The front of my vehicle was damaged by hitting the pole on the pasenge side in line with the seat, totaling the vehicle and ripping off the front passenger tire and conecting parts, further damage to the center of the vehicle when it struck the afore mentioned barrier.i don't know if this is a legitimate complaint or even a complaint. But i was told that my air bags should have deployed as i crashed going faster than 14 mph, they did not deploy. I wish they did because i was hurt and am still feeling some of the injuries since july 6, 2004 ( over 3 weeks ago ). I felt like evil kenevil after missing a jump. While i was driving down the interstate with a family member and some friends both side curtain airbags deployed simultaneously for no reason. It was like a gun went off next to our ears. Due to the odor and dust in the vehicle we rolled down our windows to avoid inhaling the powdery substance. I am amazed we didn't wreck. We were traumatized by the intensity of the incident. Many of us had ringing in our ears for sometime and i had chest pains for the rest of the evening. Words really cannot describe how terrifying it was. We tried to figure out what may have been the reason for the deployment. There was no reason whatsoever that gave cause to the deployment. There were no other cars around us, we didn't bump into anything nor did anything bump into us. It scared me so bad that i had my husband and son come pick me up from a friends house because i was afraid the front airbag might go off and didn't want to take that risk.

While driving on smooth paved road, pow!!side curtain airbags on passenger and driver side deployed.i did not swerve, hit a pothole or any type of impact they just popped out and scared me to death!i have had the vehicle towed to local ford dealership where car was purchased.i have not heard back from them yet.

My side curtain air bags deployed for no reason. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they said they could not do anything about it because it is out of warranty. The 5 year safety restraint warranty ended a 1 month ago. The service manager inspected the vehicle and ran a diagnostic test and said there is no reason they should have gone off. They are lucky my wife was only in a parking lot when it happened or somebody might have been killed.the service manager said he was in touch with detroit and they said not to fix it. I have owned several fords and never had any problems but this is just stupid.

Bothroof air bags inadvertently deployed while driving on the highway at 65 mph, under normal weather/driving conditions. The cruise control was engaged when the failure occurred. The cruise control disengaged its' self several times prior to the failure. Took the vehicle to the dealer, where they tucked the air bags, and the consumer continued to travel.manufacturer stated they will repair if a defect is found. Cruise control did not work at times on the consumers vehicle.*tc

When driving home from seattle wa. To walla walla wa. At a speed of 70 mph the vehicle died and i had to get off the road, it then restarted and did it to me 3 more times. When i took it to the shop the mechanic stated that it was in the fuse box. He had just did a replacement on the same type vehicle that had caught fire. It is the fuel relay in the fuse box that malfunctions and catches fire. I feel this is a safety issue.

Battery drains, took fuse to radio out and fixed the problem for a while but then the locks started to act on there own no way to fix dealers keep saying they never heard of the problem or they want to try things but all they end up dong is costing me more money. But i have found hundreds of people on the internet with the same problems.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that after turning the vehicle on and shifting into drive, numerous electrical systems failed. Vehicle fails to start.multiple squeaks and rattles from dash - into dealer three times to repair - unable to resolve at dealeship level.

Was driving down the road and my expedition just shut down. All power off and steering wheel locked up. Was stuck in middle of the road. Had it towed to ford dealership who replaced the mainfuse. It happened again 6 months later. Once again had to have it towed. Once again main fuse blew and my suv lost all power. Ford dealership gave us extra fuses. Since then it has happened twice, once about a month ago and we replaced the main fuse . The last time which was thursday, january 17th, my teenage son was driving and he ran off the road into a ditch. Wheel rim bent but he thankfully was just shook up and not injured.this time it was not the fuse but the suv just lost power and steering locked and he went off the road. Missed a tree by a few feet. When this first began to happen i called ford and wrote them multiple letters. They were polite, but stated is was not their problem since car had 120,000 miles on it.

Also like many other complaints i have seen, the 2004 ford expedition i have has shut off on me several times while driving and i was told to switch out the entire fuse box. I called the dealer and they said to replace it, it would be about $500 for it. It's ridiculous ford hasn't issued a recall because this seems like a problem many people are having as well. We have almost gotten into a couple of accidents because of this issue! we can't keep having to rely on one less vehicle, but what other alternative do we have if it's going to cost us, the consumer, a lot of money to replace for something the manufacturer should be responsible for.

Vehicle lost power for 3-5 seconds at highway speeds approximately 65 mph on three separate events. Vehicle slowed down due to power loss while in heavy traffic. Three other times at idle speed in drive and in park engine stalled and immediately restarted. Loss of power steering due to engine not running when stall event happened. I performed inspection of fuel pump relay which is internal to passenger side fuse block. Found inadequate solder joint on integrated relay printed circuit and burn marks on outside of fuel pump relay. Located salvage fuse block same make and model and inspected. Same damage on salvage fuse block assembly. Replaced with aftermarket fuse block with revised solder joint and updated relay.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving 35 mph, the side air bags deployed without warning. The battery, engine, and low oil indicators illuminated after the air bag deployment. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The passenger sustained neck injuries while seated in a child safety seat located in the rear of the vehicle. Medical attention was not required. A police report was filed under complaint number: 170606882. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 149,904.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart, but the failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness and the ecu needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

After owning the vehicle for about 3 months the battery went dead, i put a new battery in it and it worked fine for about 2 weeks then it was dead again. I hooked it to a diagnostic machine and no codes. I then replaced the alternator and now there is a code but since the 1st incident i had to disconnect the battery every time i turn the engine off or after 4 to 8 hours the battery is dead again. I haven't had the codes check yet but i will soon.

I am the 2nd owner of this vehicle. Had problem w/ drivers seat & mirror fuse blowing out since i purchased truck in august 2011.some time in 2012i started having additional problems w/ my truck like radio &/or heating/air not coming on when started. Check engine light going on & off & back windshield wiper stopped working. Then it was the vehicle was dying quickly by leaving the radio on for 10 min after vehicle was turned off. We replaced the battery & terminals that connect at the positive & negative.we had plenty of other issues like the entire brake lines needing replacing due to rusting. There is now rusting on other parts of the truck. Blew fuse to air conditioner 2x. Things seem to be ok after battery was replaced until the truck shut off several times while driving it over the past year. Sometimes if you waited 5-10 minutes it would restart. Vehicle has been in shop & nothing comes back on diagnostic test. We have had the alternator & fuel pump tested. The cables to the battery were just found rotted & replaced but something is still killing my battery. The fuse box has been making loud click noises when the truck struggles to start. Today it wouldn't start again until jumped & now the radio wouldn't go on. At the shop again & the mechanic is stumped but working on it! from research it seems to be either a fuel pump relay that is apparently sodder into the fuse box & almost impossible to replace w/ replacing the whole box or it is the fuse box itself. I am also seeing claims of water leaking down windshield & getting into fuse box. All i know is ford should acknowledge & recall before someone gets killed! my children were in the car several times now when it staled while i was driving or stuck in parking lot & even a severe thunderstorm when it won't start. And now i'm reading the fuse box has caught fire in some of these cars! i rely on this vehicle!

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact turned the engine off and exited the vehicle. Suddenly, a fan blowing noise came from underneath the hood area and the interior lights blinked continuously. The engine was restarted and turned off. However, the failure continued to occur. When the battery cable was disconnected the failures stopped. The failures occurred under rainy conditions on several separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician stated the failure was contributed to water leaking into the smart junction box apart of the electrical system. The contact scheduled an appointment for diagnostic testing. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was unknown. Updated 7/16/10 the consumer stated the failure has been corrected, even though she had to pay out of pocket. Updated 07/22/10

This has occurred a three times in last month...first being in july.i park my vehicle, turn ignition off and pull out key and the air conditioner is still blowing and radio is still going for a couple seconds after key is pulled out...only a couple seconds and immediately shuts itself off.this is definitely an electrical or ignition issue.i do know radio will stay on until door opened, thats a feature of the vehicle, but this is different, air stays blowing?? not sure if this is related to above issue but also having an problem with electrical(?) under the hood, at times the vehicle while sitting at a light or drive thru tries to die so much so that you can see the instrument panel lights trying to go out as the car attempts to die. I have put a brand new battery in a couple months ago but its not that, its a weird issue like while holding brake down, it just attempts to die and this is only at times, not every time. When on gas, never an issue at all. Car runs great but seems to have an electrical problem somewhere.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact inserted the key in the ignition and the vehicle would not start. The contact stated there was a code in the owners manual for the security alarm system to deactivate and believed that to be the cause of the failure. The contact entered the code and after waiting a few minutes the vehicle restarted. The failure recurred a second time. The contact used the same code but the vehicle would not start until the following day. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that he would need to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 129,999.

I have had problems with my 2004 ford expedition with the electrical system.it seems any time it rains or i wash the car there is some kind of electrical short that shuts it down.i've heard there is a problem in the windshield that water leaks to the electrical box causing problems.i am having the same problems, but what worries me is that i smell something burning.i am concerned that this problem my eventually cause a fire while driving.

While driving a 2004 ford expedition 178,000 kept stalling on the highway and streets. I had it towed several times because it won't start back on the next day it would turn on. Had the fuel pump replaced and still having the same problems it turn off on my 18 year old sonlike 5 times going to school and work where it almost got to the point where we felt it wasn't a reliable due the fact it stalls while on the road or even just turning and almost caused my sons life . Finally we found out it's the relay gets hot and it causes for the car to stop and i'm aware that ford knows about this very frustrating and disappointing they have not done a recall on this the relay can not be change by its self has to be the whole circuit board

We have had a down pour not long ago on saturday. The next day after using the expedition once when it was turned off the power locks repeatedly lock and unlock (we had to take the fuse out to get it to stop). There is a clicking noise in the fuse box/on the passenger side where the fuse box is located. When the locks function on their own with every click the dash lights faintly flicker. With the power locks fuse removed the dash lights still flicker making the gauges jump with every flicker. It eventually stops. I've read on many forums of these similar problems. But ford seems to turn the other way with these reported problems. I've called ford already and there is no recalls. On the forums with these similar and same issues it says it was diagnosed as a leak into the fuse box by bad manufacturing windshield sealant. Some vehicles seem to function on their own even at night and there had been some that burst into flames and the loss of the vehiclewas the result. This is the manufacturer's responsibility due to faulty put together and product causing electrical problems when water drips down into the fuse box. Please help us! we cannot afford the $1000's of dollars for this particular repair that is an ongoing issue for many other ford expedition and ford f-150 and ford taurus vehicles!!!

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.the contact stated that sporadically with the key in the ignition, the vehicle would start without being engaged. The air conditioner would also exhibit the same failure. In addition, the temperature gauge would fail intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was awaiting diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the defect.the dealer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 52,200.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle randomly stalled at any rate of speed. The vehicle was able to restart. Two dealers (downtown ford, 1-866-899-7296) and (future ford of sacramento, 916-547-2285) were unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: dp5005 (engine and engine cooling). There were nine tsbs for engine and engine cooling, two tsbs for the fuel system, and thirteen tsbs for the electrical system. Neither dealer provided diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted and taken to a dealer and an independent mechanic; however, the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. The contact mentioned that the alternator, battery, transmission, fuel pump, and fuel bypass switch were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving approximately 60 mph, the traction control system, abs and air bag warning indicators illuminated spontaneously. In addition, the headlights became dimmer. The contact was able to continue driving with caution to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing where they detected two trouble codes related to the wiring harness and computer system. There was a technical service bulletin under nhtsa item number 10009329 (electrical system). The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,700.

The gas gauge never works and sometimes the vehicle thinks that it doesnt have gas when it does.

My vehicle, without any warning at any speed, including highway speeds, shuts off completely, without any warning or indication that it is about to do this. Always on a straight road with almost a full tank of gas. The cause a relay switch which is soldiered into the memory board that controls the vehicle's brain box that shorts out. After doing research on the internet, i am both shocked and disgusted that the nhsta has not investigated this faulty design by ford and made them recall all of the 2003- 2008 expeditions. You only have to pull it up on you-tube or google to see the 1000's upon 1000s of complaints from expedition owners concerning this constant and dangerous problem, which clearly endangers every expedition owner and their family. The worst part of this, the ford dealerships want you to spend $1000 of dollars needlessly to try and diagnose this same, old problem, before they finally deal with replacing the entire fuse block panel, just for the relay switch, which is the cause, the shorting out relay switch. The internet shows again and again, that this problem is so rampant, that it isn't if it happens, but when, because it was a faulty and defective design, which endangers all expedition owners made these years. The faulty fuse block's fuel pump relay switch burns out and between that and the thin wires grounding out under the hood, drivers, unsuspectingly are left in panic modes on the highway, scrambling to get out of harms way, as a result of your vehicle turning off at all speeds, ie, 70 mph. Imagine a semi is behind you and you don't have the safe means of escaping the dangerous predicament you are now left in to get over to the side of the road? a recall is needed asap before too many people are needlessly killed as a result. Expedition's are family vehicle's and usually have lots of children in them! this is too dangerous to keep overlooking.

[29 day's new] 2004 ford expedition 4x4 eddie b.- i started the car and attempted to back up out of a parking space. I noticed the steering was stiff and the brake pedal was heavy. I then noticed all the warning lights were on. The car had rolled back out of an inclined parking spot, so i tried to put the car in drive and place it back in its previous spot. I could put the vehicle in drive, but it wouldn't move forward; i cycled from park to drive a couple of times to be sure it was properly in drive. The engine was running fine the whole time this was happening. I turned the engine off, restarted it, and had the same results. This was a major malfunction, so i called the ford towing service. While waiting for the tow driver, i started the car again and the vehicle returned to a normal running state, with no warning lights etc. The dealer has had the car for almost a week and can not recreate the problem or produce any fault codes.

Driving my 2004 ford expedition down the highway when we herd a load pop coming from the engine, pulled over thought it was a blown head gasket. Pulled of the highway and looked at it again turns out that the engine spit out the spark plug and shredded the rubber boot on the coil pack. This a pears to be a safety issue , if it went any farther up it could have hit and ruptured the fuel rail and ignited.the good thing is that i have engine knowledge and knew to disconnect the coil pack and the injector for that cylinder. I was 56 miles away from home and putted back home. Drop it of at the dealer tonight will wait to here from them tomorrow.

2004 ford expedition shuts down with out warning at highway speed!!

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.the contact stated that the radio light has been illuminating intermittently for the past year.currently, it has turned completely off and the odometer light illuminates intermittently every other day.the contact stated that during the entire winter season, when she would close the two passenger doors, they would pop back open.since the weather has warmed up, the doors are closing and staying closed more often.she also stated that the check engine light illuminates and was told that this was due to the fuel injection.the vin and engine size were unknown.the current mileage is 113,000 and failure mileage was 70,000.

I have been havingaproblem with my new expedition everyoncein awhile it does not want to start on the first try,it drags like something is wrong with the battery.ihave taken it to ford 3 times and they have not found anything wrong at all withthe electrical system nor my battery.i have not had my truck not even 4 months now.it is brand new and it is frustrating when you getin your truck and it acts like it does not want to start, and no one can find the problem.i need something or someone to find out the prblem because when i take it to the dealer it does not do it, andit happened three times this week.i am frustrated and aboutto go under the lemon law if not handled in the next couple weeks.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.while driving approximately 55 mph, the engine lost power.the wiring harness was replaced; however, the failure continued a week later.on january 21, 2008, the dealer confirmed that one of the harnesses was defective and caused the engine to lose power.the dealer also confirmed that the failure was not related to a previous crash that occurred.the manufacturer in the corporate division stated that the contact would be required to pay $2,700 to replace the harness, but later adjusted the price to $780.the contact's claim number with the manufacturer was 1386151017.the contact does not feel that he should have to replace a defective part at his own expense.he asked if the part was defective, but no one has given him a response.the contact attempted to drive at reduced speeds to prevent the engine from shutting off while driving approximately 35 mph.when he attempted to drive 55 mph, the engine lost power.the contact was aware of the safety risk involved and was requesting specifics regarding his year, make, model vehicle and 4.6l engine.the dealer information was unavailable.the approximate current mileage was 66,000 and approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

While the vehicle was parked it caught on fire under hood. Consumer called the fire and police departments.the fire was extinguished, andthere were no injuries.vehicle was towed todealer for inspection.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle would restart erratically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 187,000. The vin was not available.

The consumer experienced a problem with the fuse box located under the dash keep which always shorted out. Intermittently, electrical sparks and insulation burning was noticed while driving. The dealer was notified.

My advance trac light was intermittently on, now it is on constant, the vehicle even shifts into 4x4 when it is not needed (dry roads).

My 2004 ford expedition has had a problem since we bought it from the dealer.the advancetrac will engage on dry surfaces and smooth roads. It will happen anytime of year when the road is dry and should have no reason for turning on.i almost crashed october 31 2007, the abs turned on and i could not steer, i slowly came to a stop in on the wrong side of the road. It was hard to stop while the abs was still engaged the whole time.i then turned off the advancetrac and i drove right to the dealer and told them to fix it.i have taken this car in many times to phil long fordthey could never get the car to engage for them.it has happened more than i ever want to count. They have replaced a couple of different things but it still has this problem.thank you for your time!!

I have a 2004 ford expedition which randomly shuts off while driving. This has been happening with more frequency. I have taken the vehicle to two mechanics who tested and attempted to diagnose however they were not able to replicate the problem. Upon reading and researching online, there have been multiple posts about this being a common problem with the ford expedition line. I contacted ford and explained of this major safety concern and they only advised that the vehicle has no recall and they collected my information to provide to nhtsa. My son uses this vehicle for school and the vehicle has a safety concern which can not be diagnosed by certified mechanics and ford has taken is not taken anyresponsibility or attempted to rectify. I hope someone does not have to die due to this gross negligence, especially my son.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine did not get fuel from the fuel pump. The technician recommended that the fuse panel be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 169,900.

I was driving down the interstate when i heard a pop from the engine compartment & smelled gas fumes.a spark plug (passenger side, 3rd plug back) had ejected and ruined the coil.i took it to a local auto service center & they immediately knew what had happened as they have worked on several of the ford 4.6l v8's with the same condition.checked for recalls & found nothing.this could have set the engine compartment on fire.this is a problem that has to be fixed.

My ford expedition engine races while driving but more importantly when stopped at traffic signal the expedition engine raises and if foot isn't forcefully planted on brake at all times it lunges could cause accident by rear ending any vehicle stopped in front of me or property damage to other vehicle an to my own. It further has a hickup like not getting fuel properly.the expedition has been well maintained and two weeks ago had a complete tuneup(my thinking that might be what is causing the problem) not the case it has continued to do the racing engine and lunges. Recently my sister with a new ford explorer had a car accident caused by the same symptoms of my own expedition.the damage to my expedition in the event of an acident would be to repair or replace the frontend of my vehicle.

While slowly braking to a stop behind traffic stopped for a red light, the engine suddenly accelerated with my right foot still on the brake pedal.i pressed harder on the brake and when i realized the engine was still revving (at over 3,000 rpm), i put the transmission into neutral and noticed the engine speed erratically bouncing up and down in roughly the 2500 to 3500 rpm range.i still had my right foot firmly pressed on the brake pedal.i finally shut the ignition off and put the transmission into park.i waited a a few seconds and restarted the engine.this entire time i never lifted my right foot off the brake pedal.the engine started and idled at a normal 600 rpm or so.i carefully put it into drive so i could get out of traffic.at each subsequent stop, i would put the transmission into neutral just in case of another incident.i promptly drove straight home which fortunately was only 2 miles away.i checked the floor mat to see if the accelerator pedal could have gotten stuck but there was plenty of clearance. The floor mat is anchored to the floor so doesn't move.this is the first time something like this has happened to this or any other vehicle i've owned or driven.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning and warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanicwhere the issue could not be duplicated; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. While driving in the city on local streets, the engine just stops with no ability to drive.i am an instant safety problem on the road.this happened 3 times in one day.fortunately, no one was injured.after a few minutes, the car starts up again.my mechanic can't duplicate the problem.anyone help before there is a major life-threatening accident!!thanks!

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact was driving 80 mph when the check service warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle then stalled. The vehicle was safely merged from the highway and restarted. The failure became a constant recurrence and the vehicle was towed because it could not be restarted. The vehicle was not taken for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the incident. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 189000.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power without warning and the steering wheel became difficult to steer on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be replicated. The throttle was replaced however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 216,000. The vin was not available.

Spark plug blew out of block:out of nowhere, my spark plug blew out of the block on my 2004 ford expedition. My car drove perfectly fine coming home from work. I parked it in the driveway and a short time later went out, started it to leave and it popped and had a low rumbling sound and a burning smell. Threads possibly stripped.

The contact owned a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that her vehicle was parked and smoke emitted from under the hood. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle randomly stalled at any rate of speed. The vehicle was able to restart.

Without warning and while driving, engine just quits, loss of power steering, brakes and traffic, very dangerous.second time....problem not found.

The first incident with my ford while driving at about 25mph the spark plug was blown out.ihad the spark plug issue repaired.my second issue with my ford now is that it shuts off while driving at speed.it has happen 4 times now. I have read some blogs that state it might be the bad placement of fuel pump driver module or fuel pump relay.this may cause a crash.please research!!!!

While driving on a 3 lane highway where the speed limit is 65, i began my transition to the right lane to exit. We were traveling approximately 60mph.as i began to change lanes the vehicle noticeabley began to accelerate.at first i thought the cruise control had been activated, but when j attempted to stop, the car kept trying to accelerate.as i entered the exit ramp the car did not slow down the way it should have and the brakes did not feel sure.as i was able to come to a safe roll, i placed the car i to neutral at which time the car accelerated violently. I felt for the gas pedal which seemed to to depressed as if the cruise control was on. However, i was stopped. The engine did finally slow to within normal rpm. I was somewhat convinced that something may have been stuck, but soon realized that the gas pedal is hinged from above and not into the floor, nor was there anything on the floor.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, a popping noise emitted from the front passenger's side of the vehicle. The driver exited the vehicle and noticed smoke near the front passenger's side tire area. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames. The fire department extinguished the flames and informed the contact that the fire originated from the engine compartment. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

I was pulling off from a stop sign and before i got across the intersection my car make a pop and then the engine sounded like it blew. I pulled over and a spark plug popped out of the head causing a small fire that melted hoses. Estimated damage is a minimum of 1500 for just this plug but i was told the others would follow suit. Reading on the internet this seems to be a serious issue with the ford 5.4 triton motors. If i was not able to stay calm and steer my vehicle correctly this could have resulted in a serious accident. The vehicle lost power as if it had stalled, and as i stated before there was a small fire when i lifted the hood to see what had happened.

Our 2004 ford expedition eddie bauer suddenly turns off while we are driving at any speed.in a year's time, it has turned off four or more times.most of those times, we were traveling at speeds of about 60mph. All of the power shuts off, steering and brakes included.we turn the key off and it does restart.luckily we have not been in any terrible accidents!

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated the failure occurred sporadically. The rear a/c actuator began making a thumping noise and the rear a/c now only works when it wants to and also the heat in the rear. If you turn on the a/c sometimes heat will come out of the vents and if you turn on the heat, sometimes a/c will come out of the vents.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, he smelled a burning odor and noticed smoke emitting from the hood area. Upon inspecting underneath the hood, the contact observed an excessive amount of smoke which originated from the engine oil reservoir. There were no flames. The contact allowed the engine to cool for a period of four hours before operating the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the anti-lock brake module would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired; however the anti-lock brake sensor was disconnected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,238.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.the contact stated that the number three spark plug blew out of the head gasket. The spark plug ripped the treads in the slot where the spark plug was located. The contact spoke with the dealer and was told that the failure was a common issue. The manufacturer was also contacted but stated that since the vehicle was no longer under warranty, the vehicle would not be repaired at their expense.the failure and the current mileages were 107,000.

While driving down the road, taking my son to school, i had a spark plug blow out. Immediately had to stop the vehicle and my son wasn't able to attend school because i had no ride.i have been reading online and this is an ongoing problem with ford and am furious that nothing has been done to remedy this problem for ford owners.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact was informed by a neighbor that her vehicle was on fire. The fire department was called to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not destroyed nor was it taken for inspection or repairs. The cause of the fire was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 195,000.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition eddie bauer edition. The contact was driving 45 mph when the engine fail safe warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired and the vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were 74,000.

A popping noise from the engine and the smell of gas while driving 25mph in town. I took it to the mechanic and he said it was a spark plug ejection from the engine & would cost $1200+ to repair.

3 weeks after 60,000 mile check up, my wife turn the vehicle on and it made a loud pop noise then engine started vibrating abnormally and making a loud putt-putt noise. She drove the vehicle home approximately 1/4 mile and it smelled like it was burning. My mechanic said, it blew out the #5 spark plug, and that this is a very common problem on a ford triton engine.

Intermittently when the vehicle was put into drive, it stalled. Also, air bag warning and tire pressure lightscame on.dealership provided no assistance.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. After starting the vehicle, the contact noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine. Moments later the contact noticed that the vehicle had began to vibrate abnormally. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The current and failure mileages were 26,000.

While driving at any speedsteering vibrates violently.dealer states the steering rodmalfunctioned. All 4 wheels were balanced, however steering wheel is still vibrating and noisy.blue smoke from exhaust.no problem found.all windows slow to go down and squeaks.no problem found.abnormal starting.engine fan noisy. Dealer found normal operation.clanking noise in steering column.lower steering shaft was replaced.

Spark plug ejected from engine

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.the contact stated that there was inadequate sealant on the front windshield.in rainy conditions, water would leak into the vehicle.in addition, when the windshield wiper unit was activated, the windshield cleaner would also leak into the vehicle.the contact could hear a crackling sound coming from the dashboard.all the digital components on the instrument panel became inoperable due to the leak in the front windshield.the dealer stated that the windshield could be resealed at the cost of less than $100.if the windshield needed to be replaced, it would cost over $200.there were no recalls for the failure.on a separate occasion, the engine started on its own.the vin was unable to be accepted by the system.the current and failure mileages were less than 97,000. Updated 04-20-09 updated 04/24/09.

I have a ford expedition 2004 on which i have had to replace the rear air conditioning unit actuator 3 timesseems like this is a faulty designthe repair show claims they replace manyr car a/c unitsegular basis more so than most other of these actuators on a r.

2004 ford expedition. Since delivery day the truck has a rough idle in any gear once the temperature gauge reaches the mid point between c and h. The truck has been returned to three different dealershi[s for this problem. Two have changed different coil packs and spark plugs. One of them changed oil saying it displayed too much oil. The third dealership, which the truck was taken to twice said this was a charateristic of the 2004 4.6 engine. The truck now has 6,000 miles ane the rough idle continues after it warms up. No of these dealers have checked for a bad cooling sensor, bad head gasket, clogged or defective radiator or constricted cooling system.

Starting vehicle spark plug broke loose, damaging threads for spark plug and breaking coil pack. This is the second time this has occured. First time the vehicle was at freeway speeds and blew the spark plug out into the engine compartment. The spark plugs had never been changed before the first incident. In order to fix the problem the spark plug hole will have be repaired before a new plug can be put in.

2003 ford f250 and 2004 ford expedition. Consumer states right rear spark plug blew out of the cylinder head. This happened on both vehicles *tgwthe consumer was informed an adapter was made as a temporary fix. About 500miles later, the same problem happened again. The consumer took the vehicle to a repair shop where the mechanic stated the heads or engine would need to be replaced at a cost of $3000-$4000.

Engine hood insulator material began to smolder and smoke.needed to remove before vehicle caught fire.burned two fingers.

My vehicle's engine has failed. The dealer will not honor the warranty claiming i didn't change the oil, they have no record of me coming in for maintenance, i change my own oil and brought receipts in. This was not good enough. They have had my vehicle for 18 weeks with no rental. I have contacted the company the bbb a news channel in my area and i also work for ford which makes it even worse that they are denying my claim.

On two separate occasions, while driving my 2004 ford expedition, a spark plug has been ejected from the engine.one time, at city speeds, a second time at 65 miles per hour.both times, there was an instant loss of power and the smell of gasoline filled the passenger compartment.after the original failure, i took it to an auto mechanic who replaced the spark plug and installed a replacement coil on plug assembly.i have not yet repaired the second incident as it occurred last night.it seems to me that this is a very dangerous condition that initially didn't seem that significant, but after the tow truck operator said, that he thought there was a recall, it prompted me to research further.his tow service operates in the harrisburg, pa area and he claimed that he sees this happen nearly 1-2x/week with ford 5.4l v8 engines.he said, that he's "seen so many of them, that they've got to have a recall.

Gas mileage 6 mpg city and 11 mpg highway. Power windows make a loud scratching sound when operated.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.while parked three sparks plugs/enginemisfired.the failure caused $1700.00 worth of damage. The vehicle was towed to the ford dealer and all of the wires under the cylinder head were repaired.the failure mileage was 119,680.

2004 ford expedition. Since i took delivery, the vehicle has a rough idle in any gear once the vehicle has been brought up to operating temperature (approximately 15 minutes). The truck has been returned to original dealership twicefor this problem. The original "solution" was stated that due to the change in gas types from summer to winter the difference in oxygen in the fuel was causing the problem.i was told to drive it using a mid-grade gas for approximately 30 days and if the problem was still present return it to the dealer.the vehicle now has about 5,900 miles on it and the rough idle continues after it warms up. The vehicle is only getting about 10.6 mpg which is significantly less than mfg stated and less than the 1997 4.6l expedition i previously owned.i returned the vehicle to the dealer approximately 30 days from the original visit complaining of the same rough idle problem and reduced mileage.on the second visit the dealer said all "electronic" checks were in spec and there was nothing "wrong" with the vehicle. Said they would have to turn it over to ford engineer. We are waiting to hear from ford.the car idles rough and the mileage is poor.still no resolution to original problem.

My 2004 ford expedition's motor possibly needs to be replaced. I have only 38,000 miles on it. I was blamed saying i didn't change the oil saying they didn't have me on record coming to dealer to have it done. I changed my own oil and could only furnish a few receipts. The dealer and the inspector blamed each other for the denial saying there was sludge in the oil pan which was the cause. They have had my suv for 17 weeks given me no rental and it was taken apart and is not drivable and they want to charge me for it. They also won't put it back together without charging me so i can take it somewhere else. I also am an employee of ford motor at the norfolk assembly plant where thef-150 is built and was told it didn't matter that i worked for ford.

We own a 2004 ford expedition.on june 29th my wife and two children were driving the truck home when a spark plug blew out of the head.she drove the truck to me at work not knowing what really happened.there was a plug attached to the coil bouncing against the block near a hole spitting gas an gas vapor.i'm not sure what situation is needed to order a recall but it looked to me like one unlucky bounce and an engine fire would breakout.i have since looked this matter up and found multiple people with the same problem.at the very least ford should be responsible to inform their buyers that this is a possibility.i had no previous knowledge of this being a problem or i would have put anti-seize on the plugs which could have stopped the problem.in a time when toyota had to cause accidents and death to get something done maybe we could be a little more proactive on this one.

Consumer will describe the problem related with the exhaust intake manifold. Dealer and manufacturer has been notified. The leaf and twig litter would collect on the skid plate when driven off of the road.this was in close proximity to hot pipes which caused smoldering and a fire hazard. *sc

-the contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that whenever she turned the rear air conditioning unit on, she could hear a loud banging noise from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed this was a known failure. The contact also mentioned she experienced the same failure a few years ago and the vehicle had the rear blend door actuator replaced at an authorized dealership. The failure and current mileages were approximately 134,000. Updated 10/20/10updated 10/22/10

Rear a/c actuator suddenly failed with no warning.abs light came on and dealership said that an animal chewed through the wires to the abs computer, which was odd because i live in the city of los angeles where thiswas unheard off. Cost me $688 and the abs light remained on. I don't even have proof that they did anything.transmission stopped shifting into overdrive. Dealership said that the abs computer needs to be replaced. Cost me $450. Abs light went off, but transmission still doesn't shift into overdrive. Dealership now says that my overdrive band is worn. They quoted me $3,300 to fix.i have also had 3 break jobs which cost $600 a piece performed in less than 3 years. Which i never had this problem with any vehicle i' ever owned.this truck is only 3 years old and has had atremendous amount of expensive problems.

Dt*: the contact stated while performing general maintenance on the vehicle, the dealer determined the wheels did not have the adequate torque and needed to be tightened.the contact referred to the owner's manual which showed a suggested torque weight of 114 pounds, but the dealer insisted the torque should be 150 pounds.the manufacturer was alerted who informed the contact there was a nhtsa technical service bulletin #10008157, which provided the appropriate torque weight specifications.updated 12/01/06.

Dt*: the contact stated a piece of tire rubber lying in the road punctured a hole in the fuel tank.the plastic fuel tank was located underneath the driver's side front and rear passenger seat.there was no cover to protect debris from hitting the tank.the dealership was notified.the plastic tank hangs below the frame about 3 to 4 inches. Updated 08/25/06.

2004 ford expedition shuts down randomly on highway at speeds of 50- 70 mph.first time feb 2011, numerous times since.have managed to get to shoulder of highway each time.no lights come on the dash until the key is turned off.each time the key can be turned back on and the vehicle starts.it may then run 1 or two miles and shut down again or it may go a week or more before shutting down.last week it shut down 4 times in 12 miles.on the return trip, it did not shut down at all.the vehicle has been in the shop off and on for 6 weeks, they can find no problem, there are no diagnostic codes.we at first thought it was a fuel pump problem, but fuel pump pressure is perfect.i now think it may be the fail-safe that is shutting the engine down.this is very dangerous when the car shuts down on the interstate hwys in houston.i am now afraid to drive the car.ford motor co should fix this problem, their dealer shops don't have a clue about what to do because the problem does not show up on their equipment.help!

The vehicle shuts off while driving (at any speed) and often without warning.in addition, the vehicle may also not start at all then start without explanation. The most common recommendation is to replace the fuel relay. To do so, you must replace the smart junction box/fuel relay panel.this appears to be a common problem with numerous mentions and is often difficult to diagnose and commonly becomes a process of elimination.the biggest concern is the safety issue and odds of accident or fatality. Diagnoses typically requires complete failure because the symptoms can rarely be duplicated.this has happened frequently with complete failure happening.hardwiring the fuel pump rules that out.fuel relay is found to be hot to the touch.

Multiple and intermittent engine stoppage.the engine stalls suddenly while driving in traffic causing hazard to self and others. Sudden loss of power steering makes control of vehicle difficult as power steeringis non functional as you attempt to pull to the side of a busy road. Braking systems also are mostly non functional without the vacuum created by the running engine making it very difficult to stop quickly. This presents a dire emergency condition for the surprised driver, and a hazard to other occupants as well as other drivers nearby.a driver who is small in stature may be unable to man-handle the stiff steering condition.once stopped, the engine may restart right away or not, stranding occupants in unsafe conditions and cause an accident chain involving life and death.fuel pump relay failure is the cause and very common, (100s of thousands of posts online about this problem).this problem affects these expedition vehicles in a widespread fashion similar to the lcm safety issue with another ford product, the crown victoria.(a recall was ordered on this issue for some of the model years)this has happened to me 8 times in 3 weeks since owning this 2004 vehicle.it is currently at the ford dealer who state they may need to keep the vehicle for up to 3 weeks to observe the failure mode.(it is intermittent)

Was drivingwhenbrakes went completely out when i went to stop at a stop sign. . cause due torust corrosion . Brakes giving out could have caused a fatal car accident . Rust has damaged all brake lines and fuel lines . Rust is now moving up the vehicle.brake lines and fuel lines should have a protected coating or made with a non corrosion metal. I had no idea that my brake line was rusted out till my brakes gave out.these vehicle need to be recalled and have new lines. Also have a protected coating applied under the vehicle to stop rust. Very very dangerous driving around not knowing that you have rust under your vehicle eating away at your brake lines and fuel lines.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled and shut off. Later, after restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump relay circuit board had malfunctioned and burnt out. The circuit board was replaced and the failure was remedied. An unknown local dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 180,000.

While driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after waiting several minutes. The vehicle was taken to cowles parkway ford (located at 13779 noblewood plaza, woodbridge, va 22193, (703) 986-5500) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred a day later. After further research, the contact became aware that the fuel pump relay needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 188,000.

The vehicle has been shutting down randomly (highway, streets, stops, etc) and it is very much a safety situation at high speed on the freeway since the steering wheel locks up and brakes do not work.i've taken it to two different places for diagnosis including the local ford dealership and they have not been able to diagnose the problem. It is understood the vehicle is 10-11 years old but the inability for the dealership to diagnose the problem is really frustrating. From reading complaints, there are others that sound similar and appears to be associated with the vehicle's fuse relay box.

Was driving my suv and was coming close to my turn off let off the gas and my vehicle cut off had to steer to side of the road. Had fuel pump replaced was driving the next day after pump was replaced stopped still and the vehicle started shaking and cut off. It started up about ten minutes later. The next time was riding down the road going 55 and my suv just shut down i veered it to the side of the road was able to start it tried to head home vehicle shut down a good 5 miles and was able to start again after waiting this happened again 4 more times in the same nite before my vehicle didn't start anymore that was march 31,2014 it left me stranded on the side of the road with my three children. Eleven days later my vehicle is still not starting and diagnostic test is not showing anything wrong!

4 separate times my 2004 expedition has died while running down the road, one time it died in a very dangerous spot (blind s-curve with no shoulder). It always seems to restart after it has cooled down after a while. This last time we tried multiple things to get it running because it was stuck at a busy intersection and it was over 100 degrees outside, but nothing we did helped. I ended up getting it towed to a shop who told us it needed a new fuel pump ($1100). We decided to take it home, and thank goodness we did. After charging the battery it started right up. We have research this problem and it seems to happen to many expeditions and ford pickups. It looks like this has caused many people a lot of money and has left them stranded many times. From our research it is probably the fuel pump relay (r303) or the fuel pump driver module (if it has one). Unfortunately our exp. Has the relay instead of the module making it harder to replace. I would like to know why their hasn't been a recall on the relay or module!!! i am very thankful my children weren't with me when i was left stranded with the temp above 100 degrees out. Something needs to get done before someone gets hurt!

The gas gauge never works and sometimes the vehicle thinks that it doesnt have gas when it does.

Humming coming from bottom of vehicle (rear axle).knock is also heard when coming to stop in same area (rear axle).dealer replaced gears and components may 2005.got vehicle back but knock was louder, found out that needed the correct shims to prevent problem.waited for parts for 3-4 weeks.dealer said ford will not replace the entire axle only replace components.ford service log shows "repair rear axle as per tsb 050618".but problem still present.waiting on parts again.as of october 10, 2005, have had dealer try to fixed problem three (3) times.now my park brake does not work, dealer said need to get parts in to fix both problems (axle and brake) at same time.but i will take back to dealer to fix park brake even if axle parts are not available.

Chatter when wheel turned at low speed. Low speed turning , shaking and vibration.

Unknown, transmition left me stranded on busy highway. Managed to get it moved off the road before being hit. After getting it home and not driving for a period of time it can be started and moved with no issue. Drive to town no problem parked it to take care of some business and when i went to leave i couldn't back out of the parking place. Got it home and let it sit again. Needed to move it out of the way all was good started it and moved it across the yard and backed it in no problem. Had k&o auto look at it and was told it needs a transmission. I see allot of complaints about this issue from others without ford being held responsible to correct the problem.nice vehical said i can't afford to get it fixed, now driving a 500.00 used vehicle to get around, it is an eye sore but gets me around ok. Would rather enjoy the expidition if ford would fix the issue that 1000's have had.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While the vehicle was parked, it rolled down an incline and struck a boulder at the end of the driveway. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 208,000.

I noticed that my suv was starting to ride a little rough. A month later it started to ride a whole lot rougher. I saw that my tires on the front end were wearing on the inside tread. Then the whole front end started to shake while driving. I took it to a gateway and they to ld me that it was my two front lower ball joints on the suv were bad and needed replacing. I don't understand why the truck was riding so smooth and all of a sudden the lower ball joints go bad.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated the transmission would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred and the transmission had to be replaced a second time. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,465.

I dropped my kids off at school then headed for work taking the freeway. Traffic began to build so i had slowed down to about 20 miles per hour (mpr), when i tried to accelerate the vehicle would only reach 30 miles per hour.i was in the far right lane so i took the next exit off the freeway. I put it in park then tried to drive again but it still would not go pass 30 mpr or go in reverse so i called road side assistance and had it towed to the nearest dealership.there was no noise or any indication that something was wrong.luckily i wasnt trying to change lanes when the transmission went out, i would have gotten hit. The service manager told me that the sun gear had broken.

When coming off a ramp and merging into oncoming traffic theaccelerator became stuck. The driver had to slam on the brakes and place the transmission into neutral.at 1,470 miles while pulling into the driveway the truck suddenly stopped accelerating and would only go in reverse.the automatic transmission piston had disintegrated.*sc

Shutter/grinding noise coming from rear axle.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.the contact stated that the vehicle would not move when shifted into reverse. The mechanic stated that the transmission failed.as of january 10, 2008, the mechanic had not repaired the vehicle.the current and failure mileages were 88,594.updated 3/4/08

While down shifting gears there was a loud clung coming from transmission. Consumer took vehicle to dealer to be serviced. After picking upthe vehicle consumer experienced the same problem. He then called dealer and asked what was wrong, and was told that the transmission fluid was low. Hetook vehicle back, and then was notified that there was a tsb for the transmission.

- the contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.while parkingthevehicle the gear shift sheared off from the steering column.no excessive force was applied to the gear shift while attempting to shift from reverse position to park.the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and they informed him of therepair cost.the contact stated that therewas a defect in the gear shift. The contact stated that the dealer indicatedthat the steering column neededto be replaced.

Dt:2004 ford expedition - the gear shift indicator doesnot shift whenput into gear.it has been doing this off and on for the past three months.took the vehicle to the dealer to have it looked at and made anthe appointment to have itrepaired, the gear shift indicator was not in the proper gear when the consumerbroughtvehicle back for the appointment, it was working properly. Therefore, it was not repaired at that time. Currently,it is happened again.it has been in the wrong gear for about two weeks.the vehicle is still under warranty. The gear shift indicatorfailedat least 100 times.

When the vehicle is placed in "park", the gear shift position lever will move to the "p" position, but the gear shift position indicator stops at "n" or "r".the car will turn off and the keys can be removed as normal.this has happened many times over the past two months.the vehicle is at the dealer now for the second attempt at repairing this situation.

July 25, 2005 my 2004 ford expedition automatic transmission lever failed.it will not move past the "reverse" setting, yet it will go into park.the transmission functions properly as far as i know.i am to take into dealership tommorrow.my mileage is about 13,500.

After parking the vehicle in the lot at work consumer proceeded to exit the vehicle when the driver's side door knocked her down as the vehicle rolled backwards.consumer got up, entered the vehicle, placed both hands on the brakes to stop the vehicle, then placed the vehicle into park before it struck anything.no injuries were sustained by the consumer.the vehicle was placed into park prior to it rolling back.

The contact owns a 2004 expedition. While driving 25 mph the torsion bar snapped under the vehicle and then the rear axle pulled the drive shaft from the transmission. The vehicle was towed to a auto repair shop. The dealer nor the manufacturer havebeen contacted. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 104,000.

Dt: while driving onthe road at30-40 mphthe front wheel wobbled back and forth. Before being ableto pull to the side of the road the left wheel cameoff the car.the axlewas bend very badly.no one was hurt, but the axlehad to be replaced. The dealer refused to do it without charging the consumer an excessive price.

Vehicle experienced a leak in the rear axle seals. This problem was recognized by the dealer and the vehicle had been in the repair shop for the last 8 weeks. However, the problem had not been remedied. Owner contacted the manufacturer, and was told that there was not enough evidence for them to takeaction andrepair the vehicle.

2004 expedition xlt 2wd.trying to find out more about (technical service bulletin) dealing with the rear end/differential problem.i also mentioned that just recently there is a gurgling sound coming from the exhaust.sounds like it wants to backfire or like there is water in the system.i was told by the art hill dealership that has to do with the differential and that they can not fix the exhaust until i get the differential fixed.every other dealership i talk to gives me the run around and say it's my problem. We've had mustangs in the past and this is our second expedition.we've always loved fords up until now!!! there is a known problem with the 03-05 expeditions rear end/differential but it seems to be ignored.i was told it was the tires at first so i replace them, then i was told it would go away.well it hasn't and then i was told it would cost 1,727.00 to fix!!!!this is an outrage!!!we were thinking of purchasing a 2007 model but the service that we have been receiving lately.....we may try another brand.please help we want to stay with ford..

The vehicle was involved in a major front-end accident which the driver suffered a significant injury and was ejected from the vehicle. The airbags failed to deploy, and the seatbelt latch neglected to keep the driver from being ejected from the vehicle. The driver lost control of the vehicle on a city street and collided with a power pole and then a signal pole. Upon head-on collision with the signal pole, the vehicle came to a stop but the airbags never deployed and the seat belt latch failed to keep the driver in the vehicle. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered major injury.

While driving approximately 50 mph on june 23, 2010, a vehicle failed to yield the right of way and crashed into the left side of the contacts front end of the vehicle. The drivers frontal air bag failed to deploy, and the seat belt failed to restrain the driver; however, the passenger frontal air bag deployed. The contact sustained injuries to the chest and back. A passenger in the other vehicle was also injured. The insurance company confirmed that the vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was towed to an auction lot. The memphis police report number was 10457802. The manufacturer also filed report 0503361760. The failure andcurrent mileages were 220,000.

Seat belt not working.

I own a 2004 ford expedition xlt, the vehicle has had the locking mechanism in the seat-belts fail 2 different times on two different seats.the first was the front passenger in the first quarter of 2006.the second time is this month september of 2006 and it is the right passenger on the second row seat.both times i have taken the vehicle back to the car dealership to have the mechanism replaced.there are 8 seat belts in total since 2 have already failed i am concerned about their effectiveness.

Driver and passenger seats broke off at the base when the vehicle was rear ended causing injuries to driver and passenger..enclosed pictures of broken seat.

Today, i got in the car and sat down. The seat sunk down unexpectedly by about 3 inches. When i got out of the car it pops back up. It sinks so low i am having trouble seeing over dash.this is too dangerous!

Dt:consumer states the 3rd row seat became so hot, itburned her daughter'sleg . The manufacturer referred her to the dealer and the dealer said there was nothing wrong with the car.

Vehice had water in the back seat. There was water leakingfrom the top of the ceiling down to the seat. This wasdangerous considering that the dvd player was near where the water was leaking.

I was driving up to a traffic light, in my 2004 expedition. Coming to a stop. A good thing, i was not driving to fast, or had to make a sudden stop quickly. There was not a vehicle in front of me ,thanks to god! had my foot on the brakes, and the pedal went down to the floorboard. Now i have no brakes at all. The indicated lights, for brake fluidcame on. So, i stop to refill brake fluid. There, i notice a busted brake line. I have only seeing this in the movies, i have been driving for 30 now. I could have lost my life, or taken someone else life. After looking online. I have seeing, others with some of the same problem, with the 2004 expedition. But there no recalls, and i know ford motor have heardof this, and others too, that is the place to do something for the safety of the people(small). But nothing is being done!

Experienced a near complete brake failure due to sudden loss of brake fluid.i was able to make it home as the incident occurred on an interstate within a mile of my residence.cavalier ford at chesapeake sq. Had just done "the works" package oil change just 2 hours earlier and reported that brake lines were checked and everything was "green."i had the vehicle towed back to cavalier ford and the service manager reported to me that my brake line was rusted through near the front axle.the vehicle has been kept and maintained in chesapeake, va and i am the original owner.the service desk was very surprised because there is little road salt conditions in this area during winter.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While independently performing routine service on the vehicle, the contact noticed that the brake line was corroded. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 107,000.

Brake line failure due to rust. Cars previously had dual hydraulic systems. If one failed, the other still worked. That is no longer true. It's all one hydraulic system and if a leak occurs, there is no secondary system; only the emergency brake is available to stop the vehicle.and now, in new cars, the emergency brake has switched to electric. Previously you could gradually apply the manual emergency brake to slow down after a hydraulic failure, but no more.i have now had 2 rust induced brake line failures in my 2004 ford expedition, and thankfully, a working emergency brake was able to stop the vehicle before a major accident occurred.new cars no longer have this same luxury of an emergency brake. They have only the electric parking brake - no graduated controls, no manual intervention. And the new auto braking systems are great to prevent rear end collisions, but only when the hydraulic pressure is working.you need to consider bringing back the dual hydraulic system and the manual (gradually) emergency brake.

On sunday, 3/14/2004, i was driving my 2004 ford expedition on dry pavement when the vehicle began to shake with acceleration (15-20 mph).i checked to be sure there were no flat tires and proceeded. Once the vehicle was up to 45-50 mph i attempted to brake and the vehicle's brakes did not properly respond.the brake pedal began to vibrate and shake but the vehicle did not slow down.i applied the brakes harder and the vehicle came to a slow stop.once the vehicle stopped a warning buzzer sounded and the vehicles message center stated "check advtrac".the advtrac feature disabled and i was able to drive the vehicle home safely.the next day, (today 3/15/04), i drove the vehicle to the ford dealership without event.the dealership had no idea what the problem was but stated they would contact ford and let me know.this event took place on a clear paved dry flat road.fortunately, there were no other cars in my path of travel.had there been, a collision would have occurred due to the failure of the braking system.the vehicle has 2014 miles and the vin is [xxx].the vehicle was being operated in the "2high" mode.this is a serious system failure related directly to the advtrac system. Update 07/30/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

While driving 45 mph brakes failed. Driver pressed the brake pedal, which pulsated and went down to the floor.somehow vehicle stopped without incident.after the vehicle stopped engine check warning indicator illuminated.the dealer was not sure how to repair this problem.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact was coming to a stop and depressed the brake pedal when the vehicle would not stop or slow down. The contact crashed into a pole and a gas meter before the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire and a fire report was filed. No one was injured yet the vehicle was destroyed. The origin of the fire was unknown. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that they will send a representative out to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 98,835.

Excessive accumulation of brake dust was found on the aluminum wheels. There' istsb 10004901 on this issue, andthe manufacturer has a kit that the consumer can purchase for $230.00 plus installation. The kit is not guaranteed to correct the problem, but it will reduce the dust accumulation, per the dealership.

We were involved in an accident.our 2004 ford expedition seamed to fail to respond to slamming on the brakes to avoid collision.we rear ended a car, no one hurt.no air bag deployment at all.#0-35 mph speed.hit car in front of us after he stopped in road for no reason. Major damage to our truck.should have been fender bender.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when the vehicle began to vibrate while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for repairs. The technician turned the rotors and replaced the brake pads. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on a second occasion for the identical failure. The dealer advised the contact that the front rotors needed to be replaced and the rear rotors needed to be resurfaced. The manufacturer was notified which stated that the failure was caused by normal wear and tear. The failure mileage was 10,000. The current mileage was 28,000.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact was driving 40 mph and changing gears when he attempted to apply the brakes but there was no response. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle and crashed into a pile of snow in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who referred him back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 86,000. Updated 9/13/11

During emergency stop it was noted that the brake pedal went to the floor. Suv had less then 8k miles on it. Dealer turned the disks and replaced pads and bled brake system. Brakes still go to the floor and now have brake shudder at 13k miles.

On three occasions the brakes on my 04 expeditionfailed. Twice was when towing a 5000 lb. Trailer, and i assumed the problem was connected with that. But the other day when not towing i almost clobbered the car ahead of me when i had to make a hard stop. On the three occasions the pedal goes almost to the floor with little (but some) braking effect. The ford garage cannot find anything wrong.

On 6/22, the right wheel bearing assembly failed while traveling ~20 mph.as a result, a fire occurred.i put the fire out in our driveway at home with a water hose.significant damage occurred to the right wheel assembly, bearing housing, 1/e axle, rotor, caliper, brake pads, emergency brake, etc...luckily, wereclose to home and were not traveling 70 mph.no other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries as my wife and i were able to get all of our children out of the expedition safely.our expedition is a 2004.

Air bag/brakes failed.2004 ford expedition.at 28500 miles brakes and rotor was replaced along with the clutches in the reartwo weeks later this accident.noise was still heard in the rear after the repair.car was totaled.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.the contact stated that while exiting a parking space and applying the brakes, the brake was depressed into the floorboard abnormally.the contact drove the vehicle to a local mechanic and notice brake fluid leaking.the mechanic advised that the radiator supporter was rusted and also caused the brake lines to rust.the mechanic replaced the radiator support unit and the brake line.the contact called the manufacturer regarding the faulty brake lines and the manufacturer stated there was nothing they could do to assist.the failure mileage was 73,000.

Brakes have failed to work properly on several occasions.three (3)times when i backed up out of my driveway...brakes completely failed...i almost hit the trees across street in my neighbor's yard. I pumped the brakes vigorously when i realized they weren't working.don't know how i escaped an accident.it happened again when i tried to back up one night when i was away from home in north carolina.i realized the truck was not going to stop - so i threw the gear shift up into forward drive...barely escaped hitting a gas meter on a house..this would have been a horrible accident.there were 5 people in the truck and 2 people in the bedroom of the house i almost hit.this brake failure on the 2004 expedition is a really bad problem.you drive the truck at your own risk.it is an accident - just waiting to happen again.dealer innorth carolina had no clue as to what was happening.the local dealer has no clue....they only say if it reoccurs while the truck is in their possesion, they might be able to discover what is happening.is this a potentially dangerous vehicle?what does ford moter company say about it???does anyone know?

I purchased a new 2004 ford expeditionthe front brakes give off huge amounts of brake dustin 100 miles the rims are solid black.i feel this is a safety issue and may result in brake failure.

On 9/16/06 at approximately. 64,500 miles on odometer without any similar problem, i started car at los angeles international airport parking lot #3 with foot on brake.brake pedal went to all the way the floor as engine started and escaping air type sound heard.pumped pedal and each time it depressed less and less until full brake pedal returned.drove and applied brake numerous times without incident until reaching intersection of sepulveda blvd. And west slauson avenue (3.34 miles: per map quest).entered left turn lane applying brake to stop for red light.at approximately 20 mph brake pedal went to floorboard again.could not stop and vehicle proceeded through signal.fortunately oncoming traffic was stopped or there would have been an accident.pumped pedal several times as vehicle coasted forward and full break pedal returned. Problem hasn't recurred since.took vehicle to vista ford, woodland hills.service tech could not duplicate problem. (i have seen nine similar complaints on this nhtsa site... All referencing the problem as intermittent and all reflecting the ford dealers service dept. Could not duplicate and could not determine source of problem).this needs to be investigated before someone is seriously injured!!!

Dt:the caller's vehiclehad brake failure 3 times. Twice in driveway and once whthe ile driving at 30 mph.brake pedal wentall the way to the floor.the caller's wife hit the brakes and they would not work and vehicle hit a mailbox before she could gain control of the vehicle. Dealer said they couldn't find the cause of theproblem. Manufacturer said unless they could duplicate the problem they couldn't help him.

While driving my 2004 ford expedition at ~65 mph the car in front of me slowed abruptly.upon pressing the brake pedal, the pedal fell to the floor and the brakes failed to slow the vehicle.iswerved to avoid hitting other vehicle. I removed my foot from the brake and then pressed the brake again and the brake began to operate normally once again.car currently at the dealer although cause has not been found.1 week prior i had the brakes inspected due a concern where the brake pedal would slowly fall to floor while adding and removing pressure from the pedal (without completely removing pressure) in 5-10 mph downhill stop and go traffic.dealer had told me that the entire brake system had been inspected and that the brakes were fine.

While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor and a loud buzzing sound was heard from front. Both feet were on the brake pedal, andvehicle continued to accelerate.consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.mechanic placed the vehicle on the diagnostic machine.however, mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

While driving brakes failed. The pedal went to the floor.consumer lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road. Thishappened twice. The second time an accident occurred.

While driving consumer applied thebrakes andpedal went to the floor.this causedbrakes to lock, andconsumer was unable to unlock them.then, vehicle collided into a brick wall.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

My letter to paoli fordto: paoli ford3/18/06attn. General managerre: 2004 e.b. Expedition purchased 3/04problems:door rattles, brake failureno ford product to date has required as many service calls as this 2004 expedition.the door rattles have never been totally fixed after7 attempts.i believe that there is a design flaw in the advance trac system that has caused a brake failure on two occasions. I do not intent to wait around for a third time. Last summer, i was traveling at approximately 50 m.p.h. When approaching a light in heavy traffic. The brakes failed.the pedal pulsated as if i was on ice, but the pavement was perfectly dry.i avoided a massive rear end collision by taking evasive action, and driving over a berm.the brakes acted as if they had about 10 % of their stopping power.when i called the service department at paoli ford, they suggested i restart the vehicle and turn off the advanced trac button.this did restore the brakes. I dropped the truck offand they replaced some yaw sensor parts under warranty, and declared it safe to drive. This same brake failure has now happened again!the message center indicated 2 advtrac faults, but the service department says that the fault codes scrolled off the system by the time they were able to test it.they suggested that i drive it until the brakes fail again. I will not subject my family to the danger of this situation again!i do not intent to wait around for the next time the brakes fail.ford has designed their traction control system to remove braking power when there is a potential rollover. However, when there is a problem with the yaw sensor, it can remove the braking power while traveling straight on a dry road.ford has eliminated rollover lawsuits, but caused a brake failure in the process.

Huge amount of brake dust on front wheels happening in normal driving conditions .

Excessive black dust from brakes of new 2004 ford expedition.

1)front end shimmies when brakes are applied.2)creates a potentially unsafe driving condition, especially in snow or rain.3)replaced brakes, replaced rotors, had rotors turned...still an issue.

Massive brake dust accumulation.

Had noticed large amount of brake dust (1/8 in) on mainly front wheels of 2004 ford expedition e b-veh had less than 5000 miles- and brakes did not function as i believed should. Read your link re manufactured date being prior to december 03 that brakes would be replaced.took to ford dealer 12 13 04 and had replacement per service bulletin (dangerous situation)-have had 12 "concerns" to quote ford-a/c-rear end repaired-outside mirrors click motor replaced (still jumps)-window mech bad-tire pressure display-ford customer service advised on 12-15-05 "just continue to have repairs made"-no other option-have been to dealer with 12 "concerns" -kept veh 8 days one time-having to go back with same "concern" not being taken care of-this model is really a lemon-although ford is aware of the brake situation and tsb issued the consumer is not notified as per ford customer service -you have to wait til something happens (if you or family is still alive)-vin: [xxx].updated 07/24/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

My 2004 ford expedition is 31 days old and has excessive brake wear, which i consider a safety issue.the brake dust, in less than two thousand miles, is caked on the front wheels and extends the entire length of the running boards on each side.the amount of brake dust covering the wheels and running boards indicates excessive wear of the brake pads.i am greatly concerned that the brakes will fail prematurely.ford motor company does not consider this an issue.

Excessive front brake wear on 20004 ford expedition. Vehicle has 14,000 miles and front brakes are gone. Rotors cannot be turned due to excessive ware. Front inside calipher cannot and will not stay tight. They keep sliding causing heavy groove wear in the rotors and heavy front end shaking and wobble during stopping. The brakes often fade to the point where the emergency brake must be used for stopping. The ford dealer recommended replacing the pads and rotors but not with oem parts as that is what the problem is. I was urged to go to after market brake components. I did and there is no brake dust, fade, squeak or shake.

Noticed a vibration and pulsation whenever applying brakes. 2004 expedition with only 7k miles. Ford dealer noted the front rotors had "excessive run out" and were machined down. If the original rotors weren't strong enough to handle even 7000 miles then how is machining them thinner going to resolve the problem? i believe the rotors should have been replaced with stronger parts.

While driving at 35 mph front end started to shake: alsothe tires started to wobble severely when the brakes were applied.consumer took vehicle to the ford dealer, and the mechanic determined that the rotors were warped.mechanic turned the rotors instead of replacing them.*tc

Shaking in steering wheel when brakes are applied.took to dealer at 8k miles - dealer said front rotors are warped - they would only turn them.problem occurred again at 20k miles.dealer (same one) would not say what the problem was, only that heat causes them to warp - i requested new rotors but dealer only offered to turn the rotors again and warned me the rotors were so thin they could not be turned the next time.still no explanation of what is wrong with the brake system.heavy brake dust on front wheels

2004 ford expedition suv - steering wheel pulsates when brakes applied. Returned to dealer service dept and they regroung the front rotors - this occured @ 16500 miles and @ 25600 miles. Dealer advised that it is not a good design by ford motor company to large a vehicle for the size of brake rotor that they overheat and then warp ?? dealer advised i was applying the brakes too hard.

1)front end shimmies when brakes are applied.2)creates a potentially unsafe driving condition, especially in snow or rain.3)replaced brakes, replaced rotors, had rotors turned...still an issue.

While driving my ford 2004 expedition eddie bauser, the brake pedel will go all the way to the floor, & the braking system will failed to work, vehicle will not stop, this happens 4 time, & the dealer ( brandon ford ) & ford refuse to help us, the dealer after looking at the vehicle every time said nothing happens to the brake, we are afraid to drive the vehicle, for we might not be lucky the next time it happen, the last time it happen was on may 26, my wife was driving with the kids when it happen, she had to pull onto the side of the road in order to avoid hitting the cars in front of her which cause her to hit at road sign, which cause about $2100 in body repair cost, we need to file a complaint against brandon ford & ford motor company for not thinking about their customer safty & life & family. Thank you.

The rod that detaches to the back of the tirehadebroke offcausing my tire to stay out words on a city street

2004 ford expedition, eddie bauer edition, while driving on hwy at 65-70 mph, steering wheel locked, causing vehicle to enter another lane and bump another vehicle. Driver used all his might to unlock steering wheel, which then made a popping noise before releasing and car spun twice before landing in ditch.by the grace of god, there were no injuries.now we are afraid to drive the car, because we don't know if it will happen again.car has been driven for almost 1.5 years and has almost 42,000 miles.steering wheel sometimes gets locked while in park, but first time this has happened while driving.car is maintained on a regular basis and has never been in a prior accident.

While pulling out of a parking lot the steering locked without warning. As a result the vehicle collided into a pole. No injuries reported. Please provide additional information.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver as the advance trac stability enhancement system warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the advance trac failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 178,000.

While driving 70 mph steering wheel froze. No impact reported.

On a 2004 ford expedition, when making a hard right or left turn, steering wheel tends to stick in hard turn, such that it becomes dangerous as steering gets stuck and driver has to wrench wheel back to avoid causing an accident.ford dealer says that this is a anormal vehicle reaction. In my estimation this is dangerous and ford needs to recall 2003/2004 expeditions to fix problem withthe power steering.

Power steering seems towork harder than needed. In a parking lot maneuver one needs to use both hands to turn steering wheel. Local dealer says that there may be a problem with the proportional valve. Can cause accident if driver does not steer with both hands. Also returns to middle later than usual.*la

2002 ford expeditionwith 42,159miles.8/27/04vehicle taken into ford dealership for oil change , brake inspection and tire rotation. Service tech noted front tires a little chopped , rotation should take care of this.8/30/04called facility where ibuymytires and havemy vehicles alignment performed to ask if this could be a alignment issue. After visual inspectionofthe tire wear they felt that alignment was needed.9/2/04recieved a letter from ford containing updated inspected proccedures for the expedition and other ford vehicles titled tie-rod inspection procedure.9/3/04 vehicle taken in for front end alignment and was informed that it could not be aligned because of outer tie-rod end wear and these needed to be replaced.ford dealer didn't check for this even after seeing tire damage while rotating tires.when informed of the tie rod problem the ford dealership said repair would be out of pocket since vechile had over 42,000 miles.ihad both the inner and outer tie-rods replacedat my independent repair facility since the letter from ford implied that 15,000 miles was the about the life expectancy of the tie-rods they used. The tie-rods were replace with ones having grease fittings unlike ford's original factory equipment. I feel that this is a repair ford should cover for the life of the vehicle as long as they continue using parts which seem to have this shortened life expectancy and could result in injury to anyone using these vehicles.

While driving steering wheel started shaking uncontrollablyinside of the vehicle. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection.mechanic determinedthat rack and pinion steering and tires needed to be replaced.consumer informed mechanic that the problem recurred, and had not been resolved.

I noticed excessive steering wheel vibration between speeds of 70 m ph-75 mph. I bought this 2004 expedition brand new on 1/13/05 and noticed the problem the very next day. I took it back to dealer and i was told that the cause had to do with too much air pressure in the tires. They went ahead and set the tire pressure to 35psi. A week later, the problem came back and once more i took it back to the dealer and they said that it still had too much air pressure in the tires and that the wheels needed to be balanced. They set the tire pressure once more and balanced the wheels and they said that they couldn't duplicate the problem and that everything was fine. I still have this problem and it's very annoying driving with the steering wheel shaking. I contacted a different dealer and i was told that the problem is because these vehicles have a rack and pinion and that it's normal to feel a vibration on the wheel. At this time, ford does not have a solution and we the consumers have to wait until they figure out what the problem is and that we have to be patient and live with it for now. I think ford needs to do more testing on any new vehicles before they put them on the road. I believe they don't do enough testing and we have to put up with it until they have recalls. I really hope they come up with a solution fast, because my hands get tired of driving this thing after a while.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving water began pouring from the roof console .water entrance has caused corrosion and holes on the roof-top.the dealer was contactedand they stated that the vehicle was designed defectively. Since the warranty expired andthe failure occurred previously, they agreed to pay for half of the repair. Meanwhile the technician gave her a black caulk to fill in the holes. The temporary repair was not a remedy. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 48000.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that upon inspection, it was found that the sub frame was rusted. The contact also indicated that the radiator mounts detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 180,000.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger side rear frame rail section had rusted through and separated. The dealer also diagnosed that the wheel bearing and hub assembly needed to be replaced as well. The contact stated that the dealer stated that the vehicle was no longer road worthy due to rust of the frame and should not be driven. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000.

Bubbling paint on rear tail gate.clearly a paint preparation issue, otherwise paint on the rest of the car is near perfect.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. While driving in rainy weather conditions approximately 30 mph, the interior dome light began leaking a small amount of water. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they recommended the vehicle be taken to an auto collision center for inspection. The vehicle was taken to an auto collision center and the technician stated the roof of the vehicle would need to be replaced and also informed the contact that eventually, the water leakage would result in electrical issues. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

Frame was broken and rigged and painted unsafe and i am concerned when he puts my kids in the car it is not safe

Roof canel rust, had repaired it 4 times since 2007.ford is unwilling to take ownership of the defect and with each repair, the roof is weaker.spoke to two dealerships and this defect keeps them in business since this is all they do.

My truck has started making a very loud noise coming from the front under side of the vehicle. Upon further investigation we have discovered that there was excessive rust and corrosion on the frame. This has caused parts of the engine to shift and rub/ collide with other parts and cause the noises. Our mechanic and my husband both feel that the rust and corrosion have made the vehicle unsafe to drive. There is no way to tell when any part of the engine/vehicle could break free, possibly causing more damage and or an accident while driving. Our vehicle is very well maintained and the amount of rust and corrosion is excessive for the year and mileage on the vehicle. The lack of ability to tell when or where the framework may give out makes it unsafe in our opinion to drive. Especially with children in the vehicle most of the time. The corrosion is also so excessive we believe it is not repairable by any body shop. My frustration with this is that we had not planned on getting a new vehicle and were planning on driving it for quite awhile longer. Other then the rust and corrosion the vehicle is in fairly good condition.. I believe that the rust and corrosion sounds very similar to that described on the windstars and should be investigated along with the windstars problems. Finally there is also excessive bubbling of the paint in various locations of the vehicle.

The frame is rusting. See photos. The body is rusting away also the brake lines. The entire vehicle is rusting away. Why has this 2004 ford not included in a recall for rust.

Observed significant rust-through and deterioration of the body structure at the two front body to frame mounting points.metal structure supporting the air conditioning condenser coil has completely disintegrated and the coil has dropped approximately 1" from its designed position.metal structure supporting the radiator is almost completely disintegrated.surrounding metal supporting the body to frame sown significant deterioration and rust-through.concerned with safety and structural integrity of the body to frame connection and support of components.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The contact stated that there was corrosion on the rear liftgate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated there were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was also contacted who confirmed that there were no recalls and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 97,000.

1 own a 2004 ford expedition and the original paint is bubblingup on the tailgate around the license plate holder and door handle there have been hundreds of complaints and ford does not want to except responsibility.

Rusted out rocker panels, brake lines, front end radiator mounts, fender mounts. The entire under carriage is rusting away. We have had to replace all the brake lines as they have rusted away, redid the rocker panels rust away. Now we have to replace the entire front end because of rust. Will not pass pa state inspection due to rust. Is the expedition in the recall for rust?

Black plastic trim molding on doors of 2004 ford expedition are fading.all of them on the road of this vintage have the same defect.

The 2004 ford expedition is built too low to safely take off road.because of its lack of clearance ford installed skid plates to protect the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, etc.the skid plates collect leaf litter which accumulates right next to very hot components.this is a fire hazard.it is difficult to keep the skid plates litter free because of the many angles and tight spaces. The litter does not blow out once back on the highway.after a day of driving off road, i noticed tar-like material from smoldering leaf litter dripping from the skid plates.i had tried several times during the day to knock the litter out but it did no good.it should not be necessary for a driver to put their face under a vehiclenear very hot components, on a daily basis, in order to maintain a safe vehicle.*la

While driving vehicle made a loud popping noise andvibrated. Took vehicle to dealer for service three times, and dealer informed consumer that this was normal.

I bought ford expedition with airbags suspension and now it's broken likewise air compressor too was damages ,which i didn't know or any idea they sold me this suv, loaded with this airbags suspension, is it legal here in hawaii to sold cars or suv's loaded with airbags suspension ?

September 24, 2004, i was driving my 2004 ford expedition [xxx] in henderson, kentucky.i purchased the vehicle in july from d-patrick ford in evansville, indiana.i was heading east to pick up my son at approximately 2 pm. On highway 60.thankfully, i was in slow traffic and had stopped due to a turning vehicle in front of me, and was proceeding to go around this vehicle when the incident occurred.suddenly my steering wheel was jolted and it felt as though my passenger side front wheel had fallen out beneath me, and i was brought to a halt.upon getting out of my car, it looked as if the top half of the tire had fallen into the vehicle.the smell of burning rubber was apparent.a few minutes later, i would have been on us highway 41 with my son traveling 60 mph.the injuries and deaths that could have occurred to us and others on the roadway are very disturbing to me.the tow operator and then the service manager where the vehicle was first towed (closest dealership), demplewolf ford in henderson, informed us it was a defective ball joint.the vehicle was towed again to d-patrick ford in evansville, indiana, on saturday, september 25, in order to get the repair made and obtain a loaner vehicle.i know that this is a defect in the product and i want action to prevent others from getting hurt or killed.i was a lucky, but if there is one like mine, there are others.i am certain i would have rolled over due to this malfunction if i was traveling at a higher rate of speed.even at my low rate of speed, the steering wheel control was impacted and i felt in danger.i am concerned for my family and others safety. Have told the dealerships and written to the board of directors of ford motor company asking them to report this to your organization.i have heard from no one.i feel this is an important and urgent matter that needs to be investigated.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.the contact stated that the compressor had been failing ever since the vehicle was purchased.on may 11, 2008, while the vehicle was parked, the suspension dropped and the rear of the vehicle was resting on the rear tires.the suspension failed without warning.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or mechanic.the current and failure mileages were 72,153.

Intermittently when the vehicle was put into drive, it stalled. Also, air bag warning and tire pressure lightscame on.dealership provided no assistance.

Dt: the contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. The safety defect is the tire sensor. The contact states that the faulty sensor light is coming on. The service department turned the light off. The tire sensor light still comes back on while driving on the highway. This makes the third time the service light which says sensor tirekeeps coming on .no crasheswere involved .this makes 3 times that the sensor light has been turned off.

Vehicle stalls while driving in traffic, stops and will not start for 2-3 days. After 2-3 days vehicle starts back with no problem, but in a couple of days does the same thing all over again.

At 500 miles the new driver floorboard had a vibration and grinding noise when the wheel was turned while driving.the dealer kept my car for 2 days and changed out the differentals and packed it with a "fix" from ford.driving home from the dealer my car still experienced the same vibrations and grinding.the dealer advised me to drive it 1,000 miles and then return it if it still had turning and grinding. I returned my car to the dealer and have not received a satisfactory fix. I'm worried about a major malfunction happening.

My dash vents are not sending any a/c out the front vents, and i also feel heat from the floor board of my car along with exhaust emissions. I know that the san diego police had the same problem with their expeditions and they were recalled and repaired, now they changed to ford explorers . Is there anything still on the books for the expeditions? the vehicle can be in any function,it is just not working, and also i hear a tumpping noise in my right rear panel. I am unable to send any pictures because everything is covered.

Can not drive car power train and engine blew outdont drive drive far only in my city and up to maintence andall ofsudden girls stop shifting one day while on road very scary had to pull over in middlke ofintersection after tht\at day bought another transmission and same thing happened didnt last month spent so much money on transthat cannot afford new agin

The vehicle transmission was in the park position while waiting on a slow train.when engaging the transmission into the drive position, after the train had passed, the vehicle uncontrollably fully accelerated on it's own.to avoid a seriously collision with oncoming traffic, the driver turned the vehicle on to the railroad tracks where it came to a stop after damaging two wheels and high centering on the tracks.this is a very dangerous vehicle.

On 9-18-04 darrell baldwin, denice baldwin and devin theisen were in 2004 expedition sitting in driveway preparing to leave for a soccer game.darrell put the vehicle in drive with the brake firmly applied.the car involuntarily accelerated at high rate until the brakes quit and shot us into our other vehicle parked in the driveway.we veered right trying to miss the truck but was unsuccessful.the car continued across our yard heading toward our neighbors house across the street.during this time the brakes were unable to stop the car and the gear shift wouldn't go into neutral.the path left skid marks down our driveway, across the street and finally in the driveway of our neighbor.this was an extremely unsafe situation.usually there are children out playing and had this occurred when children were present it could have been a potentially fatal situation!there is a problem that needs to be researched.ford has taken possession of vehicle for investigation.

On three occasions starting 6/21/06, after putting the car into gear (forward twice, reverse once), the engine immediately raced and lurched, and an inordinate amount of pressure had to be applied to the brakes to try to control the car. There were three different drivers each time who will attest to this.the last occasion, my wife was backing into our driveway, stopped, put the care in 'park', and then, after a minute, into reverse again, where it immediately accelerated to a very high rate of speed, smashed into my son's van (totaling it), pushed the van another 15 feet over two trees, where she finally had control of the brake.we are very fortunate that no one was hurt, but i'm very concerned at ford's response.i took it to springfield ford, where i purchased the care, and was told that, after a thorough check they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle, and that they even talked to the ford 'hotline', and that the ford engineers had 'never heard' of a situation like this.i told the service rep that if he googled 'sudden acceleration' and 'ford' he might get an education.needless to say, i have appx $3-4,000 in damages to the expedition, and the van, a '99 windstar is beyond repair.i'm sure that by contacting the local dealer, i'll get nowhere, as it's very apparent they either don't believe me; don't care; or are covering up what truly is a serious issue.thank you for your time and consideration.

When driving in cold weather the vehicle continues to accelerate after you have released the accelerator. It doesn't matter whether you are using the cruise control or not.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition.while entering the drive-way, the vehicle lurched forward without pressing the accelerator pedal. He had to remove the key from the ignition to stop the vehicle.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership. The current and failure mileages were 90000.

Vehicle had a sudden unintended acceleration event which nearly resulted in an accident. This was a very nerve racking experience and i had difficulty stopping the vehicle (despite applying full brakes) as the rpm continued to increase to approx. 5000. On stopping the vehicle i managed to place it in neutral and the engine continued to rev excessively. I turned off the engine. Vehicle was brought to local ford dealership who confirmed a high rev problem with the electronic throttle control and recommended a "throttle body" replacement.

1998 ford expedition caught on fire while the vehicle was parked and the engine was cut off.*mrthe consumer believed his expedition suffered from the same defect in the cruise control deactivation switch as other vehicel's.

The contact owns a 2004 ford expedition. She smelled plastic burning in her garage; however, she observed flames coming from underneath the hood of her vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire and the vehicle is in her garage. The vehicle was destroyed and there were major damages to her residence. The dealer was not notified. Her insurance company stated that ford will be sending out an investigator to determine what caused the fire. There is an incident report from the fire department .there is a recall on ford vehicles for the cruise control switch but at this moment they don't know if that caused the fire to occur. The failure and current mileages were 79000.

The consumer was pulling out of a parking lot inlight rain, made a right turn and the vehicle surged forward and veered into the street.the consumer was standing on the brakes, but the vehicle continued to surge forward.the vehicle hit and scraped a parked vehicle, damaging the right side.the vehicle was finally brought to a stop and taken to the dealer, who examined the vehicleand could not find anything wrong with it.*sc

While the vehicle was parked and running it suddenly accelerated, causing it to collide with another vehicle. It was taken to the dealer for inspection, and problem was not resolved.

While on the beltway driving at 55 mph steering wheel started to vibrate.then, consumer saw smoke coming from under the hood.consumer pulled over , and the passenger opened the hood to find flames coming from under the hood. Assistance was provided by a state trooper.the fire department responded to contain the fire.consumer mentioned the cruise control was on earlier.thisvehicle was not included incruise controlnhtsa recall 05v017000.

While driving in cruise control mode at 65 mphthe cable stuck in open. Consumer was unable to disengage from this mode by depressing the brake pedal. Consumer had to put the vehicle in the neutral gear and turn the vehicle off. The cause of the cable sticking is yet to be determined.

On december 5, 2004, my family and i were driving south on interstate 5 near edmonds, washington.the cruise control motor of our 2004 ford eddie bauer expedition engaged on its own and malfunctioned in such a way as to open up the throttle on the car.we were sent at high speeds through traffic with no way to stop.braking the car, putting the car into neutral or lower gears, nothing worked.we narrowly avoided many collisions which could have resulted in serious injury or death to our family and others on the road that day.my husband is an excellent driver and remained calm.we made our way through traffic to the side of the road where he was able to slam on the emergency brake and turn the key off.all four brakes were billowing smoke.our local dealer has "fixed the problem" but i am compelled to warn other drivers of our difficulties.we have been unable to reach a representative from the ford motor company.i believe they know of this mechanical failure because they changed the cervo motor that controls the cruise control in their 2005 model.we have found other individuals on the internet that had the same near death experience.i hope ford does not wait for someone to die before they ask for a recall.please help me warn other drivers.thank you!

Cruise control stuck and the speed would accelerate and there was no way to turn off cruise control or slow down truck.
