It was late summer, close to early fall 2017. My two sons, ages 17 and 15, had just gotten out of football practice and were getting into the 1999 mustang to come home. (my 17 year old son, matthew, had been driving for quite awhile, and had no traffic infractions or violations yet either, nor does he now. He has beem a careful driver.)they were driving very slowly, as they had just exited their parking spot, and then proceeded ahead, and while driving in very slow motion went over a small bump or node, or barely anything, in the enumclaw high school parking lot. The airbags both blew out suddenly, slightly injuring my 15 year old son's hand, and blinding and pushing them both backward in their seats. Both of them jumped out of the car immediately, very scared. They had been driving very slowly, so were able to stop suddenly do this and still safely enough to immediately get out. Many of the football boys were watching, as they were driving right by them, and everyone broke out in emotion. One witness claimed that it caused the wheels to lift off the ground. They drove home that day, with airbags out, but since they have quite driving the car, as it appears to be illegal to drive it without airbags. Now we don't know what to do about this situation, and we are left feeling short of one of our necessary vehicles. Since there was not actually an accident that set off the airbags, and the car is minimally insured, we don't know what to do about it. Note: i am not sure about the exact date, but it is close.

Consumer was involved in 50 mph frontal collision in which the driver's/passenger'sair bags did not deploy, alsoseat belts did not lock up.please give any further details.

Car has stalled on me on four occations.three times were during turns and i lost all power (brakes and steering).i almost had an accident due to the stalling.last occurance was on 12/30/99.it stalled whenever my foot was off the accelerator.the dealer has been notified of earlier incidences and could not find a problem.this has been a dangerous situation.my children, others, or myself could have been killed or seriously injured since i have no control once the car stalls.

Several months ago my car would stall whenever i would slow down (pressing the clutch and brake).i would have to restart my car while coasting, because my brake pedal would not go down to allow me to stop.i took it to audubon ford in baton rouge, la for service.they replaced the idle air control valve.the problem didn't disappear, but became much less frequent.today, i was on the interstate and had to slow down for traffic.it stalled again, and worse, my brakes stopped working.this is a very serious issue and needs to be recalled.

Car stalls out while in motion. Has happened turning a corner, on a bumpy road (2" road construction drop off), and for no apparant reason. Does not happen very often, but can be very dangerous if in heavy traffic.2) when trying to put car in reverse while stopped (coming out of my garage or a parking space, for example) gear shift refuses to go into reverse. Putting into first does not help. I have found that letting up on the clutch just the right amount will usually let it go into reverse. 3) seatbelts are much to sensitive. Just driving down the road you can hear them repeatedly clicking, locking and unlocking. You have to make any movement very slowly or else you will be snapped back to the seat. Turning to look over your shoulder at traffic will get you locked in. Extremely dangerous. Much safer for the driver to go without using the seatbelt, because they are more likely to cause an accident.

The contact owns a 1999 ford mustang gt. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, she smelled a strong odor of antifreeze. The contact pulled over and noticed a crack in the plastic manifold and coolant leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis, who stated that the manifold would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that there was not a recall related to the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. The was unavailable.

When the consumer started his vehile in vehicle in the morning it was very loud for about 15-20 minutes.he also stated that when he made a right turn there was a loud knocking noise.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who thought the problem was the manifold heater valve.*nlm

On january 3, 2005, the heater core on my 1999 mustang had to be completely replaced, including the thermostat.the windows had fogged up before and the car smelled like syrup but i thought it was just vents.the heating core had to be replaced and the coolant had to be recharged and replaced also this came up to $700 dollars.on august 16 2005, 2 weeks after changing the coolant the water pump had to be replaced, once again the system had to be flushed the cost was$400.on july 2006 i had the coolant system flushed and changed, 1 month after the coolant was changed the windows starting fogging up, i was driving my vehicle and i was unable to get a clear view of the road due to the foggy windows, the heating core once again has to be replaced, is going to cost me another $600 dollars to fix this, i have all of the paperwork from firestone, i have kept up with all of the maintenance required by the manufacturer.

Dealer contacted.the dealer could not understand how the transmission had no leaks but was out of transmission fluid.this vehicle has had 2 blown head gaskets, the rear seal in the motor was replaced, the heater core, the transmission, and the catalytic convertor have all been replaced.*jg

Vehicle started to overheat while driving, dealer determinedheadgasket was blown and rear seal of engine had to be replaced.

I have a 1999 mustang 3.8l-v6.recently, the car began to expel a white vapor from the tailpipe when the engine is hot, along with a vibration noise.this has happened as many as 2-3 times per day.i took the car to a ford dealer for service and replaced an air pump.this did not correct the problem.i did some research on the internet and found that many people have had the same problem which turned out to be due to blown head gaskets.i discussed that issue with the dealer representative and they said that there is no record of that kind of problem with a 1999 mustang.i have found that this is not true.

Idler pulley missing.nlm

Thepulley slides on to an aluminum sleeve that is part of the front plate on the engine.i was doing a routine inspection when i noticed the pulley slightly tilted. I applied pressure to the belt and was able to pull the pulley, bolt that goes into the plate to hold the pulley on, and the metal sleeve that was broken off of the front engine plate.if this pulley would have came off, the belt would have been instantly frayed by an adjacent engine component resulting in loss of control of the vehicle and possibly power steering.i contacted ford and they told me there were no reports, recalls, or factory defects.i appreciate any assistance you can provide in letting me know if this is a factory defect or just shoddy workmanship in my particular vehicle.my home number is 011-49-6333-980903.i live in germany.thank you for any assistance you provide.

I took the car back to the dealership 2 days after purchased and asked for another car the car's doors were out of line there was paint missing the windsheld had a crack on it from the factory.i always changed my oil every 3000 miles and the guy would ask why it was low but, said it wasn't dangleous low so i thought it was normal.come to realize it was using oil.now the top is leaking.all i wanted was for them to get me another car from day 2 and they said it was mine it had already been titled to me and would cost me to get into another car.the dealership wouldn't call me back after i informed them of the problem after a month i called them back and asked when they was going to fix my car, i felt like they had sold it to me now it was my problem and it has been a big problem since i got it.this was the 3rd car i had purchased from this company and that didn't matter.the heck with you its yours is how i felt they were telling me.i have been trying to get them to do something for a year and a half telling everyone i know but, i can't seem to get anywhere.if you know someone who can help with this problem please call me.i don't want this to happen to anyone one else.i wouldn't wish this pain on anyone!!! the car was sold to me new but, it had almost 200 miles on it .there two slips in my car where a girl had driven it on 2 seperate times. Car stalls when starting on a cold engine regardless of outside temp. Something sticks under hood. If you hold your foot on accelerator, it will stay running but will abruptly die when let off pedal. The docks in this engine set up a harmonic vibration between 1800-2300rpm.ford has determined this is a normal condition for "some" of these engines.to the unsuspecting buyer of this automobile he/she will have to endure a melodic, approx every second, vibration that is transmitted through the car.from what i have read on various bulletin boards this problem was brought to ford's attention prior to my purchase but they still continue to produce the automobile and now have concluded this is normal.please look into this for those of us who have been taken advantage off.sincerely, bill chase.

3.8l engine replaced by dealer, replacement engine same problems.

Engine has constant problem of stalling missfiring,hesitates,loss of power,always in and out of dealership they cannot fix problem. Stalled one time in middle of busy intersection.

Ford mustang conv. 1999 3.8 liter engine. Reported engine problems/acceleration probs 3 times to dealerships ( one time to another dealership outside ford jurisdiction that noticed excessive gasket leakage) before 12,000 miles. Finally, after not being able to find problem all dealership visits, finally replaced w/ refurbished engine demonstrating same problem at 31207 miles approximately. (please note- it appears as though dealership on two occasions tried to change the problems i notated to the dealership when i told the representative my complaints. Gave me back invoice two times with modifications that were not original complaint! on the second time- tracked down the manager and complained directly and asked why the dealership had done this. He had no answer for this employees action.) the only difference with the new refurbished engine is that there is no burning smell and the engine unexpectedly vibrates so violently that the whole car shakes and gearshift vibrates to and fro violently- the initial acceleration complaint remains. The violent engine shaking does not happen all the time.this new engine has beeninstalled only 3 days. Transmission/ clutch assembly- gasket replacement (excessive burning smell in vehicle). No coating under vehicle to protect interior components- dealership fixed. Inside of windshield cracked/ chipped internally- no apparent reason. Vehicle is garage kept. Brake assembly replaced per recall. Interior dashboard loses color- replaced two times. Convertible top apparatus-excessive rust- needs replacement. Cd player stopped working since 20,000 miles but had replaced due to time constraints at 30,000 miles. Convertible roof gasket- replaced due to defect. There are other problems but i am sick of typing. This is absolutely the worst ford product i have ever purchased.not only that, but the delray lincoln/mercury repair department appears corrupt. I wonder if they have to pay for the repairs and what their incentives are for ly

Egr system caused buck or skip feeling.has been in and out of verious dealers since purchase date.other dealers have experienced same problem with no resolutions.will provide more details if needed.

Dt:caller'ssays vehicle had a cracked manifold intake. Caller believed this part should not break down. Dealer and manufacturer didoffer him any help. Callerhad to replace the gasket two years ago, and it was getting worse all the time.

The exhaust manifold was cracked when the vehicle started to lose power and made a loud noise as if the muffler had fallen off. Also, there was a rust spot on the roof of the vehicle.

The first problem i had was when i turned the air conditioning unit on water started leaking on my foot, then i took it to the dealership(under ford warranty at the time) and they said some "plastic part was missing"a couple of months later it did the same thing. Then all of sudden i was driving the car and and it jumps from drive to another gear.then i go through a car was and water comes in my car and the dealership "readjusted the top" and stated everything would be okay. Months later i hear a ticking sound when its in park and a ticking sound and " i was told it could be an exhaust leak". Next it rains and water started coming in again. The final draw was 12-21-00 and the fuel gauge started moving back and forth and the light comes onsaying "low fuel" and the car isn't empty. I can'tget the dealerships here to answer the phone and ford won't help because "i didn't buy their warranty" when in fact the dealership told me to buy some extended warranty which has proven to be useless.

1999 ford mustang a/c stop working rebuild compression*cwthe consumer stated the air conditioner stopped working. The dealer replaced it with a re-built compressor and charged the consumer $529.17. One year later, the ac stopped working again and the dealerreplaced it with another re-built compressor, but the consumer was not charged. Three months later, the ac compressor failed again and they installed another re-built ac compressor and the consumer was charged $ 454.77.

The plastic lens coverings for the headlights have discolored and turned milky in appearance.proper illumination is no longer provided by the headlights.there is no way to clear up the problem.multiple attempts using various cleaning or polishing agents have proven futile.this is an insidious problem, akin to having one's vision slowly get bad so you learn to live with it.the vehicle has only 66,000 miles on it, and the problem was apparent well before this mileage.has not been replaced due to excessive cost of parts.

Exterior headlights are inoperable.when turned on, high beam indicator is on, but headlights are not on.high beams are also inoperable.

The headlights work fine, but what i've notice along with my mustang my, mother's ford taurus as well, the housing for the headlights apperas to be extremely pitted making it difficult to see out of them at night.i've tried to use a plastic cleaning solution for them, one from 3m seemed to help clean the headlamps greatly and improved the conditions some, but i've notice that the headlights are getting expotentialy worse.i am going to go speak with ford durring the week and look at other headlamps on the new mustangs.but i am mainly curiouse as to weather or not other drivers have reported that their headlamps look like the have a film on them or are pitted making it difficult to see out of.(i use a certified car cleaning solution to wash the vehicles.it's made by tutle wax and is supposed to be safe for all finishes)

There is gas coming from the gas tank, and the consumer can smell when driving and getting into the vehicle. Consumer noticed that the clamps weren't sealed on tightly.

We were traveling northbound on i95 near the vicinity of edgewater, fl to st augustine, fl, when an 18-wheeler trucks tire debris hit underneath my vehicle.after the impact, i immediately opened the driver and passenger side of our car and a heavy burning smell invaded the interior of my vehicle.i stopped the car and my daughter and i checked around our vehicle and my fully-filled gasoline tank was leaking.i called 911 and left the perimeter of the vehicle for safety until the police and the fire dept arrived.if i had not opened my windows this leak would have ignited with the hot exhaust pipe and my daughter and i could have burned and our car.

Consumer was unable to closedriver's side door becauselatch wouldn't secure it. Samething was happening withpassenger'sdoor.also, all four windows would not roll up the right way, but instead, would go over the top.in addition, after 600 milestransmissionfailed without a warning.

Car stalls out while in motion. Has happened turning a corner, on a bumpy road (2" road construction drop off), and for no apparant reason. Does not happen very often, but can be very dangerous if in heavy traffic.2) when trying to put car in reverse while stopped (coming out of my garage or a parking space, for example) gear shift refuses to go into reverse. Putting into first does not help. I have found that letting up on the clutch just the right amount will usually let it go into reverse. 3) seatbelts are much to sensitive. Just driving down the road you can hear them repeatedly clicking, locking and unlocking. You have to make any movement very slowly or else you will be snapped back to the seat. Turning to look over your shoulder at traffic will get you locked in. Extremely dangerous. Much safer for the driver to go without using the seatbelt, because they are more likely to cause an accident.

Pre-accident conditions: daylight, raining, car stopped at red light. I had a hard time shifting so i brought it in for a check and an independent service found this wrong:input shaft retainer...i also need my clutch replaced because of the damage caused by this.my car only had around 25,000 miles on it at the time.the service person told me that this part was installed wrong and human error caused the problem.my bill was $751.12 and i contacted ford about this and they told me basically tough luck.there is no way a transmission should go bad at 25,000 miles.can you look into this for me?i still have the bad part and you can see the damage that was made to this part.thanks

My seat belts do not function well. Sometimes, they retract very slow, lose and sometimes they do not even retract. Also, sometime they get stuck. When i brake hard, they stuck and too tight....on the other hand sometimes they are very lose and doesn't stay tight to my chest, same is the case with the navigator seat belts and also the rear seat seat belts. Passenger's side seat belt gets tighter and tighterwhen going over a bump, tothe point where consumer can't breath.consumer has to either undo belt while driving, or hold belt in hand to avoid being squeezed to death. This is a copy of the e mail::product safety alert! i want to first state: i do not currently own a ford vehicle. The vehicle that concerns me is 1999 mustang with power driver's seat with switches mounted on the front of the seat (and like vehicles) i was recently installing a remote car starter/alarm for a customer who owns a 1999 ford mustang convertible, and i was positioned under the driver's side dashboard (on my back/side, in the footwell) and was securing a module under the dashboard and i moved slightly, and the electric seat started to move forward (the side of my torso made contact with the adjustment switch) at that point the seat was powering forward pinning the switch to my torso in the forward position (i was unable to reach it) i was being crushed! and could not stop the seat! my neck was bent at an unnatural angle and my face was coming in contact with a rather hot shop light that was positioned near the accelerator petal. I was alone in the shop, luckily i was able to sound the horn and get assistance from a fellow employee who was in our showroom, at the point he rescued me (by stuffing his hand behind my back and relieving the pinned switch, luckily he was familiar with the switch location) i was pinned between the knee bolster and the seat in (apx a 6" space) and under the steering wheel, and i am a large man of 290lbs! the seat was still continuing to move forward. I was unable to free myself and could not breath or even yell for help because my body was so compacted, when i exhaled i was unable to inhale again to yell out. At this venture i still have discomfort in my back, neck, and ribs from this incident (i am not suggesting you contact your lawyers) but i am asking you to please alert your technicians, owners, etc., who might be put in this same deadly/dabilitating situation. Contact your design dept. For switch relocation etc. It is extremely dangerous! i hope that you will return this email/take action on this very dangerous event.

Passive anti-theft system had transceiver malfunction (broken wires).

Front end of vehicle was backed into, damage was $ 1100.00. A couple of days later,driver's seatback fell back.

I took the car in to have the rear suspension knuckle replaced and my vehicle comes out with a faulty brake calliper. Something is wrong wtih the proceedure in fixing this knuckle or the technicians working on the vehicles are carless. I have read different messages on on blue oval message board about individuals have problems with their rear wheel brakes involving the caliper assembly and or rotor locking up.

Bumper mounting bracket is poorly designed and once the integrity of one of the bracket tabs is compromised, the whole bumper will fall off with time due to the additional stress on the other bracket tabs. Had i not taken it in to be repainted (due to factory defective paint job), the bumper would have come off while driving. I now have to purchase a new front bumper because the warranty will not cover it. The mounting brackets should be reinforced or redesigned.

Vehicle intermittently cuts off. Vehicle has been in /out of dealer shop on four occasions, and problemstill occurring.also, remote control keys for car do not work.

Last winter , ice and snow seem to catch at the bottom of the door.as a result you can't open the door and it has put a dent in the door.i see other mustangs with a dent in the same place, so i know they have had the same problem. *nlm

Finally, after not being able to find problem all dealership visits, finally replaced w/ refurbished engine demonstrating same problem at 31207 miles approximately. (please note- it appears as though dealership on two occasions tried to change the problems i notated to the dealership when i told the representative my complaints. Gave me back invoice two times with modifications that were not original complaint! on the second time- tracked down the manager and complained directly and asked why the dealership had done this. He had no answer for this employees action.) the only difference with the new refurbished engine is that there is no burning smell and the engine unexpectedly vibrates so violently that the whole car shakes and gearshift vibrates to and fro violently- the initial acceleration complaint remains. The violent engine shaking does not happen all the time.this new engine has beeninstalled only 3 days. Transmission/ clutch assembly- gasket replacement (excessive burning smell in vehicle). No coating under vehicle to protect interior components- dealership fixed. Inside of windshield cracked/ chipped internally- no apparent reason. Vehicle is garage kept. Brake assembly replaced per recall. Interior dashboard loses color- replaced two times. Convertible top apparatus-excessive rust- needs replacement. Cd player stopped working since 20,000 miles but had replaced due to time constraints at 30,000 miles. Convertible roof gasket- replaced due to defect. There are other problems but i am sick of typing. This is absolutely the worst ford product i have ever purchased.not only that, but the delray lincoln/mercury repair department appears corrupt. I wonder if they have to pay for the repairs and what their incentives are for ly

The exhaust manifold was cracked when the vehicle started to lose power and made a loud noise as if the muffler had fallen off. Also, there was a rust spot on the roof of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 1999 ford mustang.while driving 35 mph, the contact heard a loud noise.the noise was caused by the aluminum rim splitting in half, causing the right front wheel to turn on its own.the wheel detached from the vehicle and the frame dropped.the contact had the vehicle towed to his residence.the current and failure mileages were 96,000.

Had traveled 45mph & arrived home. Got out of vehicle & noticed right side tires were flat. Contacted & took vehicle to dealer to check tires. Informed that tires from goodyear p205/65r15 not under warranty. Ford had no warranty on the tires.

Recommended tire pressure omitted from certification label as required by nhtsa. It cannot be found anywhere on the vehicle.

The kuhmo ecsta supra 712 was a replacement set of tires on my l999 mustang gt convertible.the tire is designed to displace water through a large, lateral center channel.from reading descriptions of the tire, this tire design is intended to provide a high level of hydroplaning resistance.as an automotive association executive director with many, many years of operating high performance vehicles, i am truly concerned about this particular design.the tire seems to have signifcant lateral gripping capability both in wet and dry conditions.however, the deep, lateral center channel seems to make this tire unsafe for anything other than a perfectly smooth highway.this groove "grabs" any perfections in the roadway that are parallel to the actual road surface and will actually "snatch" the steering wheel from the grip of the driver.anything in the roadway such as "overpavings" which create parallel ridges, heavy truck traffic lane depressions in the road surface will do likewise.while not a design engineer, it appears that this groove down the center mimics a train wheel on the track.the train can only follow the track due to the track inself being inserted into the train wheel.any imperfection in the roadway that is parallel to the direction of the highway and the rotation of the tire creates a remarkably similar sensation.while i have not had an accident, i have nearly lost control of the vehicle on four occasions when the groove "gripped" any of the aforementioned road imperfections.i am 53 years old, a graduate of numerous decision driving and performance driving schools and am not an amateur in the realm of vehicle operations and dynamics.in all candor, these tires are scary and i will not let my teen daughter drive the car with the new tires. I was driving south on i-85 with the cruise control set at 65 on a clear day.the vehicle went into a skid, and before i could stop the skid i hit the guardrail.there has been a recall on the cruise control for my vehicle (recall 99s09) which i believe contributed to this accident.

The car lurches forward or backward without warning after placing in gear. Rpms go down, then surge causing vehicle to "launch" whatever direction you're aimed at.this has been going on or 1 1/2 years.25 days in shop to no avail. Blaine @ ford customer assistance, is well aware of it (file #203312)yet nothing is being done.the car is fast, runs clean, uses no oil, performs well, except for the launching situation. Ca consumer affairs contacted as well.i love the car, but want it fixed before someone gets hurt!!

I have having issues with wiring. Wide shield wipers don't work, multiple head lights are out and dome light stays on sometimes

Pre-accident conditions: daylight, raining, car stopped at red light. A few minutes prior to arriving at the red light the driver's power seat moved all the way forward completly on its own accord after stopping at the red light i re-adjusted the driver's seat and when the light turned green i proceeded making a right turn in my normal "old lady" fashion.about 3/4 through the 90 degreeturn the rear wheels lost traction and began to slide to the left.i immediately hit the brake and turned the wheel to the left.(i suppose it is possible that i accidently hit the cruise control button located on the wheel at this time).anyway the car engine contiued to rev and the rear wheels continued to spin, driving me into a complete 360 degree turn, all the time with my food hard on the brake pedal.while in this spin the rear of the car jumped a median curb twice, crossed two lanes ofasphalt, jumped another curb and finally crash into a concretelight pole.only then did the car stall and the drive wheels stop spinning.

Recall 99s09 for the cruise control system not performed due to lack of parts. 99v062.

Consumer had an accident due to a defect with the cruise control speed cable as mentioned in recall 99 v 062 001. This vehicle was not part of recall due to vin. . consumer states the cruise control was set at 53 mph, consumer attempted to hit the brakes after seeing a vehicle stopped, but the vehicle would not slow down, and consumer hit the other vehicle, consumer suffered neck injuries.

Consumer received recall letter (99v062) regarding a possible defective cruise control cable. Consumer brought in the vehicle at 7:30 a.m. For repairs and was told to pick up the vehicle at 4:30. Consumer arrived at 4:37 and the repairs were not done, but vehicle had an extra 32 miles on it as if it had been driven after delivery. Repairs still have not been done due to lack of parts and poor.

Several months ago my car would stall whenever i would slow down (pressing the clutch and brake).i would have to restart my car while coasting, because my brake pedal would not go down to allow me to stop.i took it to audubon ford in baton rouge, la for service.they replaced the idle air control valve.the problem didn't disappear, but became much less frequent.today, i was on the interstate and had to slow down for traffic.it stalled again, and worse, my brakes stopped working.this is a very serious issue and needs to be recalled.

The contact also stated that the brake pedal was applied, but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact shut the engine off while driving in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 99v062001 (vehicle speed control). The approximate failure mileage was 165,000.

On january 3, 2005, the heater core on my 1999 mustang had to be completely replaced, including the thermostat.the windows had fogged up before and the car smelled like syrup but i thought it was just vents.the heating core had to be replaced and the coolant had to be recharged and replaced also this came up to $700 dollars.on august 16 2005, 2 weeks after changing the coolant the water pump had to be replaced, once again the system had to be flushed the cost was$400.on july 2006 i had the coolant system flushed and changed, 1 month after the coolant was changed the windows starting fogging up, i was driving my vehicle and i was unable to get a clear view of the road due to the foggy windows, the heating core once again has to be replaced, is going to cost me another $600 dollars to fix this, i have all of the paperwork from firestone, i have kept up with all of the maintenance required by the manufacturer.

Consumer was unable to closedriver's side door becauselatch wouldn't secure it. Samething was happening withpassenger'sdoor.also, all four windows would not roll up the right way, but instead, would go over the top.in addition, after 600 milestransmissionfailed without a warning.

A few days ago i discovered a crack (15" long) in my windshield.there are no marks from anything hitting it.and nothing has hit the windshield while operating.since this is is a convertible, i am wondering if this could have been caused by the vehicle flexing.i have noticed that the vehicle is "looser" than any none-convertibles i have ever driven.while driving slowly over uneven pavement, i can hear the window/door seals squiking from the flexing.has any recall been issued for this?
