My 1994 ford f-150 lightning seems to have the same type of problems reported by others in the complaint database on this site. I have the intermitent air bag warning light, loss of cruise control, and loss of horn. I was not aware that the airbag is no longer functional due to this. There are many entrees with the same brocken clockspring at fault. It would seem that ford has a dangerous defect that can compromise the safety of its customers. I hope that something can be done to remedy this problem without ford socking every owner with a $250.00 charge for their defective product. I also have the brocken plastic dash mount on the passenger side, which causes extreme dash bouncing at the slightes bump. I have looked on later model trucks with the same dash and the mounting bracket is different, it would seem ford diagnosed this problem but will not fix it in previous models. I hope that this information will be followed up with the manufacture and might cause some good.
Apparently there is a problem with the "clockspring" in the steering column of the 1994 ford f-150.when this breaks, as it apparently often does, there is an open circuit between the air bag & the sensors rendering the airbag inoperable.i have not been in contact with the manufacturer yet, only the dealer.i just wanted others to know of this potential hazard.i found a forumon a google search on my problem (1994 ford f-150 flashing a code 32).with parts & labor this is going to be approximately $250.00 to repair. Ford truck enthusiasts forumssubject: "94 f150 electrical trouble"non-member "94 f150 electrical trouble"i just bought a 1994 ford f150 ext. Cab 4x4 at an auction for 7700. Runs and looks great but has wiring problem. No cruise or horn, airbag light blinks, blinkers work intermittently, int. Light comes on dim when brakes applied, no stereo, and oil pressure gauge reads far left at low idle but fine otherwise. Non-member 1. "re: 94 f150 electrical trouble"i don't have an answer for you, but i feel your pain. My air bag light just started flashing a code 32 (or 23). My cruise-control and horns also quit working. I'll let you know something when i get mine fixed. Good luck. Non-member 3. "re: 94 f150 electrical trouble"i've got much the same problem with my 94 lightning. No horn, no cruise, air bag 32 code. Some one told me it could be the slip rings. Any updates? club fte member 5. "re: 94 f150 electrical trouble"no horn, cruise, air bag light on. Replace clockspring.7. Re: 94 f150 electrical troublefor some reason all the trucks we have owned from 92 on up seem to have a lot of problems inside the steering column with wiring.non-member 8. "re: 94 f150 electrical trouble"i have the same truck. The clock spring will have to be replaced. My truck is going on its third clock spring. According to the local dealer they are having a lot of problems with the clock springs and they are selling a lot of them.*la
Air bag flashing a code and the horn no longer works.local dealer reported the "clock spring" has failed and is not covered by warranty or current recall, repair costs would be around $150.dealer reports that the air bag may or may not work in an accident. I did not have the repairs done.recent research at your site noted other '94 fords having the same problem. Wanted to add to those reports because, like me, there are probably thousands of other owners that are driving around with a flashing air bag warning light or paid for the repair that should have been a "recall" because of some defect.
It is my understanding that the clock spring in the steering column is defective on this particular pick-up truck.i have talked with other truck owners that have had the same problem.it involves the air bag warning light, the turn signals, and the cruise control.it appears that this is a safety issue that should be dealt with by the manufacturer.

My question is why did the air bag not deploy?the dealership reported on this form replaced the clock spring on the airbag maybe 6 months to a year ago.they also said that the bag would not deploy unless accident was at 28 mph and like hitting a stone wall without breaking.my son rear ended a neon hitting directly in the center of the truck bumper causing extensive damage to the trunk of the neon.the truck damage is that the bumper must be replaced as it bent and cracked along with bending the 1/4" brackests that attach it to the frame.the grill also needs to be replaced.i'm concerned because the dealership commented that if the airbag light is not on its operating correctly along with 28 mph comment.who's to say the bulb is not out or they connected the wires when the work was done or it's just not operable.being a life saving devise i'm a bit shaken because i don't have a good feeling that it would deploy.is it possible to clarify if what the dealership said is correct that it would not deploy unless accident was at or above 28 mph?the dealership did not give me the impression they would look at it either unless of course i was billed.thank you for your assistance in this matter.

At 2:00 a.m., on august 3, 2004 my 1994 f150 xlt extended cab 4x4 started on fire. There was only fire coverage on the 1999 grand am and not enough insurance to completely rebuild the garage. Alternator pigtail plug is non heat resistant therefore spontaniously combusts. According to auto parts dealersand different mechanics who bear this out that ford has a consistant problem with this plug. Napa auto parts will not warranty alternators without switching this plug in certain fords. Seems to me there is a silent hazard here.
Alternator wiring failure.
I have replaced the alternator on my f150 five times in five years.twice the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator was melted.i bought my current altenator at napa with a lifetime warranty 6 months ago.i had to cut my factory original plug off the harness and splice in the wires from the new alternator.so far so good, but they always last about a year anyway.i think they fail because of the excess heat from the exhaust manifold.there is olny a couple of inches between the two.i plan to build a shield to reflect the heat away from the alternator and wiring.

I drove this truck two hours prior to fire which resulted in a total loss, with an addtional amount of property damage of $2,000. The truck ran very well that morning. I drove it a distance of aprrox. 40 miles, no warning lights, no smells nothing. I had the truck parked at home for approx. 2 1/2 hours when i heard the alarm beep once so i proceeded to the truck and noticed a heavy amount of smoke coming from the wheel well on the front left side, and also the grill area. At this point i called 911, and went back to the truck to try to pull the hood release, but there were flames coming out of the grill area. The fire soon spread through the fire wall into the interior compartment, i probably threw 20 buckets of water on the fire prior to fire dept. Getting here and was un-successful in putting it out. Fortunenatly i did not have the truck parked inside the attached garage at the time. Our family has been in the automotive business since 1948 and i am familiar with strange noises, smells, etc.. There was no fuel leaks on this truck, it was serviced regularly, and for a 1994 model it was in excellant condition, i have many recent photos confirming the vehicle condition. I want to know of any recalls that this truck may have had or not had and would appreciate knowing the exact cause of such a devastating fire. I had this truck parked in an enclosed garage for the last week or so, there was absolutely no smell of fuel in that garage, the first smoke i smelled was of insulation buring off of the electrical wiring. I would prefer getting the opinion of nhtsa prior to having ford try to discount the findings if possible.thank you, david a. Reinking.

Ford f150 truck 1994engine fire truck is equipped with cruise controltruck was used and turned off.engine fire spontaeously started and cause a total loss of the truckfire dept said they thought it was an electrical fire.other damage included concrete driveway which was charred and pitted out due to the intense heat. Only had liability on the vechicle so no insurance claim was able to be filed. This incident sounds like the ones involved in the ford f150 recalls. I called to report it to insurance for safety of other f150 owners but no one wanted my information. I didn't know where else to report it until i saw the article about extending the recall investigation to 1995 models. I encourage you to extend it down to at least 1994. Thank yoususan marshall
Truck had been parked for 12 hours on driveway. I had just left my residence and 10 minutes later was notified truck was on fire. As i left i had to back past the truck( 2 feetaway) i saw no smoke or smelled anything. When i returned to house fire deptwas putting out fire. Fire was concentrated on left front fender just above wheel in the area of the power distribution box.neighbor advised the fire wascoming out under left front side above tire ,when he called fire dept. The truck was in excellent condtion. There had been no work performed on vehicle.
On july 6,2005 my 1994 ford f150 truck was in my driveway. I had driven my vehicle earlier that morning.was parked in my driveway and was told by a neighbor that my truck was on fire. Extinguished the fire and had it towed to dealer. Was informed that the cruise control deactivation switch overheated and caused it to burn up the master cylinder along with it. The paint on my hood was burned off. I was informed of a problem with this part catching on fire. My vehicle is a 1994. The recall is on 1995. I believe this is also affecting the 94's.
I have recently had a problem with the same part of the cruise control shutoff switch that has just been issued for the 2000 f-150 pickup. My truck is not a 2000, but it is 1994 f-150. My cruise control would not work then one day my brake lights stopped workihg, so i checked the bulbs thinking they were bad.i found the bulbs were still good, so i checked the fuses.one of the fuses were bad. When i replaced the fuse i was unprepared for the smoke that came rolling out from under the hood of my truck. In a panic, i popped the hood of my truck and pulled the wires out of the switch just in time to see the switch on the front of my master cylinder glowing red hot, and the plastic melting in a smoke cloud of brake fluid. I have just replaced the part and am concerned of the problem reoccurring again if this is a recalled part, i would like to know what i can do to prevent this from happening again.

Fuse for break/hazard lights blew. When new fuse was installed, wiring on break master cylinder assembly immediately ignited burning entire assembly to the level of break fluid. The fire was put out, it did not stop on its own.
Clockspring assembly failed (cruise control ceased functioning).upon disassembly of clockspring assembly i found that the lubricant used to lubricate the ribbon cable had congealed and was causing drag in the ribbon cable to housing interface.this was most likely the cause of the cable failure (broken conductor). This is a significant failure due to the fact that the air bag circuit is also carried by this mechanism.
Wiring harness melted. *sd
Electrical panel under dash board caught on fire.asconsumer was driving, lights went out and fire began. Harness wires were burned. Also, fuel tank had a hole at thestrap assembly.dealer replaced tank at consumer's expense.both incidents may have caused extensive fire damage to vehicle.

While the truckwas sitting in a parking garage for over 5 hours it caught on fire in the wiring, under dash and burn out. The truck was totalled.
My wife parked the truck in front of our garage at approximately 4 p.m. On june 3, 2004.at 5 p.m., my wife left in another vehicle and returned about 5:30 p.m., and the truck was sitting in the same spot, undamaged. At 6:30 p.m. A neighbor knocked on the door asking if she knew the truck was on fire.the truck had not moved in that 2-1/2 hour period.the interior, the engine compartment, and exterior accessories were destroyed by the fire.i was not aware of an electrical problem with ford f150 trucks until i recently read a newspaper article about a similar occurrance.then, on january 8, an acquaintance told me about a news report on a dallas tv station concerning the cruise control problems with the ford f150s. I feel that ford motor company has an obligation to replace my truck, as they were aware of the problem and did not notify me or any other f150 owners of the potential fire hazard.the fire was coming from the engine compartment on the drivers side.only problem noticed before fire was that it would cut out some time.sometimes the cruise control would work and sometime it would not.liability only.will e-mail photos to bruce york.no aftermarket equipment.no c&o done.

I own a 1994 ford f-150. The oil pan gasket failed and the oil pan has rusted thru. This causes oil to splash onto the exhaust, smoke and possibly catch fire while polluting the environment. Everyone i have talked with, who drives a 1992 to 1996 f-150 has the same problem and check out www.ford-trucks.com were you will find hundreds of f-150 owners with the same problem (search f-150 oil pan). I called several dealerships in my area for an estimate on this repair. Each and every dealer stated this is a common problem with these f-150s we repair about three a week. One dealership even told me ford outsourced these parts and they were manufactured from foreign steel thats porous and rust from the inside out. I contacted fords customer service center that stated the vehicle is out of warranty and basically tough luck. I would consider it general maintenance, but not when every f-150 owner has had the same problem and ford representatives tell me this is a common problem.
The contact owns a 1994 ford f-150. While driving approximately 60-70 mph the engine suddenly caught on fire without warning. She drove onto the emergency lane and attempted to put out the flames. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer notified the manufacturer and they sent an representative to investigate the failure. The representative advised her that the fire started on the left side of the engine. The vehicle was destroyed. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were over 200,000.

Engine oil pan has little cracks or holes whichcannot beseen throughvisible eyes, but has an oil leak, which may cause a fire if there is a source of ignition. The cause for oil leak is found to be a porous metal of the oil pan.
The oil pan is rusting through, and requires replacement.by calling the dealership, another repair facility, and through annecdotal evidence, i have learned of 13 other 93-94 f150 trucks (as well as some vans of those model years) that have had their oil pans replaced this year alone.i have never had an oil pan rust out before, so the evidence at hand leads me to believe that there is an overall manufacturing defect.safety issue: i could loose all of my oil without warning (the rusty area is brittle & oozing oil), and the engine could be destroyed.
Oil pan leaking oil. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.

Consumer vehicle caught on fire damaging the vehicle and the siding of the residence. *sc
My oil pan gasket has slid out of location. No work was done to cause this. Ford has a problem with this and is not addressing it. My truck is currently leaking oil on the ground every day,as probably are hundreds of other ford truck pans. My truck is leaking about 1 quart a week, thats 52 quarts a year , running off into our enviroment! i think if ford is concerned about our enviroment, they should repair these at no cost to the customer. Also ford oil pans are rusting through causing the same impact on the enviroment. The dealerships claim this is a common problem, and continues to be. Iso 14001you tell me? thanks for letting me spout off. I'm currently lookig at japanese auto to replace this truck.
Consumer noticed oil indriveway.inspected vehicle and noticed oil pan was rusted through.consumer states he contacted dealership, and was told that repairs might have been covered if he had received his regular maintenance there, but because consumer had his oil changed somewhere else he was advised he was not a loyal customer, therefore he would be responsible for repairs.
There is an oil leak from the oil pan, which is rusting.
Engine crankshaft failed, also front wheel bearing and cruise control failure.
The oil pan rusted through, and leaked engine oil over the road and in the garage.the consumer requested reimbursement for repair.mrscc
Oil pan on ford models are know to rot.this is a wide spread problem and ford seems to know nothing about it?if this pan lets go thats 6 quarts on the ground or sewer.i called ford numerous times and they just give you the run around.
My 1994 f150 pickup truck was taken in for service and was found to have an oil pan gaket leaking. The leak was discoverd in march of 2002. I had herd from a local news station that ford motor company had a recall for this problem. I notified ford and was told that thay had no information i feel ford should correct this problem do to the fact the gasket is defected, also its a danger with oil leaking on the hot exaust which may cause a fire.
When ever reversing the vehicle, the engine would stall/die out for no reason; placed vehicle in parkto restart.its an intermittent problem. Have not taken to dealer as of yet.

Rust and corrosion developed onoil pan which caused oil leakages; dealer/ manufacturer were contacted. Feel free to provide any further information concerning this matter.
Consumer had taken vehicle for an oil changeand found out that oil pan had a rusted hole, and oil had been leaking through. Manufacturer refused to repair. To replace the oil pan, the engine must be removed and the cost was high.
0il pan has prematurely rusted frominside and outside.also, developed bubbles which has resulted in oil leakage.please give any further details.
Replaced leaking rear engine seal.
Consumer tookvehicle in for oil change, andmechanic pointed out a hole inside of the oil pan. Ford used recycleed oil pans. Oil pan was leaking out oil from underneath.he contacted ford at this time there is a solution. The gasket and the oil pan failed due to incorrect metal used by manufacturer.

Consumerhad to replace engine three times due to head gasket blowout.engine will overheat without a prior warning, vehicle will lose power.please provide more infomation.
Ford claims that the engine can leak 1qt/900 miles under normal use and still be within tollerances.they claimed this was in my owners manual.it is not.it is in a book they keep in their office which the consumer does not see.this kind of leakage is unacceptable!!!

I own a 1994 ford f150 truck. The bolt that holds the serpentine tensioner to the bracket on the engine snapped off while i was traveling on the freeway.i lost total power in the brakes and steering as i was exiting on a sharp turn. Later upon inspection it appeared that the bolt already had a fracture in it prior to snapping off.i am trying to find the specific bolt to only replace it because i cannot afford to replace the entire tensioner part. The mechanic that is trying to replace the bolt said that the problem was most likely caused by the manufacturer installation. None of the ford service departments here in san antonio, texas had ever heard of this occuring and kept asking if i knew what i was talking about, and were shocked when i showed them the entire part with broken bolt and all.i am frustrated at having to find just the bolt and ford has said i had to buy the entire part!

Brake light fuse failure. Trouble shooting found a short at the cruise control switch on top of the brake master cylinder. This short was caused by the switch leaking brake fluid thru it to the electrical connector above and was still cooking long after the engine was shut off. I replaced the switch and fixed the problem. When i complained to the parts mgr @ texas motors dealership in ft wth, tx about the danger of this discovery he laughed and replied "we sell lots of those switches". That was november of 2004. The truck is a 1994 f150. Their fix for this problem now is to simply bypass this safety switch with a jumper wire inlieu of replacing a poorely designed part with a better desighed part and look the other way on safety. Is this what we can expect in the future from ford? should i sell my new sport track before it burnes down and buy one from another mfg? i hope ford will treat this problem better than they did the fuel tanks on the pinto and crown victiria. I hope this is not what the american way has come to. Thanks.

Dash on right side moves up and down when driving down the road, found the mounting tab (made of plastic) broken on the right side by door.when driving with headlights on they will go off and then come back on sometimes in a second or two, other times if the lights are turned off and then back on they will work for awhile. Have checked the wiring and bulb size and it all seems to be alright. Any help with this will be greatly apprecieted.

All of intermittent windshield wiper settings do not work all of the time.additionally, sometimes i must "jiggle" the turn signal assembly to acctivate the headlights.more than once i have been driving for an undetermined amount of time before i realize my headlights are not working.i have had this part replaced before for he same problems.my wife owns a '98 ford explorer, same problem.a friend owns a '98 ford taurus, same problem.is this a safety related item that the manufacturer must keep replacing free of charge?
The contact owns a 1994 ford f-150. The contact stated that while fueling the rear tank, approximately one gallon of fuel started emerging from the front tank. The contact stopped fueling and called the fuel station attendant to report the fuel spill. The contact also stated noticing the smell of fuel emerging out of the front tank when refueling the rear tank twice. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact did not take the vehicle to get it diagnosed but contacted the dealer butch oustalet in gulfport, mississippi by phone. The dealer advised to bring the vehicle in for a diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,524.

1994 ford f-150 has a leaky fuel tank due to rusting tank straps.
A malfunctioning check valve within the fuel pump assembly causes a portion of the unused fuel from one tank to be returned to the second tank. When this occurs, the capacity of the second tank can be exceeded, causing fuel spillage.
Fuel cross flow problem..ford had a recall on vehicles with problems of fuel pumping into an already full tank with a two fuel tank system. Check valves not operating correctly and fuel would be pumped onto the ground from the vehicle. Ford corrected the problem with certain years of vehicles including one of my personal vehicles . My son now who also ownsa similar vehicle they will not fix this problem with and it is a serious safety issue as it pushes fuel (gasoline) onto the ground and into the garage where it becomes a potential fire hazard. Ford has been contacted and refuse to correct the problem.
The contact owns a 1994 ford f-150. The contact stated that fuel spilled out from the filler neck while refueling. This problem was cause for a recall from 1990 through 1993, this recall (#93s68) was put out in sept. Of 1993.my truck was built in sept. Of 1993, it's listed as a 1994 model thus not included in the recall by ford.this is the same problem, fuel spillage from over filled tank due to a damaged check valve in the fuel pump/sender assembly. The danger is no less than it was one month prior for trucks with this promblem which were under recall. I have called 3 ford dealers in my area none were willing to take responsibility for repairs.i called ford customer assistance center and was told that ford would not take responsibility because my truck was not part of the recall.i then asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that it would do no good because that was fords policy and it didn't matter who i spoke to.i will be writting to ford presently to inform them in writting at least for the record.
My f-150 has had noisy brakes that vibrate, wear excessively fast and stop poorly since my father bought the truck new, i have replaced pads, rotors17 times, and calipers twice, my father was involved in an accident because of them but ford refuses to admit there is a problem. My rear fuel tank sends all the fuel to the front tank while the engine is running, until the front tank is full, then it spills all over the ground causing a fire hazard. Ford admitted that some 1993 trucks had this problem and recalled some of them but said the problem was corrected and my 1994 truck can't have that problem but everyone i know with a 1994 f-150 has this problem, and when i checked on fordtrucks.com, many 1994 f150 owners have the same problem, also many 1994 f150 owners also had my same airbag problem. When will you guys pressure ford into fixing these serious safety issues.
Looking at previous years 89 through 93.this problem had occurred and a recall was performed, but as of this date no recall for the year 94. No safety defct listed in summary.

While driving around town vehicle stalled.took vehicle to a local mechanic. Consumerwas told that there is afuel tank delivery module defect. Gas is filling up into the used tank, causing the vehicle to stall out.
Front fuel tank leaks just above seam line approx 1and1/2 inches above seam. The seam is at an angle.the front of the tank is pitted. There is a protective cover on the front that is molded to the shape of the tank .there are no drain holes in the cover. If the cover is pushed all the way back to the seam the water will stay above the seam. The design does not allow moisture to run off if the vehicle is parked ina foward pitch as mine is at my home.also if you look in between the bed and the cab , at that point you see that the tank slopes foward toward the front of the vehicle. Also at that point you see the protective cover just at the cab line. Had the cover gone past the bedline more than likely this problem would not happen. I have patched the front tank because of the fumes, but i do not use it.
Consumer has discovered that both of the gas tanks on the vehicle leak.the rear tank leaks badly after it has been filled.consumer is concerned of a possible fire because the gas leaks onto the tail pipe.fuel leaks are coming from the front and the rear fuel tanks.*jg

This vehicle has dual fuel tanks. The front tank supplies gas to the motor. The rear tank does not seem to fuel the motor. Gas from the front tank is forced into the rear tank until it is pressurized to the point ofcoming out through the cap. If the cap is removed, both fumes and gas spill out of the filler neck. I am reading now that this is a problem with this vehicle during or around the 1994 time frame. Is ford attempting to correct this problem? this is not the first time i have had this problem. It has happened in 2011, 2012, 2013 and now in 2014, but i've never known this could be a factory defect.

Truck leaks gasoline when both tanks are full.took to an independent mechanic who detected a problem with the fuel pump.rear tank pumps its fuel to the front tank.when the front tank is full, the gas leaks in the engine compartment in an area beneath the battery.the 1993 fords were recalled for this issue.build date on this truck is 01/94
This is an a serious ongoing problem.this ford f-150 has dual gas tanks, front and rear. In this truck the front tank is somehow getting over filled as you drive along and spews fuel. Remove the cap and gas gushes out. A little googling showed that this has happened to a lot of f-150s.having happened to a number of these trucks there must be a recall or at least a technical service bulletin that said what needed to be done to fix it. This must be covered by a safety recall. Most recalls seem to be for relatively minor issues. This is a serious issue. Most recalls don't fix problems that approach the hazard to life and property that would be endangered if the vehicle burst into flame.[xxx][xxx]or text to [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

Hydraulic clutch slave cylinder fails in extreme cold weather, preventing shifting.no parts are available due to nation-wide back order.
After coming to a stop, the clutch assembly failed.cause unknown.
When driving at any speed and applying the clutch, when pushing the clutch in, the clutch is real hard. A spring would push consumer's foot off the clutch, and the vehicle will jump.when in first and reversegears, vehicle jumps alot, which can cause consumer to lose control of vehicle while driving.
While shifting the gears the clutch failed to move on its own.a loud banging noise was heard coming from the front.consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the clutch neededto be replaced to the solenoid switch.
Ive had to replace the steering gear box,the clutch, and two altenators in which one ended in a fire which cost a considerable about of damage, the parts store had told me that ford was having this problem in the electrical system and i would like to know why the consumer wasn't notified of this ,in the end results it almost burned my vehicle up.
With clutch pedal depressed and transmission in gear, vehicle moves without warning.failure is dut to the clutch slave cylinder leaking fluid which allows clutch to engage even with the pedal depressed.problem appears worse in cold weather.
Problem relates to the bushing in the clutch pedal linkage. It fails without warning while shifting the transmission.it not only acts as the lubricating bushing in the linkage, but also the keeper that holds the clutch pedal linkage together where it joins the actuating rod of the clutch master cylinder. The first time that it failed, and all subsequent times, the clutch pedal drops to the floor, leaving the driver with no way to shift using the clutch.if the vehicle is moving and the operator knows how to perform a shift without the clutch pedal, the vehicle can be driven to a safe location. Otherwise, one is left at the place that it came apart, wondering how to connect the linkage together so that the vehicle can be shifted. To correct the problem, a replacement bushing is required. It snaps into the loop of the clutch master cylinder rod, which then snaps onto the clutch pedal linkage. This has happened approximately 6 times during the 10 years that i've owned the vehicle, the first time at about 3 years of age. Then approximately every 18 to 24 months. Today the bushing broke that i replaced abouth 3 months ago. I now always carry a new spare bushing. I put in the spare bushing, and after about 4 shifts, the new bushing began to fail. A piece cracked off. I have the most recently replaced bushing if needed for research.

This could have had catastrophic results had it happened on the open road. Why no previous warnings to a brake problem?
Steering power pump pipes were replaced at 42ooo miles, the power steering hydraulic tubing rusted throuth and leaked causing power steering fluid to leak out.brake line tubing rusted through and brake fluid leaked out, causing a brake loss, later consumer took vehicle to dealer with a complaint of the right front brake locking up, dealer replaced the front brake hoses, dealer had trouble unscrewing the brake line tubing fitting nut and broke the tubing because the nut had rusted to the tubing and the thread, consumer feels this should be taken care of by ford because it is a safety defect.

Pe00 020;consumer was going to work andvehicle was parked.then,he went to start vehicle, and noticed thattire on the left rear driver's side tire had blownout from sitting in the yard. Tire is a firestone fr480, p23575r15, vdhldot. Consumer stated that he had contacted firestone.
Two of the general tires supplied as original equipment on this vehicle experienced tread delamination and formed large bulges in the tread area--about 12" in length x the tread width at approximately 25,000 miles--within a few weeks of one another--in mid 1995.both bulges occurred at highway speeds--65-70 mph.both occurred on rear tires.the truck included no cargo except for 2 to 3 occupants.the tread wear at the time of failure was about 60-70 percent, and at the time i did not believe such a defect was pursueable as a warranty item with the manufacturer.being somewhat concerned about the quality of these original tires, i then replaced all four of the tires with michelins, and have had no problems with these replacement tires.the original tires were consistently maintained at or near recommended tire pressures.given the recalls of firestone tires since then, i now suspect a manufacturing defect existed. (tiresize: l235/75r15)
I did not know who else to report my concerns about the tires on my truck so i am hoping i am not wasting your time by filling this out.when i took my truch in to firestone to have my tires inspected they said they passed inspection, or in their words "they could visibly see nothing wrong with them" but they would not give it to me in writing.after i got home and looked at the form they had filled out, it stated that i had "requested no inspection - miscellaneous check".what does that mean?after seeing a closeup of a firestone wilderness at tire from a wreck on the cbs news i noticed that the tire looked worn just like my tires are wearing.my tires are only 2 yrs old, i replaced my original tires with the firestone wilderness at in july 1998.i firmly believe that there is a big coverup with these tires and that all of them should be recalled.thank you for your time.( dot number: w2hl1py038 tire size: 235/75 r15 )

Purchased the car used with 19000 miles. The original spare was new when the second set of tires were needed. Went to firestone and said sell me 3 new ones just like the spare. After about half the life of the tires or more, i was driving down the interstate at 70mph on 11-14-98 at 3:00 am in the morning going goose hunting with my two boys. All the tread completetly peeled off the right rear tire and i fishtailed down the interstate. Luckliy nobody else was on the road. The tire did not blow out and still had air in it when i got stopped. I changed the spare in the dark with a flashlight and went on. The next day i went to firestone and had the tire adjusted. The next following day i noticed the tire had badly damaged the fenderwell above that tire. Went back to firestone and complained why they didnt tell me and requsted they fix it.they first told me nothing could be done without thedamaged tire which theysuppossedly threw away.i choose not to fix the damage immediately. About a month and a half later a large bubble appeared on the front left tire (one of the three purchased with the second set) where the tread was starting to separate. I took this tire to firestone(same place) and also paid to have it adjusted. After threating to sue for previous damage they referred me to the manufacture in ohio (i think it could have been illinois). I took that tire home. After several disscussions with the manufacture i received a complaint form got 3 estimates on the previous damage and shipped the second tire to them.in may of 99 they paid an adjusted claim of about $1200.00.within a few weeks of that payment the third tire of (3) lost a large piece ofits tread. Luckily it broke off and hit underneath the car and didn't do any damage. I paid to have this tire adjusted also. I also still have this tire. Just wanted to complain and encourage this brand to be recalled. Haven't had any problems with the adjusted ones yet, but worry about them with the recent recall

I can't understand why a vehicle less than 10 years old would have these problems when the exhaust system is still like new. The fuel tank leak was pretty bad. I didn't knowif i'd make it home without any problems. Ford said they are unaware of this problem. The place i bought the new tank and oil pan said that these are chronic problems.dt
My son's father was killed in an accident on march 2, 1995. I would like to find any information on this vehile that would help me in understanding why this accident happened. Ford notified me of recall 05s28 concerning a brake fluid contamination problem. The wiring harness connected to the deactivation switch could catch fire. The wire was changed but the switch was not. The switch was wet with fluid in the fall and the wire was unplugged on 7-07-06 the dealer changed the wire but not the switch which is leaking. On 8-5-06 i unplugged the wire to check for fluid and it was wet. A ford technician verified that it was wet and i contacted ford and they told me the matter was closed as far as they were concerned. My understanding is if the switch is wet both parts are to be changed but ford is giving me the run around. A person at customer relations told me to take it back to verify the leak and i did. It is wet the whole way through. I would like to know why the company will not fix the problem as they should. If someone can help me out it would be appreciated as ford won't give me any satisfaction.

- the contact stated that his cruise control on his 1994 ford f-150 stopped working in 2003 at a failure mileage of 170,000.the contact didn't have the problem repaired.the vehicle currently has an odometer reading of 200,000 miles.the contact received a recall letter, campaign #05v388000 on december 19, 2006 for the vehicle speed control failure.the contact drove the vehicle to newbury ford on january 10, 2007 to honor the recall and was denied due to previous recall notices mailed to the contact although the contact stated they only received the most recent recall notice.updated 02/16/07.
When accelerating to merge onto the freeway, the throttle (pedal) suddenly moved of its own accord to a completely full throttle position. The pedal moved on its own from beneath my foot, just as it would if the cruise control was engaged.it stayed in this stuck position while meanwhile, to keep the vehicle under control, i stood on the brake to avoid accelerating to top speed. By constant application of the brake i was able to keep the vehicle speed at around 85 mph, but not without extreme effort. Meanwhile i tried pushing all of the cruise control switches, with no effect. I also tried pumping the brake in an attempt to get the cruise control release switch to activate, but it didn't help. I also tried shifting to neutral but the engine was obviously going to redline so i put it back in drive. I continued this way for several miles. Traffic was luckily light enough that i was able to avoid other vehicles. I was at the point of having to pull over and switch the ignition off when there was a loud "popping" sound from under the dash (straight in front of the driver). When the "pop" occurred the throttle released and i was able to control it normally. By then my brakes were smoking and almost on-fire.this occurred twice. The first time was on march 17, 2009 and the second was on march 27. The first time it cleared itself after a couple of miles. The second time was much worse and lasted for at least five or six miles. I took the vehicle in to the dealer (la point ford, salt lake city) after it occurred on the 27th. The mechanic could find no problem with the cruise control tests that he ran. They suggested disconnecting the cruise control to see if the problem would still occur, just in case it was the engine computer rather than the cruise control.hopefully i will survive the test. Luckily both times it happened i wasn't near another car. Had i been, i would have run into them before i was able to react. If this occurs to others someone will be killed.
My 1994 ford f-150 with only 58,000 miles was parked for about an hour when it caught on fire.the truck was an absolutely perfect condition inside and out except for the cruise control, which was not working.i was looking at the dealer web site and found out my vehicle had a recall.however ford never sent my a recall notice.
It is my understanding that the clock spring in the steering column is defective on this particular pick-up truck.i have talked with other truck owners that have had the same problem.it involves the air bag warning light, the turn signals, and the cruise control.it appears that this is a safety issue that should be dealt with by the manufacturer.

Thanks.
1994 ford f150 caught on fire in the engine compartment.*mrthe cruise control was possibly the cause of the fire.
Cruise control doesn't activate. No activation light when on switch depressed. Already had to change out the clocking mechanism, cost $300.00+. Now get an intermittent airbag light, horn is sporadic. Also on 3rd transmission due to that defective efod transmission. Haven't towed anything. Piece of crap. I'll never buy another ford.
My room mate was giving me a ride to the airport in my 1994 ford f-150.we got two blocks, and smoke started coming out of the hood.we pulled over to look under the hood and the cruise speed control device was smoking.the smoke stopped when the engine was turned off.we turned around and parked it in the driveway.i looked under the hood again, and there was no smoke.i called a friend to give me a ride in her car.when i arrived in kansas city, i called my roommate to tell her i made it ok.she told me that 2 hours after i left, my truck caught on fire with flames roaring out 5 feet high.it was just sitting there parked in the driveway! the fire department had to come and put it out.my truck is completely destroyed except for the bed.four days after the incident, i was watching the news. They were doing a report on how 800,000 ford f-150's were being recalled due to a faulty cruise speed control.my insurance will not cover the damage.i live paycheck to paycheck and cannot get a loan because i filed bankruptcy a couple years ago.that truck was paid for.my job is on the other side of town.i really needed that truck.

Ford recently sent out 3.8 million notice that included 1994 through 2002 f type trucks. I file a claim with ford asking for replacement value ( $4000) with no luck. Ford sent be a letter that said the defect could not be verified due to the extensive damage to your vehicle.

I own a 1994 fordf-150supercab. Original purchase date was 6/25/94. I bought it used on 11/17/00. Vin # [xxx] on sunday july 31, 2005i had driven approximately 10 miles from my mother's house back home at about 5:00 pm . I parked the truck in the driveway andmade two trips from the truck to the house to unload various items. After about 60 - 75 minutes inside the house, i went to the garage and started to take the lawn mower outside.about five minutes passed when i started smelling an "electrical burn" odor. I work in construction and i know the smell. I immediately started checking all the electrical outlets for a fire. Everything checked out in the garage so i went upstairs and everything was ok . I went back down through the garage and out to the end of the driveway to see if i saw anything in the cul-de-sac. Everything was ok, so i went back to double check the garage. As i got to the open garage door the smell was worse. All of a sudden i saw smoke coming off the hood of my truck. As i got closer i saw flames coming out of the grill. I grabbed the water hose and put out the fire through the grill on the front of the truck. After it cooled down, i opened the hood and saw the burnt wires and brake fluid reservoir. I got my brother-in-law who is a semi-mechanic to look at it. He then informed me about the defective cruise control switches on various ford f-150 trucks. I've taken some digital pictures and as of today not repaired anything. Updated 07/19/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

After being parked for 18hours, my 1994 ford f-150 xlt pickup caught fire and was destroyed.the fire appears to have started on the drivers side of the engine compartment.i now know that ford has been aware of this problem in it's vehicles and done nothing to correct the problem.i am completely out of the investment of the truck as my insurance company will not pay for fires that are due to a manufacturing defect.it is shameful that you have not held them to account for the lives and property lost.why do you even bother with this.thousands of car fires have started due to the faulty cruise control cut-off and yet nothing has been done.

Complaint received via e-mail." truck caught fire 3-4 years ago and was still under warranty. The cause of the fire was the cruise control sensor on the brake master cylinder. I noticed the smoke coming from my truck which was sitting not running in my driveway. I was fortunate enough to put out the fire myself, but not before it did thousands of dollars worth of damage to my truck."
Throttle does not have toapply gas to accelerate. It will go on its own. Dealer replaced idle control valve. Still is experiencing the same defect.

Efod transmission - 3rd one currently installed, along with second control module. Radiator separated at tank side joints causing leaks. Idler and tension pulleys failed. Tires were originally firestones- two high speed blowouts before it became national news. Replaced a/c compressor in first year of ownership. Second clock mech. Installed in steeering wheel, caused loss of airbag, horn, cruise control when it went out both times. Replaced u-joints. Front brake rotors warp every 20,000 miles. Replaced failed mass air sensor and coolant temp. Sensor. Replaced cruise control module.
There was an electrical short in the cruise control switch caused the cables and hood to burn on the vehicle. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer.
The speed control sensor for the cruise control located on the master cylinder caught fire and melted a hole in the master cylinder resevoir. Put the fire out and replaced the complete mastercylinder. Old part was turned in as part of the core charge for replacement. Cost for replacement with master cylinder w/o speed control was $68. That was the only thing i could do because in order to get one with speed control it had to be ordered.

Sparks and smoke ignited from under the hood after the truck had been parked for several hours in the driveway. The failure was due to a defective cruise control part #9f924 which was replaced with the upgraded part by the dealership.
Air conditioner/heater register replaced.
Poor performance on the front brakes, brakes will lock up.ttthe vehicle had been to sevice numerous times for brake and transmission problems.the driver side window goes up and down sluggishly and makes rubbing noise.

Windshield wipers operate sporadically, causing visibility problems during inclement weather.
Vehicles windshield wipers will intermittently stop in any speed causing driver to pull off and physically adjusting wipers.tt
Windshield wipers only work occasionally, when the do work they cut off when the arrow blinker is selected.
When the wiper switch is turned onto intermittent , the time span between wipes is very irregular, sometimes up to 2 or 3 minutes between swipes of the wiper.also, the wipers do not function when put on the slow speed of the switch, and the switch must be turned up to full speed.
Windshield wipers don't work. When driving driver can't see in the rain, which could cause anaccident.
Intermittant windsheild wipers fail repeatedly when driving or do not work correctly.
