During the course of driving down the road the engine shut off and the truck lost all power.required steering off the highway and stopping with the loss of all power steering and brake assist.in traffic. Truck would not restart once was pulled off onto side of highway.if truck had been towing down a steep grade it would have been impossible to stop.upon having truck repaired it was diagnosed as a bad exhaust gas temperature sensor.

This truck has been an issue from the time we bought it. We have contacted ford multiple times and their response is "keep your receipts just in case." we have replaced the turbos both high and low end twice and they are starting to act up again. Traveling 60 mph down the road you lose all turbo pressure causing you to lose power. You have to pull over shut the truck off and re-crank it. The truck shuts off while driving without throwing a check engine light. The belt tensioner has separated coming down the highway shutting off complete power at 60 mph. About every 3rd time of filling up with diesel fuel we have to drain the water separator. When the regen system kicks in tremendous amount of diesel fumes come into the truck causing headaches with extreme lose of power. White smoke coming out of the tail pipe. The stock rim split on the driver front tire and the dealership wanted $1300.00 for one rim when a whole set of aftermarket rims are hundreds of dollars cheaper. Both front calipers have locked up at different occasions towing 1,000 lb trailerand one just driving down the road.all seals are leaking. Radiator is leaking. Rocker arms are tapping and cost $1700 to replace coming from a certified ford mechanic. We have had 3 dealerships tell us they don't want the truck and refuse to go look at it because of the motor. Its ashame the truck was a $55,000 truck brand new. 2 years old it valued at $40,000 and 2 years after its at $17,000 resale. Steering is all over the place when hitting seems or ruts in the road making the truck hard to control and very unsafe. This is by far the worst vehicle we have ever owned. Ford should be ashamed of putting such a unsafe vehicle on the road and not doing anything to help the customers that have wasted $55,000. Would you trust your kids in this vehicle? there has been 5 ford dealers tell us they don't even want it. 6.4l=junk.

Own a 2008 ford f250 super duty, with 5.4l engine. Attempted to change spark plugs, 2 plugs broke off in engine block.called local ford dealer, was informed plugs breaking off in head is a common problem. Truck towed to dealer, where ford technician attempted to extract broken plugs. End of 1 broken plug dropped into engine cylinder. Was informed by dealer repair will be ~$2,410.00, as head must be removed, to retrieve broken plug end. Called ford helpline, as instructed by service mgr.helpline confirmed engine design and spark plugs may break off during routine maintenance, and that `a special tool is required.' dealers received from ford, a technical service bulletin, alerting techs of the potential problem.the general public, unless employed by ford, wasn't made aware of this `special tool' requirement. Ford motor corp. Is not offering any financial assistance &/or reimbursement for this possible shoddy design (why else, then, the technical service bulletin, available only to dealers/)of spark plugs.the engine isn't consumer-friendly, for the consumer who doesn't or can't pay dealer prices to maintain their vehicle.

Randomly and without warning a green wrench light came on my dashboard while i was driving on a busy highway. Date was 12/1/2015. I lost power and had to pull over on the side of the highway. There was no power when i tried to accelerate. There was no response when i would step on the gas pedal. It was idling very rough, i turned off the truck waited a couple of minutes then tried to turn the truck on again and the wrench light cleared. It went back to "normal" and i was able to drive off the highway. I've read and also talked to other ford owners and they have said the same thing, it is the (pcm) powertrain control module. This could be very dangerous when you are driving on a busy highway. Note: i had my whole family with me.

2008 ford f450 6.4l turbo diesel problemsmy wife truck broke down on her with 137000 miles on it coming back from south carolina in july 2016.mechanics found metal shaving in the oil filter housing.long story short, had to have the long block replaced on the truck.15,000 dollars to fix this issue.appears we are not the only ones who are having this issue.three more people we know who just bought 2008 ford f450 sd 6.4l trucks have had the same issue.one families truck broke down on them three weeks after buying it on there way home from a horse show.same thing happen to the other family.common factor in all three stories...metal shavings in oil filter housing.none of the trucks were low on fluid.appears 6.4l engines having the same issues as 6.0l engines.investigation needs to be done on 6.4l issues and hold ford accountable to repair these engines or refund the money that was spent to fix these engines if repair has already been done.

I was pulling a horse trailer uphill, and engine began to overheat.a few days later when in my mechanics shop, i discovered that the radiator had cracked, and subsequent repair for new components was appx. $2k.within two weeks i began having issues again with overheating, and upon further research by my mechanic, we discovered that the oil cooler, and two egr coolers were defective, and this in fact had caused the original problem.my vehicle was a couple of months out of warranty, and ford refused to consider a warranty repair for this issue.this repair was an additional $5k.after speaking with several mechanics, including one that works for a ford dealer, we discovered that this is not an unknown issue for ford.there were previous issues with the 6.0 engine, which did receive a recall.they are now having the same issues with the 6.4 engine, but at this point have been unwilling to issue a recall notice.my belief is that ford is being unresponsive to an issue they are aware of, and which could cause a potential safety issue eventually with breakdowns along roads and freeways. *ln

I was traveling down a two lane road in my 2008 f250 pickup (diesel) on 26 jan 2016 about 35 mph, and came upon a stop sign. I released the gas pedal and started braking. The engine started accelerating, even though i was applying the brakes. The vehicle was in four wheel drive (high), so all four tires were spinning fast, and kept the vehicle moving forward. I stood on the brake pedal with both feet, and after going several feet into the intersection, it finally stopped. I quickly shifted into neutral, and a few seconds later the problem stopped. I then continued on my way.the vehicle had 37,062 miles.

My truck began cutting off on me while i was driving every now and then. Now it is doing it more and more. I had no idea what it was, so a couple of times i thought it might have been bad gas so i changed gasand starting using amoco gas and put fuel injector cleaner in my gas tank. That did not fix the problem. Now i am losing pressure while i am driving. I called ford motors and they told me that my vehicle is not a part of the recall, but my vehicle is doing the same thing that is in the recall. I called the ford dealership where i purchased the vehicle and was told that my vehicle was not a part of the recall and for $130.00 i could bring it in and get a diagnostic.there has been a malfunction indicator light on and the vehicle still stops on me on occasion. Please help before something tragic happens.

The radiator is leaking were theside tanks are attached to the core and both the upper and lower radiator hoses are leaking. When i had the pickup in the dealership for service i was advised that there was upgraded radiator hoses available. The dealership recommended i replace them to prevent hose failure. This would be at my cost, but clearly are factory defects. When i had several different local mechanics give me estimates and asked what the problem was, and told them what year and model ford i had they all described the same leaks in the radiators and hoses. So there appears to be a defect with the hoses and radiators of these year and models of fords. I called my local dealership and they said these problems would not be corrected by ford at this time. The estimate for the repairs is $1116.46. I contacted fords customer service and brought these problems to their attention but was told that ford did not have any warranty or programs to resolve these defective items. It is my opinion that if any company or business provides defective workmanship that it should be resolved by them. Apparently the auto repair shops and the dealerships are aware of the problems.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Throttle stuck in excel mode and excessive white smoke from tail pipe. Ford stated to look deeper into engine and stated they can not fine problem to vehicle. Instructed to buy new engine. This diesel engine should not had gone bad with 30, 000 miles on it. Was told this happens that 1% of the time although by the reviews this frequently happens with this motor. This vehicle needs to be recalled !

Truck has developed a radiator leak at 29,300 miles. Ford would only cover 3/36,000 warranty. 2008 my superduty trucks with the 6.4l diesel engines are notorious for leaking radiators and oem will not stand behind them.

The fuel tank lining is failing so we took the truck into the dealership. The corroding fuel tank liner has gummed up our fuel filter. While at the shop looking at this the dealership mechanic quickly pointed out that our radiator has a leak. He mentioned that it was a common problem and not covered by warranty. After looking into it further we found out that it is a common problem among ford superduty f450. This is the second truck (f450) that this has happened to and it cost ~$1,600.00 to fix. Ford refuses to cover this but the dealership knows its a common problem.

We are on our 4th engine at 67,000 miles.while we are driving, the truck will just shut down, start blowing out black and white smoke.we have no brakes, no steering and working in colorado it has happened while coming down mountains and hills.they've replaced every egr sensor at least twice, exhaust systems, the motor 4 times, you name it.ford continues to fix the problem under warranty but refuses to take the truck back - one of these days we will not be so lucky and someone will get hurt or even killed when it shuts down the next time!this truck has been in the shop so far a total of 150 days since we purchased it in may of 2009.it is currently in the shop for it's 4th engine after being in the shop for a week to replace sensors and gaskets.ford doesn't see this as a problem.

The rear brakes on my pickup failed.the rear calipers were sticking and the brakes overheated to the point of failure.failure of the rear brakes is a common and pervasive problem with ford f350 trucks of this model year. There needs to be a safety recall of these trucks.

Front brakes over heated saw, smoke on left front , stopped to find both front calipers were hanging up. Replace both calipers and brake fluid.

While approaching a light, the brake system failed entirely. I pulled over and noticed oil leaking from the passenger side caliper. I brought the vehicle home to determine what the issue was as now this is the second time this has happened. The previous incident was with the front caliper cracking which ford in mchenry illinois replaced. The caliper that failed this time was passenger right rear. The caliper piston is severely cracked. Have pictures and the part still. I am requesting this case to be escalated because this has happened twice now.

While in motion, more often on hot days, the brake calipers, in both the front and back, lock up and the truck needs to be left stationary until they release. The brake pads, calipers, and rotors have been changed numerous times. Ford will not take credit for faulty calipers when i explained the problem at 30,000 original miles. When i asked an experienced local mechanic about the problem, he explained that ford used two different types of metals in their calipers so they expand and contract at different rates, causing them to lock up.

While, driving the truck the steering erratically jerks in an over steering fashion. It is a repeating problem and is very dangerous.

I took my vehicle in for regular service to the local ford dealer and asked about a front end alignment because i had noticed that when driving straight my steering wheel had to be turned about 30 degrees counter clockwise.customer service rep told me that my vehicle was indeed out of alignment but barley and gave me the option to leave as is or repair...permission to repair and completed, on my way home i noticed that the steering wheel was again not correct and handling had not improved and decided ineeded to return when i had time off from work to get realigned and rechecked.a few days later while on my street, pulling into my driveway i had lost all steering and while attempting to regain control i heard a loud pop in or about my steering wheel area and my horn went off till i unhooked the battery.vehicle was towed to a 4 x 4 repair shop and i was informed that the steering gear box had failed and the clockwork spring mechanism had failed as well, probably while trying to regain control. The repair shop also told me that this has happened to other vehicles and that a service bulletin was issued with tech specs about it ( repairman was a former ford mechanic)total cost of repairs and labor was $1225.39. Not including original $69.95 alignment from ford.contacted ford motor company and explained to the customer service rep of the incident and cost of repairs...was told they could not find any records of such incidents, service bulletins nor recalls, so they would not offer reimbursement of any kind.i would like ford to acknowledge this inferior part and perform a safety recall, had i been driving on the interstate this incident may have proved to be fatal to myself, my family and those in the lanes around me.

My f250 when i was exiting foot on brake to slow down the steering wheel locked up and almost went off the road this is not the first time it has happened everytime i hit the brake and try to turn the wheel locks

On several occasions, while traveling at speeds between 60 and 70 mph on highways with potholes, i hit the potholes and immediately felt a violent shaking or shimmy in the front wheels. The shimmy occurs in which ever tire hits the hole and will stop as soon as i reduce speed to about 40 mph.there is no evidence of tie rod wear or any other repairable problems.

No accident has occurred yet but i am concerned.i have had a problem with "memory steer" on my 2008 ford f-250 super duty since there was less than 40,000 miles.it now has 49,000 miles and i have to muscle the steering into a turn then i have to muscle it back out again.every other vehicle i drive wants to return to center or a neutral position once i'm through the turn.i took it to a ford dealer a couple years ago to ask what was causing this issue and they said it could be the steering box or power steering pump. Now i see that the nhtsa is investigating the ford f-250 for steering failures and want to confirm if the vehicle is safe or unsafe to drive.i drive infrequently but when i do, it is at highway speeds...not a time when the steering should fail.if the nhtsa would like more information about the symptoms my f-250 is exhibiting for their investigation, please feel free to contact me.

The first time, i was making a left hand turn from an off ramp and completely lost control of the steering for approximately 3 seconds, the wheels were going from left to right. I immediately pulled to the side of the road to see if something was broke. I did not see anything. I limped to my mechanic shop and told him what happened. I left the vehicle with him for 2 days he was not able to duplicate the steering problem. He did do much research online and with one of his friends that is a mechanic at ford and he said it is a major flaw but, ford is not doing anything about it. I then called ford to see if they would do anything and they said they are not aware of a problem and it was out of warranty, so i would have to pay for any repairs, it has also happen 2 other times for a total of 3. I purchased the vehicle in april of 2014 and it had no car fax issues at all. I found out i am the 3rd owner of the vehicle and in the process of finding out who the other 2 are. I find it hard to believe that they did not have the same problem i am having, and did not take it back to ford due to the fact that is was still under warranty. And, mysteriously nothing comes up on car fax. Sounds to me like ford is hiding something. Please help before someone gets seriously hurt of killed.

I took my vehicle to a ford dealership for a steering problem that was getting progressively worse, and i believe it to be dangerous.they informed me there was an "internal failure" in the power steering gearbox.they cannot get a replacement part for an undetermined length of time due to it being on backorder.they warned against purchasing an "aftermarket" remanufactured part due to problems with them.i need my truck, and am at a loss as to how to get it fixed, and feel there is a safety concern.i don't believe ford should be aware of the vast number of these "failures," and not have a solution for owners of these faulty parts.

While making a turn in my 08 f250 i heard a click and my truck no longer will come back straight after a turn. It will either pull hard right or left. I have to stop on the side of the road and turn the wheel both directions to get the truck to drive straight again. Nearly drove into oncoming traffic and then off the road the first time it happened. It now happens every time i drive. Ford told me it would be covered under warranty, but the part was on back order. I followed up the following week with no response. It took me going to the ford dealership for them to tell me the backorder is 120 days! i explained its unacceptable and the truck isn't safe to drive. They told me they could try and aftermarket steering box. After two weeks they scheduled my appt. Only to tell me at 4:45pm on friday that the part they ordered won't fit and their giving me my truck back with the original faulty part. After i have researched this i have found numerous complaints for the same problem. I spoke with my ford dealership today only to be told they have no response for me other than waiting 120 days minimum for a steering box. Love having a $60,000 death trap in the driveway. By the way i also have had what people call the death shake in the truck happen well over a dozen times. I thought it was bad shocks and tires. They have all been replaced and it continues to happen. I won't let my kids drive with me in the truck anymore as a result. Even if they fix the steering box by christmas (4 months away) i don't feel safe driving it anymore. I love this truck, but refuse to die in it.

I purchased used in 2012 and it's always been very difficult to steer with a very wide turning radius. I've driven other fords at a local auction house same year/model that steer fine and turn tighter. I believe there is a defect in mine that's diminishing its safety and usability.

While travelling on a straight, slightly downhill, dry section of highway at a speed of approximately 40 miles per hour, an exaggerated shaking began on the passenger side front tire of the vehicle.this quickly became an almost uncontrollable bouncing of the truck.it became increasingly violent in jumping to the point it made it difficult to control the vehicle.i braked and slowed to under 20 mph when it stopped.pulled over, checked all, nothing out of sorts.no sign of mechanical failure or tire trouble.felt like flat tire at first.

Vehicle equipped with power retracting mirrors. Had my hand on the switch and on the door frame when i retracted the mirrors due to a narrow street in highlands nj. The mirror closed and crushed my finger between the door and the electric mirror assy. Will be seeking medical assistance for finger. Vehicle should be equipped with sensor not to allow this to happen. Could have been extremely dangerous to driver if i was going at a high rate of speed to the shocking pain caused when the mirror impacted my finger....

We purchased a used 2008 ford f250 super duty truck that had brand new tires just a few months ago from a dealership here in hawaii. (federal couragiam a/tlt 285/70r17) we also purchased a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty. Apparently defective tires are not included in this warranty. Tires are bubbling on inside sidewall. Took vehicle to tire service location and was told to replace tire immediatly. This was just a couple of weeks ago.now second tire doing same bubbling and needs to be replaced today. It has been recommended that all tires be replaced and are defective and dangerous. Could cause accident/injury/death.
