Ford f-250 super duty pick up truck caught fire while sitting inthe garage. Insurance vehicle arson investigator determined cruise control switch component was source of ignition in fire. Half my house burned down as a result of fire.

The dealership claims that ford has been experiencing problems with spark plugs just "blowing out" of the heads in newer ford vehicles.this causes the coil on top of the spark to shatter against the hood of the vehicle and the injectors continue to pump fuel into the cylinder.the coil is producing random sparking to any ground it can find.if a person didn't stop immediately, this condition might likelycause an engine fire.

Owner experienced power surge during thunder storm.as a result roof air unit,tv,radio, power monitor system, ventilater fans were affected. Yh

1999 ford f250 super duty diesel pickup (63k miles), truck would start with no dash cluster gauges or lights and no throttle response. I had the truck diagnosed at a local shop and scan tool indicated throttle control module which was replaced and still same problem persists. Had truck towed to local ford dealership and diagnosed as a fuse panel problem and ford highly recommends replacement of fuse panel due to a high risk of fire. I have spoken to several ford technicians and tell me this is common with the early ford super duties.

License plate lamp failure/ shorted out rear running lights,3rd brake light, dash lights, steering column lights.

I bought the truck new in 1999, and never had a problem until 2005 when the first spark plug blow. It cost me $520.00 to have it towed and repaired. The second time the plug blow (2007), it cost me $620.00 to have it towed and repaired. Yesterday (06/02/2012), it cost me $740.00 to have it towed and repaired. Since i have owned the truck i have been extremely happy with the performance, i have only replaced the alternator, which is great for most car & trucks. But! to have as much trouble with this engine and from what i have heard about the v10 & other ford truck engines ford should correct the problem & pay atleast half the cost! i love my truck, but if this continue (with the other seven plugs), i will have to look at gm. Come on ford.... Don't lose me!!

On my f-250 super duty the #4 spark plus blew out causing it to run bad and fuel fume to escape that could have caused a fire. Friend has had this happen 3 times so far. I've only driven 9,000 miles in the last three years because of the safety issue and the cost to repair it each time it happens at over 1000.00 dollars a hole x10 that uncalled for and unsafe.

Blown head gasket on right head leaking oil onto right exhaust manifold fumes comming into cab creating health hazardand oil leaking onto engine and transmission housing then onto the ground also creatingan enviromental hazard plus waste of precious oil supplies.

While driving on the highway, crossing an intersection, or idle in traffic, the diesel engine in my1999 ford f250 dies, leaving me stranded in dangerous situations. I have replaced 2 in the last 6 mos. At my cost.

5.4l ford triton engine spark plugs were changed at 84,000, at 110,128 spark plug on #7 cylinder came loose and blew out.fuel air mixture comes out the spark plug hole which is dangerous(has been known to start engine fires).there is a design defect in the aluminum heads not having enough threads to keep the spark plug tight.this is an expensive repair that ford is not paying for when it is a poor design with the potential of it continuing to happen again on another cylinder.

Spark plug blew out of engine, causing$3000.00 damage to engine.

At about 55,000 mile the engine began to randomly stop.it would start right back up.this usually happened when accelerating from a stop.after a while it began to happen more often and not restart right away.after having the truck looked at, i replaced the camshaft position sensor (cps).i am unsure if the old part is still available.

Engine completely lost power, due to rain water ingested into air breather.

Ongoing problem with the vehicle hesitating during acceleration and intermittently stalling.vehicle beentodealer shop on several occasions, andproblem still reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.

At low speed, spark plug blew out of engine, causing loud exhaust noise and gasoline fumes were immediately smelled inside passenger compartment. If this were to happen at high speed with engine under load when immediate engine shutdown was not safe or possible, this condition would cause large amounts gasoline/air mixture to be exposed to hot exhaust components, causing fire hazard. If this occurred when power was critical (passing or turning in front of traffic), the loss of power could also cause an accident. If this occurred when driving on slick road conditions, it could contribute to loss of control of vehicle. This is considered a "heavy duty" engine, but does not use a hardened threaded insert in the cylinder headsto strengthen the threads that the spark plugs screw into. Searching on the internet for (triton blew sparkplug) reveals that this is not an isolated incident. Also, the manufacturers torque specification for the spark plugs is quite low - probably due to the aluminum threads in the head. This could be a cause for the spark plugs loosening.

While driving at 55/60 mphthe engine quit. With total loss of power steering and power brakes.this failure needs to be added to the open action item # ea00017..this failure has only happened once and was almost a fatality.

With the steering wheel turned several degrees off center you cannot activate the turn signal. The lever will not catch and is released, causing the signal not to activate. One remedy is to steer the vehicle in such a way as to keep the steering wheel straight up and down which will allow the signal lever to catch. This is an extremely unsafe condition. The end result in many situations is that you cannot activate the turn signal. The dealer has said that this is a design defect and cannot be corrected.

Fuel tank straps rusting front and rear.....the rear strap broke allowing fuel tank to drop.

Fuel leak on h2o drain valve at fuel filter on 1999 7.3 power stroke ford truck.this is a wide sread problem as the dealership is selling 3 to 4 of these valves per week.

After filling up with gas and continuing on the highway, we began to smell gas fumes.upon our arrival at home, we noticed the gas tank was hanging by the fuel line and front strap.the rear strap had broke (from rust) and fuel filler hose was often broken off the vehicle.

Consumer received information however dealer had not yet recieved any information on recall 99v-311 for the fuel tank system thus it was not repaired.

Vehicle had a full fuel tank (approx 38 gallons).vehicle was parked in a shopping plaza.when i returned to the vehicle i found the gas tank had fallen to the ground.the rear support strap had failed from corrosion.the front strap was still intact but severely corroded as well.fuel lines into the top of the tank were severed due to the strap failure.vehicle was purchased new and is lightly used, thus the low mileage for the year of the vehicle.

License plate lamp failure/ shorted out rear running lights,3rd brake light, dash lights, steering column lights.

Parking brake was defective.

With parking brake fully set to the floor, truck rolled down boat launch smashing boat trailer into dock.with parking brake completely set to floor, on level ground, driver accidently left vehicle in drive and exited with motor running.truck rolled forward nearly running over driver.parking brake will not hold vehicle with maximum rated gvwr, will not hold on incline, and will not hold when truck is left in gear.excessive pedal effort is required to get brake to work at all.several other owners have had similar problems.ford says "characteristic of vehicle".

The parking brake cable end came off of the cable from where it attaches to the parking brake pedal.

Ford motor company refuses to acknowledge a recall of my truck (1999 ford f-250) that is listed on your website.the recall is for a faulty parking brake, and mine has broken as noted in the recall.what if any recorurse do i have through your agency to force ford to repair this vehicle?the information i have been able to get indicates that the recall numbers are as follows: nhtsa02v068ford recall number02s34 *la

At 323 miles engine would not shift into higher gears, at 14,182 dealership replaced transmission controller, main control valve body and sylinoid assembly due to engine not shift thru gears, at 34,800 dealership replaced entire transmission because when shifting from park to a gear(drive or reverse) truck would act like it was in neutral when you pressed accelerator.

On accleration from a complete stop, since purchase.i get a clunk or a jolt.not always but often.

Torque converter went out at 130,000 miles. It is a 1999 f-250 super duty xlt. Truck is louder with a rattle to it now. I took it to a mechanic and he confirmed it is the torque converter. I am currently waiting to get it repaired.

I have the triton 5.4 v8 this motor has a internal knock which happen during cold start up, as well as rpm's at the transmission shift. Ford has replaced with a reman, and this motor has same problems. I have been told that this is piston slap against cylinder walls. This concerns me.

Automatic transmission failure at 52,000 miles, problem occurrred every 13,000 miles, all repairs were made atdealer.consumer states the first incident was a loose reverse gear on an incline down to a stream, the transmission was modified four times.

The problem is a potentially catastrophic one as a single failure of any component from the rear of the transmission to the rear wheels will, when parked, will allow the vehicle to move.the only parking brake provided is a drum brake at the transmission output shaft.when parked beside the road in steep terrain like rocky mtn nat'l park with no guard rail a single failure will likely result in loss of life as well as vehicle.the bolts on my front u-joint have already been found loose.this is unacceptable.all auromobiles and older motorhomes have both cable operated rear parking brakes as well as a transmission lock.any single failure in either system will still leave the vehicle securely parked.i am not willing to bet my life or my wife's life on not having a single failure.i am seeking modification/replacement of rear calipers to provide redundant parking brake, like most other vehicles.

The right rear axle seal failed under warranty at 34427 miles and was replaced by park ford.the right rear axle seal failed again at 70400 miles.the failure causes axle oil to leak out onto the brake pads.the truck is difficult to control during hard braking.i called ford customer service and talked to park ford multiple times requesting them to fix the problem.theysaid the truck was out of warranty and they would not help.i took the truck to another mechanic who found that the plastic fitting (breather element) at the top of the rear axle vent line was plugged.it was molded shut from the factory.this caused the axle seal to fail twice and causes a safety problem when oil leaks onto the brake pads.

While driving 35 mph, the consumer depressed the clutch and the pedal stayed on the floor of the vehicle. The pedal eventually came back up, but upon depressing it again the pedal stayed down on the floor of the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to dealer and it was found that the clutch fork was defective.the dealer repaired the problem with a clutch fork of a different configuration.

Manual transmission is difficult to get into low gears and grinds going into high gears due to the original clutch assembly defect.under normal and above operating temps, when clutch is pushed in, the hydraulic line in the clutch assembly expands using more hydraulic oil than the system can hold.this causes the clutch discs to not get propeer seperation disengaging power to the transmission causing difficulty in shifting.ford told me i needed an updated clutch assembly at my cost of $465.00 plus tax.ford must have known of this problem or why would they already have an updated clutch assembly to offer?by not being able to shift properly, it is extremely unsafe and is causing transmission damage.i feel that this is a factory defect and it should be recalled immediately and anyone having to pay should be refunded.i work with a man who has an f350 who has to shut his engine off in order to get it into 1st gear.i failed to list that this truck does have fuel injection.

Luckily no damage or injury, however there is the potential for a serious accident if this continues to occur.no safety defect mentioned.

Clutch/clutch hydraulic intermittent failure.excessive free travel in clutch pedal and insufficient clutch pedal reserve(clutch begins to engage with pedal nearly bottomed and clutch does not begin to disengage until pedal halfway through full length of travel.)was previously repaired by winter haven ford winter haven, fl.problem has since reoccured.

This vehicle exhibits a problem with the drivetrain.upon decelerating rapidly in first or second gear something in the drivetrain begins to bang back and forth.sometimes it is so violent that the vehical is difficult to control.this is especially noticable on rough roads.i think that in certain situations it could result in a crash.i have tried to address this problem with ford. They claim it is an inherent condition with this model of vehical and have chosen to do nothing.if this is an inherent condition with this vehical, i feel a recall may be in order as i feel this to be a valid mechanical and safety concern.

1 of the 4 bolts holding the driveshaft together near the transfer case is missing. Another bolt is half way out. Rear driveshaft did not come off completely, but vehicle was undrivable. Had vehicle towed to chesapeake ford truck sales, inc.

The clutch throwout bearing was made in plastic which cause the clutch to go out fast and damage the clutch finger,it may cause a fatal if it happen in traffic, more ever it getsexpensive esp. When you have to do it twice in a year but the most important is life.

Concern that if seat belt is squeaking there is friction causing this and a failure in this safety system will result. Squeeking in the suspension could also be a sign of friction/movement, concern with failure or unsafe condition. When you pay $30,000 for a new vehicle it shouldn't squeak!

Truck pulls hard to the left when brakes are applied in a panic stop. Truck also is hard to turn when brakes are applied hard.

When depressing the brakes and encountering rough road surfacesanti-lock braking system releases the brake and allows vehicle to continue forward at a rate of speed that is faster than desired.end result is that the vele could hit an object it would not ordinarily encounter if the antilock braking system did not release the brake. If the brake is applied with a firm amount of pressure, and a tire encounters bumps or depressions in the roadway brake is effectibely released for the duration of the encounter. The rougher the surface the more the effect is amplified. It does not tend to happen on smooth road surfaces.

I have had a recuring problem with brake pulsation, that seems to result in the failure of the antilock brake system on this vehicle.i have notified the dealer and made a complaint to ford's customer service department.the last time the brakes started pulsating on this truck i had to make an emergency stop.when i engaged and held the brake pedal my truck slid side ways on the expressway into the median.i thought antilock brakes were supposed to allow the driver to maintain control in these types of situations.i can only conclude that the brake problems i have encountered with this vehicle is responsible for this situation.i know of others who are having the same problem with their vehicles and i think that ford should correct this defect before it gets someone killed.

The brakes have not yet failed to stop the truck.the rotors warp and cause the vehicle to vibrate and the rakes to fade.this has been a known problem on the early model superduty.ford has not done a recall but they have published a technical service bulletin on the brakes.i have talked to forby ford (i did not purchase the truck from them) and the admit there is a problem.i also contacted ford customer service with no results.i have been informed by a specialist that the problem is the rotors are undersized and this causes the rotors to warp.in addition, i have several friends with the same type of truck and they have the same problems.

The abs in this vehicle has been activating during normal braking at stop sighns when there is a bump or slippery surface and takes to long to re-engage the brakes once they have been released, resulting in not stoping until you have passed through the sign.

1) cannot steer and brake at same time.i cannot control truck if i have to apply brakes hard.winter driving is very difficult.2) the anti-lock brake system malfunctions when going over bumps and applying brakes.it feels like truck is sliding on ice even when there is no ice on road.

Unable to steer vehicle with brakes applied.steering wheel will not move with brakes applied.can not turn wheels with brake applied when vehicle is stationary.unable to parallel park.

Front rotors get out of round after about 12,000 miles and must be turned.this is too often and suggests they are undersized for the vehicle.they need to be turned again and i believe that the rotors do not have sufficient facing to permit this.

At very slow speeds, particularly in heavy city traffic, when braking, the brake pedal chatters and kicks back as would be expected when the anti skid system engages.the brakes release and the vehicle continues to move forward. I nhave narrowly missed hitting the vehicle in front of me at stop signs and lights.as a test, i temporarily removed the fuse on the abs system.at that time the brakes felt normal.i have not been able to have a qualified technician at a ford dealer to experience the same thing.it is an intermittant failure.i have had a motorhome dealer supervisor experience the failure and he suggested it should be corrected immediately.the intermittant mode makes it difficult to convince anyone that there is a problem.i am unaware of any computer failure code that might be stored that would record the event.

I bought this truck for hauling and the dealers response was that i was towing too heavy loads.. The first time this happened i had taken a trip with a trailer that had trailer brakes and thank god i made it home..my son took it to the store and with out warning had no brakes coming home the lines completely severed when the rotors broke off the in the back off the truck....now i am having trouble with the front brakes ...the shoes have been changed but in a short time in the front now i had to replace the rotor.

Used as a personal vehicle mainly in highway trips of at least an hour.severe vibration upon braking.

Under normal braking, truck suddenly and sharply pulls left into oncoming traffic.

Right rear calipers caused excessive wear on inside of rotor and wore down to caliper pistons,in the first incident. Two subsequent occurrences, the caliper rebuild kits have leaked. The ford dealer says calipers have to be totally replaced. In discussions w/ parts houses, it was determined that a lot of these same repair items are being required.it would appear that if such large quantities of these items are being sold, a "faulty" design exists with the braking system..

Excessive wear of all four brake rotors under 25,000 miles.dealer was contacted, and informed consumer that it was not covered under a recall. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

Have had brought back truck for brake rotor warpage twice.severe vibration upon braking.rotors were cut/turned but problem reoccurs.will be going back for third time shortly.

Brake rotors have been replaced five times due to warping, and they are due again now.

This truck is used for light hauling (personal) of my lawn mower and snow plowing my residence. Continuous/excessive braking was not applied, therefore no reason for brake rotors to be warped at 26k miles (except a design deficiency). The dealer is saying this is the only time they will be able to help me. With this kind of attitude i am concerned about a repeat of the same deficiency in another 26k miles (out of warranty). This sounds like the dealer is wanting to pass the buck and blame the customer.

The brake rotors warp about every 8,000 miles.dealerships claim no mechanical problem.have had brake rotor work 6 times in 44,000 miles.

Driving 1999 f250 superduty sudden and complete loss of brake function. Later found ruptured corroded rear brake line responsible for sudden loss of brake pressure, dual circuit master cylinder was not effective in allowing alternate brake circuit to slow truck creating a dangerous situation.

Design of brake pedal being too close to the accelerator causes the drivers foot to get stuck under the pedal while attempting to brake.

My name is [xxx] and my wife and i were injured in a rollover accident in my 1999 ford f-350 super duty powerstroke. The accident occurred april 20th,on my driveway due to a failure with the power steering / brakeassist pump.the truck was totaled and my wife sustained a severe neck strain and missed five weeks of work. We reported the accident to ford the week of april 22. Our insurance company has retained the services of a traffic accident engineer, and we are working to negotiate a settlement with ford.since i have begun to research the problem with the power assist, i have learned of another accident caused by the same design flaws in the ps/pb pump.in my case the pump failed completely leaving me without any assist in brakes or steering, and due to the fact that i was approaching a switchback that drops at an 18% grade i selected an embankment to stop the vehicle, causing the rollover.i called the nhtsa today, 8/17, after finding out about your website. I read the comments from nhtsa action #ea00017 that showed the investigation closed 7/29 (two weeks ago) with no recall # it seems there is no more information readily forthcoming from the nhtsa. 1999.5 ford-f350 diesel steering sector shaft snapped.driving down highway, steering wheel was off 1/4 turn.in parking lot, shaft snapped and steering wheel spun freely without any wheel movement. Looks like there was an investigation, action # ea01009 (sector shaft fractures) but no recall.chat boards have this happening way too often.the only things on a car that should not break are the breaks and the steering!

Steering wheel will lock up under hard braking at low speeds when you need to steer around something.

Water leaked at the front slide out. The floor sheared off thesidewall in the right front corner.. A broken weld was discovered between the chassis and extended over hang, also the dash had to be replaced because the brackets were broke.

Have had my ford f250 for a few years. It has only 43,000 miles on it. The frame is rotting and is in need of a replacement. This is not the first time i have seen this issue. This seems to be a common problem wit many ford frames from 1997 to 2004.

While driving down the highway, the right rear tire had a blowout.it was not an ordinary tread blowout.3/4ths of the sidewall blew apart and the tire was not reparable..fortunately, it was a right rear tire and i was able to maintain control of the vehicle. (dot number: da217ptiresize: lt265/75r1)

Tire has a 2 inch diameter, 1 inch high bulge protruding from the sidewall.all four tires show sidewall irregularities.this major bulge defect was noted during routine tire pressure check.no blowouts, crashes, injuries, or deaths to report yet. (dot number: vnw81xm178tiresize: lt265/75r1)

I have had two basically identical vehicles in 18 months. I was involved in a wreck and did not want the wrecked $40,000 vehicle after the damage done due to the blow out a firestoned tire created. I now have a 2000 model with the same tires and they too are showing odd wear patterns and signs. (tiresize: (ltp265r16)( dot number: tire size: (ltp265r16 )

On april 17 i was driving north on i 75 in michigan when the right front exploded . I had been on the road for 8 hours and it was about 35 degrees . The next day i went to the dealer ship and they sent me to the firestone dealer . I was told the firestone did not make bad tires and told me it was ford problem. Called ford back told service manger what i was told . He said he would check in to it . Several day later ford called back and said all they would cover was one tire . I do not feel safe with these tires and would like ford replace these tires witth a diferent brand . I pull a 8000 lbs boat and am glad i was not towing it at the time the tire blew out . I have pictures of the tire on the truck as well as off the tk. This tk was assembled in canada. (dot number: vnw8 1xltiresize: lt265/75r1)

I was experiencing a very bad shake to my truck. It was wandering on the road at speeds over 50 mph. I inspected the tires and found a 14 inch crack down the center of the tread of one tire. The other tires tread were worn in an uneven pattern (cupping) . I contacted firestone dealer. Was informed that they were not part of the recall and their was nothing they could do for me. Due to saftey reasons i purchased new goodyear tires the same day. I have retained the old tires. Please advies if these tires have been included in the recall and what option are available. Thanks, jeff.(dot number: f07d-g061tiresize: lt265/75r1)

The tire separated and completly came apart while driving on the interstate.luckily, our experienced driver was able to pull it off the road without causing a accident.fortunately no one was injured.it caused damage to the fender, side of truck and even topper of the vehicle. However, our employeesfelt the vehicleswere unsafe to drive with these tires on them. As a result we have replaced the existing firestone steeltex tires on our work vehicles, 20 tires.we did notify matthews currie ford(our dealer) regarding the problem immedialty.they did not replace the tires at no cost to us, we paid for all of them.we also have records of the repair and have what is left of the damaged tire if you would like to see it.we can email pictures of the damaged truck and tire to you. Chuncks falling off sidewall and cracking where tread meets sidewall.(tiresize: lt26575r16)

I was driving, the tread separated and the tire then blew.very scary.i contacted firestone.they advised that it was an impact break sometime in the life of the tire.very rude.after $1000 damage to my vehicle, i could not in good faith trust the tires on the vehicle.i replaced them with michelan's.i never in over 35 years of driving ever had a tire tread separate and then blow out.this is a defect that firestone will not admit.the cost and damages to my vehicle to replace and repair is over $2000.firestone could care less. Tread separated from tire when leaving highway. Having slowed down kept tire from coming completly apart. Tires are 1 year and 8 months old. Had 41320 miles on them. Only tire i have had to separate, even when i've ran them bald before. Local tire shop employee said he had two other f250's come in with the same type problem. Not sure if it was the exact same model tire or not. Worried about other 3 tires now. (dot number: vnw81xl508tiresize: 265 75 r16)

Both times it was a tread separation.one completely blew, the other just lost the tread.we were traveling, and checked with the dealer there for any recalls, which there were none.we did not bring the 2 tires home with us, but left them at the dealer.we have receipts for these two replacement tires.this will show the actual dates of incident.we also have a picture of the tire and damage done from the last one.the emergency repair service who replaced our tire will remember the incident.if needed, i can contact them for verification.

I was driving east bound on riverside drivefelt a little shakeand it went away with in a few seconds the tire tread came off and was beating the wheel well of my truck and then it blewafter the tread separation and locked the front tire up and pulled me into oncoming traffic where i side swiped a van coming at me head on causing the van to roll over.i wastraveling at about 55 or 60 mphs when all this occurred.there was one person transported to the hospital and later released. The tire had no reason to separate the way it did .it came apart like a retreaded tire would separate. (tiresize: lt265/75)( dot number:tire size: lt265/75 )

In cold temperatures the windshield wiper arms bind up not allowing the wipers to contact the windshiels.the cold contracts the metal where the wiper arm pivots causing it to bind.the wiper arm return spring can not overcome this bind.driver can not clear windshield to safely drive when cold, even when de-iced and using winter blades.

Improperly designed wheel hole openings and tire valves make it impossible to properly maintain dual rear wheel tire pressure at safe levels. Our vehicles are box type ambulances mounted on ford e-super duty chassis - as are 90+% of box type ambulances, many small school buses, rv's, and box trucks, many of which are on the road with underinflated rear tires, and carrying heavy loads. The problem results from the access holes in the wheels being too small and the wrong tire valves being used. The valves are too short and are the wrong type. Ford uses car type rubber valves instead of rigid metal truck valves. This underinflation/maintenance problem may be related to reported firestone tire failures on ambulances. Ford needs to re-call these vehicles and install metal valve stems of the proper angle and length, or metal stems with valve extenders. This is an extremely dangerous situation.
