Purchased a 2014 ford focus electric in july of 2014.about 1 month and 1400 miles later i began to experience problems with the "stop safely now" message.vehicle will immediately loose power to accelerator while still maintaining power to braking and steering. The problem has occurred 4 times while driving since the 31st of july (today is 5 aug 2014).attempted to take to the dealer today.however, the only certified ev technician is on vacation until next week.ford website says vehicle is not eligible for current recalls.i will attempt to bring vehicle to service center next week.

During driving in the rain and the car had the "stop safely" light come on and it stalled in the middle of the road.i had my kids with me and traffic behind me when this happened.this happened twice in a matter of couple of hours.it again happened on december 3, as i braked at a red light.

Was taking off from work - barely got out of the parking lot and the car came up with the warning light and said to pull over.barely pulled over the car shut off.dealer hasn't really had to work on their electric cars, had to contact their engineering department.now they say they have to replace the electrical harness of the car. Car also doesn't grip the road when at a stop and trying to do a quick pull out to merge into traffic.

I had yet another "stop safely now" warning in which the car completely lost power to the drivetrain while in motion. I had previously taken in the car for the recall in january and was told that would resolve the issue, but the problem has popped up again. This is a very dangerous thing to happen to have a car suddenly lose all power while driving in the middle of the road. Ford has clearly not fixed this problem yet.

Ford's recall campaign number 13s09 only addressed certain models produced thru late 2013, however my car was produced in 3/2014 and displayed the same issue. I've experienced two occasions where the car lost power and displayed the "stop safely now" warning message on cluster. The first happened on 11/7/14 while stopped at a stop sign. Took it to ford dealer who cleared code and stated it's is fine. It happened again on 11/13/14 while driving up on my driveway. Both times, the car worked again after turning it off and waiting about 5 mins.

On 4 separate occasions since purchasing this vehicle on 9/22/2017, the car while in motion has abruptly and unexpectedly lost all power and rolled to a complete stop.when this happens a warning indicator on the dash reads "stop safely now"!once stopped, the car is unresponsive and cannot be turned off or restarted. Only after several minutes of waiting (5+ mins), the car responds again, allowing a restart.thankfully, in all four instances, i have been traveling on city streets and have been able to pull to the side of the road safely, but this is a very dangerous situation, as the car loses all power and once stopped it will not respond.

Brand new 2014 ford focus electric - less than 200 miles on odometer.driving on 35mph road during evening rush hour the car suddenly flashed a "stop safely now" warning on the dash.as i looked for a place to pull over the car shut down completely (dash gauges went dark...estimated less than 10 seconds after warning message).fortunately i was able to coast into a parking lot because i was at speed but i lost power steering.headlights flickering, relays clicking, etc.i called ford roadside assistance for a tow. Had this happened at a faster speed on a highway, i or other drivers could have been killed or severely injured.ford supposedly corrected this defected in earlier models years.at this point i do not feel safe driving the vehicle until i have positive confirmation the problem has been identified and corrected.ford is going to kill someone if they don't get this corrected!at http://www.myfocuselectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=900&sid=8bb1f29cee82b54e62bb67213b1b3b1d&start=500 there are a string of complaints from ford focus electric owners on this dangerous defect. Updated 1/21/2016

The vehicle has reported "stop safely now" and doesn't start. Luckily the car is parked in the garage. This is the second time of happening without any further diagnostic details or warning. Last time this happened in the middle of the road while driving and shut the power to the wheels completely.

Over the last 3 years, the vehicle displays "stop safely now" and all electrical systems shut off immediately after or soon after the message is displayed and the car has come to a complete stop. This occurs at low city speeds (20-30 mph) as well as highway speeds (60-70 mph) leaving the driver and it's occupants sitting vulnerable to being hit by moving traffic. This usually occurs while braking to slow or stop. This has happened 15-20 times over the last three years. We have brought in the car for service for this same problem 3-4 times each time being told that this is due to various reasons (harness, loose connections, faulty circuits, etc.). No fixes to date have permanently fixed the problem. Usually, the problem is temporarily resolved when the vehicle comes to stop, it's placed in "park" and the car turned off. After a minute or two, it can be restarted as normal. However, seeing as though this happens randomly at any speed, taking the workaround steps described is unacceptable on the highway or at intersections where car occupants can be struck at any moment by oncoming traffic given the frequency of the issue.

On tuesday, september 22, 2015, while my son was driving on the freeway at 65 mph in the carpool lane, the car suddenly stalled on him and loss all power to the car.a message popped up on the dash in an orange triangle stated "stop safely now".since he was in the carpool lane, he did not have enough time to get the car off to the side.he was stranded in a busy carpool lane and almost got rear end from behind when the car suddenly cut off all power and came to a stop.this has put my son in a great danger situation!!!he could have got rear ended and the stalling of the car could have caused a multi-cars accident in the carpool lane on the freeway.somehow he managed to able to restart the car after turning the car on, off and opening the driver side door and closing it several time. The car continue to have the same problem on and off for the next couple of days.we finally got the car into ford dealership september 24, 2015.at the time of this report, ford dealership has not call me with a cause for the issue.i also noted that there was a recall for a similar issue that was issued from ford for the electric vehicle for model 2012 to 2014.the serviceman at ford dealership told me that my vin number was not on that recall list yet my son still encountered the same issue that was described in the nhtsa investigation report a couple of years ago. I dont think ford has done enough to correct this dangerous problem.

The contact leased a 2014 ford focus electric. After the vehicle was charged, it was discovered that the outlet had melted. The manufacturer was contacted and told the contact that there must be faulty wiring at the residence. An electrician was contacted and stated that the wiring was not faulty. The outlet was replaced, however, the failure recurred on two other occasions where the outlet melted and was replaced. The failure also occurred at the contact's office. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the charging plug was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000. Updated 01/12/16*ljupdated 02/03/16*lj

"stop safely now" warning and motor shut down while driving on city roads.the car was pushed to a nearby parking lot.has been at the dealership for nearly 2 months due to a backorder of a high voltage power cable.ford has been unhelpful and is not taking responsibility for the part backorder.they are claiming the backorder is the manufacturer's responsibility and not their own.

Stop safely now error message appears when trying to start the car, often.the error disables the car.sometimes the car will work immediately after restarting and sometimes i just have to try again later in the day after finding alternative modes of transportation for the time being.most often occurs when conditions or damp like early morning or following rain.

Vehicle has experienced several instances where a 'stop safely now' error appears on dashboard. When stationary, this prevents vehicle from starting. When in motion, power steering is disabled and braking is more difficult. Separately, the vehicle frequently indicates an abs warning light while driving at approximately 45 mph in city driving. Further error messages occur regarding loss of traction control, usually occurring at around 5 mph in neighborhood.

I was traveling about 35 mph when my car flashed a message "stop safely now" and the car had lost power to the wheels and i was now just coasting.i pulled the vehicle off to the side of the road.i was able to turn off the vehicle and get it started again.i was lucky that i was able to safely get my vehicle to a safe place had this been on a freeway i would have surely been in a serious accident.

The vehicle shut off while leaving the freeway.

"stop safely now" warning light came on at ~18k miles, 17 months into ownership, while driving on express way at ~35 mph.car powered off after coming to a complete stop at next stoplight, was stranded before intersection.car did power up again and was driveable after opening and closing driver door, waiting several minutes, and turned power off and on.

While driving down a major local road, the car completely lost driving power (accessories still worked) and a warning light on the dashboard came on saying "stop safely now!".my wife was barely able to pull over and we were unable to get the car moving again, eventually towing it to the dealership.when we picked the car up they stated that a connection to the high voltage battery came loose and they've fixed it.yesterday, when attempting to start the car, the same warning message came on and the car would not start.we once again have had the car towed to the dealership.the dealer called me this morning saying the car "works fine" which makes me more concerned since clearly this issue is now totally unpredictable.

Car was in the garage with fully charged.i tried to start car and i got message "safe mode shutdown" on the right screen and "stop safely now" on the left screen.car lights start blinking and after a while whole car shutdown and disabled.car is not responding remote key. Back door is locked and can't open.i tried to put back to charged and nothing changed at all.i called ford road side assistance and taking car to service tomorrow.

Stop safely now error message displayed along with multiple other error messages (tire fault, engine coolant error, rear parking sensor error, etc).car is brand new and unable to drive.

The vehicle was stationary with no power. The vehicle would not start and displayed a yellow tool wrench that read 'see manual' and then would change to a yellow triangle with a red exclamation mark that read 'stop vehicle safely.' had the vehicle towed to av ford and they have been nothing but unhelpful. They state it's water intrusion to the connectors and is not covered under the manufacture warranty and to file a claim with my auto insurance company.they cannot provide any diagnostic testing to conclude their water intrusion to the connector's theory. We had a rainstorm the day before i brought the vehicle in to them.they are using water intrusion damage as a scapegoat to fixing the real issue which is a defect to the powertrain control module. Ford did however provide me a written estimate of repair for $33,160.42.this is absurd and is more than the car is even worth. These cars continue to have this issue despite of the recall they had for this problem.ford focus electric vehicles that were not part of the original recall in november 2013 are experiencing the same complete loss of power because the issue has not been fixed.

Six times my car's engine has stopped working.either i am driving and it gives me a 10 second warning before the engine shuts off or i am parked and it won't start up properly.every time it gets towed or i take it to the dealership, they tell me they have updated the computer system and it should be fine.ford's corporate office has said results are inconclusive and there is nothing they can do to help me.after doing research online, it seems like this is a common issue with this vehicle.

I was driving along at freeway speed, in commute traffic, and the power shut down and an alert showed on the dash "pull over safely". There was no power left in my electric vehicle, so i coasted over to the shoulder. The car wouldn't drive.car was towed to ford, where it has taken over 2 weeks, and they are stating the whole motor needed to be replaced. There are only 17,000 miles on this car.i "googled" the "pull over safely" alert, and have found this seems to be an ongoing problem with this car for many people, and that ford had recalled over 2,000 ford focus ev cars, model years 2011-2013, for this exact reason.

While exiting the freeway the "stop safely now" warning light illuminated andthe electric drive motor lost power. After approximately 5 minutes the car power restored and i was able to complete my commute. Ford has not given me a reason for the failure yet.

I experienced what others have called the 'stop safely now' warning light and followed by the loss power and steering issues on city street. This issue happened many times recently on the local streets (march - april, 2019).thanks god, this didn't happen on the freeway ( otherwise, i can't image what could happen).i found the tsb 17-0045 online for this problem and brought this tsb to my dealership.they charged me $$ to get this car fixed by following the instruction of this tsb ( hopefully this got fixed).tsb 17-0045 specified the cars built 9/15-2011 to 8/15/2014 may have this issue.my car was built on june 2014.i strongly request nhtsa investigate this urgent safety issue.

While driving my 2014 ford fusion ev, the stop safely now warning sounded and the stop safely now warning error displayed. The car immediately lost power and stranded me in the middle of the road. This occurred in front on my home. My husband was able to restart it. I drove the car and within seconds, once again experienced the stop safely now warning and immediate power loss. The car was towed to the ford dealer.

On 4 separate occasions with 48 hours the "stop safely now" warning appeared on the dash accompanied with a total loss of power and/or the engine shutting off while the vehicle was in motion. These occurred in distinctly different scenarios: while accelerating from a stop, while braking, and two occurrences while traveling at 45 mph and 35 mph. The brakes and steering thankfully still worked however accidents almost occurred in the two higher speed scenarios.the vehicle could be restarted after it was turned off and on again. The warning would disappear with no further information.

I was driving the vehicle when the "stop safely now" (ssn) flashed on the dash and the car started beeping. I slowed down and was able to get off the road. The car then died and was inoperable. I got out to look around the car and make sure there were no flat tires - everything seemed fine. After a few minutes - i was able to start the car and it worked as usual. The car seemed fine so i kept driving it without incident until january 6th, 2015 when i was driving the 3 kids home from school - the battery had 75% on it and the ssn flashed on my dashboard. I slowed down coming to a light - and the car went completely dead - i tried to move it out of the lane to the side of the road - but there was no power to do that. We were stopped in the lane of a busy 4 lane road. There was no way around our car without cars merging into the other lane. It was very dangerous and unsafe for our family. I called aaa to have the car towed. I tried every few minutes to start the car - but it wouldn't work. Finally after 15 minutes - i started the car and it acted as if nothing was wrong. I drove the car to the dealer and they said the code poa0a: 01-08-pcm showed - they reset it and said no new code came up when they test drove it. Now a week later - i am driving the car on 1/14/15 and the ssn come on again. I slow down - the car won't move or restart. I wait 10 minutes. The car started and i drove it back to the dealer - the same code appeared. They reset it - but now want to keep the car until they can get it to stall on them. There is very little time from when the ssn flashed and beeps to pull of the road and get out of harms way. The last 2 times it happened i was stuck in the lane of traffic and could not move the car.

Without earning, this electric vehicle's power systems die, even if fully charged. The car is left inoperable. A engine light "stop safely now" appears and the car can't move.very dangerous if it happens in moving traffic.

Second time this has happened.back in january the car would not start from a parking lot.dealership checked it out and replaced the harness.this time was going down the freeway and the car shut off and the pull over now message came on.luckily for me the person behind me stayed with us while i pushed the car over to the side.this car has some issues and needs to be addressed.its back at the dealership today to find out what is wrong.i am going to see if they dealership will take it back and get me something else.i am not comfortable with a car shutting off while on the freeway.just not safe.

Three separate times while backing up from parking spaces and while pulling forward, the stop safely now light came on and the car lost all power. I was able to restart and drive normally but have heard of this condition happening while at speed. Car is in dealership for replacement of high voltage wiring harness.

This model has a "sticky" steering wheel that will not always return to the neutral position with out driver assistance and needs to be constantly adjusted to keep the vehicle driving in a straight line.you can actually let go of the steering wheel while going around a gradual curve in the road and the car will follow the curve the whole way without breaking its arch.it also suffers from dangerous "torque steering" which causes the vehicle steering to lose control when you accelerate aggressively.in addition, the electric steering reacts poorly with the regenerative breaking.if you need to break hard, the steering will swerve dangerously and inhibit driver control.i've approached ford about this and taken to the dealer several times and they say that's just the way the car is.i've talked to other owners of this type of car and not all but a good portion have had similar problems.one man even said he's afraid to drive the car 1. For safety, but 2. Because it looks like you're driving drunk because you have to constantly adjust the steering just to keep the car in line - looks like you're swerving.lastly, the mileage they say you can get from a charge isn't accurate and their app doesn't work in all locations.neither of which they disclosed before i leased this car.please check into this as ford doesn't care.i'm happy to assist your investigation in any way.thanks!

I got a loan on the car last year of 2017 and the car had issues accelerating. I do not recall the date but my husband and was on the hill and i and it stated transmission default. I took the car to ford and they replaced the clutch. For about 2mths it was fine. Then it wouldn't accelerate probably. The car then starts turning off in traffic and i almost was in a car accident. I then replaced the battery. Then i finally decided to take it to ford and that's when they told me i needed my entire fuel system replaced. I can not afford that and i am unable to purchase an extended warranty which will not even cover the existing issues even if i did purchase it. I continue to drive the car because my credit isn't good enough to obtain another car. I pay a more every month and i need some help.

"stop safely now".while driving, power to the car completely stopped multiple times."stop safely now" message shows on instrument panel.this has happened at least 7 times.the first while driving 65 mph on the freeway in february. Luckily i was able to get out of way of traffic before it came to complete stop.i took it to ford on 2/24/16 and they stated there was a recall to fix this (i never received notice of recall).they made the repairs and said it was safe to drive.on 4/18/16, the car again completely stopped as i entered an intersection and "stop safely now" message appeared again.a semi-truck behind me came to a skidding stop, a few feet from my bumper.i was very lucky once again to avoid an accident.i took the car to newark ford again on 4/18/16 and they said they had to upgrade the software.i asked if was safe to drive and they said "absolutely", they don't see any problem with the car.on 4/21, the car again suddenly stopped while driving 50mph.the same message"stop safely now" appeared.please see attached photos of the last two times this happened.i called ford corporate office and they said if the mechanics said the car was safe to drive, it was safe to drive.i said i don't feel safe since this keeps happening and they obviously don't know what is wrong.he said if you don't feel safe, you don't have to drive the car.i told him that is not a good solution as i am paying ford to lease the car and need transportation.he said there is nothing ford can do, it has to go through the state, ford is not going to do anything for me. How can i feel safe driving a car that might suddenly stop at any time?? i drive 50 miles each way to work on the freeway.i am extremely scared that this problem is going to cause me to get in a bad accident.why doesn't ford accept responsibility for this car and the extremely unsafe issues?

3 miles after leaving the parking lot with my mom and 2 kids in the car the "stop safely now" warning flashed and the car lost power. I found similar complaint 10512459.i had to pull over in the bike lane, turn off the car and restart it until power war restored. Same thing happened next day right after leaving home. Now i am afraid to go out on the highway or on narrow country roads with this car.

Vehicle subject to customer satisfaction program 15n03 and 16b02.after two repairs for random loss of motive power, with two replacements of high-voltage wire harness, car continues to display "stop safely now" warning on dash and loss of motive power.obviously a safety hazard as car has loss power in traffic several times, fortunately without injuries or damge. I am returning vehicle to dealership for third time today for same issue.first repair was in beginning of november, 2015 and second repair was done at the end of april 2016.

Stop safely now error message appears when trying to start the car, often.the error disables the car.sometimes the car will work immediately after restarting and sometimes i just have to try again later in the day after finding alternative modes of transportation for the time being.most often occurs when conditions or damp like early morning or following rain.

I leased 2014 ford focus electric in early october 2014, now it has 1082 miles on odometer.this incident happened after about month after owning the car, my daughter reversed the car out of drive way into the road. I was with her on the passenger seat. On changing the gear to "d" it lost power. I also verified to make sure car was in drive mode (green arrow was on). No response on pressing accelerator. No other messages on the dash board. Turned off and turned on again after a few seconds, car worked fine.

19k miles and 2 years into having this car -- "stop safely now" shows up with a red triangle on the dashboard and the car suddenly loses power while driving. It happened to me on freeway with kids on board and was very scary. Ford would not help. My car is not on recall list though this is exact same issue reported on nhtsa website about this car. Dealer is super busy and i don't expect my car to be looked at for days. Its really frustrating to be held hostage on this, being stuck with no car to commute to my work without absolutely any fault of mine.

I did the update to the tcm but did not fix nothing my trans still messes up and around same time it started steering is getting stuck may be stearing pump ford will not help at all iv only owned car for a year soon as i got to 60000 miles it stared hesitate jerking i did update like it said 2 do it worked for like a hour then same problems but it got worse it's unsafe to drive and ford wants alot of money just to check it out again then i can barrely controle my car with the stearing wheel getting stuck and no 1 can figure out what's wrong

While braking, the "stop safely now" message appears and once stopped, the car loses all motive power.occurred first in nov 2015 and dealer replaced wiring harness.problem recurred in oct. 2016 and dealer performed recall tsb.problem recurred a 3rd time in nov 2016 and dealer was able to replicate failure while in for service."repair" implemented did not resolve the problem as the car had 4th incident while driving off the dealer lot.dealer currently has the car and is in communication with ford.

Vehicle lost power suddenly with a warning "stop safely now". Since the speed was low and there wasn't anybody behind me, i was able to marginally pull over from the road. Tried to power cycle several times and the error message went away. Started to roll and the message popped back again and regenerative braking stopped the car immediately. Tried 3 times and every time i started to move the error message will kick in and stall. The car is at the dealer and they are taking a look at it. My wife who was driving the car doesn't want to drive it anymore because she fears if this happens on a freeway carpool lane traveling at 65mph there is going to be a pileup.

I was backing out of my driveway in reverse when i received a "stop safely now" warning from the car. The car completely shut down power to the drivetrain and i was stalled in the middle of the road and unable to move. Luckily this was on a quiet street but if this happens on the freeway it could have been catastrophic.

The vehicle has reported "stop safely now" and doesn't start. Luckily the car is parked in the garage. This is the second time of happening without any further diagnostic details or warning. Last time this happened in the middle of the road while driving and shut the power to the wheels completely.

The vehicle kicks forward during braking.it feels like this happens after a full charge the first time that the regenerative braking mechanism turns on.i have also experienced a strong kick when braking and going over a bumps, such as the bumps that are on lane dividers.

The contact owns a 2014 ford focus electric. The contact stated that the vehicle shuttered and shook without warning. The vehicle was taken to willow book ford (7301 kingery highway, willowbrook, il) where it was diagnosed that the transmission was defective and the clutch assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,744.

I was stopped at a light in a traffic jam. Worried that i would run out electricity, i shut off thecar. When i tried to proceed, the car would not move, and a warning of "safely stop now" illuminated on the dash. I tried "restarting" the car several times. The car would seem to "start," but would not move forward -- as if the gear would not engage. After several minutes, and with a policeman leaning into the window barking suggestions, the car started and proceeded.perhaps, when i stopped trying to start the car, the car wholly powered-off. Essentially "power cycling" the car.

Transmission would not go after sitting at red light a light came on saying transmission default

While driving in normal traffic, the vehicle showed a "stop safely now" warning and then lost all power. Had to push the car out of traffic because of loss of power. Power steering and brakes also stopped functioning. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership.

The car stalled with the big triangle "stop to safety" flashing. .it started stalling at every stop signs and signals.this happened several times while the kids were in the car and there was no way to pull to safety.this resulted in several traffic back ups.the incident repeated every day and finally the car was taken to the dealer on june 16.this is the second time the same incident is taking place.the first time it happened was in dec, 2014.as of this date of complaint, the dealer has not returned the car.

My steering locked up when i pulled away from my house, but i originally thought it was just the unusually cold morning. While the car was still driveable, it was extremely difficult, especially during turns. When i took my car in, i was told the entire rack and pinion steering had to be replaced, which costs around $2,000. This problem, caused by a sensor that cannot be replaced on its own but instead must have the entire steering replaced, has been noted by ford as a reoccurring problem to the point that memos were sent to dealers telling them to expect cars at around 50,000 miles to come in with this problem. My car is at 52,000 miles.

During driving in the rain and the car had the "stop safely" light come on and it stalled in the middle of the road.i had my kids with me and traffic behind me when this happened.this happened twice in a matter of couple of hours.it again happened on december 3, as i braked at a red light.

When i first bought the car i had issues with the steering wheel they took care of the problems so recently my steering wheel acting up again making noises and just yesterday it say steering loss safely stop so i check online there been recalls onsteering issues luckily it happen when i park or i would of been in a serious crash

Windshield wipers will stop in the middle of the windshield when turned on. This condition occurs regardless of speed setting or the intermittent setting. This condition occurs regardless of moving or stationary, speed of motion, intensity of rain or other factors. This has happened every single time that i have used the windshield wipers.
