Problem: airbag warning light on. Date brought vehiclefor service was03/07/06with mileage 15239 and replaced both front airbags.

I own a 2005 ford escape hybrid. When i bought it (brand new) i noticed an air bag issue where during driving, if the passenger made a slight sitting adjustment, the airbag would deactivate. Sometimes it would not reactivate, or take a long time (5, 10 minutes). I told ford about it, and they replaced the airbags seat gel pad sensor.the symptom improved, but still happens. My fiance is 120lbs and she sits normally in her seat. If she makes a move to readjust (as one would on a road trip, or long drive) the airbag may still deactivate. Initially it was frequent (75% of the time) however now it is 50/50 (since the replaced gel pad).however, it is troubling to know that when i am driving, sometimes my fiancee''s airbag is deactivated. We feel vulnerable that the safety items we purchased to protect us are not always there for us.i tried communicating with ford telling them it still persists, but they just don't "get it". I don't understand that when a passenger sits in the seat and the car knows it - how can the car deactivate that airbag while we are driving 60 mph? that seems like a design flaw - as obviously the passenger cannot exit the vehicle while the car is in motion, or even before the door opens.in my opinion, if the car senses a passenger when starting to move, then the airbag should stay on - at least until it stops moving (comes to a complete stop). So *motion* would be a check point and non-motion would be another point to *reevaluate* - but definitely not in the middle of freeway driving...i hope people appreciate the grandeur of the situation where the airbag purposely deactivates (from incorrect event programming) while driving. Also, the below incident date is irrelevant.

Car was parked and turned off left sitting for 2 hours. Got back, turned vehicle on, backed up from parking stall and power steering locked. It became hard to turn or control the steering. Tried turning off car and restarting, but that did not reset or release the power steering. No warning sound or lights came on. Drove car home with emergency lights and on the shoulder for about 3 miles. Parked car and left sitting for 5 hours hoping it would reset. Before turning the ignition, i turned on ac, then turn on the car. That did nothing. Now the wrench light came on and "power steering service" warning came on. Isn't the warning done before an incident can happen? had a mechanic place a machine to diagnose the car, but no luck. Please help in fixing the issue. There should be an investigation for defect on electrical warning.

At highway speed, the engine suddenly shut itself off. At the same time, a dashboard readout displayed the message "stop safely now."in order to get to the shoulder of the road i was forced to cut across a lane of traffic without warning and without power.no other warning lights or signals displayed.had there been no shoulder, i could easily have been a high-speed crash.the engine started again as soon i turned the key after stopping the vehicle, but still no warning lights or explanations displayed.this happened three times during a 3-hour trip across maryland, and it happened again once on the return trip two days later.an internet search reveals that this is not an uncommon problem with ford hybrids, yet no recall has been issued to remedy this extremely dangerous defect.

The abs control module. Noticed many complaints.had 1700 dollars of work to fix the issue and the brakes went out on me yesterday. Three weeks after the work. The abs and brake light came on again and the brakes failed on hwy 19 fl. Pulled over ,turned the car off like what i read online about this type a vehicle, started up and the brakes were back' took it home and parked it. When is ford going to put a recall on this, when someone dies.of course had i known about this defect i would have never purchased it. I have only had it for a little over a month and it has low mileage..

I was driving my 2005 ford escape hybrid april 1, 2010, west bound on i-90 in massachusetts between sturbridge and chicopee when the first incident happened.the "control module" displayed a "stop safely now" message and then proceeded to shut down the vehicle.i was forced, without power, to traverse 3 lanes of high speed, high volume traffic, to the shoulder.i was frightened for my life at the time. Since the first occurrence, the same "stop safely now" message and vehicle shut-down repeated several more times, before i took it in to the ford dealership where i bought it - sunnyside ford, in holden ma.they have had it now since april 14th 2010 and are unable to repair.after first replacing a motor electronics (mec) pump, the problem has gotten worse - indeed, the vehicle will not drive at all before receiving the "stop safely now" and vehicle shutdown message.my independent online research has provided much information from owners of the same ford escape hybrid, who have had the same or close to the same set of problems.on april 30th 2010, i wrote a letter to sunnyside ford's service manager, outlining my findings and asking for a ford certified hybrid engineer to intervene in my vehicle's repair. There have been many, now including myself, who feel the underlying problem is a design issue.i have only 23,250 miles on it, way too early for the car to be having mechanical failure due to usage alone.its the fact that when the problem arises, that the control module (pcm) shuts down the vehicle that makes this a safety issue.its just a matter of time before someone is in or causes a serious accident, if it has not already happened.the ford escape hybrid should undergo a ford recall and re-design on the entire electronics overlay, to permanently fix the issue.

The electronic coolant pump that cools the hybrid battery is faultywe have had this problem for two years and the car continually breaks down on trips.we have spent over 1500 fixing it.there is a recall on this product and ford refuses to honor because the light is not on currently.as soon as my son drives somewhere the light goes on and the car comes to a stop.he currently is in grad school in denver and we are getting complete run around from ford.

Driving at night on four-lane us highway at 50 mph when engine suddenly stalled.warning lamp came on with stop safely now message.scary in traffic but was able to pull over onto shoulder without causing an accident.aaa towed to ford dealership which diagnosed stuck open circuit in throttle body.replaced part 5m6z*9e926*ca throttle body and motor asy.part $376.70 labor $262.50shop fee $2.50 sales tax $48.13 total $ 689.83very expensive but lucky to not have been hurt.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning and the "stop safely" warning indicator flashed. The vehicle was unable to be driven due to the failure. Manteca ford (555 n main st, manteca, ca 95336, (209) 239-3561) was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed in order to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.

On 3/17/2009, after washing the vehicle at a car wash, the service engine soon light came on.the vehicle later stopped running and was towed to the dealership.they had it for 3 days and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it.we were charged without prior notification.on 9/01/2010, the fuel filter was replaced at the same dealership.on the way home, the vehicle began to overheat.it stopped running in traffic and we were almost hit.it was taken to the local ford dealer on 9/07/2010 to be looked at at the advice of ford.they found a faulty water pump, replaced it and a filter, and we were told the problem was fixed.on 9/09/2010, the vehicle once again overheated, stranding us again.it was returned to the dealer, where they reset the computer and again told us it was fixed.on 11/23/2010, it was raining and again the vehicle stalled, but we were able to return home.on 12/17/2010, the repair engine soon light came on, and we haven't driven it since.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving approximately 30 mph, the speed suddenly decelerated before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted, but continued to experience the failure. During the incident, the master vehicle electrical hazard warning and the engine electric coolant temperature sensors illuminated. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 200,000.

I was driving my vehicle and the "service soon" light came on then about 10 seconds later the "stop safely" light came on and my vehicle shutdown and would not restart.i had the vehicle towed to the nearest ford dealership and found out that there was a failure with the electrical system that had to be reset (shutdown was to protect the hybrid battery).once ford fixed the electrical system to get car to start again, they informed me that the passenger side rear shock absorber had fully detached from the wheel house and was basically a dangling piece.ford could offer no help "they didn't have the equipment or capability to fix" and said i had to go to a auto body shop to have the piece welded back to the frame.turns out there is nothing there to weld, the entire connection has rotted out and needs to be replaced.from what i can find online this is a recurring issue on 2005 ford escapes and ford refuses to deal with it.cars with these issues are extremely unsafe to drive.luckily i was not involved in an accident when this happened but i was only driving 35mph on a side street, imagine what could've happened if i was traveling at 70mph on the highway and the piece just fell out.this is an extremely difficult fix that ford owners should not have the burden of dealing with financially on a car that is less that 10 years old.my car is very well maintained and has a lot of life left in it, but now this fix is going to cost close to $2500.this should be further investigated so ford has to fix this safety issue!has anyone considered filing a class action suit for defective car parts???

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid.while driving 65 mph, the contact noticed that the maintenance light illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the electrical motor was overheating.the current and failure mileages were 77,000.

The vehicle was parked and would not start. I received warnings on the dash and the information panel stating to slow to a stop and service the brakes. I was able to start the vehicle after disconnecting the battery and everything operated normally. After getting home and running diagnostics everything came back normal. Later that day the vehicle would not start again with the same warnings and it was more and more difficult to get the vehicle working again. I also noticed that the 12v battery seemed to be leaking so i inspected and cleaned it.the next day (monday) i brought the vehicle to the ford dealer and explained the problems including the leaking battery. The dealer replaced the 12 v battery under warranty and said my problems should be fixed but they would check for fault codes. The dealer found additional problems with the abs brake system but could not immediately diagnose the cause. The car was left for another day and eventually i was told that it was most likely the hydraulic control unit (hcu) with was approximately a $4500 part. I have read stories online that this is a fairly common problem with this model year escape hybrid and ford is aware of the issue but not doing anything to correct it other than making the owners buy $4500 replacement parts.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the water pump for the hybrid battery failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 75,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled. The contact also mentioned that a red triangle illuminated with a message to stop safety. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic diagnosed that the service harness needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. According to the service bulletin, the program involved installing a service harness in the high-voltage traction battery and reprogramming the battery control module. I was about 115 miles into a 130 mile trip, doing 70 mph on the interstate, when out of no where my vehicle jerked very hard and then started making loud sounds like parts falling out. All of the cars behide me had to slam on breaks and avoid hitting me.no lights or warnings had come on until after this happened.i steered the car off of the interstate and down the ramp into a store parking lot.the car was not running hot.looked under car and oil was coming out all over the ground.a man looked and said it looked like the coolant system messed up and it through a rod in the motor block.i got the car one month ago andit was doing great.by looking up on type car there is others having problems like this and recalls on the coolant system. While driving, received a "stop safely now" warning light and the engine shutdown.second time in three weeks such incident occurred and this is after supposed "safety recall" work done on the vehicle a few months back.previous to the recall, the car actually shutdown numerous times while traveling at high rates of speed on major interstate highways.after the light comes on, the gas pedal is no longer responsive and you have to hope you can coast off the side of the road.once you stop safely and turn off the car, after waiting 5-10 minutes, the car usually comes back on, which leads me to believe it is due to some sort of overtemp condition.

When the vehicle is warmed up and decelerating below 40mph they gasoline engine will shut off as the regenerative braking charges the hybrid high voltage battery.on a rare occasion during this braking, the gasoline engine will turn back on giving a brief surge which requires pressing the brake harder.it has done this since i bought the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving 35 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact drove to lithia ford lincoln of roseburg (1650 ne stephens st, roseburg, or 97470, (541) 537-4643) where it was diagnosed that two hybrid fans needed to be replaced. The contact claimed that a recall was issued for this year, make, and model vehicle; however, upon investigation, no recalls could be found. The manufacturer was notified and were currently ordering the parts for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.

While traveling in the high speed lane at approximately 2 am, the vehicle lost engine power without any notice as the engine shut off and the power was reduced to minimal power given by the electric motor. This caused an inability to maintain speed on a very dangerous overpass curve of the freeway and nearly caused two vehicles in the immediate proximity to collide with my vehicle as speed rapidly dropped and the vehicle said to "pull over ands shut off vehicle safely". This part of the freeway had no pull over spot nor did it have an area to really safely pull off the freeway. This is the second time the car has done this at high speed within two weeks. It has done this approximately 1-0 times at low speeds on city streets. The car is able to be driven after shutting off the power, letting it sit, and then restarting the system. There is an accompanying overheating that occurts as a result of the engine shutting off, causing the engine to be unable to be easily restarted at that point. This event gives no warning or indication it will happen and is a very dangerous situation for any driver to be thrust into. If it had been rush hour traffic, i am certain there would have been accidents and vehicle collisions as a result.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, he noticed a ticking and banging sound coming from the engine. The contact merged to the shoulder of the road and had the vehicle towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the engine needed to be replaced because the number one piston was hitting the valve. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 81,939.

Its driving ok and then it starts losing power to 20 mph and it wont speed more from there until its turn off for hours then im driving again and it keeps doing the same thing.

Over the past 3 years i have had the issue of 'stop safely now' on multiple occasions. These issues didn't start until the mec pump was replaced under a recall. After that my 2005 escape hybrid will shut down while driving or not start or cut out the hybrid power and run on engine only. I took it to the local ford dealership where we have gotten all other service done three times for these issues. They haven't been able to tell me anything, stating only that there are no codes, so no idea where to look. I couldn't understand how the computer can know to tell me to stop driving the car, yet not record a dtc. It happened again on the first warm day of the summer - drove across town, parked it, came back 20 minutes later and it wouldn't start, showing 'stop safely now'. I left it until the next morning and it started right up and i drove it home. I went out and bought scanxl and used my laptop to scan the car. I found p1a10, p1a14, p0a0a, and p0a95. If i can buy some consumer program and find this info, way is ford telling there are no codes? ford also replaced the battery fans two years ago, stating they were covered under some recall or warranty. Searching theinternet gets me 100's of comments on this stop safely issue with dozens of possible causes depending on the year and model. My scan tool shows a battery voltage of 665 volts, though it's supposed to be a 300 volt battery. The hybrid evaporator temp can range between 220 and 310 degrees f when it's running ok. That can't be normal. I have noidea what's going on and can't get any help from the ford dealer.

Right rear well corroded extensively.4 inch hole exposing high voltage battery in trunk to water, salt, snow.dealer states that vehicle is unsafe to drive due to risk of collapse of struts and risk of explosion/fire from high voltage battery exposure.quotes more than $4000 to repair this vehicle with only 59,510 miles. Rear bumper and rear suspension both compromised. Rear bumper has no support on right side risking passenger injury in accident. Rear shock strut collapsing.request investigation and recall action.

While driving on the highway after about 30 min engine stall and red triangle lit up on dash.message on lcd said to stop safely now.pulled over and shut car off, restarted a couple of minutes later.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle became extremely hot, the engine stalled, and an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle jolted when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v256000 (hybrid propulsion system). The approximate failure mileage was 141,418.

While driving on the highway the red triangle came on and the lcd read high temperature warning.i stopped the vehicle and the engine wasn't hot and there was plenty of coolant for the radiator in the reservoir.started vehicle after 5 min and drove home.

2005 ford escape hybridcar has 65,000 miles on it with no history of brake trouble.coming downill the abs/brake lights came on along with an alarm and immediate loss of the brakes.had to use mechanical emergency brakes to stop.called dealership next morning to tow it in, then read on line to try restarting the car the next day and the problem might be gone.car started, no brake issues apparent (no lights, brakes functional) so drove it to dealership for review/repair.took copies of online research showing this is an issue with the car.dealership claimed it was the rear air conditioner (hole in the evaporator core) - they had repaired the ac 4 months previously, which only lasted for 6 weeks.planned to have them repair it at the 65,000 mile service anyway.paid $1033.drove car home that night and the abs/brake lights went on, alarm sounded but this time not a total loss of brakes.instead whenever pressure is applied to the brake pedal, there is a loud thumping noise from the front brakes and shuddering throughout the car.plan is to return to dealership after the weekend and bring latest research showing faulty hcu units have been found to be an underlying cause, which ford is denying.

Displayed "stop safely now" while driving on interstate. I pulled over and turned engine off. Restarted and drove a few miles and received notice again. Repeated this cycle about 10 times before i was finally able to make it home. Had dealer service car and do a battery fan recall. Drove okay for a month but now i am getting the same error and having to shut the vehicle down and restart.

Going 65 mph on freeway and the "stop safely now' error come up on the information display.2 min. Later the engine stops and i coast to the right hand shoulder and shut everything off.5 min later i restart the car and everything is normal and the car drives perfectly for the next 2000 miles (present time).dealer finds the error codes but does not know what to replace to prevent this from happening again.

While driving my 2005 ford escape hybrid the following occurred. I was stopped at an intersection and when i began making a left turn, an alarm sounded, a red wrench symbol, and red exclamation mark lit up on the dash. I immediately pulled to the curb and the car lost all power and steering locked up. The car restarted and i took it to ford. The service rep said the car went into a "fail safe mode" which it does to protect the hybrid battery from overheating. I was told that the alarm and symbols occur to give you about 5 minutes to safely get off the road. This did not happen. The car just lost power immediately. The ford dealership determined that a coolant pump for the hybrid battery needed to be replaced which was done. Five weeks later the same thing happened again. I was stopped at a light and when i began turning right, the alarm sounded, the red wrench and exclamation light lit up and the car lost all power immediately. Again, i was able to restart the engine so i took it back to ford to be looked at. They replaced a "suspect" cooling pump relay and road tested the car. The problem could not be duplicated. My concern is that this vehicle's "fail safe mode" makes the car completely shut down immediately. Both times i was able to move into an emergency lane, but what would have happened if i was on a freeway and the car just stopped? i am concerned that other ford escape hybrids may have the same problem and it is a real safety hazard. The second time it happened my grandchildren were in the backseat and i could have been rear ended. After having the ford dealership look at it and replace the cooling pump relay i traded in the vehicle the next day.i would like to have this documented in case there is a pattern with these cars or other hybrids. I will never purchase one again.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated when driving at 65 mph and without any warnings the vehicle would stall and the stop safely now warning light would illuminate. The vehicle was able to be restarted within seconds. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and the vehicle would not generate any diagnostic codes. The manufacture advised they were unable to provide any assistance without knowing the exact failure based upon the dealer's diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 82,000 and the current mileage was 88,837.

This report is for the third occurrence (there have been 2 prior occurrences in the past 6-8 weeks).this vehicle has roughly 17,900 miles and keeps shutting itself down without much (if any) warning.this time, i had about 2-4 seconds warning (which would not be adequate if the vehicle had been on a highway or busy road).i was in a parking lot about to pull out into traffic when the yellow wrench light came on.before i could do anything, the vehicle shut itself off.at about 16,000 miles, the "high motor temperature" warning came on.i was able to get off the highway and get it towed.the dealership told me it was a bad electric water pump and replaced it.(i was later told by the dealer that the water pump that failed was a known problem at ford - apparently a truck carrying these was in an accident and boxes of these pumps literally fell out of the truck. Ford supposedly tested them and decided to use them anyways). About a week later, i could tell there was still something wrong with the vehicle.(it had been "surging" forward when coming to a stop without warning and had many other noises/issues that were a sign that something was still wrong).i brought it back - and after they examined it they assured me that everything was fine.within 2 weeks, we were driving on the highway when the "high motor temperature" light came on again.my husband got off at the first exit and tried to get it to the ford dealership that was 2 blocks away.unfortunately, without warning, it powered itself down right in front of a city transit bus.this time, the dealer said it was the water pump and fuse again and replaced both.after getting the vehicle back, i was still concerned since this seemed to be a major safety issue (having it power down in front of a city bus is enough to scare the living daylights out of you).this is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that when driving above 60 mph the overheat indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel, then the vehicle stalled. As a consequence his risk of a serious injury was increased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technicians have been unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000. The current mileage was 79,000.updated 10/29/09 the pump for the cooling system was defective. Updated 10/29/09.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 80 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled after an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to continue driving on the battery power and then independently restarted. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and they advised him that they were unable to diagnose the failure. A few weeks later, the exact failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who advised taking the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The dealer inspected the vehicle and advised him that the failure was caused by the coolant pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000. The vin was unavailable.

I pulled out of a parking lot driving our new 2005 ford escape hybrid and approached the first intersection when a message flashed on the dash "pull over safely now."before i could pull over the engine turned off.after a few tries, i was able to move the car on the battery power through the intersection (very slowly) to a busy bus stop.i couldn't start the car again right away.however, on battery power again, i was able to get back to the parking lot.we had the car towed to a ford dealership from there.it took them two weeks to figure out what was wrong and fix the car.when the incident happend, the car had 260 miles on it.

Service brake sys message on 2005 ford escape hybrid along with brake warning light.

Early sept 2014 - began to experience intermittent issues of "limp home" mode.originally, issue began with small "surges" in acceleration that i believed were simply related to the hybrid engine kicking into gear.then experienced multiple but random "limp home mode" events, particularly when stopping at lights or accelerating (light-mod pressure) from a full stop.car would flash "service engine soon" and not go above 20mph and sometimes not that.would pull off if able, otherwise, would have to stop with flashers in the middle of the road, turn off the engine, wait a minute, and then restart (rebooting car).this would clear the check engine light and car would resume normal operation - of note:codes would not stay in the history of the computer.after several occurrences, managed to "limp home" to a mechanic while the light was on and pull codes between 2009-2012 and was advised to have the computer reprogrammed by ford service.car began limping home during full traffic and full acceleration (not stopped or slowing), causing a massive safety concern.noted multiple investigative mentions on internet regarding 2005-2012 etb issues, but also noted this was then only "replaced" for 2009-2012.apparently, anything older than 09 is a lost cause.10/23/14 - have car in ford service and recall (14s19) has been noted regarding motor electronics coolant pump causing "a failure mode effects management strategy that can result in a sudden partial or full loss of motive power" to protect vehicle powertrain.being charged for diagnostic even though there is a recall on the part that is likely causing the problem.

Re:2005 ford escape hybrid defect in throttle bodyelectronic throttle body malfunction nhtsa action number: dp12006opened 10/2/2012dear nhtsa, around 4 months ago, we purchased a used 2005 ford escape hybrid in north carolina.we have had numerous issues with this and our other 2006 ford escape hybrid including having to replace cv axle's in both vehicles, engine alerts in a limp home operation or completely dying or stalling while driving and:rear right door alarm has been coming on consistently in hot weatherservice emissions warning came on and these codes came up:c1524 ' brake pedal travel sensor calibration not completec1218 ' lamb antilock brake system warning output circuit malfunction (this code came up in 4/2016 as wellsomeone says it could be a bulb burned outp0126 ' coolant thermostat temperature below thermostat regulating (twice)p0685 ' engine control module powertrain cont. Power relay circuit /open while driving, both cars have failed and many times ford service would spend over 3 weeks trying to figure out what was wrong with our vehicles. After around 3 weeks, fairway ford of kingsport, tn's mechanic, bob, notified me that it was the throttle body and a p1a0c code, which costs almost $1,000 to replace.despite this recall, when i asked ford service at two different locations if there were any recalls they said no because they didn't want to fix the problem.in fact, at one dealership, i received the car back with a damaged window and they refused to repair it as well.i'm asking for an investigation into this defect, a recall to be issued and for ford to pay for the repair since this has been an issue in these vehicles.

This vehicle will go into "fail-safe" mode, which shuts the ic engine off while you're driving at highway speeds.it happens very intermittently and not in any consistent pattern.once it happens, it continues to occur unless the car cools off completely.happens only when car is used for long trips.multiple fault codes show up on the computer, and based on those fault codes, i've had the hybrid coolant pump replaced, the air filter for the batteries replaced, and the fans that cool the battery replaced.i've had multiple trips to both ford dealership service and excellent independent mechanics (who were blocked on the ford technical website, even though these independent mechanics subscribe, from finishing their research into repair options) with the final results that they can't do anything to repair it.other than this problem, it's a very nice vehicle....... But, i'm very nervous that this shut-down will occur in fast, heavy traffic where i cannot get to the side of the road safely and cause a horrible accident and loss of life...... Including my own or my family.i cannot keep this vehicle longer...... But, if i trade it off.... It's only going to be someone else's problem.this should have been a recall issue for ford.go online, and you can find many people with the same problem, several of which have had terrifying experiences with this problem.fortunately, most of my driving with this vehicle is on 2-lane state highways where i can pull off when this happens.in the middle of 80-mph la traffic on a 6 lane freeway..... In the middle lane...... I shudder to think.i bought this vehicle in december, 2011, and will be giving someone else the problem soon, as i cannot continue to spend money on a vehicle that no one is capable of fixing, and i cannot keep it with this problem.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning on three different occasions. The vehicle was towed on all three occasions. Frontier ford in santa clara, california (3701 stevens creek blvd, 95051) was made aware of the series of failures and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the recall was already performed on april 1, 2015. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

The "wrench" light and "engine" light illuminated on the dash.the information system flashed "service now" and "service emission system." the car suddenly seemed to bog down and slowed to around 15 mph. From there it would not accelerate beyond 30 mph.the accelerator was unresponsive and seemed mushy.once at 30 mph the car would hesitate and jerk.it also stalled when slowing.these are the same exact symptoms that other escape owners have experienced and which ford has recognized as a manufacturing defect under customer satisfaction # 13n03 for escape models 2009-2012. The ford dealer says the electronic throttle body needs to be replaced.however, as of this writing ford is not covering the repair for earlier models even though they have the same engine, same symptoms, same repair necessary.come on ford, do the right thing!

The car has twice lost power while i was driving it. The red warning light comes on the car loses power but the power steering and brakes remain functional. The car was on recall for this exact thing and i took the car in. The dealer tells me i have the brushless coolant pump so it's not due to the defective motor electronics coolant pump and he's not replacing it. But it's still doing it and nothing else is wrong with the car. This is dangerous because the second time it happened i was on the interstate going 70 miles an hour.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the brake pedal was applied and did not respond. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system) and was unable to determine when the remedy and part would become available to complete the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 172,912. Updated 11/19/15*lj

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving 30 mph, the "pull over safely now" warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The contact stated that the braking system failed to operate as intended. The crash occurred while the contact was en route to coccia ford lincoln inc (located at 577 e main st, wilkes-barre, pa 18702, (570) 823-8888) to have the vehicle repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and issued case number: cas-14733790. The approximate failure mileage was 174,109.

There was a leak of some fluid noted in my driveway, and a request was made for the dealer to investigate during the next routine service.no leak was found.at 110,000 miles, during routine service, a leak was noticed by the mechanic, but no source was found.some time after that, a noise began to develop in the front end.at 120,000 miles, the noise was severe, and an inspection determined that the ptu was failing.i was told that it was okay to drive until the part arrived.the noise got worse within a few hundred miles, changed to a vibration, and then an occasional clunking noise.i stopped driving the vehicle, awaiting the replacement part.i have since become aware of tsb 09-4-4 mar 09drivetrain - fluid leak from ptu vent.i feel that this may have been the source of the reported leak, and that loss of fluid in the ptu led to the failure of the ptu, which only holds 12 ounces of fluid.this leakage should have been detected by the dealer, and the loss of my ptu might have been prevented.these ptus fail prematurely, and are consistently on back order.my dealer had another unit in for the same ptu replacement when i picked mine up after the repair, and acknowledges replacing many.ford should cover the cost of the replacement ptu, a simple mechanical device that should last longer than the car, certainly as long as other driveline components like the rear end, several hundred thousand miles.

I have @75000 miles on my ford escape hybrid 4wd. I started hearing a noise and strong vibration in the steering wheel at 50 mph and a noise as i slow down.i took it in to the dealership i have always taken my car to and they eventually diagnosed it as being the transfer case.on sept 15, 2011, the dealership said at that time to replace the transfer case would be @$1500-1600.the dealership also said it was back ordered until oct 10, 2011.they said it obviously was a problem with many escapes since it was back ordered at ford.i have asked ford to pay for the replacement of the transfer case and they have refused. I went on line and this problem has happened to other owners of the escape, not just 2005. One owner said it happened at 60,000 mi. I feel it is a flaw and that they should pay to replace it.

Brake abs brake light on and brakes do work right, i took it to a dealer and they said some kind of pump is bad and it cost $5000 to fit it. Lots of people having the same problem. I think ford should recall those cars for safety. I don't think no brakes should cost $5000 to fit. I m scare to drive it.

Abs light is on constantly my brakes arent working properly times when it didnt stop had to shift into low gear and pull off to safe spiot i was trying to stop

The brakes failed on the car. At first it locked and then the pedal went all the way to the floor. I didn't hit them again and coasted to a stop finally putting on the parking brake. Then i had the car towed. This happened again about five weeks later and this time it was exactly the same but, i hit the brakes a third time and the car stopped. After the first incident, the mechanic tried to recreate the problem and could not. This same thing happened a few years ago and we replaced -- at great expense -- the hydraulic control unit. I think this is a defect in this car.

Brake light beeps and the brakes suddenly go out so that you can barely stop the car.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving at any speed, the contact would experience a sporadic loss of brake control. The abs and the brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the master cylinder failed. The vehicle was repaired however the warning lights continued to illuminated . The mechanic then stated the hydraulic control unit would also have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 200,000.

In normal driving, with no warning, "brake" and "abs" warning lights illuminate along with "service brake system" display. Considerable effort is required to slow the vehicle and stopping distance is 2-3 times normal. I ended up in a ditch because i could not stop in time.

While coming up to a stop sign the brakes stopped working.luckily there were no cars in front of me as the car continued to roll pass the stop sign.flooring the brakes caused the car to slow down slowly. I ended up pulling over immediately, turning off the vehicle and inspecting the vehicle. I saw no clear indication of anything being wrong.when i turned back on the vehicle everything was fine, until the same thing happened the next day. I took the car to a few car shops but no one could find anything wrong with it.the car was even taken for a test drive by the mechanic but performed with no problems. One of the shops recommended i replace the master cylinder or the hydraulic control unit but could not guarantee the problem would never occur again. I don't feel comfortable paying so much for a non guaranteed job so unfortunately i am still driving the vehicle and the brakes continues to stop working at random times.

On ladson, sc road my brake light warning came on and i had no brakes.this happened three times before, but i pulled off the road and turned the engine off then turned back on and brakes worked.this time on ladson road, i could not get the brakes to work, and i had to call a tow truck to take the car home.i cannot drive the car, and feel stranded at home.i am an 82 year old widow.i have to get my son to take me where i need to go.he has to get off work to do this.i need my car.please help.according to the ford company it costs $5000.00 to fix.i do not have $5000.00.i live on a fixed income.

I bought this 2005 ford escape hybrid from driver's world in virginia beach, va, and found serious problems with the brakes the minute i drove off the lot. Immediately after the first stop sign leaving the used car dealership, i gently pressed the brakes to slow down and felt as though the abs was locking up preventing me from even slowing down. When i let off of the brakes and pressed them again, i was able to brake just fine. I figured it may have been a fluke, so i continued driving for 2 hours from virginia beach to midlothian. I stopped at a stop light in midlothian when the brake light and the abs light both came on at the same time, and the vehicle began to roll. I pressed the brakes as hard as i could and the vehicle stopped rolling. I continued to drive for 2 miles in this condition of having to press the brakes extremely hard to get the vehicle to slow down. When i arrived at my destination, i turned the car off and back on, and the problem had gone away. I took the car back to driver's world 36 hours later. Driver's world kept the vehicle for two and a half weeks and claimed that they were unable to reproduce the problem. Therefore, even though the vehicle is under their 30day/1000mile warranty they will not make any repairs or give a refund. I picked the vehicle up from driver's world, and at the first stop light i came to the brake light came on. I took it back to driver's world, and they were able to find error codes c1471 and c1472, but they did not know what they meant so they told me to take the vehicle to ford's service department. On the way to ford's service department there was one occasion when i pressed the brakes and felt again that the abs was locking up preventing me from even slowing down. I let off of the brake and pressed it again, and i stopped just fine. At this time ford still has the vehicle and is attempting to reproduce the problem.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving 35 mph, the brakes failed. The contact had to engage the parking brake to stop the vehicle. Also, the abs warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to jerry's ford alexandria (6510 little river turnpike, alexandria, va 22312, (703) 256-5000), but the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 116,000. The vin was not available.

Intermittent loss of braking over the past 12 months, with the 3rd occurrence resulting in a collision on june 28, 2016 on a city street.vehicle has had intermittent brake and abs warning lights with no diagnostic codes, and warning lights eventually reset with no additional action taken.brake system has been serviced several times without resolution.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the brakes failed. The contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the abs controlmodule failed and needed to be replaced. The vin was not available. The failure mileage and current mileages were 98,000.

On several occasions, i was getting ready to stop and noticed that the brake pad "stuck."the pad wouldn't depress and i was unable to stop.after additional effort, i was able to get the vehicle to slow down and stop, but i was already at a reduced speed since i was coming to a stop.i thought my car mat had jammed my brakes, so i thought nothing of it until it happened again. I took my vehicle to the ford dealer where i made the purchase.they kept my vehicle for a week to "reproduce" the problem, which they did. I was then told that the parts alone would cost $3,000, but that the engineers at ford corporate suggested that the mechanics perform an electro-mechanical brake bleed, which seemed to fix the problem, but it did not.three weeks later, the brakes failed again.this time the dealership kept my vehicle for two weeks, but were unable toreproduce the failure.i was told that the only way to fix the problem was to completely replace the braking system.i actually called ford hq about this issue.the person with whom i spoke offered no real resolution, and she seemed unaware of things. Ford is very aware of the problems with the hybrid braking system.this is a dangerous situation that is a design flaw--not a mechanical failure covered by a warranty.there is a difference, and ford needs to be held responsible.hybrids are very expensive, and therefore the manufacturers of these vehicles should be forced to take responsibility for design flaws that are as dangerous as brake failure.it's just a matter of time before my brakes fail and i end up in a terrible crash, either killing myself or someone else. Even if i spent $7,000 on a new system, it's going to fail again because it has the same design flaw of the current braking system.this is why ford needs to redesign this braking system and recall affected vehicles before someone gets killed.

Abs and brake light illuminate (with service brake system displayed) and brake pedal goes all the way to the floor.brakes fail to manual brakes only, very sensitive and will lock the wheels up; touchy with no real feed back, just applied or off with significant pressure required.happened when pulling into a gas station and nearly went past the pump, but skidded to a stop instead.system resets with each key cycle on/off.it is somewhat intermittent.while waiting for my ford appointment (cavalier ford in chesapeake, va), i duplicated the event several times under a controlled, open parking lot test and drive to the dealership.dealership ran diagnostics, and could not duplicate.the recommend replacing brake lines, then master cylinder, then hcu.repairs in order are $615, $1400, and over $4900.diagnostics ran $130...with no definitive answer to my problem.

While driving down the road, i hear an alarm for "service brake system", and lose all power to my brakes. Pedal is depressed to the floor with minimal ability to stop.

Computer controlling the brakes malfunction.i was on a state hyway when the dash light came on to warn of brake failure, and a couple of seconds later i had no brakes.i turned the motor off and back on, and i had brakes.this happened off and on until i was on ladson road going to a friends house and the brakes would not work and i had to call a tow truck and be towed home.this scares me and i will not drive the car until it is fixed. Ford says it will cost 5000.00 to fix it.i have to get my son to carry everywhere.i am 82 years old and need my car !!!!....updated 06/15/16

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the abs warning light illuminated and the brakes would not respond. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

Driving down the highway with my family, a car swerved into our lane cutting us off. We hit the brakes, the abs and brake light came on and the brakes only worked when we slammed on them! had to have the car towed as it was not drivable. Mechanic said it needed a new abs control module. Ordered that part twice. Took car to car computer specialist - said car was could not be reprogrammed. Bill is now over $2,000 and it has been over 2 weeks. Mechanic called ford (lots of complaints online about this issue). They said they could try to reprogram it, but it could take up to 10 hours and may not work. Ford said the last problem they saw like this didn't work and the owner had to trade in for a new car! not only could this incident have seriously harmed my family, but now i'm out of a car and $2,000!

I was stopped at a drive thru line my car made a noise i don't know how to describe accurately with words. I looked down and my abs and brake light were on and the brake service needed was on the dash display. I put the car in park and turned the car off then on. All the same warnings were still there. I pulled forward slowly and when braking i still didn't stop in a reasonable time and almost completely missed the drive thru window. Needless to say a drive home at 10-15mph still felt like i was in danger of hitting someone because i could not judge stopping distance even with my foot applying full pressure on the brakes. From all the information i have found on line this seems a very apparent case of something ford should be making a recall issue of high importance.i am hoping my reporting it here may help in preventing something very dangerous from happening in the future.

I was driving on a road where the speed limit was about 45 mph and i was going about 30 mph when all of a sudden a red light came on with the abs warning message on it and the car turned off. I tried to hit the brakes but the pedal went all the way to the ground and i could not stop the car. Fortunately, a car was not in front of me and i came to a complete stop and put my hazard blinkers on. After waiting a few minutes i restarted the car and it started as normal and the brakes worked as normal. The next day i took the car to the shop to get the brakes checked out and they could not find anything wrong with the brakes. Thankfully, the problem has not happened again. I am very fortunate that a car was not in front of me because i would have surely hit it.

The brakes are hard, runs all the way to stop this hard .el wheel can not turn easily to the sides. It gives me the code u0418, u0413. Is is not due to wear is a manufacturer fails

I pressed on the brake peddle.it was very loose and depressed easily about 1 inch, then stopped abruptly and held firm without slowing the car at all.after pressing down harder without being able to budge the brakes, i lifted and reapplied the brakes.this time they worked.the same thing happened again a coupe days later.i took it in to the ford dealer and they told me the abs module and master cylinder needed to be replaced.from my research, faulty master cylinder and abs module are common for this vehicle.

Upon start-up brake warning light on and "service brakes system" message.brake needed to be pushed very hard to have any effect.codes c1473 and c1525 come up.very expensivecomputer component replacements needed.

When brake pedal is applied with constant pressure, brakes would engage then fail to engage for short seconds, then engage again, symptoms are intermittent. Some times it would trigger a brake related dtc. Technician determined it was a failed hydraulic control unit in the brake system and was told it was common and occurred on a number of the same model vehicles from 2005 to 2012.

Brakes go stiff at random times while driving for no presented reason and cause a shock to driver and have to let go of brakes then press down to see if they will work. Happens in most if not all kids of conditions, not just one specific kind of situation. Has happened at least 10 times in the past 6 months.

I was driving my daughter home and pulling to a stop sign the brake and abs light as well as the service notification showed up and it became very difficult to brake. After taking it to the dealership i was informed that the hcu and control module assembly were defective.

For about a month, my check brake system light would come on along with the abs and the red brake lights when i would start my car.most of the time, i could turn the car off and wait for the electronics to turn off then start the car again and they wouldn't come on again.the lights came on a few times while driving and the brakes seem to have given out.i had to really push down all the way to get the car to slow down.i took it in but since it was random, they couldn't reproduce it or find anything wrong.last week, the lights came on and wouldn't go off at all.i made an appointment at the dealership and took it in a few days later.the lights didn't come on.the dealership called to say i needed a new hydraulic control unit (hcu).the price was $4500.this was on top of the two diagnostic fees of $125 each i had already paid.altogether i had to pay $4750 and my feh has 150,700 miles on it.

My brakes have a very hard pedal from time to time.requiring me to pump the brakes to stop. My ford dealer tells me it is the master cylinder and it will cost $3000.00 to repair. They also state that they are not sure this will fix the problem.(remember this is a hybrid and brakes are different)second issue is the electric drive train does not allow the engine to shut down under 30 mph like it is supposed to due under 30 mph.at times this requires extra breaking because the engine does not idle down like it should.ford seems to be aware of these problems.i found several complaints on the web describing the same problems.it seems ford has done very little to assist the customers, or to correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (tommie vaughn ford, 1201 n shepherd dr, houston, tx 77008, (713) 869-4661) several times and they were unable to provide a solution. The failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and a multi-point inspection was performed. The dealer determined that the brake master cylinder and the hcu needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had eight tsbs for the service brakes, hydraulics and one for the service brakes, air. There was no recall campaign. The vehicle was still at the dealer to be serviced with no solution other than replacing the parts. The failure mileage was not available.

Both front brake caliper flexible brake lines failed at the same time.i was fortunate that i was at low speed, hooking up my trailer at the time.no accident occurred.the brake fluid dumped on the inside of both front tires.

While coming up to a stop sign i started to press my brake and while coming to a stop the brakes stopped working allowing my vehicle to lunge forward a few feet without any brakes before the brakes kicked back in bringing my car to a stop. Also while idling around a parking lot my abs started engaging causing my vehicle to start jerking forward, i wasn't even touching the brakes.

First, sporadic loss of brake control; very brief; then, abs and brakes lights came on. Dash said "service brake system." brought it to local dealer, who said it needs a new master cylinder & hcu.

While driving, the braking power was lost and the abs and brake indicators appeared.this has happened several times over the course of the past month.fortunately i have not been on the highway, but there have been some near misses...accidents narrowly averted.this blog (http://blog.yagelski.com/2010/01/my-ford-escape-hybrid-brake-repair.html) by ken yagelski details his similar saga, and he ended up paying over $7,000 in repair costs.i cannot afford that kind of bill, and i don't feel i should have to pay it when it is a known design flaw.please help!

Started car and red brake light and yellow abs light came on and stayed on. Message to seek brake service asap.

1. Driving normally and then braking normally2. The abs brake light comes on and the brakes "slip" (i.e., the car slows, then "slips" forward again before the brakes re-engage and stop the car)occurs once or twice in a 30-mile stretchconsequences: if you need to stop completely due to a pedestrian or car stopping in front of you, the car doesn't stop fully. It slides after you've pressed the brakes and the abs overrides your braking.3. No repair has been undertaken yet.

My 2005 ford escape hybrid have 140,000 miles on it for the past 3 weeks the abs light and the red triangle stop the car safely come on when i start the cat. I pull over shut the car off restart and all is well until the next time.

2005 escape hybrid brake failure. I tried to stop and brakes only went half way down. I released and pushed again, had to use emergency brake to stop otherwise i would have gone through a store front window. Took to ford dealer and found out it was the master cylinder/solenoid. Per ford's technical service bulletin 0585 issued 8/5/05, this is a known issue corrected by installing a revised master cylinder. This could have killed me and the people inside the business. If this is a known, very dangerous problem, there should be a recall.

2005 ford escape hybrid - the car would begin to skid and slide when approaching a stop regardless of the vehicle speed or road conditions. The abs would kick in and the indicator would come on telling the driver that the car was sliding. This is a dangerous condition as the car would not stop when the brakes are pressed. After investigating online, i discovered that this is a known problem with this make and model of hybrid vehicle. Many other drivers have experienced the same thing. The suggestion was that the tone rings were cracked or broken. My repair shop discovered that both of mine were broken and one axle needed replaced. Interestingly, when the mechanics took the car on a test drive to diagnose the problem, the car would rev beyond 4 rpms, then the engine quit and the dashboard readout stated to pull over and stop the car immediately. The gas engine quit and the car would not go over 20 mph. After turning the car off and waiting a few seconds, the car was restarted and the computer/car reset itself and would run again. The same thing happened on an open highway going 60 mph. The indicator lights went off and the warnings to pull over and stop the car immediately displayed.this is a known issue by ford as they have issued dtc c1526. This particular blog (http://blog.yagelski.com/2010/01/my-ford-escape-hybrid-brake-repair.html) explains the problem as well as those of many others who are also experiencing this issue, with greater detail and accuracy than i can.please do whatever you can to force ford to issue a recall on this incredible important and expensive safety matter. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving, the abs and brake lights illuminated and the brake pedal extended to the floorboard. The contact had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The electronic brakes failed twice and the vehicle lost control. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who recalibrated the hybrid electronic brakes but the failure occurred again two weeks later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the master cylinder and the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000 and the current mileage was 60,500.

Service brake sys message on 2005 ford escape hybrid along with brake warning light.

2005 ford escape hybrid. Problem is failure of hybrid regenerative brake system as described in ford's technical service bulletin, tsb 05-8-5 (august 5, 2005) (nhtsa id #10017553). Problem had occurred sporadically after the warranty period, but without any known incident to have triggered the problem. Repair has required replacement of the master cylinder and the brake system's hydraulic control unit ("hcu"). Total cost has been about $7,000. To summarize my correspondence from ford... "since the national highway traffic safety administration ("nhtsa") is not concerned (i.e. Nobody has gotten killed by these defective brakes) there is no need for a recall. Therefore, ford has no responsibility to pay for or deal with my problem." my story in more detail at http://blog.yagelski.com/2010/01/my-ford-escape-hybrid-brake-repair.html.

2005 ford escape hybrid - brake failure.car has not been driven harshly or in harsh conditions.on july 31st, applied brakes at stoplight, abs light came on and brakes failed.dealer unsure how to fix.

We have experienced an unusual problem with the braking system in out 2005 ford escape hybrid. There have been may episodes of the yellow abs and the red brake warning lamp lighting up and the alarm sounding over the past year. This would happen for a couple of days and then after shutting-off the vehicle and restarting, the brakes returned to normal operation. We spoke with the service department at our dealership about this and because the warning light wasn't on at the time, they said there was nothing they could do to detect the problem. The last time this happened thebrakes reverted to fail safe mode requiring a "pedal to the floor" effort to slow the vehicle to a safe stop luckily while pulling into our driveway .after this we had the car towed to the dealer and were told we needed a new "hcu" unit and master cylinder with a total repair cost of $4k+. I decided to do some research and discovered many cases of the exact same thing happening with the same year and model escape. We are going to wait a few days to think before moving forward with the repair.

We have owned several good ford vehicles in the past, up until now.the subject: 2005 ford escape hybrid and problems with the abs. We now understand this is a common recurring problem with this vehicle. The master brakecylinder is defective in what appears to be consistent with all of the ford's hybrid escort line...due to a design flaw that ford refuses to recognize.the cost of repairs can range from $1500-4000 and as a consumer's rights advocate i won't hesitate to blow the whistle on this one...my daughter drives this car, and she almost had what would have been a serious if not a fatal accident...;no response from the braking system and it is now in the shop.. And we can't afford for her not to continue to go to college, and we can't afford to buy her a new car.when it comes to safety, ford should be held accountable...the only response ever from them to anyone else who has had a similar problem, has been a weak apology.what does it take for your organization to initiate a recall or at least a responsible reply from ford.i can't even feel good about selling this car to anyone else until this defect is resolved.at least toyota did what they were suppose to when they had the "stuck" acceleration issue...but ford - an american (?) company that has been around for a long time...with shabbiness like this it's no wonder our technologies being constantly "sold (out)" ) and exported overseas. On behalf of all americans who prefer to purchase usa made products and expect the quality we deserve, i expecta response from you that addresses this horrendous problem that can cause death on the highways, if not already...it surely will in time. How effective and influential is your organization, or is it another facade that has been designed to make us think our safety rights are protected from the flaws of big business when they really a?fortunately, i know several congressmen who will not like to receive a copy of this message but ultimately will.

Tsb 05-8-5 states:abs and brake warning lamp on with dtc c1526 - dtc c1524 may also be present vehicles built prior to 2/11/2005.

The issue i am having is the same as described in complaint #10318942.intermittently on dry pavement during normal braking, the abs will engage (with indicator light flashing on) and you can feel the typical abs on/off pulsing of the brakes in the brake pedal.it appears the car is also taking longer to come to a full stop when this occurs.i have reported it multiple times at the ford dealership, but they are unable to determine the cause.this happens to me regularly (a couple times a week).

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times where the brake pads, rotors and sensors were replaced, but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was then taken to a local mechanic where the contact was advised that the manufacturer had provided a technical service bulletin for the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 140,000.

Master cylinder on 2005 ford escape hybrid failed - 73940 miles on car.mostly city & highway driving - no racing or other kind of driving.

Have had the "service brake system"message and the dash "brake" indicator light go on randomly without braking for a couple of months (began in may 2008)it has been to the dealer twice (in june 2008) and is now doing it again.the dealer replaced an electrical harness this first time and cleaned contacts according to a ford service alert the second.i also had a similar problem in the fall of 2007.the "service brake system message" appeared and the dash "brake" indicator light came on over a three week period followed by the 4x4 system and abs system making noise, jerking the car several times and then shutting down while i was driving (november 2007).this was fixed by the dealer but now the car's indicator lights are turning on again and the problem does not seem to able to fixed.i am worried the brake system will fail again.

Abs light and brake light went on heard a beep and had no brakes what so ever .i eventually stopped by entering the car in to neutral and hitting the emergency brake. Turned the car off and when i turned on again it went away, my mechanic says its going to cost $1000 master cylinder needs to be replaced.thanks ford for your asupport with this obvious issue you need to address.

Complete brake failure. First time it occurred was on the interstate - 65 miles an hour and the brake light and the abs light came on and there was a beep. There were then no brakes at all. Luckily, i was able to get to the side of the road and coast to a stop. Turned off the truck and started it again and it had brakes. On this last incident, the same thing in the same order happened. Thankfully, my wife was able to get the vehicle to coast to a stop without hitting anyone or anything. This problem is very dangerous. It is intermittent thus making it hard to diagnose. Consumer stated vehicle was traded in 2015. Updated 6/8/18

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated on the dashboard.when the brake was it went to the floor and the contact could hear a grinding noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the anti braking system computer failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 67,137.updated 08/31/11 the consumer stated he had to put the vehicle in neutral and use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Updated 11/23/11

Power steering completely shuts down in the middle of driving or making turns. No diagnostic codes appear when you try to find the problem. If you turn off the car power steering returns but it goes out again shortly down the road.

Loss of steering in a ford hybrid escapeelectric steering, complete loss of steering in a turn and no one seems to care.

Similar to the 2008-2011 model recalls, the electronic power steering assist suddenly stopped functioning while in motion. The wheel was being turned all the way to the right while turning into a parking spot when immediately the wheel felt heavy and the power steering check light appeared on the dashboard system. The temperature outside was approximately 40 degrees and wet.

Without prior notice or concern, the power steering system completely stopped working. Upon examination by a ford dealer it has been determined that the power steering rack assembly and power steering control module simultaneously failed causing the issue. During routine driving at normal speeds this failure could cause a driver to lose full control of the vehicle due to the lack of adequate steering assistance.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at any sped and over a bump, the power steering failed; the contact had to apply extra force to keep control of the vehicle. The failure occurred intermittently. The contact turned the vehicle off for few moments and the failure would subside. The dealer replaced the power steering harness and computer module. The failure mileage was 31,567 and the current mileage was 91,000.

I bought the car in april of 2008 and ever since the second week of having the car the power steering would shut off while i was driving. It would happen on city streets and on the freeway. I informed the ford dealer (bob wondries in alhambra, ca) numerous times that this was a recurring condition and they informed me that nothing was wrong. This went on for 7 years; i filed this form with you before and i also contacted ford motor co. About this. All i ever got as a response was my power steering control module completely failed and i have no power steering.

The electric power steering failed to function on start up. After several attempts to restart the vehicle power steering activated.if this happens while driving could cause a serious accident.

The brakes are hard, runs all the way to stop this hard .el wheel can not turn easily to the sides. It gives me the code u0418, u0413. Is is not due to wear is a manufacturer fails

2005 ford escape hybrid, 9500 miles, drove 20 miles in 5 degree weather. Shut car off for 15 minutes. When restarted power steering failed. Drove 5 miles with power steering off. Restarted car after 2 hours. Power steering worked fine.

Driving at low speed when power steering shut off. This has occurred 1-2/month since i purchased the car from the dealer in 2008. When i have taken it in to the dealer and told them it was still occurring they always said there was no code so basically no problem. Power steering failure happened randomly at various speeds; when it happened at freeway speed was the worst. Finally took it to an independent mechanic and they found a code indicating it is the electric assisted power steering control module. Why are the 2005-2007 fehs not included in the recall?

Ever since i purchased the car from bob wondries ford in alhambra, ca in 2008 starting the second week i had it, the power steering would shut off while i was driving on the streets and highway. It happened over and over again. I told them this every time i took it in for service. They always said there was nothing wrong. Now it doesn't work at all. I've reported this to ford mo. Co. And you before. 2008-2011 escapes got recall and replacements for the power steering control module. I want the same consideration for me and other 2005-2006 owners who have posted the same problem. Would it help if one of us died because of this?

While driving the power steering will completely fail unexpectedly and a yellow wrench will appear on the dashboard. This is very dangerous as it comes unexpectedly but will come back on when the vehicle is turned off and on again. The steering is extremely difficult to muscle through when the power steering fails. The steering can fail at any time while driving or parked when the vehicle is on and it happens almost 100% of the time that i drive the vehicle. It seems to be worse in hot weather.

The electronic power steering assist suddenly stopped functioning ,

While driving at 30mph the power steering failed making the vehicle extremely hard to steer.after about 2 minutes the "pwr steering service" message was displayed and the wrench light was lit.after getting the vehicle to a safe area i restarted it and there still was no power steering.i then let the vehicle sit for approximately 2 hours, restarted it again and power steering had returned.

While driving the car on city roads my daughter notice that the car would pull to the right whike sking while driving. She also noticed increase rpm. The symptoma kept getting worse until we took it to les schwab for detailed inpecrion.

Power steering suddenly without warning is gone. So difficult to steer i could have been a wreak if i was going faster. Thankfully it happened turning into a parking spot. Very dangerous!this happens on february 27, 2015.

We noticed a clunking noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle.upon inspection, we discovered the rear passenger wheel well was completely rusted out and the strut is barely attached.the rust holes are so large, that insulation is showing, and the strut is hitting the plastic piece going into the trunk space.the vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive by a mechanic.while researching this issue, i have found multiple online forums about this problem.it is always the same area (rear passenger side) and is causing safety hazards, such as ruptured tiresand unstable steering.this is a safety issue that ford needs to recall!

Power steering goes out on my '05 ford escape hybrid.happened once when i had car about 3 years and ford said a fluke.didn't happen again until '09 but never was happening when i drove it in and ford couldn't find problem. I was able to get there while it was happening but they still couldn't say for sure but suggested ipay to replace steering wiring harness and sensor.i hesitated to do this as several people including another ford mgr said didn't make sense and another ford mgr said didn't know for sure that would take care of problem. Sometimes it is fine for months, other times happens even when i first turn the car on.sometimes the steering just feels "loose"....not normal. Usually though, i'm driving and the steering wheel makes a pull left and the steering goes out. Ford mgr told me it's safe to drive but it's getting more nerve wracking - sudden hard pulls left but power steering stays on - for awhile.once happened while at a complete stop at an intersection.driving a straight line isn't bad but tight turns are difficult and u turns nearly impossible. I'm afraid to drive to the mountains.

2005 ford escape hybrid : electric power steering.power steering failed, while in a turn twice. And came within inches of hitting a wall, because it reverted to manual steering.if not for quick thinking and reflex's. I was a passenger and grabbed the wheel and wrestled it in the turn to avoid the wall.took it to the dealer and they acted like it was a no big deal.

During routine driving at normal speeds this failure could cause a driver to lose full control of the vehicle due to the lack of adequate steering assistance.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph over a bump, a loud clanking noise emitted from outside of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the rear passenger's side wheel well inner liner was rusted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. The vin was unavailable.

Both left and right hatch window hinges broke leaving the window hanging.bolts oxidized through producing this failure. This could have happened even if there was no attempt to open the lift gate window. If this had happened while driving, the window could have possibly broken completely off and caused damage to vehicles and/or persons that were following. The liftgate window hinge part # is 420a68.

I was driving home and slowed down to go over some railway tracks.as i went over the tracks i heard a "thud" coming from the rear of the vehicle.the sound continued as i went over bumps, and i discovered once i arrived home that the passenger side rear wheel well was completely rusted out and the shock was unattached at the top.since then the top of the shock has pierced through the interior cabin wall.

Right rear shock mount area rusted out and cracked. Holes and cracks in right rear shock mount wheel well area.lots of noise and metal shifting from that area.

The passenger side rear wheel well has rusted through and it sounds like a bomb going off when you drive over a manhole cover. I was told this was typical on this type of car. Only on the passenger side, never on the driver side.

I was en route to a repair shop to check a possible u-joint noise, and hit a repair bump in the road when my car made a very scary clunk at the right/rear wheel. It continued to make a banging /clunking noise. I continued on to the repair shop traveling at 25mph with my flashers on. They took the vehicle for a short test drive and confirmed the banging/clunking noise. They then put the vehicle on a hoist for a visual inspection and found the under-body frame around the right/rear shock mount had rusted away, and the remaining portion that was still attached to the shock was snapping and banging with any movement of the right/rear wheel. Since then i have not driven my vehicle. The repair shop has informed me that they have seen 5 more escapes since then ,and only one had the same problem. It was also an escape hybrid. Theyalso advised me to contact your website and make a complaint.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving 25 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the rear passenger side wheel well. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and discovered the shock leaning against the wheel and a hole where the mounted bracket was located. The contact called loveland ford (999 e eisenhower blvd, loveland, co 80537, (970) 744-7101) and was informed that the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 162,000.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact heard a loud banging noise coming from the rear passenger wheel area. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic. The technician discovered that the rear passenger side wheel well and shock tower were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 69,000.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. While the vehicle was undergoing a routine oil change, the independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and noticed corrosion all around the frame. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000. The vin was not available.

Wheel house rotted out shock/spring broke thru wheel house hitting on hybrid battery.

The rear passenger wheel well has corroded very severely.the shock absorber is pushing into the interior wheel cover, causing it to become dislodged.i was driving on a city street, about 35 mph, when i hear a loud scraping sound coming from the right rear side of my escape.i noticed that the interior wheel cover was dislodged and moving around.i pulled over into a local park to examine what was causing the very loud scraping sound.i could see that the right rear wheel well area was very rusted and flaky.i drove home about 10-15 mph, all the time the vehicle was making a very loud bumping and scraping sound.i consulted a ford mechanic and was told that the vehicle could not be driven safely.ford needs to recall the many hundreds of ford escapes that have rusted out passenger side wheel wells, that can cause sudden loss of steering control when the shock absorber pushes into the car and the vehicle collapses onto the right rear wheel.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the wheel well began to separate from the frame. Upon further inspection the contact noticed that there was massive rust in the area. The vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was advised not to drive the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 130,000.

While driving - at any speed - a rattling sound started from the right rear passenger side of the car. Rattle got louder over time and became a loud banging sound every time we hit even the slightest imperfection in the road. Upon inspection the entire right rear wheel well is rusted through; the only thing holding in the shock on that side is light padding / insulation. Mechanic indicated car was not safe for driving, as we could face a loss of control of the vehicle. We have found a body shop who quoted us at $1200 for the repair. I called ford motor company who said there is no recall on this, despite the fact that the same issue was recalled on ford escape hybrids from 2001-2004. We will be holding on to all receipts, with the hope that ford will do the right thing and issue a recall / reimbursement.

Last week while driving my 2005 escape my right rear wheel well basically rotted out and has messed up the shock and strut assembly and knocked the tire loose causing to rub against the shock and smoke, and all you could smell was burning rubber. . as i am reading all the forums out there is see this is a very common problem and potently dangerous issue. My vehicle only has 115,200 miles on it, no way should this have happened. I bought this car used and purchased the warranty (hoping they cover repairs), my question is with so many complaints for the same issue why isn't ford doing a recall this is obviously a manufacturer problem. This is totally unacceptable. I will be contacting a lawyer to see if any legal action can be taken. Very sad ford!!!!! i am a single mom of 3 working two jobs and is now without a car, having to rent a car at $300/wk...on top of other bills and buying groceries, hmmm.. So ford you tell me if this was one of your family members how would you feel if you knew they had to choose to rent a car to get to andfrom work and kids to school or buying groceries?? all because of a know defect with your product!

My well maintained 2005 escape hybrid developed a rattling sound on july 26, 2016.at first the rattle in the right rear happened only on bumps in the road.i thought it was my car jack coming loose in its compartment.i checked that and the jack was all secured, not rattling.i continued driving home and the rattle became a banging sound, and the right rear inside wheel area started to rattle and move towards the interior as i drove.when i got home i looked around the right rear wheel well area and was shocked to see how extremely rusted it is.the other wheel wells show very little rust.i looked up the problem on a ford owners website and found that many many other people have had this same problem.it is a safety issue because some people report that the rusted out shock absorber mount breaks loose and the vehicle body collapses onto the wheel, sending the car out of control.i can't believe that there isn't a recall on this common problem in the '05 escape hybrid vehicles.i cannot drive my well maintained car because of the mechanical banging, the high potential for loss of control, causing an accident and personal injury.i'm attaching photos of the right rear wheel well and the right front wheel well to show that there is a definite defect in the right rear.please give this complaint your immediate attention, and alert other ford escape owners of this imminently very dangerous situation.

Rear shock mounts rusted completely out.vehicle driven in central va so winters are not that terrible, wheel wells are undercoated.the car was being driven when the right rear shock broke through the wheel well.

While driving on city streets, we heard a hollow thumping sound coming from the rear passenger-side wheel well whenever we went over a small bump.after externally inspecting the wheel well, we discovered that it was extremely rusted, and appeared to be in danger of completely disintegrating.medium-sized pieces were flaking off with only a slight tug.an identical issue caused the recall of ford escape models from the years 2001-2004, but ford representatives to which i have spoken have indicated that they are not considering a recall for the 2005 model year.this is an extremely dangerous situation, and could cause crashes if shock or axle supports fail at highway speeds.this is clearly a design flaw, since this model is less than 10 years old with only 111,000 miles.others have indicated that ford is aware of this problem, but refuses to address the safety concerns.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle vibrated violently and made a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the rear passenger wheel well was completely corroded and the shock absorber was no longer attached and the wheel well needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 139,000.

Rear passenger wheel house and strut assembly fastening bracket exhibit severe corrosion and possible detachment from vehicle body. Such an incident is likely to result in a loss of vehicle control at cruising speed. Previous repairs performed by prior owner. Body shop consulted and replacement of affected parts is not economically feasible.

Noticed a loud banging noise in the back passenger side.looked in wheel well and it is completely rusted out.you can see right through the car.took it to the repair shop and they told me they have seen many exact scenarios.shock is attached in a way that it rubs against the wheel well causing corrosion..no other rust on the vehicle and it is stored in the garage.i am the original owner and have given scheduled maintenance and repair.in looking further in to this it is a common complain.clearly a design flaw.a recall is needed as this is a huge safety issue.the wheel can fall right off = and that will cause serious injury, please investigate.

The passenger side rear wheel well body and frame has totally rusted away leaving no anchor for the shock absorber and rendering the car unsafe to drive (see attached pictures).this defect occurred despite the vehicle being garage kept, well maintained and maintained only by a licensed ford dealership.highland park ford and ford motor company knowingly and/or negligently concealed a known, major defect from the owner of the vehicle while the vehicle was still under warranty so as to avoid having to repair the product per ford's express warranty.

I am an owner of a 2005 ford escape hybrid. Within the past week, the right rear fender wall completely rusted through. When i drove my car, it sounded like a series of small bombs were going off in the back anytime i hit a hole. When i took the car into get fixed, it cost $1064.62. Ford will not reimburse me for a penny of this. I am not the only one facing this exact same problem. There is a facebook page dedicated to it: https://www.facebook.com/pages/2005-ford-escape-2004-2006/397923900236108this is a known problem for ford but basically they won't do anything about it. It is up to the nhtsa to demand a recall of this and to get it fixed. This is very dangerous. What if my car would have collapsed as i was driving it? so many people could have been injured or killed. I have pictures/receipts to prove everything i said above.

Vehicle developed loud banging noise in rear of vehicle. Upon inspection it was discovered that severe corrosion has occurred in the right rear wheel well, separating the top of the right rear shock assembly from the body of the vehicle, affecting handling of the car. After searching this issue on the web, it was also discovered that this corrosion is a widespread and ongoing problem with these cars, and a known issue to ford motor corp. Who has to date declined to take any action to rectify this major structural and safety issue.

While driving the car on city roads my daughter notice that the car would pull to the right whike sking while driving. She also noticed increase rpm. The symptoma kept getting worse until we took it to les schwab for detailed inpecrion.

Wheel house rotted out shock/spring broke thru wheel house hitting on hybrid battery.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape hybrid.the contact stated while driving at no particular speed, there was a loud knocking noise in the rear passenger wheel.the vehicle was taken tothe dealer who diagnosed that the shock separated from the wheel well.the wheel well needs to be replaced in order to repair the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the defect.the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Heard rattling sound over right rear tire. Upon inspection the shock mount had completely cracked due to rust, making the vehicle dangerous to operate. When i looked it up online i saw that many others report this exact same defect in the same location.

The right rear shock mount broke free from the body of the suv due to errosion/rust. From what i can see from research this is a prevelant issue with 2004, 2005, 2006 ford escapes. However ford has not issued a recall to deal with an ongoing issue. It is my understanding that because of the frequency with the issue, they corrected the suspension design in 2007 escapes.

Shock tower on back passenger side rusting out.learned of this from dealership 2 weeks ago.

I noticed an unusual sound from the right rear end of my 2005 escape hybrid a couple of weeks ago and was only able to look at it today.i was amazed to find the wheel well had rusted out at the attachment point of the shock and the upper part of the shock is hanging free. Then i looked at the other side and it is starting to go. Clearly the vehicle is unsafe to drive in this condition. I was hoping to keep the vehicle a few more years but it looks as though without major reconstruction it is junk at this point in time. Clearly the vehicle is out of warranty but it does not seem to me that the degree of failure seen here is unexpected under normal conditions especially in that i have owned the car since new and it has been well maintained.in a brief search of the web i have found that other escape owners have experienced this problem and that ford is aware of this. I am concerned that with a potential forcatastrophic failure ford did not notify the owners to check for this problem.

The right rear wheel well/shock mount became badly corroded, resulting in the rear shock absorber and suspension being connected to a thin piece of metal, and the top of the shock absorber hitting against a plastic interior body panel.had the thin piece of metal corroded entirely, a severe accident probably would have resulted.various online sites report this same problem on the same year and model vehicle (2005 ford escape), but no recalls, as they have been for other ford vehicles and other years of the escape that have experienced this severe problem.

Right rear shock mount area rusted out and cracked. Holes and cracks in right rear shock mount wheel well area.lots of noise and metal shifting from that area.

Right rear shock became detached from underbody of car creating hazardous condition due to advanced rust through.

I presented my vehicle for pa safety inspection.inspection revealed that the right rear shock tower had rusted out and needs to be fixed.this is a compelling safety concern.

Drivers side rear suddenly began banging when going over bumps. Rear strut mount completely rusted out so the strut is loose and banging on the inside of the trunk. Vehicle is unsafe to drive. There is no surface rust on the vehicle and there was no indication that this would take place. Manufacturer did not attach the strut securely - only surface mounted on the inside of the wheel well.

Right rear shock absorber mount broke away from fender well due to extensive rust in surrounding area.

Over a few days i heard a banging sound in the car that i could not identify.my daughter looked under the rear passenger wheel well and noticed the shock was knocking against the rusted wheel well.the next day i went to a funeral and the shock pierced through the trunk.i called my body shop/mechanic and told him what the issue was.he said he had another ford escape 2005 in his shop with the same exact issue.he said it was a manufacturer defect.ford didn't do a recall on the 2005 models even though they recalled prior years.i had tried to contact rizza ford about the issue but received no response.in searching the internet i realized there are at least 300+ complaints written about this exact issue and ford's handling of it.my mechanic had to practically rebuild/weld the wheel well.i can't believe that ford can be allowed to get away with ripping so many people off, especially with it being such a safety issue.this was a very expensive problem to fix and i didn't have enough money to get a different car.after this, i don't think i'll ever buy a ford again.why would i go with a company that can't even stand behind their own product and has no issues putting their customers safety at risk.

Driving hit a small bump then started to hear a banging in back passenger wheel.pull over to look the hole shock tower was rusted out.

Vehicle has 95,000 miles on it and the entire back passenger rear well is completely rusted out, so much so that the shock is pushing up into the inside of the vehicle.the rest of the wheel wells are fine and show very little wear and the vehicle runs just fine.when doing some research on this issue, it appears that a multitude of people are encountering this very same issue with just that same specific spot.my fear is that this makes this very unsafe to drive in the event i hit a large bump or pot hole.

But no one on my vin.recall 14v526000

I was driving home on a saturday morning with my little daughter in the back seat, when i got the shock of my life as my car, all of a sudden, stopped and went dead. I was lucky to have no traffic and that i was going relatively slow, so i got to a complete halt without any problems. I had to wait until the car cooled down and then was able to restart it to drive home, i was only one block from my house. I did not dare driving it until i got it to the mechanic two days later. The ford repair shop replaced the mecs pump the motor electronics cooling system pump refill and retest for $304.54 in parts plus $443.00 in labor. Only this year, in march 2015, did i find out about the safety recall of a part. Since i did not immediately recognize the part question, i had to make an appointment for an inspection. The inspection just happened this week and confirmed my car was now fine. I also found out that i had already paid for the recalled part myself. I sent a complaint letter to ford motor company/board of directors for a refund the same day i filed this complaint with you.

I have owned my ford escape hybrid since 2005, and have been aware of a problem with the master cylinder from my local ford dealership for the past year (2011). My brakes scary on the road will stop working anytime the 300 volt batter is jiggled too much from it's harness. One bill alone that fit me over a month of repairs in the dealership to correct the problem was beyond time consuming and way over my budget. They told me i didn't have to get the master cylinder replaced right away, and it was going to cost around a 1000 dollars when i did. After doing some research i've noticed other people complaining about the problem <http://blog.yagelski.com/2010/01/my-ford-escape-hybrid-brake-repair.html>. I am a college student and if there are any defects from manufacturing something needs to be done... Especially before i get killed or kill another person from driving my vehicle. It really has scared me on several episodes since right around a year after i bought the vehicle, it is not consistent. It happens very irregularly but enough to make me worry and be concerned for the safety of myself and others. In order to correct the issue i have to roll to a stop turn the ignition off and restart the system. Yesterday alone it happened twice and i had to pull the parking emergency brake just to come to a safe stop without losing control of the vehicle.

I took my 2005 ford escape hybrid to the dealer on aug. 4th/2011 for 30k maintenance at a cost of $715 + $100 coupon.immediately upon picking up the vehicle, i noticed an unusual sluggishness about it. I drive very little, so it took a few more days (8/4) for the car to break down.it was rush-hour traffic, and cars whizzed by me with kamikaze maneuvers in a psychotic urge to pass me, as my vehicle was only going a few mph.as the freeway began to rise, my car slowed down even more.i thought it was going to roll backward.i thought i was going to die and kill others.it was a nightmare.ihad to feverishly pump the gas pedal to get it to the dealership.today (8/4/11) they called to tell me that the throttle body had gone bad.i looked it up online, and it's not a part that 'goes bad'...but it does require cleaning.unfortunately maintenance of the throttle body is not a part of ford's maintenance protocol.i read many other harrowing stories of people who had near misses because of throttle body malfunction.at least a couple of people even had wrecks.eventually someone is going to get killed.i didn't even know there was such a part in a car...i am not a mechanic, but if i pay hundreds of dollars for routine maintenance, i do expect a mechanic to take care of the problem!it was horrible and very frightening.i'm just glad that i didn't hurt anyone.ford needs to realize that this problem will eventually result in a fatality.i have complained to the ford motor co. Complaint line, so hopefully they will listen to us.

Right rear shock mount area rusted out and cracked. Holes and cracks in right rear shock mount wheel well area.lots of noise and metal shifting from that area.

Car turns off while driving message on dash says to stop safely now car will start up again after waiting a while. Car stopped while on freeway barely made it to the shoulder.

As driving on the highway, the enginesuddenly shut down, and was able to drive towards the shoulder. After 5 minutes, i was able to restart the engine. Ten minutes later, it happened again, still driving the highway @60 mph. Luckily, no cars were behind, and i was able to move to the shoulder without incident. The following monday, it happened again, three times . Car was towed to the dealer, i was told they have had another car the same morning, with exactly the same problem. Diagnostics: need to replace both high voltage traction battery cooling fans and to replace motor electronics cooling pump.when dealer searched for parts, they could not find any in mn, because apparently all dealers were having the same problem. It would take several days until they would get the part from ca. Ford is not willing to recognize they have a problem with the engine and battery cooling system, although it has happened several times.ford even issued two technical service bulletins (tsb 08-24-5 and tsb 09-17-7) addressing both issues. It is a very serious safety issue, given the engine suddenly shuts down on the highway, and the car needs to be moved right away towards the shoulder. Car could be hit from behind from oncoming traffic, given the sudden speed change, and could cause fatalities. Don't want to have for another firestone - ford explorer fiasco.

Engine over accelerates on its own causing engine to race, then automatically shuts the engine down. Also, in idle position, engine rpms excessively increase and decrease for no apparent reason. Both problems happened while vehicle is stationary and also while in motion spiratically at any given time, at at any speed (from idleing up to 80 mph).

The rear window of my 2005 ford escape hybrid shattered for no apparent reason while i was driving it this morning. I was traveling on a paved road doing approximately 70 kms/hour.i did not hit anything nor were temperatures extreme. The sound was like a rifle going off and glass shattered everywhere.

Driving at 8am between boulder, co and longmont, co, on october 15th, 2013. The temperature was around 30 degrees, which it had been around for the whole drive, about 45 minutes at that point.i had just come down from about 8000ft elevation to about 5000ft elevation (with a good bit of up and down and some bumpy roads in between), but had been at that elevation on city streets for about 15 minutes.there had been light snow in the mountains, but none once i was on the plains.i had been running my rear defrost off and on (though i didn't notice if it was on or off at the exact time of the incident), as well as heat and front defrost.i was traveling at about 30 mph on a smooth highway when i heard a very loud noise, then saw that my rear window was gone, completely shattered.i had opened the rear window to load the car before leaving.

The passenger side rear wheel well has rusted through and it sounds like a bomb going off when you drive over a manhole cover. I was told this was typical on this type of car. Only on the passenger side, never on the driver side.

Passenger side rear wheelhousing rot creating unsafe vehicle. This seems to be a known defect in the escape hybrid 2005; see website: www.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2005/body_paint/excessive_wheel_well_rust.shtmlseveral people including myself have documentation regarding the issue.it is only the passenger rear wheel housing, i have receipts, pictures of the parts and from the ford dealer who did the repairs.when the car was brought in to the shop it was deemed a driving hazard. We are lucky it was noticed before a personal injury occurred.repairs were $2,000.00.

The contact owns a 2005 ford escape. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the service center for routine maintenance, the independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and discovered that the rear passenger side wheel well was rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000. Updated 09-04-14

Right rear shock became detached from underbody of car creating hazardous condition due to advanced rust through.
