I'm interested in knowing about the safety of my passengers as of right now i have to cut off the passenger side airbag / and am worried about transporting my young great neice & or nephew picking them up from some school functions ....and would appreciate a call or letter knowing this is going to soon be taken care of ..thanks

Consumer was involved in a 35 mph frontal crash in which the driver side air bag did not deploy. Please give further details.

Brakes locked up a 50 mph, hit large grass/dirt bank at 40 mph aprox. And air bag did not deploy.

Air bag that is present now has not on/off switch.requesting a passenger airbag change.

Airbag failed. First accident driver was rear ended at 45mph; the other time, driver rear ended someone else. Both times airbag did not deploy.

The contact owned a 1995 ford ranger. While driving 35 mph, the contact's vehicle was involved in a crash with another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt pretensioner failed to operate as intended. As a result, the contact suffered a fractured c7 and t5 vertebrae. The contact was transported to the local hospital and then to uva medical center to seek medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent facility. A police report was filed. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the office of chief counsel would respond within 15 days. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

Airbag on driver's side deployed incorrectly.airbag came out flat and then it inflated. As a result, consumer was hit in face with cover.please provide any further information.

Purchased ranger splash in 2001 with 74,000 miles.it started dinging as if the door was open with the key in the ignition non-stop while i was driving with the door shut.this is a loud, piercing ding.i had the switch replaced and 75,000 miles later it started happening again.the dome light will not go off unless the fuse is removed.the speedometer intermittently stops working.the wipers occasionally come on at full speed and sometimes will not shut off.the lights occasionally stop working then start working again on their own.the paint peeled off the hood.the old starters went bad constantly.truck would start in cold weather but not warm weather because pieces of the starter would chip off.the swelling in the heat made these chips get stuck and keep truck from starting.after several starters were replaced, they finally developed a new kind.it has several electrical problems as described above but it has 180,000 miles on it and is still running...with its own little personality.

Electrical system malfunctioned, causing the dome light and the door light to stay on, andbrake warning light to come on.dealer replaced the sensor on the door.problem is still reoccurring.please provide further information.

Electrical short. *sd

I am an owner of two ford ranger pick ups and had owned another ranger in the past. All t here vehicles have had the same electrical problem door chimes dinging non stop, dome light failure, radio power failure and windshield wipers turning on and off all by themselves without the key being in the ignition. I made several complaints to ford and was told to stop harassing them. My dealership said and i quote "you're just being a woman." well this after noon the problem took a very serious turn. Returning home from a vacation my 1995 ford ranger ex cab xlt 2.3 liter engine. Began to experience a electrical system failure. It started with power lose to the radio then a power surge to the wipers, and throughout the electrical system and those areas of persistent concerns. Then they all stopped. I now have a complete failure of brake lights, speed control, odometer (let's trust that read out),interior lights, radio and several other systems. I attempted to find a fuse or relay to repairs them but all of those were intact and replacement made no change. Estimated damager and repair cost is well above a grand. I complained about this issue since 1996 and have been ignored by ford.*la

The contact owns a 1995 ford ranger. The contact stated that the chime box in the instrumental panel would emit a very loud noise that was impossible to turn off. The failure caused the overhead lights to remain illuminated. The dealer was notified and they were aware of the failure. The only remedy was to replace the chime box. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 175,000.

Door ajar warning light and/or warning chime comes on randomly.also, dome light does not shut off after shutdown, exiting and locking vehicle. As repair, dealer replaced door switches on three occasions, but the repair did not last.recent repair by another dealer came up with the ignition switch as faulty.this was replaced but this repair did not evn last 24 hours.i suspect the electronic module (gem), but the dealers seem reluctant to try remove & replace of it.do i just have a lemon, or have there been other complaints and.or tsbs.i found some in the data base; nhtsa items sb051878, sb051590 and sb 051449; along with odi's 852639,983634.

Electrical problems, causing the headlights/windshield wiper motor, and interior lamp to come on unexpectedly.

The electrical system failed.the radio failed first then became progessively worse including the dome light, exterior dome light, check engine light, windshield wipers and washers coming on without prompt or notice, door chime staying on when door is closed and abs locks up, etc.

Faulty shock absorbers, causing front end noise. Also, experiences electrical problems.

I was pulling a small trailer going about 15mph out of my driveway and felt the trailer drop off of the vehicle i stopped and got out and noticed that the last 2 feet of the rear frame rails fell out taking the license plate lights and bumper with it. After i realized that the rear frame rusted out, i inspected the whole vehicle and found that the radius arm bracket has holes in it, i had to replace all of the shackles, the driver side cab mount rusted out and now has fallen out of the vehicle, i also have noticed that there is a rather large hole in the frame in between the cab and the bed of the truck, my gas tank straps have rusted off and i now have it ratchet strapped it in because the mount for the strap rusted out of the frame. I believe that since the truck is still in good working order minus the frame and rust issues and since it still has moderate to low miles i believe that the ford company should make it right with their valued customers and replace the vehicle or at least repair it to where it is street worthy. Rangers are great trucks but the frame was completely manufactured wrong.

Electrical system problems, causing lights to come on/off, radio malfunctioning and other electrical components.

Ignition chimes while driving. Please provide further information.

While going up hill at 50mph vehicle dropped in speed to 35mph, almost resulting in rearend collision.tt

My problem is with an electronic component that controls the door chime, windshield wipers, and interior dome light.these three items will turn on intermitently.windshield wipers will for no apparent reason begin to operate.the interior dome light may or may not turn off when entering or leaving the vehicle, and sometimes it stays on for hours draining my battery after i have left the vehicle or while driving at night.the door chime is the worst; it refuses to stop ringing (especially on hot days).the ford dealer here has told me that it is a faulty chip in a control module located deep inside the dash board.they have a tsb on it.okay, but they want to charge me 450.00 to repair.i think that is unfair.it just doesn't seem right that i should pay for a replacement component installed at the factory that is now becoming faulty.i think ford should accept some responsibility for installing a faulty chip or module.i think if the chip were controlling other ignition or electrical parts it would be a hazard.right now the door chime is driving me crazy.

While driving, noticed smoke then flames under dash.

While truck was in the driveway with engine on truck caught on fire under the hood. Please describe details.tt

Vehicle experienced a fire under the hood while traveling at 50-55 mph on a country road. Local fire department arrived to extinguishfire. Insurance investigatorbelieved problem was due to the power steering pump.

Fuses blow frequently. *sd

Our dome and chimes stay on all the time even after you take out the fuse the dome light goes out but the chimes still goes off, this has been fix ed 5 times by the dealer, but the problem still existand now we will be charge for this problem , we have spoken to my other who has the same vehicle and they have the same problem, this can cause a fire, we know cause our dome light got real hot and stated to smoke. We took out our light bulb and fuse. Plese correct this problem, it seems ford does not want to reconize that they have a problem.

No summary for above vehicle.

The electrical problem affects three areas of operation: the windshield washer, the radio, and the dome lightand chime.the most dangerous is the windshield washer.while driving it will turn itself onand blind my vision for 15 seconds while it sprays washer fluid on the windshield and then wipes it off.undernormal circumstances it is only an annoyance but if i am changing lanes or in bright sunlight or on curves it becomes a potential disaster.it started doing it the first month i boughtit from a friend (01/98)and has lasted till the present date(06/00.the previous owner warned me of the electrical problem so it has been an on going situation.the second problem is electrical in nature also.it involves the factory radio/ tape deck.the radio works great but the tape deck wont work after being repaced once and worked on byford four times.the last issue is with the dome light and chime sound.the light remains on and the chime continues to sound for up to two minutes after the door is closed andall the seat belts have been fastened.i dont know if the three electrical problems are relatedbut i do know that they all three originate in the electrical wiring behind the dash board.my main concern is the wiper and washer turning themselves on while i am driving .it is only a matter of time before this causes an accident since it happens at least twice a week.my frustration lies in the fact thatnearly all1995 rangers have this same problem (according to consumer reports and every individual i meet who owns this same year of truck)and yet ford still has not issued a statement or a recall that i am aware of at this time.thank you for your time . Tony filley.(

The door ajar chime and dash light stays on for long periods of time(as long as 90 minutes) and the dome light will also stay on for 5 to 10 minutes after the doors are closed. The warning lights on the dash will come on for no reason and then go out. The windshield wiper will go from intermittent to full operation while in intermittent mode.

Several months after owning the vehicle, i noticed that the warning chimes and dome lighting stayed on continously after turning the key on even before actually cranking the vehicle..also the windsheild wipers come on and sometimes go off without consumer command...fords service bulletin #2526, bulletin sequence #357, date 9804, nhtsa item #sb603550 discusses this problem...this apparently is a widespread problem for many consumers purchasing this vehicle as i have researched several available databases and have viewed many customer concerns regarding this problem...this makes the operation of this vehicle totally unsafe as the chimes distract the driver to the point of unsafe operation and the dome light staying on continously causes impossible visibility while operating the vehicle. The use of windshield wipers that are not even close to dependable seems to warrant a recall of this vehicle...repair costs quoted at another dealer location were $275.00 which did not include repairs to the windshield wiper repair... The only non-shop fix is the removal of the fuse that controls these systems which also controls the speedometer and odometer of the vehicle...which disables the wipers as well....totally unsafe conditions exists as a result.

My ford ranger has some major electrical problems, the interior light just comes on sometimes, and the door buzzer just dings all of the time, sometimes the parking lights will stay on after i turn the lights and ignition off, and sometimes i will be driving down the road and my windshield wipers will just come on by themselves and then stop. I have another friend that has a ford ranger too, and hers has the same problems. Coincidence???i dont think so!!!

There is an intermitent short in the electrical system. Windshieldwipers start working by themselves, air bag light flashes on and off, and faulty readings on instrument panel.

I was driving down the road when i smelled smoke and saw flames coming out from under the hood and the power to the vehicle began to cut out making it difficult to move or steer the truck to safety i then exited the vehicle and flames were coming out of the front passenger side good and headlight. So i called the fire department and they came and sprayed the truck putting the flames out. And cutting the wires to the battery

Engine block has rusted, causing rust in radiator and failure of original thermostat.

I feel ford motor needs to extend this recall they currently have in effect 7 years or 100,ooo miles my car was over the mileage to comply with them to fix this problem they know they need to do something about this problem, head gaskets just don't blow out for no reason.

Engine block has rusted causing rust in the radiator, and failure in the original thermostat.

My problem is that my l995 ford ranger dies in traffic for no apparent reason and often will not restart at once.after a period of time (few minutes to couple of days) the engine will start.this failure to restart happens more often when trying to start the engine.if the engine is hot or cold does not seem to matter, but happens more often with a warm engine, i.e., buying gas can be a long-time affair because i have to wait up to and hour or more to start and move my vehicle.i daily have to make a three mile trip across a bridge with heavy and fast traffic.stalling out on the bridge is a great fear of mine.my ranger is currently in the service section of world ford because it died friday morning, three blocks from where i had left my office.it is still in ghe service section because they cannot figure out what is causing the problem, which happened to one of their workers as he was trying to drive my vehicle to lunch.they say that ford is not responsible and that my extended warrenty does not cover making a repair until it (the truck) is totally unable to operate.i am at a loss of what to do.i hate to trade off the truck knowing that someone else will be buying trouble, but i cannot afford the long waits for the vehicle to start, and i fear for my life should the vehicle die in heavy and fast traffic, as the three mile bridge.

Air conditioner failed, causing bad noise.

Air conditioner compressor main shaft broke off and fell into engine compartment hitting the fan. If i was travelling at highway speed while this happend, it would have stalled the engine. I asked ford why this happened & they said it happens sometimes. This seems to be a defect in the shaft of the the air conditioning unit. It could not be repaired except for replacing the whole a/c unit. This has cost me $858.21

Air conditioner failed to work properly twice ((attorney for client).

The air conditioner clutch and compressor died at what seems to be a premature age. The cost for parts and labor came to $908.19 not to mention the value of my time getting it fixed.

I have a 95 ford ranger. The "fuel filler neck and hose" has become defective to the point where gas pours out the bottom of the vehicle when i put gas in the truck. I took it to a local shop (not a ford dealership) and called several other places and was told by everyone that this part is not sold after-market, and you can only buy it from ford. I was also told that many ford ranger owners are looking for this same part. I was very surprised that ford had a monopoly on this part given that it such a key safety component. I am being forced to purchase a ford part just so my truck won't leak gas, and i don't understand why it's leaking gas in the first place. That's a basic safety feature! i understand that all vehicles need repair from time to time, but i should be able to put gas in my truck without fear of fire from the leak.

Windshield wipers/washer operate erratically. Randomly come on and it is difficult to get them to turn off.also, interior lights malfunctioned.

The door chime does not shut off or it stays on for a very long time.i took the truck in when it was under warranty and it was fixed for a short time, then the problem started again.it is especially bad on warm days.i noticed this was an issue in nhtsa item numbers: sb 603550 and sb 613399.this problem is distracting and needs to be fixed correctly.

Door chimes and dome lights stay on continuously.the only way to stop is to pull the fuse.unfortunately when the fuse is pulled, windshield wipers do no work nor does the speedometer. This is the 2nd occurrence.the dealer claimed to have fixed the problem (after 3 days in shop) in 1997.also the windshield washer & wipers come on without touching the controls.

Windshield wipers, when turned on, are erratic.they do not hold a steady cadence.also, domelight stays on after closing the door.it will stay on for up to 5 minutes.

Interior dome light stays on and door ajar chime stays on.this is a very common problem (see postings at www.fordranger.com).obviously a defective design and a safety hazard (try hearing anything going on with the bong, bong, bong going on continuously).

I have changed the driver side switch twice and the passenger side once. I feel this is an annoince and a hazard when your dome light and door buzzer come on at random or will not shut off when door is closed. Particulary at night, who can drive safely with the dome light on. I have had several incedences where i have tryed, foolishly, to pull the bulb when the light has come on while driving or would not shut off. Also try to drive down the road with your door buzzer sounding, i have talked to several ford owners with the same problem and all have said the same thing about their vehicle. The dealership was quite helpful at first conversation be when i brought up safty issues they said "sorry"nothing in our data to show a recall, we'll change it for you( at a price) but then it only happens again in a few months. They have a defective component that is still being used in newer vehicles and they know it. The wipers are tyhe same issue. Again, comming on at will. This is very distracting let alone when they shut off during a rain. They also told me the same thing, sorry, nothing we can do. You'll have to pay for that one also. It is not an issue of money, it's saftey and time. We live very hectic lives and i personally don't have the time to constantly have my vehicle tided up at a dealership for items that should work propery for a considerable life of the vehicle and not be a hazard to the driver. Sorry for venting, this is agrivating when you see an obvious defect and you get the run around. Help if you can. Thank you.

Windshieldwipersworking intermittently and dome lights would stay on. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle out of warranty, and not cover under manufacturer'srecall. The generic electronic module that controls the wiper and dome light plus warning sounds had been a subject of recalls in other type of vehicles.

When starting vehiclechime stays on, interior lights as well as windshield wipers start.when takingfuse out to stop, speedometer will not work.

Module controls door chimes, windshield wipers, interior lights...wipers turn on without user controls.wipers stop working when they are being used or needed.i understand that this is an on going problem, yet there have been no recalls from ford motor co.

I have a couple of complaints actually. The two more serious is, 1) there is a constant dinging while im driving, and the dome light stays on constantly, car on or off. The saftey issue is that, how am i to cocentrate on driving while both of these two defects are constantly occuring. 2) my windshield wipers will randomly cut on while driving. This is another big distraction, expecially while trying to concentrate. I also have a couple of other friends with a ranger "different year" that these same distracting events occur with thier truck. I hope you issue a recal on these two items befor something terrible happens. Please write back and tell me progress with this situation. Look forwarf to hearing from you soon.shannon winburn.

Intermittentlywindshield wipers will come on by themselves.dome light stays on and chime sounds for several minutes due to driver and passenger door switch failures.

Door switch/latch failed.

I have had a very bad experience with the suspension on my1995 ranger. I was driving and had a passenger with me when the rear spring brackets gave out on me, dropping my rear end down and i almost lost control of the vehicle. After stopping the truck, i saw that both front and rear leaf spring brackets had sheared and was now in two pieces. The only bracket not destroyed was the passenger front. All the brackets were rusted out and gave way. I have owned other rangers and this was the first one thathas done this to me. I had to replace the defective brackets and rear shackles. I feel that i should not have had to replace them. The metal was thin and of very low quality. I have been in the automotive field for over 40 years. There should be a recall and the defective units replaced, before someone is killed due to the failure while the vehicle is in motion at high freeway speeds. This is a dangerous condition and needs to be addressed. I feel that it falls within the same area as the sticking accelerator cable on the imports. Looking forward to hearing any followups on this problem.

The automatic locking hub assembly on the 95 model year ranger is defective in design.i have now replace this part 3 times at a total cost to me of $1000.the exact part in question is a plastic bushing in th hub that goes bad.ford will not sell this bushing alone, they require you to buy the entire hub assemebly.the four wheel drive will not function if this bushing is not in excellent condition.i am concerned for those of us in northern states that injuries and fatalities will occur because of this faulty part.

Cylinder still appears slightly unseated from mount.design appears marginal to me.45 degree rotation of cylinder detaches it from mount.the recesses to retain cylinder in position are very shallow.it is already partly rotated due to connectors' strain.i would not be surprised to find this situation in other trucks. Entire clutch system, including master cylinder, was replaced less than 4 months ago.

When i shift from 2nd-3rd-4th, no matter what gear i put it in, the motor reves really high. Almost like it has to be shifted again. We had it back to the dealer once before. They said they fixed the problem. It started acting up again 2 months later. When we took the vehicle to the dealer it wasn't doing it at the time. It seems like it only does it after you drive the vehicle awhile. If at all possible, can you please let us know if other people have the same problem. And how do we go about having them fix the vehicle and pin point the problem i'am having with it.thank you for your help.

Man-tran:parked truck, left in 1st gear, parking brake not on, got out, vehicle rolled backward, hit tree/fence, transmission slipped out of 1st gear.

Throttle controls are faulty. Windshield wipers -- beginning summer 1998 i experienced problem with my windshield wiper, dome light, and door chime coming on intermittently. In december 1998 the wipers stopped working so i brought the vehicle to maguire ford for repair.the wiper motor was replaced (obviously this intermittent on/off cycle burnt it out), as was a switch for the door. The features were trouble free (though the dome light still has problems) until 5/10/2000.on that day i started the vehicle during a rain storm, and the wipers would not work.i brought the vehicle back to maguire ford for repair.i was told the vehicle had been repaired, but when i started it the wipers still would not work.the vehicle is still in the shop and requires a part (costing ~$150).the mechanics at ford kept referring to "intermittent wiper" problems on other ford's, prompting me to check the "car talk" web site, which had a link to the nhtsa site.on this site i saw that many others have been having similar wiper/door chime/dome light problems.while on this site i noticed numerous instances where people had problems with their abs systems.on 11/28/99 while driving on i-81 just north of binghamton, ny i had a frightening experience with my brakes. Was driving south on i15 when traffic in front of me came to stop. I slowed my ranger to less then 10 mph waiting for traffic to move on. A man driving a izuzu trooper was not aware of the traffic stoppage and slammed into the rear of my ranger at approx 40 mph.the impact sent me backwards slamming my head through the back window of my "supercab" truck. I was wearing my seatbelt and had my seatback in a normal upright position. Once i got my wits about me 5 minutes later i noticed that my seat back was fully reclined as a result of the crash. My back window behind the drivers side seat was almost completely missing as a result of my head hitting it. I only received a moderate head injury (3 staples to hold it together) but this could have been much worse. Should my seat back give out like this during a rear impact???? i feel i would have been fine if the seat had held. Please send me a reply with an engineers analysis (opinion). I can e-mail pictures of this accident if it helps.thanks brian labree.

I own a 1995 ford ranger.i started having trouble when i sat down in the drivers seat about 6 months ago.when i sat down and leaned back, the seat would fall backwards.i found out from a mechanic that a bolt had broken in the framework of the seat.he showed the broken bolt to me which i still have.i have since braced the seat up with a 2"x10" so i can drive the vehicle.

In 2011, i was informed by letter that there was a recall on my vehicle. I went into the dealer in fort walton beach fl. And they installed a wire connection to the brake master cylinder area on the abs control. They said everything was ok. In spring of 2013 the abs light came on as it does every time i start the car. This time it stayed on and does not go out every time the vehicle is driven. This is a safety issue and must be resolved. This light indicates a failure in the braking system.

I was driving at work going from point a to point b and i heard the rear brakes grinding, metal to metal sound, was going about 40 mph, slow down and made it to point b, about 1 mile, in town.... Parked and checked under the truck.... And discovered the emergency brake cable was stretched tight... Crawled under truck and discovered that frame was rusted in half (broken all the way thru) on driver's side and passenger side was almost as bad.... Also a cross member was rusted away... And the driver's side shock was hanging down (bracket rusted away) truck is now parked at homecan't fix it.... Had to buy a used van from my boss so i could get to work..... I will have to junk the title in the next few days.... Truck runs fine but just can't fix a rusted out frame... Not safe for anyone to drive... By the way the end of the frame where the rear bumper attaches rusted about 18 months ago and had to put 1/2 inch steel in to reattach it.... The frame was a little rusty at that time but no holes or breaks.... I think ford should compensate all ranger owners for rusted out frames, i have read blogs and there are a lot of these ranger frames rusted out... I have pictures if needed...

When applying the brakes in the 4 wheel drive mode, the back brakes seem to grab quicker causing the brakes to lock on all 4 wheels. This causes the vehivcle to go in to a uncontrolled slide. This has happened numerous times on hills or even level ground in snowy conditions. When the vehicle is in 2 wheel drive, the brakes appear to act normal. But when in 4 wheel drive the brakes lock and pulse, there is no controlled deployment of the pads. The tires on the vehicle are the size that the manufacturer calls for, the only difference is that i use studded tires on the rear. As i stated there does not seem to be a problem in 2 wheel drive.( dot number: tire size: 205,70r-15 )

The rh. Radius arm fractured with severe pullingwith near total loss of control of vehicle on a country road.further investigation indicated a 85 % rust through of frame near coil spring and radius arm attachment.also the rh rear leaf spring is rusted 90% through, any one of these failures would cause a deadly crash.i worked as a parts manager for 23 years for a ford dealership and have never witnessed anything like this.

Engine misfires under acceleration, also stalls occasionally; also poor control of steering and cruise control light does not work.

Completely rusted front radial arm broke in half when breaking for a traffic light; resulting in the vehicle swerving completely into the oncoming lane; fortunately no one approaching. I had to creep home at 10 mph with truck jerking this way and that as the right front wheel went haywire. In the past year all four leaf spring supports separately gave way because of rusted supporting brackets. If the truck had been loaded it would likely have overturned or made the truck go out of control! rusted front and rear brakes lines two years ago blew out and nearly caused an accident. This truck never plowed snow and only once in many years was ever fully loaded. Other frame members are outrageously rusted and might be dangerous.

I have contacted multiple ford dealers to try to determine what corrective measures should be taken to correct the problem, but so far, they have no answers.they are well aware of the problem with this particular engine.a brief description of the problem is:the engine has developed a serious "ping" which can be heard mostly at highway speeds, on any slight incline, or small load on the engine.the "ping" is very noticeable, and leads me to believe that this could eventually lead to a catastrophic failure of the engine.from a safety standpoint, a blown engine on a highway such as the pa turnpike, or i-95,could have deadly results.i have not contacted ford directly, but i thought that youmay want to investigate this situation, because this looks like a big problem with no cure.ford should be responsible for correcting this.thank you.

My 1995 ford ranger was purchased brand new, ordered to my specifications, i am the original owner and the truck has 86k original miles.the body of my truck is in very good condition, as i have maintained my truck the entire life of it, through continuous cleanings to keep the salt debris off during the winter months.this truck has beenmy pride and joy as it was my very first new vehicle.i am now very disgusted as the frame on the left side, both front and rear is completely rotting away and extremely unsafe to drive.even though the body of my truck looks excellent, my truck will no longer pass inspection due to its defective frame.toyota had the same issue with its tacoma trucks and made good on them with a recall.i am looking for the same satisfaction, as i am a 3 time owner of ford vehicles.i currently own my second ford e-250 cargo van, that with only 62k original miles i had to replace the transmission.i purchased ford products as i was always told ford stands by their products, and i am hoping that is true, because now i own a $19k piece of ford junk that with out an inspection because of a rotted frame is useless.i did my part over the years taking excellent care of my ford ranger and for what?i am a very dissatisfied customer and i feel that the frame on my 1995 ford ranger is defective, just like the toyota was and i am hoping that since i am not the only one with a rotted frame on their ford ranger that ford will be making good on this defective frame.i have found numerous other complaints on the internet of customers that also had a 1995 ford ranger with twice the miles that i have and their frame was also rotted and defective.please let me know what the necessary steps are that i need to take to have my defective frame looked into further for a replacement due to a recall on ford's defective ranger frames.

1995 ford ranger, 150-odd miles. No indication the failure was coming. The gas pedals bracket is spot welded to the floor, and the welds broke between applying a little gas while backing up and switching gears to go forward - the gas pedal "disappears" from underfoot and ends up laying flat on the floor on its side, the bracket detached from the floor.

Chassis frame is rusting away. All enamel paint is gone and chunks of rusted metal is flaking off

Rusted out gas tank straps both front and back straps are rusted out.

The rear half of the truck frame is rotted to pieces.the brackets that are supposed to hold the shocks are rusted off and missing..

Shiny rear bumper, impairs visibility when driving with headlights on.

Washer failure due to wear/corrosion causes bumper to sag.concern about possible safty hazards.this "bumper sag" has been observed on many other rangers of the same design type.please contact me and i may be able to provide a better description, and/or pictures.

Electrical system malfunctioned, causing the dome light and the door light to stay on, andbrake warning light to come on.dealer replaced the sensor on the door.problem is still reoccurring.please provide further information.

The door chimes would remain on even after the door is closed.dome light stays on andwindshield wipers would come on & off on their own.dealer reprogrammed the on-board computer, no problems since. *ml

Interior dome light stays on and door ajar chime stays on.this is a very common problem (see postings at www.fordranger.com).obviously a defective design and a safety hazard (try hearing anything going on with the bong, bong, bong going on continuously).

Door chime intermittantly rings, continuously causing extreme irritation. Also, windshield wiper blades work when turned on, but when turned off they come on intermittently.

Vehicle has been in to dealers numerous times due to faulty electrical problems that cause windshield wipersnot to work.also door ajar, chimes when door is closed. Dealers have not corrected problem.

Intermittentlywindshield wipers will come on by themselves.dome light stays on and chime sounds for several minutes due to driver and passenger door switch failures.

Drivers side door failed.nlm

Dome light and door chime stay on near constantly with door closed. Chime does not always have same beat as songs on radio; distracting!

Vehicle is a 1995 ford ranger xl.as of july 2010, the drivers side of the rear bumper had started to sag but i did not think much of it as the truck still drove fine and there were no rot holes upon visual inspection.8 months later, i hit a pot-hole and the bumper let go completely on the drivers side.it was still held up by the passanger side although it was barely on there.i looked underneath more and the back portions of the frame were competely rotted away (non-existant).i thought i was the only one with this problem but after doing a google search, it seems like a very common problem with other ford ranger owners too.this is also very scary because the rot goes up to the leaf spring mounts.if the a leaf spring mount lets go, the truck will suddenly dropto one side and there is an extremely high risk of a roll over or major accident at a minimum.(i read stories about this online which scare me)i took a piece of metal and had it welded on to hold the bumper which worked but it is not that strong and will not absorb a rear end collision as the frame is gone.it also does not help the leaf spring mounts which are still very weak and will break off soon.my truck failed the state inspection because of the rot problem and i have been warned not to drive it.there is nothing you can do to correct it except replace the frame.the problem is you cant just go buy a new frame and a repair will be very costly.if this happens, you most likely have no choice but to get a new vehicle.my truck has had an easy life (no towing or excessive loads) and still has this problem.i did not see this coming and don't make enough money to get a new vehicle and cant sell this one for much since the frame is gone.its a catch-22.this deserves a recall as it can be a very dangerous problem and people can be seriously hurt or killed if it is not caught in time.i consider myself lucky.

The contact owns a 1995 ford ranger. The contact stated that the subframe was severely corroded and fractured. As a result, the rear springs and tires separated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The rear half of the truck frame is rotted to pieces.the brackets that are supposed to hold the shocks are rusted off and missing..

All leaf spring brackets and frame have rusted out completely it is my understanding that this is a common defect and have seen this many times.

I have had to replace 3 of the 4 shackles in my ranger due to them rusting off and breaking. The fourth shackle is well on its way to being rusted off. The frame of the truck seems to be getting weak in the spots around the shackles as well.

1995 ford ranger. My nephew was driving on the highway when the right rear shackle let loose and he lost stability. I replaced both right side front and rear shackles. I pulled the bed off to replace the sending unit and found both left side shackles rotted, left side frame rotted in half, cross member, gas tank splash pan and straps, along with all cab mounts rotted completely. I parked the truck and have not drove it science 2012. The body is beautiful, and all the mechanics have been kept up. I don't want to give up on this truck.

I-beam fell apart, causing loss of control. *sd

Steering wheel off center, due to misalignment.

Ball joints don't have lube fittings causing them to wear or seize, this is causing steering to get loose, the cost to repair this is over $500.

Faulty shock absorbers, causing front end noise. Also, experiences electrical problems.

Had 4 new oem firestone tires put on when i bought the truck in may 97. In jan 98, ~3000 miles later, i drove 12 hrs from fla to chapel hill, nc with 2 @15 minute stops to gas up. Took i-95 and ran 70-80mph the whole time. When i left the hwy for the last time, truck braking was very bad. All over the road. I did not lose control only becausd the off ramp was very long near my house and i took a l o n g time to stop. Scary. Tire was destroyed. Looked like someone took a grinder to about 1/6th of the tire, along the outside edge. The steel belt had bits of metal sticking out of it, the tread near the hand sized hole had peeled off the inner tire (but was still attached on the inside 2" or so) . What a mess.did i run over a land mine?i put it down as a fluke, but thought i shoudl report it now.( dot number: tire size: p235/r1570 )

My complaint is the vehicle frame, specifically the rear most part where the rear bumper mounts to the frame. The frame is full of rust holes in that area and i can only surmise in a light rear end collision that this area will crumble. This is absolutly a failureby ford to issue a recall with a proper repair! now at the owners expense, not inexoensive by any means a full frame or rear frame section replacement! this is on many rangers, in fact i replaced a frame on a families1997, total baloney! who ade the frame toyota?!!

Chassis frame is rusting away. All enamel paint is gone and chunks of rusted metal is flaking off

The frame is rusted through and cracked on the left rear end. The bars to support the drive shaft is rusted off and the mounts for the rear springs have been repaired once and are almost rusted off again. There is heavy rust on the right side frame but not rusted through. The truck body has only 3 surface rust marks and 2 small dings. The truck has original paint (except for left fender and hood). Truck was garage kept and interior is perfect.

Ck engine light stays on even when there is nothing wrong, the windshield wipers come on without warning which often scares the driver, the door chime stays on even when the doors are shut and is enough to cause a big headache and road rage, and the dome light stays on and has to be disconnected so that it does not run the battery down.now, these complaints appear to be separate in their own problem, but i have read that many people are experiencing these same problem all at the same time.we have recently paid the 700.00 to fix the problem on because the chime got to where it would never turn off at all.we are military and had to relyon our parents to help pay for the repairs.the problems were on going for a while, but we were able to "live" with it rather than pay the high cost repair.now i have found that these problems are a quality issue that ford should be responsible for.our truck is upkept very well and other than these problems it has been a good truck.ford has made a faulty product and it should not be the consumers responsibility to pay for a repair that isnt cause by normal wear and tear or owner neglect.i have went in circles with the 1800-392-ford rep and the dealer and because we have over 65000 miles they wont even attempt to look into the matter.i have gather numerous complaint from the internet and am in the process of having a ford rep look into my complaint, but something needs to be done.people need to know that they are not the only ones suffering the ill effects of a faulty product.

Wipers turn on intermittently and sometimes turn off when needed; almost caused crash.

Windshield wipers inadvertently come on and spray fluid on windshield, distracting driver.

Windshield wipers are working intermittently and sometimes the wipers won't work at all.turn off without turning off engine. Also dome light remained on, seat belt warning light not turning offfor some time unless vehicle is turned off.

Windshield wipers and washer come on intermittently without turning them on and won't turn off. Sometimes wipers don't come on when switch is turned on.

Dome light/door buzzer failed/ windshield wipers worksintermittently/ cruise control works intermittently.

Windshield wipers/washer operate erratically. Randomly come on and it is difficult to get them to turn off.also, interior lights malfunctioned.

Vehicle has been in to dealers numerous times due to faulty electrical problems that cause windshield wipersnot to work.also door ajar, chimes when door is closed. Dealers have not corrected problem.

Dome light/door buzzer failed/ windshield wipers worksintermittently/ cruise control works intermittently.

Door ajar chime continuously rings and dome light remains on creating distraction during driving, and windshield wipers randomly operate and sometimes do not work on high speed.

The windshield wipers come on without the switch being activated.sometimes the washer fluid will spray when they come on - - this is scary when passing another vehicle.i did take the vehicle back to the dealer while it was under warranty and they replaced a switch somewhere, but the problem continues.

Windshield wiper sensor mlfunctioned. Windshield wipers will just come on anytime while driving down the street. Also, sometimes it makes the door chimes ring, and regulates the rear interior light.dealer will replaceparts for free, but consumer has to pay to have the right side done first.

Windshield wipers will cut on when in off position, intervals do not work correct, winshield washer will work by itself. Interior lights will not cut off after door is shut for approximately 1 hour. This happens at all times of the day and night. Usually only happens when passenger door is opened and shut.

Check engine light stays on, door chime stays on constantly, light dome stays on even at night when you are driving down the road, heater doesn't work, and most important windshield wipers work intermitiently and spray fluid distracting driver. I've almost had accidents with the wipers not working right, sometimes the wipers don't work at all when raining. Please do something before someone is killed. Thank-you, shannon case

Windshield wipers intermittenly fail or will turn on without switch operation.turn signals have occasionally stopped working at the same time.there has also been the smell of overheating wires.

Windshield washer/windshield motor or electrical system operates sporadically, sometimes not at all.safety hazard in winter.

Intermitant problem with my wipers, resulting in totalled visibility lost.there is a tsb out on the 1995 model, but no recall.

Check engine light stayswindshield wipers come on at random, stay on when turned off, operate at different speed than wanted, door chime stays on constantly, interior light on ceiling stays on at random;regarding brakes: during wet weather the first 2 or 3 times brake is applied severe "grabbing" occurs that could lead to an accident;on when turned off.

Electrical wipers and oil gage

Windshield wiper will operate without turning them on and when turned on they will not operate

At this high rate of speed, during a rain storm, the wipers shutdown and about caused me to wreck the truck.

While drivingwindshield washers and wiperscome onintermittently, consumer feels that they could limit visibility at critical times. *ml

The windshield wipers start up on their own and the door "ajar" alarm will ring continuously for long periods of time.this problem has occurred every since the vehicle was purchased.it may not be considered a safety hazard, but it sure is annoying.

Windshield wipers when turned on to intermittent setting stop in the middle of the windshield and will not continue.this causes a vision problem when driving when the wiper blade is in the path of the drivers vision.must turn wipers on to either low or high speed (non-intermittent setting) to get them out of the way. Brakes:rotors cracked and caused heavy vibration and trouble braking.

Windshield washers come on without being activated. Danger isat night when windshield washerscome on and flood windshield, making visibility impossible.

A car cut closely in front of me, prompting me to apply my brakes with force, in order to prevent a collision.the brake on the front right-hand side lock, causing the truck to jerk to the right.i surprisingly was able to maintain control of the truck, but after another 30 miles of driving i began noticing a grinding sound in the area of the front right brake.i took the truck to midas and was told the the caliper on the front right brake broke and that something (the brake?) had seized.i paid for repairs and dismissed this incident until reading on the "car talk - nhtsa" link that many other have experienced a similar events with their brakes.the problem, it seems, is worthy of a recall. Thanks for your help.

Windshield wipers, when turned on, are erratic.they do not hold a steady cadence.also, domelight stays on after closing the door.it will stay on for up to 5 minutes.

The door chimes would remain on even after the door is closed.dome light stays on andwindshield wipers would come on & off on their own.dealer reprogrammed the on-board computer, no problems since. *ml

When starting vehiclechime stays on, interior lights as well as windshield wipers start.when takingfuse out to stop, speedometer will not work.

The windshield wipers would fail to stop after being turned off. Sometimes would come on without being turned on. Taking vehicle to dealer.

Windshield wipers become inoperable, obstructing the view of the driver. Dealer has been notified.

Windshield wiper fail intermittently or will turn on without switch operation.turn signal will sometimes stop working at same time.there has also been the smell of overheating wires, but no visible smoke.

Intermittently while driving windshield wiper and washer comes on unexpectedly which may cause visual difficulty and may resultin an accident.

I brought vehicle in while under warranty to repair defective windshieldwiper switch.windshield wipers come on at random without activation. Ford issued technical service bulletin ordering dealer not to repair pending investigation. Results of investigation never released.

Wiper/washer intermittently work/do not work regardless of switch position, (demonic possesion?).

Ongoing problem withwindshield wipers operating whileswitch is inoff mode or washer operating for unknown reason and stopped running during operation. Dealer was notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not cover under a manufacturer'srecall.windshield wipers will not respond correctly to switch input, they will stop while in on mode or will not respond to wash water command.

Windshield wipers intermittently fail to work or will turn on without switch operation.on occasion the turn signals have stopped working at the same time.there has also been the smell of overheating wires.

While driving the windsheild wipers will turn on and start sprying fluid all over without touching the button for it.
