1st cruise control quit working. 3 weeks later a new problem began. To start vehicle i had to turn key to accessory, move gear shift from park to neutral, then turnedkey the rest of the way to start.afterarrivinganywherecould not leave vehicle in parkand could not move gear shift back to drive.i had to turn vehicle off and restart it with the above procedure.within a week after the shifting problem began i could not shut overdrive off.then,2 days later while leaving home , the smell of an electrical fire and bellowing white smoke eminatedfrom steering column.this fire occurred on may 13, 2007.vehicle was towed at my expense to the dealer from which it was purchased, laird-noller ford in lawrence, ks at a cost of $110.00.itwas currently still in the repair shop at above dealership, who informed me that the fuse panel short-circuited and melted and had to be replaced at a cost of approximately $670.00, bringingmy cost to over $780.00.the dealership then called me on may 17, 2007 and informed me that the cruise control still did not work after fixing the fuse panel.they traced down the problem with the cruise control, and it neededa new module at a cost of over $350.00 which they believedit to be the primary source of all of the aforementioned problems.they denied the cruise control recall was part of the problem, and refused to pay any of the cost on this part and the ensuing damage caused by this defective part.

2002 f-250 7.3l diesel. Driving down the highway pulling a horse trailer engine just completely stalled without warning. I lost all steering and brakes. I put it in neutral and restarted while coasting. Drove another few miles and it stalled again. Would not start again after that. This happened on a remote highway at night. Had a wrecker tow us to a diesel shop who reported truck started fine next day. Went and picked it up and it stuttered a few times on the way home but did not stall. A few months later, engine stalled at a red light in heavy traffic but started back up. Took it to my mechanic who read a cam position sensor circuit fault on the computer. Replaced cam position sensor. A few months later, stalled again at an intersection. I coasted to the side of the road and had it towed to my mechanic. Upon arriving and unloading from wrecker. Truck started up. Started to drive it home and stalled again halfway there on a busy rural road with no shoulder. Called wrecker again and towed to different diesel shop. Replaced cps again and truck started fine. Took it home and ran it at idle until engine temp was normal. Engine stalled again and would not start. Waited about 2 hours and it started up just fine and ran at idle for one hour without stalling. Current cps was from ford dealer (the grey one) but apparently the same problem as the one involved in nhtsa id: ea06012 recall from 2006 is still a problem. It could stall without warning in the middle of an intersection and cause a serious crash. This is a serious safety issue!!

On november 26th 2017, my truck started having a significant mis-fire in cylinder #4. Travelling at about 30 mph on city streets; this particular incident was not a safety issue although difficult to limp the vehicle home as it did not accelerate well.upon removing the spark plug; it was determined that the cylinder head threads in the spark plug port have been damaged.this would have resulted in an ejected spark plug had the vehicle been continued to be operated.since this is the 3rd different cylinder this has occurred on with numerous reports from multiple owners of the same engine design by ford; i have decided to file this report.this is the 2nd report i have filed with the nhtsa.the first report i filed was because the 2nd time this occurred; a spark plug ejected from the #3 cylinder at highway speeds with a significant reduction in speed in traffic on the highway.that occurrence also caused a significant vibration and had to be pulled over immediately.even though there have been significant reports to ford and documented occurrences dating back to 1997; ford continues to say that because no "safety issues" have risen or been proven to be caused by this issue that it is not there problem.i will also be filing reports with bbb, consumer affairs and consumer reports.

The #3 spark plug blew out of the engine head. This is the second time this has happened on the same side of the engine. By blowing out, it is a fire hazard ,as the engine still pumps gas through this piston. This is an expensive problem to fix and ford needs to take responsibility for its bad head problem.

My 2002 ford f250 super duty 5.4 gasoline engine had a spark plug blow out at around 165,000 miles.i had pulled over to take a call turned off the engine, when i started it back up it was making a loud popping sound, my machanic shop was next door to where i was so i was lucky that i did not have to drive it anywhere.

2002 ford f-250 pickup with a 5.4 litre engine.spark plugs keep blowing out of the engine.the ford service department tells me they see this often and then present me with a $400.00 bill each time a spark plug blows loose.i've recently learned that this can also result in an engine fire because the compressed gas and air mixture are being blown through the spark plug hole, while the loose plug continues to fire nearby.

Dt*:the contact stated at various speeds, without warning, the vehicle stalled.the vehicle restarted occasionally.when the vehicle would not restart, a new camshaft position sensor was installed.the vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic and the problem persists.

Complaint regarding problems with ford v-10 engine. *mr the consumer started a petition with other ford consumers who have experienced problems as well.additional problems the consumer experienced were:brief tapping noise and a pop, then a loud noise like a manifold leak, the mechanic observed a spark plug had been blown out of the cylinder and the cylinder head had broken.the consumer's cell#845 0 438-3527. *sc

Help!spark plugs #3 and #5 have blown in my ford 2002 f250 since the beginning of 2011. These failures have happened on two separate occasions causing me to loose power on major highways and narrowly avoiding an accident while trying to navigate my way through traffic to get to a safe place.i understand that this failure happens frequently to a large number of ford vehicle owners.i also understand that nhtsa has denied any further action against ford.i find this denialquestionable with the vast number of complaints about this same problem occurring over and over.my safety and the safety of others was jeopardized on both occasions that my plugs blew out of their sockets.something needs to be done!

On 03/16/2012 at 10:30pm while on my way home from work, i came to a stop at a stop sign. Truck was running fine. As i pulled away from the stop sign and accelerating i heard a loud pop and what sounded like an exhaust leak. I immediately pulled over and looked under the hood. I found that the coil on the #3 spark plug was out and the exhaust sound was coming from the hole where the spark plug should have been. Only living 2 miles from work, i drove the truck home and parked it til morning. In the morning i went out and tried to put the plug back in and realized there were no threads to thread the plug into. This is very disconcerting realizing that there will be some major work needing to be done on the truck before i can drive it again. Not to mention cost. Upon some internet research, i have found that this has been a major problem with these ford trucks and that ford is refusing to do a recall on this matter. I just purchased this truck on 03/12/2012 and cannot drive it any more.i will not drive it any more due to the safety aspect of the fuel vapors coming out of the hole and possibly catching fire from the spark plug wire still arcing. Least of all that it will cause more damage to the engine before it can be repaired. Thank you for your time in this matter and i am hoping that something can be done in the near future that will make ford do a recall on these trucks and get the problem fixed once and for all.

My family is ford motor dedicated and as we buy new trucks the old ones are passed on to other family members. We purchased three new trucks and having problems with two. They are ford 2002 f250 super duty with the 7.3 l diesel. Both trucks have had there defective injector wire harnesses replaced, shorted out on the interstate causing the engines to shut completely down. No steering, brakes, nothing. I was told by the tech that the wiring is defective and the oil and heat is what was caused the failure, he has seen this repair quit often. The other problem is acceleration to pass or get up to speed quickly going on the interstate or anywhere, when you depress the throttle pedal quickly there is nothing like it just fell on its face. After you take your foot of the pedal and count about 5 seconds and try it again it will work. Big safety issue. I have had 4 close calls and cant afford to repair this truck all the time on v.a. Disability. If you know anything please pass it on or back to me. Repairs are very expensive. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

One of the vapor valves breaks on the gasoline tank, it is not replaceable so you have to buy a new tank.ford has obsoleted the tank and it is not available from any place.you can smell the gas vapors when the truck is at rest.i am waiting for it to blow up.

While driving the mounts that hold the fuel tank failed causing the tank to fall off and drag on the road, eventually wearing a hole in the tank causing the fuel to leak out. Obviously once the gas ran out the vehiclewould no longer operate. We were lucky that there was no fire.

The contact owns a 2002 ford f-250. While the contact was inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the fuel system tank straps were lose. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Have had approximately $8000 in car repair bills in last few months for our 2002 ford f250 diesel truck and 2005 ford explorer xlt. Tremendous financial burden 2002 ford f250 diesel truck - hubs seized, loss of control of vehicle premature rusting of vehicle body, tailgate but most importantly the oil pan in which replacing the old pan became an approximately $3,000 repair bill.2005 ford explorer - transmission went at 80,000 miles! hubs seize.

Ford f250 with transmission problems.consumer stated that he is extremely frustrated and displeased with the business practices of dealer**ccthe vehicle was purchased used.the vehicle was taken to the dealer because it would not operate in reverse.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the problem therefore the vehicle was taken to another dealer.that dealer determined that the problem was with the transmission.since the vehicle was under warranty the consumer took it back to the sales dealer.they claimed that they would not be able to repair the vehicle because of after market alterations.all alterations were made prior to the consumer acquiring the vehicle.

After coming to a stop at a retail parking lot, i could not shift into park. It felt as though the shift lever had become unattached from the transmission. I shut the vehicle off while in drive and applied the parking brake. Investigation revealed that the bracket that is attached to the transmission to hold the shift cable to allow shifting of the transmission, broke away from the transmission threaded mounting bosses.the aluminum threaded mounting bosses crumbled with several pieces falling to the ground. The inability of placing the vehicle into neutral or park especially at a time of urgency is of great concern to me. A repair option short of replacing the transmission has not yet been discovered. Several ford dealers said that they have never heard of such an issue. My mechanic who is trying to develop a make-shift bracket stated he has seen many cases on web sites that are available to repair stations. One google search on ford truck forum showed an identical problem such as mine.thank you

Drivers seat belt keeps coming unlatched for no reason while driving. Nothing is stuck inside.i latch it and tug hard to make sure fully latched. Then after a few minutes of driving, it releases for no reason.my best friends 2006 f250 also has the same problem.

On several occasions, without any reason, my driver-side seat belt has unbuckled itself while the vehicle is moving (speed does not seem to be a factor).after experiencing this a few times i began inserting the buckle and jiggling it and pulling it to make sure it locked firmly before driving.even after having done this, there have still been times when it unbuckled itself while driving.if i get into in an accident the seat belt may not offer any restraint/protection.

The driver's and passenger's seat belt will unlatched for no apparent reason.this happens at all different speed. It has happened while driving on all paved streets and highways

My drivers side seatbelt has started to randomly unbuckle.there isn't anything touching it, pressing it or otherwise interfering with the operation.i firmly press the buckle into the receptacle, pull on it to ensure it is latched and randomly it will come undone.the dealership said there isn't a recall or warranty to cover it so i had to purchase a new receptacle. This has happened going as slow as 5mph and as fast as 50mph and is quite startling as the seatbelt instantly starts to rewind.i don't feel comfortable driving my truck knowing the seatbelt might not hold if an accident were to happen.

At random intervals, with no provocation, my seat belt will unclick itself. After i re-buckle, tugging on it will not cause it to release. However this has now happened four times since i bought the vehicle 3 months ago.

After the consumer turned the ignition switch, the passenger seat belt exploded.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving both front seat belts locked up.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and the seat belts were replaced.the seat belts continued to lock up.also, the driver side seat belt does not retract and the passenger side seat belt intermittently will not release.there have been no further repairs. 2002 ford f250 super duty rusted steel brake line which caused the brakes to fail at 25mph in neighborhood.i have 84,507 miles on the vehicle and do not live in a harsh environment.the location of rusty area is approximately 6 - 12 inches away from junction splice for the front brakes and rear brake line.the rusty brake line is the long rear brake line.the steel brake line is rubbing a cable cover that has metal tape on it and has caused premature rusting.i live in east tennessee and the weather is not harsh. I purchased the vehicle new and had brake rotor problems before and had the dealer to turn the rotors once and replace the front rotors.thank goodness i was traveling in the neighborhood when this happen.the week before i drove the truck on i-40 going to north carolina thru the gorge.what if it happened then?

The emergency parking break does not work, i don't think it ever has. I have had it repaired twice over the years and it quickly quit both times. It feels like normal resistance when you push it in with your foot, and does a normal clunk and release when you release it, but it does not at all hold the truck in place. It is a manual transmission so it is very inconvenient for this to not work. An example, that i have to deal with regularly is hooking up to a trailer. I need to get out to see how close i am and i have to put it in gear (only reverse will hold it, the other gears will slip and the truck will roll) and turn it off to go look.

[xxx]the steering box constantly fails. Becomes loose inside. Vehicle wanders severely. This is an ongoing problem since vehicle was purchased new. I'm putting in the 3rd steering gear. Ford mechanics would not consider the box being bad. It was my fault. Excuses were ball joints, keep them greased. I greased it once a week prior to it being in the dealership. As it wouldn't stay on the road.then it was the nature of the vehicle. They all do it. What?it has new moog ball joints. So that's out. Very well greased. I have experienced what appears to be a side wall failure of a firestone light truck tire.the failure occurred shortly after entering the highway at a speed of approximately 65 mph.while accelarating down the entrance ramp i noticed a vibration coming from the rear of the truck which stopped once i merged onto the highway at about 55 mph.at that time i thought the vibration was due to rough pavement on the entrance ramp.a short time later, possibly 3 or 4 miles, the driver side rear tire blew.there was a slight loss of control as the rear end of the truck felt as if it were sliding from side to side.the truck noticeably leaned to the left .the exterior sidewall (facing the outside of the truck) of the tire had separated entirely leaving only a small ring of rubber around the rim of the wheel.i'm concerned that this is the type of failure that has occurred with other firestone tires.when i bought this truck i was told by the dealership that these tire were safe. 552(b)(6).
