Was involved in a rear end collision. This accident covered my 2001 ford excursion from the center front of the car to the passenger side of the car and the air bag did not deploy. The car was destroyed in the crash.

Front impact at 40 mph, vehicle rolled, then slid into a ditch. Consumer suffered spine injuries, vehicle was totalled.neither airbag deployed.

Consumer was sitting at a light when another driver traveling at 50 mph rear ended the consuners vehicle.none of the airbags deployed.consumer stated that her vehicle was pushed into the vehicle sitting in front of hers and totalled that vehicle, there were 4 injuries in the accident.*scc

While driving at 40mph as involved ina front end collision andnone of the air bags deployed on impact. There was major damage to front of vehicle. Dealer contacted.

While drivingthe vehicle was rear ended.as a result the driverlost control of the vehicle and hit some trees.none of the air bags deployed.the dealer has been notified. *nlm

While driving at 55 mph hit another vehicle and air bagsdid not deploy.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. The contact stated that the front driver's side heated seat warmer overheated without warning. The contact mentioned that the wires burned through the seat cushion, emitting smoke. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the heated seat element needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 140,000.

Cps, cam position sensor, failed in traffic.intermittent hiccup while driving, stopped in traffic facing downhill truck died.re-started and continued with intermittent stop/start for several more miles.replace with new.no more problems.

Drove to local high school around 7:30am and returned home around 7:45 am about a hour later i was notified by my neighbor that my ford excursion was on fire, the fire flames were coming from the engine compartment. The excursion was park in the driveway.

Excursion was bought 7-01 approximately 3months after purchase head lamp switch broke off.took truck into dealer and was told this was not covered under warranty and would be 190.00 to fix.upon research found that the 2000 model excursion had a recall for this same problem [nhtsa recall no. 01v075/ford recall no. 01s09] the part no. For the 2000 and 2001 has been replaced.it would be logical to me if the part number for the 2000 excursion and the 2001 excursion are the same then they both should be recalled.in addition the passenger front and side door do not lock when internal button is depressed.the interior lights do not shut off if the back hatch is opened and moisture is present.drivers seat is stuck does not go forward or back, motor works seat will not move.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle caught on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

We have the exact part that is in recall for several other vehicles that ford produces and is causing fire under the hood. When we took our excursion to a ford dealer they deactivated the speed control deactivation switch.this was done because we also have some oil leak in our cam shaft position sensor which was recalled and the two problem can cause a fire. Even though this is the exact part that is recalled in other vehicles they are not recalling it in the larger trucks.so now i have no cruise control feature because of the deactivation.speed control deactivation switch, ford just deactivated it since my vehicle is not on the list. Same part, same #,

I have a 2001 excursion and the driver's side seat belt pops free by it's self several times during a couple of hours of driving. Dealer said it wasn't covered. I also had the windows & door locks stop working back in 2006. It needed a new gem module and some fuse panel work (due to a leak in the windshield seal from the factory). I finally saved up enough money to get everything fixed-- roughly $1100.00. The rep. From the window company said he has seen several like this himself.

Electrical socket inside the vehicle will come on and off intermittently.

We purchased a 2001 ford diesel excursion in february 2005. There were frequent mishaps with various electrical components (e.g. Blown fuses, dash lights, heated seats malfunctioning, back-up signals).in january 2009, the excursion caught fire in our driveway; per the insurance inspection, it was a total loss.today we heard about a recall due to an electrical problem that could lead to a fire...we're concerned.

While driving a powerstroke diesel ford truck, the "cam position sensor" can fail without warning. This shuts the engine off and your power brakes and steering.very hard to control. The ford dealers don't always diagnose like in my case i left the dealership and it shut off in traffic.ipaid $800.00 for a repair i didn't need.i have been researching this since march and have discovered that this is the most common part failure on the 7.3 ford powerstroke diesel engine. The same basic design is used from 1994 to 2003.

While parked vehicle caught on fire.prior to the fire there was a wire smell in the cabin per consumer.the morning of the incident, the consumer reported an odor to the dealer in which no appointments were available.(wire related per inspection) *scc

A passerby knocked on our front door letting us know our 2001 ford excursion parked in the driveway was smoking. We called the fire department and while waiting for them, disconnected the battery cables to shut off any power to the vehicle.the fire department investigators determined that the fire was caused by the same cruise control switch that has been causing problems with other makes of ford trucks and suv's.although we have been told by fire investigators and ford parts managers that the module is the same design/part used in all of the other vehicles that have caught on fire, ford is not assuming any responsibility for repairs and has not included our model in its recalls.

Spark plug blew out of engine. Possible defect in casting..?? was told this is not uncommon but ford refused to cover their known defect. Cost me over $5,000 to replace engine.

The approximate date above is the first time my excursion blew out a spark plug while on a family trip in pa.since then, it has blown 2 more in separate instances, the most recent being on the highway this past sunday.the first incident i was towing and putting more strain on the engine, but the 2nd and 3rd incidents no towing was involved.i have read about and several mechanics have also told me the ford triton engines are known for this problem.it seems ford should do the right thing and fix the problem.

Spark plug blew out of engine. Possible defect in casting..?? was told this is not uncommon but ford refused to cover their known defect. Cost me over $6,000 to replace engine.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. While traveling at 70 mph, the speed began to reduce. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that thread gave way on the motor head. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, he heard a loud noise in the engine. The vehicle then stalled and the contact confirmed that the engine was blown. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the dealer advised that the oil was not entering the engine as it should have, which caused the failure to occur. The engine was replaced. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 180,000.

The spark plug blew out of the engine.this causes damage to the head and blow the ignition coil to bits.after looking online this appears to be a very common problem.

A spark plug blew out of the engine.while i realize that there was no collateral damage this time, my truck has nine more opportunities to do it again.my daughter and 4 year old grandson were stranded on the side of the road in 32 degree temps.her cell phone had died and she had to walk to a phone (child in tow).there is enormous proof that this is a rampant problem with ford engines and has cost consumers thousands of dollars to repair yet you choose not to hold them liable and have even allowed them to cover up a problem.why?http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/ford_spark.htmlhttp://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/05/ford_techs_spark_plugs.html

#7 spark plug blew out of the spark plug hole.spark plugs were last replaced by a local ford dealer in 2011.internet research shows this failure and defective cylinder heads to be common in this engine, v-10 6.8l.

I was driving down the highway when the01 ford excursion began intermittently losing power. As i began to pull of the road the engine died completely and would not restart. After leaving the truck to sit for 8 hours, i went back and it started up fine. My mechanic said no error codes were showing on the ecm. After research on the internet,i figured out it was the camshaft position sensor and had it replaced. No more problems since then.apparently this is a huge issue. There are entire message boards filled with complaints about this problem.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 07v553000 (engine and engine cooling:engine:diesel) and was repaired. After the repair, the contact was driving approximately 65 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

I have had two spark plugs eject from the cylinder head on my ford excursion.the first plug ejected about three months ago.on the 24th of february 2008 a second spark plug ejected the cylinder head.the first problem was repaired at a ford dealership, costing me $350.00 to repair.i am currently waiting for a ford representative to contact me about the second failure.the reason this is happening is because there are only approximately three threads tapped into the head to hold the pug in.a typical cylinder head usually has at least 1/2 of an inch or about 7-8 threads to hold the plug in.this is, in my opinion, an engineering defect with ford being liable for the defect from factory.there is a safety hazard associated with this.when the spark plug ejects fuel vapor is blown out of the spark plug hole during the compression stroke.if the coil pack comes apart, as was the case in the first failure, that fuel vapor has the potential to ignite and cause a fire.

Sparkplug blew out of the engine head while driving resulting in a loss of power and very noisy condition. This is the second time in 6 months that i have had this same problem. The last time was october of 2007. The two incidents do not involve the same cylinder of the engine but they are on the same head. The repair will cost about $500 dollars and cost me the loss of my vehicle for 2 days. This is an issue with all ford 5.4l and 6.8l engines. My brother has a 5.4 v-8 and has had the same problem twice in his vehicle. Ford is aware of the concern but refuses to do anything to help because it involves somewhere around 17 million engines and is not cost effective. In my estimation, if ford does not want to issue a recall, which i can understand because it would be an astronomical amount of work and money, then they should at least be required to help with the cost of the repair.the issue is caused by the designof the aluminum head and the amount of threads. Only about three threads hold the plug in the head.

We have a 2001 excursion, apparently according to the local dealerships owner, it is a common problem for plug blowouts and head blowouts in these v10 vehicles.if this was the case and ford motor company actually makes a special repair kit for these issues, why were the consumers not notified of this defect by recall notice?this issue will cost upwards of 300$ of which we do not have to fix, due to fords error in reporting this defect. We spoke directly to the owner of a local ford motor company and were told that this is a common safety issue.

Turned car off, went into school.when we came out it was on fire.vehicle is total loss, items lost not covered by insuranceno vehicle to drive as insurance has still not settled claim.

On aug 29,2008 my 2001 ford excursion caught on fire i was never contacted my a ford dealer or my insurance company that there were a recall on ford suv my suv are total lost due to this fire as i look under ford fire recall there are a recall on ford suv due to fire.

When the consumer applies the brakes, the vehicle will vibrate and the pedal will pulsate.the dealership is aware of the problem. Consumer also stated the windshield wiper blade was missing which caused the wiper arm to break, also vehicle was pulling to the left when braking, the dealer performed suspension work on the vehicle, vehicle was experiencing a coolant leak, dealer replaced the radiator hose.

2001 ford excursion 5.4l triton v8. At 89,000 spark plug blew out of cylinder. In shop now for fix. I read it is a huge issue with ford.

2001 ford excursion. Consumer states the spark plug blew out of the head of the engine damaging the threads.*tgw

I have a ford excursion 2001 v10 with 123ki was sitting at astop light with very little engine torque at the time when i had a "spark plug blow out"the spark plug was blown out of their head and in turn took out the coil.. When this happened it filled the engine compartment with gas fumes and the spark plug was still attached to the cable and providing a spark. With the spark i feel there could have been a fire in the engine compartment but because i was able to turn off the truck as soon as it happened there was no fire. Ford knows of this problem because they have a repair kit with a insert to put in the head to repair it. The ford dealer repaired it at a cost of $344.18 but i was told that this is common in most of the triton engines ford has. I think there could have been a fire under the hood had it not been that i was sitting at a light and turned it off as soon as it happened.

Ford - spark plug blow out: yesterday my 2001 excursion with a 5.4 triton v8 engine blew a spark plug right out of the engine. It blew out with such force, the boot and cap/ coil snapped in two (the screw is still on tight). The treads of the old plug have no (none, zero) signs of damage, so how does a spark plug that is screwed in just blow out. Our local mechanic states "this is common on many ford triton engines. The head heats up and expands, since there are minimal threads holding the plug in place, during the combustion cycle, the plug just blows completely out." i thought he was giving me a load of non-sense, thus simply preparing me for the sure to be huge up-coming bill. However, once i researched this on-line, it only took just a few minutes to discover many, many people have experienced the same thing, on several different year, make and model vehicles involving ford's triton engines.i have always been a ford guy. I dealt with the cruise control issue and such but this one takes the cake. During these harsh economic times ford needs to step up and do the right thing or they will never see me, any of my relatives or friends at any of their dealerships again! we will go elsewhere and let ford learn a thing or two about a very valuable lesson regarding simple economics called "supply and demand" or lack thereof for any of ford's products (cars, trucks, t-shirts, logo stickers, etc). Ford owners experiencing this same issue need to stand up, be heard and more importantly to have this problem fixed by those responsible for creating the issue - ford!

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion.the contact stated that the vehicle would fail to start occasionally.in addition, while driving between 60-70 mph, the vehicle would stall.the failure occurs during normal driving or changing lanes.sometimes the vehicle will immediately restart.the vehicle is difficult to pull to the shoulder due to the lack of power steering and brakes when the failure occurs.there are no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the failure.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not diagnose the failure.the vehicle is currently at the dealer.the failure mileage was 100,000.

My 2001 ford excursion ejected a spark plug from the cylinder head. This is the second time that this has happened. After research, i have learned that this is a commong defect.

While driving on a two-lane country road at approximately 40 mph, a loud exhaust sound started coming from the engine.a visual inspection revealed that a spark plug had been blown completely out of the engine and the coil and wire had been damaged.truck must be towed to dealer for repair.online research reveals this to be an extremely common problem which the dealer has failed to address or remedy.

I was driving home from a trip, 70 mph on interstate and engine makes a loud bang. I pull over my husband checks under the hood. The coil is on top of the engine sparking. At further inspection the spark plug has blown out of the engine. My husband is able to get the plug back in the engine so we can make it home. Nothing has been done to fix this problem, can't see paying ford $3000.00 to replace head with the same faulty part.

While driving the vehicle at city speeds the vehicle blew out a spark plug.

Ford triton 6.8l v10 spark plug ejectionford insists the problem is due to improper torquing of new plugs or any number of other reasons. However many people have had the original factory spark plugs eject from the engine, which indicates there is a defect with the engine & cylinder head design.

Own 3 ford vehicles.this year, 2 out of 3 have had blown spark plugs.e350 was repaired and seems to be running well.excursion not so lucky and now, it looks like needs a new head.extremely frustrating due to the low mileage on this vehicle 51000 when plug blew.

While driving down the roadheard big pop and lots of noise. Spark plug on #4 cylinder blew out on v-10 on 2001 ford excursion. Had heli coil put in sparkplug hole.spark plug on #7 cylinder blew out andhad heli coil put in,but started leaking again. Was told could not fix with heli coil andhad to replace head.

Consumer stated while driving, the camshaft sensor failed, causing the engine to stop.

Consumer stated the vehicle would cut off without warning.

2001 ford excursion shuts off while driving or stopped.it was taken to local dealer and was told there were no recalls and that everything was fine.this happen on average 2 a week.from that point to present.the vehicle is a psd and had its csp replace several times.this problem has happen while stopped at stop light, driving 65mph, pulling a trailer and is now putting needless persons at risk.i have personally replaced the cps, the valve cover gaskets, the pcm has been checked and the dealer still states there is nothing wrong with the excursion.

I have had a total of four spark plugs blow out of my 2001 ford excursion, v-10 in the last two years. I have had my mechanic repair them with a helicoil kit, but i recently had the helicoil come out on a defective spark plug. Now my mechanic is looking for a kit that will repair the repair.

My 2001 ford excursion with 82,000 miles, blew a spark plug out of the rear passenger side cylinder.the dealer states that the aluminum head failed and that there are no threads left in the hole.they also state that the only fix is to replace the head and it is not covered under my extended warranty that i purchased from ford.

Multiple times over the last several months my 2001 ford excursion with a 7.3-liter diesel engine has cut out intermittently.if i am traveling at highway speeds it will cut out briefly and then resume running.if on the other hand i am idling up to a traffic light and it cuts out, it must be restarted using the ignition switch.this is a potentially hazardous situation given there is no power steering or brakes available in these instances.i noticed a report in my local newspaper today (3/5/06) explaining this exact issue with other 2001 excursions.

Vehicle stalls without prior warning.there's no consistent situation i have noticed, has stalled at highway speeds, as well as at a stop light.the problem was rather sporadic when i first noticed some time ago, but is becoming more frequent.i have not attempted any repairs yet.

Cps, cam position sensor, failed in traffic.intermittent hiccup while driving, stopped in traffic facing downhill truck died.re-started and continued with intermittent stop/start for several more miles.replace with new.no more problems.

2001 ford excursionwith 7.3l power stroke and automatic transmission.on 11/06/2005 the engine died without warning with my wife driving along a remote country road along a river.the immediate loss of power brakes and power steering resulted in a partial loss of control that caused the truck to leave the pavement and nearly plunge into the river. The check engine light came on.the truck restarted, but there was a profound loss of power rendering it undriveable. The truck was towed 45 miles to the nearest ford dealer where a sensor was replaced and we were charged $1000 for a tune-up.the service manager told us that we should use unleaded gasoline to augment the octane in the diesel fuel to prevent a future failure.on 3/9/2006, after just 3000 miles, the truck stalled and the check engine light came on again, this time while towing a loaded horse trailer and with my 4 year old twins in the vehicle.again, power steering and power brakes were lost and the truck became extremely difficult to control. I halted the vehicle before it went fully over the edge of the road and into the river.had my wife been driving it is unlikely we would have survived.

Cam position sensor failure on 2001 ford excursion with 7.3l turbo diesel for the 3rd time in 2 years.have replace the part twice before at a parts cost of $195.00.ford came out with a new part number and now it costs $30 but they cant get them in.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion limited. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled, similar to nhtsa campaign id number: 07v553000 ( engine and engine cooling:engine:diesel).the dealer was contacted and stated that there were no recalls on his vehicle. The contact was waiting for a diagnostic testing appointment.the manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to call nhtsa.the current and failure mileages were approximately 98,000.

Driving down rural road, 60 mph in our 2001 ford excursion diesel. Engine just died. No brakes, limited steering. Turns out to be a part called a cps (camshaft position sensor). According to my local dealer this is a common failure and when they fail it is sudden and complete. Had this occurred anywhere that would have required me to maneuver and all, it would have been bad.

While driving through a construction zone on a two lane road with concrete barriers, my ford truck equipped with a 7.3l powerstroke diesel engine, suddenly quit, causing me to have to coast to a stop with no engine power.luckily, i had enough momentum to take a off-ramp and get off the road.but this sudden failure of the cam position sensor or cps could have caused a serious accident.failure of this part is common on powerstrokes and it shuts off all fuel to the engine.please investigate.

After purchasing my 2001 excursion with power stroke diesel i had problems with a hunting and sometimes surging when starting the engine.after two trips to the dealer and them stationing that there was "no" problem, the vehicle shut down while driving three days later.luckily i wasn't in traffic i was just getting ready to pull out onto the road.after having it towed to a different dealer (due to location) i was informed that the cam pick-up sensor was bad and there was a service bulletin on this.i returned about two days later complaining that the hunting and surging was still present.again, i was told that there appeared to be "no" problems. (they plugged the computer into it and got no codes. But, did not drive or run the vehicle.)now three dealers, less warranty and months later i'm still having lack of power, acceleration and poor fuel consumption problems.but, still being told by the dealer that nothing is wrong.finally i took the excursion in to the dealer while is was demonstrating the problem.the service tech agreed that "this isn't right".they replaced the fuel injector on number 8 cylinder. And the turbo charger under the warranty.the vehicle still exhibits lack of acceleration on take off and now shuttering when first placed into reverse.service tech states that it is the torque converter and that is not covered under warranty now and will cost approximately $3000.the cost of the vehicle new is $50,000 i would think the engine and transmission would last more than 40,000 miles?ford is ignoring and not standing behind a manufacture defect that is noted on multiple excursions and f-250's.*la

2001 ford excursion shuts off while driving.

Whenbrakes are applied on aninclinevehiclewill stall. Vehiclehas been todealer on one occasion, and dealerwas unable to duplicate the problem. Feel free to provide any further information.

2001 ford excursion:accelerated after turning a corner and a spark plug blew out.had been highway driving for 60 miles prior to the failure.the engine still ran but did not run smoothly.the threads were damaged and a new plug could not be inserted.the head is being replaced with a new head from the dealer at an approximate cost of $3800.nm

Driving on level interstate highway with cruise control set at 70 mph.heard small explosion similar to tire blowout.immediately pulled over to side of road and checked engine.found that the #3 spark plug had blown out of the cylinder head.had vehicle towed home.no repairs made at this time due to holidays.

I have a 2001 ford excursion with 52,000 miles. I was 2 blocks from home when i heard this loud pop, then this loud clapping noise from under the hood.i immediately shut the vehicle off and had it towed to the dealership that i purchased it from and have had all the regular maintenence done at.(morrie's buffalo ford, buffalo, mn)the 3rd spark plug on the rh side of the engine blewout, and took the cylinder head threads with it.$3000 to repair.the ford inspector refused to admit fault on ford's part, yet the service manager at the dealership told me that the plug blowout was no fault of mine.purchased an additional $2000 bumper to bumper extended warranty that wouldn't cover it either.it is still at the dealership as i'm trying to figure out how to get ford motor company to take responsibility for a faulty product and fix like they should.i have filed a formal complaint with the ford motor company.i've also been doing some pretty heavy research over the last week, and have found hundreds of identical incidents.it's about time ford is forced to be responsible.

Ford excursion 2001 v10ford v10 engine oil coagulates due to poor oil flow and seezes engine.one mechanic told me he had at least ten on his lot with the same problem.the only solution given is replace the entire engine. An expensive solution.i have read many testomonials on the web of people complaining about this same situation. Hopefully i can get some help with a recall or class action suit.

Blast from engine at 45 mph while driving on snowy/icy bridge christmas night 2007.no where to pull over.bounced off snow pile and with momentum crossed over bridge.still in traffic and several near misses later highway patrol found me and diverted traffic. Spark had blown right out of engine but still attached to coil.gas exiting and ignited with each spark firing.vehicle now at ford dealer. Greater than $4,000 repair.service writer says spark plugs blowing out of engine and disabling engine with possible fire has been common on 2000-2005 ford truck engines.ford needs to be pressed for recall.not enough threads to hold spark plugs in long term on original equipment.common expectation of serviceability is that spark plugs and ignition fire stay inside engines.consumer affairs web sight list hundreds of complaints on this issue.

Consumer was traveling on the highway and without prior warningvehicle shutdown. Vehicle was towed todealership.

2001 ford excursion v10.exhaust manifold bolts breaking on both banks of engine.rust and corrosion looks to be the cause.vehicle has only 61,000 miles on it.this is a big problem with ford v10 engines as there are many instances that can be found on the internet.exhaust gases can and do leak because of the bolts breaking.this releases un-treated exhaust gas into the atmosphere, hydrocarbons and nitrates of oxygen are the worst and normally would be treated by the catalytic converter.ford will not repair the condition under any warranty.i believe that this should be a recall as the effect of the problem is a public health issue.

Consumer has taken vehicle to the dealership on two occasions concerning exhaust clamp cracking and falling off.mechanic was able to fix the problem.

Poor paint job ,paint is cracking due to a defect in either paint or primer

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. While driving at an unknown speed, the exterior lights failed without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v352000 (exterior lighting). The failure mileage was 198,000.

Consumer stated that the knob that turned on and off the head lamps broke off.consumer spoke to the dealership that he take the vehicle, and was told that this happened a lot. Also, there was a recall on the 2000 model, but not on the 2001 model, altoughboth had the same design.

Truck has been into ford twice, with a third appointment on 10/30/01, systems have failed 4 times now while vehicle has been traveling at highway speed. Headlights and running lights have not been on to notice if they to are affected.

Headlight switch knob snapped off.called ford parts counter at my local dealership and was advised that this was occuring a lot in 2001 model excursion and f250 models which both use the same switch. Employee stated that he had received numerous calls requesting the knob.searched the internet and found that the 2000 model excursion had a recall for this same problem [nhtsa recall no. 01v075/ford recall no. 01s09] the 2000 model and the 2001 model appear to me to have the same headlight switch as the reacall notification did not start until march 26, 2001.*la

Smelled diesel fuel like odor when i opened the hood at home, but i did not see any problem.traveled to work (15 miles) and left a pool of diesel in the parking lot.fuel was streaming from behind the oil pan.idiot smoking threw a cigarette in the fuel and managed to start a small fire that i extinguished with an extinguisher from work before it burned the truck.i opened the message boards at home and it turns out that all of the diesel excursions are affected.a bracket is rubbing the passenger side fuel line and wears through causing fuel to pour out over the hot motor and header.fuel line replaced after tow.

The vehiclehad ongoing problems with the transmission, brakes, and air tire. While driving a noise was heard coming from the transmission. Thevehicle was taken to the dealer twice, and the problem could not be determined.

On sept. 29,2014iapproached stop light and applied brakes, engine rpm increased very high and brakes would not hold vehicle - had to put it in neutral and engine rpm continue to go higher - this lasted for about 10 seconds before engine went back to idle speed then we proceeded home with no more problems. This has done this several times before and each time brakes would not hold vehicle back. I took it to ford in 2013 and explained it to them and they said to put gas stabilizer in tank as the gas in tank was condensing and causing the computer to malfunction. I put the gas stabilizer in thinking this would take care of it but this time , sept. 29,2014 and the time before, june 2014 - it rev up slightly , it could not be the case these last two times as i had just put fresh gas in it. It is very scary it could have caused a bad accident. Now i am afraid to drive it. I am going to call ford and see what they have to say this time.

The 2002 ford excursion that i have been using for transportation has a serious design defect in the rear hatch/rear door system , if either of the two bottom doors is shut after the top hatch has been lowered, the rear window shatters and the entire window (pobably weighing 50-60 lbs.) abruptly comes crashing to the ground. This happened to myself and to my family members with very little pressure being applied in shutting the door. First, this design defect should not exist, second there should , at the very least , be a very visible warning sticker on the window or the door assembly to advise anyone who might be using it of the serious potential for extreme bodily injury or even death if this window were to fall on a child or on an extremity causing serious vascular damage or even amputation.this is a very serious design defect that needs immediate attention and correction before someone else gets seriously injured or killed.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it rolled away independently without the engine started. The vehicle crashed into a residential mailbox and a mobile trailer. The contact's right leg and left ankle were injured while attempting to stop the vehicle, and medical attention was received. A police report was filed. An independent mechanic stated that the rear driver side panel and roof needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 150,000.

Transmission shifts from 1 to 3 due to a defective part. Transmission shop told me ford switched a part in their transmission after 1999 year and switched it back in 2002. The part the switched leads to this failure. I believe a lot more complaints will be coming in the next few years. We just put a lot of miles due to living in a rual area.

Transmissionfailed andvehicle failed to respond to acceleration. At last incident fluid came out from underneath, causing it to ignite while vehicle was being driven.this would be the third time the gasket seal of the transmission was replaced along with main central valve.

Consumer was upset that transmission failed at 55,000 miles.whiledriving and towing a boat lost second gear.vehicle revved high when he was in first gear.then it would skip second gear and go into third gear.also, overdrive light flashed.vehicle was inspected by a fordmechanic, who determined that transmission was skipping second gear.consumer had to replace the transmission at a cost of $4,294.97.

The automatic transmission shiftsedto a lower gear while driving.the vehicle was taken to the dealer on 8/5/2003, who stated the transmission lost power in the second and fourth gears.please provide details.

Total failure of automatic transmission, without warning while driving.transmission would not shift out of lower gears, creating extremely unsafe driving environment.vehicle taken to transmission shop, diagnosed as having the "direct drum" break apart and overheat the internal mechanism of transmission.owner of shop indicated that most vehicles have several warning lights/signals to warn of potential problems like this - my vehicle did not exhibit any such signs prior to the total failure of the transmission.the part in question is a aluminum casting, as such it has no moving parts.the fact that it failed is obviously due to a manufacturing defect or the improper selection and specification of material in its manufacture.the ford dealer (where vehicle was purchased) indicated that the ford motor co. Would not participate in the re-impressing of over $2000 in repairs since it was not taken to a ford dealer for repairs.all vehicles using this transmission should, in my opinion, be required to be inspected and repaired at the manufacturer's cost.failure of this type at speed could have resulted in major injuries or death.

I have a 2001 ford excursions, with only 54,000 miles the transmission is going to have to be overhauled do to a defect that ford knows about and changed in newer models that cause the automatic transmission skip second gear. I have seen many other people on the internet talk about it but i like most people do not know where to go to make ford fix the problem.

While driving at 40 mph and without any warning automatic transmission failed. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, dealerstated that transmission went out.

While driving, the second gear in the transmission froze up.

This vehicle has been at dealership with a rumbling noise coming from somewhere in the drivetrain. Rearend has been replaced, transmission has been replaced, dampners in exhaust, and now the rearend again is out to put shims in it.the noise is still there at approx. 42 mph. We want to trade the vehicle for another excursion but the dealer came out with a crazy trade amt. We wanted a new excursion because we do not want a vehicle that has been ripped apart 4 times, and for resale reasons. The dealership and mfg doesn't seem to care and i have been a ford owner for 25 years..

While driving at 40 mph and coming up on a traffic light consumer proceeded to go, but vehicle would not go higher than 20mph,rpmswere at2800.vehiclewas crossing a busy intersection, and could have been broad sided or rear ended. This was a very dangerous situation.please provide any further information.

While driving 35 mph automatic transmissionnever shiftedfrom second gear. Took vehicle to dealership. Mechanic statedvehicle needed a new transmission.

Automatic transmission produced a single loud "thunk" as it shifted from first gear into second gear while pulling away from a stop sign. The transmission shifted very hard, with a bump, into second gear. Drove truck the remaining one mile to residence. Next morning when it was cold the truck seemed to run ok. About 10 miles into my commute the truck would not shift out of first gear when accelerating from a complete stop. It was necessary to accelerate in first gear until about 2700 rpm then completely let off the throttle and then depress the throttle again to get the vehicle to shift up. This shift was very hard - jerked the vehicle- and made a loud "thunk". Once the vehicle was in second gear it shifted up to the other gears without a problem and was not a problem to drive - however the problem reappeared at every stop. Dealer replaced the transmission.

The vehiclehad ongoing problems with the transmission, brakes, and air tire. While driving a noise was heard coming from the transmission. Thevehicle was taken to the dealer twice, and the problem could not be determined.

During normal operation ofvehicle underside became engulfed in flames. Driver was directed by others to pull over, and fire was put out with a fire extinguisher. Dealership examinedvehicle and determined that transmission cooler line broke and leaked fluid onto exhaust manifold, resulting in a fire.there were no injuries to report.consumer stated it melted because it was rubber.

Vehicle was parked in the driveway.consumerwent to enter the vehicle and suddenly vehicle went backwards with the consumer holding on, throwing the consumer into the neighbor's driveway, causing him to sustain multipleinjuries.

Vehicle has a vibration above 45 mph up to 55 mph. Not sure if the vibration is coming from the drive shaft or not but it has a distinct vibration.

While driving 50 mph, the driver shut the four-wheel drive off the vehicle and without warning the driver lost control of the power steering, causing the consumer to drive into a ditch. The consumer was able to remove the vehicle from the ditch.

Driver seat belt unlatches on occasion after being fully engaged.similar to the situation that resulted in a recall in 2001. We did take the vehicle at that time for the recall.

The seat belt broke.webbing was cut in three seating positions. The drivers seat, the middle row and the third row seat.second and third row seat appears to been cut with a razor.*tc

I bought the 2001 excursion aug 25, 08.the passenger seat belt dis-engages while driving down the road.ford said their is not a recall on my excursion, and the warranty for seat belts is only 5 years.

Safety belt on passenger side of middle bench will not latch. This has occurred for the second time. The part was previously replaced. We have been trying to get this fixed for some time but the dealership has had a myriad of excuses such as wrong parts, wrong tools or backordered.

Seat belt on driver's side keeps comingunlatched.seat belt has to be forcedto keep from coming loose. Contacting dealer. Dealer replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion.the front passenger seat burned because the heating switch failed to deactivate automatically.the vehicle will be taken to the dealer.a report was filed with the manufacturer.the manufacturer advised her to file a report with her insurance company.the current and failure mileages were 89,000.

2001 ford excursion 7.3l powerstroke diesel with 114500 miles :abs control module stopped working and disabled anti lock braking system causing vehicle to skid uncontrollably on wet surface.failure is permanent in nature and cannot be reset, so anti-lock braking system is deactivated.repair required is for the abs control module to be replaced by dealer (cost exceeds $500) and old part is not available.

When applying the brakes truck pulls to the left or right very hard almost forcing steering wheel out of consumers hand.consumer is concerned vehicle may tip over. Consumer took vehicle to ford and the replaced the brake calipers.please provide any further information. Ts

The rotors on my 2001 ford excursion keep warping and required periodic turning and/or replacement.as of 40,000 miles. On one occasion, the caliper & abs sensor failed, seizing the front wheel and causing and incident on a snow covered road.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. While driving, the brakes failed at least eight times. The dealer informed the contact that the brakes were operating normally. The dealer also stated that the could run a diagnostic test for $85; yet, the contact declined the test. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 254,000.

The vehiclehad ongoing problems with the transmission, brakes, and air tire. While driving a noise was heard coming from the transmission. Thevehicle was taken to the dealer twice, and the problem could not be determined.

Panic stop and vehiclepulled left so hard that it almost went through the center safety barriers on interstate. Pulled so hard that it felt like someone had grabbed the steering wheel and yanked it. Anytime you brake hard it progressively pulls harder to the left the more you apply the brakes. Also power-steering will disappear at slow speeds making it almost impossible to turn into parking lots.dealerhad vehicle for over 4 weeks. The ford hot line had the dealer replace the front springs, tie rod ends, steering box, power steering pump, check alignment, try different alignment specs, balance & rotate tires, swapped calipers from side to side, put new calipers and pads on. Dealer drove two other excursion'sone new one & another customer's and they both did the same thing. Ford hot line has admitted to dealership they know of problem but don't know what else to try.

When applying brakes hard, vehicle swerves left or right making control very difficult. On two occasions could not stay in lane. Have had it in dealer for this problem at least 5 times. Dealer has changed discs, rotors, pads, calipers, and have swapped parts from side to side. They have also changed tie rod. I have also changed shocks and tires. Dealer says they all do this. My wife will not drive this vehicle, and had there been cars in next lane i would have not been able to avoid an accident. To make it worse two people have just died in an excursion when she lost control on highway in similar circumstances.

When applying brakes at any speedvehicle pulls either to left or right. Dealer turned rotors and replaced brake pads, checked wheel alignment. ( 1000 miles ) in march vehicle was taken back to dealer for the same problem, dealer turned rotors again, vehicle still pulls to sides when brakesare applied.

When braking at very slow speeds consumer is unable to turn steering wheel, like power steering goes out intermittently. Dealer can't remedy the problem but thought it might bebooster assembly.

A customer was attempting to park the vehicle in a slot two feet from a wall when the engine started revving loud and took off.he said he was on the brake very hard and had a hard time coming to a stop.the vehicle hit a sign and bumped into a wall of the handicap ramp.tread marks were seen on the pavement.there was no damage to the building and only slight damage to the vehicle.

While applying on brakesvehicle will veer left without warning. Dealer and manufacturer had been notified, and sent outarea representatives/ technical service representatives to repair vehicle. However, problem was still occurring.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. The contact stated that the vehicle was difficult to steer when parking or driving at very low speeds and he was unable to park the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the power steering pump would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the contact continued having difficulties with steering.the manufacturer advised the contact that there were no technical service bulletins or recalls open for the failure and that they would be sending the information to their technical department for review.the vehicle was not further repaired. The current mileage was 102,000 and the failure mileage was 80,000.

My husband was driving our 2001 ford excursion with myself and our 19 month old baby down the highway, when it began to smoke and ignited a fire directly under the steering column.we were in traffic, made it a point that we could pull over, get out, removing the baby from the child's seat, and the front seat was engulfed in flames.911 was called, and the police and fire department arrived, but there was nothing left of the truck, except the iron shell and iron structures where the seats used to be.we had the recall parts replaced previously, and we had just driven to va, having some smoke under the stirring column and a fuse to blow.we took it to a local ford dealer in va,placing it on the diagnostics machine, replacing the fuse, and telling us that it should be fine.after making it back to brandon, ms, we experienced the above events.

Right side tie rod end came out of coupler due to worn threads.happened immediately upon leaving house, so very low speed.vehicle had to be towed and repaired.could have caused a serious accident if speed had been higher.right front wheel was completely disconnected from the steering linkage.

I have a 2001 ford excursion. My complaint is that the steering stabilizer is located too low in the front of the vehicle. Most all of ford's four-wheel drive vehicles, during those model years, have the same setup. If the vehicle comes into contact with a small( or medium) sized animal or anything lying in the road, the stabilizer can become bent and the vehicle cannot be steered.

While driving to a book store, a steering input was made to avoid a tractor in theroad. At this point the vehicle became completely uncontrollable, unresponsive toany and all further inputs.the vehicle departed the road crossing a median, twonorthbound lanes of traffic, up a bank and rolled at least 2 times before stopping.inspection of the steering linkage indicated failure of the steering box shaft where the control arm attaches to the steering box. This failure may have occurred during the initial steering input. Additionally, the control arm was bent toward the rear of the vehicle, possibly indicating it had been dragged for most if not all of the mishap.

When braking at very slow speeds consumer is unable to turn steering wheel, like power steering goes out intermittently. Dealer can't remedy the problem but thought it might bebooster assembly.

While drivingat 50 mphtie rod fell off. Steering wheel became defective.vehicle had to be towed.

Vehicle was traveling at 70 mph when consumer lost control and vehicle rolled over.roof above driver and passenger seats totally collapsed.roof over second row and third row seats remained intact. Consumer felt that driver and passenger side roof should not have collapsed. There were two deaths.

There is a constant loud rattling when driving vehicle, at any speed.vehicle has been taken to dealer 6 times, mechanic stated that body had been welded toframe crooked, and frame mounts needed to be replaced. Ford motor company representative stated the rattling is a characteristic ofvehicle.

Factory paint peeling. Started on hood and door jambs, now on roof. I cannotbelieve a government agency would allow paint to peel and contaminate in the environment.

Consumer states that the four doors to the vehicle have all lost power to them, also the locking ability is also gone. Nlm

Consumer stated, while getting in the vehicle , and as she grabbed the handle it fell and caused a a major injury.tsthe inside handle of the rear passenger side of the vehicle.(model xlt)scc

Shock broke in half and severed the brake line and vehicle could not be stopped. Also, damaged windshield wiper motor. Reported to ford.*nlm

Consumer was traveling about 60mph onhighway without prior noticefront end ofvehicle started bouncing up and down to the point that driver almost lost control ofvehicle.dealership aware of problem.

Vehicle sways a lot when driving, consumer constantly has to counter that. Dealercannot find a problem.

There is a slight vibration at 30 mph, and at 70 mphnit gets worse.steering wheel starts to shake. Took to dealer, and they put a damper on vehicle, vibration stopped just a little. Consumer stated that dealer could not find a solution.

While driving 55-60mph vehicle hit a small pothole and began bouncing erratically, and consumer lost control.consumer was not able to keep vehicle in lane, and was only able to regain control once vehicle came to a complete stop.problem has occurred twice; 1st incident 06/03/02, and 2nd incident 07/16/02.vehicle is currently being checked by dealer.

Truck keeps pulling and jumping across lanes at speeds of 50 it has been at freedom ford 3times and the last time had an accident hitting into a tractor trailor as it jumped from right lane to left smashing my mirror and door i use this vech. As a livery (limo) and are afraid it might kill me or some one else fmcc says i have to wait 5 times for lemon law and they are fixing door and mirror but still dont know why it pulls that way. I dont know what to do and are scared of driving this vech again.

Whiledrivingover bumps in the road vehicle inadvertently veered to other lanes of traffic.dealer attempted to fix the vehicle several times, but had not resolved the problem.

When driving at highway speeds and road is just a bit uneven, vehicle bounces all over road. Hard to control, this does not happen when towing trailer. Consumer states that the front bottoms out and causes the front end to rise suddenly, consumer feels the problem is with the rubber stoppers that are bolted to the frame that keep the spring from hitting the frame, the ones on this vehicle are only 3/4 inch clearanced from the top of the spring to the stopper, consumer states most vehicles have 4 inches.

At 70 mph the vehicle loses control when it hits and uneven road.the vehicle bounces a lot and there is excessive vibration at 65mph.the cruise control surges when set at approximately 70mph.

Vehicle experiences excessive vibration while in motion. Dealer rebalanced tires.at a second visit, dealer replaced all four tires. But problem still occurs.

Multiple warped rotors. Failed wheel bearing which by ford design are not serviceable. Dealer told me not safe to drive, yet charged me for wht is a design flaw, a serious safety issue, possible lock up. Common knowledge on web that grese leakes on to rotors causing slow stopping, and warping, and you can not add grease.

The defect is causing severely impaired handling of vehicle during travel trailer towing operation.the loss of control during travel trailer towing operation is unsafe and likely to cause death or substantial bodily injury.the travel trailer towing operation is being performed within the specifications of trailer manufacturer; hitch manufacturer, tire manufacturer, and ford motor company.

On 7/18/02, the right front tire quickly went flat at a speed of about 65mph.the mileage on the tire was 24,000.the brand new spare, also a firestone steeltex, was installed on the right front, and blew out at approx 20 miles.the number on the new tire is dh323xg12d, serial # vnw81x03400.number on the tire with 24000 miles is d5323xg16l, serial #vnw81x03400.these 2 firestone steeltextire failures occurred on the same day less that a few hours apart.roads were dry, and temperature was about 85 f.obviously, i lost all confidence in the tires, and replaced all 5 tires (yes, even the spare) with michelins at a cost of over $1100.these are load range e tires which makes them quite expensive.although the firestone tires were not subjected to recall, i wonder why not.the firestone dealer i contacted was extremely rude, and said there was nothing he could do about the failure as they were not subject to recall.also, ford said there was nothing they could do.talk about passing the buck.at least, i know my family is now safe on michelins.i would never purchase anything with the firestone brand as i believe they have serious quality control problems.would be pleased to further discuss this with anyone.i am not particularly looking for financial assistance, but have noticed many other ford excursions still with the firestone steeltex tires on the ground, and wonder about the safety of those involved.thank you.

While traveling at 60 mph, consumer states that the drivers side tire blew causing vehicle to hit aguard rail. Took to mechanic, and mechanic changed tire. Cause of blow out is unknown. Please provide any further information.

Ford excursion with 2700 miles showed severe weather checking on the white letter side of all four tire sidewalls.the tires appeared as if they were rotting away.a ford dealership said that they were not in the tire business and refused to discuss the problem.firestone indicated that it was normal wear until i indicated that i wanted their opinion in writing.firestone then replaced all four tires, charging me for labor, balancing, stems, etc.the media has indicated that these tires are now failing like those found on the ford explorers.i have no faith in firestone or the tires and would like to see an immediate recall on the steeltexradials.dt

Vehicle has had two separate tire incidents. First incident occurred onfront driver's side tire which went flat without warning whilevehicle was in motion.dealer was able to repairseam of tire.on second incident, left rear tire tread separated from the tire while the vehicle was moving approximately 65mph.tire shredded.firestone, steeltex, alterrain, p265/75r16. While driving at low speeds a vibration was noticeable. Vechile had tendency to pull to the left. Stopped and checked tire pressure of both front tires. Pressure of both front tires was 62psi hot. Stopped a walmart service to have balance checked. Right tire had a bulge where the tread was separating from tire. Tire has been maintained at manufacturer recommended pressure. Remaining tread depth was 11/32.

While traveling the speed limit on an interstate highway, june 2, 2002, we had only traveled approximately 20 miles, when we experienced a tire explosion on the front driver's side.this caused us to lose control of our vehicle, crossing two lanes of traffic, and ending up in the median.before coming to a complete stop, the vehicle had traveled approximately 60 yards, turned sideways, and almost rolled.my excursion was up on two wheels, nearly rolling over.it stayed suspended in air for a few seconds before falling back down on all four wheels.no other vehicle was involved, and no physical injury was incurred.however, it endangered the life of my family, and traumatized my children.there needs to be a further investigation into firestone tires.there definitely is a problem there.

As of september 10th, 2002, i have had two tires with seperated belts. I have had my excursion in two different dealerships due what appeared to be steering issues. The vehicle wonders on the road as if it has bald tires. I had one dealership tell me it is charactoristic of the vehicle. I had a second tell me it was tire pressure and proceeded to inflate my rear tires to 65 psi. I had another dealer this week tell me the two rear tire appear to have issues with the "belts". Now this same dealer just rotated my tires. I started researching for defects and was astonished at the amount of reports out there on the internet. Why is it that your agency is not pursuing these defects? please advise?nlm

Poor paint job ,paint is cracking due to a defect in either paint or primer

Traveling at 65mph when right side rear tire sidewall blewout causing the vehicle to swerve. Managed to slow down and proceeded to stop on the shoulder of the highway. Sidewall completely disentegrated. Tread still intact. Local firestone retailer ruled out road hazard and confirmed sidewall failure, suggested pro rating tire for replacement but later advised against replacement due to the damage sustained to the vehicle as a result of the blowout. Refered me to firestone technical services for damage claim.y (dot number: vnw81x0510tiresize: 265/75r/16)

At 70 mph the vehicle loses control when it hits and uneven road.the vehicle bounces a lot and there is excessive vibration at 65mph.the cruise control surges when set at approximately 70mph.

Cruise control cutout switch mounted on master cylinder is full of brake fluid including the electrical connector.the vin number doesn't link to a recall.perhaps the previous owner had switch replaced under recall or perhaps this vin wasn't in the original recall.in any event a fire hazard is present.

On august 15th i drove my 2001 ford excursion to get a haircut in the morning. Then on the way back i stopped at little ceasers pizza for my kids. Soon after that i came home and parked my 2001 excursion in my back yard. About twenty minutes later i check on my kids and i saw smoke coming from the hood of my excursion. Soon after that i saw fire and the whole excursion was up in flames. My car was parked and locked therer was no fire or smoke when i locked the vehicle and came in the house. The vehicle is totaled. I got a recall notice on thursday of last week but the notice was not an emergency it just said call your local ford dealer when you get a chance to have this taken care of. They never said your truck can catch on fire and maybe burn your house down.

The cruise control was activated at aproximately 65-70mph. After applying the foot brake the vehicle failed to disengage the cruise control. I was fortunate enough to be able to reduce the speed even as the rpm continued to stay at 2000 rpm, although it took a much greater distance than normal. I brought the vehicle to a stop and the engine continued to rev at 2000 rpm. The cancel button on the steering wheel would not disengage and neither would the brake. I pulled to the side of the road and placed the transmission in park, and the engine continued to rev at 2000 rpm. I applied more fuel and was able to rev the engine between 2000 and 3000 rpm only. The cancel button on the steering wheel continued to be inoperable. Finally at one point i released my foot from the brake pedal and the rpm then dropped to the normal idle range. I then opened the hood and inspected the engine compartment but was unable to see anything significant to have caused this to have occurred. I consider myself quite lucky to have been in the particular driving situation where i had ample room to bring the vehicle to a stop without having been involved in an accident or to have involved others in an accident. Having worked with computers for most of my life i suspect that the code was somehow fouled up that may or may not be involved in monitoring the status of the cancel switches...just a hunch. Have there been any other reports of such an incident on ford excursion or ford f250 from which this model is derived?

Failure of cruise control to cancel from the steering wheel or from the brake. The cruise control was activated at approximately 65-70 mph. After applying the foot brake the vehicle failed to disengage the cruise control. I was fortunate enough to be able to reduce the speed even as the rpm continued to stay at 2000rpm, although it took a much greater distance than normal. I brought the vehicle to a stop and the engine continued to rev at 2000rpm. The cancel button on the steering wheel would not disengage the engine rpm at 2000, and neither would the brake pedal. I pulled to the right side of the road and and placed the transmission in park, and the engine continued to rev at 2000rpm. I applied more fuel and was able to rev the engine between 2000 and 3000rpm only. The cancel button on the steering wheel continued to be inoperable. Finally, at one point, i released my foot from the brake pedal and the rpm then dropped to the normal idle range. I then opened the hood and inspected the engine compartment but was unable to see anything significant to have caused this to have occurred. I consider myself quite lucky to have been in the particular driving situation where i had ample room to bring the vehicle to a stop without having been involved in an accident or to have involved others in an accident. My suspicions are that the code that monitors the switches was somehow confused. I have taken the vehicle to covert ford where it has been since 11/14/2000. Yesterday, i am told, a fmc technical rep has looked over the vehicle. To date no one else , i am told, has been able to replicate the problem. This is the second time reporting this problem. The initial report was identified by nhtsa as "odi-735-005"but the report does not appear on your databases.

Concerning my 2001 ford excursion- vin number [xxx], (not part of recent recalls by ford!). After short trip, (25 miles) drove to late evening of the 16th of july. Parked my 2001 ford excursion directly in front of home in center of the circular drive approx 4 ft from front door. Turned off vehicle & went inside house to bed. After about 50 mins, (12:15 am july 17th) startled by loud sound outside. I opened the front door of home and saw excursion ablaze on driveway where i had parked it. I woke up family, (wife and 3 young children) sent them next door, called 911. Quickly ran outside drove my cadillac away from the excursion. Flames leapt 16 to 20 feet in air. Neighbor and i grabbed water hoses and able to contain till the fire dept arrived 15 minutes later. My family traumatized! thank goodness was not parked in the driveway. The fire also caused extensive damage to my driveway. There is now a large black area of melted material fused into the cement. Outside of home looks okay..not sure if any internal structures damaged from heat of fire or smoke. Also damaged and destroyed surrounding plants and shrubs. This was a real struggle to keep fire contained. Some smoke inhalation and continued cough since incident. Nationwide insurance said cause of the fire was the cruise control switch!!. An independent forensic fire investigator from advanced investigative concepts, (aic-fire ) investigated cause of fire examining evidence on july 19, 2005. Determined origin and cause. From their report they stated that, "the fire originated at the brake master cylinder located in the rear driver's side portion of the engine compartment. The fire was caused by a defective cruise control deactivation switch." i am very concerned this could happen to somebody else especially given that i have not seen anything released by ford concerning a recall for the excursion. Please diligently pursue ford to recall the excursions to get this rectified. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 40 mph the smell of smoke was present but no other indicators.the vehicle was moved off the road where a fire was noticed coming from under the hood.the fire was immediately extinguished.the fire department responded and filed a report.the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was determined the cruise control switch caused the fire and needed to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 ford excursion. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph when the windshield wipers began to shut on and off intermittently. The manufacturer was contacted in regards to nhtsa campaign id number: 01v258000 (visibility: windshield wiper/washer: motor) but the contact was informed that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The windshield on my excursion cracked along the bottom from the heat and cold about 3'' up along the whole length of the windshield. This happened to my sons 2001 f250 same way. There was no reason as nothing hit the window.

Consumer states that the wipers unexpectantly stopped working.consumer feels this is very unsafe for wipers to stop while driving.please provide any further information.
