My 2000 ford excursion involved in a rear end collision - excursion rear ended another vehicle - air bags did not deploy on 8/3/05. Excursion was traveling 60 mph and the other vehicle was stopped. I purchased the vehicle used from a ford dealer. I contacted ford motor company 8/9/05 to request an investigation in to why the air bags failed to deploy. The insurance is going to total out the vehicle. I would like the air bag failure to be investigated before i loose control of the vehicle by settling with the insurance company. There were no warning signs that the air bags were defective. I can provide pictures if needed.

We were run off the road on i-70 traveling through moab, utah when our excursion smashed head on into the side of a frozen solid rock hill traveling 80 mph.we were then launched into the air and proceeded to flip end over end several times before coming to a halt at the bottom of the ravine upside down.the front end of the vehicle is gone along with the top and back end.at no time did the airbags deploy.we contacted ford to report this problem and after finishing their investigation we were told that the impact to the front end of our vehicle was not substantial enough to cause the airbags to deploy.we have several pictures of this vehicle after the crash and it is clear that the impact was hard enough.my husband suffered a severed tongue, chest and neck injuries and various abrasions.i suffered a cut above my left eye, chest injuries, and abrasions.our daughter only suffered from several abrasions.no one was seriously injured, however, my husband and i both still suffer from ongoing chest pain.ford has been completely uncooperative with our efforts in providing this information.i hope the information provided will require ford to, once again, re evaluate their safety features and equipment.thank you.sincerely,[xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I purchased my 2000 ford excurionin summer 2003.the interior lights have been repaired several timestimes for staying on randomly.the backup beeper has never worked and when i tried to have both items repaired under the $2000 extended warranty i bought they told me it was not covered.i also have seen the records for this vehicle from the previous owner (that the dealership accidentally sent me) and the vehicle had been in for the same problems as i have before i ever purchased it and that was not disclosed.the paint in the winter of 2003-2004 started peeling off of the area bove the windshield and the roofof my vehicle.i took it to the dealer and they told me there was nothing they could do because it had been repainted.i took it to a body shop and they told me that the paint lines show that the vehicle was never repainted and that they have seen several ford vehicles with this problem, and ford is very relucatant to help people in thi situation..my husband now has a ford truck too which he purchased used, and has the same interior light problems i have.the last time i contacted the dealer to have the ford representative contact me, i never even received a phone call from the service manager or ford.they ignore my contact and calls, especially randy in the service dapartment.the original complaint i made to them was 2 1/2 years ago and they have done nothing to help me or resolve my problem.

4 a.m. We heard a loud noise. Woke up to see what it was and our 2000 ford excursion was in flames. At that time the fire was consentrated under the hood on left side.the left tire was already in flames. Vehicle was totally destroyed by the time the fire depatment arrived to put it out. Which took about 10-15 minutes. The only problems we had was the cruise control had recently quit working.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion.the contact stated that the spark plug ejects from the aluminum head in the vehicle's engine.the vehicle makes a loud noise and then shuts off.the failure usually occurs while driving 15 mph.the vehicle also has a gas leak.the current mileage is 126,000 and failure mileage was 106,000.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion.while driving at an unknown speed, the rear windshield wiper malfunctioned and overheated.smoke appeared from the wiper as well as the instrument panel.the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 01v258000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer:motor) and would not repair it for free, although the failures were identical.the repair would cost $1,000.the vehicle is currently in the shop with extensive damage to the instrument panel and rear windshield.the failure mileage was 80,000.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion.the vehicle caught fire while parked.the front end was completely destroyed.the fire department believed that the cause of the fire was electrical and originated underneath the hood.a police and fire report were filed.the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer.the current and failure mileages were 144,000.

Loud missing noise comming from engine and loss of power. Problem found was # 4 spark plug on pass side of engine had blown out and was laying on top of engine. It damaged threads in alum head and coil pack. Spark plugs have never been changed. Factory defect during build. Ford dealers contacted and could offer no assitance

I purchased a 2000 ford excursion last month from private seller. After fixing all of the door lock actuators ( which is apparently is yet another non-recalled problem) affecting most of theseford vehicles, i discovered that the former owner "forgot" to tell me the gem unit had been swapped out for one found apparently in a salvage yard.the gem controls 4x4 function, and a ford tech tells me, it appears this one came from a 4x2 vehicle.the plot thickens. This integral electrical component of a formerly $45,000 vehicle has been declared obsolete by fo mo co. . it cannot be found. There are none available...anywhere. No after market company has them either.this vehicle is virtually worthless to me.. I live in colorado and must have a 4x4. I thought parts for vehicles had to be available for 20 years.ford customer servicehirelings have been totally worthless."we're sorry, there is nothing we can do."

In parking lot of restaurant. We went into the restaurant and in 15 min someone ran in to tell everyone someone's truck was on fire. Well it was our 2000 ford excursion diesel. No fore warning engine just caught on fire. Front end destroyed. Massive smoke damage and water damage from fire trucks. The car was totaled.

Car was stoped and i turned the lights on and the headlights would not turn on. The plug that the lights plug in to was replaced and the lights word. It seems that the center post on both of them had burned out.

I stopped engine at my house, left headlights on to see. Wiring harness failure (dead short) ignited the left headlight assembly, flames extended over a foot high. Fuse never blew out.had a fire extinguisher at hand, put out flames. $4600 damage, but saved the vehicle.why didn't the fuse blow? i have all of the damaged parts: wire harness, headlight, bracket. Took vehicle to ford dealer, damage was repaired, insurance paid.

1. The blinkers and four way stopped working.2. Under the hood there were two burst out sets of wires near the break fluid. The wires are connected to a previously recalled part.3. The vehicle's battery was disconnected and it is now at the dealership.

The power door lock electric motors freeze up and do not operate with the electric switch. The frozen power door lock does not allow the door to be opened properly and quickly in an event of an emergency. The manual door lock release knob must be utilized in order to unlock the doors. This safety issue affects all four doors of the vehicle. This is not an isolated safety hazard, we currently have 2 in our fleet and all the power door locks don't operate safely or properly. We have had other ford excursions which all were affected with the defective power door locks. The front door manual release knob is flush with the door panel which makes it even more difficult to attempt to escape from the vehicle in an event of an emergency.

While driving down a steep grade, engine cut out and set a ses code.had a hard time getting the suv to stop and almost lost control of vehicle, but due to the slow nature of driving i kept it under control with 8 occupants in suv.once stopped, i got out code reader and found out that the cps (cam position sensor) had failed.i had a spare in the suv and replaced it.contacted ford main office and they have known it to be a problem with the diesels and nothing is being done to get a recall or replacement part to fix cps problem.

Consumer is having electrical problems. There are a few items that don't even work at times, likedome light andinstrument panel.consumer has not contacted dealer.please provide further details.

My car was working perfectly, except for a blinker light which was not working, it was completely off, i started my truck around 10am and i dropped my kids to school, came back and park my car, about 1 hour later i head out again, i insert the key to start the car andthe minute it started lots of smoke started coming out from the front hood. Everything was so quick, there was not even time to open the hood and look, the truck got into fire, buy the time the firemen came there was a big fire, the car is completely lost.

Recently purchased a 2000 ford excursion.blew spark plug right out of head.took back to dealer where i purchased it.they put in a heil coil.5 months later same thing happened only different spark plug. Took to ford.told it was going to cost me 3500.00 to replace new head.did some research online, this is a very common problem with 1996-present ford trucks and even ford mustangs.ford is refusing to acknowledge the problem. Meantime everyone who it happens to usually ends up shelling out $3000.00 plus.

Multiple electrical system failures, fixed at least with three visits to century ford in mt. Airy, md under warranty.warranty expired problems arose again and have compounded. (* fixed in warranty period more than once and continues to occur) door ajar light stays on*, interior lights remain on for extended time *, running board lights caught fire even though car was not running, auto lock/unlock feature does not operate, power windows are slow to open and close, rear power source inoperable*,front headlight passenger side sometimes does not light.

2000 ford excursion 7.3l diesel 4x4we've experienced intermittent failure of the generic electronic module that affects electrical safety components of the vehicle while raining heavily.the safety components affected are windshield wipers and lights on our vehicle-water leaking through the windshield was blamed by the dealer and a faulty gem was replaced to the tune of about $755.

The turn signal will intermittently stop working or not signal at all when the signal is activated in either direction (right or left turn). This will occur whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary. This has been occurring for over a year now.

The power door lock electric motors freeze up and donot operate with the electric switch. The frozen power door lock does not allow the door to be opened properly and quickly in an event of an emergency. The manual door lock release must be utilized in order to unlock the doors. The contact owned a 2000 ford excursion. While driving, the contact noticed smoke coming from the front driver's side floorboard. The driver was not aware of any warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road where it caught fire and burst into flames. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was not driveable and was towed to the driver's residence. The dealerand manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The driver believed the failure was related to nhtsa campaign number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control); however, she never received a notification. The failure mileage was unknown.

My wife went into town and was returning and driving through a busy intersection when our excursion died, she had a terrible time steering and avoiding injury without power assist, we had the vehicle towed at our expense, i borrowed an obdii scan tool and pulled the code for cps, replaced and it runs again $200.00 later.

My 2000 ford diesel excursion caught on fire from the dash, stereo area.there had been no prior warning nor any kind of problems at all with this vehicle.there were no defaults at the time it was bought.everything worked and was in great condition and was kept that way. *nlm

The nob on the headlight switch is loose, it works but i see on a web sight that there is a recall on the headlight switch but my dealer says that that there was no recall, whats the deal?

At 76000 miles the spark plug blew out of my v10 excursion.the excursion is a 2000 model year and in very good condition.the plugs have never been changed since new.ford will not fix it as it is out of warranty and the warranty company, (heritage insurance) will not cover it as they say it is a defect with the design of the head and plugs from ford.they say there is not enough threads in the head design.this seems to be echoed on the internet in many forums and other articles.appearently ford knows about this and still does nothing, except chage their customers thousands to fix the problem.furthermore the fix of replacing the head is not a permenant solution.

On my 2000 ford excursion, suddenly had electrical issues.running board lights stayed andtruck attempted starting itself with no key in ignition.mechanic found leaking windshield had dripped onto fuse box and corroded terminals.destroyed starter, starter solenoid and fuse box.also nearly started fire, as smoke was seen and smelled from interior of truck.major repair cost.my mechanic as well as multiple ford dealers report this is a very common problem with excursions and super duty's, yet no recall.ford decided to stop making the fuse box, which poses a problem because 1) not many are left in junk yard and they are vehicle specific (mine had to be same year and from excursion only) and 2) you cannot tell if there is corrosion without nearly destroying the fuse box to open it.this needs to be a recalled item immediately, as i plan on my $50,000 truck to last more than 150,000 miles before it has to go to the scrap heap.

While driving the vehicle made a loud bang and smoke began coming out of hood.once we got the engine turned off and the emergency was over we discovered the spark plug had blown up.when it blew up the head became stripped and we had to have a plug installed into the defective head and replace the coil.i have since found out this is a very common problem with ford excursions.

#4 spark plug ejected from head. This is an obvious defect and i believe ford should be held accountable for this poor design.

Experience problems with door locks on my 2000 ford excursion.excursionshas same type of electrical problem.*sc

2000 ford excursion - v101st - all powerlocks malfunctioned and had to replace motors at own expense2nd - battery drain within one week - causes dead battery.have put three batteries in vehicle and ford can't figure it out.3rd - front beeping noise intermittently - can't find it, don't know where it is

Cps failed on 2000 ford 7.3l diesel.

2000 ford excursion 7.3 l diesel no start when key turned. Originally told it was a pats issue and needed new keys. Problem was intermittent then was continuous. All lights on dash came on but the starter would not turn over. Was a starter solenoid that was fried.

How can a company as ford claim to be an honest american car company...they should be stripped of their title of american and given their own identity of corporate cause they obviously do not care about the safety or their own integrity with the united states the people and we the people are just dollar signs to them. I have two fords and lets just say i should have learned after my second found on the road dead vehicle to not have been suckered into buying the american made ford again. I own a 2000 ford excursion and have had four spark plugs blown in the last two months...two in the last week. My truck barely hit 143,000....work trucks, dependable family vehicles...not so much. My truck has been taken care of immaculantly since 2000 and many who are not familiar with body details mistake it for the newer versions. This is a common problem that has been in existence since the truck came out...so much a problem ford came out with a special repair kit for it that will only be warranteed if you go to ford to fix it...sounds like a racket to me. A racket the government has looked into and approved. I have a family and am trying to get through this recession but seem to be going bankrupt not on gas prices from overseas or inflation but from repairs for an american, excuse me corporate american made vehicle that has taken almost every pint of blood my family has collectively. After a decade of continued complaints ford and the "safety agency" does nothing...my truck sits in my drive way because i choose to buy school clothes for my children and groceries vs. Repairing it again. Beyond disgusted on behalf of the american ford owners...who have walked in my shoes. After so many complaints how can the government and consumer affairs allow this corporatecompany not be held accountable?

Front passenger seat caught fire and burned a hole in the seat with my daughter seated in it while we were driving.

Cruise control quit working.....brushed off........then we went to use the horn and now it doesn't work with the engine on.the gem is faulty.needs to be replaced with oem unit.

Windshield wipers running in intermittent mode.started to smell an electrical burning smell in the interior cabin.windshield wipers started to move very slowly.i tried to turn wipers to on-slow and on-fast mode and they worked erratically. I pulled off road and stopped vehicle and smoke was pouring out of drivers side on outside of windshield where wiper motor is located.i ran for my fire extinguisher but did not have to use it.wipers are not functioning at this time.i have not replaced any parts at this time and i am filling a complaint.i see there is a nhtsa campaign id# 01v258000 that i believe involves my vehicle.i called ford motor company and they noted my concerns and said there was no recall on my vehicle at this time.

Spark plug vibrated out of socket damaging engine head ($2100.00).spark plugs were original factory install.manufacturer is currently investigating.

Consumer heard about a recall regarding stalling due to a faulty ignition system, consumer states that her vehicle has stalled while in traffic and at traffic lights repeatedly and is requesting specific information regarding the recall.

Driving approx. 40 mph, heard a pop and suddenly vehicle lost all but minimal power. Pulled over, opened hood and noticed a spark plug dangling outside the cylinder head. Took to local ford, said "oh, yes it happens all the time....but its not a recall." vehicle has 82k miles, off warranty, last spark plug change 9k miles ago. They wanted 5k to fix it. Went to another ford service, same story, same price. Called local mechanic friend, "oh yeah happens all the time with that vehicle. All you have to do is carefully tap a slightly larger hole and insert appropriate spark plug ...$400." if everyone who repairs these vehicles is aware of what must be a production defect, why are there not more reports and a recall? how can i best identify others similarly affected and make ford, nhtsa or other appropriate agencies aware of the problem?

2000 ford excursion triton v-10 engine, spark plug blown out of cylinder resulting in destroyed ignition coil and spark plug. Raw fuel vapor exposed to spark. Spark plugs were original with only 73,000 miles on car. Extreme potential for fire hazard created by this issue.

The #3 spark plug blew out under normal conditions after only 58000 miles. This was the oem spark plug. It damaged the head, the coil and, of course, the spark plug.a new head will be needed. The dealer, rancho ford in temecula, ca, says this happens all the time.not yet corrected.

Consumer heard about a recall regarding stalling due to a faulty ignition system, consumer states that her vehicle has stalled while in traffic and at traffic lights repeatedly and is requesting specific information regarding the recall.

V-10 spark plug blow out.

Vehicle caught on fire unexpectedly while it was parked. Manufacturer was contacted by owner, but the cause was undetermined.

My vehicle, a 2000 ford excursion limited, v-10 gasoline engine, was parked in my driveway on 3/3/07, locked and everything turned off and had been there for quite a while, when i heard a loud explosion and i ran outside to find the vehicle on fire under the hood on the driver's side.the hood release did not work and i tried to put out the fire with a water hose.when the fire department came, we pried the hood open and extenquished the fire. But everything was burned and the vehicle is a total loss.

The vehicle was parked and without warning it caught on fire.driver called the fire department to extinguish the fire.vehicle was towed and totaledby the insurance company.

The past six weeks my service engine soon light came on.after checking engine fluids and changing fuel filter the light would go out.i have also noticed my headlights going dim quite frequently.after third occurence, i took my vehicle to independent service shop.after checking for two days, they determined that the main wiring harness has again been melted through.this was reported to you on 2-17-2004 when the first fire was discovered.confirmation number is 10081075.you can contact this service shop.they have replaced this part on many fords.they had one vehicle which became fully engulfed in flames while driving down the road.does someone have to die before ford is required to recall this.the wiring harness is placed where engine fluids frequently drip on wiring harness and causes it to melt and eventually starting on fire.i have another ford with same engine.i would like this fixed before it costs me another $2500 for that vehicle.the repair shop is valley diesel injection located in neenah, wi .please call them with questions.ford dealers will not truthfully state they have a problem.if there is not a problem why are the wiring harnesses not available.last time it was a national back order.

While driving my check engine light came on.after checking engine fluids and verifying everything was okay.the engine started losing power.we called the local dealer and they weren't able to get it in to check, so we trailered it to a neenah repair shop.after checking various things heindicatedthere was a fire in the wiring harness of this vehicle.i have retained the parts which the ford dealer wanted to have.this was my third ford vehicle which started on fire.i've had an ltd that was totaled while parked in my driveway.a ford conversion van which the auxiliary power started the interior on fire while i was driving it and this ford excursion.i also have a 2002 f350 which has had every problem that my excursion has had.both these vehicles have the same motor.both vehicles are on the third alternator.there is a problem in the electrical system of these ford vehicles.the repair costs for the excursion have exceeded $2500.00.

Electrical harness (which includes the cruise control, horn, etc) caught fire and burned.we were able to replace the burned out parts.i went back recently to the local ford dealer to ask if it was related to the recall and they said that excursions were not part of the recall and it was just coincidence. I am now concerned that it will catch fire again.

Vehicle fire.2000 ford excursion.in the same wire/switch as the recalled vehicles.i parked in a mall parking lot, and prepared to wait a few minutes until the store opened.i saw puffs of smoke from under the driver's side of the hood.i got out and cautiously lifted the hood.the wiring nearest the driver's side burst into flames.i closed the hood to limit airflow and a bystander called 911.the fire truck came and put out the fire.arrangements were made to tow the car to a ford dealership nearby.the repair shop replaced the wiring and said that it was not covered under the recall because it did not have a constant current through it.i have the burned parts.

Wis. Dept of consumer protection forwarded my complaint file # 435376. Since i filed this complaint against ford and l& s truck my vehicle had another problem.i took it to an independent service center.he stated that the plug from the high pressure oil pump mysteriously came loose.this happened less that two weeks after l& s truck serviced my truck after my complaint. All the oil came out of the truck and into the engine compartment. This time i have not had a fire.i do have the wiring harness which burned from the previous time.

The wiring harness on the steering column causes the truck to stall when driver used the "tilt" option.the dealership replaced the wiring harness and told the owner not to no longer use the "tilt" option on steering column.nlm

My 2000 ford excursion caught fire in my driveway last night and burned.the entire engine compartment was in full flames when my daughter heard the alarm going off.the fire department says the fire started under the hood on the driver's side.it burned the entire front half of the vehicle before we got it put out.i don't know what started the fire but it was about 45 minutes after we had come home from having dinner at a local restaurant here in boerne.there was no previous "warning" that would have pointed to any potential fire.again, the fire department suspects the fire started on the driver's side underneath the hood based upon burn patterns.i have heard this is the same vicinity that other ford fires that have something to do with the cruise control have started.

2000 ford excursion, cruise control recall performed in dec, 2006. On 11 jan ,2007smoke coming from engine compartment. Unplugged brake switch at master cylinder, connector was plastic and had brake fluid dripping from it. Pulled 20 amp fuse from fuse panel, smoke stopped.the main concern is that ford performed recall(installed fuse jumper) but did not replace switch, when brake fluid leaked through switch, fusible link modification failed to protect electrical system. I am concerned that others that have had thisrecall performed are still in danger.this is not my vehicle, it is my cousins. He is not sure if hewill file a complaint or not so i thought i needed to. I am a witness to the whole incident and can provide more info and pictures if needed.

1st failure:pulling out of my driveway and noticed that my security system "theft" light was blinking. This shouldn't be blinking while i am driving. All of a sudden i realized that i had no power when i pressed on the gas pedal.then noticed that all gauges had failed.the engine continued to run but with no power to drive.turned vehicle off and would not start again.towed into covert ford and their explanation was a blown fuse that controls the pcm (power control module).this affected the gas pedal because it is controlled by a chip instead of a cable.covert ford replaced fuse, checked out all wiring harnesses and could not find additional problems.returned vehicle to me.2nd failure:2-1/2 weeks after 1st failure i was driving down the road and had turned off the "overdrive" at the end of the gear shifter. When i turned the "overdrive" back on i immediately heard a pop from the fuse box and noticed that my gauges had failed and the "theft" light was blinking.i continued to coast until i found a fairly safe area to pull off.because i was going downhill at the time of failure i was able to get off the road.this vehicle was towed into covert ford and is still with them.i am concerned that this is an intermittent electrical problem and that it will never be located. This is very dangerous because there is no prior warning signals.all of a sudden your engine is still running, but provides no power to the vehicle. The reason that i am reporting this is that there is a service bulletin addressing a similar problem.service bulletin # 14044, seq # 136,date: 0004,nhtsa # sb613701 makes reference to a #19 blown fuse.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. The contact stated that while pulling into the residential driveway, the check engine warning lamp illuminated and the vehicle made a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who refused to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance and referred her to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.

Steering sways its hard to drive it feels like steering isn't stable

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. While driving various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the spark plug had ejected from the cylinder head. As a result, the spark plug needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure recurred both times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

Why do my spark plugs keep blowing out on this [xxx] thing???? this is extremely dangerous & i'm sure people have died from this continuing to happen on the ford trucks with aluminum heads. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. The contact stated that while parked and unoccupied, the vehicle independently started. The contact disabled the battery. The failure recurred on a separate occasion. In addition, the heater and the interior lights would activate without the vehicle in operation. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure was 111,000. The vin was unavailable.

Ford dose not have enough threads in spark plug holes and plugs blow out without warning , this left us stranded in unsafe location.

I was driving and a spark plug popped out in the ignition coil popped out

Dt: contact statesvehicle had sporadic surging. The vehicle tended to surge at lower speeds. In may 2005 a mechanic replaced the spark plugs, isc motor, fuel filter.the vehicle ran well until 11-9-2005. While driving slowly exiting a parking lot the vehicle started surging.she pressed on the brakes as hard as possible and the vehicle went out of control. The vehicle went across 2 lanes of traffic. At this time the vehicle is at a local mechanic.

A spark plug ejected from my ford excursion triton v10 motor while driving 70mph with my family in the vehicle. This was not due to improper fitting of the spark plugs or any after market alterations done to the motor. This is a factory stock motor with 115,000 miles. I have read that this is a very serious problem with the ford motors and yet there has not be a recall on the matter. After this happened i personally spoke to friends who have an excursion and 2 of the 3 had the same problem.

Sparkplug ejection.

Our 2000 ford excursion was sitting in the driveway and caught on fire.there was no one in the car at the time.the fire department was called and the fire was extinguished but the truck is damaged beyond repair.

I was driving my excursion around 25 mph and as i accelerated to 35 mph i heard a loud bang and thought my exhaust manifold may have cracked or came loose.after further investigation i found the spark plug wire and spark plug were blown out.called local mechanic and said i needed to bring it to ford for approx 4k, ford would replace the head.i went on line and purchased a kit, ford is aware of the problem with the spark plug being blown out of the head but will not recall the truck. Note that this is affecting many vehicles, not only ford. This is a huge issue and very unfair that the manufacturer of the head is getting away with the poor quality control and the fact that they are not correcting the issue for the consumer.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was parked, flames and black smoke came from the driver's side underhood area.the contact extinguished the fire with a water hose.the fire department was not contacted.minor fire damage was visible inside the engine compartment.the vehicle was towed to a dealer to await further inspection.

Spark plug blowout on 6.8 liter v-10 engine - 2000 ford excursion at under 50,000 miles. Problem appears to be widespread and ford will not admit to fault. Ford dealer cannot, or will not explain cause. Online forums discuss problem as common. Cost is $3000.00.

While driving 45 mph vehicle stalled. This caused the driver to drift to side of the road. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and mechanic determined thatengine spark plugsblew out of the engine.mechanic replaced the spark plugs.

Consumer startedvehicle early in the morning andheard a loudnoise comingfrom the engine. Independent mechanic indicated one of the spark plug came out of the head gasket. Need to be replaced the engine.

Blown spark plug from 2000 ford excursion v-10 triton engine. 3rd time. First time on new years eve 2007 while driving through town of houghton michigan. Was able to insert new plug as old plug was completely blown out from under hood and could not find. Had to replace plug coil as mounting bracket was broken and coil jacket and spring destroyed as well. Second time same plug, this time no threads left to seat spark plug. Thread insert installed by local high performance engine garage. They viewed problem as poor design and manufacturing practices by ford motor company. Third time just happened earlier today while on us-41 traveling through l'anse michigan ironically just a few miles after passing the old ford alberta michigan lumber mill where the sideboards for the ford woodsies were milled. Contacted friends at the high performance engine shop to have a new thread insert placed into the cylinder. The nhsta and the federal government needs to reopen this case and take action and get ford to replace the faulty heads on all triton engines. This could cause a serious fire or accident. But most of all it is a very expensive repair and the ford dealerships will not do anything other than replace the aluminum head at the owners expense of $4,000 plus dollars. 3 incidents of this kind are ridiculous.

We stopped at a motel at about 10:00 p.m. And the car started shaking so we turned it off. When i restarted the car we heard a bang and the car started chugging and after reading the reports on ford v10's i figured it was a plug. The family had to catch a plane the next morning at 6:00 a.m. So i drove it to the airport as is figuring the damage was done. We made it to the airport just fine except for the loud chugging. Wereturned i drove it home 300 miles and other than the noise i didn't have any other problems. Lucky for me the plug that blew was easy to reach so it didn't cost much to repair but the mechanic told me he had repaired many of the v8's as well. He put a stainless insert in the plug hole and reused the coil so the total cost was less than $200. If it would have been one further back it would have been up to 10 times the cost. Ford does need to address this issue.

Dt: the contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. Spark plugs wereejected out of cylinder heads. No longer had threads. Incident happened on september, 23, 2005. No crash. Involved. Vehicle was at a stop sign. Thenvehicle took a right turn, and that was when theincidenthappened. No damage to the hood. The spark plug wire that had the coil in it wasdamaged .

2000 ford excursion with 6.8l v10 engine and 127,000 miles ejected the #4 spark plug at relatively low speed (less than 20mph). This is a serious fire hazard as fuel is also ejected into the engine compartment. This needs to be taken seriously by ford motor company or the nhtsa as eventually, considering the number of online complaints regarding this issue; someone will be injured or killed. Also - the fact that fords with modular engines ejecting spark plugs is so common place that new businesses and aftermarket products have actually been developed to address it. Ford motor appears to claim that it is the spark plug manufacturers problem (remember firestone?) yet it also occurs with oem plugs.the repair cost will be anywhere from $700 to over $3500 depending on whether an aftermarket solution will fix the head or if the head requires replacement.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion.while driving highway speeds, the contact heard a loud popping noise followed by an abnormal ticking.the dealer diagnosed that the spark plugs exploded and blew a hole in the engine.the vehicle was repaired.the failure and current mileage was 92,000.updated 01/24/12*ljupdated 01/30/12

I have been left struggling in the middle of no where to get help. While traveling on our 2000 ford excursion due to blown up spark plugs. It has happen to us one time in town and two times out of state. This has been very costly and frustrating to me and my family. I wish ford wouldexcept thisbeing a manufacture problem and do a recall on it.

On july 2, 2010 while at daycare center picking up granddaughter, my 2000 ford excursion bursted into flames.the city of jackson fire department came out and put the fire out before daycare center begin to burn down.

On two separate occasions spark plugs have blown out of the cylinder heads my 2000 ford excursion v10. Ford disclaims any responsibility for the damage and costs incurred. When the spark plugs blow out of the cylinder heads they also destroy the coil ones.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. The contact stated that the rpms would increase suddenly and the engine would shut down. The contact had the starter replaced two times. A local mechanic informed the contact that the failure was caused by a sticking throttle body and not the starter. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The current mileage was approximately 75,000.

Spark plug blowout.

Got up to start my vehicle when i heard a loud pop under the hood, when i checked i noticed a spark plug was ripped out of the engine. Got it repaird at around $.400.00 but it happend 5 more times ever since, each time a diffrent plug.

While me and my family headed out on the highway to visit family, we began to hear a noise coming from the engine, soon after it sounded as if the engine had exploded, and almost loosing control from the noise that it created, i was able to drive off to the shoulder and park my vehicle. Once i opened the hood of my truck i found that a spark plug had blown out of the socket and had also broken the ignition coil, soon after i ran to turn the engine off, do to smell of gas fumes. Thinking this was a one time only incident and not knowing that ford had these problems. I had the truck towed to a mechanic only to hear that this was a common problem with the excursions for this year. I then paid a couple hundred dollars and thought the problem was fixed. Going back home and taking the highway back home another spark plug blew out and once again broke the ignition coil with it as well. I was furious to find out that ford has no re call and when i tried taking the truck to a pep boys auto or any other shop they told me that they would not lay a hand on the truck and that i had to take it to the ford dealer ship if i wanted to get it fixed. Not happy i called ford they wanted over $1,500 to fix the problem. This is really sad that this could possibly be the reason why i will possibly sell my truck and never buy ford again. But this is a real safety problem that needs to get fixed, or it may end up killing someone later down the road.

2000 ford excursion spark plug blown out of head on 9/30/2008 has not been fixed yet.

Louise sudduth had driven her 2000 ford excursion to sudduth farms in mayo, s.c.she had parked the vehicle, and the vehicle caught fire while it was not running.mrs. Sudduth received serious and ultimately fatal burns.

Dt: the oil panrusted and the consumer had it replaced.this was in a 2000 ford excursion.there were never any problems before.the consumer noticed that oil was leaking on the ground, and the vehicle was using more oil than usual.the price of $892.00 at ford to have it replaced.this could cause trouble on the road for others because it could result in a wreck with these cheap oil pans.*sc

A spark plug blew out of my 2000 ford excursion today on my way home. It was a loud bang, i thought the exhaust manifold cracked or muffler went. Apparently this is a common problem that ford will not repair. It will cost about $4500. To fix. I am very surprised that i did not hear this on the news, it has happened to many ford owners but never heard about it until i had this issue. It is very unfair that it is a common problem with ford and the government does not enforce a recall.ford recalled but did not correct the cruise control defect that could cause a fire.fire...that is enough reason to recall the vehicle.

Spark plug ejection 2000 ford excursion v10 6.8l.

2000 ford excursion v10 triton, #7 plug blew out of engine, 159,000mi on engine, plugs changed at dealer.repair was $300 for helicoil, plug, and coil for engine.no reason given for plug failure.immediate loss of power but was able to pull to side of highway.vehicle towed from site.

Ford excursion with the spark plug blowing out of the engine. This is a very common known defect in the ford 4.6, 5.4, & 6.8 liter engines and the government has done absolutely nothing to protect the citizens of this country from the fraud that has been sold to the american people. The average repair cost is over $3,000.00 to fix a ford design flaw and one that they should be held responsible for repairing. Since this would require the largest recall in world history our government sits by and does absolutely nothing to protect innocent lives that are in danger from these literal "time bombs" that can ignite escaping fuel vapors from the hole they just exited and burn a vehicle to the ground. It is disturbing that you are a government agency yet you refuse to do your job. Since the government is in the car business now and competing with foreign companies it is amazing that with little to no reported cases you will force them to repair gas pedals that were manufactured by amercans but you won't do anything when it involves legitimate problems with agarbage american product. And you wonder why the american cars have such a horrible reputation. Because they fully have earned it. They are garbage and they receive immunity from the government that protects them and not the people. You should be ashamed to cash your paycheck which comes from us the taxpayers. Please change your ways and do your job and protect innocent lives that god will surely hold you accountable for.

Our 2000 ford excursion keeps having the spark plugs shoot out of their holes damaging the head and individual spark plug coils (3 replaced so far).we have spent nearly $500 repairing the heads/coils so far.i expect additional plugs to fail on the v-10 engine.i am afraid of continued head and coil damage and even fuel line damage leading to an engine fire and total vehicle loss.i want ford to recall the vehicle and replace the heads with new heads with a better spark plug hole design.

Vehicle caught on fire while parked and turned off. The alarm was also on.the fire originated from the engine compartment on the driver's side, per the fire inspector.

2000 ford excursion v-10 ejected a spark plug while i was taking my kids to school this morning. This appears to be a known manufacturing flaw that ford refuses to stand up to. Cost to repair was quoted at $3,750. I believe that ford motor company should be held accountable for their inaction to correct a well documented defect.

Spark plug blow off.

Recently had #2 spark plug blow out of my excursion.

Oil leakages due toengine galley plug coming out of it housing on two other occasio.dealer notified, and unwilling to assist in this matter.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

I have owned by 2000 ford excursion with the triton 5.4 for 3 years.i have barely put 20,000 miles on it.it know has 110,000 mi. When the spark plug blew on it.i was driving down the road when i heard a loud popping noise and then sputtering.i had to have it towed to my mechanic and had a costly repair done.as i have done research on it this is a ongoing problem with fords because of the design flaw in the head.i am very disappointed to find out ford has not recalled this.there is thousands of complaints with the same problem.ford are you listening?when are you going to do something about this?if this is not recalled soon i will be trading this in and buying a chevy or a honda.no more fords for me.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. The contact stated that her vehicle caught fire while it was parked. The fire was under the drivers side wheel and then the entire engine was engulfed in flames. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report is available. An insurance adjuster willinspect the damages. The cause of the fire was unknown. There were no injuries. The manufacturer has not been notified. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 100,000.

While driving andwhen making a right or a left hand turn consumer has noticed a very loud knocking noise when turning. Consumer has contacteddealer.sway bar repaired.mounts, bushings, bolts and springs were missing.steering was lost twice.the dealer had tried to repair but the problem still continued.

The contact owned a 2000 ford excursion.while driving less than 55 mph, the vehicle shut off.the vehicle was left on the shoulder until a tow truck arrived.the vehicle then caught fire and a police report was filed.five months later, the contact was notified by the manufacturer that there was a recall on his vehicle that could result in a fire.his vin was included in the recall.the recall number was unknown.the failure and current mileages were over 100,000.

Spark plug blow out on 5.4 triton engine.

Spark plug blew out of my 2000 ford excursion v10 and i am now seeing that this is a growing problem with these engines. I have 5 trucks with these engine and now i am very worried.

My wife was driving the vehicle and she heard a "big pop". Vehicle became immediately disabled. She called tow company and sent to neighborhood ford dealer. They stated that a spark plug had popped out of the aluminum engine.i immediately thought "defect" as spark plugs should not be flying out of engine blocks. I took my complaint to the dealer customer service manager & owner.she (amanda) stated that there is a serious problem with ford engines and that this is problem that they know about. She said they know the threads were "too short" and that it could happen again at any time to other spark plugs. I fear for the safety of my family but with six kids we need the vehicle run our daily lives.i have been advised after the re-tapping "repair" at the dealership that the only ford authorized repair is a full replacement of the cylinder heads that would cost $ 6,000. This is a whole other issue. Please do not let them get away with this.i am informed that there are thousands of others that are having the same problem.

Having just made it over the mountain pass with no previous trouble, we stopped at gas station for more wiper fluid. When starting up our 2000 ford excursion a loud boom came from the truck.this startled us and others outside of vehicle including a sheriff that heard it and came next to us to see what is was. We immediately turned off vehicle - sheriff and passer bys thought maybe exhaust??we made it home but truck now sounds like a loud putt putt truck. We smelled fuel all the way home.as it turns out #10 sparkplug blew out hitting firewall.from two repair shops it is in a very difficult spot and is not likely will hold.so, we took it to ford dealership to see what they can do. We have been told by ford dealership that a "bandage fix" will probably not hold and other plugs could also blow or may not - apparently this is not new news to ford or the other repair shops we spoke with.so to replace just one side of head we are looking at $3680 or $5900 + for new engine. Vehicle is not worth that in trade in per ford dealership - even before blowout . Needles to say, we could have been on freeway and been forced off road (it was snowing badly and a bang that loud could have spooked many.) so that is why i stated there was a crash as there could have been if we had been driving.also, not sure if the fumes were cause of illness we had that evening and next day. We smelled fuel and smoke/exhaust all the way home. Also, plug was not found and may have damaged or injured someone or something else. It is very dangerous and irresponsible of ford to not recall this problem. Only to wait until someone tragically is injured or dies.it will happen. There is no control over where plug blows and what it will take out in its path.it seems this is and has been a problem with various model fords from 1999 to 2004.waiting for recall... Or ford to step up and repair this problem at their cost.this is not my design flaw!thank you for your help.

Cam position sensor on ford excursion power stroke diesel has gone out twice.the first time at 50,000 miles, while pulling a boat on a busy highway.luckily we were able to pull over, as the vehicle died.the second time it went was right at 100,000.

I own a 2000 ford excursion with the opt. 7.3 diesel engine. I have had 2 engine failures were my engine would quit and not restart. The cps (cam position sensor) failed. This is my wife's truck. When the engine just stops you must be prepared to take emergency action to keep the suv under control. I have talked to other owners that this has happened also in f250 and f350 pickups with the 7.3 motor.

Cps failed on 2000 ford 7.3l diesel.

Cam positioning sensor on my 2000 ford excursion 7.3 powerstroke failed, leaving me stranded.this is the second time this item has failed and needed to be replaced.i am advised that there are a number of failures with respect to the same part.

On 2/25/06 my wife was at work and called due to our 2000 ford excursion not starting.i then went to the vehicle and proceeded to change all filtration except the oil.it did run for a short time but died again.i continued to get it started after that and again dying after every short start.we eventually had to have it towed to faulkner ciocca ford in souderton pa.with us living in royersford pa it was some distance to the souderton shop.they were not able to work on it until monday 27th.the diagnosis was a camshaft position sensor.this is described in your findings under investigation pe06-011 by mr. Scott yon opened on 2/27/06.the resulting financial hit was $561.06 including the towing.not counting my time lost at work due to having to try to get the vehicle running since it was a saturday and having to change all filtration due to the unknown but pointing to fuel delivery.this was an additional $130.43 from napa in telford pa.

1) engine would stall or completely quit going down the road in traffic any were it wanted2)cam shaft position sensor was going out truck would stall3)ford service department changed cam shaft position sensor.

At 90,000 miles after my first "tune up" i blew a spark plug off of my head on my 2000 ford excursion.i was told by my local mechanic and many other people that ford's in this year range have been streaming into his shop with blown spark plugs.i also stated that ford is refusing to recognize this huge safety issue and that the government needs to get involved.please take this complaint seriously.my wife and 5 kids were in the car in a unknown area to them at 10:00pm when this breakdown occurred.this story is very similar to 1000's of other stories on the internet.just type in "blew a spark plug" into a search engine and start reading.

I had been out of town when my 2000 ford excursion had a door ajar dummy light fail to shut off.i attempted to figure out what was causing the door ajar light to remain on but never did find the problem.i ended up driving home so i could make an appointment with my dealer to have it checked out.i was able to get the truck home, but as i was driving through my subdivision my truck made a noise, then made a much louder noise, and began running really rough.a strong odor of fuel filled the passenger compartment of my truck.i immediately shut off the engine so my truck wouldn't ignite, but that left me stranded in the middle of the road.i have since been told that the triton v10 engine blew a spark plug and it's been quoted at $4200 to be repaired at the closest dealership and $3500 at the dealership where i purchased the truck but i have to have it towed again.

While driving 70 mphtook foot off acceleratorwhile getting ready to exit, and vehicle started to lose power, which it actually did. Also, stated by vehicle was stopped, it has lost power steering and v stalled. Had not contacteddealer.

Whenapplyingbrakes lost control ofvehicle. Engine slowed down.also, hesitated without prior notice.

I have had three spark plugs that blew out of the head. Ford does not state that this is a problem and the cost for repair is on the owner.

I own a ford excursion with a 6.8 v10 motor.while traveling on an interstate at posted speed one or more (waiting to here from repair shop) spark plugs were blown from the cylinder head without warning and could have caused a very serious accident.fortunately at the time i was able to pull over to the side of the road safely just avoiding a fast over taking transport truck.from what research i have done on the internet this is an all too common problem with the ford v10's and some v8's. I am now looking at a minimum of a replacement head and it might require a replacement motor.this is a safety issue and could have ended in an accident or fire.

While warming vehicle andwithout any indication vehicle stalled, and could not be restarted. Vehicle was towed to dealer, technician couldn't duplicate problem. Please provide further information.

Intermittentlyturbo-chargermalfunctioned, causing oil to leak from the vehicle andvehicle to stall.dealer has repaired the vehicle trhee times.

I own a 2000 ford excursion with a v10. While driving home from my son's track meet in a construction zone on i94 in mount clemens michigan during rush hour i had a spark plug blow out. We (my wife, my son and i) were moving about 10 miles an hour in the construction traffic when we began to slowly speed up. I accelerated and boom, there was a very loud sound of knocking. I nearly hit the dividing wall it scared me so bad. I was able to pull over about 150-200 feet ahead through the construction barrels. I opened my hood and discovered that one of my coil packs was sticking up a few inches and broken. I called my insurance company (usaa) for roadside assistance. Within an hour and a half they sent a tow truck and had me towed (about 7 miles) home. The next day i was able to better inspect what had gone wrong. The motorcraft spark plug had completely un-threaded itself and the compression of the motor turned the spark plug into a projectile that completely demolished the coil pack. The coil pack snapped from its retaining bolt and was beating against my fuel rail. Luckily i was able to pull over as soon as i did because i could only imagine if i had been in an area where i was traveling the actual 70 mph speed limit and the damage to my fuel rail could have been disastrous possibly causing a fire.i contacted russ milne ford in clinton twp michigan about this issue and they stated that it would cost over $1000 to replace the head and that it was caused by the threads on the head or improper torquing of the spark plug. I found that amazing since i had my truck serviced by them about a year before because of an slight engine knock that i had on the passenger side of the motor along with a few other minor things. They never were able to find the cause of the "engine knock". Unfortunately for me the engine knock was a sign of the pending failure that i wish had been discovered before the blow out. No repairs yet.

Tire jack of insuffcient capacity to handle load.vehicle fell off three times while trying to change tire.

Jack will not properly align with the pins on the suspension. Believed this could cause the vehicle to fall off jack while using.

Headlight switch feel off- i see ford was to notify customers in 2006 about this problem and they did not notify me.

The turn signal will intermittently stop working or not signal at all when the signal is activated in either direction (right or left turn). This will occur whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary. This has been occurring for over a year now.

Was driving, when i turned the lights on thay would not work. Center post of the plug that connects the headlight bulb burned off on both headlights at 115000 miles. Both headlights were not working. I replaced the plugs and the lights are working.

Car was stoped and i turned the lights on and the headlights would not turn on. The plug that the lights plug in to was replaced and the lights word. It seems that the center post on both of them had burned out.

Nob used to turn on and offheadlights broke off in consumer's hand.consumer can't grip nob to turn lights on and off.a tool has to be used to pull whats left out or in. Please provide any further information.

The head lights failed.

Dt: the headlight switch knob broke and separated from the switch. Consumer matched therecall campaign that was already in effect, but it does not cover the owners vehicle although the problemswere exactly the same. There were no problems or warnings before the knob broke.*sb

- the contact stated that the2000 ford excursion had a defective switch.the headlamp switchfractured and separated form the headlamp.he used a pair of pliers to turn what wasleft of the headlight switch to turn the lights on.the contact stated that he currently has 88,275 miles on. At the time of the first failure the vehicle had an odometer reading of 70,000 miles .he was informed by the dealership that there was recall01v075000.he was informed that this vehicle didn't qualify for the recall.the contact will be filing a complaint with the manufacturer and will submit with hard copy.

The experienced the same problem as stated in recall#01v075000, however the vehicle identification number was included.scc

I went to turn on my headlights and the knob broke. I am unable to turn on my headlights without using a pair of plyers. I have been trying to find a replacement knob and one is not available without buying from ford the whole headlamp switch for 85.00. All i need is a 5.00 knob. I saw on your website that certain 2000 ford excursions with this same problem were recalled to fix this problem. Ford is saying mine in not included in the recall. I don't understand that if this was a problem, how they can only recall certain ones.

While turning on headlightsswitchbroke off. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated vehicle was not on recall.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. The contact stated that the headlight switch detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the headlight switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

Dt*: the contact stated the knob for the headlights has detached from the vehicle.there is a nhtsa recall, # 01v075000, regarding the headlight switch.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion.as stated in nhtsa campaign id number 01v075000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch), the head lamp switch knob fractured and separated.the dealer and manufacturer informed the contact that his vin was not included in the recall.the failure mileage was 101,000 and current mileage was 101,650. While turning on headlamp switch it came off in my hand.took vehicle to dealer regarding recall #01s09 was told only vehicles built at kentucky plant 10/8 - 10/30/99 were covered.my vehicle was built 11/6/99.dealer refused to replace part free.

Head light switch knob fracture at dash board connection.headlight switch knob fell off.unable to turn headlights on - safety issue.other nhtsa that has same issue with same yr and model 01v075000. Ford says not according to my vin.

Button which turns on headlights broke off of switch. I found that there was a recall for 2000 excursions for this particular defect but when i went to the dealership and later called ford they claimed that my vehicle was not included in the recall. They insist that i have to buy the $85 headlight assembly just to get the $5 knob. I am currently using a pair of needlenose pliers to turn headlights on and off which is unsafe when driving.

While driving, the consumer was informed by a police officer that the tail lights and brake lights were inoperative.the consumer also stated the windshield wiper motor was inoperative and there was a recall on both problems.

1999-2003 diesel ford excursion and all f series with 7.3ltr turbo diesel.. Massive fuel leaks common . Passenger side high pressure line rubs through over time due to faulty bracketing leading to large fuel spill in upper valley ..hard to locate and easily overlooked.. Fuel pours down back of motor and could potentially ignite on exhaust.....exhausts commonly leak at flange at back of turbo housingon down pipe . Can potentially fill cab with co2 and bypasses all emissions controlsnumerous reports recorded on diesel forums ... Help!

A rat or a squirrel chewedup the fuel line, causing fuel to leak. Dealer notified. The fuel line was redesigned by ford. *ph

The tire failure was a blowout.the whole sidewall shredded.firestone said it was a road hazard even though we did not hit anything.ford would not replace because they don't cover tires.the fuel gauge was replaced twice by the dealer.the first time, the gauge read 1/4 tank left and it was dry.the second time the gauge read 1/4 tank and it was more than 1/2 full.the front stablizer assembly was popping so hard you could hear and feel it.the dealer replaced it.it seems to be popping again but i haven't taken it back in yet.i'm getting tired of taking it in.the rear side window motor was dying so i had it repaired.during repair, they noticed the glued piece that the motor attached to was coming off and had to replace the entire window.when does the lemon clause come into effect???( dot number: 008102 tire size: lt26575r16 )

Gasoline fuels smellinside of vehicle was caused by a cracked fuel tank. Dealership replaced the tank, but gasoline smellsare still inside ofvehicle.

Plastic assembly breaks when using standard diesel fill nozzle.when it is broken, there is no seal for the cap causing substantial amounts of fuel to leak when fuel surges up the fill tube during normal driving.this would also cause substantial fuel loss in an accident increasing risk of fire.nlm

Consumer is having electrical problems. There are a few items that don't even work at times, likedome light andinstrument panel.consumer has not contacted dealer.please provide further details.

I have a 2000 ford excursion and all my door locks do not work. It tries to lock and unlock them, but it does not have enough power or something. I have talked to other owners that have the same problem. I was just wondering why there hasnt beena recall if there are many people with the same problem.

Have 2000 ford excursion.i had the door lock actuators replaced in 2003.since then i now have 2 door locks and the rear tailgate that will not lock electronically.seems as though the electrical system is going out one thing at a time.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion. The contact stated that the four interior power door locks failed to unlock when activated. In addition, the trunk lid would not open when the key fob or trunk control release mechanism were engaged. In order to exit the vehicle, the contact had to manually unlock each door. Also, the trunk lid only opened when manually accessed with a key. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. The vin was unavailable.

Door lock actuators on driver's door, and rear passenger door do not work.must manually open and lock doors daily.

As a result of a tire blowout consumer ran into a wall and passenger's doors opened upon impact. Manufacturer was contacted. Please provide further information.

After using remote and keyless entry, doors appeared to be unlocked but the doors would not open. Finally the door lock released the door and gained access to the car interior.tried all 5 doors before drivers door finally opened.while driving, the door ajar light came on and the drivers door opened with no warning. This happened to both rear doors also.

I have a 2000 ford excursion 4x4. The problem is none of the door will lock or unlocked using keyless entry and door lock switch. I read that ford has a serious problem with the door lock actuators from many models of ford trucks for some time now. There are so many complaints out there about this problem with no one willing to help the consumer especially ford. With this said i have to wonder why the national highway traffic safety administration isn't helping !!!!!!!!! what will it take so the consumer can get help? a accident were someone must die because they were stuck in the back of the vehicle due to the doors not being able to unlock. I truly hope this will never happen to anyone owning a ford truck.

The power locks stopped working approximately a year after i purchased the vehicle.at first i thought it was the remote start changed battery, then the toggle switches inside the truck that control the locks also stopped working.contacting my local ford dealer and was told there was no recall on the truck.a friend of mine also has a 2000 ford excursion with the same problem.the locks have not been fixed because i was told they would have to do a diagnostic test before they can do anything.i would be responsible for the cost of that test.

After keyless entry lock was activated, all doors except the rear passenger side door failed to lock.dealership indicated that the door power motor went out.consumer had motor replaced.provide more details.ts

I am the owner of a 2000 ford excursion (diesel). Since owning the vehicle i have had a continuous problem with the automatic door locks. When they fail, persons can not enter or leave the car. Two years ago i took the vehicle to the ford dealer so they could repair or replace two failed doorlock mechanisms. Instead of replacing only the two failed components, they replaced all 4 doors (not the hatch) and told me they know the others will fail as well. Now the rear passenger door lock and the hatch door lock do not work. I went back to the dealer and they told me the cost of the repair is $1500. They indicated the problem was ramped among similar vehicles with the same door lock mechanisms but they would not honor the repair or replacement as a faulty component problem. I have since contacted several other auto repair businesses in my area and learned they have a fairly steady flow of business related to ford door lock malfunctions. I have three small children as do many families choosing to purchase larger ford suvs. The kids get into the habbit of relying on the automated doorlocks controlled by the adults in the front seats. In the event of an automobile fire type of accident the adults would probably rely on the doorlock mechanisms as well. The kids may not be able to get out and the rescuers would not be able to get in without using force.by the statements given to me by the ford dealership employees, the unreliable doorlock mechanisms used by ford is a well established dealer problem, but it has not been addressed as a recall item. I feel that ford, knowing about the faulty component should recall the doorlock mechanisms and replace them with with a more reliable component.i have a lifetime number of vehicles. One of my vehicles is a 1990 chevy k5 blazer. I have never had any problems with any automatic doorlock mechanisms before purchasing the ford excursion. Sincerely, greg gay.

Our transmission on our ford 2000 excursion keeps going out. On dangerous two lane mountain roads where the vehicle takes up the entire lane and i always have children in the car.i am on my third transmission and my three year old son now asks if the car is going to break down each and everytime we get into the vehicle.i'm afraid to go anywhere.the problem is this as i see it.the clutch on the fan that cools the transmission kicks on at 40 mph, also the cooler is too small for the size of engine and transmission, and i'm tired of putting after market equipment on a vehicle that i paid so much for.on mountainous two lane roads you never get the vehicle up to 40 mph thus making the vehicle labor and run hot, thus causing the transmission to boil and fall apart inside.the engineers should know of this problem it is with the diesel engine that this occurs.i have a friend with an f250, same chassis as my excursion and he is on his fifth transmission.my fear is twofold, that i will break down again on these dangerous mountain roads and cause an accident, also my vehicle will soon be out of warranty allowing ford to be off the hook.i still have to pay for my expensive vehicle whether it performs or not and i feel this is a severe problem and safety issue that needs to be rectified, we paid a lot for this vehicle to be performing so poorly.*nlm

About a month ago my 200 ford excursion service engine soon light came on. Then 2 days later my overdrive light started flashing and it would jerk when changing gears.the ford dealership where i live has had it in and out of the shop 4 times with no remedy.i have already spent $400.00 with it not fixed.front speed sensor and the rear sensor have both been replaced.also transmission fluid was drained and replaced.i then came across many other ford owners that have had this same problem.

2000 ford excursion, unit 1 was driving eastbound onthe ohio turnpike in the middle lane when the left front axle broke causing the wheel to come off.vehicle came to final rest on the south side shoulder. The left front axle had broken off, the left front rotor to the wheel was damaged and the left front side of the bumper was slightly dented inward toward the body of the vehicle. (ohio traffic crash report # 10-0303-90)

This is a 2000 ford excursion limited 4x4, v-10.the truck has 38,000 miles and is well maintained. There were no signs of leaking prior to failure. The only symptoms was a "knock" intermittently several thousand miles prior to failure, but no cause for the sound could be found on inspection.at the time of failure, the u-joint at the end of the axle shaft had 1/4" free play in it in all directions and came within 1/4" of hitting the bolt/nut assembly just below it. That nut holds the lower portion of the wheel spindle bracket in place.this is a potentially dangerous situation because if the bolt was hit by the u-joint with enough force, it could shear off causing the wheel to come off of the vehicle and lead to a crash.the vehicle is at the dealership for repair. However, since the actual failure happened after the 36,000 mile mark neither the dealer nor ford will pay for any part of the repair.both ford and the dealer service department, do not know why the bearing failed. Nor do they know of any preventive measures.the vehicle has not been off roading beyond dirt roads and is running stock sized tires.

I own a 2000 ford excursion and have had problems with the rotors warping since new. The dealers have said i was the only one with this problem but after seeing this web site i see that is not true. The rotors have been replaced twice have been turned at least every 15,000 miles since new i have around 80,000 miles now. The dealer did the brakes three times until the warrnty ran out at 36,000 miles i have had them fixed myself since then. Front manual hubs on 2000 ford 4wd. Excursion seem to break apart frequently. U joints on front end makes noise everytime i make a sharp turn. Does not sound right.

Vehicle had audible noise and vibration, driveshaft was removed from 2001 model on lot and placed in my vehicle, driveshaft was noticeably different than the one removed from my vehicle. Still have vibration at speeds 55- 70. Dealer refuses to work on this vehicle any more to correct this problem.this truck only has 5700 mi. On it.they replaced the driveshaft at 46or 4700. We are afraid to drive this vehicle on any major trips.

Driveshaft fell out while vehicle in use due to insufficient tightness of bolts.

The contact owns a 2000 ford excursion.while driving 50 mph she experienced a frontal vehicle crash. The vehicle was completely destroyed and none of the air bags deployed. The front right seat occupant had used the seat heater. The next day, the seat cover and cushion was burned through. The vehicle was parked in the driveway at home. Apparently the heating element caught fire.

Middle seat after laying down to carry cargo will not lock into place and seat slams into back of front seats and console, seat belt smashed passengers when seat projects forward at a high rate of speed

The passenger seat warmer started turning off and on at its own will. Eventually the set got so hot it started smoldering. Upon pulling the leather back we found the foam material to be burning away. Took an extinguisher to put fire out.have removed fuse so future occurrences don't happen.

Front passenger seat caught fire and burned a hole in the seat with my daughter seated in it while we were driving.

Turned on my heated drivers seat as i left my driveway, shortly after i smelled something burning.pulled into store parking lot, turned excursion off, got out, thinking it was something in the engine or brakes. Didn't find anything.finished my day, arrived home and notice a blackish brown area on drivers seat.further inspection was that the seat had a burnt area.thank goodness when i pulled into the parking lot earlier that i turned the excursion off thus disengaging the heat seat.otherwise i feel the excursion would have caught on fire.

Headrests are not available for any of the 3rd seat benches.this could cause spinal injuries in a crash especially for children.

It's happened be for but never so scary. We were coming down one of the mountains on highway 299. We were, doing the speed limit of 55. And as we applied the brake it started pulling to the right. Like it was gonna go off the road. It also was vibrating so bad it felt like it was going to fall apart. We pulled over checked for loose bolts. Tire imperfections but nothing.

I purchased this truck 3 months ago from mike marooney north. When i got home i noticed it would not stayin park at all. This caused it to roll down the street with my baby in it. I have made over 50 attempts to get the dealer to put me in a safe vehicle or refund the $3200 back. They refuse to call me back or email me. They told me it was fixed after 3 days but it wasnt.

When applied the brake at any speed vehicle vibrate. Dealer notified. Please provide further information.

On 04/28/2000, i was towing my boat and trailer to lake erie on ohio state route 11 north when my rig suddenly began to fishtail extensively in perfect road and whether conditions and at a speed of approximately 50mph.i immediately applied electric trailer brakes to all four trailer wheels which did operate but to no avail. I then tried to hold the brakes on the trailer and also apply acceration to the truck to pull this rig out of the fishtail.within a matter of 5 seconds or less, i was thrown off the right side of the road into the hillside with a blown right rear tire on the truck.having pulled boats and trailers all of my life i couldn't figure out why this rig got away from me so fast, especially at the speed i was going.after everything about firestone tires that came out in the following months, i feel that something definitely happened to this tire to cause the accident.after getting the truck repaired and then checking the consumer report's website about tires, i decided to check out the dot dates of the tires that remained on the truck and found out that all these tires that were installed as original equipment were manufactured in early 1990.as far as i'm concerned, this is fraud and negligence on both firestone's and ford's part since they sold and put outdated tires on this new truck.i emailed a complaint to ford's customer service with the same information that i am providing you, but it was to no avail.at this time i'm looking into possibly filing a suit against both ford and firestone. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at home or work. Thank you. Robert e. Archer, d.d.s. (tiresize: 265/75rx16)( dot number: tire size: 265/75rx16 )

Extended braking distances reported to dealership within first 20,000 kms. Impossible to invoke antilock pulsing on hard braking on dry pavement. Dealer checked full brake system and found no problems. Aftermarket pads improved the problem.repeated warping of rotors for the first 50-60,000 kms, then mysteriously only minor warping on extended brake use.

Vehicle pulls left while braking, and paint is peeling in the wheel wells.*mrthe problem was confirmed by the dealer's technician who made recommendations to correct the problems.due to the excessive cost the consumer decided to have the vehicle repaired at a local repair shop.the repair shop corrected the problem that the dealer recommended but that did not resolve the issue.the vehicle was returned to the dealer who explained that the repair would be costly.the consumer later received a service bulletin (03-19-10 dated september 9, 2003) which was in reference to a braking problem.the consumer does not feel comfortable driving the vehicle.

Problemsexperienced with brakes on 2000 ford excursion. A squealing and clunking noise could be heard while applying the brakes.the vehicle has an extended warranty but the dealer refuses to repair the problems.the consumer has replaced the rotors (twice), pads and other components.

2000 ford excursion with less than 100,000 miles, well maintained and original owner. Brakes failed when rear brake line burst on the frame rail while applying the brakes to slow, this was not a panic stop which would induce a high pressure in the line. I was able to make a safe stop and was perplexed by this failure. There was no early warning of this failure and in fact the vehicle was at the dealer two days prior for oil change and new batteries and no mention of low brake fluid or leak in the brake system. After consulting with local repair facilities they state this is a known problem, i do not believe a vehicle that is properly maintained should have a sudden and catastrophic brake line failure that is only 10 years old and i'm sure there must be accidents related to similar vehicles.

Vehicle was parked in my garage.i was in the garage at the time.began smelling burning electrical smell.found white smoke coming out of engine compartment, increasing dramatically in volume.in just a few moments, the smoke was a solid curtain coming from the gap between the hood and driver side front fender.opened hood and found an electrical switch on the brake system master cylinder creating the smoke.using a rag i pulled the switch away from the cylinder and it was melted in half.the part of the switch connected to the electrical wire continued to smoke.i disconnected the remaining piece of the switch from the wire and it stopped smoking but everything was hot.

Concerned about rotors needing to be replaced at 38,30 miles and brakes have been replaced also i am concerned that this will be ongoing thing and concerned about my familys safety, hope to hear from you very soon.

Undernormalbraking procedures vehicle will pull too abruptly to the left, possibly causing loss ofcontrol. Dealer and manufacturer cannot determine and fix the defect.*ml

While traveling heard a loud noise.when depressing the brakes the noise stopped. Dealer has repaired vehicle, butproblem returned. Please provide further information.

During braking vehicle will pull to the right typically, however,it will pull to the left on occasion. Vehicle pulls when brakes are applied.severity of this pulling increases withhardness of braking. Dealership has examinedvehicle, and lubricatedcalipers as well as replaced and rotatedbrake pads.please provide any additional information/attachments.

When consumerapplies brakes vehicle vibrates and pulsates. Also, vehicle pulls toleft and right. Dealership is aware ofproblem.

While applying the brake pedal vehicle failed to respond .also, brake light appeared on the dashboard without prior warning.

Consumer stated that when applying brakes, vehicle pulls significantly into on coming traffic or to the left. Dealer notified, but unable to fix the problem.

While passing on a two lane road, the vehicle i was passing swerved into my lane. I had to apply the brakes very forcefully and when i did so, the brakes pulled the steering so hard to the left i nearly lost controlof the vehicle. Following this situation i tested both my excursion and my ford f-350 and both vehicles swerve hard to left during forceful emergency braking. I should also note that at 36,000 miles, my excursion was serviced under warranty for brake pulling and pulsating. The rotors and pads were replaced however, i do not believe this warranty service is related to the severe pulling during emergency braking. I believe the braking problem is structural in origin and is going to result in some number of fatalities. I know that it my case, i came to the brink of an unsurvivable accident.

During the first three months of ownership this vehicle was returned to three different ford delerships to coorect poor breaking performance.during hard braking the vehicle pulls hard to the left.at each dealership the rotors were turned and swapped from side to side, the pads were replaced and the suspension was realigned.during one occasion i almost lost control of the vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic on a two lane road.i was told by greenway ford, during one of the visits in early 2001. That this is a known problem by ford and their engineers are studying the problem.the final result of each repair has been the same the vehicle continues to pull hard to the left during hard braking.now at 31500 miles the vehicle suddenly began to sudder uncontrollably while braking.the vehicle was taken back to a ford dealership where the rotors were turned. The pads had minimal wear.i was told by the dealership that ford excursions require the rotors to be turned yearly.this condition is a safety hazard and needs to be corected.dt

Front rotors continually warping regardless of driving habits.turned rotors twice in less than 10,000 miles and replaced them once.i was told by the dealer, it was due to the rotors being too small for such a heavy vehicle.

I own a 2000 ford excursion and have had problems with the rotors warping since new. The dealers have said i was the only one with this problem but after seeing this web site i see that is not true. Also i had the bearings go out in the right front wheel almost leading to the tire falling off if my wife had not noticed it in time. The rotors have been replaced twice have been turned at least every 15,000 miles since new i have around 80,000 miles now. The dealer did the brakes three times until the warrnty ran out at 36,000 miles i have had them fixed myself since then. This truck is said to be heavy duty and i only tow a camper with it twice a year 60 mile round trip i feel like i should not be having this kind of problem. The severe shaking that is caused by this makes if difficult to drive for my wife since she is the primary driver of the car. I cannot wait till my lease runs out so i can get rid of this car. The dealers will not help me at all. Thank for and help you might can givewilliam andrews

The consumer took the vehicle to thedealership for an inspection.the mechanic informed the consumer that both front rotors cracked. The consumer had the rotors replaced. The consumer had continuous problems with the brakes and rotors.

The rear windshield wiper does not operate due to the spring. Also, the brakes do not function properly due to the brake rotors. The vehicle will not stop accordingly.

Several thousand miles later the problem recurred. He took the vehicle to the dealership again. This time it was the rear wheel rotors. The rotors were turned. The third time he took the vehicle to the dealerhave it serviced. This time the brake pads, and rotors were turned. The dealership told himit was the design of the brake system, the rotors were too small for the brake system. All repairs have been made at the contactedexpense. Updated 1/19/2006 - the front rotors warped which caused pulsation while braking.

Front disc brake rotors warp under normal driving conditions. This results in extremely violent shuddering and shaking of the steering wheel while braking at speeds over 40 mph. Rapid braking at freeway speeds are high risk for loss of control and collision. Because of safety concerns i have had the rotors resurfaced at 16, 000and 25,000 mi. At 31,000 miles i had to replace the rotors because of repeated shuddering from rotorwarpage and wear. I have asked four other excursion owners and they have the same complaints and safety concerns requiring similar repairs.front rotors are insufficiently engineered for the size and weight of this vehicle, and presents a safety risk for excursion owners as well as surrounding motorists. Even when serviced properly as outlined, shuddering returns quickly.

The front rotors were badly warped at 18,000 miles. The dealer replaced the rotors under warranty, but are warped again at 23,000 miles. Poor design and a safety hazard. *la

I too have experienced warped rotors under normal operation.i have owned my 2000 excursion since new and have already had my rotors resurfaced once. They lasted approximately three months before having to have them done again.my last visit cost me $500 and i expect nothing less from the dealer this time.the harmonic period seems to be most pronounced when braking at 50 mph with the severity decreasing at a standard bell curve above and below that speed. I am concerned of my safety when having to brake at highway speeds from loss of control or failure.based on the complaints i have viewed, i would be in favor of a class-action suit with a redesign or buy-back remedy.

Brake rotors have been examined by two dealerships for excessive wear and vibrations during application ofbrakes.rotors were turned with approximately 20,000 miles onvehicle. Brakes then failed with approximately 24,000 miles onvehicle, andsecond dealership replacedbrakes. Front disc brake rotors warp under normal driving conditions. This results in extremely violent shuddering and shaking of the steering wheel while braking at speeds over 40 mph. Rapid braking at freeway speeds are high risk for loss of control and collision.i bought this excursion used with ~48,000 miles and have had the rotors resurfaced at ~ 60, 000 and 84,000 mi. At 93,000 miles i had to replace all 4rotors because of repeated shuddering from rotor warpage and wear which cost me over $500 on top of the $400 i spent at 84,000 miles for a brake job. Six months and 14,000 miles later i am having the same problem and now the dealer tells me there is a ford service bulletin recommending a new type of pad. They also told me they havefour other excursion owners that are having the same complaints and safety concerns requiring similar repairs. The front rotors are insufficiently engineered for the size and weight of this vehicle, and presents a safety risk for excursion owners as well as surrounding motorists. Ford knows they have a problem but instead of doing the right thing and fixing it they are bleeding consumers for repairs of a faulty design while the government does nothing about it.

Consumer hit a pothole. Back of car lifted, and when it came down, back went to the left or right instead of coming straight down. This caused consumer to lose control of steering.

Since this vehicle was new, it is often impossible to steer if you are stepping on the brakes at the same time.this occurs at low speed, fortunately, but it is still a hazard.two ford dealers have told me that there is nothing they can do about it, ford will not fix it and "they are all that way."i consider this a serious safety defect.

My suv drives very unstable at any speed.it seems to bounce while going down a flat smooth road.bob bell ford had it for 1 week and finally found the problem when i wrote a letter demanding that they either figure out the problem or give me a new truck.1/2 hour after my telephone call to them where in they advised me they had no idea what the problem was but that they had the entire truck tore apart, and 1/2 hour after receiving my letter making a demand, they figured out the so-called problems.the sway bar was upside down and they said something about bolts not being put in at the assembly line and that is why we were getting a clanking noise.we picked up the truck, only to have it begin again the next day.if you go over a speed bump slowly or go up a dip, etc. The truck bounces you all over the place, as if it is going to roll.when you put the brakes on it shakes violently, and bounces to the point it is as though the brakes are being bounced from stopping the truck.i am scared something is wrong and it is going to cost my family, me or someone else their life.ford has no idea what the heck is wrong, they tell us all sorts of off the wall reasons.at first they even said oh we don't see a problem, but then after saying they did not see a problem they tore my truck apart.explain that, why would you tear my truck apart if you don't see a problem.it took them one week and it still is not fixed.i purchased a $38,000.00 suv that vibrates all over the place, is very difficult to stop because of the vibration and bounces when you are driving down the road, in other words i am driving a roller coaster on wheels that is going to come off the track and kill people.if nhtsa can help, we would be truly grateful.someone has to find out what is wrong with my truck before it kills us or someone else. Vehicle has very poor handling on rough roads. Dealer installed steering stabilizer which has helped with the vibration in the steering wheel, however, the vehicle still experiences a loss of control on bumpy road surfaces. Auguts 7, 2001 - traveling on a highway with speed limit of 65mph and the temperature was 101.approximately 25 minutes into my drive i notice vibration in my steering wheel and the vehicle felt like it had a scuttle shake which continued to get worse.i stopped and looked at my front tires and underneath the front end for any obvious defects. Didn't look at the back tires closely becausei assumed it was a front end problem due to the steering wheel vibration. When i got back on the highway the problem was getting worse (shaking harder)so i stopped once again to look at the front end. Ihappened to take a look at the rear tires while standing a distance away from the vehicle.mydriver's side rear tire tread was severly warped.firestone dealer replaced tire immediately. Ifeel that if i had ignored these obvious warning signs and kept on driving,i would have had a blow out at highway speeds. The high temperature was most likely a factorin the tire's failure. This vehicle shakes, rattles and rolls constantly , alignment 3 seperate times, extremely hard too stop, nothing but problems with frame and chassis. I am currently waiting for a dsb hearing in regards to ford repurchasing vehicle as previously they denied repurcahe of vehicle. I have also submitted all of my repair orders to ford for review and i am told i will have to testify at the dsb hearing and havent received a date for same. This vehicle is the worst too try and control, stop or drive due to steering whhel shakes, frame stability and lack there of.

The design of the front suspension with a solid front axle is not sufficient for the vehicle, steering stability and integrity of handling are dangerous, ill designed and very disconcerting to drive. *mjs

I am the owner of a 2000 ford excursion that is 11 months old with 20,700 miles. I have just dropped my truck off yesterday for routine service where i purchased it (gladstone ford, londerry, new hampshire). I have a complaint regarding the firestone steeltek r4s tires that came as standard equipment on my ford excursion. My tires are so worn that the service manager at the dealership said that i probably will not get the winter out of them. I have also complained to him that when we drive at highway speeds that the whole truck starts to shake. This is the second time that we complained to the service department that the shake is getting worse. I am also concerned because we heard on the television on friday evening 09/29/00 that the nhtsa is investigating these tires for possible defects. Is the shaking a sign of the tread coming apart? i am very concerned that the winter is fast approaching, and my wife, who is the primary driver, depends on this vehicle to drive our four children around for various activities. I rotate the tires at 5000 mile intervals and keep the air pressure at the recommended specifications as required by the ford motor co. I am a former mechanic and always maintain my vehicles in top condition. This truck has never been used in an off-road environment. I am surprised that these tires are wearing down so quickly. I would like information on what i am to do, as the dealer says that i must contact firestone. At the dealership we tried to look up the expected mileage that i am to get out of these tires, but we could not find this information anywhere. I am very surprised that ford selected these tires if they are only to get 20,000 miles of wear. I spent over $43,000 for this truck, and i expect to get better wearing tires than the steeltek r4s.( dot number: )

Replacement of firestone tires initiated by recall of 2/26/04. I replaced these tires in 2001 at 17,200 milesbecause of safety concerns.at that time there were many complaints to nhtsa and shortly thereafter an investigation was open.ford now uses e rated tires on the excursion which run at higher tire pressure.once again ford did not outfit the vehicle with a proper tire for the weight of the vehicle, rather opting for a smoother ride of a d rated tire.they were doing this because the front springs were also inadequate for a good ride.the used e rated tires on the f250 and f 350 from which the excursion is based.

Fortunately for my family and i, we were traveling along a straight section of turnpike just south of tulsa, ok at approximately 65-70mph.without warning, the right rear tire blew out.the sidewall is completely detached from the tread.the tread on the tire is fine and there were no punctures or other defects in the tire.it took the tire to two separate tire dealers (not firestone) for their opinions.both indiciated that the tire suffered from a total sidewall failure on the outside of the tire.both dealers examined the tire for punctures, etc.there were none.i took the vehicle and tire to the dealership for assistance.so far, they've been incredibly reluctant to assist.they have agreed to replace the one tire.however, i live in fear of placing my family of five in my practically new $40,000 vehicle.i have zero confidence in these tires and have ordered replacement tires (non-firestone of course).the primary reason i purchased this vehicle was safety on the road with my family, now i don't have that peace of mind with these tires.i've researched similar information on the internet after this occurrence and found at least 6 photos and reports of the exact same type of tire failure of this tire. I'd hate to imagine what would have happened if this had been on a curved section of highway at approximately the same speed if the blowout had been on the front outside tire.my family and i probably wouldn't be around to report this to you.i'm very concerned and upset with ford, firestone, and the nhtsa for not pursuing this with more vigor to date.ford has indicated to me, these tire failures are within acceptable industry standards and they don't want to set a precedent by replacing my tires.how many people have to die before these tire failures fall outside "acceptable industry standards". This is our second tire blowout and third tire problem with these firestone steeltex a/t tires. The 1st blow out i contacted firestone and even sent them what was left of the tire and all i received back was a form letter stating that the tire was driven on while under inflated. Which i know is not true because i check the tires before going on any road trip and inflate to the recommended pressure. The first blow out was november 1, 2001 while my wife was driving the excursion and this time i was driving it going around 75 mph. Both times, the tire has caused damage to the vehicle. My wife and i feel lucky that both times we were able to control the vehicle and bring it to a stop safely. But i can easily see how someone could loose control under this situation. You need to get all of these tires off the road immediatly. I believe these tires are dangerous not just to the drivers of the vehicles, but also to anyone else on the road with them. Please contact me if you have any further questions.sincerely:ken lubbering.

On sat. (08/10/02) my family and i decided to take a leisurely drive into the hill country just outside of austin, texas.i was driving my 2000 ford excursion on hwy 71, westward at an approx speed of 65 when the front right tire completely separated from its tread.this occurred unexpectedy for there was no debris on the road and no object was hit or struck.the seperated tread tumbled over and over in the wheel well area causing extensive damage to vehicle. I narrowly escaped hitting oncoming traffic and managed to limp the vehicle over to the shoulder.the tire remained inflated - no blow out, tread simply came apart!after recovering tread from roadway, the tire was changed with spare and further limped back to austin to original dealership.dealer service manger reviewed damage as well as drew my attention to opposite front left tire which appeared to have a "bubble" on its tread.the excursion, under factory warranty and the firestone steeltex a/t lt 265/75r16 tiresoriginal tires purchased with vehicle - i assumed ford would pay to replace tires and fix damage to vehicle.i am not pleased to report ford is pointing finger at firestone and informs me any damage claims must be directed to firestone hq.i filed incident report #818333 with firestone and was required to ship both tire & tread to their hq.after only 1/2 day investigation - firestone mailed form letter in return stateing "..tire failure did not result from defect in either materials or workmanship".but rather "insufficient air pressure". This is not true.i am meticulous in the care and maintence to this vehicle including its tires.pressure was checked just prior to our outing that same day.i would never put my family at risk due to negligence on my part.its sad to see neither firestone nor ford take any responsiblity for these defective tires.

I purchased this truck 3 months ago from mike marooney north. When i got home i noticed it would not stayin park at all. This caused it to roll down the street with my baby in it. I have made over 50 attempts to get the dealer to put me in a safe vehicle or refund the $3200 back. They refuse to call me back or email me. They told me it was fixed after 3 days but it wasnt.

I was driving on the interstate when the first incident happened doing about 65 mph, i noticed my truck started driving funny so i slowed down and i head i loud pop. Knew right then and there i blew a tire on the rear. Had a hard time trying to get to the side of the shoulder. It caused alot of damage to the rear fenders, back bumper, bent my rimscratches all down the side and window. Its was just me and my boyfriend at the time. The 2nd incident happened with 6 kids under the age of 5 in the truck. This time it [xxx] near flipped us. Had a hard time controlling the truck but managed to get it to a safe place. This cause damaged under my truck and ripped my running board and attaches to my rim.so i blew 2 tires that were in good shape that had been checked in 3 days.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On october 11, 2010, i was driving myself and my two children; mason 10 and preston 8, to their karate lessons.i was traveling down interstate 20 just west of fort worth, when i experienced a catastrophic tire failure on our 2000 ford excursion.i was unable to maintain control of the vehicle, and the next thing i knew we had hit an eighteen wheeler, started rolling and landed upside down on the side of the highway.by the grace of god no one was injured in this accident!however, the events that led up to this accident, and the behavior of the companies and individuals responsible for it are extreme examples of the worst in human behavior.approximately 4 days prior to the accident we suffered a flat tire on our vehicle.my husband placed the spare tire on the vehicle.the running tire was going to require a replacement and a tire was ordered from our local tire shop.when my husband placed the spare tire on the vehicle he checked for proper inflation and made the necessary corrections.in fact, all of the tires were checked again for proper inflation, prior to us leaving on the above mentioned trip. After the accident my husband noticed the way that the tire had failed.all of the tread separated and the air pressure was lost instantaneously.since that day we have discovered the following:our 2000 ford excursion was originally equipped with firestone steeltex a/t lt265/75r16 tires, which included the full size spare tire.this tire was the subject of a recall by the national highway traffic safety administration on february 26, 2004.recall number 04t003000this recall was the result of a high number of catastrophic tire tread separation failures on the affected tires.an internal e-mail from ford was sent to dealers to advise them of the appropriate measures they needed to take to help in facilitating in the recall. Nothing was done!

My 2000 ford excursion has a defective paint application, resulting in lack of adhesion. Large chunks are lifting off and the entire surface is at risk. The roof and hood are exhibiting the worst problems. I have been advised by auto body specialist including ford's own designated, that the problem stems from a manufacturing issue. The car obviously recieved too much paint.discovered on 2/21/03. Catastrophic failure of the paint on the hood has been suggested by experts -- could be a severe safety problem at speeds.

While driving to work smelled burning odor from ac vents.when stopped at work, smoke was pouring out from under the hood.shut off ignition and raised hood.speed sensor deactivation switch was smoldering.reached in with rag to disconnect electrical plug to switch and plug fell off in hand (melted).

Have had my excursion recalled for 2 years now for a faulty cruise control.had it disconnected in 9/2007. Ford keeps putting me off getting in fixed.they are now telling me that the parts will not be avail until 6/2008.

On 26jan06 i took my 2000 ford excursion limited edition to eddie yalklin ford dealership in kingsville texas for a safety inspection of my suv due to the fact that i had a fire and smoke coming from under the hood of the excursion after a trip. When i took the excursion and they inspected it they could see where the fire had started, it was coming from a switch that is located on the brake master cylinder body area.i told them that the only way i was able to stop the smoke and fire from starting was to disconnect the electric wire connector which was from the cruise control switch from the brake master cylinder system. After going over all this with the service rep. They told me that this was not a problem and that there were no recalls at this time. Well i told him that i knew about the other ford trucks and suv that had the same problem and some did hurt people because the cars caught on fire in the garage and well you know where im going with this and the service rep. Said that they would be replace the defective parts but that i would have to pay. I told them no that why should i pay for something that is a safety defect from ford and i was not going to pay for that. I explained to the service rep. That now the brake fluid was leaking out also and that if i loose my brakes what was going to happen. They just acted like it was no big deal and said that i would have to pay to get it fixed. This is as we all know a safety hazard and ford knows about the problem and knows how fires have killed people and hurt many of them and i don't want to be a victim.

My cruise control malfunctioned and about 3 months later a fire broke out while parked for 5 minutes.my wife smelled something coming from suv and saw smoke start to come from driver side of engine compartment, immediately after she saw the glow on street from fire break out (9:00pm). Fire dept was unable to open hood because of cable damage due to fire.the fire dept said it was some type of electrical failure. I now know that the cruise control switch mounted on brake master cylinder caused a fire to start. I previously noticed while toping up my fluids there was moisture around the pressure switch and it was brake fluid. I hope ford is held responsible and repairs my vehicle, and every one else who is going through this rolling fire hazard.

Dt*:the contact stated after the vehicle wasparked for 20 minutes it caught on fire.the fire department responded and extinguished the fire before extensive damage was done.it was evident the fire started at the cruise control deactivation switch.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v388000, regarding the cruise control.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

On friday may 12th my wife had picked up the kids from school and returned home around 3:10 p.m. Parking our ford excursion in the garage. Around 4:15 p.m. A cable tv technician pounded on the front door and indicated there was a fire in the garage. My sons opened the door between the garage and house and saw a fire coming out of the excursion at the front drivers side tire. One of the boys ran next door and called 911 the other went to the back yard and got my wife. My wife ran into the house and opened the door to the garage and saw flames coming out of the hood of the excursion. She shut the door and started looking for the phone, the cable tv technician yelled at my wife to get out of the house at which time she left the house and went across the street. The fire spread from the vehicle to the structure. The fire blew out the window to the garage and spread to our boat that was stored next to the house. The fire fighters were able to put the fire out just as it burnt through the door between the garage and the house.

After parking the vehicle for 20 minutes, then, while walking to the vehicle, the consumer smelled smoke coming from under the hood.the hood would not open.the fire department responded, and the fire was put out.there was minimal damage.thecruise control module was the causeof the fire.per theinvoice, the wiring going to the cruise control de-activation switch caught fire.the deactivation switch and harness was replaced. *sc

Consumer states while at a stop and foot on the brake the vehicle surged forward, and the vehicle idols very high. Please add any additional information.ph

My 2000 excursion was parked in the yard and we had just unloaded groceries. The2 bottom doors were closed on the back of the vehicle and then the top door/window was closed normally as we always do and the whole window just shattered into 1000's of pieces.my husband jumped back when the glass started flying and falling sono one was injured. Thishappened once....window is still not replaced. I don't have the money to do it.that happened at the end of march. Two days ago, while the car was sitting in the driveway in front of the garage, overnight sometime, the right rear window did the same thing and shattered for no apparent reason. Now i have two windows gone and am unable to use my car.this happened on the night of the 22nd into the 23rdof may 2009 the windows were open enough for ventilation. Temp again was moderate, about 65-68.i don't understand this.now i wonder when the next one will disintergrateand this vehicle is not even 10 years old. I feel the ford company should do something about this. This car is not abused in any way and this should not have happened.

Consumer stated the rear window shattered.

Vehicle has three back doors. Top one made of glass, and two bottom ones.bottom one has to be closed first, then topped with the glass.but, situation was different because glass one was closed first, then bottom shattered glass into pieces, injuring consumer at the time of picking it up. Consumer has since found that if the top door is down, the bottom door strikes the edge of he glass so quickly and so far over, it is not something one can prevent once the door starts to close, consumer feels this is a design flaw.

The rear windshield wiper does not operate due to the spring. Also, the brakes do not function properly due to the brake rotors. The vehicle will not stop accordingly.

I contacted the ford hot line, they said this is a normal condition.the blurred vision in thier side viewmirrors does not present a safety isue at "this time". I feel not being able to adequately judge the distance of other vehicles on the sides of such a large vehicle, at night, does present a major safety issue. This could result in a serious accident given the size of this vehicle.

Windshield cracked when sprayed with cold water while washing vehicle, when new windshield was installed installer said he had seen other s.d. Ford trucks with same problem seems lack of silicone adhesive allows glass to come in contact with frame and can allow glass to be "etched" by frame and weakens area.all trucks are manufactured at same plant.

Wife driving children to school, wipers unknowingly frozen to window and wipers unknowingly on intermittent cycle, wipers finally unfrozen and moved, meanwhile smoke filled the cabin, smelling like soldering fumes.turned off wipers and smoke stopped. Later, tested wipers, and they would not stop.took vehicle into dealer, and had a pending recall repaired, at the same time we had to have themultifunction switch replaced, and wiper motor replaced.dealer service technician advised that gem module was functioning correctly, but smelled like it was burnt, and might need to be replaced in the future.7 days later the wipers did not work again.this time there was no indication of problem, mother and children drove into a blizzard, and found that wipers would not function.luckily it occurred in a place that was not busy, and they were able to safely get off the roadway into a relatives driveway.it could have been very bad had it been on the freeway, in driving rain/snow/slush.now i'm sure the dealership will be telling us the gem module will need to be replaced, completing the entire wiper system being faulty within 1 week's time for the second failure ( on 1/15/2008).question: how would the technician know that it smelled like the gem module was burnt, unless it is a known problem?how does the entire wiper system, from control switch, to control module, to wiper motor go bad all at once?

The consumer received recall notice in 2001. Nhtas's recall # 01v258000. Recently the wiper cover started to burn, which caused the motor and switch not to work.

I own a 2000 ford excursion that recently experienced the exact symptoms described in a recall issued by ford on 8/3/2001 (ref: nhtsa campaign id 01v258000). Namely, the intermittent windshield wiper funtion stopped working, followed later by complete failure of the wipers following snow and ice obstruction. The wipers are currently completely inoperable and pose a significant safety risk. I brought the vehical to the ford dealer that it was purchased from (capistrano ford in san juan capistrano, california) and was told that our particular vehicle was not covered by the recall and that it would cost nearly $500 to fix and $88 to diagnose. I find it very disturbing that i own a vehicle with the same year, make and model addressed in the recall with a know safety risk, and yet somehow it is not covered. Obvioulsy the problem i experienced is the exact problem that the recall was meant to address. The only two conclusions that i can draw from this are: (1) ford's computer system is somehow not pulling up our vin number under this recall, or (2) the recall was not broad enough and needs to be expanded.
