Unable to turn steering wheel at low engine rpm, especially if brake is applied. This happens on a regular basis. Vehicle has been taken to dealer service for repair with no results.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 30 mph, the vehicle hit a culvert causing an accident.there was extensive damage done to the front passenger side of the vehicle. The airbags did not deploy.

I was traveling at approximately 50 mph in my ford f250 when a chevrolet minivan crossed the center line and hit me head on.the van's airbags deployed, however mine did not.ford motor company's opinion on this is they should not have gone off, but they will not inspect the vehicle.the vehicle is under factory warranty and has not been involved in any prior collisions.ford is also unwilling to provide any written documentation that the airbags are in proper working condition unless i cover all expenses incurred in such an inspection.the vehicle repair shop owner experience provides indication that the airbags in my vehicle most certainly should have deployed.this is also the opinion of the investigating state patrol officer.

Air bags failed to go off during roll over accident for ford f250 (2001 crew cab 4dr)

The truck was involved in a frontal collision while driving between 40-45 mph. The truck sustained severe front end damage.the driver side air bag failed to deploy upon impact. As a result the driver sustained injuries to his neck and back when he hit the steering wheel.*sc

I have had multiple cps failures and each time the truck died while i was driving losing power steering brakes etc.it is very dangerous and a new part should be deisgned.the part number is f7tz-12k073-a.i have replaced this sensor mutliple times and every time it is replaced the engine starts right back up.

I have a 2001 ford f250, the windshield leaked causing the gem module to mal-function. This is a problem in alot of ford vehicles, not just mine. The short causes the truck to miss, stall, a lot of electrical problems result.

Complete power failure at speeds under 55 has happened 4 times. Two times on a cover causing power steering falure - was unable to recover and went off the road. Veh will start right after

Driving along busy road way running fine, then the motor just shut down. Left stranded right in the middle of the road.could not be restarted, truck was towed to garage.cam shaft senor replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd.when the gear shifter is used, it causes the accelerator pedal fuse to blow.smoke appeared out of the steering column.the contact believes that the failure was due to burned wires and all of the issues were connected to the steering column electrical system.he believes that the wires were burned in the steering column.the tow package burned and the right turn signal and brake lights no longer work.all of the doors appeared to be short and do not close or open properly.in addition, the overdrive failed on the steering column.when the contact presses the button, nothing happens.the dealer stated that the vehicle was not under warranty and does not have any safety recalls that apply to the vin.the contact would be responsible for the repair costs.the failure mileage was 142,000.

I shut off my truck and several components stay on, then i turned the key on and off again and they went off a few days later the same thing but the wipers did not work since i am an auto technician i looked into it at a ford dealer and found that ford has had this many times andit has been investigated by thesafety board and i am not sure where it went from there all i know is that if i loss my wipers on the highway in rain it would not be safe. I know in canada they made them call them back and fix the leaks that caused the wiper failure/gem module failure to fix it at ford would be 600.00 dollars which requires replacing the gem module and it is recommended to change the fuse panel also and to fix the leak there was a bulletin to silicone the seams which is a temporaryrepair.

While driving with my 17 month old son, my truck just quit while on the highway.no warning, no steering, no brakes, etc.would not crank immediately, took about 5-10 minutes before it started again, meanwhile i was blocking traffic and creating a life hazard to my family and other motorists.the truck would run for about 1 mile and die again, with no warning and in traffic.the problem was a cam sensor part css1603. This failure could easily cause an accident and needs to be recalled immediately!

Truck had been parked in my driveway approximately 30 minutes when i heard a noise looked out and front of truck was engulfed in flames. No prior warning was given or noticed. Called 911, fire department arrived and extinguish the flames. Truck was totaled.

I have a 2001 f250 7.3 diesel that has stalled or died usually at low speeds while trying to stop or turn a corner.resulting in a loss of power steering and power brakes. The check engine light has never come on. I have taken it to a mechanic and was told if the check engine light was not on he could not check for a trouble code. He also said it most likely is a camshaft position sensor. I checked with ford, they want over $500.00 to replace it. The truck is now out of warranty and i don't want to spend $500.00 and that not fix the problem.

My 2001 ford f-250 was destroyed on 8/11/06 and approximately 75 acres of range land was burned when the truck caught on fire. Contents valued at $1800 were also destroyed. No one was injured.the fire started in the engine compartment when the engine was off and the key was not in the ignition.

Engine mis-fires and loses power when accelerating from stop/ going up hills, etc.this problem started, on an intermittent basis, at an odometer reading of only 9,000 miles.vehicle was brought to the dealer four times over 2 years to remedy - - could not diagnose or repair.suddenly became much worse at 48,000 miles.two ignition coils found faulty and replaced.now seeing the same problem at 51,000 miles.potential safety concern, due to hesitation/ lack of power when turning left across traffic or crossing traffic lanes.dealer and regional ford rep. Refuse to cover repairs, even though the problem was identified under warranty, but not found and fixed until out of warranty.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f250 sd. The contact stated the vehicle was parked when it caught on fire.the fire department was notified and extinguished the fire, advising that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.a fire report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the fire who advised that they would notify him within 15 days. The failure mileage was 54,000.

Traveling at normal speed.the engine would shut off, as if it had run out of fuel.. After doing this three times, ireplaced the cam shaft sensor.i have had no problem since.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd diesel. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and idle when it attempted to start independently. The keys were not in the ignition at the time of failure. The contact disconnected and recharged the battery. Once the battery was reinstalled in the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start.he then contacted several local mechanics about the failure but no one could provide an explanation of the failure. Several authorized dealers were also contacted but again they too, could not provide an explanation for the failure. The failure did not recur and the manufacturer was not contacted to report the failure. The failure and current mileage was 113,000.

Overhead console on 2001 f250 crew cab diesel went bad. Since the very start they have had trouble. I have been on the net to at least five thousand people and all of them have the message center failure. They are making a killing because before you could buy the computer.they have made it now where you have to buy the whole console. $ 300.00 is the cheapest you will find. I have multiple sclerosis and i need a compass to get around my direction is off.i would consider this negligence because they willingly and knowingly have known of this problem and have not fixed it.

Cam shaft position sensor has failed 2 different times on a 2001 powerstroke ford f250.first time while driving through a parking lot.second time on the road at highway speeds.vehicle was difficult to stop and steer due to loss of power steering and power brakes.

I recently bought a used 2001 ford f-250 with the 7.3 diesel from the local ford dealer. It had a recent computer reflash, should have told me something. Anyway the cps was bad in it. It would shut down, sometimes starting right back, sometimes after a few minutes. I got tired of the run around so i put a new cps in it myself. I have had no more problems, no thanks to ford.

2001 ford f-250 super duty pickup caught on fire due to faulty wiring.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 25 mph, there was a slight snapping noise, and all the gauges on the instrument panel fell to the lowest reading.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was not able to determine the problem.updated 9/20/2006 -

(1)event was instant without warning. Roads were ice and snow covered.(2) popping sound from engine and sudden loss in power causing minor loss in control. Speed was approx 35 mph. Engine continued to run with constant popping noise after stopped.upon pulling over and inspecting engine i found a blown spark plug and damage ignition coil.(3) initial corrective action was the purchase of replacement spark plug and ignition coil based on spark plug maintenance.further inspection revealed damage in cylinder head threads caused by poor design standards.

While drivingon a busy road the truck cut off.hard to drive a diesel when not running.managed to get off road.replaced failed cps.f7tz-12k073-a.

Vehicle was stalling without warning.this could either be at a stop or moving.after troubleshooting, i localized the problem to the camshaft position sensor.i took it to rivertown ford and asked them to please check it for cps error codes, and basically got blown off as if i did not know what i was talking about. I replaced the cps and it is no longer stalling.this is very dangerous - i nearly wrecked going around a corner at less than 35 miles per hour when it stalled and lost power brakes and power steering.

2001 ford super duty pickup with 7.3 diesel, while driving down highway the motor will stop running, which will effect the power steering as well as the brakes. I had the ford company check for the problem, it was the camshaft position sensor, after checking with other sources, this is a common occurrence which should be corrected.

Vehicle stalled multiple (20) times 30 miles from home. Restarted sucessfully each time. Drove 1/4 mile to 5 miles in between each time it stalled. Finally got home. Purchase and replace the synchronizer (cam position sensor) #f7tz-12k073-a. No failures since. Old part is available.

While out of town i had just exited the interstate when i heard a loud pop.my truck, a ford f250 with a 5.4 ltr triton v8 started running terrible and making a god awful noise.i managed to make it to a nearby parking lot.i opened the hood to find an ignition coil pack and sparkplug laying on top of the engine.i was able to reinstall the sparkplug and replaced the coil pack due (coil pack attachment ear had broken off when plug was ejected from engine.).approximately 2 weeks later my wife and kids were on their way to a local park.they had just turned off a major street when they heard a loud pop, they described as sounding like a gunshot.the same thing happened and to date i'm suprised that a fire has not occured or no serious injuries have occured. This is very danagerous the spark plug is actually ejected like a missle.

Dt:the consumer owns a 2001 ford f250 super duty. The fire started on the brake pressure switch (which is the cut off switch for the cruise control, it burned the wiring harness it burned all the way until it got into the harness, and caught the rubber boot on fire which covers the steering control. The fire was electrical related.

Consumer was traveling on highway, and there was transmission fluid leaking from under vehicle.also there was a fire under hood, in which consumer believes started with the transmission problems prior. Consumer had problems with transmission, the first dealer could not duplicate the problem, consumer decided to take the vehicle to another dealer for the second opinion, while on his way to the dealer, vehicle caught on fire.*yd

I was driving on the highway when suddenly lost power to my truck. Fortunately i was not on a long trip with my wife and kids hauling a load. I tried to contact a dealer and was told they were unable to see me after several weeks and some calls i was able to locate one to look at my truck. After i gave my approval to repair the engine the result was $13.23 in parts and $779.12 in labor. Apparently a wire harness that runs under the valve covers simply came un plugged. The dealer told me this only happens to my type of vehicle and a stand off bracket needed to be put in place. I asked why this wasn't a recall item and the lady at the counter said i should call the manufacturer.

Furthest back spark plug blew while driving my 2001 ford f250 pick-up.i only have 76100, miles on my truck the warranty just ran outthe cost of repairing this is $4300.i was told that this is a factory defect and i want this problem put on the record, so that it can be investigated.i stopped driving as soon as i heard a noise and have kept my vehicle in top shape.

2001 ford f250 crew cab spontaniously caught onfire while parked in the driveway. It was a total loss ,and serverly damaged the house and driveway. Fire crews stated the house was 2 minutes from igniting when they foamed it.

The cam positioning sensor in theford power stroke 7.3l diesel has gone out at 60,000 miles. This caused the vehicle to completely shut down. This wasnot the only truck this has happened to. Many people i knowhad this happen within the first 100,000 miles. Ford repaired the cps for $400.00at my expense. Also the o ring in the high pressure oil pump went out at 71,000 miles with no warning, causing me to dump all of the oil out. I discovered it before it caused motor problems. Ford fixed this problem for $500.00. Both problems a werevery common with the 7.3l and need to be addressed by ford. They were not ordinary problems and need some kind of attention from ford.

Vehiclewas parked for 75 minutes and a passerby noticed smoke and alerted consumer, who saw flames from left front wheel well. Fire was extinguished quickly by consumer. Damage limited to area within approximately 12 inches of brake master cylinder. Electrical connector burned offon master cylinder.consumer stated that cruise control stopped working several months prior to the fire. #13 fuse found operating.

After noticing different electrical items remaining energized after the ignition was turned off i began doing some research.what i have learned through the local ford dealer is that the windshield sealant compound used was of poor quality from the manufacturer.overtime this allows water to seep in around the front windshield and drains into the drivers side dash area.this location houses the fuse panel and gem (generic electronic module).the water that enters the fuse panel and gem causes both units to short out, and could potentially cause a fire.the early signs of a problem are the ac fan running with the ignition off, the clock on the radio flashing when it should be off (ignition off), and the electric windows, door locks, and power mirrors to work intermittently.ford dealers are very aware of this problem and state that though ford motor company admits using poor quality sealant, they refuse to fix any of the fuse boxes or gems.while inspecting the underside of my dash i have also noted that the linkage for the brakes, passing through the firewall, is extremely rusty.eventually this rust could cause an owner to experience brake failure caused by a broken linkage.

On november 20th icame hoome home from shopping around 8:30pm ,paprked in driveway ,turned truck offwent insidetool care of dogswent out t truck to get packages.came in went to bed around 10:00pm. Later that weekthe insurance man camelooked at truckand said it would probably be a total loss, which i just received a letter from ford, they can not help medeal with the insurance co.it would cost about 12,000. To fix and the book value is 23,000.but the fact is thatthe wiringfrom the 4x4 swich is what started the fire .i plan on going to ford with this being they didnt send anyone out to look at my truck but are saying they cant help me .

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 17 mph, he heard an abnormal whining sound. The contact stopped the vehicle and upon inspection, noticed that the spark plugs had blown from the cylinder head. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 157,000.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, he heard a loud noise as the vehicle began to lose power. Upon further investigation he noticed that a spark plug had been expelled from the engine at a high rate of speed. He could also smell gasoline on the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that there was not enough thread in the aluminum head to hold the spark plug. A heli coil was needed in order to add more threads. The contact stated that it was the second recurrence of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 110,000. Updated 10/17/13*ljthe consumer has since sold the vehicle. Updated 10/22/13

5.4 motor spark plugs keep blowing out. This is a problem with the older ones and newer ones as well ford should make it right with the consumers

Driving out of state for work and spark plug blew out of my engine.and from that results it cost me quiet a bit of extra money that i didn't have to spend and missed a days trying to get that problem fixed. And it ruin my fathers day weekend i wanted to spend with my kid.

Spark plug blew out.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, the vehicle started to exhibit an abnormal stuttering noise and the contact noticed that the exhaust manifold was leaking. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 72,000.

The 2001 f250 i own has always stalled at any given time. Ford recalled the cam position sensor, i had already changed it just before recall then they did again. That never stopped it from stalling, it also doesn't read when you sometimes go to take off. I've changed (throttle switch) that did nothing. All of its mishaps has cased thousands of dollars in repair. Always broke down and can't make money when it's impossible to drive truck time after time. I have been in several close call accidents, when i lose powersteering and almost have crashed into cars. I figured out the fuel tank flaking off inside the tank could be the cause. The truck gets terrible fuel mileage when this happens costing a fortune in wasted diesel fumes. That have been know to cause brain cancer, also the amount of pollution from not running proper.i am no fan of ford's repair shop when they tell you in 1983 to my father that his almost brand new diesel needs new (spark plugs) when diesel do not even have them. I own this 2001 diesel for a long time now for a landscaping and snowplowing that is out of business. It is embarrassing for it to stall, rev up slipping transmission, harming whole drive train. Never knowing when i'm could be stranded in northern michigan. I have had one thing after another with the ford i own. I have seen a lot of same problems people are complaining about. Sounds like ford has done good at covering up problem by not telling us if they knew. I thought the fuel problem came from gas stations. Only thing helped me was mostly same newer station, and tried to keep it full helped. Can anyone help, these are dangerous situations when lives depend on them. I'm not sure what to do with the truck, i'd like to see it go to scrap at this time. With 277,000 not even rusted out much.it needs whole drive train again, i don't want the oily leaking, polluting junk on the road.

I have experienced 2 spark plug blow outs on my ford f250 with a 5.4l engine leaving me stranded out of state twice.i live in ohio and i had my first spark plug blow out in w virginia while en route to s carolina for vacation.the second incident was last year in pennsylvania.now i have another plug about to blow out!

I own a 2001 ford f 250 super dutywith a 6.8 liter v10 this is the second time now that it has blown out a sparkplug while driving down the road at a high speed they were not the same plug and they are original motorcraft plugs .both times you smell alot of gas that could cause a fire.

On the way to work today, my 2001 ford f-250 blew a spark plug.when this happened, i called a mechanically inclined friend to get his first impression (to avoid being ripped off by the dealership) and he could not fathom it.i thought it strange that when i called a dealerships service department, the technician identified the problem immediately from the sound he heard over the cell phone.i had never heard of such a problem before, so i decided to look it up on the internet and am appalled at how often this has happened to other people and the potential fire risk.this is too common, too expensive to repair, and sounds as if a better head design could completely alleviate the problem.something should be done before a fire kills someone.

Ford f250 with a v10 engine. Spark plug blew out.

In late december 2008 i had all my spark plugs replaced by 1st choice automotive. By the end of january 2009 one of the sparks plugs shot out of the engine. They came and towed my truck to their shop and put in a helicoil. Once again at beginning of march the same spark plug shot out. The shop tells me that ford has a service bulletin on it. The bulletin says to replace the cylinder head. I called al packer ford to confirm what first choice automotive. They said ford does have a service bulletin on this defect and agreed along with the shop that i should replace my cylinder head. I feel that if ford knows that they are having a problem with these cylinder heads then they should repair it. I should not have to pay to fix a problem that they already know about. Any help you can give is appreciated.

My ford truck started making a clicking noise from the engine compartment.then approximately 2 weeks later while driving down the highway at 65mph there was a loud pop and then a loud exhaust sound.the engine threw the number 3 spark plug on the passenger side.it was fixed with an insert but blew the insert out a month later.has not been fixed yet after the second one.

Rotting oil pan.

On sunday, august 14, 2008 i was driving my 2001 ford f-250 with a 5.4 liter engine and i heard a loud pop which was followed by a loss of power and a noise that sounded like a large exhaust leak. When i opened the hood i noticed one of the spark plugs had blown out of the head and had broken the coil, ripped the spark plug boot and stripped the head. This is the second time in 1 1/2 years that i have had a spark plug blow out of the head. (these were two different spark plugs). This is a costly repair and many others have had the same problem.i contacted ford and they told me there was nothing they could do to help me and then tried to sell me a new vehicle instead of fixing the one i have.

I own a 2001 ford f250 super duty with a 5.4l triton v-8 engine, automatic transmission, 2wd, 137 inch wheelbase, standard emission, with no aftermarket modifications and approximately 114,000 miles.i was driving at approximately 60mph when i heard a loud bang from under the hood, the engine lost power and sounded like the exhaust had come off the engine.upon inspection, i discovered that the number 8 spark plug had blown completely out of the engine and damaged the ignition coil.the threads where the spark plug screw into the head were damaged, but repairable.i replaced the spark plug and coil.even though there was no fire or injury in my particular case, the possibility for such is likely if this problem is systemic.when the spark plug blows out of the cylinder head, it can be done with a lot of force, which could cause injury/death, depending upon the proximity of people at the time.also, when a spark plug comes out of the cylinder head, gas fumes released may become ignited by sparks from the coil or spark plug wires, resulting in a engine compartment fire.the old parts are available for inspection if necessary.

Dt:the consumer stated that the motor stalled without warning while driving.there was acomplete power failure.the consumer contacted the manufacturer and was told that this problem was not covered under warranty.the first time the vehicle was taken to dealership, the cam sensor was replaced.the vehicle only had 44, 000 miles on it.the second time this happened, the vehicle had 88, 000 miles.the cam sensor was replaced again.(12/08/05)the consumer stated that this vehicle is driven daily towing over 14k lbs.the dealer is aware of this problem.*sc

I have a 2001 ford f250 with a 6.8l v10. It has 149,489 miles on it. I am no shade tree mechanic, i have rebuilt engines, transmissions and trouble shoot cpu?s . I was driving down the road and came to a traffic light then made a right hand turn. As soon as i made the turn the #4 spark plug blew out. My father has a 2002 f250 with the 6.8l v10 and his blew out the #1 and about 300 miles later it blew out the #5 plug. It caught on fire when it blew out the #5. This is not right!! there have been to many complaints about these trucks with the same problem. The cause is not due to incorrect torque on the plug. But due to a combination of two things, 1. The amount of threads that hold the plug in place.2 the amount of compression that the engine produces.

Pin size hole in right side of engine block.

Spark plug blow out of the cylinder head.

Sounded like manifold leakspark plug ejection.

I was driving home friday january8th at 7:30 pm when my spark plug blew out of motor while driving, shooting fuel out of cylinder as coil was still connected and arcing on motor.i lost power and had to get to side of roadi could not fix because threads of cylinder head were damaged when blowout occurred.fortunatly this happened within a couple mile of my home, if this were to occur on highway with traffic around the loss of power and potential for fire would have been very dangerous!

Sept. 07; my ford 01 f250t. Cab 4+4 with the 5.4 l triton motor, blew out of the engine cylinder head its first of 3 spark plugs, on july 4th 09 it blew out 2 more; i had just gotten one fixed and picked up my truck and did not make it out of the parking lot. When the first one blew i was coming down a steep hill with a pop-up trailer in tow, i had my family with me, wife and 2girls age 6 and 8. When it blew it sounded like a cannon under the hood, i almost lost control, after a 4 hr. Wait for a tow truck and a couple days at the dealer, and 600.00 later, i got my truck back, no further problems til 7-4-09 when 2 more blew.. I have went online and there are several stories about this happening to this motor and two other models, ages between '99 and '04. The problem is that ford engineers did not put enough threads in their "aluminum head" only 3 threads and the spark plug has about 12. The other thing that happens when the spark plug blows out it takes the coil pack which is mounted directly above the plug another 100.00 to the equation. I talked to ford but they do not care, they would not even help me out with the labor to fix the problem which entails drilling out all the remaining cylinders and inserting heli-coils, at the tune of 1350.00 at the dealer. This is a very prevalent problem, and i can not believe there has not been a re-call....

6 months ago my ford f-250 super duty crew cab v-10 blew out the 3rd spark plug back on the passenger's side.after reading about many other people having the same problem i went to my ford dealer who told me it happens on these engines but there isn't any recall nor would they pay for the repair.today the second plug back on the passenger side blew out.i smelled a strong gas odor and feel lucky not to have had a fire either time.now do i have ford repair this one and just wait for the other 8 to blow?ford needs to resolve this issue!

I have a 2001 ford f-250 with the triton 5.4l v8. The problem i have is the spark plugs blowing out i have had 3 total sense march. The first one happened at about 120,000 miles in march there is a slight "ticking" noise that comes from the engine then the boom from the spark plug blowing out with a sudden loss of power. The 1st to go was the number 7cylinder followed by number 1 and finally number 3 cylinders. The second and third happened about 200 miles from each other at the 143,000 mile mark this weekend. Friday august 29 the second one blew out on the interstate going normal speed with no indication of a problem. The truck was towed to wade ford in smyrna to be repaired. The truck was repaired with in several hours and i was on the road again $750 later. I was headed to florida at the time and still made the trip. On sunday the 31st the third plug blew out leaving me on the side of the road in alabama, again with no indication of a problem. This seems to be a repetitive problem that i have had, the truck has not been abused and has had regular maintenance. The engine has never been stressed or strained as tends to happen with superduty trucks. I have read a lot on the internet of the problem affecting many others around the country, many with the same order of plugs "blowing-out". The dealership does not seem to recognize the problem, and say they have never seen it happen.this is a ford problem that they are not dong anything about. Its a costly problem for the owners for a problem that they can not see coming or prevent. Is there anything that can be done?

(1)event was instant without warning. Roads were ice and snow covered.(2) popping sound from engine and sudden loss in power causing minor loss in control. Speed was approx 35 mph. Engine continued to run with constant popping noise after stopped.upon pulling over and inspecting engine i found a blown spark plug and damage ignition coil.(3) initial corrective action was the purchase of replacement spark plug and ignition coil based on spark plug maintenance.further inspection revealed damage in cylinder head threads caused by poor design standards.

A spark plug just blew out of my cylinder head on my f-250 pick up truck.it is completely wrong for a plug just to let go out of the head this way.it could have cause a fire or a wreck.

When i started my vehicle the #1 plug ejected from my ford 5.4 engine.the plug broke the coil and struck the fuel rail putting a dent in it and partially dislodge it. This is my first ejection. My shop replaced thethreads in the head, installed a new spark plug and coil, then they straighten up everything.i am now scared to drive it as i am 70 years old and had planned to travel.

When driving at normal speeds in a 2001 f-250 sd 5.4 liter, slowed to make a stop and then proceeded on and there was a loud pop and the truck started running rough and making a lot of noise from under the hood. It turned out that a spark plug had blown out of the cylinder wall causing the noise and rough running. These plugs had just bee replaced about 1 year ago. The truck had to be towed to a repair shop almost 100 miles to be repaired. From what i understand from my mechanic this is an ongoing problem with this engine.

I have a 2001 ford f-250 with a triton v10 engine when i was driving i had a spark plug blow out of the engine block and was laying on top of the engine sparking. I have sent an email to ford and when they replied to me they said that there was nothing that they could do about it and that it was not a safety issue. Well i my self feel that it is a safety issue when there is an open spark on top of the engine sparking next to the fuel line.i have done research on this topic for a long time hoping that it would not happen to me well it has happened and i am afraid to drive my truck now that i see that there is a spark next to a fuel line. Ii really hope that people will not have to die from this defective aluminum head that ford uses on these engines to prove that it is truly a safety issue. Not to mention that there are ford owners all around the world that are having to pay thousands of dollars to fix something that is not at all their fault.

Spark plugs blown out of engines 2001 ford f- 250 . Both side of the engine.

I heard a noise like a loose rocker arm and took it to a mechanic and was told not to worry.then at the bank the noise changed and quit "ticking" and by the time i pulled out of the line i heard a loud "pop" and then a continual popping noise, after i got pulled over i checked under the hood and the spark plug closest to the drivers seat was out.with fuel coming out and a spark plug firing on the motor, i am amazed it did not catch fire.

Faulty cylinder head on a 6.8l v-10 2001 f-250. Head blew and it started to sound like a riding lawn mower. I am a 3rd generation ford owner, if ford wants to be ford tough then they need to fix ford defect no need for a truck that hasn't pulled a heavy load to have such a fubar engine defect. Makes me want to switch to foreign truck>.

We have a f250 2001 v10 pickup that has had 2 spark plug ejection from the drivers side head of the engine. This we were told by the mechanics at our local ford dealer shop at our 2 diff ford dealers is inherent in all triton motors. This head problem should be aa safety recall. When the second one happened we were 200 miles from home and had to smell gas fumes for 200 miles to get it back to the dealer to get it repaired. Luckily the spark plug had been ejected from the coil assembly if it had stayed on it would have started a fire. There is a serious defect in the cylinder head and from the many mechanics that i have spoken to they all state it is from only 2 or 3 threads per spark plug holding the plugs in place. Please recall all trition motors to have this taken care of.

We have a 2001 ford f250 sd, 5.4 liter triton v8. There was an awful ticking noise for a few weeks and on monday, july 4th, while restarting the truck it made a huge pop noise followed by a very loud tick that sounded like an exhaust leak. It was so loud that my 2 year old son was scared. After contacting ford and many auto shops we learned this will cost us over 500 dollars and that they have serviced over 10 vehicles in the last month with the same problem!! what? and after research have noticed that there have been complaints dating back to 2006 and no recourse by owners!what? this safety issue needs to be fixed! it is so dangerous. We are repairing our vehicle using the mechanic that ford recommended, he will be changing the coil and adding pins to it to ensure that it won't happen again for that plug, but the others...keeping our fingers crossed that nothing else happens before ford gets their stuff together and fixes this!!

Saw anti-freeze leaking, took vehicle, which is a 2001 ford f250 sd, to the dealer.had pressure test done of cooling system, found was a broken hose clamp, dealer changed all four hose clamps.vehicle has 22,000 miles.

Ford f250 tryton v-8 blown plugs on interstate 80 miles from home. Ford dealer says the just issued a service bulletin concerning this but are of no help. The heads must be removed and repaired with helicoil kits @ upwards of 800.00 or more. Please require a recall !!!!!

On vacation in maine with my 2001 ford f250 super duty i was driving down a very narrow, heavily wooded two lane road at about 20 mph, suddenly and without warning a loud bang under the hood occurred. Difficult to pull over safely and investigate. I had to drive several hundred feet to try to get on a straight away for safety. There were several log trucks that had to pass as well as other traffic. I discovered that the #6 spark plug had "blown out" of its hole and destroyed the threads, coil pack, and spark plug. After getting the truck to a repair facility the owner/mechanic informed me that this 5.4l triton engine does this all the time. He informed me that he repairs two or three of these a week, in fact there is a "repair kit" available from most auto part stores. Doing some research after getting home i discovered that this is a chronic ford problem that they refuse to address. I will be selling this truck because it is a huge safety issue for me. I don't need to be stranded on back country roads or interstates with any of the other 7 spark plugs ready to launch from my engine without warning or cause.

I have a 2001 ford f250 super duty truck with the 7.3l diesel engine, i had to have the camshaft sensor replaced at my own expense at the local ford dealership at a cost of nearly $1,100.00.when the recall notice came in the mail, i called and made appointment to have it checked and sure enough the new camshaft sensor was the correct one.the ford motor company dealer only issued me a $300.00 refund.what is right about that.

I too have a 2001 f-250 with the triton v-10 that had a plug blow from the cylinder. It destroyed the cylinder threads as well as the solenoid. Ford is obviously aware of this problem as they have available a repair kit.

Ford needs to do a recall on the cam position sensor.if this part fails on the super duty diesel at highways speeds, a crash could occur resulting in serious injury or death to the occupants of the vehicle or any other vehicle that the super duty may come in contact with.i was driving at 75 mph when the engine suddenly died due to cps failure.the truck slowed so fast i almost hit the windshield. The engine wouldn't restart. Other motorist saw me in trouble and let me pull to the right shoulder. Steering the truck required "superman" strength.i scrapped my truck against the guard rail.fortunately i wasn't towing 6,000 lb like i normally do at that time. Now i keep a spare cps and a 10 mm socket in my truck.

Spark plugs blowing out of cyclinder head.

The engine blew out another spark plug! this is a major design defect!ford said the plugs blow out due to improper torque of the spark plugs. Which is impossible since i used the ford required torque on my spark plugs and i used anti seize on the plugs threads! this is a ongoing problem! i know a person that has only 50k on there 5.4 engine and the factory installed plugs and those blew out too!! ford needs to recall these engines and correct the problem. I pulled both of the heads off my f-250 and had stainless steel threaded sleeves installed at the machine shop ! hope this takes care of the problem! i don't trust the trucks engine design for a long trip or even take it on vacation! i am worried the spark plugs will blow out while i am on the highway or out off town! please help us to get ford to recallthis problem as soon as possible please!!!!! i have had 3 other plugs blow out before this ! to do this type of repair is very expensive and unnecessary! but must be done to fix the problem i hope! this is a major design defect and ford should be made to correct it! we paid hard earned money for these vehicles and should not have to deal with this type of repair over and over !! i'll never buy another ford if ford does nothing regarding the spark plugs! i am a certified mechanic and i have never seen any other type of engine have this problem ! please help ! this problem is not even covered under the extended warranty !!!this is very bad for ford!!! they have nice vehicles but bad engine heads !!!

Spark plug popped out of engine.once i checked the engine i found that the same thing had occurred on the direct opposite cylinder before.

Engine has begun to idle at very low rpm's, to the point where it has to be driven with brake and gas pedal both being depressed to stop or slowing down.the rpm's have dropped to 400 at idle speed.the vehicle works perfectly fine at 600 and above without missing or hesitation, but when coming to a stop or slowing down, and the rpm's drop below 600, the engine will shut off.the problem or potential hazard is that the power steering disables and brakes are very hard and this being a very big and heavy truck, it turns into a moving headache.my vehicle is a 2001 f-250 super duty, crew cab, long wheelbase, v-10.it currently has 48,000 miles on it.the problem first occurred at about 38,000 miles at would do it on occasion, but since achieving 43,000 mile mark, it appears to be happening with more frequency. *ph

My husband and i have a ford f-250 v10 2001.at 62000 miles, the engine began to make an incredible noise in the lower end. We immediately went to the ford dealership and were told that we need to replace the long block.since we are 12000 miles over warranty, we would need to come up with $5700 plus labor.i have seen numerous sites where people are having problems with their v10 and ford will replace the entire engine, if under warranty.ford recalled and replaced our transmission last year, but it did not help with the engine.please help us, i know 10 other people with the same problem, we are all frustrated and unable to drive our vehicles.*la

While driving home with 4 kids in our family f250 ford pick up truck a loud noise, which sounded like gunfire, came from the truck. I stopped as fast as i could and had all of my kids run for safety. I called my brother n law and was screaming hysterically that i thought someone had been shooting at me.he started laughing at me and was quite familiar with what was going on because this was a common thing with ford.the spark plug actually blew out of the head. I contacted ford and they just brushed me off, this is a very serious problem that spark plug could of came through the windshield and killed one of my kids something needs to be done.

I own a ford f 250 super duty pickup with the 5.4l motor and while driving, the spark plug on the passenger side, #3, blew out of the socket area. I was forced to have a ford dealership repair the problem and now have had a second, follow up incident, with the same cylinder, resulting from the original repair. I understand that this has been an ongoing problem with these motors (among other chronic problems) and noticed that california is now paving they way to some sort of compensation. The dealer even told me that this has happened in other trucks. After researching the issue, i have found that it is fairly widespread. I would like to be included in any action on behalf of vehicle owners that would eliminate the issue and refund monies spent on repairs.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd.while driving 50 mph, the vehicle powered down and stopped operating without warning. The dealer stated that the cam sensor failed (part #: f71z-12k073-a).the dealer installed a new cam sensor.the component failed four more times.there was a nhtsa investigation (action #: pe06011) that was closed with no recall.the current mileage was 98,000 and failure mileage was 300.

2001 ford f-250 sd 6.8l v-10, spark plug on the number eight cylinder blew out of the head while driving at approx. 15-20 mph. The threads on the cylinder head are non-existent at this point, the coil was destroyed, and the vehicle is undrivable. After researching, i have found this to be a known problem on several models from ford. The vehicle is currently awaiting inspection and repair by a local ford dealership. I have been told by the service writer that it is a known problem, but that ford will not provide a covered repair. I have been told that if the head is repairable without removal from the vehicle, the cost will be approx. $750.00 with no guarantee that it will not re-occur. If the cylinder head must be removed, the cost is between three and four thousand dollars. I will be retaining the old parts.

I was in my ford f250 v10 triton sitting idle at a red light when i heard a loud pop under my hood which was followed by a steam engine sound when i accelerated. Had it towed to a mechanic and found that my factory spark plug had blown out of the head. The mechanic told me this happens often with ford triton motors. The mechanic used a helicoil type tooling to retap the hold and fit a collar in it that would accept a new spark plug. The cost was about $300 but the fact that this happens so often for this particular manufacturer seems to me that they should bare the cost for each occurrence.

Spark plug ejected from the motor while driving. Blew out the coil and stripped the threads. 5.4 liter triton engine with 122,000 miles.

Spark plug blew out of my 6.8l v-10 ford f-250. Caused extensive damage and small fire.

Service light comes on indicating a failure in the engine when a load is being pulled by the truck.manufacturer is aware of the failure, but dosen't have asolution at this time.

My 2001 f250 with 5.4l triton engine has blown out 4 spark plugs over the last year.each repair has been around $600. This has to be a defect.ford didn't advise me that this was a common issue.had i known, i would have put in a different motor or heads as i have spent that much in repairs and towing.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd.the contact stated that while accelerating from a stop, smoke was seen coming from under the front hood of the vehicle.the dealer diagnosed that the spark plug had separated from the engine.the dealer replaced the engine numerous times, but the failure continuously recurred.the manufacturer was notified, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was repaired.the failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 103,000. Spark plugblew out of engine 5.4 triton ford sd 250 200.

I own a 2001 ford f-250 pick up with a 5.4 liter engine. The spark plug blew out the first time in the summer of 2008. Then again in august of 2009. The first time it was repaired with the helicoil repair kit as suggested by ford. This time, there was no option but replacing the head or the entire engine. This is a serious and very expensive problem. And seems to be too common. After some research over 17,000 vehicles have had this same problem, i believe this is a good reason to recall these vehicles. This is ridiculous. Ford is of no help on what to do the second time this happens but they will throw a $3000.00 repair bill at you.

While driving my 2001 ford f250 5.4 l v8 engine powered truck the second (2nd) spark plug on the passenger side of the engine blew out (was ejected) from the head. This was an original spark plug on the 2001 f250 truck with 75300 original miles on it.

My 2001 f 250 super duty pick up with a 5.4 motor spit out the number 3 spark plug. It caused me to have my vehicle towed, the # 3 coil pact replaced along with all the spark plugs and the coil pact boots. I heard a loud pop which caused me to pull over immediately , it sounded like a real bad exhaust leak. I have never had anything like this happen to me in 28 years of driving and working on vehicles. The dealer have to put in a heli coil and replace parts as stated.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that there was a significant amount of oil leakingfrommultiple locations in the oil pan . The dealer was contacted and stated that the oil pan was covered withrust and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired at the owners expense. The failure mileage was 157000 and the current mileage was 157752.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f250 super duty.the contact stated that the module that controls the fuel injectors has failed.the manufacturer stated that they needed to be replaced.the vehicle has experienced major issues with the camshaft sensor and the manufacturer will not assist.the failure mileage was 60,174.

We have a 2001 ford f-250 sd truck that has had 3-4 transmission failures since we have owned it.the transmission deteriorates 3-4 months after the warranty expires.on monday, may 29, 2006 we were in a hay field picking up hay when the transmission exploded and caught fire with no warning.

Drive a 2001 ford f250 4wd stretch cab pickup with a 7.3l diesel engine. It is used primarily for towing a travel trailer. The truck is well maintained and has just over 55,000 miles on it. Recently on a trip to nevada, without our travel trailer, the truck acted as if it were not getting adequate fuel 3 times and the engine shut off completely twice. All of this on a busy interstate highway. Fortunately, when it shut off i was able to kick it into neutral and restart the engine. When i took the truck to my dealer a part was replaced and i was told that my problem was not uncommon with this diesel engine. Part replaced was a camshaft sensor. Don't know what happened to the defective part. Cost of repair - parts and labor - $261.71 - partly covered by an extended warranty that i had in place. Anyway, had no prior warning of this tendency and the timing of the stalling and shut downs was scary and dangerous. I consider my wife and i to be extremely fortunate and we are glad that we were not towing our travel trailer at the time of the failures.

Traveling at normal speed.the engine would shut off, as if it had run out of fuel.. After doing this three times, ireplaced the cam shaft sensor.i have had no problem since.

Cam position sensor failure, intermittent stalling loss of steering and brakes.

The "cam position sensor"( cps ) on 2001 ford 7.3l diesel failed. This can cause loss of control as the engine dies thus leaving no power steering or brakes.

1.1 million ford 7.3l turbo diesels recalled under ford recall 07s57 for model years 1997-2003 for camshaft position sensor problem which causes engine to cut off while running; however when i take my 2001 f250 diesel in with same engine exhibits same problems; ford dealer told me my truck wasn't covered by the recall because of the "color" of the sensor that was in my truck. I had it repaired anyhow becausei have been experiencing the problem for 8-10 months and have been extremely cautious when using the truck crossing intersections and the like due to the engine cutting out. I think it ridiculous that they restrict the recall even though mine exhibits the identical symptoms. While an inexpensive repair, i doubt i shall buy another ford truck now after having owned 3 of them in the past.

I have had to replace 4 cam position sensors in my 2001 ford f250.all of the sensors failed while driving which created a dangerous situation becausewhen they die the vehicle acts as if the key has been turned off which means you lose everything including power steering and power brakes.i feel very lucky that nobody was injured and also lucky that i was not pulling a trailer at the time.

2001 7.3 powerstroke intermittently stalls. This going to get someone killed. I have been told that this is a problem with the cps. When the engine stall i have no control over the f250 sd crewcab can't turn can't stop until i restart the engine. I replace the cps and this has stopped for now until this cps fails.

Driving along busy road way running fine, then the motor just shut down. Left stranded right in the middle of the road.could not be restarted, truck was towed to garage.cam shaft senor replaced.

I have a 2001 ford f250 super duty with a 7.3l powerstroke diesel engine. Over the last 18 months i have had no less than 4 cam positioning sensors fail. On two of these occasions the part failed slowly causing intermittent engine problems.the truck would run rough and loose all power.on the two remaining occasions the part failed immediately and put my life in immediate danger.on one of these failures i was towing a 12,000 lb fifth wheel trailer, on the interstate at 65 mph.my engine stalled (stopped running completely)with no warning and left me with no power brakes and no power steering.the only thing that saved me was the location of the incident.it happened on a long straight away.if it had happened in the mountains, on a hill or on a curve i would have surely crashed.the second failure occurred just before a stop light.my truck was only going about 30 mph but the engine stalled, once again without warning, just as a light turned red.i was unable to stop in time and narrowly avoided an accident as the oncoming traffic just missed me. After the incident on the highway i was able to restart the truck and limp it home.after the second incident i was unable to restart the truck and had to tow it. I bought my truck used, with 52,000 miles in oct of 2003. My first failure did not take place until november 2004.with in 6 months of replacing the part with a ford factory part the second unit failed.within 6 weeks of that parts installation it failed again.then in january of this year i replaced the unit with a new part from international when it began to intermittently fail.this part was on the truck for less than 4 weeks and less than 2000 miles before it failed this past weekend.i now have a brand new factory unit in place and constantly worry about towing or driving with my family. Each replacement part has costs more than125$ with one as much as $185.on one occasion i had to pay a 50$ tow bill.

Cam position sensor failed on my 2001 ford f-250 7.3l diesel while driving on i-495 in va. Failure was without warning which caused the engine to immediately shut down, thus causing severely reduced steering and braking.

Having just replaced the cps on my 2001 ford f-250 psd at the ford dealer at around 29,000 miles, the family and i departed on vacation to a lake in central oregon pulling a 24ft travel trailer (7000 lbs).arriving to the lake requires a steep decent into a canyon, rock wall on one side and shear dropoff on the other.at the beginning of the decent my truck just died, brakes and steering began to fail (no pressures), white knuckle is putting it lightly, i ended up turning over the stater frequently to get pressures back to the pumps to keep the truck under contol.once at the bottom of the canyon we stopped and i cycled the ignition switch it stated right up, no problems for the rest of the trip.i had numerous failures since then and have replaced the cps myself with good results until just recently with failures occurring again.

2001 ford super duty pickup with 7.3 diesel, while driving down highway the motor will stop running, which will effect the power steering as well as the brakes. I had the ford company check for the problem, it was the camshaft position sensor, after checking with other sources, this is a common occurrence which should be corrected.

Concerning: 2001 ford f-250 7.3 diesel.ford has pattern cam position sensor failure that causes engine to shut off while traveling at speed.this results in loss of brakes and steering.the cam position sensor in my truck failed with 75,00 miles. Ford is aware of this problem but has done nothing to rectify the cause of thefailure.when the engine shuts down without warning. It's very unnerving and unsafe. Driving on a crowded roadway/freeway with sudden engine shutdown and loss of power, brakes, and steering is flat out scary and dangerous.

Cam shaft position sensor has failed 2 different times on a 2001 powerstroke ford f250.first time while driving through a parking lot.second time on the road at highway speeds.vehicle was difficult to stop and steer due to loss of power steering and power brakes.

My 2001 f-250 diesel will sometimes stall at traffic signals with the left turn signal on.it did it 3 times today (june 22, 2006)it has approx 106,000 miles on it.

2001 f250 diesel stalled without warning today. It did restart, then stalled again. Then restarted and stalled a third time. I'm attempting to drive it to the ford dealership tomorrow. I understand there has been similar recall on a later model. The vehicle did seem to hesitate several times yesterday but did not stall.

The cylinder head in my 2001 ford f-250 super duty truck blew out a spark plug.the dealer has quoted a $3,000 repair.the repair requires replacement of the drivers side cylinder head.research of this problem indicates that ford has been having problems with cylinder head failures in the 5.4 liter triton v-8 motor.the apparent cause is due to the number of screw threads available to contain the spark plug.this cylinder head spark plug ports have 4 to five threads available to engage the plug, which is about half of what one would normally expect to find.spark plugs blowing out of a cylinder head are rare or so i thought.there are numerous posts on line of people who have had the same thing happen, on various ford products which use the triton v-8 motor.the mileage at which failure occurs is varied.the dealer informs me that i have no recourse with ford, since my vehicle is out of warranty.

Driving on the road, and this god awful loud noise from under the hood. According to the dealer a spark plug blew out of the head. The correction was to replace the entire head, the patch fix would have cost 1,000.00, but with no warranty. I have a friend who works at ford in michigan and this is why i am in touch with you people.nhtsa action #dpo5005 addresses the problem about the aluminum heads and the problems with plugs ejecting from the heads.the dealer has done all the work on this truck, and this repair was 3,509.80. Ford should step up to the plate , an agree there has been a problem.if this week the other side goes that will be 7,000.00 and not even a new engine, just 2 heads if nothing else happens.

The # 7 spark plug blew out of my 2001 ford f250 super duty (5.4l engine). It cost $1761.61 from the dealership to fix this problem. The plugs were original from the factory.there was 74254 miles on the vehicle and ford does not recommend plugs until 100,000 mi. Further research has shown that this seems to be a very common problem with this engine and ford dealership claims they do not know anything about it.i contacted ford motor co. And got a similar response.this can be a life threatening problem if the plug damages the fuel lines and starts a fire.i was lucky to not have this happen this time, but i have at least 7 more chances for this to occur. Ford needs to be held liable for this problem.please help!!i see by the next questions that a death might get results.i hope this is not the case.

My vehicle is equipped with the 6.8 liter v-10 the engine keeps blowing the spark plugs out of the top of the motor when this occurs raw gas escapes through the hole all over the engine until you can pull over and shut the vehicle off all though it is not much gas it is still very flammable and could result in a fire and possibly causing you to loss control and crash.

My 2001 ford f-250 super duty ejected a spark plug out of the # 8 cylinder.

Within 6000 miles of tune-up from ford dealership in salem, va. A spark plug on passenger side 3rd back came out of head of engine causing loud noises and damage to head , was taken to garage and was told by them and numerous other garages i called that it would cost 800.00 plus if was fixed on vehicle by tool from snap-on and no guarantee , to 2000.00 plus dollars for head to be taken off vehicle and still no guarantee because of aluminum heads on a 2001 f-250 super duty truck and i am on a fixed income and according to other garages this is an ongoing problem with ford trucks with 5.4 liter motors.

Spark plug (#3) blown out of a 5.4 l v8 triton ford engine. 2,000.00 miles past warranty(100,000) has already cost 1,450 and truck is still broken down. Ford recommending an engine tear down which will most likely cost more than the truck's worth. I am noticing that this is a very common ford problem, i am wondering why the aluminum head hasn't been recalled? the explosion from the ejecting spark plug has damaged the #3 cylinder and my engine might need to be rebuilt or replaced. This as we know is very costly and when the vehicle is only worth 10k for trade in, running it is hard to know what to do. I hope this makes its way to someone who can change something because it appears to be a common and pricey problem.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving various speeds, the engine stalled without warning.afterwards, the engine restarted without incident.the vehicle was seen by a dealer for inspection who determined the crankcam sensor needed to be replaced.

I purchased a new ford f250 super duty truck in may, 2001.i almost immediately smelled exhaust fumes coming from underneath the front of the truck- fumes which smell much like that of a lawn mower.the exhaust coming from the end of the tailpipe did not have this smell. After 6 months, i brought the truck back to the service department in my place of purchase, bill marsh ford in newtown, pa.the shop foreman denied smelling any fumes and, without having looked underneath at the exhaust system, stated that there was nothing wrong with my truck.a year later i returned for the same problem.i had him document this visit, but not the first one.their consensus remained the same.for the first time the other day, i crawled under my truck while it was running, seeking an exhaust leak.and that's exactly what i found.recently, my truck's warranty has expired and i still have this problem.today, bill marsh ford service has looked at the problem based on what i found.i now have an appointment with them to have the defective part of the exhaust system replaced.while it is one thing to have to pay for something that they could have fixed when it was new, or that should have been put together right and tested at the factory, i have a bigger concern.i feel this is a safety hazard, since the exhaust fumes come into the truck through open windows and the vents.it is also an environmental issue since the leak is in front of the catalytic converter.i cannot see how i was allowed to drive under these conditions after i reported smelling the fumes, or how the truck was even allowed to pass inspection if the exhaust system was completely checked.now that i have identified the source of the problem which has plagued my truck from day one, and the service department has admitted that there is a correctable problem, i wish to pursue any further action necessary for such a case.thank you!

Exhaust manifold studs/bolts deteriorating and or breaking off from the engine cylinder heads. The exhaust manifolds are still attached to the engine by some of the bolts that have not broken yet,but they are very deteriorated. I feel this is a very serious issue that could result in a serious accident if the remaining bolts break off while my vehicle is being driven. I feel strongly that the vehicle manufacture should be responsible for this repair at their expense.

Turned corner, heard a sudden dragging noise.checked under truck.fuel tank strap had broken and fuel tank was dragging.quickly pulled into driveway. Having vehicle towed to repair shop.called dealer and found out that there was a recall on the same year ford truck for f15 not f250. Obviously appears to be a problem in other models.very lucky no injuries, explosions, leakage, etc...could have been bad. Frustrated.

While driving home from work today during a rain storm in rush hour (i'm traveling at 10mph top), my engine suddenly lost power and sounded as if it had lost the muffler, except the sound was coming from the engine compartment.because of the rain, it wasn't as loud as the last time it happened three years ago, but i knew what had happened thanks to my prior experience.i pulled over immediately and exited the highway.once the rain stopped, i was sure what had happened.there is no reason for this occurring at all, but to have it happen twice!there is seriously something wrong with the design in ford's engines (mine is a 5.4 v8, f-250.)i see all the reports of the same problem on the internet and it mentions the fact that there is the possibility of engine compartment fires.when it happened to me the first time, i was told by the dealership i should be able to drive it in for service, so i did.and i did so again today, taking the backroads.only later this evening, while researching the problem, did i discover the danger.please apply pressure to ford to correct this problem before someone is seriously injured.and since this is a costly repair that i feel is caused by poor design, it should not be placed on the burden of ford customers who pay thousands of dollars for their vehicles in the first place.

I own a 2001 ford f 250 super dutywith a 6.8 liter v10 this is the second time now that it has blown out a sparkplug while driving down the road at a high speed they were not the same plug and they are original motorcraft plugs .both times you smell alot of gas that could cause a fire.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. The contact stated that the vehicle was running very rough. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the sending unit had failed. The dealer also stated that the fuel tank straps had corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 252,000. The vin was unavailable.

2001 ford f250 super duty pickup. Power door locks are both failing. Unable to open doors with out pulling up lock manually inside truck. Could be safety hazard during an accident. Ford will only replace for $400. The truck is only 7 years old. This seems to early for lock actuators to fail. Have read of many ford owners complaining of similar failures on ford webites.

Driving along busy road way running fine, then the motor just shut down. Left stranded right in the middle of the road.could not be restarted, truck was towed to garage.cam shaft senor replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. The stated that a large puddle of transmission fluid leaked from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that both the transmission front seal and the torque converter would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

I have a 2001 ford f250 sd crew/4x4 and there is something wrong with the front end steering system. Today was the second time that my truck began to shimmy and shake so hard that at 55mph by the time i got the truck slowed to about 15mph i was over into the lane of the on coming traffic (luckly no one was there). The other day with my wife in the truck we turned a corner and the truck started to shimmy really hard and i lost some response control of the truck the steering became somewhat unresponsive, and i was forced to allow the truck to track into the baily post office parking lot. Something is wrong with my truck but the mechanics tell me that there is nothing wrong with it that they can find. The truck does not do this all the time, it comes and goes, sometimes it happens almost every time i drive it and then it can go weeks without happening. I worked as a mechanic for 25 years and i am telling you this is a very dangerous problem with this truck and i know that you have received hundreds maybe even thousands of complaints about this same problem with the ford f-series trucks and ford should be held accountable for such a bad design flaw that can causes a light shimmy to total loss of control of these trucks at any time while driving, which may cause serious harm or even death to the owner. My wife will not even ride in the truck any more because she is too scared to do so.thank you for time and consideration. Gary

Ford f250 with a v10 engine. Spark plug blew out.

Parked my truck at the post office to retrieve mail, got out and shut door, and out of the corner of my eye i saw what i thought as movement of my truck, so i turned aroundto see my truck starting to roll backwards , i yelled wtf, and started to chase my truck through the parking area, tried to jump in when i opened the door and i was to old and fat to do that, tried push back , but truck was to heavy to do that, so i went for the parking brake pressed it hard and fast as i could, and that workedmy truck was in park, as i had my keys in my hand. The park lock on the transmission failed in some way ,allowingto roll like it was in neutral

Spark plugs blown out of engines 2001 ford f- 250 . Both side of the engine.

I purchased a ford f-250 hd crew cab lariat new in 2000 (2001 model). At 52829 miles the transmission completely failed. The repair ticket states that the one-way clutch failed resulting in the disintegration of the clutch assembly.ford installed a factory rebuilt transmission replacement for 3552.97$. At 110,000 miles the rebuilt transmission has now failed. Ford refuses to admit that there may be an inherent design flaw in the transmission and instead blames the problem on the fact that the transmission is out of warranty, or owner neglect, or anything they can come up with. An automatic transmission designed to mate to a 7.3 liter diesel engine should last more than an average of 55,000 miles.i would like nhtsa to further investigate this matter before someone is either killed or maimed by fire from a failed, locked-up, or leaking transmission.

Automatic transmission started to slip out of gear while in drive.would drive in 2nd gear only. While on a dealer test drive it lost reverse and was so bound up it couldn't be pushed in neutral. Needs new tranny $3,100.00.told that the sprag and torque converter are the weak links.

2001 ford pickup f250 super-duty 7.3l dieselv8 turbo vin:f/ transmision part / second gear and clutch.this part breaks at no fault of owner yet manufacturer does not take responsability for part. They have replaced the part in all 2002 and up transmisions but the 2000 and 2001 models have the parts prone to break premature.my second gear broke at 40,000 miles 4,000 miles past my warranty.it cost me $3,000 to replace my transmision.i would like this transmision part investigated.

While driving at approximately 50 mph transmission shifted into second gear. Transmission is an automatic. Transmission would not shift out of second gear. The vehicle would not move at all when put in reverse. There was nothing abnormal noticed with transmission prior to this occurrence except a unexplained thud noise that i had taken the vehicle in for during the initial warranty period. I was told that this was a normal characteristic of the vehicle. Transmission had to be replaced per ford dealership. Ford dealership installed remanufactured transmission. This transmission was faulty and had to be replaced with another remanufactured transmission.

While driving at 30 mph down a mountain, the consumer's vehicle suddenly lost acceleration.the vehicle was towed to a dealer, who informed the consumer that transmission needed to be replaced.there was no forward, no reverseand no warning. *sc

2001 f250 crew cab 4 x 4 auto transmission.transmission failure at 49,000 miles.driving along at 45 to 50 miles an hour and transmission loses 2nd and throws/snaps passengers forward.vehicle has not been off road, all miles are highway.vehicle has not pulled anything. Ford said they could not repair only replace transmission with a rebuilt transmission for $3100. I had a local transmission repair shop make repairs for $2200.they weretold by ford when ordering parts that the one-way clutch that failed was a new design in 1998. Parts were not available since ford had since gone back to pre 1998 design. This is clearly a "latent defect" that ford is/has been award of. I am asking ford to stand for the cost of repairs or will refer to counsel to file a deceptive trade practice claim against them.

I was driving my ford 2001 f-250 under normal operating conditions when the transmission shifted very hard shaking the entire vehicle and started making a grinding noise then it began to shift erratically.this vehicle did go out of warranty on april of 2004 but it only has 32,600 miles on it(as of 8-10-04) the two ford dealerships in our area palm springs ford and fiesta ford both told us it wasout of warranty and would charge us to fix the truck.palm springs ford couldn't start for two weeks and fiesta ford wanted at least $2400 to fix the transmission.we were recommended to an independent repair shop that could fix it immediately for $1795 and he would guarantee his work for 36000 miles.we had the work done and immediately contacted the ford service center to see if we could get reimbursed for the cost of repairing the transmission since it was only 4 months out of warranty and still under36,000 miles.we were turned down for any help from fiesta ford and their ford factory rep.we called the ford customer service center and were told there was nothing they could do and they refused to give us any names or addresses of other people to contact.

My 2001 f250 super duty had a complete transmission failure at 50534 miles. The mechanics at the transmission shop told me that the one-way clutch had failed in the transmission resultingin the disintegration of the clutch assembly. Out of pocket cost $2805.82. While speaking to the mechanics i was informed that this is happening all over the country with this particular transmission. Even i know that a transmission is supposed to last longer than this, especially one that is on a "super duty". This is ridiculousand expensive. It is time for a voluntary recall or a class action law suit.

I was heading out on a family vacation with my 5th wheel camper.i was in west virginia going down a long grade, about half way down the grade i saw my engine rpm fall off to idle speed all i had was my brakes to get me down the hill.i pulled over at bottomof hill and checked transm fluid (i had just had it serviced a couple weeks before)it was full and no visible signs of leakage.when i tried to drive off it wouldnt go in any gear including rev.the dealership it was towed to said they see it all the time with the particular transmission i had and it would have to be replaced (at 3000 bucks)it was just 4000 mi out of warranty.the camper i pull is designed for a half ton truck i pulled it for 5 yrs with a half ton chev with no problems.i bought this truck so i could move up to a larger camper.i feel with the coments made by the dealership and towing company and my mech when i got home that ford is well aware of this problem and should be responsible for not only the cost of replacment but a replacment that is not going to go out on me in the future.(the dealership put the same tranmission model transmission in it that they took out).

Whiles driving at 55 mph, the consumer heard and big bang noise, and without any other warning, the automatic transmission failed. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. The floor manager stated it would cost $3,400. The consumer searched thenhtsa web side, andfoundmany complaints on this issue.

Driving home from workin 2001 ford f-250 pickupwith 34,000 miles transmission started mission gears and could not drive over 25 miole an hour.had trucked towed by aaa to closest dealer-crsytal ford. They advised the next morning that transmission was completely destroyed/fried.cost was 3300.00 dollars to repair.was outside of 3 year warranyy but under 36,000 miles.called ford customer assistance but no help. Am currently filing application for dispute settlement board .

I purchased the ford, f-250, diesel power stroke, 7.3 liter, auto transmission in late 2000.on august 20, 2006 i was traveling northbound highway 49 in auburn, california, from bell road.at the light, i proceeded forward and noticed my vehicle remained in first gear, and would not shift.i tried several times to let my foot off of the throttle in order to reduce the rpms.after several attempts, the vehicle shifted hard into 2nd gear and proceeded forward.this continued to occur until i was able to get home.i took the truck to cottman transmission in placerville calif on 8-30-06, as according to future ford, where i purchased the truck, the vehicle was out of warranty.after test driving the vehicle with a rep from cottman transmission, he determined 2nd gear was lost and there might be other problems.he also stated that rebuilding 2001 ford f250 transmissions was a common procedure for them.he explained one of the design problems and failure points on the transmission. I called other transmission shops to confirm the representatively comments regarding the 2001 fords.all concur that ford build an under performing transmission on that make and year, and that this truck is a common rebuild for them.i believe that the performance of drive train components, such as transmissions, are of a safety concern.failure of these components will have different effects based on the driving situation encountered during failure.i was fortunate not to be on a steep mountain grade or in rush hour traffic.the random failure of vehicle parts is unavoidable due to differing reasons, however, this transmission made since 2001 has been failing in most 2001 fords.on the date of this complaint, i have had the transmission rebuild and have been advised there were more issues than simply 2nd gear. $3,000.00 worth.i am retaining all of the failed parts for evidence. 76471 miles on the truck.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f250 super duty.after the recall regarding the camshaft sensor was performed, the vehicle does not move forward when placed into gear.the current mileage was 171,525 and failure mileage was 171,483.

2001 ford f-250 with 55,000 miles. Purchased new. Transmission failure.ford accepts no responsibilty for the $2,329.79 repair bill. However, the service writer told me because of some changes made in the parts i would never have this problem again.

Consumer called complaining about transmission problem. While drivingbetween 60 to 65 mph on the highwayvehiclestalled, and consumer was not able to control the speed. Manufacturerwas contacted, and stated that he needed to contact a dealer to see what was wrong with the vehicle. Dealer was contacted, and stated thattransmissionwas fried and that there was nothing they coulddo.

As i was driving my ford f-250 sd taking my child to school, there was a loud bang and the truck felt like it hit a brick wall.it would only do this when shifting out of 2nd gear.powerstroke with a 4r100 transmission.dealer states that the drum or "mechanical diode" has went out, so they replaced with a "sprague diode", at a cost of 1500.00. There have been numerous reports of this "mechanical diode" breaking due to ford using bad parts.i called ford and ask for reimbursement, but was denied. Truck had 64,000 miles when this happened. It is very well documented on various websites about this defect, but ford seems to deny it. The dealer was very good to work with and is the same dealer that i have do all my service work.

I have a 2001 ford f-250 ,diesel, automatic transmission.i was coming off the highway and felt like i was rear-ended, but there was no cars behind me.as i tried to increase speed after my stop, i had no power, and the transmission was slipping badly.i continued on to work and immediately called my mechanic, who referred me to a transmission specialist.i had the truck into him the next morning, and after doing his check of the transmission, he informed me that second gear and overdrive was gone and the transmission would need to be rebuilt.after disassembling the transmission ,he told me the cause was a defect in the ford transmissions, sprage assembly and direct drum, plus other things that im not an expert at describing.it ended up costing me close to $4000.00 dollars with the rental car to drive while the truck was in the shop, and ended up having to rebuild the entire transmission. I have talked to a few other transmission experts and some friends that have ford trucks and they all tell me yes, there is a defect in the ford transmissions. I also talked with the ford dealer, who denied ever hearing of this problem.i don't haul anything too heavy, and when i do haul a boat, it isn't real often, i am wondering why i had to pay so much money for a problem that is a defect in ford transmissions, that everyone seems to be familiar with but ford.

Veichle was purchased in may 2001. At 36700 while i was on leave in dallas tx,i was exiting the highway i came to a stop at a traffic light.when i attepted to accelerate the transmission shifted from 1st to 2nd tried to go to third then just stayed in 2nd and going back from first to second and kept doing that until i pulled over about a 1/6mile from the light.i check all the fluids and they were fine.at exactly 25500 i had the transmission serviced with a full system flush and a filter changed.after the transmission had failed i was able to get it to the skyline ford dealership in dallas.they looked at it and said it had kicked out some codes on their "ford" computer.i had no indication of fail lights in the cab of the truck.when they got the transmission apart they said the failure was a common failureand that they had seen this many times for this year and model, and the transmission internals were no good, the technician picked up a handful of metal shavings from inside the transmissionand showed them to me. They performed a full transmission rebuild using the hull of the old transmission.since the transmission had failed just recently out of warranty they refused to pay for it until i told them i bought the extended warranty at the purchase time of the veichle.not less than 3000 miles later the transmission went out again.this time i had stopped at a light and as soon as i stopped the truck died so i started it back up went into drive and it died again.i had to get someone to tow it.this time the dealer was mckie ford in rapid city sd,when they got the transmission off they said the same thing that it was acommon failure with ford transmission with this truckwith this particular year model.this truck has less than 2000 miles of towing under its belt.this truck has been taken care of very well both failures were to be blamed on ford.this truck has never been driven hard and all of the truck remains stock.

1.while driving at approximately 30 mph i experienced a sudden and immediate lost of power with my ford f-250 with a 4r100 automatic transmission.2.transmission failure.luckily traffic was light due to the off hour, and i was able to egress to the side of the road safely.potential consequences could have been severe at another time or location.failure occurred with no warning while vehicle was in motion.3.i had the vehicle towed to the local ford dealership for a diagnostic evaluation.the assessment from the dealer was that there was a mechanical failure of the intermitediate one way clutch (mechanical diode style) on second gear which caused the transmission to bind and seize.the recommended fix is either a total rebuild of the transmission or replacement.the dealer advised that ford had issued a technical service bulletin (tsb 01-13-5) which addresses this problem.according to the dealer service technician and the tsb ford switched from the sprag one-way clutch on 7/27/2000 to the mechanical diode type clutch up till 3/23/2001.ford found that the mechanical diode type clutch was defective and switched back to the sprag type clutch in march of 2001.ford subsequently issued tsb 01-13-5 on june 26, 2001 which advises replacement of the mechanical diode type clutch with the sprag (the old design).this issue applies to all 4r100 automatic transmissions built in the date range above and installed in (per the tsb) e-series, excursions, expeditions, f-150's, super duty f series, f-53 stripped chassis, and navigators.at the time i was in the ford dealership another vehicle with the exact same problem was also in the shop.ford is aware of the situation and refuses to resolve the issue.as this failure occurs while the vehicle is in motion and causes sudden and instant power loss there is significant safety issue with these vehicles.how many people have to be hurt, or killed before ford will stand behind their defective design ?*ph

The transmission was down shifting hard and making a bang noise, while slowing down.on 7-18-04 when returning from the soccer fields with my 2 kids in the f-250 pick-up ,the trans tried to lockup a couple of times.proceding though intersetion instead of up shifting. It tried to downshift and stop.every stop sign or light this happened.3 times i had to pull over and put in neutral.my daughter was so scared she kept asking to just walk home.now the truck will not shift gears, unless manually shifted and still slips badly.the f-250 has only 52960 miles 90% highway miles, only towed a couple of snowmobles twice.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 super duty. The contact stated the transmission was leaking while driving 25 mph.the transmission previously leaked on two occasions and the contact had taken the vehicle the dealer each time the failure occurred. The dealer replaced the transmission pump, torque converter, and o- rings. After the vehicle was repaired the transmission continued to leak. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the leak and they stated that the transmission warranty expired and there was nothing they could do to assist him.the failure mileage was 134,000.

1.while driving at approximately 30 miles per hour, i experienced a sudden and immediate lost of power.the vehicle is a 2001 ford f-250 with the 4r100 transmission.2.luckily traffic was light and i was able to egress to the side of the road without an accident.at another location or time, severe consequences could have occurred.3.i had the vehicle towed to the local ford dealership for a diagnostic evaluation.the assessment from the dealer was that the intermediate one way clutch (mechanical diode style) had failed and the transmission required rebuilding or replacement.the dealer advised that this is a common problem with 2001 model 4r100 transmissions and mentioned a technical service bulletin had been issued.i found fords tsb-01-13-5 on the internet and discussed this with the dealership.the situation is that in july 2000 through march 2001 ford changed the design of the one-way clutch from the sprag design (in service since 1989 according to the dealer) to the new mechanical diode.by march of 2001 ford recognized that the new design was faulty and reverted back to the original sprag design.the service bulletin instructs dealers that in the event of a failure, to replace the mechanical diode with the sprag design.ford refused to accept any responsibility for the faulty design, part, or repairs.in fact the representative was somewhat nasty in my opinion.clearly this is defective engineering that impacts the drive train.there are a multitude of complaints on this issue.this situation applied to 4r100 transmissions installed in 2001 e series, excursions, expeditions, f-150's, all f series super duty's, and navigators.how many people have to be hurt, or potentially killed before ford will issue a recall and stand behind their defective design ?lastly, the purchase date is an estimate, as the vehicle is in the shop.

Nar 02/28/2003mrthe consumer experienced with the gears going out shift.

Transmission failure;low mileage;no warning;defective equipment needs recalled;i was driving down the highway on my way to work and stopped for construction, upon accelerating my f250 would not shift past 2nd gear.i had to have the vehicles towed to the nearest dealership who told me, before looking at the truck that i needed a new transmission.with no warning signs whatsoever, bam!i have heard from several other f250 owners that their transmissions had to be replaced with low mileage as well.this seems to be a continual problem and i believe ford knows it!the dealership must have seen enough of these failures to know immediately that the transmission is blown!what can be done to get ford or someone to take responsibility.i believe a recall is in order or at least have ford pay the bill instead of their customers. *la

2001 f250 crew cab, 4x4, auto transmission. Transmission has failed at 36,200 miles. Dealer will not fix under warranty. Was told that a "direct 1-way gear broke, and now there is metal inside the transmission".i believe that ford knows about this problem and refuses to stand behind the product. *la

I stopped to grab a bite to eat and the truck would not shift into park.i had to turn off the engine in gear and set the parking brake.when i got back, i could hardly get the truck back into neutral to start the vehicle.it was also hard to find gears to drive back to work.we dropped the truck by the ford dealer and they replaced the shift shaft tube, 2 bushings and the shifter cable assembly.it seems to work fine now.

Automatic transmission, torque-converter. I have a 2001 ford f-250 super dudy pick-up truck, since 9 months after purchased i have had several problems regarding my transmission & drive shaft (already replaced it while under warrenty), with the transmission we had a problem down shifting, evey time we took it in they couldn't find the problem ( ford dealer, they said theres nothing they can do), it has 90% of highway miles on it & 10% town miles. It is now 2004 it has 61000 miles & the torque-converter is sliping & shuttering, not alowing the fluid to pass through correctly & the transmissionnow has to be rebuilt, because ford dealer said the couldn't find nothing wrong, so we took it for a second opinion & they found something, but while under warrenty the dealership could not !!!!!!! go figure, i guess thats how they make there money .

Automatic transmission started to slip out of gear while in drive.would drive in 2nd gear only. While on a dealer test drive it lost reverse and was so bound up it couldn't be pushed in neutral. Needs new tranny $3,100.00.told that the sprag and torque converter are the weak links.

All front axle seals, hub seals, hubs failed.

Front drivers side wheel bearings went out and almost caused a wreck.i have spoken with many people on this subject and with a lot of research,i have found that the four wheel drive hub ass. Used in fords f seiries trucks may be defective.the hubcannot be serviced nor the bearings inside,it is a sealed unit that cost around 400 dollars every time i replace it.if this bearing goes out while driving down the road it may cause a wreck by allowing an inch or so of play in the tire it self or by locking up resulting in skid type accident.i think that this is an abnormal amount of failure for sixty-thousand miles and 2 years.

The vehicle hub caps locking tabs are cracking from heat or loss of tension to the wheel rims. The fire department stated that hubcaps are coming off at highway speed with no warning.the hub caps flying off in any direction.the consumer filed a seven emailcomplaint.the consumer sent pictures in showing the base plastic hub cap lock cracking off or missing all together.style f81 a-1130-aa 4x2*tc

My truck's hydraulic clutch system has failed twice now.both of these times it prevented me from disengaging the motor and the brakes would not stop the truck. I was almost in an accident as a result of this both times. The dealership has repaired my vehicle both times at no cost, but my concern is that if this causes me to have an accident and kill someone, myself included, who then will be responsible?in my opinion this is a serious safety issue due to the fact that the defect renders the truck unstoppable. The first occurance, the truck only had 1200 miles on it.the second one was just recently at 20,900 miles.i've only had the truck approximately twenty months. That is ridiculous.

Clutch master cylinder failure resulting in vehicle clutch/transmission being engaged at all times and lurching forward despite breaking. When clutch was pushed in it stayed on the floor and kept the transmission engaged.

The clutch hydraulics spontaneously failed while driving in traffic. One day the clutch was perfectly normal. The next day, i was driving to the store and the clutch pedal stuck to the floor a couple times. I had to manually lift the pedal. Even with the pedal depressed, the clutch began to engage. There is no evident leakage. The vehicle has 90k miles, mostly highway. I believe this happened at around 20k-30k miles but corrected itself. I can't find a record of the repair but now that it is happening again, i recall it happening before. Vehicle is now in shop.

I have a 2001 ford f-250 diesel with a 6 speed manual transmission. The hydraulic clutch system has went out 3 times in less than a year. This past time the truck started pulling out into oncoming traffic on it's own while the clutch pedal was pressed to the floor. I had my 17 month daughter with me and we were almost hit! this is an unsafe system and something needs to be done about it before someone gets injured or even killed!!

Clutch master cylinder failure resulting in vehicle clutch/transmission being engaged at all times and lurching forward despite breaking. When clutch was pushed in it stayed on the floor and kept the transmission engaged.

After 65,000 miles, the manual transmission locked in gear, the cluch failed to disengage.the only way to stop was to turn off the ignition.the auto shop said the pressure plate had worn out, and needed to be replaced.the clutch plate only had 40% ware.

The driver's side seat belt comes unbuckled without the latch being touched while driving.this results in an unsafe situation where the seat belt isn't providing any safety and it also requires two hands to re-buckle it taking my hands off the steering wheel.this happens while driving in my driveway, on city streets and highways.the problem has been happening soon after i bought the truck used on november 10, 2004.

Driver seat belt comes unlatched for no apparent reason.there was a recall on these seat belts, but my vin was not covered by the recall.

Dt*: the contact stated the front center seat belt loosened and failed to stay tight.if the belt is pulled it will tighten, but it has too much play and may not accurately hold the passenger in the event of an accident.the buckle will not come undone.the service dealer replaced the seat belt three times and the dealer claims the belt worked even though it is loose and the dealer will not change it anymore.this has been an issue since the vehicle was first acquired when it was new.updated 9/27/2006 -

Driver seatbelt unlatches unexpectedly.there doesn't seem to be any particular cause for the latching failure.

At various times, the driver's side seat belt buckle will release causing the belt to become loose.it happens at all speeds and usually will happen multiple times during a trip or not at all.i have never had it happen on the passenger's side seat belt.

For about 7 months, my son has been driving the 2001 f250 sd under normal driving conditions.there have been many instances where the driver's side front seat belt has unlatched on its own.it has also happened to me while driving.the truck was taken back to ford dealership on 3/7/03 under recall 01s21 seatbelt."buckles were inspected, ok as per 01s21, no repairs needed." we were charged $27.16 for the inspection.took the truck back to dealership today (5.27.15).they have no advice for us.there are many open complaints for this problem.please do something about this before someone gets killed.i've seen the reports of many injuries already.

Rear seat belt buckle has broken latching mechanism within female buckle.this item is not available from the manufacturer.seat belt not available from the manufacturer on a 14 year old vehicle ?

Front passenger seat belt continues to "unclick" itself.example, passenger "clicks" seatbelt in. Thinks they are safer.minutes later seatbelt unbuckles itself.passenger must rebuckle self in continually.on 3/29/2002 ford f250 crew cab truck brought in to theodore robbins ford (costa mesa, ca) for fixing front passenger side seat belt.they said they fixed it.i have receipt saying it was fixed.seatbelt still to this day uncllicking itself.called my local ford dealership in michigan on february 22, 2005, they said, sorry, out of warranty, you have to pay to have it fixed......

2001 ford f250 super duty, driver seat belt will unfasten at any given time.

-the contact stated that the front driver's seat belt did not latch properly on 2001 ford f250.the seat belt will latch, but after a few minutes it will release itself from the latch.the contact has recently noticed the problem with the seat belt because she just started driving the vehicle on 12/19/06.the vehicle currently has 100,000 miles.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told theseat belt was involved in arecall campaign 01v227002. The rear left seat belt was repaired during the recall.the frontdriver's seat belt was not replacedbecause it was inspected and found to be working properly.the contact was told by the dealer that the recall campaignwas now closed and they will not repair the seat belt free of charge. Updated 2/16/2007 -

The contact owns a 2001 ford f250 sd. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, he detected that thefront passenger seat belt would not remain secured in the locking mechanism. When the seat belt was in use by an occupant the failure would occur. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000. Updated 01/13/11*ljupdated 01/31/11.

Driver side seat belt unsnaps while driving, was checked under recall in 2001 and checked ok, now i am having problems. This problem has been going on for about the last six months.

Dt:consumerfound a recall01v227001 online for the seat belt assembly. Contacted ford, and they told him that the recall work had already been done.consumer bought the vehicle new.the seat belt will occasionally unbuckle, and if wiggled, the seat belt will unlatch. This doesn't always occur.

The consumer stated that the passengers rear seat does have headrest.it will be unsafe for rear seat passengers if an accident occurs. *yd

Consumer is concerned about the design of rear seats, they0 do not have headrests, in the event of a rear end crash the passenger?s head would go through the window.*yd

Hitting brake to shift out of park the pedal went to floor. Steel line coming out abs ruptured where the flex section ends right above frame rail. Where i live, steep hills and sharp turns, this was very life threatening if occurred while driving!i'm not a happy camper!

2001 ford f-250 diesel pick up truck. Under hard braking loss of power steering. Ford dealer says "this is normal, they all do that".

A rear brake line on my 2001 ford f-250 super duty truck rusted through, causing a loss of brake fluid and braking ability.i replaced the brake line with a part from ford, but ford seemed uninterested in addressing this failure, which i had never heard of happening before.i still have the old part.

Brake line to the rear brakes ruptured due to extreme corrosion inside the frame this failure resulted in the loss of braking/stopping power without any warning.the line was replaced.

There is a brake line to the rear wheels located roughly above the differential.that line is in close proximity to another cable (maybe the emergency brake cable) and the brake line and cable are rubbing together.the brake line is very worn in that area from contact with the cable.it looks to be worn to a point that would be very close to the "core"of the brake line.of course excess pressure or further wear could cause a failure of that line and therefore loss of rear braking.

Vibration/grinding when brakes applied.

While applying the brakesvehicle vibrated. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. Dealer determined that the front passenger rotor broke. Also, rear brakesneeded to be replaced.

Vibration when appying brakes because rust on rotors.new rotors installednew rotor rusting, still have problem.

Upon routine inspectioni noticed that a line was wearing through due to rubbing on the shock tower inside the front driver side wheel well, and was actually wore past the nylon strength cords.upon closer inspection this was found to be the power steering line which is used for the hydraboost system, which uses power steering fluid to boost the brakes.had this line continued to wear untilleakage or rupture i would have likely lost both ability to brake and steer the vehicle.unfortunately due to the type of connections used on this line, the new lins contacts the exact same area and will likely begin to wear through again.

I was making a sharp left turn, from a stop, when i heard a snapping noise, then i noticed my steering wheel turning freely, i just continued forward with no steering since i was kind of crossed on the middle of the road, and had cars coming at me at a high rate of speed, i was able to go over onto the side walk crossed, i stopped the truck and when i looked saw the shaft at the steering box had sheered in half.i am a retired law enforcement officer and consider this a very delicate matter, have i being traveling at a high speed this could have being a situation with very tragic results.please do not ignorethanks

I have a 2001 ford f250. I have owned it for years. My steering is really stiff. I have had it to 2 ford dealerships & they say they can,t find anything wrong. I know it is dangerous because i've owned lots of trucks & never had such a problem. It is real hard to control at higher speeds. It makes you constantly trying to correct left to right steering. Thank you

I own a 2001 ford f250 super duty 4x4 truck.after purchasing truck used, i replaced all steering components with o.e equipment specifications at certified repair facilities.all facilities certified all steering parts in original specification form.despite all this, the truck would shake violently upon hitting any kind of rough roads or potholes.after reading other complaints, i realized this is defect with the truck even going to 2007 model year.this truck is dangerous!! dangerous!! dangerous!!!!!!!!. Needs to be recalled and fair market value given to the buyers.someone will get killed.a driver should not have to fear driving a truck on any road except a perfectly smooth one which does not exist.i almost died driving this truck crossingthe walt whitman bridge from nj to pa.i am not alone. Nhtsa has complaints against the f250 sd 4x4 going into 2007 model year.give fair market value and recall the trucks.owners can get the credit toward purchase of new or used ford trucks models that do not suffer from this defect.ford will not lose if they acknowledge their mistake while no one died or seriously injured yet!!!!.

Letter from congressman wolf on behalf of constituent re 2001 ford f250 super duty truck because of steering malfunction (attn: john czerwinski).the consumer stated when the brake was applied, the steering wheel was hard to turn, even with both hands. When some of the pressure was released from the brake, the steering wheel would turn freely. The consumer was informed, the steering pump was bad. However, the steering pump was replaced five times. However, the problem continued. Updated 03/25/15.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle lost power and the steering wheel seized. In addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. The dealer (tomball ford, 22702 tomball pkwy, tomball, tx 77375, (281) 378-3160) was contacted, but did not receive authorization from the contact to diagnose the vehicle. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the high volume oil pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 157,000.

Gary

Cam shaft position sensor has failed 2 different times on a 2001 powerstroke ford f250.first time while driving through a parking lot.second time on the road at highway speeds.vehicle was difficult to stop and steer due to loss of power steering and power brakes.

I currently own a 2001 f250 7.3 diesel truck. I along with many other people in this country are scared to drive their trucks.i have had several incidents, but the most recent was in august 2011.i was driving down the highway at 65 mph ( the speed doesn't matter for the failure). The truck is very hard to keep control of, it shakes violently and walks back and forth.it is very difficult to keep the truck in one lane.it got so bad that i couldn't keep control of it and began going from one side to the other trying to get control.other vehicle's on the road got away from mine or i would have hit them. It took a while to get control of the truck. I don't know how we didn't go flying off the highway and killed.there are alot of people with this same problem with this truck. There is so much "play" in the steering that can't be corrected.the ford dealership says that there is nothing they can do to fix it.this vehicle is dangerous!!!! to drive and someone is going to be killed if something is not done.apparently this is not the beginning of complaints about this problem. I am pretty sure people have died as a result of this failure, but it went un noticed because they were blamed for "overcorrecting".this is a serious issue and needs to be addressed.thank you for your consideration in this problem.

Violent shake in steering upon encountering less than smooth road.

We had traveled aproximately 450 miles and on the last leg of a trip in the mountains. The driver noticed on the last 150 miles of the trip the steering wheel had changed position where the center of the wheel normally was horizontal, was now 45 degrees off and vertical. The vehicle was parked on arrival to destination. The next day the vehicle needed to be moved and unloaded when this was attempted the steering wheel just turned with not control of the wheels. So we were unable to move the vehicle. After an initial inspection of the vehicle and it was placed on a floor jack to raise the front end to look for problems under the vehicle. After turning the wheels manually it was noticed the arm that comes from the steering box was loose at the elbow. After closer inspection it was found that the entire shaft was sheered off at the steering box. We were luck it failed when we were not on the road. It must did the final failure when we drove into our drive way and parked. This might have been a disasterous accident if this had failed while we were driving on the mountain roads we had just driven on our trip.

When the truck is stopped or when parking, the power steering disappears. With the brake applied, thesteering wheel won't move at all. With the brake released, it's near impossible to turn the steering wheel. I purchased this truck used two years ago with just under 11,000 miles. It is like new. This problem is annoying at best and could be dangerous in an emergency maneuver with hard braking.

I was driving east on burke hill rd at approx. 35 mph when the steering went on my pick up truck, then i hit a pine tree and broke the radiator, the drivers side front quarter panel was folded back tothe drivers door and i saw a piece of the under carriage hanging down and come to find out it was the spectar arm broke by the front tire(drivers side), and when the garage picked the truck up in the air they found out the transfer case was broke nearly in half. They felt the cause of the accident was the broken spectar arm.

When braking hard the steering locks up. This has happened 2 times and ford says it is normal. This is very dangerous and could cause a serious accident. I almost hit 2 vehicles because of this problem!dt

Steering feels loose, wanders. Steering wheel jumps back and forth when you hit a bump. Noticeable at high and low speeds. Makes vehicle control a problem at times. Have had this problem for approximately a year. Has been checked by dealership more than once, and they state that they can't find anything wrong.

Power steering failure of some sort has caused power assist to be applied at full capacity at all times.there is no steering feel whatsoever, and there is no self-centering of the steering.an extreme level of attention to careful steering is required to operate the truck due to the slightest touch of the steering wheel becoming an extreme response by front wheels.when the vehicle is stopped, with brakes applied, the steering wheel can eaisly be spun from lock to lock by just pushing on the wheel slightly - it will continue to turn untouched.

My 2001 f-250 super duty diesel has steering problems.its hard to believe that the number one selling truck in the nation for who knows how many years, would sell a truck to the public that has power steering problems.when i am trying to park i have no power steering at all.i know that it is due to receiving all the power to the braking system, but with all the technology out there today why would ford have a problem trying to figure out how to have power braking and power steering at the same time.my 77 high boy had better steering with 35 inch tires than my 2001 has.

Twice the power steering pump has failed (needing replacement both times) resulting in loss of power steering fluid and sudden loss of power assisted steering.first happened on april 9,2004 at 22,219 miles. Then again at 38,175 miles on feb. 22,2006.

I have a 2001 ford f250 with the 7.3 l engine.the problem with the vehical is that the power steering is unreliable.it works great 99%but occasionally it just goes dead.it seems that using the brakes and trying to turn the steering wheel will cause the steering to go dead such as in a parking lot where you are trying to turn the wheel and use the brakes to stop the car.the other day i was going up an on ramp with a turn at the top and had no steering to turn the truck.i almost had a wreck.the dealership seems aware of this problem... The fellas on the ford truck web site have had their problems as well.it seems like this might be an issue for a possible recall.

Trailer arm broke fromdifferential, almost causing vehicle to go into oncoming traffic, due to not being able to turn steering wheel, after arm fell into steering stabilizer, and jamming.

2001 ford f250 superduty upper and lower ball joint failure w/78985 miles on vehicle. One upper was worn to allow an inch of move in wheel. Ford has a problem with premature ball joint wear as i have this vehicle with the problem, had a mercury grand marquis ball joints failed with 40000 miles or less. F250 diagnosed at front end alignment facility they said 70000 miles is good on ford ball joints as they replace a lot of them in 40000 and 50000 miles. Ford has determined this a wear area and will not recognize the problem. I contend this notfail until well above 100000 miles. It is not a tire, brake pads, filters, or belts.

Rear passenger doors of extended cab(both) will not release to open. Causing danger in difficulty of passengers to exit the vehicle.

Nothing lead up to this. I just sold my 2001 f250 xlt to a friend. Within days the truck started shaking violently when they would reach a speed around 40mph. They have taken it to a mechanic and he spent days looking at it and can not find a problem. Its bad enough that it almost caused them to run off the road. Truck had to be parked on the side of the road!!

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle weaved while drivingat any speed. However it worsens at higher speeds.the dealership installed new tires and aligned the front end, but the problem still persisted.the dealership also informed the contact the ball joints were stuck and grease fittings might help solve the weaving, but thisremedy could not be guaranteed.updated

Dt*:the contact stated that the front end of the vehicle weaved while driving at any speed, causing increased steering effort.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the tires were replaced, and a front end alignment was performed.the repair was unsuccessful in correcting the problem.

2001 ford f-250 weaves on the road. Upon inspection mechanic determined the consumer needed new tires and to have the front end realigned. Problem resisted. The vehicle was taken to another dealer who indicated that the front end had been changed and that's why the vehicle was wandering.

Gary

My vehicle experienced a front wheel bearing malfunction which just about resulted in a potential crash if i had been on the highway at the time. Luckily i had stopped for gas. I was told by ford there was no recall and they were unaware of the problem. The independent shop that fixed the part said it was sealed and was a manufacture defect. I called ford back to report it and they insist there in no problem even though i have 5 friends who have expereince the exact problem in their f250 trucks. I also referred ford to a website chat that indicated over 200 of the same problem all at different points of the ownership (10k, 25k, 50k miles) some under warranty some not. I believe this to be enough for ford to take ownership. They refused to pay for my repairs as well as look into the matter. They continue to put this part on the trucks knowing they are defective and cannont function ont he superduty truck front ends. I have also spoken with different ford mechanics who admit it is a "known problem" and they keep the part in stock because they replace them so much. The word from ford above is "if it is in warranty fix it, if it is out charge, and if they complain compensate" when asked about potential accident it was said "they would deal with it as they arise". I think this need to be looked into. I am only out $500 but someone else may be out alot more if that front end locks up going 70 down a highway.

Driving my truck on highway. The spare tire cable broke the tire went under a trailer and bent two rims and the axle. I bought the truck new has 60,900 miles the spare has never been of the truck.

We have a 2001 ford f250 the truck has shut off while driving 6 times. 3 times were near fatal. We get the vehicle towed to the dealership they say they fix it and then it happens again. We called files florida lemon law and they said because we did not file within the first two years of owning the car that it is not a lemon.first time occured 12/00 number 6 occured 6/05

The spare tire hoist on our 2001 ford f250is jammed and will not pick up the spare tire.there is no safe, suitable place to store the spare tire.leaving it along the road was not an option and there was no room behind the front seat.leaving it in the truck bed where it is subject to theft isn't a viable option.ford was notified, but said that the warranty had expired and that they will not repair the hoist.in the meantime we have an 80lb. Tire and no safe place to keep it.

There was another recall that may be related to the failure under nhtsa campaign id number 06v286000 (vehicle speed control), but the contact was not aware if the vin was included.the approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

I just found out that my 2001 f-250's cruise control was never replaced just disconnected,i only found out after i took it to an independent repair to repair a brake problem. Because my brake system lost pressure. The original ford solution of disconnecting the cruise control fixes one problem but that same faulty part is still poses danger. I took my truck to ford a there report showed no recall notice showing and they told me it would be $103 to replace the part, of course i paid it, it would be to dangerous not too. The dealer told me i should call fordcustomer complaint dept to try and get my money back.but the real issue is that many people that think they can live with ford's first solution, without cruise control. Think again about suddenly losing brake pressure.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f250 super duty.the contact stated that his cruise control switch was recalled.he took the vehicle to be repaired according to the recall.the dealer stated that the cruise control was disconnected and previously replaced; therefore, ford would not pay for it again.the contact stated that the cruise control was never previously repaired.he took the vehicle to another dealer, but they also did not want to make the repairs.the failure mileage was 95,638.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed the accelerator pedal and the accelerator pedal sensors would need to be replaced. I have a 2001 ford f250, the windshield leaked causing the gem module to mal-function. This is a problem in alot of ford vehicles, not just mine. The short causes the truck to miss, stall, a lot of electrical problems result.

When i purchased the truck used, the driver's side window was slightly scratched and over the years the window has been scratched more over a larger area making it nearly impossible to see out of if the sun is on the left side of the truck.i know other models and years have had this problem and don't understand why my truck has not been included.

The contact owns a 2001 ford f-250 sd. The contact stated that as he started the engine, every light remained illuminated of the instrument panel. In addition, the contact stated that there was a broken seam in the windshield that would cause water to leak into the vehicle and onto the electronic control module. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,007.

The two vents behind the rear seat of the cab leak and cause carpet/floor damage.
