The contact owns a 2000 ford explorer sport.she stated that she heard a constant beeping noise.the dealer stated that the control panel caused the failure and this could result in the airbags deploying without warning.as a result, the dealer disconnected the airbags.the beeping noise continued to occur.as of may 19, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.

Nar 1/29/2003. The air bag light constantly stayed on. There has been four attempted repairs on the vehicle.

I was recently involved in an automobile accident in which i was thedriver.it happened last friday evening, january 21st at approximately 6:24 pm.just outside of carroll, iowa.i hit a patch of black ice and my vehicle rolledinto a ditch. I was driving a 2000 ford explorer with both driver and passenger front airbags and neither one deployed.we rolled at least once and landed with enough force to shatter the front windshield, and i believe that the equipment was faulty.

Have had numerous problems with my explorer.have had 2 transmission valve body replaced, air intake control valve replaced, faulty witing for the laft tail light replace, ignition switch replaced, air bag contacts replaced, turn signal arm and cotrols replaced.

Air bag light stays on. Dealer states a "short" in wiring loom, needs to replace with a better connector for $1100. Dealer warns me that while light is "on" airbag system will not operate in a crash.

Electrical system at steering column: smell of wires getting hot and smoke.

The battery gauge occasionally drops to the low end when the vehicle is stopped, idling with the headlights on, with the heater on and radio on causing the dash lights to dim but once the gas pedal is depressed the vehicle would return to normal operation, the dealer has replaced the air compressor, alternator and battery but there has been no change, the headlights stayed on although the switch was off, the light on the stereo is inoperative, at time the vehicle will crank but not start the dealer replaced by pass valve, pcm and da pump but there was no change.nlm

I started my ford explorer sport on january 30 for a few minutes to warm it up, before i drove to work. I ran back into the house for aprox 4 minutes, when i came back out the front of the explorer was in flames, it totally burned before the fire dept could get there taking our barn with it.

Windshield wipers stop working, power windows not working, dome light not working, fog lights not working and 4 wheel drive and auto not working.

When using the turn signal, smoke comes from the steering column

I will never purchase a ford again.terrible customer service.i contacted the national customer service hotline many times attempting to resolve these matters, never got a call back as promised.dealership never followed up on my complaints and concerns.

Smoke coming out of steering column when turn signal engaged.took to dealer and told ignition switch had signs of a hot point and was melting.had ignition switch replaced at a service station, however, they said they saw no visible signs of damage.

Vehicle fire.about 3 years ago my garage burned down.it was determined that the hot spot ,the point where the fire started was where my 2000 explorer was sitting.it has the same switch that the vehicles that have been recalled have!

The evp sensor melted and damaged the ignition switch, other sensors and components. *nlm

Faulty regulator/alternator.*mjs

Have had numerous problems with my explorer.have had 2 transmission valve body replaced, air intake control valve replaced, faulty witing for the laft tail light replace, ignition switch replaced, air bag contacts replaced, turn signal arm and cotrols replaced.

The engine has been replaced twice, the steering wheel started to smoke.the dealer stated that there was a mechanical defect in the steering column.the knocking would only occur in the fall and winter month's.on one occasion the while sitting at a red light, smoke started coming from the steering wheel. *sc

The upper and lower intake gaskets were leaking and were replaced.*mjs

Dealer had to replace engine after oil pressure dropped out without warning. Engine locked up before i could travel 1/4 mile to get off road.ford motor company offered no help since engine had 39000 miles, 3000 miles over warranty.

No events led up to the crankshaft failure. Our 2000 ford explorer was being driven as a daily routine trip in town. The car died at a stop light.i was able to restart the car . The car made a loud clunk. I drove the vehicle into a parking lot and shut it off.we had a certified ford mechanic come out to look at the car. He was very familiar with this v6 engine. He stated to us that the crankshaft ford used was a cast iron crank and not a forged steel crank. What happens is the crankshaft will develop cracks in it and eventually break apart. His comment was it was a bad idea and bad design by ford.this mechanic worked for ford for 18 years and stated that this particular engine was used from 1995-2001 and i believe he said it was a cologne v6 .our 2 options at this point is to put in a new motor or junk the car. This vehicle is a 2000 ford explorer sport 2 door. Two wheel drive. Dealer maintained at 30000,60000,and recently at 90000 miles .current mileage is 91000. Oil changed every 2 months regardless. Maintenance records are all available. No reason for an important component like a crankshaft to crack and ruin the car.

Oil pressure switch replaced, causing the oil pressure gauge to fail.*mjs

My ford year 2000 idles rough and stalls in cold weather. I thought the problem was dirty injectors and kept having them flushed which temp. Fixed prob. A mechanic stated that it was the timing chain and that ford would fix it for free, for they did on his explorer. I contacted ford and they said that i was over the miles and that it was a customer satisfaction recall. Well not only am i not satisfied, but it seems to be a safety factor as well. What if a pull out into an intersection and my car stalls. Crossing a highway and my car stalls. I would have thought that ford would have cared more about their customers especially given that this is my 3rd ford and i am only 30 yrs old. Regardless, of that fact, thaey should be required to fix the problem in order to keep their drivers safe on the road.*la

Dealership replaced engine, engine came from factory leaking oil from the oil pan area, oil pressure switch.*mjs

There seems to be a rod knocking in the vehicle. Buerge ford has serviced it for the noise but it still knocks. Consumer believes they were sold a faulty vehicle and would like to know if there is anything nhtsa can do.

The exhaust system sounds lounder than normal.nlm

Have had numerous problems with my explorer.have had 2 transmission valve body replaced, air intake control valve replaced, faulty witing for the laft tail light replace, ignition switch replaced, air bag contacts replaced, turn signal arm and cotrols replaced.

The multi-function switch failed.*mjs

The guel gauge and anti slosh module were replaced.*mjs

While driving 30 mphvehicle was involved in a head on collision. The fuel pump shutoff switchmalfunctioned, causingvehicle to burn to the ground.

Door latch/locking assembly stopped functioning. Consumer was unable to open the door from the outside or inside. Dealership replaced the entire locking assembly, and indicated that this was a common problem with these trucks.

This was a terrible event... My car was aimed down my 300 ft driveway. I don't believe at that point or if it was stuck i didn't know the accelerator was stuck but i soon realized something was wrong. As i headed to new albany high school for water class the explorer went faster and faster on rt 161... The clutch would not allow a down shift at all after the first time or two... I may have blown it out... The suv went faster and faster and in 3rd gear it was revving so hard... When i could i pulled into a parking lot and turned the engine off... I let it cool and attempted to start the explorer but it would have red warning lights when i started it in neutral as it revved so high... I pushed it into gear and when i got to the two red lights i turned the key off... Once i stopped in the intersection and about 8 cars were honking at me. I had to deal with five traffic intersections. When i got home i turned the key off and fought the wheel to get turned into the downswing of my driveway... I raced around my house to face out and turned off the key... The explorer was smoking and "laid rubber" and tore out grass in my house... It almost skidded into my pond. I think the clutch is burned out and the brake abs light was on as i had to brake all the way home... I tried to disengage the cruise control if that was it during my terror ride but it had no effect... The brakes could not stop the speeding vehicle, the gears were locked while the speed accelerated so there was no downshifting, the pedal was pushed to the floor and would not change speed when i pulled it up with my hand or toe of my shoe...

While stopping the speedometer read 40 mph when the vehicle is only going 10-15 mph.nlm

Transmission valve body failure.informed by dealer that ford redesigned it and am getting the redesigned unit.required me to pay for half of repair ($400) even though it is their design flaw.not to mention that it was just past the 36,000 mile warranty.there were no injuries, fatalities or air bag deployment. Mr

Overdrive light flashing on and off.the car slips when shifting into 2nd and 3rd gear and then is fine after that.i have seen hundreds of posts from online forums with exploreres having the same problems.

Have had numerous problems with my explorer.have had 2 transmission valve body replaced, air intake control valve replaced, faulty witing for the laft tail light replace, ignition switch replaced, air bag contacts replaced, turn signal arm and cotrols replaced.

When i bought the car three years ago it had just a rebuilt transmission in it. Less than a month after i purchased it i had to have a 2nd rebuilt transmission put in it when my o/d light began flashing. Just yesterday i was driving down the freeway(i-5 in seattle, wa) when my transmission failed and i had to coast across 3 lanes of freeway traffic to come to a stop on the shoulder. Thankfully i was able to make it safely to the shoulder but the situation could have ended very differently. I could have very easily gotten into an accident. I have been looking online and am finding that hundreds if not thousands of explorer owners have had the exact same issues that i have experience! it makes me sick that ford had yet to do anything about the problem.

Transmission in my 2000, ford explorer sport has failed.upon taking it to transmission shop i wasinformed that ford motor redesigned the trans, in this model year, and they are trash...., upon replacing two valve bodies the trans is being rebuilt again.

- the contact owns a 2000 ford explorer sport.the odi warning light continuously flashed.alocal mechanic diagnosed the failure as having to do with the transmission.the current mileage is 79,108.

The truck's valve body malfunctioned . When this occurred the automatic transmission failed to shift correctly.although this is a common problem and the dealership is aware of it the cause is still unknown and there's isn't a remedy.please provide any additional information.

At 53,000 miles, the truck's transmission began slipping and missing shifts between gears 2-3 and 3-4.we took it to ford for warranty work, and they replaced the valve body.now at 76,000 miles, and 15 months later, it's exhibiting the same symptoms, only worse.ford refuses to fix it because it's out of warranty, and they refuse to recognize that it's a common problem in ford trucks with the 5r55e transmission.

Transmission in this explorer (vin 'x') started slipping at 55k miles between 2-3 shift.i had the transmission rebuilt by fellow mechanics for $1200 total before total failure.

Multiple failures report from the vehicle computer system for failing transmission.this car is barely three yrs old with low mileage and the transmission is already failing.fords service explanation is that the vehicle requires regular transmission coddling (service) to maintain the overall life of the transmission.and of course i'm just over the mileage for powertrain warranty converage.i understand from more than one reputable car service dealers that the explorer is notorious for transmission failures.

2000 ford explorer, o/d light began flashing, car sputtered, driving down the road, car would not go at all as though it was stuck in neutral. Will not go in gear. No drive, no reverse, nothing. Towed to transmission repair shop, $1800. To replace transmission.

Intermittently while driving in normal driving conditionor without inadvertent movement, with seatsoccupied, all 4seat beltswould tighten.consumer has to unfasten beltbuckle to release hold. The dealershipcannot fix problem, cause theycannot duplicate it. Ts

Driver's seat belt assembly replaced, noisy.*mjs

The driver's side front seat, without warning, reclined completely. Mechanic believes that the bolt holding the recliner mechanism to the seat frame is broken. Currently using the rear seat to prop up the driver's seat until a replacement seat can be found.

The front drivers' seat frame near the seat-back adjustment lever broke while driving, forcing the drivers seat-back to plummet backwards alarming the driver and all passengers. Fortunately no one was sitting on the drivers seat in the rear. They could've been crushed.the only event leading up to the seat frame breaking was putting all my weight into the seat, as it is designed to support.

Upon entering my vehicle, sitting in the driver's seat, and restinng my back against the seat while in an upright position, the back of the seat collapsed.this all occurred prior to the vehicle being started and engaged in any gear, which is probably the only reason the incident did not result in a serious or fatal accident. Due to the collapse of the seat, i did sustain a back injury/strain.

The driver side rear bottom frame failed in a non moving area.this cause the back of the seat to fall back as the hinge for seat tilt came out of the top due to this failure.thank god i was in my driveway or we would have had a wreck.structural steel in a seat frame should not fail in an 8 year old car.the car has not been in a wreck on the seat abused.the driver weigh 200 lbs or less.

I got into my car to go to lunch from my place of employment with my ceo. When i sat down the seat fell back and the seat back would not catch again. I took my life into my hands driving home that evening. Contacted our local ford dealer where we purchased the car, they said the part was no longer available and they could not fix it. They never informed us of a recall. Until exploring the internet today 10-25-2013 we did not realize there was a recall at all. Nhtsa campaign id # 03v281000/nhtsa action #pe03020 of august 5-2013. Auto accident, rear ended at a red light, substained surious injuries, my car000 ford explore driver seat broke after the inpact the driver seat. Recliner bolt broke.

1) drivers seat collapse.2) ford issued a recall claiming a defective driver seat bolt3) took vehicle to ford dealership for repair, dealership confirms the recalled bolt is broken and the cause of the seat failure. Ford wants $460.00 to replace the recalled bolt. Why does ford expect me to pay for a recall.4) seat will not stay upright at all since the dealership performed the inspection.

Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer to have the bolt on the passengerhigh back seat repaired.the seat was still broke, and the manufactured has been contacted. Manufactureradvised consumer to take it back to the dealer for resurfacing.dealer stated the bolt was replaced.however, the seat was still broke, and leaned against the back seat.

The driver's side seat on my 2000 ford explorer broke and would not stay in the upright position, making the vehicle very uncomfortable and unsafe to drive. *nlm

The contact owns a 2000 ford explorer sport.the contact stated that the parking brake would not support the vehicle when engaged.as october 23, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the failure mileage was 136,000 and current mileage was 140,000.

I have a 2000 ford explorer sport with 24,040 miles on it.i am scheduled for a third break job on this suv.i personally think it is crazy that a vehicle with that low of mileage has this many problems.i am taking the car to a private mechanic to hopefully remedy the problem.the other two services were performed by ford dealerships.*nlm

The alarm module required reinitializing, the alarm was not going off when unlocking or locking the vehicle.*mjs

Gear shift fell off when trying to back out of driveway.the entire steering wheel shaft needed to be replaced.thank heavens we were in the driveway and not on the road.

Vibration from center of the of the explorer, the problem gets worse every day . My consern is that i drive a lot and night vision after watching the rear view, side view mirrors after a while creates a visual adjustment period when looking back at the road at night it is a very big problem, the dealer to date has not taken it out at night and at this point the factory rep said it was normal. I have driven three other explrers and one of them are having the same problem, but they do no drive highway , so they are just living with it. The dealer said that the short fram vehicles arfe noted for this problem. The factory rep said it it just the way it is.

2000 ford explorer sport rollover accident.both my son and witnesses state that my son was driving the speed limit (55 on a rural 2 lane road) when a small dip in the road caused him to fishtail and flip onto his roof.thank god him and his friend had on the seat belts and were able to crawl out of the car unharmed.i did not know this problem existed with the ford explorer.more should be done to warn people about this defect!this vehicle should be recalled!the vehicle was totaled.

Vehicle accelerates on its own, this has happened 3 times, twice with cruise control activated. Consumer thinks it may have to do with the recall on powertrain calibration that was done in april. Prior to recall repairs vehicle did not have this problem.vehicle taken to dealer 3 times, could not find a problem.customer states that there was a squeaking noise in the right front wheel intermittently at low speeds. The vehicle had an accident due to the surging, there were no injuries.

Lowerand upper ball joint making terrible noise, i did grease but still have noise.

Dt*:the contact stated while taking the vehicle in for inspection the dealer determined all four ball joints needed to be replaced.the contact was unaware of any problems with the ball joints.since the replacement no failures have occurred.

The upper and lower ball joints only on the driver's side have prematurely worn out.the upper ball joint moves freely with the car's vertical motion rather than being restricted to side-to-side motion. The lower ball joint has also failed.the passenger side shows no such wear.there has been no accident to cause this problem and no accident caused from it-- yet.

2000 ford explorer turned over four times. Consumer would like some help in this matter. He stated that no one has helped him with trying to have action taken against ford.information taken from previous complaint. The tire detached from the vehicle.

While driving on the freeway, consumer experienced a horrendous blowout, right rear (firestone wilderness at p255/70r16) tire exploded, forcing vehicle out of control and almost causing a major collision.

Prior to recall notification 00t005, consumer experienced a tire blow out, the tires exploded when consumer exited the pavement and returned to level pavement, the force of the tires exploding caused vehicle to rollover, nose over first.

The ball joints on my vehicle needed to be replaced, but i think other owners should be aware of this issue due to safety concerns.friends and family members of similar ford vehicle also needed to replace their ball joints, some as early as 40,000 miles.some mechanics in the area say this is a common issue in ford trucks and suvs, but that many people don't know to have them checked.

Called local dealer oct.07, no part avail was told avail in dec.'07 when to dealer in dec.'07 in person was now told part not avail. Until "maybe" march 2008. This is unacceptable!

My 2000 ford explorer completely burnt , entirely gutted.i have pictures.

My car break lights were not working.i just so happenned to tell my uncle and he got worried since i have a 1 year old.we went to a car shop to go fix it.they told me it was simply the break fuse.when they went to replace the fuse, the car started smoking to the point where i could not even see.i thought the car was going to explode so i took my son and started running.everyone in the parking lot started running also.they lifted the hood, and noticed that the brake cut off switch for cruise control was burning and he put it out.this has been a huge recall for many other years for ford, but not for mine.now ford wants to charge me because my vehicles year is not included in the recall.this is a manufacturer error and it is wrong for me to have to pay for this myself.if my son and i would have died, ford would be looking at a major lawsuit.i am willing to take this as far as i have to because i honestly believe ford is trying to get away with this.this was a very frightening incidence.

On easter sunday march 27 2005, my family (3 young boys and my wife) left my moms house at about 10:20 am to head to church, my wife was driving, and as we got out onto the main highway road route 360 hull st. My wife set on the cruise control and about 60. Speed limit is 55 after about 20 seconds she needed to take off the cruise due to another car upcoming, when she went to get off the cruise it would not come out of cruise control and the speed went back up to like 80...at this point my wife and i tried to press on brakes, and press the off buttons, andnothing....we could not stop!!!!i finally told my wife to put both off her feet as hard as they could on the brakes.... The car finally got down to about 30 and we got over on the shoulder, and i quickly jerked it into neutral, and we stopped....as i got out, the freakin tires were on fire!!!!!seriouslyflames were coming out of the brakes and tires....oh did i mention we had 3 young children in the vehicle.....come to find out the cruise switch got stuck....thank the good lord jesus we were on a stretch of road with no stop lights or heavy traffic....2000 ford explorer sportford sucks!!!! could have killed myself and my whole family.

About three years ago my garage burned to the ground.a police investigation found a hot spot where my 2000 explorer was parked but had no reasonable cause for the fire.the same cruise control switch on on other models has been recalled but for some reason i didn`t get one for this vehicle.ican find out the exact dates but at this time the dates are estimated.
