We purchased this truck new to tow our 5th wheel. At 16,000 miles the turbo was replaced under warranty. Now at 31,412 miles, again, the turbo had to be replaced but this time at our expense. This second turbo rusted and was not repairable. Our truck has had all of the recommended maintenance done at the appropriate time/mileage. It has never had any after market equipment used on it or has it been abused in any way. This problem exists because of the poorly engineered and designed engine/egr system. It puts moisture into the turbo without a method to remove it. Ford needs to step up and stand behind this engine that they contracted international to engineer, design, and build for them. We implore nhtsa to step up and hold ford responsible to their customers and their product with recalls to fix the inherent problems that this engine and vehicle present.

My husband and i purchased a used 2004 ford f350 heavy duty truck in summer of 2006.i would say within the first 6-8 months of owning the truck we started having issues with the truck cutting out (no power).we had the truck into the shop on several occasions and they changed out a few hoses and did a few other things but the problem continued to occur. The truck was originally under warranty when the problem started and now they won't back the problem.we have had the truck in several times and they can't seem to find the problem and the truck continues to cut out (lose power).the truck loses power while driving down the road almost every other time we drive the truck. My husband and i have crossed major highways and had the truck lose power and almost got hit from oncoming traffic going 65-70mph.the defect of this truck is going to take mine or my husbands life along with innocent passengers.it's a danger to have on the road but ford can't find the defect and won't stand behind their product.i'm writing to you because the truck is going to take a life and it's going to be on the bloody hands of ford co. I have contacted ford several times they state it isn't their problem.i have contacted mn attorney general and they have written ford a letter with no results.i am also going to contact local tv stations and let them know the danger that ford has allowed on the roads. I'm hoping you can help.thanks for your time,

There have been approximately 15 incidentas were the vehicle has stalled, while being driven or when attempting to stop at a stop sign or turn. The vehiclehas two methods of stalling - the first method is be idling very rough - as if miss firing on a cylinder/ timing issues where it blows black smoke. The second method is if you are stopped with your foot hopefully on the brake - the vehicle will rev up and lurch forward - if on the brake it will sometimes then stall. The vehicle has been to the shop at least 4 times - with multiple incidents per visit, the shop had replaced the egr valve and had reprogrammed the pcm everytime in the shop. Which takes me back to lousy fuel economy and has not yet fixed the problem. I am not happy.

Engine dies and/or looses power.happens at random times.the following items have been changed:ficm, , engine oil (thought problem due to oil pump), fuel filters, cam sensor switch, cleaned egr valve and all passages, replaced injector pressure controller, replaced egr valve.last trip to dealer was may 3, 2010.no problems until today when pulling out of a side road onto main road engine died with vehicle blocking both lanes of traffic-push time--accident avoided only because no traffic.the basic problem with trying to get this vehicle repaired is no codes are set.after months of fails, it set a "bad ficm" code, changed ficm, no change in problem, repeated trips to dealer, finally get a "bad cam sensor" code, changed cam sensor, no change in problem.dealer looked at egr, parameters determined to be out of limits, cleaned egr & all associated passages, ran fine for 10 days, failed 3 days in a row, old dealer out of business, new dealer changed both ipc & egr at my direction since they reported to me both items could cause the problem, ran fine from may 3 to may 8, 2010.multiple failures today with one leaving me blocking both lanes of traffic at us25 & double culvert, georgetown, ky.get vehicle out of harm's way, get it restarted, fails multiple times, then decides to run ok.

I own a 2004 f350 super duty ford 6.0 turbodiesel. I have had to replace the egr cooler three times starting in 2006. The last problem i had started out like the egr cooler then i developed and oil lose the when i ask the diesel mech. I was told the it sounded like a head gasket. That same diesel mech. Informed me that in the last 5 years he himself had to repair literally hundreds of 6.0 ford diesels for the same problem. My problemis that the problems i had started after the warranty was out and i was unable to get an extended warranty on the 6.0 engine due to what the warranty agent described as a major engine development flaw by the 6.0 designers. Looking on the internet i have seen thousands of complaints for the same thing. Yet i have seen no help from ford.

The contact owns a 2004 ford f350 superduty.the vehicle has been serviced for the past year and a half because it lacks power at low speeds.the failure was noticed while driving 5 mph.when the vehicle attempts to accelerate from a stop, it barely picks up speed.the failure causes the vehicles following behind the contact to almost rear end her vehicle.the vehicle has been to the dealer approximately ten times for the same failure.the dealer keeps attempting to repair the replaced turbo charger and turbo pipes, but the failure continues.they were unable to determine the cause of failure.an engineer from ford stated that they needed more time to diagnose the failure.the current mileage was 33,744 and failure mileage was 18,000.

Ford 6.0 diesel sold to 384000 people and endangers every one of them each time they get in one. They never know when or where it will break down or how much danger it will put them in. My truck has never been right since i bought it. The problems will be never ending. If ford thinks the trucks are ok then why are they suing international harvester for the engines. Why can' t something be done to protect the public from this corporate injustice.

Ford f-350 sd 6.0 l diesel, several times while driving, truck began to surge/cut-off. This happened under load while going uphill. Truck taken to several dealerships cross country during trip. No one able to diagnose or reproduce fault.

2004 ford f350 truck. Consumer states defective egr valvebeing replaced several times.*tgwthe consumer stated he has been to the dealer 10 times due to numerous check engine light issues. The engine idled fast. The dealer stated it was normal as the vehicle had a hydro-boost.

I have a ford f-350 with a 6.0 diesel engine. This engine has been nothing but trouble. Which creates a hazard for all who own one and to the public . This is the second time i have complained to you about this engine. Why aren't you people doing something with ford and international. Two times my truck has dumped half the oil out going down the road. Once when the high pressure pump blew a seal and again when the oil cooler and egr cooler busted. If this truck is doing it then all the other 6.0 diesel trucks on the road are too. If you google the oil coolers and egr coolers you will see just how big the problem is. If this is not a hazard then i don't know what is. If they sold say, 300,000 of these trucks a year from 2003 to 2007 , that's 5 years times 300,000 times 5 quarts (less than half, truck holds 15 qts)5 x 300,000 x 5 = 7,500,000 qts of possible oil spilled or 1,875,000 gallons of oil spilled if these trucks only spill 5 quarts over their life time. Most of the trucks will do it more than once. When the oil cooler busts the oil goes into the radiator and out the over flow into the environment. Updated 05/04/10.

2004 ford f-350 with a oil leak. Consumer states that the oil leak was between the engine block and the bell housing for transmission. He states that the vehicle has been serviced 7-8 times for the same oil leak.the manufacturer stated even though there was oil seepage, there was no safety or diesel engine durability issue involved.the consumer was informed the oil leak was normal. The manufacturer's opinion was that the oil was leaking from the oil pan, however, the consumer disagreed with their findings.the steering damper was replaced due to a leak.

We purchased 4, 2004 f-350 ford diesel 6.0 liter ambulance conversions. All 4 vehicles are having reoccurring engine failures. The problems began on some of the vehicles at low mileage. The dealer continues to "patch" the engine problem.i have communicated with several other ambulance services and have found that they are having the same problems. The failure of these engines while transporting critical patients creats a very risky and dangerous situation for the patients and a hugh liability issue for the paramedics and our company.last night another engine failed while transporting an 18 year old with a broken neck to a higher level hospital. The delivery of the patient was delayed unnecessarily because another ambulance service had to be called and waited on to get to my crew to transport the patient. This happens almost each time i sent one of these ambulances on a trip. Not only is the patient placed in danger, but my company is quickly getting an unfavorably reputation because of these breakdowns. This is costing us business. My paramedics are refusing to drive these vehicles because of the risk of liability that they may have knowing the mechanical history of these vehicles. All of the trucks are still under the 100,000 mile warranty. Ford has shown no interest in helping us with this issue. Even if the engines make it to 100,000 miles , i know that they will not last much past that.please look into this. We are paying good money out each month for vehicles that will not do the job . The georgia lemon law does not apply to us . Help!

Two separate times my f350 diesel stalled while driving and then kicked back in 20 seconds later. Dealer states no problem found. Now truck stalled out while at intersection trying to turn left. This time it took 16 starts before it would move.

I have a 2004 ford f350 and a f250 both have the 6.0l diesel engine.there is a real problem with the fuel injectors and turbo and possibly the fuel pumpaccording to the dealer. Both trucks load up and start to run very rought the only way to stop the situation is to floor the throttle intill it clears up producing an extremely amount of black smog. Several times the trucks have stalled while driving leaving us without power brakes and steering. Ret urn trips to the nearest dealer have not been a good experince they tell us that because there are so many 6.0l diesels with the same problem ford is slapping them on thier hands for fixing these problems with the driviability warrenty. I left the dealer not sure where to turn the trucks are not fixed and this conditions do create a hazard.the dealer even told me they had a whole fleet of school buses with the same problem they were fixing so the problem is not just my problem they know of the problem and even know of the solution without even looking but it appears ford is holding the dealers hostage and leaving the customers with a hazardous vechicle. I feel this is not a driviablity warrenty but a serious recall issue.thanks for any help you can do with this

Dt: the vehicle stops in the middle of the road without warning. The vehicle has been seen by the dealer 30 or 40 times. The more the vehicle is worked on by the dealer the worse the problem becomes. After vehicles quits it will not start for a few minutes. Then when it starts it smokes. The dealer didrecall repair the wiring harness. Also, repairs weremade to transmission, radiator, wiring harness, turbo hose, and reprogrammed the computer. All these repairs have not fixed the problem. The dealer last instructed the owner to wait until it quit and then they would tow it to the dealer. The vehicle had this quitting problem from the time it was new. There were never any lights or warning before the vehicle dies. The last problem occurred about twenty minutes ago, and at this time the vehicle was not taken to the dealer.

Dt: the contact stated thata turbo charger failureresulted in a blown head gasket. There have been no parts repaired or replaced at this time. The vehicle is currently at the dealer service waiting for repair. The problem is not covered under warranty. He was told the reason he experienced problems with his truck was due to the after markets parts installed on the vehicle. Updated 12/07/05.

Dt*:the contact stated intermittently while traveling 60 mph, the vehicle lost power but did not stall.the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the turbo was replaced.this occurred at least four more times and the dealership reattached the hose from the turbo to the engine.the vehicle has not been driven since that repair. 06/02/06 updatedturbo hose to intake manifold continues to blow off causing loss of power and large amount of smoke emitted from exhaust pipe.

I have a 2004 f-350 turbo diesel 6.0 l. Truck.the truck surges when you drive it.it cuts out.it dies on the road when you are driving it.we have made several complaints to rich ford in edgewood and albuquerque.this is a very serious safety hazard.they have attempted to fix it four times.the last time i took it to rich ford in albuquerque was because i was waiting to pull out into traffic with my foot on the brake and the truck was surging forward into traffic.i was very scared as was my ten year old son.i had my foot pressed as hard as i could on the break and that was not stopping the truck from moving forward.i drove straight to the dealership, rich ford of albuquerque, and they told me that they could not service my vehicle that day.i would have to wait two weeks.i was scared to drive the truck home.i am afraid for my family's safety.this is a dangerous vehicle and ford is not willing to do anything about it.they have made several attempts to fix the problem but they can not "duplicate" the problem when they have it in their custody.this is a dangerous vehicle and should be taken off the road.this started about six months ago maybe longer.the last time i took it to the dealership where they turned me away was february 1, 2006.

Drove truck 9 hours felt ill. Went to doctor he ordered blood test. Result was carbon monoxide poisoning. I was told not to drive vehicle.

I have a 2004 f350 diesel truck.as i was traveling on i75, the vehicle had a sudden loss of power and speed dropped to below 30 mph.this caused a problem as i was moving substantially slower than surrounding traffic which was a safety problem.examination of fuel tank by a repair person showed a delamination of the tank.i have had the tank cleaned out but will have to replace the tank.in researching the problem on the internet this seems to be a common problem with 2004 and 2005 ford trucks.

Truck started running a little sluggish first two days and then began running rough and sluggish at time of acceleration and then blow big puff of black smoke out and take off with allot more power than normal.. It is at ford dealership being repaired now having injectors, fuel pump and fuel tank recoated because they say ford has a national back order on these tanks and will take 6 months to get. This tells me along with the problems i am finding other people are having online that this is a big problem.

The contact owns a 2004 ford f-350 sd diesel. The contact was driving approximately 60-70 mph with a camper in tow as the vehicle stalled with the abs warning light illuminated.the dashboard also became abnormally dim.after inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the vehicle battery was dead and replaced it with the camper battery. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where they performed a diagnostic, but, they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle battery was recharged and the failure did not recur for another four months. The vehicle was then taken to the same local mechanic where the mechanic replaced the fuel injector. The computer was removed from the vehicle and taken to an authorized dealer for a reset flash. The vehicle performed as normal until the failure recurred one year later. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was awaiting the replacement of the fuel injector. The contact referenced recall 05v270000 (electrical system:wiring) but did not confirm if the vehicle was included in the recall.the approximate failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was approximately 150,000.

My 2004 ford 350 super duty began irregular fuel feeding while i wasdriving down rt 95 from va to ga.i pulled off at an exit in kingsland, ga.and got a room at the days inn.while attempting to park in the motel parking lot...with my foot on the brake...the engine surged and the truck moved at least 15-20 feet forward because of the fuel surging. I had my foot on the brake and never touched the accelerator and i could not stop the truck frommoving forward.i had it towed to the local ford dealership where they diagnosed a bad "sensor."they charged me about $1,400 for repairs and it has been working fine since.i am reporting this to nhtsa, in part, because of the toyota publicity recently.i'm not a toyota fan, i'm a ford loyalist, but it occurred to me that a surge like the one i experienced in my super duty could have resulted in injury or death to others if it had occurred under other circumstances.my truck is the 6.0 liter model and only had about 52,000 miles on it at the time it began surging.i can probably find the receipt for repairs and the name/number of the ford dealership who repaired the truck if needed.thanks!

Egr cooler on my ford f-350 super duty diesel went out a little over a year ago. Truck was under warranty. They fixed it with about a $100 fee. Just today my truck started having the same issue so i took it in and they told me it was the egr cooler and that because of that issue it has ruined the head gaskets also. The mechanic at ford told me that most trucks that have this issue will always have this issue recurring every year or so. Wondering why this has not been recalled by ford. After the mechanic told me about the issue i googled this issue and there are so many that are having this issue or have had it before.

Getting on entrance ramp i35 north, f350 loss power no acceleration, semi truck almost ran over us, due to no power, white smoke coming out the pipe, then truck stalled and would not restart. I was leaving my home with my travel trailer for vacation. I made it to the first traffic light and had great difficulty stopping the vehicle. The brake pedal went straight to the floor, i needed to use the trailer brakes to stop. After driving very slowly home i diagnosed the problem as a faulty brake line. This was not an ordinary type line, this was a stainless steel line that had some type of sealing device in the ends that failed. There are two more of the same type lines on the vehicle. I have great concern that if one of these lines failed will the other two fail? this could have been a horrific accident had i not been able to use trailer brakes to stop the vehicle.

Dt*:the contact stated the brake pedal goes to the floor when depressed and takes too long to stop the vehicle.when towing a trailer, weighing 14,000 pounds, the vehicle will not stop at a red light.this vehicle should be able to tow 15,000 pounds according to the owner's manual. Three weeks after purchase, the contact was going to replace the brake pads, but could not get the tire off.an independent repair shop stated the pads did not need to be replaced and the vehicle should be taken to the dealership.the dealership stated the vehicle is operating correctly.the contact had the brake pads, pedal, and fluid replaced in an effort to remedy the problem.

I was driving down the interstate with my 2004 f-350 dually with my dump trailer on the back. I was headed down a slight hill when the steering wheel started to shake. The front wheels started to move back and forth from left to right and right to left very fast but in short strokes. The shaking and the strokes began to getlonger so the wheels were turning more and more each time the wheels turned back and forth.. The shaft that comes of of the steering box that goes to the pitman arm sheared in half. This caused me to loose control of the truck because i had no steering. When i hit the brakes the wheels locked completely right, causing me to go off the highway, i hit a bank on the side of the highway head on, then the trailer pulled me around 180 degrees and i rolled the truck and trailer.

Dt:the consumer owns a 2004 ford f350 super duty. The steering locked and the consumer was unable to steer the vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.this problem occurred everyday.

2005 ford f-350 crew cab dually, 2 wheel drive experienced front wheel oscillation (aka "death wobble") while traveling at 65 mph on interstate 10 eastbound near blythe, ca.the truck shook so bad i nearly drove off the highway before i slowed down enough for it to damp out and stop shaking.i had a slide in camper on the truck at the time.i understand this is an issue with these f-series ford pick up trucks and ford has done little to resolve it.the truck is pure stock with only 35,600 miles on it.my examination of the steering linkage revealed no loose or worn ball joints or tie rod ends.

Driver was leaving base yard with 2004 ford f350 sd. While driving on a side street at approximately 15 mph, there was a total loss of steering control the vehicle crashed into a chain link fence as the driver was trying to brake to a stop. The steering sector shaft sheared off right at the pitman arm.

When going around curves, hitting small bumps, or stopping, the front end starts to shake violently. Slowing down or stopping is the only way to stop the shaking. The truck has been taken to several repair shops with no avail. They can't find anything wrong. This problem is very dangerous. I'm getting scared to drive it.

The paint is flaking on my 04 f350 crew cab.

2004 f350 truck with new tires put on by langdale ford dealer are wrong size and a damaged wheel - i bought this truck on sept 2 2009, during test drive i advise salesman chris lane about a rough ride and i though maybe a tire was out of balance. He told me that it was flat spots from sitting on the lot and it would smooth out as i drove it. After 1 & a half weeks i called back and was referred to a jack sr. Whom is the service manager. He advised me they would for $80-85.00 hr. Put it on a computer and check it out. I told him it was a tire or wheel problem and no computer would be needed but he refused any further help and was very rude. Ford mtr, co. Was contacted and they contacted langdale on my behalf but got brushed off too. The wheel was found by a local tire shop and they said that i had a unsafe wheel, it had been heated up by a cutting torch and made to fit this truck. They order me another tire and put it on the spare rim that had the correct tire size but would not match the other tires on the truck. Upon my visit to the tire shop i was told that the wrong size tires had been put on by langdale ford. They had put size- 245/75r16 wider tires on the truck and it was suppose to be 235/85r16 narrow tires and that i could have a problem when weight was added to these tires in the rear (duel tire truck) causing the tires to heat up and blow out. Luckily we found these problems before traveling with a load and the bad wheeldid not brake the studs. These wheels/tires are heavy and could have been a bad and deadly missile on the highway. I had also found the tail pipe lose from the back two hangers the day i brought the truck home but i fixed these. The dealers need to be held responsible for safety of vehicles they put on the public highways.

Toyota vehicles are not the only ones which exhibit unintended acceleration.i own a 2004 ford f-350 heavy duty truck which has periodically surged 500-1000 rpm since about 5k odometer miles.this now occurs about one out of two times i drive the vehicle for an hour or so.i have had it into three different dealerships, numerous times, and they have been unable to identify the cause of the problem.i have been told that they 'can't just throw parts at it' in order to fix it.unfortunately, the time (5 years) portion of the warranty has lapsed, though the truck only has 48k miles, with warranty being 100k miles or 5 years. On another occasion, the engine died after surging while navigating through a turn, causing power steering failure and nearly resulted in my hitting a telephone pole. The following account describes only one incident of many i've experienced in this vehicle'i'd be glad to detail others.one month ago, the truck suddenly lurched forward while i was stopped at a light, and i was unable to halt it until i had reached the other side of the intersection.there was a pedestrian who had already crossed in front of the truck, who would have been seriously injured or killed had the timing been different.had there been a vehicle stopped in front of me, or cross-traffic vehicles, there would have certainly been a collision.this incident took place one-half block from a school zone for an elementary school. As a retired educator and former marine, i consider myself able to respond appropriately in precarious situations.yet i drive this vehicle only when i must, and never when weather conditions are at all questionable, even though it's my 4 x 4 for winter weather'my wife and son no longer drive it, ever.i would like your help in convincing ford that this issue is one of safety, and should be covered under warranty until it is resolved.i undoubtedly was not 'forceful and demanding' enough in my numerous previous trips to the dealerships.

The contact owns a 2004 ford f350. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled, lunged forward and the rpm's increased. When the engine stalled the power steering failed and he had no control over the steering function. Ford was notified and stated that they would contact the dealer nearest to him and discuss it with them.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure started about one year ago and had become progressively worse. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. The current mileage was 95,000.

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle jumps from 600rpm to 1000rpm at a complete stop without touching the accelerator. The service dealer was not able to determine the problem.

Truck with 6.0l diesel engine experiences stalling without warning while driving and may or may not restart this has happened on several occasions.

Cruise control cables jamming throttles openon fleet of 2001-2004 ford f350 utility body trucks with 6.8l v10 engines.occurring about january 25 2006.another unithad the accelerator jam wide open. Unit burned up the braking components from driving to our repair shop.discovered the cruise control cable end guiding tube would fold down onto the intake manifold and jam the throttle wide open.2001 through 2003 units affected currently had these cables disconnected and had no further recurrences.occurring january 22, 2007, also had the accelerator jam wide open.a newer 2004 unit, this one had an accident running into a wall.again, discovered the cruise control cable end guiding tube would fold down onto the intake manifold and jam the throttle wide open.we will be looking for units affected and will disconnected their cables until a remedy is available.we speculate this can be caused by these combination of these factors:1)influenced by driving conditions that promote rapid cycling from wider throttle openings followed by the immediate closure of the throttle; as with stop and go driving demands.2)cruise control cable end guide component "drooping" with higher under hood engine temperatures.this allows the cable guiding sleeves to not correctly overlap and prevent it from freely sliding through.this forces the cable guide sleeve down to jam onto the manifold. 3) harmonic frequency amplification of combined vibrations.vibrations generated from the vehicle pitching from the road and acceleration and deceleration motions.the kinetic energy of the moving cruise control cable components tries to continue it's forward opening motion when it is suddenly reversed with the throttle closure.any excess cable within the guiding sleeve may still be moving in the opposite direction upon throttle closure; possibly jamming inside the sleeve.

The contact owns a 2004 ford f-350 sd. The contact stated that the frontpassenger side rim split in half while driving 70 mph. The vehicle was towing a haul trailer. There was a lateral crack that went all the way through the seals. The dealer was notified of the failure who advised that he should contact the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 173,000. Kmj

Drivers side rear tires came off my 2004 ford f-350 dually diesel 4x4 pick-up while driving on jan. 23, 2009.resulting in damage to both inner and outer rims, and wheel studs.
