The factory installed tow package wiring is defective. The electric brake wiring is defective, ford has failed to fix the poroblem, i can get the wiring repaired from a third party, but my concern is how many trucks have defective wiring and other consumers are being put at risk by ford not admitting there is a problem with there tow package wiring. This is a very dangerous situation in colorado we have a lot of very steep grades and towing a trailer down them without out the trailer brakes operational could result in a serious accident. I have been to two ford dealers and neither addressed the problem. I have digital pictures of the defect, that can be transmitted to you.

I am replacing the fuel tank for the fourth time on my 2000 ford 350 diesel rackbody dumptruck. I have had this truck leave me stalled dead in fast-moving, heavy traffic numerous times. The interior coating of the steel fuel tank is disintegrating and fouling the whole fuel system.

2000 ford f-350 fuel tank liner failures.tank liner coming apart causing the fuel tank needing to be relined, and replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter.

I was inquiring about the delamination of fords fuel tanks on their f-series diesels. I own a 2000 f350 7.3l diesel. Last week it began to run as if it wasn't getting fuel so i stopped into a local ford dealer and their diagnoses was the fuel tank on my f350 started to delaminate and clog the entire fuel system. I have owned this truck since it was new and have done all the maintenance and up-keep as required i haven't had any trouble until after the fuel companies started to change the diesel fuel. I have owned the truck since it was new and never had a problem until just recently. The fuel tank problem was diagnosed last week by a ford dealer in my area and it will cost approximately $3600 to repair. My question is, "is there going to be an investigation on this?" i have found a blog from many other customers that are having the same trouble. Someone else should have to pay for this not the consumer or ford, unless they new this would be a problem and continued to put metal tanks in instead of plastic. I would greatly appreciate a reply.

Unable to access emergency brake pedal from drivers seat, not enough room to access.yh

On 1/28/2000, the operator of this vehicle parked it outside a business and put the truck in low gear, applied the emergency brake, turned the ignition off and exited and locked the vehicle.it was parked on a small downward slope and the vehicle began to roll and crossed 2 lanes of traffic, made a sharp left hand turned, looped around and ran through a wall of a business.the owner of this business was present and witnessed the incident and when our driver came out of the building he was in, the property owner and our driver and another witness walked to the truck and watched while our driver unlocked the vehicle at which time it began to roll backwards.four people witnessed that the truck was turned off and also witnessed the truck being unlocked by our operator and verified the truck was in low gear and that the emergency brake was applied.we would like to know if other similar problems have been reported as we have 2 additional f350's (a 1999 and another 2000) in which case the operators have reported similar braking problems although accidents haven't occured in the other two.i will also report those separately as complaints.could you estimate a time frame for investigating this complaint?thank you, tammy giles/office manager.

When making a slow turn ineither direction power steering locks up. This also affectsbrakes.

Although i have only listed this as 1 instance of failure simply because this poorly designed (dangerous) solution finally cost me getting into an accident. This abs problem has caused me to loose sleep at night since owning this vehicle because of the various times it has failed me!it shouldn't take an einstein to figure out there's something wrong with a brake system that fails when you really need it to work!not only does it fail the brakes, but since the power steering is used to (hydroboost) power the brake system, when the abs unit dumps the fluid to release the brake pressure, you also loose steering ability!i don't know how many people have been killed by this inadequate design. I guess i should count myself lucky that i'm even able to write this, but this system is plainly inadequate and flawed at the design layer.either someone requires this to be corrected or everyone that drives a vehicle with this type of solution better triple their life insurance and quadruple their liability insurance and attend church services daily in hopes that they survive the experience!!!!!!!!!! oh, maybe i've touched on something there. Do you think the insurance companies mind the prospect of having everyone having to increase their insurance to prepare for the results?dt

Truck pulls uncontrollably to left , worse under heavy braking, ford is aware of the problem but has no answers yet to solve this problem, brakes stop working if you hit a large bump in the road while braking.

Consumer applied brake at 50 mph , brakes failed, and vehicle hit a guardrail at about 35-40 mph.damage to vehicle was $ 7000.

When traveling onhighway went to applybrakes and brakes didn't hold. There were no injuries.

Vehicle was traveling about 30 mph when all of a sudden the brakes did not work. There was brake fluid spilling, and the emergency brake was applied, but it was still difficult for the vehicle to come to a complete stop.

Intermittently when the brakes are appliedthe pedal is normal, butvehicle experiences extended stopping distance. Dealer has not been able to duplicate the problem.

While applying the brakespedal went all the way to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.problem was intermittent. Felt like coaster brakes. Have taken vehicle to dealership, and wasinformed by mechanic after test driving vehicle, thatno problem with brakes found after 25 miles.

During brake applicationwhile driving at any speed vehicle will pull intermittently toright and / or left, more severe at higher speeds. Dealership has examinedvehicle ninetimes, and replaced brake calipers/pads/ lines/ rear spring shackle adjustments, andpositive caster. Dealership has been unable to effectively remedyproblem ,and informed consumer no more service would be performed on this vehicle.please provide any additional information / documentation.

While driving 5-70 mph consumer lost power steering/braking.consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed. Deaalership repaired the power steering and brake components, but the consumer was still having the same problems.

When pulling a fifth wheel trailer, unlessbrakes on the trailer are real aggressive, abs brakes on the truck are activated. This causes a very hazardous condition when trying to stop. Truck was taken to the dealership. Dealership was not able to correct the problem.

Brakes failed at 50 mph, consumer then lost all steering and hit a guardrail at 35-40 mph. Damage to vehicle was $ 7000.

During breaking, abs activated and i was completely unable to steer the vehicle..

Vehicle was sitting in traffic and another vehicle was in front, andconsumer pulled off on the right shoulder of the road, and the other vehicle tried to make a u-turn, andhit consumer's vehicle broadside.front end was smashed, anddriver side airbag didn't go off .also, abs brakes didn'tkick in at all.

While driving 45 mph consumer applied the brake pedal and the brakes failed, causing consumer's vehicleto collide with the vehicle in front.driver sustained minor injuries, and vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

While approaching the highway, brakes were applied, the abs light came on, then brakes locked up and engine failed to slow down causing brakes to go in abs, consumer ran into another vehicle and started to push the other vehicle two lanes length.consumer applied park brake and vehicle stopped. Contacted dealer and the dealer could not find the cause.

Truck is equipped with rear abs. When making a rapid stop and the rear end hits a bump instead of the abs modulating the brakes it releases all of the brakes. This has happened 3-4 times since i have had the truck and this problem is not isolated to just my truck. Checking the forums at ford-diesel.com there are lots of others out there with this same problem. Dealers have told them it is normal. I don't buy it. The only way to regain braking is to let up on the pedal, then quickly reapply. There have been a couple of times when i just barely had time to do that. It is very scary because it is not like most abs where the pedal will pulse. This acts as if the brakes have just totally released, and the pedal drops. I don't understand, nor does anyone else with the problem why the front brakes let go. If it is only rear wheel abs then why do we lose the front brakes also? this is very dangerous because you really can't predict when it will do it. I know that i am very wary of the possibility that a little hop of the rear wheels during hard braking can cause this and drive cautiously. No problem with a load in the back of the truck, but with a light rear it can happen anytime. I am surprised no one has been hurt.

Dates are not correct as i do not have information in front. Major brake issues, transmission shifting issues and turbo is now leaking oil again. Lots of intermittent issues that no one can duplicate. Unsure what to do.

My first serious situation occurred when i was pulling a 6000lb tractor. Conditions where good weather clear and outside temp 98. When approaching an area of hwy four lane divided hwy( 2 north 2 south). This area of hwy has several traffic lights spaced about two miles apart from one another. The truck operated as expected on the first three of lights. When i applied the brakes for the fourth time my truck pulled left so hard the cross bar on the steering wheel was straight up and down and i was still headed into the median toward north bound traffic, i released the brake pedal as soon as i went into the grass to regain control, once stopped i checked under my truck for a possible broken brake line, but i seen nothing wrong. I proceeded to the office after checking everything and things seemed ok after the brakes cooled down. During checking the brakes and lines the left front rotor seemed very much hotter than the right front! the truck has been doing this and continues to do this. Southwest ford in weatherford is the only dealer that has worked on it for this problem. They keep changing the pads and rotors and giving it back. I told them the conditions in witch the truck pulls but they will not load it. They want me to load it and bring it to them!!! i am very frustrated and worried to load it, and drive it. I have done everything they have asked and i guess i will load it too. But this will be the last straw! i had found an old message on the internet from "the carringtons" that had the similar problem with their 99 model and got a 2000 to replace it. They said they had the same problem but not as bad as the 99.if you could help me and possible others, i really think it will save lives!

Brake surges uncontrolabl, also replaced hitch but new hitch did not correct the problem.

When applying brakes hard, the power steering goes out.took vehicle to dealer twice, dealer said it met specifications. Consumer states steering is getting harder to steer.

I experienced a brake pedal kickback during emergency braking that very nearly caused an accident . My foot was very nearly knocked off the pedal. I don't know whether the braking action was interrupted. The hydroboost action of the braking/steering has been inadequate since day one. There is barely enough power to turn the steering wheel at slow speed and if the brakes are applied while steering at low speed or low rpm the system bogs down and is very sluggish. Please note there is a real design problem here. You are not supposed to lose your steering ability because you apply your brakes! the pedal kickback is another symptom of the hydroboost problem.

There is a serious issue with the steering that my mechanic says is called the death wobble'. I was driving down the road and the steering began to wobble uncontrollably. My front tires are new, steering component all tight and inflation is accurate. I pulled to the aide of the road and almost crashed. The 'wobble' occurs sporadically and is not predicable. It has occurred 6-7 times in the two years i have owned the truck. I am extremely concered as it is my only transportation. My mechanic is saying it is a manufacturer defect and ford needs to address.

When the truck is placed under hard braking conditions, it loses power steering and becomes very hard to steer and control.this is very evident when hauling cargo or pulling a trailer.the problem has been confirmed by two ford dealers, but ford will not authorize any repairs because they say this is a normal condition.i don't know if my truck is bad or if all f-350 have this problem.the loss of steering will cause an accident very soon.the only reason a person would by a truck of this size is to haul cargo or pull trailers.like i said, ford has been notified by two dealers about this problem, but they will not do anything to fix it.thanks.

Power steering cuts out when vehicle is moving slowly and brakes are applied.ford dealed service manager said that ford is aware of this condition and there is nothing that they can do about it.this defect possibly affects 1999 model year.service manager encouraged me to complain to nhtsa.he said that if enough people complained, then ford would have to do something about this defect.

Loss of power steering at low speed when applying the brakes. This makes it impossible to steer the truck when trying to brake and steer at the same time. My wife is not strong enough to steer the truck and i am just able to move the steering wheel slightly.

Power steering assist goes away when applying brakes. Very annoying, and if i ever had to stomp the brake pedal at speed and need to swerve, turn, etc. I believe it could potentially be fatal to someone. From the information i have read this is a pretty widespread problem with these trucks and needs to be corrected. They are much too big and heavy to not be able to steer correctly.

On dec 20th, 2005 i was driving on i-35 at highway speed when i started hearing multiple popping sounds on the front of the roof of my ford f-350 xlt lariat le.a friend was with me at the time and he figured out what the sound was we pulled off at the next exit and he was right. Thewindshield visor mount which was factory installed and spot welded to the vehicle at the kentucky ford factory, had came loose from the vehicle.after this incident i took it to a body shop to have them look at it and they stated that the spot welds the factory did at the time of the building of the truck did not have ahigh enough heat setting to make a good fusion of the metal for a proper weld. I've taken the truck to 2 ford dealers and was told by both that this was not covered due to the trucks factory warranty of 3 year 36,000 miles being over. There are 4 factory holes in the roof of the truck that are uncovered due to the factory visor not being in place which allows rain and weather to enter the truck.

After taking vehicle to dealer for popin noise in front end while turning found out that the trailing arm bracket was broken in half. I was told by the dealership it was not covered by warsnty because i have a leveling kit on my truck. They refered me to a place to weld it together when i contacted them i was told that they have fixed many ford trucks with the same problem some of the trucks had leveling kits some without. Then i contacted a different dealership and was told that they also were fixing numerous truck with the same problem and that ford had made a new part that was stronger and that's how they were fixing the problem. I think ford obviuosly has had a problem otherwise they would not have made a stronger part but they are using the leveling kit on my truck as an excuse not to fix the problem. I would like to know why so many trucks are having this problems but there isn't as recall to make ford fix it.

Documentation on record to show tires rotated & checked every 3,000 miles by ford.tire checked for proper inflation 20 minutes prior to 2nd blow out on straight highway, not overloaded, moderate temperature.two remaining (not blown) tiresremoved and also show impending signs of failure.firestone sent tire and "rubber stamped" results as due to underinflation for unknown period of time.unknown period of time is when tread seperated, revealing belts and subsequently deflating tire.the now underinflated tire caused rim to damage tire wall which allowed firestone's inept conclusion.discount tire, gcr (bridgestone/fire stone), and ted wein's (firestone), agree independently on tire failure.apathy seems to sweep thru nhtsa and firestone setting in motion civil litigation/congressional investigation if nothing is done.add this to the over 162 other complaints on the steel tex, along with arizona's dps problems. This is third submittal to nhtsa with no response on first two!!! sen. Reid, nv, also being advised.

Tire went flat, found side wall failure, put spare on, it also had side wall failure, after having all tire inspected by firestone, 4000 miles later a third tire failed in rear left inside dually with no apparent holes all tires were original equipment with truck, spare had never been used when it failed, all other tires had less then 1/16th inch evenwear when inspected (tiresize: lt215/85r1)

Tire had catastophic failure, possible fatal accident narrowly avoided. Tire inflated to correct safe pressure. Tire info. Sticker on vehicle is disputed by firestone, however tires were inflated correclty. 2 independent firestone stores said tire was defective. Both stores checked and verified pressures as being safe and adequate. Clearly, it is a defective tire. Tire sent to firestone for evaluation, returned with excuses letter attached. Firestone refuses to make good on defective product. I have destroyed tire/rim in my possesion, i would be glad to have it evaluated again. I hereby request payment for replacement tuires and subsequent damages from firestone. (dot number: vnw81xl010tiresize: 265-75r16e)

The tire began to vibrate and in about 20 seconds (about the time it took me to realize that the vibration was not caused by the road) the tread came completely off the tire, which did not immediately lose air. The truck swerved wildly to the right and thanks to a wide shoulder, front & rear way bars, andan experienced driver it did not roll over.the tire load was apx. 200 lbs under it's max. Load rating, inflated to max. Pressure of 80 lbs, and was not over heated.the air temp was about 95 degrees.i have the tire and tread in my posession.the ford dealer claimed that ford had no responsibility and told me to contact a firestone dealer.i did contact a dealer, they gave me an 800 number which i called, that person told me he would file a claim and that the firestone legal department would contact me.the firestone 800 number on the nhtsa website refered me to a dealer or their website.please do not hesitate to contact me if i can be of any asssistance in this matter, thank you,jim wells.

I was driving on a major interstate freeway and the right rear tire exploded and quickly disinegrated.i somehow managed to get the truck to the side of the road and get the spare on.after getting to the nearest firestone dealer in springfield mo, they said the failure was due to the rubber valve stem breaking loose.they said ford should have equiped the truck with steel valve stems.ford and firestone have declined responsibility for the failure.luckily i was able to keep from crashing and being killed. The sidewalls have dime size chunks of rubber that have fallen off the tire.this seems to be from physical damage (rubbing curbs), but this has never happened before on any vehicle i've owned and i have never seen this before.rubbing a curb should only damage the white lettering, not pull out chunks of rubber. The inside right rear tire on my new 2000 - f-350 dual wheel truck peeled on the face and sides while traveling on interstate highway i-10 at approximately 65 miles an hour. This truck has not been used to transport any heavy weight, just to travel between my home in scottsdale, az and quartzsite. Az (a distance of about 142 miles). The other tires on the truck (all the same original tires that came with the truck) show signs that they also may peel and/or separate. In october 2000 the state of arizona replaced all of their general tires because of peeling (i came across an article in the paper while researching if there was a recall on these general tires). These tires, with only about 6600 miles on them and plenty of tread left are a hazard to any driver having them on his/her car. Luckily the defective tire on my truck was on one of the dual inside back wheels. I have contacted the dealer, bell ford and will take the vehicle to the dealership in the next few days. On the phone, they said once they saw the tires they would see what they could do. (dot number: ador1jc230tiresize: t235/85r16)

Failure on this vehicle has not yet occured. A local county ambulance service has had failure of this same tire on one of their ambulances resulting in delay of emergency patient transport and stranding of ambulance crew and patient along side a rural road for over an hour before assistance could arrive. Must we wait untilan ambulance accident occurs before consideration for recall of these tireswill be considered. Ford has installed these tires on a great number of their 2000 model f-350 chassis that are then delivered for ambulance manufacture. I know this to be a fact. I own three 2000 model f350 ambulances and all of them have these tires. My crews and i are afraid to rely on these tires. My company routinely transports patients from our rural area to higher level medical facilities, most times over one hundred miles , and at speeds of 70 to 90 miles an hour under emergency conditions. Please give us help with this problem. I am asking you to convince ford and firestone to recall these tires where applied to emergency vehicles. The use of these tires in a low speed application transporting freight may be relatively safe, but that is questionable. I have written numerous congressmen and senators as well as my state governor with limited reaction. Please make this a priority. Does any government agency regulate in any form and are their specific requirements for the type, size, tread , load range for tires used on ambulances? are tires of various manufacture and tread design allowed on the same emergency vehicle if of the size ? please advise me of any regulations reguarding ambulances that you have. I have noticed over the last three weeks what i believe was tire seperation on my tires so i called to ask if they were having problems with my make and model and was told no. I then drove my truck to the dealership and was informed that my tiers were infact seperating and that i should take them to a general tire store so i did that and it was confirmed by them that my tires are in the proccess of seperation but was told that it is not there problem that it is the dealerships responsibility. The tires are so bad that you can stick your fingernail under the rubber that is starting to come apart. I then drove to yet another dealership and got the same confermation but still no results. I was then left with no choice and had to replace the tires. They told me to hold onto the tires for a possible recall or for your viewing. I have also contacted the sc attorney generals office and they are the folks that told me to contact you. I have had ongoing tire problems since this truck was new. I have had casing separations in four of the six tires installed on the dual wheel truck, both front and rear. I have contacted ford customer service numerous times. I have been to two local dealerships. I have also made numerous calls to general tire customer service and i talked to five separate representatives. All to no avail. One ford dealership told me they were "not in the tire business" -- "have a nice day" -- "good bye". Another ford dealership has been waiting for three weeks for an eamil from "corporate headquarters". I believe that they are hoping i will just give up or crash and burn -- whichever come first. General tire has agreed to give me a small credit toward the purchase of replacement tires or replace them with the same general tire junk that i have now. Neigher of which is satisfactory or fair. Someone is going to be hurt by their failure to respond to this problem or even take the time to question me as to when, where, or how my tire failures have occurred. Your timely response would be greatly appreciated as this is a very widely used tire and i believe is a very dangerous problem to the public. Thank your for your time and consideration. Purchased vehicle with factory installed class iv trailer hitch receiver. Found that standard trailer safety chains will not fit into slots provided on the hitch assembly. Learned that many other f350 owners (may also include ford f250 super duty owners) have the same problem which they have solved themselves buy either modifying the hitch (hitch is not to be cut, welded or modified per manufactures instructions) or jury rigged the hitch in some fashion in order to attach the trailers safety chains to the trucks. I have even observed one f350 towing without the safety chains attached. I believe this is a serious safety issue since many purchase these vehicles to tow heavy (up to 10,000 lbs) trailers and recreation vehicles. It is also unlawful in most (if not all) states to improperly or not attach these safety chains when towing a trailer. I also feel that it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs as a result of this defect.
