A b s brakes quit workingafter a hard stop in a parking lot to avoid hitting another vehicle, after the ford dealershiphad the escape for4 months and in constant contact with the manufactor with a result of replacing themaster cylinder, travel sensorand numerous containers of brake fluid they were still unable to get any brakes. At this point the manufactor decided it needed a a b s module, total parts only were totalling over $6000.00. It is a 2007 year model with only 115000 milesran and look great. After reserch on line i saw i was not the only person with this same issue. I think ford should have a recall because this is a saftey issue.

On the night of october 21, 2011 i was driving on rt.66w near gainesville, va in my 2007 ford escape hybrid with approximately 71,500 miles..an alarm sounded and i got a dash message reading "stop the car safely now".concurrently, i lost power and was forced to immediately pull over to the shoulder.when i consulted the owner's manual, i was informed it was a problem with the hybrid system.the manual suggested turning off the car & restarting.when i did this, the warning light went off and the power returned.i was extremely concerned about pulling into 70 mph traffic and crawled down the shoulder until i could exit. For the next 35 miles (until i got to my destination) this same thing occurred 3 more times on dark, rural roads.luckily, my husband was traveling the same route in another car, traffic was light, and there were available shoulders on the road for an immediate pull-over.this was a dangerous and frightening situation.i consider the sudden loss of power on a high-speed highway to be an extremely dangerous safety problem.this warrants a recall of the failing parts to prevent any other occurrences which could lead to serious accidents and possibly fatalities.the dealer replaced the cooling fan and water pump

After driving approximately 10 minutes on the freeway, a "stop safely now" message came up (without any other warning) and our car started to lose power and speed immediately.i was in the carpool lane and the flow of traffic on the 210 freeway was around 70 mph.i had to cut across 4 lanes of traffic and was barely able to make it before my car lost power completely.this is the third time this has happened to my husband or i in the past year.(each situation was similar to this one?and equally dangerous especially because there is zero warning).the car started up again immediately and i was able to exit the freeway before it happened again a few minutes later on side streets.i believe this is related to the hybrid coolant pump defect that i have seen others writing about online?all of the descriptions of the engine failure are similar.this needs to be recalled before someone is killed.ford needs to step up and take responsibility!

I was driving along a fairly busy highway in pennsylvania.the engine all of sudden stopped and this is very dangerous in busy traffic.luckily we were able to pull over and waited for the car to cool.it restarted and then again did the same thing several miles down the road.this happened again on 19 july 2014 along small town road not far from home.the car was barely warm.we had replaced the battery pack air filter on 17 july 2014, thinking that this may have caused the problem. There is 'stop safely now 'message that appears just before it suddenly stops.this is a very dangerous situation, i can't believe that someone has not done a recall on this.

Vehicle stalled while my wife and two small kids were driving on the freeway. The "stop safely now" statement popped up on the display. She managed to pull over to the shoulder and was able to restart the car after 10min. She was able to bring the vehicle home. At home vehicle could not be started at all still with the "stop safely now" warning on. Towed it to the ford dealership and got the recommendation of a technician to replace the dc dc converter. I approved the replacement but vehicle still does not want to start. A sudden engine stall in the middle of the road is inacceptable with two small kids and a serious safety issue. I'd expect ford to cover all repairs to fix this serious safety issue!

At 41,000 miles, the service brake system light came on and required an abs tone ring to be replaced.this is now looking to be quite the common part to break after the warranty expires.the service brake system light would come on in frequently, but would never generate a diagnostic code.at ~55000 miles, the service brake system light turned on and when i depressed my brake pedal, it went to the floor and was only able to stop the car by downshifting and using the emergency brake.luckily i was only driving ~25 mph on an empty road, but my young children were in the car.i turned the car off, and back on and tested the brakes on a short flat section of the road and they worked.i proceeded the 1/4 mile to my house and after stopping at a red light and 2 stop signs, the brakes failed pulling into my driveway being stopped by my other car!!! the ford dealer had the car and pulled a diagnostic code which had them replace an actuator in the d-pillar.they assured me that this solved the issue.my wife left to take the kids to school and the service brake system light turned on and the brakes failed as she pulled into the driveway.we had the vehicle towed to ford and they have been unable to find anything wrong or get the brakes to fail.no codes were generated.the general manager of the dealership claimed he had never heard of brakes failing on ford hybrids.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. When the vehicle was turned on, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hybrid battery pack control circuit failed and needed replacement. The contact also stated that the vehicle was repaired for the same failure in 2015. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.

2007 ford escape hybrid. Consumer states vehicle caught fire while driving *tgwthe consumer stated smoke began to enter the vehicle from under the dash on the passenger side. Minutes the later, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. The insurance adjuster could not determine the cause of the fire, due to the extent of the damage.

2007 ford escape hybrid. Driving about 35 miles outside the city going 65 mph. Car suddenly shuts off and says "stop safely now". I lose acceleration and all i can do is break and pull off the side of the road. I turn off my car, restart it and it works again. It happened 3 other times that day. I did change the air-filter a day earlier but could have been a coincidence. One of the times it stopped, i was stopped at a red light, the light turns green, i am accelerating to get on the highway and it cuts off again at about 30-40 mph. Cars are behind me and honk and i have nowhere to go but to the side of the road slightly, wait a few seconds and turn it back on. Very scary.

I was driving at freeway speed and the car suddenly gave the signal "stop car safely now." i immediately began to lose power and barely had time to pull over to the left-hand shoulder to get out of the way of traffic. No previous signal (e.g. Wrench light or warning triangle) had appeared to give me advance warning. This had happened before (see 2/1/13 complaint), but when we took the car to the shop after that first occurrence, they were unable to identify any problems, so i had driven it again. Both times the problem occurred after sustained (2 hrs) freeway speed (70 mph) driving. This time i was towed to a ford dealership where they identified that the hybrid battery system had overheated and numerous parts needed replacement.

My vehicle was running perfectly and had just been serviced. I was driving with my wife and children in mild conditions when the "stop safely now" message appeared at the same time the vehicle lost all power and was in a glide. We luckily made it to the side of the road as we were traveling in the number 1 lane furthest from any place to stop. We were nearly killed by a truck trying to get over to the side of the road. This has happened on 3 other occasions in the following months. All instances but one were on the highway. All put me in a very dangerous situation.

On 7/10/18, while waiting at a stop light to enter a highway, car stalled/lost power without warning. Two months earlier in may 2018, the car issued a "stop safely now" warning while moving at 65mph. Driver was able to get to the side of the road in time before losing power. Both instances resulted in restarting the car with no issues after a period of rest. Mechanic on both occasions could not find an issue with battery or electrical connections. Water pump (recall) was already repaired several years ago in 2012 and had no issues with stalling until 2018.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the abs and brake light indicators illuminated intermittently. The dealer stated that there was internal abs control module and hcu failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 86,600.

I was driving home from work when the dashboard light that looks like a wrench came on as well as the display service engine soon. I made it home safely and the next time i drove the car no light and so far seems ok. A similar occurrence happened about a month ago at that time i lost all power. Fortunately i had just pulled out of my driveway. I shut the car off and back on and it was fine until this week. It looks like it is a defective throttle body and sensor and will need to be replaced.

I have this 2007 ford escape hybrid with 50,000 miles on it.it worked fine until this year when the car would turn off at the light stop after a message of "stop safely now" displayed on board.i had to put it in parking and turn on the engine before i would be able to drive it again.took the vehicle for a check up and it turned out that a small stone mad a small hole in the radiator.we fixed the problem and it seemed to work well until 3 months later when it began to have the same problem, only this time the display showed while driving on the freeway.i only have a few seconds to find a way to stop safely before the car completely shuts off after the "stop safely now" message.it is scary since it happens every few miles now.we switched to different gas brands, maintained the vehicle, changed the oil and filter on time.the owner's manual mentions that the stop safely now message could be an indication of hybrid components failure.i did some research online and read forum discussions and i found out that many escape hybrid owners report the same problem.it looks like a manufacturer's defect to me.it is too common to be just an isolated problem.this is a safety issue.yesterday when it happened again, our 10 year old daughter was in the back passenger seat and she reported feeling unsafe and scared. We were driving from windsor to chatham and during the 70 miles drive alone, my daughter counted 7 occurrences.i am afraid to drive this car anymore.is it a death or more that will prompt inspectors to issue a safety recall for these vehicles?i hope it is not us.

Picked up my car from dealership, (recalled) electronic coolant pump replaced. Having dealt with the "stall-like condition" described in the safety recall notice 14s19 / nhtsa recall 14v-526, i was expecting thenewly installed water pump to affect my car's recent performance. Fifteen minutes from the dealership, going 65 mph on the freeway, the pull over safely now message flashed. And then my car stalled. Makes me wonder if the safety recall listed the wrong replacement part.

1.the events leading up to the failure - outside cold temperature.2.the failure, how often it occurs, its consequences - the key is very difficult to disengage from the ignition without significant fiddling.it occurs every time the outside temperature drops to around 40 degrees (f) or lower.the consequences are (1) that the vehicle may slip into gear, roll anywhere and cause an accident if the key is left in the ignition.there is also the heightened possibility of vehicle theft and/or a broken key.3.what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available) -i contacted ford via e-mail and their response was to take it to the dealer.i also googled the problem and found out that ford fusions are rife with this problem - http://www.ford-forums.com/ford-fusion/4432-keys-wont-come-out-ignition.html.i assume the same kind of ignition switch is in all of the later model fords.online remedies include partially disassembling the gear shifter, which may lead to a more hazardous condition than a stuck key and i don't want to that.this is a serious safety issue and should be investigated.

I was driving in san diego county from the city of chula vista to the city of santee on interstate 5 going north at 65 mph when the ford escape hybrid 2007 suddenly shut off in the middle of the freeway. A message appeared on the dashboard saying, "safely pull to the side of the road". Fortunately traffic was not heavy and i was able to coast to the emergency lane until help could arrive. This is very dangerous and something should be done about it.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The vehicle stalled several times while driving approximately 15 mph. He noticed that the vehicle would only drive with electricity and would not engage innormal. He took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer re-grounded the wire at an expense of $450.00.he contacted the manufacturer and was referred to nhtsa. The current and failure mileages were 37,533.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the stop safely now warning message illuminated. The contact shut off and restarted the vehicle, and it vehicle operated as designed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was informed that the vehicle did not display a failure. The failure recurred several weeks later and the vehicle stalled. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where unknown repairs were performed however, did not rectify the failure and the contact was unable to restart the vehicle when the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure and current mileage was 79,750.

Without warning, the engine and motor stopped upon accelerating after right turn, with warning message and many lights displayed.after rolling to a stop at the side of the road, and waiting 5 to 10 minutes, the car started and drove normally.this has occurred a number of times since then, on surface streets and expressways.the loss of power is accompanied by loss of power steering, of course, and creates a dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the pull over and stop warning light displayed on the instrument panel. The contact allowed the vehicle to cool for a few minutes before restarting the vehicle. The failure recurred several times. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was 103,000.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the throttle body would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

When there is a fault with the electrical hybrid battery system, the vehicle cuts power completely to the engine.it simply flashes a "stop safely now" message.having to potentially cut across 4 lanes of freeway traffic without power is very dangerous. I nearly had an accident several times due to this. If the hybrid system has a fault, it should still keep the gas engine operational.additionally, the fault is very intermittent, and my ford factory mechanic could not track down any definite cause.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact was traveling 40-45 mph when the engine stalled. The pull over safely warning message displayed after the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the motor electronic cooling system and water pump both failed and needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 100,400.

First sign of trouble was an alert on the dash reading ?stop safely now!? and the vehicle power (engine) cut out.

On june 24,2013 i was coming back from arizona traveling on the two lane freeway at 70 miles an hour with the air conditioning running. With no warning what so ever the engine just quit and fortunately, i was able to coast to the shoulder of the road. Had i been on a four lane freeway in the fast lane at traffic time it would have been a different story. I am very concerned this could have resulted in a rear end collision.after sitting on the shoulder for 10 minutes the engine started and i continued my trip without any additional problems. I didn't drive the car again after i got home until i took it to huntington beach ford for inspection. The dealer found the electric water pump was faulty and failed their test. The water pump was repaired, the system flushed and it tested ok. A test drive was also performed by the dealer with passing results.the cost of this work was $829.99 dollars.i am writing to you out of concern for our family and others that own this vehicle since we no longer can trust we won't have another no warning engine shut down some place we won't be able to get to the shoulder of the road.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Was driving on freeway at 75 mph with cruise control on for approximately 5 to 10 minutes and engine quit.a red triangle with exclamation mark symbol illuminated on dash and the message center displayed "stop vehicle safely now".the vehicle decelerated without engine power and only the electric motor was working to drive the car to the shoulder of the freeway.i did a system check and all results were normal.i shut the vehical of and restarted it and did another system check which gave all normal results again.i continued my trip and the problem has not happened again.

I was traveling northbound on i-95 in maryland, about 10 miles south of elkton.while driving in the second from the right lane, in heavy traffic just after dark, the engine completely shut down, with no warning. My information screen said "hybrid system failure, pull over immediately."i had no power of any kind, had to navigate heavy traffic at high speeds, and pull over to the shoulder.it was very difficult and very dangerous to navigate.after sitting on the shoulder for several minutes, the car finally started, and i was able to continue on for a few miles before it happened again.at least i was in the right lane this time.i again waited, and once again the engine started.i pulled off at the elkton exit, and spent the night at a local hotel.the next morning, i called the local ford dealer, and was told that, since i was not a regular customer, they could not help me for two days.after towing the carto my home dealer, about 75 miles, i was informed that it was a water pump failure, not a hybrid system failure, and therefore not covered by the warranty. This seemed curious to me as there was no indication that the engine was overheating, and the car itself indicated that there was a hybrid system failure. Why would they design a vehicle to completely shut down, with no warning. I can not imagine the panic this may have caused with a less experienced driver.this had disaster written all over it. Further, i do not understand why this was not a warranty issue.the hybrid system is supposedly warranted for 100,000 miles.the system should be designed to warn the driver that a problem is imminent, and the engine will shut off in a short period of time.as designed, this is a terrible and dangerous warning system, and the warranty service from ford is vague and awful.

Ford escape hybrid 2007, about 75,000 miles. On three separate days over the past few months car has stalled while driving. Usually happens after driving for longer periods on freeways. On each of the three days after stalling once it stalled again several times, going about 40mph. Dealer and mechanic could not find anything wrong. After reading complaints pretty sure its a mechs cooling pump problem.

On a trip from cincinnati oh to bloomington in, roughly 140 miles, the check engine light came on several times with no apparent driveability issues.the return trip a few hours later, however, on a busy highway at 75 mph the vehicle suddenly lost power showing the message "pull over safely immediately".it was difficult to navigate to the shoulder without power, and very frightening.after a few minutes i was able to start and run the vehicle again for about 10 minutes before experiencing the power loss again.after a tow and oil change i was sent on my way only to have the same issue again several times before getting another tow all the way home.this has happened several times since, only at highway speeds, always dangerous and scary.the dealer is replacing the merc pump and a couple other items for a cost of over 1200.00. This should be a recall issue--so many complaints already lodged and such a dangerous situation.

While driving down the freeway, the car abruptly lost power and a stop safely now light came on. The car was coasting on the freeway in the middle of traffic. It was as if it was suddenly in neutral. I restarted the vehicle when i reached the edge of the road and had acceleration again. I was stranded with my children so i attempted to go at a very safe speed in the slow lane. The problem occurred another 3 times before reaching home. Upon research, this is a very common occurrence with escape hybrids. I called ford cust. Service and after reporting my issue, the representative said he had no knowledge of such problems and was actually rude to me. I called the local dealer and he said the common issue would not be covered under warranty. Now, i have an extremely unsafe car with a very common problem and appear to be getting no assistance.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escort. The contact stated that his vehicle would lose power when driving 70 mph. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. No repairs have been made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage 76,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle jerked and stalled. In addition, the contact stated that pull over was displayed across the message board. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown but the current mileage was 71,000.

For the past year my feh '07 has had the triangle light with the explanation point come on. Including the awful "pull over safely now" message. I have children in the back seat, it's texas summer heat & we're on the side of theroad with no power except electric! while driving on cruise control of 65mph the engine stops, i have to coast (no acceleration) over 3 lanes of traffic. 18 wheelers, cattle haulers, etc. My children are scared witless, as am i. This has occurred numerous times. Vehicle sent to the dealership (where it was purchased) they did an electrical reset.while driving from texas to tennessee it occurs soooo many times i've given up. Matters worse, the children are with me. I am not safe while driving this new vehicle. I thought this was a matter of safety with ford!! after looking at others on this site, i agree. I will not buy another ford. Though that is all we've purchased in the past 20yrs!! my husband even sold his hybrid and purchased a hyundai!!! why is ford not coming out with a recall?? all i seem to find is the cloth cover that may prevent the air bag deployment. Are they ignoring the other complaints about the warning light of "pull over safely now" and your coasting to the side of a busy freeway of 18 wheelers????

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a manufacturer's recall. The failure mileage was 35,000.

After driving approx 20 min on the freeway, my 2007 ford escape hybrid shut off. Warning light came on displaying: motor temp high. Then, stop safely. Considering i was in the middle of the freeway in phoenix az, the 2nd warning statement was quite un-nerving. When i finally made it to the shoulder of the freeway, i opened the hood, nothing was overheating, no steam, coolant levels normal. The vehicle started again without issue. I proceeded approx 5 minutes down the freeway and exited. When attempting to cross the street at the end of the exit ramp, the vehicle shut down again, displaying the same messages. This incident left me in the middle of a busy road. When i finally arrived home, i contacted a friend who is more knowledgeable than i regarding mechanical issues. He said he had heard of this and suggested i look on the internet. I am appalled at the # of occurrences of the same issue that have been reported. Yet no one, not the manufacturer or the dealerships have notified the consumer of this very dangerous situation. My father has purchased fords for years. This irresponsible action, of failure to notify the consumer of potentially dangerous malfunctions, does not fit the responsible company that he has always described.

While traveling on the interstate, a "stop safely now" message appeared on the instrument panel.the message was immediately preceded by a chime, and the vehicle lost engine power as soon as the message appeared.there was no warning that would have allowed a safe movement from the roadway, and this problem has repeatedly put me and my family in the most dangerous situations we have ever experienced in a car.the car is in the dealership for the second time for the same problem, and we had it in a year before the first incident for a replaced coil and plug (at 29,000 miles).i just got a call from the service manager telling me that there is nothing he can do on prices for the repair.i will be calling ford customer service, directly, after filing this complaint, since this is obviously a recall situation.we purchased an extended warranty for $1300.it was for 5 years or 60,000 miles.this was a waste of money.the only thing we got covered under that warranty was a window motor that broke.including the warranty for which we paid, we have paid over $2500 in service fees to our dealership.the current mileage is just over 42,000.we purchased the car, new, for $28,000.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving 35-45 mph, there was an audible warning sound which notified the driver of an issue with the vehicle. The contact stated that the engine temperature gauge showed that the engine was overheating. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated and a fault code could not be produced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving, the engine failed and the emission cooling system warning indicator illuminated. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, but the mechanic was unable to locate a failure code. The dealer also test drove the vehicle, but was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer replaced the battery filter several times; however, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 87,000.

I was driving on the freeway when the engine shut off and'master vehicle electrical hazrard warninglamp' came on. Fortunately i only had to cross one lane in modest traffic. The owner's manual instructions state 'stop the vehicle, shift to park, turn the key to off position and attempt to restart the vehicle. If the fault remains, the vehicle may require resetting the shut-off switches.' following the instructions, i was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving without resetting any switches. The warning light remained off and has not come back on again. I have sheduled an appointment to take the vehicle to a dealer. In the mean time i have searched the web for drivers with similiar experiences and have come across quite a few.i personally do not feel safe driving a vehicle that can shut off without warning, especially on a busy highway. The fact that ford has instructions in the owners manual for 'resetting the fuel pump/high voltage shut off switches' is alarming in itself essentially i can be traveling in urban rush hour traffic and a computer can decide to shut off the engine.i urge you to require ford to address this defect.

While traveling down the interstate highway the triangle with an exclamation point in the middle lit up and the display read "stop safely now".i was in the left lane of the interstate and the engine shut down - there was no shoulder and traffic was too heavy to coast across lanes.i found a service station that was open on sunday evening.they said my coolant was fine, the oil level was fine, and they could not see anything obviously wrong with the vehicle.i elected to continue my trip another 50 miles and the problem occurred 2 more times.i kept the speed under 70, ran by heater on full blast in case the problem was temperature related, and coasted as often as possible.each time the engine shut down, i slowed to the shoulder, turned the engine off, waited 5 minutes, then started again.the service results are still inconclusive, but it seems there are a lot of owners experiencing this exact problem.the automatic shut off of the engine put me in an extremely dangerous situation.

While traveling on an interstate highway, the vehicle displayed "stop safely now" message along with an audible chime and a red triangle with exclamation point symbol.the gas engine shut down and the vehicle lost power coasting from highway speed to around 35 mph.the vehicle remained under hybrid electric power allowing me to move to the side of the road.my vehicle is around 7.5 years old and has 89,000 miles.i researched this issue and it appears to have occurred with several of these type vehicles.the dealership reported that they retrieved error codes p1aod, p0a3e, b139.the dealership says that it requires replacement of the hybrid drive train motor electronics cooling system (mecs) water pump (part# 5m6z8c419a) and (part# al8z19e66f).there is a technical service bulletin (tsb) 08-24-5 that seems to relate to similar problems.the problem is not covered by the manufacturer 8 year /100,000 mile hybrid warranty according to ford customer relations despite both parts being part of the hybrid drive system.

2007 ford escape engine will cut off and tell me to pull over safe. Has happen down freeway, stop sign, and leave in stop light in middle of road. This is very unsafe. Called dealership and they said are 07 ford escape does not qualify for the recall.

While backing out of a parking space, the right front wheel separated from the vehicle.upon closer inspection, it appeared that the bolt sheared, dislocating the wheel from the drivetrain.this was later confirmed at the repair center--the bolt had sheared and had to be drilled out.the front lower control arm bolts (forward bolt) removed and threads had to be repaired.the right front axle also had to be replaced.this vehicle is only 6.5 years old, and is not driven off road.ford does not acknowledge this as an issue.as noted elsewhere on this site, we also have had issues with brake squealing, as well as the water pump issue.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving at 65 mph, the electronic coolant system warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

My ford hybrid escape (gas) engine shut down as i was accelerating onto the highway.the drive power was completely lost.the car continued coasting and i got the message stop safely now.i pulled off to the shoulder, stopped and shut off the car.i then restarted the car and it functioned normally.the failure has not happened (after about 100 miles) since the one incident.i have driven the car to a ford dealer for diagnosis.the un-commanded engine shut down without any preliminary warning seems like a hazardous condition that could be life threatening in certain circumstances.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the "pull over safely" warning message illuminated after the failure occurred. The contact was able to move onto the emergency lane. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic, who performed an inspection and located the failure in the electric water pump motor. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 115,000.updated 7/14/14

2007 ford escape hybrid. Attorney writes on behalf of consumers regarding blue ox bx2609 base plate installation. *tgwthe lawyer stated his clients experienced two dangerous failures of the base plate. What made the situation extremely dangerous is that it was almost impossible for a user of the product to inspect to inspect the product for any signs of damage prior to using the base plate to tow a vehicle. Once the base plate as installed, it was usually hidden by the bumper and front facade of the vehicle. On july 25, 2088 while driving, the base plate failed which caused the tow vehicle to swing violently back and forth across lanes of traffic. The metal bracket on the bas plate attaching it to the to vehicle (ford escape) was ripped from the metal beam part of the base plate spanning the front of the vehicle. The failure occurred at the joint between the bracket and base plate beam. In total there was about $10,000 worth of damage to both the motor home and the tow vehicle. Another base plate was sent to the consumer and installed on the vehicle.on july 25, 2012, while driving and using the allegedly redesigned blue ox base plate, the consumer discovered the tow vehicle has become disconnected and found that once again the base plate failed. The base plate beam was ripped from the metal bracket attachment points in exactly the same way in which the previous base plate had failed.

Vehicle displayed "service emissions system" warning immediately after driving off the lot. After replacement of all emissions parts, vehicle still intermittently displays this warning and occasional "stop safely now" messages causing the engine to shut down. Vehicle also displays "service brake system" warnings daily despite having entire breaking system replaced causing failure of abs breaking system resulting in brake pedal going all the way to the floor and taking a much longer distance to stop while driving. Vehicle surges forward while stopped at traffic lights increasing the risk of a crash. Vehicle displays "passenger door ajar" warnings although door is shut. This results in alarm and lights flashing constantly resulting in several drained batteries so vehicle does not start. Transfer case or "power take off unit" failed at 125k miles resulting in non-drivable condition.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle independently engaged into electric mode. The vehicle started to lose power when the failure occurred. The failure recurred and the contact would have to shut off the engine and restart it to initiate back into fuel mode. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and it was determined that the vent door that cools the main battery failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 117,000.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving 20 mph, a high engine temperature message appeared on the instrument panel and a loud boom sound was heard from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle stalled and was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the vehicle's hybrid coolant pump and fan failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000. ...updated 07/13/16

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, a chime sounded and an unknown warning light illuminated. In addition, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronics system overheated. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The contact had the vehicle repaired under the recall campaign and the failure recurred. While driving approximately 68 mph, the stop safely now warning lights illuminated and the entire vehicle seized. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 95,000.

2007 ford escape hybrid consumer is seeking reimbursement that consumer stated she lost power while driving on the freeway. The consumer received a recall notice in the mail. She called her local dealer, where she was informed part of the service she had done on her vehicle in october 2011, was in fact covered.the consumer stated there was an issue with the hybrid system.

While traveling on a turnpike with few exit ramps and limited shoulder clearance, the vehicle simultaneously lost all power and displayed the warning triangle ("triangle of death") and the information display indicated "stop safely now".the key was removed from the ignition and manual consulted.the manual indicated this was a hybrid system fault/failure and advised on attempting to restart the vehicle and taking it to the nearest dealership. The restart was successful and traveling continued for another 15 miles before the same exact scenario repeated.the ford dealership diagnosed this problem as a failure of the motor electronic cooling system (mecs)--a well documented failure (and a dangerous one) that plagues many ford escape hybrids.

I had been driving down the road and my power steering went out with out warning. I puller over using force into a strip mall. Turned the car off, sat there for 10 min turned the car back on and the dash light came on and a service power steering read across the dash. Called ford to make an appointment.

The power takeoff unit, also known as the power takeoff assembly, and or the transfer case has gone bad . Ford says that the part cost $3700..while talking with several repair shops in my area, they state that this is a very common problem with this tvehicle. If it is true that this is a common problem ,why hasn't it been recalled recalled.it sounds like a bunch of marbles are rolling around in my transmission while coasting.

I was driving at freeway speed and the car suddenly showed the signal: "stop safely now," and i immediately began to lose power. I barely had time to pull to the shoulder to get out of the way of 70-mph traffic. No previous signal showed on the dash (e.g., the wrench signal) to give me any advance warning.

Started with occasional clunking when in reverse. Slowly developed a sort of thumping like when driving. Like from a bad tire or wheel bearing.as my wife had a medical problem, i drove it for about a week before checking out.i rotated and inspected the tires and breaks.i manually rotated each wheel by hand to check for signs of a wheel bearing problem.nothing found.the next couple days the noise became worse.i took it to a reputable transmission shop.when they test drove it, they would not even take it off their lot.their comment to me is that they hope i had not been driving it long like this.they were sure that something in the trans axle was about to lock up.i am sure they were right.by this time it was quite bad.they found that my transfer case had failed at 40,245 miles.a little research on the internet shows that this is a common problem with awd escapes.i notice that 2 were reported to the nhtsa, one resulting in injury. If this unit locks up while driving, loss of life is possible.only a small percentage of escapes are awd and have transfer cases.it appears that a high percentage of early awd escapes are suffering from this problem.any drive train issue in any vehicle which could result in the vehicle locking up while under way should not happen.ford has a responsibility to fix this issue. I have to admit that when i drove the car to the shop that morning it sounded so bad that i was a little scared to drive it faster than around 30 mph.it would have completely failed within days.i feel i was lucky to get it repaired when i did. It cost me $4,353.00 to replace the transfer case.now i am not sure i want to keep the vehicle. Not sure i should trust their cvt either.

The coolant pump for my ford escape 2007 hybrid has given me a failure code several times. I had it diagnosed then wanted to order the part and was told that i was number 800 on the backorder list for this part. I contacted ford and they referred everything back to the dealer(of course whom i had already spoken with) it is a ford problem for the backorder not a dealer problem. If i am number 800 on the backorder list what type of a problem do they have. The part number is 5m6z 8c419 a.

On friday, august 27, 2010 my daughter became tangled in her seatbelt, and was so constricted by the belt that we had to cut the belt.the sequence of events is as follows:1. She belted in, as always. 2. She asked if she could lie down on the seat because she didn't feel well; i said okay, but keep the belt on3. We pulled off the highway b/c she needed the bathroom - when she sat up, she said "i'm stuck in my seatbelt."once parked, she released the clip, but remained tangled in the shoulder strap. 4. As we tried to get her out of the belt (she is 5'3", so i could not simply lift her up), which was around her waist in a full twist, she pulled the belt to full extension, accidentally starting the ratchet function. 5. The belt began to ratchet tighter and tighter, and became so constricted that she had to face over the back seat.6. I held the belt to stop the ratcheting, while a friend ran in to get a pair of scissors. The belt was incredibly tight on her - we could not even move it up or down on her waist and she was crying because it was cutting in to her sides.7. Unable to release the belt, i cut it off my daughter. The car is a ford escape, hybrid, 2007 - but the seatbelts are similar in most car brands.the belt is under warranty and will be replaced at no charge.i do not know how this could be prevented, as the ratcheting function of the seatbelt is necessary for child seat restraints (car seats).however, it was the ratcheting of the belt that put my daughter in so much danger, as once the seatbelt begins ratcheting, it will not release until it is fully retracted. Thankfully, i noticed it was ratcheting before she was completely constricted. I am also reporting this to ford. It could happen in any car with ratcheting seatbelts, regardless of the brand.hopefully, it will not happen to anyone else.

As i was driving down the road, the abs and 4x4 lights started going off, with the abs engaging erratically with no apparent reason due to climate or terrain.i called ford dealer and they said either the axleor the brake hub would have to be replaced, at the expenses of hundreds of dollars just for the part, and likely hundreds more for labor! i then go online, however, a see a litany of complaints for the ford escape hybrid and mercury mariner spanning over the course of a decade - all with the exact same description of what i experienced.all the testimonials pointed towards a the faulty design of the tone ring that is used by the abs to gage driving conditions.apparently, after a few years of driving, it tends to snap!this 5$ - $15 dollar part is then used for and an excuses for a repair that may spill over into thousands of dollars, while not to mention, endangering the driver and passengers of said vehicles. When i asked the dealer if they'd replace only the tone ring, they said they do not stock the tone ring only, but they do stock the brake hub and axle.this is obviously a dangerous manufacturing flaw, one that could put the safety of the driver at risk.i would hope the dot would strongly encourage ford to correct this calamity by replacing the poorly designed tone ring with something durable, to better reflect the quality of product we'd like to expect from ford, not to mention a general sense of concern for our wellbeing.

My whole family was in the vehicle leaving a parking lot when the brake light and abs light both came on and the brakes failed to work at all. I kept trying to use the brake and then had to throw the ebrake on to come to a complete stop. I could not imagine if we were going any faster or if someone else in my family was driving the car. The cost to get it fixed was $3,820 which was outrageous.

Abs light will randomly appear and my brakes will stop working! i took it into a mechanic and he said that i need a replacement master cylinder. The brake travel sensor is the problem and from what i've read, most people with this car have this same problem. Ford refuses to acknowledge this safety hazard. It is obviously a manufacturing problem. The problem will occur again and again while driving. Lights come on. Brakes stop working.

Abs light, service brake and emergency brake lights come on intermittently and the car requires me to stop. It will not restart and brakes are not working. This has happened multiple times with various fixes from the dealerships (replace fuses, replace broken tone rings, recalibrate abs, etc). This has happened now for the 5th time (i am at 78,239 miles on the car). This time my brakes went out entirely with no warning. Thankfully i was going very slow in a neighborhood. The dealer has instructed me that the car requires a new master cylinder and a new hcu. The cost of this was quoted at $6800. Without this fix my car is unsafe and not drivable.

I have a 2007 ford escape hybrid with 92518 miles on it. The break lights come on and then it has little breaks.it does thisintermittently. I took it to the dealer and they said the hcu was bad and that it would need to be replaced and that it was going to cost me $6000 - $7000 to have it fixed.i put a used hcu on it and they said that one was also bad. I have owned many cars over the years and i have never had to putan hcu on before.i got on line and this seems to be a very common problem. So how come there is no recall since this has to do with the breaks..if this was a toyota this would have already been addressed..i will never buy another ford vechial again..i work at a very big shop in town and anyone who askes what kind of car to buy i will tell them to buy a toyota and not a ford. Cause apparently ford doesn't care about safety.p.s. How come i have to take it to the dealer to have the breaks bleed.

On friday july 18th 2014 @ 5:42 pm i was driving my suv and i got 3 errors 1. The abs light came on 2. The brake light came on and 3. The information panel said service brake system.when i got off the freeway i noticed my breaks were not responding i immediately put the car on neutral put my hazard lights on and pulled the hand break which had no effect.i pumped the breaks and no response from the car, i took off the hand break and tried it again and then car was still not responding. The car finally stopped since the exit was uphill, i used my phone to check the error codes since i have an obd2 code reader and the 2 following codes came up 1.generic obd error code details for u0418invalid data received from brake system control module2. Mazda obd error code details for u2023abnormal message from pcmi shut the car down and immediately turn it back on and the errors still came up i tried to drive a few feet to test the breaks but there was no response, i then shut the car down again for 3 minutes then turned it back on and all errors where gone and my breaks worked.i was able to drive my car home without any further incidents.

Brake warning lights and brakes feels firm but becomes difficult to stop.other times it feels just fine. Do not feel save, no longer able to use the car.

Applying brakes coming into intersection and the brakes failed to apply at the wheels had to use emergency brake to complete the maneuver through the intersection without colliding with another vehicle and return to job site.

Abs light and low brake fluid light intermittently signaled until car lurched and shuddered. Dealer replaced a brake hose and then performed a multi-point inspection indicating that the other brake lines were fine. Then on march 31, 2014, the abs light and low brake fluid light came on again. Two other hoses are now defective and suggested that i replace the last one as well. Given that it costs several hundred dollars to bleed and recalibrate the brake system fluid on a hybrid, i'm concerned that defective brake lines are either a) not noted when multi-point inspections are done, or b) can degenerate within two months time, as in the date they were deemed safe in january to the date they were in need of replacement 60 days later.

Upon starting "service brakes soon" warning on dash along with "brake on " and "abs" warning light.shut engine down and conducted safe restart. Brakes working at less than 50%. Wife can no longer drive vehicle. The consumer no longer owns the vehicle.

Went to press on the brakes to not hit an animal and yellow abs light illuminates, red brake light illuminates, and "service brake system" message appeared and the car just slid. Once driving your abs system is deactivated causing the car to just slide when pressing on the brakes. An obdi code reader indicates c1478, c1479, and c1480. Ford recommends changing hydraulic control unit costing over 5 thousand dollars. When unlocking the car or turning the key ignition to the on position you hear the brakes trying to build up pressure and then you hear a loud grinding noise and that is when all the messages appear on the dash. This seems to be a reoccurring issue with ford escape hybrids made from 2005 through 2008 according to many customers. No recall yet.

Purchased vehicle with abs light on, brake light on, service brakes soon message, regen disabled message. Brake pedal goes nearly to the floor and no braking assistance is given. Extreme pressure is required to stop. All braking components appear to be sound by visual inspection. Abs failure should not cause all braking assistance to shut down. Failsafe mode is not safe. Internet search reveals that this problem is rampant on these vehicles.

Brake failure. Pulling up to a stop sign, applied brakes, vehicle started slowing. Brakes released and i had to slam my foot all the way down to get the car to stop. Brought to the dealership and am told there is a technical service bulletin regarding this issue.

2014. Brake fail. Fix. For. $1500.moving. To. California.now 2018. 12-5-2018. Power steering. Needs.services.and. Also. Emissions. Have problems too. ?

Sporadic failure of brakesmultiple attempts to determine what was wrongfinally discovered that the hydraulic control unit needed replacing, at a final cost of over $6000!!!!!!!brake issues felt like hydroplaning, brake lights went on (randomly) and brakes immediately failed- no pressure, pedal to the floor and car did not stop. Brake lights off and auto shop can not find anything wrong. System is life threatening and ford should recall all cars especially hybrids to replace brakes. Obviously this brake problem only occurs when the vehicle is in motion! a car without brakes is not acceptable.

Warning light (abs) and messages appeared (service 4 x 4, service brakes soon) unexpectedly.after letting the car sit for a day, the light and messages went away.however, the next time the car was driven, it bucked when the brakes were applied, and the traction control warning light came on - on a dry road. After researching the problem online, it seems that many escape hybrid owners have had the same issue.owner is afraid to drive the car for fear of complete brake failure and afraid to take it to the dealer for fear of costly repairs for this issue after having spent $5000 to repair complete failure of power train system.

While driving at approx. 30 mph the amber abs and red brake warning lights came on.power assist for braking failed.unlike vacuum assist in a non-hybrid vehicle (when in the case of failure you can still still stop fairly quickly with extreme foot pressure on the brake pedal) with the escape hybrid, no matter how hard you press the brake pedal, you are limited to about 10% of normal braking force.diagnostic error code was c1477.ford documented fix is to try bleeding the brake system and see if that works. If not replace abs module and hcu. Dealer said bleeding system would be $900. If that did not work replace abs module/hcu for an additional $4500. So, try bleeding the brakes, ride around for a month or two to see if problem returns. If problem returns replace abs module/hcu and hope that fixes it.there may be 2 or 3 or 4 visits to the shop to have the problem fixed. Thats an extra 1-3 times for a fatal accident to occur.a note to nhtsa investigators....just because there are no documented deaths from these failures (as far as i can tell) it does not mean there is no reason for a recall.a sudden failure of brakes with no warning on dozens (if not hundreds) of these escape hybrid vehicles is cause for alarm.

Failure of anti-lock braking system while driving on city street.poor braking performance.proposed repair is to replace hydraulic abs unit at a cost of $5400.vehicle has only 104,000 miles and could be driveable if repaired.i see from the nhtsa website that other owners have had this exact problem.

The car was stationary on may 7th 2016 abs warning light came on and flashed after starting vehicle. My daughter took to ford dealer in maryville tn they said needs complete braking system replaced at a cost of $4,349.08.considering i had the ford dealer in madison, oh check vehicle from top to bottom (safety check) in jan. 2016 they replaced the front rotors & brake shoes and deemed everything else in perfect condition. Anyway car was taken to a dealer in carey nc they said needs complete braking system replaced at a cost of $4,800.after researching i have found (hundreds) of people in my situation describing exactly the same issues!shame on ford for not allowing a recall!i cant afford the pricey repairs and can't afford another car!so sorry i replaced a honda civic with 239,000 miles with this hunk of junk escape hybrid!!!!this is a huge safety issue that can have a terrible outcome.

I was driving home in route 94 vernon nj the brake light and the abs light went on, and the brake pedal was high but no brakes, the regenerative brakes were disabled, the engine turn off and i found myself driving only with the electrical motor and no brakes after i pull over turn off the car. Since this moment my car is running only for periods off 10 to 15 minutes before it turn off, still no brakes at all.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact heard an abnormal noise when the brake pedal was depressed. On one occasion, there was a severe vibration after the brake pedal was depressed and the brake warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to airport marina ford (5880 w centinela ave, los angeles, ca) where it was diagnosed that the hcu assembly was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.

This is the 4th instance for this same problem. I can not recall the date and mileage that this has happened thefirst two times so i used the latest instance for date and mileage. This vehicle is currently 5 and 1/2 years old and has 81,100 miles on it.four (4) times now the abs tone ring has crackedcausing the vehicle to occasionally brake as if the abs is working and increasing the stopping distance required to safely stop the vehicle. There are multiple internet reports regarding this issue with this vehicle. Last year (aug 2011) i had to have one of the abs tone rings replaced at approx 72,000 miles. That was the 3rd time i have had this problem. Considering this is my 4th occurrence with this problem and there are numerous reports on the internet i respectfully request that an investigationbe opened to look into a recall of this part.some internet reports suggest that ford has modified the abs tone ring but i do know if that is correct. I am a retired air force safety specialist with 15 years experience and it is my belief that this defect poses a serious safety hazard to both the driver and others should the vehicle fail to stop properly. I have contacted ford customer service totry to have this latest instance repaired at no cost to me. It is currently under review.

The brake light and abs light have both come on. I have half the braking power in my vehicle.

The abs brake light and red brake lights come on and i have very limited braking.almost like braking on an icy road and at times almost collided with some cars.then it's not on the next time i start it up again, only to come on again on a different day or so.brought the car in to my mechanic, but since the lights weren't on at that time, they could not diagnose it.they did however check out my brakes and said everything looked fine.i have 2 small children in my car and drive 20 miles each way everyday to work and their school, this is not safe!!the lights go and and then off the next time, when the lights are off,the brakes are just fine!there is something defective here that is happening and my mechanic cannot figure it out!!!this has been going on for 7 months now!!i will submit the date below of the last time it happened.

The abs light goes on and i have minimum brakes.when abs and brake light goes on i have almost no brakes and i end up skidding when stopping.i have have multiple near misses and burned rubber trying to stop.these lights are sporadic but they come on at least 90% of the time.when the lights are off, the brakes are fine.i have taken it to my mechanic and he said there is nothing that they can do because my brakes are fine when they check it.they also said that it looks like its the electrical unit that is on back order and not even available.they have told me that this is a huge problem from many ford owners and that i should file a complaint to have this recalled.

Several times, over a period of 2 years, at low speeds (approx. 30 mph) abs and brake light come on with alarm sounds.able to stop, but brakes not responding correctly, turned off ignition, restarted, everything ok.then abs and brake light come on and won't go off, have brakes but they don't respond correctly, making the car very unsafe to drive.go for diagnosis; afterward no brakes and hybrid assist message appears.car is no longer operable.all brake incidents occurred on city streets or in driveway on starting.diagnosis: master cylinder needs replacing and probably hydraulic control unit as well.total cost for parts before labor $6,000,approximately the same as the value of the vehicle.the failure of these parts is apparently a common and well known problem that ford refuses to address.

The contact stated that while the driver was driving at approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal was jammed to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic where they diagnosed that the brakes needed to be bled. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred and the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brakes needed to be bled properly and tubing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred again. The contact stated that vehicle was returned to the dealer where it was diagnosed as the hydraulic control unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The manuafactuer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. The vin was not provided.

I own a 07 ford escape with 30,000 mile on it. Last week the abs brake system engaging when there is no need for it to. When stopping the vehicle on jan.28 2010 the vehicle began to buck badly. After stopping again at the next stop it bucked once more, as i drove off the abs light came on and the message center list both "service brake system" and service 4x4 system"i took the car to the dealership on jan 29 and was told that the abs system tone ring for the left front wheelwas defective and needed to be replace (cost $325.00) i have found on the internet that this seem to be a common replacement part on ford and mercury of this model and year. I feel this is a problem that ford should be recalling. (the dealership kept the old part).

In september 2009 i had to have the abs tone ring on drivers side replaced because i was having issues where breaks would "slip" when breaking- they would engage for a bit then slip and re-engage. This issue didn't prove to be dangerous for me, but could have been.the end of may i began having the same issues again and i knew what the problem was so i took it into dealer where they replaced the passenger side abs ring- problem seemed to be solved.until the next day when i was driving home from work on the highway and lost my breaks completely- less than 24 hours after they had serviced the breaks.had car towed to dealer where they informed me that the master cylinder was bad and needed replaced- for $1400.this is not something that i believe i can wear unusually so that it would go bad like this, and so suddenly.it was an extremely dangerous situation it put me into where i was unable to stop my car without the use of the emergency brakes.i do not understand how the toyota break issues were recalled but this one has not been, it seems after searching the internet that this is not an uncommon problem with the ford escape hybrids.i feel let down by whatever agency it is that should be regulating this issue and by ford who until now i thought was a respectable corporation. Consumer stated complaint was submitted in 2010, sold the vehicle right after the incident. Updated 6/8/18

Tl. The contact 2007 ford escape hybrid.the contact stated while driving 5 mph the contact notice the abs and service brake was on.the contact drove the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer notice the hydraulic control unit had broken.the dealer nor the contact could not determine what caused the hydraulic control unit to brake.the contact has not called the manufacturer regarding the brake unit.the contact notice numerous complaints regarding the hydraulic control unit for this year make and model and stated this malfunction could cause a crash.the failure mileage was 34,000.jo

While driving the "service brake system" light came on. Abs light also came on and the brake pedal did not respond normally and car pulled hard to the left when braking. When can was turned off and back on the abs light was off but the problem has recurred 2 more times. Car was taken to the dealership and was diagnosed with faulty master brake cylinder sensor.*ln

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving at 20 mph and approaching a stop sign, the brakes failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic unit failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.updated 7/9/15

While driving on interstate 95 in northern virginia, my family and i we're cruising at highway speeds until traffic came to a sudden halt.my wife successfully applied the brakes in our 2007 ford escape hybrid and we came to a stop.however, following that stop, the brakes no longer functioned.we had managed to successfully negotiate the vehicle off the road and called for a tow truck.the only factor that led to the stopping of the vehicle was downshifting and use of the emergency brake.thankful we were safe, but frustrated because we had been at the ford dealership that morning to have a service light and weak braking power investigated.the technician told me that the service light could be a computer malfunction (to be remedied by a "re boot" of the system) or a failure of the electronic control module.he assured me the vehicle was safe to drive.in the end, both the electronic control module and hydraulic control module failed, resulting in the incident on i-95. Consumer stated he got rid of the vehicle after the brake failure.updated 6/8/18

The brakes suddenly did not work while pulling out of the parking lot. Abs light and parking lights came on and service brake warning. Diagnostic determine that hcu(hydraulic control unit) and anti-lock braking failed.

Brakes serviced on 07/12/10 certified ok.abs light on 07/21/10. Sheehy ford; springfield, va service manager states, "not our fault your fault!" suv has extended service warranty and vip member. Brakes certified as safe are unsafe.

Numerous intermittent brake/system issues. Including grabbing during transition from regenerative to normal braking during wet/frozen conditions(causing poor control/sliding on slippery roads). First dealer, no trouble found, second dealer replaced front tone ring, did not correct, told to wait maybe a bulletin will be issued. Dealer retained part. Intermittent brake abs/traction control/4x4 warning messages (vehicle may fail to accelerate during failure and or unexpectedly jump side to side during normal acceleration). Dealer replaced rear rotation sensor. Dealer retained partclunking, lurching and loss of braking during transition from regenerative to normal braking (causes driver to depress pedal harder then when braking restores vehicle stops abruptly). Not checked by dealer.

Full brake failure on a brand new ford escape hybrid. Brakes failed at 3,000 miles on the car on my way to work. Dealer found and fixed a "computer" system defect that caused the braking system to fail completely. Scattered similar reports on the internet on the ford escape. If it hadn't been six am on a quiet street i would have crashed the car. There was no braking power whatsoever. Brake light warning did flash.

Total brake failure.abs and brake warning lights came on, followed by total brake failure.occurred following service at ford dealership.the problem first occurred to mechanics servicing the vehicle. I was not told that a brake failure had occurred to the vehicle.

2007 ford escape hybrid. The car skid as i apply brakes. It is very dangerous.

I was leaving the parking lot at my office and "service brake system" "service 4x4" and abs light all come on. It appears to be split tone ring - a well known issue with ford escape hybrid if you search with google.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced by a dealer, the dealer stated that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 79,000. The vin was unknown.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the abs and brake light indicators illuminated intermittently. The dealer stated that there was internal abs control module and hcu failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 86,600.

Power steering quit while pulling into a parking lot.display showed a yellow wrench and "service pwr steering" message appeared.drove the vehicle home then to the dealership on manual steering.very difficult to turn vehicle on manual steering.dealership detected a bad steering module and replaced it with a new one.the problem appears to have been resolved.

Power steering failed suddenly while driving nearly causing a serious accident. This appears to be a known problem for 2007 ford escape vehicles and there is a recall - but for some reason it only covers 2008-2011 even though the message boards show dozens of 2007s with the exact same problem. In fact, my vehicle was manufactured in the same kansas city plant during the covered period (after august 18, 2006), yet it is inexplicably not included in the recall.after having the power steering module replaced with a used one. The steering failed again after barely a day. This is a widespread problem that should be included in the ford 14s05 recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000.

I was turning to a parking lot and turned the wheel all the way to the parking spot and the light on the dash illiminated reads service power steering wheel. Power steering is out its very hard to turn almost impossible. Restared the car and problem still exist. Failured milage is about 160k mile.

I purchased the car october 2016. November 2016 the power steering malfunctioned. Nov 18 the dealer advised i needed a new power steering module.

The vehicle was being driven on my home street at low speed when power steering failed suddenly, resulting in manual steering only.with great difficulty, vehicle was then parked.dashboard error message displayed:svc power steering.

While pulling into a parking space, my car suddenly became extremely difficult to steer. The yellow wrench light lit up, and the digital read-out said to service the power steering. I took the car to the dealer two days ago.they are still trying to pinpoint the problem. They are now replacing the module, but advised that may not work; if it does not, they say the steering rack will need to be replaced.i am aware of ford's recently announced recall of 2008 and later escapes for power steering failures.after discussing that with the dealer, i called ford customer service and spoke with a representative. He said my car is not covered by the recall.i told him i understood that, but perhaps their recall should be expanded. He asked why i was calling, and i said the dealer had told me to call and start the claims process. At first, he told me there was no claim i could make because the recall doesn't cover my car, but ultimately gave me a case number.(i don't know if he actually a claim or just gave me a number to get me off the phone.)

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving 60 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

Was making a right hand turn and power steering locked up in middle of the street , with cars coming in both directions nearly got hit .... Had to use extreme force to steer car to side of street..... Power steering module went bad

The power steering completely failed while driving my 2007 ford escape hybrid, the steering instantly became extremely stiff and i was forced off the road and immediately stopped on the side of the road. I could not turn the wheel without extreme amount of effort. The yellow wrench symbol lit up and a warning message came up: "service pwr steering." the fail was instant and nearly caused me to crash into another vehicle parked on the side of the road. I had just completing a left turn when the power steering failed and almost lost control of the vehicle when it steering seized up.i checked all 4 fused related to the power steering and all of them are good. Upon further research this is a common problem with ford hybrid vehicles and it requires the entire steering column to be replaced (a $1500-$2000 job). There has not been a recall on this issue, but needs to be asap.

Power steering went out. Searching the internet showed many people had to replace the power steering module at near $1000. They did recall this same module on the 2008 for safety purposes. This should be expanded to include the previous models.the vehicle turned on and the power steering never came on. Temperature was -2 degree f. Service inditcator light came on and the instrument panel said service power steering.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic due to rear wheel noises. The technician diagnosed that the frame was totally rusted and could only be repaired by rebuilding the entire frame. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall; therefore, no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 206,000. The vin was not provided.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While driving at various speeds over a bump in the road, the contact heard an abnormal loud clunking noise under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger shocks failed and pushed through corroded metal in the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 190,000.

Open door warnings are constant when doors are not ajar and car is in motion.dealer could not find the cause of this constant annoyance. This happens within minutes of the car being started.

Same as everyone else, very dangerous 'stop safely now' in the middle of highway traffic, managed to pull through it all and not die. It was cold and rainy outside while we waited for a tow truck on a narrow roadside. Brought to near by ford dealership and they 'thought' it might be the dc to dc converter but were not sure about it, so rather than dropping $3 grand on a 'maybe' i got it towed back to my house. Where it now sits and won't start still has the same error message. I feel like it might be something small, other people have said they changed the dc to dc converter and its usually not the problem.

2007 ford escape engine will cut off and tell me to pull over safe. Has happen down freeway, stop sign, and leave in stop light in middle of road. This is very unsafe. Called dealership and they said are 07 ford escape does not qualify for the recall.

Driving home, on highway 880, 110 miles from home, our car loses all power, accelerator stops working completely. We coast to the side of the highway. Turn key to off position, start it up again. As we drive off - absolutely no warning - car stops working again and again. This occurred over a dozen times. Losing power on highway, we hit the hazard lights and try to maneuver over to the side of the road, coasting. The worst was coming over 152, hecker pass. Nowhere to pull over.we lost power many, many times with absolutely no warning. It turns out the car needed a new transmission cooling pump. There is a tsb (08-24-5) out on this car stating that "this condition may result in reduced power as the system activates fail safe operation."there is no "reduced power" - there is absolutely no power! very unsafe. We are lucky to have survived the drive home. Ford is very aware of this part being defective and has designed a completely different transmission cooling pump (found "on the shelf") to replace the ones that are defective and going bad in the cars they sold. I bought this brand new 2007 ford escape and feel my safety has been compromised by ford not recalling this part that causes such an extreme "fail safe" mode as stopping my car on the highway, repeatedly. I have the "old" transmission cooling pump that was removed from my car that stopped working. I think that ford should reimburse us for thecost diagnostic work and replacement of the new part, including labor. My back has been in spasms for 3 days now because of the stress from the drive home that took almost 5 hours. I would like ford to reimburse us for the repairs of $554.

We were stopped at a red light when we heard a loud noise like a gunshot.as we turned around in the car to see what was happening, the rear window shattered and exploded out.the front windshield developed a crack from the driver side to the passenger side in an arc pattern.all glass and one of the hinges from the rear window blew out of the car from the explosion.the car was warmed and wasn't the first time it was used that day.it was raining, there was no frost or ice on the windows. The rear defroster was not on and the rear wiper was not on.we were not moving and neither were any of the vehicles around us because of the red light.since all glass fell out, we knew that nothing hit the glass to cause it to shatter. I have been reading on various web sites that this has happened to many other ford escape owners.especially over the past month but in all different model years.i called my insurance company to put in a claim but there is a $500 deductible.if this is a safety recall issue then i should be reimbursed for my expenses by ford.

The contact owns a 2007 ford escape hybrid. While backing out of the driveway at approximately 5 mph, the front wheels failed to turn without warning. The vehicle was driven back into the driveway. The failure was not diagnosed and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,820.
