I was leaving the store parking lot. I started the car, pressed the break, put the vehicle in drive and the passenger side airbag deployed. This is the second time this has happened since the first incident in september 2014. The vehicle was not hit or bumped in any way. I was not backing out, i was in drive to pull out of the space.

The driver was driving down the expressway and her back tire blew out causing her vehicle to spiral out of control and the vehicle then flipped and started rolling downhill, the vehicle airbags did not deploy in the vehicle at all. The driver and her mother are in critical condition. Yes, the safety of others safety was put at risk. I did contact ford manufacturer on her behind of the airbags and they said there is nothing they can do for her with the vehicle being totaled out. But my main problem is why these airbags did not deploy. The vehicle is going to be inspected by her insurance company here in the next few days. There were no prior lamps, messages, or anything that would have indicated that the airbags were defective.

I was picking my daughter up from school. We got into the car put our seatbelts on i started the vehicle and put it in gear. I picked my foot up and moved to the gas when i noticed a car coming up from beside me and then i pressed the brake and the passenger side airbag deployed cracking the windshield and pulling the dash cover away from the radio and air vent. We called ford motor and we were told to take it to a dealership to be examined. Ford customer care has left messages at our home number when we return the calls we ask them to call our cell numbers and they will not. I think the do not want to talk to us. A week later the dealership called and said that ford motor would pay for the diagnostic but would not pay for the repairs because the car is out of warranty. That the airbag failing is no different then having to change out the brakes from wear and tear. We were not aware that a safety feature had an expiration date. I was to the understanding that a safety feature should last the lift time of the vehicle. Because of this i am worried about driving any cars with airbags. We were not asking ford motor for anything additional but to just repair the car and we can never talk to anyone at the company.

While driving, thepassenger side and driver side air bags unexpectedly deployed. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.the consumer received a call from the engineering department who informed the consumer the air bag deployed because the restraint module had received a signal from the crash sensors indicating an excessive lateral force that exceeded the threshold of its design for deployment.

Vehicle engine stop while driving on the road.driving as normal, approx 30 mph when vehicle just stops.extremely difficult to steer or brake.perfect weather, no environmental issues--normal temperature, etc.incident occurred twice, approx one year apart.took into repair shop to diagnose, no code left on computer.

When i pull down my steering wheel, the left blinker does not work neither does the brake lights.if the wheel is upevery thingworks.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. The contact stated that the vehicle ignited in flames while parked in the driveway. The contact did not disclose how the fire was extinguished. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.

On july 28 while my wife was driving our new explorer sport trac it just stop running. She started it up and it ran for about 1min then cut off again stranding her in the middle of a highway in a turn lane we reported it to ford it took over 2 hrs for them to get a tow truck to tow the truck to the dealer it also happened on the 27th. Also the owners manual pages are not right when you look at about how to change a tire it give you a page number and it shows something else likehow to change oil.

Sitting at a stop sign vehicle went into acceleration gas peddle went to floor. Foot was on the brake. Checked no carpet stuck under the gas peddle. Foot was not touching gas peddle. It was almost like the cruise control was pressing the gas peddle. Cruise control was off. Shut vehicle off then back on issue went away. This has happened other times to myself and my wife. Sometimes while pushing the gas the gas peddle leaves your foot and continues to the floor on its own, pressing the brake and turning vehicle off seems to resolve the issue. This issue happens so in frequently that it is hard to reproduce for service shop.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle abnormally decelerated to 40 mph. In addition, there was smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact was informed by another driver that sparks were coming from under the vehicle. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the shoulder and discovered that there were flames under the driver's side of the vehicle. The fire department was called and a fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was not repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 182,000.

Dt: the consumer stated that2003 ford explorer sport trac special edition with avalanche on the back was having astalling problem. Theanti-theft device light blinked on the dashboard, and then the vehicleshut off the power. Theconsumertookthe truck to the repair shop seven to eight times for this problem. The truck has been in the shop longer than it has been with the consumer. The dealershipput the edr on the truck, and found no information. The truck stalled when the light cameon. The dealership was stunned because they couldnot figure out what the cause of theproblem was.the consumer was afraid to drive the vehicle. He tried to trade the truck in for a new vehicle, but the dealershipwould not give the consumerenough money for the truck.the dealership told the consumer that they did not want the truck and would be afraid to sell the truck to someone else. There have been engineers from ford to examine the truck and still no one could figure out the problem. Speed was 30 mph and under. The consumercontacted ford personally, and they were aware of the problem.

Ants have eaten into the computer on my 1994 ford explorer last year . This year even though i put out poison on the ground and sprayed the motor and inside of both vehicles they got into the dash of my 03 and started eating the (looms) what ever that is and the wiring to my air bags.has anyone else had this problem and what did they do to stop it? what are they making the wiring out of.

My engine went out after only 140000 miles on it with no warning. I know several people that own a 2003 ford explorer and there engine went out after only with 100000 miles on it. It cost me over 3200.00 for it to be repaired.

Took vehicle in fluid changes, complete check, and to investigate a leak under vehicle. After "complete" check said they found bad serpentine belt, air filter and but nothing valve cover gaskets as cause of leak. Cost to repair gaskets over $1000. While doing repair they called again and said they found that the rear timing cartridge was broken and pieces of it missing. Told me that bolt was wore half way through as timing chaining was rubbing it. Said if it breaks before repair engine will "blow" and need to be replaced. Told me it would costs over $2,500 to replace this cartridge. Total cost was now over $4,000. I asked why part wasbad when engine only had 84,000 miles and why this wasn't found with the "complete" check. Mechanic stated only saw it because he had things apart to fix valve cover gaskets. Told me it was a plastic part and even with low mileage the plastic deteriorates with time. Said part only designed to last 100,000 miles. If i am to believe this ford mechanic, ford uses a plastic part in a crucial part of the engine (timing) and if that part fails the engine will "blow". And they cannot know the part is bad unless they have the engine apart for other major repairs. So if the valve cover gaskets were not leaking the issue would have been undetected by the ford maintenance "complete" check up. In addition ford has not issued a warning that this engine will possibly "blow" after only 100,000 miles if this part not replaced by a $2,500.00 - $3,000.00 repair. Ford should pay for this repair. They design a vehicle this way with no warning to the buyers/owners.if i am to believe the ford mechanic there is no way to really know you may have a problem.how are we to protect ourselves?my friend showed me this site and did some searching on other blogs/sites dealing with vehicle issues.there are numerous cases of this unacceptable issue.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. The contact was driving with the vehicle speed control engaged at 68 mph when the failure occurred. The vehicle began to decelerate and some smoke was present underneath the vehicle. When the contact opened the hood there was no evidence of smoke in the engine area. The contact was concerned about the housing unit being cracked other than for being defective, cold temperature or high heat that comes in contact with it. The housing unit should never split apart. The thermostat housing unit was leaking. The over drive warning light illuminated prior to the failure. The contact was forced to drive the vehicle onto the emergency lane. The vehicle would drive forward or in reverse and it also failed to function in first gear. The vehicle would only move forward in second gear. The contact was able to continue driving five miles in second gear to his residence at 35 mph. After the failure occurred the contact also added anti freeze to the vehicle. The transmission also failed shortly after the failure occurred and he was unable to drive in reverse gear. The mechanic stated that the bands in the transmission may have caused the failure to occur. A local mechanic replaced the thermostat housing unit which has three hoses attached to it. Ford was currently checking the transmission to determine the cause of failure.the failure mileage was 96,600. The current mileage was 96,620.

Faulty cylinder head causing a thrown spark plug, and a broken coil pack.

I was going back home to miami and my car 2003 ford explorer sport trac caught on fire at the exit of the midtown tunnel in new york city. The fire started in the front motor at thepassenger side.the police used 3 fire extinguishers but all the effort they did was not enough.my car was completely on fire. The motor, the seats , all the interior was completely destroy by the fire. The fireman arrived after a few minutes, but it was to late. I bought this car cash brand new from sawgrass ford in ft lauderdale florida.i did not have full cover and i lost every thing..i was in new york with my family and with no car to go back home.. I called ford and they told me that they are not responsible for anything that happen to that car.i am sure this is not fair to me or to anybody.the car was a 2003 and only had about46,000 miles.

I purchased my 2003 sportrack in december of 2002 from sunrise ford.i drove my suv home, parked it and went inside for less than 20 minutes.when i came out to drive drive my guests around the block, the vehicle would not start.i called sunrise ford and spoke with the service department.they sent the sales person to my place rather than a mechanic.he basically belittled me infront of my guests by telling me i did something to my car.it was embarassing enough that the vehicle would not start now i had to deal with the sales person, who as it turns out knew absolutely nothing about the sportrack, telling me i did something wrong to my vehicle to make it not want to start.he finally called the service department, had a mechanic come out and they tried to start it.no luck.long story short i found sunrise ford's sales and support staff were very hard to work with right after my sale.i felt misleaded.from arranging a loaner because of this problem to getting a qualified person to diagnose my vehicle.i had had the car nearly 1 week before the problem could be completely solved.my next problem began in august of 2003, roughly 9 months later.it is now stalling.most cases have been while stopping for a stop sign or light.other times just after leaving the stop light or sign, it usually stalls immediately when i accecelerate. The worst case has been while on the on ramp to the freeway. In all cases i lost all power, except for the radio, and was able to restart the engine.after having the ford dealership run a diagnnostic test on my vehicle the found nothing...

Engine & multiple parts in 2003 ford are not 2003, they are 2001 & 2002. 2002 engine and earlier had a tsb for the timing chain guides & oiling. Even though taken into the dealership with that complaint, mine was supposed to be 2003, not affected by those problems, so service did not repair for tsb. Later on timing jumped because guides not replaced, bent valve and ruined the engine to tune of $5,000, plus parts spent to get to that point & rental cars. Should be noted the first replacement motor installed by ford ran only 15 minutes before it blew from timing chain defect/poor manufacturing.history: before end of 75,000 mile extended warranty i took the sport trac into the dealer to take care of all the little complaints. One complaint was slight rattle type of sound when the car was cold/cold morning. Dealer suggested an engine flush & to switch to full synthetic oil. That did help for several thousand miles.engine rattle came back, only very occasional but worse sound than before on real cold mornings. Was coasting toward red light, light changed & i gave it gas, engine started missing severely as i took off w/check engine light coming on. Limped the car home. Put code reader on & started replacing parts called for, mostly tune up, then egr components, etc., new code thrown after every repair. Smog parts for 2003 did not fit, i had to take the parts back & exchange them for 2001. When engine was changed service rep told me engine in car was 2002, even had to replace thermostat housing because routing was different, angle incorrect, not 2003, i took pictures of block & #'s, not a 2003, it is 2002 (pictures show my engine, no dirt accumulation at all). Carb states i cannot install an engine older than the chassis into the car, most especially older smog components. Can ford?can ford sell a car as new, specific model year, but use leftover parts from previous years & still call it a new car? isn't this fraud? how can vehicle be repaired, tsbs followed, etc.?

The vehicle expelled gasoline everytime the consumer was refueling the tank and the gas pump automatically shut off, as it is designed to do.the process of filling the tank increased five fold, taking approximately 25-30 minutes, because the pump repeatedly shut off and expelled gas.the manufacturer was notified and was aware of the problem but there was no current fix for the problem.the emergency brake needed adjusting and the check engine light illuminated. *mr *scc *nlm

Vehicle shuts down when driving---both low and high speed--brakes, steering, electrical, gas--all quit.after a few minutes the car will start again.has happened numerous times.dealer, vista ford, says nothing wrong/can't duplicate.

Vehicle engine missing and lost power while attempting to accelerate onto on-ramp. Attempt to restart failed. Had to call for tow. Dealership couldn't find anything wrong.*nlm

Constant loud squeal coming from serpentine belt, replaced by dealership and i had to purchase, still squeal, warranty and replaced, still squealed dealership called ford, ford suggested stronger belt that normally does not go in this truck.currently no squeal.total belts: 4

Issue is non safety related.issue with known manufacturers defect covered under warranty that cannot be repaired and will not be replaced.purchased vehicle new in september of 2003.desired feature was hard tonneau cover to keep bed dry and secure.cover leaked.took back to dealer after approximately a year and a half to get repaired and was told that "leaking" was not a covered item per ford warranty group and that it was expected.told to resolve with customer service if had further questions.called customer service to clarify why they didn't consider leaking a covered item and was told it was covered and they would work with dealer to understand why not fixed.got call back next day stating that ford was aware of leaking issues and while should be a warranty covered item, they did not know how to fix or if they ever would.was told to check back periodically to see if any fix had been issued.ford is not honoring their stated warranty.it has been 2 years since my 2003 was put on the market and still no fix for the issue which ford says they have been aware of.my $600 spent on a tonneau cover to keep the bed dry is wasted and ford is still selling this tonneau cover to other consumers.

Steering wheel shakes while making sharp, slow right or left turns.dealer not sure what the problem is,says all sport tracks do that, however when i bought it, it didn't.i drove another new one from the dealer while mine was in service...and the steering was fine.also, the a/c compressor is out and being replaced and i've only made one payment.

I purchased a new 2003 ford explorer sport trac this year and the headlights are made so that you cannot adjust them for side vision.i have had the truck to two different dealers and the technicians say that it is a design fault.driving this vehicle at night is comparable to having tunnel vision.my truck is equipped with fog lights and they do help with the side vision but they only work on low beam.even with the fog lightsthe area to the side of the truck are blacked out.in the months that i have had this vehicle i have only driven about six times at night.i do not know anyone else that owns a similar truck so i haven't been able to find out if everyone has this problem or just me.

I have a bad problem ( 2 ) times with the fuel pump the first one was spraying gas out top exterior of fuel pump .my husband went to a wrecking yard and purchased a used fuel pumpthan 5 to 6 months later done the same thing spraying out top exterior elbow of fuel pump. I use my truck to take my daughter back and forth to school and it is a very dangerous cause the fumes were really bad inside of cab and plus if some one was to throw a cigaretteor anything that could ignite the leaking gas . I think that this matter should be fixed cause i know that i am not the only one that had or hasthis problemand not to say all of the other things that are wrong like my high beams not working the front door window is very slow going up and down and the back door ( passenger right side ) blow motor and ect.the big one is the fuel pump i fell that this is the worst and it should be fix before someone gets badly hurt or killed.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The contact also stated that she attempted on several occasions to start the vehicle while depressing the accelerator pedal, but it would not start. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop, who diagnosed that the fuel pump was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. The contact stated that the fuel pump was replaced a total of four times within the past six months. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance and referred the contact to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 82,500 and the current mileage was 82,600.

Vehicle will stall after sitting overnight and the engine has not reach normal operating temperature, fuel tank full and the vehicle is proceeding up an incline. When vehicle stalls you can start the vehicleand proceed. After reaching normal operating temperature or the vehicle have travel forty to eighty miles on the tank of gas it will not duplicate the problem until you refill the tank again. If the tank is kept full or no more than one or two gallons are used up.it will not stall. I have had it back for repair five or six times but no luck. The last visit to the dealer they put a recorder on the vehicle which i kept for three weeks and it recorded the stall.the dealer stated that it was being overfilled but i never overfill the vehicle and i explained that to them. I purchase the vehicle new on 7/31/03 and drove it home on the tank of gas the dealer put in it.the vehicle sat for ten days while i was on vacation and when i returned i drove it the next day and it stalled and it had not been refueled. The tank was still full from the dearler's original fill-up. I took it back the first time 8/19/03 and the dealer replace a part(valve) that they indicated may have been defective but it did not fix the problem. *la

While driving on the freeway vehicle decelerated 5 mph before regulating speed.after exiting freeway, vehicle died at stop light.vehicle towed to dealership where they informed me the inertia switch, located under kick plate on passenger side, was damaged and thus cut off the fuel pump.once fixed, vehicle ran fine.this is a safety device in case of an accident, but it is located in a very bad location.

When filling gas tank of ford sport trac, gasoline suddenly and without warning sprayed out of filler pipe covering my cloths with gasoline. I took vehicle back to dealer and told it has been repaired. Next time i filled the tank, gasoline again without warning erupted from fill pipe and sprayed on my shoes and pants. Again returned the automobile to dealer and told that the vent pipe had water in it. Told that it had been fixed. After auto returned it filled once without difficulty. However, the second time i tried to filled it, gasoline sprayed out of fill pipe. I immediately returned to dealer. This time i was told there was a ford "service bulletin" on the vehicle indicating that vent hole was too large and water and other material could therefore into vent pipe. Dealer repaired automobile but would not release automobile until $500.00 repair bill paid, despite ford acknowledging that this was a manufacturer's defect in certain sport trac models.this is a very dangerous defect, causing gasoline to spray all over people and run out on the ground. With the admission that it is a defect, ford should be required to recall all sport trac and pay for repairs. Does it require that someone first be burning to death before appropriate action is taken?

Gasoline is expelled from the filler pipe everytime i try to refuel the tank.the problem worsens with each attempt to refuel because the gas pumps continuously shut off for safety reasons.dealer has replaced a safety valve to the tank which temporarily helped but the problem is now worse than ever. There is currently no manufacturer's recall for this problem.

When refueling gas shoots back up through filler pipe onto consumer.

I have had fuel tank issues for a year now and they are getting worse. My gauge stopped working about 13 months ago which was no big deal. Now i am unable to put more then 4-5 gallons of gas in at a time. The safety sensor stops the pump from filling up my tank and if i try to do it a little at a time it just shoots gas out of my fill area and gets everywhere. I have been doused in gas and i have run out of gas in very bad areas. The sensor replacement was only a temporary fix, now it's impossible to put gas in my tank and it's starting to run poorly. I have to stop everyday for gas. This is a malfunctioning ford part that should be recalled and replaced. I have run out of gas and when that happens every thing shuts down including the power steering. It was dangerous and difficult to maneuver my truck, i was getting on the freeway and the on ramp was a semi-circle.

Takata recall .. The smell of fuel inside the cab and outside is really bad. It's making me sick and giving me headaches. The truck doesn't run right and the mileage is awful.

Dt the passengers rear door handle broke off the vehicle and the driver's side rear door handle was stuck.had to get out and open the door in order to get the rear driver side door open. Now,on the driver's side rear the handle has broke off. Started noticing the problem with the door latches onjuly 31, 2005.contacted the dealer and the manufacturer, and they said it would be over $300.00 to have them fixed.

2003 ford sport trac safety parking brake release malfunctioned.five year old daughter pulled gear shift into neutral without pressing the brake. Car rolled backwards into lake and submerged.i was able to get her out befor it sank.

Truck was running fine. Then on several occasions it would slip out of gear while i was coming off of or onto exit ramps. Seemed like as the engine decelerated it would slip into neutral. Sometimes it would eventually find the gear and sometimes i had to come to a complete stop, which was really scary since i was in traffic when this happened. A short time late (a matter of weeks). I noticed it would not go into gear when the truck was cold (after sitting overnight. This has rapidly progressed into almost complete failure. I can still get the truck to move if i shift manually into l1 or l2 but d does not work at all. Additionally i noticed that sometimes my o/d light would be blinking and sometime o/d would go completely off and the truck would not shift into high gear. I found if i stopped, turned the truck off and restarted it would often fix the issue. This is not longer true. I will be taking the truck to my mechanic on monday. I looked up the issue and see that this is common complaint with many early 2000 ford vehicles. Shame the company does not recognize it's failure and stand up and fix it.i did not have any accident due to this issue but i could see if this failure occurred as someone was pulling into traffic or in the middle of heavy traffic that this could definitely cause a serious accident.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. While driving on an incline, the transmission slipped and the engine rpms increased abnormally. The vehicle stalled and the overdrive warning indicator illuminated. The failure occurred approximately ten times and at various speeds. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

My ford sport trac has failed to lock when the gear shift is put into the park position.when you start to get out the vehicle will roll and you will hear a clicking noise in the transmission.it has done this for some time and i had it fixed once but it is doing it again.

This ford explorer sport track wasbought new. I previously had a ford explorer. The reason i traded was because of the roll over rate. The dealership where i purchased this vehicle gave me a run down on the newly designed explorer tellin me that the new design had corrected the roll over problem in whick ford motor company has had several law suits. I have two grandchilden we are raising and i most curtainly don't feel safe in this vehicle after reading the articles on this site and the article in the fort worth star telegram. I have had this vehicle in the shop twice for transmission problems and powersteering problems.both times they said they found nothing. Please advise me in what i should do.

With no advance warning, the o/d off light began flashing and the transmission began to slip.mechanic said the transmission is shot. I have not done any of the work yet, as i can not afford $3000 in repairs.i have since found out that this problem occurs on a large number of ford explorers.

Transmission went out at 89,000 miles. This is the second ford i've had that the transmission went out at 89,000. I have also had several brake issues that ford refused to address after extended warranty expired.

The vehicle was purchased new with a bent frame and a bent rear axle.the vehicle was difficult to steer.6 sets of tires were used and replaced during this defect.the consumer took the vehicle to dealer where it was diagnosed as a bent frame.however, the dealer will do nothing about the problem.there was a vibration in the front of the vehicle, the dealers didn't find a problem.a couple of weeks later, the consumer noticed that the tires were worn on the inside. The consumer was informed that the rear end was tilted and there was no adjustment for this.the consumer was informed that the frame was bent.three sets of tires in 20k miles and about 2 weeks later, they had to replace 1 of the back tires again.the noise and vibration remained the same.the consumer requested to be compensated for the bent frame.the rear differential cover leaked.*sc

Seat belt won't retract.

I was hit from behind and pushed into a vehicle in front of me.during the impact, my seatback (driver's) moved back slightly and the center of the seat back collapsed, causing me to injure my back.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. The contact stated that while driving approximately 34 mph down a mountain, the brakes were engaged and the rear end of the vehicle started to abruptly move from side to side. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the guard rail. The driver's side curtain air bag and passenger's dash board air bags deployed. Also, the contact mentioned that as the passenger's side air bag deployed, flames emitted out of it. A police report was filed and the contact sustained neck and back injuries which required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

While driving and attempting to apply the brakes they failed intermittently.no impact reported. The vehicle was taken to the dealer.the technician test drove the vehicle but could not duplicate the failure.the master cylinder was replaced but the brakes failed again after it was replaced.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer at left for two weeks.during that time the failure could not be duplicated.the consumer feels that the entire brake system should be replaced since the dealer is unable to correct the problem.

2003 ford explorer sportrac, intermittently brake pedal goes to floor, pedal vibrates, unable to stop.no accident yet but very scary situation.scheduled to have dealer inspect on 8/8/2011.this has happened several times.no error codes on vehicle diagnostics. This could cause a serious accident!!

While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle jerked and vibrated.the brake pedal went to the floor. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem. Please provide further details.

Cruise control does not engage most of the time.i power the system on, but when pressing the set button, the system power quickly blinks on and off. Brake pedal is not depressed, it occurs at any speed.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. The contact stated that the power steering fluid leaked onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the power steering high pressure tube fractured as a result of rust. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 73,300. Updated 5/27/14

Steering wheel binds while trying to merge onto the interstate.this binding does not allow the vehicle to be turned.

Body mounts prematurely deteriorating and crumbling.body rides loose on frame, which can impact safety of the vehicle and handing in an accident.all body mounts for the cab of the vehicle have failed and fall apart to the touch.since this vehicle is a body on frame design, failed body mounts cannot keep the cab firmly attached to the frame of the truck.apparently the rubber material used was detective.

The cab to frame mounting bolt bushings, and steering stabilizer bushings arehave and are crumbling. All need to be replaced. I feel ford is aware of this problem and should have to fix it. I just inherited this truck and just found out about this. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. The contact stated that the driver's side rear body mount fractured and was protruding through the bottom of the cab. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. . updated 04/11/12 updated 04/30/12

Both rear doors failed to open from the inside after being used only a few dozen times each. The cause was the interior door handle (plastic) broke inside the door. This is a big safety issue because this means that rear seat passengers cannot egress the vehicle without it being opened by someone on the outside. This is evidently a common problem with many ford vehicles using this door handle - there should have been a recall issued years ago.

If the removable liftgate has any pressure on the bottom, it will release.when it releases, it is heavy enough to cause harm or injury to a person.please provide further details.

I was driving to work on 1/12/06 at 6:15 am. It was rush hour traffic and all of the sudden my hood flew up. I couldn't see a thing. I had to merge over 3 lanes to get to the shoulder of the road. I couldn'tsee anything in front of me because the hood of my truck completely covered my front window.when i got to the shoulder of the highway a highway patrol stopped. He said that he was amazed that i wasn't seriously injured or even dead.i got the hood to come back down. The hood wouldn't latch because it was bent up. I had to drive 15 mph down the side of the highway until i could take an off ramp. I had to take all the back roads and drive down the shoulder of the road to get back home. My husband and ipulled up the hood and were shocked to see what the issue was. The hook that locked down my hood was gone. The entire hood hinge and attachment was missing. The only way we knew it was ever there were the 2 screws that held it there. Icalled the dealership and told them what happened. They kind of dismissed it like i was overstating the facts. The hood was shut. I didn't hit a pot hole or anything. My husband took the truck over to the dealership. As soon as they saw it they said they couldn't believe it. It had to be a manufacturer's defect. They said they had to look it over and talk to their manager and then they would call us.we called back on friday, 1-13-06. They assured me it was a manufacturer's defect and they were going to replace the hood, grill area under the windshield wipers, and do something with the to front quarter panels because they were bent up from the hood flipping up. They told me it would be done by tuesday and at no cost to me. It is1/19/06and they told my husband they haven't ordered anything and they said they haven't had the time. They said they aren't putting new parts back on my truck. Why is that. I shouldn't have to pay for ford's manufacture defect that could have killed me.

My aunt's vehicle was involved in an accident where the vehicle rolled several times.the front pillar on the driver's side collapsed allowing the roof to collapse almost down to the level of the steering wheel.there was also a lack of availability of side curtain airbags on the vehicle.the accident resulted in the death of the driver of the vehicle.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving a rattling noise was heard. This occurredat various speeds.upon inspection, a fracture was observed on the frame of the rear driver's side .the fracture became larger over time.the dealership was unable to determine the cause of the fracture, but recommended removing the bolts, and adding a metal patch to the frame.updated 06/07/2006.

We had purchased this vehicle bout a year ago and when we got it we went to get tires and front end alignment and they ended up replacing upper nd lower ball joints, control arm and sway bar on passenger side.this was 6/20/2017. It wasn't making any noise until 1/3/2018. I was going down city street and something popped and then it started roaring. If you put in 4wd it roars loader and jerks. 1/23/18 replaced drivers side wheel hub and bearings. It still roars while accelerating speed but not as bad in 2wd but put in 4wd its real loud and jerks you . I have done research online for this year model sport trac and it seems like there are several complaints about this same issue. Everytime get one thing fixed on front end something else happens to it. You can drive it but if you get over 10-15 mph the roaring gets worse and it locked the the whole wheel up and jerked the truck to the side of the road

It started with humming vibrating noise in the front end left tire ending with front wheel bearing failure and small fire to the wheel bearing rubber boot and hard pulling to the left too dangerous to drive this is a major mechanical failure after inspecting i fount that only the one nut was holding tire on.

I have had to replace lower ball joints in my 2003 sport trac multiple times.at 37000 and at 60000 miles.

Tire alignment failure.

1) improper alignment specifications2) destruction of all 4 goodyear tires3) ford denied to replace tires although there is a technical service bulletin(05-11-11) pertaining to this issue.

After driving several miles without incident, i pulled into traffic and accelerated to about 45 mph then let up on peddle but vehicle continued to accelerate. To bring it under control i had to turn the ignition off and at that point, lost power steering and some brakes. I had car towed to local dealer and have not yet heard from them.

My sport truck 2003 caught on fire on march 26, 2007 i reported complain to fordand they say they were not responsible for this.today september 20/07 my friend car has a recall for the speed control deactivation switch posing the risk of an underhood fire.this is what happened to my car and ford does not want to admit that the reason for the fire was it.my car was a total loss.i was driving with all my family in the car.i did not have full coverage on my car since my car was paid in full when i bought it in sagrass ford in ft. Lauderdale florida.

Cruise control does not engage most of the time.i power the system on, but when pressing the set button, the system power quickly blinks on and off. Brake pedal is not depressed, it occurs at any speed.

On numerous occasions while parking when pressing brake pedal my foot has pressed down on the accelerator linkage causing the engine to race and the vehicle to crip forward. The harder i press the brake the more the engine revs.on jun 6th 2003 my son had an accident where the vehicle went off the road and traveled approx. 700 feet before he was able to stop the vehicle. His only comment was he could not stop. I believe it was because his foot was pressing on the accelerator linkage. My son wears a size 12 shoe and i wear a size 14. The pedals hav eless than 4" horizonal seperation.there is less than 1/2" vertical clearance between brake pedal and accelerator linkage.

Traveling on a major highway 65-70mph, the right front wheel and tire came off. All 5 studs had snapped/sheared off. Went on the internet, turns out this is not an isolated incident. Please help!!!!! my daughter drives the exact vehicle so do millions of other individuals.
