The suv truck was involved in a t-bone collision of 55 mph and neither frontal air bags deployed. No one was transported to the local hospital, but the driver andpassenger sustained minor injuries and the truck was totaled by the insurance company. The dealer was notified.

Front crash at 55 mph, neither airbag deployed. No injuries, damage to vehicle unknown at this time.consumer stated that one person from the other vehicle was injured.

Was driving on highway and vehicle all of a sudden lost power kept pressing the gas pedal and it wouldn't go as felt like you wanted to turn off it would stall we have checked everything in the truck engine everything and everything seems good transmission does not have any metal shavings i did notice that for some reason the electrical panel have melted it was all completely melted and they believe that the transmission is also melted and stuck together i'm not sure because we still haven't i mean transmission has no signs that something wrong with it i think this is very thing i think this is very dangerous for a vehicle to just stop in the middle of the freeway and imagine if they would have been traffic thank god that there wasn't that nobody was right behind me cuz the truck just stopped and it was not going

The cps (crankshaft position sensor) failed with no warning at all.this is one of those things that is not a moving part, and should have lasted hundreds of thousands of miles.i understand there have been a lot of complaints about it.sign me on to that bandwagon.

Ford excursion 2002, blew out spark plug through piston cap,.. After $5000.00 in fixes, i went to pick it up, and it blew up again on the way home from the dealership. I lost power on the freeway going 65 miles per hour, and almost crashed. Ford was not at all helpful, and even though i am a very good customer, could care less about me, the danger of the v10 engine blow ups, or about their customers lives.... Is their any way you guys could make them do the right thing ??? isn't there any law or organization that can help us ??? *la (per 10/24/2005 phone call with consumer:no crash, no injuries, no fire, no property damage other than engine damage -c. Rose)

In june of 2003, a 2002 ford excursion limo suffered a fire loss under the hood.the vehicle was parked without the engine running or power switches on.it had not been used for several hours.while an employee was in the passenger area cleaning the limo, he noticed the vehicle was on fire underneath the hood.the fire originated on the left side of the engine compartment.damage towiring and other combustibles was extensive.no cause of the fire was determined.after hearing of the cruise control deactivation switch recall, i believe the casuse of this fire could have been the switch malfunction.i know the excusions have not been included in the recall, however, since they have the sameswitch and operating characteristics, it is possible that the cause was a switch failure.i have also heard of another excursion in our area having a fire loss with similiar conditions.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion.in an attempt to drive the vehicle, the contact smelled burning wire.the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they discovered a melted fuse box.the fuse box was replaced, but the dealer could not explain the cause of the failure.the current mileage was 92,232 and failure mileage was 92,230.

The vehicle experienced electrical and suspension problems.the suspension problem caused the tires to wear prematurely.please provide any additional information.

The vehicle has a front suspension problem which causes the vehicle to vibrate, the vehicle has been to the dealer 3 times but the problem still exist, both driver side doors are misaligned with respect to the fender trim, the differential was originally misaligned with respect to the rear fender trims, now the differential is properly aligned and the consumer questioned the technicians who stated that they did nothing to correct the misalignment, the consumer feels this is a definite safety problem if the differential goes in and out of alignment on is own, the a/c was not cooling and needed to be recharged, the consumer can hear static in radio when turning on the rear tv switch, a/c and turn signal, steering gear and hydro boost line replaced, tire out of balanced causing vibration at 75-70 mph, steering out of adjustment (off center), calipers replaced, transmission experiencing a delay when shifting, both wiper blades off center, drain plug leaking oil, weather stripping on right rear door failed, headliner is coming loose on the left side, windshield washers inoperative, fuel gauge read incorrectly, faulty accelerator pedal caused the vehicle to stall when coming to a stop.nlm

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion.while driving 70 mph, the vehicle's horn began to sound intermittently.the contact had to pull the horn pad out of position.the dealer has the vehicle but was unable to determine the cause of failure.the current mileage is 200,000 and failure mileage was 150,000.updated 06/14/07.

Kept having to replace fuse #45 on my 2002 ford excursion limited diesel 4x4.after putting into any gear, go to give it fuel it would nt do anything.researched the internet and found that there was others with ford truck 1999-2003 having same problem and read what they did to fix it.apparently in the gear shift, there are 3 very short wires that were fraying due to be pinched.so since it was not under warranty we had to have the steering box cover removed and there it was, the wires were almost completely frayed.they were fixed and another fuse was installed only to find out that the truck would not do anything.had to have it towed to a dealership and spent $600 on a new fuse box since the original one was fried due to the frayed wires.i drive 60 miles one way to work everyday and have 2 little girls and this could have caused a fire and believe me, ford would have been in big trouble.so if others are having the very same problem, why has there not been a recall.it has been noted on the internet in various public forums.compensation for me and others with an addition to a recall would be the solution and greatly appreciated before this causes deaths.

The electronic controller for the over drive lock switch is shorting out in my 2002 ford excursion.i experienced a problem with the gauges turning off while i was driving around atlanta, ga with my family.the battery went dead because the fuse that controls the dash gauges blew.the alternator quit charging the battery, and the gauges quit working.i did not notice this problem until i was stopped at a red light and the engine died.i restarted the car, put it in drive and when the light turned green the engine began to stall and the transmission would not shift.take off was very sluggish.the engine ran for about 300 feet and died again so i pulled into a convenience store parking lot.i determined the battery went dead and bought another one to get me home.my wife took the car to a service center and they found the bad fuse for thedash gauges.this was about 3 months ago.the car has blown several fuses since.today the car's gauges would work intermittently.while driving the car the gauges would go one and off when i tried to set the cruise control or move the gear shifter.when i got home this evening i disassembled the plastic covers for the steering column.i found that the wire for the over drive lock out switch has insulation that has rubbed off leaving a hole. The exposed wiring is grounding out onto the shaft of the gear shift that parallels the steering column.please inform ford of the potential fire hazard, and let them know that they have to find a better way of routing wire around moving metal surfaces to prevent shorting out thewiring.

The spark plug blew out of the cylinder head (cyl #3), damaging the thread, the spark plug, the spark plug boot and the ignition coil.this is the second time this has occurred in this vehicle in the last two years. The first was approximately 2 years ago and that was the plug in cylinder #5. The same damage occurred.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion. The contact stated that each time she drove the vehicle, it stalled without warning. After the failures, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and waited a minute or more to restart the vehicle. Sometimes, it took up to four attempts before the vehicle would restart. When the vehicle was restarted, it hesitated to move. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure code. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and informed the contact that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v553000 (engine and engine cooling). No further assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 210,000.

I started my truck after sitting for 36 hours and what sounded like bad exhaust leak ..after being checked out by mechanic found that a spark plug and coil has been spit out of motor ..i had them repace spark plug and coil on top which repaired the problem ..today i was driving to town 10 miles and after stoppi g to get gas the noise started again !

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion. The contact stated that the vehicle blew the number six spark plug out of the engine. The spark was replaced but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

I have a 2002 ford excursions and 2 time spark plug ejection from the motor.

Accelerating from a stop, a spark plug ejected from the cylinder head.

Camshaft position sensor needed to be replaced.i had defective part replaced at my expense and then received safety recall notice for same part.i am having trouble being reimbursed for the cost of the repair.

While driving down the highway at approx 60 mph the spark out of the # 1 cylinder was ejected from engine.brought to local mechanic who installed a heli coil and replaced spark plug.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion. The vehicle was included in the recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 07v553000 (engine and engine cooling:engine:diesel) and was repaired. After the repair while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician performed repairs to the vehicle but the contact was unaware of the exact repairs. The failure continued. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I have a ford excursion 2002 v10 with 116000 miles on it.after 8 hours of a road trip one of the spark plugs ejected from the engine.this is the second time this has happened with this motor.i purchased the vehicle at 100,000 miles and the owner had it happen once to him.

Slight ticking sound, like an exhaust leak, leading to the spark plug blowing out of the cylinder head, damaging the threads and also coil pack to break.

Truck started to stop and stall. Happened approximately 5 times leaving me stranded on the side of the road when it finally stopped the truck dead.

2002 ford excursion with 6.8l v10 triton blew a spark plug out.spark plug had been in engine for 30000+ miles and was professionally installed and torqued.

My 2002 ford lexcursion blew out it's spark plug yesterday. You all know the story by now: corporate will not help. My local dealer will not help. And, as most of you already know, the government to this date has done nothing to help either. These kinds of things are exactly what is wrong with this country: more often than not there is no accountability for things that go wrong. I will never buy a ford again, this whole situation is breaking my heart because i really do love america and my beautiful american-made ford truck. It's a excursion, people. My point is that it was built here in america, not outside our borders like some of the other cars we buy. The manufacturer includes a numbered certificate with each lexcursion to verify that it was built by americans, in america, for americans. I am ashamed of ford, and of my govenment for letting this go on for so long. This has been happening with ford v8,v10 all trition engines spanning back 11 years, and that's just what i've found so far: i've been searching online for only about ten minutes now. When i googled the issue i didnt even put ford's name in the search box. I just typed "why do spark plugs blow out?", and it spit out a ton stuff about fords, in particular their triton 6.8 v10. How many millions of these have they installed? good people of america: they won't acknowledge the problem because to do that would cripple them. This is their version of the toyota accelerators. I even called my congressman today, left a message, which breaks my heart even more because i already know i probably won't be called back. I am a ford owner, and now i own a truck that i no longer trust or believe in, built by a company that i no longer trust or believe in. My family was with me and i was stuck on the beltway disable and anything could had happen. There are thousands and thousands of the same problem. I dont know what to do. Please help. This issue keeps happening over and over and seems there is no fix.

The vehicle caught on fire under the hood while being parked in the driveway for more then 10 hours or more.the local fire department arrived to extinguish the fire.the cause of the fire was not determined.the consumer notified the dealer and the manufacturer.the main body of the fire was coming from the engine. *sc

Auto stalls without warning and will not start -has occurred several time every years starting in 2003. I have had it!- i do not know where to turn to. Hopefully you will e able to do something.

Dt*:the contact stated while merging with traffic on the interstate at 55mph, a spark plug blew upward into the engine which caused the vehicle to stall and operate at a reduced speed.the contact managed to pull the vehicle to the side of the road.the vehicle was towed to a local dealer.the dealer suggested replacing the engine because of the damage sustained by the spark plug, but no repairs were made.

#4 spark plug blew out of engine head, threads destroyed.ford dealer service department told me this is a known defect in the ford 5.4 triton engine head and that ford is doing nothing about it.

Exhaust manifold bolts, rusted and broken off, right bank.

Was starting from a stop to make a left turn when driver heard a loud pop. There was a sudden loss of power and some smoke. The vehicle was towed and diagnosed. The #3 plug on the right bank has blown completely out and damaged the coil pack. A phone call to the dealer yielded no help other than we can have it towed there to be repaired, as it likely needs a new head. Some internet research and talking to other ford owners definitely suggest that this is a design problem with the alum heads blowing out spark plugs, and the #3 r plug seems to be common. This could cause fuel/vapors to be exhausted and sprayed on a hot manifold and cause a fire. It sounds like there may have already been some fires attributed to this problem. This sound like a case where the dealer/ford refuses to admit that it is a problem and fix it for owners. Before there are serious injuries from a crash or a fire, ford should be compelled to fix this issue. Its unlikely that ford will answer the call without pressure from nhtsa. There seem to be far too many of the same type of problems with this 5.4l motor for it to be a coincidence.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion. The contact stated that after opening the hood there was gasoline fumes coming from the engine and fuel was spraying all over the engine. The fuel continued to spray throughout the engine while the vehicle was on; however, when the vehicle was turned off there was a puddle of fuel under it. The dealer observed the fuel leak while performing an additional recall repair and refused to address or repair the fuel leak unless the contact paid $200 for the repair. The manufacturer stated that the fuel leak was not a part of the recall. There was routine maintenance performed on the vehicle prior to the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

In early december 2006 we were out christmas shopping when i heard a loud pop followed by a sharp decrease in power and following pop sounds. I pulled over and checked the engine. At first i just noticed the coil had blown off the head. I thought it may have just been a weird occurrence with a bad cop but later found that the spark plug had blown out of the #6 cylinder destroying the cop. The truck was towed back to my residence and the next morning i looked it over. The spark plug had blown out stripping the threads. After looking on the net, i found that this a common issue with this year and engine type.

Dt:the contact stated while driving a spark plug blew out of the engine ,causing a hole to be blown in the ignition coil.the independent repair shop personal replaced the coil pack, drilled and tapped the motor head on the number three cylinder.

Our 2002 ford excursion, with the 5.4l motor, had just turned 59,000 miles last week when my wife was driving home from picking up the kids from school. My wife calls to tell me that she had to pull to the side of the road because the truck began experiencing severe power loss and what sounded like a major exhaust leak. Upon having the vehicle towed to the local ford dealer, the service writer tells me it's most likely a blown spark plug and the repair will be in the $500 range. The service writer calls back the next day and confirms the blown spark plug and tells me it's a $725 repair. He goes on to tell me that he's been seeing a lot of this type of problem lately ("just had one last week"). After a couple of hours of haggling, i got the cost down to the original $500 range. The next day i check with my trusted independent mechanic on the problem to see if i should have him check the other seven plugs. He tells me he won't even touch the plugs because of the history with these heads and the blown spark plug problem. He goes on to tell me that the problem will most likely occur with the seven remaining cylinders. Upon conducting a quick web investigation, i learn that this is a major problem that ford is not stepping up to help resolve.help?!

Cam position sensor failure on a 2002 ford excursion with a 7.3l powerstroke at 42,800 miles.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion.while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, it burst into flames without warning.the vehicle was completely destroyed.the fire department was called to the scene and a report was filed.the representative stated that the failure originated from the engine.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 82,000.

While driving my 2002 ford excursion on the interstate at about 65 mph, i heard a thump under the hood and then my engine began to make a loud clunky sound (almost as if there were no muffler).one of the sparks plugs had blown out of the engine!luckily, my excursion was still drivable and i was within a few miles of my home and could park ituntil i could seek repairs on monday.i did not take it to the ford dealership (trust issues).i took it to tune-up 2000, where they told me the spark plug threads had stripped out causing it to blow form the engine.it had to be re-threaded, costing me $500.this puts my repair bills, for my less than four year old excursion, atover $3500 in 2005.the entire transmission had to be rebuilt this summer due to a cracked transmission case.

2002 ford triton 6.8l v10 engine in an excursion vehicle ejected an original (unchanged, factory torqued) spark plug with great force and damage in the engine compartment.coil was immediately damaged as spark plug ricocheted around the engine compartment followed by the smell of gasoline vapors and loud noise from the engine compression being directly vented from the vacated spark plug hole.the five threads of the triton spark plug hole were damaged by the force of the ejection. This should not happen with the ford engine to the customers safety given this was an original plug (at 85,000 miles).the weather at the time of the spark plug ejection was -4f, and the spark plug ejected as the vehicle was beginning to accelerate from a standstill.ford has a major and costly defect with their triton engines they sold to customers (engine replacement is estimated at $4000) and the government should enforce ford to recall and repair all spark plug holes in these aluminum engines spanning years 2000 to 2004 given they only used 5 threads in each spark plug hole, which is insufficient for an aluminum block.how is it that this widely known issue is not getting the federal government's attention given this is a demonstrated major defect and a safety issue (could have had a fire in the engine compartment if a spark from the ejected spark plug occurred).

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion.the contact received two safety recall notices for nhtsa campaign id number 07v553000 (engine and engine cooling: engine: diesel).he took the vehicle to the dealer for repair and was informed that there were no safety recalls on his vehicle.there had been no failure to date.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 104,000.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion. The contact was driving 45 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted after the failure and taken to a private mechanic. The mechanic confirmed that the camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 62,550 and the current mileage was 62,600. Crank position sensor failed without warning, vehicle motor immediately shutoff and was unable to restart.vehicle was towed to dealer for repairs.fortunately this happened in a parking lot.if this happened on the highway while towing 10,000 lbs, loss of engine power would cause a inability to control the vehicle resulting in a likely accident with possible injuries or deaths.

A sensor fails and causes engine to stop running - has happened while going 65mph on an interstate hiway - engine may restart but car is left coasting, totally without power at hiway speeds. Engine has stopped 4 times now.only last occurrance is listed here.

The spark plug popped out of the head of my 2002 ford excursion.the dealer repaired it at a cost of around $500.00.they told me they never heard of this before and i was lucky i didn't blow the motor at a $7000,00 cost. I first felt lucky when i called customer service they too said it was new to them also.many of my friends say this problem is a common one. Now i want to know how common and if so why do i have to pay for their design flaw.

Truck dies when you slow down or apply brakes.then will not remain running when put into drive, it will die immediately when taken out of park.have to start car in n gear, bring engine speed over 1500 rpm's then pop it into drive for truck to remain running. Has now happened four times.

2002 ford excursion, limited.engine stalls when coming to stop at traffic signs, signals.will restart in park but die immediately upon being put back in gear.has been to authorized ford service dealership, now 5 times, multiple testing with flight recorders, multiple part replacements, still no appropriate resolve.currently back at dealership for another probable excuse, without definitive correction.

I'm the original owner of my ford excursion 2002; while driving down a 40 mph road (with the original motor and parts) the spark plug popped out of the motor block!!!this was under normal easy driving conditions in a very well maintained automobile.this is a very expensive repair on something that to me seems very defective!

While traveling, the owner has noticed that the headlights are not aimed correctly. When approaching oncoming traffic the headlights blind drivers. The dealerships has service the vehicle three times with no change in condition.

Engine performance suddenly became erratic and very rough running. Immediately turned around and went home/ had towed to ford dealer. Dealership ran $250 diagnostic test but came back clean. I was directed to change engine oil as air might have gotten into the fuel injection lubing system along with changing the fuel filter. On performance of fuel filter replacement, technician directed my attention to what appeared to be small pieces of metal trapped in and on top of filter element. Mechanic said this is very common problem with metal the result of delamination of the inner lining of the fuel tank in ford diesels. Internet research reveals many many complaints to both ford and nhtsa over this issue. This creates a very dangeroussituation due to loss of power steering, brakes, and trailer brakes which could easily result in loss of lives. I have complained to ford and my complaint has been duly noted and registered.

I own a 2002 excursion. Never in water or an accident.85,000 miles onlyserviced by ford, lincoln dealerships.lost 'brakes'. Brakes went to the floor. It turns out all the brake fluid lines(not the hoses) and the fuel line is 'rotted' out. Called ford, case#[xxx] .declined to do anything because vehicle out of 6 year warranty.dealership said 'this never should have happened'.we need help, cost of replacing all close to $2000.i am the original owner.can you help? we have a 2001 ford van, 175,000 miles. Interior lights will not go out.this started happening out of nowhere one day.it is a serious safety issue for night driving.i was told it needs an instrument cluster panel and door latch with estimated cost of over $700.00.ford said it's not under warranty.this vehicle was purchased new.i suspect this is a defect in many excursions.i have been driving 38 years and have never experienced or heard of a problem of this nature.this is not a wear and tear issue.i believe it is a defective part.also, power seat on drivers side has now stopped working.

While driving 60 mph consumer heard a clanking noise and feltvibration. Consumer pulled the vehicle off the freeway, andtowed it to the dealer, whoinformed the consumer that transfer case was separating from the transmission.

My husband was buckling our 3 year old in her car seat in our 2002 excursion and the seat belt detached from the frame of the car.left 2nd seat: seat belt bolt (location-retractor attached at frame) was either not properly tightened, locked tight improperly applied or nut is ill-fitting causing nut to separate from bolt, possibly related to pivoting retractor design. Seat belt detached at retractor and became unusable. Fortunately discovered while car parked and buckling child into booster seat. If accident would have occurred prior, seat belt would have separated and failed, and child would have been injured or killed!locktight was re-applied and nut was re-attached to bolt at proper torque.

A child was able to release the seat belt latch plate from buckle mechanism. The buckle retracted too quickly to be grabbed by owner of vehicle, and became lost/stuck in the retractor, and was hidden.

Complaint received via e-mail. In our truck, the left rear seat belt retractor bolt loosened and detached of its own accord while buckling child in booster seat. Car was driven directly to dealer for inspection. Service manager verified mechanism had not been altered. Original lock-tight had not held bolt, perhaps not enough lock-tight applied. He applied more lock-tight and re-bolted seat belt retractor. Seemed to be holding up fine. How many other bolts were left not tightened on unsuspected excursions, and were vulnerable to detaching with eventual use or in an accident? it was dreadful to think that just minutes before detaching.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion. The contact stated that while traveling 55 mph and applying the brakes, there was an abnormal noise heard from the braking system. The brake pedal became stuck and the vehicle would not slow down. The contact continued to pump the brakes and was able to coast to a stop. The contact later parked the vehicle and noticed that a fire had started from under the vehicle.the contact was able to extinguish the fire however, the transmission and central computer was destroyed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where the transmission computer module, transmission and the brake booster was replaced. The dealer advised that the brake booster leaked onto the transmission and the front drive shaft, causing the vehicle to catch on fire. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer three weeks prior to fire and there was no indication of a potential failure.the failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 190,000.

While driving at a slow speed a car made a sudden stop in front of no matter how hard i step on the brakes the truck did not stop.

I seem to be having a braking problem with my 2002 ford excursion. I have had to replace brake pads and rotors on a number of instances. It seem to be caused by the brake caliper slide brackets which prevent the proper caliper travel when activated. This was a complaint i have addressed since my purchase of the vehicle.the problem gives the vehicle an uneven brake activation, which causes poor handling while braking. The dealer say that it is not a warranty issue.the dealer has replaced 2 calipers, but each time i'm expected to pay for pads and rotors. I'm an ex garage owner, and ex-nys vehicle inspection licensed mechanic. I have on 5-6 instances replaced pads and rotors due to this problem with the caliper slide system. Each of these times, after pulling the brakes apart, and cleaning all surfaces, and lubing the sliders before reinstalling, after witch all parts worked as designed. This only seem to get you to another 2000 to 3000 miles before it is required again. In most cases costing me another set of brake pads, and also at least one new rotor. This situation has been severe on 2 occasions, while 30 miles or more from home, each time, the caliper stuck, and ground into the rotor. As i drove the vehicle, the brake pad pulled from its proper location, and fell out, leaving me with no brakes at all. This was on the rear of the vehicle. I had to be towed. I think this brake system needs to be reviewed, and don't think a brake system should need to be addressed with every 2000 miles or so.

All the lines arelike brand new.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Lost control of vehicle resulting in rollover crash. Exact defect uncertain (happened very quickly) but probably right rear wheel locked with inability to steer vehicle as result.also, several month history of difficulty with brakes for months with identifiable cause despite 4 visits to ford mechanics.

While driving, the vehicle jerked and the abs light illuminated. Also when braking, the vehicle went to the right.

2002 ford excursion.two instance of the vehicle not responding to pressure applied to the brake pedal at low speed.vehicle continues to roll with very little stopping action.taken to dealership where nothing was found.*nlm

After purchasing a used vehicle from internet auto sales in reno, nevada, the brakes were not working correctly.the brakes pulled the vehicle violently to the right.the dealer replaced the calipers and pads and turned the rotors and told me the problem was solved.after test driving the vehicle, the brakes had the same problem.the vehcile was sent to the local lithia dealer and they ended upreplacing the abs sensor once.after that the vehcile did not improve.so, the vehcile went back to the dealer and the dealer took the brake system apart and could not find anything wrong with it.they returned the vehicle and soon as i drove it, the brakes failed to operate correctly.they took the vehcile back and they replaced some more brake parts, but it did not solve the proble,.in fact, the problem got worse.now, the brakes are pulling both left and right.there is no rhyme or eason as to why it will pull one way or the other.the vehicle is unsafe and i have asked the dealer to purchase the vehicle back because it is a lemon, but they refuse to buy the vehicle back.my only option is to continue to take it back to the dealer and hopefully, they will replace everything so that the brakes will work correctly.this is the same problem i am having with my fordf-350 super duty.

While applying brakesvehicle will not stop.consumer will shiftvehicle in park to come to a complete stop.dealership ship is aware ofproblem.

My problem is the truck has warped 4 sets of front rotors in 80,000 miles.it has yet to even wear the rear rotors.each time it has warped the rotors the pads were replaced.the first 2 sets of rotors were from ford.i then purchased high performance slotted rotor with special pads.this made no difference to the warping problem.i have talked to other owners of excursions and they are having the same problem.ford says (dealer & factory rep) this is normal wear. My employment puts me on the road approximately 6 to 8 hours per day.i have owned a ford bronco full size, ford f150 full size, dodge ram 2500, nissan, plus several cars.this is the only time that i have ever had a warping problem.i feel the excursion is putting too much pressure on the front brakes and/or not much on the rear.this seems to make the truck harder to stop in quick stops - thus may cause me to have an accident due to inability to stop in time.

Front rotors rusted in center area between rotor brake surface. At 30,000 miles my 2002 ford excursion started to shake violently when braking at speeds above 40 mph. Luck for us we were driving in lower speed conditions in residential traffic. I inspected thebrake pads and rotors for problems and found large amounts of rust decay in the rotors causing thewarping to the rotors. I have serviced the brake system and replaced the front rotors and pads with excellent results. I have kept these rotors if any one should like to further look into this situation. We live in the desert with very low rain or snow. Now salts are used in my home area. I have never seen such corrosion to and important safety system. If this is a problem that could cause harm to others i would like to get the word out. I regularly respond to accidents and vehicle equipment failures as firefighter/medic. Regardless of fault it is a professional duty to at least make this notification.

I started experiencing vibrating in my steering wheel during braking several months ago.the vibration continued to get worse.i had the brakes checked and i found out that all four rotors were warped on the vehicle.the vehicle only has 27000 miles on it and the brake pads are in excellent condition.through research i found that many other people have had rotor problems at a very early stage on their ford excursions.ford refuses to acknowledge a problem with the rotors or repair the problem at their cost.

Brake rotors warp excessively. Just purchased used vehicle, had to have the rotors turned and brake system serviced after 5,000 miles. Vehicle would vibrate excessively upon application of brake. Ford service representatives that inspected the brake system stated that the pads looked almost new. In doing research on the internet this exact scenario seems to be playing out with 2000 - 2004 excursion models. Other owners claim to have the brake serviced and rotors turned every 15000 - 25000 miles. It seems that the rotors are not adequate to handle the weight of the vehicle with out needing excessive service on a frequent basis.

While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle jerked and vibrated uncontrollably. However, the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the rotors needed to be replaced.please provide further details.

On 8-25-03 , i took my 2002 ford excursion in to berryville ford in berryville arkansas because the vehicle would not stop in a reasonable distance. If you are going downhill and you have to brake suddenly and hard the brakes get hot and you lose them alltogether.this vehicle has only 27,774 miles. It has been in the shop three different times and thet r&r the brake boosterthey r&r the hydraulic control unit . The brake shoes have been replaced twicethe rotors have been resurfaced and this vehicle will not stop . If you brake more than three tiomes the brakes will overheat and then you cannot stopat all.i feel this vehicle is unsafe to drive.it is currently sittingin the yard at the berryville dealership.the dealership cannot get authorization from ford to change the rotors .this vehicle was purchased at berryville ford and i was told by the service manager and the dealership manager off the record to take it somewhere else. They don"t know what is wrong.the engine is a v-10 at 20mph you may get it stoppedbut if you have a panic stop it will not stop.

Vehicle was backed into driveway, parked with engine off.driver intended to relocate vehicle about 6 feet forward, never enter street.driver started engine, and with right foot on brake pedal placed transmission in drive.driver released brake pedal and allowed vehicle to move forward to intended parking spot where he applied the brakes with the right foot.the vehicle did not stop, driver placed both feet on the brake pedal but vehicle still would not stop, rolled into the street and struck a passing vehicle.vehicle was towed to dealer, but dealer could not find anything wrong.ford consumer appeals board was contacted, but agreed with the dealer.vehicle owner contacted a private mechanic and was told that the most likely failure that could cause the symptoms experienced was the power booster unit.vehicle was towed to insurance company lot where it will be examined for possible subrogation with the manufacturer.owner has pictures of the driveway and sidewalk showing tire marks leading right to the crash site.

The contact owns a 2002 ford excursion.while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle veered to the right without warning.the vehicle was taken to a dealer and they stated that the steering control arm detached from the frame.the current and failure mileages were 95,000.

While backing the vehicle i felt a pop and then there was no steering control. I looked under the vehicle and found that the tie rod connection to the pitman arm had snapped.

When brakes are applied and vehicle has stopped, driver is unable to turnsteering wheel, consumer contacted dealer and was informed that it was normal.. Consumer stated it is very hard to turn wheel, it feels like the steering is binding, wheel can not be turned more than 1/4 turn right or left when brake is on and vehicle is stopped.

Cruise control would not engage. Icon on dash just flashed when" set "was depressed. I tried all cruise switches to verify if it was a stuck switch. Pressing cruise" on "and "coast" switches on steering wheel causes horn to sound. Dealer said the brake switch was the cause due to a missing ground buss. The vehicle uses ground switching so the horn should be on all the time. The horn still sounds when switches are depressed. I feel cause is in the steering wheel hub and am concerned this can effect the air bag deployment.

At low speeds or when stopped with the brakes applied, the streering capabilities are extremely limited or non existant. (in other words, i can't turn the steering wheel under these conditions) and it happens regularly - everyday!!!

While driving 70 mph consumer activated both rear windows, as soon as the windows were lowered, the vehicle started to shake violently, it was difficult to control vehicle, when the windows were closed the shaking stopped.. Consumer contacted the manufacture and was informed that all the excursions are that way.

My 2002 ford excursion had a total brake failure resulting in a near fatal situation. When the vehicle was towed to the ford dealership, they found a manufacturing defect. The plastic wheel well liner on the front left wheel was positioned against the metal brake line from the abs pump and from the vehicle motion the liner had worn a hole in the metal line causing total failure of the brake system. This is a very serious design defect that needs immediate attention.

Large patches ofpaint topcoat peeling from vehicle roof, absolutely no evidence of primer having bonded/ adhering to separated topcoat, peeled paint is identical on both sides, obviously primer intended to integrate topcoat with substrate was faulty and not acceptable.

2002 ford excursion.rear glass shattered and fell on the ground when our child attempted to close the rear glass and the two rear gates in the incorrect order.this is a design defect and poses a significant risk to humans should the rear glass fall onto a person while attempting to close the rear glass and gates. The defect is that the rear glass and the lower gates are designed such that if they are operated in the incorrect fashion, with the upper glass lowered first and then the lower gates attempted to be swung closed, the lower gates impinge with a very long torque arm on the glass of the upper window, and the resultant force literally causes the upper glass to shatter.the shattered "safety glass" then falls on the ground at the operator's feet, or worse, some of the small and very sharp glass fragments fly horizontally and land on the operator or occupants. In our case, a adolescent child was the operator, and luckily avoided injury.there were three other children inside the rear compartment of the vehicle, and glass showered into the compartment and onto their legs, but no injuries were sustained. The manufacturer has been contacted, but there is no recourse at this point.the manufacturer has no recall in effect. Curiously, i personally know of four other such incidents in the town in which i live, and those folks also found no recourse with the ford dealer or the manufacturer.

While driving 50 mph and rolling over bumps/pot holes, and rough surfaces, it causes vehicle to virate severely and lose steering control. Dealer andmanufacturer had not been notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.

The vehicle experienced electrical and suspension problems.the suspension problem caused the tires to wear prematurely.please provide any additional information.

The front passenger tire blew out.

The consumer received letter regarding recall # 03t0020000. However, bridgestone/firestone has not cooperated with the consumer. The right rear passenger tire blew out. Chunks of the tire damaged underneath the vehicle, and ford said there was nothing they can do. Please provide any further information.

I drive a new 2002 ford excursion and with very low miles the wear of the tires is unacceptable.they are wearing fast and uneven and make noise.please look into these tires as i have 2 year old twins and a 3 year old that travel with me everyday.thanks.
