Our ford f150 caught on fire in our driveway for no apparent reason. Thank god it did not start our neighbor's house on fire. Also thank god that it was not in our garage at the time.*nlm
About three minutes after i parked and shut off the truck in the driveway, i heard a loud explosion, stepped outside and saw flames shooting out from under the hood accompanied by billowing smoke. The fire lasted 15-20 minutes, went through the firewall, entered and melted down the cab.during this period of time, i was attempting to put out the fire in order to prevent it from spreading to the garage and the propane tank.as a result, i had to be treated for moderate smoke inhalation by the first responders on the scene.the truck was part of the 2005 recall concerning the leaking brake fluid and its corrosion of the electrical systems. I brought this truck to copper country ford in order for them to perform the necessary repairs to comply with the recall notice, which, to the best of my knowledge, was performed.

Horn buttons are too small to locate while turning. Please describe details.tt
There are two horn buttons onsideofwheel aboutsize of postal stamp. When driver really needs to get to horn right away it'shard to find the buttons. It was difficult to use a horn especially while turning the wheel because of poor design of the wheel.
Due to placement of driver airbag the horn buttons are difficult to use when trying to warn other drivers that suddenly veer into my lane.several coworker that drive similar vehicles have had the same problem.the horn buttons are at 3 oclock and 9 oclock, their size is about 1 inch by 5/8 inch.with the size and placement of the horn buttons in a hurry most times the airbag is hit rather than the horn.
The horn buttons on my 1996 ford f-150 are almost impossible to press without taking your eyes off the road and scanning the steering wheel to locate them.numerous times i have not been able to find them in emergency situations.in every emergency situation i have experienced, my hands end up pressing on the air bag cover and then on the cruise control buttons.only after i have narrowly avoided a crash due to not having time to look down at the steering wheel to discover where the horn buttons are.the horn button layout could not possibly have proceeded through the design and testing process without numerous warnings and complaints by the test engineers and other analyst's.ford appears to have left this design flaw in place to avoid an expensive redesign of the 1996 model f-150.it was only in production from september 1995 through december 1995 then ford introduced the redesigned 1997 model in january 1996.it appears that they opted to sacrifice operator safety in their rush to migrate to the new truck design.
Vehicle inconsistently stalls for at low speeds / traffic conditions.
While driving, the engine shut down, causing the consumer to lose control of the vehicle.please describe.
My wife came home from work, was talking on the phone and notice smoke drifing by the sliding glass windows. She went out onto the back deck and saw that the 1996 ford f-150 (4-wheel drive) was on fire under the hood. (august 9, 2004) the truck was parked at the basement level on our house. She heard the truck repeatly trying to start as if someone was in side, she thought that i had come home and saw the fire and was trying to move it away from ourhouse. She call 911. The front of the hood was completely engulfed in flames. She went to the bedroom window to see if i had pulled up but i had not arrived home yet. She went back out of the deck and the truck was still trying to start. The fire had broke the front windshield and had melted the tires. Our sons truck was parked beside it. He had damage to the headlamps, front hood and rear view mirror of his truck. The vinyl siding which was on the second level of our house had melted.we had driven the truck on sunday august 8th to get grocery. The truck had not been driven since then.the vehicle had previously been parked in my mother-in-laws carport. She is 79 years old and is widowed, has slight dementia and lives alone and is no longer able to drive. If this had occurred in her carport, her house would have caught fire, with her inside.we live next to her and she wanted to keep the truck at house because she lives on the highway.the truck had recently been paid off and insurance was dropped to liability, since it was seldom ever driven. The truck is a total loss. Luckily no one was hurt. I am very interested in finding out what cause this fire. We have two other ford vehicles. A 1996 ford explorer and 1994 ford thunderbird. I am concerned about the safety of driving these vehicles.
Vehicle intermittently stalls at slow speeds. I started logging dates and mileage of stalls since september 1998. Dealer has tried several times unsuccessfully to diagnose and correct problem.informed me in october 8, 1998 letter that they were discontinuing service on my truck.letter states, "if and when the vehicle begins to exhibit this concern at a frequency that would be considered abnormal by ford standards, we will be happy to meet with you to discuss our options."what is "abnormal by ford standards?"when someone dies as a result of this problem?
While parked with the engine turned off and the key removed, the vehicle has attempted to start several different times over the past few days.there was no one in the truck.the vehicle ignition attempts to engage and jumps forward or backward depending on the gear the veicle was in when parked.
Pcm module failed causing poor performance of transmission.
While driving abs and brake warning light came on stopped to check problem and saw fire. Had to replace master cylander and some wiring. 3 other people, including mother in laws van have had problem.
Wires for the fuel tank gauge were too short and were not connected.

While vehicle was parked for 3 hours a fire started under the hood.the vehicle was totaled.the dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.*sc
I have previously submitted a complaint odi id number 10110013 dated 8-3-05.at this time, i will insist that a serious consideration be given to the wiring harness connected to the cruise control servo whereby- the horn is in play there!!!i am of course talking about recall #05v388000 (nhtsa recall campaign number) ford f150 /suv '95- '01 with cruise control fire potential. The fuse (#13 as listed in the manual - check out the number of items connected to that one fuse!) had blown before a fire destroyed my whole truck. That is to say i had sustained damage to my vehicle. Ford service -mccafferty of langhorne, pa recently installed the inline bandaid at the mfg. Request. Mccafferty again left me to there streets with an obviously burned harness/cruise servo pin connections. (with the harness disconnected there is no horn! can i stress this enough? my point is this -the service techs' and management don't believe that this harness has anything to do with my horn. Question - do the engineers at ford feel the same way? from today's inquire on this site there are uncertainties as to what actually is the cause. This could be it!!!! the owners guide lists the horn to be connected at #3 of the power distribution box located under the hood. So be it ! it is also connected to the #13 fuse under the dash. The chart on pg 357 of the manual doesn't list the horn as part of the circuitry. It is however connected to the harness that is connected to that circuitry. On a personal note, i'd like to get my cruise control parts replaced -they were burned up prior to the recall of my '96 f150. My truck didn't flame up but i smelled burning.
Vehicle caught on fire in the steering column area due shortage in the electrical wiring harness.please give any further details.
On september 2, 2004, the 1996 ford f150 was parked in front of the house and caught fire under the hood.the tulsa fire deparment came and put out the fire. They reported it appeared to be electrical and under the hood
1996 ford f150 pickup exploded into a ball of fire with ignition off.truck had not been driven for approximately one month.
Whenvehicle was parked for about 45 minutes suddenly an electrical fire broke out under the hood, causingvehicle to burn up.dealer has not been contacted.
-the contact stated that while the vehicle was parkedinthe driveway noticed that there was a fire underneath the hood. The contact called the fire department, by the time the fire departmentarrived the engine was completely destroyed.the fire department stated that the fire had to do with something electrical underneath the hood.the fire department stated that there was a recall for contacts vehicle, but contact statedhe never received a recall notice.
While i was checking the oil in my truck the cruise control deactivation switch burst into flames. I never use the cruise control so i never really thought about it until i noticed there were some recalls for this issue but not for my model year. Luckily i had the hood up looking at something else when it happened so only the plastic electrical connector was destroyed. To remedy the problem i replaced the switch and just left it disconnected. I no longer have the switch that malfunctioned. I cannot be sure about the incident date or purchase date, but i have given an approximate estimate for each.

At about 4 a.m. On july 16, 2005; my 1996 ford f150 started to burn after having been parked in my driveway for several hours. The fire department was dispatched and extinguished the fire, but the truck was a total loss. The fire chief indicated that it looked like an electrical fire that started on the driver's side of the engine compartment. I was aware of the cruise switch recall on the 2000-2001 ford trucks, but did not realize that my truck could also be affected by this because it had the same cruise control deactivation switch.

Majority of problems have been with front and rear suspension in addition to the following: cambers, slugs, toes, rotors, gear box, springs, drag links, tie rods, bushings, trans cross members, stabilizer barrs, bushings, electrical, computer, transmission, oil leaks, ignition cylinder, and replacement of four wheel drive components.dealership tells me their hands are tied.ford motor company only "documents" difficulties and i can't get past a customer service representative who can do nothing but put my complaints into a database.repeated letters and phone calls have gone unresolved and ford motor company has made no attempt at customer service!i was told today that notice would be sent to the local field office where they would contact the dealer service manager and most likely not me directly although i asked that they do so.there have been ten service appointments for these parts to be replaced.i now have another appointment for aug. 9th - we still have front and rear suspension problems.to date, our truck has been at the service for repairs for a total of 22 days.

Copy of email to ford: i wrote to you a couple of months ago regarding an extreme level of corrosion occurring on my 1996 f150 which resulted in the oil pan rusting through only to be rebuffed. Well now the level of corrosion is even worse.the brake lines are so corroded that one of them burst and nearly caused an accident. Clearly this is not normal.this vehicle is only used for personal use and is only used on the highway for transportation.i have another vehicle, a jeep, which sits next to it that is 5 years older that is not exhibiting the corrosion found under your vehicle. As i mentioned in my previous letter, i am the original owner and the vehicles mileage is less than 60k.clearly this vehicle is defective but your earlierresponse to me indicates that you dont care.therefore, you have lost my wife and i as customers and i feel obligated to tell anyone i know of your poor quality and concern for your customers. This vehicle is a deathtrap looking for its first victim and i have no choice but sell the vehicle and send a copy of this letter to the nhsta so that its on record that ford was notified of the defect.

I contacted sutton ford and quickly realized that they would not help.i then contacted [xxx]at ford in dearborn, michagan.her phone number is [xxx] ask for the executive office and then for [xxx].she made me bring the truck in so a ford mechanic could do the inspection.sutton charged me 29.95 for looking at the oil pan and agreeing that the pan had rusted through.i was told out in the shop that this is a common problem with a 96 truck.[xxx] at ford then informed me that this is a common problem and is not fords responsibility to repair.i explained that i have never had an oil pan rust through, ever, especially when the truck only has 70-75,000 miles on it.i asked what i should put on the oil pan on my $30,000.00 windstar to make sure that oil pan does not rust through, since this is a common problem.she refused to answer.my neighbor just had the same problem with his truck.the repair at ford is 625.00.i have called around and have been told that this is a very common problem.one man who answered the phone at the exective office told me he has dealt with the same problem many times.an oil pan should not rust out like this.i just sold a 90 tempo with 175,000 miles on it and the oil pan is just fine.ford is pulling a fast one on a lot of people.i told [xxx] that i would be writing to her boss.she advised me that she would intercept the letter and her boss would not see it.her word is final.anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.if you need any additional information please don't hesitate to call.thank you, [xxx]. Oil pan rusted out.i complained 1 other time about this problem.ford is very aware of this problem.i spoke to them and they deny knowing anything about it.they are liars.my dad is retired and is vacationing next to a retired ford worker.he has told my dad that ford did a cost reduction idea on the paint that they use on oil pans on the trucks in the 96 range.they took out an anti chip compound that was used in the paint to save money.ford should be responsible for the repairs.it cost me $500.00 to get the repair fixed at ford.ford has caused the problem and know is making a small fortune by charging the people for repairs.this is morally wrong.hopefully you can look into this matter.if you need additional information please feel free to contact me.i spoke to one of the vp's at ford in dearborn michigan.she lied through her teeth.a lot of people are getting cheated.please help.thank you, [xxx]. Owner unpligged the switch on the mastercylinder and put new fuse in again. Fuse did not blow and truck would shift. There is a short in the switch or electrical system .this is very much a fire hazzard!!!!!!! still not fixed.
Brake lights failed due to a burnt switch connector.
Headlights are not bright enough.
I own a 1996 ford f150 with dual tanks. I have a problem with the back fuel tank transferring gas to the front tank. If unnoticed this will cause gas to overflow onto the ground causing a real safety and pollution hazard. I called ford and they said that there wasn't any recall for this problem on my vin. Well even if there isn't a recall for this problem or not it is still a problem and there was a recall for this problem on the 1990 tp 1993 f150 so i'm figuring that they still have the problem on my vehicle also.
The contact owns a 1996 ford f-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was equipped with a dual fuel tank and while driving various speeds, a strong odor of gasoline emitted inside and outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the fuel return check valve would need to be replaced because the fuel from the rear fuel tank overflowed into the second fuel tank. In addition, fuel had seeped out of the fuel tank cap. The vehicle was not repaired. There was a recall issued for 1990-1993 f-series model vehicles under nhtsa campaign id number: 01i008000 (fuel system, gasoline) but not for the 1996 model years. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.updated 06/30/14 maupdated 07/2/2014

Dual gas tanks. Gas is pressurized from rear tank to the front tank, causing a fuel transfer to the front tank, front tank is overfilling, gas is under pressure, spilling from the overflow. When the cap is removed, gas explodes from the filler neck.
Fuel tanks. Filled rear tank and opened front tank to fill it. When i took cap off gas splashed out. The front tank was over full. I talked to a ford mechanic and he told me that it was a valve in the return line that caused the front tank to over fill from the rear tank. He also said that ford did repair some trucks ,but wasn't doing it now.
The contact owns a 1996 ford f150. The contact stated that the front fuel tank strap was corroded and caused a leak in the fuel tank. He took the vehicle to a local mechanic who repaired the strap but did not remedy the issue with the fuel leak. The contact then switched to using the rear fuel tank, in which he soon discovered that the there was also a leak coming from the rear tank.the manufacturer was contact who stated that there were no recalls for the failure and offered no further assistance. The contact proceeded to file a claim with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 92,000.

On sunday april 28, 2002we were driving the subject ford truck.when we returned home, the seat-belt on the passenger side would not unbuckle. After working with the belt for approximately 10 minutes,we had to cut the belt to allow my wife to get out of the truck. This problem had never happened before. On monday, april 29, 2002 , i contacted ft. Mill ford in ft. Mill, sc. I was told this does on occasion happen, and because the truck has over 50,000 miles, there is no warranty for the belt. My concern is that this problem could have resulted in a very serious situation had there been an emergency. If this is a common problem with these seatbelts, someone needs to correct this problem.
Driver's side seat belt will not latch. If the vehicle becomes involved in a crash.consumer would be without any restraint.dealer was not notified.
Vehicle's side bench seat caught on fire after a water bottle sat for 5 minutes, apparently the reflection through the window and glass caused the cloth material to catch on fire.

(abs) failure on the brakes systems caused the consumer to have a near accident.
Dt: on june 22, 2005 the consumer's ford f 150 began smoking under the hood while parked and turned off.the vehicle had been sitting for about 9 hours. The cruise control switch located on top of the master cylinder shorted out and looked like it was getting ready to catch on fire.the short melted the plastic reservior that holds the brake fluid to the point where it almost burned through. The owner removed the electrical connector to stop the burning. That connector was the cruise control switch. The part cooled off and the owners taped up the connector so it would not make any connection with any metal parts. The owners states that the vehicle was taken in to the ford dealership because the check engine light would come on. This had been a problem for about a year. The dealership would turn off the light off and tell the owner that the vehicle checked out alright on their computer. They could not find the problem. They thought it was an oxygen sensor. There was no fire or police report made. The owner took pictures of the part for his records. The dealership has been notified and they gave him a form letter to call the phone numbers on the list. The manufacturer has been notified also. They said they would review the information, and sent the owner a letter in the mail. Ford responded by saying that they could not fix the problem because it was not under recall. The vehicle has been regularly maintained. On the dashboard there is a blinking abs light that will not shut off because the part has been removed, therefore the owner can not get a inspection sticker on his vehicle, because the light is blinking. The owner can not correct the problem with the blinking light because the component needs to be fixed with the correct part.
Dt:the contact states whenit was damp or raining the brakes locked.the problem was intermittent, but has become constant.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they stated all ford trucks were made that way.there have been no corrections to the vehicle at this time.

When turning the wheel to the left and applying the brakes you hear a metal to metal grinding sound and bang. This vehicle has abs.
Whenever the weather is damp and vehicle has been parked for half hour or more, the brakes grab when touched. Also, they lock up and squeal on dry pavement.
When the roads are wet andabs brakes are applied, they would lock up. Had been to dealer several times.
The vehicle's rear anti-lock brake system malfunctions intermittently, causing the rear abs system wheels to lock up and vehicle skidded which almost caused numerous accidents.
Whenever the brakes are applied there is a loud squealing noise. This happens under any type of braking, no matter what the weather conditions are. The dealer is aware of the problem. The problem has not been corrected. Please describe details.

Owner states that brake line ruptured, causing brake failure.(the right front steel brake line ruptured) *scc
Total break failure, with no warning. Ford dealership (sterling ford) reported right side front breakline had rusted through allowing break fluid to drain.recommended replacement of all front breaklines and flex lines on both right and left side.cost $355. Concern is way didn't the rear breaks system provide some margin ofbreaking capacity. Why did both systems fail simulataneously?
The contact owns a 1996 ford f-150. The contact was notified by his mother that the vehicle was on fire while parked in the driveway. The contact noticed flames under the hood on the driver's side near the windshield. The contact was able to extinguish the fire. When the contact opened the hood, he noticed that the wiring harness, fuse box, and relay box were burned, and the master brake cylinder was completely melted. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 05v017000 (vehicle speed control). The fire department was not notified. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle was parked at an independent repair shop for inspection of the brakes due to a previous failure of the master cylinder and brake fluid leakage, when a fire erupted from the front under hood area and spread from the vehicle to the repair shop.no injuries were sustained.extensive damage was sustained to the vehicle and the repair shop.a police report was not taken.the fire department was alerted and extinguished the fire.the fire department inspected the vehicle and determined the fire originated from the master cylinder.the vehicle was awaiting further inspection by a manufacturer representative.there was a nhtsa recall, #05v388000, regarding the vehicle speed control. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 9/15/2006 -

Dt:1996 ford f150.the consumer stated the bearings in the steering wheel broke/snapped, and wore out.the tilt wheel moved up and down.this started about 3 years ago.this problem still has not been fixed.the consumer tried to obtain a steering column at a junk yard , but as soon as the vehicles came in the steering columns were gone.the steering column brand new cost more than the vehicle was worth.the vehicle had to be started with a screwdriver.nothing on the steering column worked.ford stated there was no recall, and there was nothing they could do.
Dt: 1996 ford f150 xlt pick up truck. The wheel assembly and the shaft on the driver side in the back slid out.the truck was being driven on a side road about 35 -40 mph when this happened.the mechanic toldthe consumerthat these vehicles were designed to fail.it was repaired at the cost of$1300.00.also,while trying to back out of the driveway the shifter was flopping around and a bolt fell out at the consumer'sfeet.the vehicle would not go into any gear.the bolt fell out of the steering column where the two halves meet.of the two bolts one fell out, and the other was very loose. The consumer was able to fix them with a retaining device with lock washers on both bolts. The third problem, was similar to the first problem.while driving someone ran a red light and the truck was hit on the passenger'sside.the wheel and shaftdisengaged from the rear axle.a police report was filed, and there were no injuries.the vehicle was totaled.updated 08/02/06.

After experiencing increasing sloppiness in steering, mechanic friend checked out the problem.one of the three bolts holding the steering box had backed out approximately 1 inch allowing the gear box to move away from the vehicle frame.contact with local dealer in virginia (truck originally bought in pa.) stated that the vehicle is beyond the three year/ 36,000 mile warranty.the stripped area on the steering gear box would require replacement of entire mechanism costing approximately $500.i identifed that there is no evidence of this part ever having been removed from the vehicle and that it appears to have been stripped when assembled.(assembly done in canada.) contact on monday (2/26) to the local ford customer inquiry line in chantilly, va did not reveal much - no service bulletin could be identified.i volunteered and gave them my vehicle number after providing them my address and a description of the problem - stating that it was an assembly problem and that the bolt was over tightened.i also went on todescribe that there was always a looseness in the steering and that recently it had gotten worse resulting in me drifting off of the road several times.it was only after my wife indicated that she too was experiencing a noticeable increased sloppiness in the steering and another recent drifting off the road, that i had a mechanic friend take a look at the steering and identify the problem.
Took back to the dealer several times, and they ignored it. Theysaid thatthis type of truck doesthis . No defect mentioned in summary.

I own a 1996 ford f150 4x4. The truck has not been used for any type of commercial duties that i'm aware of and the vehicle shows no signs of abuse. I had purchased the vehicle in 2004 in very good condition. Recently i noticed the left rear corner of the bed had dropped approximately 3/4" which has increased to over an inch. Further examination revealed that the rear spring support bracket had rotted through. The spring is presently supported by the truck bed. I have inspected the remaining rear spring supports and they are all in need of replacement. Apparently the materials ford is using to manufacture these components is not up to the task and the coating used to protect these supports only masks the problem until it's to late correct the problem. I've owned a number of ford trucks in the past with considerably more years on them than this vehicle and i've never had to replace the spring supports or any structuralcomponent. This vehicle has onlyten years of service and structural parts such as these should not be rotting away. I own three other ford truck products and they are all showing signs considerable deterioration (heavy rust) on chassis components coating process fordit using ( looks like powder coating) to protect the components is actually masking the problem until it's to late. I'm hoping that i can purchase replacement parts to correct this problem, otherwisei will be forced to procure a used set from a auto recycler. These supports provide attachment point for the rear suspension as well as maintain the rear axles alignment within the vehicle. These items should be able to provide a service life greater than ten years. There is a considerable safety issue in the fact that the average driver may not realize there is a problem until it's to late and the driver looses control of the vehicle.
Loud cracking or creaking sound wheneveer making a turn at any speed - started about 2 years ago very minor but now creaks quite alot - a tsb appplies but ford will not pay any money toward the repair despite the fact that this seems to be a common problem according to the shop manager at the dealership don izzet - the tsb states that rivets on the frame come loose and must be replaced with bolts - i think ford should pay for the repairs as it is a defect in the manufacturer.

Loud popping noise. Dealer was no help. Independant repair shop found and replaced control arm bushings. Originals had chemically deteriorated from application of slovents at some point at assembly. Repairs cost me $400. Attachment points were worn to the point of being oblong.
Oct 4, 2005-during annual state safety inspection, the inspector discoverewd that both front coil springs were broken. 1996 ford f150 4 x 4-both rear brackets connecting the leaf springs (rear of vehicle) to the frame were terrible corroded and cracked.mechanic was fearful of failure within a month or two. Replacement parts are only available from a ford dealership.called local dealership and was assured parts available. Upon arrival at the dealership, not all parts available as demand had been so great they kept running out of the parts.i had to go to a different dealership to obtain the rest of the parts. The replacement parts were of significantly heavier build than original parts. Have since been informed by my mechanic and others that mid 90s ford 150s and explorers are losing the brackets en masse. I consider this a significant safety issue as an important chasis component is more than likely to fail. These older trucks are now being handed down to high school kids. A failure at highway speeds will surely lead to inexperienced drivers panicking and over correcting at the time of failure. There was no accident, but based on the demand at a single dealership (i was told at the parts department that they had received 12 request for the very same part in one day. All requests were for either 1996 f150s or 1996 explorers).i consider that statistically significant and wished to bring it to your attention.thank you.

Rear leaf spring appears improperly installed.bracket replacement was done to 1997-1998 vehicles , would like further information concerning this problem. Dealer notified and informed consumer that 1997-1998 vehicles were recalled only.
Leaf springs damaged causing poor stability.

We were driving a 1996 ford f 150 4x2 in center lane of i 435 about 70 miles per hour when we had a rear driver side uniroyal laredo tire completly separate. This tire had about 33 psi pressure in it. This caused damage to the rear of truck. Cost unknown at this time. We gently pulled over to edge of interstate. When we got out of vehicle the bad tire was deflating. I changed this tire and put the spare on. I went back and picked up all of the pieces i could find. These tires are not the original tires. I had used these on another vehicle. They have been stored inside. The tread use was not extensive. I put these on the rear about this same time last year. These had a classification of m/s. This vehicle came with a goodyear highway tread tire. I wanted something on the rear for winter that had a m/s designation in case i was standed on road that required this. This was the first time something like this has happened to me. I have three more of these tires. I would like something done to assure my safety. Please advise. Thank you.(tiresize: 235/75/r15)( dot number: tire size: 235/75/r15 )
My wife and i went to georgia on vacation from texas. In mississippi while my wife was driving around 5-6 pm she had a tire separation in the drivers side rear. She was able to keep the truck under control and pulled over to the side of the road. The tread had separated from the tire but the tire did not lose the air. This is probably why she was able to control the truck. The tread slung around the wheel well and beat up the inside of the wheel well causing some visible damage. The truck has still not been repaired. I installed the spare tire on the vehicle and called it a night and got us a room. When i arrived in ga. I went to numerous tire dealers to try to find a matching tire to replace but was told that the tire was out of production but if i looked around i might find one. I finally did find on at a firestone dealer in atlanta. When i returned to texas i immediately removed the remaining firestone tires because i felt that something was not right and replaced them with 4 goodyear tires. I still have 2 of the original tires and the one i bought in ga. I believe in the garage. I did think about calling someone due to the damage to my truck but the firestone dealer in atlanta said that the tire was out of warranty and firestone would not do anything about it. I thought many times about making a complaint but did not know how to go about doing so until the recent press and congressional coverage. Consume rwas traveling about 44mph onhighway andheard a poppying noise coming fromreargeneral tire. Manufactuer was aware of problem.
Driving on the highway the tread separated from the tire. The tire did not deflate. The tread did extensive damage to the truck. It almost severed both gas lines, tore off wheel skirts, damaged rear 1/4 panel to the point that it needs to be replaced, damaged part of the rear bumper, and now i notice the rear gas tank is not venting properly. I took pictures of truck and tire.on the remaining reartireyou can see where the tread is going to peel off. I have e-mailed and phoned firestone all week and get no response at all. I am a self employed carpenter and need my truck to function properly.i only want the repairs to be paid for by firestone , no legal action should be necessary, i was not injured. I had purchased a new 1996 ford f150 pick-up truck.on april 2, 1999 while driving from baton rouge to houston on highway i10 the rear passenger tire blew out (driving at 70 mph).the outer tread had blown off but the inner tube maintained pressure.when it blew, the outer tread destoyed the tail pipe as well as the tire-well mud guard.the tail pipe was replaced.the mud guard was not (the frame hole holding one end of the guard was ripped open and is no longer useable).about a month later, the truck began experiencing severe vibration problems (local driving at speeds less than 45 mph).the ford dealer identified the problem as the tread coming loose from the tire on the front passenger side.on june 18 1999 i had the dealer replace the remaining tire with new ones.all together, it cost me $373.81 to replace the tires and tail pipe.i still have a damaged truck (tire well guard never replaced.)( dot number: tire size: 75rx15xl )

A fire occurred under the hood of our 1996 ford f-150, destroying the whole front end and into the cab.truck is a total loss.no one was hurt, and it was parked on my job parking lot, away from any close vehicles.i had just driven to work.i arrived to work as a security officer at 11:20p.m. And at 12:50a.m. The truck was in flames.we bought it used in march 2008 and had never heard of any recalls or any defects.it was a very clean, well kept truck.we received one recall notice in late november early december 2008(during holidays) about a speed control switch.the letter stated that the vehicle could ignite at any time.it gave no warning signs to look for and stated if we could not get it in right away to park it away from any dwellings.my husband is disabled, he couldn't just run down there, and it was the holidays as well.i looked up the recall online after the fire, and it stated the potential for a fire was small, and it gave warning signs to look for on the vehicle.why weren't those warnings explained in the recall notice??to our knowledge, the truck was 12 years old and ran like a new one.how could it have been over-looked all those years?this was devastating to us, it could have been much worse and killed someone.the truck was 3/4 full of fuel.

I have a 1996 ford f-150 pickup truck.the truck caught on fire on april 20, 2005, at a ford repair facility, while it was there for repair.the fire initiated at the cruise control deactivation switch, which is located on the master brake cylinder.items affected by the fire included the cruise control deactivation switch, the master brake cylinder and power brake diaphragm, melted covers, hoses and wiring, and burned and scorched the hood, pealing a large spot of the paint.the truck has just 77,986 miles.photographs of the damage are available on request.even though this switch is the same part, identified with the same part number by ford, and the same design as that currently under recall in model years 2000 ? 2001, ford has refused to pay for the repairs.i learned about this decision from a conversation i had with the service representative.the estimated cost for the repairs, using some used components, is about $1,000.when i called the parts department at the dealership, i was informed that the current switch is no longer available.it would be replaced with a new design, the same as on the recall for the 2000 ? 2001 models.the new part includes a switch (transducer), as well as a jumper cable containing a new diode and plug.the new part sells for $24.29.it is fortunate that this fire occurred while the unit was parked outside of the repair facility.it would have been much more serious if it were inside the building, exposing the mechanics to smoke and fire.this truck is driven by my 18 year old daughter to and from school and around town. I had the truck in for repairs to be assured that when she started college next fall the unit would be reliable for her.had this switch caused a fire while she was driving we could have lost her.that is just not acceptable! the recall should be expanded to include all of the units that have this cruise control deactivation switch.too many people are at risk.
1996 ford f150had made a short trip to home depot.approximately 1 hr. Later i smelled what seemed like burning tar. I looked and there was a large amount of smoke coming from under my hood.. Upon inspection i found the cruise control brake switch smoking profusely, a small flame. And extremely hot. I unplugged it and the immediate problemstopped.. The switch is burnt and melted. If i had not been outside and found this even 5 minutes later. I would now have a burnedtruck. This is the same switch that ford has recalled on the 2000 models.and admitted to having a problem as far back as the 97 models. But not on 96.i have checked their web site and there is no recall on this year. I will be taking it to the local ford dealership soon.. But was wondering if you had any more complaints on this model for this problem.

Early one evening about 8:00pm a driver in an non-knowledgeable area is trying to find his way by looking at street signs and addresses. Can't see safely enough to safely maneuver his vehicle through out the city. The population is at risk, his sight is impaired by the view through his dull, fuzzy lights. This has been a situation due to neglect, the law doesn't confront the situation and have it corrected, why?
Switch for power doors and windows failed.
Power window wiring to regulator switch failed.
