I have on multiple occasions had spark plugs come flying out of the head of my truck. I have asked around and heard that on most ford trucks and econoline vans are blowing these out on the regular. I have also heard that it is due to the aluminum heads having only 4 weak threads. I would just like to point out the fact that it has happened twice to me and can cost anywhere from 200 to 1700 dollars to fix depending on how severe things are. I would greatly appreciate some research into this subject as i am sure thousands of others would.

The vehicle was parked for 2 days and a fire was started in the engine compartment.the horn was heard blowing when the consumer noticed that the vehicle was on fire.two months prior to the fire, the cruise control stopped working.there were no after market equipment.there was travel trailer wiring that was on the back of the truck.the vehicle was insured by unitrin 800-777-4342 jl rausin.

While parked in the garagevehicle caught on fire.the cause had yet to been determined.vehicle was considered a total loss.

While driving 20 mph driver noticed smoke coming from under the hood.driver pulled over and opened the hood.suddenly, vehicle caught on fire. Driver was able to extinguish the fire.vehicle was towed home. The consumer had to unplug the wires connected to the brake master cylinder to stop the fire.now the vehicle has no automatic cruise control.the consumer was told by local ford service department that the fire was probably caused by the cruise control switch.the manufacture has a recall on f150 pickups but not the f250.the problem has not been repaired and the wires have been left unplugged for now.

I have had my 1997 ford f-250 for a few years and besides an abi's i'vew previous owner it hasn't given any issue. That is up until a month ago when my instrument cluster up and quit working. There was no warning and no fuses or relays faulty either, i spoke with friends of mine who own similar model years of my truck and they say they have had the same issue.

Dt: consumer wantedhis switchon front of vehicle fixed. He has been told that the plastic meltedand allowed the brake fluid to come out and catch on fire. Consumer saidthat he knew that 2000 and 2001 year models have been recalled, and consumer wanted his vehicleto be included in this recall.

We responded to fomoco recall #07s57 on march,08, all supporting documents were provided, original receipts, etc. After several follow-up calls to their customer service center, on june,08. Were told all is in order and approved and the reimbursement check for $ 318.41 for repair is in the mail. So far, as of september 08 no word from ford...and no check.

After several inches of rain my 1997 ford f250 light duty began trying to start while parked in the driveway.the only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery cable.the battery cable was red hot and smoking.luckily my neighbor noticed or it would have caught fire.this is the second occurrence of this problem for this vehicle.both followed heavy rains.the first occurrence included spontaneous starting, interior lights coming on, left side window failure, speedometer failure, and continued operation of fan, windows and radio with ignition off.researching this issue has made me aware that this is a common problem due to water leaking through the windshield and seeping into the generic electronic module and fuse box causing multiple symptoms including the ones stated above.

Vehicle was parked for two hours whenit caught on fire on its own. The fire department extinguished the fire. Vehicle was towed to a garage for inspection. The cause has not been determined at this time.

Consumer has had a number of almost accidentsdue to the horn sensors locations. Consumer can only fit the circular part of finger tips on to blow the horn, and that sometimes is hard to find, sometimes it's too late.

Why is the ignition switch recalled only for f-150 pickup trucks while the same switch is in the f-250 and f-350 trucks as well?

The vehicle caught on fire, consumer believed the fire started due to a defective starter componet.

Electrical fire in steering wheel.the wire was too small for amps. The consumer disconnected the wire.

While parked in the driveway, the vehicle caught on fire, damaging fuse boxes and wiring harness. Estimated damage $3.000. No injuries reported.. .......

While driving and without any indication consumer noticedvehicle was on fire. Consumer put out fire. Manufacturer has been contacted. Please provide further information.

This is third cam position sensor this truck has had (140000 miles on truck).has died twice while pulling into traffic, very dangerous almost caused accident both times.this is a very wide spread problem that happens with all of these 7.3 powerstrokes.i carry, as a lot of people do, an extra one in the glove box for the next time it happens!

Consumer heard loud noise coming from underneath hood/parked vehicle, extended cab was completely burnt, state farm insurance analysis was it was an electrical fire.

While the vehicle was parked, a fire started under the hood.the vehicle was totaled.the dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.*sc

I was driving along on rt 295 during a rain storm and my windshield wipers stopped working along with other electrical componets in my truck. I drive a 97 ford f250 4x4 xlt. Luckily i was not injured. I took my truck to be fixed where i was told that i needed to replace my gem module and fuse box. I thought that was odd. The mechanic said that the windshields on the model of my truck is known to leak and damage those componets. I could of got into a serious accident that day, resulting in death of me or other people on the road.

This is the fourth time this has happened, the spark plug shoots out of the block and shortly after you can smell gas fumes with is an obvious fire hazard. Not only is it expensive to find a mechanic who can coil the plug back into the block, after reading about it the same incident happens to many owners who have the same truck as i do. Yet, there hasn't been a recall.

The truck would stop running while driving down the street, not start after driving, stop shut off and then would not start. Some times it may not start for several days then all of a sudden it would start up again and be fine for weeks then would start the whole process over again. It may stop at any time any where whether highway or city street. Total loss of power, engine shuts off. I had many extremely dangerous situations, with family members and other vehicles causing them to make evasive actions. This vehicle has a manufactures buy back from original purchaser when, new but no explanation could be found. I spoke to ford and they said they have no record of the buy back. It is on the title also.

Attempting to pass on a two line highway when spark plug blew out of engine.vehicle is a 1997 ford f250 4wd 80k miles.repairs involve removing head.cost is $2800.vehicle worthless since don't know when another plug will blow!

The brake pedal had to be pumped in order to get the vehicle to stop. The front and rear rotors have been replaced 5 times.the parking brake cable failed and was replaced.the radiator failed 3 times and the heater core failed.*nlm

Dt*: the contact stated while parked and off, the vehicle caught on fire.there were no warnings prior to the incident.the insurance agency could not find the cause of the fire.

- the contact owns a 1997 ford f250. He received a recall notice for the crankshaft position sensor. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they ran a diagnostic that showed a problem with 3 sensors. The contact is a mechanic so he remedied the recall himself. When he contacted the manufacturer for reimbursement of the parts and labor he was advised that they would only reimburse him for the crankshaft position sensor and that they would not reimburse him for the other parts or labor. The current mileage was 86000 and the failure mileage was 83000.

I have a 1997 ford f-250 with with 87,000 miles on a 5.4 liter engine. One of the spark plugs was ejected from the engine, threads and all, which also damaged the ignition coil.

The radiator has been replaced 5 time due to leakage.the heater core has been replaced twice due to leakage.*nlm

Ford motor co. Refuses to do safety recall 07s57 on my 97 f-250the recall is for the cam shaft position sensor. It must be replaced because the vehicle stalls while driving which can lead to an accident. They are refusing to do the recall due to a seized bolt. If this bolt breaks they want me to pay $2500 to get the safety recall completed.

While driving, the seat reclined which left the driver laying completely down.the seat base assembly had broken on the driver's side front seat.*sc the tie rods had to be replaced. The consumer was unable to shift gears, because the shifter bolts had broke loose from the dashmounts, the head gaskets failed and the check engine light never illuminated.the hub/axle seals were replaced.

Strong odor of diesel was in vehicle. Diesel was floating around in engine.diesel hand was going down.

Monday, july 31 2007, i experienced the last of a series of intermittent stalling events in my 1997 ford f250 hd vehicle, equipped with a 7.3 dit powerstroke diesel.subsequent to my own investigations, i discovered that the cam position sensor was a component implicated in such events.i replaced the component on july 27, 2007, after an increase in stalling problems.the condition repeated on the later date above, and i drove the vehicle to a repair facility.they could not find any diagnostic codes from the pcm, but the stalling episodes increased during their analysis.after performing other system diagnostic procedures, they were left with the final conclusion that the cps must be the culprit for the stalling condition.the newer cps i installed was replaced by the repair technician with another cps.to date the condition appears resolved.i have retained all parts and the repair work-order.

I own a 1997 ford f250 truck.on the below listed date, while driving at 0430 hrs in the morning on a two lane roadway, the third spark plug on the passenger side blew out of the cylinder head.i looked up information on internet and found that this problem has been occurring without warning or fault of the drivers/owners for a number of years.this just happened today and i have not contacted any repair service yet.it is obvious that this is a problem and ford has not recognized the design fault.i was lucky i was able to get off the road safely due to the lack of engine power from this problem.my complaint is that the ford motor company has known about this safety issue for several years and done nothing to notify owners of the potential dangerous situation not to mention unwarranted cost to vehicle owners that could possibly prevent this if it was known.it is pertanant that someone or some organization with standing and power deal with the ford motor company on this issue.thanks for your time.

The vehicle stalls out and dies without warning.the dealer has been contacted.

While driving along a spark plug was blown out of the cylinder with the insuing loud banging scaring the driver and almost causing an accident.ford dealer rethreaded spark plug hole and replaced spark plug.

While driving under wet or snowy road conditions the engine goes idle oncetaking foot offthe gas pedal.comsumeralso stated thathas loss of controlof the vehicle once trying and putting on the brakes.consumer contacted the dealer and was told that's how the engine was built into the fuel computer.

1997 ford f25.this was the second spark plug to blow out of head. First repair cost $450.00, this time it cost me my truck, 2 cameras, gps, laptop computer and several other items as the truck cought on fire when spark plug hit fuel inection rail an started a fuel fire that burntthe truck to ground. Total loss. Burnedmy hands trying to save items in cab. Had a fire extinguisher, but high pressure fuel lines sprayed fire to fast. My girl friend, her dog, and i had 30 seconds to get out. In 2 minutes the cab was engulfed in flames. I will be dismantling this engine as i am a mechanic and machinist and plan to prove there were not enough threads securing spark plugs in thee alumin umheads. Therewere standards outlined for machining threads.

While driving, the vehicle lost steering and braking power.the assembly that tightened the belt drive around the steel shaft about one inch in diameter had broken off at the time where the truck had no brakes or steering. *scc

Front end misalignment causing vehicle to vibrate and premature wear of tires. In addition, belt tensioner roller makes noise when vehicle is started, and popping noise from cab when driving over uneven surfaces due to cab mounting bolts to frame being loose.

Upon activation of the brakes during trailor hauling(5th wheel), the exhaust developed a leak in the down line directly after the turbo.

Exhaust system is located in the front of rear wheels is causing discoloration of wheels and melting oftires.

Oxygen sensor failed.yh

A catalytic convertor was put on a diesel truck. This caused a back pressure to occur. A hole was created in bottom of turbo. Carbon monoxide was escaping through heater vent, causing a hazardous problem for driver, who became nauseous & had a headache. Manufacturer knows about problem, but is not doing anything.

Engine failed due to overhead cam pulley catalatic converters being totally blocked. Yh

My complaint has to due with the pcv valve hose that runs to the vacuum system. It gets too warm and melts and it causes the engine to stutter or stall causing the vehicle to stop rapidly. I have noticed this on many of the f250 or f150 5.4l triton engines. This has happened several times to my truck and it is expensive to keep replacing it. It has almost caused a few rear endings.

The exhaust pipe heat shield was in contact with the metal transmission fluid tube from the transmission to the radiator. Over a period of time the shield wore a small hole in the tube, resulting in a pinhole, which caused the transmission fluid to be released under pressure directly onto the exhaust pipe.

Consumers vehicle will not pass future vehicle inspections because exhaust pipe exits on the side (design).

Spare tire carrier failed causing the tire to fall off. Yh

Consumer states cable that mounts spare tire under truck broke while driving, causing spare to fall off.ts

While driving spare brace faled and tire bounced ten feet in the air.lucy for everyone no one was following or in the other lane.

The cable that holds the spare tire broke, causing thespare tire to fall off, which almost caused a crash.please provide further information.

1997 ford f-250ld rear window leaks. You guys have already looked into the problem but i think it really needs to be taken care of.i and many others that i have talked to with the sliding rear window have had this problem and it is destroying the head lights in these trucks plus other damage to the truck and what's in it. This happens anytime it rains hard or soft and when i wash the truck.i have a friend that works as a mechanic for ford and he said he has seen a lot of these problems.ford does not really have a good answer for the problem and when they do fix it, it does not last for long.i have no problem with ford trucks and would buy them again and i think that they need to find how to fix the problem and fix all the trucks that have this problems.thank you for any help.*la

Head light switch will turn on and off intermittently during operation , and at times, it is diffcult to turn it on. Switch was replaced once under warrany, and only lasted for 1 year.defect has reoccurred. When dome light is turned on the head light goes off because the switch is the same for both.

Turn signals would fail to stay on if road bears opposite of signal. Left turn road bearing right slightly, would turn signal off. The signal can turn itself off.turn signal was replaced by dealership. But,problem was not solved, unable to be fixed, dealership states that is the function of the signal, consumer most hold signal on with one hand and steer with the other.

The fuel tank straps failed on my truck causing the fuel tank to detach and make contact with the ground while the vehicle was in motion. I had the tank and related parts replaced at a local shop.however, the mechanic informed me that the mounting points for the vehicle's gas tank straps were also rusted and new straps could not be installed in the normal manner.when the recall was issued i took the vehicle to a local ford dealer that attempted an official repair of the straps but concluded the mounting brackets were too damaged to install new straps.whether the defect was all corrosion or a combination of corrosion and the effects of the tank being ripped from the remaining mounts when the straps failed was not determined. The dealer and i called a ford company representative who initially agreed to have ford cover the repair of the vehicle but this was later rescinded by a superior and i left with an unsafe, incomplete repair.i would like the national highway traffic safety association to examine the incidence of structural and mounting bracket failures due to premature corrosion not limited to the straps themselves.several local mechanics have commented that they see this very, very frequently on ford trucks of that vintage.my truck will not pass inspection with the brackets rusted as they are.given the seriousness of the issue, i believe this bears very close examination.ford says it has not process to follow up on this concern.i continue to receive recall notices but they are useless since ford will not acknowledge related damage, damaged caused by the defective straps and/or additional issues that very likely exist with the corrosion resistance of some ford truck frames.this truck's frame has continued to experience significant frame based rust deterioration while other parts of the vehicle seem to follow a much more normal aging pattern.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-250. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when she smelled a fuel odor. Upon examining the vehicle, the contact noticed that the fuel tank was leaking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the straps which held the fuel tank in place corroded through the fuel tank. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting). The failure mileage was 71,506.

Upon reading about a ford recalls 2.7 millionf150-250 trucks i found that mine was included in that recall by calling the dealership in scarsdale, ny. Made an appointment for sept 20, 2011 and after an hour in service they tell me they cannot replace straps because the straps have made a hole in tank (rusted through). I was sent out of the dealership with notice that ford was not going to pay for replacement tank and they could not do the strap recall because of the tank. No temporary strap was placed around my tank to keep it from falling onto roadway. So i had been driving the truck ready to drop the bomb at anytime. On sept 27, 2011 i went to another dealership smith cairns in yonkers and after a day was told the same thing. I have and will not remove my truck from this dealership until ford makes it safe to drive at their expense.

Rear gas tank leaking gas.straps appear to have rubbed hole in tank.

After hearing about the ford recall on august 1, 2011 concerning the metal mounting straps holding upthe gas tank(s) on 1997-1999 ford f-250 trucks, i checked underneath my truck and found that one of the mounting straps on the front gas tank was completely rusted and hanging.the other front strap as well as the two straps on the rear gas tank are also severely rusted and compromised.i contacted my local ford dealer as well as ford motor company to let them know about the problem but they refused to do anything about it.it is just a matter of time before these straps will fail causing my gas tanks to hit the ground.

November,2005 woke up to heavy odor of gas coming from my attached garage found my 1997 f-250 truck had lost gallons overnite took to local ford dealer told me tank rusty, under skid plate& spare tire. Cost me $734.27 i said is there a problem with these tanks, wasasked aboutrecallwas told no recall-went home calledford motor co.told them my situation &costs for a garage kept, rarely saw snow & meticulously kept up inside& outtruck ,they were no help at all. Sold this truck approx 2006 to my friend who ownsa local harley davidson business,it is still running and looking great. Thenbought 1997f-150 at local ford dealer 5/14/12that i got a recall on for the same problem, had work donefor thefuel tank/strap asy took it in done at no cost,i believe i am owed a refund & interest on the $734.27on the 1997 f250 inmy garage also were 2 harleys one being a collectible i feel fordchose to keep this matter hushed and i could have lost everything. I believe i am due a refundasap i should not have had to pay forford motor company'smistakes and attempted cover up. Thank you for your time & attention tomy long overdue matter, any help to rightthis wrong would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-250.while driving 5 mph, the fuel tank strap fractured and only one strap was left that to keep the fuel tank attached to the vehicle.the dealer advised the contact of nhtsa campaign id number: 11v385000 ( fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting) but stated that the contacts vin was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the vehicle was repaired by a private mechanic who replaced both fuel tank straps.the current mileage was 92,500 and the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-250. While the vehicle was parked and turned off, the contact noticed an overpoweringgasoline smell coming from the rear of the vehicle. After examining the vehicle, the contact noticed that the fuel tank was leaking next to the fuel tank straps. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that nhtsa campaign id number:11v385000 applied to his vehicle and that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileages were 180,000.

Driving the vehicle at a slow speed over a gravel road, the straps and/or their attachment points to the frame failed, allowing the tank to drop and make contact with the road.this was prior to ford's recall regarding the straps and a repair was made at the local shop. Repairs consisted of a new tank, sending unit and straps.the shop indicated that the straps had failed but new straps could not be fitted because, either because of the mechanical action of tearing away the tank or because of deterioration, the mounting points were not in sufficiently good shape to reattach the straps.the shop fashioned an attachment consisting of chains suspending the tank from the frame.subsequently, on receiving ford's recall notice regarding the straps, i took the vehicle to a ford dealer who, after an attempt to repair, indicated the vehicle needed more work to implement the correction.the dealer (and i) spoke to a ford representative who initially authorized the repair but, when the extend of the required repair was somewhat greater than anticipated, was overruled by someone else at ford and ford denied the repair.the truck effectively could not be inspected in the future because of this defect and it use was lost other than occasional use on the property.follow-ups with ford resulted in their claim that ford was only liable for the straps and not any consequential or related damage and no other recourse was available.i would like the national highway traffic safety association to look into the ramifications of limiting a safety recall of this nature to the defective straps only and not the consequences of the defect.i am also requesting and examination of ford's willingnessto send a vehicle back onto the streets with an uncorrected know safety issue.

Just filled the truck with gas. Was driving on a washboard dirt road. The front of the gas tank dropped onto the road and dragged. Tank was punctured and several gallons of gas leaked out slowly. I used a wratchet strap to lift the tank off the road and secure it. Patched the tank with a sealer from the auto parts store but by next morning it was leaking again.purchased a used tank and straps from a junkyard for $150. The original tank is in my junkpile if you'd like it. Glad to see this problem is being corrected. If i had been driving on an asphalt road i'd probably be in heaven right now.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-250. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting). The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle could not be repaired because the fuel tank was also rusted. The manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 142,000.

After filling gas tank and parking the vehicle at home, a strong smell of gas was noted with a large amount of gas coming from the in area of the gas tank. Upon inspection of the gas tank, it was noted that gas was leaking in several areas. 20 gallons of fuel was lost over a three day period while the truck was parked, and after driving only 20 miles on an approx. 24 gallon tank of fuel, the truck was empty of fuel. I replacement fuel tank and straps were bought from a local parts store, after contacting a local ford dealership and was told ford no longer produced fuel tanks for the make and model of the vehicle. Upon removing the original fuel tank and straps, significant amounts of rust and corrosion noted on both support straps and to the under side of the fuel tank also with several small holes in the tank in the area of the fuel tank support straps.

The contact owns a 1997 ford f-250 hd. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact heard a loud noise coming from outside of the vehicle and also smelled a slight burning odor. Upon reaching the destination the contact noticed both fuel tank straps were fractured which were supporting the front fuel tank. The vehicle was equipped with a dual fuel tank. As a result of the dragging of the front fuel tank, there was damage which caused a large fuel leak. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The trucks engine will completely stall when the fuel tank is low on fuel and the truck comes to a quick stop such as a red light or at an intersection.the truck will also stall when the fuel tank is low on fuel and the truck is slowing down or stopping on a decline.the stalled truck must be stopped, the transmission must be put back into "park," and the vehicle restarted before proceeding with travels.on two occasions, the truck has stalled unexpectedly in an intersection, nearly resulting in a collision from vehicles following too closely behind.the stalling does not occur when the trucks fuel tank level is above a quarter tank and the vehicle is brought to a quick stop, or slowed and/or stopped while heading down a decline.

Fuel was spraying out at an alarming rate.

Ref:een19-47774 (to be fwd by mail)the front tank strap on the vehicle failed and the tank dropped until supported by skid plate. Some diesel fuel spilled in garage, creating fire hazard but was cleaned up w/o incident. I contacted diehl ford in bellingham wa as no ford dealer in juneau ak at that time. I ordered and they sent 2 straps (f72z-9054-ba), bolts&nuts which i found out later were not authorized by safety recall 11s21!i contacted the local (temporary) ford repair facility--evergreen motor works relative to this repair and they discovered the safety recall 11s21 and stated that alaska vehicles were not covered by this recall.i cotacted ford motor co. By email and got the same answer. The contact owns a 1997 ford f-250. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift from low gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 168,000.

Fuel tank 1 seems to pump fuel into tank 2. Fuel switchon "front" seems to indicate proper amount of fuel. Fuel switch on "rear" always reads full. Sometimes fuel will flow out of rear tank as soon as fuel cap is removed. I drove about 75 miles with the fuel switch on "rear". When i arrived at my destination, i unscrewed rear tank cap and fuel spewed out.......maybe a gallon or so.

Any time the driver steps on the brake, the gear shifts automatically to neutral causing safety hazard.

The vehicle was put in park on a hill. The owner got out of the vehicle, and the vehicle popped out of park and began to roll in reverse. Dealer has not seen.

Structure of the body had a crack. Crack is started at the window opening, and wasworking its way rearward. Also, noticed when washingvehicle paint was chipping because the crack behind the window on the driver's side door post wasgetting bigger.

My vehicle exhibits cracks in the door sheet metal at the lower rear of the belt molding on both the passenger and driver's sides.these cracks are rusting and in time will compromise the integrity of the doors and thereby the safety of the passenger compartment.

Drivers side outer door has a horizontal "stress crack" in the sheet metal. If looking at door the crack is located to the right of where the two rubber window moldings join.

The outside of the driver and passenger side doors have a horizontal stress crack in the metal.this is near the area of where the rubber window molding meets. *nlm

While driving 35 mph the a frame broke, and the vehicle had no steering.

Left front crossmember developed a crack near the steering box car had clonk in front end dealer inspected and found crack - told by ford dealer that the procedure was to weld the crossmember back in place and they would warranty it for 12 mths/12000 miles (only). Vehicle is still under factory warranty (bumper to bumper) 36000 miles.ford motor company told us to follow dealer's advice..work done was shoddy...and to my knowledge welding weakens the frame...welder also made burn marks in cross member thus weakening metal more.frame should last the life of the vehicle and not crack already..or be warrantied for 12 months...need advice...feel vehicle is unsafe...have taken pictures of horrid welding job.

The vehicle veers towards the right when it's in operation.the manufacturer has been contacted. Also, replaced front left hub cap, and twist in frame.

Vehicle has been experiencing ongoing vibration problem. Whenever a right turn was made, a grinding sound would come from the wheel. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on four occasions, and problem still occurring. Asking nhtsa help in this matter.

Vibration and pulling, causing premature wear of the tires.

My tires were severely worn on the inside edges. I bought new tires and went to have the truck aligned. Virginia spring and alignment, arlington, va, 22213, informed me that my right front spring was dangerously weak and had caused the upper ball joint to become loose. They said every ford 250 diesel they see has this problem and that ford did not put strong enough springs on these trucks. Ford in fact had issued tsb-96-23-16 which called for adding a leaf to each front spring and realignment. They refuse to fix the defect in my truck because it has over 36,000 miles on it. If this spring fails, a 3/4 ton truck goes out of control.

Front end misalignment causing vehicle to vibrate and premature wear of tires. In addition, belt tensioner roller makes noise when vehicle is started, and popping noise from cab when driving over uneven surfaces due to cab mounting bolts to frame being loose.

These vehicles with the power stroke diesel engine has an independent front suspension that was underdesigned to handle the weight of the vehicle.this design does not allow the vehicle's front end alignment to stay and vehicle is always pulling.

Thier invoice states "retest ok." on august 12, 1998 vehichle was taken into landmark for poping noise in front end, and because the vehichle pulls to the left. Alighnment was off and set to speks. On september 12, 1998 vehichle was taken to landmark for poping noise in front suspension. They replaced.

My 1997 ford f250 4wd truck has developed a popping noise in the right front wheel hub area. I found the drive shaft from the front transfer case could be moved in and out of the wheel hub with a popping noise. I took it to be repaired and no one can find parts. I have looked on the internet and searched local parts stores and can't fine them either. All i find is that everyone else has had suspension problems on this model. How do i get it repaired?

Front suspension is underdesigned. Unable to support weight of powerstroke engine. Causing excessive tire wear and ball joint wear, and pulling to right

Vehicle wanders.

Since approximately 20000 miles vehicle will without warning develope an extreme shaking in the front end.vehicle will continue to violently wobble until brakes are applied and vehicle is slowed to a speed of 20-30 miles per hour.this occurs without warning at all speeds from 30 to 70 miles per hour.inspections at alingment shops, failed to reveal any failed components.a recent inspection at a ford garage also revealed no damaged components but i was informed that a technical service bulletin issued on the 1-ton 4 wheel drive was applicable to this vehicle and that pursuant to this bullitin a factory recommended fix was installed at my cost.be aware that on 2 seperate occasions i asked dealership service personnel if there was an inherrent problem with the suspension of this vehicle, both times i was told they had no such knowledge.this resulted in unneccessay expenses at alignment shops , the replacement of tires and shocks, and the continued operation of a dagerously unfit vehicle.only upon my issistance to the dealer that this vehicle could not be safely opperated was the existance of said technical service bullitin acknowledged and the factory fix installed, again at my cost.

While driving down hill left front tie rod had come off. Left front wheel almost came off, causing vehicle to shake.mechanic repaired tie rod and replaced ball joint.

Balljoints grinding, metal on metal, failure due to unserviceable type balljoints from the factory.

When driver applied the brakes the whole front end of the truck would bounce and the truck was hard to maintain. Also the front tires balded on the inside. The truck was looked at by a mechanic who stated that the ball joints were never greased by the factory. The ball joints have been replaced at owner's expense.

The front springs on this heavy duty truck began collapsing after approximately 14-months of service.the condition wears the front tires excessively and does not make the vehicle handle properly.the condition was brought to the attention of the dealership, don vance ford, marshfield,mo.and all that has been achieved is trips to the dealership and discussions with ford customer assistance.i have looked at several f250 vehicles with the 7.3 l and 460 motor packages and they are experiencing the same problem as i have.ford has obviously recognized the problem i am experiencing as the twin i-beam is no longer available on the 1999 model f250's.

When the vehicle was parked, the torsion bar snapped.

Torsion bar failure, caused sudden loss of vehicle control.

While drivingfront torsion bar broke.the dealer has been notified.

While driving at 30 mph consumer heard a loud pop at the front of the vehicle, and the front left side dropped several inches.consumer pulled over to inspect what the problem could be,and discovered thatdriver side torsion barsnapped.

Torsion bar, which controls the stability of the vehicle, sheared off, causing a loss of vehicle control. *ml

The torsion bar sheared off, causing vehicle to lose control and sway suddenly.

Torsion bar snapped with no warning.this is obviously a manufacturer defect, yet was not covered under extended warranty.i had to pay for towing and rental car while my truck was disabled. I think ford should cover this repair as the part was defective.

Both these retaining bolts failed. In the first instance i noticed a bolt hanging down from the front end on the passenger side. I do not know when the failure occurred. In the second instance, the shop owner noticed the driver's side bolt was missing. He commented that he looks for this item on ford f150 and f250 units. He has had vehicles come in with both bolts missing! ford changed the bolt mechanism retaining the stabalizer bars in this model year (1998). Their design appears faulty as the plastic retaining devices on the bolt do not appear to work properly.

While driving on wet pavement at any speed and applying brakes, the brake's felt like they were not working and would lock up. Also, the rear end of the vehicle would come out from behind.

Rear end suspension slip disk failed.yh

First air spring on drivers side blew last summer and was replaced. The other one, passenger side, blew last friday. Both failures occurred with truck camper on board, but vehicle was not over loaded. Failures were explosive, resulting in vehicle lowing suddenly on the side affected. Vehicle was travelling straight ahead both times, but failure on a corner could result in vehicle rolling over. Component does not appear to match the load rating of the vehicle.

Consumer noticed the left rear spring broke, causing vehicle to virbrate at any speed.

Can't get dot number, nothing left of that part of tire but ropes and fibers.no warning, no noise to indicate a blowout, just sudden loss of control as the right front tire fell apart.tread and belts all completely separated from each other, sidewalls shredded.looks like the tire perforated around entire circumference at the "beading".nothing left of sidewalls except "ropes" connecting inner rim to tread surface, can see all individual layers of tread, belts and fiber separated from each other.father states it took every bit of strength (and past racing experience of several decades ago) to maintain control of vehicle and keep it from rolling.i am keeping this tire in case anyone wants to inspect it, it looks strikingly similar to the ones involved in recall when they failed.father has never felt anything like this when it went, including when racing.have never seen a tire look like this after a blowout.the tread and belts have completely separated from each other, all the way around!it looks like it just fell apart.this is a dangerous tire. It came equipped with firestone "steeltex radial a/t lt 235 85 r16 m/s" tires.i was very careful to maintain the proper tire pressure and stay well under the rated carrying capacity at all times for safety reasons. So, in my opinion, a very carefully maintained tire (as mine was), well "underloaded"inspected immediately prior to the incident, properly inflated, worn only 60%, and subjected to no "injury"should not have failed, especially in such a dramatic/dangerous fashion, and therefore must have been defective when sold.i am asking for compensation for at least part of the cost of my new set of tires ($767.99ntbhoover, al).r craig bradley 8-10-2000( dot number: tire size: 235 85 r16 )

We brought the tire into firestone and was told that they would find a hole because these tires don't just blow. I was also told on the phone that i was very lucky that i had such a heavy duty vehicle, otherwise the vehicle would have rolled. Just appalling to hear something like that from a person that works at the firestone store. Especially because there is recalls happening now.
