Ignition has failed four times.
For about a year this car has quit running while your driving down the road. The engine just stops without sputtering or anything. Like you shut it off ,only the radio and lights stay on (except dash lights) . Sometimes it will startbackup while your still moving, but i usually have to turn the key off and on until the dash lights come back on and it starts then. I had this car checked on a diagnostic thing and it found nothing wrong. Sometimes it will be a month without doing it then it does it 10 times in a week. Thanks.
My patient had gone to his dialysis appointment and when he got back into the car and turned the key it would not start. He waited for a bit and tried it again and it started.as he was driving home, the car just shut off. He had some people help push it around the corner and called me to get it towed to his house. When i arrived at the vehicle i tried it and it seemed as though it had a dead battery. I called aaa to come give me a jump and waited for an hour. When they aaa got there and got out of their truck, they got in the drivers seat and turned the key and it started right up with no jump.we took a look at the ignition when we got home and turned the key and it was sticking but it turned on. I was having the car brought into a shop to get it checked out and it died again. When tried to restart the pin in the end of the ignition snapped off and the car wouldn't start.i ended up having it towed to the shop and they replaced the ignition. Over the course of the last 9 months the ignition has started doing it again. I was told that it was the alternator at first but after it was replaced found out that it wasn't that. It over charges the battery and has serious power surges and then just dies like nothing while driving down the street. This has happened on various occasions and now it just wont start at all. I know it isn't the battery, starter or alternator. I believe it to be the ignition switch. The started doesn't engage when you turn the key but all the power comes on.

Wiring harness insulation obviously cut during assembly.sharp metal edges on inside of liftgate and "d" pillar were the culprit.bare wires and cut wires were shorting to chassis ground.fire potential was serious.intermittant 3rd brake light, rear window defroster and hatch light were nuisance problems.other complainants on this sight had 3rd brake light melt down and fire... This could be a definite cause in the wagons and should be looked at closer in the sedans.also, i was reading the complaints on this car and, though it has been fairly reliable for me, i have experienced the uncontrolled throttle accelleration or sticking on 2 occasions.both times were during long trips and both times the symptoms would not disappear until after turning the ignition off and then back on.there is something to the other's complaints.lastly, the left rear seat belt will not return.i also noticed an alarming number complaints of seat belt failures on this vehicle.the seat belt return mechanism is a faulty design.the assembly can spread apart, allowing the return spring to loose it's tension.there really should be a safety recall or investigation on the seat belt assemblies in this vehicle.thanks.

The fuse blew in vehicle. Everything had shut down. This happens at least every 2 weeks or so. Been to dealer at least 6 different times for problem. The fuse was replaced, but the electrical systemwas never checked.
Ecc computer placed directly under the heater core without being waterproofed, this resulted in ecc shorting out when heater core developed a leak.
While parked under dash fire occurred. Vehicle had been sitting for about 2 hours before smoke was noted by a passer by. Expense of repair exceeded the value of the vehicle.

After driving vehicle a short distance there was the smell of electrical wire burning and soon after, smoke emerged from the defroster vents. Vehicle was shut off and smoking quit.upon inspection it was noted that the wiring harness under the instrument panel had burnt up beyond repair.

The air bypass would stick causing the car to run at a higher rpm, this is a 5-speed if it was an automatic it would act like a stuck throttle.tt

Consumer experiencing ongoing problems with vehicle equipments:1.) rear seat belt failed to retract; 2.) brake light builb would overheat, causing parts to melt; and 3.)vehicle would intermittently accelerate while shifting gears or at a stop position. Gasoline leaks from top of gas tank when filled. There is a recall (nhtsa# 92v-117, ford # 92s54 ) i contacted the dealer and they had no record of recall, and told me it was to old to check. I then called ford's customer service dept, and was told the recall had been closed.

I took the car to an auto repair mechanic--the diagnosis was a crack in the fuel tank assembly. Replaced fuel tank at a cost of 580.04. The repairs took over a week because the part was on back-order from the factory.

I am reporting on a prior recall that "supposedly" did not affect my car.nhtsa campaign id # 92v117000.i had been having a fuel leak around the tank area for awhile and could not figure out where it was coming from.it would only do it when the tank was full or 3/4 full.i then came across recall # 92s54 which described my problem.i took my car into a ford garage and they told me that my vin # was not included in the recall.i then called the ford home office and was told that since my car wasn't included, that there was nothing wrong with my car.i examined the codes on the fuel pump and verified that it was indeed the defective one.i then replaced the assy (which cured the problem).i viewed the old one (which i still have) confirmed that there was a crack in the solder joint between the fuel pump mounting plate and the fuel return tube.i then registered a complain by phone to your office and was told that i would receive a copy of my complaint by mail in approx. Two weeks.it's been about two months and i haven't received anything.i would appriciate a response.thank you.

The automatic shoulder belt on the driver's side does not retract.the driver is only able to us the lap portion of the seat belt. The dealer has been notified about the problem. The problem has not been corrected.

The atomatic seatbelt is not running in it's track continuously.it has decided to work when and if it feels like it.the paint started peeling on the top of the trunk in 1998 or 99 approximately, i have never had the money to get the paint fixed.i did however get the side painted when i was involved in an accident in 1993.that paint has bubbled.i don't remember what it cost me, i think just my insurance deductible at that time.

Consumer was in an accident and the driver side seat belt retractor didn't restrain .tt
The seat belt does not retract properly while driving.
Consumer experiencing ongoing problems with vehicle equipments:1.) rear seat belt failed to retract; 2.) brake light builb would overheat, causing parts to melt; and 3.)vehicle would intermittently accelerate while shifting gears or at a stop position. Dealer/ manufacturer notified, and refused to repair unless cost goes to consumer.
A part onretracting mechanism the pulls the seat belt up and down and around the occupant broke away from the frame, causing the seat belt to becomeinoperable.please give any further details.

About 8 or 9 months agorearseat belt on the driver's side stopped retracting. Also,about two weeks ago, rear seat belt on passenger's side stopped retracting.belts were hanging out of the retractor. Loss of brakes, gone to stop, pushed brake pedal , no brakes mechanic ran vaccum test, noticed in gear and accelerated, no acceleraton.
10/24/95 @ 22,823 miles machined rotors and replaced pads; 4/9/96 @ 25,506 miles replaced rotors and anti-rattle clips; 3/31/00 @ 47,523 miles machined rotors and replaced pads; 11/7/00 @ 51,917 miles required machine rotors and replace pads for fourth time on this low mileage car. Front disc brakes are still making popping/clicking noise when braking.

Multiple electrical failures of other dash instrumentation/controls to include heating/cooling/fan/radio and signals.in regard to second component, inability to properly install independent child safety seat in right front (passenger) seat, even with manufacturer-supplied "locking clip" as belts cannot be properly b secured under any circumstances.
The consumer noticed fuel leakage from the tank.the dealer diagnosed a hole in the tank.the tank hadleaked again.the consumer contacted the manufacturer who advised her that the v.i.n. Was not included in the related recall 92v117000.tsafter the purchase of the vehicle, a suspension bar was needed, and within the first year, the ignition switch was replaced.the consumer was advised to keep the fuel at half full.scc

Part on left rear axle missing causing alignment problems which wore out tires.
Problem first noticed on 10/16/99 while tires were being changed although it is unknown how long rear springs have been broken.mechanic advised that his shop had replaced rear springs on at least seven other escorts.i am the original owner of the vehicle.
Rear springs, i run a repair facility and almost every 90,s ford escort we see has broken rear spings, this seems to be a very common problem and i believe it warrants a recall of some sort to find out why so many break the rear springs in half, i do not own one of these cars and i would not buy one for this reason, please look into it for the saftey of all those who drive one. *mjs
Both rear axle leaf springs broken. Took car in for brakes to be serviced and brake mechanic noticed that both springs were broken. I had to replace rear tires because they were cupped badly in the spring of 1999 at which time tire center mechanic said problem due to the balance of the tires. Brake mechanic said it was probably the broken springs. Tires are starting to cup again. Estmate cost to repair at $500.00 per adams tire center
Four tires developed bubbles. While drivingvehicle about 65-70 mph tire on the rear passenger's side had a blow out.driver was able to maintain control of vehicle. The atomatic seatbelt is not running in it's track continuously.it has decided to work when and if it feels like it.the paint started peeling on the top of the trunk in 1998 or 99 approximately, i have never had the money to get the paint fixed.i did however get the side painted when i was involved in an accident in 1993.that paint has bubbled.i don't remember what it cost me, i think just my insurance deductible at that time.
