The contact owns a 2002 ford f-350 sd.while driving between 60-70 mph on normal road conditions, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle vibrated violently.the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for repair.on two separate occasions, the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer for the identical failure, but with no resolutions.recently, the vehicle turned onto two wheels after exhibiting the violent vibration.a police report was filed and the driver sustained minor injuries.the vehicle was towed and completely destroyed.the cause of failure has not been determined at this time.the failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was unknown.4/01/09 *njupdated 04/06/09.

Out of state on vacation.shut vehicle off and then it wouldn't start.called ford warranty - only ford dealer in area couldn't get it in until the following week.talked to friend that is a diesel mechanic who advised that the cps always goes bad in 7.3's and to replace it.located one at napa for $190.00 - borrowed tools and installed.truck then started right up and has run fine since.only 46,000 miles on truck!!took old cps to local ford dealer along with bill and am attempting to recover expenses under warranty as the manual says it is covered.local dealer wasn't very optimistic.

7.3 l diesel engine in my 2002 ford f-350 would just stop dead at numerous random times, sometimes while just sitting still and idling, others while driving in traffic.after turning ignition off, engine would restart and run normally.dealer replaced the cam position sensor (cps), which solved the problem.

Fuse #48 will blow when engaging overdrive button on gear shift lever.with blown fuse vehicle will only idle, leaving vehicle powerless on highway.occurs periodically, depending on usage of overdrive button.to date the source of problem causing the fuse to blow has not been located.

Re: ford truck 4x4 f350 diesel.this is my 2nd complaint to you in about a year for the same problem. There are no warning signs, just failure of the alternator. We have a 2002 ford f350 super duty diesel, crew cab, 7.3l engine. Today, we are installing the 5th or 6th (we've stopped counting, but have records) alternator!!this occurs at least every year, and we have the old alternator now. This is beyond ridiculous, expensive, and unsafe. It warrants a look see by you. Our truck only has 88 thousand (can't see, the alternator is out, but this is approximate)miles. Please, help! if this were to happen while we were going down the highway, at high speeds, someone could be hurt or killed.

Cps sensor failed while drivingonfederal highway in washington. As i headed to work around 7:30 pm in the 2002 ford f350 turbo diesel and while moving at a pace of61-65 mph everything cut out: engine, brakes, etc. I had to move to the side of the road as quickly and carefully as possible to avoid being hit from behind. Once situated on the side of the road i tried to start the truck over and over again, andit started.got going again at 61-65 mph and it happened again. It took 45 minutesto get the truck home , driving it in that fashion. I bought a new cps the next day from international for over $150.00.i didn't know that i was able to report a problem of this importance until i found out that a lot of people have been having the same thing happen to them... Just found out how to file a complaint about 30 minutesago. The dates that i have listed below were not very accurate because i have forgotten the exact time and date.

Cps (camshaft position sensor) failure on 2002 ford superduty powerstroke.i noticed my engine cutting out slightly at times.then my cps failed leaving my vehicle dead at multiple traffic lights before i could finally change the part.

My ford f350 superduty quad cab lariat le diesel had been sitting in my back yard for about 5 hours with the block heater plugged in. Iheardan explosion and looked out the window. The front of my truck was on fire. The fire consumed the intercooler, air conditioner evaporator and all the headlights, grill, rubber on the bumper and all plastic, rubber parts, wiring, hoses under the hood including both batteries.

Shifting the transmission, fuse blown, every time truck was driven, loose instrument panel, tack, speedometer, gas pedal vehicle will not move, replaced shift lever and wiring harness. I asked for the old parts, they had thrown themaway.

Loss of the cps sensor on my 02 ford f350.the sensor went out while i was traveling down i87.i was able to pull off the road but the failure left me stranded with no cell service in the middle of a northeaster on 4/16/07.

I have a 2002 f350 ford truck, i was driving along when i heard this big pop noise with shaking i stop and smelled gas ,i shut it off open the hood and the motor was starting to catch on fire, needless to say the spark plug blew out hit the coil and fuel line which ruptured it and caused the fire. If this had been my wife or one of my kids driving it they might have been killed. I think ford should step up and recall there problems that they no they have and fix them before somebody gets hurt or worse killed, this isn't right that they can get away with this knowing what can happen, they said i caused it,how did i do that when hundreds if not thousands have had this same problem. I hope that you can do something about this before it's to late ! thanks they fixed it and it done it again.

Vsm has failed this controls the door ajar and power locks.power locks fail to function or are hyper active (locking and unlocking by themselves).door ajar light flashing and emitting a sound indication a vehicle's door is not secure while driving after vehicle has warmed up.

2002 ford 350 developed problems with the braking system.*mrthe consumer stated even under moderate braking the front rotors warped which caused brake and handling problems.the brakes have been an ongoing problem.the belt tensioner and battery was replaced. The check engine light illuminated.

Driving my 2002 ford superduty f350, no warning, driving in traffic and truck died in a tunnel. Result was cam position sensor. Over $400 in parts, labor and towing bill.caused traffic to slow down and go around me.

This happened several months ago, but my f-350 power stroke had the dreaded cam position failure.my daughter was stuck at an intersection in 5 o'clock traffic and the truck was dead.i carried a spare sensor in the glove box knowing that this is a very common failure.imagine being in the left lane of the interstate when it decides to fail.lose power steering and power brakes.read about cps failures on "thedieselstop.com".could fail when turning left in front of on coming traffic.i feel this is a very dangerous flaw in this motor.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350 super duty.the contact stated that smoke and flames billowed from the hood of the vehicle.the wiring from the alternator was completely burnt.the dealer stated that the wiring failed and they made repairs, however, the fire recurred. The current and failure mileages were 80,000.*updated 12/12/07

The contact owns a 2002 ford f-350 sd. The contact stated that he plugged an engine block warmer up for approximately 1.5 hours. The contact later heard a loud explosion and found that the vehicle caught on fire. The police and fire department were contacted. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and they deemed the vehicle destroyed. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance to the contact. The failure and current mileages was approximately 150,000.

I have had this truck for about one year and have blown four spark plugs so far.

On the morningof saturday march 22, 2008. My 2002 ford f350 super duty engine caught on fire while sitting in my driveway. It was sitting for roughly 10 hrs. When it started on fire. Vehicle is destroyed and did some damage to my house, but thankfully no one was hurt.

My husband and i bought a new f350 ford lariat truck in the fall of 2002 for $42,000.we still had it in the summer of 2007 when it suddenly stopped dead in the middle of the highway, stalled on a remote stretch of road. My husband was alone at the time, and he was about 8 miles from any house or store, so he walked for help at 8:30 pm.he was able to get a tow truck to pick him up, bring him home at 1 am, and deliver the truck to the nearest ford dealer.the cost of the tow was over $300.00.the next day he was unable to get to work due to no vehicle.we contacted the dealer and it took them the entire day to contact us back.they had no diagnosis, but suspected it had to do with a lockout device which would require the valve covers be removed and around $700.00 in service costs.they did charge us a diagnostic fee which was around $80.00 - $90.00. I had looked on the internet and kept finding references to a camshaft positioning sensor with the same symptom of sudden stalling.i asked the service technician if that could be the problem and he said it was very unlikely; in fact i think he claimed he was unaware of a cps issue at all.the truck was running so we picked it up from the dealership, and it stalled again on our way home.so we had the truck towed to another dealer, a distance of 80 miles and a cost of another $150.00. I discussed replacing the cps with the service technician there and he said it was relatively inexpensive and a good first attempt to isolate the problem.so we had it replaced and have never had a problem since. This truck had 40,000 miles on it and it was our fourth ford truck. I wonder why it took so long for ford to get around to notifying their customers and their service staff. It is inconceivable that ford would take this long to actually acknowledge a problem they have had for years when their customers were essentially unaware of the potential for disaster.

With truck in park i would start engine and truck would instantly go to 5,000 rpm by itself and stay there.i could turn ignition off pull out key and truck would run by itself for 10-30 second and then die. I would hate for this to happen to someone on the highway and not be able to turn truck off.

I have a 2002 for f350 superduty, i first had a spark plug blow out almost a year ago on cylinder 1 it was a loud pop then fluttering sound with reduced power, a smell like burning oil- gas, i was going down the high way when it happened & was unable to stop immediately, but when i did go under the hood the spark plug was jammed under the fuel line for the injectors & i still smelled a faint oder of gas, the coil was arching on the metal tubing above the spark plug.i figured it was the fault of my mechanic when he replaced the spark plugs, one year earlier, maybe he striped the thing or something. I fixed the problem with a heli coil everything was fine for a few months then it happened again with the same plug i again fixed it making sure to tighten the plug down good, three months later the same thing so i again fixed it each time having to purchase a new coil. Now year after the first incident 2 years since the plugs were installed, cylinder 2 just blew out a plug and destroyed its coil, so i began to think theres something going on here, somethings wrong!, & looked on line for the answer. There are hundreds of complaints, and no one is doing anything about it! this is the fourth time in a year this has happened! & i'm fed up! i have the spark plug & coil from this last.i believe this is a hazard, with gas being fed to the cylinder and the coil arching on the metal around it, its only a matter of time before a truck explodes, or has an accident & someone dies!

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350 superduty. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall intermittently and when that failure occurred, he would notice smoke coming from the engine. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current mileage was 164,000 and the failure mileage was 160,000.

Truck was losing power- then oil began to leak- oil leak became worse. Took to mechanic. Needed to replace o ring and turbo!!

Vehicle keeps cutting out.engine splutters and jerks, all the lights blink on the dash board, and engine quits. It has let me standed in traffic five or six times.it can happen just going down the road or when you are pulling out from a stop, there is never any warning.in 7 miles i had to restart my vehicle 5 times.it started in november 2007.i thought there may be moisture in the fuel filter, so had all filters changed and truck put on computer.dealer could not find a problem.the problem has steadly gotten worse; from once or twice a week to five or six times in less than 10 miles.i can no longer rely on my vehicle getting me where i need to go.

On more than one occasion ford 4.6l 5.4l engines have had a spark plug literally come out of the engine block while driving. This instantly makes the vehicle a gross emissions polluter. The vehicle is unsafe to drive, considering the potential for fire.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350 sd. The contact stated that the cam shaft sensor has failed three times after being replaced. The engine remained idle but there was no power and the vehicle failed to move forward. After the sensor was replaced the vehicle functioned normally for at least seven months. The dealer stated that they were not going to replace the sensor again since they are not sure what should be repaired. The dealer also stated that because the sensor had to be replaced so many times, it may not have caused the failure to occur. The failure mileage was 100,000 the current mileage is 250,000.

My 20002 ford f-350 v10 pickup truck blew out a spark plug.the first timei thought nothing of it, i replaced it and the coil for $120.00. Two days later it blew out again this time while i was traveling on a main road, the truck died in the street from 40 mph to zero in no time at all. I was almost rear ended my a very large 18 wheeler carrying a large excavating machine . Luckily he had room to pass me on my left ,before any damaged was done.after some research i have found out that fordhas known about this problem for years. There has been thousands of people have their spark plugs blown out of the cylinder walls , due to faulty threadings in the cylinder wall.when will ford be held accountable for the expensive repair, when someone dies.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f-350 sd.the vehicle stalled four times in one day while in motion.the contact was able to restart the vehicle after each occurrence.no warning indicators were present.the manufacturer replaced a sensor a few months ago because the vehicle was stalling.the failure has returned.the current and failure mileages were 60,000.updated 07/06/07.

I have a 2002 ford f350 with triton v10 engine.on 07/27/06 the spark plug blew out causing lack of power to my vehicle and a damaged coil.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f-350 sd.while driving 5 mph, the contact heard a loud popping noise.there were no warning indicators present.the vehicle was pulled over and later driven to the dealer.the dealer stated that the spark plug became detached and the cylinder head for the passenger side needed to be replaced.the repairs were not made.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 56,000.

Cam position sensor failureand engine stalled, replaced parts at excessive price.

At 43,350 the spark plug blew out of the cylinder requiring the right head to be replaced.

2002 f350 diesel, i bought this vehicle new in august 2003 and have presently 93,000 miles. The oil pan to the motor has rusted through. I feel this item should last the life of the vehicle. I have been in touch with a couple of ford dealers and they both said this is a common problem with this truck. I was quoted $1600.00 to have this problem taken care of. There has been no recalls as of yet to take care of this.

Camshaft position sensor failed on my '02 ford f-350 power stoke diesel.

Motor died in middle of intersection.

Camshsft position sensor (cps) failed on my ford f-350, 2002 model, 7.3 liter diesel engine.the failure occurred gradually, with six unintended engine shutdowns.three shutdowns were at highway speeds, three while parked.date is approximated; odometer reading approximately 60000 miles.i will update when i get home.

2002 ford 350 developed problems with the braking system.*mrthe consumer stated even under moderate braking the front rotors warped which caused brake and handling problems.the brakes have been an ongoing problem.the belt tensioner and battery was replaced. The check engine light illuminated.

2002 ford f350 super duty quad cab le 7.3l diesel parked in my back yard with the engine block heater plugged in. I heard an explosion and looked out the window. My truck was burning from under the hood. The whole front end was on fire. The grill, bumper rubber, headlights and intercoolerburned away. When the fire department finally put it out you could see that all the rubber, plastic, wiring and batteries were completely burned away.

Defective cam position sensor caused vehicle to stall on freeway. Replaced cps.

Cps (camshaft position sensor) failure on 2002 ford superduty powerstroke.i noticed my engine cutting out slightly at times.then my cps failed leaving my vehicle dead at multiple traffic lights before i could finally change the part.

Truck would pickup every once in a while then finally i was getting off the interstate and it died.the cps had failed i put a new one in and it runs fine.

My vehicle is a 2002ford f-350 xlt 4x4 power stroke diesel...auto trans. The diesel engine unexpectedly shut down due to a defective" synchronizer " ( cam position sensor or " cps" )while towing a heavy boat & trailer ( 9,800 lbs ), the engine suddenly and unexpectedly shut off for no apparent reason. When this happens there is no power steering or brakes. This makes the truck hard to steer and stop, and is a very dangerous condition, especially while towing a trailer.the first time it happened, i narrowly missed hitting a telephone pole, as i did notknow the engine had died until i continued to steer the vehicle around a slight corner and it would not turn until i exerted heavy effort on the steering wheel.( no power steering when the engine dies) a woman would never be able to steerthis vehiclewhen this occurs.i then tried to stop the truck, and with the engine stalled ,there was no power brakes either. With heavy towing weight, this is also extremely dangerous.there was no accident or damage, but this is a dangerous condition. I found that it is common knowledge to ford dealers & powerstroke ownersthat these " cam sensors " fail often, resulting in the engineshutting off unexpectedly,or sometimes causing it not to startif the engine does not start , this is not a dangerous condition, however ifthe engine dies while towing a trailer, there is a good possibility of losing control due to the extreme effort required to stop and / or steer the truck whenthe engine shuts off. The part number for the replacement cam sensor is : f7tz-12k073-a. I have the old sensor available for inspection if ford wants it, but i am sure they are well aware of this problem with these trucks. There were no computer trouble codes stored when this happens.i have had 3 other ford powerstroke diesels and the " cam sensor " has failed on every one ofthem.ford needs to seriously look into this problem with these sensors.

2002 ford f-350, with 7.3l power stroke diesel .failure of the "cps".

The contact owns a 2002 ford f-350 sd.the contact stated that he received a recall notice for the engine and engine cooling: engine: diesel (nhtsa campaign id 07v553000).the manufacturer stated that they would not reimburse the cost to have the vehicle shippied to the dealer.the contact felt that the manufacturer should be responsible for shipping cost.the currrent mileage was 62,000 and there had been no failure to dateupdated 04-09-08

Vehicle stalled without warning and would not restart. Fortunately, failure happened just before i pulled out of a parking lot otherwise i would have been stuck lengthwise across road in the middle of a left turn.part that failed was the camshaft position sensor.don't know if i still have the original part.after part was replaced vehicle started without problem.

Driving my 2002 ford superduty f350, no warning, driving in traffic and truck died in a tunnel. Result was cam position sensor. Over $400 in parts, labor and towing bill.caused traffic to slow down and go around me.

I was driving my 2002 ford f-350 diesel when the engine suddenly shut down.there was a dump truck behind me which was forced off of the road in order to avoid hitting my vehicle.i was able to restart the vehicle only to have it stall again.after researching the problem i found that the cause was a faulty camshaft position sensor which, although it appeared to be a recurring problem on ford diesels ford has never notified me as such.when i contacted a dealer regarding the problem they said that there was nothing that they could do as the vehiclewas 6 months past the 100,000 miles5 year engine warranty , i am still under the 100,000 miles.i have had the truck in ford dealerships numerous times and have bever been notified by ford personnel as to the likleyhood that this part has known problems and could fail at anytime.i am thankful for the diligence of the truck driver behind me yesterday because had he not been so alert then incident could have ended in tradegy.

I have 63000 miles on my 2002 f350 super duty pick-up (7.3l diesel).my truck stalled 3 times while driving, once while turning across traffic.the fault codes indicated an intermittent camshaft position sensor.i replaced the sensor myself, and the problem has been corrected.i have the old sensor available. This is a known problem among ford truck owners.stalling while driving causes loss of power steering, loss of power brakes, and obvious stop in traffic.

I have a ford f-350 diesel that and i have experienced and extreme loss of fuel economy. I have gone from 15 mpgto 8mpg. Ford said that they cannot find any problems with the engine. The engine also overheats while puling a light trailer. The "wait to start light" also stays on. The dealer said they are aware of that problem.

2002 ford super duty - 7.3l powerstroke turbo diesel.started out with intermittent sputtering.would not start one time - dealer assured us it was just low on fuel.sat for a while and they added a couple gallons of fuel.it restarted ok.stalled a week or so later and turned on the check engine light.fortunately, we were not towing anything like we were with our other truck.still, it was very dangerous having a dual wheel truck die out on the road.scanned the code - camshaft position sensor failed - replaced.very common and dangerous problem on these trucks.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350 super duty.the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a safety recall repaired.at that time, the contact was informed that the vehicle needed to have an oil change.also, the oil pan needed to be changed because it was rusting and pitting.the cost to replace the oil pan on her diesel engine is $2,399.82.the contact stated that the rear universal had to be replaced at 27,770 miles and then had to be replaced a second time, in addition to the carrier bearings at 47,325 miles.the vehicle was under warranty the first time, but the contact paid for the repair the second time.the recall number was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 58,347.updated 02-04-08.the consumer stated replaced weatherstrip, replaced rear u joint, disc pads replace, and replaced broken console lid.updated 02/04/08

Loss of the cps sensor on my 02 ford f350.the sensor went out while i was traveling down i87.i was able to pull off the road but the failure left me stranded with no cell service in the middle of a northeaster on 4/16/07.

I was driving down the highway and my truck died going 55 mph and it is hard to steer and stop and f-350 when the motor is dead. The fix was replace the cam shaft position sensor. I know of three other friends the same thing happen to, luckily no one got hurt when there truck died going down the highway.

While driving heard a loud popping noise and truck began running rough and lost some power.pulled to side of highway, opened hood and saw that i lost #9 spark plug.was offered through ford to either replace the head for $3400.00 or replace entire motor for $6200.00.no other options.ford does not recommended heli-coil.when asked the dealer and ford representative what can be done to help offset this cost, they replied "nothing".

Fuel gauge shows empty when full. Vehicles are ambulances and fuel amounts are critical to patient care and destinations. This is occurring on all 4 of recently purchased ambulances. Ford says problem is due to filling while running but same problem occurs when shut down.

I have been stranded on two occasions with fuel flow problems.at highway speeds of 50mph to 65 mph the truck begins to bog down and loose speed.it is imperative that you attempt to get to the sholder becouse the trucks engine is starved for fuel and will compleatly stall if you attempt to continue.i was stranded on the lie limped truck to the cross island parkway, limped over throgs neck bridge, choked and stalled on the cross bronx, finally towed from harlem back to nj at 4am.on the second occasion i had already gone to significant expense in the attempt to mitigate the problem but the same fuel flow interuption occured again requiring the truck to be towed.i had changed the fuel filter on the road with no improvements.so i did some research and paid to have the tank to my 2002 ford f350 7.3 liter turbo diesel drained and dropped.the lift pump was pulled and large quantity of a stringy silver matalic chips were cloging the corse screen. The pump was opened and the two interior torpedo shaped screens were compleatly coated in silver chip residue.the tank was emptied, flushed, cleaned and wiped down.all filters soaked and sprayed with compressed air.everything reasembled, reinstall tank, pump fuel.this complete cleaning of the matalic debris delaminating off the inside of the tank made the truck usable for about 800 miles and then the exact same problem occured.towed a second time.drain drop tank, find renu provider.take a day off work drive to swap old tank for replacement with the renu coating baked in.clean lift pump reinstall tank, transfer fuel, replace filter, hope new tank lasts and injectors have not been effected.what a hastle.lost work lost time and $3,500 in expenses so far.i do have my old fuel tank.a friend had an f350 tank that would have worked but it had a similar problem.i swapped his tank with the renu man and kept my original as exibit a.i feel a recall is warented and i need the $3,500 back.

Loss of power motor to gas pedal, will not work when driving.

Loss of power motor to gas pedal, will not work when driving.

2002 ford f-350, 7.3 ltr diesel displayed loss of power and severe shaking at lower rpm's with a check engine light. Took to ford dealer and was told it was a delaminate problem inside the fuel tank and i was told that this would cost in excess of $2800 to repair. This is a serious safety problem on the highway as i could only maintain 25 mph ( highway minimum is 45 mph) in an attempt to find a safe place to pull over. Once the vehicle was shut down for a short time the problem resolved itself and i was able to continue on only to have the problem reoccur several miles later. I noticed that this problem basically occurs when under load and when extra throttle is needed.

My ford f350 powerstroke diesel truck began having problems in march 2008.there was loss of power, hesitation and stalling.fuel filter was replaced twice and fuel pump was replaced. Fuel pump still screams like it is starving for fuel when this problem occurs.the truck lets out thick white smoke before it stalls.i just recently looked in tank and noticed silver flakes clogged in sending unit which i believe is delamination of interior of tank as others have described.i have cleaned it out twice now in 2 weeks.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f-350. The contact stated rust in the fuel tank built up causing her vehicle to continue accelerating after it came to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and the failure was diagnosed as delamanination of the fuel tank. The vehicle was repaired; however, the repair was temporary. The failure continued to occur. The vin and mileage were unknown.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350 sd. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle began to lose power. The contact shut off the vehicle and restarted. After driving a very short distance, the vehicle would not accelerate past 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel pump, filters, fuel tank and eight fuel injectors would need to be replaced because the fuel tank was rusted. The contact repaired the vehicle himself. The manufacturer advised the failure occurred because the contact failed to keep the fuel tank full. The failure mileage was 39,246 and the current mileage was approximately 50,102.

Accelerator pedal just quit working, both on take off and steady mph going down the road. This time it quit just after taking off from a red light and a mini van rearended us. Had to have a wrecker lift the mini van off our trailer hitch. No damage to us but plenty to the mini van.i had a sore lower back for almost a week!! he did not want a police report as he did not have insurance.we have had this vehicle to dimension west ford in fort wayne 5 times, for well over 3 weeks of down time with no fix insight. It is an ongoing problem that hasturned into a safety issue. My wife is afraid to drive the truck. Service manager will not return my phone calls. I will take it back in next week and let them try one more time before we try other venues.ea04006

I have a 2002 f350 super duty diesel truck.several times (6-8 times) this vehicle has spontaneously moved from park to reverse.so far no injuries or damage to vehicle has occurred as a result of this failure.a co-worker of mine has reported the same problem with his 2004 ford f250 superduty diesel truck.

2002 ford super duty powerstroke diesels with 4 wheel drive. The 4 wheel drive system on these trucks is called, "electonic shift on the fly" ... There is a dash mounted knob on the dash. The nob has written, "4x2"-4x4 and 4x4 lo". This past snow storm in northern nevada had chains or snow tire restrictions. So, on my way to work i turned the dash knob from 4x2 to "4x4. The 4x4 system light on the dash lit up and the truck went into 4 wheel drive. Shortly after driving and proceeding from a "stop sign" the rear tires started to spin, nothing from the front tires!! the dash light still showed 4x4 mode.. I pulled to the side of the road and turned the knob from 4x4 to 4x2 and then back to 4x4. Again the 4 wheel drive system worked.. Upon climbing up a slight hill the rear tires started sliding causing the back of the truck to "fishtail". Again, without warning the truck left it's 4 wheel drive mode and went back into 2 wheel drive..this is extremly dangerous!!!!the truck unlike a 4x4 system that just does not work or quits working, tells the driver it is in 4x4, but without warning, goes back into 4x2 mode. This defect can cause property damage, an accident or even death!!! please look into this matter!!! all owners of this setup, which involves model years 1999, to 2004 should be advised by ford and to repair permantly the flaw..if you need further information, please check www.the diesel stop.com.. This is an internet web site dedicated to the owners of ford diesel pickup trucks..many owners of the 99 to 04s with 4x4s are having problems with this system..we are looking foward to your assistance.. Thanks.. Dan bolduc.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 40mph, there was a vibration from the rear suspension followed by a noise from the driveline.the vehicle was seen by an independent repair shop.the mechanic replaced the rear universal joint, but the problem persisted.the vehicle was returned to the repair shop for further inspection.the mechanic determined the universal joint needed to be replaced again.

The short end of my driver side seat belt broke.

The front passenger seat buckle releases unexpectedly. When i began to research how to replace this component, i discovered that there was an nhtsa recall#01v227001, ford recall# 01s21 issued for the same hazard. My truck was assembled in 2001 at the kentucky plant but when i contacted ford they explained that my truck was not included in the recall. Since this is such a safety hazard, i am reporting to you so that you may consider expanding the scope of this recall. Also, what are the identifying marks to determine if i do indeed have the faulty components in my vehicle? the buckles are trw 33012760, the drivers side is embossed with #343013 and the passenger side is embossed #321013.

We have a 2000 ford f350 vehicle that was recently in an accident and the body shop found that it had prior damage.it is iowa law that the dealer must ask the previous owner about any prior damage and when we purchased this truck from mid states ford in des moines/waukee, iowa they did not notify us of any prior damage.the prior damage make the vehicle unsafe to drive as it has the wrong cab on it and the wrong cab has been welded on, as you can see the welding marks underneath the truck, and also the seat belts have been bolted in and not drilled in, but their are many drilled holes in the bottom of the truck cab.the body shop feels that the truck is unsafe to drive as you never know when the welding could collapse.we have pictures of the previous damage along with two witnesses.we have notified mid states ford and also ford motor company with a long list of things that have happen since june 9th, 2003.mid states ford has not contacted us since dennis contacted then on july 8th and they said they would get right back to us.ford motor company has not called us back since our last note to them last week.we just want some answers before something else happens.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350 diesel engine vehicle. He stated that the rear brakes would not lock but would stick while braking at 40 mph. He also stated that the vehicle would feel as if it were pulling from side to side. The dealer replaced the rear and frontal disc brakes. The contact made repairs to the rear caliper. He also felt that the brake line may have been the cause of the failure. To date, the failure persists. The failure and current mileages were under 64,000.updated 4/28/10 updated 05/06/10.

This complaint involves 2 ford f350 super duty trucks.one was a 1999 and the other is my present 2002.both vehicles showed signs of defective rotors....probably warping.the 1999 needed to have the rotors turned at approximately 19,000 miles.i traded that truck in for my present 2002 f350 super duty.surprise.....surprise this vehicle has recently turned 20,000 miles and the rotors are now warped. Yippie!!!! i believe this monday june 23 the rotors will be unceremoniously turned.perhaps ford should address this problem before someone suffers an injury or a fatality.*nlm

2002 ford 350 developed problems with the braking system.*mrthe consumer stated even under moderate braking the front rotors warped which caused brake and handling problems.the brakes have been an ongoing problem.the belt tensioner and battery was replaced. The check engine light illuminated.

Read bottom to get safety concern:called ford this morning, and verbally informed them of the problem with the rotors on my f350, and they said that they would call back the next day.received a call in 2 hours and was informed that the only thing that ford can do is resurface warped rotors unless the rotors do not meet ford??s specification.i am sure that the only specification is on thickness, and i am sure that since the pads still have 10mm the rotors are going to be thick enough to be turned or resurfaced.when the surface of the rotor is resurfaced a layer of the metal is shaved off leaving less metal on the rotor, put a different way thinner rotor walls.the thinner the rotor wall, the faster the rotor will heat up, and heat causes the defective rotors to warp.if defective rotors are turned they will warp again, and they will warp in less severe conditions than the first time when they were thicker.the operator on the phone was not technical and the discussion went on deaf ears.i also told the operator that this defect is a safety concern due to the fact that if i am going down a hill and have to put on my brakes and hit a slick area in the road, there is a much greater possibility of losing control of the vehicle than if the brakes were functioning properly.this fact combined with the fact that turned rotors would warp at a greater rate and more quickly, leads me to believe that ford is encouraging the dealers to place potentially hazardous, defective vehicles on the road.my f350 has 21500 miles, and is under warranty.i have researched the problem and found that ford has done this to a lot of super duty trucks and they are all out on the road with defective brakes.4/8/03 sent the document to ford with updates. *nlm

I hit a bump with a 2002 ford f-350 you could barely keep the truck on the road, darting back and forth, very dangerous had to pull over several times till it straight out this has happen a few times.i have seen many complaint about this ford should do something before someone gets killed.

The tie rod end at the pitman arm sheared off suddenly at the point where the ball meets the shaft of the tie rod causing a complete loss of steering control. This is not a wear point and is not something that could have been inspected since it is covered with a rubber boot, the steel looks as if it fatigued over time leading to the sudden failure. Luckily this occurred in a parking lot, had it happened on the highway someone else would have possibly been writing this.

While driving the 2002 f350 super duty pick-up truck we purchased on 7/15/05, with only 26,000 miles on it, the throttle quits working. The engine stays running, so we do not loose the power steering etc, but when turning left it went out & we could not get out of the way of the oncoming traffic. Thank goodness the cars were going slow enough that they could stop. It happened 7/24/5, 5 times in 1 hr. We contacted the ford dealer & they said we were out of luck. To put it on the computer they wanted to charge us $90.00. We only had the vehicle 9 days & they will not do anything about it. To us it is safety related & should be addressed by the mullinax ford dealership in amherst, oh

Our 2002 f-350 cruise control engaged itself and went to full throttle while we were stopped.a four car fender bender was the result.had this happened at higher speed, it could have been considerably more serious.the cruise control took over control of the vehicle!!

Periodically, when setting the cruise control at different speeds, it won't immediately engage, which means that there is a loss of speed of around 5 mph. Then it will engage, kick down a gear, and accelerate super quick. Scary if you are not prepared.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350sd . While driving approximately 50 mph up a hill, the vehicle would perform as if it were in neutral.the contact would press on the acceleratorpedal and the vehicle would not accelerate.when the vehiclefinally reached the top of thehill and is on a flat surface, the acceleratorwill engage . The dealer had been contacted and they stated they would haveto diagnose the vehicle . The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 170000 and the current mileage was 175000.

Dt*:the contact stated while applying pressure to the accelerator pedal at low speeds the vehicle accelerates.although the dealer was alerted no appointment for inspection was made.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f350 super duty.while driving at any speed, the vehicle speed control will activate on its own.the only way to deactivate the cruise control is to stand on the brake pedal and press the off switch.the failure occurred intermittently, which almost caused a crash.the contact's wife has been able to shut off the cruise control before crashing into anyone.the dealer attempted to repair the failure, but was unsuccessful.the vehicle has been to the dealer on approximately six occasions, but there is no remedy.the failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 70,000.
