Takata recall: notified of recall for passenger side airbags in july 2015, and immediately turned off air bags for passenger side. Notified of driver side airbag recall in january 2016. There is no way to turn off the driver side airbags by owner. I contacted my dealer today to request that my airbags be disconnected until parts are available, and was told that they were instructed not to take any action until the repair parts are available. I don't believe owners should be forced to continue driving unsafe vehicles. Manufacturer should be required to disconnect the air bags on all recalled vehicles or provide loaner vehicles to ensure the safety of owners until parts are available to make repairs.

Takata recall.i am still waiting on ford to fix the driver's side airbag.i need to be able to sell this vehicle and can not without the air bag being fixed.you can't see a car that you're told to not drive because it could kill you.at this point i believe ford should purchase the vehicle as if i was selling to a private party, not a dealer as that is the only way i can get any money for the vehicle.it's in great shape but un-sellable specifically because ford hasn't replaced the airbag.i believe we've been waiting a year?

Ford recalled the air bags to get fixed on my truck. I took the truck in to a local ford dealership, they supposedly fixed the recall. My son was involved in roll over crash and the air bags didn't deploy. I have a police report and photos to prove that. I also have the paperwork from the dealership showing the repair. My son sustained minor injuries. I am upset and i want answers. Ford should be held accountable, especially in a safety matter.this occurred in albuquerque, nm.

Takata recall - my son drives this vehicle and we just bought it. It is very scary to think that the air bag installed to save his life could take it. We don't have an extra car for him to drive.we would not have bought it if we knew and the dealer probably knew. My husband drives a toyota tacoma that has the same problem. I figured i'll just deal with it right away and was told that the new airbags will not be available until the end of 2017.my son is a new driver, this will make it the longest worrisome 5-6 months.

Ford motor company sent me a recall notice for both driver and passenger takata airbags in january, 2018. This notice says replacement air bags are available.my local ford dealer ordered replacement air bags in march, 2018. My dealer has not yet received the replacement air bags (as of 23 april 2018). This dealer says ford has failed to supply replacement air bags for a large number of locally owned ford products.ford has lied to me by saying replacement parts are available, and has failed to supply parts for a mandatory recall of potentially deadly pieces of my vehicle.i urge the nhtsa, in the strongest possible terms, to join with other federal agencies to sanction ford motor company with huge monetary fines and criminal charges against its executives, and to force ford motor company to immediately provide replacement air bags for all its affected vehicles. Meanwhile, force ford motor company to furnish to affected ford vehicle owners, free of charge, similar vehicles for customer use until ford's explosive takata air bags are actually replaced. This corporate malfeasance is unconscionable. My government needs to protect me from this long known, potentially deadly, faulty product.

Takata recall:i think i've been waiting for well over a year for the fix to this recall. I don't feel safe knowing the airbags could harm or kill me and a passenger. I would feel safer if they would deactivate the driver side airbag until the remedy is available.

After receiving several recall notices, we made an appointment to have the recall performed. The only appointment available was several months out. When the time came, we went to drop off the vehicle. The dealer, corwin ford in reno, nv didn't have the parts and hadn't even ordered them. Service writer michael mcnally said that they would order parts and we would need to bring vehicle back. We expressed displeasure that they hadn't notified us of a delay. We were told that they wouldn't do the recall and we would need to take it to another dealer. We notified the manufacturer, ford, but received no response. We feel that this is a denial of the recall.*dt

***takata recall***i have been unable to get this safety recall completed by my local ford dealer for over two years now. Every time i call i am told they don't have the parts. I don't know what to do.

The srs passenger airbag on/off switch has a lightbulb that is hard wired into the board inside the switch module.it has a relatively short life span, and when the bulb burns out is causes the module to deactivate the srs airbags in both the driver's side and the passengers side.this causes the occupant(s) to be unprotected as the airbags cannot deploy in the event of a collision.this is the 2nd occurrence of this in my vehicle in the last 4 years, and from what i have been able to glean in online research, this is a "known" problem...and no doubt one that ford motor company is aware of, or should be aware of the existence of the problem, as i personally have reported this to ford motor company.ford motor company's willful neglect to remedy this situation by not changing the switch to allow for the easy and inexpensive replacement of a $1.00 led lightbulb to allow either the owner of the vehicle or a qualified automobile mechanic with the capabilities of testing for the continuity of the device is being done for the greed of the bottom line, and their total lack of care for the safety of the vehicle occupant(s).i have personally placed a call, and left a voice message on 10/29/13, for [xxx], ford motor company's general counsel, to call me to discuss the issue, without the decency of a return call in over 24 hours.in the event that ford motor company does not acknowledge this defect as a major safety defect...which to correct each time costs the owner of the vehicle somewhere in the neighborhood of $150.00 to $200.00 for the replacement "oem" part and labor, and also does not reimburse me for these (2) expenses, i will file a suit in u.s.federal court for the northern district of new hampshire for the recovery of the actual, compensatory and punitive damages, as well as the possibility of expanding this to be a "class" filing.

Is this a critical recall or just ho-hum? ford said repair parts were available. My dealer can't get them because they don't know parts are not available.ford is not talking to dealers about parts availability so my dealer can't explain why they don't have the parts. Should i be driving my truck or not?

I received a recall notice for the passenger side airbag.there has been a partial recall for drivers' side airbags covering southern states only.as both passenger side and driver's side airbags are made by the same manufacturer, with similar or identical inflators, why has the partial recall for driver's side airbags not been extended to all states, asfor the passenger side airbags? is there a recall in the works for the driver's side airbags?thanks,..updated 08/27/15

Ford has exceeded a reasonable amount of time to have the air bags fixed. The letter i received in january states in bold letters that parts are available now and to call my dealership to schedule a repair. It is not april and the dealership still does not have the parts. Ford needs to be held accountable and parts need to be delivered.

Takata recall. I received a recall notice that instructed me to contact my local ford dealership so they could remove and replace the defective airbag. The dealer told me they did not have the part and did not have any estimated date for having that part.

There is a recall that has went in to effect on 12/13/2017 from the ford motor company (#17s42) stating manufacturer safety recall issued for airbag inflator replacement. But, the last 2 months i've contacted my local ford dealerships numerous times about a remedy and when the part will be in to replace and repair this i have been told they are uncertain when they will be available. This made me wonder how something this serious of a safety risk and description of the recall stating "if an inflator explodes metal fragments could strike the driver or other occupants causing serious injury or death. This free repair is a final repair for both the driver and passenger frontal airbags on your vehicle. Important, the airbag inflators in your vehicle must be replaced even if they were previously replaced under any other recall." this gives me a great deal of concern as this is my transportation commuting to work. My vehicle is a 2004 ford ranger. I just contacted ford manufacturer over the phone and was told to call local dealerships and was not given an answer. What is my next step? i just hope i am not involved in an accident where my life or the life of my girlfriend and unborn child are at risk.

Takata recalli had one of the air bags recalled replaced on march 21, 2016. My dealer paperwork shows that only the passenger side was replaced at that time. Your web site using my vin number shows the air bag replacements are complete [2]. This is not true and i would like some action on nhtsa to show the drivers side still needs to be replaced.

"takata recall" went to dealer twice on this recall, second time made appointment after telling them what it was for, the recall number, vehicle vin, etc. Took day off work for appointment only to be told they couldn't comply as they didn't have the parts. Why did they make the appointment with no parts? i am tired of the games on this issue. Ford owes me a new truck.

Air bags did not deploy during a front-end collision.this vehicle was involved in a front end collision.a vehicle attempted to make a left-hand turn into the path of this vehicle.this vehicle hit the passenger side of the other vehicle, departed the road way and impacted a corner reflector pole.the impact with the pole resulted in the front end being pushed into a v-shape and significant damage.the driver of this vehicle was wearing her seat belt and was 28 weeks pregnant.the air bags did not deploy.driver was uninjured, but did start having contractions.driver went to the hospital and was monitored for several hours until contractions subsided and tests were completed to verify placenta had not ruptured.

I was at a traffic light stopped behind one car.he started off but realized that it was a green turn signal.so he backed out of the intersection and bumped my truck.there was no damage to either vehicle.he was going about 2mph when he impacted my truck.both airbags in my truck deployed.there was no one in the passenger seat and the driver bag hit me in the face breaking my crown.then it just deflated.i have talked to ford about the recall. They say they are only replacing inflators.i don't need an inflator because mine already improperly inflated!because the inflator was defective, now i have no airbags!because i could not get the inflator replaced, i have to pay to have new airbags installed.i do not think that is right.if the inflator had worked properly, the airbags would have never deployed and hit me in the face!

2004 ranger xlt pickup truck had frontal collision with a stump at 35 mph on oct 3 2004 doing $10,400 damage including bending the frame. Neither driver's or passenger's air bag deployed. Driver has head, neck, facial, shoulder and abdominal injuries. Defective air bags.

I have a 2004 ford ranger p/u that has a problem with the cruise control. From time to time (and getting more frequent)the cruise will not work and when this happens also the horn is inoperable. I know that ford has a recall for certain vehicles with cruise problems , but my truck vin does not fall under those being recalled. I contacted ford customer service ,they informed me to take it to a dealer as it wasn't covered.i called a local dealer service and the service manager said to me oh yeah we get that problem and 9 out of 10 times it's a spring in the steering column that wraps the wires and along with no cruise or horn you also lose your driver air bag protection!!!now this is a real problem,as how many people do you know test their horn before driving out the drive and for that matter really how many people even use cruise control on a regular basis? i know in my case that if it does go in cruise and i am going down the nys thruway and have to tap my brake for slow traffic and then tap resume after traffic clears and cruise does not function that tells me my horn isn't going to work and my life could be in danger if i was involved in an accident because my air bag is also inoperable.

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 ford ranger and the vehiclewas involved ina major accident in the front end.upon impact, the driver's air bags did not deploy. The speed at the time of accident was around 35-40 mph. The passenger's air bag was turned off.*sc

While driving at 40 mph, another vehicle pulled in front ofconsumer's vehiclefrom an intersection.the front ofconsumer's vehicle collided dead center of the other vehicle. Consumer was wearing seat belts at the time of collisionbut the air bags did not deploy. There was one injury in each vehicle. Consumer was treated by the paramedic at the scene.

On 4 november 2014 i was referencing the current air bag issue with ford vehicles. While reviewing current recall on 04 rangers i noticed nhtsa recall #11v3520000> the description of the vehicles malfunctions accurately describes a same issue i am currently having with my ranger.ie, when shifting from p to d or d to r a fuse will blow causing my turn signal, brake lights, and cruise control to become inoperative. I called my local ford dealer service department about the issue and was told there were no recall notices for my vehicle vin number. I'm wondering if there is an issue with the recall vin database or if the parameters shouldn't be expanded to cover more applicable vehicles.in addition there was a recall for the same year and make vehicle as mine yet the service department doesn't show any recalls for my particular vin.

Horn and windshield wipers come on when i turn on headlights on 2004 ford ranger xlt.

The turn signal light stops flashing when turned on during normal driving conditions. When the signal is switch is turned on to activate the left or right signals, the lights do not flash as they normally would both inside the cab or outside on the signal lights. In review of previous recalls for similar vehicles on the www.recall.gov website, nhtsa campaign number: 11v352000, and ford recall number 11c18 seem to coincide with the issue i am having although my particular vehicle was not recalled via its vin number. The recall details: "the multi-function switch was shipped with a subcomponent (slider) that may experience deformation. A multi-function switch with a deformed slider may malfunction causing the turn signal, tail lights, hazard warning signal flashers and/or brake lights not to activate."i would like to know if the recall can be extended to include my vehicle.

The inertia switch on my 2004 ford ranger tripped 4 times in one day, after i had it towed 30 miles, thinking my fuel pump had died.

Two days ago i needed to replace my fuel filter. After doing so i needed to reset the "fuel shut off" switch. The problem appeared to be solved, but it wasn't!! now my truck just stops running as i'm driving and i need to pull over and push the fuel switch again! when it stops all of my power is shut off...this is so frightening and extremely dangerous. It has happened twice just since i changed the filter two days ago. I'm afraid to even drive my truck now.it is obvious that the fuel shut off switch has a short in it.now i am going to have to pay a mechanic to look at it and who knows how much that will run me? shame on the ford motor company, i've always trusted them but i guess it's time to switch...

Windshield wipers frequently either do not work at all or will stop working in the middle of operation. Condition comes and goes with no apparent warning or trigger. Condition occurs in all kinds of weather or operating conditions.

On 7/25/2010, a problem suddenly started occurring with my 2004 ford ranger edge pickup. When i turn on the "headlights", the "windshield-wipers"immediately activate at high speed, and will not turn off as long as the headlights are turned on.in addition, the "wipers" starts by "shooting water on my windshield" also.

The inertia switch hs tripped itself a total of 5 times on my 2004 ford ranger, causing the car to shut down as i was driving.

The rear breaks lights do not work both moving and parked, but the 3rd upper light does work. All the other functions work for the lights turn signals lights, running lights and hazzard lights. I have replaced the fuses and the bulbs. Still no change i have looked up this action on line found many complaints regarding the same thing linking it to a faulty steering column multifunction switch. Nhtsa 11v352000. Ford claims that this is not a recall issue with 2004 ford rangers.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the windshield wipers turned on when the contact turned the headlights on. Problem with loss of all directional and abs/brake indicator on dashboard on my 2004 ford ranger pickup.when pulling out of stop onto a main thoroughfare, my directional quit working as i made the turn. I tried to click them manually, but to no avail...at the same time as i lost my directional, my abs/brake failure indicators illuminated on the dashboard.not only was i not able to signal a turn (at 20:00 hours), but other drivers could not see my hand signals because it was so dark.in the process of trying to make a turn (to return home), another driver honked at me (for lack of turn indication) and cut me off, causing me to jam on my brakes.with no abs available, i of course started to slide. I quickly let off the brake pedal to manually pump my brakes to slow down.i brought the vehicle to the local ford dealership the following day. The report from the dealership is as follows;customer reports abs light on', 'customer reports all directional inoperable. Verified concern. Found fuse #20-10amp blown, replaced fuse, blew again. Found wiring on frame rail corroded and short to ground. Repaired and checked, all ok'.

After short drive, and shutdown engine would crank but not start. Towed to dealership. Next day truck started right up. Dealer could find no issues. Several weeks and 2000 miles later, problem occurred again. Found fuel inertia switch electrical connector melted. Fell apart when removing. Purchased new switch and electrical harness connector pigtail. Fortunately failure occurred after stopping and shutting down. Could cause a terrible accident if failure occurred at highway speeds. Something is causing an overheat condition in this switch/connector.

Was driving and suddenly, my vehicle started to lose power.was very scary because it was at night.engine light came on and power was lost.pulled off freeway into gas station.checked fluids, etc..upon trying to leave, vehicle was sputtering with no compression.i did not think i was going to make it home.after a fewminutes, i tried again, this time giving vehicle more gas.it seemed to do a little better.but, every time i had to slow down or stop for a stop sign or traffic light, vehicle was sputtering and acting like it was going to stall out.was very nerve racking, as i was afraid of being rear ended by cars that were behind me.now every time i slow down to where vehicle is in idle, it acts like it is going to stall out on me, which makes me very nervous.had a mechanic install new plugs, new injector, coil package and vehicle is still doing badly and running very rough.engine light still comes on after having all these new parts installed.mechanic also recommended using a gas additive and filling tank with premium gas, which i did.still running rough.upon further research, have found out that ford rangers, years 2004 through 2006 are having the same problem.my vehicle only has 66,362 miles on it and i have kept maintained at all times.ford has known about this but has not done a recall yet.i feel that they are responsible and that there should be a recall on these vehicles.either i will have to buy a new engine or a new vehicle, which i can not afford.ford needs to recall and pay for what needs to be done to fix this problem, as they were aware of this problem and have done nothing about it.i should not have to pay for new engine or new vehicle, when my 2004 ranger has low mileage and has been well maintained the whole time that i have had it.it is the 3.0 vulcan engine.please help.

This complaint is regarding the very common problem with the 3.0 v6 motors that ford produced known as the "valve recession" ford released over 200,000 vehicles with these faulty cylinder heads. Ford is aware of this problem as they sent out a tsb (service bulletin) regarding this issue but yet they wont recall this problem.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. While the vehicle was stopped at a red light, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to idle independently. The accelerator was depressed and the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000. Updated 12/13/2017

Come to a stop light engine idles rough and hesitates at take off wont go over 3mph for 1/4 mile check engine light flashing.

Ford sold this truck with defective cylinder heads.

If i left the engine idle more than two minutes it would not pass the state emissions test. Now the emission light came on and it will not go off anymore. Almost got an accident vehicle will not drive over 20 mph anymore. I must have the same problems of thousands of other people. I was told i have to change the heads on the engine because of poor quality cast iron heads that was used for like three years. My ford truck is one of these years they had the issues. Now i have to spend thousands of dollars fixing it this is nonsense with the low miles i have on it. These fordsshould be recalled because of the safety issue. I have taken such good care of this truck and it still looks like brand-new i have to fix it!please help!!!

Consumer complained about a starting problem. Vehicle was takento dealer on several occasions. Dealer replaced the fuel pump, butproblem recurred.

Check engine light came on...called the ford hotline no help there they said we where a few miles over the warranty to cover that part. So we took it to our mechanic and he new in five minutes what was wrong we had paperwork showing the problems ford was having with theses trucks. So i called the nearest for dealer and asked them about it and they wanted to charge us so much to see if they can find the problem we told them we know the problem. They wanted to charge us over 2000 dollars to repair the truck.so we had to hold off due to the economy so bad. So we took it 1 week ago to our mechanic fixed the problem cost us 1900 for everything they where defective heads values where sinking into the heads cylinders had no compression ,so know we are out 1900 to have this truck repaired where all of this is due to fords bad parts they put in the truck. Ford said they could not help us do to we had a few miles over 70,000 that is bull if they would have told us about this problem we would have taken it in we never received anything from them telling us about this defective parts.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. While driving atapproximately 55 mph, there was an abnormal scraping sound coming from the engine and then the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home where it was inspected by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer advised there was norecall for the failure and the contact would be responsible for any repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 39,304.

Recently i encountered a problem with my 2004 ford ranger. The harmonic balance pulley came apart. The website carcomplaints.com has at least 14 incidence of harmonic balance failure on other ford models. Can you investigate this issue and verify my findings? in my opinion, the problem has serious safety ramifications because of the systems involved. The harmonic balance pulley driving the serpentine belt that power the steering and brake pumps. The loss of both pumps has the potential of causing an accident. The loss of the serpentine belt will also cause over heating. I believe ford should inspect and make repairs to this component on its vehicles without charge to the customer.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger.while driving less than 40 mph, the contact stated that there seemed to be water in the fuel tank.he heard a rattling noise and the engine failed.the dealer could not assist and there were no recalls on the vehicle.the failure and current mileages were less than 62,000. Updated 12/11/08 the valve spring came out of the plastic valve cover. Updated 12/11/08.

While driving up an incline vehicle made noise and lost power. Vehicle wastaken todealer on two separate occasions, but problem recurred.

Complaint related to 2004 ford ranger 4.0l v6 sohc engine with 81,000 miles. On september 15th 2010, i started experiencing a squeak from the engine compartment on my 2004 ford ranger. I changed the pulleys that had bearings that could contribute to the noise but the noise persisted. I then changed the belt and the squeak went away for a while. After another 1500 miles the squeak was back and more pronounced. I investigated this incidence and found that the pulley separated from the harmonic balance and slid towards the timing chain case. The belt was now riding on the rubber hub of the crankshaft part of the harmonic balance. The squeak was coming from the belt rubbing on the side of the pulleyreplaced harmonic balance with after market model. Old part available for inspection.

While driving with passenger, the inertia switch can be easily unattached or loosened. This causes the truck to randomly die.if the manual vehicle dies while driving at high speed, in bad traffic, or turns requiring power steering, the vehicle can be dangerous.

I was approaching a intersection with this vehicle and i attemptedto stop. As i was braking the truck suddenly accelerated, while my foot was on the brake pedal.the rpms increased, and the only thing i could do was to maintain pressureon the brake and to keep my hands on the steeringwheel. The truck pushed another vehicle into the intersection, asi was braking. I did not receive a ticket, and a police officer confirmed what i described.

2004 ford ranger, while driving engine shuts-off.the consumer stated several dealers and auto shops were unable to duplicate the problem.

The contact has a 2004 ford ranger. The fuel shut off valve was located at the front of the passenger seat under the dash board. The passengers can contact the component with their feet because of its position.this makes the engine shut down when driving. Hehad to pay to remove the valve and put it behind the kick panel on the right side. The manufacture was notified and he was advised that there was no warranty or recalls on this valve.he sent a letter to the president of ford motor company.the failure mileage was 24,000.

2004 ford ranger with 3.0 liter fuel injection. Both cylinder heads cracked around exhaust valve seats. Both heads had to be replaced. Mileage on vehicle is 46,000 miles and not abused.

The check engine light on my 2004 ford ranger kept coming on, i was told by one dealer that it was an emission signal and that it would reset. It did but kept coming back. The truck then started running bad, so i took it to another dealer, who told me that there was a technical service bulletin out about this problem and they had to replace both of my engines heads. And of course because of the miles on my truck, i would have to pay for these repairs. I said that if ford knew about this defect then why haven't they recalled these engines.

Rough running, misfire and a lack of power due to a loss of compression.

2004 ford ranger, 3l v6, engine light came on and dealer said was an injector prpoblem.took to another mechanicshop, who found zero compression on 5 and 6 cylinders, and the valve seats were damaged.injectors were okay. Both cylinder heads need replacing with the new . Cylinder headswhich wouldreplace the defective, original cylinder heads ,per the technical bulletin ford released on 05-26-2003, but failed to notify owners or recall the vehicles.this wasvery expensive, and fordcould be identified as a crap company for defrauding the public and robbing me.light came on at 55, 000 miles.

My 2004 ford ranger started idling rough and the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and they could not find a problem. They reset the check engine light and a few months later it happened again. This time the dealer found that there was no compression in three cylinders do to the valves not seating properly. The correction is to have both heads replaced, a cost that neither ford or my extended warranty company is willing to pick up. I am a 3rd generation ford owner and extremely irate that ford has not issued a recall considering that this is a very expensive mistake on their part, and that they are making the consumer pay for this. Ford is very much aware of the problem as they have issued a technical service bulletin for it.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that the brake lights malfunctioned and failed to illuminate when the brakes were engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the multi-function switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v352000 (exterior lighting). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 80,000.

Interior cab light will not shut off. Discovered while driving, continued even when stopped, and while parked with ignition off and doors closed. Very dangerous if light comes on during night time driving.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 92,000.

2004 ford ranger -fuel cutoff inertia sensor engages sporadically and requires reset to restart the vehicle.this has occurred at highway speeds, and required the driver to pull to the shoulder.power steering is lost when this occurs.depending on conditions and surrounding traffic this could be very dangerous.this issue has occurred on numerous occasions, under a variety of conditions.having a fuel system cutoff that can engage at-speed during normal driving is a terrible design flaw.

While driving with passenger, the inertia switch can be easily unattached or loosened. This causes the truck to randomly die.if the manual vehicle dies while driving at high speed, in bad traffic, or turns requiring power steering, the vehicle can be dangerous.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that the fuel pump shut off switch caused the vehicle to stall without prior warnings. As a consequence, her risk of a vehicle crash increased. The repair shop replaced the fuel pump shut off switch and installed a pressure reset locater kit. The failure mileage was 48,400 and the current mileage is 67,000. Updated 01/05/10 *ljwhen the problem resurfaced again, the consumer was informed the switch was no longer available and he would need to install a relocator kit for the fuel pressure switch. The reset button is now located behind the passenger kick panel where the fuses are located. Updated 01/05/10.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without any warning immediately after being started and could not be restarted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where they advised the contact that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On two occasions all power in this 2004 ford ranger vehicle shut down. The first time it would not restart and after checking the manual i reset the fuel pump shut off switch located beneath the glove box area and the vehicle restarted. 3/01/07, late evening, the vehiclelost all power on an expressway. Luckily, we were in the slow lane and could drift to the shoulder.i turned off the ignition before pushing the reset button for the fuel pump and it started. Ford motor customer care representative told me to take it to an assigned local dealer. The dealer said it will cost $59.95 for the diagnostic service and if this part is defective it is not within the 36,000 mile warranty and if ford pays a portion it would be a very small amount. I have read two other on-line complaints, almost identical.one was listed under electrical problems and the other one was under engine problems.i am glad we were not in the fast lane or had another vehicle following close behind. I have not replaced any parts at this time.

Dt:the contact stated this was a company fleet vehicle and it was leaking fuel.the vehicle has not been to a dealership.the company had another vehicle with the same fuel leaking problem due to a broken fuel line.the contact assumed the same problem existedwith this vehicle since the fuel was leaking from the same area.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger edge. The contact stated that he began to smell fuel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that one of the fuel lines near the fuel tank burst. The contact stated that he did not drive the vehicle off road. The vehicle lost half a tank of fuel so the vehicle was towed to the dealership because the contact was afraid it might catch fire. The vin was unavailable at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 115,000.

My ford 2004 engine will not start. Fuel shut off switch underneath the dashboard on passenger side is defective. Each time before starting i have to push this switch. This can be a huge safety issue. I hope my truck does not stop on the freeway with my kids in it.

Fuel cut off switch located under the dashboard on passenger's side was engagedon two separate occasions while driving at highway speed of 50 mph or more. The fuel cut off switch was engaged by the passenger's foot. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who replaced the fuel cut off switch. Consumer was concerned that the fuel cut off switch did not have a protective cover to prevent this incident from recurring.

Fuel pump failure 2004 ford ranger,2004 ford,2006 ford focus .i have a mechanic whom has replaced many bumps on ford vehicles over the past few years.i can't say with certainty if there are safety issues but this company [ford] has faulty parts in the pumps they install on there vehicles. How would someone explain various models with the same problem.

The inertia switch on my 2004 ford ranger tripped 4 times in one day, after i had it towed 30 miles, thinking my fuel pump had died.

July 19, 2015re: nhtsa recall 04v331000 july 15, 2004.on june 18, 2015, berglund ford of bedford, virginia refused to inspect my vehicle to determine if an improperly manufactured frame part exists that could rupture the gasoline tank during a side impact type of collision.1. A visual inspection is the only method to determine if the recall hazard exists. 2. Ford's computer records can only indicate if an inspection has occurred.3. It is impossible to determine logically if the recall hazard exists by using vehicle identification numbers. At the time of my request for an inspection, i was prepared to pay for the service because of the amount of time that has elapsed.also, when i requested the inspection of the frame and fuel tank, i became aware of an air bag recall that had been recently published for my model of light truck.berglund ford refused to address either recall situation for me because, "the computer did not call for it."i may own an extremely dangerous vehicle that could kill the occupants during a collision because of 2 federal safety recall issues that have existed since the vehicle was manufactured.(the fuel tank/frame and the passenger air bag).berglund ford has violated federal law and i request your assistance to remedy this.thank you.

Therear spring shackle, bracket rusting and fallingoff. The gas tank brackets rusted andcausiing tank too fall offthe rear frame rotted making truck unsafe for driving on the roadthe front frame of truck is ok no problem.it is just the rear frame rusted thru.the truck was makeing a thumping noise and when i stopedi hadnoticed that thesprings had broke thru bed of truck prompting me too inspect further why this happened and that is when i found all the other issues with the frame.and the tank.

The second incident the rear brakes seized to the point where the consumer was unable to drive the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. The cost for new brakes was $777.96. The dealer replaced the wheel cylinders, brake shoes and drums. The emergency brake cable was replaced

I was driving at the speed limit 60 mph requirement on i35 north when all of a sudden the my speed begin to accelerate on it on increasing up to 100 mph.i was scare out of my shoes not really knowing what was happening are knowing what i should do.i pressed on my brakes over, and over and it still didn't low down.i was afraid for my life and the traffic around me.i finally came up on an access exit and got off the freeway, but i almost hit someone because the traffic on the access road was merging and i was exiting at a high rate of speed.i just started blowing my horn repeatedly.other people driving around me had to think i was losing my mind to be driving that fast and exiting off the freeway, but it was out of my control.i turned my truck off, but it still was moving fast. When i came to a stop sign i had to roll right though it because the truck would stop.i pumped my breaks again, and again, it slowed up to some degree so it did, i then had to shift it into park to get it to stop. It almost through me out of the truck because of me having to shift into park to force it to stop. It was a frightening experience and i could have gotten killed are killed someone.it has placed fear in me when i'm driving it and more importantly, it has affect my power train/transmission due to this incident.i feel ford motors should be responsibility for giving me another truck are replacing my transmission. 2004 ford ranger caught on fire.***no answer required***.*mrwhile driving the vehicle suddenly began to vibrate.the driver looked out of the rear view mirror and saw sparks coming from under the vehicle.the vehicle suddenly lost all power and the driver had to coasted to the side of the road.at that time a bystander informed the driver that the vehicle was on fire and extinguished it with a fire extinguisher.when the clutch plate exploded itflew into a parked car catching it on fire as well.the vehicle was still under warranty but the manufacturer refused relief under the warranty stating that the transmission had been abused.the vehicle had been driven under 700 miles and only fro a month an a half.

Tranny dropped down causing vibration and vehicle pulled off road and towed. Found 2 cross supports rotted and separated also.body of truck is like new. Frame unsafe. Toyota recalled for this same reason. Ford needs to be held responsible also.

I was driving down the road to work on the interstate.i looked down and my o/d ( overdrive ) light was flashing.the truck was riding fine and then all of a sudden it goes into gear real hard.i am now driving with the o/d off which seems to control this but it is using a lot of fuel.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger.when the contact attempted to place the vehicle into gear, the engine revved uncontrollably.he had to depress the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from moving.once the vehicle was in gear, the gear shift lever would not return to the park position.he had to shut off the vehicle and remove the key.the failure occurred twice and once the vehicle shut off, it could be restarted without any further failures.the failure only occurred during cold starts.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 32,000 and current mileage was 32,700. The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that the transmission was faulty and the vehicle hesitated without warning. As a result, the vehicle lunged forward and almost struck other vehicles. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. I took my vehicle to have the diagnostics checked on it , because my engine light kept coming on , after having the plugs changed. The diagnostics said it was a fix it problem, with the valves, i then called the dealership, it seems the warranty has expired because of the mi. Being 66,000 my wife and i were planning to go out of town to visit our grandchildren, but cannot now. The dealership says they are aware of the problem but says there are not enough complaints to make a recall. I will be contacting everyone about this problem, please help us by telling everyone you know!! merry christmas ! who stole our christmas ford ! call your gov, officials help make this a recall not a fair warranty 3yrs or 36000 mi. Buy a foreign car from now on.

"o/d off" light flashing. When slowing down at toll booth transmission down shifted but rpm remained high. Had to stand on brakes to get vehicle to stop. Shifted into neutral rpm dropped slowly. Shifted back into drive and vehicle leaped forward. Found hundreds of complaints on internet regarding transmission problems with ford rangers and explorers between 2002 and 2004.

With less than 70k miles, the 5 speed auto transmission in my 2004 ford ranger (3.0 2wd) frequently refuses to engage gears when cold.when in drive or reverse, increasing engine speed produces engagement with a harsh thunk.shortly after i purchased this vehicle new, ford issued a recall for which the dealer placed an additive to prevent harsh shifts and prevent transmission damage.i assume this is a stopgap measure to allow the vehicle to exceed its warranty period.interestingly, an autoparts store cashier asked me if i had a ford ranger based on my description of the problem.

2004 ford ranger fx4. Auto transmission slips frequently, and also seems to "float" gears even at highway speeds. Transmission cannot seem to find right gear at times and often goes into either too low or too high of a gear. Transmission makes scraping noise when put into reverse. When shifting from one ghear to the next, (applicable to all gears)it often "jolts" the vehicle as opposed to making a smooth transition. Visited dealer on three occasions, nothing has been done because "no code comes up on the obd computer". Problem still occuring. Date given is date at which problem began.

2004 ford ranger fire started under hood.the consumer was advised that the cause of fire was due to a transmission fluid leak which leaked onto the wires and ignited.

Dt: 2004, ford, ranger xlt, front brakes ondriver's side are grabbing. The vehicle has been inrepairshop twice.consumer can mash the brakes down, andhears a grinding sound.dealership has looked at the truck, and they could not find any problems. When the weather is cool the brakes feel like they are freezing up. Also, hasbeen inspected by the dealership, who still could not find the cause of the problem. In addition, the front seal on the transmissionwas defective. The truck was having problems with the seal when it was taken to dealer for brake problems. The owner told the dealership to fix what evernecessary, and the seal was not fixed. The vehicle has 40,000 miles.

2004 ford ranger 3.0l 5spd automatic transmission changes gears in an excessive amount when inclining over the slightest hill (eg 5th to 4th to 3rd to 4th to 3rd).is not healthy for a transmission to act this way when not under strain.

While driving it feltas if the gears were going to jump. Consumer went out to start the vehicle, and went back into the house, and gears jumped from park into reverse, causing a collision. Consumer tookvehicle to dealerseveral times for this problem, and was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.

2004 ranger 4x4 aod trans slipped and missed shifts while under warranty. Took to winner ford newark de, was told "no codes came up, it's ok". Slipping continued, got worse, now, with 40,000 miles trans will shift late to 2nd, makes the shift very roughly, then o/d light flashes and trans will not shift into od.these symptoms are the same as many of the complaints with 2003 explorer auto trans.nhtsa should hold manufacturer accountable.

Noise at times. Felt likeit was slipping.

While braking any speed consumer heard a clunking noise. Dealership informed the consumer of the drivetrain failure. The problem was not resolved.

While driving 35 mph the rear end of the vehicle fish-tailed and caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.the vehicle crashed into a ditch and flipped on it's left side.the driver received minor scrapes and bruises.an independent mechanic determined the drive shaft on the rear end was the cause of the crash.please provide any further details. *nlm

2004 ranger made a scraping noise when in 2nd gear. When clutch is depressed to disengagegears or shift, the engine idle speed increases.the consumer was informed the idle had been reset, however the transmission could not be fixed because it was a design flaw. The noise became worse over time and eventually it started to affect the 4th and 5th gears. The gear shifter was replaced and the shift pattern had a lot of play.

I just bought a 2004 ford ranger regular cab in aug 2004.about 2 weeks ago after a heavy rain the whole inside of my vehicle was wet.it was wet from both the driver and the passenger head rests to the floor.it took a little over a week for the vehicle to dry out.i took it to the ford dealer that i bought it from and they told me that i had a defective window.they did not even have to look at the truck to tell me what the problem was.they had to order a new back window for me.the assistant service manager told me that the problem the seat back pushes out the back window and water can get inside.i am 6'4" and i have to have the seat all the way back to drive.when they replaced the window i talk to the auto glass company that they sub the work out to.he told me that this was a very common problem in the ranger regular cabs.he said that he has had a few vehicles that come in every 3 months to get a new rear window.i have also called ford and spoke with them about the problem.they offered little help.my new truck now smells like mold and mildew, but they will do nothing to fix that, even though it is their fault, or the window problem other than replace it if it happens again.i think that the seat is the major problem.not only does it push the glass out it also restricts the rear view of the truck while driving because the seats go all the way to the ceiling.what would happen in a accident if the seat pushes out the back window?

I recently purchased a 2004 ford ranger edge, regular cab.i am 5'10", and sit with my seat as far back as it will go in the truck.this, unfortunately caused my rear window to pop out of the truck.i took the truck back to the dealer, where they said that's a common problem with the make and year of my truck, and all ford is doing is reinforcing the windows.the windows are not a problem, it is the seat.the seat was not designed correctly for the truck, but ford is not willing to redesign the seats, recall the trucks, or upgrade trucks to extended cabs.this poses a problem because even after the window is fixed, the problem is going to happen again.and "god forbid" i ever get into a rear-end collision - what happens to my window, me, my seat, etc?!this problem ends up being more serious than ford is willing to take responsibility for, and i strongly feel this should be reported.i know for a fact it is not just my truck with the problem - a dealer and i went around trying out other trucks to see if they had the same problem on the lot, and sure enough, we pushed the seat all the way back, and the windows popped out.this was just sitting in the truck!!what happens in a collision???

Problems with visibility and seat head rest.*mrno answer required - no contact information provided.*mjjthe consumer stated the back of the driver and passenger seats was one piece incorporating into the head rest. The seat backs come very close to the ceiling of the cab allowing no visibility between the ceiling and the top of the seat.the back of the passengers seat blocked the view through the right side mirror.

Consumer insisted that the steering wheel was mounted too low. The consumer hit the steering wheel with his thigh when changing from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. There was not enough leg room to apply the brakes.upon the consumers inspection of the problem, he discovered a bolt in the seat track which did not allow the seat to extend fully to the rear position.the bolt was fine thread 2 1/2" long-wedge in track-one side worn.the bolt was removed and it worked fine. *sc

The consumer believes that the driver's seats design decreases the driver's peripheral vision and increases the chances of an accident.the solid piece incorporating the head rest was so high that there was no visibility between the top of the seats and the ceiling of the cab. *sc

Seat head restraints are so high that they prevent good visibility in rear view mirror or when looking back.

As i was driving, the bumper and spare tire came off almost causing an accident.

On november 2, 2012, i went to the place where i purchased my tires to have them rotated and the mechanic reported to me that my rear drum brakes where metal to metal.the next day i pulled the driver's side rear tire and drum and verified that there was no lining on one of the shoes.i purchased a new set of brake shoes (10") at autozone and on november 5, 2012 drove to my father's home to replace the defective shoes.upon removal of the old shoes, we discovered that the lining of the shoe on the other side of that same wheel was cracked down the middle and coming off on one end.we also noted that the missing lining was a bonded shoe and the cracked lining was a riveted shoe.this was confirmed after inspecting the shoes on the passenger side which appeared to be wearing normally but that side also had one bonded shoe and one riveted shoe.don't know why there would be a mix match of brake shoe types.the replacement shoes purchased from autozone were riveted only.i kept the original shoes for anyone's inspection.i recall having my vehicle being stuck from movement after sitting in my driveway, even after removal of the parking brake, on several different occasions.i had to shift from drive to reverse several times to get it to break free.the brake shoe problem could have been the reason behind that happening.

My vehicle is a 2004 ford ranger xlt pickup truck with 4 wheel drive.the vehicle is in excellent mechanical condition.the brake system malfunctioned, allowing the brake pedal to hit the floor.this incident occurred while i was pulling into a parking spot on a snow covered parking lot.the air temperature was very cold (0 deg. F) at the time, and the 4x4 system on the vehicle was engaged.when i applied the brakes as i was pulling into the parking spot, the brake pedal hit the floor so the vehicle did not slow down and there was no pulsing sensation from abs.as a result, my vehicle collided with a parked vehicle immediately in front of my vehicle.my vehicle and the other vehicle were both damaged as a result of this brake system failure.i have tried to reproduce the problem many times and have been unable to do so.the ford dealer in my town was unable to reproduce the failure and did not find any mechanical problem with the braking system.also the dealer stated that the abs controller on my vehicle cannot be upgraded with new firmware.the dealer invoice for the brake inspection is attached.i have found other reports on ford auto enthusiast forums of this same problem occurring to other ford ranger and explorer vehicles when the driver was making a tight turn at very slow speeds.so it seems there is a design defect with this particular ford braking system.

Was backing down part of my driveway which is fairly steep.when reaching point where wanted to stop, brake pedal would not budge so 2004 ford ranger continued rolling backwards until hitting tree in its path.it stopped then!damage was$4,000 and some. Truck is less than a year old with a little more than 12,000 miles use.ford said couldnt find anything wrong with brakes. Body shop repaired bed.

04 ford truck ranger( ford refused to honor warranty)**ccthe consumer reported a binding/seizing problem with the rear brakes. The dealer was unable to duplicate the consumers concern. The second incident the rear brakes seized to the point where the consumer was unable to drive the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. The cost for new brakes was $777.96. The dealer replaced the wheel cylinders, brake shoes and drums. The emergency brake cable was replaced

When the consumer attempted to apply the brakes, the vehicle failed to stop completely.the consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the cause has not been determined at this time. Please provide further details.

On saturday, june 20th my wife drove down our driveway and lost her brakes. The driveway is pitched about 15 degrees so the truck, a 2004 ranger with 60,000 miles, picked up speed. Pumping didn't help. She steered the curve thereby not flying into the shed; she aimed at a 10 foot deep flowering bush to avoid the stone wall and the truck went through, missed the ash tree, and came to a halt 200 feet down in the meadow. There had been no warning that the brakes were about to fail, no softness that either of us noticed, no warning light. The diagnosis at the dealership is that the master cylinder 'failed'; no lines broken, no fluids having leaked. I called ford and was told that since the car was out of warranty there was nothing ford would do, except report the incident to the engineering department to record for future reference. A master cylinder should outlive the rest of a vehicle. There can be no excuse for this. It is not just one of those things, like a flat tire.

Rear brakes rusted, holding springs rusted, support pins fell out and caused brakes to drag and become worn and overheated way before their time causing replacement about 30,000 miles before they should have been. Could have caused brakes to lock while driving.

Anti-lock brake failure caused excessive wear to front brakes of the vehicle.dealer and manufacturer are refusing responsibility for repair.

Traveling down lakeshore parkway at approx. 30 mph and noticed the car in front of me braking to avoid an accident. I hit my brakes with normal braking pressure, the brakes locked-up. I tried to steer to the left to avoid hitting the car in front of me, but when the brakes locked-up the truck kept going staight causing me to collide with the car in front of me. When the vehicle is repaired i will take it to the dealer to inspect.

Vehicleexperienced problems with the rear brakes locking up intermittently without warning during normal braking. Thiscaused the vehicle to skid out of control. Vehicle had been to the dealer on three separateoccasions. The dealer replaced various parts, butproblem recurred.when the bralkes locked up the truck went skidding into the middle of the intersection almost causing a wreck.the dealer cleanedthe brake shoes and resealed with silicon on the backing plate.the dealer also cleaned and adjusted the rear brakes..

Dt*: the contact stated while approaching an intersection at 40mph the vehicle in front stopped short.when the brakes were depressed the vehicle seemed to accelerate rather than slow down.the contact swerved to avoid a direct rear end collision, but clipped the vehicle in the right rear bumper.both vehicles sustained only minor damage.the police filed a report at the scene.the contact experienced two previous failures with the brakes, but no accidents resulted in the other incidents.the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the problem could not be duplicated. However, the dealer replaced the brake pads.

Dt: the contactowns a 2004 ford ranger edge.the contact stated he has been having brake problems with this vehicle. While driving at65 mph and applying the brakesthe vehicle would not stop.the pedal had a spongy feel when it was pressed down.the service dealer replaced the cap on the reservoir to the master cylinder.this did not remedy the problem. Then, the dealership replaced the reservoir, this still did not remedy the problem.the dealerreplaced the seals, and this seemed to stop the leak of the brake fluid, but did not help the braking capability.the braking problem resulted in an accident because he could not avoid an animal in the road.when he applied the brakes the vehicle skidded and he could not gain complete control of the vehicle.the vehicle flipped over six to seven times.the consumerwas driving75 mph when the accident occurred.there was one fatality, and two injuries as a result of this accident.the consumer has not contacted the manufacturer or the service dealer because of injuries sustained from the accident.the consumer left the vehicle in a tow yard in winslow, arizona.

I have a 2004 ford ranger with 12000 miles and the front brakes started to pulse very much.after taking it to a mechanic i was told that the front rotors were shot.the mechanic told me that the rotors metal was peeling off.i had the rotors replaced.i did save the old rotors.

I recently had to repair (at my cost) to have my rear brakes redone due to them locking up. Upon removal of the drums it was very evident that the brake shoes were delaminated (separated) causing my rear end of my truck to lock up and not move. This because this is not a wear issue. This is a safety issue. Truck has 46k miles.i am looking to trade it in on a toyota, which will be the first japanese vehicle that i have ever considered.rust is also starting to form between the bed and the gate.

I just had a conversation with a man by the name of brian at the phone number 1800-392-ford (that the dealer gave me)about my problem. I am very upset and will be filing a complaint about this as a safety issue to the safer cargov website. Among others.this is in regards to my 2004 for ranger edge 4x4. I just recently had to repair (at my cost) to have my rear brakes redone due to them locking up. Upon removal of the drums it was very evident that the brake shoes were delaminated (separated) causing my rear end of my truck to lock up and not move. Knowing that ford does not cover wear items" i figured that they would cover this because this is not a wear issue. This is a safety issue. Brake shoes should not separate (wear yes, separate no). A truck with 37 k miles should not have rear brake pads come apart period.if this is what ford calls quality then im very disappointed in my purchase. And as of now i am disappointed about the lack of concern of the potential safety problem this could cause. Its a good thing that i was not going 50 mph or higher when it locked up. Or on top of that have another person in the vehicle ..safety? or wear? your call quality ?

Brakes were improperly inspected by dealership service dept. On two occasions while under warranty, which led to undo repair bills. The rear brakes and wheel cylinders of my 2004 ford ranger truck leaked fluid which causedthe brake lining and all other springs & components to rust, break and parts to deteriorate.

2004 ford ranger truck customer states that the truck was under warranty when he brought the truck to the service department an complained about the brakes both times the technicians found nothing. Customer wants to be reimbursed**ccthe consumer stated the front and rear wheels were never removed to expose the leaking wheel cylinders. Over a period of time, the following year, brake fluid leaked at a slow pace and dissolved the brake lining and caused all the other springs and componets to rust and break.

The consumer complained about the brake pedal and gas pedal being too close together.the consumer applied the brake pedal and touched the gas pedal at the same time on many occasions.*sc

I would like to report poor design of brake and gas pedals , when wearing work boots if not careful you will push on gas pedal as you apply brake causing vehicle to not slow down and at times actually excelerating, this has happened twice , once resulting in accident during highway panic stop

Dt*:the contact stated while brake pressure was applied at a stop sign, due to the placement of the brake and accelerator pedal the two were pressed at the same time which caused the vehicle to lurch forward resulting in a rear impact collision.no one was injured and seat belts were used.minor damage was sustained to both vehicles.the police were contacted and a report was taken.the vehicle was not seen by a dealer. Updated 04/06/06.

Excessive rust on frame, spindles, rack and pinion, differential and wheel rims. Vehicle has 48k on odometer. Cause:(unknown)

The prolbem with this truck seating at the light the seat seems little be high can not see the street traffic light if you the first one, secondly the turning radius it is terrible when you turn to the left only goes 3/4 of the way while other trucks can turn 180 degrees one way it is fine to the left but to the right not good. This problem since we own the truck.

Driving down the road my spare tire and tire frame fell off. After picking every thing out of the road i noticed my frame was gone, my right rear spring and shackle are not connected to the rest of the frame. The whole undercarriage is gone. I bought this truck new and took care of it. The last two years rust is overwhelming the truck..basically the truck is scrap with a little over one hundred thousand miles. Tried calling ford but ...i never complain but i got robbed.....

I am second owner always garaged at night. The frame and all part are rusting from the under side out.the front and rear bumpers are a safety issue. They are rusting because the frame and the mounts are rotting away.i have a fear rear bumper (or spare tire) fall off while driving....or the rear spring shackle, bracket rusting, falling off.the ford ranger frames are just as bad (or worse) than the toyota ones that were recalled (toyota was made to replace the frames, or buy back the trucks). These trucks are from 1995 to 2000 and past.i amsteaming mad over the rear of my frame completely rusting away, while the rest of the truck is in beautiful condition,

Dt: the consumer was unable to see odometer. The consumer stated the odometer could not be seen in daylight or at night. They can't do anything about it until the manufacturer has a recall. Manufacturer said they would report it to engineering.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. While attempting to have the vehicle inspected, rust was observed on the frame of the vehicle. The vehicle failed inspection. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cross member and brackets failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v331000 (structure). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. Rot has appeared in bed of truck.rot has come from underside of bed, seemingly due to a fabric that holds moisture and water, that is in direct contact with underside of bed, causing rust to form and eventually rot through the bed.in the past 4 months, one hole approximately 5 inches in diameter, another 2 inches in diameter and third hole is forming.i am concerned that there is rot forming on the frame members, and if this will lead to an unsafe condition during driving or in the event of an accident.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the spare tire fell and detached from the vehicle due to the bracket being corroded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they stated that the sub frame was also corroded and both the bracket and sub frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified, who in turn informed him, there was no recall. The failure mileage was 59,000. Updated 09/05/13*lj

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact was examining the vehicle and discovered two holes under the outside of the door latch. The contact stated that with the failure, a screw driver could be used to unlock the vehicle from the outside. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileages were 25,000.

Noticed that the bed was moving excessively.it appears that the front mounts for ford rangers are prone to rusting out, leaving the bed secured at the rear.an internet search has confirmed many cases where the front mounts fail.while my vehicle is 10 years old, there are reports of failures in vehicles significantly newer.

Incredible amounts of premature rust on frame and suspension parts, shackle brackets rusted away completely and had to be replaced.frame is rusting at an unprecedented pace!?

The rear bumper frame has rusted out and detached from vehicle. Loading brush into truck bed, stepped on bumper, and it collapsed. Checking the rear frame, springs, and suspension shows extended rust, making the vehicle unsafe to drive.

Took truck for state inspection and garage called 2 days later, said they can't inspect it due to frame being cracked in 2 places and frame is rotted away. Truck only has 66930 miles on it and looks in very good shape. I was shocked when they pointed out the problems. I called ford motor co and they won't do anything about it. Truck has been driven up to that point.

My wife sat on the tailgate of the vehicle, and both tailgate support cables snapped at the same time causing her to be dropped onto the ground, and injuring her knee.neither of the cables had shown any physical damage, and the rubber exterior coating of the cables was still fully intact.upon my inspecting the cables after they had broken, both steel cores were in fact corroded.

I purchased this 2004 ford ranger this past winter in hopes to pull my boat to the lake with it. Yesterday. I pulled my small bass boat to lake chickamauga and back which is about a 40 minute drive. It was a straight drive on a highway only going 50 mph. When i got back my hitch, bumper and all was hanging. The frame is so rusted it broke in half. Had i not installed an after market hitch on this truck my whole bumper would have come off along with the boat that was attached and probably would have killed whoever was behind me ot not myself. I cant imagine what wouod have happened of i was on the interstate at higher speeds.the only thing holding it all together was the front bolt on the hitch when i got home. This is absolutely unsafe and i know there are many others that have problems with this same vehichles frame that have not taken the time oit of their busy schedule to complain about.

The frame and underbody including bed and bed crossmembers are rusted so badly that the spare tire fell out! there are large holes in the frame and bed.this is a known issue and there are many discussions and photos about it online. Luckily the vehicle wasn't moving quickly when the tire fell out.

The rear part of the frame rotted bad..the spare tire hold fell off first..then not long after the rear bumper fell off on hiway ..after close inspection..the frame is brittle like a saltine cracker...plus the rear spring shacle rusted before an hed replaced...actually my son was driving my truck when the bumper fell off...taking rear tail pipe with it...when the spare tire holder fell off the day before..it took all the emission stuff along with it..this truck has only 150,000 miles on it ..the frame is rusted bad..never been in salt water..i have trucks older than this with solid frames when 25 years old....i have read on forums here after this happened and seems its a common thing with some year rangers,,,t4ruck is in a1 shape but now useless due to poor quailty steel

This vehicle was involved in an intersection roll-over accident on 21 dec 2009. Usaa declared the truck a total loss.i obviously no longer own or drive this truck. I checkedthe box no longer own this vehicle several years ago and mailed it back but still get my monthly reminders to have my air bags replaced. By the way, the air bags did not deploy

Extreme rust including frame, bed side panels, bed floor, tailgate. Noticed spare tire fell from underside due to rust of frame. Luckily found while vehicle was parked. Frame cross members almost rusted through. Inspection may not pass soon.

Rusted and rotten out frame. The rest of the vehicle is in real good condition. Frame is cracked thru in a few places and close to were the spring is mounted to the frame.

Rear end of frame completely rusted out. Leaf springs broken. Spring shacklebroke off. Brought the truck in for service unaware there was so much irreparable damage. Damages occurredwhile driving on a city street. Pieces of the body were missing. Exact date damages occurred is unknown.

As i was driving, the bumper and spare tire came off almost causing an accident.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger.the contact stated that the vehicle was taken for a routine oil change when it was advised that there was rust around the control arm where it was mounted to the frame. There was a manufacturer's recall initiated to address the corrosion issue however, the contact's vehicle had exceeded the five-year rust warranty. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect.the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Rear leaf spring bracket rusted off from frame, while loaded and on route home from tree nursery.rear frame sections rotted and cracked on vehicle with only 72000 miles, found when trying to replace blown brake line in rear drivers side (rusted).

The entirety of the frame and undercarriage is covered in rust and corrosion. The sides of the bed of the truck are rusting out. The front suspension is rusted through. This truck has never been flooded or exposed to excess water or moisture aside from rain.

Excessive frame rust. Rails and cross bed supports. 2 of the bed mounting bolts rusted off and also the rust ate through whatever was holding the spare tire on. Not sure where or when that fell off. I was reading many articles about the 04 ford ranger with the same frame rot issues.

The frame broke in two on said vehicle.

The frame on the passenger side of my truck has rusted out and broke apart from the cab. The other frame on the driver's side is still holding up the bed, but it will soon give way. There was no accident, nor was the vehicle abused. I realized the problem after i became concerned over the truck beginning to sway when i was driving. Nobody has ever heard of this happening like it did. My truck is basically junk now. It is 10 years old and never had engines problems nor electrical issues. I do not know if this will result into anything, but this needed to be filed in case i'm not the only one.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that both sides of the bed exhibited rust corrosion. In addition, the rear sub frame and bumper were completely rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failuremileage was 130,000.

Heavy rust on the frame. Today the spare tire fell off while going down the highway due to heavy rust.no injury to property or people from the incident.

The frame, underbody, shocks, axels have rusted. The frame has almost completely rusted through. The upper body has been well maintained and is in great condition.this vehicle only has 84,000 miles on it.

Paint is chipping and fading on vehicle.keeps getting worse every day.i also had a 1995 ranger and it did the same thing and it was covered so why wouldnt this ranger?

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. Upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance, the mechanic diagnosed that the bar that held the fuel tank in line had extensive rust and corrosion. The failure could cause the bar to fracture. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at solomon ford, llc (502 national pike w, brownsville, pa 15417 (724) 785-5500), the technician informed the contact that the subframe was rusted and may detached from the vehicle soon. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

2004 ford ranger edge has rusted rotten rear fame, shackels rusted, shocks rusted, bed rusted under bedliner bumper fell off.beautiful truck with no body rust. The rear section of frame is rotten. Frame will certainly break down to make the truck not driveable shortly. It is impossible to find a used frame in the salvage yard, because they are already rusted through. Help!!!!

While driving, the spare tire started to fall off due to rusting away of the mounting apparatus.luckily i noticed it when i stopped for gas (it was hanging by only a bit of still attached rusted metal below the truck) so i cut the cable with some bolt cutters to remove the spare and prevent an accident while driving.driver's side cab mount separated due to excessive rust.driver's side floor board fell out due to excessive rust - my foot went through the floor.frame cracked near rear shackle due to excessive rust.frame cracked near driver's side rear shock mount due to excessive rust - excessive play and noises caused be to discover this.bed rusted completely out - above wheel wells on both sides, center of bed, front corners.it came off the truck in several pieces after i put my foot right through the center.the frame rust issues and spare tire falling off could be serious safety problems.i have driven a number of vehicles for many years and never experienced rust issues like on this truck.way beyond what is reasonable and expected.

I was driving down the road while working one day last summer and the rear crossmember completely rotted away and fell off my truck taking the evap emissions canister with it when it went i was going 45 and luckily i saw it and heard it and no one was behind me but the frame in this vehicle has completely rotted away the crossmembers are all cracked or gone the frame rails are split and it will not pass inspection this year and i also lost the stair tire mount while driving the rear exhaust and the catalytic converter heat shield all while driving some on the highway i am disabled recently and can't afford a new vehicle or repairs and there's no reason this should have happened at all i need the vehicle to make my physical therapy and doctors appointment weekly please help if you can thank you

Frame rusted out on passenger side behind front leaf sprinf mount. Also the cross member holding fuel tank where it connects to the frame is rusted out. Its only the back half of the truck rusting out this bad. Where the spare tire goes is also completly rusted out and fell off. This happened while driving on smoothly paved roads to and from work

While driving along a secondary road near my home the left rear frame rail in front of the rear spring broke in half causing the truck to swerve into the other lane, no one was hurt just shaken up, the frame rail is really rusted. Also the right side frame rail is cracked and rusted..

1)there had been a light rain a short time earlier.2)on a 2004 ford ranger 4x4 pick up; there is a tube step with a rubber step area. As i went to get into the vehicle, i made sure that i was on that rubber area (since it had just rained). As i went to step in, my foot slid off the rubber area; my toe went between the door and the door jam, my heel locked to the tube. I then fell back and hit the ground, while my foot stayed locked in the door jam area.i have had to have knee surgery and now have a blown disk in my lower back that we are trying to correct at this time.i have been off work since this happened!3)if ford would have had " a better idea"; they would have just put the sandpaper non-skid in the area and this hazzard would not be there.i want to know what is going to be done! or is an attourny needed?

Past safety recallsotification datecomponent descriptionnhtsa campaign number /3/2004structure: frame and members:underbody shields04v331000 .i brought my 2004 ford ranger to the dealer this day 12-13-2004 and when i mentioned this recall to inspect for this possible frame problem the service writer at the "world ford" dealer in miami, fl. Told me there is no recall.what do i do now?

Frame has issues with severe surface rust problems and possible more deeper rusting underneath. Worried brackets, hangers and other parts in time will corrode to the point of failure.

Frame rusting out from under truck, noise when i turn to steer, and spare tire fell off.

I own a 2004 ford ranger. The frame is two parts front and back held together by rivets. The front half of the frame looks in good shape, normal wear and tare for a 2004 truck but the back section of the frame including shock mounts and gas tank mounts are a rusty rotting mess. Its like perfect line. If the hole frame was like this i would say ok its a 2004 truck but its not. Seems to me this is a manufacturer flaw.

Incredible amounts of premature rust on frame and suspension parts, shackle brackets rusted away completely and had to be replaced.frame is rusting at an unprecedented pace!?

Frame rail not formed correctly defective.

As i was driving, the bumper and spare tire came off almost causing an accident.

Frame rusting out from under truck, noise when i turn to steer, and spare tire fell off.

Excessive rust on frame, spindles, rack and pinion, differential and wheel rims. Vehicle has 48k on odometer. Cause:(unknown)

The passenger side frame rail rusted out.

We noticed extreme tire wear on the rangers front tires, which at the time had 7840 miles on it.i immediately took the vehicle to bay harbor ford.the service person explained that the tires were only warranteed for 12 months or 12,000 miles. On april 27th , i arrived early and spoke to the service manager, mr. Jim basilotto. He looked at the vehicle and agreed there was an alignment problem.i explained that the vehicle is garage kept and it is only driven back and forth to work on the local roads. The vehicle has never been off- road or even on bad roads and never traveled farther than port charlotte, fl. She or i can not ever remember hitting a pothole that would come close to causinga problem. The service people put the car on the lift and checked the tie rods by trying to wiggle them while the vehicle had its full weight on the tires. ( i personally check front end parts by raising the wheels off the ground and check for play in the ball joints also)the tire pressure in all 4 tires was low (lower 20 psi) and they added air. Again the tire pressure is as it was when it left the showroom.it is our conclusion that the alignment problem had to exist when we left the dealership with the vehicle and should be covered under the warranty.in comparison, my 2001 explorer has 53,000 miles on it and the tires are in great shape. It has been off road on many occasions, through the worst bone jarring potholes on the cross bronx expressway and never had any alignment problems.i now have to pay to get a wheel alignment and a new set of tires for the ranger and it only has 7845 miles on it.i feel that the dealership should have covered the tires and alignment under the 3 year , 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

The front subframe where the lower control attaches has separated or broken due to rust. I was headed home from work, under normal driving conditions, with no extra load on vehicle. I hit a bump going thru parking lot n heard a pop. I had stopped at gas station n seen that driver side wheel n tire were not straight up n down, it was at a degree or angle. Got underneath n seen that subframe was rusted all the way thru where lower control arm was attached

Tranny dropped down causing vibration and vehicle pulled off road and towed. Found 2 cross supports rotted and separated also.body of truck is like new. Frame unsafe. Toyota recalled for this same reason. Ford needs to be held responsible also.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the rear shackles failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that there was corrosion around the control arm where it was mounted to the frame. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000. Updated 06/18/14*lj updated 06/24/2014 the consumer stated the repair technician advised the steel rim was leaking at the weld seam where the two halves joined. The spare tire rim and holding device were rusted and rendered the tire could unable to be removed. The vehicle was repaired. Updated 06/24/2014

Front subframe crossmember that holds suspension components has broken due to rust.

The rear bumper frame has rusted out and detached from vehicle. Loading brush into truck bed, stepped on bumper, and it collapsed. Checking the rear frame, springs, and suspension shows extended rust, making the vehicle unsafe to drive.

The frame, underbody, shocks, axels have rusted. The frame has almost completely rusted through. The upper body has been well maintained and is in great condition.this vehicle only has 84,000 miles on it.

Spring shackle fell off, frame is rusted, ready to break, cross member is rusted off.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was taken to the dealer for regular maintenance, the tires were worn.upon inspection, the technician discovered the rear suspension settled after a period of time and resulted in excessive wear in the middle of the tires.the vehicle is currently undergoing additional testing before repairs are made.

Rear end of frame completely rusted out. Leaf springs broken. Spring shacklebroke off. Brought the truck in for service unaware there was so much irreparable damage. Damages occurredwhile driving on a city street. Pieces of the body were missing. Exact date damages occurred is unknown.

The right rear frame is badly rotted to the point where the leaf spring broke off the frame. That allowed the body to come in contact with the gas tank and shorted out one of the transmission wires. The front bumper is rusted out on the passenger side corner. The rusted frame is the big issue.

Thefront subframe that holds all the suspension components has broken due to rust.

While driving my 2004 ford ranger, only had 60,000 km's on it, down the highway at about 80 kmph, the left side of the rear axle broke, as i was going over a bridge causing loss of control and striking a bridge, tearing up 20 feet of guard rail and railing 5 times. The air bags also did not deploy as they should have as front bumper hit bridge rail directly. Was cleaned up by police and tow company. Insurance company had the vehicle and believe they may have scraped it as they did not want it on the road again.

The frame and all associated components rotted away.this left the spare tire dangling dangerously unsupported.this also left the fuel tank unsupported and at risk of falling at any moment.all drive train components and suspension are no longer stable and the vehicle is no longer safe to operate.the vehicle has only 52,000 miles.

My 2004 ford ranger pickup has 45,265 miles on the odometer. I brought the vehicle to the local ford dealership to get brake work done plus another issue as outlined in nhtsa complaint/confirmation#10151518. I was trying to get my vehicle an inspection sticker for the state of massachusetts as well.i was told that i need new lower ball joints pn#f87z-3050-ba in order to get my sticker.my vehicle is a 2004, with 45.264 miles of highway and secondary road usage only! no off road or severe usage at all!ball joint replacement and required front-end alignment cost me over $430.00! i have the bad ball joints in my possession.vehicle is driven by me daily, to and from work only!

Front suspension causes shims needed in front end alignment to wear prematurely and cause front tires to wear incorrectly on inside of front tires.needed to get front end alignment.ford knows about this and does warranty these part for 12,000 miles or 12 months.spoke with ford tech and agreed with me that this problem is not noticeable until well after that time frame.

On march 06,06. Exactly 2 months after taking delivery of a"quality checked preowned " 2004 ford ranger pickup from a local dealership while driving to work at 4:30 am s/b on the i 15 suddenly, without warning the vehicle veered hard left slammed into the center gaurdrail then flipped and rolled causing vehicle to be a classified as a total loss by insurance co. After inspection of vehicle i was drawn to the fact that the front left wheel assembly including brake rotor and hub were detached from vehicle and after further inspection it appears that the wheel bearing retaining assembly is at fault. The spindle is flat on both top and bottom of the threaded tip where the where the axle nut threads should mesh and hold, but the threads of the nut are designed in such a manner as to not be continuous, but instead they are separated to where 2/4 s of the inside area is threaded and the other 2/4 s has no threads and are staggered in such a way as to allow the axle nut if allowed to spin at all even just 1/8 of a turn to pop off with little resistance except for the small looking cotter pin which came out in pieces maybe because the pressed metal castle nut wanna be which is of a loose fitting style could easily have worn the cotter pin with its rather sharp edges seemingly from just normal use and even more so if the wheel was not adjust perfectly or if the wheel seal was not seated perfectly which after some time would cause a more pronounced looseness in the whole assembly thus causing the aforementioned dangerous results. I was shocked when i saw the system used and i cannot for the life of me which i am lucky to still have understand how that design could be considered safe above other designs that are of solid materials with constant threads that would have to spin completely offmany complete turns rater tan jus 1/8 to 1/4 of one turn. Please would you look into this before other trucks make unannounced turns for the worse. Thank you.

Component: suspension:front:wheel bearingdetails: on april 26, 2008, a minor rhythmic squeaking sound was noticed from beneath vehicle while driving.on may 3, 2008, upon raising vehicle on lift, mechanic noticed that the entire right wheel assembly including brake rotor, abs component and hub dropped from vehicle.an entire wheel assembly was needed (+$500).as an emt who responds to vehicular accidents in this rural state in all kinds of weather i was floored to think how close i was to driving the vehicle as the wheel assembly separated from the ranger.based upon other reports (odi case number: 10155010) i consider myself fortunate, thank god.

At 45,000 miles my 2004 ford ranger 4x4 had a failure of the front wheel bearings hub causing tire to lock up. Needed to be replaced. Was told by the repair shop there was very little grease in the unit.

Excessive tire wear (inside edge) on front tires at low mileage (5,000+) and continuing.vehicle has been aligned by the dealer twice since purchase.

Dt*: the contact stated the spare tire rim was 16 inches instead of 15 inches and the tire itself was 70 series instead of 75 series.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who did not find any problem.the consumer is requesting a proper sized spare tire. Updated 12/26/06.

Consumer spare tire was not the correct size to fit on 2004ford ranger.the dealer was not willing to givethe consumer a spare tire at their expense.

Consumer'swife was driving up a hill in arizona at 70-75 mph and heard a noise coming from the rear tire.later, discovered that driver's side rear tires tread came off. This causedthe vehicle to skid and flip over.both consumer and wife sustainedinjuries.

Rotted sub-frame-will not pass ny state inspection-this truck has 27,817 miles

Frame is rotting away, large holes in the rear half of the frame can be found, you can push your fingers thru the frame in spots. The rear shackle brackets came completely off with the frame. Can mounts and bed mounts are rusting/ falling off. Spare tire well fell off with spare tire while driving. Charcoal filter fell off during driving. Frame is cracked on passenger side between can and bed. Truck only has 115770 miles and the rear half of the frame from the cab back is literally falling apart.

2004 ford ranger pickup frame is rusted and to the point that it has brokeand is separating, causing the truck to bend in half, bending the box and the cover that is on it.this has caused problems with the power train of the truck , the 4 wheel drive, and the universals on the truck. This truck has less then 55000 miles on it. The frame did not appear to be is bad shape until this happened, and the rust that wasaround the craked frame became visible, actually flaked of in sheets 1/4 " thick.!!!

Dash/radio surface bubbling upcosmetic/appearance defect.

The passenger side frame rail rusted out.

Frame is rusting completely thru it has only 75000 miles on it and has been garage kept .i purchased it from a dealer in pa and live in wv purchased it in 2018

My rear frame is rotted to point where my rear spare tire fell off while driving.

The first time, i made a left ,after the light changed, and the back end made 180 degree swing to my right.i was able to pull the wheeland put the truck back in the lane.traffic in the lanes to my right where held back by the red light.the next time i was coming to the corner to makea left at about 35 mph and the truck made two 360 degree spins and one 180 degree flip and stopped just before an overnightparked semi-truck, also the three cars coming to the light arrived just after my truck came to a stop. Both times it happened on a city street and not on the highway thank god. !!! the truck has not moved since.!!!!!

While driving 45 mph vehiclesuddenly accelerated.consumer applied both feetto the brake pedal and vehicle continued to accelerate, causing the vehicle to hit an embankment and roll over more than twice. Driver and passengersustained neck and back injuries and were transported by ambulance to the hospital.vehicle was totaled out by the insurance company. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy.

After making a right turn, the vehicle accelerated and lurched forward and crashed into a bridge. The consumer drove the vehicle home and a tow truck picked the vehicle up and took the vehicle to the dealer. The problem was not determined.

While drivingvehicle suddenly accelerated on its own.this sudden accelerationoccurred more than thirty times since ownership of the vehicle.four different dealersexamined the vehicle, and none of them could find the cause of the problem.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was at an idle, the engine revved and lurched forward.the vehicle was inspected by the dealer, but was unable to duplicate the problem.the manufacturer was alerted. Updated 6-15-06the door ajar light is on.dealer lubed the locks and latches.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger.he received a safety recall notification in august 2007. Every month the dealer stated that the part would be available the following month. The purchase date was 04/2000. The current mileage was 114,000.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger.in august of 2007, the contact received a recall notice for the vehicle speed control.the dealer did not receive the parts from the manufacturer to repair his vehicle.each time the contact calls the dealer, he is informed that the parts are still unavailable.in january of 2009, he received another recall notice, which stated that he did not comply with the first notice.on february 4, 2009, the dealer stated that the parts were available for the repair.the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown.the failure mileage was 80,000.

While coming to a stop (twice) the ford ranger engine accelerated suddenly to a point it could not be completely stopped with the brake system.had any traffic been coming i would be a dead man.i did not have my foot on accelerator nor are there any floor mats in this truck to get stuck under the accelerator.i'm scared to death to drive this vehicle and i know that if i bring it to the ford garage that its going to cost tons of money and they are going to say they don't see anything wrong.there is obviously a serious problem with a control mechanism somewhere.this has happened twice.once after driving the vehicle about a mile.the second time (today) after driving for hours.can you please help me out i really am scared to drive this truck.

The engine controller tends to hold the engine speed between 2000 and 2500 rpm when my foot is not touching the accelerator pedal. This behavior is most obvious when the clutch is depressed while changing gears. The engine rpm is held artificially high (way above normal idle) for as long as i depress the clutch, up until the point that the vehicle has coasted almost to a complete stop.i believe that the computer also does this when the clutch is engaged. For example, if i remove pressure from the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to coast with the clutch engaged while in third gear on a level road, the vehicle never slows down below approximately 30 mph (corresponding to approximately 2000 engine rpms). Also, while descending a hill in a low (2nd/3rd) gear using engine braking (not touching the gas pedal), i can feel the truck spontaneously accelerate. I first took the truck to the dealer for this complaint on 10/22/04. The technician confirmed the behavior, inspected various sensors, probed the computer for error codes, and eventually resorted to resetting the computer in hopes that the problem would magically disappear. This of course did not fix the problem, so i returned to the dealership on 11/16/04 with the same complaint. They researched the issue and found that it is a "normal characteristic" of the vehicle, supposedly added to the computer program to improve emissions. Aside from being annoying, i believe that this "feature" could pose a safety problem because it reduces the effectiveness and predictability of engine braking on down-hill grades. Engine braking is very important in my area because of the steep, frequently snow-covered roads.

(1) when i (the driver) have attempted to stop the vehicle (a 2004 ford ranger with automatic v-6),the throttle fails to disengage and even appears to be working to overcome the brakes.this has occurred (3) times since the vehicle's purchase on july 30, 2005. (2) while the occurrences appear random in nature, the engine races, tires spin/squeal even with the brake pedal fully depressed.the problem has occurred each time when the engine is warm and always when attempting to come to a stop at low speeds, such as at a stop sign or in a parking lot.no accident has occurred yet, however, this was purely a matter of luck and timing.(3) the vehicle has been returned to the ford dealership twice and no corrective actions have taken place, as the dealership can not duplicate the random event.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently surge forward while driving at various speeds. The failure also occurred when the cruise control was engaged. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions in which they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. Updated 07/20/11*ljthe dealer replaced the cruise control swtich. Updated 02/06/12

Dt*: the contact stated intermittently the vehicle accelerated while attempting to stop.this occurred 4-5 times.on one occasion, while stopping at an intersection 10 mph, the vehicle began to gain speed even though the contact was applying brake pressure.the contact shifted the vehicle to neutral and it began to decelerate.the dealership has been alerted.

While driving 50 mph, the accelerator pedal became stuck and the vehicle accelerated to 70 mph. The consumer hit a wall. The vehicle was towed.

Repeatedly hit the accelorator pedal when applying brakes.

The vehicle experienced an acceleration problem.when driving downthe road the accelerator will remain open even after consumer tookfootoff the accelerator pedal, and the rpms will hold at 3,000 rpms.the consumer contacted the dealer, and was told that this wasdesigned to reduce fuel emissions.this defect occurred intermittently.*sc

The contact owns 2004 ford ranger. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph with the accelerator pedal stuck in an open position. The brake pedal was applied numerous times without a response. Immediately, the gear selector was shifted into the neutral position. The vehicle continued to accelerate. The anti-theft lockwarning light indicatorilluminated, followed by a loss of power steering. The vehicle finally came to a complete stop after repeated pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated that the failure was contributed to the speed control cable. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the speed control cable was disabled and removed from the vehicle. The contact was concerned about the safety hazard regarding the defect. The failure mileage was 149,978. Updated 09/28/10. *lj

The problem the windshield is lower than normal on the 2004 ford ranger causing the driver view hard to see the street light.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger with 35000 miles. The contact stated that while driving at any speed he had blind spots while changing lanes. He would look in his mirrors and would not see anything but there would be a vehicle right next to him. The contact has adjusted the mirrors but that still has not solved the failure. The manufacturer and dealer were unable to resolve the failure.

Windshield wipers frequently either do not work at all or will stop working in the middle of operation. Condition comes and goes with no apparent warning or trigger. Condition occurs in all kinds of weather or operating conditions.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger. The contact stated that when the sun or any form of light would strike the windshield, the contact was blinded. The contact mentioned that the final sheet in between the two plates of glass had developed bubbles. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the windshield needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 118,000.

Truck has been sent to the shop three times already; 1. Transmission problems, back window popped out, check engine light remained on-----put in new valve body in, put window in and reset check engine light.2. Transmission problems, check engine light on------new purge valve canister in engine, fuel pump, new fuel tank.3. Transmission problems(transmission slips), rear window out again.2. Transmission problems, check engi

Dt*: the contact stated when the front left seat was reclined to the full extent; the back of the seat came into contact with the rear window, popping the glass out of the seals.the service dealer and manufacturer had not been notified.

Right passenger mirror failed while on highway.glass portion only popped out while on the highway.

The contact owns a 2004 ford ranger.when the contact reduced the speed of the windshield wipers, the wipers continued to operate at a fast speed.the windshield wipers failed to stop, causing him to disconnect them from the engine compartment.he then had to reconnect the wipers when they were needed again.the repair shop stated that the motor needed to be replaced.the current mileage was 44,000 and failure mileage was 41,000.
