The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While driving 25 mph the contact crashed head on into another vehicle after the other vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign. The air bag warning light remained illuminated prior to the crash. The air bags failed to deploy. The police advised the contact that due to the impact the air bags should have deployed. The fire department had to force the door open in order to remove the contact from the vehicle. The contact advised the dealer that the air bag light was illuminated and the dealer stated that was a sign that the air bag was not functioning; however, the air bag light was also illuminated when the vehicle was purchased. The contact advised the police and the dealer that she thought the air bag light was suppose to remain on to indicate that it was functioningproperly. The dealer advised the contact to call them regarding the air bag failure after she spoke to the manufacturer and the body damage was repaired. The vehicle was being repaired. The contact was injured and continued to experience constant pain. The other driver in the vehicle that caused the crash was also injured. The contact required immediate medical attention. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 98,000.

Side air bags failed to deploy after side impact. Only steering wheel air bag deployed.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While waiting at a traffic light, a vehicle traveling approximately 40 mph crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. As a result, the contact's vehicle crashed into the rear of a third vehicle. The vehicle was destroyed and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact suffered contusions to the abdomen and a left shoulder injury, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the air bag failure. The failure mileage was 46,000. Updated 12/22/14*ljupdated 01/20/15

Got in my car and when i started the vehicle the air bag light along with the traction control indicator light came on, took it to a dealer to see what the issue was and was told it is the restraint control module and to replace it will cost 900.00. This is obviously a faulty part and should be covered as it directly controls the sir bags and the seat belts. So because i do not have 900.00 laying around i g=have to hope i am not in a collision until i can come up with the ridiculous amount of money to replace a plug in module that costs less than 100.00 to manufacture.

We were involved in an accident where a jeep was thrown into the front of our vehicle by a ford f-150, totaling our vehicle, and our airbags did not deploy, none of them.we were at a stop sign and all walked away from the accident, but the police, fire department, and insurance adjuster all said something was wrong for the metal ibeam behind the bumper to be crushed into the radiator and for our airbags to not deploy.the insurance adjuster had already deemed our flex as a total loss but mentioned that had we repaired the vehicle we would need to investigate further why the airbags malfunctioned and have it fixed.we would still like to investigate to understand why this happened and to ensure this was an isolated incident or that a recall is issued before someone is seriously injured or killed due to this safety feature malfunction happens to someone else.

On march 11th, the ford flex collided at an intersection when an expedition turned unsafely left in front of the west bound flex.although the air bags inflated, they quickly deflated because of two large holes. See the photos.the driver of the vehicle was wearing his seat- belt but continues to experience chest pain.

After work on the vehicle at two ford authorized dealership facilities for issues not related to the air bags, the air bag light in the instrument cluster came on and has stayed on since.i had the code read since then and it comes back as an open circuit in the rh front air bag.i realize that the subject vehicle is out of warranty but as a former vehicle electrical engineer a ford i presume that an inoperative rh front air bag system is dangerous to the driving of the vehicle going forward and would hope that nhtsa would protect me from the fact that ford's own recall site is telling me there is no issue. The vehicle has never been in an accident, and any issue with the air bag system must be with the design and/or the manufacturing of the respective parts.

Just got my vehicle couple weeks ago the driver seat and pedal moving all controls on driver side stopped working out of the blue mirrors stopped working also

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While driving at any speed, the vehicle shut down abruptly and all of the instrument panel gauges failed. The vehicle ran out of fuel without warning. The contact stated that the fuel gauge displayed 62 miles before empty prior to the failure. The issue occurred numerous times. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

As indicated by a number of flex owners, my flex simply died in the middle of the freeway going 70 mph.no warning - lights on dash went on, lost all power including power steering. After muscling the car to the shoulder, putting in park and sitting for a few minutes, it started back up. Took to dealer who said they could find nothing wrong.extremely dangerous.i was almost rear ended.how many different people need to be affected by this problem before ford and nhtsa take action.

2010 ford flex 20000 miles. While driving @40miles per hour , check engine light came on and car stalled. Gas accelerator was inoperable. Operator was barely able to drive into a side of the road and bring car to a complete stop without any incident. The check engine light disappeared. This is the 1st occurrence, the vehicle was able to be started back up. Therefore, vehicle was taken to the dealership warrenton va on 05//03/11 also had incident with throttle body causing to car to lurch forward and accelerate erratically replaced by dealership approx february 2011 and have had one additional occurrence since replacement of throttlebody.

Intermittent electrical failure of the advance trak traction control system causes the vehicle to unexpectedly pull to the left or to the right while under acceleration on vehicle speeds above 20 mph without indication from the tell-tale to the operator to indicate there is a problem or intermittent failure of the traction control system.this unexpected pull to the left or right is violent enough to cause the vehicle to veer across the centerline of a lane, potentially causing a risk to oncoming traffic and well as the operator of the vehicle to become involved in a crash.the failure will continue to occur intermittently without indication to the driver until the event occurs frequently enough during an ignition cycle to trigger the tell-tale to indicate a failure of the advance trak system, but this tell-tale on the dash only stays lit during the current ignition cycle and will not be present on the next ignition cycle, again failing to indicate the intermittent failure of the advance trak traction control system via the warning light tell-tale on the dashboard.

2010 ford flex 2000 miles.while driving @ 35 miles per hour , check engine light came on and car stalled. Gas accelerator was inoperable. Operator was able to drive into a parking lot close by and bring car to a complete stop without any incident. Car turned on after the 5th attempt. The check engine light disappeared. The 1st occurrence, the vehicle was able to be started right away. This 2nd occurrence it took awhile.therefore, vehicle was taken to the dealership ( north park lincoln ford in san antonio, tx )on 06/09/10 and obd came back with no diagnostic codes.dealership stated that ford engineer was on property and could not find the solution to the problem.. Car is still at the dealership and they have no idea what to do.

I was driving at low speed, around 10 to 15 mph, getting ready to make a turn and the car died. It was overcast and the lights were on. The whole dash went black and i had no power steering or brakes. I pulled into a parking lot without someone hitting me. After stopping, i put the car in park and was able to restart and drive home. Today, the day after the car died, i called my dealer. He stated they cannot repair it if the issue can't be duplicated. The car has 103,00 miles and this is the first time it has ever happened. We are afraid to drive the car now since we narrowly averted an accident yesterday. I went on the ford flex forum and this seems to be a common problem.

When i drive my vehicle & apply the brake, the brake pedal vibrates & the rpms increase and the vehicle stalls out. When my heat is on high whether vents or the floor, and apply the brake while driving, the brake pedal vibrates and the rpms increase and the vehicle stalls out.

Accelerating on interstate ramp, vehicle stalled and shut off. It would not stay running. It sputters and dies after cranking. We had aaa tow it off the roadside after 90 minutes waiting.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. The contact stated that the blower for the heating and air conditioning failed on the passenger side of the vehicle. The heating and air conditioning did not work on the entire passenger side of the vehicle. When the failure occurred, the vent blew hot air and one side blew cold air. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the blower motor for the air conditioning and heating failed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000.

Original owner 2010 ford flex, ecoboost engine: sudden loss of engine power with shuddering and stall in fast lane; up hill while passing at speed, 60mph to 20mph in seconds causing near collision from behind. Engine would not recover, 20mph in fast lane with semi's and speeding traffic, no pull-off area. Clear dry day, temperature around 55 degree. Not the first time engine shuddering experienced, but the most dangerous. Always occurs during acceleration (pulling out in traffic or passing, etc.). Began to notice loss of power, whining and grinding noises from turbos about two weeks ago; subsequent catastrophic failure of both turbo chargers with billowing black smoke and oil dripping from exhausts. 38k miles, garage kept, all service points maintained, driven like grandmother since new. Fist the rear brakes locked up while driving at 18k miles, now engine failure at 38k. Do something ntsb before these vehicles kill someone!

2010 ford flex ecoboost we had several incidents where there was a loss of power and shaking upon acceleration. The dealerships were unable to replicate or determine any problems.the most significant incident occurred when accelerating from a toll booth. The car engine lost significant power and died several times. The result after this incident was a dead engine that needed to be completely replaced.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While driving at an unknown speed, the turbos failed and caused oil to burn through the motor. The failure created an excessive amount of smoke to come through the exhaust pipes. Hubler ford in shelbyville, indiana was made aware of the recall and stated that the parts were unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While driving various speeds, the turbos failed on the vehicle. The contact stated that the turbos were replaced on the vehicle five times within one year, along with the catalytic converter and some sensors. The contact stated that black smoke exited from the exhaust pipes in the rear of the vehicle when the turbos failed. Pacifica ford in philadelphia, pennsylvania was made aware of the failure and repaired the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

While waiting at a light in my 2010 ford flex the engine was idling rough, after the signal turned green the power seemed low and sluggish as i accelerated. When i was at about 45 mph the engine power returned and seemed more normal, suddenly without notice the engine turned off and all dash lights illuminated. I was able to pull into a drive way but was very hard as there was no power steering. I was able to coast to a stop safely. Once stopped there was a very strong smell of coolant. I opened the hood and found a large amount of coolant on right side of engine. My car was towed to my home to figure out what the issue could be. On further inspection it is suspected that the water pump failed which is internal to the timing chain cover and therefore dumped a large amount of coolant into the crankcase which then contaminated the engine oil and over filled the oil pan. I was fortunate that this occurred on a city street and not on the freeway as this could have caused a major accident. On further research i have found this has occurred many times. The engine in question is the cyclone engine and is fords latest v6 family of gasoline engines introduced in 2006, and is known as the duratec 35 which displaces 3.5 l, the duratec 37 which displaces 3.7l and the ecoboost 35 which is a twin turbo charged variant of the duratec 35, these engines are installed in the following vehicles, 2007'present ford edge, 2010'2012 ford fusion sport, 2011'present ford mustang, 2009'present ford flex, 2010'present ford taurus sho, 2013'present police interceptor sedan, 2011'present ford explorer, 2013'present ford police interceptor utility, 2011'present ford f-150, 2015'present ford expedition/expedition el, 2014'present ford transit, 2015'present lincoln navigator/navigator l, 2010'present lincoln mks, 2010'present lincoln mkt, 2007'present lincoln mkx, 2007'present mazda cx-9(mzi).

While driving on a highway during rush hour traffic, as the traffic slowed down, and i pressed the brake, the engine shut completely down. First the battery light came on and then all lights within the speedometer cluster came on. Traffic began to pick back up and i was going up hill, yet i was merely coasting at thespeed i was before i stopped and slowing down. Luckily the traffic did not come to a complete stop because i would have been sitting in the middle of the road. I am not exactly sure what the speed was because i was more concerned with what i should do. I was in the middle lane and not able to get over. With my wife and two toddlers in the car, i thought quickly and put the car in neutral and attempted to restart the car, it worked, and i was able to place the car in drive without even making a traffic backup. All this happen so fast. I dropped everyone off and took it to a ford authorized dealer who so far has told me that there is nothing they can do because there are no errors in the computer and they cannot duplicate the error. They told me "i" would have to drive it more to get a better understanding of what is going on. So in order for ford to do something about this error, (that i have found all over the web (engine shutting down) regarding the ford flex), more with the 2009 models; i have to get in a car accident because my car shut down in the middle of traffic. (this is my interpretation of what the dealership told me). That is the only way i can get ford to look at the problem seriously. This is the second incident. The first time i thought it was a fluke, but i was coming to a stop the first time.the car started again so i thought it was a fluke.

The engine shut down during a long-distance drive returning from a vacation.the car was towed to a ford dealership.the techs at the dealership determined that the engine failed due to a faulty (leaking) water pump.this water pump is inside the engine block.thus, the leak caused corruption of other parts of the engine and complete engine failure.this problem with the internal water pump has been the subject of a recall for other ford models, but not the ford flex.the national database of automotive technicians, identifix, reports leaking internal water pumps to be the number 1 problem with the flex.here are the specifics of what happened:we had been driving for approximately 6 hours.i was at cruising speed of 75 mph.as i approached lubbock tx, the temperature warning light came on and the temperature gauge had pegged all the way to 'hot'.i reduced speed and drove to the next exit (approximately 1-2 min away). As i exited the freeway, the engine light came on, and moments later the battery light came on.at that point, i lost power steering and the engine shut down.we were able to push the car into a parking lot on the frontage road.this incident is consistent with the claims that have led to the safety recall for other ford models:escape suvs from the 2014 model year, plus the 2014 and 2015 compact fiesta st, the 2013 and 2014 fusion midsize car and the 2013 through 2015 transit connect small van (obtained from usa today, 1/3/2018).my insurance will not cover the damage which has resulted in the car being "totalled".this is a known problem for ford, and i believe my car should be covered under the recently announced safety recall.this problem in the ford flex has been discussed for years dating back to at least 2008 (https://www.fordflex.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17392)

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. The contact stated while stopped at a stop sign the vehicle became inoperable. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated the water pump failed which flooded the engine. The vehicle was taken to planet ford located at (20403 i-45, spring, tx 77388 281-719-3700) and the contact was informed that a diagnostic test could not be scheduled for 6-8 weeks. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 192,000.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex.the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a misfire on cylinder number 3 and 2 and that the fuel injector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure recurred while driving approximately 50 mph. The vehicle restarted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.

Piston rings failed at 103,000 miles. Total loss of compression and billowing white smoke produced from the exhaust. Always serviced regularly.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated as the vehicle began to vibrate violently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The trouble code detectedthat cylinder number 4 had failed without compression and also misfired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they informed the contact that there was not a recall related to the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 67,462.

While merging onto a highway the engine suddenly lost power and began shuttering/vibrating badly.this loss of power nearly caused a severe accident as the sudden slow down caused cars behind us to take evasive action.the check engine light illuminated immediately.we drove the car to the dealership per instructions from the service rep.the vehicle has the 3.5l ecoboost engine.the service tech first said an ignition coil went bad and replaced it, only to discover that it did not fix the problem.they did a cylinder compression test and were loosing compression in one cylinder.the engine had to be disassembled to diagnose the problem.the service tech found the cylinder rings had failed in one cylinder and now has to replace the whole engine at a cost of $7,800.the engine only has 55,000 miles on it!there were no warning indicators that anything was wrong with the engine, and it has been routinely serviced.ford is unwilling to help in any way with the repairs as the vehicle is out of warranty.

Total motor failure when driving! transmission frequently slips. Motor had to be replaced. When pressure exhaust for ecoboost is redirected to cylinder 3 and 5 the head gasket fails allowing water to enter the head of motor which them steam fries the cylinders. This is very common in the 2010 flex with ecboost and need to be recalled asap!motors up to 100,000. Mine had 74000 when failure occurred.

Major engine failure while driving 45mph. Engine has 108,000 miles. Now engine needs to be replaced. Engine just shut off while driving in traffic on us hwy 41 in land o lake fl, repair estimated at $6500.

Eco boost engine stall due to condensation of air from the cold air compressorin the turbo chargerfor the engine. Have had car serviced several times and dealer or mechanic can not resolveproblem. Happen in freeway at high speed but has also happened in the street at 20 - 30 mph

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While driving 30 mph, the contact heard a popping noise coming from the vehicle and the air conditioning began to blow out hot air. The contact also noticed that the vehicle began to lose power, overheat, and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact drove to ken garff west valley ford (4091 w 3500 s, west valley city, ut 84120, 801- 559-0314) where it was diagnosed that the water pump failed and caused the vehicle to overheat. The contact stated that the entire engine was ruined due to the failure and was informed that an engine replacement would cost approximately $8,000. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 178,000. The vin was unknown.

V6 ecoboost engine, has same acceleration / stalling symptoms as the f150 ecoboost happens several time a week, dealer was unable to help when it was under warranty.started within months of purchase (new) in 2010.http://www.latimes.com/news/la-fi-hy-ford-f150-ecoboost-investigation-20130526,0,2968753.story.

Vehicle bogs down during acceleration. No trouble codes shown. Not speed specific. Mpg has dropped significantly, from 24 highway mpg, to 14 highway mpg. Just had transfer case replaced. Feels as if the vehicle is fighting itself again.

Vehicle was turning off of a state highway into a school entrance.without warning (no warning lights on dash) engine stopped running.due to engine shut down all auxiliary systems lost power.vehicle was making a left turn into a school entrance when engine turned off.in the middle of the turn the loss of power steering and power brakes made negotiating the turn unsafe.the operator was unable to keep the vehicle on the paved entrance and ended up off the should and into the grass.fortunately there were no pedestrians or obstacles.failure could cause a safety issue at highway speed due to potential for rear ending due to loss of power.this engine failure is due to ford 3.5 duratec internal water pump design.when the water pump seals fail, all coolant is contained in the motor and collected in the oil pan.by collecting the coolant in the oil pan it caused a p0016 code and the engine to shut off.their was no warning of this.the car was driven 3.5hrs the previous day with no issues or warning lights.ford is unwilling to recognize the problem.i filed claims with ford customer service #11792792 and cas-11876774 on this issue.repair bill was $4100 to replace the motor with a similar used motor.the vehicle repair was just completed yesterday and i still feel unsafe and uncomfortable knowing the same potential for engine failure exists.it is both a safety concern and an financial concern.their are many documented cases of this happening on fordflex.net (15 cases) also on fordtaurus.net.please google duratec 3.5 water pump failure.these forums document other nhtsa claims filed for exact reasons.

Water pump leaking into engine oil, what should be a $500 at most repair is good to require replacement of the engine because of poor water pump design.

When i drive my vehicle & apply the brake, the brake pedal vibrates & the rpms increase and the vehicle stalls out. When my heat is on high whether vents or the floor, and apply the brake while driving, the brake pedal vibrates and the rpms increase and the vehicle stalls out.

2010 ford flex with duratec 3.5l engine - sudden water pump failure causes coolant to flood the engine, which can cause the engine to overheat and cut off while driving, without warning.this happened to me while driving to work.luckily i was able to pull off the road safely.there are many others with this engine who have had this problem, because the water pump is inside the engine-- see e.g. Http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/flex/water-pump-problems.php and https://www.ktmc.com/ford-lincoln-water-pump-engine-failure .

We have replaced the turbos in or ford flex ecoboost 5 times within 2.5 years!! the front and rear turbos both just went again within one month of each other!! we were finally told by a lincoln mechanic the issue is a bad/faulty oil seperator made by ford. It is pushing too much oil into the turbos causing them to literally blow up!! smoke everywhere and car is undrivable. I have small children and this is completely unsafe and dangerous!!

2010 ford flex.consumer writes in regards to vehicle throttle problems.the consumer stated the vehicle would accelerate on its own, which then caused the vehicle to go into safe mode. The vehicle immediately slowed down and would not go above 10 mph or it shut off completely.ford informed the consumer, the fix would cost $550.

Was trying to accelerate around a carand loss all power and check engine light immediately started flashing and the engine started misfiring and loss all power and now the ford dealer says that i need a new engine.

Engine stalls out, while driving the car around town.has occurred twice, separated by a few weeks.no warning, or engine trouble or indicator lights prior or after the event.occurs while driving a low to moderate speed both times, about 30 mph.car can be restarted immediately after and drives fine.have had mechanics check fuel and air sensors and lines and find no obvious defects.other ford flex owners report similar problem since 2009.rumor is that replacing the throttle body corrects the issue.

After owning the new vehicle for three months it started randomly slipping into neutral.at first, it did this when accelerating from a stop (which is very dangerous in busy intersections, left turns and merging).it now does it then and in addition at highway speeds - 50+.it also at times has engine surges when at a complete stop.it also surges and hesitates at 45mph to highway speeds, at times causing such a speed variance that it will shut cruise control off, slip into neutral and rapidly decelerate before correcting itself.there have been 5 repair attempts at a ford dealership.they have not been able to determine the problem.they sent it home with me until it does it "all the time" or breaks down.

Heater blows cool air when in idle or parked.

Engine shuts down on a rolling stop, first incident rolling stop on a stop and go trafficsecond incident rolling stop to a stop lightthird incidentslowing down to make a turn.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. No warning indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine air filters needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of this issue. The failure mileage was 52,843. The vin was unavailable.

2010 ford flex 2000 miles.while driving @ 35 miles per hour , check engine light came on and car stalled. Gas accelerator was inoperable. Going into a turn at approx. 25 mph and my ford flex shut off.lost power steering and power brakes.put it in neutral and restarted.have approx. 11,500 miles on the car.this is the only time this has occurred.

My 2010 ford flex station wagon has serious problems with allowing exhaust fumes to enter the rear of the vehicle when accelerating onto the highway, when passing a car or with all of the windows open. These vents sense the balance in pressure and open when they should not. I have taken my car to two different ford dealerships for the same problems. Four separate times the service managers and mechanics have told me that this is new problem and i am the only one they have heard of with this exhaust leaking into the vehicle. Currently there is no solution or repair they can do to correct this problem. There are 2 vents behind the rear bumper of that allow the cabin to equalize pressure when the doors close. These vents do not work correctly allowing the exhaust fumes to enter the vehicle.the ford dealership had received the replacement parts. They called and i brought the vehicle in. The vehicle sat for 24 hours and i was called and told to go rent a vehicle because of a mechanic delay. Before i got home my vehicle was stolen from the dealership. The dealership told me they have never had a vehicle stolen from the lot. Within two days of talking to friends and family i found another ford flex had been stolen from the same dealership. This vehicle had the same three recurring problems as my vehicle. A third vehicle has similar problems and has been in eight times for the exhaust repairs.the air conditioning system and the transmission also have been serviced for different problems on four different occasions and still the problems keep recurring.this is a serious health issue for my family. I am hiring an attorney to open a class action suit for damages against my family.

Blue flashing light has come on left side drivers side above the emergency brake underside of the dash. Stays on even after car is turned off.

Post re: flex died while driving down the roadthurs jun 11, 2009 6:07 pmthe same thing happened to my mom when she was driving hers through a parking lot, it just stalled out! she took it to the dealer the same day and they said they didn't find anything wrong with it. This was about a month ago and since then it has not happened again. I hope you have better luck with your dealer finding the problem. !@#$%!!!!!!!! it happened to me today!!!!!!! i was on my way to a meeting this morning and as i was going into a curve the car died!!! kaput! dead! no brakes, no power steering!!!! thank god there was no oncoming traffic because i went straight into the other lane. And, thank goodness i had read this post a while ago so i knew immediately what had happened. I twisted the steering wheel hard to the right and rolled the car to the side of the street. Put it in park and restarted it. It started like nothing. I called my sa who obviously suggested i bring the car over right away, which i did. I also told him about this post and richmondflex's note on the tsb (thanks bud!). Since i had to leave the car, i'm also having them look at the brake problem, which is back. That was a scary moment this morning!!!! post re: flex died while driving down the roadfri jun 12, 2009 3:23 pmin another post i thought our steering locked up, but after talking to my wife, the same stall happened to us (long story on the actual event). Totally freaked her out to the point she wouldn't drive the car. I looked up on line to see if the car had any tsbs and it stated we didn't. I still took it to the dealer (not the one we bought it from) and had them look it up and lo and behold there it was. They say the issue occurs at less than 10 mph. They reprogrammed the computer (it took 45 minutes) and said i should be good to go. For those that just had it happen or have yet to have it happen, go to your dealer, if nothing else for the peace of mind. My car has 2k miles on it.

This is a huge safety issue we have run out of gas on the freeway two times the gauge will say 70 miles to empty and 30 seconds later goes to zero the car runs out if gas in the car shut down on the freeway with my children in the car i have also run out of gas on the street i took it and pay $200 to a mechanic who is not able to fix it the ford dealer said they can't figure out what's wrong with it but recommended a $700 fuel sending unit however they were unsure if this would fix the problem this is a major safety issue a time hassle and very stressful on a four-year-old car that i've taken very good care of. When this happens and i go to fill up the tank the gas tank isn't actually empty even though it says it is and the car shuts down.

Sudden repeated intermittent stalls at highway speed without warning

Purchased a pre-certified 2010 ford flex at vermont dealership 3.07.2014 with a premium extended warranty plan.travel between vermont and new york.approximately april /may 2017 noticed powerful smell of gasoline after filling vehicle, couldn't close garage due to smell and parked away from others.garage replaced rotted fill neck yoke 5.12.2017.problem seemed to abate but persisted , now in garage and extensive work to drop gas tank where the metal flange connecting fuel line and pump to the tank is totally corroded.there is a recall on other ford vehicles for saltcorrosionfrom road salt to the fuel tank causing dangerous leaks.i could have blown up andmy home from this !!that recall targets northern states such as the one i purchased my car including vermont and new york recall number 15s3. No fire as a) i was very lucky b) it's in the garage with a huge bill.

Gas tank will not fill properly, when called dealer, was told there are "probably spiders in the gas tank, they get into the filter and build webs and cause this problem, will cost you $275.00 for us to check, not covered by warranty, this happens often with the capless gas tanks".

The car's fuel gauge will suddenly drop to empty and the car will run out of fuel. By doing some research this is a very common problem with ford flex and it is very dangerous.this has happened multiple times and the most recent was this weekend when my wife was driving on the interstate and it died in traffic.very dangerous

Accelerating on interstate ramp, vehicle stalled and shut off. It would not stay running. It sputters and dies after cranking. We had aaa tow it off the roadside after 90 minutes waiting.

My wife and i were preparing to pull into a parking space, outside of an applebee's restaurant.when shetapped on the gas paddle to pull into the parking space, the vehicle lunged forward extremely fast, causing the vehicle to jump the curb.here immediate reaction was pressing the brake, but the vehicle did not stop until it crashed into the restaurant.thankfully there were not any civilians walking in front of the vehicle.the only person that was injured is my wife.the landscape and the building was damaged; along with our vehicle.over $7,500 dollars worth of damage to the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. The contact attempted to fill the fuel tank when he overflow valve failed. The contact also mentioned that sporadically, the valve would not allow the fuel tank to be filled to capacity and when attemtping to fill the tank, it would often take approximatley 30 minutes to fill. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 66,000.

Gas tank leaks at the seam.

Leaky fuel tank.strong smell of leaky fuel.worried that vehicle might catch fire.took it into my local oil change place and they could not find leak.i can see a puddle of fuel on my driveway - about 2-3 feet round.believe fuel tank has corroded.but i am told the tank is made of plastic. Looked up 2 other nhtsa complaints with similar failure complaints. Vehicle has 152,000 miles.

2010 ford flex limited ecoboost awd. Electrical power steering. Intermittent loss of power steering with no lights, notifications, or warning. Fixed short term by turning car off and back on again. Very dangerous at low speeds, especially with the weight of the vehicle and size of the tires, specifically for smaller people. Recall from ford for 2011, will not help at all with a 2010 flex. Has already caused one accident in a parking lot resulting in damage to rear driver side quarter panel after steering wheel became stuck while reversing. Fuel pump also not engaging, resulting in stalls and the car not starting (no ticks, humming, buzzing, lights and radio work). Overall, a very dangerous combination if they were to occur simultaneously, especially at speed. Car was purchased around 1 1/2- 2 months ago. Both issues are becoming more and more frequent.

I have a 5-month old, 2010 ford flex limited, and i have a complaint about the auto rear hatch not being safe.specifically, when in automatic mode-closing, the safety reverse feature is not sensitive enough to reverse the door's closing appropriately.the only thing that gets the hatch to "bounce back" or reverse up is when something like a stationary and hard object (like an adult's shoulder when standing still) is in the way.literally, when the rear hatch is lowering, you can grab it and try to pull it back, and it does not stop.i have turned off the automatic feature because i fear for my own safety and that of my two boys -- 9 and 12.my neighbors have different vehicles with a similar automatic rear hatch "bounce back" feature, and when i looked at how they functioned, i realized there was something wrong.they all stopped and reversed direction at any kind of bump.when i raised this issue with the dealer, they tested it and compared it to the other flexes on the lot. They said they all worked the same way.but that means they all are flawed then. I asked if they could adjust the sensitivity of the bounce back feature, but they said they could not.that answer is no answer when i have to turn off the automatic rear hatch feature to keep everyone safe.it should be more sensitive to object in the way, like a hand, finger, head, etc, and reverse immediately upon impacting the object. The only way i could get it to stop was to stand directly under it and have it come down on my shoulder as i was standing still, and that was a hard push down on my shoulder.that scenario is not realistic. Little hands (and big ones), as well as other body parts, can get in the way.this needs to be fixed so i can enjoy the auto feature i paid for without hurting anyone.

Transmission and power transfer unit (ptu).the transmission has been shifting awkwardly since 10,000 miles.have been to the dealer numerous times and they are unable to diagnose.a mechanic at larry h. Miller ford, in lakewood co, recently told me the transmission might or should be recalled in the future.at 87,506 miles the ptu went out and had to be replaced at a cost of $1,692.26.the ptu came originally without a drain plug and was impossible to service.replacement ptu does have a drain pug.i believe both the transmission and ptu are defective designs and need to be recalled.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While the vehicle was at the dealer for routine maintenance, the vehicle exhibited a transmission fluid leak. The dealer inspected the vehicle and advised that the transmission transfer case be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 72,000.

Vehicle was in motion 45+ mph or so driven on a decline long winding road.vehicle shifted into first gear from much higher gear causing rapid deceleration and almost rear end collision, pulled in rest area vehicle would not respond to gear select when stopped and went into neutral.turned off vehicle and put into park let sit and restarted trans worked noticeable thunk when putting into reverse after long driving now, vehicle is all wheel drive.

Sudden leaking ptu caused failure and fluid to catch fire while driving 40 mph when exposed to exhaust directly under unit . Damage also resulted in transmission housing damage and severe powertrain failure. Ford had two tbs to replace ptu however not issued any recall.

Power take off unit or power transfer unit started making a loud whining sound starting at 40 mph. Now being told the unit must be replaced.looking online and seems to be an issue with the majority of for flex and ford edge.

Sitting at red light..foot on brake...car lurched forward almost hitting car in front. This has happened two times. Third time march 29, 2013 car was coasting about 2-5 miles an hour...sudden acceleration so car lurched forward.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex.the contact stated that the vehicle was violently jerking intermittently.the dealer made four attempts to duplicate the failure.the manufacturer was aware of the failure.no repairs were performed.the current mileage was 20,000.the approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

2010 ford flex second row passenger center seat belt retractor stuck. Child released stuck seat belt, lower center seat which is now also in a stuck position. No way to get to retractor or raise seat.

60/40 seat larger seat (60) will not fold down

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. The contact stated that the rear passenger seat failed to stayed latch down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the cuddle catch that holds the seat in place was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

The driver's side seat controls have stopped working in my 2010 ford flex, leaving my seat without the ability to move (forward, backward, up or down) to meet the needs of different drivers. The first incident was discovered in summer 2013 - eliminating the ability for my wife/co-owner to regularly drive the car.my local ford dealership was good to work with when i brought in the car to be fixed.unfortunately - the fix did not work - nor did the 2 additional times i brought the car in to be repaired for the same issue.most recently, in january 2014, the seat controls worked momentarily and then ceased working.to accommodate other drivers including my wife, we must place pillows behind the driver to enable her to reach the pedals.i am particularly concerned about my children's safety - when my wife must drive the flex.unfortunately, we are in a position where we must drive this car, but i would rather avoid putting my family in an unsafe situation.

2010 ford flex 2nd row of seats 40/60. The larger seat has locked into position caused by a cable part that can slip out of place. Seat will not flip up or down. Dealers are charging $700 to fix this cable and plastic part. This has happened 2x since i've owned the car. Here is a youtube link https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oaoymbztc6smany online reports of this problem to other flex owners. Thanks

While driving 30 mph the car simply dies.all lights come on and the car just shuts off.left with no brakes, steering, or control.dealer brought in engineer, after a week with the car dealer cannot replicate problem.ford motor company decides nothing is wrong and force me to take dangerous car back.incident occurred twice in the month of april/may.

When stopping i would feel the car resisting stopping. I thought that the accelerator pedal was sticking. I then realized i was stepping on both the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time with the same foot. The harder i pressed the brake the harder i was pressing the accelerator. This has happened several times before. There is not enough separation between the pedals. There are similar reports from flex owners on the internet.

The caliper broke on the rear passenger side, leaving my brake engaged.had to get new calipers, brake pads, and rotors.the calipers were on back order from ford for 2 weeks.

Heard noise from front brakes, like something was loose when braking. Told that the bolts for the calipers were not correct and this was a known issue. Waited for parts to come in and had replaced. No other issues with front brakes. Just had front replaced at 75,000 miles. Rear brakes i have had in at least every six months to have evaluated or worked on. Heard squealing noise from rear passenger brakes and rotor would get hot. I thought the caliper was freezing. I kept taking it in and was told that it was the metallic pads until finally i stopped in and showed the red hot rotor. Replaced both rear rotors, calipers and pads. Had to replace again after 6 months and then 1 year later. I again thought the calipers were not functioning properly. They "cleaned" my sliders and turned my rotors. Less than 2 months later, i took to my tire dealer for tire rotation and they stated my back passenger caliper was frozen and uneven wear on my pads were noticed. I took to dealer and they denied the calipers were bad. Changed pads and turned rotors again. Pads on each rear wheel had one pad that look like it came brand new out of the box and the other was down to metal.they told me the sliders need to be cleaned on a regular basis as part of the maintenance on the car. I stated where in my owners manual is this and didn't you just do that a month and a half ago? also had to have front passenger wheel bearing replaced twice when calipers were replaced and i hear the noise again with this last issue but they are calling it "tire noise" which is what they told me the other times. Driver side back wheel bearing had to be changed with a caliper issue - they tried to tell me after having the car for a week that it was tire noise. I took to an independent repair shop and they diagnosed immediately the bad bearing. Took back to dealer and they admitted it was the bearing and replaced.

When i drive my vehicle & apply the brake, the brake pedal vibrates & the rpms increase and the vehicle stalls out. When my heat is on high whether vents or the floor, and apply the brake while driving, the brake pedal vibrates and the rpms increase and the vehicle stalls out.

When i press on gas it jerks and feels like its straing to kick up.dragging no gas its pulling. And when i break the peddles push back and make weird noises.it sometimes don't stop .the radio buttons doesn't work none of them.i purchased this vehicle 08/15/2020

I recently experienced a brake failure on our 2010 ford flex.the right rear brake hose failed due to contact with the tire.this resulted in the brake pedal going to the floor and a significant decrease in braking performance.the brake hose failure was the result of improper routing of the brake line that happened when the caliper was replaced.the issue here is that the brake warning light never activated even after the brake pedal went to the floor several times.i have checked the bulb by putting the car in the run position and found that the brake warning light does illuminate at that time.this happened during normal city driving (no heavy traffic, speeds between 0 and 45 mph, stopping at red lights and slowing for turns)

2010 ford flex bad brake issue. I live at high altitude and have a ford flex eco boost that performed flawlessly up until about 21k miles when we had a brake failure, the brakes did not stop the car. The dealer replaced a master brake booster and since that time we intermittently get a hard brake pedal and no matter how hard you push the pedal the car will not stop.there is another person also living at the same altitude about 9,200 feet in summit county co who had the exact same series of events although currently he is down in texas with no issues.a third person in wyoming who is about 6,000 feet is having the same problem. Ford claims there is nothing wrong with the car and have sent two engineers to look at it who have not experienced the hard pedal but the gm at the dealer has, never the less every once in a while especially when first starting out the brake pedal is hard and you have about 10% braking. My wife actually went through a red light for about 20 feet before she could finally stopped she was lucky no car was coming at the time.it only happens at high altitude apparently. Which means that people driving up into the mountains to go skiing or whatever may get an awful surprise if their brakes fail.i have posted under the www.fordflexforum.com and www.fordflex.net where you can see the replies from others with the same problem.as this problem did not occur up until about 21k miles for all three cars i know about there has to be a defective part somewhere. We are reluctant to use the car and are worried about consequences if we were to have an accident.we have reported direct to ford and have a contact with their customer service, the latest advice hire an independent engineer to verify their is an issue. I figured i would try the government.thank you

2010 ford flexfront brakes replaced twice due to grinding and wear.back brake calipers and brakes replaced due to sticking and uneven wear on tires.

Purchase ford flex 2010 model, first complaint occur late january/february 2010, front brakes pads were not working and pulling hard. Return to dealership and they repaired the car, telling me this is an existing problem with three manufacture replacements already. I return in september 2010 with same problem, now i have waited over a week for parts on "back order" hoping this will be a permanent fix. Don't have car, still waiting. My ford motor contact in the complaint dept went on vacation, now i unable to contact anyone to determine the status of my car.

Potential braking failure.dealer acknowledged after second visit that a factory defect caused the front calipers to become loose from the respected backing plates and have enlarged the mounting holes.the front calipers, rotors, and backing plates must be replaced.vehicle is under warranty.

2010 ford flex has been into the dealer three separate times for brake issues. The first time nothing was found and nothing was resolved. The second time was for the tsb to repair the issue that was not found on the first visit. The third time was for rear brakes that had an initial grinding noise that you could also feel in the brake pedal along with the smell of smoke when driven. The dealer charged a $70 diagnostic fee to state the brakes needed to be replaced. This was the obvious reason on why the car was brought to the dealer in the first place. Notonly did the brakes disintegrate but it had also ruined the rotors. In which they are asking for the cost of labor and parts to repair the damage.

2010 ford flex. Consumer writes regarding problem with brakes *tgwthe consumer stated the problem he experienced with the brakes only happened for a short time after the vehicle has been stationary for several hours. The consumer stated the brake pedal was very stiff when the vehicle was first started. Once he began driving, the pedal was so stiff, it felt as though the vehicle was not going to stop, the consumer stated he had to apply the brake very hard and eventually the vehicle stopped. After driving about 3/4 of a mile, the brakes seemed fine. The consumer has been to the dealer on four separate occasions. The first time, the dealer stated a new brake booster was needed which was replaced under warranty.the problem seemed to be fixed initially, but it slowly returned. The consumer returned to the dealer and they confirmed the problem. However, ford later stated they did not have a fix for the problem. An engineer from corporate then came out and tested the vehicle and said there was nothing wrong.

2010 flex limitedin april 2010 i noticed a grinding sound from the front rotors, especially when roads were wet.went to the dealer and was told they had a technical bulletin on a fix for it--for vehicles under 18,000 miles.the vehicle had about 14,000 on it at the time.i don't know what they fixed or tried to fix.later in the summer, it returned, again more pronounced when raining.when reporting it to the dealer, the dealer service rep said that the company was aware of the problem but had not come up with a fix--but it was ok to drive.my wife took it in and reported the problem getting worse.they didn't believe her.i took it in and they believed me.they ordered the parts to repair it.i heard nothing after three weeks, so i stopped by the dealer; oh, they just came in yesterday--seems like their system should be sophisticated enough to contact me when the parts come in, as there was no follow-up to contact me--even though they apparently knew there was a problem.the new parts have been installed and it appears to be fixed--for now.

I am the owner of a 2010 ford flex, vin #[xxx].my vehicle suffers from episodic brake failures. This occurs as the vehicle is first driven off and the engine is cold. Braking power is then reduced to 10% of normal, resulting in alarmingly long stopping distances. Once driven a few miles the brakes resume normal function. The issue surfaced at 20,000 miles in january 2010. The vehicle was serviced under warranty for this problem at least 4 times. This issue has been pinpointed to a probable vacuum loss present only on these vehicles that are driven at altitude above 7000 feet and share the flexes?? ecoboost awd drive train. I live at 9000 ft.the service manager at my local dealership, summit ford of silverthorne colorado, has acknowledged i am not alone with a vehicle experiencing this dangerous mechanical problem but admits to being unable to fix it and has nothing further to offer.to date i have not been involved in a collision. However in the last 12 months i have had a few distressing close calls.ford motor co. Was initially alerted of this situation by phone in april 2010 with a call to their consumer resolution center. My request for help is being ignored by ford motor company. My phone calls are not returned, my emails are ignored, even certified mail is not acknowledged.it has been my desire to work with ford motor company on solving this issue but i have exhausted all avenues. Ford refuses to acknowledge my communications, ford has been alerted to this public safety issue but has obviously chosen to disregard it. I hope alerting this organization will generate some action before an injury occurs.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2010 ford flexfront brakes replaced twice due to grinding and wear.back brake calipers and brakes replaced due to sticking and uneven wear on tires.

Car was exiting route i90 onto a toll exit ramp.power steering failed and car could not be steered at all.initial report from repair shop is that the car's power steer leaked completed out and damaged the rack and pinion steering system.there were no warning lights or other indications that this was occurring until this incident.

I turned my car on to back out of my driveway and had no power steering and on my dash it said power steering fault. This is a ford limited 2010 with ecoboost engine and parking assist. This part has been recalled on every other ford but my year. It is undrivable because the powersteering could gonout at anytime. The part from ford is 2643 plus labor. I only had 119,000 miles on my ford.

Vehicle equipped with epas steering system that has been part of a recall for 2011-2013 ford flex vehicles with the exact same steering system but for some reason does not include 2010 models. Vehicle began having power steering failure upon cold start up in the last few weeks. It would resolve itself in a few seconds. This morning, 8/29/2017, the power steering would not recover and i received a "power steering assist fault" error on my message center screen. After a few minutes, i turned off the car and back on again and the steering worked fine. I turned it off and on yet again and the failure returned. I tried several times and got the failure more times than not. I called ford and was told recall #15s18 did not apply to my vehicle, even though it is the exact same issue with the exact same part as the 2011-2013 vehicles. The vehicle is unsafe to drive.

Vehicle was in motion at 75 mph when the electronic power assist failed. The car turned to the right unexpectedly. After that the car was extremely hard to steer. I was able to get the car home with no incident. The power steering rack was replaced

After starting the vehicle and while still stationary the vehicle displayed a 'power steering assist fault' and the power steering failed.the car is very had to steer after getting this error message.i was able to stop and re-start the car and the error message was not displayed again and i was able to drive the car.the error is now happening every 2-3 days depending on the frequency it is driven.if this happens while driving it is very dangerous.

When starting the car the power steering would not work with a "power steering system fault" and"adv trac fault" warning on the dash.for a few days we could try restarting the car and have power steering until it had a complete failure. Hadthe whole power steering rack replaced at ford dealership at a cost of $1975

4 months age my power steering pump fail while driving. Wecould not get a replacement (new) at my dealer.had a ford re-built pump installed at $450.00, and that failed immediately.still no new pumps available thru ford. I can't get ford to talk to me or my mechanic.i'm having trouble driving my car in this condition.what can be done?

I have a 2010 ford flex eco boost. The electric assist power steering is going out. The problem began sporadically and then became more prevalent. It usually occurs at low speeds. The force required to turn the wheel when it goes out is ridiculous. It can be especially dangerous when pulling out into traffic. Initially, the power steering would go out for a short distance (less than 1 mile) and then come back.then, it remainedout for a 3 mile period before coming back.there are no warning lights on the dash when this happens. I just went to a ford dealership, and they quoted $2,200 to replace the entire steering column.however, their diagnostic equipment didn'traise any warnings either.so, this was just a guess on their part.i took the flex in to address some tsbs, after which the power steering worked again for about 1,000 miles.six months later, it went out completely again. Took the car to an independent mechanic, who hooked it up to the latest diagnostic equipment, and again everything looked good - no codes. The power steering is completely gone.however, on start-up it will occasionally come back for one turn of the wheel.

After starting the car, a message lit in the counsel stating power steering assist fault.i could not move the steering wheel and had to reset the system and restart the car.this happened once inmy driveway and a second time in the wall-mart parking lot.feeling unsafe i drove my car directly to our mechanic and after diagnostic, it was determined a replacement of the power steering gear assembly.i have enclose the receipt for the work done.

The electric power steering assist systems intermittently fails resulting in the loss of steering. This happens mostly at startup and most of the time requires turning the engine off and then restarting the engine to get the electric power steering assist systems to function. I have had the vehicle to a ford dealer for this problem but they refuse to do anything about it unless they see it happen, which would be very difficult to do since it is a known intermittent problem. My understanding is that there is a recall for this exact problem for 2011 - 2013 ford flex's. For some reason the 2010 flex is not included in the recall. This has been happening for about six weeks now but again the problem is very intermittent. At this point i am afraid for the safety of myself and my family.

Power steering assist and advancetrac both failed at the same time. It is showing on the driver information screen. There are no codes with a code reader.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. While driving 20- 30 mph the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact also stated that the steering wheel also pulled to the left and to the right. There were no warning lights illuminated. There was an abnormal rubbing sound detected in the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to mel hambelton ford 11771 w kellogg ave, wichita, ks 67209 (316) 462-3673 where it was diagnosed as the rack and pinion and power steering assist failed to operate as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was referred to the nhtsa hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 141,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the steering column needed to be lubed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 113,000.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. The contact stated that the power steering was faulty. While operating the vehicle, the contact noticed an abnormal burning odor and the steering wheel could not be moved. Another motorist helped the contact push the vehicle to the shoulder. On another occasion, while making a sharp turn, the vehicle made an abnormal moan/groan sound. The vehicle was taken to henderson ford (2530 us-41, henderson, ky 42420, (270) 827-3566) where it was diagnosed that a new rack and pinion needed to be installed. The vehicle was repaired and a 'detroit axle rack and pinion' was installed. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to three unknown dealers and the power steering was replaced four times and clocksprings were installed; however, none of the previous remedies repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent the technician who installed the 'detroit axle system'. The failure mileage was 150,000.

When we turn the car on the power steering warning light flashes and the power steering goes out (the steering wheel shift to the right and it becomes manual steering and very hard to turn the wheel straight).it goes directly into manual mode. We turn the car off and back on and the light disappears and the electric power steering is working again. It has happen this way several times over the past 2 weeks.we have a ford flex 2010 eco boost that has the electric power steering system. We took to the dealership and they are staying we need to replace the steering control box. It's faulty and a very expensive fix. But we do not fall under the recall for the ford flex since that is for the 2011 and current. It's the same issue the other ford flex's are having with the power steering. I've read on numerous forum that this issue is happening also with the 2010 eco boost ford flex. Very scary if this happens while driving with kids in the car and the steering goes out. This is just one of many issues we have had with this car including having to replace the throttle body due to the car jerking and engine revving up while at idle, grinding breaks which we keep being told is normal and premature tire wear.

The power steering system failed in my 2010 ford flex with less than 80,000 miles.thankfully the failure did not occur while we were driving.we had the car towed to our mechanic who said that the entire steering rack needed to be replaced.the part is $1600 and labor is over $500.there is an active recall of the 2011-2013 ford flex model years for the exact same problem.i called ford and told them i believed there was a safety related defect in the 2010 ford flex that is the same as the problem in the 2011 my that caused the recall.the representative said that because there was not an active bulletin for the 2010 my, ford would do nothing to fix the problem.obviously this is the same problem that is present in later model years. Ford's refusal to recall and fix this problem is going to kill someone. If the power steering had gone out while we were driving, there surely would have been a wreck.

2010 ford flex sel with ecoboost, 87k miles. Electronic power steering went out on my on my way home. I was on my street, so when i got home, i turned off and restarted the car, power steering was fine. A week later the power steering failed right when i started the car, and no amount of restarting has brought it back to life. Apparently i'm looking at around $1000 for a new sas and steering gear. It seems there was a recall on the 2011-2013 flexes, but not the 2010s, which to my knowledge have the same electronic steering system. I see others on forums complaining about this issue as well, and would really like to see a resolution to this problem.

Steering gear failure in epas steering system. Constant jerking of the steering at all speeds, very loud noise and difficult to control.

Power steering went out. Towed to ford dealer.they replaced the steering gear assembly ($2,145.00). Two hundred miles later the same thing happened again. Towed to the same ford dealer, after two days they tell me the tire pressure was low. I don't believe it but will drive some more. When these incidents occurred we were driving on state highways at 40 mph +/- pulled over and stopped and lower speeds the vehicle was impossible to steer.vehicle mileage 72997 and we are original owner.

While driving home the service power steering/service advancetrak warning came on.i was able to drive the additional 5 miles or so to get home without having any major steering issues.the steering felt different, but was still controllable.upon arriving home, i turned the vehicle off and back on.i was seeing if the warning disappeared, but now it said service power steering now.at this point the steering wheel was almost immovable.i was able to get the vehicle down to the street, where i had it towed to the closest ford dealership.i received a call stating that the rack and pinion steering gear was in need of replacement.we purchased the vehicle in the fall 2015 with about 78000 miles on it.currently we have about 94000 miles on it.i have noticed that the newer model years with the same engine have had a similar defect prompting a recall.i find it hard to believe that a similar problem could have occurred with the exact same scenario.the dealership has responded with an estimate for $2200+.with the vehicle having less than 100000 miles and now requiring such a major repair, i personally feel as though ford has some responsibilty.luckily i was able to make it home with my vehicle, but if i had to have driven any further away what could have happened?please help not just me but other owners of the same my2010 vehicles.

Accelerated from drive making sharp right turn onto busy state route road. Power steering abruptly failed while accelerating with front wheels turned sharply to passenger side. Steering was impossible to move back to center position in spite of pulling with all my might (muscular build). Applied brakes sharply; vehicle exited road and impacted curb with front tires..wife, and two small children present in vehicle and traffic at speed on road. Once static; steering wheel locked in position; completely unable to budge wheel with vehicle static. Conducted research; identified ford recall for model years 2011 and above with identical problem. Informed ford designed flawed and unsafe steering rack in hundreds of thousands of vehicles; but my 2010 flex is not covered under recall. Repair requires complete replacement of electric steering rack and related components. Repair cost approximated around 3k. Vehicle purchase new in 2010, only 51k miles (just out of warranty). Ford tells me to take a hike. I am physically disabled and on social security disability. It is winter, we have no other vehicle. This is criminal negligence; why have you exclude 2010 and prior model years in recall with identical component failures?...updated 03-10-16 ; 4/27/18

Steering goes into manual mode. It just started went away for two days then came back.seems very similar to ford flex 2011 recall. Came close to having an accident as manual steering was at all levels of speed. Today it is back to normal, and it is easy too steer. Concerned that it will happen again and cause an accident.

Approximately 5 months ago i went to go start my 2010 ford flex and i had no power steering.i couldnot steer my car at all, after sitting for about 20 minutes i re-started my vehicle and the steering was back to normal.since then i have had intermittent problems with my power steering.occasionally when i start my vehicle i have no power steering, if i turn the steering wheel slightly left or right it will come back on.i have no warning lights on my dashboard for this, but i have had on occasion the traction control lightcome on but only for a couple of minutes, then it goes away.i have taken it to ford and they claimed i had a fault code for the power steering, but could not send me any info on it.luckily this has not happened while the vehicle is being driven, it's usually upon starting.it seems based on the recall of 2011-2014 that ford would have included the 2010 vehicles.if this happens while i'm driving it could have serious consequences.

The powersteering was intermittent tight at times for a week and then became very tight and almost couldn't steer nearly causing a crash. We took it to the dealer where they are replacing the rack and the powersteering shaft for over $1000 on a car that is barely 4 years old. This vehicle was not included in the may 29th recall for the same problem on other ford suv's.

The contact owns a 2010 ford flex. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the passenger's side rear tire was drifting to the right independently causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The contact regained control of the vehicle and pulled to the side of the roadway. The contact had the vehicle towed to bill knight ford (9607 s. Memorial dr, tulsa, ok 74133) who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that the rear toe link was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 351,000.

I recently purchased a 2010 ford flex, with a class iii trailer tow package.the package, according to ford's brochure is supposed to include a tire mobility kit.the kit, as i understand it, is essentially made up of an air compressor and a can of sealant compound used to plug a hole in a tire. Therefore the compressor injects the sealant compound, while inflating the tire.on page 309, of the owner's guide, is the following warning: " warning:when towing a trailer, use the temporary mobility kit and not the mini spare tire if necessary.the mini spare tire is not intended for the higher towing load limits of this vehicle.when towing heavy loads with the mini spare tire, vehicle handling may be diminished, which could lead to loss of control, and serious personal injury."my car is not equipped with the tire mobility kit, and the ford motor company tells me, "if your car is equipped with a spare tire, it will not be equipped with the tire mobility kit".it seems stupid to me, and perhaps criminal, that they include the warning in the owner's manual and refuse to provide the safety equipment they claim to be necessary, and which they claim is included in their sales brochure.incidentally, it took the salesman two weeks to come up with ford's explanation, and he said, "it's all hush hush".

Exhaust in passenger cabin, enough to make you light headed and start coughing, mainly happens with air conditioning turned on, under hard accelerations. Dealer can not reproduce or find any problems.

Sudden acceleration requiring braking and downshift of automatic transmission to avoid collision. Has happened on highway and in stopped traffic. Latest episode this past week.

Eco boost engine stall due to condensation of air from the cold air compressorin the turbo chargerfor the engine. Have had car serviced several times and dealer or mechanic can not resolveproblem. Happen in freeway at high speed but has also happened in the street at 20 - 30 mph

Was pulling into gas station today and breaking at pump when car suddenly accelerated.i applied break hard, tires spun until i shifted into neutral. I then shifted into park and turned off vehicle. Rpms had shot up, did not look down but could hear engine revving. Would have hit someone if i had not been at the gas pump. Will take vehicle to dealer asap for inspection. This s the third time this has occurred in last 2 weeks.

2010 ford flex.consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration.the consumer stated about two weeks ago, while stopped at a red light, the vehicle suddenly lurched forward. The vehicle immediately slowed down and would not go above 10 mph or it shut off completely.ford informed the consumer, the fix would cost $550.

When i press on gas it jerks and feels like its straing to kick up.dragging no gas its pulling. And when i break the peddles push back and make weird noises.it sometimes don't stop .the radio buttons doesn't work none of them.i purchased this vehicle 08/15/2020
