Driving on a straight, rural road in heavy fog.right tire caught the soft shoulder, vehicle went off the road and into a steep-banked creek approximately 8 ft wide.front of truck hit hard on the opposite bank and back end of truck landed in the creek.airbag did not deploy.driver sustained bruising, abrasions and mild soft tissue injuries to neck, shoulder, chest, and knee.this is eerily similar to nhtsa id number: 10113989.

Air bags did not deploy . I was driving around 30 to 35 miles an hr.when i hit ice on the road and lost control of the vehicle. The truck went down in a old canal and hit head on in a bank .the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was a ford f350 super duty crew cab dually.year 2001.

Cps- cam position sensor failures. 2001 f350 7.3 powerstroke. While driving thru a construction zone on i-40 westbound, truck just died. Luckily i was able to get off the road with out being run over by extremely heavy traffic. Truck was towed to ford dealer and the technician said truck died to cps failure. 02/2005. Cps failure again,04/18/2007but thank god this time it was in the intel parking lot.i had truck towed home. 107 dollars for cps. Replaced cps and truck is once again running fine. Ford corporation is fully aware of this problem with this sensor and will do nothing about it. This is a extremely dangerous problem that could have ended tragically for me.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f350 super duty.while driving 35 mph, the engine stalled and the vehicle lost all electrical power.the vehicle became extremely difficult to stop and steer.the failure resulted in a near crash.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure.nhtsa initiated an investigation (nhtsa action number pe06011).the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 100,000.

2001 ford f350 sd 7.3 diesel automatic trans. Fuse keeps blowing when manually gearing down to second, sometimes all on its own. When this happens, the engine goes to idle, the throttle doesn't respond, the gauges go dead i'm dead in the water. Sense i can't push the truck, i have to get out and replace the fuse where it sets to get going again. Now my overdrive lock out is inoperative. My main concern is that the truck just stops moving, when the fuse blows right in the middle of a intersection! so how's that for a safety hazard? can anyone spell lawsuit?

Spark plug blow out on my 01 ford f-350 v-10. Loss of power un drivable.the truck only has 35k miles. I called coley ford to get info, they told me to call ford customer care to se if they can help with the expensive costs! i was basically told to bad cant help, & it only had 35k miles at the time it happened but was almost 4 yrs after time of purchase.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-350 diesel. The contact stated that after having the vehicle stored in a garage for 11 months he observed that it was engulfed in flames. The manufacturer was contacted and replied in a letter advising him that a recall notice 09v399000 (vehicle speed control) was mailed in november 2010; however, the contact never received the letter. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was approximately 135,000.

Truck began stalling out completely while driving after having cps replaced on a recall notice. Truck will run about 20 minutes and shut off while driving. After 15-20 mins, truck will restart. Occurs every 20-30 minutes while driving.2 cps have been replaced by dealership, 3 fuel filters replaced, all oil and filter changes up to date. Only receipts for parts available, no actual parts.

Electronic problem, causing the vehicle to stall, it stall on the freeway causing a collison betweeen my vehicle and a semi, semi sideswiped my vehicle tearing off the driver's side mirror.

2001 f-350 sd pick up was on fire 5-6 hours after i got home and shut it off.

I received a "recall" notice from ford about my f350 truck, the recall is not listed on your web site???? last time i received a "recall" from ford i took my truck to the local dealer and they left all four battery connections loose which ruined my alternator, they denied having touched the battery connections yet their own service report had a check mark next to "battery connections inspected" now they sent me this recall about a speed control sensor and when i called the number provided they basically told me i have no recourse if the local dealer damages my truck again, and if i do not bring the truck in ford is not responsible for my injury or any loss associated with the "recall" help please!

Cps failure.shuts truck down.brakes are boosted via power steering.resulting in loss of brakes.

After the fact heads up regarding potentially catastrophic power loss. At about 10 years and 100,000 miles the vehicle started blowing the #19 5amp fuse, dashboard lights go out but the dangerous consequence is a loss of power, can't clear traffic in a left turn or go up hill, have to back down. Known problem online, some people just replace the fuse with a 10amp, the cause is a wire in the steering column was through it's insulation and shorts. Mine happened more frequently always after turning left. Ford service ignored the online info and told me i needed a new $700 fuel pump. That did not help and i demanded they open the steering column and fix the wire, no problems since, i am assuming this has never been reported since i had to google for the answer. I was lucky an never got hit by any oncoming or following traffic, particularly thrilling to back down a narrow steep street with limited visibility.

The cps on my f-350 ford has gone out now two different times.this is a part that shouldn't be failing all the time.both times i was towing trailers and had a hard time getting the truck to stop when the engine turned off.

(1) on 13 dec 06 truck (approximately 57000 miles on vehicle) quit running on main artery, no leading symptoms(2) had truck serviced at black forest auto center (local) and replace cps- cam positioning sensor(3) truck runs fine...this is the second.

I have a 2001 ford f-350 with the 7.3 diesel motor. I have replaced the cam sensor in it twice and there are many people on the internet upset about this. When the cam sensor fail the truck shuts down which causes loss of power steering, power brakes, and all control of the truck and there is no way to tell when it is going to fail. For has no recalls on this sensor and has had many problems with it and nothing is being done. If this problem is not fixed then its is going to kill someone if it hasn't already.i tow a 3-car hauler with this truck, it's really dangerous when the engine shut down with no warning.sometimes the engine may be restarted and other time i had to wait 45 minutes.

My f-350 super duty diesel suddenly shut down while driving during rush hour without any warning, losing total power: power steering and brakes.not being able to move it due to traffic and since it wouldn't start police were notified so that an accident would not occur.eventually it was towed to a near by parking lot and then towed directly to the dealer where they notified me that my cam sensor was bad and needed to be replaced.not thinking much of it a few days later someone told me that they are known for going bad and i had better keep one in my glove box as a spare or i might find myself stranded again. This concerns me since my wife sometimes drives it and we have 3 children, not to mention that it cost me $420.00.

Consumer states that intermittently the ignition switch binds/sticks and will not turn to the lock position, it is difficult to remove the key. Dealer replaced ignition key and switch.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f350 super duty.the contact noticed smoke rising from the hood while the vehicle was idling.he opened the hood and noticed flames coming from the wiring harness.the dealer stated that the speed control sensor may have caused the fire.his vin was not included in recall number 06v286000 for the vehicle speed control because his vehicle has a diesel engine.the vin was unavailable.the failure mileage was 189,000 and current mileage was 193,000.

2001 ford f-350 caught fire while parked. Authorities called the fire department to come extinguish the fire.the consumer stated he previously had some wiring repairs made to the fuse box going to the rear lights, because the wiring had melted. (ohio traffic crash report # 10-0110-50)sent in additional voq. Updated 04/14/08.the consumer also stated the front wheel bearing had failed prior to the fire.

2001 ford f-350. Engine stalling, hesitation. Advised problem was cps failure, common problem on ford powerstroke diesels. After many stalls, old cps was replaced, was advised that cps failure can happen often, even with a new unit. Old cps is available.no accident has occurred yet but i'm concerned that another cps failure could be catastrophic.

Ford f350 super duty xlt lariat 7.3l powerstroke diesel 2001 modelmy truck has a factory installed engine block heater, which i have to use to get it to start on cold mornings. At 7:15am, i was talking to my wife on our cordless phone & it went dead.after some searching, i found out that the circuit breaker had tripped.this circuit breaker powers the wall the phone base station was plugged into, and that wall is shared with the garage.after some more searching, i could not locate the short that caused the trip and i reset the breaker.it tripped again.i had to take my daughter to school, so i figured i would wait and look some more when i came home.i opened my garage door to find my truck on fire.the plug for the engine block heater had shorted out, melted & caught fire....this caught my truck on fire.the back side of the plug had melted and the wire had burned and become disconnected.no other part of the wire was damaged....only the plug.i called ford, and they said that it was not part of a recall & the could do nothing for me.my concern is that, other than feeling a little "put out" at the situation & how i was treated by ford, what if i had pulled my truck as far forward as i usually do.....there is an ornamental pine tree at the corner of my house......and the flaming molten plastic from my truck had dripped on the pine needles & caught the pine tree on fire........this would have engaged my home. And, what if it had happened at night & i had not put it out right away.i don't want this to happen to someone else.by the way, the plug on my engine block heater has always been warm to the touch when plugged in.i have never had a diesel before & assumed this was normal due to the amount of electrical current that the heater pulled, and the mechanic said this was true.my new engine block heater works just fine & the plug is not warm to the touch.obviously, it was defective from the time i bought it.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle stalled at various speeds without warning.the vehicle restarted and was taken to the dealership who was unable to duplicate the problem.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 20 mph the vehicle engine failed without warning.the vehicle was towed to dealer; upon inspection the cam shaft sensor was replaced.the manufacturer was alerted.

2001 ford f350 caught on fire unattended in the driveway.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f350 super duty.when the vehicle was started the spark plug popped out.the vehicle was not inspected by the dealer.the vin, cylinders and engine size were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 82,000.

Consumer complained about an engine block heater problem.the block heater cord caught on fire, burning the entire engine department. Also, it caught the fifth wheel trailer which the truck was parked underneath. *tc

I have a 2001 f-350 super duty with 58,000 miles. Approximately 3 weeks ago i noticed a 2-3 in oil leak under the truck. As i investigated the problem more it was noted the the oil was leaking down the back of the motor coming from the top of the motor. I traced the leak to the valley of the motor where i found a pooling of oil. I cleaned the oil up in order to try and trace where the leak was coming from. It was found to be pooling in a couple of places, around the h.p.o.p and the turbo pedistal, once the valley fills with oil it trickles down the back of the motor.since the truck is still under it's 100,000 mile warranty i dropped the truck off january 9,2004 for an early am january 10,2004 appt. By 10am i received a phone call stating the truck was "fixed" and ready for pick-up. They said the problem was the o-rings in the h.p.o.p and they were replaced.when i picked the truck up the afternoon of the 10th and got it home i looked in the valley of the engine and found it was still full of oil. I then proceed to clean up the excess oil and see if it was leaking anymore.i'm not sure how the dealer was able to tell it wasn't leaking anymore when they left all of that oil sitting there, but i took there word.on january 11,2003 i drove the truck 35 miles and checked the top of the engine again, and low and behold there was oil pooling in the valley again. Since january 11,2003 was a saturday i was only able to contact voicemail at the dealership. I am now awaiting a phone call monday morning from the dealership as well as researching the magnuson-moss warranty act for my own protection.ford is well aware of this problem and still chooses to do nothing about the problem.i am also well aware of many other people with the same problem and will encourage them to fill this complaint form out.

Dt:while drivingonthe highway vehicle completely shut downbecause cam shaft sensor failed. Cam shaftsensor wore out before all the other thingsbecame defective and it killedthe engine. Contacted ford, they said this did happen, andthe only thing they do wasreplace the sensor.

I parked my truck, turned off the ignition and removed the key at 7:00am.at 8:03 am i heard what sounded like an explosion.i ran to the front of the house and my 2001 ford f350 was on fire!the entire engine area was engulfed in flames.using two garden hoses until the fire department arrived, i was able to contain the majority of the damage to the engine area.there weren't any prior issues to signify thatthere was something wrong with the engine. I routinely brought my vehicle in for it's scheduled maintenance.i never received a recall notice about the defective cruise control switch that was installed in a group of ford trucks, of which my truck was part of.

Oil pan rusting from inside to outside.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f350 super duty.while driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning.the contact was able to restart the vehicle, however, it shut off again two hours later.the mechanic stated that the cam sensor caused the failure.the contact replaced the cam sensor and there had not been any further occurrences.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 62,000. * updated 12/12/07 the consumer stated purchased a new cam sensor part # f7tz-12k073-b. 1.)ford f-350 parked in the morning at 8:04 am after taking daughter to school.after sitting for almost 15 hours truck caught on fire and burned to the ground at approx. 11:00pm. At night, after everybody was suppose to be in bed. I happened to hear a popping and hissing noise and saw flames glowing from under the engine between the tires.huge oak tree near it was caught on fire, burnt appx. 35 feet into the air, other vehicle next to it were damagedand house was in danger of being caught on fire per fire dept. ( they hosed the house down first)2.) only happened once. 3.)fire dept called to put out raging fire.

My 2001 ford f3505.4 engine while driving blew a spark plug out of the cylinder head and caused a small fire under the hood of the truck. I was able to put out because i happened to have a small fire extinguisher on board.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-350. The vehicle was parked in a driveway when it suddenly caught fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and a fire report was available. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact called the dealership to explain the failure but the dealer stated that they were unaware of any such failures. The contact planned to call the manufacturer when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 231,000.

Engine failure in december of 2003 ford covered motor under warranty.transmission failure in feb of 2004. My truck has 37,700 miles on it and ford offered to pay for parts but not labor. I was told i should have bought the extended warranty, which tells me ford only stands behind their vehicles for 36,000 miles. I am very dissapointed.i have found many other ford vehicles same make, model and year with transmission failure. I do not feel i should have to pay for any of the repairs. My vehicle is is stilll under the 3 years and just over the mileage.

The oil pans on most late model ford 7.3 liter power stroke diesels has a severe problem with the oil pans rusting through, causing massive oil leaks, possible fire hazards, and severe engine failure, if the problem is not caught in time. The cost to have this repaired is close to two thousand dollars, and this problem is extremely well documented among owners of vehicles equipped with this engine. Ford has done nothing to correct this problem, no recalls, no tsb's, nothing. A new oem oil pan from ford is close to $400 dollars, an aftermarket close to $100. The way to rectify this problem is to remove the entire engine from the vehicle, a job requiring extensive training and skill, as well as extremely expensive equipment. (in order to do the job properly, and safely). It is the personal opinion of my personal ase certified automotive technician, as well as any person i have spoken with in regards to this matter that the only fair thing to do would be for ford to acknowledge and correct this issue, at no cost to the vehicle owner.

V-10 triton. I started hearing a ticking noise coming from the engine about 2 weeks ago.i had taken it to shop for unrelated work and they did not think it unusual. On 1/8/09, i heard a loud pop and then it started to sound like an exhaust leak coming from the engine. As the engine seemed to otherwise run ok, i drove it to a ford dealer in snohomish where they diagnosed the problem as a spark plug ejected from the #4 cylinder. The plugs have never been changed, originally installed at the factory.

Spark plug blew off ford f-350.

(1) on 13 dec 06 truck (approximately 57000 miles on vehicle) quit running on main artery, no leading symptoms(2) had truck serviced at black forest auto center (local) and replace cps- cam positioning sensor(3) truck runs fine...this is the second.

High pressure oil pump spraying oil all over the road until vehicle quit running. First time was around 10,000 miles- they put and o-ring in this time and with in another 10,000 miles it did it again- this time they replaced the pump and it lasted until vehicle had 36,000 miles and it did it again - they replaced the o-rings again and this time it made it till it had 68,000 miles and it dumped about 15 quarts of oil on the road again. This time the oil pump blew apart. This is 4 times this vehicle has done the same thing. This oil pump is what makes the fuel go to the cylinders and keeping the engine running, no oil pressure and the engine shuts down in the middle of the road without warning. I have mechanized for 20 years with ups andhave a knowledge of engines and how they work. The issue with this vehicle is that it dumps or sprays oil all over the road and all under the vehicle which could cause the vehicle itself or someone following to wreck in the oil , or someone run into the back of the vehicle when it quits. Four times with the same problem and ford would not help with the cost of repairs the last time. This is a pre-existing problem that never has been fixed the first time in the shop. This high pressure oil pump is what makes the fuel injectors operate. No oil pressure and the injectors will not operate and the engine quits without warning. I have had the oil all under the vehicle and all over the rear tires. I also mentioned to the dealer after the 3rd time that if a motorcycle got behind me that he would have problems controlling his ride. I caught the pump leaking before it quit that one time. Four times with 68,000 miles is not a safe record with putting about 3 gallons of oil on the road each time this happens.also consider the environmental effects of dumping oil everywhere.

The cps on the vehicle failed three times. Two of the three failures left me stranded for over two hours while waiting for ford roadside assistance to recover the vehicle. The frequency of the problem has caused me to now carry a spare cps in my glovebox in the event of a future failure.

The cps on my f-350 ford has gone out now two different times.this is a part that shouldn't be failing all the time.both times i was towing trailers and had a hard time getting the truck to stop when the engine turned off.

Ford power stroke diesel cam position sensor failure leading to loss of steering, brakes and control of vehicle. Sensor can fail without warning at any time and leave vehicle inoperable in travel portions of highway.i was towing 9,500 lb at that time.the trailer brakes saved the day.i had a spare cam position sensor on hand and made the repair on the side of the highway.it's the third cam position sensor on the vehicle now.

This truck has had 4 transmissions, and a new motor along with many repairs.

I have several complaints with my truck....all of whichwere potential safety risk. First was the transmission failure mine and my dad's ,both failed at similar times at identicaltrucks. -after ford gave us the run around we tookthe trucks to arepair shop and had transmissions fixed.....note that the failure of the coast clutch in transmissions prevented the trucks from engine breaking. This was particularly serious when towing, which waswhat this truck was made for.my dad found out thetransmission failed on his way down a mountain pass in colorado pulling a11,000 pound fifth wheel. The next complaint was regarding the cam position sensor, which failedfaster thancan replaced. The next complaintwas about thebrake system. I have dealtwith dealerships time and time again to try to resolve the problem, and they couldn't do it, so i fixed it myself!the problem was a severe pull to the left when applying brakes, that progressed to a severe pull and shimmy. .again, ford couldn't fix it, i did.all of thesewere trend items. I highly recommend researching www.dieselstop.com and brians truck shop.either one of these sources can accurately reflect the failures in these parts on these trucks----the reason ford didn't get many complaints-----they cant/wont fix it until someone died.!

1.events - taking a trip from wasilla, ak to fairbanks, ak(300 mile trip) temp started at 28 deg at wasilla -47 in fairbanks. After about 150 miles the truck stutter a few times after about 200 miles the truck died. Would not start nothing. Waited for about 20 min (in -27deg weather) then the truck started up and i got about another 25 miles now it was about -32 someone pulled over to let my kids keep warm three girls ages 2, 4, 6and let me take warm up brakesin there car while i tried to find out what was failing. I had a code reader with me. It showed no codes. Then some guy pulled over he was driving a ford as well. But he carried a extra c.p.s. With him and the tools.2.failure and consequences- the failure was a cps in the 2001f-350 7.3the consequences were not that bad only because of 2 very nice people that helped me. But think about it --32 deg and gettint colder it could have been 4 deaths.replaced the cps from a guy that warned me to keep one in the glove box at all times.

My ford f-350 diesel just had the cam position sensor go out for the third time! iwasheading down hilland lost power steering and partial brakes.iwas towing a small trailer that had electric brakes and usedthoseto stopus or weprobably would have alldied.almost all the diesel owners i know have had these cps's go bad. Howcan ford get away with this? imafraid to drive the truck again. See also 10191279. *dsy

My cam position sensor on the dieselengine wentbad forthe thirdtime. Mileage is 90,000. Last time ilost steering andbrakes whilepulling a trailer and was almost rear ended by cars coming onto the freeway on ramp. This timeit was going down a hilland i gained speedand almost lost the truckover a cornerbefore coming toaflat area. Imafraidto drivethis truck now and its not fair considering what i paidfor it. Almost every diesel owner i knowhas had at least onecps failure. Icame to rest upagainst some tree limbsandhave scratched paint---it could have been much worse. See also 10153677. *dsy.

2001 ford f350 super duty 7.3 diesel truck. Engine stalls with out warning, resulting in lost of steering, and braking control. Occurs frequently.

Cps failure on a ford diesel.

Dt:the vehicle is a 2001 ford f350 super duty sld.the transmission failed.the consumer had been experiencing problems for about a month and gradually it became worse.the transmission was the only know problem with the vehicle.when the consumer took the vehicle to thedealership, they told him that it has slipping betweenandgear.the transmission was not fixed at that time.now it will not go into reverse and it is leaking oil.

I own a 2001 ford f-350 7.3 liter diesel truck. Last month i was pulling a trailer in heavy traffic when my engine died. I lost brakes and steering. It was all i could doto fight the wheel over to the right and i used my electric trailer brakes to pull me down. We were almost hit by many cars. After being towed, we found that it was a bad cam position sensor, or cps.i have since spoken to other fordowners and many of them have had similar experiences. This is scary! i am now afraid to drive the truck, especially to pull a load. What can bedone? thanks.see also 10191279. *dsy

Without warning the engine, while running, will blow a spark plug out of the cylinder head.after the spark plug is blown out of the head the truck is not drivable.this is the second time that the truck has done this.without extended insurance the cost would have been approx. $5,000 vs. $100 deductible.

Spark plug blown out from threaded position in engine head while enginerunning due to product defect.spark plug and spark coil pack left "floating" in engine compartment creates a very dangerous engine compartment firecondition as vacated and open spark plug hole being injected with combustible(gas) is susceptible to engine compartment and spark plug coil pack still producing spark.when ford was contacted contacted they indicated this was a known product defect and driving the vehicle was dangerous as a result. They indicated they are well aware of this situation and it's frequency of occurrence.there is a class action lawsuits pending in (ca.) on this very same issue.my vehicle was towed to dealership, ford autoserve, tilton nh 03276, for repair.repair costs were not covered by ford. Regional ford rep contacted for followup, but he never returned requested phone call to discuss safety concerns and repair costs. Ford repair invoice #[xxx]customer #[xxx]vehicle 2001 ford f350 super duty. V8vin[xxx].updated 07/11/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Spark plugs blew out?truck is now sitting at the ford dealership.i have only owned this truck for 8 months and have never heard of anything like this happening on any vehicle prior to this.

The turn signals on my ford f350 (2001) turn off at the slightest motion of the steering wheel. I had two ford service departments tell me that this is not serviceable. Especially dangerous when signals turn off while i am towing trailer and other drivers can not see around it.

We own a 2001 f350 super duty powerstroke diesel truck.the check engine light went on and off for a couple of days and then his truck would not start.it would crank but wouldn't fire.we had it towed to a local ford garage.they ran tests and determined it was the fuel injector module.the part was ordered on 8-11-08. To date it has not been received.the ford company said there is an expected release date of the part for 10-6-08.they said there has been such an abundance of order for that particular part that the ford manufacturer cannot make the part fast enough.my question is, is this a defect that ford should replace.i could understand maybe a week to get a part but if ford cannot make the part fast enough to cover all that's going bad that sounds like a problem. It should not take 2 months to get a part to replace on a vehicle.how can i find out if it might be a defect?

Truck stalled going downhill with a trailer on it almost went off road. In first gear and only going 10 mph or less. Has happen before. Always happens going downhill under low speeds. Truck is hard to stop and steer.

Vehicle: fordtype: f350 diesel 7.3l - 2001issue: the engine stalled and would not start. Cause of this could have been related to idm module (injector module) as from the ford diagostic sheet (code p1298); the issue has not been solved by the ford dealer, being blamed on low voltage batteries. The "dead" bateries were a cause of the idm module (engine would turn but no fuel injection present). At this moment the idm module was still not replaced, and ford still blames the batteries. This is a significant risk factor due to the fact tha t it may occur on a hwy., and a heavy truck like a f350 can not be stopped instantly. Also this may cause loss of steering and power brakes.

While on vacation in myrtle beach sc., my truck stopped in traffic causeing me to loose all systems ,power steering and braking. I took it to beach ford ,they replaced the cam shaft position sensor.luckily we avoided an accident.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-350 super duty. While reversing the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the fuel tank strap was fractured. O'brien ford (located at 720 mt eden rd, shelbyville, ky 40065) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 48,598. The vin was not available. Consumer stated truck was taken to the repair shop.

2001 ford f-350 super duty crew cab, diesel engine. The power door lock actuators don't work. Took to ford dealership and they stated that all 4 actuators need to be replaced. My vehicle only has 49, 971 miles, and this is very unsafe since if the door locks are locked and you hit the unlock button the doors won't open, then you have to reach for the manual lock button on each door to pull them up to get out of the vehicle. I was told that the super duty trucks are prone with this problem with electric door locks.

After many other problems with our f-350.transmission went after 78000 miles, ford says that installing a plow canceled the bumper to bumper warranty.

Ford 2001 f350 super heavy duty 7.3l, auto with overdrive, 2 wheel drive, crew cab.just purchased in february 2002 from ted britt ford in virginia.truck has 40,000 miles and transmission is failing!hearing from various auto mechanics this is extremely typical with this vehicle and no unnormal to have to replace 3 to 4 transmissions a week for same type of vehicle and problem.there must be a recall or service bulletin for this problem.$1,800.00 is a hefty amount of money to have to put into a relatively new truck with 40,000 miles.ford should have to pay for this defect.

Transmission wears out prematurely. The torque converter shutter is faulty which causes faulty shifting between gears. Consumer will hear a clanking noise. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer. Ford was aware of the problem with the transmission. Consumer was told you would belucky if you get 100,000 miles out of this transmission.

Dt:consumer states 2001 ford f350 has a transmission problem.the transmission will not shift into overdriveand became stuck between third and fourth gear when going between 60-65 mph. While driving the rpm's also revved and the vehicle started not to shift into second gear.the dealer replaced the sensor.the problem just started last weekend.consumer has heard about a recall for transmissions in f350 1999 and 2000, but that information was not available in the nhtsa database.

Vehicle had 38,000 miles on it when transmission went out on 2001 crewcab psd.ford said "too bad, warranty expired now". Ended up spending $5000 on a new transmission, not from ford, but from a diesel expert who said this is common to this vehicle, and specifically this year - he also has the same vehicle and had the exact same problem.we have owned ford vehicles for over 25 years, but never again will we buy a ford because we now feel they do not stand behind their vehicles.especially after finding out that this appears to be a pretty common problem, ford does know about it, yet refuses to do anything about it.

My 2001 ford f350 required a new transmision.the viecle had only 33,340 milesand was 3 years 3 months new

1)driving along at low speed and automatic transmission shifted from 1 to 2nd gear with large thump. Continued to drive and grinding sound occurred.immediate drove in 1st gear to dealer2)clutch assembly failure on auto transmisssion at 380003)ford wants to replace with refab transmission.

(1) no events leading up to failure.(2) transmission decided that it no longer wanted to shift.i was running empty pulling nothing. I was pulling off at my exit coasting as i came up to the light. As the truck shifted down i heard a clunk. Now i get a clickingl/grind/clunk where the truck tries to shift. The truck has 79k miles on it. Most of the miles are highway miles. I occassinally pull a 6500 lb travel trailer. I took the truck to my dealer who has a diesel/heavy duty truck shop. They say i need a new transmission and that it is out of warranty.(3) new transmission was installed.

This truck has had 4 transmissions, and a new motor along with many repairs.

Auto. Transmition failure on 2001 f350 superduty fords, this is the 4th one that i know of. The transmition fails to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. My truck has 58,000 miles, and i donot pull any heavy loads.ford said the repairs would be at my cost.if they are having so much trouble w/ them why isn't there a recall?

Engine failure in december of 2003 ford covered motor under warranty.transmission failure in feb of 2004. My truck has 37,700 miles on it and ford offered to pay for parts but not labor. I was told i should have bought the extended warranty, which tells me ford only stands behind their vehicles for 36,000 miles. I am very dissapointed.i have found many other ford vehicles same make, model and year with transmission failure. I do not feel i should have to pay for any of the repairs. My vehicle is is stilll under the 3 years and just over the mileage.

Lost 3erd gear in automatic trans.found out this is a common problem with this year truck. Got an estimate for $3600.00 by the ford dealer. Called fords help line and was told ford would not help that there is no recall for this problem. How many cases does it take before a recall is issued?

Vehicle has 85,600 miles, 95% of which are highway miles, 10% of which were pulling an 8,000 pound trailer.no signs of trouble until pulling away from a stop sign last night with no load.transmission engagement in my e04 transmission was a little erratic with a clunking noise.soon after, it didn't want to shift from 1st to 2nd gear without me backing way off of the throttle and then it shifted hard into 2nd.all shift points seem to be very slightly higher.no noticeable problems except in 1st gear.even moderate acceleration from a stop with no load produces erratic engagement problems. The service manager said that the ford 5-year, 75,000 mile bumper-to-bumper, 100,000 mile power train warranty that i bought with the truck won't cover the transmission since it is not considered part of the "power train".it is considered, instead, part of the "drive train."this is very misleading and ford should be forced to do something about these transmissions.i had to pay $96.00 for them to diagnose the problems, then another $96.00 to tear into it and provide an estimate.i was told that the ''one-way clutch'' had failed and filled the transmission with bits of metal.they said that it was bad enough that they would not recommend trying to rebuild the transmission but, instead, replace it with a remanufactured unit.they did indicate that ford has redesigned the newer one-way clutches and some other components to be stronger and those would already be installed in the remanufactured transmission. The cost: $3,400 plus tax with a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty and three more business days in the shop. This is my last ford vehicle.

Transmission failure while driving down the highway, no apparant reason for failure.

Ford f350 superduty autmatic transmission failed after only 50,000 miles.ford knows there is a problem but won't do anything.i know of a few others.

I was driving my 2001 ford f350 to work.just as i turned off the highway my truck lurched and the rear wheels began to skid.i put my truck into neutral and the rear wheels began to roll again.i coasted to a stop on the shoulder of the road.i tested the brakes and they where fine.i tried reverse and forward and everything seemed fine.i was close to work and the road shoulder was very narrow so i decided to see if i could get to work.the truck started out fine.however when it shifted to 3rd gear it lurched again and the rear wheels began to skid.i manually shifted back to second gear and the truck resumed normal operation for that gear.after talking to a number of transmission mechanics the consensus was clear.the 'mechanical diode' on the direct drum was seized.this problem is well documented.it is common on 2001 fords trucks with the 4r100 transmission.these are the only ford trucks with this 'mechanical diode'.after approximately 6 months of production ford switched back to using a roller sprag just as it had used in all automatic truck transmissions before and after.if this catastrophic transmission failure had occurred moments before or at any point the next day (snow rain mix) the result would have been total loss of control of the vehicle.i have had a transmission shop remove the defective part. They replaced it with the a redesigned ford part that replaces the 'mechanical diode' with a roller sprag.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f350 super duty.during the summer months when the temperature is 75 degrees and above, the vehicle leaks transmission fluid.while under warranty, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they added dye to the fluid.they stated that the pump seal was leaking.during the winter months, there was hardly any leakage.the contact stated that the overflow hose was not large enough for the fluid to run through it, and that it was a design defect.the vehicle currently has two transmission coolers.the current mileage was 125,000 and failure mileage was 81,000.

2001 f-350 super duty crew cab, the screws that hold the transmission shifter cable plate to the steering column shift tube, backed out of their holes.as the company mechanic i experienced the same problem previously on a different truck.i repaired the problem the same way, lowering the steering column, installing longer bolts with thread lock compound on the threads, added a nyloc nut on the end of the bolt.

2001 f-350 super crew, the screws that connect the column shifter tube to the plate that the shifter cable connects to, backed out of their holes.this action caused an improper reading, and selection of transmission gear.the vehicle was put into park, and did not make it past reverse.the truck was equipped with an aftermarket back up alarm, which alerted the driver, and avoided a dangerous situation.the vehicle was brought to me (the company mechanic) for repair.i dropped the steering column, threaded longer bolts in the factory holes with loctite, tightened bolts then added a nyloc nut on the back side.

While driving about 35-45 mph, my 2001 f-350 ford crew cab,4-wheel drive dually pickup truck came to a sudden stop with a loud explosion.i was able to return home as i was only about 1-1 1/5 miies from my house, i had the vehicle towed to the dealer where it was purchased, ricart ford. Looking under the truck, i noticed a large, gapping whole in the gear box on the front axle.it appeared that the explosion occurred in the housing, blowing a whole in the metal.i was informed that the truck was out of warranty (51,178 miles) and ford would not assist with the repairs. Ricart replaced the front axle with a used one from a junkyard for $3478.21.given their extimate for a new axle,my only option was to have the repair completed with a used one.i had to rent a car which cost $426.99.i have kept a log of my contacts with ricart and the only contact with the ford representative which i would be happy to summarize.i also have the damaged front axle and have taken several digital photos.needless to say, i am not satisfied with how things have gone thus far.for example, it took a long time to hear from ford.in fact, ricart avoided giving me a name to contact.even after being contacted by the ford rep, i asked for a contact above him and he informed me that even if i contacted the president, it would come back to him for the decision.when i asked for his phone number, he informed me that he did not have a phone and i could reach him through the dealer.had this occurred with my wife and 4 year old twins in the truck and the truck veered into on-coming traffic, we would be looking at a different avenue of relief.

Multiple failures of clutch master/slave cylinder assemblies. Told by the dealer that the failures are probably due to other problems in the clutch. I replaced my clutch and found a siezed pilot shaft bearing, damage to flywheel, andbad clutch pressure plate.

My ford f-350 superduty pickup truck (37,000 mi) was in gear and in motion when i stepped on the clutch pedal, prior to attempting to stop. The clutch pedal remained depressed to the firewall; and the clutch failed to disengage.i was unable to pull the transmission out of gear, and was forced to apply both feet to the brake pedal to get the truck to lurch to a stop.this was at idle speed.if this had happened on the highway at 70mph the results would have been disatrous.ford has issued a technical service bulletin (01-24-1) on this condition. This should be a safety recall item. The inability to disengage the clutch and safely bring the vehicle safely to a stop will result in serious bodily injury or death.the failure of the manufacturer to label this as a safety recall item is negligent.despite being specifically asked; the ford dealer service representative failed to notify me that there was a service bulletin on this specific item, when i took it in for repair at the dealership.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f350 super duty.the clutch pedal failed to engage when it was depressed.the contact had to apply tremendous force to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle.as a last resort, he had to cut the vehicle completely off to prevent it from dramatically jerking forward.the dealer replaced the master slave cylinder assemblies.there had been no further occurrences.the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer, but they did not assist because there was no recall.speed was not a relevant factor with his failures.the failure mileage was 34,244 and current mileage was 39,960.updated03-19-08updated 03/19/08

2nd failure of clutch master/slave cylinder assemblies, within 40,ooo miles

The floor-mounted manual shift lever (ford part number f81a-7k387-aa) broke off as the truck was being manuvered through a parking lot.fortunately this didn't occur as the vehicle was being driven onto the expressway onramp.when it broke, contol of the vehicle was lost.examining the shift level, at its base two bolts mount it to a flange coming out of the transmission, the level sheared at the top bolt, coming completely unattached to the transmission flange, making shifting the transmission impossible.

I was driving and driver side seat belt ,unlatched. This problem continues to date.

Driver seat belt.seat belt inadvertently comes loose.may stay fasten for five minutes or sometimes and hour then with no pressure applied to belt it just snaps loose.ford had a recall but they claimmy date of manufacture is not covered.i have filed a complaint with ford and carried my vehicle to the dealer but they offered no resolution except seat belts wear out.i don't think they should wear out after 38,000 miles.

Drivers side seat belt does not always latch properly. It will come unlatched while driving without warning.

The driver's seat belt will randomly come unbuckled while driving the vehicle.

I have a 2001 f-350 with captain chair seats. The seat belts do not stay latched. I looked on the internet and found that there is a recall for the seat belts. My vin number is not on this recall list. How do i get my seat belts repaired??

There is a seat belt recall for my vehicle a 2001 ford f-350 manufactured in the kentucky truck plant. The recall number is 01v227001. I have talked to my local ford dealer antelope valley ford, and to ford customer care. They both tell me there is no such recall. My front passenger seat belt is continually failing to remain latched, and ford is not willing to repair the item under the recall notice.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-350 sd. The front passenger seat belt buckle independently unlatched. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 06v286000 (vehicle speed control). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000. Updated 2/10/15

Front center seat belt on my vehicle, the plastic cover for the seat belt latch came off and the seat belt came out of the latch, making it unsafe for center seat passenger to sit.

Design flaw front brake calipers have no pad retention device and the thickness of the backing plate is less than or equal to the distance from the caliper cage to the rotor.this, combined with the lack of wear indicator tabs means that the brakes function properly right up until the friction material is almost gone at which time there is the scraping noise.at this time the pad can and has on my truck, slid right out of the caliper and landed on the ground.this leaves one trying to stop a one ton truck with the brake cup directly on the rotor.when it happened i was going very slowly in a warehouse so no damage occurred.it could occur on any superduty of that approximate vintage .

I have a 2001 ford f350 ipday i was attempting to launch my boat at a lake just east of boise, id, when the brakes gave out and i almost went into the lake.i got the vehicle back to my house and checked the wheels and noticed an in ordinate amount of brake fluid ion the right front wheel well. Being a retiredntsb investigator, i pulled the wheel and found the hydraulic brake line had come into contact with the tire which wore a hole in the line allowing the fluid to leak out.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f350 super duty.while driving 40 mph, an oncoming vehicle passed in front of the contact.he applied the brakes and the steering went to the right.he was unable to turn the steering wheel to the left.the vehicle passed and the contact was able to regain control.he also stated that the steering locks up when the brakes are applied.this failure has occurred three times.the dealer stated that the vehicle was designed in that manner.the current mileage was 72,741 and failure mileage was 72,500.

The brakes started pulling left around july of 2003.three different dealers worked on the vehicle.instead of fixing the problem, they changed the toe-in to counteract the truck pulling left on braking.as a result, the truck pulled right from excessive alignment change, which caused an accident.the dealer initially changed the rotors, and calipers, but it did not solve the problem.the only reason i knew that the dealer changed the alignment is because i took the truck to a goodyear tire store for an alignment before taking it to the dealer for the brakes.after the first time the dealer changed the alignment, i took the truck back to the goodyear tire store.they made the laignment right, but the truck stilled pulled left and the steering wheel was way off centered.goodyear tire told me to take it back to the delaer to fix the problem.once i got the truck back, the steering wheel was straight, but the alignment was wrong and it did not handle properly.in fact, the truck was dangerous to drive.after that i took ti to a dealer in reno, nevada and in dixon california.all dealers insisted that the pulling was caused by a tire pull.each dealership backed up the other dealership 's story, since i told them i had an accident that was caused by their work.

While breaking the vehicle sometimes pulls to the right or left, sometimes to the point that the vehicle is almost impossible to control, other times we get a server vibration while breaking again it is almost inpossible to control,we are geting only about 11000 miles out of a set of breaks, this unit is an ambulanceand although ford has replaced the break pads three times and the rotors twice in 33,000 miles this doe's not resolve the problem, now that the warranty will soon end they are now telling us that it is the ambulance manufacture problem. They still have not resolved the problem of why are we having all these problem they just keep changing parts. We all so have a 1999 that is almost a twin to this one but we have no breaking problems and are geting about 35,000 out of a set of breaks

I am having a problem with my steering and brakes.at times while driving my steering wheel will lock up and be very jerky,at times the steering wheel will go back and forth very fast and you cannot hold wheel straight.i have had this vehicle to the dealer 2 times in a week for this problem they replaced ball joints, steering stabilizer and tierodends.the problem still exsist and i have called dealer and they said they contacted ford and they are unsure of what else it could be.the brakes are also locking up while driving and when stopped there is alot of smoke from both rear brakes.again this is not all the time so dealer says they cannot fix this as well.i am very concerned i have a family that is in this vehicle and both of these issures are saftey.

Brake rotors on f-350 super crew warped. Vehicle was brought in on 11/07/01, mileage 10256, dealer turned rotors. Took back on 07/10/02, mileage 13026, same occurrence of problem. Returned to dealer 06/14/04, mileage 23690. Very hard time stopping, strong vibration and chatter from brakes. I was told that rotors were warped by another service station. I am trying to find out if their our other complaints with rotors on my truck.

2001 ford f-350 7.3 crew cab super duty purchased new . At 48000 miles bought it in for a steering wander problem and front brake pulsation.dealer diagnosed the problem to be bad upper and lower ball joints and bad drag link. I do not tow or plow with this vehiclehave had it servicedat dealerships for most of its service life don't think that the truck should have bad ball jointthis young in its service life. The wander makes the truck tricky to drive in winter conditions when you have to stay in the tire tracks on snow covered roads . You cant take your eyes off the road for a secondthe truck starts to wander not that your supposed to take your eyes off the road. As for the brake pulsation had the rotors turned @ 34000 miles because of the same problem it came back at about 38000 miles on a long trip nowno towing and no unusualhard braking. The pulsationmakes the truckhardto steer during moderate braking events.

While braking, vehicle will pull to left, right & sometimes to both directions.this degree of pulling will vary depending upon vehicle run time and temperature. Sometimes this pulling is extreme other times only moderate or slight. When pulling a trailer with any wieght, it is greatly accentuated. I have argued with the ford dealership regarding this complaint without a satisfactory conclusion. The dealership brought in an engineer who said this was a "normal" condition and your department had investigated this complaint and found no fault with this issue. My vehicle has had this problem since day one of ownership.this vehicle will pull/chatter constantly for days and other days it will not.since 20 dec 2002, my family has tracked the issue everytime the vehicle is driven all for the puroposes of assisting the diagnostic repair of this issue.it appears the more the vehicle is driven or the warmer the vehicle gets, the more it acts up.if fomoco says this is not an issue, why then have they replaced my front springs, ball joints and installed special expensive brake pads?i firmly believe this vehicle and many others have a braking issue fomoco refuses to deal with either by not having proper diagnostic tools and knowledge to repair this problem.i have 20+ years of experience working on military vehicles and was ase certified in 1987 on brake systems.please review this complaint carefully as i believe accidents will occur with many serious injuries. As of this date, we are still monitoring this vehicle in hopes you can and will investigate this and conclude there is a problem so ford will fix it.this information is available for your review.

The contact previously owned a 2001 ford f350 sd.the contact was driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions.the brake pedal was fully depressed and the steering wheel locked. Thedriver placed both hands on the steering wheel and maneuvered the wheel to the right.the steering wheel failed to unlock until the release of the brake pedal.the driver was able to resume normal operation.the failure occurred whenever pressure was applied to the brake system.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection.the technician stated the defect was a manufacturer design without a remedy.the failure mileage was 19,000.the vin was unknown.the contact no longer owned the vehicle.

When driving at approx. 40 to 65 mph at intermittent times when traveling over slightly uneven roads {not bumps} the steering wheel will begin to oscillate left to right with increasing frequency that will actually move the steering wheel 2-3 inches left to right, and require almost stopping the vehicle to regain control.you may be able to drive 200 miles before this will occur again.this truck only has 38,000 miles and has done this since day one. It has had front tires replaced, front shocks, numerous alignments, and tire balances from ford dealers, all with the same result.

Truck drifts to side of road or pulls hard and sudden when moderate to hard braking is applied.effect is not as apparent after alignment is performed.approximately 7 attempts were made to repair.tie rod pulled apart while driving.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-350 super duty.while driving 35 mph on uneven pavement, the contact's wife approached a change in the pavement and struck a bump in the road.as a result, the steering shaft disabled and caused her to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a parked vehicle.the contact's wife was uninjured.a police report was filed.the current and failure mileages were 114,000.

Dt*:the contact stated a snap was heard while making a left turn at 10 mph, and the vehicle lost all means of steering.the vehicle jumped a curve and landed in bushes before the brakes could be applied.the incident occurred during dry and flat road conditions.upon inspection, the contact noticed the steering box shaft that the pitman arm was attached to had snapped in half.the failure was permanent.the dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted.

Consumer states steering is loose and wheels will not turn causing loss of control.dealer replaced steering gear assembly. On another occasion, the steering wheel will not turn when braking.dealer replaced broken steering box and power steering pump. Consumer states since the power steering pump was replaced the steering wheel is off center and is difficult to turn when stopped and when in drive.

While driving about 35-45 mph on 1/23/2005, my 2001 f-350 ford crew cab, 7.3 turbo diesel, 4-wheel drive dually pickup truck came to a sudden stop in the road with a loud explosion.i was able to return home as i was only about 1-1 1/5 miles from my house.while peering under the truck, i noticed a large gaping hole in the gear box on the front axle.it appeared that the explosion occurred inside the gear box housing, blowing a large hole in the metal casing.i contacted ricart ford where i purchased the truck and they arranged to have the truck towed. When i inquired about this being a ford problem, i was told that the vehicle was out of warranty and i would be responsible for the entire cost of the repair.the final cost for the repairs was $3478.21 and the cost for a car rental for this period of time was $426.99. Guidelines per jeff penrod, ford rep:1.is there an extended warranty from ford?current or expired?even if it was expired, ford might help pay for the repairs.2.does the car owner go to a ford dealer for maintenance and repairs?3.is the owner related to a political member or family of power/influence? if so, ford would probably help.since i did not fit any of the above categories, i was told that ford would not help with the repairs.when i asked jeff if there was someone above him i could contact, he informed me that all the decisions come down to him that's why they pay him.even if it goes to the president, it will come back to him.i asked for jeff's phone number and i was told that he does not have a phone and that i could contact him through the dealer. When i asked the technicians how this could have happened, they had no idea.my belief is that there was a latent defect.how else could this have happened?this truck was made to tow and haul heavy equipment and supplies, of which i did neither.

Sector shaft failure on a 2001 ford f-350 superduty.shaft separated while driving through a chuck hole in a gravel/mud parking lot.failure did not result in a crash.sector shaft was a 36 spline, 1-1/4" diameter.i have both ends of the shaft for inspection.

I have noticed a problem with steering control when driving over rough roads...like railroad tracks. The steering will intermittently freeze up and it feels like the wheel bounce pulses thru the steering system when doing so. My vehicle also has managed to chew up my front tires within less than 30,000 miles. I find this terrible. I have chatted online w/ many others who had experienced the same tire wear. The tires in question are general grabber aw's. At this point i don't believe it is the tires that were defective. A friend with a similar dump-plow truck had a steering stabilizer on his while mine did not have one on as standard. I really felt it should have had one. It now does! so, i've since had the front end realigned and had two new grabber tr's put on since i was told by a ford dealer they no longer were making the others. I don't know how long these will last? i feel ford should have made it right to the owners as this was clearly a defective steering . To exacerbate the problem, i have those shiny aluminum rims that do not allow owners to rotate their tires with out/ breaking them down. This was clearly a goof on ford's part for not making allowances for this.*la

My question is this, why are the recalls that i retrieved from this site different form the ones i got from alldata. For example this site found one recall and alldata had five recalls that came up using the vehical vin#.

*dsy
