My 2002 ford expedition's windshield wipers and audio system would not function in any position except park. I took the vehicle in on jan. 24 and was told that since the vehicle audio and wiper system functioned properly. I got a call later in the day saying that the vehicle's wipers and audio system displayed the malfucntion that i had described. I was also told that there was severe corrsion around some of the eletrical parts. The service tech suspected a leak but could not tell where the leak was coming from. The dealership replaced the corroded part for the amount of $1065.70 and released the car to me. On jan. 31, my husband noticed at 5:00 a.m as he was preparing for work that the audio system was blasing and the dash board was lit. He attempeted to start the car, but it wouldn't. He called the dealership at 8:00 a.m to report the problem. A towing company was contacted at this time. At approximately 12 noon, my husband attemted to start the car again. This time it started and my husband drove the vehicle to the dealership. The "service engine" light remained on, and the vehicle drove "rough". On arrival at the dealership, a small fire started under the hood of the vehicle. The starter had burned (according to the service tech). The starter was replaced on feb. 6. The service manager then reported that a leak was detected, and he suspected that it was coming from the top of the windshield (we told them that we replaced the windshield in july because of a small whole from a rock in the road). We paid an additional $335 for the replacement of the starter. We carried the vehicle back to the glass delearship and had them run a "wet" test with my husband as a witness. Water did not enter the vehicle through the windshield. As an extra precaution we had extra sealant placed around the windshield. Upon further investigation, i learned that the wipers may have a malfunction that causes water to enter the dash after rain or snow. Both occurances started after rain.

1. When it rains my 2002 ford expedition has water coming inside ofit on the driver side. Consequently causing my gem and fuse box to have to be replaced. I took it to the dealer and replaced the gem and resealed my windshield. The next day after receiving my vehicle back from the dealer it rained again and had to take it back for the same symptom. They dried out the module and made sure the windshield was sealed good but until this day rain still comes in. I also replaced the door seal and took the luggage rack off and put sealant under it and it still gets water in my vehicle.

2 - electrical problemsthe first problem resulted in about$800 worth of repairs - a wire underneath the dash grounded itself on the frame of the automobile.this showed itself by blowing several fuses as well a shutting down the ability to put the car in gear once started.it took several weeks to realize the exact problem.replacing fuses helped, but blow several days later.many options such as the power windows, radio, rear wipers, running board lights, interior lights, etc. Would not work.the second instance is even more alarming - the speed control deactivation switch caught fire while in the garage. My wife was at home at the time.she needed something out of the car.when she opened the door to the garage she noticed that the garage was full of smoke.she called 911.the fire department got the car out and extinguished the fire.... We were lucky.

Dt:the vehicle will take off by itself without pressure being put on the accelerator pedal.the steering was pulling to the left. Also, the door locks will lock by themselves.the vehicle ran out of fuel several times while the fuel gauge showed there was still fuel.when turning on either of the turn signals the windshield wipers come on.the red battery cable was hot.the remote controlled rearview mirrors actedas if there was a crossing of the wires.when pressing the button for one directionvehicle went the other way.consumer believed that the problem was the computer /electrical system.the dealership could not find the cause of the problem.the consumercontacted the manufacturer, and they told him to take vehicle to a dealer.

My car started just fine but it would not shift out of park and none of the windows worked. I checked the fuses and one was blown. I replaced the fuse and my car appeared to be working normally. I got within a half a block from my house and smoke started coming out from under the hood. I pulled into my driveway and immediately shut my car off. Smoke was pouring out from under the hood. I opened the hood and the cruise control depression switch was glowing red hot. Within a few seconds it burst into flames.

My neighbor's 2002 ford expedition caught their house on fire.my home caught on fire due the the size of the fire.both home suffered extensive damage as a result of the fire.

While driving to work, heard "pop" under dashboard (fuse panel) and radio went off. Replacement fuse blew immediately upon replacement. Removed radio and replacement fuse immediately blew again. Suspected ground in power circuit to factory stereo, verified with test light. Shorted circuit, 797 in this vehicle, is hot at all times (not switched through ignition). Subsequent investigation by owner shows that main wiring harness behind dashboard was not correctly installed when the vehicle was assembled at factory. The mounting points installed in the harness were never installed in the corresponding holes in the body, allowing the harness to sag approximately 2 inches below its correct position (and presumably rub against metal parts behind the dashboard). Due to the faulty factory installation, the harness can not be raised far enough to be properly installed without removing at least part of the dashboard and passenger side airbag (dealer says entire dashboard must be removed, a significant cost item). Dealer mechanic has viewed harness and agrees harness was not correctly installed. Subject harness also contains wiring for airbags, instrument panel, transmission control, rear lighting, trailer controls; basically every circuit in the vehicle which is controlled from or has indication in the dashboard. Owner is still troubleshooting and attempting to repair.

My 2002 ford expedition has suffered numerous electrical problems.i received a letter from ford the recall about the cruise control switch no operating properly, my cruise control went out a while back i did not think any thing of it till my truck would start up but would not come out of park, and when i tried to change the fuses they were popping as i changed them out.will ford replace all damaged items due to the cruise control switch. My actuator switch blew out and numerous problems are going on with my vehicle now due to these electrical errors.

Vehicle unexpectedly caught on fire while it was parked. Manufacturer was contacted by owner, and was aware of the problem.

About two weeks before my car wouldn't go into drive i had it towed to the dealers. They fixed the problem it was a brake switch and solenoid. That needed replacing $300.00 later its fixed. During the weekend my cruise control light kept flashing. My mother, daughter and i were waiting for my son who was at track practice on monday 4-25-2011. We were waiting in the car and listening to the radio. I started my car to make sure it was going to start.as i started itwas full of smoke so i open the hood and there was a little spark fire. I look into my car to find water and i returned to attend to the problem and it was in full flame. I called the fire department to report fire. The parking lot was full of parents and children also waiting for there children.there's serious fire damage under the hood wires and sensors. I have taken pictures as proof. Oil spills from the reservoir.thank god we were there to stop it from loosing the vehicle and our lives.i wanted to find out information for myself. What i need to do? is this fords fault for not informing me that there's been thousand of cases of mine. I bought my car less than a year ago. I was never notified of any recalls or faulty wiring let alone car fires???my kids and i don't know if it's drivable. I haven't drove it since.i am going to ford dealership tomorrow 4-29-11.

We had problems with radio power windows and car going into gear and water leaking from the windshield checked fuse it was bad we are still having water leaking into the car (alot) and its causing us to have electrial problems and transmission problems i have been advised that ford issued a statement about the faulty leaking windshield and it causing electrical problems but they have yet to issue a recall i have saw many people complaining of the same things happening to there 2002 expedition this happens every time it rains or snows.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate from a traffic stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The contact was unaware of the repairs specific necessary but stated that there was a failure with the fuse box. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 194,793.

My 2002 ford expedition have ejected the spark plug twice each time it have cost me $ 1300.00 because the head had to be removed and refiled for the spark plug to fit back.

My 2002 ford expedition spontaneously caught fire on september 12, 2005 while it was parked in front of my home (with the keys out, doors locked, windows up, etc.) a neighbor's lawn servicer saw the fire and rang our doorbell to alert us. I called 911, but by the time the fire department got there, the entire front end of the truck had literally melted away in the fire. The hood, front glass, front tires, front panel, etc. Were completely destroyed and the truck is a total loss. The fire burned and destroyed a large patch of grass and blackened the pavement in front of my home. Thankfully, no one was injured.

On december 21st 2012 i left to drop my daughter at daycare... We got into the vehicle and i found i was unable to get my vehicle out of "park" and had to put it in neutral and start it (also found that the windows and wipers weren't operating at all either) ... My daughter stated "mommy, i smell something burning" and my assumption was the fuse had blown... I drove a few blocks and dropped her off and then stopped a block away at the local convenient store and upon exiting the store came out and found flames pouring out of my driver side wheel/ hood area.the 7-11 employee had a fire extinguisher and was able to put out the fire and i was informed and shown by the cary fire department where the fire had started and that there was a recall for that part in which i'm the fourth owner of. It took three weeks to get a reply from their general counsel department and in my eyes this needs to be expedited as i'm paying for a rental car that i can't afford... I'm not impressed by lack of urgency as i have no vehicle to get to and from work which is how i provide for me and my child.

My 2002 ford expedition developed an engine fire while parked and unattended.

Electrical problems from windshield leak.thought it was moonroof drains, had them checked & cleaned at dealer. Still leaking. Keep hearing electrical clicking noises from under dash and somewhere in backseat whenever it rains.driver's seat heater no longer working, rear heat/ac blowers intermittently not working.

2002 expedition eddie bauer editionit's been having electrical issues for awhile, and just recently the alternator had to be replaced.since then the lovely electrical issues have snowballed.driving down the road, my locks start locking and unlocking themselves.then the warning lights start going off (airbag, theft device, abs, battery). Then it starts to shake and i press the gas pedal, and nothing happen except it rolls forward slowly, like i'm idling through the light.i made it to the 7-11 parking lot just before it died. I've got no idea what is wrong, only that i'm either the owner of a very large paperweight, or my truck is possessed.

I was driving on a highway and proceeded to pass another car in the middle of my pass my car threw a spark plug and coil out of its head. My car immediately loss power and my car began to shake. At this moment a 18 wheeler headed towards me and my son . This was a very serious situation.that could very easily have been deadly. Since then it has happened several times at least 10 timesevery time this happens they have rethread plugs and put new coil in car very costly and time consuming.

The consumers vehicle experienced symptoms of a recall related to a courtesy light or lights that might overheat.the consumers vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.*nlm

On 10/30/07 at 12:30am a 2002 ford expedition caught fire on my car lot and burned one other vehicle to the ground. The expedition was just delivered to us from the auto auction the day prior. It was parked, locked, windows up, keys out of the vehicle.it currently has the open recall 05s28 on it and had not yet been performed. The entire front hood, grill, engine compartment, brake master cylinder, and electrical components where burned to the point of non-existence or melted matter. I contacted ford motor company and they advised me to contact my insurance company.

5 amp fuse popped. Replaced with another 5 amp fuse. Shift lock solenoid attached to brake master cylinder caught fire. Fire was contained and controlled. Minimal damages. Unsure of vehicle drivability. Could have happened during transit. Condition unsafe.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that the gear lever failed to shift out of the park position. In addition, the four power windows and door locks became inoperable. The contact replaced the 5 amp fuses on forty different occasions however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

On the evening of july 7th, 2015 at approximately 10:45 p.m. We heard a commotion outside our apartment complex and discovered my '02 expedition fully on fire and being doused by the local fire department. It had just come back from repairs that afternoon - to the pigtail switch and re-wiring in the steering column due to loss of turn signals and radio. Not only was my car destroyed, but the cars on either side were damaged, as well as damage to the apartment complex. We retained an attorney and our initial report from the fire department stated the cause as "faulty wiring." the private fire investigator we retained has advised our attorney that the fire is due to the flawed cruise control system that has been the cause of hundreds of other fires in ford vehicles. We intend to pursue this matter legally and would sincerely appreciate any assistance or advise your office can provide.

Cruse control not working and no horn

Vehicle was parked.overnight, vehicle engine compartment caught fire and entire vehicle became engulfed in flames.total loss of vehicle.

Dt: neighbor was leaving for the store and smelled smoke. Saw fire and knocked on the door and toldconsumerthat the truck was on fire.called 911, and emptied two fire extinguishers trying to put out the fire.the fire department stated that the fire was started from an electrical source. Also, notified consumer of three other cases just within houston.

While driving 10 mph consume heard a knocking noise coming from under the hood.dealership informed the consumer of the blown spark plug. The problem was not resolved.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.the vehicle was parked and a neighbor notified thecontacxtthatvehicle was on fire.the fire fighters and police departments were called.the hood burned off the vehicle.the paint on the driver's side burned off the vehicle, the driver's side windshieldwas missing, and the interiorwas completely destroyed.the driveway wasalso damaged, and a treeburned.a police report wasfiled.ford stated that there was nothing that they could do.however, he gave them hisvinand never received a call to confirm if this vehicle was affected by the recall nhtsa recall number: 06e056000). The failure and current mileage were75,000.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. While driving approximately 40 mph the contact heard a very loud sound from underneath the hood of the vehicle.the sound was derived from a spark plug that was ejected from the cylinder head.the failure caused the contact to swerve across two lanes of trafficand drive into someone's yard.the vehicle shut off, and was towed to a mechanic.the mechanic confirmed that the ejected spark plug was indeed the cause of failure.the current mileage is 72,502,and the failure mileage was unknown.

Car started without any problems in the morning but it did not shift any gear, car was towed to the mechanic and taken to the mechanic. While the mechanic was checking the vehicle the car caught on fire, the engine and the whole front of vehicle caught on fire.

2002 ford expedition exploded in garage resulting in a total loss of the vehicle and home.

Dt: the contact owned a 2002 ford expedition and on friday a spark plug blew out the side of the engine through the right cylinder head and caused the vehicle to lose power.

Cruise control and hornfailed.the dealer stated the cruise control cable wire overheated and fused together in the harness.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. While starting the vehicle, an abnormal noise was heard from the engine. In addition, the vehicle stuttered without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the plug and ignition coil were replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted eight months later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with the same failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

Dt:the consumer owns a 2002 ford expedition. The spark plug blew threw the cylinder to the engine.the entire engine will have to be replaced.ford acts like they have no clue about this problem. Consumer has seen several complaints on various websites. The car was at a dead stop at a red light, when consumer heard a pop that came from the spark plug.

On 7/3/2007 i heard a loud banging sound and smelled gas coming from under my engine.when i had it towed to sioux falls ford, they said a spark plug had blown out.when i asked if that was a factory defect, i was told that the plug may have been put in incorrectly.i have never had the spark plugs replaced, so i knew it was a factory plug, but the technician said that they had no way of knowing that.i spent $800 to have the it re-thread.4 weeks later, a different spark plug did the same thing.at that time, they told me that they would check all of the spark plugs to ensure that they were tight.4 weeks after that, the ignition coil needed to be replaced in that plug and the plug needed to be replaced.they claimed that their repairs had not caused this, but i feel like i have been getting the run-around on all of this simply because i am a woman.

Consumer stated that the dealer replaced the computer module because there was some kind of malfunction with the factory installed one.

Dealer said the ingnition switch sticking between start and run was the cause of many problems but the safety issue is that the vehicle suddenly lurched when at a stop. Engine raced and much pressure was required on the brake to restop vehicle. If there had been a stopped vehicle in front of me - i would have struck it.

2002 ford expedition had an under hood fire that ignited in the wire bank near wiper motor. *** no answer required*** the consumer was told the fire had nothing to do with the recall notice that he received.the consumer was told the problem appeared to be in the wiring and not the bulbs or fuses.thecomplained that the directional light was not working. The consumer was then told the multi-function switch needed to be replaced.

After parking vehicle in garage, smelled burning rubber and called 911.was able to roll vehicle out of garage and fire dept put out fire under hood.vehicle was totaled.

A fuse blew & the windows wouldn't go up. When i replaced it smoke started pouring out from under the hood of my ford expedition 2002, eddie bower which was parked in my garage. I took out the fuse & tried to back the expedition out of the garage but i couldn't take it out of park. I put the fuse back in & flew out of the garage smoke again coming out from under the hood. I took out the fuse & open the hood. The smoke was coming from a senor on the master cylinder. I sprayed the fire extinguisher on it and unplugged it. I put it in the shop & they change the cruise control brake switch. The same part was recalled on my f150 xlt 2000 pick-up. My cruise control & horn won't work now & the shop doesn't know what is wrong to fix but i can put the fuse in & the windows go up & down, & we can drive it. The shop said that when this part goes out it lets a charge feed back to the ground side & can cause fires. It is the same part as was recalled on my pick-up!

I currently own a 2002 ford expedition. A recall was performed (at an authorized ford dealer) to correct an issue with the cruise control switch possibly overheating and causing a vehicle fire. On december 30th 2005, my expedition became engulfed in flames while parked. The vehicle was a total loss.

I am the owner of a 2002 ford expedition, eddie bauer edition with less than 60,000 miles.for nearly a year dome lights and windows continue to malfunction after replacing fuses many times.mechanicindicated that there could possibly be an electrical problems, which will be costly to repair.has there been a recall for this problem.

Complete fire distructin of veh.fire appears to have started under dash in wiring harness and spread to engine compartment as well as interior of unit.forensic analysis indicates above.forensic report available on request.fire started while unit parked in garage and damaged dwelling as well.

Every time it rains hard my vehicle won't start and if it does the wipers and radio will not operate when i put in reverse or drive.i took it to the dealership and they told me that it was the right side windshield seal.i asked them if this was a manufacture defect and they said no that it was the shifting of the glass when i run over bumps.the same thing was happening to a f-250 p/u when i took my vehicle in.they told me that they would have to replace the fuse box, gear module, rear wiper motor.i don't believe bumps would cause this to happen and from the sound of it, it appears to have been happening for a good while because they told me at the service department that there was mold in the gear module.i am afraid that if it rains and i am on the road that my truck might just turn off or my wipers might short out.the estimated cost for all repairs is about $1000.00.

The vehicle was driven earlier that day for about 2 to 3 miles and then it was parked inside a private mobile home park.after 30 to 45 minutes had passed, an explosion was heard outside the mobile home park; the vehicle exploded and was on fire.the explosion occurred in the hood and now it is a total loss.this occurred on april 18th, 2016. We contacted the national highway traffic safety administration and they informed us that a recall back in 2005 was issued.the ford motor company has not helped us out in this accident.

#3 coil damaged, spark plug blew out. Had to have a new coil, new spark plug, and rethread #3 hole. Very upsetting that ford knows of this issues and refuses to do a recall and pay for the repairs!

As i was merging onto the freeway, i heard a loud bang followed by a motorcycle sound out of my engine my check engine light came on, upon taking it to the shop and paying $94.50 just to look at it,ilearned that my spark plug and coil box had exploded out......the repair place told me this is a on going problem with fords and charged me $400 to fix it... This should be a recall??????

Just want to add my car to the list of ford expedition 5.6l engines that have experienced the spark plug ejection issue. Thankfully, this occured when starting the vehicle, so it did not cause any accident or injury. This is our son's car and we intended it to be the vehicle our 15 year old used as well. However, now that we know about the spark plug problem, we no longer feel it's safe and hope to trade it in. It's extremely disappointing and disheartening to know that ford has not taken responsibility for this issue. Our vehicle had all original factory-installed spark plugs.

Driving to amusement park 1 1/2 hours from my house #2 spark plug blew out of engine. Had to stop and have vehicle towed to nearest ford dealer. Spent 644.66 dollars to repair, and notified ford motor company of problem. This is a common occurrence to this engine type and ford knows about it and does nothing to fix it.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that smoke emitted from the driver's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the engine and the timing belt. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to respond to deceleration attempts and that it caught on fire while it was parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Two spark plugs blew out of the head.pain in the butt to fix.ford needs to stand behind its name and fix the known problem.

While driving 35 mph i heard a loud pop and then what sounded like a belt smacking around the engine. I opened the hood and saw the belt was ok. Went to dealer and had to get loaner to get home. Spark plug had popped out.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. While the vehicle was parked in a residential driveway, the engine compartment erupted into flames without warning and a loud explosion sound emitted from the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was completely burned and part of the garage was damaged. The police and fire departments filed reports. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 180,000.

1:00 am, started engine to go home from work.loud bang, fumes, sound like something is caught in the fan.investigation revealed spark plug blown out of engine, hanging by the lead. Made it home driving at 30 mph.it appears ford has known about this for some time. To say i am disappointed in them is the understatement of the year.vehicle has been meticulously maintained.

I have replace the drive belt 2 times this month. The belt keep messing up now i have get another belt because it is twisted around the tensioner. I don't know hiw it happen i drive all that day.

Spark plug popped out my iginition coil and the threading section is stripped. When i started my car an exploration sound occurred. Also, my driver side head light won't stay lite even with replacement light unit. Also car stalls when car is facing down a hill, even with a full tank of gas.

Sitting in a parking lot sounded like something hit my car . Engine started running very bad . For the 2 time a spark plug had blown out of the engine. Waiting on a tow truck again.

I was driving my truck, when it started to make a crazy noise coming from the engine. I had to pull over and pop the hood and i noticed that my plug on right side head, had blew out.i was on the side of the road and ended up having it towed because i didn't want to drive it in the condition that it was in.i understand most will say this is not a safety issue, however, when this happens in the middle of traffic or going down the interstate, it could very well be a big safety issue. This is a very common issue that i feel ford should be held responsible for.

This is about a blown out spark plug.the blown out spark plug (#4 on passenger side)) happened when my family & i were traveling in highway near stockton ca at around 5 pm. There was no shop open and i had to call aaa to tow the 2002 ford expedition to our friend's house about 30 miles away. It was also a very cold night and we waited for about 1 hr for the tow truck to arrive. It was incredibly inconvenient for this incident to happen on the freeway/highway. I heard that this is a common problem for the older expedition with triton engine. I love ford trucks/suvs and i hope they can fix this problem with the engine before somebody gets in serious trouble.i would rather want to see a recall than a class action suit in the future.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that while the vehicle caught on fire while parked. The contact called the fire department to extinguish the flames. The fire department advised that the fire started under the hood on the driver's side. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the fire and the manufacturer advised that they would send someone to further inspect the failure however, the manufacturer failed to send a representative. The vehicle was destroyed due to the fire. The failure mileage was 110,000.

Spark plug shot from engine.has 112500 miles on suv.was ice and snow on back road 30 miles from home at 14 degrees.sounded like engine blowing up.then load ping sound in motor and lack of power.engine shut off on idle.was stuck.have not serviced yet.ford needs to fix this issue immediately.this 5.4 l triton should run for longer than 110,000 miles.my old dodge would not and did not have any issue and it had 130,000 miles when it was wrecked.

Idling at a metered ramp i experienced unintended acceleration while in line waiting for my turn at the metered light.the car in front of me rolled forward and i following suit. I did not touch the accelerator but merely released my foot from the brake pedal. The truck surged forward unexpectedly. I was able to apply the brakes before impacting the car in front of me. As i sternly applied the brakes the engine settled down and all systems worked as expected for the remainder of my commute. 5/23/2016 approx. 7:25 am cdt. Sunny and clear weather approx 63 degrees f. "normal" humidity. My daughter is the primary driver of this vehicle and when asked if this has happened to her the answer to my surprise was yes.

I went to get an oil change i was told by worker at shop that everything under hood was rusty and chances are that this truck was in the new orleans flood (katrina) it was down hill from then. Everything started to malfunction.

After starting the vehicle a loud popping sound could be heard from the engine on the passenger side and then all the sudden a fire erupted in the back of the car at the location of the sound. The ignition coil was ripped from its bolt and the spark plug was ejected. The fire department was called to extinguish the flames. Thank goodness i was not driving it with my three kids or we could have been seriously injured. All across the u.s this is happening, does someone have to die before measures are taken?

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. While parked, the vehicle unexpectedly became engulfed in flames. The fire department extinguished the flames and determined that the fire originated from a defective wiring harness. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Sitting at a stop light sounded like a gun shot engine started running very bad . I had a spark plug blow out of the engine.

Started vehicle and began to drive when spark plug flew out of engine again.this is the third time this has happened and ford won't do anything about it.they claim that there is no problem when hundreds of people have had this happened.very costly, time consuming, and stressful.this should never happen and ford should take responsibility.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph when the vehicle exhibited an extremely loud explosion from under the hood. The vehicle was towed to the contacts place or residence. The contact stated that he further inspected the vehicle and discovered that the spark plug had blown out from the cylinder head. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

On several separate occasions the engine has revved upon depression or release of the brakes.this causes the vehicle to lurch forward unexpectedly.the radio also becomes louder as if the speed sensitive volume is affected as well.i have notified the dealer but as they have been unable to duplicate the problem, they have not responded.please help as i fear that this will eventually cause an accident.

An original equipment never changed spark plug on my 2002 ford expedition suddenly and without warning blew off my engine, stripping the threads on the engine block.prior to this failure, the engine was running well and without problems.

My 2002 ford expedition exploded, last night on april 11th.

Spark plug ejected from engine.

Engine blew out #3 spark plug.ford dealer said that this is normal!could cause engine fire by igniting fuel vapors from cylinder.

Spark plug ejecting from cylinder 3 blowing out ignition coil.

Engine backfired blowing out no. 7 spark plug stripping out cylinder head. Has backfired before splitting no. 3 spark plug. Causing the vehilcle to be unusable until repaird.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.the contact heard a clinking noise coming from under the hood when the vehicle was started.she inspected the vehicle and noticed that the spark plug blew off.the mechanic confirmed the failure, but was unable to determine the cause. The consumer stated dealer informed her this is a common problem with expeditions, the mechanic had not repaired the vehicle.the powertrain was unknown.the current is 82,362 and the failure mileages was 76,400. Eq-10203932-4200, date received 12/12/07.updated 12/12/07

I have had six occurrences of a spark plug blowing out of the cylinder head.each time, it blew the coil off also.the dangerous popping and vapors that blow from the now open head are a serious ignition hazard in the engine bay.it is not always the same plug that has blown out.three times this has happened, the threads that the plug goes into are stripped.through research, it appears this is a common problem and although i did not encounter a fire due to the vapors under the hood, it has happened to others before.this is a problem that the manufacturer knows about and is unwilling to do anything about.each time the repair is expensive and the uncertainty of if/when it will happen again is unacceptable.

While driving i heard a pop and learned that the #3 spark plug popped out of the engine at 174k miles.this was the 2nd time it has happened on my 02 expedition as it also happened at 158k miles.

My repair is as described in service bulletin # 041601 and nhtsa # 10018745. My coil was replaced.

Spark plug ejected from engine. Original spark plugs in the vehicle. Ejected at start up of engine. Heads will need to be removed and heli coil inserts installed.

I have a 2002 ford expedition with a 5.4l engine that has just recently experienced a blown out spark plug and coil.in more than half of the 5.4l engines produced by ford between 1990 - 2005 have experienced a blown out spark plug and coil.the plug thread within the cylinder head are inadequate resulting in replacement of your heads or to temporarily fix the problem with the lock-n-stitch method which is ford approved.the reason i am raising this concern is that this situation has affected so many vehicles yet ford still continues to produced equipment set up to fail.i always see recalls on items that are definitely safety issues but are a cheap fix but when it comes to complex problems that are costly to repair and very common among the same style and size engine it should be addressed as well.at this time i am not sure of the result in damage or injury except for maybe the person working on the vehicle.

2002 ford expedition - back passenger side spark plug blew out. Car was pushed to mechanic who was luckily close by at time of blow out. Spark plug was completely blown out, the coil was broken and the intake manifold had to be removed to facilitate repair. Total bill: over $1300. Ford knows about this problem - it is widely reported on the internet - but yet they do nothing to help their consumers.

I'm not sure this is going to do any good, because i am not the first to lodge this complaint.nothing has been done so far.this is the 5th time that this particular incident has happened to me.the most recent was yesterday 2/29/2012. I am very grateful that i was driving each time and not my wife or kids.i have a 2002 ford expedition and on 5 different occasions over a two year period, while driving on the highway and around the neighborhood, the spark plugs have blown out of the cylinder heads.it has not always been the same plug.on 3 of the occasions the coils broke off.i don't understand why me or anyone else as consumers has to pay for the mistakes of ford's poor design flaws.there is no reason why this has not been a recall item.it is clearly a safety issue. If they can recall a running board light, then why have they not been forced to recall this item?i hope that it doesn't come down to someone losing their lives, before something is done.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. After parking the vehicle, the contact came outside to see the vehicle engulfed in flames which were coming from under the hood. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 200,010.

I drive a 2002 ford expedition with a 5.4 triton v8 engine.i have had 2 of the exact same failures on the exact same vehicle.they both were blown out spark plugs!the first was april 24, 2007 and the second was feb. 10, 2009.the first one occurred at 77,402 miles on the vehicle and the second happened at 91,651 miles. I am livid with rage at an problem that i have now learned is very common with this engine.this is an obvious defect with this vehicle and something that can continue to occur over and over since there is nothing to be done about it according to the ford dealer shop service manager who repaired the problem on feb. 10, 2009.i have spent a total of $569.75for these 2 repairs!and obviously feel it will happen again. How can it not?there were not any events or warnings this was going to happen!it just blew out the spark plug and of course could not be driven and required towing.the parts that were replaced/repaired were on both cases a coil assembly and spark plug, rethreading for the plug.i have no old parts and was not given any.why this has not been recalled is beyond my understanding since it will happen again due to the aluminum head that was installed on these vehicles when they were built by ford.that is what the ford dealer service manager told me, in fact. It heats up and gets way to hot than it blows the spark plug!i do not think i should be responsible for repairing/replacing the head in case that would ever happen which it could. Ford screwed up on this one.make them pay to fix this ongoing problem please! i cannot afford to buy a new car.

While driving my youngest daughter to schoolthere was a loud bang from under the hood and a noticeable loss of power. It sounded like the car had a severe exhaust leak. When taken to my local dealer i was informed that a spark plug had blown out of the engine and that this was a very common occurrence with the 2002 5.4 liter engine. I was told that repairs would run anywhere from $700 to $3500.

#1 spark plug ejected from cylinder head damaging coil and plug wiringthis is 2nd incident costing over 4000 dollars to repairhead replaced.

Spark plug #3 blew while traveling with children on the highway resulting in engine damage, repairs of $4000.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact was accelerating from a stop when the vehicle exhibited an abnormal noise and smoke was seen coming from under the hood. The contact stopped the vehicle and found that a fire had started in the engine. The contact was able to extinguish the fire and drive the vehicle home. The contact found that a spark plug had blown and caused the engine fire. The spark plug was replaced but the failure recurred four times and each time, the spark plug was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that there were no recalls for the vehicle. A complaint was filed with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 145,000 and the current mileage was 149,000.

I have a 2002 ford expedition and have now twice in the last 6 months have had to have it repaired for the spark plug ejection fro, the motor. The vehicle gave way with its power right in the middle of the intersection. I feel this is a defect and that ford should take some ownership, it only has 75 thousand miles on it.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.after being parked for two hours, he was advised that his vehicle caught on fire. The fire dept stated the fire initiated within the engine compartment. The fire report number was not available. The manufacturer took report number 0589603419. The manufacturer stated an investigator would be sent within fifteen days to inspect the vehicle. The failure andcurrent mileages were 150,000.

Spark plug explode, when driving at 45mph, car warranty insurance deny claim due that they said is for a bad torque, however those were installed at factory.

The #3 spark plug on my 2002 ford expedition ejected from the cylinder. I was told by a mechanic that this failure could have resulted in a fire in the engine compartment. I am now looking at a $2,200 repair bill!

Ford triton engine spitting spark-plugs out of engine resulting in gasoline being sprayed all over engine. Costly repairs are minimum $400+. This has happened 4 times to me and i can anticipate it happening on the remaining 4 cylinders in my 2002 ford expedition. As a result of this problem ford is aware of, gasoline is being sprayed on 1000's of engines when this happens. Bad design by ford. Aluminum heads on iron engine. Duh. My investigation has determined that there are 1000's of ford owner who have experienced this same problem yet ford is unwilling to do anything about it. Their repair shops will charge anywhere from $400 to $1600 to repair the problem. Please address this issue before my remaining 4 cylinders go and i will have to pay to get this bad design repaired. Thank you.

We were traveling at about 30-40 mph on a sharp curve on a freeway on-ramp. We experienced a loss of power and a very loud popping noise. We pulled over since driving at freeway speeds seemed impossible.we were stranded in a very dangerous spot about 100 feet in front of the freeway on-ramp. After aaa informed us it would be about an hour for a tow truck and an accelerating vehicle came within inches of our car, my family and i decided to abandon the vehicle and climb a very steep and dangerous embankment. I feared for my three kids and wife's the whole time waiting for the tow truck.we were towed to a ford dealer where they told us( a week later) the number three spark plug had blown.the usual problem with these engines. The plug blows because there are only five threads for the spark plug in these aluminum heads. The new design from ford now has 12 threads.we decided to have the whole engine replaced since this cost less than having two heads replaced. Its 5500 for the engine and 3500 per head. We wanted both heads since the other head would be prone to the same problem.i think ford should own up to this problem because eventually there are going to be serious consequences to someone as a result of this. We were only inches away from this happening.

I own a 2002 ford expedition with a triton 5.4l v* engine. While driving i heard a loud ticking type noise from the engine. I immediately pulled the vehicle over. My mechanic stated that a spark plug had been ejected from the block. He stated that this is a common problem with the ford triton engines. I feel that ford should make this right with the consumers that have had trouble with this. I have yet to find a mechanic that will do the repairs for a reasonable amount. The truck has been sitting in the driveway for 3 months, un-driveable. I have not been able to get the repairs done and fear driving it due to the risk of fire and engine failure.

2002 ford expedition - out of the blue, the car blew a spark plug.it was towed, did full tune up and new spark plug.was informed that there have been many problems with blown plugs and faulty aluminum heads in my year and make.it was $500.00.2 weeks later same plug blew out.had to tow again.my choice was either new car or drop a new engine in the car.a new head would have been a band-aid.i had to put a new engine in, the engine and the labor were $6,000.00.i should have never had to do this for a 2002 that i paid over 30,000.00 for.several mecanics said they are seeing more and more of these coming in their shops from years 2000-2002 in different fords.

On three separate occasions, my 2002 ford expedition has blown a spark plug. This is a well documented, albeit unacknowledged by ford, issue with the triton engines.each time, i incurred the direct cost of an independent mechanic correcting the issue using after market repair kits.websites such as consumeraffairs.com are replete with others encountering the same problems.why ford has not been forced to recall and fix these vehicles is beyond me. There is a very real danger with the blown spark plug igniting vapors and starting an engine fire.each time the spark plug blew, it was while the car was in motion, causing rapid deceleration and jerking of the car.i am using the second date of incident for purposes of this report. The most recent occurrence happened on sunday, nov 30, 2008.

While driving my 2002 ford expedition (5.4l) on the interstate, i heard a loud pop and the vehicle immediately lost power and decelerated in heavy traffic. The nearby ford dealer determined that the no.7 spark plug had "blown out".the dealer indicated that they "see this all the time" with this engine. The vehicle was at the same dealer a few weeks prior, and had the no.8 spark plug replaced (while addressing an ignition coil problem).

Ford triton 4.6l engine spark plug blow-out occurred turning a corner at 30. The vehicle immediately started sputtering and lost power. I had to immediately pull over and get the vehicle off the road. The spark plug had been completely blown out of the engine block and taken some additional head with it.

My wife and i were going to eat and the vehicle started running rough.i told her to pull over and pop the hood.i got out, opened the hood and there was a fire on the drivers side of the engine compartment. I attempted to put it out but was unsuccessful.

My 2002 ford expedition threw out a spark plug(#3) after i started it.the car showed no signs of any problems prior to the event.from the number of complaints i've seen online, this is not an isolated incident.the dealer recommended a head replacement but i could not afford the $3,700 they wanted.i had to choose the helicoil fox at $600 and was informed that there would not be any guarantee on this fix or how long it would last.updated 07/17/08

Blown spark plug on a 2002 ford expedition.mileage:36046cylinder number 3i took the truck to ford 4 days before the incident as i had been hearing a slight ticking nose coming from engine.ford dealer told me to keep driving it until something bigger happened as my extended warranty might not cover all labor costs if they couldn't find the problem.turns out it was small exhaust leak around the threads of the plug.once the plug blew on the highway approximately 65 mph loud noise and loss of power.now the vehicle needs a new head and will be with dealer for over a week.

I have a 2002 eddie bauer ford expedition, and it just blew out a spark plug at 66 thousand miles or so.dealer says it isn't covered under warranty.i am seeing a huge amount of these v8 triton engines blowing out spark plugs on the internet, and attempted class action lawsuits.it looks like the engine threading is messed up and the plugs blow out.all the plugs are original factory.i smelled fuel after a loud pop happened, and i was worried the engine might explode from gas vapor, but i wasn't on the freeway thank god.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that the spark plugs caused the engine to fail. The vehicle began to smoke occasionally; however, he was able to continue driving it. Prior to filing the complaint the failure occurred three times. It also seemed to occur once every year since 2007. The first failure was repaired by the dealer according to the extended warranty. The second time, the dealer repaired it at the owners expense. The vehicle was being diagnosed at the dealer at the time the complaint was filed. The manufacturer stated that they were not responsible and that there were no existing recalls. The current mileage was approximately 89,000. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

2002 ford expedition with 5.4l trition engine suffered spark plug "blow out".

# 3 spark plug blew out of head.i was told my ford dealer its common and ford will not issue a recall.triton engines are faulty and ford knew they sold a bad engine for years, the government must step in.i need a refund.

The # 5 spark plug ejected from the head of a 2002 ford expedition 4.6 litre while exiting the freeway. The repair involved tear down of the top of the motor to properly fix at a cost of about $600.00 in parts and a weekend of my time. Repairs included repairing the plug hole by removing the head. This means that the radiator, fan, throttle body, intake, valve covers, exhaust manifold and head all be removed, resulting in gasket replacement as well.

Hello we have a 2002 ford expedition with the 5.4yesterday it blew a plug.we have kept very good care of this vehicle and should not have had this problemwe are a family of 5 and the only thing ford wants to do is put in a new motor or sale me a new car this is not right, this is a on going problem with these motors to fix this problem it will be $500 to try and retap the hole for the spark plug that may or may not hold or $5000 to rebuild the motor.can someone help us.tim

While entering a highway (i-75) heard a loud noise from the engine.after having the vehicle towed to a shop, it was determined that one of the spark plugs had blown out of the engine.in january 2012 the same thing happened at start up again it was determined that a spark plug had blown out of the engine.february 2012 (today) apparently the same has occurred while entering a highway (i-75), i have not had a shop look at it yet.i believe this is very dangerous because fuel vapors could leak out of the spark plug hole and cause a fire or explosion.

Spark plug was blown out of engine head of 2002 ford expedition with 4.6l v8 engine with 89,100 miles.

We own a 2002 ford expedition with about 115,000 miles on it.right when we rolled over 100,000, we have had multiple instances of the spark plugs blowing right out of the engine.each spark plug repair has cost us between $300-$500 plus towing.the car will have no real sign that it's about to blow a plug.which is scary of where you may be stuck when the thing decides to go.the last time (yesterday) that this happened, we were told that the car would need new heads ( a $3500 repair).we have researched this problem, and it is not unique to us as ford owners.complaint upon complaint can be found of the same problem at around the same mileage.ford claims to not be responsible, however they have since repaired the spark plug flaw in newer ford cars and trucks.the problem lies in that the spark plugs don't have enough threading, which causes them to shoot right out of the engine.if they have realized their flaw enough to change it, then they should take on the responsibility in repairing the cars/trucks that are on the road with this problem, and repairing people's pocket books that have already had to shovel out the funds to pay the repairs.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact observed while the vehicle was parked in the driveway flames and smoke expelled from the vehicle. Immediately, the fire was extinguished with the fire extinguisher, and the fire department was not called to the scene. The manufacturer was notified and stated there would be forms mailed concerning the failure which had not been received at the time of the complaint. The vehicle was in the process of being investigated by the insurance company. The failure mileage was 148,592. The current mileage was 148,592.

Ford expedition 2002 fire. In driveway

# 3 spark plug blew for the second time and destroyed the motor head.now have to replace head and have been quoted around $3000 to fix a problem ford has known about and has had many complaints about as well as consumer affairs.

Spark plugs blow out of head two in two months last one burn a hole in head beside number 7 spark plug and was on fire.

2002 ford expedition with 5.4l - july, 2008 spark plug/coil are blown out of #6 cylinder.october, 2008 spark plug/coil are blown out of #3 cylinder.with coil still firing near exposed cylinder being injected with fuel, chance of fire is substantial.spark plugs were replaced and coils replaced.apparently need to install heli-coil kits to prevent it from happening again.

2002 ford expedition spark plug blow out.what the '!@#$%... If this is such a huge problem, why isn't anyone taking responsibility.oh ya they want our money for a problem they are aware of...

While sitting inside car at convenience store with the expedition idling the number 3 spark plug shot out the cylinder head. The car started popping and had to have the auto towed. There are numerous drivers having these problems with ford tritron 5.4l engines. Had to place a heli coil to hold a new spark plug.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.while driving 40 mph, one of the spark plugs ejected from the engine.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 182,000.

2002 ford expedition (eddie bauer) with 63000 miles on 12/24/05, at approximately 1530 hours, we loaded up our infant and toddler into their car seats.i started the engine and immediately heard a loud thumping noise from under the hood and could smell gasoline.i immediately shut off the engine and looked under the hood and noticed that a spark plug coil pack was moved out of place and the retaining screw bracket was broken off the coil pack on the passenger side of the engine.i pulled the coil pack out and realized that the spark plug was no longer screwed into the head.there was no damage to the threads on the spark plug.it was obvious that the spark plug had blown-out of the head.i did a google search and found that there are numerous complaints of the same problem for the triton engine for 1998-2002 model years.i also found that ford is not paying for any repairs.to repair the problem, the head and head gasket will need to be replaced.i got a price quote of $2954.10 (including tax, parts, and labor).had i left the engine run longer, the spark plug will still be firing with gasoline being discharged into the engine compartment, a severe fire hazard.

2002 ford expedition, original factory spark plug was violently ejected from the engine during normal operation.spark plug smashed through fuel injector and dented the hood.had someone been servicing the engine the injuries could have been severe.ford motor company refuses to call this a defect and area dealerships want to charge $700 to $3300 to fix this issue.there have been thousands of complaints and this motor design problem should be recalled and fixed by ford motor company.

My 2002 ford expedition 4x4, 5.3l engine with 71k miles had the #3 spark plug became dislodged as i was driving on the highway at ~65 mph.turns out the threads on the cylinder head are stripped.my car had to be towed to the dealer and is awaiting being fixed.if i choose to have the cylinder head replaced, it will cost ~$3000.i've read other articles and complaints on the internet that lead me to believe there are thousands of people who've experienced the same thing with their ford trucks.i believe there is sufficient data to suggest ford should do a recall on these trucks for this problem.

Vehicle threw a spark plug without warning while at highway speeds. This stripped out the plug socket requiring rebuilding of the engine heads to really fix it correctly to be sure it wouldn't happen again.mechanic expressed that this was common on these vehicles.destroyed the spark coil and wiring as it blew out.could easily have caused a severe accident at highway speeds, towing a trailer.we were lucky it was late and traffic was light.

On sept. 16th, 2005, as i was driving in my ford 2002 expedition, my engine blew a spark-plug out of the engine which caused me to swerve out of my lane and loose all power on the highway.it was a very dangerous experience for me and my family and other drivers around me. I have since learned that ford is aware of this obvious manufacturing defect and has done nothing to prevent this from happening and does not stand behind its product.the attached letter was sent to ford motor company.i purchased a 2002 ford expedition brand new from syosset ford on long island.after four years and 62 thousand miles, i was told by tower ford of great neck that i blew a spark-plug out of the engine head.they requested that i change the entire engine since there maybe cylinder damage, and also i would now have a new warranty for my engine.before spending $5,253.34, i looked into the problem with other customers on the national highway traffic and safety administration and found out that other purchasers of this engine have had the same problem and ford has done nothing to compensate them or fixed the engines problems.they know this is a problem in this particular engine and continue to use it, even though, ford states that no tune-up is need on this engine for 100,000 miles.it is obvious that this is a manufacturer??s defect in the engine and nothing is being done about it. At this point, i had no choice but to have a new engine installed or junk a $39,000 suv. Tower ford replaced the engine in september. Now here i am again, three months and 4,900 miles later i had to change the front blower motor for $335.09.in march two months and 2,100 miles later, tower ford tells me that spark-plugs one and two, and coils one and two, need to be replaced and this is not under warranty for my new engine and it will cost me $488 plus tax.what??s next?

Well we were just driving home when the spark plug of our ford expedition just shot out of the cylinder head and we cant replace it because its too much money for us.

Blew spark plug.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.while driving 30 mph, the spark plugs blew out from the side of the engine.the contact pulled over and the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the vehicle is currently waiting to be repaired.the current and failure mileages were 68,000.

2002 ford expedition blew two (2) sparkplugs out in one week.had #5 fixed at a ford dealer, 6 days later #4 blew out.

Dt: the contact owned a 2002 ford expedition and on friday a spark plug blew out the side of the engine through the right cylinder head and caused the vehicle to lose power.

My 2002 ford expedition with less than 49,000 original miles blew a spark plug and blew a hole in #3 cylinder on january 17, 2010. The vehicle was towed to jack madden ford in norwood, massachusetts and was repaired by repairing spark plug hole and replacing spark plug, ignition assembly coil and installing a helicoil at a cost of $813.00 plus $21 towing fee.after going on-line i saw that this is a common problem with the engine in my vehicle which is a ford triton 5.4 v-8. I've also since learned this problem can lead to fires due to fuel vapor being ignited by loose spark plugs.all engine work on my vehicle is always done by ford dealers! i believe there should be a recall.there is consensus that the spark plug threads on the engine aren't strong enough to hold the spark plugs because they're aluminum from what i am reading from different web-sites on the internet. If you blow one plug you can blow any of the remaining plugs at any given time. Any plugs ever installed in my vehicle or replaced were done by ford certified mechanics at ford dealers so there shouldn't be any complaints of incorrect torqueing of plugs as ford seems to be claiming. I understand this would be a costly recall for ford but one that should be initiated by nhtsa.

Dt: the contact statedwhile drivingat approximately 25 mphheard a loud boom. The vehicle sputtered and jerked. He pulled the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a dealership, where they found the problem to bea blown out spark plug. No repairs were made.

March 17, 2010 i was stopped at a traffic light on leland and loveridge with my 4 small children in the vehicle.the light turned green, i stepped on the gas and heard a pop.then a continous extremely loud popping noise. I turned into the arco and had the vehicle towed. The car was taken to rivera auto repair inc. On march 22, 2010.the #3 spark plugged had popped out. They had to do a sleeve and replaced the spark plugs along with the ignition coil on the plug. After my research, this is very common in the 2002 expeditions because of a defect in the engine. At the time of incident, i had 81909 miles on the vehicle. I do have the old parts. It seems that ford is aware of this problem but refuses to do anything about it.i am glad i was not on a freway. They must be waiting for someone to get killed from this defect. Here is a website with several complaints like mines, spark plugs popping out on their own. Including # 3 like mines. Http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2002/ford/expedition/engineconsequences to such problem can be loss of power, fuel spurting out of the plug opening into the engine compartment, fires can start from vapors being ignited by loose spark plugs. Ultimate consequence would be death.i don't feel i should be responsible for the repair bill when ford has been aware of this defect in their engine.there is consensus that the spark plug threads on the engine are not strong enough to hold the spark plugs because they're aluminum. Please investigate this complaint before someone gets seriously injured or dies from the result of a blown spark plug since it appears to be very common on these types of vehicles. Thank you!

The #3 spark plug blew out of the engine of my 2002 ford expedition while traveling at 65 mph on a crowded four lane highway.we could have easily been in a severe accident but were able to safely navigate our way to the side of the road.

The spark plug in my 2002 ford expedition blew out while i was driving the speed limit on the highway.after this happened, i tried unsuccessfully to get my car repaired at a non-dealer mechanic.every mechanic i called said that they would not touch my car because of the engine and the threads being insufficient.and that most of the repairs are not lasting so the situation escalates to the point where they are losing money to fix this problem that they did not create.the dealer fixed my car and said that the fix has no warranty even though it cost me $1116.98 to repair.i was also told that the problem is common.and that 1 in 100 of the repairs do not hold.the spark plug repair is recommended at the 100k tune-up mark.my car has had all maintenance recommended by the manufacturing including the every 3k mile oil changes.this should not have happened to my car.it was near but not over the 100k mark.and even if the spark plugs had been changed as recommended, the coil would have still blown because the problem is with the thread on the engine, not the plug itself.this item should be recalled and ford knows that they are responsible for putting safe cars on the roads.thank you, vicki bezio

While traveling down the hill the vehicle shut down without prior warning.please fill in addtional information.dealer is aware of the problem.ts

On december 22, 2007 while traveling we heard a 'pop' in the engine compartment and then the sound an smell of exhaust escaping the engine.when taken to bob tomas ford in mckinney texas i was told the the #3 sparl plug had been ejected from the engine head which had stripped the threads.i was then told that this has been an ongoing problem but that ford has not issued a recall and was not providing any financial assistance for those customers who were no longer covered by a warranty.my vehicle had 97,433 miles when this problem occurred. The total repair bill was $3375.20 to replace the right head. I requested assistance from ford after pointing out that the maintance schedule that came with the vehicle did not require a check of the spark plugs until the vehicle had reached 100,000 miles.ford stated they would not assist in any way.

Ford spark plug blow out defect. It is a known defect thousands have experienced. It is where the spark shoots out of engine head stripping threads and damaging the head and sometimes causing fire. My car had this happen and now i am stranded. There are some temporary fixes but no permanent fix. The helicoil can come out. You can replace the engine but it will have the same defect. My car is a 2002 ford expedition 4.6 triton v8. It is affecting 1997 through 2004. Ford is aware but says they wont fix it. I am going to try class action. This can cause fire. This is a 9 passenger vehicle used to carry my kids if it catches fire from it i may not get everyone out in time.

Today i had the spark plug blow out of my ford expedition when i was on the freeway with my 3 kids. Come to find out this is a common problem and ford won't do anything to fix this problem.

I have had two spark plugs blow out of my 2002 ford expedition 5.4l v8.the first blew out after pulling out of an intersection from a dead stop.the second was the #2 plug.i was pulling a travel trailer through mountains on a highway.first noticed was a reduction in power for about 60 miles.then after rounding the top of the mountain, letting off the gas to go down the hill, the plug blew out.

Started with pinging noise from engine 1 day before spark plug on #3 cylinder blew out. Broke coil-over-plug module & required repair to head. Another failure recently occured on #8 cylinder involving head replacement.

After pulling out from a stop sign i had a spark plug blow out of my 5.4l v8 in a 2002 ford expedition.

6 days after having sparkplug #5 blow out of the cylinder #4 blew out.

Spark plug blowout of ford v8 triton motor. Recently replaced motor due to old motor failure. 5/16/2010 loud pop noise and gas leak, motor sounded like a "harley davidson motorcycle" stopped dead in its track in the middle of the road. Two children and myself in the vehicle. Strong gasoline smell and horrible sound, unable to drive vehicle.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated the vehicle was parked in his driveway when it caught on fire. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries. A fire report was available. The contact stated the spark plugs blew out at the cylinder head causing the fuel rail to bend and resulting in a fuel leak that started the fire. The engine was severely damaged. The contact's insurance company advised that the fire originated from a pre-existing failure in the vehicle and would not cover his claim. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where he was advised they were aware of the failure yet would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 190,000.

My 2002 ford expedition (83,000 miles) on the way home from lake powell blew a spark plug out of the cylinder head. We were 350 miles from home on vacation and had to obtain assistance and added expense to return home in time for our jobs. The vehicle is still in st george, utah at a ford dealership being repaired. It was explained that the spark plug issue is well known. There is no assistance from ford for repairing the well known design flaw.

1. Driving, 35mph2. Spark plug blew out of #2 cylinder, damaging coil 3. Vehicle currently waiting for mechanic to check seals and head to determine extent of damage.

The vehicles engine missed, lost power and made a banging noise.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the entire engine was replaced.about 100 miles later the banging returned. *nlm

Motor mount belt separatedfromvehicle ,causing engine to sputter and lose power. Please provide further information.

Spark plug pooped out of my truck twice now...lost power....fuel spurting out of the plug opening into the engine compartment....very costly repairs. It is happening all over the united states....probably worse issues then the current toyota recall in progress now. Go to this web-site and learn more:http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/ford_spark.html . I am afraid of driving this truck now since this issue is dangerous...to lose power while driving on the highway and gas coming out into the engine compartment.

Started as small oil leak. After placing dye in crankcase found drivers side head gasket leaking. I am having both head gaskets replaced for 17k. There is only 49k on this truck with all normal driving. From other complaints that have been posted i do not understand why ford has not been made to respond to the problems with their product line. This problem has been in complaints since '98. Isn't time that some accountability be taken by the manufacturer?

2002 ford expedition spark plug ejection.#3 spark plug shot out of engine stripping threads and requiring an expensive repair.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.when the contact started the vehicle, he noticed smoke coming from the engine.the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the dealer stated that the cause of failure was due to a blown spark plug cylinder.the dealer replaced the spark plug cylinder.approximately two weeks later, while driving 65 mph uphill, the vehicle lost power.the mechanic replaced the spark plugs and performed a tune up.the following day, while driving 65 mph uphill, the vehicle lost power again.the dealer stated that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced.as of july 11, 2007, the engine has not been replaced.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage is 106,710 and failure mileage was 106,000.

On july 6, 2005, my of engine spark plug ejection in certain model year 2002 expeditiontriton v-8 the spark plug detached from the cylinder and/or ejected from the engine. Iheard a loud pop while driving or upon starting up the vehicle followed by a loud, repetitive clicking or popping sound.the popping sound was accompanied by some loss of vehicle power. The vehicle did stall and i was not able to drive it upon starting it due to the loud noise i also smelled gas or a slight burning smell when the incident occurred.

While driving the vehicle misfired and stalled. The dealer rewired and retorqued the front end to correct the problem.

Timing chain and tensioners.

A factory installed original sparkplug in my 2002 ford expedition blew out of the engine for no particular reason.

I own a 2002 ford expedition. The spark plug popped out of the engine head on two occasions. The first time it happened was on thanksgiving, 11/26/2009. The engine was smoking and it smelled like gasoline. My mechanic said this is happening to fords all over the country and that it is documented all over the internet if you do a "google " search on ford spark plugs popping. The repair cost me $500. On january 8, 2010, another spark plug popped out from a different cylinder. The truck is in the shop now. My mechanic advised me not to put new ford heads on the truck because the new heads will have the same defect. I expect this new repair to cost $500 as well. Ford needs to be ordered to issue a recall. This is a dangerous defect that can cause a fire or an explosion under the hood due to the gas vapors being pumped into the engine compartment while the popped out plug is still sparking. I was fortunate to shut down the engine when i started to smell the strong gas fumes.

Dt: the contact stated the inside of thevehicle occasionally had a strong smell of gasoline when driving at75 mph.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, but the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.the contact only used the vehicle for driving her children to school, which was about 5 or 6 blocks away.due to her fears about the smell she tried to exchange the vehicle for another but the dealer denied her request.

We owned a 02 ford expedition which gave me no problem and i loved and owned it out right. In august of 07 the expedition blew out a spark plug from the engine while stopped at a stop light. When i took it to the mechanic they speculated right away what the problem might be and upon checking it out found there speculation to be true. I phoned other mechanics who immediately said they were aware of the problem with that year engine and those surrounding it. It has obviously happened enough times for several mechanics to be aware of the problem and state that ford was doing nothing about it. My husband went to speak to the ford dealership who responded that it was not a problem and they were only aware of a few incidentsand were going to do nothing about our problem. We ended up heli coiling the plugand having a temporary fix. We no longer have the vehicle because i could not trust that it would not blow a spark plug again and we have children and need a reliable vehicle. I'm very discouraged by the fact that i now have a car payment when i didn't before. I don't know if any other complaints have been made but the mechanics here seem to believe it is happening far to often and nothing is being done about it. Again i owned the expedition out right and am very upset about the fact that i had to buy another vehicle because of something that never should have happened. Vehicles don't just blow a spark plug from the engine. Thank you tanya bishop

The radio component overheats to the extent that cassettes and cds are hot - not warm- to the touch.other buttons on the dash are hot to touch.dealer iinstalled a fan behind the radio to cool it down, but this did not solve the problem..it only redistributed the heat.climate control buttons are still hot to touch. Ford says this is "normal" and this is their solution.seems like they only tried to take care of symptom, not solve a problem.also, because fan is silent, we won't know if fan malfunctions until it's too late.something's liable to melt.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that while changing the front passenger tire, the vehicle would not remain stationary on the jack despite being stopped on a flat surface. The contact believed that the failure due to the shape of the jack. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 99,908.

Consumer stated 3 of the 4 tires tires on the vehicle including the spare states the tire pressure should be 44 psi, where as the other tire states 33 psi, consumer has requested information from the manufacturer as to what is the correct tire presure and has been unsuccessful.(goodyear wrangler rt/s p25570r16 109s)

Spark plug popped out my iginition coil and the threading section is stripped. When i started my car an exploration sound occurred. Also, my driver side head light won't stay lite even with replacement light unit. Also car stalls when car is facing down a hill, even with a full tank of gas.

The passenger side turn signal will not work. I have changed fuses, bulb( even though both were good), and have checked wiring and can not get it to work. This is very much a safety issue and i can't imagine that i am the only one this has happen to.

The high intensity discharge lights and the bright lights on suv's are very unsafe. Ph

I am sick and tired of closing my eyes while driving at high speed because your department now allows passenger vehicles to blast oncoming traffic with 4 (four) headlights. I cite in particular the ford expedition where there is no difference between the upper 2 headlights and the lower 2 so-called fog lights. Sometimes, i will blast my own bright lights at these oncoming vehicles to let them see what their own lights look like. In response, the oncoming car or truck (mercifully) will hit their own bright lights which are less bright than the combination of their low beams and fog lights.i really don't understand how idiocy has crept into almost every department in federal, state and local government. How can you possibly think that it's ok to have *****double***** the amount of light coming from a vehicle than in the past. Technology is great but the human eye has not changed. You should review the studies from the middle of the last century to see how they came to the amount of light allowable under law back then. I'll bet they actually used logic in their decision. When, oh when will you morons ever make a correct decision? make the use of fog lights illegal unless there is actually fog or other inclement weather. Otherwise, you are just endangering the drivers of vehicles who are forced by you idiots to stare at this unreasonable amount of light proceeding from these newer vehicles. All you are doing is causing an increase in road rage and loss of faith in american government.*ph

Thank you.

Spark plug flew out of engine...was replaced before with a helicoil kit but same issue occurred today. I was driving to work and i heard it shoot from the engine.

Spark plug explode, when driving at 45mph, car warranty insurance deny claim due that they said is for a bad torque, however those were installed at factory.

Spark plug was blown out of engine head of 2002 ford expedition with 4.6l v8 engine with 89,100 miles.

Fuel delivery failure while vehicle heading down hill. Fuel gauge registers close to half full. Engine quit about 3 - 5 minutes. Able to restart on level ground. This is not safe. Car dealer could find no problem.

My 2002 ford expedition will shut off at inclines of more than 15 degrees even with more than 10 gallons of fuel in the tank. This problem is an inherent problem with all 2001 and 2002 expeditions as admitted by ford motor company and they refer to this defect as a mere "characteristic" of the vehicle. The problem can occur at anytime when the vehicle is at an incline when the front is lower that the rear. This means that i can feasibly run out of fuel while driving down a hill or mountain, lose power steering and power brakes and be involved in an accident where serious injury or death could occur. This is a valid saftey concern and i do not feel comfortable driving the vehicle especially in hilly or mountainous areas. At the very least i could run out of fuel and be stranded in an area that is unsafe. This is unacceptable functionality of the vehicle and ford motor company should address these concerns and offer solutions to the problem instead of weak excuses to why they feel the general public is not at risk here.

Gas gauge registered a half of tankgas.suddenly while traveling down a hill vehicle lost all power.the vehicle consumed 1/4 tank of gas to travel 8 miles. When the consumer got into the vehicle again, it read full. After the vehicle lost power while going down hill, it started up again after a couple of minutes. Consumer came to the conclusion that she is unable to drive or park on a incline (nose-down) with less than a 1/2 tank of gas.*ph

On the 2002 ford expedition i have found that there is a problem with the pick up in the gas tank if the vehicle it is mounted in the center of the tank and if the vehicle is below or at a 1/4 of a tank and parked on a grade at all the fuel will not pick up and run out of fuel causing the vehicle to stall this very dangerous especially if you work down town and park on a grade then you have 2 choices coast to a level area with no brakes or call for help. Luckily my wife's expedition has only done it here at the house where she parks on a hill but most of the time i try to keep it above a 1/2 of a tank to combat the problem. I would very much appreciate it if you would check into this problem and let me know what happens. *nlm

Vehicle would not start - safety problem.vehicle diagnosed at rod baker ford dealership as having a defective fuel pump which wasreplaced at a cost of $766.00.*tc

Over a course of one year of purchasing vehicle, it has been in the shop 7 times for an engine/transmission issue, unsure as ford has not been able to identify the problem. When i contacted ford, they denied to buy the vehicle back due to the mileage on the vehicle. As of today, the vehicle has not been fixed although drivable, for how long until it gives out?

On every fillup of gasoline i have gasoline vapors inside the car which necessitates my opening windows to rid the interior of the strong fumes. There is no spilled liquid and my shoes are clean and all windows are closed and the car is not running and the havoc is off. I am in fear of fire. The service department has not been able to find a problem. This has been present for more than 4 years and has been reported over 10 times to the service department.

I just purchased a new 2002 ford expedition from a local dealer and have just returned it for service. My problem is two-fold: first, the gas gauge registers on full for the first 200 or so miles and then works its way relatively quickly to the half full mark, where it there is only 3 or 4 gallons of gas left in the tank (ford claims it holds 26 gallons). Secondly, trying to fill the tank with gas, as you would any other vehicle, is very frustrating and time consuming. Two or more vehicles will fuel up and leave before i can complete the task. When having an estimated 4 gallons left in the tank, upon refueling, the pump will stop between 11 and 12 gallons, and accept another 10 to 12 more gallons at 4 to 6 tenths at a time,. But get this, the tank will show full with only 12 gallons in it!! the selling/servicing dealer says this is normal. I say that's wrong, and it's unsafe. You never know when it's going to run out, or know how far you can really go on a tank. (no idea if the tank was really full) how about the extra exposure to the gasoline fumes the epa is trying to limit us to and keep out of the environment. It goes without saying that fuel gages have been around for a long time as well as fuel tanks. Not knowing when or where a vehicle (new vehicle) is going to run out of fuel is dangerous for not only the driver but also other drivers. The fuel tank filling problem is inexcusable. These vehicles should be recalled and corrected by ford. Thank you for your help and support.dt

While driving there was a smell of gas fumes and the emission light came on. It was determined the gas tank was defective and was replaced.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the fuel tank straps were fraying and coming apart, but the failure was not due to corrosion. An authorized dealer was notified and they stated that the 2002 ford expedition was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 11v385000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: mounting). The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 70,328.updated 9/13/11 the consumer was informed his vin was not included in the recall.updated 10/28/11

My 2002 expedition 4.6 has for the past year stalled out on an incline with 1/4 tank of gas.it will also revved up and lurch forward when restarted, even while standing on brakes.the dealership has replaced many things and has no reason why it does this.i have had enough.this is a 2002 automobile and the 21st century, this shoudl not be happening to a new car.a dealership should not be unable to correct this problem.ford needs to find the problem and issue a recall, before a lawsuit ensues.

The fuel reads incorrectly , and when driving down a hill, the vehicle hesitates.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. While driving approximately 30 mph, there was an abnormal odor in the vehicle and it caught fire. The fire was able to be extinguished by the fire department. The vehicle was destroyed and towed from the scene. A police report was not filed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact believed that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 06e056000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 200,000. The vin was not provided.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.while driving approximately 5 mph, the contact attempted to park the vehicle on a steep hill.she depressed the brake pedal, but the brakes did not engage.she did not park on the hill because she feared the vehicle would roll away.the dealer stated that the emergency brake was the cause of the failure.they replaced both brake cables, rotors, and rear pads.the current and failure mileages were 80,000.

Ford expedition failed suspension system repair request under warranty.*mrthe consumer's believed the suspension system is faulty.the consumer contacted the manufacturer but they refused any assistance. The transmission started with an occasional chunk and or ratcheting sound, rough, did not move and would bang when moved, the driver window occasionally rolled up out of the top rack and there was air leakage, the vehicle was extremely bouncy and was so severe that the consumers head would bounce against the roof top of the vehicle and the vehicle swayed severely when the vehicle made a turn around curves. *sc

Vehicle was bought used @ 27000 and brought back the day following purchase with thetransmission troubles. This vehicle is and was under manufacturers warranty.ford should have some liability regardless if this was purchased used or not since it is so low mileage and the year make of it and it is under the manufacturers warranty. Transmission slipping and not staying in gear.returned to dealer and they replaced a sensor saying there was 'no response' from thesensor and it was ruled as 'bad'.again in july the vehicle was returned because it was still slipping, smelled of burning rubber...transmission was then rebuilt by the dealer as it had a lot of issues once they opened up the trans.now here less than 4 weeks after that last repair which was the second in less than two months. Transmission is slipping and not changing gears properly. Took this vehicle on a longer duration trip than usual along with high freeway speeds. Once the vehicle gets near 70 mph the trans sticks and the vehicle loses acceleration. The trans trouble i am having with this expedition is ridiculous.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle automatically engaged the four wheel drive when it reached speeds between 30 to 35 mph. The vehicle then began pulling to the right. The contact was able to manually shift the vehicle into drive without having to stop the vehicle or turn the engine off. The vehicle also with much force lunged to the right when the four wheel drive activated on it's own. The vin was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were 42,000.

Ford triton 4.6l engine spark plug blow-out occurred turning a corner at 30. The vehicle immediately started sputtering and lost power. I had to immediately pull over and get the vehicle off the road. The spark plug had been completely blown out of the engine block and taken some additional head with it.

My 2002 ford expedition od light flashes on and off. I was driving down i75 and my transmission kept shifting in and out of gear.. My whole trip. It slammed into gear almost causing me to loose control of my vehicle. This transmission is definitely a safety hazard. It does not do it all the time seems like when we hit bumps in the road.

May 04, my vehicle transmission was serviced (filter changed and fluid replaced) by the local ford dealer. In june 04, under 1,000 miles since the service, my vehicle began to vibrate in the rear end when it would shift around 45 m.p.h.and was returned to the ford dealer who diagnosed the problem as water in the trasmission. The filter was replaced at my expense and the problem has progressed over the last two months.the dealership stated that they could not replace the transmission because there were no other mechanical problems associated with the problem.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. While attempting to park the vehicle, it accelerated to a high rate of speed and crashed into a wall.none of the air bags deployed. The contact was injured and the insurance company recommended that the dealer service the vehicle. The vehicle was at the dealer for 32 days while the repairs were made. The failure and current mileages were 31000.

2002 ford expedition purchased from crossroads ford september 2001. First in for hesitation when pressing gas and idling in reverse. Replace cylinder #6 and two spark plugs. Second time in for same reason. Replaced cylinder #6 again. Third time in for same reason. Replaced nothing--they said they could find nothing wrong. Fourth time in same reason.kept car for nine days, dumbfounded-as they could find nothing wrong -replaced cylinder #6 and the fuel injector after speaking with ford on a conference call--- tenth day picked up car--- eleventh day car is not fixed--still has the same problem.

Transmission slip.o/d light started to blink and transmission clunks into gear. This problem seems to be very prevalent as a few of my friends who own 2000 to 2002 model fords have had this problem.they have had their transmissions replaced or rebuilt.this is a very common problem and the manufacturer is ignoring the problem with their vehicles. 4r100 transmission.i believe this is a solenoid body or harness malfunction.

Problem:after only 54943 miles on my 2002 ford expedition, i could not moved my automatic transmission gear position indicator lever, after inspection, i found out that the shifting cable for transmission was broken into two pieces inside the protective assembly: this problem prevent me from shifting from any gear position. It so happen it broke in ''park'' position. Identical problem as nhtsa recall no. 97v147000 and 97v171000.result:this condition would not allow a disengagement of the transmission from the park position or any other gear position when the cable break on certain position. Unintended vehicle movement could occur.corrective action:ford co. Or ford dealer should make necessary and proper operation inspection of the transmission shift control lever for proper normal operation and its supports. Replaced components if abnormality is found in component operational test.symptoms encounter or abnormalities:hardship on changing gear position from park position to any other gear position. Really had to apply force to move lever.after ford dealer replaced the broken shifting cable assembly, i noticed that changing gear position would only require very light effort, relatively easy and smooth movement of the lever. I could change the gear position with only finger movement compare withreally very hard hand movement before.suggestions:i believe this problem issues was related to previous nhtsa recall 97v147000 and 97v17100 and ford co and its dealership should provide customer assistance of checking this cable assembly intended operation: replaced/repair assembly if found any abnormality. Reimbursed customer when they pay for this kind of avoidable repair. In my case, i have to pay $368 for repair/replacement and another$108 for towing. Total of my out pocket cost $476, which is preventable if only ford manufacturer and its dealership inspect for proper operation of this component which is easily detectable.

My 2002 ford expedition has always had transmission shifting problems.over the years, it will sometimes not go out of 4x4 without some gentle coaxing.just the other day, it shifted out of gear on the highway and the overdrive light started flashing.i started to hear a sound like i was dragging something.when i stopped, i had to drive it in manual 2 just to get it home.at home, it would not go into reverse and was acting like the front wheels were locked up when i put it in neutral.i have had shifting problems for the life of this vehicle (i have had it for 8 years....)this was the first time it has been this drastic.it looks like i will have to have a new transmission.....

My transmission shift lever would not move. I calledfor an assistance, i was told my shifting cable would not moved and probably the cable was broke. I'd asked the towing person to bring my ford expeditionforddealer in bellflower.i search the internet for relative issues regarding my problem was identical to nhsta recall id # 97v17100 and 97v14700. I believe that this is still on going problem with ford expedition since 1997 as indicated to the recall number date. I asked for the old part (shifting cable assembly so i could evaluate what when wrong. I've noticed that steel braided cable was used and it was enclosed in a very strong plastic protection. But the cable break inside the casing. I only have 55,000 miles.i'd also noticed that i could now easily changed or shift the shifting lever with very light movement of my hand unlike when i'd first got my expedition back in april 2002. I'd remember that most of the time i have to really pulled it hard just to shift the lever, back then i thought that was normal but after the shifting cable was replaced i could changed the gear position with just my finger and really very light pressure. So. My conclusive to the issue was 1) ford personnel does not pay attention on proper installation of this shifting cable 2) ford use inferior or substandard part.the movement of the sleeve and the location of the bracket that holds the assembly close to the shifting level will contribute to the problem.i believed ford should look further on this problem because they have this since 1997 i still have the old part and it will be available for further investigation.the newly installed cable seems to be doing its purpose because with just a light pressure i could change the gear position unlike the original cable assembly that i really have to pull hard and push hard to change gear position.

While driving at approximately 15 mph at a parking lot, the 4x4 light in the dashboard became on and all four wheels in the vehicle locked up.the vehicle would not move back or forward.no one was injured as no cars were behind me.after about 15 minutes of trying to move the vehicle back or forward and moving the 4x4 knob in the dashboard, i was able to unlock the wheels and drive homew with the vehicle.i have not driven the vehicle since then until i can get more information on whether there is a safety problem.i intend to call the dealership tomorrow to report the problem.i am concerned about driving the vehicle at a higher rate of speed because if the wheels locked up at a higher rate of speed it can cause an accident if someone happens to be driving behind.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle's driver side seat belts would unlatch independently. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

Be driving any speed it works and both seat belts locking latch will release while driving. It has got worse the front passenger side will not latch any more.

The driver's seat belt disconnects at random times.

Both drivers side and passenger latches unbuckle at random times. Despite secure entry confirmed.

Seat belt locking latch will release while driving. This is a random condition. The dealer could not reproduce the event in the shop and said nothing was wrong. This problem has progressively gotten worse. I will have to fix the problem since i am out of warranty now, but this is a ford problem i have seen noted on other complaints submitted.

While driving, the driver and passenger seatbelts in the front will randomly unlock.this car has not been in any accidents. The equipment is factory originals.this has become a real safety issue as we never know when they are going to unlock.

Two weeks before this problem happen ,the truck starts making tomuchnoiseand air supention didn't go up no more . And stop making noise .

On multiple occasions the driver's side seat belt has randomly unbuckled itself for no apparent reason. If an accident were to occur the seat belt may not be considered a reliable restraint which could result in serious injury or death. After multiple complaints from several consumers this safety device should be investigated.

We were rear ended while sitting at a redlight.the impact was hard enough to launch the 6000 lb expedition 20-30 feet into the intersection.2 out of 5 seat belts opened up and those 2 occupants went flying around in the car.thank god it was not a head on collision.i never retested or checked the seatbelts and the vehicle was totaled and sent to a salvage yard in nc by travelers insurance.injuries were whip lash, strained necks and cervical compression and concussions.

The seat belts front, passenger side unlock by themselves while in motion. It can happen during city or highway driving. This has not been repaired by anyone and is factory original. Seems like a danger to passengers.

Driver's seat belt randomly unlatches while driving despite having been properly latched to start.

Drivers seatbelt unlatches randomly. It occurs at least once a day. I have done nothing at this point. The dealer said it would cost 150 to fix on my own. The 2001 model has a recall on this and they are fixing those for free.

Seat belt will no longer latch.

While driving down the road my wifes seatbelt became unbuckled.then, on 2/27/2013 when i put my vehicle into reverse, my seatbelt came unbuckled.for both seats to become unbuckled with no external influence convinces me we are not safe in our 2002 ford expedition.

The seat belt randomly comes unfastened.at first i thought i wasn't buckling it properly but have since begun yanking on it to make sure it was buckled each time i drive it.it just releases on its own, whether i am going 10-20 miles per hour or freeway speed.it is happening more often, sometimes several times each trip.

My 2002 ford expedition front drivers seat belt does not stay latched.today is the most recent event, several simular events have happed over the last 18 months.

Ford contacted me today responding to my email regarding my seat belt that has been false latching since i bought it on 1/24/02. The man verified the attempts i'd made at dealerships in fixing the problem, and that the only thing i desired was for my seat belt to be fixed. When he came back to the phone, he said any safety warranty was voided because the mileage was over 50,0000, and the recall was for 2001 fords. When asked about all the paperwork from dealerships documenting their evaluation of the seatbelt problem going back to 1/02, he said to try to take the car back there. [i have and they told me to call ford].

Driver's side safety belt fails (disconnects) often.service personnel at a ford service center informed me that they knew of the defect as being a faulty female connection in the driver's side safety belt.they stated there had been no recall and they would not repair it without full costs being paid by me.

I have a 2002 expedition and am having problems with the front passenger seat belt unlatching.i looked it up and the 2001 was recalled.i contacted ford and we took it to the local dealership and they confirmed that it is faulty but not covered in the recall.they won't fix it.it will cost about $150.there is obviously a defect and they have had many problems with their belts and they should fix the problem before more people are killed or injured.we haven't had an accident yet, but i won't ride in that seat.

Brake line ruptured in rear of vehicle when pulling into service station hauling my travel trailer. Was told the line was completely rusted through and this is a common problem on these model year vehicles. I find totally crazy to find brake lines rusting on a vehicle of this age. I was also told the rear control arms need to be replaced because of the rust. I know this was an issue on the windstars and it was recalled ford need to take care of this. Thank god it happened at the station and not hauling my kids to the campground. This needs to be addressed due to the fact there are thousands of these vehicles still on the roads.i know if i call ford they will tell me its not in warranty that's why i contacted you. They cover airbags and seatbelts for life they should cover brake lines.

2002 expedition 5.4l - when braking, vehicle accelerates.brakes were applied as hard as possible yet the vehicle accelerated against the brakes.this has happened 3 time before.speed of vehicle ranged from 5 or 10 mph to 50 mph at time of problem. Vehicle has been taken to local dealer but no problem was found. This last time we almost rear ended another vehicle. Appears to occur only when slowing down for a stop. Will take vehicle to dealer yet again.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.in 2006, the vehicle was repaired according to a recall.a couple of weeks later, the brake indicator illuminated and brake fluid began to leak.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they repaired the failure at the contact's expense.the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 83,000.

On four occasions when applying brakes, and just beforestopping, engine would surge and suddenly accelerate. Vehicle been todealer, anddealer was unable to duplicate the problem. Feel free to provide any further information.

While driving 30-40 mph in rainy weather consumer applied brakes and they locked up, resulting in a rear end collision, consumer suffered bruises. Air bags never deployed.*jg

Brakes on a 2002 ford expedition goes to the floor. Then there is no explanation what is going on. I have taken it to a dealer and they say there nothing wrong. No parts were replaced. The dealer tried everything he knew possible but could not resolve the issue.

Vehicle was parked and it caught on fire. Owner was notified bynephew that the vehicle was on fire. The fire department was notified, and extinguished the blaze. A report was taken, and the cause was determine dto bethe abs sensor and or the cruise control where the fire originated.

My 2002 expedition was recalled in 2005 to replace the cruise control wiring harness.a fused wiring harness was installed to protect the live cruise control circuit from initiating a fire if the brake sensing switch membrane leaked brake fluid.yesterday, 17 sep 07, my cruise control malfunctioned.the brake sensing switch at the master brake cylinder and the cruise control wiring harness coming out of the switch were soaked with brake fluid.brake fluid was all over the engine compartment.i disconnected the wiring harness the area of the switch into which the wiring harness was plugged was full of brake fluid.brake application caused brake fluid to leak out of the switch.the switch membrane was indeed broken.i assumed (wrongly) that the new fused cruise control bundle had probably spared me a fire.i took my car to ford today.they called corporate regarding payment issues.i was informed that ford was not responsible for the repair bill.this specific complaint is not about the bill per se, but about my concern for safety.as it turned out, the new fused harness did not blow the fuse--ford did not replace the harness.i am now concerned that the "hot" fused wiring harness was attached to the brake sensor while it was completely immersed in brake fluid.there is still a significant risk of fire.i have kept the old brake switch, but as previously stated, the fused wiring harness was not replaced since the fuse was not blown (the fuse cannot be replaced--the entire bundle must be replaced per a information label attached to the wiring harness) and is still on the car.significant safety issues are: is there still a risk of fire when the brake switch brakes/leaks and, what is the safety implication with regards to braking given an increased risk of failure and subsequent leakage of the brake fluid at the switch?

2002 ford expedition: right front brake(s) making grinding noise when driving and is exaggerated when braking.called dealer to schedule service.asked service advisor why wear indicator(s) did not work.service advisor informed me that ford has not installed brakes with wear indicators for years.i told the service advisor that it is unbelievable that a $30k vehicle would not have bps with wear indicators especially since my 1992 vw jetta has brake pads with wear indicators. I removed the rf tire to examine the brake pad(s) and discovered that the brake pad(s) do in fact have wear indicatorshowever, the brake caliper is stuck which caused the inside brake pad to wear prematurely.this has scarred the rotor.

While driving there's a squeaking noise.brake calipers are sticking. Please provide any further information.

Brake pedal felt rough upon stepping on pedal (i have a little more than 30k miles on the vehicle) i do work on my own vehicles and i am very knowlegable when it come to basic repairs i inspected both roters on the front of the vehicle and found the driver side inner pad completely worn to the metal the outer pad still has approximately 1/4 inch before it hits the indicator obviously my caliper is sticking i have an appointment tomorrow im curious what tey will say.

The contact owned a 2002 ford expedition. While the vehicle was parked, the contact smelled a burning odor. The contact found that the master cylinder caught fire. The fire department was not contacted. A fire report was not filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to crowley ford lincoln (225 new britain ave, plainville, ct 06062) where it was deemed destroyed. The dealer did not give a diagnosis, but contacted the manufacturer multiple times to determine what ford should cover. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v017000 (vehicle speed control). The manufacturer provided case number: cas12637815 and advised the contact to call his insurance company. The manufacturer stated that they would send an inspector. The approximate failure mileage was 183,000. Updated 09/07/17*lj

Steering wheel locks up, and brake and accelerator pedals stop functioning when this happens.please provide any further information.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.while driving 30 mph, both the brake and accelerator pedals were in the up position.while turning the vehicle, the accelerator pedal dropped.with the accelerator pedal down and the brake pedal still up, it became difficult for the contact to drive.she has not yet spoken to the dealer.the vin, engine size, number of cylinders, and powertrain were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 116,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving on a paved interstate, the passenger side front tie rod fell off.an independent mechanic determined both sway bars were fractured and the other three tie rods needed to be replaced.there were no problems with the vehicle prior to the incident.the dealership was aware of the problem. Updated 11/3/2006 -

We bought our 2002 expedition feb/2006.since then, every time it rains, we experience water dripping from the visor hinges.we were concerned that our roof will rust so we took it to our mechanic but he could not find the problem.we continued to drive it but became more concerned about the potential problems so we took it back to our mechanic and told him to keep it until he finds the problem on oct 30, 2006.we also noticed our dash lights flashing.we told him to also find out what is causing this problem also.we received a call from him later in the day and he advised us that he called the dealership who advised him that there's an overlayment of metal behind the windshield that ford failed to seal correctly and the windshield wasn't sealed correctly so when it rains or snows, the water seeps through the windshield and fills the pillars with water.the overflow of water from the pillars is what drips through the visor hinges.some of the water leaks into the wiring in the dashboard and other places.ford advised there is no recall for this.we found someone else had a similar problem from a petrina compton @ my3cents.com which she advised of a "special message" sent directly from ford to all ford dealerships in april of 2002 which states 1997-2002 expeditionsmay exhibit electrical problems due to water leaking in through incorrectly sealed windshields.special message #15773.if ford is already aware of this problem and they admit they are aware of it in so many years of models, why has there not been a recall on this?i feel that this defect will be a potential safety hazard while operating vehicle when the electrical fails or causes a short in the electrical system and causes a fire.please take the time to investigate this defect.i'm sure there are several other owners who have the same problem but don't know where to turn or have been told by their mechanics and dealerships that they cannot locate the problem.

Windshield leaked on driver side during a rainstorm.water then entered a relay control box causing electrical malfunctions with the climate control system. The system ran without the key in the on position while the vehicle was unattended.

2003 expedition leaked water inside vehicle. The outside molding of the windshield came off.the consumer stated while driving, the head lights, interior lighting and radio all went out due to the leaking water which was affecting the electrical system.the doors rattled.

While driving at 40mph, the consumer had experienced a head-on collision with another vehicle, in which the airbags did not deploy.estimated property damage was 20000 dollars.the accident caused the front-end to collapse all the way to the engine block.*scc

*sc

During inspection it was noticed that the upper and lower rear control arms were rusted through and unsafe. Had them replaced including the rusted through shocks.hood and roof paint shows serious paint peeling and bubbling.

Roof separated from the supports. *la

Ford 2002 expidition.52,000 milessun roof drip tray has fallen loose.railings and drip trays need replacing.ford has issued a bulletin on this issue and knows it is a problem, yet refuses to acknowledge a recall on this issue.if safety is a concern, then rain inside my vehicle while driving should be a good enough to satisfy that concern.

Rust developed on the roof of car in support grooves.

While driving at highway speeds the vehicle will start to vibrate atsteering wheel, causing some trouble forconsumer on controllingvehicle. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was aware ofproblem, but had no remedy forproblem.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.the contact noticed something leaking from under the vehicle.also, while the vehicle was in operation it would bounce up and down abnormally.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired.the current mileage was 202,000.the approximate failure mileage was 185,000.

Takata recallduring an inspection of my suspension for worn bushings, i noted severe corrosion on my rear trailing arms for the rear axle. The lower arm on the passenger side actually had a quarter size hole in the inboard side of the web. This obviously greatly reduces the strength of the arms and could cause axle separation from the vehicle and an obvious control hazard.

The consumer stated that four days after purchase, the vehicle vibrated and lunged side to side, the tires were balanced to try and correct the problem, however the problem was still not resolved.

Had routine service on my 2002 expedition at dealership, was told i needed to replac upper and lower trailing arm also track arm because of severe corrosion.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. While driving at low speeds and attempting to accelerate, the tires wobbled. In addition, the front and rear of the vehicle were unstable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that all four rims were bent. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who diagnosed that the belts and bands were worn for all four tires and that all four tires could have blown out. The mechanic stated that the front passenger side tire was frayed to the point that it could blow out and needed to be replaced. All four tires were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.

Expedition became uncontrollable on dry, flat, pavement. "fish tailing" until going in a ditch. Brakes were not responding; and steering was irradict.

When speeding over 35 mph front endwill start to shake real badly. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Failure of rear air suspension while driving.found previous modification to rear height sensor, replaced ball joint brackets with bolt, washer, and nut."dealer not responsible", but they did adjust the sensor prior to sale.

One of the four tires had lower pressure markings and the consumer believes it was potential safety hazard. (goodyear wrangler rt/s p255/70r16).

Tires have been seperating for some time now. Original tires have been discontinued and are on nationwide backorder. Contacted dealer reported to be ordered. Have been on order for 3 weeks now.my husband has found a different brand of tires to fit the vehicle but the dealer and ford insist on the exact same brand and make of tires.the brand is no longer available.the ride quality on the vehicle is beyond horrible, but so far no accident has occured.would like to be reimbursed for having to purchase my own tires for a vehicle with a warranty.y

While driving at 35 mph driver felt vibration in the right rear of the vehicle. Recall 02t0120000.

Dt: vehicle wa shydroplaning; very badly at low and high speeds in the rain .

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact was driving 5 mph when he heard a noise coming from the vehicle.the contact discovered that the spare tire had fallen and partially detached from the vehicle, hanging by a cable. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The failure and the current mileage was 75,000.

While driving,a loud noise was heard coming from the front. Consumer pulled over, andnoticed that the right rear tire tread separated from the wheel. Consumer changede the tire. Continental , general, p265/70r17.

An original equipment never changed spark plug on my 2002 ford expedition suddenly and without warning blew off my engine, stripping the threads on the engine block.prior to this failure, the engine was running well and without problems.

My 2002 ford expedition experienced an electrical malfunction due to a liquid build up in its system. The dealership said they could not determine how the moisture was entering the vehicle. The audio system and windshield wipers would not operate in the reverse or drive positions. The vehicle was returned to the dealership twice, on the last occasion, a small fire started, resulting in the starter being burned up. No injuries occurred, but the dealership charged me $1065.70 on the first repair bill, and 335.00 on the second repair bill. An explanation or sensible solution was not given for correcting the problem.

During inspection it was noticed that the upper and lower rear control arms were rusted through and unsafe. Had them replaced including the rusted through shocks.hood and roof paint shows serious paint peeling and bubbling.

I pulled my ford expedition 2002 into a gas station, turned off the engine, and got out to pump gas.i began to notice that everyone else began frantically leaving and telling me to run. I saw smoke coming from my hood and assumed that it was just running hot but soon realized that the engine was off. Within seconds i began to see flames and ran in fear that the entire gas station was going to explode. Luckily fire trucks came within a minute a put the flames out and no one was harmed.

While at a complete stop with foot on brake, engine "revs" and lurches forward.this has happened 5 times over the past 2 years.no accidents have occurred.took vehicle to shop after the 4th time but they found nothing.*la

We purchased our 2002 5.4l expedition on october 13,2001.on approximately5 occasions, we have been at a stop with the brake pedal depressed. The engine suddenly accelerated, causing the vehicle tolurch forward requiring you to apply additional pressure to the brake pedal to avoid collision orfurther unwanted movement of the vehicle.it is very stressful to drive, thinking that it will happen again.we have brought this problem to the attention of our dealer several times.they cannot detect the problem and indicated that there were no similar complaints on file.the last incident occurred on on dec. 4, 2003.after contacting the customer service department at ford motor company, we requested that the dealer install a flight recorder. Iwe fear for the safety of ourselves, of our children, and of others. To further aggravate the situation, service staff from our ford dealer have suggested that it is driver error (suggesting that we are applying pressure to the brake and gas pedal simultaneously.we are certain this is not the case).please let us know of your findings and any additional steps to take.thank you.

2002 ford expedition spontaneously combusted. Last drove 8 hours prior to fire.dealer disconnected cruise control switch on 11/30/05 (as per recall) and my documentation from dealer shows this service was done. Have never been notified by dealer of new part availability. So what cause the fire? did have a fuse blow about 6 days prior. This is the fuse that includes control of the shift lock. Truck is totaled.

Vehicle caught on fire under hood as a result of vehicle speed control switch. Filing claim for resulting total loss of 2002 ford expedition eddie bauer. Please contact for details and engineer report. (reported by ins co).

The cruise control switch that was under recall caused my 2002 expedition to catch fire in my driveway.i had gone down when the recall was first announced, but the part was not available and no one ever called me to let me know that the part was available.

On at least 3 occasions when applying the brakes my 2002 expedition accelerated. One of these times i was at a complete stop and saw my rpms jumpup to 2000.

Small fire extinguished prior to fire department arrival. Fire occurred on a sensor attached to the brake fluid reservoir. Fire appears to be consistent with speed control deactivation switch as previously recalled.no damage outside of vehicle.

Dt:the callercomplainedabout unwanted vehicle acceleration. This happened regardless ofweather conditions andintermittently.dealercan't find the cause of theproblem because they could notduplicate it. Manufacturer said they would note the problem and contact dealerif they foundan answer. Caller stated it happenedmostly when vehicle wassitting still, like at a light or stop sign. Caller saidthe problem she read about was the throttle sticking.the consumer states that this could've caused and accident, she was in her driveway and the car lunged forward while her foot was on the brake pedal. Update 4/23/07tr

I bought my ford expedition (2002) brand new, have always been the registered owner and have never received a recall notice for the vehicle.my ford expedition caught fire at our family medical facility (rancho bernardo) after an hour of being off and parked.the medical facility announced a car on fire with description and i ran outside and called 911 but fire department responded as i was still on the phone.thanks to the lightning speed of rb fire there was no damage to anything except my vehicle. The firefighters on the scene told me that they suspected the cruise control switch.it only burned inside the engine compartment - in front of the driver side.an independent fire investigator determined after completing his investigation that the vehicle fire was due to a faulty cruise control switch and brake fluid had leaked into the electrical circuit that is always on for the cruise control.the vehicle was still declared a total loss by my insurance company due to high repair estimates.on 8/5/2008 my insurance company purchased the vehicle from me for a little over the kbb private party value due to recent vehicle add-ons i provided receipts for.my insurance company waived the deductible.my family (3 people) was down to 1 car for a little over a month and we all work and go to school.on several days i had to get a rental car and did not have insurance to cover these costs and have not been reimbursed for the days i had to rent a car.

Dt*: the contact stated while parked and unattended, there was a fire in the engine compartment.the fire engulfed the entire vehicle.the fire department was called to the scene and a report was taken.the contact was informed the fire began in the area of the vehicle speed control.pictures were taken, and the manufacturer had not been notified.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.while at work his vehicle caught on fire while parked at home . The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The cause of the failure was unknown.the failure mileage was 104,000.

My ford expedition 2002 was recalled for fire hazard due to the cruise control. I had the repair done at mccoy mills ford in fullerton ca. And a few weeks later my car burst into flames in my driveway while parked. The car was totaled and now i do not have a car and can not buy any thing comparable for the 12,000 the insurance paid. I believe ford owes me the difference because i followed the rules and had the car "repaired" by them. What should i do now?

I received a letter from ford stating that there is a safety defect with speed control deactivation switch for my vehicle.in this letter i've been instructed to contact my local ford dealer to set up a time/ date for repairs.i've been told by the dealer that "they don't have the part in" and would "call me" when it arrives.its been almost a month and nothing has been done.what my next recourse of action?

I have owned two ford expedition, both of which were wreckedwhen it rained. My concern is that the vehicle becomes very loose in the rear when it rains and that is the problem that has lead to me having my accidents.

Suv will suddenly idles at a very low speed - mostly when coming to a stop or yield. The brakes are applied with much force in effort to keep vehicle from lurching forward into the rear end of another vehicle.vehicle's engine will then 'die' and i will have to put it in neutral or park to restart.does not matter what the temperature is.the vehicle does the spiradically about once a week.i'm afraid this will cause an accident in which my 5 year old is precious cargo - daily.

Vehicle accelerates by itself while braking during stops.the speed of vehicle is about 2-5 mph and the acceleration comes on without warning.tachometer jumps to about 1500 rpm.this lasts for 2-3 seconds with engine speed returning to normal.this is an intermitant problem that i nor the dealer can duplicate.they are unable to find the cause.the first time this happened was behind a miata that was stopped at a traffic light and i was approaching from behind when it accelerated and i almost mounted the rear of that car.it pulled through the brakes and jumped forward.this has happened 4 times since bought new in aug of 2002.it is happening more and more frequently.i have requested a replacement truck thru ford as well as the franklin square, ny ford dealer where i bought the car.i have not received and communication from the company or the dealer.the dealership refused to indicate in their paperwork that this vehicle was in safe mechanical condition.this is a severe safety problem and need your assistance forthwith.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that while parked for over 20 hours the vehicle caught on fire. The vehicle had not been diagnosed by a mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 150,000.

2002 ford expedition i purchased 6 days ago caught on fire in my front yard. The vehicle was not running it was just sitting in my yard. I informed the seller when i purchased the vehicle that the cruise control did not work and a few other things were wrong. I was told to bring the vehicle back on the day that it caught on fire. Before i left my house, i was informed by a neighbor that it was on fire. I do have a police report of the incident.received 12/12/07 . 64200.updated 12/12/07

Vehicle had no mechanical issues up to the date of the incident.the vehicle was driven on a daily basis to and from work.the vehicle caught fire while parked in the driveway.after researching online what may have caused the sudden fire, we found it was due to a recall for the speed control deactivation switch.

The ford expedition was parked at walmart and just caught on fire it also burnt two other vehicles before the fire department was able to put it out,the ford was fully engulfed and the cavalier beside it was also burning and was completely burnt on the passenger side and the honda in front of it was also damaged.

Vehicle was parked and it caught on fire. Owner was notified bynephew that the vehicle was on fire. The fire department was notified, and extinguished the blaze. A report was taken, and the cause was determine dto bethe abs sensor and or the cruise control where the fire originated.

In march 2012 mother was pulling into a parking lot in waco.car suddenly accelerated and ran through the parking lot eventually hitting a parked car.car was fixed and mother told them to check this issue out.again on 9/3/12, she was pulling into a parking space the car squealed, suddenly accelerated, did almost a u turn and ran into the wall at walgreens.thankfully, no pedestrian was walking out of the store or they would have been seriously injured.

While at a busy intersection, the vehicle engine revved and lurched forward requiring extra brake pressure to avoid collision.the rpms were over 1500 at a stop. This is the second incident and the dealer has been contacted.

My vehicle was functioning fine. I ran an errand, came home , parked my 2002 ford expedition under the parking shed and went into the house. Not over 45 minutes later my younger sister came and told me that my car was sparking and smoking. When i went to check on my truck i could see smoke and flames. I ran into the house to get the fireextinguisher and used it to put the fire out. I am fearful of driving this vehicle again but my insurance company feels that it can be repaired but can they assure me that this car won't experience the same sort of malfunction? what should i do? i want to drive a ford expedition but i don't want to drive this one anymore. I had to undo the battery later because sounds of sparks andthe smell of burnt wire was still coming from the vehicle. What if this issue creates a chain reaction to my electrical system? i need a reliable car not a scary one. I checked the recall list for my car but am not sure if the recall is the cause for the fire but when i entered my vin number recall #05s28came back. It indicated there was a recall regarding the speed control system. I don't know what that means and really don't care to but i want my truck. I don't want that truck fixed or repaired and if it is, give it to somebody else that can drive around in it not have experiencing what i did in it. Please, thankyou

2002 ford expedition, sticking throttle or accelerator causes sudden acceleration and is quite dangerous, has happened several times and almost drove into a building.almost feels like the cruise control is engaged but is not, this has happened just sitting at a stop light and happened when trying to pull into a parking spot and has happened a few times while driving.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and shut off when it caught on fire. The contact was able to extinguish the fire and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the cruise control and master control sensors needed to be replaced as per the instructions of nhtsa recall campaign id number: 05v388000 (vehicle speed control). The contact spoke with the manufacturer and was advised that the vehicle would not be repaired under the recall because the contact was sent notice of the recall and never responded in order to have the vehicle repaired. The contact stated that he never received notification of the recall.the failure and the current mileages were 171,297.

On four occasions when applying brakes, and just beforestopping, engine would surge and suddenly accelerate. Vehicle been todealer, anddealer was unable to duplicate the problem. Feel free to provide any further information.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v388000 (vehicle speed control). While at a stop vehicle revs up and lurches forward even though you have your foot on the brake. Also while driving the tachometer revs up for about a minute then goes back to normal.

Dt:the consumer states her 2002 ford expedition the vehicle lunges forward.her husband was at a stop light and with his foot on the brake it lunged forward.her son picked her up in the vehicle today, with his foot on the brake it lunged forward while she was trying to get in the vehicle.then it happened again at a stop light and they almost hit the vehicle in front of them.at that point, she called her husband and he told her it has occurred a couple of times to him.the dealership did not have any information as to why this happened.the dealership where they purchased the vehicle stated ford is not responsible for that problem.the problem started a couple weeks ago, not definite.

The contact owns a 2002 ford expedition.the contact stated that the cruise control switch was inoperative.through online research, he found recalls listed for the same year, make, and model of his vehicle, but was unsure if they pertained specifically to his vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 140,000.

I have received letters from ford stating that there is a defect in my cruise control system on my 2002 ford expedition.i have been receiving such letters for over two years.i have on at least six occasions attempted to schedule an appointment to get this repaired at one of several local ford dealerships.i am constantly informed that there is a shortage of parts and they cannot schedule the repairs.if this is a serious safety concern, ford needs to make it a priority to make the parts available.my most recent letter is dated may 20th, 2008.

Cruise control and hornfailed.the dealer stated the cruise control cable wire overheated and fused together in the harness.

Ford has a recall on 2002 ford expedition. In december 2005 they put a harness on the switch because switch was not leaking then.in september 2006 my cruise control went out because of the switch leaking and subsequent failure.at that time ford made us pay for this repair job even though they know these switches are bad. We have the part that they replaced. Recall should advise that they are only keeping the bad switch from starting a fire, not replacing a defective switch.

2002 ford expedition - cruise control stopped working approximately one month before engine caught on fire while car was parked, not running.

First i had a fuse blow, that prevented the car from being put into gear. Once the fuse was replaced, it was fine. A week later, while stopping at a gas station, with the car turned off, smoke started coming from the front of the hood. Within minutes the whole engine was on fire. It wasn't until later that i found out that this problem was nation wide! i bought the car from a dealer, that was not a ford dealer, so i received no recall notices! the car was totaled.

Consumer receivedrecall 99v062001 concerningcruisecontrol cable.no parts were available.

On the early morning of july 2, 2005 a fire started in our 2002 ford expedition.this has subsequently been confirmed by the houston fire department and 2 independant consultants retained by our insurance company.they indicated that the cause of the fire was the cruise control brake deactivation switch.the fire destroyed both of our vehicles and our home.the total damages are estimated at approximately $650,000. What is more concerning is that we were aware of the problem with the switches - in early may we took our expedition to randall reed ford in humble, texas and they told us they had replaced the switch.are the replacements as dangerous as the originals?

Electrical problems from windshield leak.thought it was moonroof drains, had them checked & cleaned at dealer. Still leaking. Keep hearing electrical clicking noises from under dash and somewhere in backseat whenever it rains.driver's seat heater no longer working, rear heat/ac blowers intermittently not working.
