermittent issue.

The transmission in my ford started to "slip" at 48,000 miles.nearly caused a serious accident as i needed to accelerate but the transmission just "stuck" - stepped on gas and nothing happened.very dangerous situations with these transmission in the ford.three more times after that i had similar situation.tried to pull out into traffic and there was no first or second gear.third time the transmission just stopped operating in the middle of the road - no ability to move at all.ford, even while the car was under warranty, would not fix the issue.continued to say it was a "code issue."until the warranty expired, then it became a transmission issue.very unsafe.very concerning.

Harsh transmission engagement and loss of power with higher rpm and a max speed of about 20 mph- replaced speed sensors tss & oss . Same problem occurred again 11,518 mileslater replacing the same parts which ford or dealer would not cover at a cost of $593.00. Tsb 07-21-11 replacing with parts aa5z-7h103 and aa5z-7m101 on both occasionsof failure. Had to limp home both times for many miles. Wife now refuses to drive car. I can't believe ford doesn't stand behind a problem like this when it has a tsb and a multitude of the same reported problem.

We bought our taurus x used in 2013.drove around fine for a month or two, would notice that occasionally it would buck as it shifted from 2-3 or 3-4; then would drive 'funny' until the car was shut off and then started back up; the speedometer would fluctuate and when accelerating the speedometer would drop even as we were increasing speed.if using cruise control on the highway it would go exceedingly fast as a result.this happened off and on for most of a year, we would just shut the car off and turn it back on and would be good to go.could not recreate it, but would happen at least once a week.last fall, the transmission finally cooked as a result.now the car will only drive in reverse and 1st, when it shifts into 2nd, it loses power like the gear won't fully engage.almost got smacked at a red light when this first occurred, since i was halfway through the intersection and lost power.mechanic drained and flushed the tranny, he said the fluid was cooked.he tried an additive, but it was ineffective.needs a new tranny.been sitting since then, a replacement tranny with labor is at least 5k, and the car is only worth about that in perfect condition.

For the past 2-3 year, when attempting to turn the steering wheel left or right, vehicle looses power steering. Took the car into ford dealership, while under warranty, and was repeatedly told by service tech, mechanic did not notice a problem.vehicle shudders when backing up and struggles to shift gears when accelerating on highway.abs brake system kicks in for no apparent reason when driving.grinding noise coming from rear wheel on drivers side when driving the vehicle.took car to mechanic and was told no power steering, need ball bearing replacement and need new/ rebuilt transmission.completely disgusted as the car is only 7 years old. Why cant similarly situated owners of the ford taurus-x seem to get the nhtsa to take any real action on our behalf?i'm confused. Please help!!!

Transmission is slipping and wont change gears

This vehicle was shifting incorrectly on a busy hwy ...from second to third. And slammed into gear eventually, extremely hard causing me to jerk the vehicle to the side. Took it to the dealer they supposedly fixed it. Doing the same thing took it back and they will not fix it because it will not throw a code. I got online and found several blogs about having the same issues and not throwing a code. It does all of this totally random. Several people have brought up the fact of being on a major hwy or interstate and this being extremely dangerous to them or their family. Someone will get hurt, this is an ongoing problem that dealers won't fix. Same transmission is used in several chryslers and they are having the same troubles. This is very dangerous and the dealers , warranty company, and ford keep playing the blame game and passing the buck. This can be as big as the toyato's that kept accelerating and killed a bunch of people.

Driving on highway from milwaukee wi, to oshkosh, wi.after driving around an hour at freeway speed with cruise control set at 70, car suddenly accelerated on its own and rpm went up too.took car off of cruise control and continued driving.the car did it again after a few minutes, accompanied by a loud 'thunk' noise.immediately got off freeway, turned off car and waited till driving again.problem did not reoccur then.but happened again next day on way home.since then it has occurred numerous times.generally only happens on long trips at freeway speeds after driving about an hour to hour and a half.we do not use cruise control any more, but it still happens on every long trip.have taken to dealership and contacted ford.they don't see any service codes so nothing has been fixed.

W driving at all different speeds the transmission will jump. The little wrench light will come on the code is p0715. Tss sensor. The rpms will go up once this happens and the light is on, at this point there is no power and i was almost hit by a truck while all my family was in car. If i stop and turn the car off the light will reset its self. This is a very dangerous thing. My whole family could have been killed. Ford knows this is a very common thing in this transmission. It should be recalled before someone gets killed

First occasion was when my wife was driving the car and she was parking and the car surged. It happened on several more occasions and on 12/17/2010 ford replaced the throttle body and air intake. Then on 2-03-2012 and 12-10-2012 car surged again. Ford dealer ship said they could not find cause. On 12-10-2012the car was coming to a stop and the engine began to surge reach around 4000 rpm, i pushed the brake and it continued to surge and i had to put in it in neutral to stop it from lunging into the intersection. It continued to surge as i put it into gear and moved through the intersection. It then stopped surging and behaved normally. I took it to the dealership and they said they could find nothing. I has since surged again while stopping at a stop sign.

When vehicle gets between 40-45 mph, will not gear up properly and will not run correctly. Only does this intermittently, and you have to stop the car, unhook battery cable, give it a minute, hook it back up and it will run fine until the next time it does it- which could be days, weeks, even months.

Car has a tendancy to drift right or left while traveling. More pronunced drift while stopping. Excessive tire wear. Dealer inspection indicates gears in gear box are loose and gear box needs replacing and vehicle needs alignment. Second set of front tires are worn down to wear bar after only 13,000 miles. Cost for gear box replacement and four wheel alignment is $900. Dealer stated no recalls or service bulletins for steering/gear problem.

Ongoing transmission upshift problems.upon leaving the driveway first thing, or soon after coming to a stop and trying to accelerate again the transmission at times refuses to up shift then slams into gear at high rpm.dealer/other mechanics have not been able to duplicate although there are 2 tsb on these 6f50 transmissions.worse in colder months and somewhat random.besides the cumulative damage this is doing we are worried that the transmission may fail entirely at the exact wrong time (waiting to turn left in an intersection, waiting to enter highway etc) resulting in serious injury.researching online, this is a common problem for this transmission type ( see http://www.fordtaurus.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=15703&start=80 ) and especially the 2008 taurus x model year.the 2008 ford taurus x was a design refresh of the ford freestyle, which was later dropped by ford in 2009.since there are fewer models on the road there are fewer datapoints--but it is a common problems amongst the owners (again please see the link).a common thread online is that any repairs at the dealer are not effective (pcm reflash tsb 08-26-13; tss, oss sensor replacement tsb 07-21-11 ) and the only fix is a $6000 transmission replacement upon total mechanical failure.clearly, there is a engineering design flaw that is a safety issue in a critical component--the power train.please investigate.thank you.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

(my wife) driving vehicle on highway, car violently jerked (jumped) and then dropped in speed dramatically. Coasted off interstate onto exit and waited for wrench light to go off and then made it home (car would not accelerate over 20mph). We called about having it checked but was informed that they needed to have the wrench light on in order to read anything on it. It has happened a few other times and most recent as today (7/29/14) with the car not wanting to accelerate. Prior to this, my son felt the jerk and thought a tire blew. It will not accelerate so you want to hit gas pedal more and it will suddenly jump (accident waiting to happen). This is obviously an issue with all the complaints i have read. I hope this issue is taken care of quickly before a horrific accident happens. God bless.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated while at a stop sign the vehicle would not accelerate. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 101,560.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x.the transmission will not down-shift properly. This condition causes her to increase her stopping distances. On one occasion the transmission shifted into a higher gear, but the vehicle would not accelerate.the vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times for inspection. Since the technicians could not identify the cause of the failure, nor locate any error codes, they could not provide a remedy.the failure mileage was 28,000. Updated 11/10/09. *ljupdated 11/10/09

2008 ford taurus x transmission problems.while shifting into drive and giving it gas there is little to no acceleration.i have to pullover turn off engine and restartsometimes its takes an hour or so to return to normal.i have had it towed to the dealership when it wouldn't drive, it sat over nightand the next morning it was driving fine.thewrench light has come on once during he incident but then went off.

The new ford taurus x (front wheel drive) vehicle rolls back when you take your foot off the brake to move it to the accelerator when on an incline. It will keep rolling as far as you let it go. This is a safety concern to anyone owning one. I am not use to driving with two feet and should not have to. This vehicle is an accident waiting to happen.what are they going to do when some child runs behind a car and the car rolls back and hits them.we were told at the dealership it is because of the transmission ford put in it. I have written the ford company many times about the situation. The last email said ford was within their specifications for the vehicle. I am getting rid of this vehicle.the all wheel drive car gives you about 3 seconds to get your foot from the brake to the accelerator before it rolls back which is enough time but the front wheel drives do not. We were also told ford has this same transmission in most of their vehicles. I have not hit anyone yet, but have come close 3 times already and i have only had the vehicle since december.

I was pulling out of a parking lot onto a street, when i pushed on the accelerator the car crept forward with resistance, as if trying to accelerate with the parking brake on.the car moved into the road at no more than 2 miles per hour.i immediately took my foot off the accelerator, then back on to try to move forward and out of the way of coming traffic.the car then moved forward and accelerated as it normally should.i was very fortunate that there was no immediate oncoming traffic, however, if the car had failed to accelerate normally after i released it and reengaged i probably would have been hit.after getting home i noticed a spot on the driveway where something was leaking from the car.my husband investigated and thought power steering fluid was leaking.i took the car in for a diagnostic check and the report was that it was actually a leak from the transmission cooler.because the transmission coolant is the same coil as the air conditioning it will cost around $600 to replace.i'm currently waiting for a second quote for the repairs.

I own a 2008 ford taurus x awd. I noticed a puddle of transmission fluid underneath the vehicle along the front passenger side. Dealer diagnosed the problem as a bad front transmission seal. I was advised that the repair would take from five to twenty five days to complete due to a backlog of approximately 3,000 vehicles (taurus, taurus x) nationwide necessitating this part replacement. Why wouldn't this be made part of a nationwide recall or at least a technical service bulletin? quality is supposed to be "job number one" at ford.

The vehicle will roll backwards while in drive if stopped on an incline and foot is removed from brake, it rolls like it is in neutral.

We have been having transmission problems since we bought this car, they keep re-setting the computer so it does not show any codes now that it is out of warranty we need to purchase a new transmission on a car that is only 2 years old.the dealership says that they are not willing to help with this even though we have already purchased a new cooling system for the transmission, they have changed the throttle body and it has been in numerous times.as of friday dec 3,2010 they told me that we needed to purchase a new transmission so we told them that we wanted to have are car back after i got my car back they reset the code again when they put it back into my car. I took it to a transmission place it is not showing any codes... Ford did not fix the car they just re-set it 5,677 miles - windshield leaked they resealed6, 000 miles - engine light came on they put in a new throttle body told us the gas cap was not on correctly32,368 miles - sent back in because engine light came on again it was hard shifting in to 2nd.tech verified it was shifting hard into second they re-set it and told me i had to get new tires. I purchased them47,477 miles - sent back in because there car was smoking they found a/c/ condenser/oil cooler leaking we replaced it for over $40058,923 we called because it was shifting hard again they could not see us for 2 1/2 weeks car is now over mileage warranty and they are stating that i need a new transmission.i came and took my car back and they put my transmission back in my car and re-set it again.i took it to a transmission place and it is not showing any codes because they re-set it.by re-setting it and not fixing it from the beginning now we are responsible for paying for a new transmission i believe that ford should pay for the new transmission because this matter was started and continued while under warranty they pushed me off until it was out of warranty.i do not feel we should be responsible for this on going problem.

I wanted to bring potential fire hazard safety recall to your attention. I own a 2008 ford taurus x with 42,000 miles on it the transmission fluid leaks from the passenger side driveshaft yolk (where the shaft enters the trans case). Car is in excellent condition never in accident. Trans fluid drips onto exhaust and then burns to a point of charring on the exhaust (i can send pictures).i have scheduled a service at my local ford dealer (rt 23 ford, butler, nj). I hope they fix the problem, but since it is a fire hazard i had to share this detail with you in case a recall should be considered. The taurus x is a seven passenger family car and i wouldn't want to see a tragedy if a $100 seal replacement can avoid the issue.

I'm a little fat lady that has to ride in the back seat.i can just get the seat belt to hook and cant move because it stretches tighter and tighter.ford claims the do not supply extenders for the rear seats, we did get a set for the front.but that don't help in the back.when we ride home after work on i-79 there is a state trooper on a motor cycle that ride up beside you looking for seat belt violations. I need an extender.

The driver's side outboard seat pivot (5f9z*7460593*ba) failed causing the 2nd row seat fold down/release to be inoperable.the part was removed and replaced under warranty on 22 sep 2010.on 19 may 2011 the seat again became inoperable and was repaired. Method of repair was not listed on the service order. On 10 dec 2013 the seat pivot failed again. I do not have children so the seat mechanism has not be abused.the fold down feature of the seat to increase the flat cargo space has probably only been used six times since the 22 sep 2010 repair. The third row seats are used infrequently.an internet search for the defective part number revealed that other owners have experienced the same problem (also on the drivers side).my concern is that passengers in the third row seat might become trapped during an accident if the right fold down seat is obstructed by collision damage. Ford issued a tsb (a letter, not a recall) on this part number but i was unable to locate a copy of it. The part was supposed to be replaced with a redesigned and/or strengthened pivot.one ford help site reported that the latch could possibly be released by pulling on the release handle while banging on the seat back for 5 minutes.i don't think that would beneficial in an accident.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated that the middle row seats could not be folded down in order to let the third row occupants out of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to hines ford (12610 ford dr, fishers, in) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 80,000. Consumer stated similar incident reported on the internet.

Left rear passenger seat back(2/3rds bench)will not release. The result of this is loss of ability to exit the vehicle from 3rd row seating. Can only exit from the smaller 1/3rd bench seat on the right side. I consider this a safety issue because of reduced ability to exit the vehicle or to be rescued from 3rd row seating area.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x.the contact stated that the fuse heat sensor failed and spontaneously caused the seat to catch fire.all of the components that operate the seat heater failed.there was a hole the size of a fist that burned through the seat.ford motor company stated that this was a manufacturer defect.they further stated that they would replace the seat under warranty and that if the contact wanted another vehicle, it would have to catch fire two more times to qualify for the lemon law.the contact was able to extinguish the fire himself.there were no injuries.his wife was protected from the flames by her coat and a seat pillow.the failure mileage was less than 1,000 and current mileage was 2,000.updated 01-11-08.

T this low mileage. Most people who have this problem would think the rear brakes wore out not realizing that the failed calipers caused the problem.ford should take responsibility for their defective rear brake calipers.this is my and my extended families last ford product because of ford's lack of responsibility.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. While the vehicle was idling at a red light, it independently accelerated without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact placed the gear shifter in neutral to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a ford dealer. The vehicle was taken to ford lincoln of cookeville (1600 interstate dr., cookeville, tn 38501, (931) 284-4509), but no diagnostic failure codes were found. The failure could not be duplicated, but the battery was replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

While driving approximately 65 mph in traffic, the contact attempted to slow the vehicle down, but the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. The vehicle was finally able to stop. The failure began on approximately july 3, 2019 and was occurring daily. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 202,000.

Pulling out of gravel parking lot/driveway the brakes have locked up and the pedal is very hard.goes away fairly fast and drives ok.has happened three times up to now.could cause an accident in high traffic area.i would appreciate any info on possible reasons for this???

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. While driving 65 mph merging into traffic, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact also stated that there was an abnormal burning odor coming from the front of the vehicle. The contact placed the vehicle in the neutral position and was able to slow down. The contact was able to stop the vehicle; however, the engine revved to an excessive rpm. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

Dangerous design of relation of brake pedal and accelerator (gas) pedal. The gas pedal is located within approximately/4 of an inch of the brake pedal. And the gas pedal is on a 15deg.angle from the top to the bottom leaning towards the brake pedal. When brake is applied there is insufficient space to avoid the gas pedal causing acceleration and braking at the same time. Stopping is dangerous!!!! i called the factory and told them about it and asked if it could provide more space between gas pedal and brake pedal and was told no because is was a design feature and must remain so or loose the warranty on the vehicle. No crash or injury yet but close shaves have occurred. I feel on edge when ever stopping at a red light behind another car afraid my car jumping into the one in front of me. Entering a busy intersection afraid the car will not stop because the gas is applied when the brake is also applied. The car is a 2008 model and costly for my pocket-book and cannot sustain damage due to a faulty design that could be correct very simply by the manufacturer by providing more space between pedals. I invested much of my savings and not to have to an automobile that is dangerous to drive and endanger other people. I was a victim of another incident but i am speaking up now to get a dangerous situation corrected.

2008 ford taurus x (formerly known as the freestyle) with premature rear brake wear.my vehicle needs complete rear brake pad and rotor replacement at just 25000 miles, at my expense.ford customer care denying any responsibility for this issue, even with so many owner reports of the same issue.there is clearly some sort of design or engineering flaw with the rear brakes on these vehicles, and ford must be compelled to issue a recall or at the very least agree to cover rear brake replacement under warranty.

Failure of vehicle to stop. Two incidents - 10/25/08 & 7/13/09. Traffic light turns red, and i tried to brake and car does not stop, engine remains at traffic speed and roars.shift to neutral and still no response and then turn car off and on.back to normal and proceed to safely get off road and call ford service.first time cruise control was on an they replaced cancel switch on brake. 2nd time no cruise control and had just left one light and another turns red.ford cannot determine what is wrong with the vehicle.they drove and could not duplicate and returned with black box to record incident. 2 weeks later i receive a call that on a hunch they ordered a new throttle body and replaced it 8/8. No one feels safe driving this vehicle.i am afraid it will happen again and this time i will not be the first car to approach a traffic light or someone will pull in front of me and i will not be able to stop.the service department at my local ford said there have been no similar incidents.i have contacted ford customer service on line and they have only replied that someone will forward it to the proper department and that i should contact my local dealership, who retains repair records. The local dealership does not have any answers and would not drive the car unless they had to.which since i purchased the vehicle leaves me no option. I was wondering if there have been any similar incidents.the vehicle in question is a 2008 ford taurus x.

Rear brakes wear out to soon.

Encounter in normal driving while applying the brake moving your foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal your foot seems to catch both making the car difficult to stop(engine runs faster while braking till you realize your foot is in contact with both pedals, happens several times a week with multiple drivers.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated that when attempting to park the vehicle the steering wheel locked; nearly causing a crash.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosis determined that the contact needed a new steering pump, as well as a rack and pinion.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer said they would assist them with the repairs.the failure and current mileage was 41,000. The vin was unavailable.

2008 ford taurus x.consumer writes in regards to vehicle steering locking up.consumer sent additional correspondence.the consumer stated the steering wheel would not turn at times, when merging into traffic or pulling out of a parking space.the dealer replaced the steering pump and rack and pinion.

I was backing out of a parking space when i lost all power steering.turning the wheel made a grinding noise and on the drive to the mechanic's garage some power came back, but it was much easier to turn left than right. My mechanic reported that he found a tsb from ford on this issue detailing the exact problem i had and how to fix it (replace rack and pinion unit, replace steering pump, power steering fluid exchange - cost approx. $1600) ford is aware of this problem. This is a safety issue. These vehicles should beinvestigated.

Driving the car, and lost the ability to turn the car left.i had to have the car towed and discovered the rack and pinion dear failed internally. Somehow a gasket became intertwined within steering column. Repairs totaled $860.91.

Steering wheel always been like i needed a wheel alignment and balancing but then got tires checked out ok then steering wheel got hard to turn to the left and found out the rack and pinion very dangerous because i was driving home and tried to turn left and almost broke my wrist

Turning left is difficult at times.as others have said, ford knows there is an issue as it is in tsb 09-5-7.dealer first replaced power steering pump, which wasn't the fix.now the rack and pinion needs to be replaced.problem is intermittent so you don't know if you'll have power steering or not when attempting a turn.

Power steering rack failed while driving in a parking lot.vehicle became very difficult to maneuver.ford said steering rack is not part of the power train warranty so i had to replace out of my own pocket.ford is apparently aware of the problem as tsb 09-5-7 shows.this tsb should be a recall for safety reasons. If the power steering would have failed while driving in traffic the car would've uncontrollable.

Steer hard right and left at slow speed in city driving. At first it steers hard then smooth and you can over steer . The steering rack has been replaced & steering pump has been replaced as well. Have not fixed the problem.getting worse

Driving for work noticed with backing in and out of driveways that steering was tight.checked power steering fluid level and it was fine thought it was just needing new tires.driving home after picking my children up from daycare and went to turn right on a curve at about 35 mph and steering very tight with "throbbing" felt in steering wheel.i did not have good control of the vehicle and needed to slam on the breaks to make the curve.took car in and was told needed new rack and pinion.car has 47,000 miles on it.called ford and they said no problem reported and not covered under warranty.now it is very hard to turn at all and raises some serious crash aversion issues as well as sometimes works fine and sometimes not at all.i am a visiting nurse and have two young boys and the cost to fix the problem is over $900 plus more if the p/s pump was also damaged.ford has tsb out (which they denied) and supposedly the new part, that cost at least $200 more than an aftermarket, has to come from ford because they know that there is a manufacture defect.they have remedied the problem with an "improvement" to their rack and pinion system at the cost of the customer.

When turning from either a parked or stopped position the steering feels as though it is stuck in whatever direction i am steering and i have to help the steering go back into a straight position this i feel is a huge safety issue because i not only drive this vehicle back and forth to work i also have children that ride in it as well. Needs to be addressed and fixed at the manufacturers expense if not and there is an accident that results in a fatality there is a huge lawsuit coming your way ford

Driving normally when steering control/assist was suddenly lost causing the steering to bias to the left causing the vehicle to suddenly veer to the left.braking and extreme physical effort to recover control by rotating steering wheel to the hard right had to be maintained to maintain the vehicle on a strait-away course. Steering shuddered violently while attempting to maintain a straight-line path.brought vehicle to authorized ford dealer (brondes ford, maumee, oh) for repairs.catastrophic failure of the steering rack part of the rack and pinion steering gear was cause.metal debris from this catastrophic component failure had to be flushed from the steering hydraulic system during the repair process; entire rack assembly was replaced which necessitated complete front-end alignment.cost for repairs exceeded $1,000.00.vehicle is well-maintained, garage-stored and has never been in any collision and/or road hazard encounter of any kind.

Unable to steer in a parking lot to park.turning left became extremely difficult and a hissing sound occurred.this has not caused an accident but in several situations it has come very close.i feel that ford needs to recall and fix this issue since after doing research i have found this is happening on all vehicles of my make, model and year.this issue has caused my to fail my vehicle inspection for safety.it's an obvious problem and if the state will not pass because they feel its a safety issue then i believe the dealer needs to resolve this problem.

2008 ford taurus x -- power steering stopped working at low speeds and then would re-engage without notice creating significant potential for swerving due to unavoidable over-correction.the vehicle is especially difficult to turn left at low speeds, but all turning is difficult.the steering rack was replaced at substantial cost.steering rack failure appears to be a common problem in 2008 ford taurus x vehicles, which creates a substantial safety risk for the public.

As i was out running errands and backing in to park my 2008 ford taurus x, it became very difficult to turn the steering wheel in either direction. The steering was very stiff and required a good bit of effort. I immediately called the dealership repair shop and was instructed to bring in the car for evaluation. Ford determined that i needed to replace the steering column (rack & pinion) as well as the power steering pump & reservoir. Prior to the initial complete power steering failure in december of 2014, i had complained to ford numerous times about the steering and had had the rack & pinion unit & power steering pumps replaced (at 100268 miles) in february of 2013! in december 2014 they quoted an astronomical price to again repair my car, at which point, i took it elsewhere and ordered the parts on-line. Fast forward 6-months later (june 8, 2015) and my steering has again failed with the same issue - power steering failure. The parts are still under warranty and the repair shop has replaced the pump - which they stated was not working at all, but my steering is still not functioning. This is the third time i'm making this repair, clearly it's a symptom and not the real issue. When is ford going to address this problem?!

Experienced intermittent "shudder" in steering system when cornering and/or maneuvering into parking spaces; this condition progressively got worse and finally, there was a sudden total loss of power assist to the steering system almost resulting in loss of control of the vehicle.noticed large puddle of atf/power steering fluid under vehicle when parked.upon inspection, discovered that power steering reservoir was empty and the steering rack housing had leaking seal where main steering shaft entered housing leading to catastrophic failure of the steering rack assembly. This is the second time the steering rack catastrophically failed on this vehicle (see: nhtsa id number: 10468922; date complaint filed: 08/02/2012; date of incident: 07/30/2012; component(s): steering).brought vehicle in to ford dealer (brondes ford, maumee, oh) for service.entire steering rack assembly was replaced again at a cost exceeding $1,000.ford should be required to recall this vehicle for steering rack due to the numbers of complaints on the nhtsa site alone due to the very nature of this failure -anything steering/suspension/brake-related should be subject for immediate consideration for recall.ft

2008 ford taurus x 135000 miles vehicle started being difficult to turn either way. My wife and 4 kids were almost in an accident because of it. All fluid levels were good. Changed out the rack and pinion and the power steering pump and the problem is still occurring. It occurs mostly at low speeds, but also occurs at higher speeds. This is obviously a huge issue because there are multiple reports online of other people having the same issue. We obviously need to be able to steer to drive and also quickly avoid any hazards on the road and we can't do that because of this issue.

While driving on a secondary road the vehicle's power steering system stopped working making it very difficult to maintain control. After getting the car off the road i shut off the engine and checked the power steering belts and fluid.both were fine. When i restarted the vehicle the steering seemed to be working properly again so i drove home. The steering worked fine until about a block from my house when it failed again.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x.while driving 25 mph, the vehicle drifts to the left and right when the steering wheel is released.it is very difficult for the contact to maintain control of the vehicle.she stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and wants to return it to the dealer.the current mileage was 14,000 and failure mileage was 20.

Car suddenly very difficult to turn to the left almost causing an accident.dealer states steering rack failed and replacement.

Scanned system no codes. Check p/s pump pressure output. Found a valve in rack that was stuck in one direction and not allowing pressure the other way. Replaced p/s rack and then reset alignment. Test drove to verify operation.vehicle would turn left normal, but difficult to the right at slow speeds. No p/s fluid loss. Known issue found online with this year, make, and model.

The car without warning became very difficult to impossible to make right turns.ford knows there is a problem that they claim is not a safety risk per tsb (service bulletin) 09-5-7.in our case we were traveling slowly through a drive through safari and were left stranded on a hill with several wild animals around our car trying to get in while we were unable to turn to get up the hill.we were also unable to make any evasive maneuvers that involved turning towards the right.

I was driving home on city streets when the power steering went out.car became almost impossible to turn, even using all my strength.i could not have reacted to any obstacle that suddenly presented itself, and i could hardly make turns, even at very low speeds.it was a dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated while driving at the speeds of 7 mph with no warnings the power failed causing the steering wheel to lock whilemaking a right turn . The vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and turned off; however, the power steering failed to function correctly when it was turned back on. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the power steering pump and steering gear mechanism needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 56,645 and the current mileage was 56,710. Updated 03/14/12*ljupdated 03/30/12

When trying to make a ninety degree turn right or left into a parking space or pulling out while making a turn, i lose power steering and only have manual steering.i almost hit a car or the corner of the road/building as using all my strength, i cannot make a sharp turn. I have to back up and make wide turns. I am not driving this car much as afraid i will lose steering at a higher speed.it has become very difficult to pull into a parking lot to park at slow speeds as i completely lose the power assisted power steering and i have trouble steering in manual mode--can barely turn the wheel using all my strength at 1 mile per hour.i learned that ford has recalled thousands of cars for this recently and online blogs show there have been complaints about the power steering for this model.

Was driving along parkway drive and try to turn into a side street and after making that turn the steering wheelgot very tight i first taught that my rack and pinion went bad but there is no sign of leak or damage to any parts if it was one side i would have think i look over some thing and miss some thing but it is hard to steer both sides at any speed.

1. The problem occurred at the end of a 1600 mile drive when turning into residence driveway. The problem then persisted until repaired.2. Loss of power steering assist, primarily for right turns.3. Dealer replaced, at my cost, the rack and pinion assembly per released technical service bulletin which recognized this as an existing problem.

While backing and turning out of my driveway at speeds at or near 1 mph i noticed the steering was tight - as if the power steering no longer worked. After pulling out of the driveway and proceeding approximately 1 mile (speed limit less than 25 mph) to a stop sign, i was unable to make the left turn from a stopped position (had to back up and try again - fortunately no other cars in intersection). Moments later, still at speeds of 25 mph or less, the steering became hypersensitive while going around a bend in the road, causing me to not only enter the opposite lane, but to almost do a 360 degree turn (and off the pavement). I went home and had the car towed to ford dealership. First, a failed steering rack was diagnosed, then a lower steering rod joint failure (not sure if only the latter or both since the car is still in the shop). Fortunately, neither i nor anyone else was injured - but the car was not controllable. Also fortunately i had purchased an extended warranty (4th time i needed it, but first safety issue). I read others have similar issues so i am reporting it.

Driving down the road straight, our car made a pop sound and suddenly lurched and steering was impaired.car was taken to the nearest dealership where they found the engine cradle/front sub frame had rusted through internally causing the sway bar to break away and it had perforated around the mount for the control arm. We were extremely fortunate the control arm didn't completely drop out causing an accident. Failure is almost identical to the ford escape subframe recall. Dealer technician said he has replaced a lot of these engine cradles in the taurus x's for the same failure (some worse than ours, completely rusted in half etc.).lack of sufficient paint inside of the cradles causing premature failure is a major safety concern.i would not be surprised if there are accidents reported for this concern.i have requested the engine cradle from the dealership after it is removed for photographic evidence.

Every taurusx and other models using same steering racks, loss of power steering at low engine speed sometimes left or right or both, no warning. Ford has a sb on it if under warranty they pay out owner pays sounds like they are trying to get off paying to repair a defect. It can happen any time without warning.

We were driving with 3 of our kids in the back seat, when all of sudden, without warning, the power steering system failed, resulting in not being able to turn right. Fortunately, we were able to stop the car and no one was hurt. It could have been much worse if this had happened on the highway.we went to the ford dealer, who told us that the part had to be replaced, but was not under warranty. We are waiting for a quote, but were already told it was going to be at least $1,000this car is only 2 years old and failed without a reason.

Loss of steeringwrecked 2 tires.

While driving approximately 35 miles an hour i lost my power steering. My vehicle steers very hard and is extremely hard while trying to park car. Right turns are harder than left turns. The vehicle is hard to maneuver around sharp turns and corners. Mechanic diagnosed it as a bad rack and pinion (steering gear) and is a safety hazard concern.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. While driving 70 mph, the power steering failed. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced due to a hose within the steering column prematurely deteriorating without warning. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

The ford taurus x sel fwd was purchased new in 2009.we have noticed steering noise since 85k miles approximately.recently the car has stopped driving with power steering regularly at low speeds.sometimes at higher speeds it will now also drop out and then resume, making driving extremely dangerous as you are steering hard with two hands when suddenly power steering cuts back in and you swerve as the wheel immediately begins to respond.

Slow speed turning very stiff, so stiff that my wife cannot turn tight at slow speeds. Returned to dealer and had car inspected. Ford said nothing wrong. Has happened twice more before failing completely. Ford says not covered by 5 year warranty. $1100.00 repair and the part is backordered. Obviously ford has a problem with their steering components but doesn't want to admit it.

My car: 2008 ford taurus x, vin=[xxx]the steering wheel is very difficult to turn when starting out from a parked position.while driving, the steering column makes a clicking sound when i make a hard turn.too dangerous.force ford to make a recall.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The steering effort became very great in making turning right from a standstill.it requires intense effort when moving from a parked area. Steering is effected to a degree when at travel speed but less so in straight operation.all right turning is effected and requires tremendous effort.the same effect in either forward or reversemotion.

Power steering , intermittent dis-engagement.this was noticed by my wife in early august 2010.she said it was getting harder and harder to turn.i drove the car for a week and it became worse, (power steering fluid levels were topped off).it would work some times and then completely fail leaving only manual steering without power assist.when i drove on the freeway i could feel the system coming in and our of power, this caused a very dangerous sensation as i never knew when power steering would be active and if i had to do an accident avoidance move at high speed i would not be able to due to the lack of power steering.i read that there is a service bulletin on this problem, i brought it to the dealer and he will gladly fix it at a cost of $1400.my car has 58,800 miles on it and is out of warranty.the dealer wants $562.37 for labor, $ 562.37 for a 8g1z-3504-d steering gear, $190.43for 8g1z-3a674-a pump, and $69.95 for an alignment.

Power steering has now failed twice once in 2012 and now in 2017.complete rack & pinion was replaced in 2012 with 34800 miles, 2nd failure is now 1/22/2017 at 108000 miles.now replacing steering rack and return line. 1st case exiting highway at 70 mph could not turn wheel or turn right.could only make left turns.2nd case leaking fluid and making noise while driving around town.1st was very scary, thought we would crashing exiting express way.call ford cs and they would not do anything due to 4 years but less than 360000 miles.2nd was less scary but did not have control of vehicle and took 5 days to get service by a local repair shop, to far to drive to a ford dealer.not very happy with this happening twice and very expensive over $3000 out of pocket expenses for this vehicle.

It slowly got difficult to steer and got progressively worse

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated that the steering would become extremely difficult whenever attempting a right turn.the vehicle was taken to the dealer or a mechanic to be inspected or repaired. The failure mileage was 118,592 and the current mileage is 125,000.updated 01/03/12*ljthe rack and pinion was replaced. Updated 01/12/12

There is a lemon law blog regarding defective paint on various ford vehicles, yet ford knows of this problem but refuses to take responsibility for the defect.it is a shame for people to spend anywhere form $25,000.00 - $40,000.00 for a vehicle that has the paint bubbling off due to tainted body parts. There should be an investigation and ford should be held accountable. Http://www.lemonlaw.com.

Paint is bubbling and peeling off the hood of the car both at the front and at the windshield.i am the original owner of this 2008 ford taurus x limited.the metal underneath the peeling paint does not appear to be rusted.this seems to be an aluminum corrosion issue.ford has told me both at the corporate and dealer level that they do not have a recall or service bulletin related to this problem.they did tell me to save my receipts incase they decide to cover the repair.

Paint on hood in bubbling and peeling in front near the grill. Took to two ford dealerships and they would not cover the repair because no service bulletin or recall. I have seen numerous vehicles like mine of the road with the same paint issue.this is a paint shop issue at ford chicago assembly where this car was built.

I have purchased a 2008 ford taurus x vehicle.this vehicle consistently leaks water.the interior smells of mold and mildew and the carpet area on the front and rear passenger areas are soaked when it rains.also of note on a different instance the water soaked the headliner area as well.

The paint is bubbling on the hood and is flaking away,i took it to a ford dealership and they said although the paint is warrantied, the metal of the hood needs to become perforated before they will honor the warranty.this is even put in ford's owner's manual as such.they knew there was a problem but they refuse to stand behind their product.there are many different years, makes, and models with the same defect.you can see all of the people blogging about it on the website:http://www.lemonlaw.com/wordpress/more-problems-for-ford-paint-defects-in-2000-2005-models.also, in some new years as well.

Paint is bubbling up on the hood. I took it to a body shop and was told that ford did not use the proper primer for over aluminum.

2008 ford taurus x has a defect in the hood as follows:the hood has corrosion because the aluminum hood is reacting to the steel inserts that are between the inside and outside layers of the hood.it is called galvanic corrosion and should be paid for by ford since it is a design flaw.the problem started when the vehicle had 10,000 miles on it.it now has 17,000 miles and ford has rejected the claim because it is past the 3 year warranty. The vehicle is still in the power train warranty.ford states it will not repair the vehicle unless there is a recall.

While parked the contact was standing underneath the lift gate when the lift gate warning was sounding and the lift gate suddenly slammed down with force striking the contact. The contact sustained a headache, stiff neck and back pain after the failure occurred but did not seek medical attention. The contact also attempted to manually open the lift gate and it slammed down on its own. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000. Updated 08/01/11*ljthe lift gate would not stay open on its own. Updated 08/02/11

Loss of steeringwrecked 2 tires.

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph,the rear end of the vehicle collapsed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the crossover beam had corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,000. The vin was unavailable.

I was driving on a hilly country road at the rate of 40 to 45 miles an hour. As i was coming down an incline, i lost control of the back of the vehicle. The tail end was swaying from side to side like i was driving on ice. As i decelerated and tried to find a safe place to pull off the road, the steering wheel pulled completely to the right while the tail end of the car continued to sway from side to side. Once i was able to stop the car, i could see the part that was holding the rear passenger tire to the frame hanging on the ground.

Driving down the road straight, our car made a pop sound and suddenly lurched and steering was impaired.car was taken to the nearest dealership where they found the engine cradle/front sub frame had rusted through internally causing the sway bar to break away and it had perforated around the mount for the control arm. Bolts that hold front suspension to body fell out without warning.4 bolts - 3 almost all the way out and 1 missing!!!!loss of steering control!no lock washers on these bolts from ford!they are all going to fall out!

I was driving approx. 75 mph down the interstate and lost control of my 2008 taurus x.my vehicle left the road several times, almost overturned before i was able to get it stopped. A witness said my car was going sideways and he could not believe it didn't roll.the left lower control arm broke off of the sub frame. Ford motor company had an engineer look at the vehicle as they said this has never happened before and wanted to make sure that i had not hit anything. Ford has to been cooperative.i wanted to talk to the engineer or someone from ford because i'm now afraid to drive this car.if this had happened near a steep embankment or heavy traffic, we would have been seriously injured or killed.i had my 2yr old granddaughter with me.if there are more incidents, there should be a recall.they are trucking in new parts and ford motor co. Wants the old part.

My car lost power while driving and stalled in traffic.my mechanic had it for two weeks and tested repeatedly and could not find a reason and could not make the event reoccur.i drive in a rural area with young children.

While driving on the expressway at 70ish mph, with the cruise control on, i applied slight pressure to the gas pedal to accelerate around a slower car. When i did, the engine revved to around 3500rpms, but did not gain speed. The engine continued to rev, and since i wasn't accelerating i needed to slow to match traffic flow. I tapped the brakes with no result. The engine was still revving, and next i manually turned the cruise control off at the hand control. The engine continued to rev, and i tapped the brakes again with no result. In urgency i applied heavy pressure to the brake. At that time i heard a snap, and the engine stopped revving, and my speed came down. This all happened within about 6-8 seconds, and resolved just before i had to decide on a place to fly off of the highway going 70 so that i wouldn't kill anyone. This only occurred once as i continued my trip without use of the cruise control. The car was brought in to the dealership where diagnostic testing and road testing were done without duplicating the problem.*ln

Vehicle in park and running/idling on slightly inclined driveway, facing upwards. 'driver', outside and beside vehicle on passenger side, opened front passenger door to reach across and remove key from ignition (shut off the engine), and the second she shut it off, vehicle started rolling backwards, with both of driver's feet still on the driveway and with the passenger door open immediately next to her, pulling her in the direction of the downward slope of the driveway.she jumped into the car, then over the middle console, and with her left foot depressed brake to stop vehicle.both of driver's shins were scraped by the vehicle (along the door sill), as it began to roll backwards.ford motor issued technical service bulletin 08-1-8 on 01/21/08: stopped on incline - in drive or reverse - without brake applied - vehicle rolls - built before 11/28/2007.however, build date for this vin is 01/15/08.also, and again, this incident was while vehicle was in park.brake was not applied. Failed component unknown.

Transmission stuck in high gear while in motion.can't accelerate from stop to maintain speed.power cycle fixed.intermittent issue.

A few times when accelerating, the engine revs and it seems like it gets "stuck". When it happens, i take my foot off the accelerator or pump the accelerator and then the brake to set it right.

When u put the car in reverse or in drive it hesitates to move and it jerks.

The vehicle was merging into a lane of bumper to bumper traffic with the air conditioner on and it lurched forward in such a way that the brake needed to be applied so the the vehicle would not hit another vehicle.the driver felt as if she was not in control & the vehicle quickly accelerated without the driver pressing the gas pedal.

Vehicle was accelerating without any command.

Sudden acceleration while stopped in 2008 ford taurus x.

God bless.

When vehicle gets between 40-45 mph, will not gear up properly and will not run correctly. Only does this intermittently, and you have to stop the car, unhook battery cable, give it a minute, hook it back up and it will run fine until the next time it does it- which could be days, weeks, even months.

When pulling up to a stop sign and applying the brake, the car unexpectedly accelerated instead of stopping. This has happened 2 times in the last 2 months.the car was in straight forward motion on a street pulling up to a stop sign, the brake applied, and instead of stopping the vehicle suddenly accelerated. We were able to go through the stop sign and immediately turn to the right and avoided any accident.

Ford taurus x2008 selthe date entered is approximate, as this situation happened last winter and now this winter whenever the temperature is below 10 degrees f.the taurus x is a good vehicle except for a very serious safety concern.the windshield fluid will not work when the temperature falls below about 10 degrees f.this causes a very serious safety situation on the highway and interstate when snow or road spray, salt, etc. Causes reduced visibility on the windshield.this is not due to the fluid itself, but is a flaw in the little sprayer apparatus.we have owned fords for many years and have never experienced this problem on any other model.ford told me it is a new manufacturer of these parts and that it isn't a problem----trying to blame it on the fluid freezing, but this is not the situation as the same fluid does not freeze in the other vehicles.this should be a safety recall.it is now the second winter i have been experiencing this situation.

The weather was cold...well below zero (about 10-15 degrees f below zero).the car had been sitting outdoors.the defroster was running to keep the vehicle windshield clear.about 10 minutes into the ride, the windshield spontaneously cracked all the way across from driver's to passenger's side, a distance of over 4 feet.there was no nick or stone chip in the windshield prior to the crack.it did not put glass inside the vehicle compartment, but could potentially have impaired vision enough to cause an accident.

The air door position motor makes a clicking noise and only works on the center vents. No way to defrost the window. Cool night window fogged up and can't get air to the windshield to clear off. Very dangerous.!!!!!

The contact owns a 2008 ford taurus x. The contact stated that the defroster for the windows malfunctioned, which impaired his visibility while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 64,000.
