December 6 2013 my car was struck on center column. The truck went through a stop sign striking my car as i was making a left turn. The side airbag should have deployed according to the manual that came with my vehicle but did not. There were neck injuries sustained by me which i believe could have been prevented had the side air bag deployed. Called ford and local dealer. Neither one would give an answer as to why they did not deploy.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On feb 25, 2016, my car was hit by a car at my rear part, and then i hit a car at my front. My front airbag came out from steering wheel and at the same time my right hand was burned by the hot gas leaking from the air bag. My injury is in a 2in x 2in size. My hand get recovered after one month leaving a dark scar.i bought this car from a dealer. I was told that this car had a accident in 2006/2007, the rear part was hit and repaired, the dealer showed me the carfax, but i didn't keep a copy. The front airbag should be the original installation.i did email the details to ford, but the answer from ford was that this is not the manufacturer's problem, and no explanation at all. After google searching the possibility of air bag leaking of hot gas, an exactly same injury was reported on chrysler:http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1999-02-25/business/9902250383_1_air-bag-hand-burns-chrysler-vehicles.

The air bag assembly on the steering wheel has an extremely thin cover, it is much thinner than the one on my 2003 ford excursion or the onemy 2009 kia.the covering is a little thicker than a piece of paper and it isnow cracking.it currently has about a one and a half inch crack on the covering located on the right side.this seems to be a safety concern. This vehicle is garaged and does not remain outdoors for extended periods.when it is outdoors a sunscreen shade is used on the windshield to reduce solar damage.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the back up lights and camera failed to activate, which deactivated the alert chime. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred after the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While traveling on an interstate hwy at 70 mph andpassing a semi, the engine shut off and the stop safely now warning came on. There was no warning, i lost speed and barely moved out of the way of the truck. This failure almost cost me and my passenger our lives. The car started again about half an hour later but only ran long enough to limp to a gas station. We called aaa, had the car towed to a dealership where they diagnosed it as either the ignition switch or the pcm...i have two sons who aretop mechanics. This is not the problem. They believe a wiring harness for the hybrid battery is defective, and that there was a letter sent to all hybrid owners. I took this letter to the local dealership when i received it. They said it didn't pertain to my vehicle and did not perform the required maint. Really? this is a serious safety hazard. How many accidents, deaths, or near misses must happen before ford reacts and actually owns up? fyi blogging is out there for us all!

The contact owns a 2006 ford escaper hybrid. The contact stated that a triangle warning symbol illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the failure was diagnosed as the electronic motor cooling pump trans axle having overheated.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was taken. The contact stated that the battery had also failed several times. The dealer performed a diagnostic that was unable to locate a failure code. In addition, the air conditioner, water pump, electronic battery and the cooling fan were replaced but the failure was not corrected.the vehicle was not further repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 73,000.

Electric assisted power steering not functional. Dealer troubleshooting consisted of reading codes, then indicating that the entire rack and pinion assembly needed replaced ($2200). Replaced the assembly, still doesn't work. The electronic steering control module was replaced, still doesn't work. The repair shops and the dealers have inadequate information and training to repair these electric steering systems. There should be adequate information and training to identify the failed component, as opposed to swapping out large assemblies, and still not fixing the problem. These systems appear to have a high failure rate, and present a huge safety issue when they fail while driving! please issue a recall asap!

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated while driving various speeds the service soon light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the jumper harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 36,000.updated 8/13/13

Car shuts off with little or no warning, 3 times now, once on interstate 64. Dealer first said hybrid battery bad, 2nd opinion from hybrid battery company said battery good. Dealer said, 2nd time with car, need a $600 repair that will resolve. Now, dealer says no, the battery is still the issue. They still cannot state why the car does it, what will make this car safe to drive and if they truly know it is the battery, why did they do the $600 repair and tell us that would fix the problem.i have asked wynne ford in hampton va, the dealer, for a poc at ford motor company to be able to get answers on how to make/know our12 yr old car is safe to drive, been over a month, but have recieved no information from wynne ford. I guess i need to drive to michigan to see mr. William clay ford jr for answers. I do not know the exact mileage on the vehicle, vehicle is at the dealership. Also, the issue has happened 3 times but the latest was around oct 2018. Each incident, we had to get vehicle towed.

Error code is "stop safely now".i was driving, and all in the sudden - an error message came up on dash display "stop safely now".immediately, the car was totally shut down right after, lost the ability to stop, and i have no controls of any thing.i was lucky that i'm in a middle of a parking lot.i almost got hit with the car drove right behind me.what if this incident occurs on a freeway at a high speed. My car is fully well maintenance with such low miles for 2006.

While traveling home on an interstate at 70 mph the red brake light came on after a light breaking situation. I did the system check available on the vehicle and the brake fluid was shown as ok. The brake pads were replaced not long ago so i was confused. A short time later the yellow abs light came on. When i went to brake my foot went to the floorboard and the vehicle was not stopping. I swerved onto the shoulder of the interstate to avoid an accident. It took a great distance ( i would say more than 100 yards ) for the vehicle to stop. I was never so scared in my life. I drove home on side streets at 25 mph with my warning lights flashing and virtually no brakes. After taking the vehicle to a ford dealership i researched the break failure issue and to my amazement found numerous other such incidents. After five days in the repair shop and three failed attempts by the technician to bleed the break lines i was told that i needed a $4200 computer control unit. I believe this is a serious design flaw in the electrically controlled break system of the hybrid vehicle and no person should have to go through the terror of attempting to stop from 70 mph with the breaking system shut down. This is a timebomb waiting to go off in the form of a fatal accident.

Was driving to work in the morning. Had been in the car approximately 10 minutes when the abs, brake, and service brakes, indicators came on all at once. Depressed brake pedal only to discover that i did in factnot have any brakes. Turned on emergency flashers and began to merge over into right hand shoulder, repeatedly stomping on brake pedal. Was able to come to a stop. This incident happened while i was approaching a very busy 3-way intersection, off of a major highway. Turned car off and back on to see if this was a malfunction, but all three indicators came on again. Had vehicle towed to ford dealership. Paid $5280.03 in parts and labor to have faulty hydraulic unit repaired, and hcu and hybrid system bleed. Had not had any problems with this vehicle in the past. Very thankful that this incident did not cause an accident or injuries to myself or others....updated 04/11/17updated 10/16/2017

At 65 mph on hwy 5 in los angeles the vehicle died and the" stop safely now" message came on. Fortunately, i was able to safely get from the 3rd lane to the shoulder. After putting the car in park and turning off the key i was able to restart and continue. About 15 miles later it did the same thing again with the same message. Again able to safely pull off the freeway and after putting it in park turned the key off and back on and was again on my way. Both times the cruise control was on so after that i did not use the cruise and have not had another occurrence.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While driving approximately 35 mph, the high motor temperature and stop vehicle safely warning lights displayed as the vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the motor electronics coolant pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.

While driving on the freeway my car lost all power and said stop safely now. I pulled to the side of the road and 10 minutes later the car started up and i was able to drive home. The car did not do this again for over a year. At that time i was driving in tucson az and it lost all power in the middle of an intersection.fortunatly it started right away and i was able to get to a parking lot.after a lot of research we replaced the electric cooling motor only to have it continue to shut down with the stop safely now displayed. After more research we replaced the blend door actuator with no results. Ford really needs to do a recall and fix this problem before people die. The car shuts down with no warning and it happens so fast. If there is no where to pull over you are stuck in the road and a target for other vehicles to run into.

August 2011 - had driven approximately 200 miles tn into va when stop safely now message appears.pulled over, waited a few minutes and started the engine.no help available locally as it was small town late saturday.decided to continue trip home - drove slowly in right lane for last 200 miles.no recurrance the rest of the way.my mechanic could find nothing wrong upon return home.did not occur again until june 9, 2012 - about 150 miles from home.same scenario - stopped for a minute then went on.happened again on june 20, 2012.after stop and go traffic then running at 70 mph when message appears, this time the engine shut down immediatly and i barely got onto the shoulder with traffic speeding by about 2 feet off my right.tried to start again but message that the engine was dangerously heated appeared.after sitting for about 10 minutes, it started, i turned on the heat (despite 90+ outside temp) and got off at next exit and parked for about an hour.started up and drove home.no other occurance since.my mechanic tells me now that i need a coolant pump based on the stored service code.will cost over $700 part and labor.just hope it fixes it.it is extremely dangerous when the engine shuts down with only seconds of warning.in the area i live, i wouldn't always be able to even get onto a shoulder safely.

Our vehicle seemingly randomly shuts off all power to the engine and the electric motor.this can happen while we are moving or stopped in an intersection.we get a message of stop safely now on the dashboard.when you are in the middle of an intersection waiting to turn left in six lanes of traffic and your car stops for no apparent reason this isn't very safe.this has happened about 30 times.sometimes it goes a year without a mishap or three times in one day.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system) and stated that the parts were not available. The dealer did not provide a specific date for when the parts would become available to schedule the recall repair. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the part would become available. The contact continued to experience the failure in which the vehicle was extremely slow to pick up speed upon pressing the acceleration pedal. The approximate failure mileage was not available.

We were driving east on i-26in south carolina at 65 mph in 3 lanes of traffic when the triangle hazard warning light on the dashsoundedand lit up saying "pull over safely now". At the same time , with the gas peddle floored, the speed of the car was slowing by the second! the gas peddle did not work. We were able to pull over and turn the car off without getting hit by oncoming traffic. Per the manual, we waited awhile and restarted the car, and were able to get it home.i called the ford customer care line to ask if it was safe to drive the car and would this happen again. They were not helpful at all. They basically told me to take it to a dealership. Our local dealership said they knew nothing about the issue i described, but diagnosed the problem as being an mecs pump failure for $135. The replacement cost would be $800. Due to the high cost quote and knowing that it only takes 45 minutes or less to change this pump, we took it elsewhere. The part is $277. Our concern is that how could ford dealers not know about this dangerous defect, when in 3 seconds you can pull up hundreds of websites covering this failure, and the dangerous and potentially fatal accident it could cause. Now i have found this us dot website which has hundreds of complaints on this issue also,i am hoping more people will come forward to get these cars off the road.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While driving at an unknown speed, an unknown warning icon displayed on the instrument panel. When the contact powered off the engine and restarted the vehicle, the warning indicator no longer appeared. The vehicle was taken to wilson ford lincoln (328 main st, logan, ut 84321, (435) 752-7355) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be found. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hybrid battery failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,533.

2006 ford escape hybrid - intermittent power brake boost failure. When beginning to press on brakes for an instant they feel normal and power assisted, then the pedal falls and all power assist is gone.the vehicle stops with great pressure in the last few inches of pedal travel.3 occurrences:as of october 4, 20101. May 2010 at the end of a freeway off ramp at approximately 160,000 miles on the vehicle2. 24 september , 2010 ( approximately 180,000 miles on the vehicle) same brake problem occurred after a stop of over 30 minutes, and when the vehicle was backed up, first brake pressing resulted in an instant of pedal , then pedal snapping to the floor and car stopping after application of manual pressure.dash indicator lights came on a few seconds later.3. One week to the day later, 1 october, 2010 at approximately 188,500 miles.first brake application after a start of the vehicle and backing up. Pressing brakes resulted in the failure described.approximately 30 or 40 seconds after the loss of brake boost the dashboard lit up with "brakes" red light and otherslike the 'service soon' wrench. I am the purchaser of the car new in the los angeles, california area, and the primary ( over 90% of the time) driver, covering over 110 miles 4 days a week.

Driving my ford escape hybrid on i 5 wa state.warning lite came on that said stop safely now and my engine had stopped.i was in the left lane on the highway and had to unsafely maneuver 4 lanes to the right without the engine on..i read my manual and it said to try and start, which it did.3 miles later it did it again. This went on for 4 or 5 more times.i got off the highway and limped to a ford dealer.they repaired it, it as a hybrid component cooling pump.it cost me $726.00.they wouldn't cover it.i view this as a severe safety problem.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid.the contact has experienced multiple failures with the vehicle shutting off without warning.while driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off and all of the instrument panel lights illuminated.in addition, a light illuminated that read, "stop safely now".the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not duplicate or determine the cause of the failure.the dealer advised the contact to call the manufacturer.the manufacturer stated that the dealer would call him to take the vehicle back to the dealer.when the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, they still could not duplicate the failure.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer could provide a remedy for the failure.the vehicle continues to shut off while driving at any speed.the failure mileage was 37,692 and current mileage was 52,000.updated 08/19/09.

1) we have been receiving a yellow wrench light indicating maintenance needed off and on for a couple of weeks even though we were well within the maintenance period.this turns out to be an issue with the blend door for allowing air cooling of the hybrid batteries.2) the power steering went out completely for the car.we have had no prior problems with the steering, and the system check showed no problem (i believe it checks fluid levels) so the problem appeared to be electrical.

This is the second time in two months car warnings to "stop vehicle safety" in a middle of highways. We just had a few seconds to pulled vehicle off the road and is very dangerous maneuver it. Once we pulled it off we turned off engine and waited for a few minutes to restarted again to complete our destination. This is a very delicate situation due the short time to react when engine suddenly turns off. We have two kids and our life had been in tremendously danger to be hit by another car.

The abs light comes on, and after driving it for a few minutes, the brakes completely do not work. After bringing it to a ford dealership, the part itself is about $5,000 not including labor. (hydrocolic control unit). They didnt recommend fixing it because of how expensive it is. I still owe $5,000 so im stuck paying for a part that is worth more then the car itself.

Driving on the interstate and the car shuts down displaying a stop safely now error.... Apparently a faulty pump. The same pump that we've already replaced 3 times..... Not only is this annoying but it's a huge safety problem. The vehicle loses all power!

My vehicle has 75,000 miles on it. I bought it oct.9,2015 with 72,000 miles on it. In may 2016 the engine started cutting out and the message would read "service engine" along with a yellow wrench appearing on the dash. I had the vehicle taken to the local ford dealer and was told i needed a harness. I paid 1004.00 for the new harness and they also installed a fan for the hybrid system. The car did it again a few days later and i had it towed back to the dealer. The service department told me they had made a mistake and had to call ford to get the correct codes to fix the car. I was told it was done and picked it up. The same thing happened less than 4 days later. I had the car towed again and let the dealership send my car home with a mechanic for 2 days. I was told nothing is wrong and picked it up. I now have the abs light coming on, the red triangle safety light coming on, the red brake light coming on, the low tires light coming on (it stays on) and the yellow wrench light coming on. At night when i turn on my right blinker the high beams come on. The dealership says there is nothing wrong and no codes come up on their machine. When i brake i have to push very hard and sometimes the brakes lock up on me. I have avoided accidents so far but i am concerned at this point. I do not want to be injured or killed and i certainly do not want to injure or kill anyone in an accident that could be avoided, if ford had a mechanic that knows what is happening with the car. When i am driving the car will suddenly shut off in traffic and i have to stop, put the car in park and restart it. This is good for about 10 minutes before it acts up again.

Time of day: 1800, temperature about 80f. "stop safely now" message appeared on console. Vehicle slowed down while traveling at 65mph on an interstate highway during a heavy rush hour traffic. Fortunately, i was traveling on the left lane and safely moved to the left curb and within seconds the engine died. I kept trying to start but no success. While on the phone with the insurance company for a tow truck, i tried again, and the engine restarted. I was able to continue driving home for about 25 minutes, approximately 15 miles. While approaching a traffic light, the "stop safely now" message appeared and this time the car died in the middle of the street. This time, it died within 3 seconds after the message appeared. It was a major safety hazard when other cars were approaching and with very little room to stop and react. This was in a 35 mph residential zone. I had to call a local police department to assist managing the traffic. After about 15 minutes, i was able to start the car again and continued the last 2 blocks to my resident.this is a serious safety issue that could have resulted in multi cars accident had i not had the opportunity to drive to the curb before it stopped.

I was traveling on the highway @ 65 mph when i experienced a 'catastrophic engine failure' with four occupants. I don't know if it was skilled driving, divine intervention or just plain luck that permitted me to safely stop the vehicle without a crash or injury.had vehicle towed by aaa to dealership.service department said the "hybrid battery cooling system" had failed and caused the engine to stop with no warning.i was almost rear-ended by a semi truck.

As my seventeen years old daughter was pulling out of the driveway for school she noticed the steering was hard to turn. She took my car to school. I went to try and move the car back up the driveway and could barely turn the wheel myself. Luckily she was at home and not on the road. There is no assisted steering anymore, it just went out.

The vehicle hesitates when accelerating after coming from a stop, it is not transmission, it is like it is not getting fuel.the vehicle suddenly without warning or reason shuts off all power while driving.the red triangle with exclamation light comes on with a warning to stop safely now on the dashboard and you are stranded. This has happened both while accelerating from a stop and while driving both freeway and surface street speeds, suddenly. I am afraid not only to not only drive the vehicle but having anyone in the car with me, especially making a left turn.it is not a safe vehicle.it has left me stranded on a dark street around 9pm, cutting off on the freeway leaving me no choice but to coast off the side of the freeway.again it just shut down again while driving straight @ 40 mph, while driving on the surface streets, this time it was early evening but once again left alone stranded until the tow truck comes.the dealer can find nothing wrong with the vehicle and indicated there are no recalls that would address this problem.but i can see through the complaints there is an obvious problem with this vehicle, which is an extreme safety issue that is not being addressed.

We purchased this ford escape hybrid in august, 2012, after procuring a pre-sale evaluation at ford dealer 1, including a full vin search for any incomplete recalls.the evaluation found nothing incomplete.returning home 6.11.14, on our residential street, the escape without prior warning flashed 'stop vehicle safely' and simultaneously turned off all power. Research indicated a failed oem mecs coolant pump (tsb 08-24-5), and we had issues getting the correct part from ford dealer 1 and sourced a dorman part from the local x auto parts store, supplying it to an ase-certified shop for installation (vehicle inoperable/on a lift). Another 'stop vehicle safely' event occurred 6.24.14 with my family in the vehicle on an expressway entrance ramp, with the escape taken to ford dealer 2 for evaluation. Ford dealer 2's vin check found csp 07b48 and tsb 09-18-6, not available previously. Ford dealer 2 made repairs consistent with the csp/tsb on 7.12.14 at our expense. These serious safety implications well-known to ford (both csp 07b48/tsb 09-18-6 and tsb 08-24-5) were not identified by ford dealer 1 in our pre-purchase inspection, or by ford in a prior investigation and repair of the corrosion issues in this escape. We are concerned that known/identified safety issues generating an errant bcm signal disabling the car made this particular escape a ticking time bomb. We could not have been aware of the issues despite our diligence, but ford had direct access to that information.we were fortunate when/where our failures occurred. For anyone else in a similar escape with the csp 07b48/tsb 09-18-6 and tsb 08-24-5 repairs not already accomplished, the nhtsa should compel a long-overdue recall for the affected vehicles.

On cold morning, car started drove down the road about 5 miles and the car just died, saying "brake safely now."seems to happen only on cold days when heater is on.it will not start again for 30 minutes.it will start, but will continuously die. We had called ford in middlesboro, ky and spoken with frank who said our vehicle did not have any recalls. I then found out it had a recall.i took it in over the weekend and he then claimed on monday that the recall item had been fixed.however, when i checked the website, it confirmed the problem had not been fixed.this has been going on for about a month now.we have had the oil changed, battery replaced and it checked by ford of morristown, tn.they claim they can't find out whats wrong with it.we have read other people's similar complaints who said it was either the "electric motor water pump" or coolant pump.

While driving on i-195 east going towards bwi the engine just cut off for no reason or warning then a red traingle appearedstop safely i was able to pull over safely was almost rear ended by a tractor trailer the car would not turn back on for about 5 min after it startedi had no power what so ever when about 2 miles at 30 miles per hour and it did it again managed to get it home based on what i have been reading why has ford not recalled this issues or are they waiting for some one to get killed there needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt. I am looking into getting a lawyer if ford does not want to fix it.

I was driving in the fast lane on the highway at 70 mph when my car basically shut down and told me to "pull over safely". A red triangle (with the exclamation point in the center) appeared on the message board along with the "pull over safely" message and a chiming/alert sound. This was on labor day, so the highway was incredibly busy and it was very difficult to cross over lanes and "pull over safely". Additionally, when this message appears, it pretty much shuts down your car, not allowing you to accelerate at all which also made it more difficult to get over. I managed to pull over, turned off my car and then restarted it. That was all it took. No additional messages or problems...yet. I probably had to drive an additional 30 miles or so home without any additional messages showing up. This seriously frustrated me as i have yet to be able to find much more information on the issue. It seems to be caused for a different reason for each person. I honestly do not know what genius at ford thought it was a good idea to incorporate that feature into the vehicle. It was an extremely scary situation and put the safety of myself, those in my car, and the cars around me at a serious risk for our safety. In addition, it is very hard to feel safe driving in my car now, as i do not know when this will happen again or what will prompt it.

I had gone va beach to washington d.c. And was on the way back when the vehicle had completely shutdown just before the hampton roads bridge tunnel in newport news. We were on the interstate during the entire trip and was lucky to be in the right lane. A aaa be tow truck pulled us off to the side. We tried to restart it but it shut off. Everything else was working fine. I went back the next day and the vehicle worked fine. I had it checked out by the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I just had the cooling pump replaced because of the recall. I looked at the manual and it stated that when the high voltage battery gets too hot that it will shut off. This could cause a serious accident. I believe that ford should find a way to allow the vehicle to still operate on gas power when high voltage battery needs to cool down and to find a way to allow better ventilation so the battery does not get so hot since it is located in the trunk where people put their belongings.

I was driving to work when all of a sudden a yellow wrench light came on, my car shut down, and i had to coast across 3 lanes of highway traffic to stop on the shoulder. It wouldn't startat first, then i tried again and it started and drove the rest of the way just fine. I have read hundreds of complaints about the same issue. Apparently the throttle body has a defect getting open or closed, codes p2111 and p2112, respectively. This is very dangerous and i can't believe a recall hasn't been issued for this by ford. I was already victim of another recall for the mep failing that caused the same thing to happen, complete system shut down. What kind of joke for a safe vehicle is this? i'm abhorred and will never buy another ford, and i will make sure everyone i speak to knows how much ford doesn't take care of their customers. They should be ashamed.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While driving approximately 55 mph, the stop safely light was illuminated. The vehicle stalled after approximately five seconds and was towed to the dealer. The technicians stated that the cooling fan unit for the hybrid battery and the wiring safety harness would need replacing. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred a second time while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technicians informed the contact that the cooling fan unit for the hybrid battery and the wiring safety harness needed to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. Updated 08/01/11*ljthe vehicle was repaired again for the second time for the same problem on june 29, 2011.updated 08/02/11

While going about 73mph in passing lane-heard "beep" dashboard had red triangle lite up and a message to stop safely now--then car just stopped!! i was in the far left lane--pulled off into median--read manual--started car up and went--on return trip same thing--although now i was always looking for my "exit"--although was panicking going thru tunnel in boston.ford had recall on this system that ended in 2009--i bought this in 2012.brought to ford dealer--they said there was no recall and for a starting fee of $120/hr they could take a look.i called ford in mi-told too late--too bad..so now i have printed out recall and will bring to a different dealer on monday.saw that this is an ongoing safety issue that ford will not take ownership of.

Ford mec pump recall, did not help after replacing part. My escape died on me while going 70 mph on a busy highway, with my 18-month old son in the back seat. The "stop safely now" message appeared and i was barely able to get over 3 lanes onto the shoulder before it stopped completely, with cars speeding right past me. This was very dangerous. It happened 2 more times on the way home. This was during the last half of just a 20 mile trip.

Stop safely now & service soon - wrench.

While driving, a warning light came on stating " safely pull over and stop now", the vehicle stalled out, no power at all. I pulled over and after a few minutes restart it. Everything sounded fine. I talk to a ford dealer whom seem not to know what caused it.i have an engine code p1a0c (etb), from my actron@ device. I started to have it fixed but i went online and found i'm not the only person with issue and the solutions giving by the dealer's service have been all differenti'm not sure if any of them fixed the issue. Some have stated that their vehicle stalled out while on the highway. I'm not sure if it is safe to drive on the highway.

After a long freeway drive, was on a side road and car died...engine stopped...red light i've never seen before, came on. I was able to pull to the side of the road. Put car in park, took a deep breath and tried to start it again. It started and worked fine until the next incident, several months later. It has now happen 4-6 times, always when on a city street, not the freeway.

Car stalled out while driving.it happened 3 more times before i took it to the ford dealer who told me it was the throttle body.

I was accelerating on the freeway, and the engine stalled. I could still steer to the side, but the engine had absolutely no power. Came very close to getting rear-ended. Brought car in for service. They said nothing was wrong with it. Continued to have multiple similar occurrences. Brought it in again. This time they said the battery fan wasn't working, so i paid a lot to have it fixed (about a year ago), however, i still have continued to have the same problem, more often and on many occasions now. It seems to be getting much worse. I dread driving on freeways now, especially up hills. I am bringing my car in for service again later this week. Wonder what line they are going to give me this time.

2006 ford escape hybrid.consumer writes in regards to vehicle completely lost all power while driving.smdthe consumer also stated a red triangle appeared on the instrument panel.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While driving 55 mph, the engine stalled and failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. In addition, the "stop safely now" warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the cooling pump needed to be replaced. The contact called day ford (located at2124, 3696 william penn hwy, monroeville, pa 15146, (412) 856-0600) and was informed that the vehicle needed diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 187,621.

I was about 4 miles from my home traveling the highway about 45mph after a 16 mile trip. Without warning the engine stopped and the dashboard showed a red triangle and the words stop safely now. I had no choice as all power was gone. I was fortunate to not be on the freeway at top speed! i waited about 5 minutes then restarted the vehicle and proceeded home. About an hour later i ran an errand that usually takes about 25 minutes round-trip. It took almost an hour; the engine stoppage and stop safely now business happened three times. Each time i waited 5-10 minutes and proceeded on my way. The car never showed any check engine warnings, chimes, noises or operational difficulties--it just happened suddenly and without warning. This is very dangerous and i am terrified to take my vehicle on the freeway or venture far from town!

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and several warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. Also, when the brakes were applied, the brake pedal would be very stiff, and the vehicle would skid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the fan was changed in the hybrid system; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Car went from a high speed 60km to no acceleration in the middle of traffic. The engine was still running but the car would not accelerate. The error code indicate a throttle body issue.

I am sitting on i-95 in connecticut and almost got into an accident.my truck just stopped. The red triangle with the explanation point came on and the car flashed "stop safely". All systems are normal. This has happened 3 times this trip and i'll be lucky to get home alive.

Driving on the interstate and the car shuts down displaying a stop safely now error.... Apparently a faulty pump. The same pump that we've already replaced 3 times..... Not only is this annoying but it's a huge safety problem. The vehicle loses all power!

While driving on highway at high speed (55mph), entire powertrain (gas engine and hybrid motor) completely shutdown with no warning leading to an abrupt loss of power and control of the vehicle, and was unable to completely pull off the road safely.the dashboard information center just displayed "stop safely now."there was no warning of this at all.vehicle would not restart.after sitting for one hour, vehicle restarted and drove perfectly for another 3 days, then the same thing happened again on local streets, leaving the car in a very dangerous position in the middle of the street.brought into shop and they could not find anything wrong with it.i am almost afraid to drive this vehicle anymore.

My 06' hybrid escape completely shut down, it just gave me a " please pull over now". I almost caused a major accident on i44 at 75mph because of all power loss. When i was on the side of the highway i let it sit for like a minute and then restarted the engine and it drove a good 5 minutes at about 60 mph but as soon as i accelerated above 60 it gave me the sign again, and i had to repeat the process. I drove it home on the access road staying between 30-40 and thank god, it made it home.

My 2006 ford escape hybrid cut off the combustion engine while traveling down a country rd. Was able to pull off with declining power in the electric engine. Display read "pull over safely" and nothing else. I brought it in to both a ford dealership who referred me to a toyota dealership because they didn't have anyone who knew about hybrid cars. Since the problem did not occur at the time i brought it in and there were no problems showing on a diagnostic test they could not do anything. The suv has done this numerous times since and sometimes shuts off both engines in the middle of the highway. I thought speed and hard driving were the problem which it tends to happen more so on 45min or greater drives but has been known to do this at 15mph in residential areas. Very scary, especially on crowded high speed roads as you cannot "pull over safely" with neither motor running. If their excuse is its a safety feature it is not very safe. I contacted ford via e-mail and they were nice enough to refer me back to the original ford dealership and send the dealership the e-mail i had sent to their customer support in confidence stating i did not trust the dealership and they should investigate their practices (for previous reasons relating to other car issues). Saw many posts in forums that this problem relates to the cooling pump for the electric motor. Ordering a new coolant pump online as i will not go to the ford (as i saw a post eloquently put) "stealership".

See attached repair invoice # 68143 dated 01/04/2018. Landmark ford tualatin, or 97281 defective high voltage battery cooling fans & defective throttle body assypaid invoice amt $2208.95.

I have owned this car since 2006 when i bought it new. After about four years the battery pack blew and had to be replaced. It would have cost $4000 but thankfully i had purchased the extended warranty and it was covered. On sept. 20, 2014 the car threw a rod and the engine was completely destroyed. The mechanic said it would cost $5000 to fix it with a rebuilt engine but that it wasn't worth it because the engines for these cars are notoriously unreliable and it would probably just fail again. It was recommended that we scrap the car. The entire lifecycle of this vehicle was only 8 years which is absolutely preposterous. Cars should last longer.

Hybrid mec pump failure:my vehicle had the mec hybrid coolant pump failure that is common to this vehicle. My particular vin # was not included in the large scale recall undertaken by ford. I had the pump replaced by a ford dealer in 2011, and then again in 2012 after a second failure. This cost me over $3000 in total. I do not understand why my car is not covered under the recall. It should be.

Driving car and brakes failed completely. Had to jump on the brakes to get any traction whatsoever. Was fortunately able to use the emergency brake before i got into an accident.yellow abs and red brake lights are on, along with messages of check brake system and regen brakes disabled.appears to be a common problem with escape hybrid that it is the hydraulic control unit - a part to repair which is more expensive than the car is worth.

2006 ford escape hybrid.consumer writes in regards to vehicle "can shut off without warning" incident.the consumer stated a warning light in the shape of a wrench appeared on the dashboard. The vehicle was flat-bedded to the dealer. It was determined, the throttle body needed to be replaced.

2006 ford escape hybrid with approx. 140,000 miles. Initially, had problems with vehicle's gas engine stalling out while in motion and at various speeds from 35 to 55 mph. Message in dash said to pull over safely. This happened 5 times in one day and each time the vehicle would restart and run for only a few minutes. Next day it ran for about 15 minutes before occurring once again. Eventually the hybrid battery had no more juice and i have to be towed. Garage, not dealer dx sticking throttle linkage assembly. They cleaned it, recharged the hybrid battery and reprogrammed the computer. Vehicle worked well for 6 weeks and then problem returned. Only difference was that after initially stalling out when the engine was warm, on 2 occasions occurred when engine was cold. Returned it to garage where it stalled when cold one of those times. After that is didn't stall for them again. Garage looked on line and saw a number of possible causes for the problem, but no conclusive diagnosis or fix. They suggested that changing the throttle linkage assembly might fix the problem, but they were not confident of this. Vehicle not repaired.

My car hasn't had any other symptoms and was working fine. On 7/21/14 i was driving at 40 for maybe 5 minutes when the "safety alert" light came on and was prompted to pull over safely. I was in three lanes of traffic, goingup a large hill and was doing my best to make it over to the shoulder but the car was not accelerating above 20 at this point and was getting slower and slower. I made it over one lane and the car completely stopped and started rolling back a little. The car never turned off though ac, lights, radio, etc stayed on but nothing would happen when i pressed on the gas. I turned the car off for a few minutes and turned it back on and it worked normally for about a minute and then the same thing happened. I got the car towed to the dealership and was quoted around $800 to replace the throttle. Ford has recalled over half million vehicles for similar issues with the throttle, including many escapes.

I was driving at 55mph on a county road.all of a sudden the engine started to make a banging noise and i lost most power.i was able to limp into a oil change place.they looked at the oil and it was nearly empty.i have always changed the oil on time and done all other maintenance on this car.there was no apparent oil leak and no sign of burning oil.i had checked the oil about 300 miles prior.the oil just disappeared and the engine threw a rod necessitating a new engine.estimated repair cost 5-6k.i have read of at least 21 other people who experienced the exact same problem; the oil just disappeared and the engine throws a rod.there is obviously a defect in this engine.i was lucky that i was driving on a country road and not a freeway and had a place to pull over.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the hybrid battery was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (engine) and believed that the recall was directly related to the failrue. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving on an interstate highway and the engine shut down. The dash showed a warning stating something to the effect of 'stop safely now'. I steered the car to the shoulder of the road and tried to restart it and nothing happened. I waited a few minutes and the car started. It has run fine since then.this problem occurred a number of years ago with this same vehicle. I would be driving down the highway and the car would just stop. After a few minutes it would start again. Sometimes it would happen twice within an hour and then there would be no incidences for weeks to months and then it would happen again. A mechanic replaced an electrical component and it appeared that the problem was fixed until the incident above.i am the sole driver of the car and the original owner.

Stop safely now & service soon - wrench.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and a light illuminated that said stop safely now. The vehicle was restarted and operated as designed. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis.the vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 74,000.

I was driving down the highway in my 2006 ford escape hybrid going about 65 mph and started to accelerate to pass another vehicle and my car suddenly shut down. It was as if i slammed on the brakes. And i could not pick up speed after that. There was no warning on my dashboard only the display saying to "stop safely now". I pulled over and let the car idle for a minute. There was still not other warning and the car was not making any noises and no steam coming from hood. I shut it down, waited a minute, then restarted it. It started back up fine. Nothing on the display now and still not making any noise. I pulled ahead a little to see if it would move and it did. I let it idle for another minute then proceeded back onto highway to try to get home. I got up to about 40 mph and the same exact thing happened. I pulled back to side of highway and called aaa for a tow truck. When the tow truck came about 1 1/2 hours later, my car would not start at all at that point. Towed it to a shop who then said the car's oil was not reading on the dipstick. I had my oil changed in march by a reputable company and have always had my oil changed consistently. They told me my engine was gone and i needed a whole new one. I then had my car towed to a ford dealership, where i bought, it for a second opinion and he said the same thing that i needed to have my engine replaced due to internal engine noise. They also told me i needed the throttle body and coolant pump replaced. They also said no visible external oil leaks and no indication of internal engine use such as "blow-by". Their overall estimate to fix my car, including a new engine, is $8000.00. I never had at any point any indication that something was wrong with my car. No noises, no warning lights. I bought it brand new. I can't afford repairs of that magnitude. I called ford and they said there is nothing they can do.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While driving various speeds, the throttle body malfunctioned. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently on more than one occasion. Landmark ford in tigard, oregon was made aware of the failure and stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 124,000. The consumer stated the vehicle was repaired.

While driving at 70 mph on the highway, vehicle suddenly stops without warning and displays a "stop safely now" message. This happens on longer trips. It is very dangerous as there is no warning and no way to get off the highway. We are no longer safe to travel on the highway in this vehicle. This is a danger to all on the road and has been reported over and over happening with these vehicles.

Since 2010, when i've driven my car on the highway the stop safely light comes on. It stops right in traffic within minutes, leaving me know time to pull off. I've taken the car to the dealer and had all kinds of work completed from brakes to tuneup, then it starts again.this week was the work, june 3, 2012 the car stopped on a major highway in chicago and i was really scared for my life as other cars had to pull on their brakes.i have been to several dealers to tell me that nothing was wrong since 2012, while others tell me once we fix the brakes, the fuel filter, etc then the light will stay off, i've had no such luck. I invested a lot of money for this car only to be scared to drive it. I'm a mom of four children and i have not received any help from ford. I keep getting fix this or that only to have the same light come on and be stopped again, time after time.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and the message stating to "stop safely now" illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle restarted and resumed normal function. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the motor electronic coolant pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact was made aware of recall nhtsa campaign id number: 14v526000 (electrical system). However, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate mileage was 120,000.

I was driving on the freeway in the carpool lane, about 65mph. Heard a noise (sounded like the engine losing power) and saw the warning light to "stop safely now". Had to pull to left immediately, with very little room in the shoulder on a very busy freeway. This was a very hazardous and stressful situation, particularly because i had a toddler in the car with me. Car was towed to the nearest ford dealer. I was told by the dealer that the problem was failure of the mecs (motor electric cooling system). However, this is not under warranty or recall. This part should be considered for recall because of the serious safety hazard it poses when it fails.

My 2006 ford escape hybrid caught fire in the middle of the night 8 hours after the car was last used.

When in the middle of an intersection, suddenly the "stop safely now" light came on and the vehicle immediately shut down.the shut down appears to have been caused by a faulty coolant system.from online reports, this is a frequent problem with this model and is very unsafe.i was almost hit by surrounding traffic because of the immediate loss of power and control.

We were traveling on the freeway when a warning appeared on the display " stop safely now ". The engine lost power and we managed to move the car to the side of the road. I restarted the car and it appeared to work ok. Drove another 10 miles and the"stop safely now" reappeared and the car lost power. We pulled over. We waited for 10 minutes, restarted the car and it drove us home. Later when we were driving up our street, the same thing occurred.

2006 ford escape hybrid, right after the warning "stop safely now", the car shut down right in the middle of the road, and it happened three times on my way home. After web research, it is quite common for the ford escape hybrid cars. It is very dangerous since there is no time for you to stop safely before the car shut down, not even a 5 or 10 seconds. The dealer check it out, it was a water pump failure caused this, called ford, but ford denied any assistance. The repair costs more than $600.00. This is a safety issue and it is need to be fixed. Who is going to drive a car which will shut down in the middle of the road without any time to respond to?

On my way to work this morning the warning "stop safely now",illuminated on my dash and the vehicle immediately shutdown in the middle of the road.i was very fortunate that i was only going 25 miles per hour and immediately put my emergency lights on which prevented traffic from rear ending me.i had to have the vehicle towed awaiting diagnosis which i am being told by the deal will probably be related to the hybrid battery cooling system.this is a critical safety issues that must be addressed.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the "stop for safety/high motor - cooling" warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred on more than one occasion. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the coolant pump was faulty. A dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 173,300.

I experienced a catastrophic engine failure while highway driving @ 70 mph.there was a loud sound from the engine, then a "stop the vehicle safely now" warning, and the engine stopped functioning.

About oct 15, 2010 i noticed when i put on my right hand turn signal the high beam would turn on.it did it consistently for a couple of months then stopped.then stopped.then started again.seems like the trigger is when i do use the high beam is the trigger that starts the process of starting the cycle for a couple of months.it is a danger to oncoming cars as well as to cars that are in front of you blinding both.

The headlamp switch (stalk) on the steering wheel may be faulty. I have on numerous occasions activated the high beams without selecting that position (at least 1-2 times per day). This seems to happen more when i use the turn signal. I have accidentally blinded many people with my high beams and i'm certain it's a safety issue.

The hybrid electronics system overheated, the dashboard lights went on and the alert system said to "stop car slowly" and then"check emissions system". The car slowed down and lost almost all power. After turning it on again, the car had no power and could not accelerate. It was like this for several minutes (this has happened before but the car seemed normal after the initial stall). The car was towed to a nearby mechanic's garage and they told us the problem was with the mecs pump which was causing the hybrid system to overheat.this seems remarkably similar to recall #14s19 and i don't understand how my car is not covered under it.i also chatted with a rep from ford who couldn't tell me why my car wasn't covered. While i understand that recalls are vin specific i believe there is an error on ford's end. The rep told me my vehicle was built on july 29, 2005 and the recall includes vehicles manufactured from 2005 to june 20, 2008. She said she couldn't find an exact date for the start of the "build date" range, but she thought it included all of 2005. So i said "shouldn't mine be covered?" similarly, the 14s19 recall notice states: "model year 2005-2008 ford escape hybrid electric vehicles manufactured october 13, 2003, to june 20, 2008".i bought the car in late 2015, after the initial recall date was issued and the dealer stated that there were no outstanding recall matters with the vehicle. However, the car only had 60,000 miles on it and was lightly used so i wonder if the previous owner was evenaware of the mecs issues. Thank you for your time. I am currently facing $1,300 in repair costs and this looks exactly like the recall problems mentioned in 14s19. I hope someone at nhtsa can help because i think ford should reimburse me for the damages. Thanks again.please contact me at [xxx] if you have any questions.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I am sitting on i-95 in connecticut and almost got into an accident.my truck just stopped. The red triangle with the explanation point came on and the car flashed "stop safely". All systems are normal. This has happened 3 times this trip and i'll be lucky to get home alive.

Vehicle stalled during acceleratation. Then went idle and went into safety mode in traffic. Problem is the throttle body consumer satisfaction alert # 13no3codes p2135,p2110,p2111

The brake system is very irritating because my abs and brake light are on at weird times and to fix they said it would cost me $4500. That's ridiculous i can't afford something like that. It also just started spitting gas out at me when i go to fill it up. Did it to me twice the other day and i have no idea what the reasoning was for that never had happen before. Then when i go to drove off sometimes the vehicle likes to make a pop noise once or twice not sure what that's all about. These cars are have more problems then they are worth.

The wheel speed sensor ring, also known as the tone ring, can split or crack while driving, causing loss of abs and 4 wheel drive.this is what happened to me. It's a known defect, is frightening when it happens, and should have long ago result in a recall.

Traveling home on the interstate at about 70mph and the motor shut off, giving me a 'stop safely now' with the red triangle light on. I stopped, waited a few minutes on the roadside and it started again. Headed home again, when about a mile and it happened again. Waited a few minutes by the road, then took off. This time i turned off the a/c and made a few miles to the house.

The brake system is very irritating because my abs and brake light are on at weird times and to fix they said it would cost me $4500. That's ridiculous i can't afford something like that. The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. While the vehicle was placed in the park position, it rolled forward. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v606000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Completely lost power steering with no warning while making a right turn into oncoming traffic. Left me in a dangerous situation without power to turn the vehicle in time to avoid the incoming traffic.

Stop safely now & service soon - wrench.

Car stalled out while driving.it happened 3 more times before i took it to the ford dealer who told me it was the throttle body.

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph. The vehicle shut down without any warning. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure reoccured again. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer for diagnose or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate mileage was 156,325.lj

When you engage the vehicle into drive, after few minutes the service wrench light goes on.the issue is that my suv ford escape is stalling while in motion or suddenly surging forward when accelerating from a stop.after having my dealership and outside mechanic review the issue.the root cause was identified to be faulty throttle body.apparently a common issue among ford escapes.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the rear end differential began to disintegrate from the inside out. She noticed this after hearing loud screeching noises while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was then inspected by a dealer who stated that the rear differential needed to be replaced or the vehicle was no longer drivable. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was also contacted and they advised her that she was no longer under warranty and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 30,441. The consumer stated the vehicle has since been repaired..

My 2006 escape hybrid suddenly lost braking power, occurring as i attempted to slow to exit off of i-95 to my home. The abs and warning light came on, at the same time, the brake pedal went to the floor board but there was just enough to get slowed down pushing as hard as i could and luckily the off ramp was up hill. I was going to pull off and get towed but decided being on the side of i-95 was too scary and instead drove ,despite the failure. I went 5mph and made it home . The next morning the brakes were miraculously working fine. Now i am too scared to drive the car and have read of others that spent tons of money without the car being fixed.

Rehan brake failure no warning wont stop or go away truck is not able to move no brakes at all many complaints about other 2006 failure and ford says they know about it but wont do anything for consumers bought a 2008and same thing is now happening with 08 hybrid

My abs and brake light came on and brakes became manual. When i checked on the codes (c1478, c1313 & c1480) i found that there are quite a few complaints of this exact problem, that the repair cost is ridiculous at approximately $5000. And that this is a very common problem with this 2006 ford escape hybrids.this is a safety hazard and should be a recall by ford!

Approximately 8-9 months ago i felt like the master cylinder was going out in my 2006 escape hybrid. I took it to a local shop that i trust a few days later and the mechanic drove it and thought it was ok so no repairs were performed. However, at this time he did not perform any sort of a computer diagnostic test because he felt the brakes seemed ok.fast forward to approx. 8/17/14, i pulled into my garage and before i turned my car off both the led message board indicated an issue needed attention (can't recall exact wording) and the red brake warning light on the dash lit up indicating the brake unit needed service.i took the vehicle back to the same mechanic and he performed a computer diagnostic test. He got back to following:"brake system diagnostics code: c1471 high pressure accumulator volume consumption plausibility failure.recommend replacement of the master cylinder first and recheck system.if code returns the hydraulic control unit will need to be replaced."the cost to perform this work is nearly $8,900.00 and almost all of that charge is for replacing these two defective parts, not labor. The cost to replace the failing hydraulics exceeds the blue book value of the vehicle also.this vehicle has only 91,589 miles on it and the whole hydraulic system is failing. I checked out various internet boards and it looks like my problem is the same exact problem scores of others have experienced, and many of them right at the same approx. Mileage interval.

Intermittent abs and brake warning light with almost complete loss of braking.

After starting the vehicle,(vehicle is stationary)the abs lights, and brake lights turn on. The brakes go into a safety mode, and don't work unless you push the pedal all the way down to the floor. I can almost roll down my driveway with the brake pedal pushed down all of the way. My driveway has a slight angle to is. Not much of an angle though. The vehicle is not safe to drive on the highway if you don't know if the brakes are going to go out or not.

I was driving the vehicle and the red brake light came on with a message to check brake system. For the rest of the trip the brakes worked ok. I reached my destination and turned the car off. When i came back out and started the vehicle both the red brake light and the yellow abs light were on. When i was pulling out of the parking lot i pressed the brake pedal but the car did not stop. I had to use the hand brake to stop the car from going into the oncoming traffic. I backed up and parked the car and called a tow truck. When the car was loaded onto the tow, about an hour later, the brakes worked again.

Tone ring failure on abs system. Brake fade until computer noted sensor failure and indicates abs failure light. Tone ring was broken $12.45 part labor $226.00 i am told it is a very common problem with the escapes where a plastic ring comes unglued and causes the abs to engage when it is not necessary.

While the car was in motion, the yellow abs and the red brake failure warning lamps lit up, and the alarm sounded. I was unable to control my vehicle as the pedal became stiff. Brakes went into manual mode. This luckily happened in the evening, or else i could have hit another vehicle or a pedestrian. The car jerked as i pulled up the emergency brake, and i hurt my neck.i researched this issue at home and found that it is a known issue that many have had problems with, which have not yet been addressed as a vehicle safety complaint. Please see this experience here & read the comments from others: http://www.greenhybrid.com/forums/f26/brakes-broke-bank-24731/.there is a technical service bulletin, tsb 05-8-5 released by ford that addresses this issue, and it has still not become a recall. I desperately need to use this vehicle, i bought it as a safe & green hybrid suv that would be practical, even brought it into the dealership to check for recalls, and now i find out that this purchase may be a threat to my life, and i am now financially unable to afford repairs after this large car expense. This is happening to thousands of people with escape hybrids of many different years, please see this man's youtube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfwzpzn2yg8more sites to reference: http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/escapehybrid/brake-master-cylinder-problems.phphttp://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/5850/ford/escape-hybrid/ford-escape-hybrid-brake-problems.

As i was approaching an intersection and red light, my brakes suddenly stopped working.i literally had to stand on the brake and it finally stopped moving.i continued to drive home at less than 10 mph and had to let off the gas in order to slow the vehicle down to attempt to use the brakes and car would shake when brake was applied.took to mechanic who checked the code and it was the travel sensor.

Abs light comes on. Brakes are loose. Happened now more than 10 times. We just pull over the side and turn off the car. Start again and brakes work fine for a while. This is an scary car. I use to drive my kids around.

At approximately 1:30pm, i was driving in sacramento making a right turn merging into traffic with my foot on the brake pedal when all of a sudden the petal dropped to the floor with no hydraulic pressure in it.the abs light came on, the brake light came on, and the panel said "service brake system."i had my son in the car with me and i pulled over to the side of the road pressing extremely hard on the brake pedal to get it to stop.i immediately went to pep boys around the corner without brakes (except when i pressed hard on the brake pedal all the way to the floor).pep boys looked at it and said it might be the master cylinder but they were not willing to sell me one until i had a ford dealer look at the vehicle.when i turned the car back on, the abs light was off, the brake warning light was off, and the service warning was off.ford dealer looked at the vehicle, drove it around for 22 miles and nothing out of the ordinary happened.i advised ford that pep boys had advised me there was a technical service bulletin (tsb) on intermittent brake loss for 2006 ford escape hybrid.the ford representative immediately snapped back at me "that doesn't mean its covered under warranty?" i then said, i care about my safety and want to know why out of the blue my brakes failed.when i went back to see if they found a problem, they stated everything was in normal working order and there were no codes in the system to indicate brake failure.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid.the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake warning light illuminated.the contact also stated when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle would not instantly stop and traveled abnormally to the floorboard.the failure recurred on multiple occasions.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hydraulics code was present as a result the master cylinder needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 105,000. The vin was not available.

Abs break light came on and the car failed to stop. Was driving on the road in a small town and was stopping to turn on to a road. The problem had also happen when someone has stopped suddenly in front of me and i needed to break suddenly. Had break fluid changed at ford dealership and did not fix the problem.when you need to stop suddenly and hit the breaks hard, the pedal hard it stiffens up and will not stop the car. If you turn off the car and wait a few minutes and turn it back on, it seems to reset it until you hit the breaks hard again.

Car had been parked at airport parking lot for a month.when retrieving it upon return brakes failed, abs and brake service warning light came on, and peddle went to the floor. We parked the car in the lot, rented a car to get home.next morning we arranged aaa to tow vehicle. When tow operator came the vehicle braking systems was perfectly fine. We chose to pay him and drive the car home. Took vehicle to dealer and explained the issue. They never acknowledged any understanding of this problem.they replaced rear brake pads and rotors because there was also loud brake noise.now one year later, july 27 2015, [97000+ miles] slowing for a right turn on a rural highway and the brake system failed again. With no warning the peddle went to the floor.with a concerted effort i was able to slow the vehicle and make the turn without incident. The abs light and service brake warning lights were lit. Condition persisted as we continued a few miles to the shopping plaza. After shopping we decided to return directly home, but when car was started the fault had cleared and the brakes functioned normally. We have just spent the morning searching internet and find this is an issue ford knows about and is denying to acknowledge. And apparently it is very expensive to resolve with the need to replace the hcu. We now understand what the problem is but are among the many who feel this is certainly a serious enough safety issue ford should participate in its resolve for owners with defective brake systems.our experience so far is, that though there is some ability to brake it is not anywhere equal to the 'normal' braking capacity and that is dangerous.and the intermittent and random occurrence is troubling to say the least.we will contact the dealer today to get the reaction to our concern.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph and depressing the brake pedal the abs warning light illuminated and the warning chime was also activated. The brakes also failed to respond when they were applied. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal until they engaged. The failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated the master cylinder booster assembly was leaking brake fluid and not engaging. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

I was driving along the highway coming up to an intersection, preparing to stop at a red light in the left turn lane, when my breaks completely failed. The break pedal was stiff, and would not budge. We hit two cars that were sitting at the intersection, totaling my ford escape as well as one of the other cars. In the past, the "service breaks" light would go on occasionally in the summer during the hot months, giving the car slightly less break pressure. This was never a serious problem, and has always corrected itself anytime i turned the car off for a while. In addition, whenever having the breaks checked, they could never detect a problem. In addition, my car had routine inspections done during an oil change a month before the accident, and a full service inspection before this. This car is unsafe for the road, and the accident was out of my control. After research, i found many 2004-2006 hybrid ford escape owners to have the exact same complaints and experiences.

Driving approximately 35 mph, suddenly received warning message about the brakes and heard warning beeps. Immediately i lost all braking ability (brake pedal felt soft and give very little resistance) but still had acceleration and steering control of the vehicle. I navigated the car to a side street and was able to slow the car down to an eventual stop on the shoulder using the emergency/parking brake.i turned the car off for approximately 5 minutes.tested the pressure on the brake pedal and it seemed normal.i then started the car up and moved a little bit forward and depressed the brake pedal and everything worked fine.no warning messages or sounds.the car operated normally as i drove it back to a safe spot.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the abs warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact tried to apply the brakes but to no avail. The contact had to use the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was shut off and restarted however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 80,000. The vin was unavailable.

Nearly impossible to brake, major safety issue with the hydrolic regenerative breaking system and abs. While driving the vehicle on city streets, speeds between 0-40mph the brake pedal will become very hard and impossible to press with loss of braking. When this happens i am forced to rapidly release the brake pedal and brake again (pumping) the brakes in order to stop. On several occasions this pumping of the brakes has cause the break pedal to go from hard/impossible to push to completely soft hitting the floor with no braking capabilities. On these occasions i am forced to pull of the road quickly, downshift to low gear and even use the emergency brake to avoid causing an accident. Only about 60% of the time when this event occurred does the abs light, brake light and service brake system warning indicators illuminate or display. When this occurres i am usually forced to turn the engin off, remove the key, let the system purge (makes noise) after the vehicle sits for a couple minutes and then restart the vehicle in order to keep driving and fix the issue. Sometimes it fixes to issue for the rest of the driving time while others only work temporarily and the issue returns almost immediately. I feel that this braking issue is a huge safety concern for my family and i and our piece of mind in the safety of this vehicle is not good. As an additional note this brake issue only became evident after we had another recall issue fixed on this vehicle for stalling. Before that fix we never had any braking issues.

Part 1:i purchased this used vehicle from what is a well known dealership in my area of living on 3/21/13.as you can see from the date the first brake failure happened, it was 4 days after i drove the vehicle off the lot. The brake and abs lights illuminated on the dash on my way home from work. Thankfully, besides being scared to death, i was ok. The dealership towed my vehicle and stated they "miraculously" (my sarcasm) had brakes when driving it from the tow truck into the shop.they had great difficulties figuring out what was wrong and had even talked with the ford company and came up with the hydraulics system being the issue which was then replaced by the dealership. At a later time with further occurrence, i was informed the modular had also at the first brake failure been replaced, although there is no proof of that on my service record (another issue). After replacing these items, the dealership continued to have difficulties trying to get the brake and abs lights from illuminating on the dash and apparently had to unhook some vacuum pump to correct issue. Following this i was assured everything was fixed.second brake failure was on 5/26/13. Thankfully,i was just coming to a stop at my residence when this occurred! again vehicle was towed. An error code was found and reset and assured everything was ok. This is also when i did some digging and requested the previous owners name. To my amazement, this had happened once to the previous owner.....funny, the dealership and ford were involved and stated it could have been a modular or a "fluke" and nothingwas done at that time and the vehicle was traded shortly after. Hmmm..i inherited a problem.

I was approaching a t-intersection and attempted to make a stop at the stop sign, but the brake pedal resisted my foot pressure and i could not get the vehicle to slow down. I managed to maneuver through the intersection without further incident and spotted a safe place to pull over to gather my thoughts. The brake pedal again failed to work when i attempted to pull over, but i used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle.. Only, this time the brake pedal went all the way to the flood, with no braking effect to the vehicle. This time, unlike the first, 2 brake warning indicators (abs & brakes!) illuminated on the driver's console.i turned off the vehicle and restarted it, and the indicators had disappeared and the brake pedal had normal resistance to my foot pressure and the brakes worked normally.i called a local ford dealership and they described the problem as a 'glitch', and said it was most likely a sensor or some other computer malfunction, but that no work done to correct the problem would be covered since the vehicle is out of warranty. Wanting more information, i located a video on youtube.com that shows another vehicle with the same problem. The video is searchable and is found under the title of 'ford escape hybrid brake problem'.i searched for any recalls for this same vehicle's vin, but found none listed. What can be done on behalf of the consumer, especially if those video cost estimations are correct?

Coming to a stop to leave parking lot, i felt the brakes shutter as if was sliding. The skiing light came on for about 2 seconds, vehicle motion stopped, then the abs light came on and got a message on dash the get bake system serviced. Abs light in on all the time and the abs system does not work. Will be taking to repair shop today for evaluation and repair. This seems to be a known issue with this vehicle model. Recall????

While driving my 2006 ford hybrid escape on the highway, the abs and parking brake lights came on as well as a warning alarm sounded. The brakes went completely out, and i had to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor before i could slow down. This is the second time in about 3 months that this event has occurred.

Vehicle was failing to stop when brakes applied. Codes came back from dealer that hcu and master cylinder needs to be replaced $7100 which is more than the vehicle is worth. Other year modes have been recalled and should be included in the recall

Brakes stopped working, dash lit up like a christmas tree.

Brakes suddenly fail. When you are driving down the road the power assist to the brake fails unexpectantly and you must use extreme force to bring the car to a stop. This is intermittent and they will work again after the car is shut off. I have found many complaints of this on line. It is only a matter of time before someone is in a very serious accident. Not only did i find many complaints but these were across several years of production.

Driving up to a stop sign when i felt like i had no brake control to stop. I had to depress the pedal as far as i could and prayed that i would stop before the busy intersection. When i came to a stop, the service brake system code came on and chimed. The abs light was lit, along with brake warning. Luckily we were only a few blocks from the house, that we were able to carefully make it back home. After taking the vehicle in for a brake system warning before where they diagnosed a faulty wiring harness and replaced at my expense. Now that we were able to get the vehicle to the dealership they have stated that the hydraulic control unit was a problem and possibility of the master cylinder. All this at a cost of $4500+ parts and labor. After just finishing paying off the vehicle loan we own a vehicle that doesn't stop. Had i crashed the vehicle i'd only be out my deductible. Thanks ford! i regret purchasing this vehicle after hearing of other owners experiencing the same issue, with no help from ford on repairing a device thats meant to provide safety.

I was driving at a normal speed, approximately 35 mph, on a city street. As traffic slowed i began to depress the brake pedal and suddenly i got several alerts on my instrument cluster(brake, abs, and regen disconnect). At the same time i lost all or most of my braking power. I was forced to use the park brake to stop the vehicle, and barely avoided a collision with another vehicle.this was a very frightening experience. After the vehicle sat for a short time, with the engine off, the system apparently reset itself and when i re-started the engine all functions were operational once again, and all the alerts were gone. However, this period was brief. Thinking this might be a system glitch, i cautiously drove the vehicle home. The next day this failure returned after about 20 miles of driving. At this time i realized that there is a serious flaw in the hybrid braking system of this model year ford escape, and possibly other model years. I contacted a local ford dealership and i was shocked when they informed me there are no recalls on this vehicle for this particular failure. As a mechanic i find this ridiculous. After a brief search online i found many hybrid ford escape owner's that had the same problem as i did. At this point i deemed my vehicle unsafe to drive and decided the best thing to do was to report this failure to the nhtsa with the hopes that the ford motor company will do something about this failure before somebody gets seriously injured or killed. My opinion is the problem is in the hydraulic control unit. (hcu). This is a complex electronic brake control unit that is specific to the ford escape hybrid. For the record my vehicle had about 146,000 miles on it when this happened.

Abs brake system

Total brake failure while driving.

Multiple continued instances of complete brake failure. Since the initial occurrence, already documented on this site (odi id number : 10349431), it randomly recurred at least 10 times over the past 2 years, including 3 times in a single trip in june 2012 and two additional times in july 2012. The brake failures typically occurred during hot weather when running the air conditioner, but not always. Every time we thought we'd "figured out" a pattern to the failures, the brakes would go out at a different time than they ever had before -- at a higher speed, or while slowing for a stop light going uphill versus when we were trying to slow to a stop at the base of a steep hill with a marina in front of us. We finally sold the car fearing for the safety of our family, others on the roadways, and our finances. No wonder ford quit making these vehicles...

The wheel speed sensor ring, also known as the tone ring, can split or crack while driving, causing loss of abs and 4 wheel drive.this is what happened to me. It's a known defect, is frightening when it happens, and should have long ago result in a recall.

Brake light intermittently comes on. Abs light also comes on - loss of braking ability at highway speeds when abs comes on.

The first incident was the abs light illuminating and a chugging sound in 2013.... Took it to the local ford dealer and the tone ring on front driver side was broken and replaced for $350.00.on 12 january 2015, both the abs light and brake failure light illuminated, along with message to service brakes. Took to local ford dealer where i was informed the problem was failure of the abs hydraulic system --- approx. $4,000.00 to replace. I don't have $4,000.00 plus available to invest in this 2006 escape hybrid.... This is a known problem, has been repeatedly reported, and is a vehicle safety issue that ford appears to be dismissive --- much like gm and the acceleration issue.fortunately, there have been no reported deaths due to this issue..... Yet. We need to get a recall before that happens.

The brakes on our 2006 ford escape hybrid began grinding around february 2016.we had the pads and rotors replaced and it braked better, but within a mile after leaving the ford service center the brake light came on and shortly after - while moving - the brake pedal went to the floor and there were no brakes.we had to coast to a stop and pull over.when the car is stopped and turned on and off, you can sometimes get the brakes to work for less than a mile.its so unsafe, we had it towed to service centers for estimates. Two ford dealers and one other service place investigated the problem thoroughly and all came back saying the hydraulic control unit must be replaced at an average cost of $4,500.otherwise, we like the car, but this one repair is greater than the blue book value and is very dangerous.

I was driving my daughter to school and my brake light and warning sound came on when i tried to brake for a red light. I had to push really hard to get the car to stop and we were almost hit by oncoming traffic.

The vehicle was and has been driving normally until standard braking situation of coming to a stoplight. As the brakes were applied the abs and brake light came on and all power assist to the brakes was gone. I had to crush the brake pedal to get any braking at all. Luckily i'm strong enough to manually bring the vehicle to a stop. This was the first time (december 2013) since i've had the vehicle that this happened. It's now april 2014 and the same issue has returned (twice in a week). A very dangerous potential situation. However, after braking to a stop the vehicle can be turned off and back on to correct the situation (abs and brake light turn off) and the brakes return to normal. I purchased this vehicle at auction from a fleet of vehicles.the sticker did say brake problems, however, after driving it i found only normal braking and attributed the "brake problem" to worn brake pads etc. I can only say that the "brake problem" they mentioned on the sticker must have been the same situation i've run into - so the fleet personnel must have been experiencing the same thing. This situation seems to me to be a much deeper design flaw and after researching online and seeing so many other similar complaints -this obvious flaw should be exposed and corrected on a vehicle recall basis before there are fatalities. It seems to me only a matter of time......

I was about to exit the parking lot of a grocery store when the brakes went into a non-power brake mode. I was rolling to the stop sign. I probably wasn't even going 15 mph. As nothing happened when i touched the brakes, i hammered them and came to a sharp jerking halt. It was a little frightening as oncoming traffic was going 45-50 mph. Then the abs and brake system lighting came on. If i had not known how non-power brakes felt, i probably would have slid into oncoming traffic. This could have been fatal. I see online a lot of complaints with this same issue with the braking systems of the escape hybrids. I am not sure why it is not covered on the 100,000 mile/ 8 yr warranty and also, why there has been no recall. I see there is a recall for windshield wipers. I seriously think this is a little more of a safety issue.

Driving about 35 and the abs light and anti skid light came on, when at slow speed the car started doing a chugging and then it went on battery.it did this all the way home.i am luckier than most my man is a mechanic an put it on the computer and it stated where the problem was.i also looked online and see hundreds of people complaining about the tone ring.in5 months my 16 year old will be driving this car full time and now i am real concerned for her safety.some one recall this tone ring, people are loosing brakes!!!!

Bought the car from novato ford, now journey ford in 2008.a few days ago i had to brake hard, but as far as i could tell the antilock braking system (abs) did not engage. The brakes worked and the car stopped/. The next day i noticed that as soon as i started the car the abs and brake light were on. I took it to a local repair shop where they ran a diagnostic scan, which returned code c1475.the non-ford repair shop said they would need to follow ford's technical service bulletin and the repair would cost 3500 in parts and another $700 in labor.i am writing because it seems highly unusual to me and the service personnel who have reviewed this matter for this to occur.this is ford's service bulletinhttp://ww.w.autoelectricpro.com/purchased/images/076000/074720.pdf.

We were driving the car on the freeway and suddenly the abs light comes on and the brakes did not work.they were very hard to depress and slowed the car very slowly.had this happened when we needed to stop, there would have been an accident, without a doubt.this happened about 3 weeks ago and my mechanic reset the computer and all was good for about 2 weeks.then the exact same thing happened again.my mechanic, who i trust impeccably was baffled by the whole thing and asked that we send the car to a dealership.i've never seen that before.the dealer (first dealer) is telling us we need to replace the master cylinder, then maybe the hydraulic control unit, which thankfully, is still under warranty in ca because it's a hybrid part.however, if it is the hcu, we still have to pay for the master cylinder, even though i suspect it's the hcu from what i've read online.i then called the dealer who inspected the car when we initially bought it (second dealer from here on out).the first dealer is quoting us $2800 to fix the master, while the other is quoting around $2000.the second one is also saying he might be able to diagnose the hcu and just change it out where dealer 1 is saying ford says in order to change out the hcu, the master has to be changed first.the second dealer is saying this simply isn't true.we just bought the car from a private seller and frankly, i'm scared to drive it.i'm reading a lot of problems with this part of the car and it looks to me like ford is having some serious, life threatening issues with this component...as well as giving people massive bills to fix their car.the only thing that should cost $4000 on a car should be the engine.not the brake system.this is insanity.

Basically, this is happening at least 1 x / day. I am taking back to the dealership tomorrow, but ford really needs to recall this vehicle and get this fixed. I was driving on a regular road and my abs brake light and service engine light came on with the warning bell. My hydraulic brakes failed again! i put my flashers on, pulled to the side of the road, i depressed the brake all the way the floor and rolled to a stop with throbbing emergency brakes still working. Then i turn off my vehicle after putting it into park, take out the key, wait a few seconds, then start the car again. It works again temporarily. Now, i know how to deal with it and i plan for it since it happens all the time, but if i am ever in a situation where i cannot control my environment, i cannot guarantee someone will not be harmed or killed as a result of this failure in my vehicle. Please! help us do something about this. This needs to be fixed!!!

When applying brakes pedal has to be pressed all the way to the floor and the car continues to move forward almost causing an accident. At this point the abs light comes on. Updated 9/12/18

Driving along in traffic when all of a sudden the brakes wouldn't function at all, even with two feet pressing on the brake pedal with all of my strength.the brake loss seems to occur about once a month, and now occurred twice in august.after shutting the vehicle off and restarting it, the brakes work again.

Driving down the road i had a complete loss of normal and effective braking.the abs and brake service lights both came on in the dash and in order to bring the vehicle to a stop it, it became necessary to depress the brake pedal as hard as possible all the way to the floor.whenever attempting to brake the vehicle would lunge to the right, clearly indicating that (at least) the front brake on the passenger side was completely useless/ineffective.needless to say, this was a very traumatic experience as it took all of my skill as a motorist to avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of me and to protect my wife and two children who were also with me.after getting online and reading countless forums and articles, i discovered that it is a disturbingly common problem with ford escape hybrids to lose effective braking by way of a faulty hydraulic control unit: a part to which i later found out costs an approximate $4,200 to acquire.after bringing the vehicle to a local ford dealer, i discovered that this was, in fact, the exact problem with my escape.this vehicle, apart from the faulty hcu, is in incredibly good shape and has no other mechanical issues.it is an absolute atrocity that ford has not issued a recall for this part.it has been made very clear that they have no intention of recalling this dangerous unit until, inevitably, fatalities occur.

Vehicle dash brake light came on intermittently.took vehicle to dealer for diagnostic.dealer advised master cylinder needed to be replaced for $2500.in adition, hydraulic control unit might also need to be replaced, for an additional $4000, but the dealer could not tell until the master cylinder was replaced.at this time, there are no brakes and the vehicle can only be stopped using the hand brake and is not safe to drive.

Feel for a moment like you are driving in ice(slippery). Then service brake system appear with the triangle with the admiration sign inside.

The check brake system message appears in message system on 2006 ford escape hybrid, with the accompanying brake warning symbol light coming on.the brake pedal seems to lose some pressure in the pedal and goes further to the floor.the brake fluid reservoir is full, so the brake fluid is not low.this has happened on and off now for the last few days.i had a brake job done on the rear brakes 2 months ago, and the dealership says the front brakes are fine.they recommend replacing the master cylinder for 1300 dollars, and then state that it might not solve the problem and they would then have to replace a control module for about 4500 to 5000 dollars.i noticed online that a lot of people seem to be having this same problem with the ford escape hybrid from 2005 to 2006, and they are incurring the same costly repair.some of them complained about losing power to the braking system.

I bought a 10 year old 2006 escape hybrid with 73,000 miles. After 4,000 mile the abs light would go on and the brakes would go into manual mode and the warning lights read check brake system and regen disenaged. After restarting the car the problem would go away. This would happen when the vehicle was moving at various speeds. The car still did stop with more brake pressure. We brought it to the dealer and they reset the error codes and gave us back the car. They stated this was per the ford corporate standards and they could not find anything wrong with the brakes despite the error codes. About 6 weeks later the problem happened again and kept happening. However, this time the brake pedal is soft and we are not confident it will stop every time as it did before. We brought it back to the dealer. Now ford has diagnosed an issue with the master cylinder, hcu and abs computer all need to be replaced for $8100 (i only paid $7500 for the car). Since ford are the only ones that can calibrate the abs computer we cannot get the repair cheaper elsewhere. Ford will do nothing because it is out of the warranty period.

In 12/2006, my ford escape hybrid began malfunctioning.i would get a "service brake system" message and the emergency brake light would appear.i brought it in to champion ford in boulder, co 3 times.the first 2 times they refused to acknowledge the problem.the 3rd time they acknowledged the problem after i gave them information from the internet and the tsb.with cooperation from ford service they performed a ground/harness replacement.champion ford then went out of business.over the next 4 years, i brought my car to sill-terhar ford in broomfield, co for the same issue and additional 6 times, where they performed the same service (replace ground/harness).now, they are saying the fix requires a new abs module ($4,000).through my own research, i have discovered that this problem is rampant with other owners losing their brakes.i never lost my brakes, but after discussing this with my current ford service rep, he suggests that my problem could result in "improper" braking behavior, which means i've been driving an unsafe vehicle for 4 years based on ford's service recommendation for my problem.ford is refusing to accept responsibility for my problem, even though when my problem started, i was under warranty.

Standard day driving. Get in the vehicle start as normal. Drive 25 feet down the road, small hesitation, resistance to go forward for a moment. Abs light illuminates, warning beep occurs. Vehicle drives odd, brakes are weaker than normal. Service abs system illuminates on center panel. Moments later, service 4x4 system illuminates as another small hesitation resistance to roll occurs. Vehicle drives 'ok' but different. Drove it home safely from that moment.

Electric controlled brakes, & electric controlled power assist steering. Seeing all that is happening to toyota i thought i had best report my incidents to someone so that a file could be started and history could be made of defective issues with ford escape hybrid mine is a 2006 model and everything started just after the warranty expired. I now have 73,000 miles on the vehicle and it is always the most expensive part of the system that seems to fail according to ford service writers. I iod some investigation when my brakes failed and it was just a wheel sensor that malfunctioned but it caused a major brake system failure and i was told it was the control module after i checked the cost i told ford to take the fuel-saving vehicle and put it in a junkyard and then i was told by another service tech that the sensor just needed to be reset an that would be just a little over $300 so i had it serviced and now after a flat tire i am told that my power assist control unit needs replacing the owners manual said that after you use a donut tire that this could happen and again i am told it is the most expensive part to replace. My mechanic told me that ford has the only machines that could reset these sensors, so pardon my laymans terms but ford has you by the '!@#$%'.since they control the situation. I do however believe that outside electrical fields have an effect on these electrical sensors. It could be as little as a pavement sensor that controls signal lights to any other electrical field that damages these sensors that are not shielded. Thank you for reading my thoughts.

Brakes on my 2006 ford escape hybrid failed at highway speed and the abs and brake light came simultaneously.by pinning the brake to the floor i was able to slow the vehicle in the shoulder.turning the car off and back on "resolved" the issue and i was able to drive home.the problem happens randomly and without warning.i have placed a call to the dealer but have not heard back yet.looking on line it seems to be a common problem, yet no recall has been issued for this very dangerous situation.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the brake system failed with the illumination of the abs warning lamp. The contact also mentioned that he was able to stop the vehicle by using the emergency brake. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 07v156000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 64,000.

Brake failure resulting in the brake pedal going to the floor and a loss of hydraulic or power braking.vehicle does stop after a hard pressing of brake pedal.this is sometimes followed by a yellow abs light and red brake light warning.the problem is fixed by turning the car off and back on.i am not kidding.its like rebooting the computer.this started about 2 years ago.i reported it to ford who said they do not know anything about it at the dealer and national level.i took the car in for an oil change at the dealership and mentioned the intermittent brake failure.after the oil service, the problem went away for a year.i thought ford had secretly fixed it while they were changing the oil.then about a week ago the problem has returned and has happened 10 times. I think it is related to the car not having enough power because this happens while the ice (internal combustion engine) is off.perhaps it is related to running the air conditioning since it stopped after the summer and returned again.the ice turns off while braking at speeds below 40mph so that is probably related.

I was driving approximately 40 miles per hour, approaching a red light and busy intersection. I applied brakes (via pedal) as usual, but had no braking power / corresponding slowdown. I had to jam my foot to the floor and cover the emergency brake in case i needed it, and thankfully i was the first car at the light so there was no accident.the rest of the drive, it took at least 5 times longer/more distance to slow the vehicle to a stop than normal and at the same moment i lost braking power, a chime sounded & both the abs and brake(s) light on the dash lit up; message center read "service brakes soon". I just had the veh in for its 40k mile service 2 days ago & it had nothing wrong with it--brakes were all listed as top condition. Now i'm absolutely terrified to drive the vehicle, unsure when this condition will recur (the lights reset & and i checked today--the brakes are working again, for now.) when the condition occurs, braking is an odd slow pulsing, like a slowed down version of an emergency abs stop ("pumping the brakes" feeling.) i've never had brake problems until this incident. When i turned the car off and restarted it, the abs & brake lights cleared and, for now at least, the brakes *seem* to be working but i can't chance it. Getting it towed for service.

Ford escape hybrid 2006 abs and brake failure light come on, lose power braking. Must push very hard on brake petal to stop car, has happened approx. 8 times. After stopping car,i can usually turn key off and then restart car and problem is gone.

Red brake light and service brake system light a constant problem that has not been fixed. I have had this problem since may 2010 and it is now august 2010 and it is still not fixed. We own a 2006 ford escape hybrid. We have had new brakes, a new wire harness, some other tip replaced, and a sensor replaced. We have even had a ford engineer look at it. I have been concerned about having an accident because i have two small children. The vehiclenly has 58,000 miles and i believe that the problem is the abs module. But the abs module should not be going out at 58,000 miles.this problem has been very frustrating.

Abs light and brake light came on when i got into the car to go to work after driving it the previous day with no problems.brake pedal became soft and braking was not smooth and when brake pedal was pressed it made a squealing noise.dealer diagnosed it as a faulty abs module replacement cost of $3000.

Letter from senator dent on behalf of constituent regarding a 2006 ford escape hybrid (dot/i # 2010-2203) *tgwthe consumer stated a warning light illuminated to service the brake system.the consumer stated it cost $120 to diagnose the problem as a faulty hydraulic computer module and the cost to replace it would be $ 5,000.

A couple months ago, i took my escape hybrid to have the brakes checked out.needless to say, they checked it out and said everything was fine and i was on my way a couple of hours later.then yesterday, my abs and brake lights illuminated and then check brake system came on.after this occurred, my brakes go out and then i must come to a rolling stop on the side of the road while trying to avoid hitting anyone.it occurred 6 times at different speeds (20mph & 70mph)i then returned it to the dealership yesterday and asked them to look over it.today, i am told that i need a new abs system installed with the hydraulic/electric control units totally $7,400.of course, there is no warranty for this. I have been researching this issue online and have noticed several posting regarding a similar issue however still no recall.i would assume a factory defect regarding the brakes would be significant enough for a recall before someone gets killed.

I just bought a 2006 ford escape hybrid.the service break system light and message came on monday, the 2nd time i drove it, on the way to work.i stopped at a gas station but it turned off. Next morning, same thing so i checked fluids. It was off again the rest of that day.lit up again wednesday. I made it that evening to a service station before they closed (very rural area).the warnings were not on and he could not see anything obvious on preliminary inspection but said to bring in in the morning if the warning was back. Thursday it acted funny on my driveway.the next curve i found out why, no breaking power even with the extremely stiff and difficult pedal to the floor.i finally got it to a stop way past the crazy ride around the curve.i stopped to calm myself and decide if it was possible to get to town.i decided the e-brake seemed to stop it if i kept it very slow. So i proceeded to town-not to a ford dealer because of some very scary big hills, but instead to the service station who i trust.he was booked a week and a half and he didn't know if his computer had the hybrid programming to check it.so i had to tow it 63m to the dealer i got it from, thinking they would stand by it or it would be covered by the "drivetrain plus" service agreement i purchased to cover any scary priced repairs that crop up on older cars. It was sold as-is, and iowa has no lemon law apparently, the plan i purchased sounds like it won't cover it, and they offered me a measly 10% off the bill that is about half again what i paid for the car.i got to drive my new used car 4 1/2 times. All i can do is thank my lucky stars my kids weren't in the car, there wasn't a car near me, i wasn't coming down one of the steep and curvy river bluffs on my way to or from work, or any number of other scary scenarios that could have been.faliure of the brake system's hydraulic control unit hcu and master cylinder is extremely dangerous and a design flaw many have experienced.

The brakes fail on a regular basis while slowing down from speeds between 10 and 35 mph.it occurs as a sudden release of braking pressure while stepping on the brake pedal to slow down.at that time a momentary warning light comes on for several seconds and the system appears to go into a fail-safe mode that allows manual operation of the brakes.this causes a large increase in braking distance and i consider it very dangerous.this failure seems to be related to the hybrid braking system and may be common to other hybrid vehicles.after stopping the warning light goes away and the brakes will again function normally.the failure does not occur continuously but it does occur almost every day that it is driven.the car has been in a repair shop numerous times with many part replaced but the problem continues to evade our fleet mechanics.this is an inherent problem with this vehicle and commonly known where there are large fleets of hybrid vehicles.my co-worker drives the same type of escape hybrid and he has the same failure.please investigate with ford and/or toyota.a similar problem has been seen with toyota prius in out fleet. Consumer stated at some period around 2014-15 the car was sent to the fleet dept again for braking problems and there was some breakthrough with repairs. Vehicle was transferred to different nycdep driver for a couple of years. Vin number not available but could inquire with consumer's transportation section. Updated 6/11/18

Brake system on 2006 ford hybrid escape.replaced brakes at reputable shop near home 11/17/09 as abs light was on and 55,000 miles on car.shop informed me abs light still on so they put car on computer and found it tobe the sensor on thebrake axle.they unfortunately could not help me as ford does not allow access to necessary components to fix system until car is 5 yrs.old and was told they tried to put a new static ring on and it might work.if light comes on again take to dealer.2 wks later abs light on as well as red brake light so took car to willowbrook ford dealer.they informed me the part to replace is $4300 without labor.this seems criminal for a part to cost that much as the car is only a 2006.i haven't even finished paying for the car.they told me i should of gotten the extended warranty and i told them they should make a better product.i expect a new car to last longer than 3 yrs.as it stands today they are trying to disconnect the abs system but i am not sure of the safety of the car.if they cannotdo that i will be forced to pay the price for this outrageous part.are there any other complaints about the safety of the 2006 ford escape hybrid?

I was driving in town, doing nothing out of the ordinary when the vehicle suffered complete abs brake system failure.i am now afraid to drive it.

2006 ford escape.consumer writes in regards to brake failure.consumer sent additional correspondence.the consumer stated the service brake system was a sporadic issue for a very long time. When the error message displayed, there was no pressure on the brake pedal, the power brakes failed, and in order to get the brakes to work at all, he had to press the pedal to the floor. The consumer expererienced a loss of power, the inside lights dimmed and the radio cut out. It was determined the battery needed to be replaced. Four months later, the sporadic brake system message illuminated. The dealer was unable to find a problem. Updated 08/24/15

*this is the second time that i have had a complete "brake failure" while driving my 2006 ford escape hybrid in traffic.this last time, i was driving on a freeway in bedford, texas and observed that traffic in the distance was stopping for construction.i applied my brakes but the peddle went to the floor.i had to exit the roadway onto the shoulder to avoid other vehicles.i put my vehicle in low gear from drive and applied my emerengy brake to stop my car.this is the "second" time i have had to take evasive action to avoid a collision with this bake problem.the "abs" light came on, the red brake light came on, and there was a computer message on the dash that read "service brake system".the first time that i experienced this same problem, i took my car into the dealership infor warranty repair.they advised that since the "code lights" were not on at this very moment, they were not able to diagnosis the problem.i was instructed to drive the escape until the "code lights" came back on and then bring it back for service!!!i complied to this request and bought the truck back in with the "code lights" on and the message reading.dealership worked on the vehicle for several days and the assist service manager drove it for a couple of days to check it out.the truck was returned to me with assurance that the "brake problem" was fixed.on july 9, 2011, i again had a "complete brake failure" with my truck(see above)on july 11, 2011, i took my escape hybrid back to the dealership and advised the assistant service manager, about the problem and what almost happened to me in traffic.i also showed him some of the other complaints about this same type of "brake failure" that has occurred on other ford escape hybrids.i have also called ford corporate to start a complaint! "does it take someone getting killed or injuried before something is done?"information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Braking system defects in ford escape hybrid 2006.the brakes fail, multiple trips to the dealership have not resolved the problem.the problem has gotten worse.

We own a 2006 ford escape hybrid 4wd.it has approx. 56,000 miles on it. The abs system failed on it in dec.the ford dealership in our area came back with an estimate of $6000 for repair secondary to a failure in the hydraulic control unit computer which controls the abs system.the part itself is $4300.we contacted ford whose response was that we should have bought the extended warranty.the dealer then contacted ford directly and ford agreed to take $1000 off the part cost which brought our repair down to $5000. Our non-ford mechanic was able to purchase a used part for $350, install it then take it to ford to reflash the computer components.ford came back to us after about a week and said they could not reflash the system because those components could only be programmed once on the initial build.we would be forced to purchase a new part from ford who then are also the only ones who possess the software to get the vehicles working again.i looked online and would be able to purchase the part for $2300 but could only have a ford dealer do the remainder of the work to get the computer system to work. Not sure if any ford dealership would allow us to bring in our own part we purchased off the internet if we were to purchase the cheaper part. In addition, it turns out ford is requiring parts dealers to return the used part to ford after purchasing the new part.ford then remanufactures the part (which they got for free from the consumer) and resells it as a new part for $4300 to some other unsuspecting hybrid owner.since our car is undriveable without the repair, it feels like ford is grossly taking advantage of the circumstances in situations such as these to unfairly gouge their customers.part # 7m6z2c286b.

Brake light comes on, service brake system message on dash displays, and abs light displays. Vehicles brakes fail and even when applying brake pedal completely vehicle does not stop completely without pumping brakes several times or using emergency brake. This happened a couple times last week (without warning lights) and took it to a local mechanic who inspected brakes and advised everything looks fine. Occurred again this evening with warning lights. Turned off vehicle & restarted and no lights and no problem braking. Researched online and there are numerous complaints of this in blogs, comments, etc.

Abs dash light flashes intermittently when braking , noise and clunking from front of vehicle as well as jerking . Abs tone ring failure after original part failure was corrected (replaced axles) on both front axles. Parts failed again on one axle.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact was traveling 50 mph when the abs warning light illuminated. The contact applied the brakes and there was a reduction of 80% braking power. The contact referenced technical service bulletin 10024326 (service brake: control unit module) and believed the failure to be the same. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 81,000. Updated 4/4/11 the repair shop installed a master cylinder. Updated 05/23/11

Catastrophic brake failure causing property damage and damage to car. We have taken our vehicle to a ford dealership twice in past year to find out why our brakes "catch" causing a momentary loss of braking. They told us both times that they couldn't find any problem and sent us out without an answer or fix. Then yesterday what we feared finally happened; during braking the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor and the brakes failed causing the vehicle to plow into a garage door. The car is back at the dealership now and even during drop-off they told us that this couldn't happen and that we were mistaken.

Catastropic failure of the brakes.

Power steering fail no dash codes e s p failed no power assist to turn the steering

Went to drive the vehicle one morning to find that the steering wheel was tight and hard to turn. Dash displayed wrench symbol indicating maintenance needed and narrative that power steering needs service.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while parked, the power steering failed. In addition, when the vehicle was being driven, the steering wheel seized and was difficult to turn. The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the steering wheel would seize and she would be unable to move it for a few seconds. After waiting a few seconds, the steering wheel would reset itself and perform as normal. The dealer made two attempts to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was aware of the failure. No repairs were performed. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 31,500. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape. While attempting a turn at speeds of 10 mph, the steering wheel locked as the power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact moved the vehicle from the roadway and shut off the engine. The vehicle was able to be restarted and resumed normal operation after two attempts. The power steering warning light was no longer illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed by the dealer. The failure and current mileages were 33,000.

Completely lost power steering with no warning while making a right turn into oncoming traffic. Left me in a dangerous situation without power to turn the vehicle in time to avoid the incoming traffic.

My 2006 ford escape hybrid sporatically looses power steering without any warning or clear indication of root cause.it has happened while making turns on resident streets and while traveling at high velocity on major highways.the manufacturer has replaced parts at a combined cost of ~3500 and the car continues to have the same problem.i believe ford does not understand the problem nor have they adequately evaluated the risk of the issue.iwould not even consider letting my wife drive this car due to the amout of force it takes to control the car once the steering goes out.

It is so obvious that ford has a major problem with their power steering on most of their hybrids and they should recall this problem. I totally lost steering that was very dangerous it was like being at the gym to try and steer my 06 feh.

My family and i were driving home when suddenly and without warning, the power steering went out. I have had no warnings leading up to this event. The wrench icon came on and an error message came on in the dash stating to have the power steering serviced. This was extremely dangerous as it just happened without warning as i was turning off of a major highway at a busy intersection. I have contacted ford and they are saying that this is not part of a recall. Everything i have read states that this is a common problem specifically in the hybrid vehicles ford manufactures. There have been recalls for the same issue for newer model vehicles, but not this one. It is my belief that this issue should be investigated due to the dangerous condition caused by the power steering going completely out in the car as i was turning.

Power steering failed during very cold temperature. Could not turn the wheel

While driving and parking, the power steering failed. A warning light came up on the dash board saying stop now. Power steering fail.

Power steering just went out. No warning until it was out. I was on my way to work driving and the power steering just went out completely. Almost caused an accident when it went out do to how hard it is to steer! it's not hydraulic system. It's all electric assist steering. There are many other people with this same issue. Some mechanics could not find the issue. Including people that have taken it to a ford dealership. Some people have spent over $1,000 and the issue has came back within a few months. Also this issue has caused some accidents. Ford needs to find the problem and fix it on all cars!

Power steering failed while driving.vehicle was taken to dealer for repair.manufacturer diagnosed as "power steering control module" and replaced part.less than two months later, power steering failed again.vehicle again was taken to dealer for repair and diagnosed as "power steering pump wiring harness melted"power steering wiring harness part is currently not available and part is being manufactured 3 weeks after incident.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the rear passenger side wheel well experienced severe corrosion. The contact noticed holes inside the shock and bracket. In addition, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the rear passenger side wheel well. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

Right rear shock absorber mounting has gotten weak and started to flex. The wheel well above it has lost the integrity of its plastic coating and has caused it to rust out enormously.shock mount and wheel well need to be replace. From doing some searching online this is a major problem for the 04-06 escape and can lead to a failure of the mounting and make the vehicle unsafe to drive.

We noticed banging coming from the right rear wheel well. After investigating, we found a number of small rusted out holes into the trunk from just that wheel well. The banging was the shock mount and the shock absorber hitting the well. The rusted out area has grown. There is no other indication of significant rust on the undercarriage. We've been told that this is the result of a leak from the hybrid battery; others, via message boards and the like, have reported the same problem. We were afraid that the shock absorber would hit the wheel and cause an accident so we took it off the road. Given we need the vehicle and don't want to sell an otherwise serviceable suv for scrap, we hope you can persuade ford to recall this model and fix this dangerous problem as soon as possible.

I heard a loud clunky from the right rear wheel well, louder when going over bumps. Upon inspection i observed the entire wheel well was missing it's protective coating and flaking rust/corrosion was everywhere with exposed white fiberglass sheeting visible the right rear shock is exposed, missing bolts and with the bracket missing the other side of the care (left rear) does not exhibit this rust. With palpation of the right rusted rear well a person can move the remaining pieces. This is very unsafe and can not imagine why there is not a recall as other reviews online describe the same problem. I called ford: no assistance or recall as of this date. I reside in wisconsin and took care to remove underbody salt to no avail, evidentially.

Right rear wheel well completely rusted out and collapsed, exposing shock. Shock is broken. You can see through wheel well via the jack compartment. Unsafe to drive. Rough estimates are $3000-4000, replacing wheel well, shock, and right rear quarterpanel. Left wheel well intact and good.

Right rear wheel well fully rusted out, causing shock absorber to hit metal. Holes you can see through the jack compartment. Loud knocking.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. When the contact took the vehicle to an unknown dealer in fenton, michigan for maintenance, it was diagnosed that the shock tower frame wasrusted. The vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The contact was referred to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

We have a 2006 ford escape hybrid - and just this morning, upon hearing an odd rattle coming from the right rear when dropping off my daughter at the local veterinary hospital, i inspected the right rear wheel housing and discovered, to my shock, that under the factory black inner fender undercoating, which was hanging off, the upper shock mount was almost completely perforated with rust, to the point that i could feel a flow of cold air from the a/c exiting the cabin through the perforations. I called ganley ford as soon as they opened, but the body shop won't be open until monday. This is my wife's primary car, and with what i've discovered, i'm reluctant to have her, or anyone, drive it until the problem's addressed - and the extent of the corrosion is astonishing. With a 400++ pound battery located between the left and right upper shock mounts, and with the extent of the corrosion i just found, i'm equally concerned for the left rear upper shock mount and body pan integrity, as well as for the hybrid system and battery pack.please help me to get into immediate contact with the proper ford zone representative to get a look at this issue and decide where to go from here - this is a premium hybrid suv that i thoroughly researched before selecting to purchase, and now i'm afraid to even move it from my parking deck at the office.this car, and other escapes suffering from this same issue, are accidents waiting to happen. A simple web search shows that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of escapes suffering the same issues. This is a critical safety issue and i would ask sincerely that nhtsa investigate and act quickly. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle exhibited an abnormal grinding noise from the rear passenger's wheel. In addition, the contact noticed corrosion around the wheel and suspension of the rear passenger wheel. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.

Rear subframe broke above the axle near the differential. Symptoms are grinding noise during left turns as traction control and abs systems activate. Ford dealer estimates cost of $3=$8,000 to replace the rear subframe.## vin passed ## ford escape hybrid awd 2006 ##

The right rear fender well of my vehicle is broken and cracked where the shock mounts at the top.therefore, the shock is basically attached to nothing more than some broken pieces of the fender well.the spring is the only thing giving the vehicle any support on the right rear tire and it makes an abdominal noise when going over the slightest bump.ford has refused to replace the part and upon further research, has told many other owners of this model escape the same thing.i understand that rust happens, but this is quite clearly a manufacturer's defect.

The right rear shock and bracket that attaches it to the car is rusting and has broken off causing a very dangerous situation. This occurred without warning and presents an extremely hazardous situation.

Breaks failed..ford dealer said needs a new hydrolic unit etc for $5200.00!! found info online that shows this should be a recall!!! big safety problem.. Please respond..help

I was driving on a state road at about 45 mpg when the car started to overheat, ac was not cooling as it was before the warning then a safety sign came on the dashboard to stop the vehicle safely. The next day (saturday) i called greenway ford dealership, colonial sr 50, fl and ask if there is a recall on my vehhicle and explained what happened. I was told yes there is a recall on the cooling pump/motor to bring in the vehicle on monday.i paid for the vehicle to be towed on monday at 7:30am as i was told not to drive it.i called the dealership to ensure that the vehicle was there and asked to be contacted once a diagnosis was done. No one called me until 4:30pm to pick up the vehicle.two days later the vehicle warning sign came on again to safely stop the vehicle.i called the dealership again and i was told i can wait and see if it happens again which i did a couple weeks later and left a voice message. Two days ago, the same warning safety sign came on.yesterday, i privately went to a mechanic to run a diagnostic, which had an error code of p1a10 - hybrid powertrain module -battery disabled.i went to the dealership as i had no return call from the manager mark foster.after 2 and 1/2 hours i was told that i have to replace the hybrid battery cooling fans as one is not working for a cost of $1,127.26 when i inquired about the hybrid battery being disabled i was told by the manager and technician that the "battery is protecting itself from melting or catching on fire by disabling".the problem that existed prior to changing the cooling pump still exists and the ford company nor the dealership is taking any responsibility.

The anti-theft system is unstable and is triggered randomly. This is an ongoing problem with this vehicle and has been reported widely among other owners of ford escape - model and year are varied. The anti-theft system is triggered by no external cause but does seem to react strongly to heat. Although lately this is now happening in the middle of the night. Ford charges excessively for diagnoses and repair and it is generally found to be a problem with an access point sensor. This is a systemic problem with the ford alarm system and should not be the consumer that bears the brunt of responsibility for a defect that the corporation is building into all years of the ford escape.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i own a 2006 ford escape hev, vin: [xxx] , with about 50,000 miles.from time-to-time the cruise control will activate, by itself, in the accelerate mode.and this occurs when my hands are no where near the activation controls.thus far it has not happened in heavy traffic and i have had time to shut the cruise control down; but it does get my attention.this had happened on numerous occasions in the last 9 months.

I am sitting on i-95 in connecticut and almost got into an accident.my truck just stopped. The red triangle with the explanation point came on and the car flashed "stop safely". All systems are normal. This has happened 3 times this trip and i'll be lucky to get home alive.

The contact owns a 2006 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, she noticed that the electronic throttle body warning light was illuminated as the vehicle the stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle yet the failure recurred three times. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure and current mileage was approximately 103,000. Updated 4/29/13 the consumer stated the mecs pump failed and was replaced per the ford technical service bulletin tsb08-24-5 issued by ford company. The vehicle was not covered under warranty due to its vin. Updated 06/11/2013

Car went from a high speed 60km to no acceleration in the middle of traffic. The engine was still running but the car would not accelerate. The error code indicate a throttle body issue.

Driving on the interstate and the car shuts down displaying a stop safely now error.... Apparently a faulty pump. The same pump that we've already replaced 3 times..... Not only is this annoying but it's a huge safety problem. The vehicle loses all power!

2006 ford escape hybrid.consumer writes in regards to vehicle completely lost all power while driving.smdthe consumer also stated a red triangle appeared on the instrument panel.

31 degrees driving 5 mph.. I had a 45 min commute to work had the defrost on when i left home.. Got to work and my rear window exploded while driving in the parking lot.no other moving vehicles around and smooth well maintained parking lot.the glass went in billions of pieces outside on the ground for about 10 feet back and inside all the way to the front seats of the car.

The back window shattered at the gas station after i got gas and put air in the tires. As i slowly came to a roll my back window exploded in the gas station parking lot. Shattered into a million pieces. It's all over the ground at the gas station and the tiny pieces are all over the inside of my vehicle.the vehicle was barely in motion as i had not exited the gas station parking lot when it happened.

Car was parked in our carport overnight (12/24-25, 2015).when i came out the rear window was shattered.most of the glass was outside the car, perhaps 5 percent was inside.no fallen branches, no sign of foul play, none of our other cars were damaged in any way.i looked up and found that similar incidents of "random rear window explosion" had been reported on ford escapes, and that there was an active nhtsa investigation happening, so i wanted to add our incident to the list.

I was driving home around 9 pm. It was about 40 degrees outside and the rear defroster was on. My two kids were in the back seat and my husband was in the passenger seat. The rear window of my 2006 ford escape just shattered. We pulled over to see if someone had thrown something at the car, but there was nobody around except a father and his young children. He hadn't seen anything but said he heard the window break as we drove by. There was glass on the inside and outside of the car. I am thankful that my kids were not hurt, but i am shocked that something like this could happen. I looked this up online and have found many other complaints of this same thing happening to other people.
