While driving at 60 mph consumer heard a loud noise, the passenger tire blew up.at the same time consumerlost the control and hit the guard rail. Upon impact, none of the air bags deployed. Consumer sustained arm injury andtwo fractures, had 100 stitches.

I don't know if this is the right place to file this complaint but its worth a shot. My mother owned a 2002 ford explorer sport. My brother was driving it home to kansas city from st. Louis missouri. The weather was perfect, the roadways were perfect, there was nothing wrong with the car, the air bags deployed, he wasn't speeding. However, he drove off the side of the highway, over corrected it to gain control and fish-tailed. Witnesses say that it looked like he had control again and then it rolled, killing him. Him and the passenger were both wearing seat belts; however, the top crushing him in is what killed him. These vehicles like other suv's have a high roll-over rate yet people keep buying them. Something needs to be done to prevent any other families from experiencing this tragedy. Now obviously whatever happens won't bring me back my brother but i'd hate to see this happen to someone else. Why can't the tops be made out of a different material? something that makes them not top heavy and something that won't buckle if it does roll? or why not take them off the market? i know that is a little drastic since we know the danger but we keep buying them, its kind of like smoking a cigarette. I just wanted to speak my voice in hopes we can prevent this from happening to someone else.*la

Consumer loss control of the vehicle and hit some trees, and none of the air bags deployed. One person was injured.

Ice on road, lost control of vehicle.crashed head on into ditch embankment and airbag did not deploy (failure 1) then vehicle rolled over onto the passenger side. Unstable vehicle model.

Leading up to the event of the fire, occasionally the "door ajar" button would flash during driving, the alarm would randomly go off, and the lights inside the vehicle would flash at random times. This was never a pattern, and the car went periods of time with nothing happening to it. One morning, i opened the car door and found the entire inside to be burned out. The first started in the middle console.

After adjusting steering wheal up and down the harness was broken due to short harness under dash i didn't notice it until the electrical sys failed

Brake lights and turn signals stopped working. Problem traced to tilt steering and multi-function switch wiring harness. Broken retainer clip allows wires to be pulled from connector breaking connection for brake light and turn signal. Once tilt steering is engaged connection is broken and wires do not stay connected and loss of brake lights and turn signal is the result. This could lead to accident, injury and or loss of life due to poor design.the brake light problem had eluded me until i did a google search on the internet which resulted in hundreds, if not thousands, of people all experiencing the same problem.calling the ford dealer and providing the part number (e6db14489da) on the connector proved futile in having them even identify the part yet i was able to find the part on the internet just be a google search. At this point, i am unable to locate a replacement part so i am forced to hot glue the wires into the broken connector in order to drive my vehicle.

Ford explorer 2002caught fire while parked.

Was using the 4 wheel drive in when the engine started smoking and the engine compartment caught on fire, then the cab started burning and then the whole car caught on fire and exploded.

The consumer's 2002 ford explorer was parked in a parking lot when it caught on fire.

I was driving when my car start smoking, when i stopped it caught on fire.the car is totaled.the fire originated at the engine compartment near the spark plugs.

Started my vehicle it made a clunking noise then died. The timing chain broke and broke all the valves off the motor.

A fire burning my entire 2002 ford explorer sport in the early mornings when the suv wasn't even started.

Check engine lightaccelerating when brakingrotating tire axleidle issues.

I have been smelling anti-freeze. I just noticed that my radiator hose has been rubbing on the oil fill and made a nice big hole on that side as well as on the other side from another mechanism under the hood.nice assembly.i owned my truck for 8 months now.

The engine stalled without warning.

Intermittently the vehicle misfired, idled rough and then vibrated.

My father-in-law has the same problem. He bought his 5 days after me, his stalled 5 times to this date. Remember the news, (fog and major pile up with numerous deaths) what was the reason ? i don't want this to be our accident waiting to happen. "intermittent" , couldn't "reproduce" the problem. Not good enough to keep my family safe. Please help.dt

Riding in a car in cold weather...all we can figure at this time is that there is some kind of exhaust leak..in the ford explorer....the passenger shared with the drive the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning...the driver larger in stature was getting drowsy and not thought much about since it was after midnight, but the other person ended up getting in another car traveling with them and ended up stopping three or more times due to the symptoms....

Air conditioning/fan controls knobs & face of cd player on dash gets increasingly hotter as the vehicle runs. The panel with the control knobs is very, very hot to the touch and begins to smell very hot when vehicle is running. I am concerned of a fire as my son is a paraplegic and i have read that the ford explorer has fires.i asked the dealer about this possible electrical problem and they don't seem concerned.

The lighting system on the ford explorer sport, is not good for night driving at long distances, i have a 98 ford f-150 and the lights are more proper for this kind of driving.the new system that is being used now, has poor visability on bright.this is a problem since i have had the sport. Also i have noticed several auto manufactors are using this system, which could pose a safety hazard.

Left turn signal inoperable at times. Bulb replaced but did not help. Dealership determined that connector @ multi-function switch did not keep good connection in steering column. Unit is 2002 model with less than 45,000 miles. Cost of repair excessive.

2002 ford explorebought new it has a shaking in park or in while you are at a traffic light or stuck in traffic now it cuts off when you are ready to go the whole car shakes the call it runs rough its been back to them 4 times they say its normal first time the said they put fords fix,to the problem but that did not fix ?!@#$% .i only get 156 miles to the tank full, they said when it gets 10,000 miles on it then il get better mileage like i believe this bs, it only had 503 miles on it when they said that seems the more miles i go things get worse. Now there's 5,345 miles on it.

Cannot put gas in vehicle.gas pours all over vehicle, ground, and person if standing close to gas inlet. Ph

When driving consumer noticed that the fuel gauge showed the wrong gas measurements.

The contact owns a 2002 ford explorer sport.the contact stated that both rear interior child locks failed in the locked position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated this was a normal occurrence. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000.

I have a ford explorer sport 2 dr. .. I have noticed that it likes to slide alot esp. Around corners. I actually went around a corner about not even 10 miles per hour and lost control luckily cars on other side stopped ahead when they saw this. I was not hurt but almost hit a tree and telephone pole.. Also my hinges broke on rear window left side and they said mine was not covered under recall!!! out of pocket expense around 140.00.

I own a 2002 ford explorer sport and rear glass hinge fractured/broke and caused glass to fall on one side and hurt daughters wrist.took to local ford dealership and they said no recalland it would cost $300-$400 to fix and then hydraulics probably would not work and glass could break increasing the cost to $700 - $800 or more.i searched and found numerous complaints on web.i contacted ford by phone and was told no recall so to have fixed and keep receipt in case there was a recall.they said nothing they could do because no recall.no concern for safety was shown.

I own a 2002 ford explorer sport. As i drove the vehicle into a parking lot i heard a clanking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. After i parked the vehicle, i looked at the lift gate and saw no damage. I opened the back deck of the vehicle. When i closed it, the rear window fell out. The hinges on the rear glass separated from the vehicle causing the rear gas to fall out. I had my vehicle towed to the nearest ford dealer, fearing that driving the vehicle would cause the rear glass to break. The dealer told me the cost of repair would be $407.00. Also informed me that an earlier recall had been done on the same year regular ford explorer (02-03) for exactly the same issue but they did not recall the explorer sport, even thought the same parts were used on both vehicles.

Rear door glass hatch hinges came off.this was my wifes vehicle driven very little until she passed away 2009.then it was driven even less. Back hatch glass was never used as far as i know. She always used the metal door. I drove it to grocery store, put groceries in back using large door. When i got home i just grabbed glass hatch handle by mistake,it came off in my hand.both hinges were broken. I don't know for how long, the latch was all that kept it in place.when the latch opened it exploded outward ,resulting in badly damaged paint and both rear defroster wires to be torn off glass.luckily it was me and not my wife, could have been a lot worse.lift cylinders were so strong i could not put it back in place, had to yell for neighbors for help!had it repaired local ford dealer.told me about recall for models except sport.no recall for it.$150.50(not including paint) for repairs & 10 days @ dealer.it now has 71,800 miles glass hatch never used,it has broken drivers side hinge again.07/28/2014.have not contacted dealer again as of this time. But i plan to express my concerns for such inadequate replacement parts. Any help would be appreciated.this vehicle was purchased new, never abused and well maintained.

The rear doors will not open from the inside.also, the rear windows will not go up or down. Dealer made repairs thattemporarily fixed the windows.the problem returned about two months after the repairs were done.

Intermittently hatch back lever when pulled up to open the hatch failed to release and went back down.when this occurred the hatch back would not close.

O/d light is blinking so transmission is going bad i figured it out or i can just jam my transmission in middle of high speed traffic and result in crash.....

When trying to shift car from drive into park, the gear shift lever broke off inside the steering column and fell of in my hand.the car was still in drive and i turned off the ignition.the key could not be removed and the car was towed to the dealership.to repair this linkage part, the entire steering column had to be replaced, at a cost ofover $1800.i called ford to report the incident and was told that they have no record of something like this ever happening before.they said they would add the incident to their database. I told them that i felt this was a serious safety issue and that this needs to be referred to engineering or quality assurance for investigation before someone gets injured or killed.i got the impression that ford was not going to do anything with this information.

I just purchased a used 2002 ford explorer sport on 08/06/2011 so that i had a vehicle that i could take the kids on camping trips. On 09/04/2011 on our way to daytona beach i noticed the car was pushing and swerving in both directions, i had just put brand new tires on it and replaced both the upper control arms and all 4 ball joints and had an alignment done, i thought that it's a bigger vehicle than what i'm used to and had been a slightly windy. On the way home on monday 09/05/2011 it was even worse, i could feel the body rolling the car pushing ect.. I pulled over and checked the front suspension. There appeared to be nothing wrong. I crawled home a nervous wreck. When we unload the car at homei noticed the car was sagging in the left rear.i crawled under the vehicle. I noticed 2 big issues, 1st the coil spring is broken were lucky it didn't pop out and shred a tire, and 2nd all of the body mount bushings are completely crumbling or just plain gone. Talk about dangerous. I went online and there seems to be thousands of complaints for the 2002 explorers on blogs and ford forums and tons of sites for complaints for automobiles for all models of this vehicle for the exact same things. I have also seen numerous other complaints on this vehicle for other equipment failures one of them being a whining noise coming from the rearend of the car which i thought was the tires, but apparently it is an improperly engineered differential that ford will not fix or admit that there is a problem with although there are a couple of technical bulletins out on it. They are just lucky that my children were not injured. How dare they not accept any responsibility to take care of these vehicles that they engineered and sold, used or not. If you manufacture an unsafe vehicle and a defective vehicle you should be responsible. Is it gonna take a father and his children being killed.

Started my vehicle it made a clunking noise then died. The timing chain broke and broke all the valves off the motor.

O/d off light started blinking.dealer stated that this is an indication of transmission problems. Checked on line for warranty information, and found out that this is a very common problemwith ford's 2002 transmissions.ford will not assist in the cost of repairs because the problem occurs after the 36,000miles or 3 year warranty period. Every thing points to a $ 2,000 / 3,000 repair job.i purchased this truck in 10/08 and now i have to look forward to a major repair before owning it for a year.i really think that ford should in some way compensate its vehicle owners for a defect that they are apparently well aware of.

The transmission of our 2002 explorer started slipping, jumping, jerking' surging, refusing to shift, shifting slowly and other associated things approximately 4 years ago.there is no consistency, it does it whenever it wants, regardless of the speed, outside temperature, driving distance.i feel ford owes me a new, redesigned transmission with installation.i would like to know what ford is doing about the problem with the transmission which was installed in this model and year explorers.

Consumer was unaware of how to check transmission fluid level or how to add transmissionfluid.

Overdrive light began to flicker on and off, and the transmission would not shift properly.would stay in a lower gear during acceleration as the rpm continued to climb. Had stored codes diagnosed with the following: p0732 (gear 2 incorrect ratio), p0733 (gear 3 incorrect ratio), p0734 (gear 4 incorrect ratio). Was advised not to continue to drive vehicle.required complete transmission rebuild (by an independent including upgrades) including the replacement of the torque converter due to excessive metal filings throughout. Total cost $2581.60. The vehicle has never been used for towing (no hitch) and is not abused. . investigation on the web reveals this transmission failure to be quite common, citing weaknesses in the original design.creates a potentially hazardous driving condition because the failure can occur at any time at which point the erratic behavior could lead to an accident.

At 55,350 miles my 2002 ford explorer sport's transmission would flare when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear.when i took it to the dealership, i was told that i had a solenoid malfunction in my transmission; therefore, affecting other components of the transmission.i was told by the dealership that my transmission would need to be rebuilt.miles wise, i still had a little under 5,000 miles until the warranty expired, years wise, i was at 5 years 74 days.needless to say, this problem cost me $2168.38.i don't think vehicle at 55k miles should need a rebuilding of a transmission.i think i should be reimbursed in some way for the cost.....even though i went over the warranty by 74 days.

2002 ford explorer. O/d light blinking. Slow gear shifting. Random jerking of car.have read this on many websites and even people that have had a rebuild or solenoid replaced, just happens again. Is also dangerous, because once changes gears, mph jumps very high, very quickly with no control over it.

I have a 2002 ford explorer bought used march 2008 82,xxx miles now at 95,xxx the overdrive light flashes after being driven about 3 miles and irregular hard passing gear shifts occur.. I have found on the internet several others with this same problem with ford....

Driving my 2002 ford explorer with my daughter in the back seat, when the o/d light starts to flash and the car becomes jerky, then locks into gear so i brake put it in park and turn the car off for a bit , turn it back on and the o/d flashes and i managed to make it home but only going slow as concerned for the safety of myself and my child.i let the car sit for a few days and had my husband drive it around the neighborhood and it got stuck in gear on him twice.we've contacted a transmission shop and they said in this year and model it has been very common for the transmission to be rebuilt or replaced.they recommended to have it repaired and either put the car up for sale or repair it as in their experience they transmission will probably go again in a year or 2..ford need to accept that there is an issue and own up to their mistakes, they can't expect people to just sit back and accept it.something needs to be done about the issue, if i was traveling at a higher speed when it first started who knows what could of happened, i may not of been able to keep control and something serious may of been but luckily it wasn't, but we don't want to read about the person who couldn't keep control.

O/d light comes on and care will not go into gear (transmission).pulling off from a stop light is a major problem and on the highway the car does not seem to want to go.cars are flying by and all i can do to keep from causing an incident was to let up off the gas and press down on the gas hoping it will change the gear.i almost caused and accident on the first experience with the transmission.

The gear shift (prndl) fell off the steering column for no apparent reason.the metal that hold the shift gear failed.this is happening to many people!very dangerous!luckily it happened in the driveway or it may have lead to injury/death.it is a catastrophic failure in the gear shifter that leads to the entire steering column needing to be replaced.please investigate!http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/explorer/2002/transmission/gear_shift_prndl_fell_off.shtml.

I have a 2002 ford explorer in which it only has 70,000 miles on it an the transmission has failed. There are many complains on this and something needs to be done.

My 2002 ford explorer will not accelerate and the o/d light blinks. My car slams into gear and stalls sometimes.

We have a 2002 ford explorer sport, within past few days my transmission started slipping when going into 2nd gear occasionally, now it is doing it much more and the od off light is blinking. I am seeing online that this a very common occurrence with this vehicle and ford should be required to do something. We pay alot of money to have dependable vehicles and to have the transmissions failing so often in these vehicles is ridiculous. Ford should be help accountable for faulty transmissions!!!

Auto transmission slipping between 3rd and 4th gear.engine rev high to 4k and above with hard bang into next gear.intermittent problem.

The contact owns a 2002 ford explorer sport.the contact stated that the transmission slipped when placed into second, third gear and reverse.the vehicle is currently at the dealer and they have not provided the contact with the status on his vehicle.the current and failure mileages were 57,360. *updated 12/12/2007there was a noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle and the axle seal was leaking. Updated

My 2002 ford explorer sport is having transmission problems. It slips all of the time, makes grinding noises and at times does not let me drive (goes no where while stepping on the gas pedal.similar to what is happening to a lot of people out there with this same make and model of car.it happens on and off, it started a couple of months back.

My 2002 explorer sport o/d light began blinking when i bought it in feb 09. The car has about 104,000 miles on it. Soon after i bought the car, the transmission slipped. I took it to the mechanic and they could not reproduce the problem. About a year later, 4/29/10, the o/d light began blinking again. I had the transmission serviced and a diagnostic test ran on the transmission. This cost about $300. On 5/3/10 i took my explorer in again because the light came back on. They ran another test and told me i would have to get the transmission replaced or rebuilt but it should last me a little while longer. That same evening my car would not shift into gear. I had to turn the car off and turn it back on to get it into gear. I could not go over 5mph and my rpm's were unnaturally high for the speed i was traveling. By the time i got up the hill i was on i could go no further. My car would not go into any gear. I finally had to park on the side of the road in the middle of the night and walk home. I have read numerous complaints (over 300) on the 2002 ford explorer transmission and their poor performance or lack thereof. A recall would be much appreciated, as this defect in the transmission is due to poor vehicle construction, not typical wear and tear. All my family drives is ford, however after this incident i do not have much faith in ford. Given the opportunity, i would rather go with a foreign car next time.

1. I have had my vehicle for almost two years and i have never abused it because it would come out of my pocket. I get it serviced regularly.2.the failure is a transmission slip from 2nd to 3rd gear where is seems to slip into neutral and cause my rpms to shoot way up. Happens everytime i drive my vehicle, and just recently my o/d off light started flashing everytime the vehicle is turned on.3.old part is still available, as i have yet to correct the failure because of the price to do so.

The not in overdrive light started blinking. After shutting off the engine i restarted and the light went off. Shortly the transmission started slipping. And now theengine races and the car wont move there is only 33000 miles on the car i am the original owner.

The transmission on my 2002 ford explorer is defective. When i slow down for a red light or to make a turn the vehicle stalls out and i loose all power. I have to keep one foot on the gas to keep it idling and one foot on the brake.

Transmission o/d light started coming on and blinking periodically with hard shifting or slipping and car lurching forward before shifting. O/d stops working after o/d light starts blinking. Had transmission solenoids adjusted last year but only helped slightly then back to slipping again. Only have 88,000 miles on vehicle with good care and no towing ever.

My 2002 ford explorers transmission just completely stopped working at 94,000 miles. Reading forums online led me to this site, after reading many, many others' exact same experiences with this car. Ford will do nothing about it and my family does not have the money to replace a transmission! ford needs a recall on transmissions for this make and model!

Nhtsa recall 04v442000 on the rear liftgate glass.no parts available since november of 2004.while shifting gears the shifter broke without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that theshifter needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.

Right rear axle and bearing

2002 ford explorer sport, not yet 3 years old but 6000 miles out of warrenty.rear end needed to be replaced said it look like water got into it.i've never own a car yet that needed a rear end repair.is this problem a recall item?i would think ford motor co. Would take care of this but no way. I have only been buying fords for the last 40 years.

In august 2003, reported to dealer that the truck was groaning when turning.service advised that i was turning the wheel too far and rubbing the tires on the wheel wells.this was not possible since the tires were the original factory installs.by november, the truck would hardly turn without dragging the back tires and the dealer found there was no fluid in the rear differential requiring a complete overhaul.then, in june 2004, the "new" seals failed allowing the fluid to, again, drain out.dealer is currently repairing.

Got stuck in seat belt & had to be cut out.on passenger side, fell asleep with seat belt around me and when woke couldnt get out.tried unbuckling but the seat belt wouldnt give & kept getting tighter and tighter and had to be cut out.seatbelt in back behind passengerside also broke, wont pull-down anymore either.

2002 ford explorer sport, the front passenger side seatbelt has a defect. The belt itself becomes locked and cannot be adjusted and even becomes tighter on the passenger when pulled.i had to have the person slide out from under the belt to be released.this has happened approximately 10 times but this last time was the worse as to the "tightening" on the passenger. It is only the front passenger seatbelt.

Rear seat beltsfailed without warning. Both rear seat belts were replaced.the consumer was unable to buckle the seat belts.

Took vehicle in to have nhtsa action number pe03020 - bolt replace due to back of seat falling backwards during driving.bolt broke allowing the seat back to fall backwards.was informed by airport ford (dealership) that due to the broken bolt that the seat frame was damaged and i would have to pay $350 to get the frame fixed.ford dealer indicated that they could not replace bolt due to damage to seat frame - which was caused by the bolt breaking.called ford motor co and they said that as far as they knew the damaged seat frame caused the bolt (which was on the recall) to break.so the dealer returned the vehicle without replacing the bolt with the seat is still broken.wording from dealership "inspect- found unable to replace bolt-sheered off inspec condition of mounting area into seat bottom frame seat back are both damaged. - ford decline replaced both frame sections due to time length of open recall open since 2003. Cust decline repairs - no action taken - return veh to customer in condition vehicle came here with.ford is wanting me to pay $350.00 to fix something that their $2.00.defective bolt damaged.

The contact owns a 2002 ford explorer sport.while driving at an unknown speed, the left side of the driver's seat detached from the base, causing the contact to fall back against the rear seats.prior to the failure, he noticed that the seat would only recline in one vertical position.there was no crash involved and the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 85,000.

The contact owns a 2002 ford explorer sport.the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 03v281000 (seats:front assembly:recliner) and had the bolts replaced.a few weeks ago, the seat reclined all the way back and not forward.the contact removed the seat cushion and noticed that the bolt in the mechanism was in place; however, the frame failed.the dealer confirmed the frame failure and stated that they would repair it at the contact's expense.the contact believes that when the dealer repaired the bolt, they may have weakened the frame, which means the repair should be performed for free.the contact was advised to purchase a new seat.the vin and failure mileage were unknown.the current mileage was 65,000.

Consumer receivedrecall# 03v281000noticeconcerning high back seats.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who kept the vehicle all day.upon returningto dealer to pick upvehicleconsumer realized that dealer did no repairs because the parts were not available.

Front driver side seat has been broke with recliner problem since the recall on it in 2003, they never corrected the problem and tried to charge me when the mailed me the recall.additionally, there was a new recall as of april 2006 on the same exact thing that they will not honor.

The contact owns a 2002 ford explorer sport.when the contact entered the vehicle, the back of the seat reclined and would not remain upright.the dealer stated that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v281000 (seats: front assembly: recliner).the current mileage was 67,477 and failure mileage was 55,000.updated 10/31/07.

While driving20 mph and coming into a turn consumer started to brake.the brakes grabbed severely, andconsumer lost control of the vehicle which collided with a guard rail on the right side, and bounced to the left, colliding with an embankment.consumer struck her head on the left window, andthen driver's side air bag deployed. Consumer sustained head injuries from the glass, and burns from the air bags.the police did arrived, and consumer was cited.

While braking at 35 mph the front/rear wheels locked up temporally. This caused extended stopping distance. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.the consumer stated that he has had 5 instances of the vehicle sliding on pavement.the consumer stated that abs works occasionally.*tc

While driving at 60-65 miles hour,i saw the brake lights of the vehicle in front of me when i applied the brakes on my car ( explorer sport 2002 )for the first 15 feet my car partially slowed down then it felt like it lost traction and the back swung to the right,i got it going straight again and kept the pressure on the brake pedal but the car kept going at the same speed crashing on the other vehicle. Latter i saw streaks marks of fluid coming out of the right front wheel. Ts

When attempting to stop from any speed brakes malfunctioned. As a result, consumer has to stand on them in order to stop the vehicle dealer stated the rotors had been cut and hot spotsdeveloped.

The ford dealer has replaced the rotors and brake pads twice in 4 years due to rusting rotors. According to the dealer, the rust was too deep for the rotors to be turned and had to be replaced. The first replacement was at 15,857 miles and the second replacement of the rotors and brake pads at 29701 miles. I drive this vehicle under normal conditions, it is not used off-road or any other way to cause the rust. The first time, ford paid for the replacement of rotors but not the brake pads. The second time, i had to pay $401.00 for the entire rotor and brake replacement.furthermore, at times, there is a metal grinding sensation when apply the brakes. It creates the sound of metal grinding on metal. I have to pump the brakes to stop the grinding sensation.thank you

Sliding problem exists in the 2002 ford explorer sport, 2 door, even though i drove 30-35 miles sometimes. When sliding the steering wasout of control. Fortunately, no car followed me closely when sliding happened.

Steering wheel locked while driving on 495 capitol beltway, causing vehicle to loose control and collide into guardrail and utility pole. Collision causing substantial damage to vehicle and injury to driver.*la

I was opening the rear glass on my 2002 ford explorer sport when the hinge broke and the glass fell on my arm. I was lucky to catch it before it hit the ground. I now have a huge bruise on my arm. I contacted ford the said my truck was not included in the recall because of where it was built.

When i open the back glass window, one hinge broke off. I try to set the window, the other hinge broke. I have to tie a rope to keep the glass from falling off.i find on line there is a recall for 2002 - 2003 ford explorer liftgate glass hinge and strut brackets, nhtsa campaign id number: 04v442000. When i contacted ford dealer and ford company, they say my vehicle vin is not covered by the recall. If other ford expolorers are covered, why my vin is not covered? is it because there are fewer ford explorer sport built, and less people complain about the problem? i think the recall should expand to cover all explorer build in 2002 - 2003.

While opening my rear hatch window to load groceries i noticed the top right hinge had detached from the car, leaving the glass hatch hanging by a single hinge. When i got home i googled the problem and discovered recall #04s20 and mentioned it to my dealer when i took my car in for servicing. They said my car was not included, so i called ford and they agreed. Even though the recall specifies "all ford explorer models" they say mine is the 2-door "sport" edition and so isn't included even though the hatch is identical (i've owned both).this is an expensive repair and this is the 2nd time i've had this problem (the other hinge broke 2 years ago). I'd appreciate it if you could determine if the 2-door models are sufficiently different that they can be exempted from this recall, and if they should be included tell me how to proceed.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Body mounts have deteriorated , mechanics i have had look at this said , should never happen , is unsafe and they see it all the time on this year and model also have learned that this problem cause windshield to crack when i applied hard breaking.

Rear window exploded overnight while parked in driveway.we live in southern ca and it was a rare cold night with lows in the 30's. Security camera's verified no one or no object damaged the window.it just exploded while parked the glass was strewn across a 3 car driveway.

This is the second time this has happened. My rear tailgate window exploded. The car had been on for about ten minutes, warming up. I loaded my items into the car through the tailgate window. When i was done, i closed the window. Before it was even closed, the window exploded into thousands of pieces. There was glass all over.the window was recently replaced at the ford dealership.

Body mount bushings complete failure. All mounts fail. Mounts fall completely apart and nothing left except for washers and bolts.this can causes body to move on frame..have made ford motor aware but no action taken.

Ford explorer cracked read panel

Part# 2l2z-98420a68-aa hinge and attachments for liftgate broke 08/04-2008. Recall campaign#pe04045-purchased another hinge from ford parts dept. Invoice# 216039 on 08/04/2008-they did not tell me there was a recall on this part item- bought part and replaced it myself. 08/26-2012 the other hinge broke and called 1-888-327-4226 and was told recall was over- the ford store never told me this part was recalled and charged me $43.95. Now the other side of the hatchback hinge has broken and have been told i have to pay to get it repaired myself again. Never received any postcard for recall notice. This part is defective-both hinges have broken- i have paid for one hinge and replaced it myself and do not think i should have to replace the other one also and should be paid the $43.95 i paid not even counting my time and labor and ford should pay for the other side since this hinge is clearly defective.

The ford explorer sport has a rear hatch that includes a glass section that has the ability to be opened to load items into the trunk area of the vehicle. Three separate times the rear windshield has blown out as it has been opened / closed. The rear windshield is made of tempered glass and when it breaks it explodes into the person operating the window. There has not been any injuries besides a few small cuts, but having glass explode into a person is dangerous. After the first failure the glass was simply replaced. The first failure occurred as the rear glass was opened. After the second failure, the car was brought to a ford dealership to fix the issue. The second failure occurred as the glass was closed. The third failure occurred 12/1/2013, it has yet to be fixed. This most recent failure occurred as the glass was closed.

I noticed the rear window lift gate was slightly ajar, so i closed it, and suddenly the hinge bracket on the right side, connecting the window at the roof, popped loose, extending the window lift support, making it now impossible to close the back lift gate glass. I checked into the issue, and found a recall, campaign # 04v442000. This hinge has never been replaced. I want to have this fixed under recall.

I was stopped at a red light in my 2002 ford explorer sport in 43 degree weather with no temperature controls being used when my rear windshield shattered into the vehicle. I then pulled over to a safe location and inspected the broken glass. There were no foreign objects in the back of my vehicle indicating malice. After doing some research it seems this is not the first time that a 2000-2004 ford vehicle has had this kind of an issue. Again, the temperature was only 43 degrees, my vehicle was at a complete stop, and no temperature controls were being used.

Ford explorer 2002back window popped out of vehicle--breaking brackets that secure it( class) to lift gate--looked to see if this vehicle had a recall---there is for vehicles manufactured until march of 2002--mine was april--even though its a problem--dealer says ford not responsible.

My husband and i own a 2002 ford explorer sport.friday, oct. 24th, 2008 we had traveled out of town about 2 hours away from our home.we were on our way home and we were completely stopped at a red light.all of a sudden we heard a huge boom and the rear liftgate glass shattered.we did have the police come out and inspect the vehicle for any indications as to what may have caused the glass to shatter.they did not find anything that would have caused the problem.when my husband and i got home we did some research online to find out if there was a recall on this type of problem.we did find that in 2001 ford recalled thousands of ford explorers for a similar issue.we contacted ford and were told that our vehicle was not part of that recall.they directed us to nhtsa to file a complaint due to our issue being almost identical to this recall.we feel that this is a manufacturer defect and that our vehicle should have been included in this recall.we have the vehicle in the shop right now and at this time we believe that the glass, hinges, rear windshield wiper mechanism, struts and any other parts affected are being replaced.we have a $500 deductible and our insurance is covering the balance of the cost at this time, which is over $1000.we would like to file a complaint at this time because we do feel that our vehicle exhibited the same malfunctions as the 2001 recall.

I purchased a new 2002 explorer sport 4x4, and drove it conservatively under normal conditions; no off-road, never towed, garaged, etc. With the original tires and suspension system, at 27,000 miles, the left front wheel bearing (referred to as a joint in the ford shop manual) and hub assembly (a single, sealed unit) failed so badly the vehicle could not be driven. This was replaced at a ford dealership, but as i was over three years since purchase, the repair was not covered by the warranty, and cost $500.00. After the repair, at 65 mph, a fairly bad vibration was present in the front-end. At 36,000 miles, the right front wheel bearing and hub assembly also completely failed, and required a tow to the ford dealership for replacement. The vibration is gone, so was caused by the right bearing, but not caught by the technician when the left side was replaced.as ford will admit, their parts are now manufactured in china and mexico. Premature part failure is rampant, so obviously there is little quality control. Additionally, china has a huge counterfeit auto parts problem, and it seems reasonable these parts are being used in new american vehicles.i do have the left front hub assembly, which failed at 27,000 miles. This part failure has the potential to cause serious injury or death.
