Last nightthe1999 ford expedition eddie bauer edition suddenly went up in flames from a fire that started by itself under the hood of the vehicle. It was parked inthe carport next to thetahoe which we also lost due to the fire. The fordvehicle had not been driven for 2 days before it went up into flames. Welost 2 vehicles and our carport. The fire investigator could not find the exact cause because of all the damage. However, we knewwewere not alone in this. Therewere hundreds of people thatwere victims of ford motor company and their faulty vehicles that suddenlywent up in flames .
Rear wiper stopped working occasionally.the odometer failed intermittently.no repairs have been made; can't afford to at the present time.
The instrument cluster panel in my 1999 ford windstar has been going haywire since may 2007.all the needles were going round and round while i was driving.i had taken it to griffen brothers and they con not find a instrument cluster anywhere.they called ford motors and they were told the instrument cluster was in national back order.if they are in national back order, that must mean that there are alot of the same problems everywhere.shouldn't this have been a recall issue?on august 30, 2007 griffen called me and said that they have received the instrument cluster that they ordered on 8/20, 2007.please let me know what any information you might have about the ford windstars having this type of problem.a t.v. Station i had contacted about his problem told me to contact you.they are also interested in knowing what the results are.
I parked my 1999 eddie bauer expedition on the street 2 blocks from my home at about 6:40pm the night of april 17, 2005. At 11:16pm the police rang my bell to inform me that my vehicle had been involved in a fire.the front of the vehicle was completely burned and destroyed.the greatest amount of damage was on the passenger side. There was only liability insurance on this vehicle so it is considered a total loss.while there is a class action suit for 2000 ford vehicles, there is none for 1999.there should be!
Number 3 spark plug was ejected .car was towed, and as of this email is being repaired in florida. We were on vacation at the time. Head was removed, and is being repaired. We had to rent a car to get back to pa. Also have to fly back to florida to drive car back to pa.
I have been having a problem with my air conditioner not working and then it started blowing hot air. A couple days later my rpm monitor stopped along with my electric cooling fan, so now my car over heats and the temperature gauge doesn't even let us know that the car is over heated. We also put 2 constant control relay modules in this vehicle and are skeptical of a 3rd one. My car only has 77,000 miles on it and the extended warranty expired after 75,000 and when i contacted ford they told me there is nothing they can do.can anyone out there help me? this is the 2nd electrical problem along with numerous others this car has been having problems from the start.
I must replace my intake manifold due to a leak on my 1999 ford windstar.i see that there is a recall on other ford models for that year but it looks like it doesn't apply to windstars.i feel it should be since i have the same problem.is there anything that can be done about it?
Ford expedition - spark plug blow out (one through cylinder head, 2 coil) 3 total and counting.
After taking our '99 ford expedition in due to a spark plug shooting out while my husband was driving to lunch we had it repaired of course, $517 dollars later.he lost time at work that day to get it towed and of course we were without our vehicle for a week at our expense. There was a thread repair insert in cylinder #5 spark plug hole done to repair the problem on march 15, 2005.last thursday sept. 15thit blew again as my husband was leaving our home with our son. The head needs to be replaced. We are in the middle of deciding what to do as we can't afford this $3,000 dollar problem that if you inspect is very common, more so than the speed control recall.even a ford employee my husband was discussing this with trying to help us out said he sees this every day!
I purchased a 1999 ford windstar sel 3 years ago and have had hell with it ever since. The vehicle had only been owned by one other person and he had to put a new transmission in it right over 50,000 miles. @ 130,000 miles i too had to put another transmission in it. Now the van has 160000 and i am again having trouble with the transmission. This is ridiculous. I think that ford has done a terrible job of taking care of their customers and they are loosing me as a customer. I will never buy another ford.
I purchased a 1999 ford winstar in 2005 and my transmission started to go 3 months after purchase my warranty had expired and had the transmission replaced for 1500.00 while searching your site i discovered many defects and recalls to my van which i plan to take to a ford dealer.i wanted to know if there is a recall for 1999 ford windstar transmissions.
Purchased in may 2001 - 1 week later -back at the dealership with the "check engine" light on. Had to fix that. Many misc. Things i've had to replace on the van also, to the tune of $1500.00 out of pocket.in 2003, my "check transmission" light went on every time it was driven. Dec 2004, i'm by myself w/2 kids, 1 hour from home on a sunday. Car is smoking on front end. To make the long story short, i ended up getting a new transmission & radiator at a ford dealership. Total cost from me -$3200.00.doing research online, i find that it is quite common for 1999 ford windstar's to have to have transmission's replaced with low miles. Hundreds of people have posted on msn auto's about the same problems. Mine was replaced at 70,000!! my new transmission (ford factory) "dies" when i put the car into gear. So, after a 2 week wait to get into ford, i find that it needs another transmission, because my $3200 i got 3 weeks ago, one has something wrong. So, i'll be out for 1 week & still have a "lemon" car. What makes it difficult is that i didn't have $3200.00 for this car. I'm still paying on the 15,000.00 we paid on this vehicle, in anticipation of not having any major car problems.a recall of these vehicles should be investigated.1999 ford windstar se.
Power sterring pump and rack and pinion leaking.
My 1999 ford taurus with only 59,371 miles on it had the rack and pinion to go out, isn't it a little to soon for something like that to happen?with me living on guam parts are hard to come by, but i am searching the web.
Very bad vibration problem, believed to be from the front end, the tires were balanced by goodyear and it was found that the rims were out of round. This created a safety hazard at 45-55 mph. The ford chassis motorhome hotline refused to acknowledge the problem. My attorney currently has 4 cases pending against ford and fleetwood motorhomes. This is a serious problem that neither ford or fleetwood will address. My motorhome vibrated so bad that the tail section dropped 2 inches, curled the leaf springs backwards, caused stress cracks, rattles and destroyed the rear ring and pinion gears.
Vehicle experiences continued problems with suspension stability and control, several replacements of suspension/steering components...tie rod/s bent/broken causing to lose control at low speed (thank god i wasn''t going faster at the time) wheels flopped on its sides continued 4 wheel alignment and replacement of several front end, arms, joints, tie rods, front end repairs costing $2000... Plus...vehicle sways all over the road and pulls right and then pulls left with a lot of play in steering wheel after several 4/wheel alignments. I have had the vehicle into courtesy ford mattydale ny several times now to fix front end. Now good year tells me they fell the tie rods need to be replaced again???problems \ this is a very dangerous situation and should be definitely a recall on the ford expiditions. Furthermore, all wheel drive / 4 wheel drive often is locked into 4 wheel will not come out of 4 wheel drive. ***also, digital dash short or loss of use lights on dash going out including odometer often go out and the turn back on i have seen several complaints regarding all of the above...for the 99 ford expeditions. *** the brake pedal also locks up if/when the tire spin or engine revs up you try to apply the breaks however, the break pedal will not move it's locked and will not move unlit tires stop spinning or eng. Stops revving...anti-lock problem???
I noticed a handling problem on my 1999 ford expedition.inspection revealed broken sway bar links on both sides.i read about the recalls pertaining to this problem stating ford acknowledged the problem and would replace the original links with a stronger link.i just had my vehicle serviced at butterfield ford in sandy, utah and pointed out this problem.they stated they were not under any obligation to replace the links.ironically, they did not even ask me if i wanted them replaced and they released my vehicle without replacing them.i have never had this vehicle off road nor has it ever hit a curb, chuckhole, bump etc. With any abnormal force.these links are clearly defective and should be a recall item, if they are not.
I have a 1999 ford windstar and it has about 155,000 miles on it. My wife was coming home with five of my six kids and turned off of the 4-lane highway onto our exit for our house and the rear axle broke..if she had stayed on the 4-lane at 65 m.p.h. We could've had multiple injuries or even deaths !! i have reviewed all kinds of complaints on the same problem...why haven't there been any recalls.
The tread completely came off the tire. Because the rv has 2 rear tires, when this defective one de-treaded, the other tire compensated for it.( dot number: vd1l 1xd tire size: lt22575r16 )

My fordexplorer1999suddenly accelerated forward as i shifted form drive to park covering a distance of about 20feet going over the floor defense, climbing the side walk and thengoing on the first step of the building stairs. I injured myself and the car was declared total loss.
We own a 1999 ford windstar van.we were at a school event with our children and when we got in our car, we thought we spotted smoke but was not sure if it was or if it was exhaust from the car in front of us (we were parallel parked).we went to the gas station and under the lights we saw alot of smoke pouring out from under the hood.my husband popped the hood and there was a fire!we backed the van up away from the gas pumps and everyone got out fine.we had to use a fire extinguisher to get the fire out.we took it to a dealership and the technicians there showed us that the cruise control switch was messed up.we had them order us a new part and we replaced it.the wiring harness in the van is still damaged as we did not have the funds to replace it.i am reporting this because of the recall i heard about yesterday (1/27/05) regarding the 2000 ford trucks and suvs.i am positive that our van had the same defect.

My 1999 ford expediton went into total melt down 5 months ago. After a rain storm i went into it and after starting it the windshield wipers went nuts the radio died when the car went into reverse the lights went on and off. The car has been to my mechanic who finally went to ford and now it has been back for the 3rd timea new windshield new computer and still if it rainsand now if it is humid all hell brakes loose.now that i see all the complaints and 2,000 dollars later all hell will brake loose with ford because i am willing to do whatever i can and have to get results.
Front windshield wiper on my ford 1999 expedition operates by itself when car is on. The wiper switch is set to off when they come on. Worried about electrical issues with this vehicle from reading other consumer entries.
