The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The driver was traveling 80 mph and crashed into another vehicle. The front passenger side air bag failed to deploy. Both the driver and the passenger were killed. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileage was unavailable. The vin was unavailable.

Airbag on front passenger side is bulging out of the seams...on top of the dash...i bought the car used and it was fine...there were no accidents to cause this, it just started busting through the leather seams...

Air bag light is stuck on randomly makes a "dinging" sound. Tires continue to wear out at a rapid speed, ignition switch will get stuck an engine will not turn over-can't find a cause. And the a/c stopped working this week, mechanic looking for a leak unable to figure out these issues and why they all started with in past month. Each problem they can't find solutions or tell me it's probably a sensor or the heat. They hook it up to the computer and it shows nothing wrong?!?!

Airbag light went off and diagnostics indicate clock spring fault.airbag potentially not functional.

Problem failure of front airbags to deploy. Our 2009 ford focus was rear ended while stopped in traffic by a pt cruiser traveling approx. 35-40 mph. The impact pushed the focus into the auto in front smashing the focus front end. The focus was like an accordion smashed on both ends and had to be put on a tow truck flatbed as it was not drivable. The concern here is the airbags in the front did not deploy. The focus had 44,000 miles and was maintained by a ford dealership in northern virginia. Ford has not been responsive as my questions are met with requests for excessive documentation. My only concern is why did the airbags not deploy and is this unique to the focus we owned or is it a broader problem with ford focus design.

Hit in rear while stopped in traffic. Our vehicle was pushed into car in front of us. Front air bags did not go off - side air bags did.

2009 ford focus ([xxx])my son was just rear ended, the car was pushed 200+ feet and the air bag did not deploy! he was sent to the hospital with injuries.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was involved in a rollover in 2009. The car steering was loose and caused me to lose control on the road. I was switching lanes on the highway, the road was uneven and the steering seemed to stop working. Also the airbags did not deploy. It was a rental car.

The airbag light suddenly came on one day. I researched it on google and it appears to bevery commonin ford focus vehicles. My mechanic is unable to address the issue stating it must be done at a ford dealetship out and theproblemis in the brain /module of the car. For these reasons i thoughtthere would have been a recall. The safety issue is that in my research i learned although this is a common issue, if the light is on the air bag will not work if needed.

Takata recall i have called the ford dealers in both carson city and reno nevada.both dealers state that they do not have the parts to do the results.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the key failed to turn in the ignition. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switch, ignition cylinder and the housing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.updated 9/4/14the consumer stated the key would turn in the ignition but the engine would not crank. Airbag light was always on. Updated 12/16/2014

I exited the highway via an off ramp and hit the breaks to slow down.my back end spun out of control and i hit the guardrail with the front driver's side of my car.my car was deemed a total loss, my air bag did not deploy.

The contact owned a 2009 ford focus. While driving 30 mph, an oncoming vehicle crashed into the contact's vehicle head-on. The driver side air bag deployed. The contact sustained neck and chest injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle wasdestroyed. A police report was filed and the vehicle was towed to a collision depot. The failure mileage was 12,500.

I was involved in a front end crash this am involving 3 deer.the entire front end of my car is smashed.however the air bags did not activate.this is disturbing to me, and i will never buy a ford again. My car is a 2009 ford focus sel.

The airbag light suddenly came on one day and it does not go out. I researched it on google and it appears to be very common in ford focus vehicles.the safety issue is that in my research i learned although this is a common issue, if the light is on the air bag will not work if needed.

Front end collision at 45-50 mph.airbags did not deploy in crash

2009 ford focus. Consumer states problem with ticking noise *tgwthe consumer stated there were engine/exhaust noise emitting from the vehicle after it was turned off. According to the dealer, some ford vehicle may exhibit a ticking/pinging noise from the hot exhaust after the engine is turned off and the exhaust cools down, which is due to the exhaust system expanding and contracting during heating and cooling cycles. The ticking/pinging should be considered normal. The brake fluid light illuminated and it was determined the fluid was low.the tires were found to be out of round, the air bag light illuminated. The tpms light illuminated due to low pressure in one of the tires.it was determined that one of the tires had a leak.

My 2009 focus ses was seen by the dealer for the airbag light being constantly on in november 2011.they replaced the passenger side airbag module.this winter (2012) the airbag light has come on again.it apparently has something to do with hot/cold temps.

Was hit in front end doing 8,000.00 worth of damage.airbags never went off.took to bob thibodeau and questioned air bags as to why and they explained to me, black box would explain.left at bob thibodeau for repairs to body and two weeks later, i called to see what the hold up was, they explained to me my car caught fire while being welded on.bob thibodeau settled only for the cost of my loan, with no explanation about airbags.furthermore, numerous contacts were made with ford motor company and no response from them regarding these tactics.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the contact crashed into another vehicle. During the crash, the front passenger side air bag deployed but the front driver side did not. The contact sustained a fractured neck, back and rib. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unavailable.

I was involved in an accident in which i was rear ended by a vehicle traveling 45 mph which in turn caused me to slam into the vehicle in front of me.as a result of the accident, the drivers seat i was sitting on was bent and moved back.the air bag device under the seat was detached and damaged as a result of the accident.the accident was severe enough it should have deployed when i hit the car in front of me.when i questioned the dealership they stated it is normal for this to happen to the seat and for airbags not to deploy.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the turn signal was activated and failed to respond. In addition, the brake light became inoperative. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 98,101.

My car was stationary. The doors lock and do not unlock. After hours of searching the manual and google i figured out how to bypass the automatic lock and turned that off so my doors would not lock while i drove. That worked for a while but, then the doors just stopped opening from the outside. I have been told by several mechanics this is an issue with this year focus.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated the dashboard, radio, power window, and the button control lights would illuminate extremely bright and suddenly they became dim independently. The contact stated when the lights were bright they were blinding and could possibly cause a crash to occur. The defect was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000. The current mileage was 64,000.

What it is that been happening for years now is the ignition switch will not allow my key to turn over the car to start it. I have too jiggle it to finally get it to strart my concern is something going wrong and causing a major problem

The doors become locked and you cannot open them from the inside or outside. All unlocking devices to unlock the doors will not unlock them. Took to a mechanic and he got locked inside the car and could not get out. This is an extremely hazardous situation.

The ignition ,at times dose not start car. Battery stays charged.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that both rear passenger side doors would not open when the unlock button was depressed. The contact stated that she had to depress the unlock button several times before the doors would unlock. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. No further details were available on the repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 39,700.

Rear doors are jammed or stuck on lock, for no reason. Power locks will not unlock them and doing so manually does not work either. These doors cannot be opened from the inside nor the outside. My child locks are not on. I also keep my car dust free and lubricated. This could be a huge safety concern if i were to get into an accident and were to be locked in my car. My car should be able to be unlocked and locked whenever i please and whenever is needed. The fact that i cannot even unlock them manually is dangerous.

Air bag light is stuck on randomly makes a "dinging" sound. Tires continue to wear out at a rapid speed, ignition switch will get stuck an engine will not turn over-can't find a cause. The fuel pump keep disabling! when trying to crank the car it will continue to turn over after the key has been pulled back out of the start position

Driving on freeway at steady 70mph, engine dropped to idle speed.no prior indication of trouble.vehicle was slowing down. Wrench light was on.accelerator pedal had no effect.i put in the clutch pedal, and coasted until i reached an areaarea where i could pull off to the side. This was in a tight construction area.fortunately, i was in the right lane and not near other vehicles at the time of the incident.otherwise the outcome might have been very different.wheni was stopped, the engine continued to run, but accelerator had no effect.with no alternative, i shut off the engine.i then started the engine.operation appeared normal with no wrench light on.i got off the freeway and checked connected my code reader.no diagnostic codes. During some subsequent driving, there have been no further events or indication of problems.i am getting a ford oem throttle body to replace my existing.this is apparently a known ford problem that has avoided a recall despite the potential dangers associated with this type of failure.

The ignition switch is very difficult to turn or start the car.if i do not play with the steering will it will not start. I don't think that it should be this hard to start a car.

(complaint #2)difficulty in inserting and removing key from ignition. Repositioning steering wheel sometimes "locks" and "unlocks" ignition keyhole allowing for key insertion and key removal.complaint #1 submitted as a separate complaint and wanted to include 1st complaint with the 2nd one -turning vehicle key to start position glides rather than "clicks" to each position. Ignition key feels and sounds like ignition tumblers are stripped.delay between start and vehicle engine actually starting when key glides to start position. This delay is a sign that vehicle will not start due to faulty ignition part.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.

Putting key in ignition doesn't always start the car...i've had to tow my car home after trying for 30 minutes. Only to have it start when my husband tried. Its been an issue ever since he bought it. Currently hasn't been driven in 2 days because of this.

Gas pedal wants to stick.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the key failed to turn in the ignition. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. At approx. 50,000 miles the ignition switch was difficult to turn eventually unable to turn key over.had a new switch installed and now six months later it's starting to go out again.very poor quality switch.

Going 75 mph when car lost power. Pulled over and restarted seems to work fine until it happens again. Luckily it has only happened when i'm going to work early in the morning when there is less traffic.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and the power train warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the electronic throttle body sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty.the failure mileage was 59,000.updated 07/13/12 the consumer stated the vehicle was under warranty at the time, but ford stated that the power train throttle body sensor was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was repaired. Updated 07/30/12.....updated 01/14/13the consumer stated the vehicle was still covered under power train warranty. But, was told it would not be covered. Updated 1/15/2013 the consumer requested to have the component changed. However, the closest component, to throttle body sensor is vehicle speed control and electrical system. Updated 03/18/13

Third time having a problem with ignition switch! car will turn on but won't start, costing more to fix than the car is worth.

When i try to start my car, sometimes it won't turn over when turning the key. I have to try a few times if not multiple times in order for it to start and it just keeps getting worse over time.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence where a certified mechanic replaced the ignition cylinder. The failure recurred four weeks after the repair was performed. The dealer then replaced the ignition for the second time. Most recently, the engine failed to start due to the faulty ignition lock module. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,421.

I have a 2009 ford focus.when turning on the vehicle one morning a wrench light was on and pressing on the gas there was no acceleration.when taking it to mechanic i was told it was the p2111 and the throttle cap was stuck open.this is a known ford problem and the escape had them recalled already.the car only has 26,000 miles on it and was a 3 year warranty unfortunately not covered.

Insert key, turn to start, will not start, have to push in key hardfor the ignition to start car

The car had been running perfect then after a motor mount was replaced the car started then went dead immediately. The car will turn over but it isn't firing right now it gave no warning. The computer read a throttle actuator trouble code and that's all. The car will keep turning over after i release the key it has not done this before now we had some trouble with the ignition locking up and we have to turn it really hard to start get the key in the starting position. The ignition system is one of the problems and the throttle body will update when i find out more.

Wrench light came on when starting...and went off..gradually came on and stayed on until i turned off engine and restarted...bob ridings ford here in decatur said they could not check it unless the wrench light stayed on...which never happened...gradually the light would come on when car was being driven...and stalled down at a place i could not get off road to restart...luckily not in heavy traffic which could have caused an accident.next the wrench light went off and the engine light came on...before i could get it to the garage to be checked, all the lights went off...said palmer from palmer tire and auto checked it and got one code which he tried to get ford to help him with..before he could hear back (if ever he would have) i took it to bob ridings in taylorville (i had bad experience with one in decatur)and they called said to get his diagnosis..and discussed the fact that both had replaced throttle control on other focus cars which ford motor did not recommend doing!this cost me $569.10 which i believe would have been under warranty if it had been repaired in 2011; and this should have been a recall as it is a dangerous condition when driving in traffic., i think ford owes me...and probably others...and is a problem warranting a recall!i guessed at mileage and time but know this problem occurred the year after i bought the car and it only had 9000 miles on it when i purchased it...making it have around 15,000 when problem began.

Ignition switch worn parts, common complaint recall earlier models, problem persists in 2009 focus. Warrants recall and ford fix.

Rear door locks appear to be jammed or permanently locked. Will not unlock with power locks or manually. This happened randomly out of nowhere. My drivers side door handle also broke so i am only able to use one door on my vehicle right now. The rear doors will not open from inside or outside hence why i said they appear to be jammed for no reason. This is a huge safety concern if i were to be in an accident and get locked inside my car.

As reported by several others, my 2009 ford focus will unpredictably go into "limp? or failsafe mode, with power surges or hesitations and the wrench & check engine light. After then engine is re-started the car will run normally for various periods of time, sometimes miles, days or weeks.this first happened several times in november 2012, i brought the car into a ford dealer, but because the wrench or engine lights were not on, they were unable to read any codes or otherwise diagnose. In may 2013, i again experienced several instances of the limp / failsafe mode with one or both of the wrench and check engine lights on.on may 11, 2013 car was delivered to a different ford dealer with the wrench light on. This dealer ?cleaned? the throttle body even though as i now understand the throttle body is a sealed unit.just over 4 weeks after the maintenance i again experienced the limp mode and wrench lights.at this time i started to keep track of each instance.for approximately 1 month the car experienced frequent power surges/hesitation and instances of limp mode.the car then went 1 month without any repeat of that experience.after several more instances of the problem in early september 2013, the issue disappeared for over 6 months, until april 2014. I now have a log documenting approx 25 ? 30 instances of limp mode over a period of about 8 weeks.this happens when the car is both warm or cold, in any weather conditions, sometimes when the car is running for only 1 minute or after a long drive. Unfortunately i have had to shift into neutral and re-start at highway speeds. Again as others have commented, this is a dangerous situation and should be corrected by a recall.i have an appointment in the next few days at which time they will likely replace the throttle body for approx $600, after sticking about $300 to the 1st 2 service calls....thank you

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The contact mentioned that while having the repairs performed, the technician notified him that the ignition housing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.updated 02/19/16*lj; updated 05/02/18

Okay the vehicle is 2009 but only has 58,000 miles. Sometimes i have difficulty inserting the key into the ignition and trying to start car. I sometimes have to try and jiggle the steering wheel. Yesterday i turned the vehicle off , took the keys out of the ignition, opened the door to exit the car and the alarmor warning wouldn't shut off. I got back in the car, shut the door, it still wouldn't shut off, so i put the key back in the ignition to turn it on then off again, and that worked but i still have occasional issues with starting the car.

My ignition is not working. I turn the key over and over and over and the car won't start. The lights come on, the battery is charged, the air works, but the vehicle won't start. I used to be able to get it started but i now have blisters on my hand from trying to start this car.

Sometimes the car doesn't crank or start and it has happened around 6 times since we bought the car in 2011. It isn't the battery because i have just replaced it but seems like the ignition switch or cylinder is the problem. Any help would be appreciated

Exactly as described in other entries on this site, and similar to the problems described in thenytimes today about gm cars (although mine is a ford- probably the same faulty component is in both gm and ford). Numerous times and at various speeds, including on the highway, the car will inexplicably "stall out"- the engine completely shuts off and no longer accelerates. First time was with my wife driving with our babies on the highway. She was terrified, and did a heroic job of getting over to the shoulder. She turned the key off and then was able to restart the car. A few weeks later it happened to me on a country road- without any warning, the car completely shut off while going about 40 mph. I took it to a mechanic. They drove it over a hundred miles and couldn't find anything wrong with it. In another week or so, it did it twice in one day, both city driving in heavy traffic. I'd put on the hazard lights, come to a stop and restart the car. Took it back to the mechanic. They drove it another 75 miles with the same lack of diagnosis. The next time it happened i was on an empty stretch of open road going about 40, and i was able to just shift into neutral while coasting and turn the key off and back on to restart the car while never actually stopping it. Realizing that this was actually better than stopping traffic and potentially causing an accident, this is how i have restarted the car and resumed acceleration in the several times it has done it since. But i am a very skilled driver- shifting into neutral and restarting the engine while coasting in traffic is definitely not a solution for the average person having this problem, and i am not advising anyone to do it. I've put a ton of miles on this car quickly, so other people with 2009 focuses may not have had this problem. But more will likely begin to experience it as their cars get older. Please recall.

Ignition not working properly.key has to be turned several times to start car when parked.

I was driving my ford focus on the highway, running approx. 55 mph. All at once a wrench light came on in my car, and my car decelerated to approx. 10 mph. I pulled it off of the road shut the car off and restarted it, and the car ran fine the rest of the way home. Since then it has happened multiple times, without warning. I took the car to my ford dealer shortly after the first occurrence, and was told that since the wrench light wasn't on they couldn't tell me what the problem was. Yesterday, the car did it again, but this time the engine light came on and stayed on. I took it to advance to have the code read, and was told it coded out a (tac) throttle actuator control failure.i have several friends that also drive focus' and they all tell me that theirs is doing the same thing. I was wondering if you could get ford to recall this problem. I have also researched on the internet and found that they are also having this issue with the mustang, f-150, and f-250 to name a few. Thanks for your help.

The contact's son owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact son stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle loss motive power without warning. The vehicle was jump started and resumed normal vehicle operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. An unknown dealer was contacted however, no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,827.

All 4 door latches and locks do not work correctly.very dangerous!!! i can't get out or get in through any doors at times. It's different every day. They won't open with fob or manually. I see there are thousands of people with the same problem. Recall and get this fixed before someone gets killed because they can't get out!!!!!!

(complaint #1) turning vehicle key to start position glides rather than "clicks" to each position. Ignition key feels and sounds like ignition tumblers are stripped.delay between start and vehicle engine actually starting when key glides to start position. This delay is a sign that vehicle will not start due to faulty ignition part.complaint #2 is being submitted as a separate complaint and wanted to include 2nd complaint with the 1st one - difficulty in inserting and removing key from ignition. Repositioning steering wheel sometimes "locks" and "unlocks" ignition keyhole allowing for key insertion and key removal.

On hot days, the ford focus intermittently will not start after shutting off the engine. It takes 30-45 minutes before the car stops again.the engine does not turn over, it acts as though the starter motor is going out. Ford is unable to reproduce this while in the shop, so they are unable to fix it.investigating, i see that there are a lot of people experiencing the same issue on the internet for 2000-2012 focuses.this problem did not start until the car was 4-5 years old. There are many videos on youtube showing this symptom, i have posted several.i fear that if i am at an intersection and the engine stops that i will be unable to restart the car. Or, in the case of an emergency, the car will not start.

I purchased the above vehicle in 2009 new. I have driven it 43000 miles so far and 2 to 3 months ago i started having problems with the horn.the horn is mounted to the frame right front towards the bottom.rain or water had managed to get into the horn due to it's location. Instead of a loud sound you can barely hear it since when i pulled it off, it was full of water.this is a safety item since it is used to warn others.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start-up after multiple attempts without warning. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the ignition switch and housing were replaced. A few months later, the failure recurred, and the contact took the vehicle back to the same mechanic and had the starter replaced. A few months later after the repair, the failure recurred, and the contact took the vehicle to another independent mechanic who replaced the ignition switch and housing for a second time. After the failure occurred for the fourth time, the initial independent mechanic instructed her to place the vehicle in neutral to see if the restarted. The vehicle was started in neutral and the mechanic replaced the neutral safety switch. Despite the repair, the failure recurred. A dealer was notified of the failure and a representative acknowledged that the failure was a known issue; however, there were no recall for the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was provided the same information as the dealer. The manufacturer was then referred to the nhtsa for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

Freeway driving at 70 mph the indicator light for the throttle body/transmission lightup and the car went into limp home mode.very dangerous at these speeds.same problem as the ford escape that were under the warranty extention

This happened on two separate occasions.the first occasion, my wife was driving the focus at around 50 mph, when all of the sudden the car stopped accellerating (it didn't stall) and the wrench panel light came on.luckily she wasn't in an accident, so she pulled over and restarted the car and it ran fine, and the light was off.three weeks later we were driving on the highway at 75 mph when the exact same thing happened, the car just stopped accelerating, the wrench light came on, and again we were lucky we weren't in an accident and were able to pull off the road.we restarted the car and it was fine again. At this point i called ford and they agreed to take a look at it and provide me a rental car.after a week, they said they thought it was a throttle body, but were unable to diagnose it because they needed to have it happen to them.i told them it was unreasonable because it happened three weeks apart, and the chances of it happening were slim within a week. I was trying to urge ford to cover this since the car only had 54k miles on it, and it was dangerous to drive.they said since they couldn't diagnose it, they couldn't fix it, and even if they could diagnose it, it wouldn't be covered since its not under the powertrain warranty.i feel like this is a safety issue that they are very aware of, and the fact that they are 99.9% sure its a throttle body (the dealership employees told me they're getting tons of throttle body repairs coming in and the parts are on back order), they should be responsible to fix them for the safety of the consumer.there was no maintenance we could have done to prevent these dangerous situations from happening.now i have to find a way to pay for this repair on my own so my wife can drive a safe vehicle.so ford's defective part has already put my wife and i in danger, and now is costing me money i don't have!

Last year during the summer i would be driving and the engine and wrench lights would come on and i would lose power.pressing the accelerator did nothing, no response.this has continued to happen occasionally but in the last couple of weeks it has been a daily thing and it happens numerous times each day.i live in virginia and it has not happened in the winter or early spring when the temps are cooler.i drive about 60 miles round trip and the majority of it is on the highway.this is a dangerous situation.i get to the side of the road and turn the car off, let it set for a minute or less and then start it again and it runs.i don't have to let it stay off for any amount of time, i can start it shortly after shutting it off with no problem.the tach jumps up between 2000-3000 rpms and then settles down.i don't have my foot on the gas when this happens. Sometimes it won't happen again for the rest of the trip but sometimes i drive only a couple miles before the situation repeats.when i'm parked with the car running i can watch the tach falter and drop below 1000 rpms but it catches itself and returns to normal.this is getting old and is nerve wracking while driving on the highway waiting for it to happen.

On cold start rpm's fluctuate several hundred rpm's. Brought to dealership but no codes were present. Tech suspected dirty throttle body. Part not under warranty because no codes when scanned. Problem continues especially on cold start but occasionally while in drive at a stop.

While driving at speed, driver loses all control of gas pedal and has to put car in neutral and shut ignition off in order to restart car to reset control of gas pedal. This situation has happened several times over the last 5 months. On oct 2 it happened 5 times on the same drive that day. This is a very serious problem that could cause injury or death. It is lucky that we have been aware of this and it hasn't cause us an accident. But now we must get it repaired because fate will catch up to you at the wrong time. I have researched this on the internet and found other people have had similar experience with this. After research some people have been told it is the throttle body which has a non replaceable sensor on it that controls a signal to the gas pedal. To repair it the throttle body has to be replaced. Please please investigate this. I have called ford dealership about this and they show no concern or interest in finding out if this is a national problem they may kill someone. Please investigate before someone dies that is not aware of this.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning.the failure mostly occurred when accelerating. The contact stated that the vehicle would also suddenly decelerate while the accelerator pedal was being depressed with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The failure mileage was 49,000 and the current mileage was 50,700.

I purchased my vehicle in 2010, at the time the vehicle had 37,000 miles. A less than a month later the transmission failed. It would not move in any gear, when i placed my foot on the gas it would not move but then it jolted with great force. It also grinds really hard when you're shifting gears. I called the dealer and they agreed to fix the vehicle. I was told that a new transmission was put in the car. About a year later the same problem with the transmission happened. The car was stopped and would not move in any gear. I took it to ford again and they said a bolt was loose and they fixed it. A few days later the same problem i took it back to ford and they found that there were metal shavings in the transmission. Yesterday my wrench light came on and my transmission is doing the same thing it did the first two times. Since purchasing the vehicle a little over 5 years ago ihave put less 35,000 miles on this car. It should not be having transmission issues. The transmission is the only problem i've had and continue to have with this vehicle.i i am very concerned about this issue and do not feel safe driving my vehicle. I do not understand why this issue keeps happening.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the wrench warning lamp was illuminated. Also, the contact mentioned that on a different occasion, she attempted to turn off the vehicle; the key was removed but the vehicle continued running. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 69,500.

Car went into limp home mode (wrench light) while pulling into traffic, sudden loss of power almost led to accident. My two year old was in the vehicle, with her side exposed to oncoming traffic when the car lost connection between the accelerator and throttle. Returned home immediately. Went out to start it later, no warning lights, ran fine. 2 days later, it went into limp home mode on the freeway, this time cel came on. Code p2135, indicating a problem with the throttle body. Part replaced, problem hasn't recurred. Research online indicates this is a known problem (there is a tsb). I would regard it as a safety issue based on the failure rates of widespread (albeit anecdotal) evidence. Though it isn't uncontrolled acceleration, it still is a loss of control; this system is drive-by-wire, the same as toyota. I would think it should be given consideration for recall. Below are experienced shared on various forums regarding the vehicles affected (2008-2011 focus):www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=271461www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=317251&highlight=throttle+bodywww.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298322&highlight=throttle+bodywww.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291391&highlight=throttle+bodywww.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290333&highlight=throttle+bodywww.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=257103&highlight=p2112www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=262099&highlight=p2112www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174484&highlight=wrench+lightwww.carproblemzoo.com/ford/focus/2009/cruise-control-problems.phpwww.carproblemzoo.com/ford/focus/2008/vehicle-speed-control-problems.phphttp://bit.ly/18ccw56http://bit.ly/16toxcchttp://bit.ly/19aqtpnhttp://bit.ly/18cch08http://bit.ly/11ik0mu...and countless more on www.fordfocusforums.com.

Driving on highway in rush hour traffic at 65 miles an hour when suddenly losing throttle control down to 35 miles an hour the gas pedal would not respond. Yellow wrench light and wavy car warning lights appeared. Coasted to side of the road and sat for 10 minutes. Started car and tested pedal. Eased back on freeway. Scared to drive this car.

The car was on the interstate traveling at 55 mph ; the engine stalled and restarted, when existing to see whether it would gain speed, the car slipped out of gear . It went into reverse, backing up. After trying to correct it . The car sped up almost causing a major accident, the car restarted with the shift out ofdrive, i drove the carthree blocks to my home.i left the car wherever it stopped, the next day, i tried to drive it; the car placed in drive went in reverse backing up.i left it there and had wrecker company to take it to a transmission shop on union avenue.they inspected the car and said it would take $2,0000 to get the transmission repaired. Since, the car was under engine warranty from acura dealers of memphis, i had the wrecking company to take the car back to the dealership.they sold me a 2013 toyota corolla which is experiencing the same problem.now, i have another car from the sane dealership which apparently sells used cars with transmission problems.

I was driving on the freeway at approximately 65mph, when the car lost power. Stepping on the gas pedal had no response. I put the car in neutral and coasted out of traffic and onto the shoulder. When i stopped on the side of the road, the car was shaking violently as if it was getting ready to stall. I tried repeatedly to step on the gas but there was no response. I turned the car off for approximately 30 seconds and tried to restart it. It started right up and the throttle was acting normally. Since that first incident, over a year ago, this has happened six more times with the last one being on 11/14/11. I was traveling at 70 mph on interstate 15 going north up the hill from baker, ca when this happened. Trying to dodge the other motorists and the big rigs to even get to the shoulder was very scary. I have researched this problem and apparently it is not unique to my vehicle. Someone is going to get seriously injured if this issue is not resolved. As other complaints have stated there is no code left on the computer after i restart the car so my mechanic wants to drive my vehicle until it happens, but it only happens every couple of months. I can't be without my car for that length of time so i am very frustrated.

Ever since we turned over sixty thousand miles on our ford focus se 2009 we have started to experience a problem where our car's check engine light will go on and the gas pedal will stop working. When this happens, the only thing you can do is: pull over, shift into park, turn the car off and start the car again. At this point the cel will go off and it will be like nothing happened. This is terrifying and extremely dangerous!the first time that the car stalled or went into limp mode was when the weather was damp, so we thought it was weather related. We decided to have the dealer look at the car. We brought the car into the dealership. We dropped the car off so that the mechanic could do a test drive. After an entire day of driving, they could not reproduce the problem, or pull a diagnostic code so they gave our keys back and said we cant do anything to help you. They then suggested that the next time our car stalls, idle the car to the dealership, but do not turn it off. Really!?the next time it happened we were taking a500 mile road trip and experienced the car shutting down after about 250 miles. This happened twice, once in traveling to our destination and once coming home. The car shut down one time on the expressway going 70 mph, having to make a double lane change and pull over to avoid getting hit. The other while exiting the expressway slowing down to a stop and pulling onto a crossing road.

Driving over level pavement in my 2009 ford focus approaching a stop light. When i removed my foot from the accelerator, the vehicle continued at the current speed (45mph). I braked, but it wasn't enough to stop the car. I drove through the intersection which was empty, and put the car in neutral. The engine then slowed to normal idle speed. I then drove home and checked the operation, and could find nothing wrong.

Ford focus 2009april 25, 2014 i hadappointment for a routine oil change and tune up. Was told there was oil in my spark plug wells and i needed a valve cover gasket replaced.total bill $376.65 then 5 days later on april 30th, when i started my car it would not run correctly and was chugging and sputtering really bad. The throttle control/ transmission light came on and also the check engine light.i checked the miles i had driven and it was exactly 25 miles since the oil/tuneup/gasket change. I called the ford service department and told them what was going on and they said to drive it over. It would hardly run so i had to have it towed. Then they called to tell me the throttle body was bad at an estimated $800 to fix it. They had to order the part and it would be a few days.may 5, 2014, dealership called to inform me the housing for the throttle body is also bad and it will be an additional $54 to replace that with the throttle body.

Engine replaced in new 2009 ford focus with only 4,836 miles.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, by passers in other vehicles alerted that both tail lights failed to illuminate. In addition, the parking light was inoperable. The contact replaced the fuses eight times within the past five years. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Vehicle died in the middle of the road, while daughter was driving. Would not start. This has happened several times now. Took it to ford and they say problem is with the throttle control.

The car lost power on the highway at 65 mph. I pressed the accelerator and nothing happened. I had to coast to the side of the highway. The engine and the wrench light came on. The engine was idling but would not accelerate at all when i pressed the gas pedal. I turned the car off and let it rest for a minute. I turned it back on and was able to accelerate the car fine. This happened six times (losing power) on my way home. I was traveling to an event and had driven 200 miles when i had to turn around. This was a driving hazard - especially on a highway! ford should recall these cars.

I was traveling at 60 mph when the car started slowing down even though i was depressing the accelerator. I thought the engine had died and i was coasting until i realized that it was still running but at an idle speed. I "coasted" for 10 miles afraid to turn it off and be stranded. I got it home and turned it off and restarted it and it acted as if nothing was wrong and had good acceleration. It did it again yesterday (07/18/2014) while traveling at 75 mph on the freeway. Scared me to death as i was surrounded by semi-trailers and had to move to the shoulder where there was large tire parts and ran over them. I stopped the car and restarted it with no issues with acceleration. I noticed after the "coasting" incident that my fuel mileage increased to 46 mpg. On the average. It was around 35 before.

We own a 2009 ford focus.right out of warranty in june of 2012 my husband was driving the car on the highway, approx. 70 miles per hour when the car decelerated down to about 40 and would not go beyond that.we took it to the dealership, they charged us full price for a throttle body replacement.i know that other makes in 2009 were extended on the warranty for throttle body problems.i wanted to report this so that we can get reimbursed.

At 75 mph on the highway the vehicle all of the sudden sputtered and lost acceleration. The wrench lamp illuminated and then the check engine light came on. After pulling to the side of the 4 lane highway and nearly getting sideswiped, shutting down the vehicle and restarting reset the acceleration. This happened two more times in a 20 minute span. The check engine failure code acquired from advance auto was p2112 throttle body stuck open. Ford is well aware of the p2112 and p2111 failure codes and that they are an electronic defect with the electronic throttle body. This part has been recalled on 4 other models of fmc vehicles. Ford has refused to replace the part.

Freeway driving at 70 mph the indicator light for the throttle body/transmission lightup and the car went into limp home mode.very dangerous at these speeds.same problem as the ford escape that were under the warranty extention

Driving 65mph - middle lane of the freeway - the wrench light comes on and suddenly the max speed i could generate was 20 mph- made it to the pull over lane- had to change my underwear when i got home. The car sat - engine off for about 30 min ( waiting for road service who never showed) the car restarted and you would never know there was a problem it drove fine for several days. I would have written it off as bad gas except for info on the net that made me realize i may have a serious problem. You didn't ask and it may not be your area ofbut my extended warranty said it covered all electronic parts and fuel system, but gee whiz "we're sorry it covers all except the throttle body" that will be $900 please. They also managed to lose my call for roadside assistance.. Someone should investigate the easy care co. If possible i would like to know if there were service bulletins issued to ford dealers about this. Specifically i would like to know if this should have been repaired before i bought the car. The purchase was made feb 2010. Thanks

Gas pedal wants to stick.

Traveling on highway in passing lane with cruise control on,noticed vehicle slowing down. Applied pressure to gas pedal,no acceleration. I had to get off road quickly because car was coming to a stop;almost caused an accident in doing so. Vehicle idled rough and i had no control of acceleration. I shut off vehicle and was able to start it up again and had acceleration control again. Took vehicle to ford dealer ship and they replaced throttle body. Service tech stated that they have been replacing several of these throttle bodies on ford vehicles lately and they except a recall.my concern is that this could have easily caused an accident. Ford knows this issue exist, get it recalled before someone gets hurt or killed.

Fuel tank rusted where the halves meet and leaks fuel.cannot fill over half way.started as a gas smell last year, discovered a drip this year.tank needs to be replaced.

At any random moment, the car's wrench light comes on and the car either dies or begins to run horribly. This can happen in town or on the highway - accelerating or on cruise control - it doesn't matter.turning the car off (if it didn't die) and turning it back on, the wrench light goes off and the car runs again.code indicates a throttle body issue but after taking it to a mechanic twice, they have not been able to get a code or figure out the issue. This has been going on for over a year.this can really be a dangerous issue if it happens while passing or turning into an intersection. Etc.

While driving down the interstate at 70 miles per hour, the car dropped out of cruise control and coasted to 5 miles per hour. Pressing the gas pedal had no result. We were lucky to avoid collision with nearby cars and coasted off the interstate into a park and ride lot. Car had to be towed to dealer repair. We were told by ford dealer that the throttle body had died and had to be replaced. This ford certified preowned car is still covered by powertrain warranty but this does not include throttle body. Numerous actions with ford regarding faulty throttle bodies is widely reported and we believe this issue should be addressed in a formal recall for 2009 ford focus. Repair is $875 which we believe ford should be covering.

The fuel pump keep disabling! when trying to crank the car it will continue to turn over after the key has been pulled back out of the start position

On cold start rpm's fluctuate several hundred rpm's. Brought to dealership but no codes were present. Tech suspected dirty throttle body. Part not under warranty because no codes when scanned. Problem continues especially on cold start but occasionally while in drive at a stop.

Door latches and door locks do not work all the time. Have had them fixed numerous times but they still constantly act up and won't work.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the passenger side door was unable to be unlocked when using the key fob or when attempting to manually unlock the door. The failure recurred intermittently and affected each door in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised that the door lock actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 55,000.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the rear doors failed to lock and unlock and were inoperable. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that a module needed to be reset. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

The door lock actuators on the vehicle failed to unlock the door.this is dangerous in that driver and passenger are unable to engage or disengage the lock in a timely manner, resulting in delays with ingress/egress of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the rear driver's door would not lock and the rear passenger door would not unlock. Ed mullinax ford (8000 leavitt rd, amherst, oh 440011, 440-296-3021) stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. An independent mechanic was contacted and quoted a repair cost that was less than the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 101,000.

2009 ford focus 4 door, the driver side door will not open from outside. The door locks do not work all the time and you will get locked in and have to crawl over the seats to get out. The problem is that there is only one key hole on the driver side but it does not unlock the other doors so you cannot get in since the door only opens from the inside if it is unlocked. You cannot manually unlock the front doors but you can crawl over the seats and pull up the rear door locks or climb out the windows. Ford has not issued a recall on this and i see several people with the same problem. This is very dangerous especially if there is an accident and you cannot get the doors open. I guess it will take a death before ford will do something about it. My son has to keep the doors unlocked so he can get into a passenger door and open the inside latch to get into his car. I got locked in and had to crawl over the front seats to get out since i thought he was joking. We have the door panel off and door lock assembly out so now i am on the hunt for repair parts. The handle seems to be in working order but the latch is not. We lubed it but it keeps locking up and you cannot open it up to see what's wrong with it. I think ford wants people to spend a fortune to fix the problem or just buy a new car that you can't afford.

Door locks randomly malfunction. The key to the driver door will not turn. Front doors can only be unlocked by the inside door handle. The rear doors cannot be manually unlocked. Rear doors are unlocked by pressing down on the lock peg and using the inside lock switch on the front door to first lock and then unlock, let off the lock peg and toggle the switch again. Discovered this trick after many wasted trips to the dealership. One rear door latch was replaced but, the problem continues with it. After the warranty ran out (36k), i filed a complaint with the dealership. I was then told that this is a known defect but, it is not a recall item and it would cost about $200/door to fix. This is can be a serious matter if an accident were to occur.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus.the contact noticed that both passenger side doors, the rear driver side door, and the exterior door handles malfunctioned.the door handles could not be used to open the doors. The rear driver and passenger side doors would not unlock properly nor would they unlock when using the key fob or attempting to manually unlock the doors.the failure occurred multiple times.the dealer stated that the rod that was securing the locks needed to be replaced.the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred multiple times.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 46,000.

My granddaughter owns a 2009 ford focus. The door locks and latches do not work. It was taken in twice to be fixed. The dealer said it is from dust and they would have to pay $900 to upgrade the locks and latches.this concerns me greatly because i am very worried that if there was an accident my grand daughter would not be able to get out of the car.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the front passenger side door could not be unlocked using the remote. The door could only be opened from the inside of the vehicle. The rear passenger side would not open from the outside or inside. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 53,000.

2009 ford focus se. Bought new july 2009. Multiple problems with power door locks not unlocking from inside/outside w/key,remote,handles. Warranty work, 3 times in past one (1) year on door locks. Latest 7/15/11. Safety concerns of being trapped in vehicle. Constantly being told by ford techs. Road dustcausing malfunction. Have owned and driven many other makes/models of ford cars/trucks w/ power locks on gravel roads without problems. Only this car has this problem. 1st. Front passenger door had lock assembly replaced.wouldn't unlock inside or outside.2nd. Left back wouldn't unlock inside or outside. Door lock adjusted by ford tech. So far both working ok. 3rd. Trapped outside car. Finally unlocked w/ remote after many attempts. Key in outer lock wouldn't unlock door. Now it's the driver door that has to have the lock assembly replaced and is scheduled to have this done.also have complaint of original new tires (hankook p195/60/r15) wearing out and had to replace at 21,000 miles on 7/09/11. Ps. Tire pressure sensor is a useless device.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the doors could not be unlocked from the interior or exterior. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the door regulators were replaced. The failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 48,000.updated 09/27/11updated 09/30/11

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. While parked, the contact attempted to unlock the doors with the key fob and manually using the key, but the doors would not unlock. The contact was able to open the passenger side door after several attempts. The failure recurred intermittently and usually when the weather was warm. The contact had also become locked inside the vehicle on several occasions as a result of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician replaced the lock on the rear passenger side door however, the failure continued after the repair. There were no further repairs performed. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the passenger side door was unable to be unlocked when using the key fob or when attempting to manually unlock the door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure but advised the contact that they would spray water and apply dried lube as a temporary remedy. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 13,200 and the current mileage was 15,500.

Power door locks do not unlock and stay locked not able to get them to work correctly. I believe this to be a safety issue due to the fact that if you needed to get out of this vehicle in an emergency you would not be able to.

There have been numerous incidents where i can not get my doors open because the doors will not unlock. I have had to crawl out of another doors a number of times. I am worried that if there is an accident i may not be able to get out.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the front passenger door was not remaining shut properly. The contact had to use bungee cords to hold the door closed at all times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,292.

I had just got in my car to go grocery and i started up my engine and shifted into drive. However, i was going up to 5000 rpms just to go 30mph and it didn't feel right when i was driving, so i pulled over and stopped the car. When i did this, i noticed that the car was only functional in drive. I wouldn't allow me to reverse and the wheels were locked in neutral. So, i called for my parents for help. We knew there was something wrong with the transmission, so we used a code reader to see if the car was giving an error message but it didn't have one and put in new transmission fluid. After looking online, we noticed that the ford focuses from 2010-2015 were also have transmission issues. So we had it towed to a ford dealer and service center location.we told them the issues we were have and paid for diagnostics but they do anything different from what we had done. I was told my year was not one of the recalled ones, so i would have to pay about 5,00 to replace it. However, i told them that it had less than 50,000 miles and a transmission should at least be able to last until 50,000 but they said they couldn't help me and i would have to pay full price.

I had $2765 worth of transmission repair on a 2009 ford focus transmission with 81,000 miles on it. The car was properly serviced. I purchased a piece of junk.

The throttle control light has begun going off ( twice now) but once turned off and turned back on it does not come on. When it comes on it looses power and there are issues with acceleration. It has only done it after a long drive and going (moving) at a normal pace of about 45 to 55 miles and hour. It has not gone off at a time that allows it to be diagnosed by a professional and they have not been able to get it to register when hooked to the computer,. The light is no longer on and does not not illuminate in around town driving.

After driving only a couple miles from my place of departure, speed 45 mph, my car suddenly began to decelerate (and the check engine light, the "wrench" light, came on. When i pressed the accelerator nothing happened, my car continued to decelerate. I pulled over to the far right lane (no shoulder), braked and the car jerked to a stop; i put my hazard lights on. I tried putting the car in neutral and then back in drive, but the car still would not accelerate. I turned the car off. When i restarted, the wrench light was no longer on and the car ran normally. This happened again on the same road, at about the same place (a couple miles from work) a month later on january 18, 2012. Then it happened a 3rd time february 13, 2012 about 3 miles from home. Each time it happened the same way--after driving only a few miles (5-10 minutes running time) there is sudden, uncontrollable deceleration (when i am trying to accelerate between 40-50 mph), wrench light comes on, no response to pushing the gas pedal, i pull out of traffic just in time while continuing to decelerate (had about 30 seconds to make this happen), brake to complete the stop, the car shudders to a halt, i shut the car off, restart and the car acts perfectly normal again.

On cold start rpm's fluctuate several hundred rpm's. Brought to dealership but no codes were present. Tech suspected dirty throttle body. Part not under warranty because no codes when scanned. Problem continues especially on cold start but occasionally while in drive at a stop.

My car lost power as i was driving down the street.i was pressing the accelerator, but the car was not receiving any power.i was told my throttle body was defective.i have seen where other ford models manufactured during this time have had the same problem, and a warranty extension has been granted.why not on this vehicle as well?

Etc.

On a saturday, may 5, 12 i was driving home after driving about 30 miles.we came on our st. Picture of a wrench came on. Car started to putt putt and finally made it into driveway. Turned off engine. Looked up in manual and said throttle control transmission. Call dealer immed. The only dealer opened w/in miles and aaa bought it there. Dealer checked computer stuff, unable to duplicate problem.no codes in modules. Person said suspect customer hit tcs button by accident. Employee told customer everything looked fine and i could take car home.i paid for 1/2 hr of work when there was supposedly an hr. Of checking done. However since nothing found i was only charged 1/2 hr. Picked car drove approximately 20+ miles home and it was fine.sunday- drove approximately 40 miles without incident. Wrench came on and i pulled into parking lot. I turned engine off waited and turned engine on. I drove home without incident.if i was on a highway it would have caused an accident.i have a witness who was in the car with me both times.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently shift into neutral at various speeds. The contact had to wait until he could shift into the correct gear in order to continue driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

Was driving on cruise control on the interstate and moved to pass a semi-truck.i noticed that when pressing the accelerator, nothing would happen, no response.i then lost cruise control and the orange wrench light turned on.i was able to (thankfully and by the grace of god) pull back inbetween two semi-trucks and pull over to the shoulder.i turned the car off then back on again.i was able to drive to work the rest of the way at 75 mph.i was also able to return home 50 miles safely.later that night i was driving across the neighborhood and the same problem happened again at 20 mph after just a block of driving.i took the car to the dealership and after 2 days they are 'unable to replicate the problem' and with no computer code or "proof" that the light turned on there is nothing they can do.with the high traffic volume on the interstate and the large number of semi's i hope i survive the next time this is bound to happen to me on my commute to work.

As i was traveling down the highway the throttle suddenly and unexpectedly stopped working.(thankfully i was not in heavy traffic at the time.) i coasted the car over to the side of the highway. The car remained idling, however i still had no throttle control. The wrench light was on. I turned the car off, waited a few minutes and restarted the car. The wrench light was off and i once again had throttle control. I eased the car back onto the highway but noticed the car had difficulty holding a constant and steady speed. There were intermittent subtle surges and pauses in the speed. Once i reached my destination i had a ford dealership run a diagnostics on the car and they could not find any codes or problems with the car.i thoroughly researched this issue and found others were having similar problems and it was related to the throttle sensor. I had contacted a number of national parts suppliers and they could not sell me just the sensor but would have to sell me the entire throttle body. I contacted the ford dealer and they had a throttle position sensor. Since replacing the throttle sensor i have put over 1200 miles on the vehicle and have had to this point no more problems with throttle control.

Automatic transmission was slipping out of gear.car would be running at about 40 mph and the rpm would increase and whir.car would lose speed and slow down then speed up again.car was only three years old with 45+ miles on it and transmission was replaced at no cost to owner. (under warranty) now in december 2014, the replaced transmission with 35+ miles and two years, failing again.gears slipping and car unable to drive safely.car parked in owner's driveway.dealer contacted and will not cover replacement of new transmission. Why should a five year old car be in need of it's third transmission?

I was driving approximately 60 mph on the highway (in the far left lane) with cruise control on when my car suddenly appeared to die and the wrench light came on.the car began to decelerate and would not accelerate regardless of how hard i pressed down on the gas pedal. I then had to dodge traffic as i attempted to pull off to the right side of the road (across two lanes during traffic) while my car continued to decelerate. This, at first, happened rarely, but now occurs 2-3 times every time i drive as much as 15 miles. I have read countless forums about others with the same car having the exact same problems, and yet ford is doing absolutely nothing about it. This can be an extremely terrifying and potentially dangerous in the right circumstances. Far too many people are having throttle body/actuator problems for this not to be a design flaw on ford's part, and, from what i've heard, they're refusing to honor others' warranties. I just so happen to be just outside my warranty; what a "coincidence." i'm now looking at a $600 out of pocket repair i simply can't afford at this time. So instead i'm forced to continually look forward to having my car suddenly die in the middle of highway traffic.

Driving at 45 mph suddenly lost acceleration, wrench light illuminated. The car continued to run but extremely scary. Then you regained acceleration and continued only to lose it repeatedly. Took car to have diagnostics run, but the light went off and they could not diagnose a problem.

This is the second time the car lost power and the wrench light came on. The first time the dealer replace a part on the motor. I do not think that ford has any idea why this happens. My wife drives mostly on 4 lane roads,at high speeds, and sense this is not a one time problem, then ford should take these cars off the road before some one gets kill,or is that what it takes for the something to be done, and done right and not i think it might be this part or that. I did not see any where ford has fixed this problem, so they should remove said cars from the highway. The two times this happen to my wife it was light traffic and she could pull off the road, we purchase this car because of the long drive and the fuel mileage. If this happens in traffic will you know what the out come can be, at the speed they drive . Heaven help us if something is not done!

I drive a 2009 ford focus.while driving down the highway i will have the wrench light come on.i take it to the dealer and they find nothing wrong.when the light comes on the car loses power.i turn the car off, wait about a minute and turn the car back on.at that time the fault clears and the car drives like normal.this typically happens when i've driven for about 25 to 40 miles.this has happened several times per day, and with the car being out of warranty due to miles, but under and extended warranty i'm having to pay to find nothing wrong.i know that something is wrong with the car though.it looks like others may have had the same problem as well.

Check engine and wrench light flashed while driving 70 mph in interstate and suddenly lost some power.this issue came up without any other symptoms. My mechanic unable to find the issue and resolve the code error. Later on i find out all the ford focus having the similar problem and ford did not recall for this issue.

As i was driving on the freeway at 70 mph in the middle lane, the vehicle lost acceleration power and the "wrench" light came on. While the car was slowing, i had to make several lane changes across heavy, fast moving traffic before i was able to stop along the shoulder. Upon restarting the car, the light was no longer on and the car resumed normal acceleration. The vehicle is currently being assessed at the dealership, as this issue could result in a major collision if it were to recur, potentially causing the car to stall in high-speed traffic without the ability to get to the shoulder.

While starting to drive out of the driveway and down the neighborhood street, the vehicle began to stall, the "wrench" light came on the instrument panel, and the vehicle had to be immediately returned home. Restarting the vehicle later in the day, the issue was gone. The issue happened again in the driveway after starting the vehicle. A call was made to the nearest dealership to schedule a repair. The issue happened again, while attempting to drive the vehicle to the dealer for repair. Three separate times the vehicle had to be shifted in neutral to restart the car during a three mile drive.

On october 1 2012 i was driving down my street at aprox 45 mph when the car suddenly lost power and would not accelerate. Luckily i was close to home and about to coast down hill to my driveway. When i pulled into my driveway the car was still running but not quietly, it sputter and was quite loud. I let it sit for a day and started it back up all light are off, however while driving (i live 50 miles, one way all highway driving at high speeds) to my place of employmentthis morning october 03 2012 i noticed at if i were driving at anything less then 60 where my foot wasn't on the gas i could feel what seem like the tran slip.. I hope my children are not in the car with me should this happen again. And im praying it doesn't!

The transmission started to hesitate shifting then wouldnt go past third shift and thencompletely stopped working while driving on the road.

Car randomly goes into "limp mode" while driving, usually at highway speeds. Wrench light goes on indicating a throttle body issue. This has occurred about 10 times now over the past few months. After turning car off, then on again, there is no longer a light and car runs fine. Twice i've taken the car in after such an occurrence and neither the dealership or local mechanic could find any indication of a error light.

While driving at a steady speed the car lost power, the tach dropped to 1,000 rpm. The yellow wrench light came on. Car started slowing down. Pressed accelerator and nothing happened. Car would not respond at all. Pulled off the road into a parking lot. Took car out of gear and the idle started to vary from 500 to 1500. Shut the car off. A few seconds later started it up and was able to drive home without incident. It has occurred on four more occasions since then. Most recently 2 weeks ago.

On the freeway going approx 45 mph in the pouring rain; changed lanes, brake a bit to 35. Happened as i sped back up, orange wrench appeared and car began to slow down to about 10 mph till i got to a service station directly off the freeway. Sat for about 8 min. Started up and drove home with no incident.two days later happened again. This time inching along trying to change freeways. Got to emg lane and sat about five min. Started up and got home with no problem. Only 16 miles between home and work - all freeway.

While transitioning from one road to another, the vehicle suddenly lost power. When trying to accelerate, the vehicle reached approximately 5000 rpms and did not reach a speed above 20mph. This continued to occur at each stopping point. The engine would then "kick" and normal driving capabilities would be restored briefly.

I was driving home friday and i notice a light on the left side of the dash and it look like a wrench, so after about 10 minutes the car began to slowdown, so i pressed the acceleration but the car would not speedup and it acted as tho the transmission was slipping so i was able to coast to the right lane and over to the side off, the freeway after i stop the car, then i turn the engine back on and the car would drive normal,if i accelerated slowly it acted like the trans was slipping, and after i got home i was going to back the car but it would not move when i placed the transmission in reverse it would not move., this is a 2009 ford focus, and after reading the reviews on line i see that i am not the only that this have happen to, and this is a very dangerous place to be in on the freeway doing 70mph. And this happened ford should recall this mod of vehicles.

While driving my 2009 ford focus on a trip the car lost power and coasted to a stop. The engine began to violently shake the car. The wrench light came on. We shut the car off and restarted it. It worked fine. On the return trip home the car did the same thing. We took it to the dealer, phil long ford in colorado springs, co. They said nothing was wrong with the car. It's still under warranty and they refuse to repair the car or look further as they told me they are losing money to do so. The mechanic doesn't get paid nor the dealership, it's a lose-lose for us - "they aren't part of ford" was also in their response. Sorry, but you're out of luck. I've sent a letter to the president of phil long and ford motor co. I was told a service manager would call and help after this. 10 days have passed and nothing has happened. The car issue is dangerous as it almost caused an accident. Further non work on this may cause loss of life or an accident yet. I believe ford and the dealership should take this seriously. The car again is under warranty and no one is willing to assist because their computers don't register an issue.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated while the vehicle was traveling 50 to 60 mph the transmission independently shifted and the vehicleresponded as if it was stalling. The contact tookthe vehicle to the dealer, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 16,000 and the current mileage was 18,000.

2009 ford focus seat belt catches in seat tilt lever when adjusting seat and is cut. Belt replaced by dealer for $238. Occurred rarely when changing drivers.belt replaced once.

My seat belt on the drivers side would not unlock after several minutes i looked more closely and i was able to unlock it...but now it will not lock ...it is not latching like a spring or something isnt working...i was stationary trying to exit my car at my apartment

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the passenger seat belt would not lock and remain secure. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 187,000.

The little plastic thing on the seat belt that prevents the latch from sliding down to to base of the belt by the door fell of a while ago, and i don't know how to replace it.

2009 ford focus headrest mis- alignment problem.*njthe consumer stated on trips longer than 30 minutes, the consumer experienced pain in her shoulders from having her head bent forward and having no support on her upper back when she tried to sit straight up. When the consumer turned her head quickly, she hit her head on the headrest, and the passenger side headrest obstructed her vision. The dealer suggested that the consumer turn the headrest around to alleviate the problem, but she discovered that could not be done on her vehicle.

Occasionally, without warning or prediction, when i apply the brakes to slow down, my brake pedal will travel nearly to the floor which reduces braking time and ability. Braking typically returns to normal after each incident. At no point does an abs or brake system light come on. This happens at least 1 or 2 times during my commute each way to work, which is approximately 18 miles away or a 1 hour drive time with traffic.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. While driving 35 mph, the brakes failed and the vehicle was involved in a crash. The contact tried to stop the vehicle abruptly, but the brakes malfunctioned. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was able to be driven away from the scene. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle had a history of steering failure. The contact stated that the vehicle's steering wheel jerked to the right on more than one occasion and the power steering pump was replaced by an independent mechanic. A dealer was not made aware of the crash or the steering failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the crash. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

Before taking a right out of the parking lot, i turned my blinker on (with my foot on the brake) and the car accelerated forward instead of turning. I kept my foot on the brake and the car speeded up even more. I finally crashed into a fence onto private property. Then i came to a full stop when i hit an suv. This crash completely damaged the front of my 2009 ford focus.

-contact rented a 2009 ford focus.while driving at a speed of 60-65 mph on dry pavement and exiting onto a ramp the contact applied the brakes and felt the wheels lock causing her to crash into the preceeding vehicle . The contact feels that the vehicle was faulty and does not know why the wheels locked up. The current mileage is 1070 and failure mileage was 1055. Updated 05/26/09 the consumer stated while driving, she heard a lot of noises around the drivers side door, as the ough the door was not closed properly. When she exited the ramp, the right front brake seemed to grab and shake everytime it was applied.about 2 blocks away, there had been heavy rainstorm, and when the consumer attempted to apply the brakes, the vehicle skidded and hit another vehicle in front of her. The consumer stated the brakes failed and pulled severly to the right which caused the accident. The vehicle was a rental. Updated 05/28/09.

While driving the car, a focus, i tried to stop for a red light; when i stepped on the brake, the car accelerated momentarily. I pushed harder on the brake and the car did stop.however, this has happened four times in the last month (mid january to mid february, 2009), and the last time it happened, i came within inches of rear-ending a stopped car.--this was after i left about double the stopping space that would be normal for a stop..the car is now at the dealership for the second time and they are trying to duplicate the problem, with no luck so far.

Power steering fluid leak leading to loud noises when running car. Ford knows about this problem and hasn't done jack about it for about 5 or more years. There is either a problem with the o-ring or power steering pump. If the problem is not found there could be more issues like the power steering failing. A recall is needed asap!!!!!

Driving at normal hwy speed, the rental car (2009 ford focus) wandered as if something was wrong in the wheels or steering wheel and then flipped over on the left side of the road. My entire family almost perished that day.

I was involved in a rollover in 2009. The car steering was loose and caused me to lose control on the road. I was switching lanes on the highway, the road was uneven and the steering seemed to stop working. Also the airbags did not deploy. It was a rental car.

After breaking my leg as a result of driving this vehicle with misaligned wheels on snowy/icy roads and thereby losing control (report filed), i have gone to a local mechanic who has allowed me to visually inspect other vehicles of the same year, make and model.what i have found has been verified by 4 different mechanics in 4 different repair facilities.the wheels on a 2009 ford focus physically can not be put into alignment.the adjuster arms are too short.what that means is that the wheels, which "toe in", fight against eachother for road control.this causes premature tire wear, and on ice and snow will cause a very rapid loss of control at any speed.the degree of that loss of control will vary depending on the amount of "toe in", but needless to say even a little loss of control on a slippery road is very dangerous.the fact that the adjuster arms are too short to provide true alignment indicates a design flaw.the fact that it can, and has, caused accidents indicates that it is a dangerous one.the fact that no one has been killed driving one of these death traps on a snowy road is nothing short of a miracle.please make ford do something before someone gets killed!!

It first started when i was driving down the highway and i started to feel my steering wheel shake. Nothing major, i just thought it was out of alignment. Days later, i had my front windows rolled down when i was pulling out of my drive way and i could hear my front and rear suspension creaking really bad. And now even when the cars turned off and not moving at all its still making a high pitched screeching noise coming from the suspension noise...no clue how that's even possible. I know its not coming from the engine cause the cars turned completely off, and i've tested it out with the hood open to see if i could possibly hear it better but im still hearing it from the front and rear suspension area. I've googled "ford focus suspension problems" and tons of other people have had similar problems with their suspension from focuses from 2000-2011.i did more reading and peoples camber will start to change to the point where they're buying new tires every year...im just saying i don't want a front suspension part to break apart down the highway when im driving 70 and have me crash into a ditch or a truck or something like that. Definitely something to check out.

My 2009 ford focus has had obvious suspension issues since 6000 miles. Rear tires always slip in wet conditions from a stopped position during a normal initial acceleration. Furthermore at speeds greater than (>) 60 mph the steering wheel vibrates and the car shakes. I am a fairly good driver and in countless "normal" driving conditions my car has gotten into an "out of control state" luckily i was able to recover.i had taken the car to a ford dealership to be told the tires were causing the problem. I replaced tires, had an alignment performed and again in short order (less than 6000 miles driven) the issues came up again.this is an extremely dangerous safety issue. First of all the need to accelerate without your back tires and rear of vehicle sliding/shifting side to side is essential. Furthermore, a car should not vibrate and rattle violently at speeds of only 55 mph.i fear that if i continue driving this car in it's current state, i run the risk of getting into an accident.

Took my 2009 ford focus to dealer for oil change; told dealer i had lumpy left rear tire; was told i didn't rotate my tires; asked how often i should rotate; dealer said whenever oil changed; dealer cost was $25 for tire rotation; i did it myself; next day put car up on hoist, rotated the tires, and drove; front end shook and was uncontrollable; went back to shop and put tires back as they were; vibration was minor in left rear corner; at 12000 miles took car to dealer for oil change; was told i needed tire rotation; told them i tried @ 6000 miles and front of car shook so had to put tires back where they were; dealer said too much in car and was throwing alignment off; that needed to buy new tires & would take care of shaking in back; since purchase, car was new i have to drive with white knuckles at a very slow speed if the road is wet or has snow on the road . After 1/4" of dry powdery snow the car is all over the road and can't drive over 25mph without the back of the car swaying back and forth. I have never drove any car in my life i am so afraid to drive in any amount of snow or rain. At 20000 miles i had to put on 4 new tires . The salesman told me that they were excellent on snow and rain . I took off for home and they were the same. At 30000 miles i complained again and they said i needed to rotate the tires more often because the left rear tire was cupping. At 40000 i bought 2 tires and put the front tires on the rear and threw the left rear tire away. I took to dealer and insisted it check alignment with whatever was in the car; technician checked & said left rear control arm must have been damaged by hitting curb which was not true; told needed to spend $530 to correct (warranty had run out); could not find problem when under warranty.

Drivers side door incapacitated. Part inside door brakes and door becomes locked in place. Have to climb out window or over the passenger seat. In an emergency this would be difficult. I have had it repaired once and it has broken again part ishard to find and costly to replace ( for what it is). Part is plastic. Luke probably fonction better if replacement was metal.

I was pulling into a parking space in a school lot and was attempting to pull into a parking spot with my foot on the brake. I was going less than 5 mph. For no reason with my foot still on the brake the cars engine unexplained raced causing the vehicle to go forward striking the back of a pickup. The vehicle bounced off that vehicle and i hit another parked vehicle sending it into another vehicle. All this time i had no control as the engine was still racing and my foot on the brake. My husband who was sitting in the front seat reached over and put the car into park. All the vehicles that were struck were parked at the time. However there were children walking into the school for an awards ceremony. There was several thousand dollars in damage to all the vehicles. In the fall of 2013 this happened to the engine as i was pulling into a ball field, again with children present. My husband had to reach over and turn the ignition off. There were no injuries or damage. Upon checking with ford they stated that there weer no recall on this vehicle. Answer to the problem. Spray silicone to the throttle body!!! after the may 29th incident i found that there was a class action law suit against against the ford motor corp. For this problem. In the suit a list of their makes and models were listed. In my case the ford focus years 2008-2010 was listed.. My claims adjuster was well aware of the problem and had the same print out. I asked if my insurance company would subrogate against ford and he politely said no as it was a losing battle. I'am appalled that the ford co. Had no recall, as of this date there are none for this year and failed to make it known to all these vehicle owners. I'am thankful that there were no personal injury to any children waling in the lot or ball field. Is there any recourse for me?

The rear passenger door latches have stopped working. My wife was driving home with my son in rear seat and the door came open around a turn.they are lubricated regularly and they will move properly but internally they will not latch, therefore they will not stay closed. I have a strap holding the doors closed. At first it happened once in a while.now they don't work at all.

The rear door locks will become inoperative at any time.the real safety hazard is that the locks will not even manually operate. This will in effect trap any rear passenger in the car. In the event of an accident or fire this could prove to have catastrophic results. According to ford the whole door lock actuator mechanism must be replaced.

Inner door handle part on drivers side broke, with that being the only door with a key lock and no remote on this vehicle not allowing entry into vehicle (was extreme cold and left stranded outside being a serious hazard). Very small metal part that was engaged from plastic outer housing was cast metal and broke easily, this is documented has happening often on many online forums.this metal piece is under heavy strain, should have been designed from stamped/machined steel not cast metal. This is a major issue and ford needs to recall this item.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the driver, passenger and rear passenger doors could not be opened.the dealer diagnosed that all three new doors would need replacing.the manufacturer was contacted, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 38,000 and the current mileage was 50,892.

This car was purchased in 2010 for our daughter for college.after 6 months had to replace the tires. The mechanic replacing them warned us that on this car we would need to rotate them every so many miles because of theway they ware out.then atabout a year started having trouble with the doors not wanting to open got to bethe drivers door not opening at all.so had the ford dealership fix it was almost $600.long story short we have had toreplace tires 3 times now , and we have them rotated every 3000 miles.as for the doors the back doors will not open at all, have not fixed them . We have fixed the drivers door again and also the passenger door twice also.we purchased the car for the gas mileage. And yes all cars have their problems but not like this .she now has trouble thesuspension, the ignition switch is going out and when the car was painted , the trunk was not primed so the paint is all peeling off.this is the most costly car we have ever bought. We will never by another ford again.

There have been numerous incidents where i can not get my doors open because the doors will not unlock. I have had to crawl out of another doors a number of times. I am worried that if there is an accident i may not be able to get out.

Car purchased new from out of area dealer in december 2008 - no accidents or pothole contact. At 10090 miles, had right rear tire blowout, tire was replaced. Six months later, replaced both rear tires due to uneven wear, competed alignment at quality provider with no problems noted. Did not use dealer for the alignment because of local ( dealer's poor customer service and integrity reputation. December 2010, noticed same problem - severe diagonal cupping of rear tires. This time we took to different tire place and was told they could not do 4 wheel alignment due to a rear suspension componant issue. Immediately took the car to dealer where purchased, got excellent service however, they said they could not allign either, probably because we ran something over, which we knew we did not. We were not satisfied so they kept the car close to a week for testing, measuring, calibration etc.they finally said upper rear control arms were wrong size (i think they said too short), which they replaced at no charge for the parts, and said they were able to do the alignment, which cost $240.now september 2011, 41000 miles, and again there is severe diagonal cupping of the rear tires, which have to be replaced. We will take the car to the dealer purchased from and update this complaint later.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Vehicle was purchased used with 34,000 mi. Vehicle was brought to local dealer for recommended maintenance at 41,050 mi. And a complaint of wheel vibration. Dealer inspected and found severe cupping on inside of left rear tire and recommended 2 new tires and 4 point alignment. We had 2 rear tires replaced and 4 wheel alignment by local tire dealer. Front toe-in was corrected. The vibration continued at highway speeds. Two front tires were replaced about 2 weeks later. We now have 4 new tires and thesame vibration. The vibration feels like a tire is out of balance.

I have had the motor and transmission mounts replaced twice in the last two years on this vehicle. I was told to report it as that should never happen.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. While driving approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel and front end of the vehicle began to vibrate excessively. In addition, there was a strong burning odor inside of the vehicle. The speed was reduced and the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. The contact noticed the front passenger's side tire completely deflated. There was no flames present. The roadside assistance replaced the defective tire with a spare. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times for the similar. The technician stated the defect was related to faulty suspension. The repairs were performed on different occasions which consisted of replacing the front lower control arm, front rack and pinion. In addition, a four wheel alignment and camber kit installation was performed. The failure recurred after the repairs. There were a total of six set of tires replaced on the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000. The vin was unavailable.

Near miss.i bought a new 2009 ford focus 7 months ago; it had 25 miles on it.i have put 18,000 miles on it so far, mostly in the last 2 months.the back starts thumping at highway speeds about 1000 miles ago so today i take it in to bill knight ford, where i bought the car (74133) , and they tell me i need a rear end alignment and 2 new tires.amazing enough, they don't have the tires in stock- i'm guessing cause everyone that traded in the clunkers 7 months ago (to buy a focus), already beat me to the dealer ship.is it just me or does the $17,000 car have problems?

Purchased vehicle less than a year ago, from a dealership.new tires were put on at that time.mileage when purchased was 29000.while driving on snow and icy roads it would wobble and get squirrelly, which i attributed it to the lightness of the vehicle.there was no reason for me to suspect the tires as i have them rotated according to manufacturer specs, and no abnormalities have been mentioned to me by the dealer.however, last week i had an accident as a result of a worn out tire blowing out on a snowy road.inspection determined that all the tires were unevenly worn, and that the cause was that the arms which maintain tire alignment were physically incapable of doing so.this is not a manufacturing defect, it is a *design flaw*, which resulted in personal injury (broken arm, facial contusions).

Wear and tear on wheels.purchased the car brand new, 2 years after buying the car with only 21000 miles the original tires need to be replaced. Replaced tires and did a wheel alignment. 3 years later and only 23000 more miles and new tires again. Lug nuts were stripped and the tires were worn.the original tires were suppose to last 45,000 miles.the second set the same.now the set i just purchased are goodyear with a 60000 mile tread.i also purchased a warranty.my car only has about 45000 miles on it and my original tires should have just recently been replaced not on my 3rd set.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The vehicle was being serviced for a routine oil change when the mechanic advised the contact that both tires on the driver' side were wearing due to an unknown suspension problem. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they advised her she would need four new tires, struts, and other unknown repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 15,638 and the current mileage was 17,000.

I purchased this vehicle in december 2008. Since then there is only 28000 miles on it. Counting the original set of tires i am on my fourth set of tires. They wear uneven or entirely to quick.the rear tires seem to wear much more than the fronts probably at least 7 alignments over the last 3 to 4 years. There is a problem here and ford needs to own up to it.

Pre mature tire wear, right rear tire wore out at 25,000 mi. Wore out in 3 areas diagonally across tire face. Excessive vibration at highway speeds. Tires have been balanced 3 different times. New tires rebalanced twice. 45,000 mi. On vehicle now.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced for unrelated repairs, the contact was informed that the rear tires were cupping. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where it was confirmed that the tires were cupping and the shocks possibly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 78,343.

Vehicle has much greater tire wear than normal on rear tires. This is a result of the wrong camber on the rear wheels of this car!! ford manufactured it this way!!! the only way to correct the problem is with new control arms, which ford refuses to replace at their cost. With the wrong camber, each rear tire acquires cupping either on the inside or outside of the tread on the tire. I have severe cupping on the inside lr and moderate cupping on the outside of the tread on the rr. This wear pattern produces an out of balance condition and as such a safety hazard. These vehicles should be recalled and corrected, i feel that i've been sold a defective product !!

This is getting absolutely ridiculous! i am on my sixth set of tires!! they wear uneven after less than 20k miles making a more than annoying wobble.i have gotten numerous alignments and new sway arm links. Dealership said i needed new bearings another alignment and another set of tires!at this point i have spent over $6000 on repairs to this vehicle all related to the same issue!!! there's obviously something wrong that ford needs to fix! i have seen tons of complaints on here involving the same issue,so this is obviously not related to my driving. A recall needs to be made and this needs to be addressed!i did not buy this car brand new off the lot for 26k to have to keep dumping money into it! the fact that ford will not own up to this being a horrible assembly/planning/product is appalling and i will never buy a ford product again!!

Motor and transmission mounts need replacing on 2009 ford focus with only highway miles on it.

I have changed tires on this car 3 times since i bought it april 5, 2010. I have taken the car in to our local ford dealer and they informed me the last time i put tires on the car that the focus cars have this type of problem. I asked how they could fix it and they informed me that they would have to remove the rear control arms and replace them, because they can't adjust the arms to align the car properly and it would continue to have this problem if we don't change the control arms on the car, the cost of repair quoted was $600.00. After putting $600.00 worth of tires on i couldn't afford to have the control arms changed. I was told it was a manufactures problem.

Car purchased new from out of area dealer in december 2008 - no accidents or pothole contact. At 10090 miles, had right rear tire blowout, tire was replaced. Six months later, replaced both rear tires due to uneven wear, competed alignment at quality provider with no problems noted. Did not use dealer for the alignment because of localdealer's poor customer service and integrity reputation. We will take the car to the dealer purchased from and update this complaint later.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated the rear tires were wearing prematurely and were replaced at 29,000 miles. In addition, when driving at a speed of at least 50 mph, the rear of the vehicle would abnormally bounce. The dealer advised that the rear trans axle was slightly off yet within specifications. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 29,000.

The rear tires are wearing unevenly even with alignments. Rear suspension is now a problem.three sets of tires in 50,000 miles.

Two tires, with only 20,000 miles on them, have both worn down on the outside of the tire.the tires that we took off previous to these did the same thing.car has been aligned and tires are rotated on a regular basis.

All of the hankook tires had tread separation.one was so bad that it separated all the way around the tire so that it was separated like a doughnut was on the surface.i always have the correct pressure but these tires were dangerous when they came apart.the tire repair person could not believe how bad they were.i kept the tires to show anyone about these hazards.

The contact stated that the ignition was turned on that the tire pressure system monitor warning light indicator did not illuminate when tire failure occurred. Due to the failure of the warning indicator the tires completely deflated and nearly shredded. The failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately three times for the identical failure. The technician stated that the tire pressure system monitor operated properly and that the warning light illuminated when the tire pressure measured 15 psi, although the accurate pressure should measure between 26 to 27 psi. The contact was waiting on a response from the manufacturer regarding the failures. The failure mileage was 24,274. The current was mileage was 33,512.

I purchased this previously owned vehicle in late summer 2011.the mileage on the vehicle at the time was approximately 12,000.within a couple days of my 2011 purchase the tire pressure sensor monitor failed and had to be replaced.on friday october 17, 2014 the tpsm had failed again and was replaced.the problem is this - it was the.....5th time... I've had a tpsm fail and replaced.my focus has only 32,000 miles on it.

I recently had four (4) new tires installed on my 2009 ford focus.in the process, one or more tire pressure sensors were damaged.the tire store has 'welded' the broken item back into place, a temporary fix at best.the tire pressure sensors are apparently fragile and vulnerable to the types of stress put on the auto wheels during tire changes.i assume that the "fix" may fail at any time, and also that during future tire replacements, other sensors will be damaged.ford needs to fix this problem.i know two other ford focus owners, both of whom have suffered similar problems during tire changes.

Vehicle was stationary...in the past year...all door handles have become broken...i can not get into vehicle from outside of the vehicle...i have to leave driver side window down to open door from inside on rainy days i have to leave backseat down to enter through the trunk of vehicle to get into vehicle...the back doors do not open from inside or outside...i am currently 28 weeks pregnant this is the only vehicle i have and is becoming very difficult to enter my vehicle...not to mention how unsafe it is and will be once my child is born.

Had and accident after 6 months of paying on the car, which was sept. 2009.. Inside of tired bald, took to ford to have oil changed, and supposedlook over, but was never told about the inside warn tires. Back doors will not open from inside or out, front driver side door will not open from the outside, have had to buy tires every six months, becausecar wears them out, constant repairs that never seem to fix the car handling issues.. Had far too many repairs for the last 8 years of having the car..

Ignition module...ignition switch.car won't start with key, unless pushed in hard, and even then it takes several times for it to start.

The motor mount whichsit on top of the engine that constantly makethe entire car toshake extremely.motor mount was replace and within 6 months the same results.

The back doors have locked, and cannot be unlocked with the key fob, lock button or manually.

All four door handles are broken...cannot get into the car unless i leave a window down...on rainy days i have to leave back seats down and get in through the trunk of vehicle...from 2015-2016...car was stationary...i would try to open door the handle would break you can the piece that breaks fall on the inside of door

Side door latch opens while drivingand or door will not latch when closed after opening while parked

The back door looks stay locked, you can no longer unlock with key pod nor manually on the inside. Back seat is useless to me now.i have tried various things like changing fuses seeing if i could force unlock. But i don't use child safety locks so don' t think that is issue.

The ignition is going out..really have to jam key into the colum to get it to start

Gas pedal wants to stick.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the throttle had seized in the closed position. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle began to idle high and accelerated abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis however the failure could not be replicated. The failure recurred numerous times. Each time the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified and extended the warranty on the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 13,074 and the current mileage was 33,600.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that while stopped, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle would not respond. The contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The contact sustained injuries to his right ankle and foot. The contact sought medical attention for his injuries. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 86,285.

Car frequently revs engine high when coming to a stop, when at idle the engine revs from 400-1100rpms uncontrollably. Has occasionally dropped all power at highway speeds. Ford dealer said the pcm is bad and that there's a service bulletin on it. However, the dealer says ford motor will not release a replacement part. I've loudly complained that the vehicle is unsafe to drive.

Approaching a stop sign i applied the brakes, did not come to a stop, as the motor continued to accelerate(motor revved up beyond 1500 rpm. Got the ar under control, turned off the engine. Restarted the car 4 times and each time the motor was racing. If i had not had my foot on the brake i would have continued moving forward.i did not take my foot off the brake to see how fast the car would have gone as traffic was too congested. Did not wish to take a chance and drive the car . I called for an emergency tow and had the car delivered to my ford dealer where it is being looked over. A similar situation occurred on 4/16/2009 the dealer at that time could not determine the problem.(odi # 10328218).

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the vehicle jumped a curb and crashed into a pole. The driver sustained no personal injury. There was property damage, and a police report filed. The vehicle was completely destroyed. In addition, the engine revved without warning on a separate occasion. The failure and current mileages were unknown. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle idled and would not accelerate properly. The vehicle would operate only if the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The vehicle would not accelerate past 15 mph. The contact stated that an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times before the warning light dimmed. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,600.

Vehicle died in the middle of the road, while daughter was driving. Would not start. This has happened several times now. Took it to ford and they say problem is with the throttle control.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate from a complete stop as the service sensor warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer where he was informed that the defect was due to a faulty throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified.the failure mileage was 72,000.

Approaching a red light at about 30mph i applied the brakes and the engine revved to a higher speed and i could not stop the vehicle until i put it in neutral and stood on the brakes. Luckily there was no one in front of me as i went about 6 feet into the intersection have had the car since 07/2009. Thisis first time this has happened. Informed dealer and car will be looked at 04/22/2010.

I was driving my 2009 ford focus coupe approx 70mph on interstate 10 in the california desert at 3pm whenthe car suddenly and rapidly decelerated. I was in the 2nd to the left-hand lane and the rapid deceleration very nearly caused a multi-car collision with the cars behind to my right and left as the car directly behind me swerved to avoid rear-ending me. I had the car towed to a ford dealership which was unable to find any codes or duplicate the problem and returned the car to me as is. This car is highly unsafe to drive.

Upon starting the vehicle, the engine light was on and the vehicle would not travel more than 30 mph. The vehicle would not accelerate at all in response to pressing the accelerator. The vehicle would only coast when lifting off the brake pedal. After taking the vehicle to the dealership, the throttle body required replacement which was done under the warranty.

I purchased my 2009 ford focus from the ford dealership in stockton, ca. As i was driving home from work during rush hour in the fast lane, without warning, the car went in to (what my mechanic called) limp mode. The car instantly went from 70 mph to 15 mph - very scary! again, this happened while i was driving in very heavy commute traffic. Definitely a very dangerous scenario. I was able to move over into the slow lane and limp off the freeway, doing 15 mph for about a quarter of a mile. Quite honestly, i don't know how i did it without being slammed into by other vehicles. All i could do was coast. I came to a stop on the shoulder of the exit ramp. The car idled very rough. I turned it off, waited for a few seconds, and then turned it back on. It started right up as if nothing happened. I was able to get home without further incident. Our mechanic said there were no error codes in the computer. Apparently, they were cleared when the car was shut off. After this event occurred a few more times after driving the car for about an hour at high speeds, i decided to make it happen while i was close enough to home so my mechanic could come and check the car for codes while it was still running. It was like clock work. The car went into limp mode after being driven for close to one hour and my mechanic was able to pull the codes while the car was still running. The throttle body assembly was replaced (by our local mechanic) to the tune of about $600. Looks like there have been a lot of complaints about this issue. I think it's fair to say there have probably been fatalities associated with this problem, although we don't hear about them. A recall is in order!!!

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that the driver side sun visor failed to stay in place. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the visor was replaced by the dealer on three previous occasions. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 3,207 and the current mileage was 30,915. Updated 09/30/11*lj updated 3/29/12

We were driving our 2009 ford focus home on the highway when we hear a loud noise. Scared all of us. Then i hear glass falling on the cover of sunroof. The thing had exploded and shattered!!! not cracked but shattered! thank god that i had that cover closed because i was driving about 65 mph.the glass did not fall into small circles like i have been told the glass should have.the odd thing is the glass is pushed outward like someone kicked from the inside. It is a 2009 still under warranty.the dealership took pictures and emailed them to headquarters for a decision if the warranty would cover it.it came back denied.they won't do anything. So i called the insurance company and they are taking care of it all except $50. But the more research online i'm finding out that this is a common thing. People are just driving with alone the highway and it explodes. Most of them have their sunroofs close but some have had them slide all the way open and they hear something, to only slide it close and see it is shattered.so if you have a sunroof and driving with it closed on the highway... Make sure you keep the cover pulled closed. I hate to think of what the glass could have done to the girls if it had been open.

Second time in two months windshield has developed astress fracture.

The windshield wipers and a/c fan would not go on when i got into the vehicle.the vehicle was hot inside from being parked in my driveway under the hot sun. I could start the vehicle and the a/cbut the wipers and fan would not turn on.once on the road, the wipers still would not work nor the a/c fan.i parked in the nearby library lot and waited for the rain to stop and ambient temperature to go down.then the wipers started to work. I called the ford dealership & got an appt for 8-7-18 to fix the problem but now the repair dept wants me to replicate the deficiency.i hold the dealership responsible for any injury or damage that happens if they refuse to fix the problem since i brought the vehicle in for repair on time..

I was driving down the road, at 55-60 mph and all of a sudden i heard a loud bang, well my sunroof just exploded from the inside out. Nothing hit it, the roads were bare, i wasn't under any trees, nothing. There's a big hole, and surrounding the hole the glass is shattered. I took pictures of it. The glass is pointed out, not in. If something had fell on it, there would have been a lot of glass inside the vehicle but there wasn't. Its a brand new car! 2009 ford focus. Haven't even had it a year. Company wont cover it under warranty because they believe something hit it. I said no. I did my research and found 3 other ford vehicles that have had the same thing happen. This is a very dangerous situation and needs to be looked at. Its unsafe. I could have had little pieces of glass in my eye!!! or if i had a passenger they would have gotten all these little shards of glass on them. Completely ridiculous. Something needs to be done.

Sunroof shattered: merging onto the freeway hit a few pot holes and my sunroof just shattered.nothing hit it is just made a crashing sound.

Left rear hub came off car on freeway, crossed over to other side, and killed another driver in the opposite direction, and he had his 12 year old daughter next to him. I guess this has happened with the 2001 ford focus, ford knew about it, but yet failed to fix the problem, resulting in this mans death. I feel they should be held criminaly responsible.

Ford manufacture the focus with a 2 degree negative camber. This makes your rear tires go defective as fast as 10,000 miles especially if you don't rotate your tires very often. You can get an alignment every month and it will not fix the defect. I have 24,000 miles on my focus and i have my third set of tires on it. I've did the research. An alignment shop here in warrensburg mo found the problem and fixes around 4-5 ford focus a month. They put in a kit that brings the camber within a fraction of a inch which will give you about 3 times the life span of the tires. The don't have the ability to zero the camber. If you don't get this done, you will be buying tires like i did every year. I did make a complaint to my dealer and the ford company itself with no help so i sent my complaint to the national highway safety department which investigates safety issues and forces auto companies to fix defects with a recall. Need folks like you to do the same. The last set of rear tires i took off scared me. It was so close of coming apart. My complaint is the same as this guys complaint i posted above. I had to change my first set of tires on my brand new 2009 ford focus at 22,000 miles due to severe cupping, my second set at 38,000 miles, and my third set at 60,000 miles. I took it to ford dealer the first time and was told it a known defect issue of the rear camber but no recall. To fix it you have to pay for am approximately $400 kit as described above. If you continue to drive it and not change the tires you get severe bouncing on the front end and makes steering difficult and dangerous. This is a company car so we change the tires often as a result of this defect for safety reasons.

The rear tires are wearing unevenly even with alignments. Rear suspension is now a problem.three sets of tires in 50,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2009 ford focus. The contact stated that she had to change all four tires 3 times in under 40,000 miles. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 8,505 and the current mileage 40,000.

Driving at normal hwy speed, the rental car (2009 ford focus) wandered as if something was wrong in the wheels or steering wheel and then flipped over on the left side of the road. My entire family almost perished that day.

We purchased the vehicle in fall 2012 and noticed the original tires had delaminated and worn horribly in the front .we replaced all four tires with alignment with top of the line nokia which should have given us 70k wear.we got ready for a cross country trip from washington to florida.we discovered the tires needed replacing because of really uneven wear on the inside.we decided to replace them when we arrived in florida.we got them installed and had another four wheel alignment done.we are hoping they won't need another set for at least 60k miles.reading these complaints i'm not so sure now.we spent $900 on the set of nokia hoping they would last.i'll be really upset if we only get 20000 miles out of this new se .is this a vehicle problem??
