Recall 16c06,we called the recall number and they are denying and refusing to resolve this issue that the nhtsa has set into place.we are seeking compliance in getting this repaired at no charge to us since this is a justified recall.please contact us at [xxx] .we are experiencing warning lights coming on in vehicle.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

In a head on collision with a parked vehicle traveling at approximately 45 to 50 mph none of the air bags were set off and the seat belt did not hold the driver back and he was thrown into the steering wheel bending the steering wheel and column.

My ford flex 2009 turns on then when i go pout the car on reverse it pulls my car and makes a loud sound then i put it to drive and it does the same when i go to press the gas pedal it does not go at all. The ac turns on but it does not accelerate and the airbags light starts to turn on and off this is now . But a month ago it was drivable and when i was driving in the freeway going 70 miles the airbag lights would turn in and off then the tire pressure sensor fault turned on then the miles o was going when clear nothing on the dashboard would mark and the car was still going but wouldn't wanna go faster and if i break it wouldn't accelerate more.

Takata recall the air bags are off and the airbag light flashes sometimes when driving it comes in my dashboard tho remove all objects from behind the passenger sit or driver sitwhen there is nothing there and now it doesn't wanna acelrate my car at all it parked now for 3 months

My flex started having a hard jerk and bang when going from reverse to park. Was not always but frequent. The car started to run hot when sitting in a drive thru or traffic but would go right back down when i started moving. I took it into s mechanic and he replaced the fan. After replacing the fan the car began to have a really bad grinding noisewhen idling or traveling. Do bad i did not want to drive it. I took it into the ford dealership and after 2 days they call and say they can't find anything wrong. Within 4 minutes i get another call daying i need a new transmission. The car would eccellerate on its own, shut off intermittently, and car would lag between 3rd and 4th gears. Ford dealership advised me to have a knew transmission put in. Car will shift properly most of the time even on highway. Only get whining noise at low speeds.i was also in an accident causing $13000.00 worth of damage to front end and airbags did not deploy after hitting a car doing 35 mph.

Exiting hwy at 50 mph, hit brake.hard brake pedal-no brakes followed by engine full throttle acceleration-vehicle was sent to the ford dealer in oct for a check eng light that couldn't be extinguished.computer was reflashed with basic prom.no other issues until accident

Generally occurs when restarting car about 15 -30 minutes after driving for at least 20 mins with ac on high.engine will rev up and down on restart, and rpm and speedometer needles sweep back and forth (reading over 100 mph on occasion) for about 10 seconds while car is still in park.car does not move, though did notice odometer skip up once.revving and needle sweeping either stop on own, or when put into reverse with foot on brake.dealership found no errors on car computer, and was unable to duplicate, but was shown when car was dropped off.dealership wants to use flight recorder but flight recorder needed to be fixed/sent back. Been trying to get answer for over a month now.

2009 ford flex.driving through my neighborhood when i noticed loss of power steering and brakes.the car had simply died while driving.was able to stop it on the side of the street and restart it.continued on without another occurrence.learned through a web forum that this has occurred to approximately 8 other owners of this vehicle.

Vehicle has had radiator cooling fan(s) failure(s) resulting in loss of power and overheating.

Engine stall at speed.merging on to freeway at 50+ mph, engine cut off, no power.assist brakes and steering disabled.safety issue.was not able to restart vehicle immediately.waited 10 minutes and car was able to restart.car was towed to dealership for diagnosis.

I purchased my flex new on oct 2009 and it has shut off while driving three times since i bought it. The first time it happened i was driving through my neighborhood (with my children in the car with me) at 20mph all the warning lights came on my engine shut off, loss of power steering, loss of brakes. Luckily i was able coast to the side of the street. I waited a few minutes and it wouldn't start. I tried to start it again and it started up. The second time i was driving on the highway(with my children in the car with me) at 55mph engine shut off, loss of power steering, loss of brakes and check engine light came on, i coasted to the shoulder, waited a few minutes and it started right up. I took it to the dealership; they told me they couldn't find any issues that would cause the vehicle to turn off while driving so they didn't attempt to fix it. The third time was last week while driving through my neighborhood(with my children in the car with me) at 20 mph, engine shut off, loss of power steering, loss of brakes and check engine light came on. I took it to the dealership again and again they told me that they couldn't duplicate the issue so they didn't attempt to fix it. My children were in the car with me all three times. I've taken to the dealership 3 times for this issue and they cant duplicate the issue so they can't find the problem so they didn't even attempt to fix it. I just dropped it off this week for the fourth time. Its very frustrating to have this issue especially since im scared to drive the vehicle with my kids in the car. I feel its a huge safety issue. Its a total inconvenience to have to keep going back to the dealership and drop off my vehicle. I have three children and need a dependable vehicle. Luckily we weren't injured but im worried that the next time it happens an injury could occur. Why hasn't ford listed this issue in their tsb!

Vehicle overheated on several random occasions. Air conditioning blows hot air when not moving. Vehicle stalled in intersection on several random occasions. The cooling fan relay was replaced which temporarily corrected all related problems. This same problem occurred at 67540 miles. The relay was replaced with a genuine ford replacement part and has failed again after only 8000 miles. After looking on the internet it is obvious this is not an isolated problem. A recall has been issued for 2011 and 2012 models but not the 09. This is a serious problem that could destroy the vehicles engine or worse get some one killed if it stalls while crossing traffic.

1. Recurring braek noise, brakes, rotors and brackets replaced repeatedly. Has happened 4 times over 8 months. Abs system also replaced.2. Vehicle stopped in the middle of the road without pressing on brakes - vehicle was still running and would not move. Eventually (30 to 90 seconds) the vehicle was able to be moved. Dealership kept vehicle to try to identify issue (apparently not first flex this occured with) and returned vehicle with no repairs other then to replace the abs. They said there was not issue and it was likely a one time occurance. When asked dealership to look at the transmission and the chain in the t-casing (was told if the chain seized it would create the reaction that happened) i was told they would not as it was timely, expensive and unwarranted.3. The electronics on the vehicle tend to start/come on whnever they choose with not assistance. The entertainment system/electronics has been malfunctioning repeatedly since the next to last visit to the dealership when the abs was replaced in august.

When driving down city highway or city roads the all of the lights on the dash board will cut off, (ie. Radio, blinkers, heat & a/c controls)will shut off and the drive control button will appear with the door ajar and brake lights. It is now starting to make a dinging sound while you drive as well as smell like something is on fire. The car is completely shut and sealed.there isn't a time or instant where this is happening. It will just go in and out! ford you really need to fix this problem since families are using these vehicles. I've done some research and see that it is a common problem with the 09 flex.

Vehicle overheated on several random occasions. Air conditioning blows hot air when not moving. Vehicle stalled in intersection on several random occasions. The cooling fan relay was replaced which temporarily corrected all related problems. This exact same problem has now developed after 8000 miles. After looking on the internet it is obvious this is not an isolated problem. A recall has been issued for 2011 and 2012 models but not the 09. This is a serious problem that could destroy the vehicles engine or worse get some one killed if it stalls while crossing traffic.

The check engine light has come on 4 times in the past year. The error code relates to the capless fuel system. The dealer has reset the code and replaced a fueling tube. On 7/24/10, engine light lit and five minutes later the engine cut out while driving less than 20 mph. Car restarted without issue. It is currently being serviced.

It keeps saying sensor we had replaced twice is still bad. The transmission doesn't accelerate sometimes

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway, smoke appeared from the hood and the vehicle spontaneously caught on fire. The contact extinguished the fire and disconnected the battery cables. The air bag warning indicator was illuminated, but the air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

1#-feb 25,2015 blew the two heating hoses off back of motor while car was sitting in parking lot with gear in park, took to joe cooper ford to have repairs done and did. 2#- on march 14,2015 @ about 0930 during a trip to texas, got caught in traffic in forth worth tex engine over heated and spewed anti-freeze from bottom of car. We replaced the thermostat and after further checking we found that the "cooling fans" did not work. Ford motor company has known of this problem since 2007. Joe cooper ford did not bring this to our attention even thou they knew the cause and was not forth coming, nor have we heard from ford motor company about this issue. We check the forum for ford flex and found that this is and on going issue since 2007 with the ford flex.

"takata recall " driver side heated seat only stays on for less then 2 minutesand shuts itself off ..

I have a 2009 ford flex built october 2008 which stalled yesterday. I was driving about 10-20 mph when the stall occured. Restarted the car without any problem. Problem seems to be rare. Fortunately traffic was light so i was able to steer the car to safety. Please note that power steering was lost during the stall. I will take the car to get a look at by the dealer and hope to get this fixed.

This is the third time the cooling fan system broke in 3 years since i have my ford flex 2009 model.o bought the car in dealer in january 2011.few months after the cooling system broke.then a year later it broke again and right now is broken for the third time.i always change for original parts but i want to know the root cause of this and to see if ford is going to make a recall.

I purchased this vehicle in may, 2014 as a used vehicle w/warranty (powertrain). While traveling from st.louis, missouri in stop and go traffic, the car overheated. After speeding up to get out of traffic it suddenly cooled back off. Now, during this same time, the air conditioner stopped blowing cool air until we sped up to get out of traffic. After that, it didn't happen again until i was stuck in traffic. Same problem. The fans stopped working. Here recently, i was stuck in traffic and the car overheated and the check engine light came on. Only this time, when i sped up the car didn't cool down. The coolant was fine but the car still over heated. I took the car to the dealership today and was told that it is the cooling fan module and it should be replaced. Now, i've read in several different places that this is a problem with 2008-2012 ford flex vehicles. A recall was issued for the 2011-2012 series but not earlier models. Owners of these vehicles should not have to be responsible for faulty materials used to make these vehicles. The same recall that was afforded to the 2011-2012 models should also be afforded to owners of earlier models. The dealership wants $600 to repair this because my warranty only covers powertrain. Please address this asap. I have 6 children and cannot afford to spend $600 on something that is not even my fault or the fault of normal wear and tear.

Passenger door ajar dash light goes on and off when the door is secure and locked. Interior lights go on and off when ajar light is displayed and power locks unlock/lock at the same time. This is a serious issue at night when the interior lights go on and off the entire time when your driving blinding you as well as i have been pulled over because they thought i stole the car. While pulled over i was asked to step out of the car and when i exited the car ibecame possessed and the alarm went off and interior lights began blinking andflashing on and off. The car alarm consistently goes off atall hours of the day and night causing the battery to go dead if your not around to shut it off. This is also issue as my car can get stolen at any time if the factory alarm isn't working or i could get carjacked because the doors won't stay locked.this issue happens in park, in drive and reverse. It happens while driving or idling as well as it occurs on the highway and city streets. I have read many other reports and ford needs to address this in the 2009 flex as well.

Intermittent no start of vehicle.towed to dealer after 5 previous incidents. Delivered to dealership in same no start behavior.upon initial attempt a relay was replaced as the pcm (main engine computer) was not receiving power.service advisor calls to indicate vehicle is ready and starts up after repair.at the dealership, picking up the vehicle, car starts up, however, dash lights light up, warning "check awd, check this, check that..."service engine light on as well (the wrench).shut the car down, try to restart, will not restart.tech is with me and observes behavior and tries as well.no start again.tech attempts to download error codes.mentions rfi interference.will be doing another diagnostic.previously, car was towed to dealership for stalling at freeway speeds (65+).ended up being a soaked pcm (main engine computer).this took two trips (towed both times).this is now four times to repair the same non-running / no start defect.the rear brakes were also repaired due to dragging calipers as per tsb 10-7-2.

09 ford flex. Coming up on a turn and my car shuts off.i rolled to the corner put it in park and restarted the car. This is the second time since i've had the this car that it shut off.thank goodness no one is hurt.my car is at the dealership as i type.

Six am, totally dark, lights on low beam, total power failure while in heavy traffic and inching forward.engine died and all electrical components failed within 30 seconds.battery was new in august of 2014, all connections tight.i was in lane three from the right on a six lane freeway that was totally impacted with vehicles.i tried to exit to right shoulder but could not and ended up blocking lanes two and three.no power to anything but i was able to get shift lever into park and the car started.would not start in neutral or drive.has not occurred since after driving approximately 650 miles.

2009 ford flex will not start.warning about low fuel, check awd with 3/4 full tank of gas.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While the vehicle was stationary or while driving various speeds, the center console failed to operate. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact heard a bell sound and the instrument panel lighting shut off. In addition, the low tire pressure indicator illuminated without warning and the turn signals and brake lights became inoperable. The contact disconnected and reconnected the battery cable in an attempt to correct the series of failures. Hall ford (1310 north road st, elizabeth city, north carolina 27909) was made aware of the failures and performed a series of unknown repairs. The diagnosis information was not provided. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 65,000. The vin was unknown.

Twice while driving my ford flex, i had spontaneous total shut downs of the engine. The first time, my car was only a few months old and i was idling in front of a friend's house when all the lights came on and it completely died. I started it right back up (and it subsequently performed perfectly) and i drove it to ford where they did some diagnostics checks and found no anomaly. It concerned me but thinking it may be a fuel injection issue while only idling, i went about my business. On july 20, 2012, at 38k mile, my ford flex died again! total shutdown of the engine and all the lights came on while i was driving approximately 30 miles per hour with my daughter in the car! no power steering, no power brakes, no power anything! because i was on a slight downhill, i was able to get the car over to the side of the road without catastrophe, thank god. The engine started up again as if nothing occurred. I drove direct to ford where they did 10 minutes of diagnostic testing and told me once again that there was no anomaly. I went a little crazy, informed them that i was leaving for a 10- day vacation the following morning and that they had the full 10 days to fix the car or that i wasn't going to be picking it up ever again. A ford tech drove my car with a computer plugged into the car, typed in the problem and after maneuvering the car to try and get a repeated response, the car did indeed shut down while he was driving it! apparently, the throttle body was binding internally and needed to be replaced. After replacing part # 1 7t4z 9e926 fa, ford walnut creek ca is telling me it is fixed. Let's hope so. I pray that no one has been involved in a fatal or injury accident as a result of this part's failure. I am writing this as an alert and a heads up to anyone who has had the same scary experience.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the tire monitor default warning light illuminated. Every electrical feature failed including the headlights, defroster and anti skid activator. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician replaced the battery, the wiring connected to the brake pedal and the wiring connected to the remote started yet, the failure persisted. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

This is a 2009 flex dealer demo with 1450 miles.it has died twice while driving during a test drive. The first occurrence was while in drive, in a parking lot at about 5 mph.the engine, a/c, radio/accessory power, and all lights suddenly died.it was as if the key had been turned to "off", except that the retained accessory power and all dash/warning lights went out as well.the car re-started easily once put into neutral.the second occurrence was in reverse, backing out of a driveway at about 3 mph.this time the engine suddenly died, and a/c turned off, but the accessory power to the radio and dash /warning lights remained on, and the security light on the dash was blinking slowly.again, the car re-started easily.both times the power steering and braking went out and the car was much more difficult to control, and shifting gears, re-starting it, and shifting back to drive took several seconds.this could cause a serious collision if it happened while pulling into traffic.i have heard of at least 4 other similar incidents, and most of those were resolved at the dealership with a simple change to the computer control module in the engine.hopefully ford will recall units already sold to make this change before someone is injured.

Driving stopped at a stop sign noticed the wrench light on (happens often while this happens will not accelerate like normal until it hits 2-3rd gear). I press the gas to accelerate after making the turn i had to make another turn about 1/4 mile up the street. I released the gas to make the turn but my car kept accelerating it was not going very fast but the engine was accelerating pushing the rpms up to 6000. My foot was not on the gas and nothing was pressing the gas no floor mat or items in the way of the pedals. I pressed on the break (with the engine still accelerating) put the car into neutral and pulled over. Turned the engine off and restarted the car. The car ran fine after restarted it. No check engine light was on at any point just the wrench light. The light did go off after i restarted the car. I drove it about another 40 miles since this has happened and has not recurred since. I did have the car taken in to check the codes at about 90k miles (without the wrench light because it goes off as soon as you restart the car) nothing came up for codes.

My wife was driving our 2009 ford flex in a driving rainstorm approximately 500 miles from home and the car died twice.each time, she called roadside assistance and a tow truck had to come out and pick her up.a local ford dealer look at the car, but naturally did not find anything wrong.she made it back home and i took it to the dealer we purchased it from (crain ford + little rock, arkansas).they kept it for a week and we drove a rental car around.they never did find out what was wrong.now, today, december 11, 2009, my car is back in the shop for the 2nd time for brake grinding.they tell me also that i have to pay for a new tie rod...$500.i'm sick of ford motors!!

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that there was an oil leak on the rear of the engine. The engine was removed and the leak was repaired by the dealership. The air cylinder that lifted the third row seats was defective and had to be replaced. The rear hatch opened on its own five times; the dealer realigned the door to remedy the problem. The rear main oil seal failed so it was also replaced at the dealership. The brakes failed to stop the vehicle effectively. When the vehicle was taken to the dealership, they stated that the vehicle was fine. The battery was defective and was replaced. The transmission excessively shifted into gear when down shifting, causing the vehicle to jerk and shake. The dealer stated that they could not find a problem when they inspected the vehicle. The engine made a popping noise when he accelerated from a stop. The door molding and window molding sills became warped. Lastly, one of the tires (the contact could not recall which one) blew and the sidewall separated; he replaced the tire at his expense. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that once the vehicle left the manufacturing plant, it was the dealership responsibility and offered no assistance. The current mileage was 15,283. The failure mileage was 7,526.the battery had to replaced. Updated 12/30/10

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While the key was in the ignition, the anti-lock warning indicator illuminated. The contact was unable to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the causeof the failure was not determined. The dealer stated that the secure lock system needed to be reprogrammed by the dealer. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and transferred the contact to nhtsa to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph from a complete stop, the traction control system activated independently and the warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000. Updated 07/23/13*ljthe consumer stated when making a right or left turn from a stop or a near stop into traffic, the vehicle would lose traction control and there would be aloss of engine torque.the consumer stated within the first 11 months of owning the vehicle, his wife complained about the vehicle losing power, as she was attempting to merge into traffic. Updated 07/24/13

In oct. 2008 i bought a new 2009 ford flex.soon after i started getting loud grinding noises in the brakes.the dealer said that there was a service order on this complaint and changed the brake pads (twice).since then the problem has come back intermittently and this week i had my foot barely on the brake peddle when i started to accelerate and the grinding noise came and the brakes locked up momentarily.i have been in touch with ford and they don't seem to have any knowledge of this problem, and i feel the local dealer is not pursuing a solution.last time i was in the dealership i asked if ford had any answer and they just said "we have changed the pads twice".the problem is intermittent and hard to pin down as to when and how often it happens, but is noisy when it does and annoying.the dealer said "it is not a safety issue"i wonder when they locked up a couple days ago.last incident is below.thank you

It keeps saying sensor we had replaced twice is still bad. The transmission doesn't accelerate sometimes

Wife started car in school parking lot. Turned left and headed short distance the lot exit. While turning right onto the main road and starting to accelerate, heard 'load noises' that seemed to be under the car. Car started to slow down even though she was giving it gas. She pulled over and shut the car off. Didn't notice any dash lights (abs or tcs). Restarted car and everything was fine. Car has 128,000 miles.

While leaving a parking lot and accelerating to barely 10 mph, the left front brakes seemed to lock up and the car stuttered.after stopping and accelerating again, the problem did not reoccur at that time.the second time, i was leaving my driveway, again going no more that 10 mph and the same thing happened, this time i noticed my traction control light flashing.i put the car into reverse, backed up a bit thinking i'd run over something, and accelerated again.nope, didn't run over anything, just traction control seizing up.very concerned this may happen at higher speeds and cause an accident.

As i am driving come to a stop. Proceed in motion making a left turn or right turn vehicle will lock up slowing down with grinding. Now this has happened 3 times on the road causing traffic to stop.

Initially started in 2014 car seemingly locked up on me when exiting work place driveway and making right turn. Took car to airport marina ford they keptt it for approx 2 -3 days unable to duplicate. Trouble has now reappeared in may and again today.not sure what to do because of previous dealership case with them not being able to duplicate. I actually refused to take car back asking the the managerdrive it around nothing found.

Our ford flex came to a stop, (engine did not shut off) from approx. 10 mph, without the driver, my wife, applying the brakes, in a mall parking lot.she shut it off and started it again.it drove fine.since we have had brake issues with the flex before, we immediatly took the flex to the dealer.the dealer said they could find nothing wrong, even driving it "20 miles" around town to replicate any problem.they also said they contacted ford for any suggestions.we picked the car up two days later and my wife & daughter drove the car 350 miles to visit relatives.while on this trip, the car stalled, engine quit, in traffic at about 15 mph.this happened right after filling the flex with fuel.the car started again and was taken to the local ford dealer, where they found nothing wrong. We have had many brake issues as well with this vehicle.the rear brakes smoke from self application (the parking brake was not on), enough smoke that other drivers have waved us down on the road thinking the flex's brakes were on fire.we have had the rear rotors and calipers replaced at 15,300 miles (under warranty) do to extremely quick wear.the rear brakes have smoked again since this replacement.i'm beginning to think these problems are related in the abs/traction control/stablity control system.of course, the dealer, and apparently ford, say there is nothing wrong.the transmission clunks ("nothing wrong") and is reluctant to downshift (safety factor when in traffic), the front brakes are making that grinding noise other owners have complained about, and trim pieces fall off the car.this is my wife's vehicle to transport kids in and we are extremely frustrated with our flex and feel this "family car" is unsafe.we are considering california's "lemon law" if ford and their dealers don't acknowlede that the ford flex has some serious problems.

July 22, 2016. Wife started car in school parking lot and headed to the exit. While making a left hand turn onto the main road, and accelerating, loud noises again heard under the car and it lost power even while giving it gas. Had to pull over to the side of the road. Shut off car and re-started. No issues. Wife refuses to drive the car until fixed. Taken to dealer on july 29, 2016. Unable to duplicate. Returning to dealer aug 5 for computer re-flash. This is a significant safety issue that is being reported all over the ford flex forums and it appears ford motor company will not address the issue.

While entering a 4 lane divided highway from the driveway of a drugstore the electronic stability control (esc) indicator light on the dash of my 2009 ford flex began flashing and i could hear the buzzing of the antilock brake system (abs). The vehicle was traveling less than 15 miles an hour at the time so there was no risk of the vehicle going out of control. The application of the brakes by the esc/abs prevented the vehicle from accelerating which i believe created a safety hazard while trying to pull out into traffic on the highway. No crash occurred but there is significant potential for a crash. I disabled the esc via the switch on the dashboard which allowed me to accelerate but now i did not have the safety benefit of the esc. This occurred once yesterday, the car is new,i have owned the car for 4 days and it has accumulated less than 500 miles.

Engine stalls despite fuel gauge reading 1/4 tank in reserve. Fill up confirms that there is in fact 1/4 tank left. Has happened several times now.

Smell car exhaust fumes inside the car when under acceleration and the heater is going. . took it to ford dealership to service writer. He did not accept the car for service or write it up because he could not smell it himself. The problem comes and goes. Smelled it as recently as today.

The vehicle over heats, and just gets too hot. If the a/c is running it over heats just sitting at the light. Now that it is cooler, the heater is on and it over heats just sitting at the light.i stop the car and let it cool down but it should not be operating like this. There are many problems describing this same problem and it is a factory defect and needs to be corrected.no reason just sitting at a stop light for the car to over heat.

Vehicle was in motion and it cut off for the 2nd time. Now it wont startm rolled into business parking lot.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the wiring harness and pcm would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,425.

2009 ford flex limited overheats while idling for the past 3 years. Ran multiple vacuum tests and there is no leak or shortage of coolant. A/c blows hot while idling. Replaced relays, thermostat, and fuses to no avail. Replaced cooling fans recently with oem parts. Car is no longer overheating, but now has a strong electrical or melting smell after driving. Fans potentially failing again.

Last night, i went to back the car out of the garage and while in reverse, the engine started revving up uncontrollably and even though i had my foot on the brakes, it kept moving in reverse.i quickly put it in neutral and the revving came down.shut down the car, restarted it and this time, i put it in drive and the same thing happen again only to start lunging forward even while braking.if i were in traffic or at a stop light or sign, i would have surely hit the person(s) in front or behind me.later my wife explained to me this happened while driving on the interstateand she had a hard time controlling the speed, due to revving, even while using the brake.she managed to take an exit ramp into a large parking lot using extreme braking (forceful) and shut the car off.she was able to make it home shortly thereafter.i waited until after 8pm to drive when there was little or no traffic to drive to the closest car repair shop to drop it off and there happened to be a mechanic leaving as i was pulling up.i described the problem and he mentioned that it was a definitely a safety issue and advised not to drive it until it got diagnosed & repaired.i've owned a lot of cars in my life and experiencing uncontrollable revving whilst the transmission is engaged is a frightening experience. Luckily we kept our wits and were able to recover.i also see where this has already been reported on this site.this is a real safety issue and i'm thankful no one was injured last night, including my wife and children.please, please check into this as this is not normal behavior anda serious safety concern.

While drive on the highway with my youngest son, my car suddenly decellerated and eventually the car's engine completely died.fourtunatly i was able to get out of the lanes of traffic and onto an exit ramp.the ramp had a wall on the passenger side and fast exiting traffic on the drivers side. I could not safely exit the vehicle in this location.after about 5 minutes, i was able to start the car enough to move it to a safer location 30-40 yards off the exit (where the car again died).there was no indication on either my temp guage or any warning lights that the engine had overheated to the point of a cracked head/block.at the time of this incident, ford was aware that there were issues with the control module for the cooling fans not working and had a customer satisfaction program 12b36 in place.i never heard of the program until this week (9/18/13).i should have been informed as an owner of this poorly engineered vehicle that it had such an unsafe defect.since i was 40k miles out of warranty ford's solution was for me to buy a new engine at the cost of $8000.i have been saving up for the past 4 months to purchase a used engine and have a local garage install it.i am not happy about this vehicle putting my and my son's lives in danger.i hope others with this vehicle do not have to be put in harms way as well.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact owned the vehicle for less than two months and stated that the steeringu joint, wheel bearings, and engine failed. The dealer (car nation, 317 south philadelphia blvd, aberdeen, md 21001, (410) 995-8888) stated that the vehicle could not be repaired since the contact put 1,000 miles on the vehicle. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 106,080. The vin was unknown.

It keeps saying sensor we had replaced twice is still bad. The transmission doesn't accelerate sometimes

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the electronic throttle failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000....updated 07/19/16

Driving 65. Mph car lost power .iwas able to pull to side of road.turned car off and on it restarted took to ford dealership they said it was throttle body replaced at 700. There is no recall, but ford is aware of danger.ous defect .tech said.

My flex has repeatedly lost power while driving. I can feel the car lose power, and the yellow wrench light comes on. After reading up on it, i learned that you have to turn the vehicle off, wherever you are, and restart it after a few minutes. The wrench light turns off, and the car runs as normal, with no records of codes. This is talked about over and over in online forums. The safety issue is that it has happened on the freeway several times while traveling at a high rate of speed. The car loses power, and you cannot accelerate. You have to find a way to stop immediately, put the car in park (and listen to the transmission clunk) and turn it off. This last instance put me in harms way on the freeway. The car lost power while traveling 70mph. I immediately lost speed and had to cross 3 lanes of traffic to pull over to turn the car off. All of the forums talk about the throttle body, but everyone says thatā€™s not the issue. The oss and tss sensors are also discussed. The dealerships cannot find out whatā€™s wrong because once the car is turned off and restarted, any codes are erased. The issue persists, and the car keeps losing power wherever and whenever. I am referencing the most recent incident on this form, however, this has happened at least 12 times since september, 2020. Please, please force a recall on this issue!

Vehicle has had radiator cooling fan(s) failure(s) resulting in loss of power and overheating.

I was driving about 45 mile per hr. Then my ford flex started to stall so i had it towed to a near by repair shop , they lookedover my vehicle and they came to the conclusion, that the water pimphad failed and coolant enteredthe block, so there for the engine needed to be replace. We are now in the process of the repair invoice 369486 02/28/2020

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated while his wife was driving 55 mph, the vehicle shifted independently into neutral. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver pulled over on the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted and driven to her destination. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer safford ford lincoln of salisbury located at 1902 n salisbury blvd, salisbury, md 21801, (443) 210-4835, and was diagnosed. The contact was informed that an unknown part needed to be replaced along with a software update. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

When driving and the car begins to accelerate past 40mph the car shudders and jerks. This has been going on for over a year. The ford dealer test drove it and couldn't duplicate what i experience often.

Check engine light went on and when diagnosed it was one of the oxygen sensors.it had to be replaced in order for the rest of the safeties to operate properly.it was a defective part that cost over $400 to replace.warranty was declined, however, the design life of the part must be in excess of 150000 miles.if this part were failing all the time, there would be a recall.my defective part was not replaced by ford as it should have been.there are no moving parts, it should not wear out.

Engine stumbled and then lost power. It re-started but idled at 750rpm. Car would not accelerate. Placing the car into neutral and depressing the accelerator did not increase the engine speed. This persisted about 3-4 minutes. Afterwards, the engine speed responded to the accelerator, and when placed in gear, accelerated normally. This has happened three times in the past year.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the engine stalled without the illumination of warning indicators on the instrument panel. The engine restarted and the vehicle resumed as normal. The failure occurred four times when driving at a low speed. The contact was in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

Part of my power in my car shut off on the freeway, at 1:39 pm at 67 degrees outside . I had been driving for 40 minutes.my dashboard went dark, and only my clock time was on.i glided to the side of the road, and was able to pull the car very hard to the right (as the power steering was off).then turned the key to off, waited 3 minutes turned the key and it went back on.it has not happened again.

My cradle is rusted through all the way to the lower control arm and has a visible crack. I'm told this is a safety issue and concern as well as a safety hazard when one can be injured due to the engine falling out to name one.i'm told by a mechanic this is a factory default.i am very concerned and would greatly appreciate some assistance with this matter.sincerely,[xxx]09/05/2020information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Drove 30 miles at highway speed.then in shopping mall engine quit suddenly at 20 mph without any warning. No power brakes, no power steering.it was if someone had turned off the ignition.i was able to muscle the car out of traffic and was thankful this sudden failure did not occur at speed or while making a turn across traffic. This seems to be a problem identical to those reported by other 09 flex owners, but ford ( or at least my local dealer) is not interested in addressing the problem.considering that the car had a loss of control, it is puzzling that this defect is not being taken more seriously. In terms of severity of the problem, this sounds like a '10'. The proposed fix is new throttle body, reprogram computer, clean injectors.since no fault codes appeared and since this is intermittent, the mechanical breakdown policy does not cover what is clearly a manufacturing defect on these early builds. So the problem is twofold: the car dies suddenly and the computer does not recognize this as a fault.

My daughter was driving on interstate at 70 mph when the flex totaling shut down.she had no power steering, brakes or lights.it started back up after a couple of hours and was giving bogus messages on the display.ford dealer says there are no codes showing up, so they won't be able to determine what caused this.we cannot drive anymore without knowing what happened, since it might happen again and would be very dangerous if going over a mountain pass at the time it happens.we live in montana.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that the driver was driving the vehicle and the coolant temperature light illuminated on the instrument panel. The driver stopped the vehicle and noticed that it was overheating. The driver also noticed that the air conditioner failed. The vehicle was able to be driven to the residence after resting for thirty minutes. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was 65,000.

Car stalled at low speed.started again when stopped and in park.during event, no power steering / brakes available.not a safe condition.

2009 ford flex pcm. While accelerating off ramp onto interstate, mph 70, the ford begin to shank violently then suddenly stops.............. In the middle of traffic/interstate in the middle lane at 70 mph. Flex goes to shop and 3 coils are melted, converter needs to be replaced, and pcm needs to replaced.this is a serious hazard and needs to be looked into as there are many many post and complaints about the pcm. The safety of the flex and it's passengers are in grave danger when this happens as it is out of no where.70 mph on an interstate at a sudden stop will kill someone. No check engine light appears until after the fact. This is a ford malfunction that needs to be recalled by ford and addressed instead of tsb's before an individual is seriously hurt.

This vehicle experienced failure of both radiator cooling fans. The engine entered reduced power mode due to high temperature while my wife was entering a busy street. Just prior to this the vehicle had been idling for approximately 10 or 15 minutes. Temperature light did not illuminate until engine entered reduced power mode. Check engine light did not illuminate. Loss of power without warning could be very dangerous under certain conditions. After some research i have found that this is not an isolated incident. Usually the first sign of a problem is the air conditioner blowing warm air when stopped and engine is at an idle.ford has the customer satisfaction program (#12b36) that is covering the repairs regardless of mileage for the same problem on 2011 and 2012 ford flex vehicles at no cost to owners. The 2009 and 2010 model years are excluded from this program. A letter was sent to 2011 and 2012 flex owners offering this repair.both fans have been tested and found to be inoperative. Fan control module appears to be ok. I spoke to ford customer service today (case #[xxx]) 01/21/13, and they verified that the customer satisfaction program (12b36) is covering 2011 and 2012 model flex vehicles. An internet search shows that other models may also be covered.i believe this program should cover the 2009 and 2010 model vehicles for safety reasons or a maybe a safety recall should be considered. I will be purchasing a new fan assembly and installing it myself but have no way to reprogram the pcm to help prevent this from happening again. I will also take the vehicle to the dealer to have them inspect it before replacing the fan assembly as asked by ford customer service. 2009 ford flex (less than 8000 miles) suddenly stopped running while i was driving around a curve on a road at about 20 to 30 miles per hour.lost power steering.engine light, battery light and oil light came on.car restarted after i stopped it on the side of the road.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While making a right turn in an intersection the vehicle unexpectedly stalled and the engine shut off.the driver was able to restart the vehicle; however, surprised that a new vehicle experienced a failure. There was no mention of warning lights being illuminated. The vin is not available. The current and failure mileages were 60.

Engine dies while idling at a stop while facing forward on an uphill grade. Vehicle was taken to dealer last year who performed a computer check and found no problem. However, the problem occasionally persists and could, in my opinion, present a safety issue.

Several complaints:first the a/c makes a popping noise when turned on. It works fine as of now though.second, drivers side 2nd row seat will not fold down 99% of the time. It's stuck somehow.third, gas light no longer works.fourth is the biggy. Car is overheating due to radiator fan's no longer working. It runs hot when idling or moving at a slow pace. This has happened multiple times during the hot, summer months of 90*+ and i have a two and a four year old. Three days ago it happened in 20* weather with a wind chill of below zero on the side of the interstate with my husband being my nearest help who was 45 minutes away. My children were crying after just 10 minutes or less that they were freezing and that their toes hurt. But what am i to do on the side of the interstate? i have contacted ford several times and it's always the same answer "there is no recalls. Take it to your nearest ford dealer". I found out at the end of last year that we have an extended care plan. It's currently all being repaired under the plan, thank goodness, with only a $100 deductible and a rental car. We're very fortunate in that aspect. I feel as though this should all be a recall due to the amount of people having these same problems, especially the overheating. Nobody should be having to pay a dime out of pocket to fix these issues. However, ford could care less. They got their money from the purchase of the vehicles and obviously could care less about safety and making things right. When people ask how i like my flex. My reply is "originally i loved it, now i hate it" and i tell them exactly why if they ask, which is every time. First and last ford. Bad company all the way around.

Vehicle running sluggish approx. 3 weeks prior. Check engine light warning came on and immediately took vehicle to ford for a diagnostics check. Vehicle had a code p0422, test ran verified evaporative system leak. I was told it was a safety issue and not drivable. Fuel filler pipe was cracked and needed replacement. Ford has prior recalls for this part over the years, although ford did not cover this repair. 1 week prior one of two engine fans went out requiring replacement.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, smoke was seen coming from the air vents. The vehicle was then pulled over and then driven slowlyback to the contact's residence. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a service done due to the check engine light illuminating. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 88,000.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, the cooler fan failed to operate. As a result, the vehicle overheated as the radiator warning light illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to dealer. The technician diagnosed that the cooling fan needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that thebrakes were grinding. The contact had to replace the brake pads and the rotors four times. The contact also stated while driving in the rain all of the lights start flickering and a burning smell was emitted into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanicwho diagnosed that water overflowed into the engine because of the way the vehicle was designed causing the serpentine belt to come off, as a result the battery was over heating and the vehicle was loosing power. The battery had to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 44,000.

2009 ford flex. Engine dies while driving without any warning. The problem is intermittent but certainly present in numerous 2009 ford flex vehicles. Follow this link: http://www.fordflex.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=711this incident has happened to me twice. The dealer was supposed to have fixed the problem after the first occurrence.

2009 ford flex cabin area fills up with carbon monoxide and catalytic converter smell on acceleration such as passing gear, getting into traffic from an on ramp, etc. Ford's repair was replacing baffles at the end of the exhaust system that they suspected were remaining closed on significant acceleration. Dealership performed repair but it made no difference. If windows are not rolled down to allow the exhaust gases to exhibiit the cabin area slight headache and burning of the eyes ensues. This problem seems to occur on about 1 out of 4 ford flexs and a solution has not been engineered. This is an important safety/health issue that needs to be addressed.

I feel there is a safety defect in the model of the 2009 ford flex with a dvd system. When the monitor is in use there's an obstruction of view for the driver. It is quite difficult to see out of the rear view mirror when the monitor is in use. I have tried adjusting the driver seat and i can not find a position where there is not an obstruction of view for the driver.

The issue that has recently cropped up on our flex is the fuel meter will read sufficient fuel for approximately 50 miles and then, in a matter of miles, the tank seems to run dry/indicate no miles left.on this particular date i was driving the car it indicated 49 miles to empty. After 3 miles it ran out of gas.fortunately i was on a side street and not the highway.this behavior could have been fatal if i was operating on a highway.i am not the only one having this issue.please seefordflex.net for additional cases as an example:http://www.fordflex.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9449&sid=6d4b835271d1154c67fcd43967cb2906.

There is not a fuel filter on my ford flex, why not?

Vehicle running sluggish approx. 3 weeks prior. Check engine light warning came on and immediately took vehicle to ford for a diagnostics check. Vehicle had a code p0422, test ran verified evaporative system leak. I was told it was a safety issue and not drivable. Fuel filler pipe was cracked and needed replacement. Ford has prior recalls for this part over the years, although ford did not cover this repair. 1 week prior one of two engine fans went out requiring replacement.

The fuel gauge will read between 1/2 and 1/4 tank then immediately make a *ding* and the display reads 0 miles. The fuel gauge will drop to empty. If you drive anything further than a short distance (10 miles or so) the car will die. It is "out" of fuel. Refilling the tank you will find that the vehicle still has whatever fuel the gauge was showing before it dropped to zero. It is consistent, it does this every tank. Appears to be getting worse as time goes on.

Traveling at 70mph the fuel gauge indicated slightly over 1/4 of a tank left and the estimated miles to empty with the mileage-to-empty estimate indicating approximately 70 miles left. Then in under two minutes to when i checked the dash again, the gauge had dropped to zero with the estimator showing 0 as well. Within the next mile the engine ran out of fuel. To fill up the 18.6 gallon fuel tank it only took approximately 14 gallons at the pump. This indicates that approximately 4.6 gallons of fuel were still remaining in the tank. Since this model uses a fuel tank design with two sumps the fuel isn't transferring from the one side to the other where the fuel pump is located. This can cause dangerous driving conditions for someone expecting to have one quarter of their fuel tank left.

Our 2009 ford flex has shut off on 4 occasions while we were driving since nov. 2013 (11/29/2013, 12/18/2013, 12/28/2013, 4/15/2014). On 3 of the 4 occasions we were on interstate highways (495 in ma, 95 in ct, 81 in pa) which was scary and could have been deadly. On 2 of the 4 shut downs the car would not restart so we had to be towed. We noticed that once the car was taken off the flatbed, it started right up. That tells me that the gas must have moved to where it was needed. On each occurrence the gas gauge read half a tank or just slightly below. The car just shut off which made it difficult to steer. Luckily we were able to coast to the breakdown lane and weren't in speeding, heavy traffic. On 12/21/13 the dealership replaced the throttle body. On 12/28/13 the car shut down again and was towed to the dealership. The fuel sender concern was verified, fuel level was inaccurate, the left hand fuel sender was erratic. They removed the fuel tank, replaced the left fuel sender. On 4/15/14 the car shut down again. The dealership found that the right side of the gas tank was empty while the left side was full. The fuel sender assemblies were removed and the right one was not reading properly. The fuel pump module was also replaced. We do not trust this car and are afraid for the next owner when we trade it in or sell it. Is this a design flaw?

Engine stalls despite fuel gauge reading 1/4 tank in reserve. Fill up confirms that there is in fact 1/4 tank left. Has happened several times now.

Traveling at 70mph. Urge fuel gauge indicated slightly over 1/4 of a tank left and the estimated miles to empty with the mileage-to-empty estimate indicating approximately 100 miles left. Then in under two minutes to when i checked the dash again, the gauge had dropped to zero with the estimator showing 0 as well. Within the next mile the engine ran out of fuel.to fill up the 18.6 gallon fuel tank only took 2.5 gallons from the jug and another 11.5 gallons at the pump for a total of 14 gallons.

Vehicle does not recognize last quarter tank of fuel. Once it reaches approximately a quarter tank left, the fuel gauge and miles to empty display drop suddenly to empty and the car shuts off. When refueling after it shows empty, it only accepts about 3/4 tank. The fuel is there, but inaccessible. This is a major safety issue as the car dies very suddenly when the system decides there's no fuel left. It has happened on the interstate, other highways, and on a rural road where finding enough fuel to get going again was a big problem. Dealership replaced fuel sensors, but said there was no code showing while the car was still under warranty. Now i'm stuck randomly replacing fuel system pieces in hopes of figuring out which piece is broken. Each time i spend hundreds of dollars to "fix" it, the problem repeats as soon as i get through most of the first tank of fuel. Position of vehicle doesn't matter. Uphill, downhill, etc, it always happens close to a quarter tank of fuel left.

Gas gauge will read between 14 to 1/2 tank of fuel then without warning drops to e and car dies. Faulty fuel sensor or pump due to saddlebag tank design. Also no cutout in floorboard to access the secondary sensor or pump. There is still about 4 or 5 gallons of fuel in the tank but the car thinks it is empty.

Driving on highway and had 1/4 tank of fuel left when low fuel warning beep sounded. Fuel gauge was suddenly at "e" and display said 0 miles until empty. Immediately pulled into a gas station. Gas pump shut off after filling only 14.5 gallons, although tank capacity is 18.6 gallons.

Fuel gauge reading drops suddenly from 1/4 tank to empty in a matter of seconds, not allowing time to get out of traffic.happened numerous times but so far only when the vehicle has been in a position to pull off the road (on single lane roadway, or in the right hand lane. Has beed at highway speeds, and on residential area.

The ford panel near the driver and passenger window continues to come apart. As far as the vehicle's fuel. The first time i was at a gas station. I put gas in my car. I got back in the vehicle and my gauge was still on empty. So i got worried. Then i went to a different gas pump and put more gas in there. I started my car and it was still on empty. I drove around the parking lot to see what would happen and about 2 minutes later my gas gauge was 3/4 full. This was in november. Then about 5 times after that. I will be on the last mark before empty and not only does it go from 80-70 miles to e to complete 0 miles, but my gauge goes from that mark to pass the e. I was driving my vehicle and it went from that same mark ( the mark right before the e) and just ran out of gas. I have took it to the shop twice and that can't find a code. They said if it happens again then bring it back in. But the inconvenience i have to wait until i have time. It happened today feb 10 2014 and i raced to a gas station. I don't want it to happen and i'm driving in traffic and have an accident because my gas gauge is wrong and i stop in the middle of traffic. I don't want to get stranded somewhere either because i have a kid. I have seen same complaints about this vehicle. So i'm very concerned.

Car said '15 miles to empty' and gauge needle was just below a quarter, then needle dropped to empty and computer estimate went down to '3 miles to empty' within a mile..then shut down and limped off road. Left me stranded on the side of a busy city freeway in a very dangerous location, until i could get someone to bring gas to refuel. Repeated this the next time the gas was down to a quarter tank. I watched it carefully and saw it recalculate from approx 15 to empty, to 0 in less than 4 miles. Got to a gas station in time before the car shut off. Now i fill it up at 50 miles until empty to avoid running into this issue.just to illustrate, another owner made a video of the same situation happening to them:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwamobvhguq

As has been reported many time on here and in the flex forums, the vehicle will suddenly stall at a 1/4 tank of gas for no reason. I was traveling down the interstate at high way speed when the fuel gauge dropped to e and the miles to empty read 0. This has happened three times. I called one of my local dealers who insisted they have never heard of this problem and nothing was done. There advice was to not let the car get to a 1/4 of a tank. They have no fix for this dangerous problem.

The car will cut off and think its out of gas. When my car has 1/8 it goes from 50 miles to 0. Then runs out of gas. If i fill up it will say 322 tip empty but only getting 225 out offill tank of gas. I been having the issue since i purchased car in 2011. The fuel pump sending unit has to be replaced with jet pump.

I have a ford flex limited 2009, the tailgate closes by touching a button.when closing it beeps. If it hits something it is suppose to open back up.similar to a garage door.my 7 year old child didn't realize it was closing and was struck by the door, pushing her to the ground causing a bump on her head.meanwhile, the tailgate never stopped closing.i stood under it with my hands over my head pushed the button to see how much pressure it takes to activate the safety.the amount of pressure was amazing, if my 3 year old had gotten inbetween the tailgate closing and the bumper it would of done some major damage to him.it should have a more sensitive safety mechanism.

Vehicle stop running no power.

1) driving at steady speed.2) let up on gas pedal and car did not slow down. Occurred twice in three times that vehicle was borrowed from a friend; one time with a witness.3) pulled my foot completely off floor and applied brake; problem (in my opinion) is poor pedal orientation which leads one to believe that gas pedal is no longer pushed when one just lets up on pressure on gas pedal, along with too lite of pedal return pressure.have been told ford is aware of this but feels it only happens if someone is wearing big and heavy work boots.my incidents happened with running shoes...and i only wear a size 10.

Driving car, stopped at traffic light, or leaving places the transmission will not engage when put into drive. It gets stuck and won't move. This is very dangerous as i have almost been hit from behind when this happens. I have to put in park and try again and it sometimes shifts or makes a loud cluck and jerk. Happens off and on. Took into the ford dealer couple of times and they said they could only determine what the problem is if it does it with them. Never does it whenin the shop. The dealer acts as if they have no idea however i have read from several people that they have had the same problem with 2009 ford flex. I believe the transmission is the same as on the 2015 ford transit vans because the same issue is happening with it. I have talked to my mechanic and they have heard of this problem too and told me to take the flex into the dealer. They have found documentation online this transmission issue not shifting has happened several times. Most recently february 21, 2019. Seems to occurs when the vehicle is warmed up.

Transmission. When the temperature is 40 degrees or below i sometimes have an automatic transmission problem. In the morning after the vehicle was parked over night i start the vehicle, put it into reverse, i back 40 feet down my driveway which has about a 30 degree grade down to the street.. I stop on the street, put it into drive and turn to the right to proceed forward up the street with about 10 degree grade for about 300 feet, then the street has about a 15 degree grade for the next 200 feet after which it has a 5 degree grade for 75 feet at which point there is a stop sign at a busy two lane cross street that is fairly level and has a 35 mph speed limit. I stop until the traffic gives me a 100 to 150 feet more break between passing vehicles so i can turn right, many times the engine revs to 4000 rpms but the vehicle accelerates vary slowly at picking up speed. I often travel 600 to 100 feet before i attain 25 mph. Then it shifts into the correct gear. I have had it to the dealer 3 years ago but the ford dealer charged to test it but found no problems. Four months later i took it to aamco who found a problem and repaired it, "they thought" replacing some parts. The same problem persists after the "repair".the excuse is that the car is warmed or the conditions cannot be reproduced. The ford dealer said that they cannot come 8 miles to my home in the morning to reproduce the conditions. The transmission fluid level has always been declared to be ok.

The power transfer unit (ptu) fails on a number of ford models.the seal leaks and in my case the unit needed to be replace because of metal shavings.the cost for repairs $2,600.

Car started 2 years ago with "stuttering" when driving between 50-60 mph, as if the car couldn't determine which gear to stay in. Had transmission flushed and refilled in april 2016. Problem was less but still remained. Added dr shutter in june 2016 to the transmission fluid and problem has went away, that was last year.paint on the hood is peeling and started out as a small chip may 2016, and is now the size of a 2 basketballs. Black body pieces that are between the windows on the side and in front by the windshield are loose and coming off.will provide photos if needed

My flex started making a little grinding noise when only turning right at first. Now it sounds really bad turning either way. And it shakes when accelerating.

This in reference to the transmission, i have had it looked at and no one can seem to narrow down the exact problem.the vehicle stalls while driving. After stopping and restarting the vehicle it hesitates and the kicks into gear and drives. This doesn't happen every day, but not knowing when the vehicle might stall is troublesome. There is tsb 11-12-10 that describes this problem, the ford dealerships do not have any safety recalls in reference to this.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While driving 35 mph, the front of the vehicle began to vibrate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front axle had an indentation and the rear brake caliper had bolts that detached. As a result, the axle and caliper needed to be replaced. In addition, the technician stated that the torque converter and transmission seal were leaking oil and the drive line and torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 101,946. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that whenever shifting into reverse, the transmission would jerk violently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer six times for the same failure. The technician detected a trouble code and an unknown repair was performed on the transmission. The malfunction recurred after the repair. The vehicle taken back to the dealer for further repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex.

As i am driving come to a stop. Proceed in motion making a left turn or right turn vehicle will lock up slowing down with grinding. Now this has happened 3 times on the road causing traffic to stop.

Transmission shifts very rough.while in motion.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle would no longer accelerate. The contact attempted to accelerate beyond 5 mph but the vehicle would not respond. The vehicle was pulled over and shut off. Upon restarting, the contact was able to continue driving normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that the all wheel drive and anti lock braking system engaged simultaneously, not allowing the vehicle to accelerate beyond 5 mph. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 30,500.

I bought my 2009 ford flex in june 2009. The first time i noticed a problem was in july 10, 2009. I was traveling down a residential street and was approaching a stop sign and doing appx 28mph when they car engine died. The steering wheel tightened up and the power brakes went out. I stopped the car as quickly as possible, and then started the car again. After that it ran just fine for a month. Then in august 2009, i was yet again going down a residential street and was approaching the stop sign going appx 28mph and the engine shut off again, the steering wheel tightened up and the power brakes went out. We took it to the ford dealer, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Then, it did the same thing to me again on monday september 28th 2009, this was the second time to bring it to a ford dealer. They hooked the troubleshooter up to it, and it didn't throw any codes that anything was wrong, so the dealership replaced the throttle body on the car. Since then it hasn'tstalled yet... But it was only put on less than a week ago. Hopefully it doesn't stall on me for a 4th time!!!!

In a head on collision with a parked vehicle traveling at approximately 45 to 50 mph none of the air bags were set off and the seat belt did not hold the driver back and he was thrown into the steering wheel bending the steering wheel and column.

2009 ford flex.second row passenger outboard shoulder safety restraint inoperable.no significant event occurred prior to the inop condition.child entering second row pulled seat belt from d-ring.belt cam out approximately 8 inches and stopped.the belt will not retract or pay out.this does not appear to be an alr lockout issue.

The driver's side seatbelt retractor is not releasing the belt when trying to buckle in prior to departing on a trip.this happens multiple times per day.i am concerned the seatbelt will not function properly in the event of an accident.when contacting ford about the problem i was advised that ford does not provide a lifetime warranty on its seatbelts!

The seatbelt buckle will not release the seat belt. Starts off with the release button sticking, after time the buckle button breaks and no longer is able to be used. The 3rd row buckle was first, now the driver's buckle is starting to stick.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that the driver's seat had reclined independently and failed to return to the upright position. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 129,000.

I purchased the vehicle new. It was repaired on three separate occassions for problems stemming from the windshield sensor as well as the molding was not correctly put on the door. Now the bench seat will not fold down. This appears to be a very apparant issue with this model according to this website http://www.fordflex.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5363 the car is three years old and has 59k miles on it but for a family with one child, this mechanism should not be dysfunctional. Its not as if it was getting a lotwear and tear from accessing the 3rd row seating area. Is ford reviewing these complaints?

The middle row bench seat will not fold down forward.i rarely use this seat to fold down as i have not reason to.however, when you depress the outer lever nothing happens. The seat doesnt move by either the lever or strap. It did seem stiff when i bought the car but i assumed it was due to the vehicle being new.not!

My 2009 ford flex limited fwd has less than 50k miles and the rear rotors has been replaced twice. They rusted away, corrosive brake fluid causes rust. My dealer keeps saying that all flex vehicles have this problem.

Whiledriving ford flex on highway or in town my antibrake system randomly activities causing my entire vehicle to stop. This has happened more than three times and i have complained to ford red mccombs dealership and they can't find nothing wrong. I was billed about 225.00 dollars for a antibrake switch and my car was not fixed. Yes, and i have complaint to ford dealership and made them aware of my continous brake problems with my ford flex vehicle.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While driving 10 mph and making a left turn, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the traction control and abs engaged. The vehicle failed to accelerate and coasted off the road. When the driver resumed driving, a grinding noise occurred from the front driver's side of the vehicle. While driving home, the failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was later taken to garber ford (3380 us-17, green cove springs, fl 32043, (904) 264-2442) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be located. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Purchased flex in 2009, day 1, 5 miles, station wagon has vibration. To this day, still has vibration. 58000 miles now.bbbautoline says it's out of coverage for arbitration.flex was in shop min 12x for same issue. Dealer and engineers said bad brakes, the have put on 5 sets of pads and rotors.bad wheels, mine were the 17" style, now i have 19" limited wheels, very expensive tires.still vibrates....one 3 day service stop at varsity ford , a@$$$$@ tech or mechanic drove miles to the tune of 750!!!!! and i wasn't supposed to be upset.....test driving it..... Ok, 12,000 miles, on new 19" hankook junk tires, optimo, they were bald, dealer says i have to replace myself, a 60,000 mile tire, lol on me.31000 mi, dealer says don't bring back, we can't fix.... And said it's a lemon,go arbitrate it out, we know it's a bad car, but we can't get you a new one. 35,000 miles, spouse taking kids to daycare, turns corner, says she heard something pop, and she could not steer, hit a parked car.... After looking with police, i have video and photo proof, inner tie-rod snapped, causing the accident.so, 4,000$ of damage to my car, from a tie rod not being installed right.there was an inch of play, up and down, side to side, on the outer tie rod, from not being installed correctly at the factory, hmmmmmm, made in canada.so now, after accident, car fixed, i thought for sure, it would be a whole new driving vehicle? shat not! 58,000 now,and vibrating like an off balance washing machine.and bbb and ford arenot taking any responsibility.all i wish was for a flex that drove smoothly. ....

Took car to tire merchant to replace tires.they reported to me a problem with right rear brake.piston is fully retracted out, and brake pads have abnormal wear relative to others on car.suggested that i contact dealer for replacement of brake caliper.also reported that they contacted napa, and were told that napa had received many reports of right rear brake caliper issues on 2009 flex, and in fact, napa has part on indefinite back order.part also on back order at ford (only for right rear brake, apparently defect isolated to this brake), although placed order for part today.told that there was no recall although there was a service bulletin so i would be responsible for all costs of replacing defective part since my car recently went out of warranty.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the pedal traveled to the floorboard numerous times. The dealer (ganley ford west, 16100 lorain ave, cleveland, oh 44111, (216) 941-9800) replaced the brake system four times. The dealer stated that there were internal failures with the front and rear brake system (anti-rotation pin, adjuster spring, spring seat, piston seals, slider frame, anti-rattle clips, slider pins, and caliper frame). The failure continued. The brakes had been replaced every 20,000 miles. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. There was no recall for the brakes. The manufacturer made a recommendation to have the dealer replace the parts again. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

Exiting hwy at 50 mph, hit brake.hard brake pedal-no brakes followed by engine full throttle acceleration-vehicle was sent to the ford dealer in oct for a check eng light that couldn't be extinguished.computer was reflashed with basic prom.no other issues until accident

I purchased a 2009 ford flex from mike dorian ford that had 14000 miles on it. Two days after purchase i took it to a dealer for a bad grinding sound in the brakes. They performed a tsb on the front brakes. I took it back several more times for braking issues. Then the car came to a grinding stop in traffic several time and i almost got hit. I took it to 2 different dealers complaining about the violent shaking and the inability for it to go when i gave it gas. Finally after this happened several time i was hit as the transmission brought the car to a halt. I suffered injuries and the car had $15000 worth of damages. The person who hit me sued my insurance company. The dealership had my car for four months and never looked at the back brakes or transmission. I took it back 6 times for a leaking transmission and several other issues that were not fixed. This vehicle continues to come to a stop after trying to go from a dead stop. I almost got hit by a semi truck. My wife will not ride in the car because she feels we will die in this car. Ford has done nothing about this problem. I talked to a ford mechanic who told me it was a transmission problem yet ford has never even looked at the transmission. I feel i am going to be killed in this car. After $15000 of damages i have lost all value to the vehicle and my insurance has been raised. I later found out there is a tsb for the transmission yet ford has never even looked at it.

Purchased vehicle new in may 2009. Vehicle had to go in for brake repairs 10 days after i took delivery of the vehicle. Brakes have been repaired a total of 7 times since i purchased it. On sept 18, 2013 the brakes seized when i attempted to stop at a traffic light.

2009 ford flex-complete brake failure after sitting for a period of time at high-altitude.brakes had felt spongy other times but we thought it was due to icy parking lot-as after driving a bit brakes felt ok.this time brakes failed completely resulting in property damage. Car towed to local ford dealership -- they told us the brakes were fine and there have been no issues with brakes on the ford flex--which after researching we know to be false.the brakes still do not feel right upon start-up-brake pedal goes further down before stopping; we now wait a period of time before driving--we are afraid to drive car but don't have the money to purchase a different automobile-and don't want to pass a dangerous car to another family.

At my last service at my dealership, i was informed that my rear brakes were worn out and needed replacing while my front brakes were still in good condition.

Had grinding noise in front brakes, just like a stone had got jammed between the brake pad and rotor. Right front wheel locked up momentarily one time. Had it back to dealer twice but they could not see a problem. Finally after the front wheel locked up they replaced the front brake rotors and brackets but i had to pay 139.00 for the new pads had approx. 33000k on vehicle, they did find a service notice this last time. *ln

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the brakes seized. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the brakes were defective. The brakes were replaced. Since the repairs were performed, the contact stated that only the rear brakes functioned and the thermostat would intermittently display very high temperature readings. The vehicle was not taken back to have the additional failures diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 20,000.

I have a 2009 ford flex with 41,000 miles.the rear brakes completely wore out with over 50% life left on the front.this is impossible unless there was a problem with the brakes hanging up when sold.the service charge was $511.34.the brakes were repaired.fortunately the failure of the rear brakes did not result in any consequential damage.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, the odor of fuel was present coming from the vehicle. After parking inside the garage, there was fuel leaking from the seam of the fuel tank on the passengerā€™s side. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. Also, while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal would extend to the floor and the vehicle would not immediately stop. The contact determined that the brake booster was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and an unknown dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

Brake grinding and shudders from front disc brakes and sometimes rear disk brakes. Ford has a long ongoing problem with the disk brakes on ford flex's. Several tsb's have been issued. However it seems like no parts are being sent to dealerships to take care of this problem.

While the vehicle was parked, the contact observed that the brake pedal extended to the floor.the failure also occurred when the vehicle was in motion; however, he was able to stop the vehicle after rapidly applying pressure to the brake pedal. The vehicle was towed to the dealer approximately 4 times to have it diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer has attempted to diagnose the failure for two weeks. The dealer also confirmed that they would notrepair the vehicle although the warranty is valid. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 126000.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex limited. The contact stated that the brake light failed to illuminate when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the auxiliary relay was detached from the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was 46,000.

This is the third time the power steering has failed in this vehicle. I was driving 60 mph and without warning the steering seized. Luckily i was driving in right lane and was able to get vehicle safely to a lot. There was no warning, no noises, no dashboard lights came on. The steering became very tight and was extremely difficult to turn the wheel.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle became extremely difficult to steer. After a few minutes the steering wheel operated normally.the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the cause for the failure could not been determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 77,000.

"takata recall" when i am driving my 2009 ford flex to 30 or 40 mph the sterring wheel turns to the right by itself making a dangerous move and i almost bumped into another car.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the wheels intermittently and independently seized. The contact had to depress the accelerator pedal repeatedly to unlock the steering wheel. The dealer and manufacturer were both made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000.

Wheels get stuck and it seems like i'm driving in an icy road.also it turns off all of a sudden when i'm driving.

Experienced a total loss of power steering. No codes/warning lights were shown. Power steering fluid was filled properly, and there were no leaks found. Thankfully this didn't occur at a higher speed as this is a terrifying safety concern. A message board was found with at least 6 pages full of people that experienced the same exact problem (http://www.fordflex.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10080). This issue needs to be addressed before someone dies!

Was driving onto ramp and steering became harder to drive and there was a humming sound.

Steering: i have had issues with my steering, we have had the rack and pinion replaced, steering pump and steering belt. My problem is still not fixed. The steering is really hard and then likes to break loose at any given moment. This has almost caused me to wreck several times. There is a recall on newer model ford flexs. I think they all need to be recalled before someone gets hurtor killed!

At slow speeds the power steering goes out and it becomes very difficultto turn the car.trying to leave and navigate parking lots and small side streets becoming dangerous as the car is very hard to turn

June 10, 2015-everything was fine, parked the car.got back in car, backed up put it in drive and couldn't turn the steering wheel.ever since when turning right or left at slow speeds it is very very very hard to turn the wheel.if i am tuning like a curve on the highway, there is no problem.but stop lights and stop signs and the what not are about impossible anymore. So it seems when not going fast enough the steering is in manual mode.

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While driving 15 mph and making a left turn something broke off of the vehicle under the right rear wheel. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated the rear sub frame was broken and will be replaced under warranty. The manufacturer was notified and confirmed that the vehicle would be repaired per the warranty. The failure mileage was 24,000.updated 02/11/11 the tie rod was also replaced. Updated 05/06/11

2009 ford flex hood out of alignment, middle seat are electronic and would fold down. But when took to dealer they worked. Headliner is held on by magnets. This is in the one that has the sky lights in all three rows of seats. Ford told the dealer to put vecro to hold it up.by the way they have now had the car two days. Pick it up drove home still snap, took it back, they called and said vecro did not hold either. So now i have a rental car. This car was a demo with 5,000 miles on it.my wife and i put 200 on and discovered this issue. Other than the head liner, this is a very sweetca very roomy. Lets hope dealership can fix the issue.

The paint on the roof starting peeling. I called the dealership since i still had a warranty and they told me it didnt cover paint. It started with a small spot but it continued to flake and is not about the size of a softball. There are now 3 spots like this on the roof. This is the 2tone paint with a silver roof.

Water does not drain from the cowl vent drain area, and if cowl area is full, clogged water will enter into the passenger side floor. Sloshing water can be heard behind instrument panel/fire wall area. Cannot clean drains in that area. This problem could lead to electrical shortage and component failure.

My ford flex 2009 was parked at work went on break to my ford flex open drivers door crab what i need closed door and back rear window shattered out into peace's not sure what caused it. Has there been any recalls for this incident with ford

Our flex was previously used, but purchased through a ford dealership.after owning it for about one month, the 2nd row glass roof cracked on both sides.we informed the dealership, and we were told the there was a recall already in the works for the flexs that had 2nd and 3rd row glass ceiling panels.the glass is not cracked on the inside or on the outside.....so it appears that there are 3 panes of glass.after waiting and waiting, we have now noticed that the 3rd row has cracked as well. No one has seen or heard it happen, but because the exterior and interior are still in tact, we feel that this has to be a flaw in the body shape.and now almost 3 years have gone by, and the dealership still says there is a recall coming.can anyone help?

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. The contact stated that he had a leaking vista roof and the dealer does not know how to repair the problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for the repair and the roof continued to leak. The ford manufacturer was not called. The failure mileage was 8,000.

Whiledriving ford flex on highway or in town my antibrake system randomly activities causing my entire vehicle to stop.

My 2009 ford flex blow cold air when heat is on.does not allow windows to defrost causing a hazard.this happens when driving and idling.this happened last yr. As well but seems worst this yr.

Electric system

I was driving down the interstate and my sunroof exploded. There wasn't anyone in front of me so a rock or something could not have been kicked up and nothing could have blown off a vehicle and hit me. The sunroof just exploded for no apparent reason

This is the second door handle that has become lose.the passenger side is loose.today the drivers side broke and fell completely off.this same door handle is recalled on the ford explorer and other models but not on the flex.that is ridiculous and unfair.they are defective.

Started hearing noises and smelling fumes transfer case was bad. Had to replace with a new one and there are thousands of complaints and possible lawsuits on the internet.

Takata recall the air bags are off and the airbag light flashes sometimes when driving it comes in my dashboard tho remove all objects from behind the passenger sit or driver sitwhen there is nothing there and now it doesn't wanna acelrate my car at all it parked now for 3 months

As i am driving come to a stop. Proceed in motion making a left turn or right turn vehicle will lock up slowing down with grinding. Now this has happened 3 times on the road causing traffic to stop.

We bought our used flex in march 2015, and initially loved it.once hot weather hit and we needed to use the ac, we no longer love this car.when sitting still at a red light, the air conditioner immediately fails and begins to blow warm air.i did some research online and found this to be a common problem with this model.as i can't afford to take it for the repair, i became used to turning off the air at every intersection. Last weekend (july 25, 2015), we were stuck in very slow moving traffic on the parkway - going no more than 10mph at most for approx. 30 mins, so of course we had to turn the air conditioner off in the 90+ degree heat.the temperature gauge normally runs around the half way point.it was not a gradual rise, but a sudden one to where the gauge was pegged at "h" and the warning light came on.we had a car full with my husband and myself, and 4 children - in bumper to bumper traffic in the midst of construction.we turned the heat up to 90 and turned the fans full blast to relieve some heat of the engine.that was not pleasant when the outside temp was already over 90! once we cleared the construction and got back to regular speed, the gauge dropped back to normal like nothing had ever happened. We've had it looked at since, and found that the fans on the radiator never kick on.ever.during normal operation, especially when the car is hot, it should kick off and on often.the fans never come on.this is a huge and dangerous issue with this car! this should've been a recall and taken care of by ford. This is not likely to be a "cheap" fix.ford needs to stand by their vehicles and cover such a major issue that is not isolated to just a few cars.

My transmission is popping really bad went on line and there is the same problem with the transmission there is a bunch of owners having the same problem

Upon moderate to heavy acceleration the cabin fills with carbon monoxide (exhaust fumes) post catalytic converter. If cabin is not quickly ventilated by opening all windows the eyes are irritated and a very strong rotten egg smell results indicative that the exhaust is entering the cabin area after the catalytic converters. The vehicle has been serviced by two ford dealerships who replaced the cabin vent baffles. This however did not fix the problem. Ford concedes it is a problem that still exists on 25% of all flex models but refuses to mitigate the problem even though under warranty. The danger of this amount of exhaust gases poses a health and safety issue however ford engineers have yet to resolve the issue and it still exists on later models.

My ford flex 2009 was parked at work went on break to my ford flex open drivers door crab what i need closed door and back rear window shattered out into peace's not sure what caused it. Has there been any recalls for this incident with ford

While braking and parking my vehicle, my vehicle had unwanted acceleration. Going as high as 120mph and holding the brake the vehicle was still moving. I had to hurry and shift into park and turn off my vehicle. Other times this has happened while coming stop and it would go up to about 40mph and i would desperately hold the brake scared i would hit someone

Takata recall the air bags are off and the airbag light flashes sometimes when driving it comes in my dashboard tho remove all objects from behind the passenger sit or driver sitwhen there is nothing there and now it doesn't wanna acelrate my car at all it parked now for 3 months

The windshield defrost does not clear the windshield when turned on this winter. The fan blows ok. The fan belt is ok.this is a safety problem.

My ford flex 2009 was parked at work went on break to my ford flex open drivers door crab what i need closed door and back rear window shattered out into peace's not sure what caused it. Has there been any recalls for this incident with ford

Headlights randomly turn off after a few minutes. This occurs while in manual mode and in automatic mode. Turning the know to "off" and back to "on" restores the lights to working condition. While the headlights turn off, the parking lights and fog lights stay on most of the time. We had one occasion where all front end lights stopped working - especially concerning as we we re driving at night, in complete darkness on a rural road.

This ford model, and a few others, includes a layer of acoustic glass in the windshield. This material is a screen pattern displaying a definite brownish color cast. A fair estimate is a reduction of 15 percent in forward overall visibility. Plus changes in color definition and contrast, which from an extreme experience, can be described as a gray sky, a gray truck and gray pavement merging in morning distance to become a serious hazard at interstate speeds.it becomes a situation of total potential disaster in a fog or smog situation.all the above comments are based on personal experience. Color photographs are available to demonstrate color shift and loss of visibility. Neither ford, nor carlite (maker of the windshield) offer a "no acoustic" glass replacement. Local automotive glass service reports a "no acoustic glass"replacement is in the pre-production phase. Local ford dealer reports "no recall" on this serious problem. Ford motor company claims "not our problem....contact windshield maker (carlite)." your guidance will be appreciated.

Wheels get stuck and it seems like i'm driving in an icy road.also it turns off all of a sudden when i'm driving.

Wheel bearing failed before 60,000 miles and now at least one other is failing. If the wheel seizes, control of the car could be lost. I believe ford has purchasedpoor quality faulty bearings and should replace them for safety of drivers and others on road.

While driving down out of an approach, making a right turn, going maybe 5 mph, vehicle comes to screeching halt, making a terrible grinding noise. Engine does not go off, no stalling. Feels like something is interfering with wheels. Happened monthly, always out of a slightly down-facing driveway, turning right. Then about a week ago, it happened while making a normal left hand turn onto a flat street at an intersection going a little faster. Vehicle lurches to a complete stop, horrible grinding noise, and i can't go until i cansteer wheels straight which is really hard to do. Thank goodness no one was behind me. Took once to a mechanic who could find nothing wrong. Been doing this ever since we bought the vehicle. Now after the last incident, i am really scared to drive this car! &js

The contact owns a 2009 ford flex. While driving approximately 15 mph and towing a trailer, the front passenger side wheel seized as the contact attempted to accelerate. The contact continued to depress the accelerator pedal until the wheel regained normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 27,000.
