Consumerwas traveling about 45mph on the highway and another vehicle ran consumer's vehicle off the road.itran into a tree head-on.upon impact, driver's side airbag didn't deploy.

Vehicle hydroplaned at 55 mph ,went down a hill and off a 3 foot enbankment, landing against a cliff of rocks. Upon impact, dual airbags did not deploy, even with frontal and rearend damage . Consumer was told by manufacturer that with that model of truck dual airbags should have deployed in a frontal and rearend impact. This resulted in injuries, such as torn ligaments in neck and bruises on chest/abdomen, and a bruised bladder.

Consumer was driving on the highwaywhen another driver hit the consumeron passenger's side and on thefront driver's side and busted the windshieldglass. Consumer's vehicle was totaled. Also the driver airbag didn't deploy.

Complaint:high risk of accident due to engine shut down.subject: ignition module safety complaint.6 out of 7 badcomments: problem: 1994 ford ranger pickup dies frequently and sporadically after ignition module replacement by auto mechanic. First 2 oem modules from advance auto test bad at parts dealer. Third module is ford motor craft and is assumed good. Several new parts installed including crank sensor, fuel filter, fuel relay, timing belt, eec (computer), water pump, eec relay. Sporadic dying continues. Ford module tested at auto zone and fails, but new auto zone duralast module is tested for comparison and passes. Mechanic returns module and orders new one from advance auto. It fails test in store. Mechanic orders another that passes at advance but fails at auto zone on duralast test. I install module and it fails a quarter mile from house. Mechanic gets another motor craft module from ford that passes at advance and fails at auto zone. I don't install it. That makes 4 oem modules that failed and 2 motor craft. Finally, i install auto zone module that passed test at auto zone. No failure for 4 days and counting. Local ford dealer tried twice to find the problem after the first motor craft module was installed and did not locate the problem. They did not have an out of vehicle analyzer. My conclusion: there is a strong possibility that other people will encounter the same problem. My vehicle died on the order of several dozen times over a six month period (almost daily). Luckily i live in a rural area and am quick at hitting the emergency blinker. After awhile,i bought a used car and only drove the truck to test it. Safety hazard: unexpected dying on busy highway or at intersection could result in serious injury or death. Please let me know that your doing something. Ford won't.

While driving 20 mph driver noticed that the vehicle was on fire. Driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. The fire department extinguished the fire. Vehicle was towed to a garage for inspection. The cause had not been determined at this time.the consumers son turned on the defroster and smoke filled the inside of the vehicle.the vehicle was engulfed in flames.*tc

When driving in wet weather and water splashes on engine, there is a loss of electrical system functions including power steering, and other functions

1994 ford ranger started up on it's own when getting a jump. Clutch shift out of park into reversewent across the street hit a fence post, scraped car bumpers and a telephone pole**sbthe consumer stated he tried to start the vehicle and thought the battery was dead, hooked the jumper cables to the vehicle went inside and came back out to restart the vehicle. While the vehiclewas, off it started and jumped into gear struck neighbor's vehicle and then the telephone pole. The consumer provided illinois motorist report.

When going through puddles of water, experieced electrical failures.

Our 1994 ford ranger started on fire while sitting in are driveway, for and hour. It burnt all electrical harness.

Battery failed.

There currently is a recall for ford rangers up through 1993's.mine is a 1994 and has the same exact problem.the recall states the electrical ignition system was mounted incorrectly near the engine and causes the engine to stall.my ranger has this problem and i want ford to include the 1994 ranger in this recall.

The truck would stall unexpectedly during cold weather running.the problem began approximately two years after my purchase.the problem was diagnosed as an ignition module which was replaced, but i was not convinced that was the entire problem.three months later it occurred agin on a road trip. Prior to the tripfrom salt lake city to canada, i wrote a letter to the v.p of customer communications and satisfaction explaining the danger of the same component failure if one were traveling on a remote highway in a cold environment.i explained that one could die of hypothermia and suggested they find the real cause of the problem.they refused.my foresight was exactly correct.the vehicle stalled in the middle of a blizzard in montana and if i and my traveling companion were not in good physical shape we both would have died.after waiting in the vehicle for at least 30 minutes, with not a single vehicle passing us, the temperature in the cab dropped to about 15 degrees.it was near 0 degrees outside.something had to be done.i ran for two miles across a field until i luckily reached a house where they called a tow truck.we were also lucky we were going on a ski trip, so we had plenty of warm gear, but we were still nearly frostbitten by the time the tow truck arrived.i am sure an elderly person would have perished in the cold.another ignition module was installed in montana. Approximately two years later, the problem occurred again in july of 1998. This time they told me the wiring harness was defective and they couldn't trace the problem.so they made me pay $806 for the repair, all the while claiming this was not defective from the factory.i disagreed. After the third problem, i wrote a letter to customer service and also sent copies to the president and also v.p. Of customer relations.all i received was a call from a representative of customer service who had no idea why she was calling me; she was only instructed to give me a call!

While driving about 30 mphwheel will lockup. Then, engine will stall without a prior warning. This hashad happened a couple of times, and always had happened onlow speed.

2 yrs ago truck began not re-starting after engine turned off for approx. 20 minutes. Would eventually re-start, 30 minutes to 1 hr later. In april 2002 truck started dyingon the freeway and in rush hour traffic 10-60 mph. Now it dies whether hot or cold, moving or at stoplight.on freeway this problem is very serious as one must try and make their way to the shoulder before vehicle quits rolling. Other cars swerve and blare horns. Restarts in various intervals 20 minutes to 2 hrs. Hammond ford found no problem (at $100 an hour)swanson ford, los gatos, cafound no problem and said there were no service or recall notes for this problem. (also $100 an hour)have replaced ignition module and fuel pump relay. Problem continues. Something which helps restart sooner pull out and cool down the fuel pump relay, then plug back in.now even this action does not work 100% of the time. This vehicle is now parked because i am afraid to drive it.dt

Engine simply quit and it will restart later.i've replaced timing belt, ignition system, fuel filter, fuel pump, distributor strobe and it continues to stall in traffic, when hot or cold

When it rains, the distributor system under truck hood gets wets and truck will not start until it dries out.one can only guess that there is a design problem with the seal that does not keep rain out.this has occurred following moderate overnight rain.

I have a 1994 ford ranger.a judge in california has orderd a recall of a lot of ford vehicles for stalling.the problem is with the thick film ignition (tfi) which regulates current going to the spark plugs.since the tfi is mounted on the distributor, it heats up and fails.this is a very dangerous because this causes stalls at any speed -- even highway speeds!the recall will be for up to '93 rangers, but i have the exact problems stated in many articles:-http://www.coolcats.net/tfiwarning.html, -http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/dailynews/ford_recall001011. I have taken my ranger to the dealer service and they replaced the electronic ignition module and a fuel pump relay.i told them about the tfi deal and they insist that's not the problem. - what do i do?i fear for my life.

Processor failed several times.

I have a 1994 ford ranger.the truck after being parked for long and or short periods will not start, only crank.i have replaced the fuel relay, fuel pump, crank sensor.this is an intermittent problem.my car has been checked by three different techs and could not find any codes to fix the problem.their opinion was either the ignition module or computer.*nlm

Jm auto sales at 12248 n. 600 e. Demotte, in 46310, sold me an unsafe vehicle, he assured me that he services all his vehicles before he sells them because he wants his customers happy, when i took the truck to my mechanic he told me that it needs a new transmission, center links, wheel alignment, and exhaust flange manifold, its unfair for this business to sell a vehicle that is unsafe for the road, this should fall under the unsafe and deceptive acts and practices act. If he services the vehicle he would know what's wrong with them and not put them for sale.

Temperature/ thermostat keep breaking. Has been repalced 2 times.

Temperature gauge fluctuates with normal driving conditions.

No event led to premature failure unless you consider the emissions test ,the failure is of the filler neck assembly on the gas tank, a crack occurs, then leaking ,dripping, and constant fumes, this has occurred twice on my truck and many trucks of the same model.corrected the problem with a replacement assembly, the 2nd time,i attempted to seal the assembly, which held for awhile but has also failed..yes the old part is available ,as for the radiator fan, its plastic and breaks from heat every year, i have replaced it more times than i can remember, yes the old part is available.

This failure has occurred several times-caused by overheating of the module, which is located too close to the exhaust manifold, on the distributor assembly.several of these failures have occurred at highway speeds and in heavy traffic.. The engine simply shuts off, leaving me with no steering or brake control until the engine can be restarted (after it cools down) i have been quoted costs as high as $400to replace the module.. I consider this to be a design defect and the responsibility of the manufacturer to repair.

The contact owns a 1994 ford ranger. While the vehicle was parked for 24 hours, the vehicle caught fire and caused damage to another vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire; however, no injuries were reported. The fire started under the hood on the driver side of the engine where the master cylinder was located. The vehicle was completely destroyed. A fire report is available. The insurance company was in the process of inspecting the vehicle, along with other damages. The failure and current mileages were 174,000.

June 3, l999 after taking this truck into the dealer.at this time we were told that it would cost $1100 to repair the oil pan gasket, the rear main, and there were additional ones. The engine was leaking from more than one place. Also at this time were informed that ford had redesigned all of the engine seals/gaskets.the service advisor also metioned that there had been numerous problems with the orignal seals/gaskets.i have owned many cars that have gotten to well over 150,000 miles (our honda had 230,000 miles ) will no such leaks!!!! if it had been one seal or gasketmaybe i might be ok with it ,but all , and at the tune of$1100 and ford so far not taking any responsibility is beyond me. I purchased american, but unless this is resolved to my satisfaction , next car will be honda.are there any other such cases and or can you help in any way thank you. Ak

The owners manual state that you may transfer to 4x4 up to 55 miles an hour before damage occurs, i was traveling at 30 miles per hour and the front drvier hub made a cluncking sound.i asked every ford dealer about my situation and they said that that it's ridiculous to engage 4 wheel drive while moving at any speed period! and that the transfer should be made at stand still.so now i'm not really sure which way to do it.all that i'm sure of, is that $300.00 expense for a new hub.

Brake lights: brake lights and cruise control does not work.cause unknown: has not taken vehicle in for repair because last time was told it was just a blown bulb.

This is one of 12 ford rangers that have had this problem... I will only list one on the complaint until i hear back from somebody.this is a major and serious problem and before somebody is killed should be addressed as soon as possible.. I have tried to deal with ford directly, but they have ignored my concerns.

This problem is on every ford ranger i've seen over five years old. No safety defect mentioned.

I have noticed in the past year or so that the headlight brightness is affected by the yellowing of the plastic headlamp covers.replacing the bulb will not improve brightness.i believe the cause of this is lack of ultraviolet stabilizers in the plastic at the time of manufacturing.the way to fix this is to replace them with new headlamp covers.i do not believe that i should pay for these since it a defect in my opinion.the new model headlamp covers appears to be manufactured from a polycarbonate material which is of a higher quality.

Failure of fuel tank filler neck tube resulting in major loss of fuel.

I left my truck for inspection on 12/9/13.it would not inspect because of a small leak in one of the flexible fuel line cables that lead from the main fuel line to the engine.this part was supposedly on recall at some past date.the nhtsa recall is #94v111001.i never received any correspondence on this recall.unfortunately, ford informs me that the part is discontinued, and my mechanic is unable to find a replacement part anywhere.i am currently trying to find a machine shop that can make the part.my question is "do i have any options that i could pursue against ford".

Third complaint regarding fuel filler hose assembly on 1994 ford ranger.failure of hose assembly has been at the same place on all three genuine ford parts.after the beating they are giving toyota with 100 complaints, it seems that someone would act on our behalf.i cannot afford to repair again so will seek alternatives such as fabricating my own, bet it wont leak then.

The contact owns a 1994 ford ranger. The contact stated that fuel fumes entered the vehicle. After inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that fuel was leaking from the hard fuel line to the radiator fan, which was blowing the fuel back under the engine. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 85,000. Updated 7/28/15

Fuel tank filler hose leaks and causes excessive waste.

Fuel spilling from top of gas tank and fuel inlet.cracks in fuel filler neck/hose.

1994 ranger pick-up failed smog test due to a break in the gas tank filler assembly. Smog specialist said all rangers mfgd between 1989 and 1997 were failing smog pressure tank.fact verified by my mechanic. Cost of repair $600. Ford should recall these vehicles to effect replacement of the defective part.

1994 ford ranger, has a cracked fuel filler hose that causes fuel to spill out when filling the tank, during warm weather you can get to 3/4 of a tank before fuel spillage starts, in winter just a little over 1/2 tank.when i approached the dealer about getting parts to repair i was told they are on backorder.his comment to me was there are 2 types of rangers out there, those that leak and those that have been fixed.in other words this is a known issue ford has with the rangers that they are choosing to ignore.in checking other sources it seems to be rangers from at least 1993 - 2009 have this issue.

Dt: 1994 ford ranger-the truck has been having parking brake problems.when parkingand puttingthe parkingbrake on the truck will roll back, the brake does not catch.the truck will do this every time,no matter if it is on an incline or on flat surface. This has been happeningsince the consumer bought the truck, took vehicle backto dealer several times , and they had never been able to fix it. The consumer owned the truck since it was new.never had any accidents . Contacted the dealer, and they said there were no recalls onvehicle. The vehicle also has a gas leak. Updated 08/14/06.

1994 ranger xlt.was filling fuel tank when fuel began leaking from under side of truck.stopped filling process immediately and when i inspected the leak, i found that the fuel was coming form the clamp area of the filler hose.checked prices of replacements and opted to do self repair using metal duct tape.repair has held for 3-4 years.i've never experienced this on another vehicle.

The contact owns a 1994 ford ranger.while placing fuel into the vehicle at the pump, gas leaked from the filler tube onto the ground.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and it was discovered that the filler tube failed and needed to be replaced.the filler tube was replaced in july of 2001.in approximately may of 2007, the filler tube failed again.the current mileage was 110,000 and failure mileage was 65,000. Updated 09/17/08.*ljupdated 09/24/08.

1994 ford ranger extended cab pickup 4.0 l v6 engine current mileage 65,000. Mileage at failure 63,000. The fuel filler hose from thefuel filler neck to the fuel tank developed cracks that allowed fuel to spill on the ground when the vehicle was refilled. Odor of fuel is always present when vehicle is stopped. Took the truck to local service shop for replacement of filler hose. Hose is not available from dealer and cost of part was excessive if it were available. Repair shop made temporary repair by applying sealant to fuel filler hose until part becomes available.

Fuel filler neck has split at the tank connection bend. Fuel leaks profusely out of this split when tank is filled. When the tank reaches full capacity, the fuel filler outer hose fills up partially. The fuel in the outer hose then leaks out onto the tank and ground. I am repeating this claim for 2 separate vehicles, a '93 and a '94.

The contact's sister owns a 1994 ford ranger.the contact stated that whenever fuel is placed into the vehicle, the fuel leaks out on two sides.the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they stated that the fuel overflow was cracked and needed to be replaced.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 160,000 and failure mileage was 120,000.

The contact owns a 1994 ford ranger.while placing gasoline into the vehicle, the fuel would leak from underneath the vehicle.the contact smelled a strong odor of gasoline inside the passenger compartment.the failure mileage was 10,000 and current mileage was 130,000.

Fuel hose leak, causing fire.

The contact owns a 1994 ford ranger.the hose that extends from the fuel cap to the fuel tank cracks near the fuel tank while filling up the vehicle with gas.the contact stated that fuel spills from the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that it was a manufacturer defect due to the material of the hose.the failure mileage was 48,000 and current mileage was 49,000. Defective fuel pump, causing vehicle to stall.

When fueling gasoline leaks under the vehicle due to cracks found in the hose.

When i fill the vehicle with gas, an estimated 8-16 ounces of gasoline leaks out of top of fuel tank.this is a result of a cracked rubber "fuel filler hose" which interconnects fuel filler cap with gas tank.this is a major safety (fire hazard) and environmental concern.

Gasoline leaked onto the ground once the vehicle was full to capacity because the outer gasoline hose failed.the hosehad completely deteriorated.the manufacturer stated they would report it to the engineering unit.the fuel filler is a hose inside a hose.the inner hose goes directly to the gas tank while the outer hose clamps to the top of the tank and contains and overflow.the consumer feels that the outer hose is not fuel resistant therefore over time it deteriorates.

Gas line leak.

Fuel filler hose on both of my 1994 ford rangers have cracked and fuel leaks when filling tank. So far no fires, but it is only a matter of time.

No event for me - yet - problem is fuel filler hose cracks near the gas tank causing gas and vapor to escape creating potential for fire.ford seems to describe this as "isolated & single incidents" yet web search shows it is a common problem.replacements parts are hard to get - alternatives - none found.

The fuel tank vent hose allowed air to vent from the fuel tank during refueling. Cracksdeveloped in the vent hose.

When traveling the vehicle caught fire under the vehicle around the fuel tank.the fire department stated there was a leak onto the exhaust system.

The fuel filler hose has cracked on my 1994 ford ranger. The hose is ver hard and brittle and has cracked where it makes a bend into the tank. When i fill the tank a large quantity of gas spils on the ground before the pump kicks out. I was simply goung to replace the hose but ford will not sell me just the hose they want to sell me the entire filler assembly for about $ 300. This is outrages to have to pay this much for a hose that failed due to a poor design.

Gas filler neck of my 94 ford ranger.

I have two '94 ford rangers, both of which have leaking fuel filler hoses. So far no fires or injuries, but it is only a matter of time.

The fuel filler neck cracked because of the plastic material used by the factory.this caused aboutfuel to leak out onto the ground when fueling.this was a common failure with this part.the consumer was aware of other vehicle's that have experienced the same problem. *sc

Dt*: the contact stated the fuel filler tube cracked which caused strong odor of gas fumes in the cab and surrounding the vehicle.the problem caused poor mileage and fuel spillage when refueled due to loss of vacuum in the filler tube.the contact replaced the filler tube. The service dealer and manufacturer were not notified.

The contact owns a 1994 ford ranger.the contact smelled gasoline for approximately one month.a mechanic inspected the vehicle and discovered that the fuel filler tube disintegrated.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 112,000 and failure mileage was 110,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while attempting to fill the fuel tank, after half of the tank was full, any additional fuel leaked out of the filler pipe neck without warning.the dealer was alerted.

Fuel filler neck in my 1994 ford ranger leaks.

Second failure ofthe full tank inlet hose on my 94 ranger.both hoses failed at the same point and have caused large amount of fuel to leak from tank.ford is aware of this problem but refuses to acknowledge a competent solution. As with all complaints to ford, i assume this one will be ignored as well.(second complaint, same subject).

I am being charged $1100.00, by south bay ford, for 2 repairs (both saftey related) that i believe ford should be liable for. 1) when i fill the gas tank, on my vehicle, to the top i get a large quantity of gas leaking on the ground. It appears the coupling between the filler neck and the tank is the problem. 2) the driver side seat belt latch would either not latch or would not release easily. The last time i actually had to cut the belt in order to exit the vehicle. After a small amount of research, on this site, i found other complaints for the same 2 problems on my model of vehicle.

The left front seat belt failed to work properly.the seat belts would not latch or release ontheir own.driver was filling up at the gas station and without warning gasoline poured out onto the ground. Driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the filler neck and the seat belts needed to be replaced.

When the consumer is filling up the vehicle with gasoline .the hose has a hole inside causing the gasoline to spill out on the ground.nlm

(1) normal use(2) fuel filler hose cracking causing eminent fire danger during fill ups.(3) replace rubber filler hose.

Gas tank filler neck or lines leaking. Fuel system non-compliance for emissions and thusno license.. Gas fumes always present, very poor mileage.

First occurrence of fuel spilling under vehicle while filling with gasoline.fuel inlet hose has split at retaining ridge on connector on fuel tank.

The filler hose on my 1994 ford ranger leaks gas all over the ground, which is very dangerous.it's rediculous that you must pay anywhere from $300 to $400 for this hose, and you can only get it from ordering from the dealer.i've read it's a very common and dangerous problem.

I own a 1994 ford ranger with the 4.0l v6 engine. For the last few months i have not been able to fill my gas tank safely. If i fill the tank completely gasoline spills from the place where the tank meets the inlet tube. The inlet tube, which should be engineered to handle gasoline,is cracked due to insufficient construction. This defect is a danger to ranger owners due to the leaking of flammable gasoline. The price for a replacement tube from the dealer is astronomical. The dealership told me that they get a lot of rangers in with that exact problem.i spoke to ford on the phone, and they basically told me, too bad. This defect seems to be evident in years 93-94. I have spoken to many other ranger owners and they have expressed that the same defect exists in their trucks. It is only a matter of time before injury or death is experienced.

Try to fuel at the gas pump. While fueling gas leaks out the rubber hosethat goes to the gas tank approximately 4 to 5 inches down.there is a crack in the hose does this have to anything to do with the nhtdsa recall campaign number 94v-111 my ford ranger was built september 1994

When i start my truck and only drive for a few miles or minutes and then shut the vehicle off, it won't restart for up to an hour. Eventually i hear what sounds like a valve opening and the hum of the fuel pump, and then the truck will start again. This problem has also caused my truck to not be able to pass the mandatory calif smog inspections, due to the mechanics can't figure out how to fix the situation. I feel the ford co. Should include the 94 ranger's in the same recall as the 93's that are having the same problem.

I bought my 1994 ranger used. I noticed the gas gauge did not work. Repairs require the removal of the gas tank, and/or truck bed. In researching this problem i discovered that is a pervasive issue with these vehicles and that the problem is created by pin holes developing in the float, causing it to fill with fuel and sink, thereby giving a false empty signal. This requires one to calculate a rough estimate of remaining fuel based on fuel efficiency, which is not a constant factor. The danger is that one might run out of fuel without adequate warning, causing an unexpected loss of power to the brake and steering systems.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the filler hoes crack causing fluid to leak out and this will be a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notifiedts

Since approximately 2000 i have been unable to fill the truck with gas.i can not fill the tank, if i do the fuel will just spill on the ground.hose from fuel fill to tank must be cracked.

The contact owns a 1994 ford ranger. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The contact observed from the front driver mirror side a trail. In addition, there was fuel leaking from the vehicle. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle, where it was determined that there was a crack in the fuel line. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 94v111001 (fuel system/gasoline). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,000.

According to the mechanic a defective plug in transmission caused fluid to leak out, thus failure of transmission occurred.i was stranded on the interstate at 3:30am, fortunately no accident occurred as the trucks transmission locked up going 65mph.ford declines any problem with the transmission plug.however, the mechanic mentioned the same problem occurring on other rangers he has fixed.i found (online) other complaints about ranger transmissions.due to the faulty plugs, a gradual leak occurs, unoticable to the average person.this could become a hazardous situation for those traveling on the interstate or highways, especially if the vehicles engine dies, because the steering locks up when the engine quits.i would simply like for all ranger owners to be aware of this situation.i realize that ford will do little or nothing about this situation, but some good old fashion customer satisfaction would be nice.

While parked, the vehicle came out of gear and rolled down a hill. As a result, thevehicle was damaged.please provide additional information.

The plugs in the transmission case (i'm not sure of the exact anatomy) shrunk resulting in the lost of transmission fluid.in turn, the transmission was damaged from driving without fluid.i was unaware of the problem at the time and did not realize something was wrong until too late.the truck was still driveable, but only for a matter of time.it is being repaired now.i've spoken with several mechanics locally who have all told me that this seems to be a common problem with the ford transmission for several years.i've followed all of ford's customer service channels and have received no help.i've also met with an attorney.thank you for any help you can give.

Manual transmission failure, when engaging manual transmission with the clutch depressed, vehicle will not move.tt

Transmission totally failed due ti improper seals, causing transmission fluid to leak.

Transmission went into neutral on inerstate blowing most of the gears apart.

The leak in the transmission was the result of the failure of the plastic plugs located on top of the transmission.this was reported to me by the dealers service personnel when vehicle was taken for repair.i was informed that thic was a common problem with the mazda transmission used in the ranger truck.ther have been at least two other reports to nhtsa on this problem.from information i have received, if the fluid in the transmission becomes low, it will result in the transmission being damaged.it appears that this problem is much more common that reported and seems a result of the use of plastic plugs in the top of the transmission.i was informed of this potential problem when i took my truck to be serviced.i was told that the leaking was a common problem. The service personnel at the dealership also said that the plug failure was not uncommon.it appears that this may be a problen that is masked by other transmission problems.

Transmission locked up, failed.

The leak in the transmission was the result of failure of the plastic plugs located on top of the transmission.the aastro transmission and automoblie repairs had reported to me of the problem.they also had encountered other vehicles like mine and with the same situations.( dot number: tire size: p225/70r14 )

The shift rail plug that is located on the top cover of the transmission has a tendency to lose its sealing capabilities, causing the transmission to lose its fluid at a slow rate.

While adjusting the front drivers seat, the weld between the seat and seat track broke.this caused the seat to be unstable.i went to the ford dealer to have them fix the defect.they would only fix the defect if i paid for a new seat.i explained to them that this is a safety issue caused by their defective seat.the weld shouldn't break under the pressure of adjusting the seat backwards.also, if i ever got into an accident, the seat would not properly restrain me and could cause injury or death to the driver.i am appealing to nhtsa to review this seat defect.i have taken a photo of the defective weld.i'll try to attach it here.if you don't get the photo, then please feel free to email me for the photo and i'll send it to you.thank you for your time and consideration in this matter, greg hammel.

The power steering pump metal hoses are extremely rusted.metal is flaking off the hose.dealer suggested that the problem was due to heat.all metal hoses on the drivers side of the engine are experiencing extreme rust.spoke to an owner of an explorer, similar vintage, and they hadto replace similar hoses and brake lines.this in my opinion can be a safety issue especially if the hose becomes perforated and steering is lost.i never had a vehicle with metal hoses so badly corroded.

I've called ford garages & the mechanics says that they have been replacing alot of these lately with an adapter to put on manual lock-in/lock outs.

I kept hearing a squeak in the rear end. When i looked under the truck i found that the frame is rusting out real bad. Pieces are flaking off. Had to replace all four hangers on leaf springs and shackles due to them being rusted through and broke. Dealer said this is normal and i will also have problems with the brackets holding the front springs. My exhaust is the original and the truck has 147,000 miles on it. I would expect the exhaust to rust out before the frame but i guess i am wrong. I am starting to worry about the safety of me and my kids. I still have the pieces that were replaced. Truck was also originally equipped with an undercoating on the frame. I guess this did not help.

Rear leaf spring mounting brackets rusted and detached from frame, frame is very rusty.

Unsafe 1994 ford ranger cab to frame bushings and suport brackets rusted not there..80000 miles sold to me.reported to ford corppration .

Purchased a very nice 1994 ford ranger xlt with approx. 63,709 original miles the frame perches and leaf spring purchases are like swiss cheese the scale on the frame is terrible the mechanic could not safely put this truck on a lift looks like truck underneath was dipped in rust any information or reply would be appreciated.

Noticed a clunking noise if the right front of the vehicle during turning, stopping and going over small bumps.figured it would be something simple and took it to my mechanic. He said it was a rusted frame mount and to take it to a body shop. So i did and the second opinion was that the frame was rusted completely in two just if front of the right shock mount. I climbed under the vehicle and it truly is rusted completely into two pieces. I don't know what is keep the front right wheel where it belongs. Unsafe to drive. Parked for now.where do i turn now? no pun intended.

3 out of 4 leaf spring brackets (those that attach the leaf spring to the frame of the truck) rusted through to the point of complete severing the connection of the leaf spring to the frame of the truck.the 4th bracketwas also replaced at the urging of my mechanic since it appeared to be close to breaking as the other 3 did.these bracket failures were a severe safety issue and put the safety of all passengers at risk for personal injury.i personally know several other people who have had this same issue with their ford rangers.these vehicles need to be recalled and for those who have already had to repair their trucks compensation should be made.

Premature severerust on under body of frame and just about every component connected to the frame itself, including body mounts, leaf spring brackets, steering components. Without proper knowledge of this active and aggressive rust can lead to loss of steering, control, and shifting loads as rear leaf springbrackethas already failed after hitting a pothole. Body mounts have rusted leaving the cab with potential to fall off, or shift during a simple driving maneuver . Frame has pancakes of rust flaking off at this time in it's age (now 18 years).this is a well known issue to internet ford truck club members with severe rust that directly affects the safety and integrity of the frame and it's components attached to it.

At 4:50 pm on monday, september 18, 200, i was driving west bound on the 210, a half mile before the 2 interchange in the pasadena, california area.i was driving 65 mph in the second lane when i began to feel like i was driving on a wash board.my back end began fishtailing back and forth.i had to fight to keep my truck in the lane i was in at the time.i glanced into my drivers side mirror and saw chunks and strips of tire flying away from my truck .i looked over my right shoulder and saw that the lanes were clear.i drove directly to the shoulder and stopped.on exiting my vehicle, i saw that all the tread had seperated from the driver's side rear tire.there is no tread left on the tire.i had aaa come and put on the spare.i had a safety check done the next morning at a tire shop.two more of my tires are cracked just outside the tread, around the entire perimeter of the tires on both sides.as i bought the truck used with 26,000 miles on it, i am not really sure if the affected tire was original or a replacement.( dot number: w2fc1m9393 tire size: p225/70r14 )

I purchased thefirestone wilderness at tires at the tire station in sacramento, ca in june 1997.the first problem i had with the tires was a blowout of the rear left tire traveling at 60mph on interstate 5 from california to oregon.during most of the life of my wilderness at tires i was living in bishop, ca and yucca valley, ca, which are both hot desert climates, which i understand are where most of the other tread separations have occurred.the tread separation occurred on the left front tire as i was traveling down a hill on hwy 62 from yucca valley to palm springs, ca.i barely kept control of the vehicle.i thought that it was simply a flat tire, but the tire people said they could not repair it because the tread had separated, and they showed me a large bubbled up area of the tire.because i had heard of similar incidents with wilderness at tires involving fatalities, i opted to replace all four tires (though i still have a wilderness at under the truck as a spare).i replaced them with bridgestone duellers because they had a better reputation for quality, and i had heard at the time that the replacement tires for the faulty wilderness at's should be throught firestone or bridgestone.when the recall became official, i obtained a letter from the tire place noting the tire separation so that i could be reimbursed for the failed tires.shortly after obtaining the letter, not knowing where to send it, my job transferred me to cheyenne wyoming, and i only recently relocated the letter, as well as learned that the wilderness at tires that i purchased were officially deemed as faulty and unsafe.i was able to escape injury, but i attribute that to my excellent driving skills - the tires truly created an unsafe situation for me.

I have been waiting several weeks and still haven't received replacement tires.never received recall notice either.( dot number: tire size: 15 )

Ford specifies only 235/60-15 tires on this vehicle.this size is not available in a winter tire.these tires are unacceptable for use in upstate new york in winter.what can be done to get ford to identify safe winter tires?i have had significant problems stopping the truck in bad conditions and these tires are just no good in winter weather.i believe it is technically unacceptable and fundamentally irresponsible for an automobile company to only recommend a summer tire and then sell the vehicles throughout the country.please help me.i have talked to ford customer service and they stick with the single size recommendation.this is stupid.

I was driving down the interstate at night, aproximately 75 mph.when all of a sudden, i felt a jerk, and the vehicle was out of control.i have had flat tires in the past, and this was a completely different feel.my steering was almost inop, and breaking was almost non existant.i only thank god for looking down on me at that moment.after nearly crashing, i was able to make it over two lanes and finally come to a stop.when i inspected the tire, i had found it completely seperated in one whole piece.after removing the tire, i had to literally unrap the whole tread that had rapped around my tie rod end, and kick the other portion that was jammed in by brake. I have worked on airplanes in the usaf for the past ten years and never once experienced a tire that badly mutilated.it appeared to be a manufacturing defect.you might ask yourself how can i make that assumption?i have been working in quality assurance for the past two years in aviation, and i see manufacturing defects all the time.i have a bachelors in professional aeronautics, with a minor in aviation safety.i think you guys are making a serious mistake by only recalling atx p35/75 r15s.there is an obvious problem with more atx tires. The question is, how many lives will it take before more tire sizes are recalled.reminds me of the "blood priority". I will be taking pictures tomorrow of the damaged tire and the whole tread that was seperated.if you are interested in the pictures, i will gladly send them.i am still severely shaken up over this whole episode, so i apoligize for any typos or gramatical errors.besides, it is very hard to type in this small skinny window.i dont quite understand the rational of it.i'm sure you get thousands of complaints a day, and yet,i hope you see the severity of this issue.thank you for your time. On 6/6/00, while driving home with 2 carpool passengers the left rear tire disintegrated at 70 mph in 105 degree heat. The first indication that something was wrong was an extremely violent thumping from the rear. I thought at first that the driveline broke and was smashing the pavement, but then, after no more than a second, the noise stopped and the steering wheel was almost wrenched from my hands as the truck lurched severely to the left, hurtling us towards the bushes thatare the only separation from oncoming traffic on that stretch of hwy 99 near selma ca.the wheel had actually locked up for an instant as the failed tread wrapped around the axle before ripping free. In the fraction of a second it took to realize i was no longer in control of the vehicle and was probably going to crash into oncoming traffic, the tread peeled off all the way. Instantly, the noiseand violent motion stopped and i watched the tire's tread tumble into the median through the left side mirror.i noticed i had instinctivly took my foot off the gas at the first sign of trouble, and i was now cruising at 60mph with no trouble. I eased into the right lane, slowing further, thing to pull over but the truck was handling fine. Seeing an exit 1/4 mi. Ahead, i headed foritwith flashers at about 50mph. Upon stopping we were amazed to findthe left rear tire stripped of tread, but still fully inflated, (30 psi according to my guage).the shredded tire imploded my rear fender, left black gouges aboveand around the fender, and striped away the mudguard and interior of the wheel well. After changing the tire and depositing my shaken passengers at our carpool site,i went to the nearest tire dealer and bought a set of uniroyal tiger paws. I was told by a mechanic and a postings on a ford ranger web site that rangers have a bad habit of collecting leaves and other small debris in the fan compartment.the mechanic who cleaned the compartment out saved a leaf and it showed singe marks (partially burnt).i was told that the best way to not let the build up get so bad is to clean it out as soon as the whirring noise starts when you turn on the fan/air conditioning.the build up of debris in such a small compartment causes the debris to become very dry and could cause a fire.also, the o2 sensor!not only have i been told by others who suffered from this problem, been forwarned of it by other ranger owners, it happens only on long, extended drives.a simple diagnostic test confirmed my o2 problem, only after the dealer failed to diagnose the problem.my check engine light would come on, causing panic (on a long drive, by yourself), money spent trying to diagnose the problem due to ineptness at joe myers, and then extremely poor gas mileage, and poor in-town performance.i was told to expect to replace the o2 sensor again in 6 months to a year...therefore, possibly pointing to a computer problem.at the very least, it is a built-in bi-yearly repair that affects other systems.if i do have to replace it again (at a hefty $160 a pop) - i'll let you know.

The two problems are speedometer does not work properly and hasn't for some time, at speeds over 55 the needle either goes to 85 and stay's there or bounces around between 50 and 85, both dealers contacted about the problem have said w/o even seeing truck it needs new speedo b/c the original batch used from the factory were defective.problem 2 is the parking brake, was fixed under recall but has never worked correctly and dealer has said they won't fix again.

The frame and suspension is rottinghere is a rust hole in my frame where the coil spring goes. The truck body has no other signs of rust and has never been abused or neglected.

Vehicle speed control remains in the highway cruising position after the accelerator is released. Originally, was a cold weather problem, but now is occurring in warmer weather. A november 30, 1995 recall exists on the vehicle speed control, but gambino ford in lockport, n.y. Denies it.

The malfunctioning of the cruise control has caused the brake lights to be inoperative. Dealer says the lights are connected to the cruise control.

Cruise control failed to disengage on toll road-nearly crashed into toll both which was filled with other cars. Was forced to panic brake. System release at about 30 mph. -problem repeated again on 06,21,01 at lower speed. I was forced to go through a stpo light. Could not stop. I have reported this defect to ford and told that no recalls exist. This is a serious problem. My life was put at risk, on two occasions.

Brake switch failed, causingbrake lights not to come on.switch is some how connected tocruise control. Whenbrakes are applied to disengage cruise control, it will engagewhenbrakes are let go.dealer has been contacted.

Sudden acceleration.

While driving at approximately at 40mph,suddenly accelerator pedal stuck while attempting to brake, engine over powered brakes, resulting in rearending a truck, driver sustained neck and back injuries.

The vehicle lost power while driving 50 mph.the accelerator assembly attachment to the cable broke.the dealer appointment was made.while merging onto the freeway, the consumer heard a pop coming from the gas pedal and lost power.the gas pedal was loose and the consumer had to apply excessive force to get any power.when the consumer pulled in to park, the gas pedal fell completely off.the pedal was spot welded to the firewall.the spot weld had fatigue cracks. *sc

Gas pedal sticking.

When gas pedal is depressed to floor it is jammed there by the carpeting leaving you at full throttle. Must manually pull the pedal up which is dangerous while driving or turn the key off.

Throttle is sticking to floor, almost causing an accident , dealer has attempted to fix vehicle, but defect has reoccurred. Consumer will contact dealer again.

The pin has bent out of shape, and this causes the pin to come out of the gas pedal.when the pin comes out from the pedal, pedal falls off while in use.

While driving at 5mph and applying accelerator pedal, it snapped off.consumer was forced to pull over.i

Going 55mph the accelerator left the consumer's foot and went to the floorand would not come off the floor before slowing the vehicle down, the vehicle accelerated to 85 mph because of a broken accelerator cable.

Throttle linkage keeps getting stuck, dealer can not locate the problem.tt

Since the vehicle was 3 years old the heater fan when set on the lowest two settings , will start to smoke and one can smell burning under the dash. It will stop when fan switch is on 3,4 or 5 setting. Contacted ford years ago they said not under warrenty.
