Was traveling 35mph and started to slow down to make a turn appliedbrakes and pedal went to the floor, vehicle did not stop.vehicle rear ended another vehicle. Neither driver's nor passenger's airbag deployed. No injuries.

(1) vehicle randomly dying while driving in traffic(2) cam postion sensor, engine dies , loss of power steering, loss of power brakes (both a nessesity with a diesel pick up to be able to maintain control due to thier weight)(3) replace the cam position sensor at appoximately $140.00.

While driving my 1997 ford f350 diesel pickup, pulling a 36ft gooseneck horse trailer with my two teenage daughters and their four horses, the engine in my pickup spontaneously ignited.there was no "check engine" warning light, and the engine temperature gauge showed normal.the only warning i had was smoke coming up from the left wheel well upon speed decrease to turn a corner.i was traveling a short distance from home and at a low rate of speed (less than 40mph) during the travel from my home to the local fairgrounds for rodeo practice.as i turned the corner, the smoke billowed.i immediately pulled over and smoke filled the cab of the pickup.my two daughters and i quickly evacuated the vehicle and called 911.we quickly unloaded the livestock from the trailer and got far away from the scene.my fiance, who was traveling behind us in another vehicle, tried putting the fire out with the fire extinguisher i carried in my pickup, but to no avail.as an emergency responder himself, he had the presence of mind to unhook the pickup from the horse trailer and push it away as it became engulfed in flames.by the time the fire department arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames and a total loss.from the time i noticed the smoke until the fire consumed the vehicle was less than 15 minutes.my daughters have been traumatized by this incident.we have suffered significant financial and economic loss as a result of this spontaneous fire.i need to make people aware of this to prevent others from suffering similar loss, injury or even death.i am aware that there are multiple electrical issues with this make/model vehicle.i received no recall notices from ford, or warning of any kind that something like this could happen to my vehicle as a result of a faulty part (which is what we believed to be the cause of this fire).

On the passenger side of the engine pan the dipstick adapter was manufactured poorly. The oil from the crankcase has caused the oring to swell and leak oil. The oil leak is getting on the starter and clutch. The oil can cause a short in the electrical system. This can cause an accident or death while driving. The oil on the clutch can cause loss of control and cause an accident or death. The oring can swell and fall off the adaptor and become lodged in the oil pickup. This will starve the motor of oil and cause a catastrophic failure of the motor while driving. This can cause an accident or death. Due to the inherent poor design the oring that is submerged in oil should be compatible with oil or be able to be replaced. It is not possible to replace the oring due to due to the terrible design of the dipstick assembly. To replace this oring with a proper oil compatible one requires the disassembly of the motor and the removal of the motor to gain access to the defective part. This is a common problem on all vehicles of the same make and model from 1988-2006.

While the vehicle was being driven all electrical power and steeringwas lost without prior warning. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

Vehicle fire 1997 fordf350, caused by fire starting in brake master cylinder.

I have had two camshaft position sensor failures on my 97' f350 7.3l diesel in a matter of one year. This left me stranded on both occasions. I discovered on several ford truck discussion forums that this is one the most common failures on these trucks through a variety of years. I could not find any person who owned a similar year truck and did not have this component fail on them. Please take action on this issue.

Headlights dim and go out on a intermittent basis. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-350. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly stall. After restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. The contact indicated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the cam shaft position sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v553000 (engine). The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 92,000.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-350. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact restarted the vehicle and it stalled a second time. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive home. Gladian repair shop of pittsburg, virginia was made aware of the failure and suggested a list of unknown repairs. Camel brothers repair shop of prince george, virginia replaced the accelerator pedal position switch sensor, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-350 turbo diesel. The contact stated that the oil gallery plugs in the engine block were leaking oil while he was driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the dealer stated that they would repair the vehicle free of charge. However, the dealer called him and explained that his vehicle was outside the warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired but the contact stopped driving it on the street. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they used a new material when producing those models and the plugs would leak, but refused to assist in repair costs. There were photographs available. The current mileage was approximately 66,700. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

While driving between 55-60 mphmotor vibrated, followed by a loud bang. Consumer pulled off the road, and had vehicle towed to the dealership. The two piece flywheel came apart, which caused the transmission housing to crack where thetransfer case (4-wheel drivewas located.dealership indicated that this was a common failure with this year trucks, and the two piece fly wheels werenot installed in later model trucks.transmission housing and theflywheel were replaced.

Engine flywheel failed while waiting at a stop sign. Feel free to provide any further infromation.

Bearings came loose inflywheel, causing vehicle to shake as ifengine was loose.dealer has been contacted.

Without prior warning vehiclewas overheating.consumer hadvehicle in dealer shop for repair service seven times, and the dealer can't determine thecause. However , dealer replaced the engine due to a leakage.

Metal filings found in the oil pan on two occasions. Mjs

The water pump bearings failed in my 1997 ford, f-350, 7.3 liter diesel. This vehicle had 90,053 miles and had been serviced regularly. The serpentine belt broke as a result of the above failure, nearly causing loss of control of the vehicle, by approximately 50% reduction of steering and braking capability.

Stopped at a stop signal and engine quit.cranked okay, but would not start.got it towed to my house.after lots of trouble shooting for not starting, noticed that the engine tachometer was not working when trying to start.replaced the cam position sensor, f7tz-12k073-b.the truck started right up.

Cam shaft position sensor in truck has gone out suddenly and could be very dangerouswhenmoving - loss of power steering and brakes. Evidently almost all engines have this part fail at some point and have done nothing to help the consumer.

While driving, #5 piston (or wrist-pin) failed in the engine, consumer is seeking some relief in the matter of replacing the failed engine.

Engine shuts off when going down grades, loosing power to brakes and steering.turn signal will not stay on.

Vehicle will stall intermittently.

Vehicles engine will shut off when coasting down grades loosing steering and brakes.problem was in my 1996 power stroke diesel ford truck that was bought back.consumer was given newer 1997 truck with same problems and now 4 years later, dealer is still working on problem.truck is dangerous and i recently lost control of vehicle 4 times running off road twice.when vehicle shuts off i need to put in neutral shut-off key then restart and put in gear.this is normally when you are going down grade and reaching speeds of 80-90mph.consumer recently broke off end of shift lever in a panic situation down shifting to low along with indenting steering wheel from white knuckles trying to stop vehicle when consumer was unable return to neutral.consumer have found other owners of this vehicle with same problem.consumer notified nhtsa in 96 and 97, but received no response.this is a dangerous situation and must be corrected. *jg

While driving, #5 piston (or wrist-pin) failed in the engine, consumer is seeking some relief in the matter of replacing the failed engine.

Camshaft position sensor has failed once, shutting the truck off while in traffic.numerous others who own vehicles of the same make and year as mine have had the same problem.

Proceeding down steep hill at night approaching a t intersection, engine quit running. Attempts to restart failed, just narrowly avoided a collision, minimal brakes and steering available.contacted personal mechanic, explained situation.checked fuses, 30 amp fuse for powertrain control system relay coil/glow plug controller had failed. Mechanic advised open the fuel filter housing, remove filter, check the heater wire in bottom.if loose, shorted out fuse, thereby shut down engine.found the soldered wire loose.removed same from the assembly per instructions and replaced the fuse.engine started. Mechanic said he has repaired (4) ford diesels within past few months with same failure when the vehicle is being operated.he further said ford will not honor replacement of the failed part. My warranty book states the entire fuel system (less lines and tank) are covered.contacted two dealerships, both indicated they had never heard of the problem.contacted frontier ford where truck was purchased.they stated those parts are not covered by warranty in their books.advised them of the critical nature of engine failure while operating the vehicle and was told they could not assist.contacted ford mtr co.and was essentially told the same thing.the parts were replaced, but i had to wait until a dealer could be located who had them in stock, iwas told they are on a national back order status.the internal assembly made of a thin metal plate with the heater element soldered to the plate which placed under the fuel filter at the bottom of the housing.by design any water particules drawn into the filter system are forced into the bottom of the assembly where a drain valve is located.ford requires draining the assembly every 5k miles or when the water in fuel light comes on.i have had the fuel filter replaced when i first purchased the truck and use the drain valve every time i refuel which is on avg. Every 400-500 miles.

When shifting from second gear to the drive gear, engine will unexpectedly stall.dealership has examined vehicle two times and has failed to remedy the problem.consumer adds engine completely shuts down when upshifting from 1st to 2nd gear generally on incline, when engine dies there are no brakes, no power steering, and the vehicle then becomes uncontrollable, vehicle is put in neutral to restart engine.

Driving at speed, the truck motor dies

Engine stalls whenever vehicle is coasting on a down slope without foot pressing on the accelerator pedal. Dealer/manufacturer notified.

The engine totally cuts off leaving the truck inoperable.at first it would crank back instantly.now, we hope to make it off the road where we have to repeatedly try to get it cranked.numerous mechanics have tried and failed to identify the problem.

Engine quits while driving.

Engine surges continuously causing damage to the transmission.

During normal operation ofvehicleengine will stall unexpectedly while traveling at any speed.dealership has examined vehicle several times, and replaced various sensors in an attempt to correct the problem.please provide any additional information / attachments.

When traveling at 20 to 35 mph and upon depressing thebrake pedal to make a sudden stop, brake pedal traveled to the floorboard, resulting inextended stopping distance. Consumer also has experienced a problem when traveling, fire shot out of the exhaust system, causing objects in the road to catch on fire. Consumer has contacted the dealer.

Air conditioner failed. Mjs

While parked vehicle caught on fire and burned to the ground, cause is unknown. Please provide additional information. Ts

Reflectors on rear tail lamps keep cracking.

Engine shuts off when going down grades, loosing power to brakes and steering.turn signal will not stay on.

When using turn signals, either to make a left or right turn, the directional switch shuts off if the wheel is turned just a little bit in the opposite direction. For example, when i'm turning to the right to go down my street and put the right directional on (ahead of time to let others know i'm turning) they shut off because my street is in a bend in the road. This has happened to me alot since i bought this truck. I was almost rear ended because the blinker shut off and i did not know it and i was just sitting in the middle of the road. I called the ford dealer where i bought it and they told me that this was a "safety feature" and said that all fords were like this. I for one have to disagree on this "safety feature". The steering wheel only needs to be turned not even an inch in the opposite direction.

Replacement part shorter and further away.must remove hands from wheel to use.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-350. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the fuel gauge meter suddenly indicated that the fuel tank was empty. The contact also discovered that the panel for the fuel tank was detached, causing the fuel tank to be separated from the chassis. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 115,000 and the current mileage was 146,823.

We drove the truck and it never got hot or acted up then we parked it and a little bit later it was on fire.

Went to 2 dealers both said that this sensor has a normal problem of leaking fuel over the engine and a high failure rate i have a friend who has the same year make and model had the same sensor fail and leak fuel on the motor as well as leaking a good amount on the ground when the sensor fails from inspecting this sensor it is of poor quality and design for this purpose.

Previous complaint #odi747045.i wanted to send you some more information concerning this problem as i am aware that ford has had this problem with their vehicles since 96 when ford bought back my vehicle and replaced it with another vehicle with the same problem.recently i ran off the road with this vehicle just missing going over a sheer drop off of over 1,000 feet into the ocean.in my panic stop with no power steering and brakes the steering wheel was indented with my hand print and dented front section of wheel along with the shift lever breaking off during this panic stop.the dealer was contacted june 19, 2001 and i was informed they would agin be contacting ford.i have received no further response.

Due todefective electrical fuelline heater which disintegratedand causedvehicle to stall unexpectedly. The part was on national back order.

Fuel sensor switch is leaking fuel onto the manifolds. Dealer has been notified. Manufacturer will be notified.

Fuel tank housinghas a hole on the side. Please provide further details.

While the vehicle was parked on an incline with the parking brake on, the vehicle was on, the parking brakereleasedcausing the vehicle to roll.the manufacturer has been notified.

Vehicle has been at dealer 7 times for brake problems.when applying brakes there was a grinding sound, likemetal to metal.also, extended braking distance. Dealer determined that emergency brakewas not releasing properly, causing damage tobrake drums. Drums have been replaced twicethus far. Dealer cannot remedy problem with emergency brake.

While driving at 55mph and applying brakes, brakes hesitate to stop vehicle. Contacted dealer, dealer replaced parts 2 times. However, problem still occurring. Consumer states brake cables have been replaced on numerous occassions, due to dealer using the wrong cables, the cables are causing the brakes to fail.

Speedometer dropped to zero, then the transmission would not shift from low gear!

While driving at any speedvehicle jumps and shifts hard.when coming to a stop anddownshifting, vehicle lunged forward. Consumer had to keepfeet on the brakes.

I have had three replacement transmissions model: (e-4od).i now have 48,000 on my truck and i need a fourth transmission.the problem consists of poor shifting (hard shifts, untimely shifting, shifts into od when it is off, and you must depress gas pedal moderatley to proceed in reverse)i reported this problem initially on nov of 98, and the dealership replaced the transmission each time free of charge but they only would put a re-manufactured transmission in it due to they meet the same specs. As new transmissions.i had the engineer from ford at my dealership two weeks ago and he found no problems but the technician that normally provides service on my truck stated it was not acting up for some reason on that day.i know there have been multiple problems with this transmission, (the town of wallkill, ny dial-a-bus has- i think over 80 replacement e-4od transmissions - it is also serviced at village ford)i have also found out from other f-series diesel automatic owners that many have had problems with theirs.i feel i have had the run-around by ford and i am very dissatisfied with this vehicle.please look into this problem - i didnot find any info on your web site but i know there are many technical service bulletins on this component. Thank you in advance! - kurt hahn

Purchased this truck new from the dealer at 51,000 miles they had to rebuild the transmission truck then worked good for a while then they had to replace the trans computer at my expense now at 81,000 miles the transmission is doing the same thing as at 51,000 miles i was told by the dealer that the transmission is only covered for 12,000 miles i feel ford should be responsible for this seeing as there must be some sort of defect in this unit as others are having the same problem with hard shifting in an automatic from 1st to second and having passing gear kick in all the time.

I have a two year old f350 powertruck diesel and the transmission has gone out of it at 49,000 miles.it is just out of warranty.i believe this to be poor quality workmanship/design when i spend over $30,000 dollars for a vehicle and the transmission goes out of it before 50,000 miles.i never tow over 6,000 lbs with this vehicle and have only completed two trips in excess of 200 miles.all other trips are under 100 miles.the ford dealer said they might be able to help if i could provide all receipts showing i had the required maintenance completed.i generally service all vehicles myself and have little or no receipts.when i did have a reputable company do my maintenance they were and are unable to locate the appropriate information in their data base.fordwants to put a remanufactured or rebuild back in at my expense and i feel this is completely wrong and i bought a vehicle that should have been built much better.any assistance or direction in this matter would be greatly appreciated.thank you, sincerely, dan yopp

Transmission cooler lines rubs on the exhaust downpipe from the turbo.this rubbing has worn through 3/4 of the transmission cooler line with a failure, causing the transmission fluid to be sprayed directly onto the turbo downpipe.this is fire/transmission failure major risk.

Traveling at 50 mph the transfer case locked up and the truck skidded off the road. Damage to front end, engine, transmission. Transfer case replaced. Fought to get transmission replaced as well. Still fighting to get front end and engine damage repaired. Have contacted attorney general for the state of maine. Has contactedrepairing dealership as well as selling dealership. Rear axle wheels came off and could have rolled in someones path and caused an accident.

When driving the clutch is too small for the engine and the transmission, causing the clutch to keep burning out.t vehicle has been in the shop five times for repairs, and the dealer states the clutch is too small for the other parts in the vehicle.

While driving and shifting gears the clutch has been rattling. Dealer says that the diesel engineis too powerfulfor the clutch installed in the vehicle.

The planetarygear failed while driving. It completely discentrated inside the transmission. A local forddealer rebuilt transmission, but now, when the truck is warmed up and the transmission is hot, when you engage reverse it takes off on its own.i have to hold it back with the brake and it eventually stalls. This has happened repeatedly.

Transmission failed prematurely.*mjs

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-350 with a diesel engine. Thecontact stated that when he stopped at a traffic light, stop, the brake pedal felt unusually weak and there was a strong odor of brake fluid in the vehicle. The contact then accelerated to speeds of 10 mph and made a turn. In doing so, he noticed flames from underneath the hood near the master cylinder. The engine was shut off and the fire department was called to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries. A fire report was filed accordingly. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the dealer did not want the vehicle on the property and the contact to remove it immediately. There were no repairs made to the vehicle. The contact stated the vehicle was sold to a local junkyard. The approximate failure mileage was 275,404 and the current mileage was 275,404.

A steel brake line on my truck rusted and ruptured causing a complete brake failure. This is the second occurrence of this problem on this vehicle. The brake line had rusted and had a partial failure, causing a leak. The rusted section was replaced about 5 years ago. The recent line failure caused an accident.

The abs light indicator came on and indicates problem with the brakes. Manual states to return vehicle to dealer, repair work done five times. Brakes would pull to the left or right side, and steering was off. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem.

Intermittently whenbrakes are appliedvehicle experiences extended stopping distance.

Abs brakes failed, vehicle lost control, resulting in a collision.

Abs problem; when applying the brakes during normal braking/ dry road conditions/ regular road surface, the truck pulls real hard to the left, the dealer is unable to correct the braking problem, and stated that the braking system was normal.

Dealerand certified mechanic stated that nothing was wrong with it.rotors seem to be warped.front wheels squealand grab when brakes are applied, excess dust was found in rear brake drums.dealer stated that front end could not be aligned, after market comber bushings were installed on vehicle which was able to be aligned.

The brakes on this f350 truck lock up intermittently, front and rear, and has done this since about 8,000 miles.the dealer has made many, many unsuccessful attempts to fix the problem.since the problem is intermittent, when the ford rep was called and came to investigate the brakes were working fine at that time.we have tried to get them to take the vehicle and drive it for more than 5 mins. To check it and he said he did not have time.we have worked with the dealer until we feel we can no longer drive this vehicle.it is unsafe.several people at the dealership have driven it and have had the brakes lock up but not the person in "authority" to report to ford.even an outside service person has driven it and experienced the locking up of the brakes.we are seeking legal counsel at this point since we are getting no help.we have tried to get ford to buy back the vehicle and they are not willing to do this at this point.so i have requested an arbitration package from the ford customer assistance center today.they refused to send me copies of the reports i have called in to them concerning this problem too.so it leaves me no choice but to move on.ford has been unwilling to listen.maybe they will listen in court.

Consumer was driving approximately 45mph when he took his foot off the gas pedal to begin slowing down for entering the beltway, when he tried to press the brakes again, he noticed that the vehicle did not have any brakes.

While braking, with no warning, brakes failed.brake line running from diverter to rear axle rusted through behind front fuel tank at plastic bracket.there was no pedal resistance and no braking at all.all fluid was lost.the hole in the line is about 0.250 inch long and about 0.045 inch wide.there was never a problem or a soft pedal prior to this.luckily this occurred in a valley in a driveway while turning around so there was no damage.this would have been potentially catastrophic had it occurred while driving on the road or while maneuvering on a steep grade.the truck is clean with no body rust.i am replacing the brake line.this should never have happened on a 7 year old vehicle.

Brake line rubbing against heat shield, causing fluid leak.

Master cylder malfunction.

Braking system malfunctioned, causing no braking abilty whichresulted ina crash.dealer replaced rotors twice, and had rotors turned twice. Also, replacedbrake master cylinder, and broken rear brakes twice. However, problemreoccurred.please provide further information and vin#.

Vehicle lost control of vehicle due to steering failure resulting in collision (ohio traffic crash report). Mjs

The collapsable upper steering column is very worn and sloppy and needs to be replaced.i feel this is an extreme safety hazard that could lead to possible loss of steering.there is no recall for this part and i will have to pay for it out of my own pocket.since there is no new part no. For this part, i feel it will only go out again in another 60,000 mi.this part should be adressed and a new recall part should be assigned.

While driving 35 mph steering wheel shook, causing the steering wheel to lock.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer forinspection.the causeof the failure had not been determined.

Power steering was lost when my hydraulic pressure hose was blown out of the fitting that threads into the power steering pump.the local ford dealer parts department had seen so many of these hoses replaced that the employee at the counter knew what type of vehicle it went on without asking any questions.he was also able to retrieve the new hose from the warehouse without consulting a computer for a part number or storage location.this tells me (and he eventually confirmed) that these hose fittings have been failing regularly.the new hose has the same fitting design but it also has a tag which clearly states, "do not exceed 20 ftlbs torque".the parts guy was emphatic that i follow this torque specification.i will note the fitting design is such that excessive torque could damage an internal clip which seals and holds the hose tube to the fitting.i believe there is a good chance these fittings were over-torqued at the factory and is the reason for failure.note that my fitting failed at a low speed in a remote setting and nobody was injured - the outcome could have been very different had it failed while turning through a busy intersection.

There is a bolt thatcomes loose, causing power steering to go completely out. This has happened twice. Dealer replaced part, and problem has reoccurred.

When the brakes are applied the vehicle loses power steering.the dealer has attemped to repair problem several times.consumer states while pressing the brake hard, the power steering quits working, it also does this when not in motion, dealer has replaced the gear box and power steering unit, however problem still exists, consumer states he wrecked in 02/97, however does not know if this is related to the accident, consumer wants this problem repaired or wants a refund.

While the vehicle was being driven all electrical power and steeringwas lost without prior warning. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

Dt*: the contact stated the steering wheel became very difficult to turn while backing up.the vehicle was towed to the dealership who determined the power steering hose came loose, which caused the vehicle to leak power steering fluid and lose all power steering.the dealership informed the contact the diesel engine vibration caused the rubber seal that held the power steering hose on to come loose.updated 9/18/2006 -

I have had two of these firestone steel tex r4s tires "blow out" while driving on the interstate with my family.the first one was in august of 1999 in ohio on a warm, but not hot day.we were driving along and boom it went. Fortunately, it was one of the rear duel tires and not a front tire.i was able to control the vehicle and get it safely stopped.firestone replaced this tire.the other was in march of 1999 on a cool day in indiana.we were driving and got a terrible shimmy and the vehicle became difficult to drive.suddenly, boom, another rear duel tire went.i again managed to get it off the road and got it changed.firestone wouldn't give me a new tire on this one.they allowed a replacement value.i am disgusted with firestone tires.last march, before the media attention to the problem, i had vowed to never have another firestone tire on my vehicles.i shudder to think what might have happened if one of the blowouts had been a front tire on this 14,000 pound vehicle.please pursue this with vigor.i want new "non firestone" tires that i can trust on my future trips.thank you. Cruise control does not work properly, will not hold when towing motorcycle trailer and bike. Mjs

In 2003, my 1997 ford f-350 crew cab lost the cruise control and on several occasions would not shift out of park. On 05 sep 2003 my truck, with the engine cold, caught fire while parked in my driveway, catching my house on fire. This resulted in a claims to both my homeowners and my vehicle insurance. My vehicle was a total loss in the fire. The vin number for my truck was: [xxx].

A police report was not taken.the vehicle was towed to the insurers lot for further investigation.the manufacturer was not yet notified.

The accelerator has malfunctioned 3 times, leaving me and my passengers stranded at various locations. The truck will start but there is no response of the engine to the accelerator pedal making it impossible to move. It is a "fly by wire" system which has no direct mechanical linkage from the pedal to the engine and the pedal assembly has now been replaced twice. The first time was at 30374 miles on 7/23/98 and now again at 47801 miles on 10/13/99. This is not a component subject to abuse and i believe that this is clearly a manufacturing defect but i still had to pay $100. Deductable on the last replacement.

Why has ford recalled only later model trucks for the criuse control fire issue. It is not a problem limited to those years. I experienced the exact same problem with my 1997 f-350.
